- Micaiah: You're gonna be way too low. Simeon Schlicher: Makaia He just can't. He can't wait for me. He's a little niz nut. It's it's not the fourth and one podcast. It's mostly college football. We've been doing this for how long now? At least month. Micaiah: Well, you about half the time as we have. Simeon Schlicher: A hundred percent. Roberto Con Queso: Bang! Simeon Schlicher: Hot off the gray, hot off the presses. We got prison mic below me. I don't know how it is. It's Robert Conqueso, Robert Bainbridge. This is mostly college football. I am your man, Mr. Half the Time, aka Rain Man, AKA AKA, along with Micaiah, my brother, Captain Boreen himself. Robert got stuck with a prison mic background. I wanted to leave him and make him do the rest of the podcast with it. We had a great laugh before we got going. Roberto Con Queso: We're all good. Simeon Schlicher: Guys, it's October, which means well, it's almost October. It's close enough. Can we agree that it's close enough to October? Roberto Con Queso: no, no one has woken me up yet when September ends, so Micaiah: Wake me up we're in September and We we Simeon Schlicher: And this just got copyright struck. Congratulations. Micaiah: are a quarter of the way through the college football season, which is just hard to believe. Every year it goes so quick and fast. And but we finish September football so with a bang. The wild chaos twenty twenty-six college football season has Started. Simeon, did you watch any games this weekend? Okay. Simeon Schlicher: I did. And I have more to comment on later in the podcast about how I will be watching college football for the rest of the year. I Micaiah: Okay. Simeon Schlicher: watched two games. Unfortunately did not watch the third, but we'll get there. Micaiah: All right, we're gonna start. we are mostly college football, but we're gonna start in a different direction today. Simeon, we're gonna give you a chance to defend yourself a little bit. Simeon Schlicher: boy. Micaiah: So before the main season started, you said on a podcast that you blocked off Tuesday nights at 7 30, right? Simeon Schlicher: yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Roberto Con Queso: Ha ha Micaiah: And yet you have missed Simeon Schlicher: I like where this is going. Micaiah: two of the four weeks. Simeon Schlicher: Yeah. Mm-hmm. Micaiah: Right. So me and Robert wanna know Simeon Schlicher: Uh-huh. Micaiah: if you blocked off Tuesday nights at seven thirty, how do you still have plans Tuesday nights at seven thirty? Simeon Schlicher: So there's there is this thing Roberto Con Queso: What had happened was Simeon Schlicher: called ADHD. If you've ever met a person, I have it. I didn't physically block them off, I mentally blocked them off, which means it didn't get blocked off. Micaiah: Uh-huh. Simeon Schlicher: So what happened was podcast Tuesdays, Tuesdays work, Tuesdays are great, Makaiah has off for the day, Robert can make it work, cases blah, blah, blah. And then dude comes along and says, Simeon, we're doing volleyball again. You want to play? And I go, Yeah, I do. It's on Tuesdays. I'll just be flexible. I can't be flexible anymore. I got a kid. Kid makes me unflexible. So here I am. I actually have volleyball after this. I'm literally leaving for volleyball after this. So it really just depends. So that's my defense. Is there is no defense? Welcome to me. And I'm married and have a child. Micaiah: So okay, th there's no defense. We have recorded this podcast on Tuesdays for the last two seasons. So Simeon Schlicher: Uh-huh. Micaiah: the fact that it is A not on your calendar or B you just forgot that the Tuesday was already taken. Simeon Schlicher: See, it's like college football. It's so ingrained in me that I just assume no matter what, it's going to metamorphosize and ooze out of me that it'll just happen no matter what. Micaiah: All right, well we don't want anything oozing out of you. Roberto Con Queso: This is taking such a weird turn. Simeon Schlicher: You don't want my ooze? Mackay and Robert don't want my ooze. Title of the podcast. Micaiah: I no, no w Roberto Con Queso: Tell what, you get to 500 on picking games this week? Yeah. Yeah. Step it Simeon Schlicher: Dude, I'm looking at that. 13 and 17 looks so bad. Dude, Micaiah: Ha ha. Roberto Con Queso: up. Simeon Schlicher: here's here's how I'm doing. I went one for six Roberto Con Queso: Bad. Simeon Schlicher: in picks this past week. Bad. Okay. And then this Mofo sat Jordan Addison the next day in fantasy football, who went off for like 34 points. So I'm having a great week in picks and managing fake games for myself. Micaiah: So still long season to go. Robert, you are in a just commanding lead. Twenty four and six. Don't put him his picks in a parlay because you would lose with the one, but he dude, you're rocking and rollin'. You got a secret? Roberto Con Queso: Hey, like I s yeah, you you look at the teams that are on there and then you just kinda pick one Micaiah: Uh-huh. Uh-huh. Roberto Con Queso: and then you just really hope and pray they do good. 'Cause like I said, Micaiah: Gotcha. Roberto Con Queso: hey, it's a long road ahead and I'm just buckling up for the downfall, baby. Micaiah: Or Simeon Schlicher: Yeah, I I think this is where Micaiah, your chaos plays into effect here. I do Micaiah: Sure. Simeon Schlicher: Robert, I do wanna see you like end somehow I don't even I can't do the math, like a hundred and one to like fifteen and fifteen. But at the same time, with the amount of chaos that happened this Roberto Con Queso: Kidding. Simeon Schlicher: pack week past weekend, it ain't gonna happen. Roberto Con Queso: I'll see what I can do. Micaiah: All right, so Simeon Schlicher: Okay, I was transitioning us right into the next topic and you just get Micaiah: Well well Simeon Schlicher: You could have gone anywhere with that, Makaiah. You could have Micaiah: That was Roberto Con Queso: I don't hey, okay. Simeon Schlicher: gone to any recap any recap game and you just said, nah, I'm just gonna be quiet. Anyone. How about Iowa and Michigan? Micaiah: I I I'm I am waiting for you to stop talking. That's what I'm doing. Simeon Schlicher: I silence on the podcast is not good. It's a podcast. You don't be quiet on a podcast. Don't tell people we use AI. No one's gonna watch now. Micaiah: It cuts it out, the AI cuts out the silences and the pauses. Everyone's gonna watch now. All right, Robert, you got one more thing to close? Roberto Con Queso: Close. Micaiah: to to close out whatever that was, the the beginning was. Simeon Schlicher: Maybe he wants to transition, Makaiah. You don't know him. Roberto Con Queso: just listen. You need to figure it out. Makai's doing okay. Micaiah: Thank you. Roberto Con Queso: My back's hurting to hurt from carrying you. All right. The same way Micaiah: Okay, all right, all right. So Roberto Con Queso: hear me out. The same way that Bryce is now carrying Michigan. Continue. Simeon Schlicher: Yeah, there it is. Micaiah: Hey, all right. The trans Simeon Schlicher: There it is a transition. This was one of the games I watched, guys. Micaiah: the transition happened. And so why don't we start right there? Go see for my thoughts on the game, go see the recap episode right before this. thank you for everyone who likes, subscribe, and share. Make sure you download every episode and turn on that notification bell so you don't miss a single episode when we release them. We normally release them Wednesdays and Sundays, but sometimes that can get thrown off. So Thoughts on Michigan and Iowa. Robert, why don't we start with you? Roberto Con Queso: So watching the game, Bryce looks better. Now, when I said he was carrying the team, obviously that was a joke because he looks good at times. Other times you're kind of still unsure. they are running the ball with him way more effectively. The biggest takeaway from Michigan is the fact that we commit so many penalties. We are this is the most undisciplined Michigan team I think I've seen. And I don't want to say a decade 'cause I know I can't remember that far back. But within the past five years. Yeah. Micaiah: A a long time. Yeah. Yeah. Roberto Con Queso: you know, there's, you know, I always want to say John Daly Hunter, but I don't think that's his actual name. It's John Daly something. Micaiah: John Henry Da Daley. Roberto Con Queso: John Henry Daly. Him him going down that hurt because it stopped the clock and it's a whole thing. But overall, Michigan should not have been in the situation they were in. They had multiple time multiple opportunities to score, keep it going. They didn't. You have to give a ton of credit to Iowa because Iowa played their style of football. And in the end, they came out with it. It was a beautiful pass, it was terrible coverage. Simeon Schlicher: Mm-hmm. Roberto Con Queso: It was a great stop route and he just planted his feet and was like, I'm catching this. Simeon Schlicher: It's a b it was a back sho you do in the me and Makai practiced that throw like a hundred times in the backyard growing up. A back shoulder fade at the be at the front of the end zone. That's it's the ball. That's like the ball you throw in that situation. Pass interference, Micaiah: Robert, over the Simeon Schlicher: anything. Micaiah: Robert, over the last 10 years, Simeon, before your point, over the last 10 years, we are currently at Michigan is currently averaging eight penalties per game. That would be a whole 1.2 penalty higher to the next closest year, which is 2017, where they average 6.8 penalties a game. Roberto Con Queso: And if it if it's an like a false start holding, whatever, those things happen. It's the inexcusable personal fouls, late hits, those are the ones that those are inexcusable because those you can change. Those you don't need to do it, but you did it anyways because you're a selfish player. Micaiah: yeah, Zeke Barry got hit with a personal foul at the end of the game. it would have been fourth and twelve and at like mish at I was like thirty five yard line and instead it was first and ten at mission at the fifty yard line. Send me in your thoughts on the game. Simeon Schlicher: I mean it's pretty straightforward. This was the team that should have lost to Western Michigan that we saw. I mean, I