  As Kim Miller of Women at the Well Ministries takes us through Psalm 40,

  1-2, and 37, 4-5, which say, I waited patiently for the Lord,

  and He inclined unto me and heard my cry.

  He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay,
• 1:42
  and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings.

  Delight thyself also in the Lord, and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.

  Commit thy way unto the Lord, trust also in him, and he shall bring it to pass.

  Hello and welcome to this broadcast of Woman at the Well Ministries,

  and oh how I love this passage in Psalms chapter 37.

  Oh how I love that when I delight myself in the Lord and I commit my ways into him,
• 2:16
  i trust him he brings it
• 2:19
  to pass you see the key to
• 2:22
  happiness is understanding
• 2:26
  that it is something that is
• 2:28
  around you but joy comes from within and my happiness is dependent really upon
• 2:37
  my joy because i can begin to see what god has done in me and i can begin to
• 2:44
  see the amazing peace in the amazing,
• 2:47
  wonderful way He takes care of me, and that delights me.
• 2:52
  Then I began to find happiness, even in the things around me.
• 2:57
  You see, true peace and true joy with the Lord isn't dependent on anyone or anything.
• 3:05
  And maybe for a moment, we should park there for a second.
• 3:08
  Because I think many of us today believe we can orchestrate our lives.
• 3:13
  We can do what we need to do.
• 3:15
  And if we just get everything right and everything perfect, then we'll have happiness and joy.
• 3:22
  The reality of it is, if you just get your heart in line with Jesus,
• 3:32
  you'll find that joy
• 3:35
  and happiness and peace
• 3:39
  that you so long for and the
• 3:42
  more you try to control your life and
• 3:45
  the more you try to control the things that are
• 3:48
  in your life the less likely you are to find that joy that peace and that happiness
• 3:55
  for true joy and true peace and true happiness is found in giving yourself over
• 4:04
  to the Lord and following Him.
• 4:08
  The interesting thing is that we as humans fight that with every fiber of our
• 4:14
  body, and some of us more so even than others because we have this predisposition to be a control.
• 4:22
  And somehow we think if we control this and we control that and we are able.
• 4:27
  To orchestrate things that then we'll be able to have the life of abundance.
• 4:34
  Well, you can have a life of abundance of that way.
• 4:38
  Abundant stress, abundant chaos, abundant fatigue, abundant misery, abundant depression.
• 4:46
  But that's not the life of abundance we want. The Bible said it came to seek
• 4:52
  and to save those that were lost.
• 4:54
  And that it came that we might have life and have it more abundantly.
• 4:59
  And he's talking about abundance in peace, in joy, in happiness, in growth.
• 5:06
  And you say, well, Kim, that's what I want. And that's what you can have.
• 5:11
  Now, it's important that you do not equate abundance from God with abundance of earthly wealth.
• 5:22
  For with earthly wealth comes a lot of stress, comes a lot of fatigue,
• 5:27
  comes a lot of things, because you begin to rely upon that and you begin to
• 5:32
  rely upon your own strength and not upon the Lord.
• 5:35
  But abundance of peace joy
• 5:39
  and happiness comes truly from
• 5:42
  delighting yourself in him you
• 5:46
  see some of you that i am talking to
• 5:49
  right now can extremely relate to
• 5:53
  psalm chapter 40 you can
• 5:56
  relate to being in
• 6:00
  a horrible pit you can
• 6:03
  relate to crying out and some of you just like the psalmist david can relate
• 6:11
  that you've cried out to the lord he's heard your cry and he's delivered you
• 6:15
  but some of you are not out of the pit it.
• 6:22
  And in fact, you're wallowing and kind of miserable in it.
• 6:27
  And you say, but Kim, I didn't do anything to get in here. Things just happened.
• 6:32
  And perhaps that's true.
• 6:35
  But you can't control how you deal with it by giving up control.
• 6:43
  And you're like, that makes zero sense, Kim. I can control something by giving
• 6:47
  up control. Now, you see, God called us to follow. Never thought about that.
• 6:56
  God did not call you to be the one who dictates, controls, determines, and plans your life.
• 7:08
  He called you to follow. In fact, all over the scriptures, he tells us that.
• 7:13
  And he says to pick up your cross daily and follow me.
• 7:19
  Well, it's impossible to be a controlling individual of all things and follow.
• 7:27
  You see, but it's careful here, especially if you're in this pit.
• 7:33
  Be careful who you follow.
• 7:36
  He said to delight yourself also in the Lord.
• 7:41
  Delight yourself in his ways delight
• 7:45
  yourself in the things he does delight yourself in
• 7:48
  his word delight yourself in his grace delight
• 7:51
  yourself in his mercy delight yourself in his promises delight yourself in time
• 7:57
  with him you ever been in the presence of somebody that you loved immensely
• 8:02
  and just sitting with them maybe not even saying hardly anything at all somehow your heart smiled,
• 8:09
  When you delight yourself in the Lord, those moments of prayer,
• 8:14
  even the quick ones as you're driving or you're walking by, those will bring a smile to your heart.
• 8:21
  And then those times when you really spend time with him, pouring out your heart
• 8:27
  and taking the time to just be still and know that he is God so he can fill
• 8:32
  you with his presence, with his essence, with who he is.
• 8:36
  It's in those times that you understand what it means to delight yourself in him.
• 8:41
  It's not just about liking him. It's about losing yourself in God.

