- 0:01[SPEAKER_03]: Welcome to the Big Play Cleveland Show presented by Fandwell.
- 0:05[SPEAKER_03]: I'm Nick Pidone, Chris McNeill, joins the program as well.
- 0:09[SPEAKER_03]: And we have an absolute stacked program for you on a Monday.
- 0:15[SPEAKER_03]: Chris, good morning, MLB Trade Deadline Day.
- 0:19[SPEAKER_03]: We had a bunch of baseball news over the weekend.
- 0:22[SPEAKER_03]: Cleveland Browns, Training Camp,
- 0:24[SPEAKER_01]: rolls on and we are waiting for the calves to do something do anything how are you this Monday afternoon waiting for both the calves as well as the guardians to do anything at all and right now we're up against the trade deadline for the guardians nick.
- 0:39[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 0:40[SPEAKER_01]: I don't foresee them making any moves right now, but I hope they prove me wrong.
- 0:44[SPEAKER_01]: Once again, I'm in that position of sitting here, just waiting and hoping Christmas is going to come while secretly knowing that I don't think it's going to happen this year.
- 0:53[SPEAKER_01]: We'll see though, Nick.
- 0:55[SPEAKER_03]: We've got a loaded show.
- 0:56[SPEAKER_03]: We're on Guardians Trade Deadline Watch.
- 0:59[SPEAKER_03]: So if news breaks while we're on air We will give you that live immediate coverage.
- 1:05[SPEAKER_03]: Obviously they were on the board with a really small splash when they sent Bo Nailer Over to the Milwaukee Brewers.
- 1:13[SPEAKER_03]: We're gonna break that down and more with Jensen Lewis.
- 1:16[SPEAKER_03]: He's going to join the program at around 1230 hand for Dixon the top
- 1:21[SPEAKER_03]: dog is going to talk some browns training camp memories with us at 1245.
- 1:26[SPEAKER_03]: But Chris, we've got to lead here as we're waiting for a guardians move.
- 1:31[SPEAKER_03]: We're also waiting for the Cleveland Browns to make a decision with this quarterback competition.
- 1:38[SPEAKER_03]: And the headline that we have to lead with this
- 1:42[SPEAKER_03]: is about Shidorah Sanders and if he is starting to pull away in this quarterback competition against the Sean Watson week one of Browns training camp officially in the books they're about to get out on the practice field to start week two.
- 1:56[SPEAKER_03]: The pads come on today.
- 1:58[SPEAKER_03]: Todd Duncan continues to say that there's no decision coming anytime soon, but if you watch the first four days of camp,
- 2:05[SPEAKER_03]: It's hard not to realize that Sanders right now is ahead of Dishon Watson and it's hard to come away from this wondering if Shador started to actually create a little separation in this thing after one week a training camp Chris are you starting to believe that Shador is really starting to pull away from the pack here
- 2:25[SPEAKER_01]: after just one week we're already talking about somebody pulling away which is amazing.
- 2:30[SPEAKER_01]: Tishon hasn't looked very good from all accounts.
- 2:33[SPEAKER_01]: We've seen the greaty videos that I'm always ripping on on Twitter, but I watch him just like everybody else does and I saw Tishon once again throwing some picks there in training camp.
- 2:43[SPEAKER_01]: He saw Shudder have a few nice throws.
- 2:45[SPEAKER_01]: Even daily Gabriel's had some decent throws out there, so
- 2:49[SPEAKER_01]: right now all the talk is to Sean isn't looking good shoulders look at pretty good my thought though Nick right now is and you hit you hit on this a little bit as Todd Monk and you know as a new coach coming in here this is his first time doing this as a head coach right and he steps right into a cubic competition for the Cleveland Brown so ultimately my faith is going to be that he's going to get this right we have seen this done very very wrong and Cleveland before.
- 3:15[SPEAKER_01]: Romeo Cronell.
- 3:16[SPEAKER_01]: Remember how he made a decision?
- 3:18[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 3:18[SPEAKER_01]: The coin at one point.
- 3:20[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, we have Joe Thomas getting introduced to a quarterback during a game in the huddle.
- 3:25[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, quarterbacks historically have not been handled very well here in Cleveland.
- 3:30[SPEAKER_01]: And quarterback competitions have not been handled very well historically.
- 3:34[SPEAKER_01]: We haven't found anybody.
- 3:35[SPEAKER_01]: So Todd Monkin, I'd say there's a lot of heat on Todd Monkin here initially to make a good decision.
- 3:41[SPEAKER_01]: Now ultimately is this going to establish his legacy?
- 3:44[SPEAKER_01]: No.
- 3:44[SPEAKER_01]: but this is a good first test for a new coach coming on to the Cleveland Browns.
- 3:48[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, it absolutely is and you see that quote on the screen from the first time I had coach of the Browns saying that he's not going to make any decision about quarterback until we get through all the installs.
- 3:59[SPEAKER_03]: So I want to walk everybody through a little bit of a timeline here.
- 4:02[SPEAKER_03]: As today's an important day, Chris, they're putting on the pads for the first time.
- 4:06[SPEAKER_03]: and that new collective bargaining agreement, you're only allowed 16 padded practices, Brown's already getting on the board today with their first padded practice.
- 4:15[SPEAKER_03]: He also said on Saturday that there are half way through his installation and that he's gonna need another four games to finalize his installation.
- 4:24[SPEAKER_03]: So that puts us at Thursday of the final day of installs and then Friday, the real quarterback evaluation starts,
- 4:34[SPEAKER_03]: Todd, and you mentioned the interceptions that Watson's throwing, Chris, do you believe monkey when he says that, you know, right now they're not really judging these quarterbacks as harshly as we might be online.
- 4:48[SPEAKER_03]: Instead, they're, you know, understanding that this is installation.
- 4:52[SPEAKER_03]: This is a brand new offense.
- 4:54[SPEAKER_03]: Even though Watson's thrown six interceptions in four practices, it definitely feels like the Browns aren't holding that against them.
- 5:01[SPEAKER_03]: I kind of
- 5:04[SPEAKER_01]: Well, and this is where I do like the fact that Todd Monkin comes to us with experience, a lot of experience, right?
- 5:11[SPEAKER_01]: A younger head coach might be tempted to make a knee-jerk reaction after only a week.
- 5:15[SPEAKER_01]: Hey, we as fans, we can make knee-jerk reactions all the time, Nick, and we do do that all the time, right?
- 5:21[SPEAKER_01]: day to day.
- 5:21[SPEAKER_01]: This guy sucks.
- 5:22[SPEAKER_01]: This guy is great.
- 5:23[SPEAKER_01]: We need to start this.
- 5:24[SPEAKER_01]: We can change as many times as we want.
- 5:26[SPEAKER_01]: What we want is consistency out of a head coach.
- 5:28[SPEAKER_01]: So either he really is telling the truth when he says he's going to play kind of the longer game on this.
- 5:34[SPEAKER_01]: He's going to take it all in before really making
- 5:37[SPEAKER_01]: educated decision on who he wants is the starting quarterback for the Cleveland Browns.
- 5:40[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that's the smart play.
- 5:42[SPEAKER_01]: He has had years to kind of refine his approach.
- 5:45[SPEAKER_01]: He's seen so many quarterbacks.
- 5:46[SPEAKER_01]: He's been successful with quarterbacks.
- 5:48[SPEAKER_01]: So he knows what he's looking for.
- 5:50[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm sure his heck that what he's looking for is not necessarily dictated by one week of practice without pads on one of everybody's running around the church.
- 5:57[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, you know, to be fair, I want to see it both ways I do.
- 6:02[SPEAKER_03]: I want to see it from Munkin's lens that he is a veteran coach and he's an aggressive offensive mind.
- 6:07[SPEAKER_03]: Like that's part of the reason why they hired him.
- 6:09[SPEAKER_03]: So I'm sure like a piece of Todd doesn't mind the interceptions because he wants more explosive plays out of this offense.
- 6:16[SPEAKER_03]: That's what we all want.
- 6:18[SPEAKER_03]: Um, that's, you know, he was James Winston's OC during the 30 touchdown 30 interception year with Tampa Bay.
- 6:25[SPEAKER_03]: So maybe that's what we're signed up for with Todd in 2026.
- 6:29[SPEAKER_03]: I'll take it back to 2019.
- 6:32[SPEAKER_03]: Um, when Odell Beckham Jr. Jarvis Landry bullpad a thousand yard receiving CVs, but Baker still didn't look like a great quarterback.
- 6:40[SPEAKER_03]: You know what I mean, just because the offense wasn't very efficient.
- 6:47[SPEAKER_03]: I'll tell you this, from the quarterback battle lens of this thing, I don't know that they should be, because I think you have right now a lot of Browns fans that are digesting these practices, the way that you are Chris, where you're watching all of these grainy social media videos, and when you see a guy in Deshawn Watson throwing three interceptions in one practice, and in the same practice you see Shidorah Sanders throwing deepballs down the sideline to Denzel Boss, then who's the new shiny receiver in town,
- 7:17[SPEAKER_03]: it makes it pretty easy for fans to what one player and completely disregard the next player even if the coaching staff is telling you that these interceptions right now might not matter the fans don't care the fans don't view it that way fans want touchdowns fan's hate interceptions fans want wins fan's hate losses and I think that's kind of where we're at in this competition from the fan perspective
- 7:40[SPEAKER_01]: Well, yeah, and fans are allowed to do that, right?
- 7:42[SPEAKER_01]: We all do it.
- 7:42[SPEAKER_01]: That's what makes sports fun.
- 7:43[SPEAKER_01]: As you can debate this stuff, you and I can go back and forth on all of it.
- 7:47[SPEAKER_01]: But ultimately, in practice, he's got to make that evaluation.
- 7:50[SPEAKER_01]: And you've got an offense that's trying to run the offense, right?
- 7:53[SPEAKER_01]: They're not necessarily adapting to the defense.
- 7:56[SPEAKER_01]: And the defense isn't scheming necessarily for the offense that they're seeing right now.
- 7:59[SPEAKER_01]: They're trying to run their defense.
- 8:01[SPEAKER_01]: So you're kind of seeing an incongruity there right up front.
- 8:04[SPEAKER_01]: And then also you've got what right excuse me, young receivers out there, you got concept she owned, you got Boston Boston by all accounts is looked fabulous by the way, but they're still young, right?
- 8:14[SPEAKER_01]: And so you're working on routes, you're working on really all of the basics for these guys right now.
- 8:19[SPEAKER_01]: So I don't mind a few interceptions, although at the end of the day,
- 8:23[SPEAKER_01]: This is more of the same from Deshawn Watson.
- 8:26[SPEAKER_01]: So if it continues for much longer, I think we can move off of them, right?
- 8:30[SPEAKER_01]: I think we could that ship is sailed.
- 8:31[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's already sailed.
- 8:33[SPEAKER_01]: But if this continues, like I think it will, that's the point where you say, no, why don't we go a different direction, but I don't think he's quite there yet.
- 8:41[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, that takes us exactly to our second headline.