I'll give him cre I'll give, like you said, Bryce Underwood, like Robert said, Bryce Underwood credit. sorry, as Robert gets his dog up on his bed. he looked more developed. He looked like I thought he was gonna look at the Western Michigan game and played. defense looked shaky, team just wasn't fully there. For really the whole game, even though it was a home game. They fight we finally go away next week. is it this week? No, it's this week. like this is not a this is this is barely a seven win team. Micaiah: I'm I'm gonna disagree with you, and I was hoping one of you would say that. Kyle Winningham came back, came out this week in one of his pressers and said that he feels like they're 0-4. Welcome to being the head coach of Michigan. Feels like they're 0-4. He says Simeon Schlicher: Ha ha ha. Micaiah: they're one play away from 4-0 and one play away from 2-2. Both are true, but he feels like that they're 0-4. however, I have not seen a Michigan team advance and progress. especially offensively each week and be leaps and bounds better than what they were the previous week. Each week it was they clean something up and you can see it active. Bryce Underwood has been very impressive. He is no longer FTF owing. I came up with that today. Maybe it's a thing. anymore. Simeon Schlicher: Forcing the ball for forcing the ball no, forcing football Roberto Con Queso: Forcing the turnover. Simeon Schlicher: something. Micaiah: Freaking the fuck out. Freaking, he is no longer FTF owing when the first read isn't there. He got to multiple reads. That arm is very live. And sometimes it is better to be lucky until you're good. 2016 Penn State got absolutely demolished by Michigan before they went to the Rose Bowl and lost to USC. 2023 Alabama, remember. They lost to Texas at home in week two. Then they went on the road to USF, and that was a seven-point game until late in the fourth quarter, right? Jalen Milrow got benched. And then they went on their run and won the SEC. So sometime development takes a while. And every year there is a team that just You're just like, you write them off and then at the end of the year you look up and they're at the top of the standings and in the top ten. And I truly think I d I just have a feeling with how wacky and wild everything is gonna be that Michigan is gonna be ten and two at the end of year. Simeon Schlicher: All right, bud. Roberto Con Queso: Yeah, well Micaiah: That th that's my hot take. Roberto Con Queso: I can g I I can give you the benefit because obviously Oregon is looking okay and you know Dante and Moore pool got two Micaiah: Yeah. Roberto Con Queso: That's a thing. But you know, and Indiana's not looking the hottest either, I would say, after just barely skating by Northwestern. So the only team that really looks really still stout in the Big Ten is Ohio State, which I feel like we kinda knew, but Micaiah: So we'll have to see. I've put my hot take out there now. where it w what what isn't a hot take is that you're not allowed to simulate using the restroom on the field. That is a 15-yard penalty. That is 100% for certain and Simeon Schlicher: And an automatic first down. Micaiah: and an automatic first down. Colin Roberto Con Queso: That's valid. Micaiah: Colin Simmons had himself a game outside of Simulating using the restroom on the field and keeping a drive going for Tennessee. Five sacks, probably should have been at least five and a half, maybe even six to tie the FBF record, was using and abusing the Tennessee offensive line all game. Simeon, did you watch this game? Was this one of the two? Okay. Simeon Schlicher: This is the other game that I watched, yes. Micaiah: So why don't we start with you? What were your thoughts on Tennessee, Texas? Simeon Schlicher: You know, I was impressed that Tennessee was able to stay in this as long as they did. And I I think ironically it was their defense, right? When we think of Tennessee, we think more of their offense. Just Josh Eippel, fast, you know, whatever. Micaiah: Yeah, yeah. Simeon Schlicher: And we have and and Frazion Br Brandon. Did I Faison Micaiah: Phase on Brandon. Simeon Schlicher: Brandon? did a did a very he's a true freshman or redshirt freshman. Micaiah: Yeah, true freshman. Simeon Schlicher: Did a an extremely serviceable job, did not look like a true freshman, was there obviously at Rocky Top. In my opinion, Bryce Underwood last year looked like a true freshman. This year, not he Br Brandon, as as Muffled Mike was calling him, was was looked better than Bryce Underwood did last year, in my opinion. And so I thought it was I'm surprised Texas kept let Tennessee stay in it as long as they did. Let me put it that way. Again, it's another to me, it's another question marked. Is Texas an actual national championship team or are they just this brand that everybody likes 'cause they have a cool shade of orange? Roberto Con Queso: Neither of these teams are gonna win the SEC. I can tell you that. Because both of their offensive lines are absolute garbage. And that was when you give up ten sacks, ten sacks, that is most teams aren't gonna give up ten sacks in five games, let alone a season. Micaiah: Yeah. Yep. Roberto Con Queso: But the caveat is the other team gave up six. So, it Tennessee they were in it the whole way and Texas definitely had opportunities to put the put it away. how you let a onside kick happen is still beyond me when you have literally everybody. It was illegal, they said, wasn't it? Micaiah: Well apparently it was it apparently it was illegal according to according to the SEC, which but there have officials that came out that says it it wasn't illegal, but the SEC I mean it it's the whole clock situation all over again, so whatever. Roberto Con Queso: Yeah, you know, SEC controversy, Big Ten controversy. If there's gonna if there's gonna be controversy, it's these two conferences. Arch does not do well under pressure. Especially Micaiah: No, he does not. Roberto Con Queso: within the pocket. Texas and I mean it was as even as a game as you honestly could get, it just came down to the fact that Texas sacked Tennessee four more times. Micaiah: Yeah, the the offensive line for Tennessee, I really thought they were going to be able to get their running game going, but ne but neither did Tennessee, or neither did Texas. Texas did not get their running game going either. Both teams ran for a combined 130 yards, seven yards for 70 yards for Tennessee, 61 for Texas, 1.6 and 1.7 yards a pop. Texas, very undisciplined. Two turnovers. So many and this is why the game was closed. Two turnovers, 11 penalties for 115 yards. Arch, I the the point I I made is nothing about the Texas offense scares me. Their defense, I underrated, and their defense is a lot better than what I thought and I gave them credit for, because this Tennessee offense is a lot better than what they showed on Saturday. But this Texas defense, when they're engaged and they got something to play for and they want to send a message, they are nasty and they can shut down just about anything. I do want to go back. They did officially credit Colin Simmons with that half sack. So he had five and a half on the day, and I'm sure he was national defensive player of the week. He was it he was at the quarterback every time. He could have had nine by himself if he wanted to. All right. So then the 330 game. Happens and it is Old Miss in Florida. And Vegas saw this coming from a mile away. I feel like a lot of people saw it was coming from a mile away. Old Miss is coming down from their quote Super Bowl, beating Lane Kiffin, getting revenge. You know, they hang on to win, slash they, you know, came back after LSU came back. Big emotional win. And then you walk into the swamp. And boy does John Summerall have the swamp rocking. And back. Robert, you got a lot of hate online because you said that the most the storyline, overrated storyline from the first three weeks was that Florida was back. Is Flor do you believe Florida is back now? Roberto Con Queso: I want to say no. Like I don't believe they're back just because, okay, they beat Ole Miss. They got a long way to go. You know, for the longest time it was, Texas is back, Texas is back, Texas is back. But they never did anything. Until Florida consistently puts it together, then yeah, then they can be back. But, you know, they they I mean they put it to Ole Miss, but we talked before, and the thought was Is this kind of how it is when like teams would play Alabama, beat Alabama that very next week, they lose because that of that big emotional high. Florida just ran the ball down their throat. That's plain and simple. Ole Miss had no they had just no answer for that. And 'cause it's not like I mean, they only threw for one ninety six and one touchdown, but they ran for three two and six. Like Micaiah: The off the offensive coordinator for Florida, by the way. Georgia Tech's offensive coordinator last year with Haynes King. Buster Faulkner is his name. So very adapt to being very creative in the running game. Florida fans were in the mentions that and in the chat and in the comment section. Who's gonna slow down this offense? Not you know, maybe Texas and and and Georgia. Roberto Con Queso: probably Alabama. Probably Georgia. Micaiah: I would really I can't wait to see a defense like Texas, like Georgia, that can control the line of scrimmage with four or f just five guys and what happens if you make Aaron Philo pass the ball. Not saying he can't, but I just want to see what happens. Roberto Con Queso: Well, and that's the thing is when you look at Ole Miss, they almost lost because of LSU throwing the ball. It wasn't LSU running the ball down their throat. Ole Miss just never changed their defense and just never adjusted to anything. And Florida just kept the same game plan. If if it it ain't broke, don't fix it. you know, they play Missouri this weekend. More than likely they're just going to beat the tar out of Missouri. Then they get South Carolina. They are going to beat the Tar out of or out of South Carolina. Then they get at Texas and then home against Georgia. Those two games are going to be the ones where it's okay, everyone here wants to say that they're back. They beat both of these teams. We can start having that conversation. But