Latest / 22 Panels - A Comic Book Podcast / Saga Book Club #6: Volume 6
Transcript
- 0:01Tad Eggleston: Good evening, everybody. Welcome back to the Saga Book Club on…
- 0:08Tad Eggleston: 22 panels. Lee's… Lee's throwing a fist in the air, and not in the bad way. It was a pumped fist, not a… not a…
- 0:18Larry Woods: I'm excited, Fist, I'm super excited.
- 0:20Tad Eggleston: Yeah, it wasn't a Josh Hawley before running through the… the hallways fist, it was a…
- 0:29Tad Eggleston: It was a rah-rah fist.
- 0:33Tad Eggleston: But, yeah, Volume 6. Volume 6… might be…
- 0:47Tad Eggleston: Of the first 9, it's my favorite volume. It's not necessarily the best volume, but it's, like, it's the happiest volume, so it's my favorite volume, if that makes sense.
- 0:59Tad Eggleston: No, I mean, it's the one where…
- 1:05Tad Eggleston: Like, the hardest stuff is at the beginning, and the best stuff is at the end, so… so… so you get to…
- 1:12Tad Eggleston: A, you can feel that you're building towards happy, so even the hard stuff isn't as bad as it could be, because you can feel that momentum.
- 1:23Tad Eggleston: But, like, it also ends with, like…
- 1:28Matt: at least in saga terms, the super hap… I mean, you remember Wayne's World, and let's go with the super happy ending! Right.
- 1:37Tad Eggleston: That's what it feels like.
- 1:41belle price: Yeah, I think… I think I mentioned this earlier in the podcast, like, on earlier episodes, but for, like, the first three volumes, I remember saying, like, after the third volume, I was like, they're tying off all the stuff from the first volume. So since this is six, this is, like, the second time they're doing that. They're taking 4, 5, 6, tying off 4, 5, 6.
- 1:58Tad Eggleston: I don't.
- 1:59belle price: Feeling so happy, because there's so much conflict that's been building.
- 2:02Tad Eggleston: Well, I think also, you know, this shows us how aware…
- 2:12Tad Eggleston: Brian and Fiona are of the different ways in which
- 2:18Tad Eggleston: the comic is released, because every issue works as a single issue. I mean, if we'd wanted to, we could have gone…
- 2:27Tad Eggleston: Issue by issue, and we would have filled up the time. Easy. Right. Easy. No problem.
- 2:33Tad Eggleston: So, each, each comic works?
- 2:39Tad Eggleston: As a standalone story.
- 2:41Matt: each…
- 2:51Tad Eggleston: Trade paperback works as a standalone story.
- 2:54Tad Eggleston: each… Hardcover, which is 3 volumes, so 18 issues. This is the end of the second hardcover. Works as…
- 3:06Tad Eggleston: A pretty good standalone story.
- 3:09Tad Eggleston: And… and for that matter,
- 3:15Tad Eggleston: Each omnibus is gonna wind up working pretty well as a standalone story, because the first one already does, and there's only gonna be one more, so unless they completely fail at the end, which I just don't see happening.
- 3:30Tad Eggleston: Like, I have no doubt that they're sticking this landing, right?
- 3:35Tad Eggleston: Each 54-issue omnibus is gonna work well as a standalone story.
- 3:43Tad Eggleston: There's something really special about that, to manage to…
- 3:48Tad Eggleston: To package something so that it can be… Great in different ways.
- 4:00Tad Eggleston: sizes.
- 4:02Tad Eggleston: Yeah, is the word I'm looking for.
- 4:05Tad Eggleston: But, yeah, this is… this is the… the overwhelmingly happy one.
- 4:11Tad Eggleston: Which is what makes it… Amazing.
- 4:17Tad Eggleston: Those are my initial thoughts. Anybody else have initial thoughts before we really… Start… digging in.
- 4:26Matt: No, that… I think you summed it up, dude.
- 4:30Tad Eggleston: Okay, we're done.
- 4:31Larry Woods: Oh, no.
- 4:34Larry Woods: I would definitely agree that, especially the readability, and this is not something that I really considered when I first read Saga.
- 4:41Larry Woods: is just how… Well it read as a trade paperback.
- 4:46Larry Woods: Cause that's when I got into it. It was… I think I remember it was, like, 2 or 3 years after they already had started, so…
- 4:54Larry Woods: I had already… I picked up Volume 1, and then literally finished it one night, and then the next day, went and bought every volume that they had available.
- 5:04Larry Woods: which I think it got up to, like, 5 or 6, I believe.
- 5:08Tad Eggleston: Okay.
- 5:09Larry Woods: And then from there, I just collected the floppies. So…
- 5:13Larry Woods: It definitely, Tad, to your point of…
- 5:17Larry Woods: Reading the trade, those 4, 5, 6 issues, whichever volume is appropriate there, and even just individual
- 5:25Larry Woods: comics. It reads so well, like…
- 5:29Tad Eggleston: Yeah.
- 5:31Larry Woods: Whether it be a sad ending, a happy ending, an in-between ending, a cliffhanger, whatever the case, there's always something that's like, okay, but what's gonna happen next?
- 5:40Larry Woods: Like, still that drive to read that next issue.
- 5:44Tad Eggleston: Yeah.
- 5:45belle price: I totally agree with that, actually. That's why I binged it when I first read it. I read it online, on my iPad. Yeah.
- 5:53Tad Eggleston: Yeah.
- 5:53belle price: high school, and I didn't stop until I was done, and every so often, I would come to the landing, and yell down to my dad in his office, and be like, Dad! Can you believe they did da-da-da? And he's like, keep reading! Every time. Keep reading.
- 6:07belle price: reading, and then the last issue happened, and then I went.
- 6:10belle price: What?
- 6:11belle price: So, it was just a rollercoaster.
- 6:15Tad Eggleston: Well, and this, this also has one of my favorite, and it's not an opening splash quite, but the opening forepanel of this is just fucking nuts, with.
- 6:28Matt: With the farts. The farting.
- 6:30Tad Eggleston: Yeah.
- 6:31Tad Eggleston: This is… this is 2D Stinkfoot.
- 6:33belle price: This is so much.
- 6:34Tad Eggleston: foot, foot man who has very bad gas.
- 6:39belle price: Poppers.
- 6:41Tad Eggleston: I, I, I, I occasionally think about
- 6:45Tad Eggleston: Asking my wife to make me a 2D stinkfoot.
- 6:49Tad Eggleston: T-shirt, but I think for it to really work, I'd have to convince her to do it in…
- 6:56Tad Eggleston: 4 colors.
- 7:01Larry Woods: Blessings.
- 7:02Tad Eggleston: As little red, green, and… puke yellow, as there is.
- 7:12belle price: I mean, the far…
- 7:13Tad Eggleston: Diarrhea yellow as there is, like, it's all totally essential. If you didn't do it at full color, it wouldn't work.
- 7:25Tad Eggleston: No, actually, I think one of the craziest things I've ever seen, I want to say, in a letters page, they had… because they have their cosplay editions.
- 7:37Tad Eggleston: you know, their annual cosplay contest, and I'm 99% certain that they had… I think it was in their letters page, I might have seen it somewhere else, but somebody cosplaying as the.
- 7:49Matt: 2D stink foot.
- 7:51belle price: That's…
- 7:53Tad Eggleston: I mean… I mean, it's also just… it's, it's total…
- 7:59Tad Eggleston: total, testament to, like, the depth of this book, that, you know, you have people cosplaying as a drawing by Hazel.
- 8:10belle price: Like, there for one panel.
- 8:12Tad Eggleston: Right.
- 8:15Tad Eggleston: I mean, there's a discussion of it on the next page. I mean, I love how it, like, continues that, that, like…
- 8:24belle price: It disrupts the whole glass.
- 8:26Matt: They should do a mini…
- 8:29Tad Eggleston: Yeah, but they're all laughing, and she's like, Hazel, I'm glad your vocabulary choices are slightly less inappropriate, which is the first great line there.
- 8:40Matt: Yes. I was like, oh, I can relate to that.
- 8:42belle price: But…
- 8:43Tad Eggleston: The assignment was to draw something that makes you feel sad. I know, Noreen, but nothing makes me sadder than how bad Tootie's toots smell.
- 8:55Matt: That's brilliant.
- 8:59Tad Eggleston: Which, I mean, it's… yes, it's brilliant, but it's not even the funniest hazel panel of this issue.
- 9:08belle price: Nope.
- 9:09Tad Eggleston: Because later in the issue is when she shows Noreen her wings.
- 9:15belle price: Nope.
- 9:18Tad Eggleston: I guess it's the next issue.
- 9:20Tad Eggleston: that we've got the crazy… the funnier line from her, because when Noreen… because Noreen passes out at the end of this issue.
- 9:31Matt: Yep.
- 9:32Tad Eggleston: Is it actually… no, wow, no, we don't them for…
- 9:36Tad Eggleston: Is it… is it 3 issues later?
- 9:38Matt: I think so. It's 3… yes.
- 9:40Tad Eggleston: Yeah, I completely forgot that this volume…
- 9:46Tad Eggleston: Has way more stories that… er, way more issues that stay in one place.
- 9:54Tad Eggleston: Rather than, like, 2 pages here, 3 pages there. But when she wakes up and, and, and…
- 10:00Tad Eggleston: And she's asked how…
- 10:03Tad Eggleston: Oh, where is that line? Oh, yes. Well, my mommy is from this planet, and my daddy is from the moon, and he loved her so much that he put his penis inside her, and then I got in my mom's tummy, which made her happy, except now she can't go in bounce houses because they make her go pee a little bit.
- 10:23Matt: Yeah.
- 10:26Tad Eggleston: I'm sitting there going, this is so crazy, particularly considering, like, she hasn't seen her mom since she was barely walking.
- 10:36Tad Eggleston: So, this is a mixture of things she's picked up from grandma and things she remembers from being a toddler.
- 10:44Matt: Yipper!
- 10:48Tad Eggleston: Oh, well, grandma or, or… Or,
- 10:52Tad Eggleston: Isabelle, it's so nice to have Isabelle back.
- 10:56Tad Eggleston: But yeah.
- 10:58belle price: My name's Lynn, I love her.
