- 0:05Speaker 1: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the right time. A wave original.
- 0:09Speaker 1: My name is Bobani Jones. Thanks for listening wherever you
- 0:11Speaker 1: get your podcast. Thanks for watching us on YouTube. Subscribe, like,
- 0:15Speaker 1: rate us, review us, give us five stars. You only
- 0:18Speaker 1: give us four stars. I'm inclined to believe you are
- 0:21Speaker 1: a hater. We are going to resume our top 25
- 0:24Speaker 1: athletes of the last 25 years. This episode, stick around
- 0:28Speaker 1: with us. But guys, got to let you know something
- 0:31Speaker 1: just so you understand. We are taping a little bit
- 0:34Speaker 1: farther in advance than we typically do, especially for a Monday, right?
- 0:38Speaker 2: Which makes it impossible.
- 0:39Speaker 1: We can't exactly see into the future to tell you
- 0:43Speaker 1: what there is to talk about on Monday. And so
- 0:46Speaker 1: we was going to talk a little bit about something
- 0:48Speaker 1: involving Arch Manning because that's becoming a thing. But I
- 0:51Speaker 1: have to be honest with you. We are having a
- 0:54Speaker 1: morning that has involved some things that If I got
- 1:01Speaker 1: to record something right now, you're going to have to
- 1:03Speaker 1: hear me talk about them for a little bit.
- 1:05Speaker 2: You know what I mean?
- 1:06Speaker 1: Like very rarely am I in a situation where I'm
- 1:08Speaker 1: just going to put what I feel like talking about
- 1:11Speaker 1: ahead of the interest of the audience.
- 1:12Speaker 2: I don't really do that.
- 1:14Speaker 1: I also understand that you people have the shortest attention
- 1:16Speaker 1: spans in the world. So it's possible that maybe just
- 1:19Speaker 1: maybe you're not going to remember what this is that
- 1:21Speaker 1: we talk about right now. But I feel very confident
- 1:24Speaker 1: that you are in fact going to remember what it
- 1:27Speaker 1: is that we're talking about okay so minding my own
- 1:31Speaker 1: business i get up in the morning just got back
- 1:34Speaker 1: from vegas for work you know what i'm saying um
- 1:38Speaker 1: came across some you know i guess this is the
- 1:41Speaker 1: week that everybody found out about clay thompson and megan
- 1:44Speaker 1: the stallion i ain't gonna talk about that here right
- 1:46Speaker 1: now not not not yet you know what i'm saying
- 1:49Speaker 1: not not This is shout out to you, Clay Thompson,
- 1:53Speaker 1: by the way.
- 1:53Speaker 2: I will say this. This is the one thing I'm
- 1:55Speaker 2: going to say for Clay Thompson. And I think that
- 1:57Speaker 2: this is very, very important to note. Right.
- 2:00Speaker 1: While there was some measure of surprise that this is
- 2:03Speaker 1: where he wound up. Nobody's treating it like they did
- 2:07Speaker 1: when Russell Wilson turned up with Sierra. And trust there
- 2:09Speaker 1: were people surprised on the very same levels. But this
- 2:13Speaker 1: tells you that we think Clay is just a little
- 2:15Speaker 1: bit cooler. Just had that thought. But anyway, somebody has
- 2:19Speaker 1: sent me something about that. And then the next thing
- 2:22Speaker 1: I know, I look on, I think it must have
- 2:24Speaker 1: been the Twitter timeline. I don't think anybody sent it
- 2:27Speaker 1: to me. And they showed his clip of this couple, man.
- 2:30Speaker 2: And they look like they look so in love. You know,
- 2:34Speaker 2: they there. Right.
- 2:35Speaker 1: And they all wrapped up with each other. And apparently
- 2:38Speaker 1: they was at a Coldplay concert and the camera was
- 2:41Speaker 1: on them because they was on the Jumbotron. And they
- 2:44Speaker 1: was like the lady was in front, but it was
- 2:46Speaker 1: behind her with the arms wrapped all the way around.
- 2:49Speaker 1: You know, that's when you feeling it where it's like
- 2:50Speaker 1: it's like you hugging yourself.
- 2:52Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying? You go so hard with it.
- 2:54Speaker 1: Man, she looked up and saw that they was on
- 2:56Speaker 1: the jumbo tribe. Man, she put her hand over her
- 2:59Speaker 1: head and turned around. And then that white man that
- 3:01Speaker 1: was standing behind him. But I am going to say
- 3:03Speaker 1: that white man because he ducked like somebody started shooting.
- 3:05Speaker 1: And when I say that white man ducked like somebody
- 3:08Speaker 1: started shooting in your mind, you are probably thinking about
- 3:11Speaker 1: somebody hitting the ground immediately. No, that's why I said
- 3:14Speaker 1: like a white man when somebody started shooting, he ducked.
- 3:18Speaker 2: Took his time and got there.
- 3:19Speaker 1: I understand from the gray in his hair that he
- 3:22Speaker 1: probably is a little bit older and you can't hit
- 3:23Speaker 1: the ground quite in that same way. But they fully
- 3:26Speaker 1: understood that they were on the proverbial Summer Jam screen.
- 3:33Speaker 1: And Ryan, this video has captivated America. as we talk
- 3:39Speaker 1: about this, and I, well, let me go to you first. Like,
- 3:43Speaker 1: what was your thought upon seeing this?
- 3:45Speaker 3: I had several thoughts. My favorite part, and I think
- 3:48Speaker 3: you pointed this out on Twitter, is how much Chris
- 3:50Speaker 3: Martin clocked it immediately.
- 3:52Speaker 1: Yo, he was like, oh, yeah, either they're having an
- 3:54Speaker 1: affair or they're really shy.
- 3:56Speaker 2: They're having an affair, motherfucker.
- 3:58Speaker 1: You knew exactly what they was doing.
- 4:00Speaker 3: And you could almost hear, like, either the ba-dum-tsh or
- 4:03Speaker 3: the crickets. Yes. like afterwards but like he just clocks
- 4:07Speaker 3: it immediately secondly um just being that brazen to having
- 4:13Speaker 3: an affair at a very popular concert.
- 4:16Speaker 1: Yo so so this is the thing about that right
- 4:20Speaker 1: and that's that was what got me so this guy
- 4:22Speaker 1: because you know the internet they found out that he
- 4:24Speaker 1: was the ceo of something and she's the uh an
- 4:28Speaker 1: hr director yep Oh, that's that's what are y'all at
- 4:33Speaker 1: least what are y'all can't work here no more. Right.
- 4:36Speaker 1: Like like like this. This has happened. But that demographic. OK,
- 4:40Speaker 1: I was telling you about this many years ago. I
- 4:42Speaker 1: interviewed for a job with Jim Rohn and this was
- 4:46Speaker 1: back in the ringtone era. And he and I remember
- 4:49Speaker 1: the people that would just be around. <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL>.
- 4:53Speaker 2: <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL>.
- 4:55Speaker 1: <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> That's what it's called. That was
- 4:57Speaker 1: what everybody's ringtone was at the time. I am saying
- 5:01Speaker 1: that to simply say that those people at that concert,
- 5:06Speaker 1: the demographic is they friends.
- 5:10Speaker 2: You see what I'm saying?
- 5:11Speaker 1: The demographic is their colleagues. That's who's gonna be there.
- 5:16Speaker 1: Even if they ain't get you on the Jumbotron, somebody
- 5:19Speaker 1: there gonna see you. And what people need to understand
- 5:22Speaker 1: in this day and age, it's very simple. The technology
- 5:25Speaker 1: makes it easier to cheat than ever. It also makes
- 5:27Speaker 1: it easier to get caught. And so I seen somebody
- 5:30Speaker 1: on the internet or Twitter that was like, why would
- 5:32Speaker 1: you cheat somewhere with a Jumbotron Hey, buddy, you late.
- 5:35Speaker 1: Everywhere got a jumbotron. It's a goddamn camera everywhere you turn.
- 5:39Speaker 1: Anything could potentially happen directly in front of you. And
- 5:42Speaker 1: this and this could be your chance. The whole world
- 5:47Speaker 1: has a jumbotron and a jumbotron is in your pocket.