- 8:44[SPEAKER_03]: And that's at one point in training camp.
- 8:46[SPEAKER_03]: Do these interceptions just become too much for the Browns to stomach,
- 8:51[SPEAKER_03]: namely from to Sean Watson because if there's one thing that Watson deserves not credit for but if there's one clean mark on his browns resume it's that he's throw more touchdowns then he has thrown interceptions during his time here he's got that leg up on shouldor in the competition obviously shouldor you know very limited action last year in those seven starts through ten interceptions to just seven touchdowns to Sean's mark is much cleaner but
- 9:19[SPEAKER_03]: you can't be in an active live quarterback competition, turning the football over more than the other guy in this competition and expect to win it.
- 9:28[SPEAKER_03]: I don't care if you're a veteran quarterback who led the league in passing six years ago.
- 9:33[SPEAKER_03]: If you're throwing these mind-numbing
- 9:38[SPEAKER_03]: friend of program Cleveland.com's Dan Lobby through posted it on Saturday, he it looked like he was trying to throw a no look pass to Jack Stoll and it was floated up in the middle of the field forever and it was the easiest interception of all time like he absolutely can't keep doing this or else you're going to hear these calls for Shador Sanders get louder and louder and louder.
- 10:03[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah, you're absolutely right.
- 10:05[SPEAKER_01]: And of course, Shidorah's got a very loud fan base, not only Browns fans, but also this Buffalo fans and the people who've come on to Twitter and are really pushing the agenda for Shidorah Sanders.
- 10:16[SPEAKER_01]: And right now, it's pretty easy for him when you look at what Watson is doing, right?
- 10:20[SPEAKER_01]: To say, hey, look at Shidorah.
- 10:21[SPEAKER_01]: He deserves to have that number one spot and we'll see if that continues, but there's definitely a strong drum beat for him.
- 10:28[SPEAKER_03]: And it's just wild that like, it's not wild, it's predictable that Watson's continuing to just rest on this whole, you know, haven't been healthy.
- 10:38[SPEAKER_03]: I'm finally getting healthy back on the field for the first time since all of these injuries and it's like, well, dude, the last time we heard that.
- 10:46[SPEAKER_03]: was 2024.
- 10:46[SPEAKER_03]: You know, before he ruptured that Achilles injury, you know, that Achilles tendon twice, it was that, you know, the shoulder was finally healthy, just had to get back to the second half against Baltimore and he never found that.
- 11:01[SPEAKER_03]: And he was healthy in 2024 when he started those seven or eight games before he ruptured the Achilles twice.
- 11:08[SPEAKER_03]: And due to it wasn't just bad, like,
- 11:16[SPEAKER_03]: Where Stephansky had to burn the back-to-back time out and they couldn't even get the play-in to Watson's headset and he just walked off the field.
- 11:24[SPEAKER_03]: It's like they are seriously contemplating putting that guy on the football field and I think if anything,
- 11:31[SPEAKER_03]: as we're having this conversation here about Shidorah Sanders potentially pulling away from Deshawn Watson only in one week's time, well, Shidorah needs to start pulling away from Deshawn in this competition, because Deshawn has nothing left, like he looks like a quarterback, that's washed, you see a flash of brilliance, and then you see three or four of the worst plays that you've ever watched in your life.
- 11:55[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and there's no emotion and maybe that that strikes me more than anything else not only is play on the field, but also the fact that he doesn't seem to be as fired up, you know, he could see that the fan base is pretty darn pissed at the Cleveland Browns for the way they've handled this whole situation, both bring him in here and then the way that he's performed ever since he's gotten to Cleveland, the fact that we paid him all that money and he hasn't done a thing in Cleveland so far.
- 12:20[SPEAKER_01]: and he doesn't seem to reflect that in any way.
- 12:22[SPEAKER_01]: He just, as you said, continues to say, hey, I was injured and I'm trying to come back and keep couching things rather than saying, hey, listen, I'm sitting here right now.
- 12:32[SPEAKER_01]: I know that I haven't met the expectations of this fan base, this front office, this ownership group, this city, and I'm ready to take the next step this year.
- 12:42[SPEAKER_01]: I'll help out with Shidorah, but my job here is to be the franchise quarterback right now, and I'm going to take the rate and I'm going to take the leadership on this team, and we're going to win some ball games this year.
- 12:52[SPEAKER_01]: You haven't heard anything like that.
- 12:53[SPEAKER_03]: No, no, you haven't.
- 12:54[SPEAKER_03]: You haven't.
- 12:55[SPEAKER_03]: You haven't.
- 12:56[SPEAKER_03]: And what I also don't like Chris, how about if roles were reversed?
- 13:00[SPEAKER_03]: What if Shidorah was the one that threw six interceptions through his first four practices?
- 13:05[SPEAKER_01]: You'd have everybody trying to tell you, well, this competition's over.
- 13:08[SPEAKER_03]: See, there were those bad habits from last year, but when it's Watson throwing the interceptions, it's, oh, well, this guy's just getting healthy.
- 13:15[SPEAKER_03]: This guy's just, you know, getting into monkeys' offence for the first time after all of these years of defense.
- 13:21[SPEAKER_03]: You gotta pair that with him just finally getting healthy.
- 13:24[SPEAKER_03]: And it's like, no, I don't want
- 13:26[SPEAKER_03]: I've given to Sean Watts and all of the excuses, but I could possibly give them over these last four years and he hasn't done anything for the Cleveland Browns on the field or off of it So it is very hard for myself and a lot of you know Shidorah's fans and the very passionate crazy fans that Shidorah has out there to really understand like
- 13:47[SPEAKER_03]: What we're even doing in this competition because you got a guy that fits the timeline of this roster if he's he's a lottery ticket That if he hits and he's your quarterback you're off to the races with all of these extra draft picks in 2027 and 2028 You could really beef up this team around him get at the same time We're talking about a potential some kind of return on investment with the shot I just personally don't see it ever happening
- 14:14[SPEAKER_01]: Well, like you said, for some reason, there's this expectation to give to Sean the benefit of the doubt despite the fact he hasn't earned that at all.
- 14:21[SPEAKER_01]: But we're not giving the benefit of the doubt to sugar Sanders who, by the way, last year was his rookie season.
- 14:28[SPEAKER_01]: This is his second coach that he's going to have this year installing a new offense hasn't really gotten the kind of coaching that I think that he probably needs.
- 14:36[SPEAKER_01]: Now, he may not be good, but at the end of the day, he's still a young guy.
- 14:41[SPEAKER_01]: Give this guy a shot.
- 14:42[SPEAKER_01]: rather than making all these excuses for Deshawn Watson, who clearly has not proven it since he's been to Cleveland, is nowhere near the form he was at before.
- 14:52[SPEAKER_01]: I'm done with making excuses for Deshawn Watson at all.
- 14:55[SPEAKER_01]: And if I'm going to make any kind of an excuse or anybody, it'd be for Deshawn Earth for a Shidorah right now, because he's the guy, he's the young guy who's, you know, still trying to learn his way in the NFL.
- 15:07[SPEAKER_03]: If this is a fair competition,
- 15:11[SPEAKER_03]: If is the operative word, but if this is a fair competition, so far, Shidorah's you're starting quarterback, and it hasn't been pretty for either guy, there've been good moments, there've been bad moments for both guys, but the bad of Watson has outweight the good by a lot.
- 15:30[SPEAKER_03]: So to me, it's like if this trend continues and neither guy really pulls away,
- 15:36[SPEAKER_03]: The answer is right there.
- 15:37[SPEAKER_03]: The young and proven fifth round quarterback that can be your ticket out of this thing.
- 15:43[SPEAKER_03]: I just hope that they do the right thing and make that decision because if it's to Sean, I think you're going to have a hard time selling that to this fan base.
- 15:52[SPEAKER_03]: If he goes out there week one against the Jaguars and then week two in Tampa against Baker, the quarterback that you gave up on four to Sean and he looks bad.
- 16:02[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know that the
- 16:06[SPEAKER_03]: for the home opener week three against the Panthers.
- 16:09[SPEAKER_01]: Wow, that's an interesting thought.
- 16:11[SPEAKER_01]: Now the flip side of that is you put the Sean out there specifically to say, okay, this is it.
- 16:16[SPEAKER_01]: Let's see if you've got anything left.
- 16:18[SPEAKER_01]: And if that game, if Baker beats him and we're humiliated, then you say, okay, now we've clearly moved on at this point.
- 16:26[SPEAKER_01]: The bridges burned, he is done.
- 16:29[SPEAKER_01]: Unless there is some unforeseen injury that happens, we're not going back to the Sean Watson.
- 16:34[SPEAKER_01]: Shodor, it's your team at this point.
- 16:36[SPEAKER_01]: I see only way I could see it is if they're trying to basically expose to Sean Watson for what he is either a quarterback that we could actually get something out of which I don't think is the case or a fraud at this point in his career.
- 16:48[SPEAKER_01]: So that's the only reason I think you'd run them out there.
- 16:52[SPEAKER_03]: already.
- 16:52[SPEAKER_03]: Well, the Browns will be in paths today.
- 16:55[SPEAKER_03]: It's a pivotal day.
- 16:56[SPEAKER_03]: Remember, all the way back in Indianapolis, Todd Munkin said in a dream world, the Browns would have named their starter already.
- 17:06[SPEAKER_03]: Todd initially wanted to name that starting quarterback after spring practices after OTA's veteran mandatory midi camp.
- 17:15[SPEAKER_03]: He wasn't able to do so.
- 17:17[SPEAKER_03]: because he said he wanted to see both of these guys in pads.
- 17:20[SPEAKER_03]: The pads come on today.
- 17:22[SPEAKER_03]: The real work is going to begin for the Browns this week.
- 17:25[SPEAKER_03]: Last week, however, we heard from Browns owner Jimmy Hazelm and he made one thing very clear that the Browns are in a little bit of a rebuild, but they're not tanking.
- 17:36[SPEAKER_03]: Speaking for the first time since March, Browns owner Jimmy Hazelm said he believes that the Browns can win more.
- 17:43[SPEAKER_03]: then the projected five and a half games this season saying I take the over at the same time this off season the Browns traded miles Garrett you get back to your adverse you have one of the youngest rosters in football with three future draft picks in that deal.
- 18:00[SPEAKER_03]: What exactly are we expecting from the Browns in 2026 Chris because you've got an owner in Jimmy Haslam saying that he's taken the over on five and a half wins even though a couple of months ago They traded the guy that found them the only five games that they won last year.
- 18:19[SPEAKER_03]: I'm confused
- 18:20[SPEAKER_01]: That's exactly right and a lot of that's going to be predicated on the conversation we just had right it's going to be on whether we make the quarterback decision correctly and whether the quarterback that then takes the range for the Cleveland Brown is able to win some games and my contention is if we get a quarterback in there who could play average or even a little bit below average
- 18:41[SPEAKER_01]: This team will exceed five and a half wins because Nick, you look at it.
- 18:45[SPEAKER_01]: That defense, you already hit on it.
