Latest / BBQ Therapy / AMERICAN ROYAL RECAP - A Royal Freeze
Transcript
- 0:02Welcome to the BBQ Therapy podcast.
- 0:04My name is Tavis Bryant and today I'm doing a quick solo
- 0:08episode. I haven't did one in a while,
- 0:10just summing up my experience at the American Royal.
- 0:14It was great. I can't ask for anything more
- 0:18that could have happened. At first I was worried about
- 0:23getting out there based on everything you heard from the
- 0:29airport reports and seeing video of the airport being packed out,
- 0:37but then you also seeing video of the airport being empty.
- 0:42So I didn't know what to believe.
- 0:43So I was worried about just being able to get out and fly up
- 0:49there. But, and I had a Plan B, which
- 0:53was if I wasn't able to catch a flight, I was going to drive up
- 0:57there, which would have been 13 hours.
- 1:00So that would have put me getting there Friday night,
- 1:03which would have been bad for business.
- 1:06But I was able to catch my flight.
- 1:07Everything was fine at the airport.
- 1:09I was able to get through the line in about 10 minutes and be
- 1:13at the gate. You know, even though I went
- 1:16early, I mean, I had to wait three hours for my flight.
- 1:19I still don't take no chances. I like getting places early but
- 1:24I was able to get there and get to Kansas City at a decent time.
- 1:32I arrived at Kansas City about 12/30 12:45 went through the
- 1:37airport, did a quick video of Meet Rushmore's restaurant.
- 1:43It was packed out. I didn't get a chance to grab
- 1:46anything because I had to get my rent a car as well as get to the
- 1:51hotel and change so I can get to American Royal by 3:00 for when
- 1:56the gates open. So after that I went to the rent
- 2:01a car place and up there they rent a car situation is
- 2:05different from ours down here and down here when you rent a
- 2:10car, they give you a specific car that you're going to get or
- 2:14a specific size car and they usually just bring the car out
- 2:18to you and tell you What Car you getting.
- 2:20But up there, I didn't know that you just go hop in the car on
- 2:29whatever Rd. that you paid for and just drive off and first
- 2:36come, first serve. So I was just standing there for
- 2:39a minute and then I just noticed people jumping in the car.
- 2:42And then I finally asked someone and he said any cars on these
- 2:45roads here, just hop in it and just go.
- 2:48So I felt that I was interested. I mean, it was good in a way and
- 2:53not good in some ways, but I ain't even.
- 2:58That's how they do it. That's how they do it.
- 2:59But after that, I raced to my room, got ready, left out to go
- 3:06to the Kansas Speedway, which that was where the American role
- 3:11was getting there. The GPS did not take me to the
- 3:16right gate, but I drove around until I found the entrance and
- 3:22then I parked. And we're advice if you're going
- 3:26to go there, I would suggest getting the VIP lot which is
- 3:31closer, which is what I got. But I also was like I put on
- 3:41social media able to get a media pass.
- 3:43I didn't know they had media parking but I didn't get all the
- 3:46information. But when I got there, I got
- 3:49through, got my map to start off going around, I was excited.
- 3:57I mean, this was different. And you get out there and you
- 4:00can see from the top of the stands, you can see all the
- 4:05teams out there and all the setup that they have down there.
- 4:09It's a great sight to view just by looking at the top of the
- 4:15bleachers. So once I got down there, I
- 4:18started to just start walking around and see what section I
- 4:25can start off meeting people that were on the show because
- 4:29that's one of the reasons I wanted to meet a lot of people
- 4:31that I had on the show in person and so they can see my face.
- 4:36Some of them I've already met, but some of them I haven't.
- 4:39So I made it my business. I wanted to meet as many as I
- 4:43can. There were a few that I didn't
- 4:45get a chance to run into, like Smoking Magic and meet Rushmore
- 4:52and OG Bandits and just a couple other that were out there that I
- 4:58had recorded with that I wanted to meet and show my appreciation
- 5:04for doing a recording with me. So when I got out there, I met
- 5:09the guys from high on the Hog BBQ.
