- 0:10Speaker 2: Great to have your company on a Monday. Coming up
- 0:12Speaker 2: on the show, more problems for Wellington Water this time
- 0:15Speaker 2: in Portizua, will head to the UK. More Starma drama, sport.
- 0:18Speaker 2: We've got Andrew with us and we're in San Frand
- 0:20Speaker 2: for the super Bowl. Plus more proof to my theory
- 0:25Speaker 2: that Epstein was a spy for the Russians. The agenda
- 0:33Speaker 2: its Monday, the ninth of February. Starma's chief of staff
- 0:37Speaker 2: is gone ski over the Mandelsson affair. He's the one
- 0:39Speaker 2: that recommended Mandelsson for the job which Starma then gave
- 0:43Speaker 2: him Starma's job.
- 0:44Speaker 3: Well, that could be next.
- 0:46Speaker 4: Everybody's thinking it and people just not saying it at
- 0:48Speaker 4: the moment. Unfortunately, we're seeing Andp's being wheeled out again
- 0:51Speaker 4: today to sweep up the mess behind the FIGN Minister
- 0:54Speaker 4: at the moment, and it seems that the FIG Minister
- 0:56Speaker 4: hasn't taken advice from elected people within his own government.
- 0:59Speaker 3: Being the UK Quarter two. Now take Ichi.
- 1:01Speaker 2: This is the Judith Collins of Japanese politics, winning by
- 1:05Speaker 2: a landslide in a gamble snap election midwinter.
- 1:08Speaker 1: If it ever was a gamble, it's paid off handsomely.
- 1:11Speaker 5: The LDP has been winning with like seventy and eighty
- 1:14Speaker 5: percent boat counting in single constituencies.
- 1:18Speaker 3: More detail on that soon.
- 1:20Speaker 2: Also Super Bowl Sunday and the US fans gearing up
- 1:22Speaker 2: to watch the New England Patriots take on the Seattle
- 1:25Speaker 2: Seahawks in San fran The Super Bowl.
- 1:28Speaker 5: It's all inclusive, okay, there's no hate.
- 1:30Speaker 3: It's just fun, excitement.
- 1:32Speaker 4: It has a Latin American you know.
- 1:34Speaker 6: It definitely means a light to us, you know, as
- 1:36Speaker 6: well as with US halftime show.
- 1:37Speaker 3: I think it's really cool, except for.
- 1:39Speaker 2: Our bad bunny at halftime that is causing some controversy.
- 1:42Speaker 3: We'll talk about that. Also.
- 1:43Speaker 2: People who say that, you know, millions will tune in
- 1:45Speaker 2: around the world the past three Super Bowls having been
- 1:49Speaker 2: the most watched US television broadcast since the nineteen sixty
- 1:54Speaker 2: nine moon landing.
- 1:55Speaker 3: Is that really true. We'll look at that this morning
- 1:57Speaker 3: as well.
- 1:58Speaker 1: Light After Five and Views you Trust to start your day.
- 2:02Speaker 1: It's early edition with Bryan Bridge and One Room Love
- 2:07Speaker 1: where you Live news talks.
- 2:08Speaker 3: I'd be nine. Two is the number text Trevor.
- 2:11Speaker 2: I will have that update you've requested via text on
- 2:14Speaker 2: their Wiwiker gorgeon just a few moments for you. First,
- 2:17Speaker 2: there are two reasons I reckon voters are going to
- 2:19Speaker 2: be put off Winston Peters. And I know you shouldn't
- 2:21Speaker 2: say that because he's the man of the moment and
- 2:23Speaker 2: everybody loves Winston. But there are two reasons I think
- 2:26Speaker 2: that by the time we get to the election that
- 2:28Speaker 2: people might be put off Winston Peters. Two reasons, not
- 2:32Speaker 2: necessarily that they will be, but that they could be.
- 2:35Speaker 2: One is the idea he might go with Labor. As
- 2:37Speaker 2: I've said from day one, I don't think he will,
- 2:40Speaker 2: but I also don't know that he won't. Can't trust
- 2:43Speaker 2: that he won't. Two, and this is more material, is
- 2:47Speaker 2: his actual politics, which are quite interventionist, aren't They Look
- 2:50Speaker 2: at the Growth Fund money he and Shane like to
- 2:52Speaker 2: splash around, splash the cash around the region, some of
- 2:55Speaker 2: it for all good cause, some of it not.
- 2:57Speaker 1: So.
- 2:58Speaker 2: They've told out hundreds of millions to businesses and other
- 3:01Speaker 2: projects under both Labor and national governments, and according to
- 3:04Speaker 2: The Herald this morning, more than half of Crown Regional
- 3:08Speaker 2: Holding's loan book. That's the company that deals with it.
- 3:11Speaker 2: More than four hundred million bucks worth considered at risk
- 3:15Speaker 2: of or is currently in default. Now, some of this
- 3:20Speaker 2: is long term stuff and you won't get the money
- 3:22Speaker 2: back straight away. And you can tell that by the
- 3:24Speaker 2: fact that just ten percent of about three hundred and
- 3:28Speaker 2: sixty odd million in Provincial Growth Fund money that was
- 3:32Speaker 2: loan since the start of Jacinda's term has so far
- 3:35Speaker 2: been paid back, just ten percent. Now, some of these
- 3:39Speaker 2: will be decent investments that I'm sure will pay off
- 3:42Speaker 2: over time, but many of them will not. And the
- 3:45Speaker 2: question is should political parties be picking economic winners? Are
- 3:51Speaker 2: they any good at it? This is not a day
- 3:54Speaker 2: at the races, for good essakes, This is big bucks.
- 3:56Speaker 2: It's our money that they're spending. Is this what we
- 3:58Speaker 2: think governments ought to be doing. Clearly lots of voters
- 4:02Speaker 2: do think so. The private sector hasn't exactly been jumping
- 4:05Speaker 2: in to refloat the economy. The banks cop it rightly
- 4:08Speaker 2: from farmers and rural folks for not stumping up with
- 4:11Speaker 2: the cash to invest. But that doesn't mean political parties
- 4:14Speaker 2: and states should do it. And then when they do
- 4:18Speaker 2: that they pick the winning thoroughbred pry and Bridge. Ten
- 4:22Speaker 2: minutes after five, we will get to San fran On
- 4:25Speaker 2: the super Bowl for the wire worker Gorge very quickly.