  Understanding that he knows all
• 8:50
  is all is all powerful loves you
• 8:53
  beyond decree wants what only best for
• 8:56
  you says he has a plan for you to prosper you to give you a hope and an expected
• 9:01
  end he says no good thing does he withhold from them that love him he says he
• 9:07
  has a plan for you he says in my father's house are many mansions and if it
• 9:12
  were not so i would have told you I go to prepare a place for you that where I am you may be also.
• 9:16
  And if I go to prepare a place for you, I will surely come again and receive you unto myself.
• 9:21
  He says, Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty
• 9:25
  things which thou knowest not.
• 9:27
  He says, I'll never leave you nor forsake you. And he says, Behold,
• 9:30
  I stand at your door and knock. And if you'll just open up, I'll come in and sup with you.
• 9:35
  He says, Ask, and ye shall receive.
• 9:39
  Seek, and ye shall find. Knock, and it shall be opened. stand unto you.
• 9:44
  He is there with arms wide open, waiting to spend time with you and to love on you.
• 9:53
  And when you really delight yourself in him, you just get all about being with
• 9:59
  him in his word and prayer.

  And he begins to talk to you and you talk with him and he rubs off on you. People can see it in you.

  And beyond the reward of having that kind of relationship with Jesus.

  Where you hear him when he whispers, even when he whispers about things you'd
• 10:22
  rather not do, but you would hear him in some still small voice in your heart.

  When you have that relationship with him, that you know it's okay to ask him
• 10:33
  questions, not questioning his ability, not questioning his power,
• 10:37
  not questioning his authority or his love for you, but trying
• 10:40
  to get straight what he is telling you and you
• 10:43
  can have those conversations with him
• 10:46
  it's then you realize that
• 10:51
  his ways are not your ways but they're
• 10:54
  the best ways and it takes a lot out of
• 10:57
  the stress of living if you follow instead of
• 11:00
  trying to plan and so i say
• 11:03
  this to you if you're in the miry play wait patiently but
• 11:06
  go to him you see he says
• 11:09
  and he inclined unto me and he heard my cry he was
• 11:12
  crying to the lord he wasn't crying to his neighbors
• 11:15
  he wasn't crying to his therapist he wasn't crying
• 11:18
  to his pastor he wasn't crying to his friends he
• 11:21
  wasn't crying to anyone but to the lord and we need to go to the lord first
• 11:26
  and then use all these wonderful resources around us to help us and encourage
• 11:30
  us but it's the lord we need to get our information from And when you delight
• 11:35
  yourself with him and you commit your way to him, you'll do so.
• 11:39
  And it is perhaps not instantaneous that we get out of the pit, but it's pretty close.
• 11:47
  But you have to patiently wait for the Lord to mold you and make you in what you need to be.
• 11:54
  You see, the Lord loves you and he hears your cry and he'll give you the desires of your heart.

  But you need to keep your heart in check with Him by delighting in Him so that
• 12:07
  your desires match with His plans.
• 12:10
  And then and only then will you have the abundant life God has promised.
