- 0:02SPEAKER_00: Hello, everyone.
- 0:03SPEAKER_00: Welcome back to another episode of Truth Be Told.
- 0:06SPEAKER_00: I am Mickey.
- 0:07SPEAKER_00: I'm your host.
- 0:08SPEAKER_00: And joining me today is Bethany, my co-host.
- 0:11SPEAKER_00: And we are here to tell you the truth and share the word of God with you.
- 0:15SPEAKER_00: And today we are going to be jumping into part two of the fruits of the spirit.
- 0:21SPEAKER_00: And we started last week with talking about love and joy.
- 0:25SPEAKER_00: And we talked about what the fruits of the spirit are.
- 0:28SPEAKER_00: And so let's say hi to Bethany.
- 0:30SPEAKER_00: We're going to have her um do a recap of last week and we'll get rolling.
- 0:34SPEAKER_00: So, Bethany, welcome in today.
- 0:38SPEAKER_02: Thank you.
- 0:38SPEAKER_02: Great to be here.
- 0:39SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 0:40SPEAKER_02: So last week we started out with talking about love and joy.
- 0:49SPEAKER_02: And um while the fruits of the spirit are not in any particular order, um, it's interesting to see how that the love that's talked about is the greatest form of love, the agape type love that God has for us.
- 1:19SPEAKER_02: And then the joy is not based on circumstances, it's um available no matter what the circumstances are going on around you.
- 1:38SPEAKER_02: Um, and in today's world, I think that it's easy for us to neglect having joy, and yet God is wanting us to have joy, and so that's one of the fruits of the spirit, and so today's episode is going to be another great episode as we're gonna talk about three more of the fruits and see what um is experienced, what God wants us to experience, not just in eternity, as we even said on the last episode, but here and now, because there's so much I believe that God wants us to experience here and now, not just for ourselves, but for our families and for non-Christians as well.
- 2:55SPEAKER_02: So um, yes, that's just a recap and a um anticipation of today's episode.
- 3:07SPEAKER_02: And so, Mickey, um would you like me to pray?
- 3:13SPEAKER_02: Or would you like to pray?
- 3:15SPEAKER_00: Yes, and then um it um you could pray if you like, or I could pray, but um, do you mind really quickly?
- 3:21SPEAKER_00: Can you um do you can you repeat all nine of the fruits of the spirit?
- 3:24SPEAKER_00: Do you have them in front of you?
- 3:27SPEAKER_02: Yes, so there's love, joy, peace, non-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, and temperance.
- 3:47SPEAKER_02: And so all nine of those fruits are encompassing the fruits of the Spirit, the Holy Spirit, and again they are available to every Christian.
- 4:03SPEAKER_02: Every Christian has those nine fruits available to them, and are we utilizing them?
- 4:14SPEAKER_02: Are we understanding them as we should?
- 4:18SPEAKER_02: And so these episodes that we're doing are to help you um get on deep understanding.
- 4:28SPEAKER_00: So exactly.
- 4:30SPEAKER_00: So I just wanted to um just go over them just as a reminder from um our last episode, what the nine fruits of the spirit are.
- 4:38SPEAKER_00: And yes, we did talk about love, the agape love, and how powerful that love is, as well as um being able to endure the joy that comes along with um no matter what circumstance, we can we can walk in joy if we if we choose to, you know, because it's choice.
- 4:55SPEAKER_00: We can choose to be miserable um and just or we can choose to, you know, um be joyful.
- 5:04SPEAKER_00: And in some circumstances, it can be it can be trying and difficult at times to um think that how how how is it possible that I'm I I should be joyful about this, you know?
- 5:15SPEAKER_00: Um but one thing we we know that when we do walk in that joy and we do walk in that love, there's so many blessings that come from that, and that's fruit, the good fruit.
- 5:25SPEAKER_00: We don't want the rotten fruit, we want the good fruit.
- 5:28SPEAKER_00: And so when we walk in these um fruits of the spirit, um, this is how we produce the fruit that God wants us to produce.
- 5:38SPEAKER_00: Um, and so I I love this lesson.
- 5:40SPEAKER_00: It's gonna be really good.
- 5:42SPEAKER_00: So let's start off, let's go ahead and um jump into prayer and then we'll dive right into our message.
- 5:47SPEAKER_00: Um, Heavenly Father, God, Lord, we thank you.
- 5:49SPEAKER_00: We thank you, Lord, for for this podcast, this episode, this um opportunity, Lord, to come and share your word.
- 5:56SPEAKER_00: And Lord, we just ask that you let this message just go abroad and reach people, Lord, and and touch people's lives and hearts, Lord, and help it to resonate so that people um can be able to walk in your truth, God.
- 6:08SPEAKER_00: And we just thank you for your word.
- 6:10SPEAKER_00: We thank you for never failing us, even though we fail at times, God.
- 6:14SPEAKER_00: We thank you for always being there.
- 6:16SPEAKER_00: We love you, we honor you.
- 6:17SPEAKER_00: We ask that you just bless this message, bless Bethany as she brings this um um the scripture and the word today, um, that you just help her um to be able to bring it the way you would have her to deliver it, Lord.
- 6:30SPEAKER_00: And we just know that all things are through you, God, and your Holy Spirit.
- 6:33SPEAKER_00: We just ask you just cover us with your blood today.
- 6:36SPEAKER_00: We just love you, and um, we just thank you.
- 6:38SPEAKER_00: In Jesus' name I pray, amen.
- 6:40SPEAKER_00: All right, you ready?
- 6:42SPEAKER_00: I'm ready.
- 6:43SPEAKER_02: Yes, yes, all right.
- 6:45SPEAKER_02: So, continuing on, um we already mentioned that we've talked about love and joy, and so today we're gonna talk about peace, long suffering, and gentleness.
- 7:05SPEAKER_02: So, peace.