- 5:50Speaker 1: they ain't getting caught up right now because they got
- 5:53Speaker 1: caught on the jumbotron they get caught up right now
- 5:55Speaker 1: because they got caught on the internet they could have
- 5:57Speaker 1: been in the crowd and a fistfight broke out in
- 5:59Speaker 1: front of them and then somebody gonna see their face
- 6:02Speaker 1: and then boom they are on the jumbotron they are
- 6:06Speaker 1: hooked and i i am trying to think what do
- 6:13Speaker 1: you do under those circumstances right Because you can't, people
- 6:20Speaker 1: are like, he should have just leaned into it.
- 6:21Speaker 2: No, sir. No, sir.
- 6:24Speaker 1: Because you're already embarrassing your spouses by being caught doing this,
- 6:29Speaker 1: which is the grand transgression, right? You got to at
- 6:34Speaker 1: least look like you care that you just messed up.
- 6:37Speaker 1: Like somebody still got to go home.
- 6:41Speaker 3: You at least have to limit the footage. Right.
- 6:44Speaker 1: Right.
- 6:45Speaker 3: Like you just can't, you can't let it go on
- 6:47Speaker 3: a nanosecond longer than it has.
- 6:49Speaker 1: I mean, look, they just put up some really bad film, right?
- 6:51Speaker 1: And the film they put up was excellent film because
- 6:54Speaker 1: the reason they got caught on screen is because.
- 6:56Speaker 2: They look so in love.
- 6:58Speaker 3: So happy.
- 6:58Speaker 2: They look so happy.
- 6:59Speaker 1: The cameraman is like, oh shit, let's go ahead and
- 7:02Speaker 1: put them on the camera.
- 7:04Speaker 3: Of all the couples in the Coldplay concert, they decided
- 7:07Speaker 3: to show how much involved they were.
- 7:09Speaker 2: Only to misunderstand, right?
- 7:11Speaker 1: So they have already demonstrated to their spouses that they
- 7:14Speaker 1: got the real thing over there, right? You got to
- 7:18Speaker 1: at least look like, oh, man, I feel bad about
- 7:22Speaker 1: what has happened. That film had to be put up.
- 7:28Speaker 1: They did go ahead and put up that film. I
- 7:31Speaker 1: saw this reminded people of who them people on Good
- 7:34Speaker 1: Morning America? Buddy from Arkansas, TJ Holmes, and whoever that
- 7:39Speaker 1: woman was that he was with. I don't remember her name.
- 7:42Speaker 3: That one from a few years ago?
- 7:43Speaker 1: Yes.
- 7:44Speaker 3: I don't remember the names, but yes, that couple.
- 7:46Speaker 2: I will tell you this.
- 7:48Speaker 1: After this all happened, I saw them out one day
- 7:55Speaker 1: at lunch. They could not have looked happier. They couldn't
- 8:04Speaker 1: have possibly looked.
- 8:06Speaker 2: Look, they were beating. They was holding hands. They was
- 8:10Speaker 2: touching each other for.
- 8:10Speaker 3: No goddamn reason.
- 8:12Speaker 2: They were glowing. They looked ecstatic. Like, that's the same
- 8:15Speaker 2: thing here.
- 8:16Speaker 1: It's also the woman right next to them in the
- 8:18Speaker 1: shot who has realized what has happened. Yeah.
- 8:22Speaker 2: And it's just like.
- 8:24Speaker 3: The Larry David of the situation.
- 8:25Speaker 2: I can't believe this is.
- 8:28Speaker 1: Then there's the other guy who he realizes the camera's
- 8:31Speaker 1: now on him and he's on camera. So he just
- 8:33Speaker 1: looks at the camera and starts pumping his fist because
- 8:36Speaker 1: he's like, oh, clearly they don't want to be on screen.
- 8:39Speaker 1: I want like two different people in this moment of
- 8:43Speaker 1: great shame for these folks jumped in front of the camera.
- 8:46Speaker 3: The Jumbotron has that effect on people.
- 8:48Speaker 2: Oh my, which for me, it would be like the opposite, man.
- 8:51Speaker 2: I'm just.
- 8:52Speaker 1: I'm just going to throw it out there that I
- 8:54Speaker 1: feel like they need to stop doing this.
- 8:58Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying? Like, like you gotta, I'm
- 9:05Speaker 2: going to throw this out here just as a thought.
- 9:09Speaker 1: There are certain couples who will be at an event
- 9:12Speaker 1: like this that you may not put on camera because
- 9:17Speaker 1: you recognize that those people may not want to be
- 9:21Speaker 1: seen on.
- 9:22Speaker 2: Camera, right?
- 9:25Speaker 1: For example, I went to a concert not that long
- 9:29Speaker 1: ago and I saw one of those couples and they
- 9:32Speaker 1: were with each other and those two were trying to
- 9:34Speaker 1: pretend like they were not a couple.
- 9:37Speaker 2: They were very clearly a couple. It was no doubt.
- 9:41Speaker 1: And what made it no doubt that they was a
- 9:42Speaker 1: couple was how hard they was working to try to
- 9:45Speaker 1: act like they wasn't a couple. They just wouldn't talking
- 9:47Speaker 1: to each other. They wouldn't give each other pound, nothing.
- 9:49Speaker 1: They just, just straight ahead. They was dressed nice and
- 9:53Speaker 1: not looking at each other, not talking to each other.
- 9:55Speaker 1: And I was like, y'all are a couple. We know this,
- 9:58Speaker 1: but they would never put them on. the screen because
- 10:00Speaker 1: they would understand and be protective of their privacy. And
- 10:03Speaker 1: I'm just saying, maybe you should try to do that
- 10:05Speaker 1: with everybody, right?
- 10:07Speaker 2: That's just putting it out there.
- 10:08Speaker 1: The idea that just because we came on a date
- 10:12Speaker 1: means that our date belongs to everybody is a foolish assumption, right?
- 10:17Speaker 1: So yes, there are people that want to be on
- 10:18Speaker 1: the Jumbotron. You can find them pretty easily. Many of
- 10:22Speaker 1: them came by themselves, right? That's all I'm saying. It's
- 10:27Speaker 1: all a thought out there for that situation. Cause I
- 10:30Speaker 1: personally can not stop laughing. This, this, this, between that
- 10:37Speaker 1: and Shane Gillis at the Espy's brother, I have gotten
- 10:40Speaker 1: great entertainment.
- 10:40Speaker 2: And I'm gonna say this right now.
- 10:42Speaker 1: Shane Gillis did not hit all of them out of
- 10:45Speaker 1: the park, but he had a couple of them to
- 10:47Speaker 1: the moon. I was like, I can't believe this is happening.
- 10:50Speaker 2: There are officially no more rules at that place.
- 10:53Speaker 3: The idea of Shane Gillis hosting the ESPYs even three
- 10:59Speaker 3: years ago, certainly, you know, seven or eight years ago
- 11:02Speaker 3: at ESPN, they've come a long way. Let's put it
- 11:06Speaker 3: that way.
- 11:06Speaker 1: Shane Gillis hosting the ESPYs and Eclipse talking about pumping bass.
- 11:11Speaker 2: I don't even think. I'm not even sure Saturday Night.
- 11:18Speaker 1: Live is putting together that collection of hosts and musical guests,
- 11:23Speaker 1: but I'm just watching these dudes talk about pumping cocaine
- 11:26Speaker 1: for the ESPYs crowd, like playing a damn near 25-year-old
- 11:30Speaker 1: cocaine carol with their new cocaine carol that they have
- 11:34Speaker 1: up there, and I'm just looking at all of it,
- 11:36Speaker 1: and Shane Gillis is telling Epstein jokes, right? He went
- 11:41Speaker 1: there with the Caitlin Clark thing.
- 11:44Speaker 2: People said he was making fun of black women on
- 11:45Speaker 2: that one. I thought.
- 11:47Speaker 1: I didn't think that was what he said. Caitlin Clark
- 11:49Speaker 1: fistfights black women. He didn't say to black women fistfights
- 11:51Speaker 1: Caitlin Clark. Like maybe there's some other level that I missed.
- 11:54Speaker 3: The extended bit about the fake WNBA wife.
- 11:57Speaker 2: That that was funny.
- 11:59Speaker 1: Yeah, that was that was that was I think that
- 12:02Speaker 1: was one of those to me where you're interpreting. There
- 12:06Speaker 1: are two reasonable interpretations, right? Interpretation one is that the
- 12:10Speaker 1: joke is, ha ha, people don't know WNBA players. I
- 12:13Speaker 1: didn't think that was the joke. The joke was on
- 12:15Speaker 1: the people who do pretend to know WNBA players.
- 12:18Speaker 3: Because they want to show up. And were pandered to.
