- 0:002nd Corinthians chapter 2. Let us pray.
- 0:06Our Father, who's in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
- 0:09We thank you, Father, for today. We thank you God, for all that
- 0:12you've already done for us. Father, you're amazing and
- 0:15awesome. God, we worship you in spirit
- 0:18and truth. And Lord, we are asking that
- 0:20you, Lord, will come and get your glory.
- 0:23Father, come and unlock and unleash all the power of the
- 0:27Holy Spirit within us. God, let him break out fresh
- 0:30wind, fresh fire in this house. God, I pray for the daily bread
- 0:35today. God, let the word wash over us,
- 0:37God, and renew our minds. Father, I pray in the name of
- 0:40Jesus for a sound mind. God, I pray in the name of Jesus
- 0:45you'll bind the enemy. Father, I pray against the
- 0:47tempter in the accuser of the brethren.
- 0:50Father, I pray God, you'll keep us from deception.
- 0:53Lord, I pray that you will set the caps free.
- 0:56Lord, I pray in the name of Jesus, as the blood of Jesus
- 0:59Christ, Christ will come and cover us, Father, and we could
- 1:02walk in our identity. Lord, we love you.
- 1:04Father, we love everything about you.
- 1:06Lord, I pray that your power and your Kingdom and your glory,
- 1:10Father, will come, Lord, and let it exude out of us and into the
- 1:14world, Father, for you are worthy and holy, and Lord, we
- 1:17love you. Father, we love everything about
- 1:20you. Lord, yes and Amen, All of the
- 1:23promises contained in this book. Lord, we love you so much and
- 1:27it's in your holy and precious Son, Jesus Christ name that we
- 1:30pray. Amen.
- 1:35Well, let's start in verse one. But I determined this with
- 1:40myself that I would not come again to you in heaviness.
- 1:47So Paul here is referencing the Corinthian church that he
- 1:53established there in Corinth. He's referencing a letter that
- 1:59he had written to them that was heavy.
- 2:06And here he is saying that the reason he did not show up there
- 2:11is because it was going to be detrimental to their
- 2:14relationship if he came and tore them down even further than he
- 2:20had done with the first letter to the Corinthians.
- 2:23It was not going to be good for him or them.
- 2:26So out of wisdom, Paul excused himself.
- 2:30But in the meantime, the Corinthian church started to
- 2:37attach wrong labels to Paul and they said that he was not
- 2:43reliable and that his yes actually meant no and it is no
- 2:48actually meant yes. And so they were actually taking
- 2:53shots at Paul and Paul here is wanting to correct them in their
- 2:59futile thinking and show them the wisdom from God.
- 3:03That is the reason that he did not come to them with heaviness.
- 3:07He wanted to spare them the rod. He wanted to spare them the
- 3:12rebuke and the correction because he knew that it would
- 3:16not end well and it would lead them into a place of feeling as
- 3:25if Paul was not operating in the Spirit of God.
- 3:30And so Paul knew that it was wisdom to keep himself from
- 3:35going in there with the wrong attitude and with the wrong
- 3:39motives. And so he chose to allow them to
- 3:44come to repentance on their own and not go there with another
- 3:51letter of heaviness, which he did with the first letter that
- 3:55he wrote to them, which we just got done studying First
- 3:58Corinthians. So here we are in Second
- 4:01Corinthians and there is a lost letter in here that was not
- 4:06inspired. And that is really all that we
- 4:09need to know. We have the complete authority,
- 4:13the inspired and fallible and errant word of God, nothing
- 4:17added and nothing subtracted. And you need to know if there
- 4:20are any missing letters, any missing epistles.
- 4:25Those are just novelty. Some of them are history, but
- 4:29they are not inspired. We have and we hold and we house
- 4:33and we own and we memorize the entirety of God's infallible and
- 4:38arrant. God breathed inspired word,
- 4:42friends, and we can know that it's trustworthy and true and we
- 4:46can build our lives upon it. Friends, the chief cornerstone.
- 4:50And we do not need to be steeped in mysticism, friends.
- 4:53We do not need to be steeped in new teachings and new doctrines.
- 4:58We need to go and obey the revealed will of God, Friends,
- 5:02from Genesis to Revelation and nothing added and nothing
- 5:06subtracted. Verse 2 For if I make you sorry,
- 5:11who is he? Then that makes me glad, but the
- 5:15same which is made sorry by me. So he is wanting to actually
- 5:21build up the Corinthian church, not to tear them down.