until then, they're just may they move to the fourth best SEC team. In my opinion. Micaiah: Oregon USC. Go into go into the n the night game. Again, if people want to know my thoughts, go listen to the recap episode. I go into great detail of what my thoughts on on Florida being back and all that, so go listen to that episode. Oregon USC. What we heard coming into this season, at least that I heard, Robert, online, is that you Lincoln Riley's got to do something this year. This is the year Lincoln R Lincoln Riley's got the quarterback and the team and they're better defensively, right? Things we've heard before, but this was this was supposed to be the pop year. It was it normally college football rebuilds go, you build, you build, you build, and then you pop. Normally between year three and five. He's now been there for five years. That is half a decade. He still has a bunch of time and money, bunch of years and money left on his contract. And you're getting a downtrodden Oregon team that played it close with Boise, lost to Oklahoma State, took their anger out on Portland State, and you're at home, and you let y Roberts Lord and Savior, Dylan Riola, after a Roberto Con Queso: No. Micaiah: dirty hit, knocks out Dante Moore, the starting quarterback. I have more on that in just a second. Roberto Con Queso: Pause. Micaiah: Okay. Roberto Con Queso: We need to stop with the dirty hit shit. Micaiah: Okay. Simeon Schlicher: Yeah, I don't like it either. I'm not gonna lie. Roberto Con Queso: Here's the for God's sakes, people, the it's football. The minute that quarterback leaves the pocket, it's free game. If he the quarterback decides to slide, they're not doing it well before. They're sliding, he's coming, it's a bang bang play. If he if he pulls up for one second, we have another Kenny Pickett where he just takes off and goes for a touchdown. Then everyone sits there. Now, I think they made it a penalty if he does that. But they're gonna sit there and that guy is going to get reamed out for not following through with the play. This is on Roy not Royola. This is on Dante. It's on all the quarterbacks. I don't think they should the the whole sliding thing is stupid. It's a it's a football play that's been going on forever. Thousands of these hits happen all the time. Running backs literally get killed every time they touch the ball. Wide receivers get almost beheaded every time they have the ball. No one bats an eye. it's a dirty hit. Okay, yeah, whatever. All of a sudden here we're suspending players because it's a quarterback. That's what's messed up about the entire thing. Like, okay, he got hit. He Micaiah: But if he Roberto Con Queso: slid late. Micaiah: I slid late maybe. Okay. I don't I Simeon Schlicher: Also, he wasn't like diving at him. He was going to hit him to make sure he was down. Like, yeah, it's to the head or neck, but you can't tell me like first of all, he was aiming for his head and neck. He was aiming for his body. And the way that he slid, to Robert's point, was late. Late. It's a football play. It is. He wasn't trying to injure the dude. He just hit him in the head. No one's out here to knock Micaiah: Different. Roberto Con Queso: It that's why they have helmets. Simeon Schlicher: out guys. Those guys don't exist anymore. Roberto Con Queso: I Micaiah: But but I I'm not sure I agree with that. Given the reaction of the USC team after the play, I'm not sure that that that the intent wasn't to try to send a message. Simeon Schlicher: Yeah, you try to hit a guy hard. Roberto Con Queso: Well, if how many times has a wide receiver get crushed coming across the middle and the part other player pops up, they're pumped up, yeah, and then the flag comes in, it's like, whatever. That again, it is football. Your job on the football field, you are being paid to stop that person by any means necessary, minus killing them or deliberately trying to hurt them. Which football is one of the only sports that you can legally do this. So when it comes down to like it we just we're we're getting so butthurt because it's a quarterback. If it was a running back, would this still be news? No. Micaiah: Well, no, because he didn't Simeon Schlicher: Running back wanna be sliding. Micaiah: give he didn't give himself up, right? It it's and and you can't football and the football players in this day and age now, they're used to the quarterback giving themselves up. So they should know what that looks like. I'm kind of tired of also the argument that the it's so fast and everything is so fast. Like defensive players are training now since Pee Wee or junior high or high school that what a quarterback giving himself up looks like. So you can't tell me that It is too fast for the secondary and these players don't know what giving themselves up look a quarterback giving Roberto Con Queso: So Micaiah: themselves up look like. Roberto Con Queso: this is where I'm going to call in here because that's not the case in high school. There is no giving up in high school. You don't give up in high school. Like if you're the quarterback, chances are you are a two way player in most high schools. It's very few, Micaiah: Okay. Roberto Con Queso: far and few between you have the quarterback just playing the quarterback. A lot of time they play safety, but they're going for that extra yard. So they're taking hits. It's only once you get into college where, or like the bigger, like the big, big high schools like the recruiting style high schools where it's okay, now we're gonna start giving ourselves up and stuff like that. Like you can't always assume that, they're learning this. We still have Pee-wee coaches out here who don't teach how to tackle properly. I mean, that's just there's no like you can say there's a standard, but there's really not a standard when it comes down to it. But I just think I don't know. The term like the the hit on Jalen Hurts, what's it Tuesday last night? I people were all bummed up about that too. And it's like, guys, it's football. I don't know what to tell you. Is I this this wear Simeon Schlicher: Take off the pads. If you don't want this to happen, take off the pads and helmets. Roberto Con Queso: a guardian cap then 'cause that's apparent that's that's what Simeon Schlicher: Doesn't do anything, but you can w you can wear it. Roberto Con Queso: you know, that was the fix for them. Just put it on and you're gonna get your bell rung, like it is what it is. Simeon Schlicher: I I I agree. Like, everybody loves the violence. Just take play go back. Take off the pads, take off the helmets. People will stop leaning with their shoulder. They will because it Micaiah: But Simeon Schlicher: hurts. Micaiah: is that true? Because the great the great Dr. Simeon Schlicher: Don't play football then. Go run a 5K. Micaiah: Kevin Kern from the University of Akron, who is a football historian, sent me this today. Given Dante Moore and other hope high profile injuries in college and NFL games of late, let me provide some expec perspective to talk about how much worse things were back then before the invention. Of the football helmet and most of the protective gear when mass momentum plays like flying wedges were allowed. In 1894, I know it's a long time ago, Harvard and Yale game, a Harvard and Yale game became known as the Bloodbath at Hampton Park. Hampton Park is where the game was played in Springfield, Massachusetts. Multiple players got broken bones, including broken leg for one player, a broken collarbone for another, who was Leveled on what was supposed to be a fair catch, back before they protected those players, I guess. At least two players got severe concussions. One person was in a temporary coma. The Yale captain, Frank Butterworth, that's a name from the 1800s, lost an eye, and at least five players were hospitalized, and as many as nine were forced to leave the game for injury. Simeon Schlicher: Yes, and I'm pretty sure one of those players was Teddy Roosevelt's son. If not, he there he did end up playing for Harvard and he was a big proponent in making the forward pass in order for plays to be less violent. It's twenty twenty six. This isn't nineteen seventy. We're not playing on gr on artificial turf that gives us cancers. We're playing on turfs Micaiah: Well Simeon Schlicher: tear ACL. Roberto Con Queso: Yeah, some of them. Simeon Schlicher: Like, it's twenty twenty six. Rugby players tackle just fine. Yes, there are concussions. You get concussions from playing soccer. You can get for concussions from playing volleyball. Ask my wife. She's had 10 of them. Concussions are a part of athletics. If you want safety, stop putting them in pads. And also, it's freaking football. Don't play. I'm not I do not judge guys like Luke Keekly, Andrew. my gosh, Andrew, what's his name? Micaiah: Lack. Simeon Schlicher: Luck. Thank you. Roberto Con Queso: I was like, There's a ton of Andrews in this world, brother. You gotta give me more than that. Simeon Schlicher: Yeah, I know. For retiring Micaiah: Yeah. Simeon Schlicher: early because they're worried about their brains. It's a it's a sport, guys. We don't need to take it so seriously. I'm sorry there are millions of dollars and it's listed plenty of people out of poverty. But like, it's football. Relax. Don't play it if you don't want to get injured. Don't have your kids play it if you don't want them to get injured. Teach them how to tackle properly. Flag it if they don't tackle property. And get over it. Move on. Roberto Con Queso: Also don't think he should be suspended. That's my opinion. Micaiah: I again I I would yeah. Yeah Roberto Con Queso: 'Cause that's from USC, right? USC's Simeon Schlicher: Yeah, USC suspended him. Roberto Con Queso: not suspending him. It's like the NCAA isn't because right, because right. Simeon Schlicher: USC is suspending him, the NCAA is not. Micaiah: I yeah, the USC USC is suspending him. Again, I think Simeon Schlicher: US C, sorry. Micaiah: it all stems from from the aftermath. Like, everyone knows that that was targeting. When he laid that hit on that player, you know it was targeting, right? So how he reacted, I think, is the and the public backlash, I'm sure, is what is leading to the suspension. But let's let's get off of that and go back to the field. Dylan Riola