- 12:20Speaker 2: Yes. Those people exist.
- 12:22Speaker 1: Yes. Right? Like, just because the worst people in the
- 12:24Speaker 1: world are the ones most vocal about them, we cannot
- 12:26Speaker 1: pretend that those people do not exist and that they
- 12:28Speaker 1: are not occasionally funny. But I, there were, the joint
- 12:33Speaker 1: about the last time Donald Trump staged a UFC fight
- 12:36Speaker 1: at the White House.
- 12:38Speaker 2: Mike Pence almost died.
- 12:40Speaker 3: Funny. Funny.
- 12:42Speaker 2: I am bold. Those were some... He took some chances.
- 12:47Speaker 2: He missed two.
- 12:48Speaker 1: Like when he tried to redo the Norm Macdonald joke.
- 12:50Speaker 1: If you explain that you redid the Norm Macdonald joke,
- 12:52Speaker 1: which I guess you kind of sort of have to do. Yeah.
- 12:56Speaker 2: Missed the mark.
- 12:57Speaker 1: The whole thing about Donald Trump thinking that Juan Soto
- 13:00Speaker 1: was alien.
- 13:01Speaker 2: Another good one. Another good one.
- 13:03Speaker 3: It went there, but funny.
- 13:05Speaker 2: Yes, but I'm just... I my shock at that.
- 13:09Speaker 1: Right. You know, look, I worked with four in various
- 13:13Speaker 1: capacities for about 20 years.
- 13:15Speaker 2: Right.
- 13:16Speaker 1: I've known what you can and can't get away with.
- 13:17Speaker 1: I've been there for the ebbs and flows of the
- 13:20Speaker 1: things that you could do, whether it be digital or
- 13:22Speaker 1: whatever it is. Right.
- 13:22Speaker 2: Like I've seen all the changes. This is wild.
- 13:26Speaker 3: Right.
- 13:26Speaker 1: Like this is now there are officially no rules as
- 13:30Speaker 1: long as you're talking about stuff that doesn't really matter.
- 13:33Speaker 1: You know, because like talking about stuff that matters, that
- 13:36Speaker 1: there's less of that.
- 13:37Speaker 2: And look, they've concluded that people don't want that. OK.
- 13:42Speaker 1: And then they can't control anything else that anybody does
- 13:45Speaker 1: because you can't.
- 13:45Speaker 2: Control what McAfee does.
- 13:46Speaker 1: Right. And so I saw clips of that show and
- 13:49Speaker 1: was just like, this is insane. I don't I don't
- 13:52Speaker 1: know anything. that's going on over there.
- 13:56Speaker 3: You brought up a good point that kind of ties
- 13:58Speaker 3: back to the Coldplay of it all is that, you know,
- 14:02Speaker 3: one of my main takeaways from Shane Gillis is, you know,
- 14:04Speaker 3: it was a tough room, but again, going back to Coldplay,
- 14:08Speaker 3: you said that's a room of people who can't get
- 14:11Speaker 3: caught laughing. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 14:13Speaker 1: So them jokes right there, like nobody wants to be
- 14:16Speaker 1: the one to get caught laughing.
- 14:17Speaker 2: At the FC.
- 14:17Speaker 3: They understood that everywhere is a jumbotron.
- 14:19Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's it. That is a great point.
- 14:21Speaker 1: That is a room full of people perfectly aware that
- 14:25Speaker 1: somebody is watching them at all times.
- 14:27Speaker 3: They're always on camera and they're always mic'd.
- 14:30Speaker 1: Nobody in there is acting like it's Comic.
- 14:33Speaker 2: View and falling out of their seats and slapping their
- 14:36Speaker 2: knee hard in their mouth like ain't nobody doing none
- 14:37Speaker 2: of that stuff. No, sir.
- 14:39Speaker 1: That was not on the board for any of those
- 14:42Speaker 1: people there. I will bring up one last thing that
- 14:45Speaker 1: came up that I also thought was very interesting, which is,
- 14:48Speaker 1: did you read, Ryan, I don't know if you had
- 14:49Speaker 1: the chance, but did you see that sad-ass story about
- 14:51Speaker 1: Joel Embiid?
- 14:53Speaker 3: I saw the breakouts. I have not read the article. Yeah.
- 14:56Speaker 2: Look, man, I couldn't read, you know, me, I don't
- 14:58Speaker 2: do recreational sass.
- 14:59Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying? I ain't about that wallow.
- 15:02Speaker 1: I could not read the whole thing. I saw parts
- 15:05Speaker 1: of it jump out, but I am just going to
- 15:07Speaker 1: throw something out there that I think is a very
- 15:09Speaker 1: big deal and bad sign for a lot of people.
- 15:11Speaker 1: If you have an interest in the Philadelphia 76ers and
- 15:13Speaker 1: that article talked a whole lot about how sad he
- 15:16Speaker 1: is and all the stuff and everything that's happening, dah, dah, dah.
- 15:19Speaker 1: But yeah, Nobody I've talked to really came away from
- 15:21Speaker 1: that story with a clear idea of whether he is
- 15:25Speaker 1: physically ready to play basketball.
- 15:26Speaker 3: No, yeah, there was nothing in there that said Joel
- 15:28Speaker 3: Embiid's rehab is going great and he is slated to
- 15:31Speaker 3: be ready for training camp or, you know, seasons among this.
- 15:34Speaker 2: We will not see him play anytime soon.
- 15:37Speaker 1: If that's the case, if you come out of that
- 15:40Speaker 1: 50,000 words or whatever that was about his feelings and
- 15:44Speaker 1: nothing about how his knee feels.
- 15:49Speaker 2: Ruh-roh.
- 15:54Speaker 1: All right, Ryan, we are back to our top 25
- 15:58Speaker 1: athletes of the last 25 years. You can go back
- 16:01Speaker 1: and check our previous episode with athletes 25 through 21.
- 16:06Speaker 2: Also one with Spencer Hall.
- 16:07Speaker 1: So what we're going to do is we'll give you
- 16:08Speaker 1: some from the list and then we'll talk about some
- 16:10Speaker 1: context about the different athletes in the last 25 years.
- 16:13Speaker 1: Not a specific rundown of the list itself, but kind
- 16:16Speaker 1: of broader things, because I have to be able to
- 16:18Speaker 1: do this in a way where I can also live
- 16:20Speaker 1: with myself. Right. Correct.
- 16:21Speaker 3: This is not BuzzFeed.
- 16:23Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah.
- 16:23Speaker 2: This is what we got to do.
- 16:24Speaker 1: So look, we got, you know, we have some of
- 16:26Speaker 1: our specifications. We are doing this for North American athletes
- 16:30Speaker 1: who were 25 or younger on January 1st in the
- 16:34Speaker 1: year of our Lord 2000. That's how we do this.
- 16:37Speaker 1: We have so far gotten through 25 through 21 and
- 16:39Speaker 1: 25 through 21 athletes. were, let me get to this right,
- 16:43Speaker 1: there we go, 25 was Randy Moss, 24 Cam Newton,
- 16:46Speaker 1: 23 Albert Pujols, 22 Ray Lewis, 21 is Tim Duncan,
- 16:51Speaker 1: and now number 20 is.
- 16:57Speaker 2: A wild card selection.
- 17:00Speaker 1: Now, you guys may be wondering, what do I mean
- 17:03Speaker 1: about a wild card selection? Well, you know, first of all,
- 17:06Speaker 1: I already explained to you, I ain't going to be
- 17:08Speaker 1: arguing with you about this. You argue with yourself. I'm
- 17:10Speaker 1: coming up with content that you guys will enjoy. I
- 17:12Speaker 1: am not out here looking for fights. Not going to
- 17:15Speaker 1: argue with you. People like, how is Allen Iverson not
- 17:17Speaker 1: on the list? You don't even know what's on the
- 17:19Speaker 1: goddamn list. And you're already talking about- Yeah, we're 20% in. Yeah,
- 17:23Speaker 1: you don't even know what nothing is. How can he
- 17:25Speaker 1: not make the list? Why don't you wait and get
- 17:26Speaker 1: to the end and find out why he's not on
- 17:29Speaker 1: the list? You know what you need to understand? And
- 17:30Speaker 1: I said I wasn't going to argue with you. I'm
- 17:32Speaker 1: not arguing with you. I'm talking to you like I'm
- 17:34Speaker 1: your daddy. You know what the thing is that you
- 17:36Speaker 1: need to understand about a top 25 list? it can
- 17:39Speaker 1: only have 25 people on it. That's what you need
- 17:42Speaker 1: to understand. That's what it comes down to, no matter
- 17:45Speaker 1: what it is. So only 25 is who we talking about.