- 11:00Tad Eggleston: Yeah. This is… this is… this is the… this is the volume where… where Hazel starts to… I mean, we've always had a little bit of Hazel's character, because she's the narrator, but, like, she really starts to flesh out in this volume.
- 11:13Matt: Yes, yes.
- 11:14Tad Eggleston: I love it.
- 11:16Matt: Hazel becoming the pig doctor was, like, one of my favorite Little segments.
- 11:22Tad Eggleston: Isabelle is the pig doctor, yeah.
- 11:24Matt: Yeah, I love that. It was so great.
- 11:28Larry Woods: Like I said.
- 11:29Larry Woods: I think we could swear on this, right?
- 11:34Tad Eggleston: I think I already have. I mean, I said penis.
- 11:38Matt: This isn't a swear word.
- 11:41Tad Eggleston: Well, no, but…
- 11:43belle price: That's more scientific than anything.
- 11:45Larry Woods: Well, I'll give you that, you know. Yeah, there we go.
- 11:51Tad Eggleston: I love that… I've always loved that Saga is very trans-positive.
- 11:56Tad Eggleston: Yup.
- 11:58belle price: It's everything positive.
- 12:00Tad Eggleston: Well, yes, that too.
- 12:01belle price: Saga's just, like, such a… I don't know. It's the… what's the one comic I actually recommend to, like, all my friends? Like, anyone who reads… anyone who knows how to read, so literally everyone, I'm like, this… there's a space opera that you should read.
- 12:13belle price: Yeah.
- 12:14Matt: The only other comic that I know that's this trans-friendly is Grim Jack.
- 12:20Tad Eggleston: Yeah.
- 12:21Matt: I have not read anything else, and that might be my small, limited, what I've read.
- 12:27Matt: There's, there's…
- 12:29Tad Eggleston: Yeah, there's, there's definitely, definitely other ones, but… but what I was gonna say, in terms of recommendations, is, like…
- 12:38Tad Eggleston: to me, there are exactly two comics that I'll recommend to almost everybody.
- 12:45Tad Eggleston: And really, one comic that I will recommend to everybody, and one comic that I will recommend to absolutely anybody over the age of 18, and most people over the age of 12.
- 12:57Tad Eggleston: So, Saga is the anybody over 18 and most people over the age of 12, and Bone is the absolutely anybody.
- 13:06belle price: Yup.
- 13:07belle price: And those are the.
- 13:08Tad Eggleston: Those are my two favorite books in the world. Those are the only two I have omnibuses for, they're the only two that are at college with me, like, those are good books.
- 13:15belle price: They're the books. With good reason. Yup. With good reason. Yup.
- 13:19belle price: Oh.
- 13:20Tad Eggleston: I mean, you know, I can't believe, actually, that I haven't even thought about doing a Bone book club, so maybe when we get caught up on Saga, we should do Bone. Yeah, you have to.
- 13:30Tad Eggleston: Lee, have you read Bone?
- 13:32Larry Woods: I have not yet, unfortunately.
- 13:33belle price: Oh my god.
- 13:35belle price: Red Bone.
- 13:36Matt: I'm in if you do that. Yeah.
- 13:40Tad Eggleston: Bone is amazing as well.
- 13:42belle price: It's so good.
- 13:44Tad Eggleston: Similar length.
- 13:47Matt: Yeah, or at least…
- 13:49Tad Eggleston: No, no, no, it was 50 issues, so it's similar length to what we have from Saga now.
- 13:53Matt: Bone was only 50 issues?
- 13:55Tad Eggleston: No, it was 50 issues, exactly.
- 13:56belle price: It's like a one saga omnibus show.
- 14:00Tad Eggleston: It was 50 issues exactly, and then there were, I think, 3 one-shot, like, stupid, stupid rat tails.
- 14:08Tad Eggleston: And then the, the… Rose. The Rose…
- 14:11belle price: Yeah, there's rows, there's also a couple of, like.
- 14:14Tad Eggleston: Yeah, the Rose miniseries.
- 14:16belle price: I have those in my room upstairs.
- 14:18belle price: home, but I've got, like, a bunch of the offshoot books, too.
- 14:21Tad Eggleston: Right.
- 14:22Tad Eggleston: But, but those are… those are… I mean, none of them are… I mean, again, you got the stupid, stupid rat creatures is like…
- 14:30Tad Eggleston: A collection of shorts, and it's like…
- 14:33Tad Eggleston: It's essentially the equivalent of a four-issue collection.
- 14:38Tad Eggleston: Rose is probably the… equivalent of a… well, I think Rose was 5 issues.
- 14:46Tad Eggleston: Cause it did come out as single issues.
- 14:49Tad Eggleston: And then he, he did CODA… What, 10 years later?
- 14:57Tad Eggleston: And he did a couple of, of novels with pictures?
- 15:04Tad Eggleston: I want to say…
- 15:05belle price: I have my own handbook, too, and I own.
- 15:07Tad Eggleston: Yeah, he… Yeah, he did a handbook.
- 15:09belle price: Okay, because that's the other part I was thinking of.
- 15:11Tad Eggleston: Yeah, yeah.
- 15:12belle price: Stupid Rat Creatures, I have rows, and I have one more, and I think it's the handbook. I think that's the third one I was thinking of.
- 15:16Tad Eggleston: He did, like, a kid's book…
- 15:20Tad Eggleston: centered on Smiley and a dream?
- 15:27Tad Eggleston: So, so there's a little bit more in the universe than just those 50 issues, but the main story is 50 issues. There's the 5-issue Rose prequel.
- 15:40Matt: that Charles Vest illustrated.
- 15:41Tad Eggleston: Right.
- 15:42Tad Eggleston: the, the, the stupid rat creatures is kind of, In-universe… shorts aside…
- 15:52Tad Eggleston: And then everything else is… is, like… A little bit different.
- 16:00Tad Eggleston: Yeah, that's the best way to put it. I'd have to pull it all out to know… to get into deeper, and this is the Saga Book Club.
- 16:08belle price: Well, I have one more thing. Can I share one more thing about bowling?
- 16:10Tad Eggleston: Oh, absolutely.
- 16:10Larry Woods: Absolutely.
- 16:12belle price: Because you know what? It's my favorite comic ever, and it's always gonna be number one, only because it's his childhood character. I think it's so.
- 16:18Tad Eggleston: Yeah. Oh, oh, yeah.
- 16:20belle price: Jeff Smith went and wrote a whole freakin' 50-issue omnibus.
- 16:23Tad Eggleston: well.
- 16:24belle price: Greatest comics ever.
- 16:25Tad Eggleston: This is a childhood character, and he's like… I mean, I sure…
- 16:27belle price: since he was.
- 16:28Tad Eggleston: I showed you, when you were here, the… the… the…
- 16:32belle price: My favorite.
- 16:34Tad Eggleston: I showed you my copy of… he released a collection, it's…
- 16:40Tad Eggleston: It started in publication as a comic strip in the Lantern at Ohio State. I showed you that while.
- 16:47belle price: Yeah, I've also read about those on the Bone Fandom. Well, but what I… but what…
- 16:53Tad Eggleston: But what I really mean is what I really showed you when you were here, like, in the Kickstarter edition, he included 3 mini-comics. Yeah. It included the Bone characters, the earliest of which he made when he was 8.
- 17:11belle price: He's like, what, 7, 8? Yeah.
- 17:14Tad Eggleston: And, like, they felt fully formed.
- 17:19belle price: So crazy to me.
- 17:21Tad Eggleston: So, yeah.
- 17:23belle price: I had a character when I was little, I would draw Super Bell, and I would make my dad Superbell comics, and I bet you he still has them right in front of his spider… that one Spider-Man box down in the basement.
- 17:31Matt: I do.
- 17:32belle price: as a kid, that really resonated with me, that he took… because I think I found out.
- 17:36Tad Eggleston: So you're gonna become a chemist, a Nobel Prize-winning chemist, and a super bell cartoonist, is that what you're going for here?
- 17:44belle price: Oh, if I could be a cartoonist, that would be the coolest thing.
- 17:47Tad Eggleston: You're gonna take… you're gonna take Big Bang Level… Big Bang Theory to the next level?
- 17:56belle price: If anything, I'd write, and I'd have my dad draw, to be honest with you.
- 17:59Tad Eggleston: Oh, God.
- 18:01belle price: You kidding?
- 18:03Tad Eggleston: So… .
- 18:06Larry Woods: And if you catch me quiet, I'm literally looking up bone right now to By the way.
- 18:13Tad Eggleston: Lee's down the rabbit hole, going, what's this bone thing that I missed? They said it's all ages, so it can't be the bone I was initially thinking.
- 18:23Larry Woods: Nope, absolutely not.
- 18:27Larry Woods: Yep.
- 18:29Larry Woods: But it's actually funny, because I…
- 18:32Larry Woods: as it does relate to a bone of sorts, but I thought one thing that was, like, pretty endearing was interaction between
- 18:41Larry Woods: I don't know, I'm gonna butcher her name. Petriacor?
- 18:47Tad Eggleston: Patrick Horr.
- 18:47Larry Woods: the, the grandmother…
- 18:50Larry Woods: With Hazel in the prison, when it was, like, the sort of parts, as it were. So…
- 18:57Larry Woods: what was endearing to me was, even though it's an uncomfortable sort of situation, clearly Petracor didn't really care,
- 19:06Larry Woods: Maybe because she was so callous, but she still… Is that childlike curiosity?
- 19:12Larry Woods: It's like, well, but you have this, right? Going back to the whole idea of, like, mom can't go into a bouncy castle, because she has to pee, right?
- 19:20Tad Eggleston: Right? It's…
- 19:22Larry Woods: That childlike curiosity is sort of still being…
- 19:27Larry Woods: There, and even the hardened grandmother.
- 19:31Larry Woods: Excuse my language, but at least the way she's presented thus far, just being a complete Bitch.
- 19:37Tad Eggleston: Yeah.
- 19:37Larry Woods: very… just seems so soft, in a way. At least that's the way I read it.