- 5:14They helped me navigate to the Media Center where I got my
- 5:18badge. And after that I started
- 5:22venturing around to see who was out there and who I can shake
- 5:27hands with and have a conversation with.
- 5:30Of course, I first one I went to was Kell and Janet Phelps.
- 5:36They're from Georgia also and very cordial.
- 5:43I went and spoke to them and of course, as everybody say, if you
- 5:48need anything, come find me. And I said OK, so I left there
- 5:52and then I just started venturing around the different
- 5:58people's trailers that I knew and and some that I didn't know.
- 6:03And the atmosphere is amazing. It's more Friday's more laid
- 6:10out, laid back, and more people are out of their trailers and
- 6:16you get to meet a lot more people.
- 6:19And so everybody I saw that I could introduce myself to, I did
- 6:28that. And people that know me know I'm
- 6:33more reserved and not that type of person to run up on people
- 6:37and, and just start talking to them.
- 6:39It's my wife's more that type of person.
- 6:42I've learned to be better and I've gotten better at doing
- 6:46that. Just walk up, introduce myself.
- 6:49And I guess it's maybe a fear of rejection, but I've gotten over
- 6:53that because most of the people I've learned in the BBQ
- 6:56community is very nice and very welcoming.
- 7:01So through dealing with a lot of the good people in BBQ, I've
- 7:07learned that so it it, it doesn't bother me no more to
- 7:12walk up on people and introduce myself or tell them I have a
- 7:17podcast what it's about or asking for an e-mail address.
- 7:21But also, like I said, I do my homework so I know a lot of
- 7:25information on the different pit masters out there.
- 7:28So I know their names. I don't have to be asking who,
- 7:33what their name is. A lot of people are their team
- 7:37name or I've heard a lot of the team names and, and some of the
- 7:41people that were on the popular side as well as non popular side
- 7:46that I'm able to know their names and, and, and, and
- 7:50recognize who they are. I strolled around and and as I
- 7:58went around, a lot of people that I knew were nice enough to
- 8:03introduce me to other people that they knew.
- 8:07And that's the thing I like about BBQ.
- 8:11Once you know someone, they're going to introduce you to
- 8:14another person, then they're going to introduce you to
- 8:17another person or two people or three people, or they were,
- 8:22they'll bring you over to a group of people and then you can
- 8:25meet a whole group at one time. And by doing that, it makes your
- 8:30circle even bigger. So I, as I started just
- 8:36freestyling, walking around, I met a lot of the people at the
- 8:40beginning that was on the podcast, Brian Payton Vincent
- 8:49and and Joyce Regino. I stood there, talked to them
- 8:53for a while, and then I went around the corner.
- 8:58I saw Brad Lightinger, and I went to introduce myself to him.
- 9:04I was a little nervous, yeah, But I went over to introduce
- 9:08myself to him and explained that I was trying to reach out to him
- 9:12to get him on the podcast. And he said, cool, just reach
- 9:15out to me. And I know that BBQ season is
- 9:19coming to an end, so a lot of people have more time than they
- 9:23used to. So I definitely will be reaching
- 9:26out to a lot more people in the coming months while they have
- 9:29downtime. But continuing on, I just spent
- 9:35Friday mainly just walking around, not staying in one spot
- 9:40for too long because if I'm standing around, I'm not meeting
- 9:43new people and and socializing. So I kept going on and, and
- 9:50throughout the day. And then I tried to go over to a
- 9:56lot of the trailers where people invited me to, told me to stop
- 10:02by. I wanted to make sure I went by
- 10:05and met those people because they took their time to reach
- 10:09out and told me to drop by so they can meet me.
- 10:12So like, who am I? I'm not nobody big that I can't
- 10:17go over and and meet somebody because it, it makes my
- 10:20connection bigger. And then I love meeting people
- 10:24and connecting with the BBQ community and making new
- 10:31friends. So I was told about a Snake
- 10:35River Farms party. So I had caught up with Ray
- 10:40Sheehan over at the BBQ News NBBQA trailer and me him and
- 10:50when his friends went over to the Snake River Farms party and
- 10:55it was like a All Star game. People that were there, some of
- 11:02the biggest names and BBQ were there and me I was like I
- 11:07definitely felt out of place but I know I belong.