- 7:11SPEAKER_02: Wow, um, I think this episode is very timely, um, because there is so much going on in the world, and I don't want to um get into any of that, but just to say that if you're feeling like how can I have peace, how can I have how can I be steady when there's so much going on, and but it's the peace of God, and one of the most famous verses, if not the most famous verse, that talks about the peace of God, is Philippians 4 verse 7.
- 8:17SPEAKER_02: And I will read that right now.
- 8:24SPEAKER_02: Once again, reading from the King James version, um making eyeballs prefer that version, and so that's the version we use on Truth Be Told, and so reading Philippians 4 and verse 7, and the peace of God which passeth all understanding shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
- 9:04SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I think this verse will be another episode in itself.
- 9:16SPEAKER_02: And even chapter four, Philippians chapter four will be another series in and of itself because there is so much in Philippians 4.
- 9:33SPEAKER_02: I would encourage you to read it on your own to gain understanding for yourself.
- 9:42SPEAKER_02: But notice in verse 7 when it talks about the peace of God, notice that it says it passes all understanding.
- 10:01SPEAKER_02: Now, what's another verse where we word understanding is talked about?
- 10:13SPEAKER_02: I mean, there's probably several, there are several in the Bible that talk about understanding, but going back to Proverbs 3, verse 5, when that verse talks about not leaning on our own understanding.
- 10:39SPEAKER_02: And so thinking about that verse, Proverbs 3, 5, and then considering this verse, Philippians 4, verse 7.
- 10:57SPEAKER_02: I think the connection there is quite powerful, helping us understand where our understanding should be coming from.
- 11:14SPEAKER_02: Because one verse 7 says the peace of God which passes all understanding, there's not any amount of understanding that God's peace is in connected with his peace, his understanding, and so when we try to do things in our own understanding, and we feel frustrated and like why is this not working?
- 12:02SPEAKER_02: You know, I I don't have peace about this.
- 12:05SPEAKER_02: Why isn't it?
- 12:07SPEAKER_02: Well, are we striving from our own understanding, or are we resting in God's understanding and God's peace about things?
- 12:26SPEAKER_02: Are we being obedient to his way of doing things?
- 12:34SPEAKER_02: And so I think that's good for us to understand.
- 12:41SPEAKER_02: And then the verse goes on and talks about and the peace of God which hath passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
- 13:07SPEAKER_02: Now, when it talks about shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
- 13:17SPEAKER_02: I think about the most secure, safest place you can ever be.
- 13:28SPEAKER_02: And I'm not sure um location-wise where that would be, but um just think about how secure even God's peace promises to make our hearts and minds.
- 13:54SPEAKER_02: Um wow, like not even the most advanced explosion is able to penetrate that.
- 14:19SPEAKER_02: And I I trust we are understanding that how many times do we read verses and we just glance over them or we rush past them because maybe we've read them so often that the meaning has lost its value.
- 14:56SPEAKER_02: And yet I want us to like understand this verse, the richness, the meat to this verse.
- 15:13SPEAKER_02: If you're going through anything right now, anything that seems impossible to get through, please just take time to read this verse to allow it to secure you and help you understand just how deeply God wants to give you, and God has given you, if you are a Christian, that peace.
- 16:15SPEAKER_02: Just how juicy they are just how refreshing and uplifting and good are, and they're meant to be, they're meant to be that way.
- 16:41SPEAKER_02: And so, Mickey, do you have any thoughts on this?
- 16:47SPEAKER_00: What I love about Philippians 4 7 is that it's it's an actual promise from God.
- 16:52SPEAKER_00: Um that He's gonna, you know, He's gonna give us that peace, which passes all understanding.
- 16:58SPEAKER_00: And that's why we can't always fathom it because it's it's it's God's promise.
- 17:02SPEAKER_00: It's not our promise to ourselves or from each other.
- 17:06SPEAKER_00: It's a promise actually from God.
- 17:08SPEAKER_00: And that promise tells us that he's gonna guard our hearts um and our minds in in Christ Jesus and as as he's fulfilling this promise of this peace.
- 17:18SPEAKER_00: And the one thing that this peace does that I I love to bring to the table is that this is the peace that allows you to have joy in the hard times regardless of the situation.
- 17:32SPEAKER_00: Because when you have that overwhelming peace that God gives you, that's where you can end up stepping into joy because you have a peace over it.
- 17:41SPEAKER_00: You don't have a worry over it, you're not afraid of it, it's not a fear, it's not um um, you know, it a devastation.
- 17:50SPEAKER_00: You can actually have joy in it.
- 17:54SPEAKER_00: And that joy comes from the promise that God's going to give you the peace about it.
- 17:58SPEAKER_00: And when you get that peace, you will feel the joy and be able to operate in the joy that God has.
- 18:06SPEAKER_00: And I do believe that that's why, you know, peace, um, joy and peace are are you know fruits of the spirit because they're kind of connected.
- 18:14SPEAKER_00: Um, it's almost like you, you know, when you have one, you'll have the other.
- 18:17SPEAKER_00: They they they and same with love.
- 18:20SPEAKER_00: You know, these these fruits of the spirit, there's nine of them, and like you said, there is no order of operation to them because they're all connected in in their own ways.
- 18:28SPEAKER_00: And I do believe that with peace, it really connects us to joy because it's it's hard to think of having that, you know, just being okay with the such certain situations.
- 18:43SPEAKER_00: I mean, there's certain situations that I've encountered in my life, and I'm like, I'm not okay with that.
- 18:47SPEAKER_00: I don't feel any joy.
- 18:49SPEAKER_00: This is not this does not feel good.
- 18:51SPEAKER_00: We can't operate.
- 18:53SPEAKER_00: Peace and joy is not an operation on how we feel.
- 18:57SPEAKER_00: It's not an emotional, it's a promise from God.
- 19:01SPEAKER_00: So that's why I think it's hard for people to separate the two because we operate a lot on our emotions and fear instead of allowing God's peace, that promise that He gives us, to that will guard our hearts and our minds in Christ Jesus, if that makes any sense.