- 4:28Speaker 2: So George was asking this morning have you got the
- 4:30Speaker 2: information about the opening today? There are a number of
- 4:35Speaker 2: Gisban lawn bowlers apparently returning to Gisbon from lots to
- 4:39Speaker 2: do today and wonder which way to go home to
- 4:41Speaker 2: get there safely. Well, I can tell you that three
- 4:45Speaker 2: weeks of intensive work have led to a breakthrough and
- 4:48Speaker 2: they're going to be doing convoys. So the convoys will stip,
- 4:54Speaker 2: they'll do one from each side. There'll be three a day.
- 4:57Speaker 2: Can I tell you what time they are Trevor?
- 5:00Speaker 3: Is the question?
- 5:02Speaker 2: One second, Trevor, Here we go seven am. So the
- 5:05Speaker 2: Gisbin start point at the historic toteong A Bridge departs
- 5:08Speaker 2: promptly at the following time seven am, eleven am and
- 5:12Speaker 2: five pm. The Apotocky bound start point is in mutter
- 5:18Speaker 2: Y at Teweeder Road into the intersection, departing promptly at
- 5:23Speaker 2: the following times. And it's blank. So yes, I can
- 5:29Speaker 2: tell you the times. We'll do it when we get back, Trevor.
- 5:32Speaker 1: The News you need this morning and the in depth
- 5:34Speaker 1: analysis early edition with Ryan Bridge and One Route Love.
- 5:39Speaker 3: Where You Live, News Talks at b News Talks ad Be.
- 5:42Speaker 2: We'll get to the UK quarter to this morning with
- 5:45Speaker 2: Mike pars First for George, Sorry for Trevor about the
- 5:48Speaker 2: gorge while we could gorge. This is in near Gisbon,
- 5:50Speaker 2: so I can tell you that if you are going
- 5:52Speaker 2: from the Gussey side, the pilot vehicle will take you through.
- 5:56Speaker 3: Today on a guided tour if you will, to get
- 6:00Speaker 3: you through the broken gorge.
- 6:02Speaker 2: So if you're going from the Guzzy side, it's seven am,
- 6:04Speaker 2: eleven am and five pm. There'll be a pilot vehicle
- 6:07Speaker 2: at the start controlling the speed. If you're going from
- 6:09Speaker 2: the Portucky side, this is the side you care about.
- 6:13Speaker 2: Trevor nine am, one pm and seven pm today Bryan Bridge.
- 6:19Speaker 2: Fourteen after five Super Bowl Sunday in the US, the
- 6:22Speaker 2: New England Patriots taking on the Seattle Seahawks twelve thirty
- 6:26Speaker 2: pm our time at Levi Stadium and Bad Bunny is
- 6:30Speaker 2: the halftime show performing. We've spoken about him a few
- 6:32Speaker 2: times already. Ben Harlem is cyrus XM radio host at
- 6:35Speaker 2: the Super Bowl.
- 6:37Speaker 3: He's going to be there today, Ben, Welcome to the show.
- 6:41Speaker 7: Hi mate, how are you yah?
- 6:42Speaker 3: Really good? Thank you?
- 6:43Speaker 7: So?
- 6:43Speaker 3: How is she looking?
- 6:45Speaker 7: Yeah, pretty good. I've been practicing my Spanish to try
- 6:48Speaker 7: and understand bad Bunny. The hype is real. There's a
- 6:50Speaker 7: lot of people that are driven down from Seattle down
- 6:52Speaker 7: here to San Francisco, so they're very excited to see
- 6:56Speaker 7: a win.
- 6:57Speaker 3: It's going to be a good game. Is there an
- 6:58Speaker 3: obvious favorite?
- 7:01Speaker 4: Yes.
- 7:01Speaker 7: Seattle has been the best team this season, so they're
- 7:05Speaker 7: about like a five points favorite at the moment. It
- 7:08Speaker 7: seems like a lot of the money and the gambling
- 7:09Speaker 7: is going towards them. But we've seen with the Patriots
- 7:12Speaker 7: and when Tom Brady used to play with them over
- 7:14Speaker 7: the past ten or three years that they always can
- 7:17Speaker 7: pull off these miraculous victories. So they're going to see
- 7:19Speaker 7: if they can do it again with a whole different
- 7:21Speaker 7: team this time now.
- 7:22Speaker 2: Last year it was all about Taylor and Travis Kelsey.
- 7:26Speaker 2: Is there still as much excitement around it this year.
- 7:30Speaker 7: There's been a real lot of celebrities around this year
- 7:33Speaker 7: in the lead up. Noah Kahan, who's an up and
- 7:36Speaker 7: coming singer that's making big waves in the music industry
- 7:40Speaker 7: was doing concerts. Olivia Dean that I know has taken
- 7:42Speaker 7: New Zealand by storm, was doing a bunch of concerts.
- 7:45Speaker 7: Green Day has been added to the pre match entertainment.
- 7:48Speaker 7: The equivalent in terms of Taylor is probably Cardi b
- 7:50Speaker 7: who is dating Stefan Diggs from the Patriots, so she
- 7:53Speaker 7: is going to be the one that the camera is
- 7:55Speaker 7: going to be focusing on on all the big plays
- 7:57Speaker 7: for the Patriots as the Taylor equivalent this year.
- 8:00Speaker 3: Where will you be watching it from? Ben?
- 8:03Speaker 7: I'm lucky enough to go to the game, which is
- 8:05Speaker 7: very excited you are. I am in the Yeah, I'm
- 8:08Speaker 7: in the nosebleeds, so don't get too jealous. So I
- 8:10Speaker 7: will have the binoculars out. But it will be a
- 8:12Speaker 7: great atmosphere, brilliant.