- 19:42Tad Eggleston: Well, I mean, the first… In a comic that's full of…
- 19:50Tad Eggleston: twists and turns and surprises. The first thing that really, really shocked me when I was reading this…
- 19:59Tad Eggleston: And, and like, even knowing it's coming still gets me every time, is at the end of this, this volume, where the only…
- 20:11Tad Eggleston: Wrinkle in the super happy ending, is…
- 20:17Tad Eggleston: Marco's mother saying, no, I'm staying.
- 20:21Tad Eggleston: Let me stay in prison and thrive.
- 20:26Tad Eggleston: And, like, Petrichor going, okay, I'll take your spot.
- 20:34Tad Eggleston: And then, obviously, leading to… to another… another scene of great confusion, because…
- 20:43Tad Eggleston: Hazel had allowed Petrichor to believe that it was her… her mother that was a horn, and her father
- 20:51Tad Eggleston: where…
- 20:52Matt: when…
- 20:53Tad Eggleston: And, and, and… Yeah.
- 20:58Tad Eggleston: But,
- 21:01Tad Eggleston: But yeah, I was totally blown away, and every time, totally. And I don't think we're done with Grandma.
- 21:11Tad Eggleston: I mean, we haven't seen her since this moment.
- 21:14Matt: I don't think.
- 21:16belle price: I'm excited.
- 21:16Tad Eggleston: I don't… but I don't.
- 21:18Matt: Not that I'm aware of.
- 21:18Tad Eggleston: her.
- 21:20belle price: I'm excited if she comes back. I liked Grandma.
- 21:23Tad Eggleston: Yeah.
- 21:25Tad Eggleston: Yeah.
- 21:26Tad Eggleston: And the will had better watch out.
- 21:31Tad Eggleston: Spoiler alert.
- 21:33Larry Woods: Yeah.
- 21:34Larry Woods: Just… yeah.
- 21:36Larry Woods: I still, like, fuck that guy. I'm sorry, he's…
- 21:40Tad Eggleston: Cuz, cuz, cuz, like…
- 21:42belle price: He gets his Fat Thor era here. I mean, we see him at his worst.
- 21:46Tad Eggleston: Yeah. But, but, but grandma has taken no… no vows of nonviolence.
- 21:54belle price: Why would she do that?
- 21:55Tad Eggleston: That's my point.
- 21:58Tad Eggleston: No, I mean, she is reading Heist to, to, to prisoners, so, I mean…
- 22:05belle price: I mean, but that's just… her heart's in the right place. I mean, it's like… it's like… it's like Peacemaker, or like Deadpool, you know what I mean? His heart's in the right place. You know what I mean?
- 22:15Tad Eggleston: Sometimes.
- 22:16Larry Woods: He just always fucks it up.
- 22:17belle price: When he has a heart.
- 22:20Tad Eggleston: When he has a heart, it seems to be in the right place.
- 22:25Larry Woods: When it regenerates, yeah.
- 22:27Tad Eggleston: Actually…
- 22:28belle price: I'm talking about the movie Deadpool, by the way, here, because that is, like, my comfort movie, that's my ultimate movie, and that is a love story, he says it right there, so…
- 22:36Tad Eggleston: See, my favorite of the Deadpools is Once Upon a Deadpool.
- 22:44Larry Woods: PG-131.
- 22:46Tad Eggleston: the PG-13 cut of Deadpool 2.
- 22:50Tad Eggleston: Where he kidnaps Fred Savage and puts him in the Princess Bride room.
- 22:57Matt: You haven't seen that.
- 22:58Tad Eggleston: It's… it's fucking hilarious.
- 23:01Tad Eggleston: I mean, somehow, in making the movie PG-13, they also made it so much… more wrong.
- 23:12Tad Eggleston: I mean, honestly, I gotta wonder about the parents that would allow their kid to see that version of the movie, but not the other.
- 23:23Tad Eggleston: It's like, I'm… I'm okay with him…
- 23:27Tad Eggleston: Violently kidnapping a… a celebrity to…
- 23:34Tad Eggleston: Reenact a movie from… or a scene from a 30-year-old movie to tell the story that's just as violent, but doesn't have as many sex jokes.
- 23:50Matt: Americans are okay with violence, they're not okay with sex, I don't know why.
- 23:54Tad Eggleston: I don't either.
- 23:55belle price: We can actually see that a lot in the way that anime and Japanese animation developed instead of American, but that's a conversation for another day. That's a really cool topic, though, to dive into.
- 24:05Tad Eggleston: It is.
- 24:06Tad Eggleston: I also loved… the, the… the teacher?
- 24:16Tad Eggleston: With, anyone who thinks… one.
- 24:20belle price: He's one of my favorites.
- 24:21Matt: That's what… that is my favorite quote from the series so far.
- 24:26Tad Eggleston: Yeah.
- 24:26Tad Eggleston: Anyone who thinks one book has all the answers hasn't read enough books.
- 24:32Matt: Yep.
- 24:36belle price: But yeah, I love her. She reminds me of my preschool teacher. I was not the most well-behaved kid in preschool either, and I had a lot of things going on, too, and…
- 24:43Tad Eggleston: Well-behaved kids in preschool?
- 24:46Tad Eggleston: You show me a well-behaved…
- 24:48belle price: I would agree.
- 24:48Tad Eggleston: preschool, and I'll tell you, a kid whose parents borderline abused them.
- 24:52Matt: I was evil.
- 24:53belle price: I was told I was… I was demon child. However, my preschool teacher
- 24:58belle price: And I had a similar relationship to, like, how Hazel and her teacher get along, and that is always so endearing to me to read. Like, warms my heart that, like, she had someone when she was that little that she could rely on, and, like, that knew what was going on, and, like, it just… it makes me feel, like, hope in my heart that there are good teachers and good people out there.
- 25:14belle price: Because I've also…
- 25:14Tad Eggleston: I hope so. I try to be one of them.
- 25:16belle price: Yeah.
- 25:17Tad Eggleston: It's hard sometimes.
- 25:18belle price: I don't doubt you are one, my mom's one.
- 25:21Tad Eggleston: Yeah.
- 25:24Tad Eggleston: You got two puppies in the room with you.
- 25:28Matt: Yes, I do. And they're finally quiet. They drive me crazy.
- 25:31belle price: Don't say that, don't say it too fast, knock on wood real quick. Yeah, for sure. You're gonna jinx yourself.
- 25:39belle price: Those dogs don't stay quiet for long.
- 25:41belle price: Let me tell you.
- 25:42Larry Woods: This is the part where I just want to go back to shitting on Will.
- 25:46Matt: Yeah, we can do that.
- 25:47Tad Eggleston: Shit on the wheel.
- 25:48Larry Woods: And mostly because…
- 25:50Tad Eggleston: You have to call him the Will.
- 25:52Larry Woods: The will, right, there's a… The will.
- 25:54belle price: I kind of like the disrespect of just going with people.
- 25:58Tad Eggleston: No, no, no, no, because there is a… there is a period in the book where he is just Will, but this part is… well, he's the Will.
- 26:08Tad Eggleston: He hasn't been stripped of it yet.
- 26:10Tad Eggleston: I mean, so I guess you're kind of shitting on him, but then… but then you don't get to… then you don't get to glory in when the universe shits on him.
- 26:19belle price: Yeah, well…
- 26:20Larry Woods: I mean… We're getting there.
- 26:22belle price: What's more shit?
- 26:24Larry Woods: But the reason why is because I think this is where Goose, like, is quickly becoming my second favorite character.
- 26:33Larry Woods: Behind Isabelle.
- 26:35Larry Woods: It's just… God, this little guy that…
- 26:39Tad Eggleston: With his chopper.
- 26:41Larry Woods: But this… so much heart, and we talk about heart and Deadpool, like, this guy…
- 26:46Matt: Yo?
- 26:48Larry Woods: I, I… I've been, like, as I reread it, and I'm still looking through the panels now, it's like.
- 26:54Larry Woods: Maybe it's just that underdog mentality.
- 26:57Larry Woods: That, like, he's not gonna… He's not gonna mess up well.
- 27:02Tad Eggleston: Tiny.
- 27:03Tad Eggleston: Mr. Goose is not sure who you think you are, but Goose swears on the buried treasure of the House of Goose that…
- 27:12Tad Eggleston: Sniffed.
- 27:15Tad Eggleston: FRENDO!
- 27:17Matt: Yeah, yeah.
- 27:18Matt: I just, yeah, this is so great!
- 27:22belle price: Funko Pops that I still need one of.
- 27:26Larry Woods: Yeah.
- 27:27Tad Eggleston: I, I haven't.
- 27:28Tad Eggleston: It's… he's in his pajamas.
- 27:29belle price: I need it.
- 27:31Tad Eggleston: He's in this.
- 27:32belle price: I need it right now. I have, I have the money, it's right here.
- 27:36belle price: I need it.
- 27:39Tad Eggleston: It was a… it was a hot… topic…
- 27:43Tad Eggleston: exclusive, so I actually had to go…
- 27:49Tad Eggleston: to a hot topic, in order…
- 27:51belle price: That's shaky.
- 27:52Tad Eggleston: Yay.
- 27:53Tad Eggleston: But,
- 27:55Tad Eggleston: the… the Bad River site, they call it a 2018 Summer Convention exclusive, so maybe, maybe it was also at conventions. They have it…
- 28:07Tad Eggleston: For only 20 bucks.
- 28:09Larry Woods: What? Not bad.
- 28:11Tad Eggleston: Hell yeah.
- 28:12belle price: Hey, Christmas money!
- 28:15Tad Eggleston: Here, I'll show ya.
- 28:19Tad Eggleston: I just pulled it up.
- 28:21belle price: It's gonna be a Goose Funko Pop in a concert. That's Christmas money.
- 28:26Tad Eggleston: There you go.
- 28:29Tad Eggleston: In his pajamas.
- 28:31belle price: Oh my gosh! I…
- 28:35Larry Woods: Even in the box, he said to me.
- 28:37Tad Eggleston: I guess I did, I didn't send you…
- 28:39Tad Eggleston: I showed you, I showed you my, my, my Saga stuffed animals, but I didn't take you downstairs to see my Saga action figures.
- 28:47belle price: I didn't go downstairs at all.
- 28:49Tad Eggleston: Yeah, yeah, cuz, cuz…
- 28:51belle price: Don't worry, I'm gonna… Toggle, I'll be back.
- 28:53Tad Eggleston: Yeah, I have all of the Saga Pops.