- 19:18SPEAKER_00: Does that make sense?
- 19:20SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 19:21SPEAKER_00: So that's a great, it's a great verse.
- 19:24SPEAKER_00: It's pretty it it can go pretty deep.
- 19:27SPEAKER_02: Yes, yes, and yes, we will definitely um be looking at it further um in the future.
- 19:43SPEAKER_02: But no, there's another verse.
- 19:46SPEAKER_02: Um and for all these fruits of the spirit, there's multiple verses.
- 19:55SPEAKER_02: Um, but I've just chosen two or three um for each fruit just to give us um the basic foundation lane.
- 20:09SPEAKER_02: So um another verse that talks about peace is Luke 1, verse 79.
- 20:23SPEAKER_02: And what I like about this verse, Luke 1, verse 79, is it gives us a good visual, mental visual, I believe, into just how much God wants us to have his peace in everyday life.
- 20:55SPEAKER_02: And so verse 79, Luke 1, to give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.
- 21:20SPEAKER_02: What a powerful visual that is, at least to me, that you know our world is spiritually dark, very dark, and it's getting darker, I believe, I believe every day.
- 21:47SPEAKER_02: Maybe multiple times a day.
- 21:50SPEAKER_02: Um but this verse.
- 22:01SPEAKER_02: Giving that visual and then saying to guide our feet in the path of peace.
- 22:22SPEAKER_02: That tells me that it's important for us to focus on the hope that peace can bring.
- 22:40SPEAKER_02: The hope that you know we don't we're not gonna stay in this situation forever.
- 22:54SPEAKER_02: There is going to be a deliverance.
- 23:03SPEAKER_02: If you're a Christian, you're listening listening to this right now, know that if you're going through a hard time right now, if you're going to what seems like an impossible situation, cling to this verse, cling to Philippians 4 7, cling to the verses we talked about in last episode.
- 23:41SPEAKER_02: Cling to the verses that we'll use in this episode and in the next one as well.
- 23:52SPEAKER_02: Because that current situation, it will not last.
- 24:00SPEAKER_02: It will come to an end.
- 24:05SPEAKER_02: Now maybe you say, well, when will that be?
- 24:11SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 24:14SPEAKER_02: But but it will come to an end.
- 24:23SPEAKER_02: And so again I encourage you, cling to these verses.
- 24:33SPEAKER_02: Study them for yourself.
- 24:38SPEAKER_02: You will find so much richness, so much meat for yourself.
- 24:52SPEAKER_02: The Bible is a gold mine, I believe, of richness.
- 25:03SPEAKER_02: People talk about earthly wealth.
- 25:08SPEAKER_02: Well, do we understand that the Bible is so much wealth in it?
- 25:21SPEAKER_02: And so, Meg Day, do you have any thoughts on Luke 179?
- 25:29SPEAKER_00: I think this how this resonates with me is that so in our last episode, and how we talked already again about the joy, that when we're wondering how it is, you know, how it is that God will give us the peace and the joy.
- 25:49SPEAKER_00: And in this scripture basically sums it up.
- 25:51SPEAKER_00: So I encourage you guys, you all the listeners today, everyone that's watching this episode, I want to encourage you to do something.
- 26:00SPEAKER_00: The next time you're you're faced, or you maybe or you're you're encountering a situation right now, or the next time a you know a situation comes up, the Bible says that we are going to be faced with trials and tribulations.
- 26:13SPEAKER_00: It doesn't say we're not going to be faced with trials and tribulations.
- 26:16SPEAKER_00: No, we know this.
- 26:18SPEAKER_00: So when a circumstance arises, I want you to try a different approach unless you're already doing this, if you're already operating in the fruits of the spirit, then you know how much peace this brings already over yourself, over people even around you.
- 26:39SPEAKER_00: Um, but if you're going through a certain circumstance, I want you to test the spirits.
- 26:44SPEAKER_00: I want you to test the fruits of the spirit by going, okay, the fruits of the spirit say that I have to have joy in this situation.
- 26:52SPEAKER_00: How am I going to do that?
- 26:54SPEAKER_00: I am going to choose just to do it.
- 26:56SPEAKER_00: I'm just going to choose to have joy.
- 26:58SPEAKER_00: I mean I'm have peace, and I'm just going to be okay with it.
- 27:01SPEAKER_00: Even though you're not.
- 27:02SPEAKER_00: Even though you may not be.
- 27:04SPEAKER_00: But putting that little bit of faith into the word and into God, watch and see what God does when you do that.
- 27:13SPEAKER_00: The next situation that comes up, it's going to be a little easier.
- 27:16SPEAKER_00: And the next one that comes up, it's going to be a little bit easier.
- 27:19SPEAKER_00: You're going to you'll end up learning kind of like a bad habit.
- 27:23SPEAKER_00: In order to get out of a bad habit, you got to start a new habit.
- 27:27SPEAKER_00: Why not start a good one?
- 27:28SPEAKER_00: This is a good habit to get into.
- 27:30SPEAKER_00: Operating in the fruits of the spirit is such a good habit to have.
- 27:34SPEAKER_00: It's remarkable, actually.
- 27:36SPEAKER_00: I encourage it all the way.
- 27:37SPEAKER_00: If I was going to encourage anybody to have a habit, it would be this.
- 27:40SPEAKER_00: It would be this.
- 27:41SPEAKER_00: But I want you to think about it that when you are encountered with the situation, and you may, it may take you a minute because we sometimes are we are programmed, I want to say, through the enemy and through the world, through our upbringing, through generational curses, through so many entities, entities to react to a certain circum circumstance in a certain way.
- 28:07SPEAKER_00: And if we don't have that response, there must be something wrong with us.
- 28:12SPEAKER_00: Isn't that crazy?
- 28:14SPEAKER_00: There's got to be something wrong with us if we don't act in a certain way.
- 28:18SPEAKER_00: If we're not outlandish and and just, you know, just distraught and just you know, just let it blow up out of proportion.