- 8:13Speaker 2: Look forward to it. Ben, appreciate your time this morning.
- 8:16Speaker 2: Ben Harlem, who's Cyrus XM radio host with us. He'll
- 8:19Speaker 2: be there at twelve thirty pm our time, just gone
- 8:21Speaker 2: sixteen minutes after five. Now it's they claim the most
- 8:26Speaker 2: watched television event, well the last three they say them
- 8:30Speaker 2: being the most watched television events in the world since
- 8:33Speaker 2: the moon landing.
- 8:34Speaker 3: You know I'm thinking is that.
- 8:36Speaker 2: So this morning had a quick look because is that
- 8:38Speaker 2: based on, you know, as a percentage of the world's population,
- 8:42Speaker 2: because obviously there are more of us now and we
- 8:44Speaker 2: have more TVs.
- 8:46Speaker 3: Is it just eyeballs?
- 8:47Speaker 2: They don't really clarify, but I had a look at
- 8:49Speaker 2: some of the most watched global TV events by population percentage.
- 8:56Speaker 2: So here is apparently your top five. Paris Summer Olympics
- 9:01Speaker 2: twenty four they reckon five billion or eighty four percent
- 9:05Speaker 2: of the population of the world. Now that's not just
- 9:08Speaker 2: in TV though, that's also on your smartphones. Are Beijing
- 9:13Speaker 2: Summer Olympics two thousand and eight four point seven billion
- 9:16Speaker 2: seventy percent the fee for World Cup. This is in
- 9:19Speaker 2: cut out twenty twenty two, five billion sixty three percent.
- 9:23Speaker 2: Live Aid nineteen eighty five that was one and a
- 9:26Speaker 2: half to one point nine billion, forty percent. So basically,
- 9:31Speaker 2: if you're at the Olympics, or you're playing football, or
- 9:35Speaker 2: you happened to have a very popular charity concert in
- 9:38Speaker 2: nineteen eighty five, all land on the moon, you're doing well.
- 9:42Speaker 2: Eighteen after five News Talks ZB Andrew Here next.
- 9:46Speaker 1: The first Word on the News of the Day Early
- 9:49Speaker 1: edition with Ryan Bridge and one roote love where you Live,
- 9:53Speaker 1: News talks'.
- 9:54Speaker 2: B news TALKSZB it is five twenty, so more evidence
- 9:58Speaker 2: adding to the cash of evidence, the weight of evidence
- 10:01Speaker 2: that suggests that Epstein was actually just a spy. This
- 10:05Speaker 2: is my theory anyway. But the question is I was
- 10:07Speaker 2: debating with a friend of the weekend. Was his spy
- 10:09Speaker 2: for the Russians or was he spy for Mosshead? Because
- 10:11Speaker 2: those are basically your options, aren't they. So he was
- 10:14Speaker 2: a meeting, this has come from CNN this morning, was
- 10:17Speaker 2: meeting as part of his emails, meeting a lot with
- 10:21Speaker 2: the guy Cherkin, who was the Russian ambassador to the
- 10:24Speaker 2: United Nations, so was based in New York. So he
- 10:27Speaker 2: and Epstein spent a lot of time together in New York.
- 10:31Speaker 2: And there's a lot of emails going back and forth
- 10:33Speaker 2: between them. And what he tried Epstein tries to do
- 10:37Speaker 2: is get in touch with Lavrov foreign minister, and also
- 10:40Speaker 2: try to get in touch with Putin through Churkin. Now
- 10:43Speaker 2: Churkin dies suddenly, you wonder, why don't you when the
- 10:48Speaker 2: Russians are involved? But he dies suddenly, and then he
- 10:51Speaker 2: goes around him and tries to get to the higher
- 10:53Speaker 2: ups now he gives information because yes he's a fixer,
- 10:56Speaker 2: he gets the girls whatever, that's what's alleged. But also
- 11:00Speaker 2: so he sort of spills the beans on other wealthy people,
- 11:03Speaker 2: on other influential people, on other politicians and people of
- 11:07Speaker 2: power and influence. And so he was telling this Russian
- 11:11Speaker 2: ambassador a whole bunch of stuff. Now what the fine
- 11:16Speaker 2: a spy?
- 11:17Speaker 3: You know? The fine at Spy five.
- 11:21Speaker 2: Bridge, rich Andrew Orison is he's been watching the lot
- 11:24Speaker 2: of spyte not a spy, confirm that, but you do
- 11:27Speaker 2: share a lot of information about sport with us. Let's
- 11:30Speaker 2: start with the Olympics, the Winter Olympics, and he's in
- 11:32Speaker 2: n as An action today.
- 11:34Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, I haven't got quite the treasure trove of
- 11:36Speaker 6: Epstein filest for you, but we've got Lucia George Arli,
- 11:40Speaker 6: and we've also got Zoey Sadowski Cynet of course, the
- 11:42Speaker 6: Olympic champion. They're in the snowboard big Air. They're going
- 11:46Speaker 6: to be qualifying today, So that's going to be I
- 11:48Speaker 6: guess the New Zealand element to it. I guess from
- 11:51Speaker 6: a well perspective. Lindsey Vaughn crashing out of the downhill
- 11:55Speaker 6: of course I found that absolutely. I was in disbelief
- 11:58Speaker 6: that she was going to compete having been ruptured, not
- 12:01Speaker 6: on compare myself to Linday Vonn, but having rupted the
- 12:03Speaker 6: left acl that just nine days ago she was going
- 12:06Speaker 6: to be in that downhill so apparently lasted just over
- 12:07Speaker 6: ten seconds and then she was airlifted off in excruciating pain.
- 12:12Speaker 3: And the other knee was completely rebuilt. Anyway, what she's
- 12:16Speaker 3: been through.
- 12:17Speaker 6: The Ringer really forty one years old, Yeah, I mean,
- 12:20Speaker 6: incredible career though, Lindsey Vonn. I mean, and I had
- 12:23Speaker 6: the pleasure of actually watching it, going to Vancouver in
- 12:25Speaker 6: twenty ten and seeing her in the downhill, and yeah,
- 12:28Speaker 6: she was the business. So I mean, they just go
- 12:32Speaker 6: at incomprehensible speeds, right, I'd say, you're down those slopes.