comes in, the backup quarterback, who Oregon is playing, paying very handsomely to just sit there and be a backup quarterback. If you are USC and Lincoln Riley, right? So he comes in and scores a touchdown, finishes off a nine place, 75-yard drive. So his next full possessions, where he is the starter from beginning to end of each possession, is field goal, touchdown, touchdown, punt, touchdown, touchdown. End of game Is there an excuse for Lincoln Riley now? Because I I'm out of them. Great play caller, but I don't know if he has what it takes to create a championship level roster and team. Simeon Schlicher: Not on the west coast at least. I think we have to blame some of this to USC. I don't wanna yes, we can throw Lincoln Riley under the bus. He had a different he he found a pocket like perfectly right before NIL, but when transfers were like more allowed. I I think I I I wanna give him the benefit of the doubt. I don't think USC has the same stigma as it does anymore to recruits. Like even Oregon, I feel like the stigma is kinda like Okay, so you have cool uniforms every now and again, but like no offense, Dane Lanning is the reason I want to go to Oregon, not because it's Oregon. Like I want to go because I have a chance to get drafted. So like maybe maybe he needs a reset as an OC somewhere, but I also kind of feel like it's a fifty fifty. This is a USC. If he was if right if he was Sabin's follow up at Alabama, would he be having the same problem? That's a qu legitimate question to you both of you. Roberto Con Queso: I don't think he would be having the same problem. And I think a lot of it honestly is the money. Because I want to say it's it would be hard to get kids to go to California knowing any NIL money you get, you're just losing Simeon Schlicher: Mm. Roberto Con Queso: a giant portion of it. So like why would you like why would you want to go there if we'll s we'll say Alabama. Alabama turns around and says, Hey, we'll Simeon Schlicher: Taxes. Roberto Con Queso: give you Or Texas, yeah, we'll give you two million and you walk away with one point seven compared to USC will give you two million and you walk away with only a million, you're gonna have an extra seven hundred thousand. And it's you're looking at Texas and looks it looks as if Texas is growing. Like the the program, the hype behind the program, they're becoming sexy. That's where people wanna go. Cameras on them. USC, not sexy. Nothing is really bringing you there. Sure it's LA, sure you're playing at the Coliseum, but like for God, if we're gonna be honest, like the Memorial Coliseum is not good anymore. It's kinda boring. Micaiah: It it doesn't really I mean Dan Lanning Dan Simeon Schlicher: Compared to the other stadiums in the in LA. Micaiah: Lanning took a shot that the only time it so it it filled up this year was when Oregon came to town, right? So you're not really playing in front of Michigan's gonna play in front of a sold-out house, Nebraska's gonna play in front of a sold-out house, Alabama, LSU, Ohio State, no matter who they're playing. At least Simeon Schlicher: State. Micaiah: at least Penn Penn State, at least for the first quarter, right? Or the first half, depending on how how things get out of hand. So but he but Lincoln Riley, his buyout is is monstrous and he still has a bunch of years left. So he his buyout is roughly seventy million dollars still. He signed a ten year, a hundred million dollars back in the twenty twenty two season. It goes through the twenty thirty one season be and now it's actually twenty thirty two because he made a pack twelve title game. in one of his first two years there with Caleb, I forget which one. So he's got a lot of years and a lot of money left that are if you are a program like USC, are you gonna pay that and then not be able to pay your players on on the back end? Right? So if you're spending it on the coach, you're not gonna be able to spend it on the pull on the players. so that is that'll be something that'll be a situation to keep their eye on. And also how does USC finish the season as well? Because again, one loss, they're still right in it. Right. The same credit I'm giving to Michigan where they're trending up is could be s said about USC, I'm sure, but they got to get that defense together, especially with a new defensive coordinator. And, you know, they've really a lot of their big-time recruits came on defense, especially that defensive end. Simeon, in probably what would have been your favorite game to watch if you had watched it. Oklahoma State in West Virginia. Simeon Schlicher: Mm. Micaiah: This was a fun game. This is actually the game I watch most at night. I love games where it's All gas, no breaks. That is all offense. No defense. Robert, Drew Mestermaker pulled a dis at this point, just pulled a disappearing act in week one because he's been outstanding in weeks two through now four. 20 of 27, 389, three touchdowns, and an interception. This Oklahoma State offense is for real. They went in the Big 12 at this point. Roberto Con Queso: Yeah, I mean it definitely puts them closer to the driver's seat. I would say right now they probably look like the third three third, like I'd say top four. Cause obviously you still have BYU, Texas Tech. We can throw them in there. Cause they're it's for whatever reason that first game, I don't know if Tulsa is just had their number, was their kryptonite, whatever. But ever since that game And I don't know if it was just like big talk, like Michigan, Western Michigan, big talk after the game, come back out, totally different ball team, because then you go, you beat Oregon, you play Murray State, which kind of whatever. But you know, and then you get in a shootout with West Virginia that ultimately you pull away in. yeah, you're putting yourself in a very good spot. I I would I would not be shocked if the end of the season we're looking at Tex Oklahoma State with only two losses and possibly being in the Big Twelve Championship. Micaiah: West West Virginia could also get back there. West Virginia's problem, for both of you, again, I I don't know if how much Robert you watched of this game. They zero passing. Zero passing. Their ability to pass is just not there. Michael Hawkins, who was 10 of 22 for a buck 32 and one interception. They ran the ball 66 times though, for 335 yards. They're gonna be able to stay in games because they are so effective at running, but they're gonna have to find some balance along the way with Michael Hawkins throwing the football. and and the thing that is keeping him on the field is his ability to run. He had 28 rushes for 103 yards on Saturday night and three touchdowns. So, but things are trending up for Oklahoma State. West Virginia, I feel like, is just one dual true dual threat quarterback away from really making a lot of noise in the big twelve. Simeon Schlicher: Dude. Dude, I'm I'm the big twelve right now, there's one team under five hundred. Everybody is at five hundred or above total wins. Robert, you said this in the group chat. Wide open. Roberto Con Queso: Yeah. It's and it it's We're not gonna know until the end. And that's the unfortunate part. B well, that's not unfortunate. That's the great part. Yeah. Simeon Schlicher: You th that but it's also the great part. I love that about the Big Twelve. We don't know who we get to the end and then they get blown out in the semifinal and we're fine. Roberto Con Queso: Yeah. It's it's the it's the the the good and the bad, you know, 'cause one of those guys is gonna get in there and it's Simeon Schlicher: But that's college football. Yeah. Roberto Con Queso: gonna be they're yeah, they're just gonna get dog walked by someone and it's like, all right, whatever. Simeon Schlicher: Also Cincinnati. Micaiah: It's sneaky four and Simeon Schlicher: Cincinnati going, Phew, got that gambler off our books. Micaiah: Sneaky for no there there Cincinnati, big BK state on Saturday night there at Nipper. Last night, the college the Protect College Sports Act passed the Senate 77 to 22. For those of you that don't know, this is an act to try to rebalance, quote unquote, rebalance the power of college sports. It does a lot of good things, provides some guardrails. they're they allow one-time transfer. After that, you have to sit out a year. Unless if your coach leaves, then you can transfer free without penalty. Power four conferences are capped at 20 members. This was aimed to prevent the Big Ten and FC SEC from forming a super conference. And if a team changes conferences power four to power four, they have to be independent for three years. Two caveats to this: number one, that rule. Would end in 2031 when all the TV contracts are up. And number two, if say it's Ohio State trying to join the SEC, that's not punishment for Ohio State because they're going to be able to get just as much TV contract money from whatever network they want. Sure, would it hurt a northwestern Minnesota and deter them from jumping from PowerFour Conference to PowerFour Conference? Absolutely. But not your big teams in your conferences, which are would be the ones to move. By the way, Big Ten's at 18 teams right now, so they would only be able to add two. SEC was at 16, they would only be able to add four. It would put the revenue sharing Simeon Schlicher: Two lane. Micaiah: up from 21 million to 49 million. So it would pretty much double that, over double that, and to allow 49 million to be shared with players. schools. It would reserve five million for non-revenue and Olympic sports. so that's about ten percent of that budget would have to go to revenue, non-revenue and Olympic sports. Gentlemen, your thoughts on this. It has to go to the house still, and people are saying it's gonna die in the house, but your thoughts on this. Simeon Schlicher: of course it's gonna die in the house. It's the end it's right before we vote in a couple of weeks. Remember that. So yeah. It's like the Daylight Saving Times bill that passed in the Senate this voting cycle last year. Micaiah: Well, the this i this is supposed i it's gonna be brought up after v November ninth, apparently. So after voting. Simeon Schlicher: Mm. Roberto Con Queso: That's after the Simeon Schlicher: Mm. Roberto Con Queso: midterms. Simeon Schlicher: So once