- 28:56Tad Eggleston: And I have all of the… there were 3 2-packs of action figures. There was a… a Will and Lion Cat, a Marco, and a Lana, and a…
- 29:07Tad Eggleston: Hazel and Isabelle.
- 29:09belle price: My dad has those.
- 29:10Tad Eggleston: So, I have all of those, too.
- 29:13belle price: But his are not unboxed, and they probably never.
- 29:15Tad Eggleston: What?
- 29:15Tad Eggleston: Mine are totally unboxed. I kept the boxes. The boxes are on the shelf behind them.
- 29:23Tad Eggleston: But they are totally unboxed, because they're toys, and you need to be able to play with them. In fact, I can say…
- 29:32Tad Eggleston: that Marco and Alana have both piloted the Millennium Falcon.
- 29:38belle price: Worthy pilots.
- 29:40Tad Eggleston: This is what I'm saying.
- 29:42Larry Woods: That was not a phrase.
- 29:43belle price: I thought it was…
- 29:44Larry Woods: Right.
- 29:45belle price: This is the first time that's ever been uttered in the history of humanity.
- 29:49Tad Eggleston: No, because I've said it before.
- 29:51Tad Eggleston: See, see, the reason why I love… I mean, I sometimes get figures of different sizes, but the reason I love the 3.75
- 30:00Tad Eggleston: 4-inch series is from… for whatever, is that's the traditional Star Wars size, which means that that's the size that fits in my Millennium Falcon.
- 30:11belle price: Oh my gosh.
- 30:12Tad Eggleston: And that means that I can mix and match.
- 30:15belle price: That's awesome.
- 30:17Tad Eggleston: You know…
- 30:19Larry Woods: Can't argue with that logic.
- 30:21Tad Eggleston: Exactly.
- 30:22belle price: Particularly because, yep.
- 30:24Tad Eggleston: Yeah.
- 30:25Tad Eggleston: Particularly because I have the, the… the… and they're… they're a little on the big side for the Luminium Falcon. I mean, in terms of… in terms of piloting it well…
- 30:36belle price: Hazel's actually the best.
- 30:38Tad Eggleston: She fits perfectly.
- 30:42Tad Eggleston: -
- 30:43Tad Eggleston: But, yeah, no, I love that. That's one of the reasons I had to keep the boxes.
- 30:54Tad Eggleston: But yeah, no, I will occasionally pull out the Millennium Falcon and random figures and set up scenes and just send silly pictures to people.
- 31:03Tad Eggleston: you know, particularly… particularly, like, a certain group of friends that I know will make them smile, that, like, if I know one of them's having a bad day, it's like, okay, here's your Captain America flying the Falcon.
- 31:15Tad Eggleston: Or…
- 31:20Tad Eggleston: That sort of thing, because, you know, I mean…
- 31:26Larry Woods: The whole thing.
- 31:27Tad Eggleston: I gotta have some excuse to have all of this money sunk into toys that I completely tore all of the value away from because I wanted to play with them.
- 31:39belle price: What's… what's the fun in that? It's life.
- 31:41Tad Eggleston: I mean, you can find unopened toys in my house.
- 31:46Tad Eggleston: But that's mostly because a lot of the time, I'll, like, come across, like, a sale, and I'll buy, like, 5, and I'll only open up one right away, and the other 4 will kick around for when, I really want to open a toy today, and, oh, let's go… I'm gonna open this one!
- 32:05Tad Eggleston: just like I have lots of unopened packs of baseball cards in the house, because the joy is partially in opening them. So rather than, like, doing it all at once.
- 32:16Tad Eggleston: You buy the box of packs, you stick it on the shelf, when you need to open a pack.
- 32:22Tad Eggleston: You go open a pack.
- 32:24belle price: That's smart. We need to shit on the Will more, though, because he's in his Fat Thor era, and we really haven't.
- 32:28Tad Eggleston: He is. He is.
- 32:29Matt: Isn't this bad boy off.
- 32:31belle price: It's honestly kind of nice to see.
- 32:32Tad Eggleston: drugged out era.
- 32:34belle price: Yeah, it's literally his Fat Thor era, like, he's hung up on this girl, hung up on this chick.
- 32:39Tad Eggleston: Well, until he switches into… I mean, since it's supposed to be your first love that you see on heroin.
- 32:48Tad Eggleston: Oh, who?
- 32:50Tad Eggleston: How weird is it when it shifts from imagining his… his…
- 32:58Tad Eggleston: His, fling with the stock to talking to his sister.
- 33:07Matt: It's almost like him on heroin
- 33:11Matt: His heroine illusions, or hallucinations, are a better conscience to him than his own conscience would be.
- 33:21Tad Eggleston: Little bit of that, too.
- 33:23Matt: Yeah, yeah.
- 33:30Tad Eggleston: And… and… The one chick who calls you on your bullshit.
- 33:35Tad Eggleston: So, so, here's my question.
- 33:40Tad Eggleston: Who… who's she talking about?
- 33:47Tad Eggleston: I mean, I know who he winds up acting like she's talking about, and it's the more appropriate person for him to act like he's talking about, particularly given the romantic nature of the last few pages.
- 34:03Tad Eggleston: But I think she's actually talking about somebody else that just happens to be in the same place right now.
- 34:12belle price: I'm not following.
- 34:13Tad Eggleston: Well, when…
- 34:16Tad Eggleston: the hallucination of his sister tells him to go off and find the one chick who calls you on your… your bullshit. I think she's telling him to go back to Gwendolyn.
- 34:26Tad Eggleston: Or at least, that's what he winds up doing, but I think she's really talking about little Sophie.
- 34:33Matt: Oh… I think you're right!
- 34:37Matt: I didn't even cons… I didn't even connect that when I read this.
- 34:40Tad Eggleston: Yeah… You know, the one that really calls him on his bullshit…
- 34:51Tad Eggleston: is little Sophie.
- 34:53Tad Eggleston: Because among other things, I hate Gwendolyn as much as I hate the Will.
- 34:59Larry Woods: And they're so rife for each other.
- 35:01Matt: They really are.
- 35:03Tad Eggleston: Lee, you're up to date, right? You came back after the… okay, so you know why I hate Gwendolyn.
- 35:10Larry Woods: Oh, yeah.
- 35:12Tad Eggleston: Oh.
- 35:13belle price: up to date.
- 35:14Matt: Boiler money.
- 35:15Tad Eggleston: I won't. Ugh.
- 35:17belle price: I have… I have not read it. I'll cry.
- 35:19Tad Eggleston: Okay.
- 35:20belle price: I'll cry right now in my house.
- 35:22Tad Eggleston: When we get to Volume 10…
- 35:24Larry Woods: I didn't tell you about what…
- 35:26belle price: We're gonna go through… we're gonna go…
- 35:29Tad Eggleston: We're gonna go through some shit.
- 35:32belle price: I'm not ready! I'm not ready.
- 35:34Tad Eggleston: Gonna be going through some shit in Volume 7, and Volume 9, and a little less in Volume 8 that you already know about, but Volume 10, we're gonna go through some shit. But then…
- 35:47Larry Woods: Hazel becomes a rocker.
- 35:50Larry Woods: Huh.
- 35:51belle price: Don't spoil.
- 35:51Tad Eggleston: We'll spoil that.
- 35:52belle price: No!
- 35:53Matt: I've read that, so that's okay.
- 35:55belle price: I haven't.
- 35:57Larry Woods: So what chapter are you at right now, Bell?
- 36:01belle price: I don't remember. I remember reading a couple
- 36:05belle price: I think I remember… the last thing I remember is Squire…
- 36:09belle price: And that's it. And I'm not gonna say anything else, because my dad, I don't know if he's read it, but that was the last one I read.
- 36:14Tad Eggleston: Well, I mean, if you've gone beyond 54, it was in issue 55 that the thing happened that made me absolutely hate Gwendolyn.
- 36:22Matt: So I don't remember what that was, but I have read it.
- 36:25belle price: Yeah, me too.
- 36:28Tad Eggleston: I mean, we'll wait… we'll wait to get there, because…
- 36:31Tad Eggleston: I don't feel like pulling up the picture right now.
- 36:35Tad Eggleston: But when we get there, we're…
- 36:38Larry Woods: And you know you'll know.
- 36:40Tad Eggleston: Mmm.
- 36:41Larry Woods: Then it becomes… Is that when we start doing the single-issue podcast?
- 36:49belle price: Honestly!
- 36:53Tad Eggleston: I mean, I think we have to at least catch up before we do single issues, though at the pace we're going, we might be catching up about the time that they come back to single issues.
- 37:03Matt: I was tracking that, actually, and I'm like, that's kind of cool.
- 37:07Tad Eggleston: So, we might finish up as a single issue. That's cool.
- 37:11Matt: All the better to invite Fiona and Brian to.
- 37:16belle price: Yes.
- 37:17Tad Eggleston: I gotta, I gotta pull out my typewriter and properly write them a letter.
- 37:23belle price: Yeah.
- 37:24belle price: Can I draw them a picture for you to include?
- 37:27Tad Eggleston: We could all send separate letters inviting them, and see which of us they.
- 37:33belle price: I like that idea. That's a great idea.
- 37:36Matt: And we'll call it the 22 panels… 22 letters! Fiona or Brian to join us contest. We could do 22.
- 37:43Tad Eggleston: 2 candles, 22 letters, and we could each send letters. We'd have to find more people.
- 37:48belle price: It'd be…
- 37:48Tad Eggleston: To do that, we gotta find 22 people to send them.
- 37:51belle price: I turned 22 this year, do you have 22 friends?
- 37:55Matt: 21 times, you count.
- 37:57belle price: I count.
- 37:58Tad Eggleston: Yeah.
- 38:00Tad Eggleston: I mean, technically, how many people are on… on, like, this invite? I mean, we haven't had all of them join us, but this is… this is, I think, second to…
- 38:14Tad Eggleston: second to the Joy, Resistance, Hope, and Survival Book Club.
- 38:18Tad Eggleston: For the most people on the invite.
- 38:22Tad Eggleston: Yeah, there's 16 people on this invite.
- 38:25Larry Woods: And admittedly, one of them is just the 22 panels address.