- 11:10I mean just like the rest of them.
- 11:15Even though I'm not cooking right now, I I'm still part of
- 11:19the BBQ community because I have a BBQ podcast and I will get
- 11:24into competing. But right now I want to see
- 11:26where this goes and see how far this take me.
- 11:29Because I found out that I'm pretty good at what I'm doing
- 11:33here. So I put in the time and work
- 11:36and the results are paying off. But also, I got to meet a lot of
- 11:41people there and got introduced to a lot of people that were
- 11:47around. And Tim Shearer introduced me to
- 11:53a few folks and a couple of other guys that Ray Sheehan
- 11:59knew. I got introduced to them also.
- 12:03And then that's when I saw Mark Bayless, which is one of my BBQ
- 12:10role models because he's very instrumental in keeping me
- 12:14enthusiastic when I was just getting into it.
- 12:19And he showed me BBQ love and my wife was there too and he showed
- 12:26her love and welcoming us at Memphis and May.
- 12:30So every time I see him, I'm always excited.
- 12:35And he introduced me to more people also.
- 12:38And by that time, it's like I had met so many people at that
- 12:43time and my mind was blown because this, this wasn't no
- 12:50regular people. It was people like Reagan from
- 12:58LA Pasadita, Bill Purvis, Tim Shearer introduced me to Robert
- 13:05Smith, first class BBQ. Mike Johnson was over there.
- 13:12I got introduced to Darren Worth, which I already had met
- 13:15like a about an hour or two before the end, which was funny
- 13:20because about 3 to 4 times I got introduced to Darren Worth and
- 13:26me and I was just looking at each other like OK, we already
- 13:29met before SO and I talked to him over at JDQ.
- 13:36Josh DeWitt and Brian Wheeze Calhoun's trailer.
- 13:42And I got to tell him that I I'm the guy that reached out to you
- 13:45and I look forward to having you on the show.
- 13:49And he said OK. And he said he'd been busy and I
- 13:52like. I know.
- 13:53And since barbecues and winding down, I'm reach out and connect
- 13:58with him. So that's how that went.
- 14:01And that party was good. They were giving out pig.
- 14:08They had I guess someone had did a pig and they was giving out
- 14:12hamburgers and hot dogs and sausage and stuff like that.
- 14:18By that time I after I left there, my legs were hurting so
- 14:22bad from walking. I went on and went home for that
- 14:26night so I can regroup for the second night.
- 14:31So that second night, well, the second day rather, I got up, got
- 14:39there about 11:00 and I started walking around.
- 14:45I had, while I was at the hotel, I made a list of everybody I
- 14:50didn't get a chance to meet that we're on the podcast or that I
- 14:59just wanted to run across and, and, and, and introduce myself.
- 15:04So I got out there and started making my rounds and ran into
- 15:10Shad Curtain from BBQ Pitmasters.
- 15:13I got his information. Then I went and spoke to Rob
- 15:22Arrocha of Smoking Gooder podcast, went to the Tailgater
- 15:29guy to exchange stickers with him, and that's when I just
- 15:37continued to float around to other sites like Split Nador.
- 15:44They invited me to come over and meet them.
- 15:46So I met them and rooters and tutors and went by the Sweeties
- 15:51Barbecue and introduced myself to them.
- 15:58But other than that, that's when I made it to Luke Darnell's
- 16:04trailer. They allowed me to come in there
- 16:06and sit around with them, which I meant a lot because I said he
- 16:13was. I reached out to him and told
- 16:14him that I wanted to come hang out with him because I like how
- 16:20he operates where he goes around and meets everybody around him
- 16:27and talk to him like he did at the Jack Daniels where he went
- 16:32to every team and spoke to every team.
- 16:34That means a lot to people where you go around and speak to him,
- 16:37whether you're a big team or a small team.
- 16:40Just feeling that, OK, he took time to come out and talk to me.
- 16:44It, it, it means a lot. So I like that where he just go
- 16:48socialize with the other teams. And I told him I wanted to
- 16:52shadow him because I, I admire that.