once a bunch of people have lost their jobs and don't care Roberto Con Queso: Yeah. Simeon Schlicher: anymore and can do whatever they want, yeah, that's gonna be great. That's gonna work out well. Not to get political. Roberto Con Queso: I mean, when it comes down to it, like something did something something needed to happen. Obviously. Because we are we're getting to a point where the kids are just getting out of control. Kids are getting paid too much money. They're not hold like we still have players who are owing money to other teams foul and validating contracts. And you know It's going to be something where I feel like anything that does get done is just gonna get rethrocked in court. So but hopefully it all works out. Maybe that hopefully this gets passed because in reality we really don't need a super conference because we don't need the SEC getting any more powerful. We don't need the Big Ten getting any more powerful because neither of those conferences really care about the best what's best for college football. They care about what's best for their bottom line. And or what's best for their top three, top four schools. I don't really like that you have to be independent if you switch to a school for three years. Now, granted, it's only until 2031, but just make it one year. And then, you know, you you tell them you're independent for a year, but you don't get any revenue until 2031, maybe. Like, do it that way, or like how SMU doesn't they're still not getting any money, right? Micaiah: Correct. Roberto Con Queso: So, I mean, you could do it that way, but I I feel like making them independent doesn't do anything. It might help for scheduling. It might make some pretty good games. But they can't play in a conference championship game then. So what's the point? Micaiah: Right, but again, they they can go out if they're independent and get their own TV contract and nota if Notre Dame's getting twenty million, Ohio State, Michigan, you know, the the top end, Oregon, the top end schools are probably also going to get like Fox would pay probably thirty million dollars a year to host to be the exclusive host of Ohio State home games. I I Roberto Con Queso: Right, but you're only that for you're you would only be that for five years. Three sorry sorry, three years. Simeon Schlicher: But also Ohio State's not le leaving. Roberto Con Queso: You would only be that for three years. Micaiah: Right, right. So it'd be year to year, but Ohio State could open the bidding up. So first year, okay, Fox only gives them fifteen, but then they but then NBC gets involved and then go to NBC the next in year. You know what I'm saying? Like it might actually open the whole Roberto Con Queso: Yeah, I mean Micaiah: can of worms where teams are like, it's actually better for revenue if we go be independent and get our own TV contract. Simeon Schlicher: To Robert's and Rand Paul's Point. Not to get political here. The fact Micaiah: You're about to. Simeon Schlicher: that Congress had to get involved, that the federal government had to get involved. It's kind of like Congress having to get involved with PEDs for for steroids with baseball. Like If a company down the street did something that wasn't illegal but was just like blowing up, yes, it's the government's job to regulate the markets. But at the same time, you had all the power in CAA, Big Ten conferences to regulate yourself and you chose not to. It's it's all the AI bros going, it's gonna kill us. Let's throw fifty billion dollars more at it. It's the same thing. No one actually cares because it's making them money. So it sucks that the federal government had to get involved, but also like it's their fault. The college's fault, not the federal government's fault. Micaiah: Yeah, Roberto Con Queso: I was like I was like, Hey, feds aren't paying buddy. Micaiah: So it yeah, it will it will Simeon Schlicher: In a way they kinda are. Roberto Con Queso: Yeah. Micaiah: this act would also allow put power back in the NCAA and be able for them to enforce punishment, which I'm not sure totally sure is a good thing. Simeon Schlicher: All it's gonna do is put money in p lawyers' pockets. Micaiah: Right. And and Roberto Con Queso: Yeah, 'cause they're always going back to court. Micaiah: it's not there was a rule to try to cap coaches' salaries or the amount of revenue you could spend on sports in order to protect perf Roberto Con Queso: That needs to happen. Micaiah: in in perf protect professors and like the academic side, which I'm totally all for. and so but That unfortunately that amendment was shot down in the vote. So that so that did not pass. All right. So we are going to move forward to week five. Week five, slate, not a whole bunch of ranked unranked violence. there are some Simeon Schlicher: Good games though. Micaiah: there are some good games, but and I think it sets up well for a lot of chaos. I truly do. I I think we're gonna have at least one or two upsets again. There are some teams that shouldn't be ranked, like Missouri, and there are some teams that should be ranked that aren't that, you know, might not might lead people to think that this won't be a wild, wacky weekend. I I truly think we are in for a wild, wacky weekend. We will start with Alabama and Mississippi State. This game is noon on ABC. The cowbells will be ringing. Comario Taylor, the dude himself. Going up against Keelon Russell and that reworked Alabama high powered offense. At Simeon Schlicher: You think Keelon likes key lime? Micaiah: Maybe. Who doesn't like a good key lime pie? Simeon Schlicher: My question. Roberto Con Queso: I could take it or leave it. Micaiah: Okay, well, the answer is Robert. Robert could take it and leave it. Mississippi State throws for about 315 yards a game. That's 13th best in the country. Alabama's defense passing gives up about 221. That's 88th in the country, so nothing to blink at. Alabama's total offense is fourth in scoring. Mississippi State's total defense is 53rd in scoring. I think we're in for a shootout. I really do. I think this is West Coast style, high tempo, high octane offense, up and down. You guys got any thoughts? Roberto Con Queso: I would love for this game to be a back and forth shootout. I just don't Micaiah: Love them. Roberto Con Queso: I just don't think it's gonna happen that way. I think this is Mississippi State's first true big this is this is the Goliath. This this Micaiah: This is their welcome back to being relevant. Roberto Con Queso: is, you know, you yeah, you had a tough game against Missouri, but Missouri hasn't really been an SAC football program. They barely were a Big Twelve program. Like you're Simeon Schlicher: Yeah. Roberto Con Queso: you're you're f you're facing a f like one of one of the big daddies, you know? I'm serious, man. Like Micaiah: I I I just tuned Simeon Schlicher: No, Micaiah: into what you actually said. No, that's what I'm laughing at too. Yeah. Yeah. Simeon Schlicher: I'm laughing at the I'm laughing at the barely big ten big twelve. Yeah. Yeah, no, Roberto Con Queso: And dude, they were. They barely were. Simeon Schlicher: you're there. I get ya. I'm tracking. Roberto Con Queso: I think the game starts off more than likely fast. it wouldn't surprise me if it's like a seven, seven, fourteen, fourteen. I just think Bama's got too much power right now. And they're kind of right in right in their high. You know, they bent over South Carolina and gave it to them. And I, you know, I it I think it's gonna end up as like a forty two twenty one kind of game. Simeon Schlicher: If Shane Bieber doesn't want his buyout, I'll take it. Micaiah: well y Dylan Simeon Schlicher: I have no comments. Here's here's what I'm gonna introduce. Okay, new to the podcast, right off the dome. Okay. Micaiah: Okay. Simeon Schlicher: I'm watching. I'm I realize that if I put it in a quad box, I go from half watching a game to not watching any game at all. Okay. Welcome back to my ADHD. Okay. Micaiah: Okay. Yeah, yeah, okay. Simeon Schlicher: I'm lucky I can sneak in about a game and a half, two games with my schedule before doing stuff to the house and fathering and husbanding takes over. Okay. So my goal is there is one game in each time slot. Sorry, 10 30 time slot, you're getting screwed over here, that I'm gonna pay attention to. Micaiah: Okay. Simeon Schlicher: This so I have absolutely absolutely zero take for this game other than this is gonna be the one I'm choosing for the twelve o'clock time slot. Micaiah: okay, great. So then I respect expect a report in next week's pod about this. Simeon Schlicher: You're welcome. Micaiah: Robert, I I I'm with you. I think it starts off hot and heavy and then I think it cools off. Iowa and Ohio State. Simeon Schlicher: Much like my marriage. Come on. Just joking. I have a great marriage. I have a great marriage. Micaiah: Iowa and and Ohio State. Ohio's Ohio State looks like the best team in the country right now. And the Roberto Con Queso: Wait. Micaiah: only reason I believe that they're not one on Robert's list or anyone else's list, including my own, is because that they did lose to Texas. They went on the road and lost to Texas, and I have to respect the head to head. However, offensively, defensively, and offensively, I mean by Jeremiah Smith. They look like the dominant force in the country right now. They are eighth in yards per game, second in passing, seventy-sixth in rushing, sixth in scoring. Their defense is top 50 in all categories, an 11th in scoring. Meanwhile, Iowa's middle of the road offense. And their defense isn't too bad. 10th, 12th, 19th, and they are first in points per game. However, they did play some bad schools early. And, And but with an asterisk, they got dominated in terms of yards per game or yardage last week at Michigan. Michigan did pretty much whatever they want inside the twenties, and but to Iowa's credit, they locked down in the red zone twice turnover on downs and interception. R Robert, Simeon Schlicher: Can't go for those thirties. Have to be inside the twenties. Micaiah: the spread is 14. I I I wanna be an Iowa fan because that's just at this point, Iowa's a good I don't Iowa's just gonna win their football games how they win their football games. I just have a hard time feeling that this is a one possession game in the fourth quarter. I have a hard time believing that. Roberto Con Queso: So saving races, it's at Iowa. Simeon Schlicher: Mm-hmm. Roberto Con Queso: And if I'm not mistaken, sat what's Saturday? Saturday would be the first Saturday of October. And what does Ohio Micaiah: That is correct. Roberto Con Queso: State not like to do? Win in October Micaiah: Gotta I Roberto Con Queso: on the road, especially at Iowa. I think this is a close game. I think Iowa Iowa is definitely going to struggle with Jeremiah Smith, obviously, because we everyone has Micaiah: Everybody w does. Roberto Con Queso: everyone has to face it. He is the greatest. Ohio State wide receiver to ever touch the field. There's no there's no conversation about Simeon Schlicher: I'm ready to overpay for him in fantasy draft next season. Roberto Con Queso: Exactly. He's he's just so good. Ohio State's defense though is they're they're good, but they're not as good as what they w used to be. bad part is Iowa's offense also not as good as what they've been, but they throw the ball a little bit more. defense, time of possession, they gotta slow the ball way down, which I think they can. Is it one possession, one score at the start of the fourth? Maybe. It might be like a twenty four to fourteen kind of look to it to where we're like, Iowa's still kind of in this. 