- 17:49Speaker 1: It's a lot of excellence out here.
- 17:51Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying?
- 17:52Speaker 1: We got to start giving props to the excellence. And unfortunately,
- 17:55Speaker 1: Allen Iverson might have been number 26. You know who
- 17:59Speaker 1: else also, unfortunately, was not able to make this list?
- 18:05Speaker 1: Throw it out here, another Others Receiving Votes candidate.
- 18:10Speaker 2: What's his name? Alice Rodriguez. That's who. He can't make
- 18:19Speaker 2: the list. Alice Rodriguez got 696 home runs. He can't
- 18:23Speaker 2: make the list.
- 18:24Speaker 3: Why?
- 18:24Speaker 1: The list only got 25 people on it. So here's
- 18:28Speaker 1: what this wild card selection is, okay? Whoever it is
- 18:33Speaker 1: that you got on your mind that you think should
- 18:35Speaker 1: have made this list and did not, you got two choices.
- 18:40Speaker 1: You can put that person into the wildcard selection and
- 18:45Speaker 1: say that they made the list so that you like.
- 18:48Speaker 2: It more or, or, or.
- 18:52Speaker 1: You could take that very name and shove it up
- 18:56Speaker 1: your keister. I'm giving you two choices, right? Maybe your
- 19:01Speaker 1: keister can't handle that. I would understand if it couldn't, right?
- 19:05Speaker 1: You don't have to do it to your keister. You
- 19:07Speaker 1: can put it in the wild card spot. But if
- 19:10Speaker 1: you don't want to put it in your wild card spot,
- 19:13Speaker 1: the keister is where it goes. Brian, you seem like you.
- 19:18Speaker 2: Had something to say.
- 19:20Speaker 3: No, I was just laughing. Yes, just saying.
- 19:22Speaker 2: Like, that's just, people get mad.
- 19:23Speaker 1: Like, oh, yeah.
- 19:28Speaker 2: Especially, dude, I remember Ryan. Ryan worked at the school
- 19:32Speaker 2: when I worked up there.
- 19:33Speaker 1: And he said something about why I had no hockey
- 19:34Speaker 1: players on there. Because I don't know nothing about no hockey, right?
- 19:38Speaker 1: I am an entire committee. If it was a broader committee,
- 19:41Speaker 1: then everybody would have room to do all that stuff.
- 19:43Speaker 2: But that ain't what we got. This ain't science. I'm
- 19:47Speaker 2: just giving you this shit.
- 19:48Speaker 3: Correct.
- 19:49Speaker 1: That's it.
- 19:50Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying? So wild card for you.
- 19:52Speaker 1: Put whatever hockey player you want to put in there
- 19:55Speaker 1: if you want to. It's probably some soccer player out
- 19:59Speaker 1: here that I didn't think about. You can knock the
- 20:01Speaker 1: dust off of Freddie Adu and throw him in there
- 20:04Speaker 1: if you want to.
- 20:05Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying?
- 20:06Speaker 1: You got all kinds of options for what it is
- 20:09Speaker 1: that you can do and throw them people in there.
- 20:12Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 20:12Speaker 3: Oh, oh, oh.
- 20:13Speaker 2: Another one. If you'd like.
- 20:17Speaker 1: You can put in Caitlin Clark. Christine, Brendan, listen to
- 20:22Speaker 1: the show.
- 20:23Speaker 2: Because if so, we left that spot for you.
- 20:26Speaker 3: As the producer, I'm putting in Caitlin Clark for my list.
- 20:30Speaker 2: Yes, yes. You know what?
- 20:31Speaker 3: The one who asked to decide how this show is
- 20:34Speaker 3: found via Google search, he's putting in Caitlin Clark.
- 20:38Speaker 1: I'm so glad I just said that. Go ahead and
- 20:40Speaker 1: put that in the title, brother man. I had not
- 20:43Speaker 1: really thought about the serendipity that we could have and
- 20:46Speaker 1: to put this all together until that very moment.
- 20:48Speaker 2: Yes, sir. Go ahead. and put her in there.
- 20:51Speaker 1: And see, I have figured this out, how to at
- 20:54Speaker 1: once make this list a talking point while also allowing
- 20:58Speaker 1: you to feel like you got some agency in this situation, right?
- 21:03Speaker 1: It is a way for your opinion to matter without
- 21:07Speaker 1: me having to care about it.
- 21:09Speaker 2: Like, I can't think of anything in the.
- 21:12Speaker 1: World that brings us all together in a better way
- 21:16Speaker 1: and serves everybody's aim.
- 21:18Speaker 2: Tell me how you feel I don't have to listen.
- 21:23Speaker 2: But you still feel heard. That's what I'm talking about.
- 21:32Speaker 1: Nothing beats relaxing on a hot summer day and watching baseball.
- 21:36Speaker 1: And the simplest way to get in on the action
- 21:37Speaker 1: is to download the Pick.

- 22:21Speaker 1: pre-alcohol probiotic drink is the world's first genetically engineered probiotic.
- 22:25Speaker 1: It was invented by PhD scientists to tackle rough mornings
- 22:29Speaker 1: after drinking.
- 22:30Speaker 2: Here's how it works.
- 22:31Speaker 1: When you drink, alcohol gets converted into a toxic byproduct
- 22:35Speaker 1: in the gut. It's a buildup of this byproduct, not dehydration,
- 22:39Speaker 1: that's to blame for rough days after drinking. Prebiotic produces
- 22:43Speaker 1: an enzyme to break this byproduct down. Just remember to
- 22:47Speaker 1: make pre-alcohol your first drink of the night, drink responsibly,
- 22:50Speaker 1: and you'll feel your best tomorrow. Summer is here, which
- 22:54Speaker 1: means more opportunities to celebrate the warm weather. Before that

- 23:02Speaker 1: the beach, or cocktail by the campfire, don't forget your
- 23:05Speaker 1: Z-Biotics pre-alcohol. Drink one before drinking and wake up feeling
- 23:09Speaker 1: great and ready to take on the next day and

- 23:47Speaker 1: We have already told you who has been on the list.
- 23:49Speaker 1: We have told you that number 20 was the Burger
- 23:51Speaker 1: King option.
- 23:52Speaker 2: You can have it your way. And now, number 19.
- 23:54Speaker 2: Katie Ledecky is on here.
- 24:01Speaker 1: Now, you're probably saying to yourself, gee, Bomani, you don't
- 24:07Speaker 1: strike me as a person that knows too much about swimming.
- 24:11Speaker 2: I know how to do it. you're racist, okay?
- 24:16Speaker 1: I know how to do it. That's the first thing
- 24:18Speaker 1: that we could understand. I also know a lot about
- 24:22Speaker 1: like sports and races, R-A-C-E-S. I know that when Kate
- 24:30Speaker 1: and Ledecky get out there and swim for a mile,
- 24:34Speaker 1: she gets to the end of the race and she
- 24:38Speaker 1: could be dressed By the time the other people get there.
- 24:42Speaker 1: And I have been watching her do that now, I believe,
- 24:45Speaker 1: for four Olympics.
- 24:47Speaker 2: Ryan, do I have that right? Correct.
- 24:50Speaker 3: I mean, she's won the half mile at 2012, 2016,
- 24:51Speaker 3: 2020 and 2024. She's a four time Olympian. She's not
- 24:52Speaker 3: even 30 years old.
- 25:01Speaker 2: Yo, this is insane.
- 25:04Speaker 1: I find something extra special about, and we'll talk more
- 25:08Speaker 1: about other people who I think on this list fit
- 25:10Speaker 1: this description, but there is something to me extra amazing
- 25:15Speaker 1: about when I am watching somebody do something that I
- 25:17Speaker 1: don't really know that much about, And I can tell
- 25:21Speaker 1: very clearly that you are dominating this, that nobody is
- 25:26Speaker 1: in the same zone. Like if you want me to
- 25:28Speaker 1: try to figure out, I mean, also let's be fair.
- 25:30Speaker 1: It helps in these games that are just strictly about
- 25:33Speaker 1: the clock, right? Right. Okay.
- 25:35Speaker 2: Where are you finished relative to everybody else?
- 25:37Speaker 1: But there's still even something else about it where it's
- 25:39Speaker 1: like when they show those clips of her at the
- 25:42Speaker 1: end and it looked like everybody's.