- 16:55I mean, he's a big people person and I want to be able to be like
- 17:02that as far as just going out and talk to people and greeting
- 17:06them and how you doing and make those connections and bring them
- 17:10on to the podcast. Because like I said, I'm not one
- 17:13of those ones is it only goes after the big names or people
- 17:19that win stuff or the top selling stuff.
- 17:22I want to speak to everybody because everybody has a story.
- 17:27There's numerous products that are out there that people
- 17:31haven't heard of that needs a chance like everybody else.
- 17:34So those stories can help other people succeed.
- 17:42The thing is, if you don't have a story to tell, I mean, there's
- 17:45nothing. I mean, it's nice to hear you
- 17:49brag, but it's not benefiting this podcast 'cause my podcast
- 17:53is specifically on motivating people and educating people.
- 17:57Then that's what I'm going to stick to as far as it's nice
- 18:02that you're successful in what you're doing, but how are you
- 18:06going to translate that into helping someone else?
- 18:10You can tell about what you did right, but also some of the
- 18:14things that didn't go right. We need you to help other
- 18:19people, not make those mistakes. You don't have to give your
- 18:22business. I never asked anybody for their
- 18:24personal business or anything like that and I don't ask.
- 18:29I've never asked anybody for a recipe or anything.
- 18:31My main is my main purpose is getting the story to help
- 18:35motivate others on how to get a food truck going successfully or
- 18:42a restaurant or seasoning or rub or BBQ product or a podcast or
- 18:49anything dealing with the BBQ world.
- 18:52My focus is on getting those stories out so somebody can
- 18:58listen to it and say, hey, if he did it, I can do it too.
- 19:01Let me go ahead and try because you never know how your story is
- 19:06going to affect someone and get them into motion to reaching
- 19:11their destiny. But that's the main reason that
- 19:14I do the podcast. But being back in his tent and
- 19:19back to the story. But I sat around there while
- 19:22they was doing their ancillaries and I was just asking him
- 19:27different questions and that I had in my head and we just
- 19:30shooting the breeze and different people coming in and
- 19:34out and I was being introduced to them which was great.
- 19:37Also, I got to do turn insurance with Miss Kim, which was also
- 19:45fun because I got to spend time and talk to her, which was good.
- 19:51Also, I got the see everybody turn in their desserts, which
- 19:57was also a great spectacle to see.
- 20:00I was able to record a lot of that and it was just fun and a
- 20:06happy atmosphere to see the different creativity that people
- 20:10deal with the desserts and it it it I, I love the atmosphere and
- 20:17I wouldn't have changed it for anything in the world.
- 20:23But once I got back there, I ventured off with him a few
- 20:28times to stretch our legs and that's when I ran into Darren
- 20:34Worth again. I got introduced again and I met
- 20:39Mr. Trevino from Smoking Vaults and a couple other teams that
- 20:45were over there because it was freezing.
- 20:48So it was around a fire pit. But after that it was a war
- 20:53time. After we got finished, went to
- 20:56awards, it was freezing, freezing.
- 21:01So definitely if you're coming from out of town on a flight,
- 21:05definitely be prepared because even though they said it wasn't
- 21:09going to be as cold as it was, as well as the fact there's no
- 21:15trees around, the wind was blowing and it was freezing.
- 21:20But the award ceremony, that was my first big event award
- 21:25ceremony, which was cool to see and see the excitement of the
- 21:31teams as they called them out. Shout out to Reuters and tutors
- 21:35for the win and the GC. And I was excited about that
- 21:42because that's somebody I know and a lot of teams that I came
- 21:47in contact with with. And he got called for awards
- 21:52which made me happy 'cause I might be a good luck charm but
- 21:55never know. But may good be the case.
- 21:59But after that I immediately after the war ceremony was over,
- 22:04I left and went to the hotel 'cause I was freezing.
- 22:11And at Sunday I got up and well before I at the Wards, I was
- 22:21talking to Brian Wheeze Calhoun. He said if I wanted to come
- 22:27around 8:00, he'll be prepping. So I said sure.
- 22:32I definitely took him up on that so I can just get a, a feel of
- 22:37the atmosphere of them prepping the comp meets.