- 28:26SPEAKER_00: God wants us to handle it in a certain way.
- 28:29SPEAKER_00: And 99% of the time, we probably don't.
- 28:33SPEAKER_00: People will see this in you, and if you do this, they're gonna be like, why, why is what is so different?
- 28:39SPEAKER_00: Why why is this situation different from all the ones in the past?
- 28:43SPEAKER_00: Maybe they've already seen you blow up.
- 28:45SPEAKER_00: Maybe they've already seen you not handle yourself very well when the situation comes.
- 28:51SPEAKER_00: I know I've been there.
- 28:52SPEAKER_00: There's times that I've gotten in heated discussions, and instead of just trying to have peace over the situation, I was not very peaceful.
- 29:00SPEAKER_00: I actually just brought the war.
- 29:01SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 29:02SPEAKER_00: Like, so if that's you, try to focus on making the fruits of the spirit your habits and watch God do an amazing work in you.
- 29:15SPEAKER_00: I guarantee you, you're gonna see amazing things happen, not just for yourself, but even people around you.
- 29:23SPEAKER_00: So I encourage you, if you are sitting in the darkness, this is this is where God shows us that even in our dark times, we can still find peace in the situation.
- 29:36SPEAKER_00: We have to choose peace.
- 29:38SPEAKER_00: We don't it we don't have to be at war.
- 29:40SPEAKER_00: We can choose peace.
- 29:42SPEAKER_00: Like Jesus said, turn the other cheek.
- 29:44SPEAKER_00: If he hits you on one side, give him the other cheek also.
- 29:47SPEAKER_00: That's not always an easy thing to do.
- 29:50SPEAKER_00: I mean, I I was raised a fighter.
- 29:52SPEAKER_00: So I mean my mom said, if someone hits you, you she taught me how to double up my fist and give them a good one.
- 29:59SPEAKER_00: You know, we don't even slap, we punch.
- 30:01SPEAKER_00: You know, you know, we throw punches.
- 30:02SPEAKER_00: So I mean, you know, we had to defend ourselves, you know.
- 30:07SPEAKER_00: But Jesus said, if someone hits you across your cheek, give them the other cheek too.
- 30:12SPEAKER_00: That is finding peace in the situation.
- 30:16SPEAKER_00: Even though it may not feel peaceful, God will bring the blessing that's gonna follow that situation.
- 30:23SPEAKER_00: I guarantee it, if you just follow, follow along with these fruits of the spirit and you start putting them to work in your life, you're gonna see some amazing things happen.
- 30:32SPEAKER_00: I mean, I could almost bet money on it.
- 30:34SPEAKER_00: I mean, I'm not a gambler, but I mean I could almost bet money on it.
- 30:36SPEAKER_00: So, so anyway, that's that's my input on it, um Bethany.
- 30:43SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's good.
- 30:46SPEAKER_02: All right, so now as we continue on, just looking at uh individual fruits.
- 30:56SPEAKER_02: Let's go to Romans chapter two and verse four, and now we're gonna look at the fruit of long suffering.
- 31:18SPEAKER_02: And this fruit is very important.
- 31:26SPEAKER_02: Um they all are.
- 31:41SPEAKER_02: No fruit is more important than the others, but it's fruit of long suffering.
- 31:50SPEAKER_02: And personally, when I think of long suffering, I think about God, you know, he created the universe, Genesis one, he created man, man sinned, um, and then in Genesis six the flood came.
- 32:25SPEAKER_02: And since Genesis says, I'm not sure if there's been any more great um judgment, I would say on the earth from God.
- 32:48SPEAKER_02: And so when we think about that, and we think about what happened before the flood for God to make that determination, that was hundreds of years.
- 33:12SPEAKER_02: Well, since the flood until now, it's been a longer period of time, and so this fruit of long suffering should help us recognize just how important it is to God because how long-suffering is He.
- 33:42SPEAKER_02: And so Romans 2 verse 4 says, Or despite it thou the riches of the goodness and forbearance and long-suffering, not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance.
- 34:12SPEAKER_02: And so long suffering of God is important for us again to understand to evidence in our own lives.
- 34:34SPEAKER_02: You know, instead of um demanding immediate justice for someone who's done us wrong in however they've done us wrong, you know let it show on suffering.
- 34:58SPEAKER_02: That's not to say we don't um we don't let them get away with that.
- 35:10SPEAKER_02: But we aren't, you know, you did this to me now.
- 35:16SPEAKER_02: I'm in spit, and you did repay me or whatever right now, and if you don't do that, then you know we're done.
- 35:32SPEAKER_02: And so and then another verse that talks about non-suffering.
- 35:49SPEAKER_02: Mickey, do you have any thoughts on Romans 2, verse 4?
- 35:55SPEAKER_00: The only thing which will probably go with the next scripture that we're getting ready to jump into, but um, when we think about long suffering and we think about how it leads to repentance, I often think to myself, sometimes um God allows us to endure the long suffering because we haven't learned a lesson.
- 36:14SPEAKER_00: You know, sometimes he's not trying to punish us, he's trying to teach us.
- 36:18SPEAKER_00: And a lot of times we look at it as a punishment from God, not a lesson from God.
- 36:23SPEAKER_00: And I feel like that's where some of our the long suffering comes from.
- 36:27SPEAKER_00: But I also know that there's consequences for people's actions.
- 36:32SPEAKER_00: And sometimes someone else's actions might bring a consequence on you.
- 36:37SPEAKER_00: And that I think people don't understand, like, why would God allow that?
- 36:41SPEAKER_00: Why would God allow that kind of suffering, you know?
- 36:45SPEAKER_00: Just like when um um Job was tested and and the enemy was like, well, you know, was given permission to be able to do that.
- 36:54SPEAKER_00: It's weird when you think that God would allow something like that to happen.
- 36:59SPEAKER_00: But I think it's not just that he's not, he doesn't want us to suffer, by the way.