- 38:30Tad Eggleston: But that means 15 other people.
- 38:34Tad Eggleston: on this invite.
- 38:35belle price: Alright, 7 more.
- 38:38belle price: distance.
- 38:39Larry Woods: So that's an interesting question then, right? Not just the letters, because I'll share this. I don't get starstruck that easy.
- 38:48Larry Woods: But… And Ted can attest to this, one of the few times I've ever been starstruck
- 38:54Larry Woods: And I can count it, 2 people.
- 38:56Larry Woods: It was Joe Kelly on his podcast, And Garth Ennis.
- 39:02Larry Woods: Who I met.
- 39:03Tad Eggleston: I got to meet Garth Ennis.
- 39:04Larry Woods: I got to meet Garth Ennis at a local con, I think it was, like, Fan Expo, and he was just the nicest, most chill guy, and I blabbered like an idiot. I just… I could not… he's like, what do you like to read? I'm like, all your stuff. He's like, well, I have books here, like.
- 39:20Larry Woods: Yeah, what do you recommend?
- 39:21Tad Eggleston: That one? That one? That one.
- 39:23Matt: Yeah.
- 39:23Tad Eggleston: Oh, I haven't read that one, let me buy it.
- 39:26Larry Woods: Well… But…
- 39:28Tad Eggleston: Yeah, no, I tend to be that way too, but I've had a couple… I… the first time I talked to Klaus Jansen, I really kinda…
- 39:38Tad Eggleston: got really… tongue-tied. Enough so… enough so that the second time I talked to him, I literally had… had…
- 39:48Tad Eggleston: A mutual friend of ours make… make the reintroduction.
- 39:55Tad Eggleston: I still haven't managed to get him on the show, so I don't know if I've managed to be untongue-tied enough.
- 40:05belle price: Would you be starstruck by Brian and Fiona, though? I would.
- 40:08Larry Woods: Oh, 100%, which is why I bring it up. So, like.
- 40:12Tad Eggleston: Maybe.
- 40:13Larry Woods: I 100% would. I would. For sure.
- 40:16belle price: Jeff Smith, too, same thing for me, personally.
- 40:18Tad Eggleston: Well, see, see, that's the reason why I'm not certain that I would be, because I really, really expected to be starstruck by Jeff Smith.
- 40:28Tad Eggleston: And…
- 40:30Tad Eggleston: it turned out that, like, between knowing his work so well, and the type of guy he is, which Brian and Fiona both seem to be that laid back to…
- 40:42Tad Eggleston: We fell into an easy rhythm immediately.
- 40:47Matt: That's awesome.
- 40:49Tad Eggleston: You know… .
- 40:51belle price: That's so cool.
- 40:52Tad Eggleston: That's part of the reason that I'm not as worried about it, like, it's become one of my questions. I ask people for their surreal comic experiences, because I have so many of them, headed by the fact that, like.
- 41:07Tad Eggleston: There are a number of people that I would have expected to be so starstruck around that I was never able to develop any sort of rapport with them.
- 41:17Tad Eggleston: that are, like… Friends.
- 41:22Tad Eggleston: Not just people I've talked to, but, like… people I text with.
- 41:28belle price: That's so cool.
- 41:28Tad Eggleston: Y-you know? So… I, I, I, I…
- 41:35Tad Eggleston: And what's awesome is, like, none of the shine has come off.
- 41:39Tad Eggleston: Like, I still adore them creatively as well.
- 41:43Tad Eggleston: I mean, you saw me with Marcus last night.
- 41:47Tad Eggleston: Lee, you know, I mean, I have nothing but…
- 41:51Tad Eggleston: the highest respect for Marcus as an artist. You know, if anything, I like him more as an artist now than I did when I met him, and I had high… high opinion of him then.
- 42:07Tad Eggleston: But he's also one of my best friends.
- 42:11Tad Eggleston: Like, legit, just one of my best friends.
- 42:16Tad Eggleston: So, yeah.
- 42:19Tad Eggleston: I'm not saying that we'd pull that off with Mark, er, with Brian and Fiona, and, like, if you're listening, Brian and Fiona, I'm not trying to say, hey, we need to sucker you into becoming our best friends, we'd be happy just to talk to you. We're not stalker crazy types.
- 42:34Larry Woods: Speak for yourself.
- 42:35belle price: Yet.
- 42:36Tad Eggleston: Says the psychologist.
- 42:39Matt: No, I…
- 42:41Larry Woods: So here's the… wait, actually, before I even ask my question, do we know for sure that BKV, Brian, and Fiona, like, listen? Do we know that?
- 42:51Tad Eggleston: Oh, God, no.
- 42:52Larry Woods: Oh, okay.
- 42:53Tad Eggleston: That's me messing around. That's me messing around.
- 42:56Larry Woods: Yeah, secondhand starstruck there.
- 43:00Tad Eggleston: I mean, there is always the possibility, particularly if we have a letter-writing campaign, that they could decide to go back and listen before, or at least pick, like, an episode.
- 43:12Tad Eggleston: You know, it wouldn't be the first time that one of the guests had decided to listen to an episode before coming on, and a handful of my guests have become
- 43:21Tad Eggleston: semi-regular listeners.
- 43:24Larry Woods: Yeah.
- 43:25Tad Eggleston: But… but no, I don't know… I've had no contact with BKV or FE… well, no, that's not true. I have had brief, brief contact with BKV, because he had some…
- 43:41Tad Eggleston: hardcovers… Of spectators available for people on his… Substack.
- 43:50Tad Eggleston: And he said, like, best comment, you know.
- 43:53Tad Eggleston: And I shout out to him, you know, don't necessarily consider me for a hardcover, because I already ordered mine from my LCS, so I've got one coming. But, I gotta tell you, you know, you've got…
- 44:08Tad Eggleston: you know, the dearly departed hamburger, and now milkshake, and my dog's potato. And he, he loved that my dog was potato.
- 44:18Tad Eggleston: So there… there are… there are two comic creators that love that my dog is Pictato. The other's Chip Zdarsky, but my… my dog's full name is Barbecue Baked Potato Chip Zdarsky. So, like.
- 44:33Matt: data for short. Yep.
- 44:35Larry Woods: Right. So, here's the.
- 44:36Matt: Remember when the vet calls, do they say there's an appointment for?
- 44:39Larry Woods: Potato.
- 44:40Matt: Potato?
- 44:41belle price: I'm busy now.
- 44:42Larry Woods: So, here's the question I have for the group, then, is…
- 44:46Larry Woods: if we just imagine for a moment that we are able to get Brian and Fiona on the podcast.
- 44:54Larry Woods: Is there a specific question that you would like to ask them?
- 44:58Larry Woods: Like, what would be the question that you would want to ask them?
- 45:00Tad Eggleston: Oh, I know the first question I'd have to ask.
- 45:03Tad Eggleston: I would tell Fiona, what I imagine about how the hiatus come about…
- 45:10Tad Eggleston: Has always been that you drew issues
- 45:14Tad Eggleston: Right, I'd even preface it, like, in the back matter of the first book, when you talk about how an issue of saga comes about…
- 45:23Tad Eggleston: you know, it was revealed that Brian kind of knows the whole story, and you prefer to go issue by issue.
- 45:30Tad Eggleston: So the first time you're reading it is when you're prepping to draw it.
- 45:34Tad Eggleston: And given… the… content of issues 52, 53, and 54, where Brian kicked us in the stomach
- 45:48Tad Eggleston: knocked us down, and then smashed our heads in. I have always imagined that the way that the hiatus came about was you finished
- 46:01Tad Eggleston: drawing issue 54, sent it off to Brian, picked up the phone and called him and just said, fuck you, fuck you, fuck you, fuck you, I'm taking a break, and hung up on him.
- 46:14Matt: That sounds about right.
- 46:15Tad Eggleston: So, so, my question is, how far off of the truth am I?
- 46:24Larry Woods: That'd be a good one to have answered.
- 46:28belle price: I don't know, I think… Oh god, I'd have to ask about…
- 46:34belle price: where the inspirations came for specifically Marco, Alana, and Hazel. Like, what… like, who… like, as, like, a person, or, like, who in the real world, like, what characters inspired these characters, or what, like, people in your life inspired these characters?
- 46:50belle price: I don't know. That's kind of an interesting thing I'd like to know.
- 46:59Tad Eggleston: Matt's gonna ask about balls.
- 47:02Tad Eggleston: I can tell.
- 47:02Matt: Yeah. Giant scrotum sacks, yeah.
- 47:05Tad Eggleston: So, Fiona!
- 47:08Larry Woods: Thank you.
- 47:08Matt: Dude, like.
- 47:09belle price: Talk about FARD.
- 47:13Larry Woods: So, I think for me, it…
- 47:17Larry Woods: I think it's gonna be a little bit of both, probably more so towards Brian than Fiona, but still relevant to her, is…
- 47:27Larry Woods: Like…
- 47:30Larry Woods: for me, personally, whenever I dislike a character so much, I'm most drawn toward them, excuse me. So, like, obviously I love Hazel, I love Goose, I love Isabelle, like, by far some of my favorite characters. And we clearly know how I stand on the will, I guess.
- 47:51Larry Woods: Let's shoot on.
- 47:52Matt: him some more.
- 47:54Larry Woods: But… That, to me, also just screams to, like, the…
- 47:59Larry Woods: The portrayal of him, the writing of him.
- 48:02Larry Woods: So, like, to me is… I would want to know… What is it that…
- 48:08Larry Woods: Obviously, I'm gonna feel the way I feel about them, and I'm gonna perceive them the way I perceive them, but I wanna know, what is it that they're trying to portray
- 48:16Larry Woods: How are they trying to portray him to me?
- 48:19Larry Woods: Right. Because I want to ask, too, like, am I off? Should I like this guy? Like, and then…
- 48:26Larry Woods: I wanna know that.
- 48:28Larry Woods: It's like, what is it about these characters I don't like?
- 48:31Tad Eggleston: I do think there's that brief period where you're supposed to like him after he saves little Sophie.
- 48:38Tad Eggleston: And there's that brief period where you're supposed to like him while he's a tortured hostage
- 48:48Tad Eggleston: For the guy he killed while saving Sophie.
- 49:00Tad Eggleston: Which, frankly.