- 22:40So I got up early and and went and just to socialize I met him
- 22:45and the people that was cooking with him.
- 22:49Josh DeWitt. I met all his crew and over also
- 22:58was Tiny E Dirk, Jodi and a couple other people over there
- 23:05cooking with them and the hospitality and the niceness of
- 23:14each person there who didn't even know me really.
- 23:17This is my first time meeting all of them just the other day,
- 23:22and they were so welcoming. And it's like I had three
- 23:27breakfasts because everybody kept bringing food and allowing
- 23:31me to try different things that they cooked, like desserts and
- 23:37different things that they entered throughout the American
- 23:41Royal. And I felt it made me feel good
- 23:44because they're asking for my opinion to to try dishes that
- 23:50they prepared. And it's like everybody over
- 23:52there was a chef because it was everything was excellent.
- 23:56So I do want to give a shout out to each one of them over there
- 23:59that welcomed me in and was so nice to allow me to just be
- 24:05around them in the midst of them competing and just making me
- 24:12feel like I was part of the team.
- 24:14And hey, if anything comes up, I'm going to reach out to you.
- 24:17Or just everybody was just so nice and, and, and it, it, it
- 24:26made me feel special and just this guy from Georgia and just
- 24:33coming out there just to see who I can meet.
- 24:36And you'd be surprised how many people that already know you,
- 24:40even though they may act like they not know you, but when you
- 24:43get brought up like this is so and so.
- 24:45Oh yeah, I seen them online. All right.
- 24:47And that's when you know, like, OK, they have seen me.
- 24:50And I'm making an impact on the community of BBQ, which I'm
- 24:57trying to do so because I try to give out a quality product.
- 25:03I, I take this serious what I do, I don't just throw anything
- 25:07together because like I, I was telling someone that I don't
- 25:15have the name like other people. If I was had 1000 trophies
- 25:19behind me, I can get away with saying anything or doing
- 25:22anything on the podcast, but I don't.
- 25:25But I, I, I take this serious enough that I put full effort
- 25:29into these interviews at everybody think doing the
- 25:33podcast is it's easy. It's not easy.
- 25:37I mean, it takes a lot of preparation that goes into this
- 25:40if you're doing it right. And I do everything by myself.
- 25:44So there's a lot of time free time, sometime free time I don't
- 25:49have that goes into this because like I said, BBQ means a lot to
- 25:53me and I want to reach the community.
- 25:58All those folks is looking to get in a comp BBQ or get in a
- 26:02food trailer or restaurant. I want to make a difference in
- 26:05their life by bringing them voices of the people that I know
- 26:09or I make contact with through me making connections and using
- 26:15those connections to educate and motivate others out there that
- 26:20may be wanting to get into that field.
- 26:22Because if they don't get their help, they may give up and just
- 26:26walk away from whatever they're trying to do and and ruin their
- 26:30destiny. So I'm going to do my part to
- 26:33bring them these stories and do all the research I can on each
- 26:37individual that comes on here that I can ask quality questions
- 26:42and give a quality interview that will touch someone's life.
- 26:50And also they can fully know about some of the pit masters
- 26:55that they know and some that they don't know.
- 26:59Like I said before, if everybody I bring on this podcast, if you
- 27:04know every last one of them, I'm not doing my job I need, I'm
- 27:08bringing people that you may have heard of, you may haven't
- 27:12heard of. And that's the point of what I'm
- 27:14trying to do is bring the spotlight to other people that
- 27:20deserves to be heard instead of having the same people that you
- 27:26hear on every podcast and hear the same story from them.
- 27:31And even if I do have something, somebody that been on another
- 27:35podcast, I'm going to try to ask different questions that haven't
- 27:39been asked before because there's a lot of follow up
- 27:42questions that don't get asked. There's a lot of questions that
- 27:45don't get asked. And I'm a curious person.
- 27:50I'm not a journalist. I don't have any background in
- 27:54any type of journalism or being a reporter or on the news or
- 28:00anything like that. Just a curious person, just a
- 28:03regular guy that decided to do a podcast because a lot of
- 28:09podcasts I was hearing is just, there was stuff that I wouldn't,
- 28:16I mean, I wasn't a big fan of. So I was trying to cut those
- 28:19things out and do it a different way.