- 37:07SPEAKER_00: He wants us to learn a lesson, he wants us to come to repentance.
- 37:10SPEAKER_00: And some of us, I don't know about you, Bethany, but uh, there's times where I've been very hard-headed.
- 37:14SPEAKER_00: And it it took God a while to get my attention on some things because I just wasn't, you know, paying attention or I just wasn't, you know, you know, I had to go through some of the suffering to realize that I needed to repent for some things.
- 37:30SPEAKER_00: And, you know, if we want to walk upright with God, sometimes God has to take us through the refining, the refinery process, I believe.
- 37:41SPEAKER_00: And so I think the long suffering is part of that process, if that makes sense.
- 37:48SPEAKER_00: So that was my thought.
- 37:52SPEAKER_02: Definitely so.
- 37:54SPEAKER_02: Um, and so another verse that that's about long suffering, Colossians 1, verse 11, which says, strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and non suffering with joyfulness.
- 38:33SPEAKER_02: Notice that when it says strengthened with all might according to his glorious power it's not of our own strength.
- 39:00SPEAKER_02: So often I wonder if we did that confused.
- 39:09SPEAKER_02: Wonder so often.
- 39:12SPEAKER_02: Do I wonder if we didn't that and I have to do this in my own strength, and how am I going to do it?
- 39:24SPEAKER_02: And no, relief and understand what that verse says strengthened by power according to his glorious power, his not yours, and so unsuffering fits into that, and you know just again we may be going through things, and we may be wondering when is it gonna end and endurance to understand that God knows God knows exactly what he is doing, and so important to remember that.
- 40:53SPEAKER_00: One thing I want to to bring up real quick, Bethany, that I was just thinking of is remember when Pharaoh's son died at midnight?
- 41:02SPEAKER_00: Um he died during the tenth and final plague because God struck down all the firstborn sons of Egypt.
- 41:09SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 41:10SPEAKER_00: Um, from um, because Pharaoh, Pharaoh was every time a plague occurred and there were 10 plagues, Pharaoh's heart didn't soften, it became more hardened and hardened and hardened because he wasn't he didn't under he wasn't getting the message.
- 41:25SPEAKER_00: I mean he was, but he wasn't, he wasn't going to he wasn't going to give into it, right?
- 41:30SPEAKER_00: And if you think about it, at first when you think about it, like God, why would God strike down all the firstborn sons?
- 41:39SPEAKER_00: Well, first of all, I'm pretty positive that they didn't suffer any pain, those children, because Jesus loves all the children.
- 41:48SPEAKER_00: I believe that when he struck them down, they just went right up to heaven with him after you know they died, obviously.
- 41:55SPEAKER_00: And I think the ones, you know, obviously the suffering was to Pharaoh.
- 41:59SPEAKER_00: That's when Pharaoh finally released the Israelites to be able to leave Egypt.
- 42:04SPEAKER_00: And it took that consequence to go to that extreme.
- 42:09SPEAKER_00: That's how hardened it was for him.
- 42:12SPEAKER_00: Even all of the suffering that was upon his people, upon his land, and upon himself, all that he already endured with the nine plagues prior to that last plague, God had to keep on bringing more suffering to get the Israelites to be free.
- 42:31SPEAKER_00: And I think sometimes God brings long suffering to us because we are not, we have not been freed from some things.
- 42:39SPEAKER_00: And I think we all walk in things that we need to get free from.
- 42:42SPEAKER_00: And I again, I like I said earlier, I think some of that um long suffering also leads us to the repentance.
- 42:49SPEAKER_00: And we sometimes once we repent of those things, then God can start working out those things through us.
- 42:55SPEAKER_00: But I also like Colossians 1 because of it talks about um not just the power, but it says unto all patience and long suffering with joyfulness, again, connecting itself to another fruit of the spirit.
- 43:09SPEAKER_00: And I love that it does that as well.
- 43:11SPEAKER_00: So I wanted to just emphasize that.
- 43:13SPEAKER_00: But I didn't mean to interrupt you, but I knew if I didn't say what I was thinking, I was gonna forget it.
- 43:17SPEAKER_00: So I I apologize for interrupting you.
- 43:19SPEAKER_00: So you can go on, you can go ahead and continue.
- 43:22SPEAKER_02: Yes, yeah, perfectly fine there.
- 43:25SPEAKER_02: Um speaking when the Holy Spirit, sorry, um, speaking when the Holy Spirit prompts and being obedient, it's um another good thing to develop.
- 43:52SPEAKER_02: And so as we continue on now here, and we come.
- 44:00SPEAKER_02: To another fruit.
- 44:03SPEAKER_02: The fruit of gentleness.
- 44:08SPEAKER_02: Now some may be thinking, well, what is gentleness?
- 44:19SPEAKER_02: You know, some of the Bibles have other wordings um for the stems.
- 44:35SPEAKER_02: Um I personally have not studied any of those listings, and so I'm not going to speak to any of those.
- 44:51SPEAKER_02: Um, but from what I've studied of gentleness, it's talking about moral integrity and two verses that are connected with integrity is in the book of Job.
- 45:25SPEAKER_02: When Job was you know, the at the time in Bible history, Job was the richest man, and he had all the material blessings.
- 45:55SPEAKER_02: But then we come to Job chapter two, and that's after Satan has gone to God and he's been talking to God, and God brings up considered my servant Job.
- 46:29SPEAKER_02: And there's a lot to learn from that too.
- 46:37SPEAKER_02: So that will be for another episode.
- 46:41SPEAKER_02: But in Job chapter two, we have Job's wife, and as far as I can see Job's wife is only mentioned in chapter two.
- 47:13SPEAKER_02: Now, if I'm incorrect on that, thank you for incorrecting me.
- 47:23SPEAKER_02: So that's just to say that we don't know much about Joe's wife.
- 47:29SPEAKER_02: Other than she appreciate what was going on with Joe And we see that Job chapter two and verse three and then verse nine.