- 25:44Speaker 2: Still going the other way. She looked like she laughing people.
- 25:47Speaker 3: They have to redo the television broadcast because they can
- 25:49Speaker 3: only go out so wide to show her in all
- 25:51Speaker 3: of her competitors.
- 25:52Speaker 1: Never seen anything like, okay, so actually, Ryan, you just
- 25:56Speaker 1: pointed out something that I don't think I quite grasped.
- 25:59Speaker 2: Which is, is it really the 800 that she's doing
- 26:03Speaker 2: people like that?
- 26:04Speaker 3: Yeah, it's the 800.
- 26:06Speaker 1: Okay, so it ain't even as much time as I'm
- 26:08Speaker 1: thinking about to really stretch out a lead.
- 26:11Speaker 2: Correct.
- 26:12Speaker 1: Correct.
- 26:13Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, it is. I mean, she she she
- 26:16Speaker 3: started as a dominant 800 meter. The 1500 has been
- 26:19Speaker 3: in the last two Olympics. But like so when you
- 26:21Speaker 3: see that gap, that is in half the distance she
- 26:25Speaker 3: has to do that.
- 26:26Speaker 1: I had never considered that because like, let's be honest here.
- 26:29Speaker 1: it'd be a little bit difficult to watch them super
- 26:31Speaker 1: long swimming matches. They show all that swimming on the
- 26:35Speaker 1: Olympics because America good at it.
- 26:39Speaker 2: America's good at it.
- 26:41Speaker 1: It happens right then and you can put so often
- 26:45Speaker 1: it is the same person doing so many different events.
- 26:48Speaker 3: You can build a story up very well.
- 26:49Speaker 1: Yeah, you build a story, you can build a star really,
- 26:52Speaker 1: really fast, right?
- 26:53Speaker 2: And so we always get in there and watch it.
- 26:56Speaker 1: And swimming is interesting by like the metric that Spencer
- 27:02Speaker 1: was talking about, but you saying both, like this is
- 27:03Speaker 1: the thing that everybody has done. Swimming is something to
- 27:06Speaker 1: which everyone has a sort of theoretical access to doing,
- 27:10Speaker 1: but at least in this competitive spirit or anything else,
- 27:12Speaker 1: this is not something that everybody does. This is not
- 27:15Speaker 1: a worldwide sport. You see the competitors are primarily coming
- 27:20Speaker 1: from the United States, Europe, and Asia. You don't see
- 27:25Speaker 1: Africans out here at all. You don't see a lot
- 27:27Speaker 1: of South Americans for whatever reasons. You don't see them
- 27:30Speaker 1: so much participating in this. But I don't feel like,
- 27:34Speaker 1: you know, people talk about like, you know, there's a
- 27:36Speaker 1: cat better than Jordan who didn't get that break.
- 27:37Speaker 2: No, there's not. Right.
- 27:40Speaker 1: I don't I don't think maybe there's somebody in Africa
- 27:42Speaker 1: that's just out here swimming and ain't nobody got no
- 27:44Speaker 1: clock to understand what's cracking.
- 27:45Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 27:46Speaker 1: Like I said that intentionally, ignorantly, just so everybody is clear, because, no,
- 27:50Speaker 1: that's not happening.
- 27:50Speaker 2: Like nobody's doing this. Right. And everybody knows.
- 27:56Speaker 1: People, I guess they have different like things they could
- 27:58Speaker 1: do for training and everything else. But like the actual
- 28:01Speaker 1: act of swimming, we just all out here doing the
- 28:03Speaker 1: same stroke in the same water. And none of you
- 28:06Speaker 1: can get to where I am.
- 28:09Speaker 2: None. She gets to be number 19.
- 28:11Speaker 1: All right, Ryan, number 18.
- 28:21Speaker 2: Mike Trout.
- 28:24Speaker 3: You can talk about the anonymity of Anaheim one more time.
- 28:31Speaker 2: Part of it's the anonymity of Anaheim.
- 28:34Speaker 1: Though most of the guys we've talked about before became
- 28:37Speaker 1: anonymous in Anaheim of their own doing.
- 28:40Speaker 2: They began to play like regular people.
- 28:43Speaker 1: Albert Puholz made himself anonymous the old-fashioned way by becoming
- 28:48Speaker 1: mediocre in his 30s. That's what he managed to do.
- 28:52Speaker 1: Trout The comparison for Trout is, to me, the closest
- 29:00Speaker 1: you can get at least, is what would we have
- 29:04Speaker 1: done with Ricky Henderson in this.
- 29:06Speaker 2: Day and age?
- 29:07Speaker 1: Which is to say, what would we have done with
- 29:09Speaker 1: Ricky Henderson in a time where his power would have
- 29:12Speaker 1: been treated with a greater priority while also having the speed, right? Now,
- 29:19Speaker 1: Mike Trout is not Ricky Henderson. Howard Bryant makes the
- 29:22Speaker 1: great point about Ricky Henderson, which is, Baseball records are
- 29:27Speaker 1: like marathon records. They are long run records. They are
- 29:32Speaker 1: records that take forever to break. They're records that people
- 29:35Speaker 1: break in their 40s, right? Like how long it took
- 29:39Speaker 1: Hank Aaron, for example. to break Babe Ruth's record. How
- 29:42Speaker 1: long it took Barry Bonds to break Hank Aaron's record.
- 29:45Speaker 1: And he may have even done.
- 29:46Speaker 2: That with a little bit of help, right? Ricky Henderson
- 29:52Speaker 2: broke the stolen base record at 32.
- 29:54Speaker 1: At 32.
- 29:55Speaker 2: At 32.
- 29:59Speaker 1: Nobody's breaking an all-time baseball record in 12 years. Nobody
- 30:06Speaker 1: is doing that, right? Mike Trout is not that guy.
- 30:12Speaker 1: But the only reason that we said, I would say
- 30:15Speaker 1: in this case, that he's not that guy is because
- 30:18Speaker 1: he's not stealing that many bases. Ricky is not hitting
- 30:21Speaker 1: with the level of power that Mike Trout is, right?
- 30:26Speaker 1: That's not happening. And by the way, Trout did this
- 30:30Speaker 1: and got out there immediately in doing this.
- 30:34Speaker 3: Immediately.
- 30:35Speaker 1: Also, one of my, the more fascinating Mike Trout things
- 30:39Speaker 1: to me is Mike Trout had a season where he
- 30:42Speaker 1: had won the MVP, but struck out 184 times, which is,
- 30:46Speaker 1: you know, kind of sort of new baseball, but still
- 30:48Speaker 1: he struck out 184 times and then like dialed that
- 30:53Speaker 1: back relatively in a way that.
- 30:55Speaker 2: I think is worth noting, except no. I look at that.
- 30:58Speaker 1: And when he does that, the games played just aren't
- 31:00Speaker 1: that high. He not all, but he's new baseball, right?
- 31:04Speaker 1: Like he's going to get on base. He's going to
- 31:06Speaker 1: draw a decent number of walks. He's going to swing really,
- 31:09Speaker 1: really hard. He has led the majors in stolen bases
- 31:12Speaker 1: in a year where he stole 49 and only got
- 31:14Speaker 1: thrown out five times. Right. That's as a rookie second
- 31:19Speaker 1: MVP MVP voting. I saw a stat about Magic Johnson
- 31:23Speaker 1: that I didn't realize, which was he was in the
- 31:25Speaker 1: top three of the MVP voting, I think, for a
- 31:28Speaker 1: stretch of like nine years in a row or something
- 31:31Speaker 1: like that.
- 31:32Speaker 2: OK, this is Mike Trout, your MVP voting.
- 31:34Speaker 1: 2-2-1-2-1-4-2-1-5. And that's it. And that's when the injuries come.
- 31:44Speaker 1: But I feel like for purposes of our list, three
- 31:47Speaker 1: MVPs and the sort of numbers that he's put up, like, look, man,
- 31:50Speaker 1: he's 33 years old and he's probably going to get
- 31:54Speaker 1: to 400 home runs this year at 33 years old.
- 31:59Speaker 2: When I was a kid, and I know that this
- 32:01Speaker 2: has changed, but when I was.
- 32:03Speaker 1: A kid, 400 home runs, as long as you weren't
- 32:06Speaker 1: Dave Kingman, meant that you were going to the Hall
- 32:08Speaker 1: of Fame. Right. The argument for the greatness of Barry
- 32:12Speaker 1: Bonds is even if you take away everything after the
- 32:15Speaker 1: points at which we generally agree that he started, you know, saying,
- 32:20Speaker 1: you know, you know, getting getting getting hitting that spike. Right.