- 12:35Speaker 3: Not the great speed for their knee.
- 12:37Speaker 6: Nice, No, it would be excruciating.
- 12:41Speaker 3: Now the Black Cats, how's that looking.
- 12:43Speaker 6: I think they've done incredibly well. Actually they've chased it's
- 12:46Speaker 6: their highest chase at a T twenty World Cup one
- 12:48Speaker 6: eighty three against Afghanistan, of course, nemesis from last World
- 12:52Speaker 6: Cup in the Caribbean, Afghanistan winning that in twenty twenty
- 12:55Speaker 6: four New Zealand. That's the key match to win and
- 12:58Speaker 6: what could be a tricky pool. They've got some afrige
- 13:00Speaker 6: there as well. Only two teams out of the five
- 13:02Speaker 6: to go through. New Zealand also got matches against Canada
- 13:05Speaker 6: and the UAE to come. They should win those, but
- 13:09Speaker 6: a really measured chase after losing a couple of wickets early.
- 13:13Speaker 6: And yeah, they're just all contributed there in the middle
- 13:16Speaker 6: and lower order. In Tim Seifet leaving the way as
- 13:18Speaker 6: an opener sixty five from forty two.
- 13:20Speaker 2: Deliveries brilliant and your thoughts, I mean, on a scale
- 13:23Speaker 2: of one to ten, Andrew, how excited for the Super
- 13:25Speaker 2: Bowl are you?
- 13:26Speaker 6: I'm about a seven. I do get excited for the
- 13:28Speaker 6: Super Bowl. I think it's a one off event. It's
- 13:30Speaker 6: more the whole extravaganza. For me, it's just the spectacular,
- 13:34Speaker 6: you know, hot dogs, burgers, whatever. Bunny and yeah, he'll
- 13:38Speaker 6: hop on stage, no doubt at half time and give
- 13:40Speaker 6: us a good show. I'm not too familiar with the
- 13:44Speaker 6: the I guess the trove of material of Bad Bunny,
- 13:46Speaker 6: but we'll find out as it goes on.
- 13:50Speaker 3: Yeah, I thought you might be a bit more up
- 13:51Speaker 3: with it. Not even McKenzie knows much about it. We're
- 13:57Speaker 3: like three different generations.
- 13:59Speaker 6: He's I'm edited to nail a Hispanic community as in
- 14:02Speaker 6: California and things that it should be and and what
- 14:04Speaker 6: is it a green Day performing as well at some
- 14:06Speaker 6: stage there.
- 14:07Speaker 3: Yeah, brilliant, Yeah, American idiot.
- 14:09Speaker 6: It'll be intriguing see how they go with that one.
- 14:12Speaker 3: Andrew always appreciate you. Roll this morning.
- 14:15Speaker 2: It is twenty four minutes after five. Actually I've got
- 14:17Speaker 2: a little story to tell you. I might do it
- 14:19Speaker 2: after when we come back, or talk about interest rates,
- 14:21Speaker 2: which will be you know what it will be. And
- 14:23Speaker 2: then after that we'll talk about what was her name,
- 14:26Speaker 2: Kenzy that did the speech at the Grammys the other day,
- 14:31Speaker 2: Billie Eilish. Billie Eilish did a speech at the Grammys
- 14:34Speaker 2: the other day which riled half of America up. And
- 14:38Speaker 2: now the Native Americans who she thought she was supporting,
- 14:42Speaker 2: well they've come out kind of against it all.
- 14:45Speaker 3: The head News TALKSB.
- 14:46Speaker 1: The early edition full the show podcast on iHeartRadio Power
- 14:50Speaker 1: by News.
- 14:51Speaker 2: Talks AB News Talks in B. It is five twenty seven.
- 14:55Speaker 2: I was having a good old debate with a mate
- 14:57Speaker 2: at the weekend about interest rates, because we're both at
- 14:59Speaker 2: the age where mortgages are unfortunately a thing in Auckland,
- 15:02Speaker 2: quite a big and annoying thing. Now, this made of
- 15:05Speaker 2: mine knows a bit more about the stuff than I do.
- 15:07Speaker 2: Watches the markets very closely for his job, and he's
- 15:10Speaker 2: worried about the middle of the year. Potentially this recovery,
- 15:14Speaker 2: that's what we're going to officially call it, yet coming
- 15:17Speaker 2: to a bit of a standstill or an abrupt holt.
- 15:20Speaker 2: We've spoken before about elections putting the kai bosh on growth,
- 15:24Speaker 2: but people hold back weak to see what happens. We've
- 15:26Speaker 2: spoken about Bill English's comments about our recovery, unlike across
- 15:30Speaker 2: the Ditch coming in spite of a rebound in house prices.
- 15:35Speaker 2: In Australia, everything's hot, the weather, house prices, inflation, growth, employment,
- 15:41Speaker 2: everything's just hot, hot, hot. It's lightly on a different
- 15:44Speaker 2: hemisphere to us. There was a good podcast talking about
- 15:47Speaker 2: some of this of interest. It's called with the Westpac Economists. Now,
- 15:50Speaker 2: the RBA's rate is now three point eight five percent
- 15:53Speaker 2: ours two point twenty five. It's been about fifteen years
- 15:58Speaker 2: since there has been such a mass gap between the
- 16:01Speaker 2: two of them. We usually cycle closer together most of
- 16:04Speaker 2: the time, but we've drifted apart to the point where
- 16:07Speaker 2: one is so far over the hill we actually can't
- 16:09Speaker 2: see each other anymore. This is all by design, of course.
- 16:13Speaker 2: We have been way more aggressive engineered the recession to
- 16:16Speaker 2: crash inflation. They went a lot softer to take into
- 16:20Speaker 2: account employment. They have a dual mandate. The Coalition got
- 16:24Speaker 2: rid of ours. The Aussies are our upping rates again
- 16:27Speaker 2: because their inflation is taking off again. Ours has a
- 16:31Speaker 2: mild case of fever, but nothing like their is sitting
- 16:33Speaker 2: at nearly four percent.