- 18:47[SPEAKER_01]: Sure Miles Garrett is gone, right?
- 18:49[SPEAKER_01]: We have Jared verse that fills in.
- 18:51[SPEAKER_01]: That is a nice replacement for Miles Garrett.
- 18:53[SPEAKER_01]: You get another year of Carson, Swesinger, continuing to lead that defense.
- 18:57[SPEAKER_01]: You've got two solid corners.
- 18:59[SPEAKER_01]: You like Mason Graham up front.
- 19:01[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, this is a good if not elite defense that we've had the last couple of years.
- 19:07[SPEAKER_01]: I look for that to continue.
- 19:08[SPEAKER_01]: On offense, you get Quinshawn Jenkins back at half back.
- 19:12[SPEAKER_01]: You know, the line we had to basically recreate in the off season, that's going to be a big question for us.
- 19:19[SPEAKER_01]: But I'm excited about those two new wider severs.
- 19:22[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, Boston concept she owned, we'll see what those guys could do if we can get anything out of bond and Jerry Judy if we could get anything out of him.
- 19:30[SPEAKER_01]: We could have an offense that can run.
- 19:32[SPEAKER_01]: but it's all going to be predicated on whether the quarterback can actually do something in this Cleveland Browns offense.
- 19:38[SPEAKER_01]: So if we could get a little bit of quarterback play neck, I could see over on five and a half and I could see it pretty easily.
- 19:44[SPEAKER_01]: If we don't, it could be another long year here in Cleveland.
- 19:47[SPEAKER_03]: And it is, I could see why Haslam wants to have that optimism.
- 19:51[SPEAKER_03]: And I actually believe them when he says that they're not punting on this season.
- 19:56[SPEAKER_03]: Do you believe
- 20:00[SPEAKER_03]: want to be a playoff team in 2027, but that doesn't mean by any stretch of the imagination that we're punting on 2026.
- 20:08[SPEAKER_03]: I kind of believe him because you went out there and re-tooled this offensive line with vets.
- 20:13[SPEAKER_03]: You extended Denzel Ward and Grant's help it to be a part of this thing long term.
- 20:17[SPEAKER_03]: Like I
- 20:17[SPEAKER_03]: I think the Browns have sold to themselves that they're exiting their rebuild, that they've got enough future draft picks, and a young roster that's going to have some cap space once the Sean Watson's off of it, I don't know if that's the right judgment or the wrong judgment.
- 20:32[SPEAKER_03]: The Browns consistently misjudge where they're at,
- 20:35[SPEAKER_03]: As an organization, that's what got them in this hellscape to begin with.
- 20:38[SPEAKER_03]: They misjudged the fact that they were a quarterback away in 2022.
- 20:42[SPEAKER_03]: They thought Deshawn could elevate everything around them as it turned out.
- 20:46[SPEAKER_03]: They needed more at receiver.
- 20:47[SPEAKER_03]: They needed an offensive line and Deshawn couldn't do it all by himself.
- 20:51[SPEAKER_03]: Do you believe Jimmy though, Winnie says that they're not in a rebuild right now, that they think they could be a playoff team in 2027?
- 21:00[SPEAKER_01]: I think ultimately the ownership goal for the Cleveland Browns is to be very competitive and a playoff team by the time they open that new stadium in 2029.
- 21:08[SPEAKER_01]: So you've got a couple of seasons here.
- 21:10[SPEAKER_01]: I think they're hoping we take a big step this season because that's what you're going to get through.
- 21:14[SPEAKER_03]: Here's another piece of that Chris.
- 21:16[SPEAKER_03]: It's going to be it's going to be 2021.
- 21:18[SPEAKER_01]: I've got to start.
- 21:19[SPEAKER_03]: You've got to start selling tickets now to that new building in 2029.
- 21:24[SPEAKER_03]: So I don't think they want to lose their way into that number one overall pick.
- 21:28[SPEAKER_03]: next year and I think that's where Shador could seriously play a role in this because you want to be good this year and next year so you could sell tickets before 2029 when that new building opens.
- 21:40[SPEAKER_01]: Well and I'll tell you the second thing.
- 21:42[SPEAKER_01]: I think the ownership of the Cleveland Browns has been embarrassed and they've been embarrassed so many times that they don't want to wait around for two years to be good and they know we can't just roll out of bed and be good in 2020
- 21:54[SPEAKER_01]: So you've got to have that breakthrough season at some point.
- 21:57[SPEAKER_01]: They're hoping that happens either this year or next year, either way is going to be fine.
- 22:01[SPEAKER_01]: And I don't think they're married to a quarterback.
- 22:04[SPEAKER_01]: Our major quarterback at Shader Sanders.
- 22:06[SPEAKER_01]: I think they're just going to roll with it.
- 22:08[SPEAKER_01]: You know, not wait for the draft.
- 22:09[SPEAKER_01]: So they want to be good right now, Nick.
- 22:12[SPEAKER_03]: All right, we do have a little bit of breaking news.
- 22:16[SPEAKER_03]: On Big Play Cleveland live, Chris.
- 22:18[SPEAKER_03]: We told everybody we would cut in and stop the Browns talk.
- 22:23[SPEAKER_03]: If the Guardians did something, did anything, and we have a move.
- 22:28[SPEAKER_03]: The Guardians are on the board.
- 22:31[SPEAKER_03]: According to MLB Insider John Hayman, the Guardians are acquiring.
- 22:38[SPEAKER_03]: outfielder joe Adele from the wasse angeles angels in exchange for catching prospect Jacob Kozart the Guardians Chris buyers at the MLB trade deadline adding a power bat in joe Adele to the equation are you moved
- 23:00[SPEAKER_01]: Hey, yeah, we wanted to see somebody in here.
- 23:02[SPEAKER_01]: This is a move, Joe Adele 27 years old.
- 23:06[SPEAKER_01]: God, it's amazing.
- 23:07[SPEAKER_01]: He was born in 1999, the first year that the Browns came back.
- 23:10[SPEAKER_01]: Man, I'm getting old as I look at it.
- 23:13[SPEAKER_01]: Right, Phil, there for the angels.
- 23:15[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, this is a guy through July 26th here.
- 23:19[SPEAKER_01]: His batting average is 225 over his career.
- 23:22[SPEAKER_01]: He's got 91 home runs, 285 runs, bad it in.
- 23:26[SPEAKER_01]: This is a guy who can hit a low pick, is this a little bit of a bat?
- 23:29[SPEAKER_01]: That's what we're looking for.
- 23:31[SPEAKER_01]: So, hey, this isn't going to be the type of move where you're getting Barry Bond's coming into the Cleveland Guardians organization, but this is the type of move that you get a young guy in here, the young guy who can hit at least that invigorate your offense a little bit, Nick.
- 23:45[SPEAKER_03]: And Joe Adele,
- 23:46[SPEAKER_03]: currently at this moment as he's probably getting the call from his agent that you're moving from Anaheim, California to Cleveland, Ohio, Joe Adele is the leader on the Cleveland Guardians in home runs with 16 that leads the Guardian.
- 24:02[SPEAKER_03]: So he's
- 24:02[SPEAKER_03]: You went out there and improved this lineup in a major way.
- 24:06[SPEAKER_03]: We obviously have to see the entire return in terms of what the Guardians got back.
- 24:11[SPEAKER_03]: But massive breaking news on the program as the Cleveland Guardians buyers at the MLB Trade Deadline, acquiring Joe Adele outfielder from the Los Angeles Angels
- 24:25[SPEAKER_03]: In exchange for right now, it seems like another catching prospect, and it's not Kooperingol.
- 24:30[SPEAKER_03]: They're keeping Kooperingol and Huff, the kid that they really like down there, Bo Nailer, Jettisoned, you're starting to see the Guardians clear up some of the log jams on this roster and to get a big bat like Odell at this deadline.
- 24:45[SPEAKER_03]: I think that's going to make fans pretty happy here, Chris.
- 24:48[SPEAKER_03]: And I think that's a ballpark that could have some more people in it for this next homestand because that was the big thing.
- 24:55[SPEAKER_03]: That was the big question coming into today.
- 24:57[SPEAKER_03]: Can you improve this league worst batting lineup?
- 25:00[SPEAKER_03]: They got their bullpen to help the other day in that nailer trade to Milwaukee where they get Craig Yoho back.
- 25:06[SPEAKER_03]: Joe Adele comes in with 16 homers.
- 25:08[SPEAKER_03]: That leads to guards in bombs.
- 25:10[SPEAKER_03]: This feels pretty good right now.
- 25:13[SPEAKER_01]: Also a lot of guardians fans may remember I was watching Sports Center back a few weeks ago where they were doing the top plays at the first half of the season top play Joe Adele robbing three home runs from the Seattle Mariners in one game for became the first ever player to do that back in April of this year.
- 25:31[SPEAKER_01]: So got a little bit of a glove got a flare for their dramatic.
- 25:34[SPEAKER_01]: So I like about in the field.
- 25:36[SPEAKER_01]: I like his bat.
- 25:37[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah.
- 25:38[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to give this one a thumbs up Nick.
- 25:40[SPEAKER_01]: already straight ahead.

- 26:36[SPEAKER_03]: former Cleveland Indians relief pitcher co-hosts of Vsans by the book's Jensen Lewis to react to the Guardian's blockbuster move.
- 26:46[SPEAKER_03]: They are trading for a bat.
- 26:48[SPEAKER_03]: Hallelujah, Joe Adele is coming to Cleveland.
- 26:50[SPEAKER_03]: We'll react to with Jensen straight ahead.
- 26:52[SPEAKER_03]: All right here on Big Play Cleveland Live YouTube.
- 26:55[SPEAKER_03]: Welcome on back into Big Play Cleveland Live right here free on the Big Play Cleveland YouTube channel presented by Fandwell.
- 27:03[SPEAKER_03]: We got a little bit of breaking news is the Cleveland Guardians are acquiring Joe Adele from the Los Angeles Angels.
- 27:11[SPEAKER_03]: Got 16 homeruns on this season.
- 27:13[SPEAKER_03]: It's time for bringing the heat.
- 27:15[SPEAKER_03]: with our guide, Jensen Lewis, former Cleveland Indians, pitcher, currently the co-host of Vsans by the books.
- 27:21[SPEAKER_03]: Jensen, thanks so much for joining us.
- 27:24[SPEAKER_03]: You're a media reaction as we've got a bat in Cleveland now that at least has hit 16 homerods on the season.
- 27:30[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 27:31[SPEAKER_02]: Exactly, and I think what was good is that it's better than we all thought they would do because I know I was on with you guys last time and did not look optimistic for them to acquire anything of impact or anything that would move the needle.
- 27:45[SPEAKER_02]: So This is better than expected.
- 27:48[SPEAKER_02]: Does it do enough?
- 27:50[SPEAKER_02]: No, but it's a good start and hopefully there's something outside of Joe Delo offensively to add, but this is a good start.
- 27:58[SPEAKER_03]: Jensen, what could this mean for Stephen Kwan's future in Cleveland?