'cause the set the sun is gonna start setting in Iowa. And it crazy stuff happens. It's October. Simeon Schlicher: here's my question. Hold on, Micaiah: R Robert w yeah, go ahead, Simeon. Simeon Schlicher: sorry, here's my question. So Ohio State minus fourteen. Micaiah: Mm. Simeon Schlicher: Iowa plus Iowa plus the points, right? Right? Here's the Micaiah: No, no. Simeon Schlicher: over under is forty five and a half. This is just to define this for people's minds. Under, right? Micaiah: I I yeah. You go under but you take Ohio State minus the points. I think I they they Simeon Schlicher: I I I I don't I would do the Roberto Con Queso: I would do the opposite. I would go under, but I would take Iowa plus fourteen. Simeon Schlicher: I think this is a I think this is a twenty one seventeen game with all the points being scored in the first half, with a field goal in the third quarter. Micaiah: I think this is Roberto Con Queso: Twenty four fourteen. Micaiah: I think this is twenty-four to seven entering the fourth and finishes thirty-one to seven. I I just Roberto Con Queso: Don't sleep on October. Simeon Schlicher: Write it down, put it in the group chat, move on. Micaiah: I I I know I listen, that's fine. All right. Hey, we'll see next we'll see next week, and that's what that's what I love about it. Florida, Missouri. I just put this on here again because it's ranked on ranked violence, and that's the only reason I put that on here. There are more Rainman's games they don't want you to watch. Simeon Schlicher: He is the same guy. They hired the same guy. I don't care that their running back runs through everybody and their offensive line is pushing people around. They will fail. Micaiah: I I don't think so. They're running at six yards Roberto Con Queso: Against Missouri? Micaiah: a pop, 260 per game, 11th best in the country, and Roberto Con Queso: Mm. Micaiah: Missouri's defense, rushing defense, 32nd best in the country. So this is good on good. Missouri stops the run. Florida wants to run the ball. Do we finally see? can Aaron Philo pass? Right? We are on the road for the first time. If you're the Florida Gators, Austin Simmons can spin it. And more importantly, The secondary of Florida has been tested and has held up okay, but has given up a lot of yardage both to Byron Brown and then to Trinidad Chambliss. What are we thinking? Roberto Con Queso: So do we look at it as okay, they beat number four Ole Miss at home. Not that it was their Super Bowl, but was that their big win, big energy now the slide, to Micaiah: Right. Right. Roberto Con Queso: where maybe they don't lose the game, but it's a lot closer than what Micaiah: yeah. Roberto Con Queso: everyone is that at least I'm expecting. I don't ex I I don't expect this game to be close at all. Missouri is a glorified twenty five, twenty four, twenty three, twenty two ranked team, and that's it. Like they're they're they they could lose two more games this season. At the end of the season, I will look back, they will be twenty fifth. Simeon Schlicher: I it I agree with Robert. Sorry, let me get up to the microphone. I agree with Robert. I I I'm just saying, Florida fans, right now, won't be talking about you in December. Won't be doing it. Just saying. Micaiah: Florida fans, please remember he's thirteen and seventeen on the year with picks. Robert, how you felt about I Iowa and Ohio and Ohio State? Simeon Schlicher: Yeah, but when it comes to this sort of thing, Makaiah, I have a tendency to be right. Micaiah: Yeah, that is true. As you felt with Ohio State and Iowa being close, I think that this game will be close. Florida on the road for the first time, big game last week, have pretty much dominated and done whatever they want. So now on the road, 3:30 October. Sun starts to set in Missouri, sorta same deal. Do I think Florida wins the game? Picks coming later, but I think this is a lot closer than the five and a half Missouri's getting Roberto Con Queso: was that one? Micaiah: right now. Roberto Con Queso: It was. Simeon Schlicher: Mm. Mm. Mm. Micaiah: So those are the games that we have are previewing for week five. Robert, this is your time to shine with your top ten. Simeon Schlicher: Are you keeping track of these? Where like I would love a graph. Why aren't we utilizing AI for this, Robert? That's my question. Roberto Con Queso: What do you mean we're using AI? Do I look like we don't use Micaiah: You yelled at me for utilizing AI. Roberto Con Queso: AI on the podcast, people won't listen. Simeon Schlicher: No, I don't like that it I don't love its editing style, okay? That's all that I'm saying. So I'm okay with using Roberto Con Queso: Brother, I can't Simeon Schlicher: it to y to make our lives and better from building. Like I wanna know who's dropped, who's come up. Like I want the arrows with the numbers and positions and that sort of stuff for this. Micaiah: Okay, well why don't you listen to the podcast each week and why don't you make the graft? Simeon Schlicher: I hey, hey, B word, I do. End the recap. End the recap. Micaiah: Mm then why don't you make the graph? Roberto Con Queso: Listen, man, you are you are asking a lot of work from someone whose brain has a Micaiah: Mm. Roberto Con Queso: monkey with symbols in it and it's barely making contact. It's actually starting to miss. So all right, Micaiah: boy. no, Robert's just hanging on for dear life right now. Alright Yeah. Simeon Schlicher: It's almost That's that's that's fair. All right, what you got for us, Robert? Roberto Con Queso: so number one, obviously Texas. Gonna stay there until they lose. Micaiah: Yeah. Okay. Roberto Con Queso: number two, Ohio State. Gonna stay there until they lose. Micaiah: Love it. Roberto Con Queso: number three, Still Miami. Number four, Notre Dame. Five is Georgia. Micaiah: Okay. Roberto Con Queso: Six I have is Indiana. I moved Florida into seven as of right now. Micaiah: above Alabama. Okay. Roberto Con Queso: yeah, because Bama hasn't necessarily played they played Kentucky, which was a tough game for the first like quarter. But overall Micaiah: Okay. Roberto Con Queso: they haven't necessarily faced anyone big yet. So but Bama right now would be sitting at eight. Micaiah: Okay. Yep. Roberto Con Queso: I would have Ole Miss is nine. Micaiah: wow, okay. Roberto Con Queso: BYU as ten, eleven as LSU, and twelve as Boise State. Micaiah: So you're dropping so you're basically just dropping Texas Tech out of your top twelve, is what just happened. Roberto Con Queso: Yeah, the big the Big Twelve is gonna be the one that gets me, just because the games aren't I'm like I'm not I'm not seeing their games. The only Big Twelve game I think I've really seen has been Oklahoma State and West Virginia. There's just nothing Simeon Schlicher: I've five yeah, five SC teams five SC teams aren't making this playoff. And I I'm not saying that. I'm just saying that as a conversation piece. Roberto Con Queso: No Micaiah: A long season. Yeah. Roberto Con Queso: v very much so they probably could not, but again, this is why we do it week week to week, so that when everyone at the end of the season says something crazy and I'm like, hey, I called that week five. Simeon Schlicher: I I have no issue with drop with dropping I was like th I was thinking like, hey, should Micaiah: Yeah. Simeon Schlicher: Boise State move up one? They've proven themselves up until this point, but like at the same time, you can't, right? Micaiah: They shlacked Roberto Con Queso: So well yeah, you I would Micaiah: Western holy cow. Roberto Con Queso: love to put them at like eleven, ten, but until they're ranked higher than some of these teams, like they they No, like if Simeon Schlicher: They're not better than LSU. Are they better than Texas Tech? I don't know. Roberto Con Queso: if you if they line up right now, Boise State loses to Probably nine, ten of the eleven, they probably get one team at to Micaiah: Who's the team they get? Roberto Con Queso: probably Notre Dame. Cause no listen, if you watch them play if you watch them Simeon Schlicher: Yeah. It would be Notre Dame. Maybe Ole Miss. You might catch Ole Miss. Roberto Con Queso: play Michigan State, you'd be like good call. No. No, North Micaiah: So is North Car is Bill Belichick getting this weekend? Okay. All right. Roberto Con Queso: Carolina still lacks the firepower. Micaiah: Alright, fair enough. Alright, the mostly all Simeon Schlicher: I like it. Micaiah: college football team, we are we were 0-3. Did we pick up a win finally? Roberto Con Queso: So close. We were let me go back the week it was Simeon Schlicher: So how is this getting tracked and pointed? Like No, Micaiah: Well, if you were on the podcast every week, you'd know this by now. Simeon Schlicher: I listen to the podcast every week. Okay, so there's an app that we're tracking with. Roberto Con Queso: Yeah. Yeah, so I'm a I'm I'm an app I have an app that we have