- 16:35Speaker 3: Now.
- 16:35Speaker 2: The question anyone thinking about this stuff with a mortgage
- 16:39Speaker 2: is asking themselves is this, would you swallow a bit
- 16:43Speaker 2: of inflation to have an economy that's actually firing? In
- 16:47Speaker 2: other words, in future, would you rather this was handled
- 16:50Speaker 2: the Aussie way or the Kiwi way? And crucially, can
- 16:55Speaker 2: our economy kick back in together without its usual rocket
- 16:59Speaker 2: fuel runaway house prices? Ryan Bridge twenty nine minutes after
- 17:04Speaker 2: five news talks, there be now very quickly, here's Billy
- 17:06Speaker 2: Earlish at the Grammys talking about the You know, illegally.
- 17:11Speaker 8: No one is illegal on stolen land.
- 17:13Speaker 2: Stolen land, right, so people went and searched where does
- 17:16Speaker 2: Billy Arlish live. Turns out her LA mansion is on
- 17:20Speaker 2: stolen indigenous land.
- 17:25Speaker 3: That was a pretty stupid thing to say, wasn't it.
- 17:28Speaker 3: She's not leaving the land, by the way. New Talks b.

- 17:55Speaker 2: Hey, Good morning, twenty four minutes away from six on
- 17:58Speaker 2: your Monday. Coming up before Sex, we'll talk Wellington water.
- 18:01Speaker 2: It's not Wellington that that's problem now, though it's putty
- 18:03Speaker 2: to it. Also from Beyond the Grave Epstein claiming more scalps.
- 18:08Speaker 2: This time it is Starmer's chief of staff resigning over it.
- 18:12Speaker 2: Links to Epstein through Mandelso notions say, we'll have more
- 18:16Speaker 2: on that from our UK Corey. That's coming up at
- 18:17Speaker 2: quarter two this morning, and our reporter's obviously standing by,
- 18:20Speaker 2: but very quickly.
- 18:21Speaker 3: You know. I like talking about taka Ichi.
- 18:23Speaker 2: This is the Japanese Prime minister, very very smart woman,
- 18:26Speaker 2: very smart politician. I call her the Judith Collins of
- 18:31Speaker 2: Japanese politics because she sort of represents the same things
- 18:35Speaker 2: been around there. A long time conservative of the party
- 18:38Speaker 2: in a conservative party, who is straight talking, straight shooting.
- 18:43Speaker 2: She's a China Hawk and doesn't take any prisoners. Plays
- 18:47Speaker 2: the drums. If you haven't seen, you know you don't
- 18:49Speaker 2: much watch much Japanese politics, you would have surely seen
- 18:53Speaker 2: her playing the drums. She's a fan of hard metal.
- 18:58Speaker 2: So what she did was take a punt.
- 19:00Speaker 3: She came in and she.
- 19:02Speaker 2: Goes right, got herself to the leadership and goes right,
- 19:05Speaker 2: I am going to call a snap election middle of winter,
- 19:08Speaker 2: snow is falling. You don't do that three months into
- 19:11Speaker 2: the job, calls a snap election. Brilliant decision. She just
- 19:15Speaker 2: goes bam straight into it, and people love her, and
- 19:18Speaker 2: people love it, and they love the direction. She's winning
- 19:21Speaker 2: by a landslide this morning, winning so handsomely. That two
- 19:26Speaker 2: thirds majority is what she's winning right now in the
- 19:29Speaker 2: Lower House, giving her an overwhelming control of the Chamber
- 19:32Speaker 2: and the ability to overall the smaller Upper House to
- 19:35Speaker 2: push through her agenda. So great, congratulations, Tucker. She's so far,
- 19:39Speaker 2: so good. What's more interesting is the LDP, that's her
- 19:43Speaker 2: party alone, is winning a majority now. They haven't won
- 19:48Speaker 2: a majority in more than a decade of politics. They've
- 19:51Speaker 2: had to do coalition deals, so they will still do one,
- 19:54Speaker 2: but they may not need to, which is fascinating after
- 19:58Speaker 2: just three months in office. Look at what a bit
- 20:00Speaker 2: of gumption, a bit of I suppose it's risk take
- 20:05Speaker 2: link risk taking and gambling can do well, it can
- 20:08Speaker 2: pay off two twenty two to six. Let's go to
- 20:11Speaker 2: Callum and duned and Callum, good morning morning. Right now
- 20:14Speaker 2: you've got to form a mayor throwing his hat in
- 20:16Speaker 2: the ring for this by election.
- 20:18Speaker 9: Yeah, this is Aaron Hawkins. So he's confirmed that he
- 20:21Speaker 9: will contest the seat left faken by Jiles Raddick, who
- 20:24Speaker 9: died unexpectedly in January. Hawkins served nine years on the
- 20:28Speaker 9: Denedon City Council, that was from twenty thirteen to twenty two.
- 20:32Speaker 9: Three of those were as mayor before losing out to Radick.
- 20:35Speaker 9: So Hawkins says he's standing this time to provide strong
- 20:38Speaker 9: leadership and pushback against the government's rates capping proposals and
- 20:43Speaker 9: regional reorganization reforms. And Aaron Hawkins joins former city councilors
- 20:48Speaker 9: Bell Ackland and Conrad Steadman in the race for this
- 20:51Speaker 9: by election.
- 20:52Speaker 3: Goodness me right, how's your weather? It's fine today? Some
- 20:55Speaker 3: evening cloud in eighteen. Nice one. Thanks Callum Claire and
- 20:58Speaker 3: christ take Claire clear.
- 21:02Speaker 2: Good morning Rounli like you not to be there. You're
- 21:05Speaker 2: always on time and ready to go now. Confidence teething
- 21:08Speaker 2: issues that this new metro sports seemed to have been
- 21:11Speaker 2: ironed out.