- 28:22No disrespect for any other podcasts.
- 28:24They, that's, that's their format and the way I format
- 28:28mine, I do it my way. And no, I, I, I support other
- 28:34podcasts. There's more than one way to do
- 28:37this and wish everybody the best of luck, but I'm here to do my
- 28:42thing and and be successful in what I'm doing because I know
- 28:46it's going to reach people and I'm going to right now.
- 28:51I'm going to see where it goes. I'm going to jump into competing
- 28:54eventually and ease my way into competing.
- 28:58But right now I'm also going to continue on with this podcast
- 29:03because I even though sometimes it get frustrating, there's
- 29:07people out there that shoot me Adm and it it it means the world
- 29:14because it's like, OK, some people out here are listening
- 29:18and it's making a difference. And when you hear, OK, that was
- 29:20a good interview, it's like, OK, thank you for that.
- 29:24Because sometimes it it after you get off, you'll be thinking
- 29:28like, OK, did I did, how did I do?
- 29:30Did I do good enough? Or should I ask this question
- 29:33different? Or should I ask, should I ask
- 29:37this or that? So I definitely enjoy the
- 29:44feedback I've been getting from the podcast and as I venture
- 29:49into the second season, which is already recorded, every episode
- 29:55is already recorded because I've record as much as I can and just
- 30:01releasing one at a time. So the second season is already
- 30:04done. So all I have to do is just
- 30:09finish editing a lot of them and just load them in so they can be
- 30:13released. And that's the best way for me
- 30:17to do it and not take up people's time.
- 30:21It's pre recording so I don't have to jam up people's schedule
- 30:25where they can do it on their free time.
- 30:26And then I can just take my time, edit and release the
- 30:29episode when it's time. But you get back on the third
- 30:35day I was there and just socializing and hanging out with
- 30:39them. The atmosphere was nice,
- 30:43friendly. Turn out turn insurance went
- 30:48well and I went to walk. When they did the turn in for
- 30:54sausage, I got to meet Rod Gray and shook his hand, introduced
- 30:59myself and came back and help them break down their areas and
- 31:07asked if anything else I can do. And since this was the last day,
- 31:13I wasn't going to go to turn insurance again because it was
- 31:16too freezing out there. When I tell you it was cold, it
- 31:19was cold. But I decided to skip awards and
- 31:26leave right out there. Everybody got situated and
- 31:29packed up for them to go to awards.
- 31:33But that was my American Royal experience.
- 31:40I enjoyed it thoroughly. Luke Darnell said I was a genius
- 31:46at marketing, which I felt that I got to tell him nobody knows
- 31:51me that well yet. A lot of people do, but as far
- 31:56as my name, they don't know my name.
- 31:59A lot of them do, but that's why I try to market myself and show
- 32:06my brand and because if you haven't, you might not recognize
- 32:11me, but you may have seen the logo.
- 32:16So or if I may be turned around or something and my back to you,
- 32:21you may see the logo or turn to the front.
- 32:25You may see the logo and say, hey, hey, it's the podcast guy
- 32:29like Tillman's BBQ. I was walking around, they
- 32:33called me over. I'd spoke with them, had a good
- 32:36conversation with them, and I got to meet the people from
- 32:41Cordy meets over at Janky Legs trailer and had a good
- 32:48conversation with them and look forward to speaking with them.
- 32:51But overall it it was successful.
- 32:55My, my goal at the beginning was to go out there and be like
- 33:01James Cameron and get all this video footage of the American
- 33:05role. But after I got going, I felt it
- 33:10was more important to make as many connections that I could
- 33:15and meet as many folks that I could.
- 33:17Because I feel that as a BBQ community is all about making
- 33:22yourself personable and being friendly with people.
- 33:26Not just I'm not using folks just for interviews, but I want
- 33:30to get to know these folks and be friends with these folks and
- 33:34interact with them and see them all as much as I can.
- 33:39And it's, it's a welcoming family atmosphere.