- 32:26Speaker 1: He had 400 home runs before then. That is a
- 32:29Speaker 1: Hall of Fame career. If Mike Trout had stopped playing
- 32:33Speaker 1: baseball at the age of 30, very similar to Albert Pujols.
- 32:39Speaker 2: He'd be a hall of famer, right?
- 32:41Speaker 1: Like that's why Andrew Jones is not going to, or
- 32:44Speaker 1: has not gotten into the hall of fame because there's haters,
- 32:47Speaker 1: but also because after the age of 30, it kind
- 32:50Speaker 1: of went downhill. Now to me, the argument for Jones
- 32:52Speaker 1: is he is the capital T H E capital G
- 32:57Speaker 1: Raiders defensive center fielder, whoever lived. That is enough to
- 33:00Speaker 1: me to make the hall of fame. If you're also
- 33:02Speaker 1: going to hit for like 400 home runs, I don't
- 33:04Speaker 1: care what happened with you in your 30s. Albert, I mean,
- 33:07Speaker 1: Andrew Jones is not as good as Mike Trout. He
- 33:10Speaker 1: does not have the resume that I just read off
- 33:12Speaker 1: for you with Trout. But that guy, if he stops
- 33:17Speaker 1: at 30, is a Hall of Famer.
- 33:19Speaker 3: Right.
- 33:19Speaker 1: Like to me, it's a Ralph Kiner type of situation.
- 33:22Speaker 1: It is a Kirby Puckett type of situation where, OK,
- 33:25Speaker 1: this guy is just that good. Of course, the thing
- 33:28Speaker 1: with Trout, as you just brought it up, is he
- 33:30Speaker 1: just had no interest in being famous whatsoever. And it
- 33:33Speaker 1: is so wild to me, the idea that the best
- 33:36Speaker 1: baseball player of a generation, right, who is Bryce Harper
- 33:41Speaker 1: has actually kind of turned out to be the guy
- 33:43Speaker 1: that we thought Bryce Harper was going to be when
- 33:45Speaker 1: he was on the cover of Sports Illustrated.
- 33:47Speaker 2: And still not Mike Trout. I think so. I am
- 33:54Speaker 2: not sure, to be honest. But the idea, though, that.
- 34:00Speaker 1: He could turn out, he being Bryce Harper, could turn
- 34:02Speaker 1: out to be what we thought Bryce Harper would turn
- 34:05Speaker 1: out to be. And what it turned out to be?
- 34:10Speaker 1: Not Mike Trout. And that's literally no shame to him.
- 34:16Speaker 1: Like there's no, that's just where Trout turned out to be.
- 34:21Speaker 1: Is it the same draft you're able to check?
- 34:23Speaker 3: Yeah, I would. Mike was 25th overall in 2009. Bryce
- 34:27Speaker 3: Harper was 2010. But still, again, same generation.
- 34:29Speaker 2: Yeah, they're still right there.
- 34:31Speaker 1: Like, I remember Mike Trout broke in the same year
- 34:34Speaker 1: that Yasiel Puig got going.
- 34:37Speaker 2: Oh, yeah. I remember what a phenomenon.
- 34:38Speaker 1: That was when we learned the difference between the Dodgers
- 34:41Speaker 1: and the Angels, right?
- 34:42Speaker 2: Because Puig.
- 34:43Speaker 1: You know, Puig also was like crazy fun to watch, right?
- 34:46Speaker 1: But Puig was such a phenomenon. And I remember me
- 34:49Speaker 1: and Dan, you know, because.
- 34:50Speaker 2: Puig was Cuban.
- 34:51Speaker 1: So me and Lubbock would be on television and we'd
- 34:53Speaker 1: ride for Puig. And then I looked up and was like, hey,
- 34:56Speaker 1: how about we just admit that we ain't been paying
- 34:58Speaker 1: that close attention?
- 35:02Speaker 2: What'd you think about that? That's what seems to be
- 35:05Speaker 2: the case.
- 35:06Speaker 1: As far as I can tell. That we actually are
- 35:09Speaker 1: not doing our proper diligence on our jobs. Because this
- 35:14Speaker 1: is not it. By the way, somebody just sent me
- 35:18Speaker 1: a text about that Coldplay thing.
- 35:21Speaker 2: Said, damn, lost half in 30 seconds.
- 35:27Speaker 3: He did.
- 35:28Speaker 2: He did. That's half. That ride home. Well, first of all,
- 35:36Speaker 2: do you go home?
- 35:37Speaker 3: Do you go home? Do either of them go home?
- 35:40Speaker 2: Where do they think you are right now? You know
- 35:45Speaker 2: what I'm saying? Are your significant.
- 35:47Speaker 1: Others somewhere themselves? Or are they out of town? Did
- 35:52Speaker 1: you say you went on a trip? Where do they
- 35:56Speaker 1: think you are right now? Because you got to get
- 36:00Speaker 1: out ahead of this. I don't think that you can
- 36:03Speaker 1: wait for more people to call.
- 36:07Speaker 2: Sorry, my bad. You just crossed my mind. Just as
- 36:11Speaker 2: that came across. Damn.
- 36:13Speaker 1: Damn. Anyway, we are now at number 18, 17.
- 36:23Speaker 2: 17. Lamar Jackson.
- 36:27Speaker 1: Now, this is where the list starts getting interesting and
- 36:30Speaker 1: starts getting tight. Because the truth is, on one level
- 36:35Speaker 1: to me, this feels a little bit high, right? For example,
- 36:40Speaker 1: I could have put Drew Brees in here.
- 36:45Speaker 2: Drew Brees would.
- 36:46Speaker 1: Have made the age specification. Drew Brees has won a
- 36:49Speaker 1: Super Bowl. Drew Brees was never MVP or first team All-Pro.
- 36:55Speaker 1: Am I certain that Lamar Jackson is better than Drew Brees?
- 36:58Speaker 2: I don't know. That's a tricky question. And we will
- 37:00Speaker 2: have to get to the question that I.
- 37:01Speaker 1: Think we will be asking at a lot of points
- 37:03Speaker 1: on this list and that we asked even on day one,
- 37:05Speaker 1: which is, are you sure he's better than Tim Duncan?
- 37:08Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, the rest of the list is, you know,
- 37:11Speaker 3: a continuation of, is this person better than Tim Duncan?
- 37:14Speaker 1: At every point, it's just going to be like, sometimes
- 37:16Speaker 1: the question will be more compelling than others. Like, we may, like,
- 37:19Speaker 1: every time we do this list, we may have to
- 37:21Speaker 1: redo it and be like, you know what? Actually, Tim
- 37:24Speaker 1: Duncan goes here. Like, there's an argument for this. But
- 37:28Speaker 1: Lamar Jackson is the.
- 37:30Speaker 2: Two-time NFL MVP who....
- 37:36Speaker 1: Is the only person I can think of in the NFL. Well, no,
- 37:41Speaker 1: maybe this happens other times.
- 37:43Speaker 2: Let me be fair.
- 37:44Speaker 1: But the only reason he's not a three-time MVP is
- 37:47Speaker 1: because the writers wanted to be nice to Josh Allen.
- 37:49Speaker 1: That is the only reasonable explanation for how it is
- 37:52Speaker 1: that Lamar Jackson could be first-team All-Pro and Josh Allen
- 37:56Speaker 1: win the MVP and they play the same position. We
- 38:00Speaker 1: all saw this as it happened. It was the participation
- 38:04Speaker 1: trophy moment type thing ever, right? Like everybody deserves to
- 38:08Speaker 1: win every now and then. Like you can't give employee
- 38:11Speaker 1: of the month to the same person every month, even
- 38:13Speaker 1: though every month is the same person doing the job.
- 38:15Speaker 2: You can't do that. That's what wound up happening.
- 38:17Speaker 1: So in my mind, I stopped and I asked myself,
- 38:20Speaker 1: if we took a guy who has now been in
- 38:23Speaker 1: the NFL for seven seasons, he's going into his eighth
- 38:27Speaker 1: season and he's won three MVPs. regardless of the fact
- 38:34Speaker 1: that he has not made it to a Super Bowl,
- 38:37Speaker 1: at that plus a Heisman Trophy and being like a
- 38:40Speaker 1: truly redefining player about what it is to be a
- 38:45Speaker 1: quarterback in the NFL, he's here. Like there's a level
- 38:49Speaker 1: that this feels to me a little bit hasty, but no,
- 38:54Speaker 1: I don't think that you're going to go through and
- 38:57Speaker 1: look at the people who are below him and certainly
- 39:00Speaker 1: say that any of them should be above him.