- 49:04Tad Eggleston: those are the two parts of the book that I am angriest to Brian about. I am more angry about
- 49:12Tad Eggleston: being tricked into briefly rethinking my feelings on the will. Not once, but twice.
- 49:22Matt: Valid.
- 49:25Tad Eggleston: than I am about what the will did that made me hate him forever.
- 49:29Larry Woods: Yeah.
- 49:30Tad Eggleston: Because I was always expecting him
- 49:35Tad Eggleston: To either do that or die trying.
- 49:38Tad Eggleston: It was in no way out of character. Except…
- 49:42Tad Eggleston: Twice! You really teased the idea!
- 49:46Tad Eggleston: That maybe he was gonna have some kind of personal growth.
- 49:52Matt: Redeemable quality.
- 49:57Larry Woods: And that's, like, for me, I think you even said this before, Tad, to sort of circle back to something you said on a previous episode, is that…
- 50:06Larry Woods: Brian Kvon does an excellent job of just coming out of nowhere and kicking you in the butt.
- 50:11Larry Woods: Fucking stomach on this, man. He takes the wind off.
- 50:13Tad Eggleston: false.
- 50:14Tad Eggleston: Makes you in the ball.
- 50:15Larry Woods: fault.
- 50:16Larry Woods: The balls, the metaphorical balls.
- 50:18Tad Eggleston: Or wherever it hurts.
- 50:19Larry Woods: most for Bell.
- 50:20belle price: figurative balls.
- 50:22Larry Woods: Figurative, literal.
- 50:24Tad Eggleston: There we go.
- 50:26Larry Woods: Don't hurt.
- 50:27belle price: But, again, it's like…
- 50:30Larry Woods: he does it so well with the will, because I have felt bad for him, and I don't want to focus too much on him, because…
- 50:37Larry Woods: at this point, I don't want to seem like I'm trashing the world, because I think he is such a fascinating character.
- 50:43Larry Woods: But I want to know, is that what Brian's trying to do to me? Right? Is he trying to get me to feel something for this guy in order just to fucking punch me in the gut? Again?
- 50:54Larry Woods: Right?
- 50:55Larry Woods: And I'm gonna do it, I'm gonna read it, and I'm gonna feel the things. And I'm gonna be mad, but I'm gonna keep reading. So, like, for me, that's a part of…
- 51:04Larry Woods: At least for me.
- 51:07Larry Woods: what is it that… what's his plan? Like, what does… what role does the will play
- 51:13Larry Woods: in the story, the saga that I'm reading.
- 51:17Tad Eggleston: I mean, you know he can't answer that entirely until we get Oh, yeah.
- 51:22Larry Woods: Oh, oh, for sure.
- 51:24Tad Eggleston: I'm not even that chewing.
- 51:25belle price: Letters, though, toward the end, and see if they can come on…
- 51:29Tad Eggleston: He'll be like, ask me again in 3 years.
- 51:33Larry Woods: Like, come on, man. Yep.
- 51:37Larry Woods: But yeah, that would… that would probably be my question, for sure.
- 51:49Tad Eggleston: This has… this volume also has one of my…
- 51:53Tad Eggleston: One of, if not my favorite cover.
- 51:57Tad Eggleston: I love, love… love.
- 52:01Tad Eggleston: Have the t-shirt of… Chapter 34.
- 52:07Tad Eggleston: goose fishing off of Frendo.
- 52:12belle price: t-shirt.
- 52:16Larry Woods: I love goose so much.
- 52:18Tad Eggleston: this one.
- 52:19Tad Eggleston: It's just so beautiful.
- 52:23Larry Woods: Yep.
- 52:25Larry Woods: It's… serenity. It just feels like so much… So peaceful.
- 52:32Matt: Do you have a shirt like that, Chad?
- 52:34Tad Eggleston: I have 2 of them.
- 52:35Matt: Because I had…
- 52:36Tad Eggleston: I had Kelly make me one, where she did an iron-on on on a tie-dye, but then they made it available through their threadless shop, and I bought one.
- 52:47belle price: fire.
- 52:47Tad Eggleston: So that's the other thing that you should consider, Bell, and I know Lee… I told Lee I'd show him this, because he wound up
- 52:58Tad Eggleston: finding a couple at the store, and I'm like, dude, there are more and better ones.
- 53:04Larry Woods: Yep.
- 53:04Tad Eggleston: The… the… have you, have you gone to the Saga Threadless shop?
- 53:08belle price: No.
- 53:09Larry Woods: No, I haven't. I forgot about it.
- 53:11Tad Eggleston: Okay, let's share that screen really quick.
- 53:15Tad Eggleston: And for that matter, at least during the last run, they would, like…
- 53:19Tad Eggleston: Have one-month runs of every cover.
- 53:23Tad Eggleston: I didn't actually do any of them, but… but, I mean, so… so we've got our lion cat.
- 53:28Larry Woods: Hell yeah.
- 53:28Tad Eggleston: I love the Mistook. That's the… that's the band that, the… the… the girl…
- 53:37Tad Eggleston: The dance instructor had on her shirt.
- 53:40Tad Eggleston: You got the goose…
- 53:42Tad Eggleston: You got the goose on the island, you got the cover one. I actually love this one.
- 53:47Tad Eggleston: Landfall underneath.
- 53:49Tad Eggleston: On the Saga shirt.
- 53:51belle price: That's a cool shirt.
- 53:53Tad Eggleston: Yeah, I think this is, what, issue 8, with the bubblegum?
- 53:57belle price: These are all cool shares, they're like full prints of art. Okay, I have that Lion, Cat, and Will cover. I have that book on my wall.
- 54:03Tad Eggleston: Yeah.
- 54:05Tad Eggleston: I still need to get this one, 39.
- 54:07Tad Eggleston: She's in the next volume.
- 54:09Tad Eggleston: But with Petrichor.
- 54:11Tad Eggleston: I love the, the, the Isabel Hirosa shirt.
- 54:15Tad Eggleston: I have one, too. I actually have two of those, because I've got the black…
- 54:19Tad Eggleston: Yeah, I've got both the red one and the black one.
- 54:23Tad Eggleston: For that. So… Yeah.
- 54:27belle price: I think I need an Isabel Pyrosa shirt today.
- 54:30Larry Woods: Yeah, yeah, for sure. I was thinking the same thing.
- 54:34Tad Eggleston: Well, $22.95… For the fitted…
- 54:40Tad Eggleston: They actually regularly have sales, so if you decide to wait, you know, there's a good chance that you'll be able to get it for, like.
- 54:47Tad Eggleston: 12 or 14…
- 54:50Larry Woods: They look like the hoodies.
- 54:53belle price: Can I just say, though, real quick, before we… I don't know how long we have, but…
- 54:56belle price: I want to quickly mention back to Saga, because there's a lot of the, I did my iOS on my iPhone with Saga a long, long time ago. I still think I need to send it to you guys, but…
- 55:06belle price: my home screen, the page I look at the most, is dedicated to Alana, Hazel, and Marco, and, like, their family unit. And the… this full-page spread where Marco and,
- 55:18belle price: Hazel reunite, and she's just going, Daddy, Daddy, Daddy! And it says, she loved being home. That's, like, on my home screen, and I love that. I love that spread so much, even, like, I look at it every day. It's on my phone every day. I, like, wake up, I look at it.
- 55:32Tad Eggleston: Okay, I did not realize that there are… this is the version of the mistook shirt I have, the multicolor one.
- 55:40belle price: Coming across it.
- 55:42Tad Eggleston: But I did not realize that there are, there are, are, are baby sizes.
- 55:47Matt: Whaaat?
- 55:48Tad Eggleston: Baby and toddler sizes. I might… I don't have any babies in my life at the moment, but I do have…
- 55:55belle price: Do you have toddlers.
- 55:57Tad Eggleston: And, well, I guess they're not really toddlers. I have a 4- and a 6-year-old, they might need…
- 56:03Tad Eggleston: They might need Goose t-shirts at some point, or Pyrosis logo t-shirts.
- 56:12Larry Woods: Yeah, that's gonna happen.
- 56:13Tad Eggleston: Even if they don't know what they are yet.
- 56:18Tad Eggleston: I mean, they've been playing with my stuffed goose since…
- 56:22Tad Eggleston: They were young, and sometimes with a lion cap, but they liked the goose better.
- 56:27Larry Woods: Yeah.
- 56:31Tad Eggleston: So, they haven't done a lot of Saga merchandise, but what Saga merchandise they've done…
- 56:36Larry Woods: Top notch.
- 56:38Tad Eggleston: Top notch, yeah. Yeah.
- 56:46Tad Eggleston: Do we have any other… I mean, I feel like we've managed to talk for, like, an hour without saying a lot other than.
- 56:54Tad Eggleston: Happy, cool.
- 56:56Tad Eggleston: Now with Saga, we don't get to say happy very often, so that's probably one of the reasons that…
- 57:04Tad Eggleston: That we've been like that for this episode, but is there anything in particular that people want to jump to?
- 57:13Tad Eggleston: I didn't see any tiles that would have caught Bell's attention this issue. I was looking for them.
- 57:19belle price: I already…
- 57:20Tad Eggleston: fruit.
- 57:20belle price: in my full-page spread that I was gonna talk about while you were doing…
- 57:24Tad Eggleston: Which one?
- 57:25belle price: So, the one where she's hugging Marco, and…
- 57:28Tad Eggleston: Whoa.
- 57:28belle price: Reunite. I already gave my last spiel.
- 57:31Tad Eggleston: The, the daddy, daddy, daddy.
- 57:33belle price: Yeah, it's just, it's adorable! I mean, like, she's so bad. She literally has not seen him in, like, years. Wow.
- 57:39Tad Eggleston: I…
- 57:40belle price: And it's like, yeah.
- 57:41Tad Eggleston: And for that matter, I mean, I love it from the dad's standpoint, because it's like, initially, he's like, he's been so…
- 57:49Tad Eggleston: Set on this for so long that he's got the doll, and he's like.
- 57:53Tad Eggleston: So, I've been carrying this around for you, and now I feel really dumb, because you look so different that I'm…
- 58:02Matt: How do you realize this?
- 58:03Tad Eggleston: You may or may not even remember this anymore.