- 33:44Every competition that I've been to is it's been the same.
- 33:47I've never had a bad experience at a a competition because at
- 33:52the end of the day, you choose who you want to hang around.
- 33:56So if you choose to hang around people that are not friendly or
- 34:00mean or racist or anything like that, that's this is our free
- 34:06time and we choose to do with our free time what we want.
- 34:10So we get to choose who we hang around.
- 34:13So that's a choice that we make. And I feel that the BBQ
- 34:22community has been welcomed to me and my wife and even my
- 34:26daughter when I brought my daughters out.
- 34:29So right now, I continue to look forward to meeting more people
- 34:35and continuing to interact with the people I've met already.
- 34:39And as far as me, they know now how my personality is and how
- 34:45friendly and respectful I am because I'm a big person when it
- 34:49comes to being respectful. Everybody going to tell you that
- 34:55I'm going to yes Sir, yes ma'am. How you doing?
- 34:58Thank you and I try to teach my daughter that respect takes you
- 35:05a long way. Being smart is good and all, but
- 35:10being respectful people going to remember that how you treat
- 35:14other people people going to remember that.
- 35:17So I always making my business to be respectful as well as do
- 35:23my homework, do all I can to research on people I have an
- 35:28interest in BBQ. So I'm going to do my research
- 35:30on learning about BBQ. Have questions I want to ask
- 35:37people and being able to even hold a conversation with someone
- 35:43in the field that you're trying to because because once you get
- 35:47the opportunity and you're around them and you don't know
- 35:51anything about what you have an interest in, they're not going
- 35:55to be able they're not going to want to conversate with you
- 35:59anymore because this person don't know what they're talking
- 36:02about or do you this person don't even know me or know
- 36:05anything about me but they're asking me questions.
- 36:08So that's why I'm making my business to know information on
- 36:12as many people as I can get familiar with them.
- 36:16But overall, it's been 2 thumbs up and I can't wait to go back
- 36:25again next year. I'd definitely be more prepared
- 36:28as far as if they're going to have cold weather.
- 36:32You got to tell me twice. But I mean, I, I, I met a lot of
- 36:38people and made a lot of connections.
- 36:42I was part, I was sad about that.
- 36:45I didn't get to meet everybody that I want set out to meet.
- 36:51I wanted to meet Sterling Smith, the Luton booty.
- 36:57Every time I went by, he was talking to somebody, but I
- 37:01didn't definitely was going to interrupt nobody but smoking
- 37:06magic. I really wanted to meet them.
- 37:08And like I said earlier, meet Rushmore and I didn't get to
- 37:14meet Joe Pierce and I didn't get to hang out with Chris Shaffer
- 37:17like I wanted to. And as well as Tim Shear, I
- 37:24didn't get to see him again because I wanted to see the new
- 37:28bus he got. But most of the time Saturday
- 37:34and Sunday People were working on their meats.
- 37:37So I definitely try to be respectful and not interrupt
- 37:41people while they're doing their turn insurance as well as
- 37:46prepping their meats because there's money on the line as
- 37:49well as trophies. So I will see all them down the
- 37:54road and am satisfied with the people I didn't meet and the
- 38:04numbers, as well as e-mail addresses and well as handshakes
- 38:08and hugs from everybody that I did get a chance to see.
- 38:14But on that note, I thank everybody for listening to
- 38:18another episode of the BBQ Therapy Session show.
- 38:24And I'm going to release this as a bonus episode also, probably
- 38:31after the second, well, the first episode of Season 2, which
- 38:36is featuring Rod Gray. All those have been listening to
- 38:41my podcasts. I thank you.
- 38:44Can't thank you enough 'cause you didn't have to, but you did
- 38:48all those, whether it's one episode or every episode, I
- 38:52thank you because you're sacrificing your time to support
- 38:56my vision. And I will definitely continue
- 38:59to give you great episodes and look forward to recording Season
- 39:053. As you can tell, interviews are
- 39:08getting better. I'm getting stronger in this
- 39:10craft and I'm hanging with the big dogs.
- 39:13So on that note, I thank y'all and be blessed and be safe.
- 39:18Have a great day.