- 28:03[SPEAKER_03]: Obviously, it looks like this is a trade where the guardians are only given up catching prospect in their farm system.
- 28:09[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know if that's the full return.
- 28:11[SPEAKER_03]: As we're on era trying to break this down, but I have seen a lot of people immediately point to Kwan's future as the deadline at 6 p.m. approaches could this be a foreshadowing or should this mean that Stephen's okay, what's your read on that?
- 28:27[SPEAKER_02]: I think that Juan is certainly going to be talked about if he was last year, then the way he's kind of come on here as of late with guarantee that at least teams are going to sniff around and say, oh, okay, can we kind of throw out what happened the first part of the season and is this more like, Juan, what we've seen in years past, I think you're going to hear much more as we get closer to around three o'clock if there's more bats.
- 28:47[SPEAKER_02]: they're going to end up moving on and just saw Taylor Ward is going to go to the mariners.
- 28:51[SPEAKER_02]: That's a big right hand and power battery, a bigger power bat.
- 28:55[SPEAKER_02]: That would look nice here in this Cleveland outfield.
- 28:58[SPEAKER_02]: But it looks like they set on a guy and Adele that at least they'll have the rest of this year next year.
- 29:04[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm kind of
- 29:06[SPEAKER_02]: front because you do need as much offense as possible.
- 29:09[SPEAKER_02]: If you're sending him, does that kind of mean you've bought and sold or you're looking at trying to sell him higher, knowing you're not going to extend him.
- 29:18[SPEAKER_02]: So that's the other dynamic at play here, knowing we're probably headed to the lock out and maybe no baseball next year.
- 29:23[SPEAKER_03]: yeah what did you make of what they did over the weekend let let's go back a couple days we could park Joe Adele for now because they were able to move on from a journeyman reliever uh... in coty here obviously bow nailer attached to that is the big name that guardians fans know in a move with the milawaki brewers to get credio ho in here and we've already seen him make his Cleveland debut
- 29:49[SPEAKER_03]: What do you think of that trade, Blake Perkins is going to start in Columbus?
- 29:54[SPEAKER_03]: We've already heard that.
- 29:54[SPEAKER_03]: His batting average is even his weight.
- 29:57[SPEAKER_03]: What you make in that deal, because that was the textbook definition of mixed reactions when you looked at what fans were saying about who won who lost that trade.
- 30:06[SPEAKER_02]: Well, yeah, right, it doesn't move the needle whatsoever, right?
- 30:09[SPEAKER_02]: We got plenty of relievers, and again, did you really need another guy?
- 30:13[SPEAKER_02]: I felt kind of redundant, but at this point, it feels like we have made a decision.
- 30:19[SPEAKER_02]: I would say at least a month or so ago, you know, about the Bonaylor future here, and that obviously coinciding with Patrick Bailey, he's going to be the guy here for the next handful of years.
- 30:29[SPEAKER_02]: We'll see what happens with hedgy after the year, but on the bottom wall of where they are,
- 30:36[SPEAKER_02]: I think it's just something to remember that the CBA here is going to factor in so much more of where teams are looking for controllable assets and cost controllable as far as they don't have to worry about excessive money and arbitration or there's already a cost-controlled multi-year deal that the player has signed.
- 31:00[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know if contracts will get grandfathered in as far as what the CBA could look like moving forward, the Nick, I do feel with watching what's transpired week in.
- 31:10[SPEAKER_02]: And what we'll probably see the rest of the day, most of the animals will probably go for the expiring contracts number one.
- 31:16[SPEAKER_02]: And if you are acquiring talent, it's not going to affect a quote unquote future salary cap.
- 31:21[SPEAKER_02]: If indeed, that's what happens as early as next year.
- 31:23[SPEAKER_03]: Well, when you look at what happened over the weekend with school will getting traded from Detroit right here in the American Lee central to the Dodgers, Jensen, I'm sure you saw the fallout from that with fans where a lot of people were just saying they're done with baseball, but then you saw the baseball people saying, oh, don't wait, they really only traded the Turkish school for four prospects, you know, this is, you make this trade because you really are only getting two months of
- 31:49[SPEAKER_03]: If you had to predict right now what the CBA does to that trade and are the Dodgers able to even keep that dude or what's that look like after next year?
- 31:59[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I think there's four things that there must be an opportunity here behind closed doors where the Dodgers made this acquisition, A, knowing that they have the best asset they're getting, B, the Boris client, this was going to be the destination that was top of nine for them and could offer them the most money.
- 32:20[SPEAKER_02]: And then that gets us to see where if they do sign an extension,
- 32:27[SPEAKER_02]: Then does that qualify to kind of use the grandfathering idea if it's 400 million just using round numbers and talking long term here maybe that was part of the design also though looking at if the Dodger able to have the deferrals come in to and maybe that plays a part of it too on being able to try and get not only the street done but the extension done all in the calendar year 2026.
- 32:53[SPEAKER_03]: Well, from one Boris Client to the next, you had to know this was coming after this weekend's outing from Gavin Williams, looked absolutely brilliant.
- 33:02[SPEAKER_03]: Jensen, obviously this is a guy that the Guardians should not be selling today, as he is a cornerstone piece, but what have you seen as an ex-picture at
- 33:13[SPEAKER_03]: what what does Gavin have going on right now because these last couple of starts have been absolutely incredible and then you saw the fight that almost took place because he had a perfect game going that was broken up by a bunch um but but he is on that level and that stratosphere in terms of MLB starting pitching right now he's just been brilliant.
- 33:33[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and honestly, the stuff, probably, the lab readings has been absolutely ridiculous, and I know it's five straight starts with ten or more strikeouts, but it's not only able to throw the two or three different fastballs between the two seem and foreseeing, adding the cutter, he was drafted knowing that you had the power of breaking ball.
- 33:55[SPEAKER_02]: And the cop was kind of a Garrett Cole 2.0 with stuff with physique with potential.
- 34:02[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, we're seeing the last five starts, Nick, right, that this is off of the echelon number one starter stuff, not only for the rest of this year, but hopefully this is a prelude of things to come, and he's the guy you build this rotation around, not only moving the next year, but you hope for the next decade.
- 34:19[SPEAKER_03]: doesn't feel like, especially with the move today to acquire Joe Adele and you've got this really strong starting pitching, kind of feels like they want to get serious about a playoff push.
- 34:31[SPEAKER_03]: We're in deadlines past, we've seen them right in the thick of things in the American League Central Division, and then they kind of fade and start selling some pieces that were not as big a fans of, but am I right in this correctly that we could be in for a
- 34:46[SPEAKER_02]: They're going to the try.
- 34:48[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, with what they have and again, it's the balance of what or how many of the top echelon prospects are they willing to move on from if they want to make a splash move.
- 35:01[SPEAKER_02]: Now I would put that at like 5% I don't expect them to make something of a deal that is earth shattering.
- 35:08[SPEAKER_02]: As I said, Adele is helpful because it balances a bit more of the left handed heavy lineup that we have now and you get a right hand a bat that'll lengthen the lineup or you can kind of pick and choose if you're Steven vote where you want to hit him at, I think we wait to see if there's any smoke around teams poking around Steven Kwan is he available and for what price would that be all that being said, the other bad I would look for would have been a Taylor Ward as far as teams that are looking to buy and sell.
- 35:37[SPEAKER_02]: He's going to be a mariner now, so that probably takes away most of the right-handed outfield power that you're looking for.
- 35:44[SPEAKER_02]: As far as the playoff run, and Nick, let's be honest, I mean Detroit did trade terrible, but just a couple of years ago, remember they traded jack flarity and they go wave the white flag, but all of a sudden go on the run and make the playoff.
- 35:57[SPEAKER_02]: So I think that Detroit is still in it.
- 36:00[SPEAKER_02]: I think there are other teams that are a couple of games out that are just going to say,
- 36:05[SPEAKER_02]: Let's see what we can do writing the needle on controllable assets if we are able to acquire them that would not affect this in a salary cap world should that be what we end up moving into early this next year.
- 36:17[SPEAKER_02]: But also you and I've watched enough baseball nick in this town that we're just a year removed from them having one of the more epic August and September's recent memory.
- 36:27[SPEAKER_02]: So what's to say 15 and a half is climbing ever so without an oxygen tank
- 36:31[SPEAKER_02]: They deserve in the final wild card spot entering the trade deadline today.
- 36:35[SPEAKER_02]: So boy, it's a lot different of an outlook from last year comparatively to this year.
- 36:40[SPEAKER_03]: I wonder, Jensen, if you're Chris Antonelli and Mike Churnoff, after this Joe Adele trade,
- 36:47[SPEAKER_03]: Could they stay aggressive?
- 36:49[SPEAKER_03]: Like they gave up the 74th catching prospect that they have on this Depth chart that's hyperbole, but they've got so many catchers.
- 36:57[SPEAKER_03]: You give up a distant prospect to get somebody that's hit 16 home runs.
- 37:01[SPEAKER_03]: Could they give up even more and kind of continue this by today?
- 37:05[SPEAKER_03]: Or is that overzealous?
- 37:08[SPEAKER_02]: I would hope that they would continue to try and poke around as many places to see what they could do more middle of the order impact.
- 37:16[SPEAKER_02]: I just don't know where those resources are going to be, let alone what the high asking cost is going to be this close to the deadline.
- 37:24[SPEAKER_02]: So let's give credit where it's due.
- 37:28[SPEAKER_02]: You did at least get a bat and and I was even headed into this morning with people I had talked to around the league and it didn't really sound like there was going to be much of a needle mover so This at least gets you a little more length in the order.
- 37:42[SPEAKER_02]: You get a guy that crushes left hand and pitching so far this year.
- 37:46[SPEAKER_02]: Hey, they start to catch a little lightning in a moment with Patrick Bailey at least.
- 37:50[SPEAKER_02]: That was a good sign.
- 37:51[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe they do the same here with Joe Dill.
- 37:53[SPEAKER_03]: Juds it as we're having this trade deadline conversation, you know, I brought up Stephen Kwan, you brought up Stephen Kwan.
- 37:59[SPEAKER_03]: That's just the name that's going to continue to be repeated until 6 p.m. Eastern.
- 38:05[SPEAKER_03]: What do you think like a package would look like if the guardians did decide that today was the day to move on from Kwan?
- 38:13[SPEAKER_03]: Because there's so much activity going on right now.
- 38:16[SPEAKER_03]: You mentioned Taylor Ward's been moved to Seattle.
- 38:23[SPEAKER_03]: I do wonder if trade happy day is here now that it is deadline day if they get a package that they really like for quannin your mind what would that need to look like.
- 38:33[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, so let's take the Adele one right now as I mentioned they have Adele for the rest of this year and his final year of arbitration next year, that's the same situation where Stephen Kwan is right and Stephen Kwan is nearly triple the salary of what Adele is this year or excuse me, double it.
- 39:03[SPEAKER_02]: I think aggressive they would want to be extend corn.
- 39:08[SPEAKER_02]: If they don't want to do that, then you know, it's a similar set up to where, and Adele would be just looking at the age, looking at the compensation, looking at the control.