- 5:25He is already gone in with his first letter to the Corinthians.
- 5:31He's already rebuked them. He's already corrected them.
- 5:36Now he is desirous to build them up.
- 5:40Verse 3 And I wrote the same unto you, lest when I came I
- 5:43should have sorrow from them, of whom I ought to rejoice, having
- 5:49confidence in you all, that my joy is the joy of you all That
- 5:53is Paul's entire reason here is he is wanting them to know that
- 5:58he wants to be grateful and have joy in the church there in
- 6:04Corinth. And Paul has been very
- 6:09understanding with them, and he knows that they are babes in
- 6:13Christ, and he knows that they are coming into maturation, and
- 6:18he knows that he must be patient with them.
- 6:20Verse 4. For out of much affliction and
- 6:24anguish of heart I wrote unto you with many tears, not that
- 6:28you should be grieved, but that you might know the love which I
- 6:32have more abundantly unto you, this love of God intermingled
- 6:37with the discipline. And that is what you need to
- 6:39know is God disciplines those that he loves.
- 6:42And it sure doesn't feel like it in the moment.
- 6:46It sure feels as if God is mad at you or he's angry.
- 6:49But just remember that our Heavenly Father is nothing like
- 6:54our earthly father, and we need not try to attach wrong feelings
- 7:00and emotions to God. Almighty God is perfect in all
- 7:04of his ways. And God knows that the
- 7:06discipline is going to produce the character and the
- 7:10perseverance, and it's all done out of love.
- 7:13And we do not need to be afraid of God's discipline when it
- 7:18comes. And so Paul here is operating in
- 7:22the Spirit of God, and he knows that they are in dire need of
- 7:26encouragement and not to be broken down and dismayed and
- 7:32discouraged. 5 But if any have caused grief, he has not grieved
- 7:39me, but in part that I may not overcharge you all.
- 7:43He's saying I do not want to be so stern that it pushes you away
- 7:49from the love of God. And this is the delicate balance
- 7:53that pastors and ministers have. Friends, we cannot just condone
- 7:58sin. And if you look at Christ, he
- 8:00was the perfect example of how we are to operate.
- 8:03He was never afraid to be around the prostitutes and the tax
- 8:08collectors, the drunkards, friends and the thieves.
- 8:12He was never afraid of it, but he never condoned it.
- 8:17He never Co signed on their sin. He was very quick to forgive and
- 8:23tell them to sin no more, less something worse would come upon
- 8:27them. And Paul here is saying he did
- 8:30not want to overburden and over charge them with grief.
- 8:35He's operating in the spirit of God's love, friends, and love
- 8:40covers a multitude of sins. Sick sufficient to such a man is
- 8:44this punishment which was inflicted of many.
- 8:47He's referencing the gentleman who had an incestual
- 8:52relationship in First Corinthians chapter 5, when Paul
- 8:56was rebuking the church and saying that they were doing
- 8:59things that even the pagans did not talk about.
- 9:02And so here Paul is making sure that they reinstitute this man.
- 9:07And it is a call for us not to swing the pendulum too far to
- 9:11one side or the other. They had kicked the man out.
- 9:15They had pushed him out out of the comfort and out of the
- 9:20provision of the church. And they pushed him out back
- 9:23into the world and turned him over to the world.
- 9:26And then here you can see Paul understands that the man is
- 9:30repentant. The man desires to come back
- 9:33into the fold, and they're keeping him out in the cold.
- 9:37And what you need to understand is Paul is bringing them into
- 9:40balance, and he's showing them that the devil doesn't care what
- 9:44side of the road that you wreck on, just as long as you wreck
- 9:47your car. You can wreck on liberality, you
- 9:50can wreck on legalism. But we need to have balanced
- 9:54friends. And Jesus was perfectly
- 9:55balanced. And Jesus never had to ask for
- 9:58an apology. He never had to ask for
- 10:01forgiveness. He meant what he said, and he
- 10:03said what he meant. And the entirety of God's Word,
- 10:06all 66 books, is the perfect harmony of God's heart.
- 10:12And we can understand the mind of Christ in the heart of God if
- 10:16we'll get into the Word of God. Friends, it is our lifeline.