- 21:12Speaker 8: Yes, well, a confidence from the mayor. At least we
- 21:15Speaker 8: know that more than one hundred and sixty incidents were
- 21:17Speaker 8: reported at Pardo Ky all day in its first month.
- 21:19Speaker 8: Thirty three of those incidents involved at the very popular hydraslides.
- 21:24Speaker 8: Mayor film Major tells us that he himself experienced some
- 21:27Speaker 8: difficulty when he was trying the trap door slide. He
- 21:31Speaker 8: says there was not enough water for him moving down
- 21:34Speaker 8: the pipe, but staff have since increased the water flow.
- 21:38Speaker 8: There's also been incidents with the car parking. About two
- 21:41Speaker 8: thousand people copped some tickets. Basically they hadn't put their
- 21:44Speaker 8: car regio into the machine despite being eligible for free parking.
- 21:48Speaker 8: The mayor says, look, the parking terms were not well signposted.
- 21:51Speaker 8: Council has waived the tickets for those people that did
- 21:54Speaker 8: have a good excuse, and new signage is also being installed.
- 21:58Speaker 8: He says that otherwise the feedback on the so that
- 22:00Speaker 8: he has been largely positive despite these teething problems.
- 22:04Speaker 3: So Phil tried to get in a hydroslide and got stuck.
- 22:06Speaker 10: Got a bit stuck here, not enough water, So.
- 22:09Speaker 3: How did he get out? Did they have to increase
- 22:12Speaker 3: that wiley the pace Wiley was in there.
- 22:14Speaker 8: I'll get an investigative reporter onto that today for you.
- 22:17Speaker 3: Maybe there's some footage, some video footage of it that
- 22:19Speaker 3: would be That would be fantastic site. Yeah, how's your
- 22:22Speaker 3: weather cloudy?
- 22:24Speaker 8: There is the chance of a shower a bit later.
- 22:26Speaker 8: Easterly is developing this afternoon in twenty one.
- 22:28Speaker 2: All right, thank you, Maxim mantin Hay, Max, there's still
- 22:31Speaker 2: questions about the sewage lake.
- 22:33Speaker 11: Yeah, this is a we're talking about the more point one.
- 22:36Speaker 11: It was just a stunning white hagy weekend in Wellington
- 22:39Speaker 11: here and no one on the beaches, the smell of
- 22:41Speaker 11: sewage wafting around the airport parts of the coast. We
- 22:44Speaker 11: have been told you likely won't be able to go
- 22:46Speaker 11: into the water for months and we might need some
- 22:48Speaker 11: money to pay for it as well. The council's already
- 22:51Speaker 11: in debt. We've got Meytor Andrew Little speaking with the
- 22:53Speaker 11: Prime Minister. Today they're still cleaning the plant. This week,
- 22:57Speaker 11: untreated sewage was being sent out in the tens of
- 22:59Speaker 11: millions of literas every day. Now it's screened wastewater, so
- 23:04Speaker 11: not wipes, not sanitary products, that sort of thing. We're
- 23:07Speaker 11: still trying to figure out how to stop the rot
- 23:09Speaker 11: at more point, and also what the hell went wrong.
- 23:12Speaker 11: There were already calls from an independent inquiry, although I'm
- 23:16Speaker 11: not sure we need an inquiry to tell us just
- 23:18Speaker 11: how much of a shambles Wellington Water has been run
- 23:20Speaker 11: in the past few years, but I'm sure it would
- 23:22Speaker 11: tell us the exact same thing again.
- 23:24Speaker 2: You know, I had the most incredible interview on Thursday
- 23:27Speaker 2: with the head of Wellington Water. I just couldn't believe
- 23:30Speaker 2: the woods. I mean, it was very honest actually about
- 23:34Speaker 2: just how bad it is and how the entire control room,
- 23:38Speaker 2: all the electronics covered in water and faces right now.
- 23:43Speaker 11: Well, I think he's probably he's probably not been there
- 23:45Speaker 11: long enough that you could blame this on him. It's
- 23:47Speaker 11: definitely a long running issue and he's trying to figure
- 23:50Speaker 11: it out.
- 23:51Speaker 3: How's your winner?
- 23:52Speaker 11: Yeah, fine, Like Wednesday afternoon Sea Breeze is twenty two.
- 23:55Speaker 2: Nice one, Thank you morning, never good morning, Yeah.
- 24:01Speaker 3: You're here has been pulled back.
- 24:05Speaker 10: I can see your foreheaded years.
- 24:06Speaker 3: I could down like that and that covers all. Oh no,
- 24:09Speaker 3: now what's going on?
- 24:10Speaker 2: Funger pa Or it's not Funger Plaur Actually no it's not.
- 24:13Speaker 10: But Funger Poa isn't the only community complaining about all
- 24:18Speaker 10: the successes stripping from their rock pol So the Protect
- 24:21Speaker 10: pi har Rock Pools Group now that's been set up.
- 24:24Speaker 10: It's a campaign against major harvesting from the West Auckland Beach,
- 24:28Speaker 10: Oceans and Fisheries Minister Shane Jones. He's been taking advice
- 24:32Speaker 10: on protecting Funger Parola and Protect Pihart Rock Pools Group
- 24:36Speaker 10: spokesperson that's Luella Bartlet, says, Look, it's not just pih
- 24:40Speaker 10: who are worried. It's not just that community, she says,
- 24:42Speaker 10: is also concern from areas up and down the coast
- 24:45Speaker 10: site who you called Wallace and Wouldawai as well.
- 24:49Speaker 3: All right, so that happening everywhere by the sounds of it.
- 24:51Speaker 3: How's that weather really?
- 24:52Speaker 11: Morning?
- 24:53Speaker 7: Cloud?
- 24:53Speaker 10: Then mainly fine? Twenty seven is the high today?
- 24:56Speaker 3: Well?
- 24:57Speaker 2: Shoot, that is fine, thanks Neva. Seventeen minutes away from six.