- 39:18[SPEAKER_02]: And Stephen Cuan's going to be his age 29 season next year.
- 39:22[SPEAKER_02]: You have an extended him on the Cleveland front.
- 39:24[SPEAKER_02]: So you wonder where other teams appetite would be to do that.
- 39:28[SPEAKER_02]: that being said, I don't think it would be another worldly package, but it might be better than where you were at this point last year, as I said, club dependent and we'll kind of see what the rumors and where the smoke is here the next couple hours.
- 39:43[SPEAKER_03]: In terms of bullpen stuff, did you think that Craig Yoho acquisition was enough?
- 39:53[SPEAKER_02]: not really, but at the same time, that's why I go back to it's kind of redundant, right?
- 39:58[SPEAKER_02]: Unless they're a little more worried about strong staff and perhaps they are, and they're just not saying it.
- 40:04[SPEAKER_02]: And we've seen plenty of calf injury issues where guys just don't come back or they are a shell of themselves beforehand.
- 40:11[SPEAKER_02]: So perhaps this is more a move to cover themselves from an arm that is had a little bit of experience, but it's not a ton, again, you know,
- 40:21[SPEAKER_02]: going to be 27 towards the end of this season.
- 40:23[SPEAKER_02]: So just getting into where he made his debut and as a handful of service days, if you will.
- 40:31[SPEAKER_02]: I think they've already kind of figured out that they have their back end quartet if not adding a fifth there with Nebraska back from injury.
- 40:39[SPEAKER_02]: If they could get to me here and go and that kind of solves a lot of problems for them.
- 40:43[SPEAKER_02]: And Franco has been, man, he's been fun to watch and spurts, that dude is electric man.
- 40:48[SPEAKER_02]: So,
- 40:49[SPEAKER_02]: This is a typical anti netting churn off move.
- 40:51[SPEAKER_02]: Let's add to the sock pile and see if it works out.
- 40:54[SPEAKER_03]: All right.
- 40:55[SPEAKER_03]: He is Jensen Lewis.
- 40:56[SPEAKER_03]: You could follow him on social media at J. Lou 50 co-host.
- 41:02[SPEAKER_03]: Visa by the books.
- 41:03[SPEAKER_03]: Jensen, thanks so much.
- 41:04[SPEAKER_03]: A big big appearance for you today with with this Joe Adele trade.
- 41:09[SPEAKER_03]: So hopefully they stay active for us throughout the rest of the deadline day today.
- 41:13[SPEAKER_02]: I hope so too, buddy.
- 41:14[SPEAKER_02]: Keep it going and hopefully they get another bad as well.
- 41:16[SPEAKER_03]: I hope so.
- 41:18[SPEAKER_03]: We will keep you guys posted with Cleveland Guardians.
- 41:22[SPEAKER_03]: Deadline moves Joe Adele in the mix.
- 41:25[SPEAKER_03]: We will bring back Chris McNeil.
- 41:27[SPEAKER_03]: We will bring back the top dog hand for Dixon to who knows.
- 41:32[SPEAKER_03]: Maybe talk a little browns.
- 41:33[SPEAKER_03]: Maybe talk a little guards with the top dog who wanted to see them.
- 41:37[SPEAKER_03]: Get a big bat at the deadline.
- 41:39[SPEAKER_03]: I don't even know if hand for it even.
- 41:41[SPEAKER_03]: has been informed about this trade, so we'll find out straight ahead on Big Play Cleveland live.
- 41:47[SPEAKER_03]: Welcome back into Big Play Cleveland Live presented by fans.
- 41:53[SPEAKER_03]: I'm Nick Padone.
- 41:54[SPEAKER_03]: If you missed our last segment with Vsans by the books, Jensen Lewis, we had some breaking news to react to.
- 42:01[SPEAKER_03]: With our guy, Jensen is the Cleveland Guardians are on the board with the trade deadline maneuver acquiring Joe Adele outfielder from the Los Angeles Angels for a catching prospect.
- 42:12[SPEAKER_03]: That's it.
- 42:13[SPEAKER_03]: We bring in the top dog hand for Dixon.
- 42:17[SPEAKER_03]: who is absolutely jazzed a little bit more and popping that bar.
- 42:20[SPEAKER_04]: Your guardians got you a bat top dog.
- 42:22[SPEAKER_04]: You know what I'm kind of excited about it because I was sitting there at the whole time and I was watching trying to see whether and I was guessing whether or not we were going to make a move or do anything.
- 42:31[SPEAKER_04]: So I'm just glad to see this do something because especially the way how silent our bats have been lately and apparently this kid we got is pretty good prospect.
- 42:42[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, I had,
- 42:44[SPEAKER_04]: everybody thought he was going to have a better future than what he's been doing so far but when you look at his numbers this year, I know he's got some popping at bad he's got 16 home runs and I'm just trying to figure out what we're going to do with him obviously he's an outfielder what do we do we send David fry down do we send what's the young kid that we uh yeah he'd be happy he could it could it be a Stephen quandary but you know what he's
- 43:09[SPEAKER_04]: You guys know I get mad with the gardeners.
- 43:11[SPEAKER_04]: I love them and I hate them.
- 43:12[SPEAKER_04]: You know every time I get attached to a player I'd be damn if they don't send the player down and and I'll start it with a bit Christmas But you know what it's okay.
- 43:23[SPEAKER_04]: All I care about when we got to win yesterday five nothing we want and
- 43:29[SPEAKER_04]: The only sad thing is the damn white socks one yesterday too.
- 43:33[SPEAKER_04]: So, but that's all right.
- 43:34[SPEAKER_04]: We just got to go on a run.
- 43:35[SPEAKER_04]: We got to we got to do something but the pitching what about pitching here lately.
- 43:40[SPEAKER_04]: Oh my goodness other than the other night, but
- 43:44[SPEAKER_04]: But what is it, 10 strikeouts?
- 43:46[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, the starting rotation has been absolutely phenomenal.
- 43:50[SPEAKER_03]: Tanner, Bobby, you looked really good Friday, Gavin Williams looked really good yesterday.
- 43:55[SPEAKER_03]: So you see the piece is starting to come together and if Joe Adele could keep hitting home runs and Cleveland like he was in Anaheim, will at least be a little bit better off for it.
- 44:05[SPEAKER_04]: I have a question for you guys before we get to the baseball part.
- 44:09[SPEAKER_04]: I mean the football part of this whole thing You know you mentioned Tanner by I mean supposedly he's the age he's a guy we gave him new contract, too But I don't know I know you think he's you know, he's the best pitcher right now What do you guys think I don't think I think it's Gavin William right?
- 44:25[SPEAKER_03]: No, he's got paid like he's the age But I don't trust him like an ace Chris how about you?
- 44:32[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I like those three at the top between him and Parker Massick as well.
- 44:37[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, those three boy, I could see them starting a game one right now.
- 44:41[SPEAKER_01]: I know Parker obviously being the young guy out of that group, but man, from a starting pitching standpoint, we're pretty good shape right now.
- 44:49[SPEAKER_03]: All right, if we had to guess right now, before we flip over to football, I promise we're going to take hand for his brain about training camp.
- 44:56[SPEAKER_03]: If we had to guess right now Chris,
- 44:58[SPEAKER_03]: is Stephen Quann still on the Guardian's roster by 6pm, yes or no?
- 45:03[SPEAKER_03]: I think so.
- 45:04[SPEAKER_01]: I think so.
- 45:05[SPEAKER_01]: I think it may be a mistake to be honest with you.
- 45:08[SPEAKER_01]: If we get a really good offer for Stephen Quann, I think you make that move, but I think he's still going to be here.
- 45:15[SPEAKER_04]: Well, I disagree with both of you guys.
- 45:16[SPEAKER_04]: I, you know, Nick, I don't know how you feel and about this whole thing, but I like Stephen Kwan.
- 45:20[SPEAKER_04]: I want to see him continue to play on this team.
- 45:24[SPEAKER_04]: I want to see him batting number one because when you look at that guy, I mean, he finds a way.
- 45:30[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, obviously we know stumble.
- 45:31[SPEAKER_04]: He stumbled this year, but he's back on track.
- 45:34[SPEAKER_04]: I think the last 30 days, he's back on track.
- 45:36[SPEAKER_01]: He just killed it.
- 45:38[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, and he's he's playing extremely well and I do not want to get ready him.
- 45:43[SPEAKER_04]: I want to keep him on this team guys speaking of Monday Did you say Monday?
- 45:49[SPEAKER_04]: I have to say congratulations to Dan Zell Ward What did you guys see the numbers that he got?
- 45:56[SPEAKER_03]: I think it was two years 60 some million a high-estate quarterback top dog A Cleveland Browns history and NFL history for the second time in his career
- 46:06[SPEAKER_04]: Yes, yes.
- 46:07[SPEAKER_04]: I am so so happy for him.
- 46:10[SPEAKER_04]: I think he deserves every penny that he got and also I mean they're you know as far as in that secondary boy they're a pass and out some money but I think all I think I think those guys deserve every single but you know I just sit there and I just did I was in Lexington Kentucky this past weekend and I was doing something with Frank Minnafield and Frank just
- 46:36[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, I mean, we just sit there.
- 46:41[SPEAKER_04]: We just think about what we would have been worth today with that kind of money going on.
- 46:46[SPEAKER_04]: But we're not mad at them.
- 46:47[SPEAKER_04]: We're just really, really happy for those guys.
- 46:49[SPEAKER_04]: And again, we just think, Denzel, I think you deserve every single dime.
- 46:54[SPEAKER_03]: Top Dog from your view, especially knowing Denzel's story, then he was a Nordonia high school guy that went to Ohio State and then drafted by the Browns.
- 47:05[SPEAKER_03]: He's played all his football right here in Ohio.
- 47:08[SPEAKER_03]: Is there any hope for my generation of Browns fans that he could be this era's top dog?
- 47:14[SPEAKER_04]: I think so, I think he's already headed in there right now because when you look at it, when you look at the opposing teams when they come out, obviously, Dan Zell is going to take their best white receiver, and not only is he going to take that best white receiver, he's going to shut down that white receiver.
- 47:34[SPEAKER_04]: What he's got going for him also, we all know he can play, we all know he's a good corner.
- 47:43[SPEAKER_04]: but he's playing for a team right now his home town he's playing for the Cleveland Brown this is where he grew up this is where uh his roots are right here and uh and listening to the way he's been talking he doesn't want to go anywhere else he want to finish his career right here in Cleveland and I think uh I think I don't know whether we want to call him the top dog but we can give him some other name that's uh
- 48:09[SPEAKER_04]: You know just just equal to save as the top new dog.
- 48:13[SPEAKER_04]: New dog.
- 48:17[SPEAKER_04]: I like him.
- 48:17[SPEAKER_04]: I like the kid.
- 48:18[SPEAKER_04]: I watch I like this game and I watch the way he played speaking of that.
- 48:22[SPEAKER_04]: I have to tell you guys this I got a call from I was while I was down Friday.