our team. Yeah. I'm I'm just I'm writing it down. Micaiah: No, we're just making we're just making up the record. Simeon Schlicher: I wasn't sure I thought he I thought he was using AI, okay? I thought he was like, do this and blah blah blah. Micaiah: Imagine if we were just like so close to winning this week and we weren't actually Roberto Con Queso: Yeah. Micaiah: tracking on they were so close to winning this week. Roberto Con Queso: Man, we were really close to being Jeremiah Smith this week, and I'll tell you what. so the number one team scored one hundred and eighteen points. The fourth Micaiah: Okay. Roberto Con Queso: and one team one hundred and fourteen. Micaiah: did Jeremiah Smith have like fifty five of the 118? my gosh. He he is so good. Roberto Con Queso: Forty five. He he had over half. Simeon Schlicher: Pretty close. Roberto Con Queso: 'Cause Simeon Schlicher: so follow up question Who are we playing? I heard like it's against it's the same team every week. Roberto Con Queso: Yes. Simeon Schlicher: Okay. Roberto Con Queso: So we are playing against Arch Manning, Bo Jackson, Kewan Lacey, Simeon Schlicher: Got it. Roberto Con Queso: Cam Coleman, Jeremiah Smith, Malachi Tony. I don't know Carter. He's a he's the tight end from Texas Tech. Micaiah: Yeah. Roberto Con Queso: Bowman, tight end from USC. Simeon Schlicher: So just the best players at each position. Micaiah: Right. Roberto Con Queso: Yeah, I took I also gave them West Virginia's defense, which is turning or not West Virginia, Virginia's defense, which is apparently just a monster because they got 32 points. Simeon Schlicher: Yeah, give him a defensive minded head coach. I see how it is. Roberto Con Queso: They scored thirty points every week so far, so yeah. Simeon Schlicher: I they've had an easy schedule up until this point, but whatever. Alright, Makaiah. Micaiah: funny Simeon Schlicher: Also, drop a deuce Alexander. Neither that didn't hit for either of you? Micaiah: yeah, yeah, yeah. No, no, no. I Roberto Con Queso: I get it. I just Micaiah: so when I so I when I when Carrie overhears these names, right, she'll Simeon Schlicher: Yeah. Micaiah: laugh if she hears a name. So I'll log on to the doc and I will update the doc. When I logged on last week to put in Turbo Richard from Indiana, Simeon Schlicher: Yeah. Yeah. Micaiah: it just said drop a deuce Alexander. And so I just start cracking up and then Carrie starts laughing. At she goes, yeah, the name Deuce Alexander is kinda funny. But what's funnier is the picture of Simeon going, you know what's really funny? Drop a Deuce Alexander, but I gotta write that down so I don't forget it with my ADHD. Roberto Con Queso: Ha ha ha Micaiah: That's what she was laughing at. Which is wa wait, true or false, that's why you did that. You wrote it in there real quick. That's why you did that. So you wouldn't forget. Yeah. Yeah. Simeon Schlicher: I was watching the LSU Old Miss game and I go, ha, I've thought of this multiple times. Why do they call him Deuce? It sounds like he's dropping a poop every single time. Micaiah: Droppin' a deuce Alexander. So we did add Turbo Richard. It got Simeon Schlicher: Yeah. For the record, he's the second. That's why they call him Deuce. Micaiah: Okay. Turbo Richard from Indiana got her really good. She heard Clev Lubin from Louisville. Simeon Schlicher: Great. Great. Micaiah: Good name. Roberto Con Queso: Deuce Alexander and he's the second. That joke writes itself Simeon Schlicher: Did you just now get that? Micaiah: my Robert. Neither did I until he said that. Yeah. Roberto Con Queso: Well, I didn't know he was the second. So now when it's Deuce Alexander and he's the second going number two, that writes itself. Simeon Schlicher: I'm looking that up. Yep. Micaiah: Yeah, yeah. Simeon Schlicher: Hilton De Keith Alexander the second. Micaiah: And then Roberto Con Queso: Milton De Keith. Micaiah: I was reviewing and doing my recap episode on Sunday, and Mississippi State's leading running back is Fluff Bothwell. And I'm doing this down here, and I just hear Carrie from upstairs just crack up laughing. So we got Fluff Bothwell. I actually think that Bothwell's funnier than Fluff. I'm sure Fluff's a nickname, but that's Roberto Con Queso: Sounds like a linebacker. Micaiah: it, it does. Bothwell, absolutely. highest ticket, lowest ticket, who's got that information? All right, Bob, go ahead. Roberto Con Queso: Got it. highest ticket. kind of surprising. Ohio State and Iowa. $248. Micaiah: Mm, okay. Game day will be their first time in twenty years, yep. Roberto Con Queso: Yep, yep, yep. lowest ticket Simeon Schlicher: Oof. Roberto Con Queso: is Western Michigan traveling to Buffalo. Ten bucks. Micaiah: Mm-hmm. Okay. Simeon Schlicher: Yeah, this is the first time in a while that a ticket the lowest ticket has not been a single digit. Roberto Con Queso: Yes. Simeon Schlicher: I can't I wish I could tell you too. Demario Fluff Bothwell is a running back, Robert, for the record. doesn't say his Wikipedia set page does not say why they call him Fluff. under personal life, Bothwell's family home burned down Christmas Eve twenty twenty three. Micaiah: What? Roberto Con Queso: Wha Simeon Schlicher: Why do I wanna know Yeah? Like not he got the Roberto Con Queso: Alright college game day? Like Wha What? Simeon Schlicher: nickname Fluff 'cause he had a teddy bear growing up or anything like that. I'll burn down in twenty Micaiah: House burned down in twenty twenty three. Roberto Con Queso: That that's the kind of stuff that you only find on college game day and they give you a fifteen minute video of this and then they're like Simeon Schlicher: Yeah. Micaiah: Who who Simeon Schlicher: Yeah. And it's Micaiah: wants to take a who wants to take a bet that that's gonna be a a piece on c on college game day this this Saturday? Simeon Schlicher: They do it eventually. Micaiah: All righty, ladies and g Rain Man's games. Simeon, we're confused by this. These are your games. Who doesn't want you to watch these games? The Illuminati? Them? Okay. Simeon Schlicher: Them. They don't want you to watch them. the joke was either, and I love that it I laughed for the record. I was in my car driving somewhere, and you're like, who is they? Who are they? And I'm just dying laughing in my car because I did exactly I trolled both of you. They is either you guys, you two, because you don't talk about these games, or more specifically, the general public. This is mostly college football. We're very much college football fans. So these are games that I want put on your radar because they mean something for one reason or another, or they're likely to be good football games. Point in proven, Washington, Minnesota, you both can suck it. You both made fun of me for putting it on the list. And guess what? Roberto Con Queso: It was ten thirty. Simeon Schlicher: It was a good game. Micaiah: Eleven PM. Eleven PM Did you stay up and watch the game? Roberto Con Queso: That's fine. No. Simeon Schlicher: No! I didn't watch any of the games on my list! Roberto Con Queso: It's not because of the teams. But what do you want me to do? Like Yeah. Simeon Schlicher: Just I I get that I Micaiah: We start at noon I can only I can't make it until two AM Simeon Schlicher: there are all sorts of time zones. We accept all time zones, all times for g starts, kickoffs. I'm just saying. Roberto Con Queso: No we don't. No we don't. Micaiah: No, no. And and Sime and Simeon if I may, the these were the kind of games I was trying to cover when we first started the podcast six years ago. And I got and I got chastised for because quote, no one's gonna pay attention to those. Simeon Schlicher: That's why it's a very tiny segment in our podcast. I just shrunk it. Gosh, like your mom. USC Washington, speaking of Micaiah: Alright, well go ahead go ahead with your games that you're not that you're not gonna pay attention to. Simeon Schlicher: Micaiah, for you, speaking of the upset, the chaos. This is one. That's why it's on the list. Micaiah: I I I I don't disagree, this will be a fantastic game. Simeon Schlicher: I I got three. I counted three. I couldn't tell you what the other one was that was possibly an upset. yeah, Boston College SMU. That's not on my list, but that was another one that could possibly be an upset. just for the way things are going. UVA FSU. depends which f FSU we get. but I think UVA lost one game and now everyone's kinda hush hush on them. Could easily beat not easily, could beat Miami. in a championship game at the end of the year at ACC. So we should be watching more UVA games. Auburn, Tennessee, that's your other upset. So there I actually did find all three for you. very possible. Auburn put themselves together finally this past week. Tennessee, shaky against Texas. I think this game is at is at Tennessee. I mean is at Auburn, which helps out a little bit. Micaiah: It's at Tennessee. Simeon Schlicher: Mm was wrong. So probably a loss, but will still be a good game to watch. I think it's an SEC game. I try not to put Pit Vatec, very two evenly matched teams statistically. very close from a betting lines perspective. So LA Las Vegas also agrees with me, L V also agrees with me. Should be a fun game to watch. Those like mid tier AC ACC teams are all as fun. Marshall JMU. Here's why I threw this one on. Marshall has one loss, that's the Penn State. JMU is undefeated in the Sun Belt, Thun Belt, and just undefeated in general. So it's gonna be a good Sun Belt game. Micaiah: And you need them to not lose a game, to not owe me five dollars. Simeon Schlicher: Is that is that our bet? Micaiah: That that's the bet right now. Simeon Schlicher: well this could be it for them. This last Micaiah: I think it's more I think the bet is more than one. One loss, one loss JMU. So it would be two losses or more. Simeon Schlicher: Okay. Well, this might be it. It'll be a good game. That game is in Harrisonburg. I did look it up. You can't correct me, but I'm right. last one. We're getting into finally conference play football. So teams with buys and stuff like that. They might have not played conferences yet. North Dakota State has played conference football. They are four and They're the only four and team in the Mountain West right now. They're playing Wyoming