- 48:11SPEAKER_02: So starting with verse three.
- 48:15SPEAKER_02: And the Lord said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that fears God and escheweth evil, and still he holdeth fast his integrity, although thou movest me against him to destroy him without cause.
- 48:54SPEAKER_02: And so this was right after um Satan had destroyed cause to destroy um all of Job's livestock and all of that, his children and all of that was gone.
- 49:22SPEAKER_02: And so now when the verse there says a perfect and an upright man, that word perfect is not talking about sinless perfection because Job was still a sinner, like everyone else is a sinner, and so perfect there is not referring to sinless perfection.
- 50:04SPEAKER_02: But then verse nine then said his wife unto him Dast thou still retain thine integrity and I oh boy, um yeah.
- 50:35SPEAKER_02: So I find it interesting that Joe he did have so much integrity.
- 50:50SPEAKER_02: He did have so much gentleness about him that even his wife understood that and it's so these fruits of the spirit as we've discussed so far, they are powerful.
- 51:33SPEAKER_02: They are something to cling to as well.
- 51:41SPEAKER_02: As I said, the Bible is so rich, it's so full of meat.
- 52:01SPEAKER_02: Get in it and study it for ourselves and to live in freedom because that is how God wants us to live, I believe.
- 52:21SPEAKER_02: In spite of everything that's going on, God still wants us to live in freedom, and how do we do that by staying rooted in God's word on a daily basis and having those spiritual meals that will strengthen us, will anchor us because you know a ship without an anchor, what does it do?
- 53:06SPEAKER_02: It drifts and what are we going to do if we don't if we are not anchored in God Christians, we're gonna drift and time is too short for us to be drifting.
- 53:35SPEAKER_02: And so as we close out this episode, and then as we look to the next episode to finish up the fruits of the spirit and then future um to just talk more about things.
- 53:58SPEAKER_02: Mickey, is there anything else you want to share?
- 54:04SPEAKER_00: I just find, well, of course, the book of Job is like we could spend uh quite a quite a bit of time on Job.
- 54:11SPEAKER_00: I like that you brought Job into it and his talking about his wife.
- 54:14SPEAKER_00: And some people um assume that Job's wife is dead.
- 54:18SPEAKER_00: Um, I don't know what your take is on it, but I believe he's Job's wife very much was alive and also God in the end um um re you know, not replaced, but allowed her to have more children, you know, so that he could have, you know, a lot of um um children, you know, in in his family.
- 54:41SPEAKER_00: But what I was thinking is when we think about it, like she was there during all of his suffering.
- 54:49SPEAKER_00: She witnessed it.
- 54:50SPEAKER_00: She was a witness to the suffering.
- 54:51SPEAKER_00: And a lot of people think that um she died along with the children during the suffering, but she didn't.
- 54:58SPEAKER_00: And that scripture that you just read that clarifies that because he was talking, she was talking to Job about all of the suffering that he just went through.
- 55:07SPEAKER_00: So I just wanted to clarify that because I know a lot of people think that his wife died, and they're like, Well, did he remarry?
- 55:14SPEAKER_00: Or, you know, no, I I you know it doesn't say, yeah, she died, or you know, it doesn't say that, but it doesn't say specifically anyway.
- 55:22SPEAKER_00: But um, I do believe that because of the suffering is already happened, that and she's having the conversation with him that she's still alive.
- 55:32SPEAKER_00: I I don't believe that she died.
- 55:34SPEAKER_00: Um, and then they had many, many, many more children so that they their heritage could live on.
- 55:39SPEAKER_00: Um, I do think when we we talk about um um the the gentleness in it that God um he's not um uh I I know a lot of people think when he when we think of wrath, we don't think of gentleness.
- 55:58SPEAKER_00: When we think of some of the hard things that we have to go through, the trials and tribulations, we don't think of gentleness.
- 56:05SPEAKER_00: When we think of um tough circumstances, we don't think of gentleness.
- 56:10SPEAKER_00: There's a lot of times we do not think of gentleness, but sometimes it's in the suffering that God is being very gentle with us.
- 56:21SPEAKER_00: And we just don't understand it because we cannot understand or fathom um the power that God has over us.
- 56:30SPEAKER_00: We we really won't.
- 56:32SPEAKER_00: Until we are in eternity with God, we will never ever be able to understand it.
- 56:37SPEAKER_00: It's a it's out of our comprehension, it's out of our realm, it's not going to happen.
- 56:44SPEAKER_00: So it's it's interesting when we try to teach gentleness.
- 56:47SPEAKER_00: A lot of people think, oh, well, just be kind, just be nice.
- 56:50SPEAKER_00: Well, yeah, that's that's part of it.
- 56:52SPEAKER_00: That is part of it.
- 56:54SPEAKER_00: But another part of it is, you know, when you see, you know, when people are going through their suffering, um sometimes we we want to pull them out of their suffering, and that's that becomes a hindrance.
- 57:09SPEAKER_00: We need to let God do his work.
- 57:11SPEAKER_00: We need to not interfere.
- 57:13SPEAKER_00: And I know that sounds pretty bad, but actually that's being gentle because God wants and has a purpose for each one of our lives, and we are not to step in and operate as if we are God.
- 57:25SPEAKER_00: We need to be very careful.
- 57:26SPEAKER_00: If God is working in someone's life, we need to allow God to work.
- 57:30SPEAKER_00: We don't have to know why.
- 57:33SPEAKER_00: A lot of the questions Job had was why?
- 57:36SPEAKER_00: Why did you allow me to go through this?
- 57:38SPEAKER_00: And God basically said, I don't have to explain myself to you.
- 57:42SPEAKER_00: I created you, I can do whatever I want, you know.
- 57:45SPEAKER_00: And if you think about it, like with my own children, I've told them a million times.
- 57:51SPEAKER_00: They would, why mommy, why, mommy?
- 57:53SPEAKER_00: Well, because I said so.
- 57:54SPEAKER_00: That's why.