- 48:29[SPEAKER_04]: I got a call from D on
- 48:31[SPEAKER_04]: uh... call me and uh... he just he wasn't he he said he i will get too far in the conversation but he just call me and said he was in town and uh... he wanted to reach out to me and uh... just uh... say what i meant to uh... his career how you watch him you know the way bumper run frank and i and uh... next time he come and down i say man just give me a call will uh...
- 48:54[SPEAKER_04]: We'll get together, but what you make of that?
- 48:56[SPEAKER_03]: Because that was a very cool scene in him out there as an observer, sitting in the stands, watching Chador, they had a really cool moment on the field after practice.
- 49:06[SPEAKER_03]: What you make in Coach Prime, making himself felt he were in Cleveland.
- 49:09[SPEAKER_03]: We obviously didn't get to see him last summer because Chador wasn't getting an opportunity, but now that he is getting that opportunity, I'm sure he mentioned to the conversation, he had to have been so proud to see his son up, you know,
- 49:24[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, you can and you could tell just listen to it in his voice how proud he is Of him and obviously for him to take the time to come down here and just watching Michelle him.
- 49:34[SPEAKER_04]: I'm not sure appreciate it because You know, he's he's got to be busy right now because trying to get his the Colorado team Ready for the season, but he has done a really good job
- 49:47[SPEAKER_04]: raising that kid you know a lot of people talk about you know a lot of people have some grapes with uh... should do or talking about he does that he's got to uh... on to rage and all that's leave him alone the kid is is still a young kid what is it twenty one twenty two years before the twenty four years old still uh...
- 50:05[SPEAKER_04]: still a young kid, I mean he's got so much room to grow and he's accepted Cleveland as his home and Dion is really, really proud of me.
- 50:16[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, obviously he should be a proud of me.
- 50:18[SPEAKER_04]: I'm just glad he.
- 50:20[SPEAKER_04]: took some time to come here and to support him to show that support because when a kid as young as should doer when he sees dad coming in especially in the stands over there watching his practices and want to see him do good that's all I just I just give praise to him.
- 50:37[SPEAKER_03]: top dog you play with some pretty good quarterback during your time here namely that Bernie cozer guy was pretty solid yeah what what is a quarterback have to do to earn the respect of a brown's locker room you know um you first of all you got a the quarterback is uh we call him divas because uh and they deserve that name
- 51:02[SPEAKER_04]: We call them that, but we respect them.
- 51:04[SPEAKER_04]: And when you, when you accord it back, you are the leader of the football team, not just the offense.
- 51:11[SPEAKER_04]: You are the guy that everybody looked at.
- 51:13[SPEAKER_04]: You are the guy that everybody expects to show the way.
- 51:17[SPEAKER_04]: And that's what a quarterback has got to do.
- 51:19[SPEAKER_04]: But number two, you've got to show that you can play.
- 51:22[SPEAKER_04]: You've got to show that you deserve to be that number one guy.
- 51:25[SPEAKER_04]: And we had Bernie Coesar.
- 51:26[SPEAKER_04]: It was really, really easy for us.
- 51:32[SPEAKER_04]: Brian Sight was the was a quarterback and I came that year right after they had the Red Right 88 and you guys remember those stories.
- 51:40[SPEAKER_04]: I was talking about I was sitting and watching that whole thing on TV and Cleveland I just shit.
- 51:45[SPEAKER_04]: I don't want to go to Cleveland.
- 51:46[SPEAKER_04]: It's too cold there, but they're a good football team
- 51:50[SPEAKER_04]: because I knew a lot of the guys that played on the football team, one in particular was I was in Newton because Ozzy's from a little small town called Muscle Shows Alabama and I'm from a little small town.
- 52:01[SPEAKER_04]: I saw the mobile call theater or Alabama, so we, you know, I kind of, I didn't know him, but I kind of knew of him and I got to, obviously I got to know him when I came to Cleveland and we became really, really close friends.
- 52:14[SPEAKER_04]: But the quarterback is the main guy like I say at Bryan's site, Paul McDonald was also a Gary Danielson was also one of the quarterbacks that we had and then eventually another home time guy talking about Bernie Cosa was a guy that took over.
- 52:30[SPEAKER_04]: But when Bernie took over, I mean, guys, he demand a respect not just on the football field, but in the locker room all over.
- 52:39[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, that's what a quarterback is got to do.
- 52:40[SPEAKER_04]: That's what a leader is got to do.
- 52:43[SPEAKER_04]: And
- 52:43[SPEAKER_04]: I like the guys that we have talking about should do or talking about Watson.
- 52:49[SPEAKER_04]: Obviously we got Taylor Green, I'm not gonna name the other guy, but you know, but I think I think between those two guys talking about should do her and Watson will find out who the main guy's gonna be and obviously that's up to Todd.
- 53:05[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know if you've seen I can't these last couple days you're but your boy Dillon Gabriel is coming on strong Lot of relationships doing Gabriel's dealing.
- 53:13[SPEAKER_03]: They're saying the streets are saying that the Dillon Gabriel the Cedric Tillman connection could be this generations and Brady to Randy Mazze Let me do correct.
- 53:25[SPEAKER_04]: I've let you jump on that one further before I go we can
- 53:29[SPEAKER_01]: A.
- 53:29[SPEAKER_01]: B.
- 53:29[SPEAKER_01]: Let's go.
- 53:30[SPEAKER_01]: I love it.
- 53:31[SPEAKER_01]: It's unbridled optimism.
- 53:33[SPEAKER_01]: We get going into campus.
- 53:35[SPEAKER_01]: We're just also excited about another Cleveland Browns season that we've already deliriously forgotten about everything that's happened in the past and we're just going full bore right now.
- 53:46[SPEAKER_01]: you got to understand that right from a fans perspective even as a player when you're friendly and these guys are just now putting on pads right what's it like when you're putting on pads for the first time you're really getting a chance to hit a little bit you're getting out there what's that like here top dog
- 54:04[SPEAKER_04]: Oh, it's, it's, it's so exciting because what you're going to see now, obviously, camp, you're going to see a lot more fights going on in training camp, because the guys are really, really going to compete.
- 54:17[SPEAKER_04]: Obviously, you're going to have the defensive line versus the offensive line.
- 54:21[SPEAKER_04]: My understanding, I think the other day, I think Sam Camira and Titus Hour.
- 54:25[SPEAKER_04]: I think two guys, I think they've already started in training camp, but also my understanding was,
- 54:33[SPEAKER_04]: that was a big, big thing that a lot of players didn't like because they were running back, quit Sean John's junk and hit.
- 54:40[SPEAKER_04]: He leveled my call, my call, my call, my call, my call, my call, my call, my call, my call, my call, my call, my call, my call, my call, my call, my call, my call, my call, my call, my call, my call, my call, my call, my call, my call, my call, my call, my call, my call, my call, my call, my call, my call, my call, my call, my call, my call, my call, my call, my call, my call, my call, my call, my call, my call, my call, my call, my call, my call, my call, my call, my call, my call, my call, my call, my call, my call, my call, my call, my call, my
- 55:01[SPEAKER_04]: running bags are not they're not off limits you know there's one player this off limit in training camp and that's quarterback you're not going to hit the quarterback you know that Nick you're not going to hit the quarterback but that you book but but to answer your question I mean everything it's all go you go from like a three to a ten right now with those paths on
- 55:20[SPEAKER_04]: I mean by that you're not gonna you're not trying to hurt anybody and anything like that But you want some good hard hits some good clean tackles because what you have to do You have to get ready for this season and everybody's gonna be tired.
- 55:31[SPEAKER_04]: It's gonna be hot out there and and and the frustration Timpers are gonna boil over and I love it because normally what is gonna be the offense versus the defense And you'll see a bunch of guys Great it's just going at it and I love it.
- 55:44[SPEAKER_03]: I love it
- 55:45[SPEAKER_03]: Top dog.
- 55:45[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know if you knew this, but you were mentioning that you and Frank were talking about Denzel's paycheck Yeah, being in the different times.
- 55:53[SPEAKER_03]: I googled this just for you.
- 55:55[SPEAKER_03]: Do you know how many padded practices?
- 55:57[SPEAKER_03]: They're allowed to have each summer
- 56:01[SPEAKER_03]: 16 only 16 practices in pads this summer for the Browns.
- 56:05[SPEAKER_04]: That's the thing that killed me because for when I was playing and when we had training camp if you had told us we only had 16 padded practices I mean we would be late.
- 56:18[SPEAKER_04]: I mean we would just be so happy because I mean we went at it when we say two days
- 56:25[SPEAKER_04]: every single day the morning practice and the evening afternoon practice evening practice we went full pads and I'm telling you it was full go full blow we went at it but 16 practices what the hell is going on we know we call them we say they're soft today they're they're going soft but then again
- 56:44[SPEAKER_04]: They say that they don't want them to get injured, but we kind of got injured if it's football If you're gonna get hurt you're gonna get hurt, but obviously you don't want anybody to get hurt But 16 practices.
- 56:55[SPEAKER_04]: That is absolutely insane
- 57:00[SPEAKER_01]: I said that top dog.
- 57:01[SPEAKER_01]: Do you like the trend from Todd Mocken?
- 57:04[SPEAKER_01]: He seems to be kind of a throwback.
- 57:06[SPEAKER_01]: So he's pushing a little bit on those boundaries getting these guys hit in a little bit more getting a little bit more like game activity.
- 57:13[SPEAKER_01]: Do you like to see that out of the bad coach?
- 57:17[SPEAKER_04]: I really do because you mentioned that Todd is an old-school guy.
- 57:21[SPEAKER_04]: He's an old-school quarterback and he was around when we had the tough tough practices and he's going to do everything in his power.
- 57:32[SPEAKER_04]: He's going to push it to the limit to get those guys ready to toughen those guys up.
- 57:37[SPEAKER_04]: And I like Todd, like I told you guys, I had a chance to talk to him a little bit.
- 57:43[SPEAKER_04]: And I'll just love his conversation, how he talks, and how he's coaches, and one thing about him, these coaches are not going to be able to get anything over on him.
- 57:53[SPEAKER_04]: But it's going to be, I can't wait to see what's going to happen between
- 57:59[SPEAKER_04]: this quarterback competition because I know right now they're throwing a lot of stuff at these guys in training camp.
- 58:05[SPEAKER_04]: They're trying to get that whole playbook in and my understanding the defense is much forehead right now as the offense I think as far as quarterbacks I think I think they're throwing like five interceptions already and guess who had three of them already.
- 58:24[SPEAKER_03]: What do you make that top dog because obviously monkey is tried to explain that like they're still in the installation process right now So he's tried to explain to the reporters that look, you know right now is the time to push the envelope a little with interceptions They can be used as learning lessons and right now There is really no debate that the defense is ahead of that offense that retooled the receivers They're rotating quarterbacks.
- 58:49[SPEAKER_03]: They're really
- 58:50[SPEAKER_03]: rotating pieces on the offensive line, but your defense is humming Denzel Ward's got a couple interceptions.
- 58:56[SPEAKER_03]: The defensive backs are flying around.