- 10:20It is everything that we need to know, and we just obey it,
- 10:25friends. And if you want to know the
- 10:26unrevealed will of God, you have to start obeying the revealed
- 10:30will of God. And you can see God's heart and
- 10:33mind as you study the Scriptures.
- 10:35And Paul wants these Corinthians to understand and not to leave
- 10:40this man out in the cold. He is repentant.
- 10:42They've given them time and space to come to his senses.
- 10:45He's gotten back right. And now they're trying to keep
- 10:49him out of the church friends, and they're being hard hearted.
- 10:53And that is a great grievous sin unto God is whenever we will not
- 10:59reinstitute those that are truly repentant.
- 11:05So what does he say? 7 So that contrary wise, you
- 11:09ought rather to forgive him and comfort him, unless perhaps such
- 11:14a one should be swallowed up with over much sorrow.
- 11:18You can hear the heart of God here.
- 11:21He's saying, listen, bring him back into the fold.
- 11:24If you leave him out there, he's going to be crushed with sorrow.
- 11:28And this is the call to every blood bought, born again
- 11:31believer and every congregation is to not just leave those that
- 11:36are truly repentant out in the world, bring them back in
- 11:40friends and love on them even if they have committed heinous
- 11:45crimes. And what you need to understand
- 11:47is that God's mercies are new every day and if there's breath
- 11:52in your lungs, it's not too late.
- 11:54Our fate only gets sealed whenever we breathe our last 8.
- 12:00Wherefore I beg you that you would confirm your love towards
- 12:04Him. That is God's heart.
- 12:08His heart is not to leave the sheep out in the cold lost.
- 12:14He'll leave the 99. He'll pursue the one.
- 12:18Friends, you know that God loves and He loves well, and he's
- 12:22saying confirm your love towards him.
- 12:25Do not let him be swallowed up with sorrow.
- 12:28Make sure that you bring him back in 9-4.
- 12:32To this end also did I write that I might know the proof of
- 12:37you, whether you be obedient in all things he's saying.
- 12:40What are you going to do now I'm writing to you.
- 12:43You have to make a decision. Tend to whom you forgive.
- 12:49Anything I forgive also for if I forgave anything to whom I
- 12:54forgave it for your sakes, I forgave it in the person of
- 12:59Christ. All of our sins are under the
- 13:02blood of Jesus Christ, friends, but that does not give us a
- 13:06license to sin. It does not mean that we abuse
- 13:10grace, friends. It doesn't mean that we're above
- 13:12reproof, friends. It doesn't mean that we're above
- 13:16the disciplinary actions of the, of the Apostolic ministry, of
- 13:23the authority that's been placed over our lives.
- 13:26We do not get to just do whatever we want and be a law
- 13:31unto ourselves. We have to operate within the
- 13:34confines of what the Holy Bible tells us, friends, And whenever
- 13:39we sin, not if but whenever we sin, we need to confess and we
- 13:43need to repent and we need to not only accept God's
- 13:46forgiveness, but we need to forgive ourselves as well.
- 13:51And So what is he going to say about it?
- 13:53That Christ is the one who covers all of our sins?
- 13:5811 Lest Satan should get an advantage of us, for we are not
- 14:03ignorance of his devices. So that is what you need to
- 14:06understand is that when we are operating in liberalism or if we
- 14:11are operating in legalism, Satan will get a foothold, friends,
- 14:15and if he can stick his foot in the door jamb, his whole body is
- 14:20coming in. And we need to understand that
- 14:24his devices in the way that he works is to steal, kill and
- 14:28destroy. It's worked since the beginning
- 14:31in the garden and it still works today.
- 14:34It always looks pretty and perfect in the beginning.
- 14:37It always looks as if we can skirt around God and that
- 14:41perhaps God is too heavy with all of His requirements upon us.
- 14:47Oh man. But you need to understand that
- 14:49all the little trickeries and the devices and the deception of
- 14:53Satan always leads to death. It always leads to theft.
- 14:59It always leads to killing and destroying.
- 15:03Friends, that is all that you need to know and we do not need
- 15:06to be ignorant of that fact. Friends, it does not matter if
- 15:10he masquerades as an Angel of light.
- 15:13It is like a viper's bite in the end. 12 Furthermore, when I came
- 15:21to Tro, asked to preach Christ's gospel, and a door was opened
- 15:25unto me of the Lord, that is what we all need to be looking
- 15:28for. We do not need to manufacture
- 15:31our destiny, friends. What we need to do is wait for
- 15:34God to open doors that no man can close, and we need to wait
- 15:40for God to close the doors that no man can open.