- 57:54SPEAKER_00: And there was, I don't need to give an explanation, you know, to that.
- 57:58SPEAKER_00: Um is that me being a bad or mean mommy?
- 58:02SPEAKER_00: No.
- 58:03SPEAKER_00: Um, I still love my kid, I still nurture my kid, I still take care of my kid.
- 58:07SPEAKER_00: My kid just doesn't need to have an explanation for every single decision I make in my in my life or in raising my kid, you know?
- 58:14SPEAKER_00: And um, is that gentleness?
- 58:16SPEAKER_00: I think sometimes it is.
- 58:19SPEAKER_00: I think if you sit there and explain every single thing and that you if you explain every single thing that your kid wants you to explain, now you are reasoning.
- 58:27SPEAKER_00: You're no longer parenting, you're now reasoning with your child.
- 58:31SPEAKER_00: And they have got a hold over you if you're doing that, by the way.
- 58:35SPEAKER_00: If you're allowing your child to bring you to reasoning with every single thing that you say to them, you have no longer have the control over raising them.
- 58:44SPEAKER_00: They're raising you.
- 58:45SPEAKER_00: So just to let you know that, that's a parental parent tip there.
- 58:49SPEAKER_00: So there's nothing sometimes when we discipline, we discipline out of love.
- 58:54SPEAKER_00: Now, there are people that discipline not out of love, but when we correct our children, we do it because we love them and we want them to be successful.
- 59:05SPEAKER_00: We want them to not get hurt, we want to be protective of them.
- 59:09SPEAKER_00: And sometimes you have to grab them up.
- 59:11SPEAKER_00: It says, you know, um, I I'm trying to remember, is it Romans or Proverbs?
- 59:16SPEAKER_00: Um spare the rod kind of scripture.
- 59:20SPEAKER_00: Um, is that in Proverbs?
- 59:21SPEAKER_00: I want to say it's in Proverbs.
- 59:23SPEAKER_00: It could be Romans.
- 59:24SPEAKER_00: It's in one of the two.
- 59:25SPEAKER_00: Anyway, spare the robs rod spoiled the child, right?
- 59:29SPEAKER_00: Um, God doesn't spare the rod with us.
- 59:33SPEAKER_00: We're not gonna do it with our children.
- 59:34SPEAKER_00: Why would we think God is gonna do it with us as adults, especially as adults, you know, or or or any of us?
- 59:41SPEAKER_00: Um, and sometimes when our parents aren't doing the spare and the rod, God will be the one to spare, you know, he's not gonna spare the rod, you know, if we as parents are sparing the rod.
- 59:52SPEAKER_00: And there will be consequences for that.
- 59:53SPEAKER_00: We have to actually um answer to that, honestly, if we're not disciplining our children.
- 59:58SPEAKER_00: Um so we need to be careful when we think about gentleness, it's not always, oh, just you know, just coddling all the time.
- 1:00:06SPEAKER_00: When you're sometimes when you're coddling, you're actually hindering them, you're hindering their spiritual growth, you're hinder hindering their physical, you know, the physical growth on someone, you're hindering it, and even if it's for yourself, if if you're just always 100% super, super not obedient and you're just super kind to yourself, you're even hindering your own self and your spiritualness.
- 1:00:28SPEAKER_00: God's um long suffering and his wrath is a form of gentleness.
- 1:00:34SPEAKER_00: And I know that's so hard to get that across to people because we think, are you out of your mind?
- 1:00:42SPEAKER_00: Well, no, God, God is a very kind, you know, God, you know, and we may not see it.
- 1:00:48SPEAKER_00: We don't know his plan.
- 1:00:49SPEAKER_00: We don't know, I mean, we can't see everything that he's doing.
- 1:00:52SPEAKER_00: And so, like, um, I just read it, I think two days ago.
- 1:00:58SPEAKER_00: I was reading it, and it was said, oh, it was called burnt toast.
- 1:01:05SPEAKER_00: And it said, on the days that you burn your toast or you lose your keys, or the car won't start, or you know, um you stub your toe or certain circumstances happened to you, right?
- 1:01:21SPEAKER_00: Those are more than likely the days that God was protecting you from something worse that could have come.
- 1:01:26SPEAKER_00: So even at that, even though we think, oh my gosh, now I have burnt toes, I lost my keys, I stubbed my toe, my car almost, all the things, things are going wrong, and it's just a horrible circumstance.
- 1:01:36SPEAKER_00: And we think, God, why can't you just fix this?
- 1:01:38SPEAKER_00: Like we always want God to fix everything, like He's the fixer of a right.
- 1:01:41SPEAKER_00: Like, God, fix it.
- 1:01:42SPEAKER_00: You know, just help me get, I gotta get to work, or I gotta, I have places to be.
- 1:01:46SPEAKER_00: But we don't know that, you know, down the road, a mile right before your job, um, is an accident that's gonna happen and God's protecting you from it.
- 1:01:55SPEAKER_00: So there's certain circumstances and things that we go through that I believe that we don't look at as gentle, but it it really is.
- 1:02:06SPEAKER_00: It's God's demonstration of nothing but gentleness because he loves us so much, he's protecting us.
- 1:02:10SPEAKER_00: And sometimes it, you know, if you look at it, it might be kind of like, well, that's an awkward way to do it, but um, sometimes that's how he has to handle us, you know.
- 1:02:19SPEAKER_00: I think.
- 1:02:20SPEAKER_00: Personally, I think, you know, sometimes I think sometimes God is too nice sometimes, because I think sometimes I should have been in more trouble than what I've gotten into.
- 1:02:26SPEAKER_00: But I'm thinking I'm thankful for his mercy and his grace because he also has that too.
- 1:02:30SPEAKER_00: He's a balanced God.
- 1:02:32SPEAKER_00: He's not, he's not gonna be ever off kilter, if that makes sense.