- 39:01Speaker 3: Especially, you know, one thing we made very clear, and
- 39:04Speaker 3: if you didn't catch the earlier version of the list,
- 39:05Speaker 3: we are putting a lot of emphasis on peak.
- 39:09Speaker 2: Peak.
- 39:09Speaker 3: Peak versus, you know, longevity. And nearly winning back-to-back MVPs
- 39:15Speaker 3: in the NFL is about as high as peak gets.
- 39:18Speaker 1: Right.
- 39:18Speaker 2: Like you can't. There is something to be.
- 39:23Speaker 1: Said for your ability to do this for a very
- 39:26Speaker 1: long time. But when you get to talking about somebody,
- 39:30Speaker 1: like way down the line, grandkids or whatever, you're not
- 39:33Speaker 1: gonna be like.
- 39:34Speaker 2: Oh, we play for a long time. Like that's that's
- 39:37Speaker 2: not that's not going to be what.
- 39:39Speaker 1: You impart when you are explaining what was so impressive.
- 39:43Speaker 1: Even when you get to a point and be like, man,
- 39:45Speaker 1: he did it for a long time. That's not the
- 39:48Speaker 1: part that's going to light you up. Like when we
- 39:49Speaker 1: get to the Tom Brady part, that's going to be
- 39:51Speaker 1: interesting to me. because he was just so coldly effective
- 39:54Speaker 1: and efficient, but it was nothing that just made you,
- 39:57Speaker 1: he just, he ain't do nothing to set your hair
- 39:59Speaker 1: on fire. You just in the end had to look
- 40:01Speaker 1: at it and be like, okay, he's that dude for
- 40:04Speaker 1: getting the job done. Lamar has largely gotten this job
- 40:08Speaker 1: done and done this with varying levels of talent. Like
- 40:10Speaker 1: you can't say he's out there for Dolo now at
- 40:12Speaker 1: this point, but there were points at which it was
- 40:14Speaker 1: looking like, like another, you're the best player on the
- 40:16Speaker 1: high school team. And we put the ball in your
- 40:18Speaker 1: hand and you go do whatever. And I also think,
- 40:23Speaker 1: that a part of this in terms of perceiving him,
- 40:27Speaker 1: and I got to think in my own mind about
- 40:30Speaker 1: what role this plays is, it's somewhat difficult to separate
- 40:34Speaker 1: anything that happens for him in the NFL from how
- 40:38Speaker 1: he wound up getting into the NFL, right? And the
- 40:43Speaker 1: fight of the, I think, and I could be wrong here,
- 40:48Speaker 1: but I think that Lamar Jackson is, may ultimately end
- 40:52Speaker 1: up with his historical legacy being, he might be the
- 40:56Speaker 1: last black quarterback of his ilk to truly have to
- 41:01Speaker 1: fight to play quarterback, right? Where they had to not
- 41:06Speaker 1: run the 40 yard dash, not do any receiving drills
- 41:10Speaker 1: and all of these things. And I do have this
- 41:14Speaker 1: hot tape. Not all of that is as racist as
- 41:17Speaker 1: it seems. right some of it is obviously but if
- 41:22Speaker 1: you don't think that he's a great quarterback i think
- 41:25Speaker 1: most of us do think you'd at least give.
- 41:27Speaker 2: Him a chance at doing some of the other stuff
- 41:30Speaker 2: right gotta get the tires on it i think.
- 41:33Speaker 3: The wild thing about lamar is you almost see this
- 41:35Speaker 3: level of doubt twice obviously it's two different things right
- 41:38Speaker 3: but the whole league comes in and doubts him he
- 41:41Speaker 3: ends up being the last pick of the first round
- 41:42Speaker 3: including the ravens passing on him yes early in that
- 41:45Speaker 3: draft And then you see, you know, fast forward a
- 41:49Speaker 3: few years later, he's a restricted free agent. Any team
- 41:53Speaker 3: in the league can get him for matching his contract
- 41:55Speaker 3: and two first-run picks. Obviously, you have a collision element,
- 41:59Speaker 3: but no one was willing to break ranks and go
- 42:01Speaker 3: get him. Right. And still doubting his, you know, with
- 42:05Speaker 3: his injury risk and everything else, and then he comes
- 42:07Speaker 3: out afterwards, wins an MVP, and nearly wins a second one.
- 42:10Speaker 2: And now, by the way, you raise a point.
- 42:12Speaker 1: Maybe I was out here being a little bit too optimistic.
- 42:18Speaker 1: Perhaps there is still an opportunity for them to doubt
- 42:21Speaker 1: the black quarterback.
- 42:22Speaker 2: My fault, Ryan. I have forgotten that they just did
- 42:27Speaker 2: that a couple.
- 42:28Speaker 3: Of years ago.
- 42:30Speaker 2: That happened.
- 42:30Speaker 1: But you would hope at the very least that that
- 42:33Speaker 1: could be what the legacy winds up being for him, though,
- 42:37Speaker 1: because there's not that much that you could ask for.
- 42:40Speaker 1: And he is a very good pocket passer. I think
- 42:42Speaker 1: it is very easy for people to try to dismiss that.
- 42:45Speaker 1: I think it is especially easy if you don't know
- 42:47Speaker 1: anything about college football. And what the offense that Cam
- 42:51Speaker 1: Newton was running at Auburn is not the Bobby Petrino offense.
- 42:54Speaker 1: That is not an that was not an offense built
- 42:57Speaker 1: around having a running quarterback. They had a quarterback who
- 43:00Speaker 1: could run, but he was still out there running the
- 43:02Speaker 1: Bobby Petrino offense. Now, of course, there's more left for
- 43:06Speaker 1: Lamar to do.
- 43:07Speaker 2: Right. There are he is going to make it to
- 43:10Speaker 2: the Hall of Fame.
- 43:11Speaker 3: Right.
- 43:11Speaker 1: I don't think he is a Hall of Famer necessarily
- 43:14Speaker 1: right now at this moment. But two time MVP, three
- 43:18Speaker 1: time first team All-Pro quarterback. I feel pretty confident that
- 43:21Speaker 1: he is going to go to the Hall of Fame.
- 43:26Speaker 1: Hall of Fame quarterbacks who did not make it to
- 43:29Speaker 1: the Super Bowl in the Super Bowl era. That's a
- 43:32Speaker 1: really short list. I got Dan Fouts and Warren Moon.
- 43:36Speaker 1: I don't have anybody else that I can think of
- 43:39Speaker 1: on that list, both of whom ran kind of supercharged
- 43:43Speaker 1: offenses for the day. And one could argue that the
- 43:47Speaker 1: schematics of the offense helped them get to the Hall
- 43:49Speaker 1: of Fame, but also help keep them out. They don't
- 43:51Speaker 1: blow that lead to Buffalo if they're not running for
- 43:54Speaker 1: our receivers every play, for example. But are they scoring
- 43:58Speaker 1: 35 points against Buffalo if they don't do those things? Right.
- 44:01Speaker 2: I say all that to say.
- 44:03Speaker 1: If you have played seven years, and I think that
- 44:06Speaker 1: puts Lamar at 27 or 28, still crazy young, and
- 44:10Speaker 1: you have the accolades that he has, then yeah, you're
- 44:15Speaker 1: that guy. And I don't think that we talk about
- 44:18Speaker 1: him really in those historic turns because we're still asking
- 44:21Speaker 1: the questions about the Ravens team's success on his watch. However,
- 44:27Speaker 1: he's earned the praise that he is getting from this list. Okay,
- 44:33Speaker 1: and now we have number 16. Wow, that.
- 44:40Speaker 2: Was a terrible drumming.
- 44:42Speaker 1: Let me try it again.
- 44:44Speaker 2: There we go. Aaron Rodgers. Now, again, are we sure
- 44:54Speaker 2: he's better than Tim Duncan? I don't know.
- 44:57Speaker 1: I also realize I may have meant to put a
- 44:59Speaker 1: different Aaron here, but we'll talk about that next show.
- 45:02Speaker 2: There's room to change. But anyway.
- 45:06Speaker 1: There are times where Aaron Rodgers has appeared to be
- 45:09Speaker 1: the best quarterback I.