- 58:08Tad Eggleston: Do you know who I… DADDY!
- 58:16Tad Eggleston: My only thought, is speaking of, like, looks.
- 58:21Larry Woods: Just Marco with a beard, man.
- 58:24belle price: Yeah!
- 58:25Matt: Here's gotta go.
- 58:27Larry Woods: Didn't know I needed that. I was like, alright, bro, I see you.
- 58:31belle price: And then a lot of Gotta go.
- 58:34Tad Eggleston: as soon as they break their unspoken vow. Right. I love… I love how… I love how Isabelle, or, Hazel, talks about that, too. She's… she's like…
- 58:45Matt: My parents always did suck at vows.
- 58:48belle price: I'm really good at vows. It's like, aww.
- 58:51Larry Woods: Yeah.
- 58:53belle price: I like that they alluded when they were, like, as Marco and Alana were, like, trying to save Hazel together, like, it was kind of like a montage of them saving Hazel, right? You could tell it was a montage, but I like how they alluded to even more adventures that we didn't get to see when Prince William, and they're like, yeah, we borrowed this helmet, and it's like…
- 59:13Tad Eggleston: Robin?
- 59:13belle price: banks out on? Like, not seeing them do through this montage of, like, we're gonna rescue our daughter.
- 59:21Tad Eggleston: Right.
- 59:22Tad Eggleston: Well, and, I mean, you know that it's been years.
- 59:25belle price: And I love when they leave things for us to speculate on like that.
- 59:28Tad Eggleston: Yeah.
- 59:30Tad Eggleston: I mean, essentially, they pass through years in a handful of pages.
- 59:37Tad Eggleston: You know…
- 59:38belle price: It's so cool.
- 59:41Tad Eggleston: I also love getting Upshur and Doff back.
- 59:45belle price: Oh.
- 59:46Tad Eggleston: And this is when I started hating the will again.
- 59:48belle price: When, when, when, when he…
- 59:51Tad Eggleston: When he fucked with Upshur.
- 59:54Tad Eggleston: Er, I'm sorry, DOF. He fucked with Dolph.
- 59:59Tad Eggleston: Who has the coolest camera, because it has an eye. Though, did you notice that they also have a video camera with an eye?
- 1:00:09Tad Eggleston: on the…
- 1:00:11Larry Woods: Missed that one.
- 1:00:13Tad Eggleston: It's… it's like it… other than the fact that it actually has an eye for the lens, it looks like one of the old, big-ass VHS…
- 1:00:25Tad Eggleston: camcorders.
- 1:00:27Larry Woods: Hmm.
- 1:00:32Larry Woods: Damn.
- 1:00:32Tad Eggleston: They, they have on this ship.
- 1:00:35Tad Eggleston: Where was it that Alana was… Was messing with it…
- 1:00:42Tad Eggleston: And I don't even know why she was messing it, it was just, like, there.
- 1:00:51Tad Eggleston: Right before… Here I am flipping through pages… oh, there we go, yeah.
- 1:00:58Tad Eggleston: Yeah. Oh, no, it was they… they were getting ready to… to get him to…
- 1:01:05Tad Eggleston: it was when they were talking to Prince Robot about impersonating,
- 1:01:14Tad Eggleston: lower…
- 1:01:22Tad Eggleston: Count robot, 60.
- 1:01:29Tad Eggleston: And him getting all upset that…
- 1:01:32Tad Eggleston: Who would think that I was only a count? You think all robots look alike.
- 1:01:38belle price: You racist. Well, then he also gets upset when Goose keeps calling him Prince, too. He's like, I'm not Prince anymore. Like, it just… that's how the robot kingdom works, you kind of figure out, is like, it's this hierarchy, like, you know, it's like…
- 1:01:50belle price: Almost like a caste system they've got going.
- 1:01:53Tad Eggleston: Hmm. Here's… here's the other thing I like. Did you notice that… the… the, the, the, like…
- 1:02:05Tad Eggleston: shield person on landfall was sitting at her desk.
- 1:02:11Tad Eggleston: Coloring.
- 1:02:12Matt: ring.
- 1:02:14Larry Woods: No!
- 1:02:18Tad Eggleston: Look at that.
- 1:02:19Tad Eggleston: It's just got a coloring page.
- 1:02:24Tad Eggleston: Yep.
- 1:02:24Matt: I saw that.
- 1:02:27Tad Eggleston: You can park anywhere but the red lane, over and out.
- 1:02:31Tad Eggleston: Fucking disgraceful.
- 1:02:35Larry Woods: Do what you gotta do, man.
- 1:02:40Tad Eggleston: She doesn't even look down.
- 1:02:42Larry Woods: Nope.
- 1:02:50Tad Eggleston: Just coloring away.
- 1:02:53Tad Eggleston: Oh, oh, Matt, did you catch… and you have the physical copy, so flip it over.
- 1:03:01Tad Eggleston: And look at the poll quotes on the back.
- 1:03:08Matt: Which one do you want? Alan Moore's?
- 1:03:10Tad Eggleston: Well, just look at… The top two pole coats and who they are.
- 1:03:15Tad Eggleston: Alan Moore and Lin-Manuel Miranda as your top two pull quotes.
- 1:03:21Tad Eggleston: And then Cosmopolitan, because this is the comic that gets featured in Cosmo.
- 1:03:33belle price: Every twi- What?
- 1:03:34belle price: Every 12?
- 1:03:35Tad Eggleston: What?
- 1:03:35belle price: Should read it. I agree with this.
- 1:03:37Larry Woods: Right, but, but, like.
- 1:03:40Tad Eggleston: What?
- 1:03:40Tad Eggleston: What anything gets a poll quote from Alan Moore, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and Cosmo?
- 1:03:49Matt: I'm gonna say Saga.
- 1:03:51belle price: Yeah.
- 1:03:54Tad Eggleston: I think it's a Venn diagram where Saga is the only.
- 1:03:58belle price: Well, the answer…
- 1:04:00Matt: That's hilarious.
- 1:04:01belle price: Oh, that's so good!
- 1:04:04Tad Eggleston: I mean, I imagine the crossover between Alan Moore and Cosmo is pretty small… You'd think? In and of itself. Probably slightly larger crossovers between Alan Moore and Lin-Manuel Miranda, or Lin-Mano Miranda and Cosmo.
- 1:04:21Matt: smell right.
- 1:04:22Tad Eggleston: But… but still, like, 3 tiny slivers…
- 1:04:28Tad Eggleston: Of things that even… even two of these three people would like. But you gotta believe that, like.
- 1:04:36Tad Eggleston: And I guess Cosmo's not even people, it's a whole entity, and I still think that you gotta believe that this is, like, the only thing.
- 1:04:46Tad Eggleston: they could get praise in all 3 of those places. Maybe, like… This and mashed potatoes.
- 1:04:56Tad Eggleston: I say because I love mashed potatoes. I mean, it's entirely possible that one of the three might not.
- 1:05:03Tad Eggleston: You know what's bad?
- 1:05:04belle price: one of your podcast… podcast goers right now doesn't like mashed potatoes. I've skipped them at Thanksgiving for the last, like.
- 1:05:09Tad Eggleston: Which just makes you terrible. Just makes you terrible.
- 1:05:13Tad Eggleston: But what I meant… what I really meant as I used the mashed potatoes example is the only thing that I think it's even remotely possible
- 1:05:23Tad Eggleston: That editorial at Cosmo, Lin Manuel Miranda, and Alan Moore might all have in common other than liking this, is liking a particular food, just because there are enough foods that don't…
- 1:05:38Tad Eggleston: Fall into a particular… Click.
- 1:05:45Tad Eggleston: I mean, you've got, like, the wizard Click, the theater boy clique, and the Mean Girl clique.
- 1:05:52Tad Eggleston: represented here.
- 1:05:55Tad Eggleston: And not like the Harry Potter Fun Wizard clique.
- 1:06:00Larry Woods: No.
- 1:06:02belle price: is your click?
- 1:06:03Tad Eggleston: This is… this is the Gandalf Kick Your Ass Wizard Click.
- 1:06:07belle price: Nope.
- 1:06:09belle price: Nope.
- 1:06:14belle price: It's such a unique book. I seriously, like, none of my friends have read it yet, and I'm on them to read it all the time. The first one to read it, I'm gonna, like…
- 1:06:22Matt: I don't know, Val, it sounds like you gotta get better friends.
- 1:06:26Tad Eggleston: I… I mean, I have sold a few hundred copies of Saga Volume 1, but I've also probably given away 20 of them.
- 1:06:36Tad Eggleston: And… and actually, this is something that I've been meaning to talk to, Lee, you need to get the…
- 1:06:41Tad Eggleston: They… they are reprinting Saga…
- 1:06:44Tad Eggleston: in the Digest size editions. We need to get those into the store, because they're 10 bucks a piece, which, admittedly, Volume… Volume 1 is already 10 bucks.
- 1:06:55Larry Woods: But…
- 1:06:57Tad Eggleston: The digest size…
- 1:07:01Tad Eggleston: is easier to sell to the manga crowd, it's a little bit easier to sell to the non-comic crowd, period. You can always get them to go for the… the hardcover once you… once they love it, and you're like, well, you want to see the art big?
- 1:07:13Larry Woods: Come look at this.
- 1:07:15Tad Eggleston: But, but, yeah, we should carry the digest sizes, and for that matter, I keep meaning to buy it again.
- 1:07:25Tad Eggleston: Just to have the pocket-sized editions.
- 1:07:29Tad Eggleston: Because I… I haven't given Fiona and Brian enough of my money yet, apparently.
- 1:07:40Larry Woods: Sounds good. Yeah, I'll definitely… sorry, looking at… looking it up right now.
- 1:07:44Tad Eggleston: Right now!
- 1:07:46Larry Woods: Funny, I didn't.
- 1:07:47Matt: the same thing.
- 1:07:48belle price: I'm laying on the couch.
- 1:07:50Tad Eggleston: So, Belle, that's one of the things you can do, is Volume 1 in either digest size or regular size is only 10 bucks a piece. You can just start making it everybody's birthday present until they start reading it.
- 1:08:02belle price: Oh, you're so wise for that, actually.
- 1:08:05Tad Eggleston: That's part of what I did.