- 25:00Speaker 2: We'll get to the UK Next News Talk SeeDB News
- 25:03Speaker 2: Talk Sea B. It is fourteen minutes away from six.
- 25:05Speaker 2: Somebody says the Japanese Prime minister. You've just been talking
- 25:08Speaker 2: about what is her agenda?
- 25:10Speaker 3: Now that she's.
- 25:10Speaker 2: Winning a landslide victory over there after a snap election.
- 25:13Speaker 2: Gamble has paid off for her. While the agenda is
- 25:16Speaker 2: quite simple, fix the economy, she's actually going to be
- 25:18Speaker 2: spending quite a bit of money there. Fix the economy,
- 25:22Speaker 2: cozy up to the US. She's a China hawk, so
- 25:25Speaker 2: she'll be doing a bit of that and money out
- 25:28Speaker 2: the door on defense, Defense, Defense fourteen to two.
- 25:33Speaker 1: International correspondence with ends and eye insurance. Peace of mind
- 25:37Speaker 1: for New Zealand business.
- 25:39Speaker 2: Another development in the Epstein saga and Mandelssohn Over in
- 25:42Speaker 2: the UK, McSweeney, this is a star That's chief of
- 25:46Speaker 2: staff has resigned, joining us as Mike Pearson now UK
- 25:49Speaker 2: Europe Correspondent Mike the latest.
- 25:52Speaker 5: Yes, indeed, and this is going to be for secure Starmer.
- 25:55Speaker 5: He's facing the most challenging week of his leadership so far.
- 25:57Speaker 5: There are calls for his resignation of possible voter no
- 26:00Speaker 5: confidence also coming as well. Now, all this follows the
- 26:03Speaker 5: admission that he gave Lord mandelssroon the job of UK
- 26:05Speaker 5: ambassador to the United States. That was in spite of
- 26:08Speaker 5: knowing that he had a relationship with Jeffrey Epstein. Now
- 26:12Speaker 5: in that breaking news in the last couple of hours,
- 26:15Speaker 5: morgam at Sweeney is his name. He's Starmer's chief of
- 26:17Speaker 5: staff has resigned. He's an affect his right hand man.
- 26:20Speaker 5: He says he takes full responsibility for advising the Prime
- 26:23Speaker 5: Minister to appoint Mandelsson's as a US ambassador last year,
- 26:26Speaker 5: a decision he now says is wrong. He says it's
- 26:29Speaker 5: damaged the ruling Labor Party, the country and trust in politics.
- 26:33Speaker 5: The story here is exploding, I can tell you now
- 26:35Speaker 5: it comes as a new pol Reville. Starmer has the
- 26:38Speaker 5: support of fewer than one in five people in the country.
- 26:41Speaker 5: Now even some of his own MP's are now saying
- 26:43Speaker 5: it's only a matter of time before he pays the price.
- 26:47Speaker 2: Now Rayner, who was former deputy now beckbin to she's
- 26:51Speaker 2: sort of saying I didn't think mandelsh was a good idea,
- 26:54Speaker 2: and Lemmy also saying that as well. So do you
- 26:56Speaker 2: think Stalmer's day is a number or Kenny survived something
- 26:59Speaker 2: like this by umping mcswainey.
- 27:01Speaker 5: Well, you know, we've got a whole load of documents.
- 27:04Speaker 5: Last week the government has said it would release a
- 27:06Speaker 5: whole load of documents that would sort of say one
- 27:08Speaker 5: more or the other, who said what and whatever. I
- 27:11Speaker 5: think the real challenge at the moment is there's not
- 27:13Speaker 5: another leader in waiting. That will be a quite a
- 27:16Speaker 5: long process. But you know, we do expect that potentially
- 27:19Speaker 5: there will be a challenge. This is Dorris is not
- 27:21Speaker 5: going to go away. It's in the news. Mandelson's home
- 27:24Speaker 5: was sort of raided on Friday last week with big
- 27:27Speaker 5: boxes taken away. This story is so big here that
- 27:30Speaker 5: there is some doubt as to just how long Starmer
- 27:34Speaker 5: can stay. And if the opposition parties call a vod
- 27:38Speaker 5: of no confidence, would some of the labor MPs actually
- 27:41Speaker 5: vote with them, because some of them actually have come out,
- 27:43Speaker 5: you know, both privately and public to say that they
- 27:45Speaker 5: don't think Starmer's really is doing a great job here.
- 27:48Speaker 5: So it's a bit of a wait and see. But
- 27:50Speaker 5: you can't rule anything.
- 27:51Speaker 3: Up all right, Mike.
- 27:52Speaker 2: We've covered the good of the Olympics this morning earlier
- 27:54Speaker 2: on but you've got the bear in the Agli Yeah.
- 27:57Speaker 3: I'm afraid.
- 27:58Speaker 5: There have been some ugly scenes as riot police clashed
- 28:01Speaker 5: with demonstrators. Police use tear gas and water can in
- 28:04Speaker 5: the land to end that protest. A number of arrests
- 28:06Speaker 5: were made. Now. It came as around ten thousand people
- 28:09Speaker 5: protested overclaims the games were damaging the environment and concerns
- 28:13Speaker 5: over the cost of living. Some released fireworks and through
- 28:16Speaker 5: stones at police as well. Meanwhile, officials are basically investigating
- 28:22Speaker 5: sabotage on Italy's railway network, halting key lines. Now this
- 28:26Speaker 5: led to people unable to get to the games on time.
- 28:29Speaker 5: Cables would cut. An investigation into that is underway, and
- 28:32Speaker 5: in another development, yet another appeal to stop spectators booing
- 28:37Speaker 5: the American athletes has been made for a second time.
- 28:40Speaker 5: The appeal was ignored at the opening ceremony. I don't
- 28:43Speaker 5: think we quite heard it because of the microphones being
- 28:45Speaker 5: close up to the action, but definitely did happen. Of course,
- 28:49Speaker 5: that's over the use of ice immigration officers sent over
- 28:52Speaker 5: to help to protect those from the United States taking part.