- 15:44And that is how we operate every day.
- 15:47We stay fluid. We stay ready to be poured out,
- 15:50friends. We do not try and make
- 15:53everything about us and make it all about our preferences and
- 15:57make it all about what we want, friends.
- 15:59We wait on God, and we wait well, and when God opens the
- 16:04door, we go running, friends. And Paul here was smart enough
- 16:10to wait on the Lord, and when the Lord opened the door, he ran
- 16:13through it. 13 I had no rest in my spirit because I found not
- 16:18Titus my brother, but taking my leave of them, I went on from
- 16:22there into Macedonia. So we're going to see Paul go
- 16:27from Troas to Macedonia, and over the next few chapters or so
- 16:33he's going to show you how his Apostolic degree in all of his
- 16:39credentials, friends, on his way from Choras to Macedonia. 14 Now
- 16:44thanks be unto God, which always causes us to triumph in Christ
- 16:50and makes manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every
- 16:55place. So what you need to understand
- 16:59is that Paul has in mind this parade, this triumphant parade
- 17:03of a victor whenever someone would come back from war.
- 17:07And he's saying that God causes us to be paraded in front of all
- 17:13the evil in the world. And he shows that we are
- 17:16victorious even unto death, even unto the ones that are
- 17:20persecuted and martyred. Friends, that God always parades
- 17:25us and shows the people who are Boston in bondage that we are
- 17:31victorious by the blood of Jesus Christ.
- 17:34And here he's saying that we thank God, that he always causes
- 17:38us to triumph. And it's through Christ and
- 17:40Christ alone that we can put the heel on the head of the serpent.
- 17:45And we need to know that this pleasing aroma of the knowledge
- 17:50of God in every place, in the darkest places.
- 17:53And he's going to tell us in verse 15.
- 17:55For we are unto God a sweet savor of Christ, in them that
- 18:00are saved, and in them that perish. 16 To the one we are a
- 18:08savour of death unto death, and to another we are the savour of
- 18:13life unto life. And who is sufficient for these
- 18:16things? So he's saying here that for the
- 18:19for those that are predestined, and those that are called, and
- 18:23those that are chosen, and those that are saved, and those that
- 18:27will be saved, we are a pleasing aroma unto them.
- 18:31Friends, as we come in, we bring light into the darkness.
- 18:35As we come in, we are salt to a bland world.
- 18:38We purge and purify all of the disease, all of the bacteria,
- 18:50all of the pus, all of the death and the stink friends, the
- 18:56infection. As the salt goes in, it cures,
- 18:59it cleans, it purifies Friends, and it gets it to where there is
- 19:05life again. The dead things come back to
- 19:08life whenever we step into the room because we're bringing the
- 19:13Triune God, we're bringing the Holy Spirit that lives within us
- 19:17into a situation. And we are more than conquerors
- 19:21and we do not need to shrink back in cowardice, even if our
- 19:24very lives are demanded from us. Friends 17 We'll end here, for
- 19:32we are not as many which corrupt the word of God, but as of
- 19:38sincerity, but as of God. In the sight of God, we speak in
- 19:46Christ. So who is sufficient for these
- 19:48things? It's the sold out, laid down
- 19:51lover who has let go of every single thing in this world.
- 19:55They're not being held back by any relationship, by any amount
- 20:00of money. They're not being held back by
- 20:02fear of man or fear of loss of life and limb and job loss.
- 20:08They're not held back by any specific denomination.
- 20:12They're not held back by a certain version.
- 20:15Of the Bible, they're not held back by all of the heresy and
- 20:20all of the wicked schemes of the enemy to try to get us to shut
- 20:25up and to be quiet. But they have a fire within
- 20:29their bones that they must preach the gospel of Jesus
- 20:32Christ. They've counted the cost before
- 20:34they stepped up to the plate and they're running into the fire,
- 20:37friends. They're running in and snatching
- 20:40those out of the fire. And I pray that is the calling
- 20:43that has been placed on your life because he is worthy, He is
- 20:53holy, and he's lovely. I hope you've been blessed by
- 21:03this chapter here in Second Corinthians.
- 21:07I know I sure have. I'm praying for every single one
- 21:10of you. I love you.
- 21:19See you back here tomorrow. God bless you.
