- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn German with Fexingo. I'm Lucas. Luna: And I'm Luna. Episode 107. Can you believe we're over a hundred episodes in? Lucas: It's wild. And today we're tackling something I know you need, Luna — the post office. Luna: Oh, yes! I actually have to mail a letter to my friend in Berlin. I've been putting it off because I don't know what to say. Lucas: Perfect. Then let's start with the most basic thing: you want to send a letter. Ich möchte einen Brief schicken. Luna: Ich möchte einen Brief schicken. Lucas: Good. Ich möchte — I would like — einen Brief schicken — to send a letter. Can you say it once more? Luna: Ich möchte einen Brief schicken. Lucas: Yeah, that's it. Now the postal worker will ask: Wohin geht der Brief? Where is the letter going? Luna: Wohin geht der Brief? Lucas: Yeah. Wohin — where to — geht — goes — der Brief — the letter. So you need to answer with a destination. For example, Nach Deutschland. Luna: Nach Deutschland. So if I say it together: Wohin geht der Brief? Nach Deutschland. Lucas: Right. And then they'll tell you the price. They might say: Was kostet das? — How much does that cost? Or they just state it. Usually something like: Das macht zwei Euro achtzig. Luna: Das macht zwei Euro achtzig. Lucas: Yeah. Das macht — that makes — zwei Euro achtzig. So you'll hear that. And then you pay. They might say: Hier ist das Porto — here is the postage. Luna: Hier ist das Porto. Lucas: Yeah. Porto means postage. So let's practice a whole mini conversation. I'll be the postal worker. You're the customer. Ready? Luna: Ready. Lucas: Guten Tag. Was kann ich für Sie tun? Luna: Ich möchte einen Brief schicken. Lucas: Wohin geht der Brief? Luna: Nach Deutschland. Lucas: Das macht zwei Euro achtzig. Luna: Hier ist das Geld. Lucas: Hier ist das Porto. Vielen Dank. Luna: Thank you so much. Lucas: You did great. Let's break down what you said: Ich möchte einen Brief schicken, Wohin geht der Brief, Nach Deutschland, Das macht zwei Euro achtzig. You remembered all of it. Luna: I did! And it felt natural.