- 1:02:37SPEAKER_00: So with today's fruits of the spirit, um talking about peace, longsuffering, and gentleness, um, again, I I believe all of the fruits of the spirit are connected with one another and they all have individual purposes and meanings.
- 1:02:52SPEAKER_00: But I also believe as a picture in itself, that's why they're called the fruit of the spirit.
- 1:02:56SPEAKER_00: Like when you see a fruit basket, they're all together in a basket.
- 1:03:00SPEAKER_00: Um and I think that these fruits of the spirit, if you're operating in them and you start to learn to understand them, and then you continue to operate in them, I really do see God moving in people's lives.
- 1:03:16SPEAKER_00: I can see transformation happening happening, I can see um people just being more joyful and understanding and not so quick to jump the gun in trying to um get to the you know conclusion.
- 1:03:33SPEAKER_00: Let God do that.
- 1:03:34SPEAKER_00: God has already wrote our story, he already knows what's in the end.
- 1:03:37SPEAKER_00: Sometimes we're so so so busy trying to get to the end of what's coming that we we miss what's in between.
- 1:03:43SPEAKER_00: And so we need to be careful with that.
- 1:03:45SPEAKER_00: And with these fruits of the spirit, if we are working on operating in them, each one of them, I really do, and I will I know that we will be fruitful and that fruit will multiply.
- 1:03:58SPEAKER_00: When you are fruitful, it says your fruit should multiply.
- 1:04:02SPEAKER_00: That means you're gonna be like contagious.
- 1:04:05SPEAKER_00: People are gonna see your fruit and they're gonna be like, I want that fruit, and then they're gonna start taking that fruit and then they're gonna become fruitful, and then so on.
- 1:04:13SPEAKER_00: And that's what the fruit of the spirit really is, if we're operating in it.
- 1:04:17SPEAKER_00: A lot of times, I think that we're not.
- 1:04:20SPEAKER_00: I think that we're missing the book.
- 1:04:22SPEAKER_00: Kind of like what you said earlier, Bethany, when you said sometimes we're just reading the scripture just to read it, but we're really not taking it at face value.
- 1:04:28SPEAKER_00: We're not taking it for what it is.
- 1:04:30SPEAKER_00: We're just, oh, because we've read it so many times, it's just a repetitious, you know, scripture.
- 1:04:35SPEAKER_00: We need to be taking the word of God at face value.
- 1:04:38SPEAKER_00: Always.
- 1:04:40SPEAKER_00: We don't put God on the shelf.
- 1:04:42SPEAKER_00: We're not like the elf on the shelf kind of dude, right?
- 1:04:45SPEAKER_00: God is not that dude.
- 1:04:46SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 1:04:47SPEAKER_00: God is all powerful, you know, he's all masterful, he's he's supernatural.
- 1:04:53SPEAKER_00: And there's nothing that we could ever imagine or compare to him.
- 1:04:57SPEAKER_00: There's not one thing that can be compared to God.
- 1:04:59SPEAKER_00: I don't know if you may have tried.
- 1:05:01SPEAKER_00: I used to try.
- 1:05:02SPEAKER_00: I mean, I think we've all tried to compare something to God, okay?
- 1:05:05SPEAKER_00: Um, even ourselves.
- 1:05:06SPEAKER_00: I I mean, I'm I'm sure we've compared ourselves.
- 1:05:08SPEAKER_00: So we need to be mindful and we need to be careful, and um, we need to be diligent in reading the scripture, and we need to be walking it out.
- 1:05:17SPEAKER_00: We're supposed to walk out our walk.
- 1:05:19SPEAKER_00: That's why it says, pick up your cross and follow me.
- 1:05:23SPEAKER_00: Jesus demonstrates that, and he also tells you how to do it.
- 1:05:26SPEAKER_00: He just says, lay your burdens down, pick up your cross, and just follow me.
- 1:05:32SPEAKER_00: And he teaches them, his disciples along the way.
- 1:05:35SPEAKER_00: Jesus demonstrated all of these fruits of the Spirit while he was here on earth.
- 1:05:40SPEAKER_00: All of them.
- 1:05:41SPEAKER_00: It was witnessed over and over and over again.
- 1:05:44SPEAKER_00: It's not something that can't be done, it's something that should be done.
- 1:05:48SPEAKER_00: So thank you, Bethany, for bringing that to the table.
- 1:05:51SPEAKER_00: Um, we do need to start closing up.
- 1:05:52SPEAKER_00: Would you like to close this out in prayer today?
- 1:05:55unknown: Yeah.
- 1:05:56SPEAKER_02: Good Lord.
- 1:05:58SPEAKER_02: Thank you.
- 1:06:00SPEAKER_02: This time we've had.
- 1:06:03SPEAKER_02: But I pray that each one who listens would go away with what you want them to take from this time.
- 1:06:17SPEAKER_02: That they would be obedient to your leading, that they would be discerning of how you want to use this episode in their lives, and that they would study for themselves.
- 1:06:38SPEAKER_02: Not just take Mickey's word or my word for it, but study for themselves, Lord.
- 1:06:47SPEAKER_02: And in doing that, they will see freedom.
- 1:06:55SPEAKER_02: Yes, we've talked about so we've talked so much about freedom.
- 1:07:01SPEAKER_02: And we thank you for your word that brings that freedom.
- 1:07:10SPEAKER_02: We thank you for the relationship with you, for Christians, that brings that freedom.
- 1:07:18SPEAKER_02: Even here and now.
- 1:07:22SPEAKER_02: In the midst of everything that's going on in the world, the fruit of the spirit, Christians, we can have.
- 1:07:31SPEAKER_02: And so Lord, thank you for what you will do.
- 1:07:39SPEAKER_02: In Jesus' name.
- 1:07:41SPEAKER_00: Amen.
- 1:07:42SPEAKER_00: Amen.
- 1:07:43SPEAKER_00: Amen and amen.
- 1:07:44SPEAKER_00: Yes, and amen.
- 1:07:46SPEAKER_00: I love that.