- 58:58[SPEAKER_03]: Jared versus living in the backfield.
- 59:01[SPEAKER_03]: Like it is early.
- 59:02[SPEAKER_03]: We're only four practices in, but what do you make of those reports that the defense is ahead of the offensive?
- 59:08[SPEAKER_04]: You know what, it's always that way in training camp, but the defense is always ahead of the offense.
- 59:15[SPEAKER_04]: You know what I wish still guys, I wish I could get into Todd's head.
- 59:21[SPEAKER_04]: What I mean by that is because,
- 59:23[SPEAKER_04]: think.
- 59:24[SPEAKER_04]: And I'm sure you guys may be thinking along the same lines.
- 59:27[SPEAKER_04]: I think that he's pretty much already knows who his starting quarterback is going to be.
- 59:33[SPEAKER_04]: And now I think it's up to whichever one he's got in his mind whether it's Watson or well or not is, um,
- 59:41[SPEAKER_04]: and which ever guy it is I think is up to the other guy to beat out the other one but I really believe that he's already got it set in his mind who the starting quarterback is going to be.
- 59:54[SPEAKER_04]: And it's getting, it's getting, it's getting heated up now with these pants on.
- 59:59[SPEAKER_04]: So I can't wait.
- 1:00:00[SPEAKER_04]: I have not, I have not been out to training camp yet, but I'm going to go out.
- 1:00:05[SPEAKER_04]: I'm going to go out this week a few times and just check them out and see what's going on for myself.
- 1:00:11[SPEAKER_01]: Now top dog, you said you think Todd Malkin's got an idea of who the starting quarterback is in his mind.
- 1:00:18[SPEAKER_01]: Right now, if you were a betting man, who would you say that would be?
- 1:00:24[SPEAKER_04]: I tell you who I'm going to say I want to be, I want it to be Sanders, I want it to be a question, I love you, you did just over here, I think I really, I really think and I hate to say this, I really think that he's leaning toward the Sean Watson.
- 1:00:44[SPEAKER_04]: I do.
- 1:00:46[SPEAKER_04]: And why I don't know, but I just, I, I just think our future is with the should doer.
- 1:00:53[SPEAKER_04]: I think we got to just play him, see what this kid can do, and let him go, especially, again, I talked about it, especially with the moves that we've made right now, and that offensive side of the ball, bringing in some help.
- 1:01:07[SPEAKER_04]: but I hope that should do her is the quarterback because I really want to see this kid uh... cc because well what do we do we gonna win a play to shunny then what we're going to do we're going to give him a new contract no way right now it's messy it's not clean like start the kid if it should or hits top dog you've got two first rompix next year
- 1:01:28[SPEAKER_03]: You got two second round picks the year after that.
- 1:01:30[SPEAKER_03]: You can choose up this roster.
- 1:01:33[SPEAKER_03]: If Shidorah Sanders is your franchise quarterback, and then maybe we off to the races with this thing, and Cody take the bronze to a place that they haven't been since the time you were in uniform.
- 1:01:43[SPEAKER_04]: I'm telling you guys this too.
- 1:01:45[SPEAKER_04]: Don't forget this kid, Taylor Green.
- 1:01:48[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, let's not forget him.
- 1:01:50[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, he's sitting over there and let him just soak up all the knowledge that he can.
- 1:01:55[SPEAKER_04]: Let him learn everything that he can learn because I think this kid has got the possibility of playing some quarterback for us, too, because the chances of, again, a quarterback going the full season without getting hurt, that's not going to happen.
- 1:02:12[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, because, hey, you look at these guys today that get hurt.
- 1:02:16[SPEAKER_04]: And we hope we want to see our quarterback last the whole season, but I think this kid Taylor Greene Maybe we may have something there, too.
- 1:02:23[SPEAKER_04]: So it's gonna it's gonna be exciting to see what's going on I can't wait until train camp is going guys.
- 1:02:28[SPEAKER_04]: I just I just I get so excited I can't even sleep anymore watching it.
- 1:02:32[SPEAKER_04]: So can you believe how fast this thing has come around?
- 1:02:35[SPEAKER_03]: It's coming to it's come so fat.
- 1:02:36[SPEAKER_03]: Could you believe how about I'll I'll you give me a can you believe I'll raise you?
- 1:02:40[SPEAKER_03]: Can you believe could you believe they play a preseason game next week?
- 1:02:43[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah
- 1:02:43[SPEAKER_04]: next week on Saturday the browns are back on the football field playing preseason football yeah because you got the uh... the hall of fame and ducks and can know that's going is that this week this week all day all that's all that's going on so uh... like i say football is back and uh... and i just want to tell Todd i have about
- 1:03:07[SPEAKER_04]: Seven plays in me.
- 1:03:08[SPEAKER_04]: If you need seven plays, I have seven in me, but make sure the safety is over top.
- 1:03:13[SPEAKER_03]: Okay.
- 1:03:14[SPEAKER_03]: Okay.
- 1:03:15[SPEAKER_03]: You what you jump at or hate me over top, which one?
- 1:03:17[SPEAKER_04]: Your bubble matter.
- 1:03:18[SPEAKER_04]: Just make sure make sure somebody's over top of me because if I missed that bubble run, they can run by me dog, so you know what I'm ready to go.
- 1:03:28[SPEAKER_03]: All right, so we started this segment with Hanford with a little bit of breaking guardians news, Joe Adele, we wrap up this segment, Hanford.
- 1:03:35[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know that you're going to love this.
- 1:03:37[SPEAKER_03]: A quote from Todd Monkin, saying that if Dylan Gabriel keeps putting deck together good days in training camp, he could potentially get more reps in this competition.
- 1:03:46[SPEAKER_04]: Well, you know, he's got to say that.
- 1:03:48[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, he's got to say that.
- 1:03:50[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, and and Dylan again, I say it.
- 1:03:54[SPEAKER_04]: I like the kid.
- 1:03:55[SPEAKER_04]: I think he's a good kid.
- 1:03:56[SPEAKER_04]: He's a smart kid, but I saw enough of Dylan last year.
- 1:04:00[SPEAKER_04]: I saw him and I watched him and and it just I just didn't see.
- 1:04:05[SPEAKER_04]: uh... him being the future quarterback are the quarterback a backup quarterback for the Cleveland Browns and i have nothing against him i i just don't see it i i think we made a mistake by drafting the kid in the third round and who knows maybe you know uh... he'll be somewhere else uh... maybe back up or a starting for somebody else uh... god bless him i wish him all the best but i just can't see him as a quarterback uh... for the Cleveland Brown and watch out
- 1:04:35[SPEAKER_01]: You probably went before we let him go.
- 1:04:38[SPEAKER_01]: He did pick my interest a little bit earlier when you mentioned you did talk to Deion.
- 1:04:43[SPEAKER_01]: Are there any anecdotes that you can share from that conversation with everybody about kind of the thought process with him and his son?
- 1:04:52[SPEAKER_04]: No, I'm not going to get into that shit dog.
- 1:04:56[SPEAKER_04]: I'm not going to get into the conversation, you know, but But you almost got me Chris you almost got me you almost got me you almost got me
- 1:05:10[SPEAKER_01]: I just had on for a second, I know it's normally weird, but I had to ask the question, if you can't get notes that you could share.
- 1:05:17[SPEAKER_01]: I know that there's probably a fantastic I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall for those type of conversations.
- 1:05:23[SPEAKER_01]: Right, right, right.
- 1:05:25[SPEAKER_01]: Offing it up, the one legend son happens to play quarterback for the Cleveland Browns.
- 1:05:30[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, that to me is just absolutely fascinating.
- 1:05:32[SPEAKER_01]: So I had to ask the question with all due respect their top dog.
- 1:05:35[SPEAKER_04]: You got it, my friend.
- 1:05:36[SPEAKER_03]: Something tells me we might get a coach prime and handford link up in real life here in Northeast Ohio.

- 1:06:52[SPEAKER_03]: I'm Nick Padone.
- 1:06:53[SPEAKER_03]: We have had a absolutely packed show Chris McNeill hanging out with me as well.
- 1:07:00[SPEAKER_03]: We just wrapped up with the top dog hand for Dixin who's probably going to conduct
- 1:07:04[SPEAKER_03]: more business with coach Prime Deon Sanders, Jensen Lewis joined us at 1230 to react to the big move in the baseball streets.
- 1:07:14[SPEAKER_03]: Here in Northeast Ohio is the Cleveland Guardians are on the board on Deadline Day acquiring Joe Adele from the Los Angeles Angels.
- 1:07:24[SPEAKER_03]: Chris, it was really nice to see a guard's trade work at its home.
- 1:07:27[SPEAKER_03]: talk a little bit more guards before we wrap up the show, but before we do, we got to squeeze in just a smidge of calves, if there's been a lot of criticism pointed in the direction of Colby Altman for not being able to land the LeBron James.
- 1:07:43[SPEAKER_03]: playing, uh, but are the cows really deserving of all of this blame?
- 1:07:48[SPEAKER_03]: You guys had Sanamico longtime basketball reporter here in Northeast Ohio on the program on Friday and Sam waiting on if the calves fans are being too critical on Kobe Altman this offseason.
- 1:08:04[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think.
- 1:08:05[SPEAKER_00]: that meeting with LeBron really swayed him one way the other.
- 1:08:10[SPEAKER_00]: Listen, we all know as best friends the Brandon Weems who's in the cast front office or one of his great friends.
- 1:08:17[SPEAKER_00]: And you know, I don't think his decision was based on any of that stuff.
- 1:08:21[SPEAKER_00]: It was
- 1:08:22[SPEAKER_00]: He went to a team in Philadelphia, where their new acquisition, J.L.
- 1:08:28[SPEAKER_00]: and Brown, trashed his son.
- 1:08:30[SPEAKER_00]: So listen, it wasn't, it wasn't, I don't think the caps could have done anything more than what they did, which is,
- 1:08:40[SPEAKER_00]: We're home.
- 1:08:41[SPEAKER_00]: We were in the Easter conference finals last year.
- 1:08:44[SPEAKER_00]: We fully intend to improve the roster.
- 1:08:47[SPEAKER_00]: We've got to make some additions after losing Dean Wait and T.N.
- 1:08:52[SPEAKER_00]: Ellis and Larry Nash Jr. for what that's worth.
- 1:08:56[SPEAKER_00]: But I just think the cabs, they did as much as everybody else.
- 1:09:04[SPEAKER_00]: And I think they did the right thing by not going above and beyond.
- 1:09:09[SPEAKER_03]: All right, Sam and Mikko doesn't mind that the calves weren't able to convince Lebron to come back, you know, referencing that they wanted to hold on to mobile, he didn't flip them to the box for Yannas, didn't flip them to Boston for Jalen Brown.
- 1:09:24[SPEAKER_03]: Chris, what are your thoughts when you hear that clip?