- 28:55Speaker 5: So you know, some good news from the mails in
- 28:57Speaker 5: picking in terms of what the athletes are doing, but
- 28:59Speaker 5: on the air some ugly scenes as well, so not
- 29:02Speaker 5: particularly good if you're in the.
- 29:03Speaker 3: Lane, appreciate that. Mike psa UK europe correspondent.
- 29:06Speaker 2: I'm not quite sure how if you are protesting about
- 29:10Speaker 2: its effect on the environment, how firing off fireworks and
- 29:13Speaker 2: stopping public transport is.
- 29:15Speaker 3: Going to help you cause. But there you go. It
- 29:17Speaker 3: does tend to six rain Bridge the smell.
- 29:20Speaker 2: From the sewage and Wellington could be about to get
- 29:22Speaker 2: a whole lot worse now. Wellington Water is battling a
- 29:24Speaker 2: new sewage over fly, apparently in potty to it. Anita
- 29:27Speaker 2: Baker is the potty to a mayor joining us this
- 29:29Speaker 2: morning and eat a good morning.
- 29:30Speaker 3: What's going on there?
- 29:32Speaker 12: Good morning, Ryan. It was a very minor discharge for
- 29:35Speaker 12: a manhold and the pumps backing up and going off sequence.
- 29:40Speaker 12: So they reset the pumps and it's all back to
- 29:43Speaker 12: normal and there was very little overflow, so heaven had
- 29:46Speaker 12: to do anything else. They've put some safeguards in place
- 29:51Speaker 12: around the pump in case there's there is, but at
- 29:55Speaker 12: the moment it's all running perfect normal.
- 29:57Speaker 3: Okay.
- 29:57Speaker 2: Now does the fact that Wellington's have having a crap
- 30:01Speaker 2: of a time at the moment with mile point does
- 30:04Speaker 2: that affect you guys now that everybody's all joined up
- 30:06Speaker 2: or going to be joined.
- 30:07Speaker 3: Up with water?
- 30:10Speaker 12: Well in the long run, taki why takes over all
- 30:12Speaker 12: of the infrastructure because we will move over in July,
- 30:16Speaker 12: and it just proves that we're all underinvested for a
- 30:19Speaker 12: very very long time. So I'm sure we'll see more
- 30:22Speaker 12: of these sort of sort of things happening. You know,
- 30:25Speaker 12: all our pumps and our pipes need replacing, so it's
- 30:29Speaker 12: just more infrastructive being than getting on with them.
- 30:32Speaker 3: So what did you call it? So piggy why?
- 30:34Speaker 12: Paki why? Piki why?
- 30:36Speaker 3: Water?
- 30:36Speaker 12: Or metro water is easier to say, but it's called
- 30:38Speaker 12: pak water.
- 30:39Speaker 2: Metro okay, metro why And that's the regional water body
- 30:46Speaker 2: in your area. So from July you're all in cahoots
- 30:50Speaker 2: and presu so and this mile point thing, I mean
- 30:53Speaker 2: that space that they won't be getting that fixed and
- 30:55Speaker 2: under control by then, So that means you'll all I mean,
- 30:58Speaker 2: do you do you feel do you look at and think, oh,
- 31:00Speaker 2: I don't want to have to pay for their spell,
- 31:02Speaker 2: but you will.
- 31:04Speaker 12: I look at that and think, well that could have
- 31:05Speaker 12: been me. You know, we all have it all round
- 31:08Speaker 12: the region, so regionally we're discussing amalgamation. So if it's
- 31:14Speaker 12: all on the table down here at the moment, we've
- 31:16Speaker 12: all got the same.
- 31:17Speaker 2: Problem, same problems, and everyone's going to help pay for them.
- 31:20Speaker 2: Anita Baker, the Potty too Mer with us this morning
- 31:23Speaker 2: eight to six news talks.
- 31:24Speaker 1: They'd be on your radio and online on iHeartRadio early
- 31:29Speaker 1: edition with Ryan Bridge and one roof Love where you Live.
- 31:34Speaker 3: News talks. They'd be six to six news talks.
- 31:36Speaker 2: They'd be Ryan finally, someone asking the questions about Peter's
- 31:39Speaker 2: and Jones and the money that he extracted from both
- 31:42Speaker 2: Adern and then National to throw around the regions, and
- 31:45Speaker 2: what do we have to show for it? This is
- 31:47Speaker 2: post COVID the numbers text, Mic is with you next?
- 31:51Speaker 2: Did you mention that I did?
- 31:52Speaker 3: Did? Is this the rounded region? The amount of money
- 31:57Speaker 3: that's not well? What I was worried about in that story,
- 31:59Speaker 3: how much hasn't being paid back?
- 32:00Speaker 13: Well, obviously, but the other part was that the people
- 32:03Speaker 13: who run it can't get the numbers together to meet
- 32:06Speaker 13: their deadline for the audit to teach year. And so
- 32:09Speaker 13: the reason they can't, allegedly is because when they ring
- 32:12Speaker 13: up you know Brian and Steve have got a bit
- 32:14Speaker 13: of money from Shane can't get hold and I don't
- 32:16Speaker 13: really get hold of them, and I can't find it.
- 32:18Speaker 2: Sounds a bit like some political parties that have troubled
- 32:20Speaker 2: filing their audits every year.
- 32:22Speaker 3: It would be.
- 32:22Speaker 13: Funny if it wasn't for the fact it's about half
- 32:24Speaker 13: a billion dollars, which is quite a lot, isn't it.
- 32:27Speaker 3: Really? Hey, nice Jack, you've got on to you for that.
- 32:29Speaker 3: A lot of people like this salmon color.
- 32:32Speaker 13: I want to go more pink than salmon. But I
- 32:34Speaker 13: can see why you're saying salmon. This was a big
- 32:36Speaker 13: call on my part. I was shown the fabric and
- 32:39Speaker 13: it was my wife who said do it, and I went,
- 32:42Speaker 13: but Candy Cane, I said, a little bit, Candy, it.
- 32:45Speaker 2: Looks like something that would hang as a curtain, and