- 1:08:07belle price: wisdom. That's straight up wisdom. Tad just laid some serious wisdom on me right there. Give people saga for their birthday. Yum.
- 1:08:13Matt: Paperback on Amazon is $7.20.
- 1:08:15belle price: That's wisdom.
- 1:08:17Tad Eggleston: Right, right. But, but, but yes, even if she's supporting her local comic shop, though…
- 1:08:23belle price: I don't have one!
- 1:08:24Tad Eggleston: 10 bucks.
- 1:08:24belle price: Know this!
- 1:08:25Tad Eggleston: Oh, that's right.
- 1:08:28Tad Eggleston: Yeah, I forgot, I forgot to look… look for you. How… how close is the… The closest comic shop.
- 1:08:35belle price: Let's just bump comic shop to bumfuck Nowhere. That's what you're googling right now.
- 1:08:40Matt: Kinda.
- 1:08:41Tad Eggleston: How do you spell that?
- 1:08:42Larry Woods: B-U-M…
- 1:08:45belle price: Right?
- 1:08:47belle price: Ugh, how do you spell that?
- 1:08:51Tad Eggleston: Okay, so… Oh!
- 1:08:54belle price: Kimberger, buffalo, or something.
- 1:08:58Matt: Of Jamestown.
- 1:08:58Tad Eggleston: Do you know… do you know the heart of the game?
- 1:09:01belle price: Oh yeah, it's a D&D store in town. They don't sell comic books, though, they just sell, like, D&D stuff, Boy Scout stuff.
- 1:09:06Tad Eggleston: So it's… okay.
- 1:09:07belle price: consoles.
- 1:09:10belle price: I've been there.
- 1:09:13Tad Eggleston: How about… Chautauqua Comics?
- 1:09:19Tad Eggleston: If it's not… In Jamestown?
- 1:09:20belle price: Yeah, I've never been to… no, my friend lives in Jamestown now, though I might go visit soon, so I could take her to a comic shop.
- 1:09:26Tad Eggleston: Gutter Pop Comics.
- 1:09:29Tad Eggleston: On Hurdle Avenue?
- 1:09:31belle price: In what town?
- 1:09:33Tad Eggleston: That's what I'm trying to figure out.
- 1:09:35Tad Eggleston: Because, Buffalo.
- 1:09:37belle price: Yup.
- 1:09:38belle price: There you go, we got one in Jamestown, 45 minutes south, one in Buffalo, 50 minutes north. So, those are…
- 1:09:43Matt: several in buffaloes.
- 1:09:44Tad Eggleston: Yeah, there are a bunch of good ones in Buffalo.
- 1:09:47Matt: Yeah.
- 1:09:47belle price: difficult.
- 1:09:49belle price: for comics.
- 1:09:51Tad Eggleston: Depew?
- 1:09:53Matt: Lockport to Peel, yep.
- 1:09:57belle price: Yeah, it's just sad. Fredonia lost, like, GameStop was the closest we had to a comic book stop.
- 1:10:02Tad Eggleston: Niagara Falls.
- 1:10:02Matt: It was a comic shop.
- 1:10:04belle price: Huh?
- 1:10:05Tad Eggleston: Oh, wait a minute, I didn't realize… oh, oh, see, see.
- 1:10:08Tad Eggleston: now I'm gonna… I'm gonna… see, I hadn't bothered to map Fredonia yet, and now… now that I'm… I'm kind of figuring out where it is.
- 1:10:18Tad Eggleston: They're… I mean, first of all, do you have a passport?
- 1:10:21belle price: You want me to go to Canada? I got a signed Jeff Lemire book from Canada when I went to school.
- 1:10:26Tad Eggleston: That's my point.
- 1:10:27belle price: I literally pulled it off the shelf, and it was autographed, and I was like, it was like $13.
- 1:10:33Tad Eggleston: This is my point, there are a lot of good comic shops in Toronto.
- 1:10:38belle price: Yeah, I've been. That was one of my only things I wanted to do when I saw System of a Down there, dude. I was like, Mia, we're going to a comic shop. And she's like, cool, I want to try on vintage clothes. So, like, she went and let me pick out a book, and I let her try on skirts.
- 1:10:51belle price: It was cute.
- 1:10:56Tad Eggleston: But I gotta find out how far you are from the kazoo Factory.
- 1:11:03belle price: This is the first I'm hearing of a kazoo factory.
- 1:11:06Matt: Yeah, where's the kazoo Factory?
- 1:11:07Tad Eggleston: Eden.
- 1:11:09belle price: Eden Angola?
- 1:11:11Tad Eggleston: You eat in New York, so you're 33 minutes away from the Kazoo Factory.
- 1:11:15belle price: I got kazoos for days, but no local comic shop.
- 1:11:19belle price: What's up in sight.
- 1:11:20Matt: I mean, there's a whole factory producing kazoos.
- 1:11:23belle price: But nobody will sell me Saga within 20 minutes of my own home!
- 1:11:27Tad Eggleston: Well, I mean, it's 30 minutes to get to the…
- 1:11:32Tad Eggleston: Well, actually, there is a store… oh, no, that's an antique store. So if they have comics, it's…
- 1:11:40Larry Woods: Actually, there might be some comics there. Yeah, I don't know.
- 1:11:42belle price: Yeah, there's lots of old stuff out here, and honestly, enough garage sales with people selling comic books or comic-adjacent things that it, like… I can get behind it a little, but there's no one that sells me Saga, so it's like…
- 1:11:55Tad Eggleston: Ba-buh-buh…
- 1:11:58belle price: It's just… it's tough, it's tough out here. Hopefully Chicago will have more comic book stores! Oh, definitely, definitely.
- 1:12:03Tad Eggleston: So, is UC looking even more likely at this point?
- 1:12:08belle price: Listen, I'm not gonna say anything in either direction or the other. I had a good interaction with the professor I want to be with when I was seeing him in GSA, and, like, he gave my poster, and I had a good interaction with his student when I saw her on the phone, and…
- 1:12:22belle price: I think I have a good shot, but I also think there's probably other students that are like me that also have a good shot, so I think it's 50-50. Like, I could or I couldn't. I can't be upset either way. It is my top school, and it is something I worked really hard to get, like, my application in for, but at the end of the day.
- 1:12:39belle price: You know, life's gonna be what life is.
- 1:12:41Larry Woods: Yeah.
- 1:12:42belle price: Grad school's like that, man. It's like, it's gonna make or break wherever I go for my future, and it's like, I can't actually put that much weight on it, or it'll make me go insane.
- 1:12:53Tad Eggleston: Fair.
- 1:12:54Tad Eggleston: Alright, closing thoughts, cause… cause we should wrap.
- 1:12:59Larry Woods: Let's get on those letters. 22 letters. I think that's great.
- 1:13:03Tad Eggleston: Anybody, anybody who sends a letter requesting Brian and Fiona to come on 22 Panels, actually.
- 1:13:12Tad Eggleston: Let's, let's go, let's go all in here.
- 1:13:17Larry Woods: I know, I… cause…
- 1:13:20Tad Eggleston: I buy Saga every way, so I can, I can quickly…
- 1:13:24Tad Eggleston: quickly, pull up a digital single issue, too, so that I can, I can put out the address here.
- 1:13:34Tad Eggleston: For our letter-writing campaign. Hi, Mom, hi Adam, hi Britt.
- 1:13:40Tad Eggleston: If, hi, John.
- 1:13:44Tad Eggleston: Is there anybody else who's likely listening?
- 1:13:47Tad Eggleston: I can't think of anybody else at the moment. There are a handful of people, I'm certain. Probably Marisol, when she remembers that she didn't show up.
- 1:13:56Tad Eggleston: But, so… let's see… Saga…
- 1:14:06Tad Eggleston: And I… again, like, I decided a long time ago that when I wrote my saga letter, I had to…
- 1:14:17Tad Eggleston: I had to pull out my typewriter and use the typewriter.
- 1:14:20Tad Eggleston: And that's slowed me down, but it'll still also mean a cooler letter when I send it, so…
- 1:14:28Tad Eggleston: I need to make a point of that, particularly because here I am promising on there. You're my accountability partners. In 4 weeks, you have to ask if the letter's written.
- 1:14:37Matt: Okay.
- 1:14:38belle price: I like this, yes, accountability partners, yes.
- 1:14:41Larry Woods: If only we had a written record of… this conversation.
- 1:14:45Tad Eggleston: So, so, so, letter, letters are to be sent to, to be continued, 4335 Van Nuys Boulevard, Suite 332, Sherman Oaks, California, 91403. They can be
- 1:15:02Tad Eggleston: addressed to Brian, or Fiona, or Milkshake.
- 1:15:08Tad Eggleston: You know…
- 1:15:09Larry Woods: One, one free.
- 1:15:10Tad Eggleston: bet.
- 1:15:11Tad Eggleston: There we go.
- 1:15:14Matt: I'm setting mine to Tootsie.
- 1:15:16belle price: I'm sending mine to, LionCat. I'm gonna ask her how many lies she's heard.
- 1:15:23belle price: Allie?
- 1:15:27Tad Eggleston: So, yeah. That's the only word you can say, I mean… You get, you guys are my accountability partners.
- 1:15:35Tad Eggleston: And, I have to finally actually… Actually write the letter.
- 1:15:43Tad Eggleston: To… to… To say, we, we love, love your work.
- 1:15:51Tad Eggleston: And, we'd very much like to talk to you.
- 1:15:54Tad Eggleston: I know you don't do a lot of podcasts, but please, please come join us sometime.
- 1:15:58Tad Eggleston: Cuz… Would be nice.
- 1:16:01Tad Eggleston: We won't get too angry at you about the massively bad actions of the will.
- 1:16:07Matt: Well, yeah.
- 1:16:09Tad Eggleston: And… and Fiona, just for the record, we blame Brian exclusively for that.
- 1:16:20Tad Eggleston: We know you would have saved him if you could.
- 1:16:23belle price: All the bad eras, man. Listen, I… it's good to watch his downfall.
- 1:16:30belle price: Honestly, kind of cathartic.
- 1:16:32Tad Eggleston: So, alright. For the Saga Book Club on 22 Panels, Matt, take us out.
- 1:16:44Matt: We'll continue after the next page.