- 45:09Speaker 2: Have ever seen.
- 45:11Speaker 1: There has never been a time that I have thought
- 45:13Speaker 1: Lamar Jackson was the best quarterback I have ever seen.
- 45:15Speaker 1: There's never been a time that I thought that Cam
- 45:17Speaker 1: Newton was the best quarterback that I have ever seen
- 45:20Speaker 1: just from watching him.
- 45:21Speaker 2: I will be honest with you.
- 45:23Speaker 1: There has never been a time that just from watching
- 45:25Speaker 1: him that I have thought Tom Brady was the best
- 45:28Speaker 1: quarterback I've ever seen. Like with Tom Brady, you got
- 45:30Speaker 1: to think about it and then you get to the conclusion.
- 45:32Speaker 1: But it's not like, wow, look at that. Aaron Rodgers
- 45:36Speaker 1: throwing a football has so much.
- 45:38Speaker 2: Oh, my God.
- 45:40Speaker 1: I can't.
- 45:41Speaker 3: Throws only at the time you thought only Aaron Rodgers
- 45:44Speaker 3: could make.
- 45:46Speaker 1: This sounds like a crazy thing maybe to say and
- 45:49Speaker 1: maybe not the most important thing to bring up. But
- 45:51Speaker 1: I do think it speaks to a degree of testament
- 45:53Speaker 1: to like what you get from the Aaron Rodgers world.
- 45:55Speaker 1: He is the best Hail Mary thrower I have ever seen.
- 45:58Speaker 1: He is the only person that I have seen throw
- 45:59Speaker 1: multiple Hail Marys that I believe he was truly throwing
- 46:02Speaker 1: it to a spot. And the spot was directly behind
- 46:07Speaker 1: all the defensive players that are going to try to
- 46:09Speaker 1: jump up and get the ball. And there will be
- 46:10Speaker 1: some guy just there to catch it. Like he's that dude.
- 46:15Speaker 1: He's also way more athletic than I think people really
- 46:18Speaker 1: gave him credit for.
- 46:20Speaker 2: Like the concern that I.
- 46:21Speaker 1: Had about where he would be after the Achilles is
- 46:24Speaker 1: It's because if Aaron Rodgers isn't really that athletic, then
- 46:29Speaker 1: you're not getting the same thing, right?
- 46:30Speaker 2: Athletic is not just simply about the ability to move.
- 46:33Speaker 1: It's about the ability to move and throw it while
- 46:35Speaker 1: you're moving, go in these crazy directions and everything else.
- 46:38Speaker 2: Now, yes, he has become....
- 46:42Speaker 3: Weirdo.
- 46:43Speaker 2: What a weirdo.
- 46:43Speaker 3: He's someone who's having a tough week, I can imagine.
- 46:47Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 46:48Speaker 3: Oh, yeah.
- 46:49Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 46:50Speaker 2: I mean, I imagine he might be canvassing.
- 46:52Speaker 1: He might be in the streets over to Epstein. Boy,
- 46:55Speaker 1: he might be out here sending letters. He might quit
- 46:57Speaker 1: his job to dedicate himself like.
- 46:59Speaker 2: It wasn't like my more.
- 47:01Speaker 1: He might, you know, another honorable mention, others receiving votes,
- 47:04Speaker 1: a person on this list.
- 47:06Speaker 3: Someone dedicated to a cause, their cause.
- 47:09Speaker 2: Got to get it done. Somebody's got to make it happen.
- 47:13Speaker 1: But I do think that ultimately Aaron Rodgers is going
- 47:18Speaker 1: to be.
- 47:19Speaker 2: Thought of for the Super Bowls. Not the Super Bowls
- 47:21Speaker 2: that he didn't win, but the Super Bowls he didn't
- 47:22Speaker 2: get to. Right.
- 47:24Speaker 1: Now, how much of that is his fault becomes an
- 47:27Speaker 1: interesting question. They've come close, like they had that year
- 47:30Speaker 1: against Seattle, where they want to say it's 2014, where
- 47:33Speaker 1: Seattle marched down the field at the end of the
- 47:34Speaker 1: game and got it done.
- 47:36Speaker 3: They went 16-0 for most of that game, and that
- 47:40Speaker 3: was one of the wildest comebacks. That was a Mike
- 47:44Speaker 3: McCarthy coaching disaster class.
- 47:46Speaker 2: Yes, in the toughest building in the league to play in. Right.
- 47:51Speaker 3: At that point.
- 47:51Speaker 1: Right. So like they had the year they went 15
- 47:53Speaker 1: and one. And then Eli Manning had that horseshoe up
- 47:57Speaker 1: his keister for a month again. Right.
- 48:00Speaker 2: And then he got there. So we're going to think
- 48:02Speaker 2: a lot, I believe.
- 48:04Speaker 1: Oh, my favorite factoid with Eric Rodgers is his real
- 48:08Speaker 1: nemesis is Colin Kaepernick.
- 48:10Speaker 2: Colin Kaepernick did it to that boy three times, twice
- 48:13Speaker 2: in the playoffs.
- 48:14Speaker 1: Just don't destroy it in Lambeau in the playoffs the
- 48:18Speaker 1: one year. and then two of them at Candlestick Park,
- 48:23Speaker 1: one to start the season in 2013, and then in
- 48:27Speaker 1: 2012 in the playoffs, he had something like 180 yards
- 48:30Speaker 1: before contact.
- 48:31Speaker 2: It was nuts the way that wound up going.
- 48:34Speaker 1: But I think because of all the other stuff with
- 48:38Speaker 1: Aaron Rodgers, yes, we think about the fact that Dan
- 48:41Speaker 1: Marino did not win a Super Bowl, but I think
- 48:44Speaker 1: that we primarily think of the greatness of Dan Marino as,
- 48:48Speaker 1: And then be like, well, damn, they did not win.
- 48:49Speaker 2: A Super Bowl.
- 48:51Speaker 1: I think because of the other stuff about Rodgers, it
- 48:54Speaker 1: is likely that we will think of it more in
- 48:55Speaker 1: the context again of why you didn't get it done.
- 49:01Speaker 1: And I think that will obscure what I think is
- 49:05Speaker 1: truly like his greatness. Like if you were and this
- 49:09Speaker 1: is where lists like this get to be tricky. If
- 49:12Speaker 1: you were to ask me who I thought was a better, okay,
- 49:16Speaker 1: so I'll dial this out. he says about eli manning
- 49:18Speaker 1: versus tony romo i don't think there's any question that
- 49:21Speaker 1: tony romo was a better quarterback than eli manning but
- 49:24Speaker 1: if i need to go win a playoff game there's
- 49:25Speaker 1: also pretty much no question which one of them i'm
- 49:28Speaker 1: going to take and it's not tony romo correct and
- 49:30Speaker 1: those are competing thoughts that aren't necessarily contradictory I think
- 49:35Speaker 1: Aaron Rodgers is a better player, a better athlete, da-da-da,
- 49:38Speaker 1: than Tom Brady.
- 49:39Speaker 2: But one of them got seven Super Bowl reigns, and
- 49:41Speaker 2: one of them got one.
- 49:42Speaker 1: Right.
- 49:42Speaker 3: And for the beginning of that career, we were able
- 49:45Speaker 3: to tie a lot of that to Mike McCarthy. But
- 49:47Speaker 3: Matt Spergis there, he wins two MVPs, and we still
- 49:50Speaker 3: see him in the same struggles with Aaron Rodgers in
- 49:52Speaker 3: the playoffs. So, you know, it's hard to remove.
- 49:58Speaker 1: But we're talking peak, and I'm going to pull up
- 50:01Speaker 1: some of these numbers here. So you can understand when
- 50:04Speaker 1: we say peak with Aaron Rodgers, and I say we're
- 50:07Speaker 1: really talking about like 2010 through about 2015, 2016 maybe,
- 50:14Speaker 1: the touchdown interceptions numbers, because the blessing and curse of
- 50:16Speaker 1: Aaron Rodgers is the low interception numbers, but also because
- 50:20Speaker 1: of a problematic level of risk aversion.
- 50:23Speaker 3: Didn't want to be Brett Favre.
- 50:24Speaker 1: Didn't want to make the mistake, and too much did
- 50:27Speaker 1: not want to make the mistake, but dude, 2011, 45 touchdowns,
- 50:28Speaker 1: six interceptions, 2012, 39, and eight. 2013, he was hurt
- 50:34Speaker 1: for much of the year.