rivalry game. It's in the Fargo dome as well. So it's actually one of the most expensive games to attend because of limited seating and with how popular the game is. And there also is nothing to do with Fargo. So the fun part about this is you know who else is in is in is in the Mountain West this year? New Mexico. Who I think I one of these teams, it's either North Dakota or New Mexico, is averaging thirty six, thirty five points a game. scoring. So North Dakota State, New Mexico in three weeks will be a very fun game to watch. This one will also be a fun game to watch. I think it's on the CW at three thirty. I'm not a hundred percent sure, but no one cares. We're moving Micaiah: You Simeon Schlicher: on. Micaiah: you would be correct, by the way. Tickets $219 to that game. So Simeon Schlicher: That's the cheapest available ticket. Micaiah: that is high-level football. Simeon, and if you looked down to the games we are picking, Marshall JMU is one of them. So I saw the same I I saw the same thing you saw. Simeon Schlicher: I thought it wasn't. Okay. We're taking it off the list. Micaiah: So the games of the week to watch on your couch presented by Kindred Couches. Simeon Schlicher: K-Kindred. Micaiah: Everyone knows that a college sports fans' best friend is a comfy couch. At Kindred Couches, they have a huge selection of couches or sectionals that will fit any sports fans' need. Lots of good stuff there. Simeon Schlicher: before we start on this pick section, what are the other two games brought to you by Kindred Couches that I should be watching on my couch? We have a twelve thirty game. It's Mississippi State, Alabama. Micaiah: Mm-hmm. Yeah. Simeon Schlicher: What's my three thirty game that I should be watching? I don't want to do two SECs back to back. Micaiah: I mean, you you could do I mean Ohio State, Iowa, right? If you Simeon Schlicher: It's good. Micaiah: think if you think that game's gonna be close, you might as well do that one. or if you really wanna get funky with it, go to Wyoming, North Dakota State. Simeon Schlicher: Ooh, over in the CW. That's a good point. Micaiah: Yeah. and then if you're looking for one in seven at seven thirty. Baba, I'm thinking Washington USC because I think Miami just gives it to Clemson and Texas Tech gives it to Colorado. Simeon Schlicher: Sixteen and a half. Yes on Texas Tech and Colorado. Roberto Con Queso: Who did you who who did you say? Micaiah: For the seven thirty time slot. Simeon Schlicher: Miami Clemson. What's the what's the seven thirty game that I should be paying attention to? Micaiah: I I think it's Washington US C. Roberto Con Queso: I mean, the safe bet is Washington UNC. I would s I to be honest with you, I don't know why. I'm kinda liking the Miami Clemson. I don't know why. I don't know why. Simeon Schlicher: I think it'd be a fun game. Micaiah: Okay. Simeon Schlicher: It's in Clemson and it's a night game in Clemson. So it should at least Micaiah: Yeah, yeah. Simeon Schlicher: be a fun game. Roberto Con Queso: This this could this would this would be the perfect redemption game after getting shellacked by LSU but then turn around and beat Miami. Micaiah: Dabo would not let the Simeon Schlicher: See, we keep saying that. Micaiah: the let the media hear the end of it. Absolutely. It'd be such Roberto Con Queso: Yep. Yep. Yep. That would say that would save his job. Micaiah: it would be such a Dabo thing to do. Alrighty. So we are going to mix it up a little bit. So hopefully we don't follow each other's picks. Simeon. Okay. Okay. Simeon Schlicher: I'm just following Robert. Whatever Robert No, I'm j I'm joking. I'm joking. Roberto Con Queso: Ha ha ha ha. Micaiah: Well, you know what? Let's have the leader lead off. Robert, Simeon Schlicher: That's fair. Micaiah: Alabama, Mississippi State. Who you got? Roberto Con Queso: We're going with Alabama. Micaiah: Okay. Simeon, you're gonna write down your own picks under your pick section. I Simeon Schlicher: Okay. That's that's fine. I'm also go ahead. Go ahead. Micaiah: I was just gonna say I'm also taking Alabama. Okay, great. Off to a great st Simeon Schlicher: Yeah, we're gonna so Mississippi Roberto Con Queso: Yeah. Simeon Schlicher: State's gonna upset Alabama, for sure. I'm also gonna take Alabama. Micaiah: Michigan, Minnesota, both teams three and one. Michigan's got a bye week next week. Minnesota comes off a great win at Washington on an 8 p.m. local kick. Got dominated by Mississippi State earlier. I'm gonna lead it off. I love Michigan. I think their trajectory is going up and up. Obviously, I love Michigan, but as a college football fan, I'm just seeing a lot of stuff I like. So Michigan retains a little brown job. Simeon. Simeon Schlicher: Yeah, I mean Minnesota's wins were against eastern Illinois and Akron, not including Washington in their loss to Mississippi State. I don't want to pick this, but I'm picking Michigan as well. Roberto Con Queso: You know I like I like Michigan in the matchup, but I still really haven't seen Michigan play a full complete game yet. give me I'll give me Minnesota. Micaiah: All right. So Roberts two and right off the bat, clearly. Ohio State I Ohio State Simeon Schlicher: Least we're one in one, you know? Roberto Con Queso: Yeah. Micaiah: Ohio State, Iowa. Simeon, you go first. Simeon Schlicher: Yeah. J T was short, but Ohio State's winning the game. Micaiah: Robert. Roberto Con Queso: State. Yeah, it's kinda that's a tough Micaiah: I I do not think it's tough at all. I think it's Ohio State by two to three scores, and I think it is close, maybe four a half. Again, I am the outlier in this situation. Gimme Ohio State and gimme Ohio State big. Florida, Missouri, Robert. Roberto Con Queso: Gimme Flow Rider. Micaiah: I am gonna go with Missouri. I just I chaos is abound. I gotta pick some chaos at some point in time. Florida coming off a big win. Missouri's got good rushing defense. And Austin Simmons can spin it. Hopefully they can pull the and they're at home. Give me a Missouri. Simeon Schlicher: Mm. No, I know I talked smack on before, but I believe in Missouri as much as I believe in Michigan, give me Florida. Micaiah: Okay. Eastern Michigan and UMass. UMass. Thank you. Thank you. Simeon Schlicher: Mickayah, great, great selection. Fantastic. Micaiah: UMass got more votes than AP votes than Clemson this past week and Oklahoma. Simeon Schlicher: Yeah. Micaiah: They got nine. The both of these teams are one and in the max. The UMA or the Minutemen from UMass are 4-0. This game's on 330 ESPN Plus. So you gotta, you gotta get that. By the way, Eastern Michigan's losses, three losses were to San Jose State, Michigan State, Wisconsin. So two of the three were to a power for Big Ten team. Robert, can the Minutemen keep it going with this amazing turnaround? Roberto Con Queso: I feel like the easy pick is to take UMass. I am going to you know what? Let's live on the edge. I got I got some wiggle room. Give me eastern Michigan. Micaiah: Okay. I'm gonna take I'm gonna take UMass UMass at home and aga they've been playing well. So congratulations to the Eastern Michigan Eagles for beating the UMass Minuteman. Simeon Schlicher: if there are two head coaches that will not be coaching at their current stop next year, it's Jason Eckett, New Mexico and it's Joe Har Haresimik. I don't know how to pronounce his last name, head coach of UMass. Just Micaiah: He was a defensive coordinator for Rutgers last season. So maybe that's what also what led it Simeon Schlicher: Yeah, like what a turnaround. I don't care who you are. Four and after Don Brown won six games total in his second stint with UMass. I don't know if they Micaiah: poor Donnie. Simeon Schlicher: dumped money into the pr yeah I don't know if they dumped money into the program or what, but yeah. Micaiah: Man coverage Don Brown. okay. Simeon Marshall JMU. JMU's undefeated. Simeon Schlicher: Give me JMU. Micaiah: Robert Roberto Con Queso: I have JMU as well. Micaiah: I am just gonna piggyback off of that and go with JMU as well. they're at home and they got a great home field advantage. And finally, Baylor and Arizona State, each team only with one loss, wide open Big 12, every game is needed. DJ Lagway, Kenny Dillingham should be a a good one. 1030 ESPN. Robert, you staying up for it? Great. who do you have, Baylor or Arizona State? Roberto Con Queso: fun fact for you, DJ Lagway is not even the leading passer for Baylor. Simeon Schlicher: He's not. That's hilarious. Nate Bennett. Roberto Con Queso: It's a it's actually Nate Bennett. so I am going to you know what? Gimme the Baylor Bears. Micaiah: Okay. Better defense, I think. Simeon. Simeon Schlicher: because I'm trying to claw my way out of this, I wanna pick Arizona State, but for the game it's Baylor. Micaiah: I'm gonna activate that valley and give me Arizona State at home. I think Kenny Dillingham's kind of got things rocking and rolling. Who did Arizona State lose to? Who who was their loss? A and and a Roberto Con Queso: A and Simeon Schlicher: I have it up here. Texas Tameo, yeah. Micaiah: AM and that unfortunately. Roberto Con Queso: By four scores. Micaiah: Yeah. yes. Yes, four scores. A little misleading Simeon Schlicher: Seven years ago. Micaiah: on that, but yes. Roberto Con Queso: Amen, brother. Micaiah: Robert, are you staying up for Hawaii? Leven fifty nine PM Mountain West Plus. Roberto Con Queso: You know what? Wait, it's on Mountain West Plus? Why did Wha Micaiah: That's what it says. Simeon Schlicher: They don't even know. Roberto Con Queso: Why do you need a Mountain West Plus? Micaiah: For all the Mountain West fans. Roberto Con Queso: 1159 PM. That means if I go to bed and I wake up about 2 AM, it'll just start of the fourth quarter. Yeah. Micaiah: Probably still be on. Yeah, probably still be on. Roberto Con Queso: listen. If I was a 100% dedicated football fan, I would. But sometimes the big dog's gotta sleep. Micaiah: And that's where we will leave you for today's episode. Thank you so much for being here, if I can get the words out. Make sure you wash your hands, you filthy Roberto Con Queso: Ha ha ha Micaiah: animals. Come back Sunday for a recap. Come back next week for a brand new episode. Thank you so much. God bless you. Simeon Schlicher: To t today. Micaiah: Peace out.