- 1:09:27[SPEAKER_01]: I was waiting for one of the multiple times that he named checked you Nick because several times through that interview he was saying, I know Nick but don't believe this but and then he'd go and say something completely contrary to what you believe because I know you in particular feels that the calves really bummed and dropped the bag on this one because they didn't land
- 1:09:56[SPEAKER_01]: of the belief to give the calves more of a benefit of the doubt, because you look at it, they did meet with Lebron back early July.
- 1:10:04[SPEAKER_01]: They made that attempt.
- 1:10:05[SPEAKER_01]: Although they didn't make personnel decisions that would have lured Lebron here, I feel that that maybe there was a part of them that felt okay, if we're only making these moves for Lebron, what happens if Lebron doesn't come here.
- 1:10:19[SPEAKER_01]: And so I think that's what was a part of the thinking, but now I'm eager Nick to see what is the move?
- 1:10:24[SPEAKER_01]: What is the plan B?
- 1:10:26[SPEAKER_01]: And up until this point, Mario, that's about it.
- 1:10:29[SPEAKER_01]: That really doesn't move the needle for me.
- 1:10:31[SPEAKER_03]: No, and that's where I'm at.
- 1:10:33[SPEAKER_03]: And that's where a lot of my frustration with the calves gets baked into this because like, okay, like you missed out on the brun.
- 1:10:41[SPEAKER_03]: That on its surface, I could live with.
- 1:10:43[SPEAKER_03]: It's the fact that a lot of these teams in this Eastern Conference significantly improved this off season and the Cavs did nothing and it's that the Cavs had a stage set for a LeBron James return as this Eastern Conference was improving around them and they still did nothing.
- 1:11:01[SPEAKER_03]: Like I look at the contenders in the East, the Raptors had the Cavs on the ropes there in the playoff.
- 1:11:09[SPEAKER_03]: with wobbly legs and they're trying to get quite Leonard the sixers had a huge offseason with Jalen Brown who's Want a championship in Lebron who's want a championship the heat are finally above that fringe playing team and probably into actual playoff team territory with Adabayo and Janice paired together the Pacers are getting Haliburton back and we remember how that we
- 1:11:32[SPEAKER_03]: went for the Cavs, a couple of post-season's ago, the NYX or the Champs, and we watched what they did to the Cavs in the Eastern Conference Finals.
- 1:11:41[SPEAKER_03]: I just don't have a great feeling about the current state of Cavs basketball, because they haven't elevated their team to the championship ilk as their contenders in the Eastern Conference, and their adversaries in the Eastern Conference have done so, and then I'm starting to read over the weekend potential rumors about Kevin Durand, the Detroit
- 1:12:02[SPEAKER_03]: I just don't love the inactivity when you lost in Wade you lost Keon Ellis and the rest of these teams around you are getting proven championship level talent.
- 1:12:12[SPEAKER_03]: It does make me a little bit nervous and I do kind of put LeBron's decision on the calves because if you would have just improved the roster of smidge, I still think you would have been back.
- 1:12:24[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and I agree with that.
- 1:12:26[SPEAKER_01]: And right now, it's frustrating.
- 1:12:27[SPEAKER_01]: We talked about this before.
- 1:12:29[SPEAKER_01]: You know, just as a fan, who's watched this team over the last few years, he watched the regular season and to get geared up for another season, where it's just kind of like, hey, we're going to run it back.
- 1:12:40[SPEAKER_01]: this year once again.
- 1:12:41[SPEAKER_01]: And I know you made the move last year with hardened.
- 1:12:44[SPEAKER_01]: So there's a little bit of a difference there.
- 1:12:46[SPEAKER_01]: But for the most part, adding Mario, you're just basically running it back.
- 1:12:50[SPEAKER_01]: So it doesn't bring that added level of excitement.
- 1:12:53[SPEAKER_01]: And to your point, I think you do fall behind in the eastern conference.
- 1:12:57[SPEAKER_01]: And.
- 1:12:58[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 1:12:59[SPEAKER_01]: It's going to be tough as we lead up to the season.
- 1:13:01[SPEAKER_01]: I hope they've got some tricks up their sleeves because as a fan, I'm not excited as we sit right now beginning of August.
- 1:13:08[SPEAKER_01]: Hopefully by the time we get to October Nick, we're going to have something more to be excited about with this Cavs team because right now that that excitement is it's zero.
- 1:13:17[SPEAKER_03]: There are some reports out there that they're still hard and still hasn't even resigned yet.
- 1:13:22[SPEAKER_03]: So they're still trying to figure out this sign and trade for Jonathan Kominga to pair with his Zonia obviously would give you more length at the wing, Peyton Watson who started a lot of games at Small Ford.
- 1:13:33[SPEAKER_03]: For the Denver Nuggets, he's somebody that's younger and probably fits the type of move that Altman would want to make.
- 1:13:39[SPEAKER_03]: Um, just because he, you know, can be traded for and then extended on a longer term deal to be the starting small forward here in Cleveland, but dude right now like you're looking at max through starting the three you're starting looking at, you know, really being at a major disadvantage at a very important position when the rest of the east got a lot of premiere wings.
- 1:14:01[SPEAKER_03]: LeBron is still really good.
- 1:14:02[SPEAKER_03]: You know, yeah, quite is still really good.
- 1:14:05[SPEAKER_03]: Jalen Brown and LeBron together.
- 1:14:07[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know how to capture even going to
- 1:14:08[SPEAKER_03]: Think about defending that because of the athleticism that they're going to have on the outside wing Chris is there a move that's out there that would excite you the rest of this the rest of the way for the calves because they've been linked to commingo Watson something's got to shake through more so than what they've done to date right.
- 1:14:26[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I thought Camingo was kind of a feta-complete, but, you know, as more time goes on, you wonder, oh, is that actually going to happen?
- 1:14:32[SPEAKER_01]: So I think you do need to shake it up with a move.
- 1:14:35[SPEAKER_01]: I think you've got to get something in here.
- 1:14:36[SPEAKER_01]: You've got to get some new blood.
- 1:14:38[SPEAKER_01]: You know, we've been talking about the wings and being able to upgrade there.
- 1:14:41[SPEAKER_01]: And we just haven't seen it at this point.
- 1:14:44[SPEAKER_01]: And as funny as it may sound to hear,
- 1:14:47[SPEAKER_01]: The loss of Dean Wade, and there are many times where I'd rip on Dean Wade here, but that guy was a pretty darn solid player.
- 1:14:54[SPEAKER_01]: He could play defense for us.
- 1:14:56[SPEAKER_01]: He could spot start.
- 1:14:57[SPEAKER_01]: We talked about him in the playoffs and the way that, you know, when Struz wasn't the guy that we wanted him to be, you bring him in and you'd have a different look there.
- 1:15:05[SPEAKER_01]: So,
- 1:15:06[SPEAKER_01]: I don't like the fact that we lose those incremental pieces without adding anything.
- 1:15:10[SPEAKER_01]: So I don't know that there's a big move that's really going to bring me back to the table.
- 1:15:14[SPEAKER_01]: But you know, ultimately Nick, we always buy into this team.
- 1:15:17[SPEAKER_01]: And once we get close to tip off there in October and I'm sure they're going to have some move for us.
- 1:15:22[SPEAKER_01]: But right now we're kind of at a low as we sit in August.
- 1:15:27[SPEAKER_03]: So I put out there on calves on SI and it got aggrated and people killed me for it.
- 1:15:32[SPEAKER_03]: I'd go get Kevin Durant.
- 1:15:34[SPEAKER_01]: I saw the Kevin Durant.
- 1:15:35[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't think you were going to talk more about the KD stuff.
- 1:15:38[SPEAKER_01]: That would be an interesting one.
- 1:15:40[SPEAKER_01]: You talk about bringing interest to Cleveland.
- 1:15:42[SPEAKER_01]: You get Kevin Durant here.
- 1:15:44[SPEAKER_01]: Oh my gosh, all of a sudden that goes through the roof.
- 1:15:47[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if that's going to happen Nick, but certainly from an interest in just kind of at an outside or even an interest for the rest of the country, that would be interesting in Cleveland.
- 1:15:57[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know that that exactly fits with our plans and the way we're trying to build this thing.
- 1:16:01[SPEAKER_01]: Kind of the right way from the inside while adding pieces.
- 1:16:04[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know that Durant doesn't totally throw you off tracks when it comes to that.
- 1:16:08[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, yeah.
- 1:16:08[SPEAKER_03]: I don't think it's something that they would do.
- 1:16:10[SPEAKER_03]: I think it's something they should do.
- 1:16:12[SPEAKER_03]: similarly though at the start of the show we were talking about the guardians they should have acquired a big bat they did acquire a big bat Chris we do want to give you an opportunity to have some parting thoughts as the news is official we're welcoming to Cleveland
- 1:16:30[SPEAKER_03]: Outfield or Joe Adele is going to be joining the organization here shortly.
- 1:16:34[SPEAKER_03]: They're able to pull off the trade for a catching prospect that honestly I never even heard of before.
- 1:16:41[SPEAKER_03]: One breedos get to get DFA in this thing, so that's how they're going to make the roster math work in the immediate but Chris, they're on the board with the bat.
- 1:16:49[SPEAKER_03]: You heard Jensen say that he hopes they're not done.
- 1:16:51[SPEAKER_03]: This feels like a big step in the right direction though.
- 1:16:54[SPEAKER_03]: When you bring in a guy that's going to be the leader in the clubhouse in homerons.
- 1:16:58[SPEAKER_01]: you talked about it as soon as this trade went down to Joe Adele becomes the leader for the Cleveland Guardians and home runs.
- 1:17:05[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I'll add this not only home runs, but also RBI and hits for the Cleveland Guardians.
- 1:17:10[SPEAKER_01]: Your leader as of right now is the newly acquired Joe Adele.
- 1:17:14[SPEAKER_01]: I'm excited about that.
- 1:17:16[SPEAKER_01]: He's actually kind of a low level defender, although he's got that unbelievable three pack of catches of robbing home runs there against Seattle back in April.
- 1:17:28[SPEAKER_01]: But overall, what we're looking for is that bat, right Nick?
- 1:17:32[SPEAKER_01]: And we got a bat there.
- 1:17:33[SPEAKER_01]: I hope we're not done.
- 1:17:34[SPEAKER_01]: I'm really encouraged by the fact that we were able to kind of create something out of nothing because we didn't give up hardly anything for this.
- 1:17:41[SPEAKER_01]: That's a really nice move by our front office.
- 1:17:44[SPEAKER_01]: I got to give him kudos for that one.
- 1:17:46[SPEAKER_01]: And I've got to also ask them, don't be done.
- 1:17:49[SPEAKER_01]: Please add some more.
- 1:17:50[SPEAKER_01]: I'd like to see bullpen help.
- 1:17:52[SPEAKER_01]: And I'd still like to see maybe another little move for a back get somebody else in here.
- 1:17:56[SPEAKER_01]: And then we'd really be competitive, I think, in this AL.
- 1:18:00[SPEAKER_03]: I am very curious to see what this means for the Cleveland Guardians and their playoff chances.
- 1:18:04[SPEAKER_03]: I'm curious to see what this means for really the rest of the trade deadline day.
