- 0:02SPEAKER_00: Hello,
- 0:02SPEAKER_00: hello and welcome back to Whispers of Inner Power,
- 0:06SPEAKER_00: the interview series for highly sensitive women in business.
- 0:09SPEAKER_00: I am so excited today because I have someone very special with me.
- 0:15SPEAKER_00: You may know her as the Fresh Princess
- 0:18SPEAKER_00: She's an email strategist,
- 0:20SPEAKER_00: keynote speaker,
- 0:21membership owner with over 4,000 members and someone who has
- 0:25built not one,
- 0:27SPEAKER_00: not two,
- 0:28SPEAKER_00: but three successful businesses.
- 0:30SPEAKER_00: Please welcome Liz Wilcox.
- 0:32SPEAKER_00: Liz, please, how are you today?
- 0:34SPEAKER_00: How are you doing?
- 0:34SPEAKER_00: Thank you so much for being here.
- 0:36SPEAKER_01: Hey friends, you're welcome.
- 0:37SPEAKER_01: Thank you for having me.
- 0:38SPEAKER_01: Thank you for listening and watching.
- 0:40SPEAKER_01: I can't wait to dig in today.
- 0:43SPEAKER_00: That's so good.
- 0:45My first question is to know a little bit more about your story
- 0:50kind of before all
- 0:51SPEAKER_00: of this success.
- 0:53SPEAKER_00: If you take us to the beginning,
- 0:55SPEAKER_00: what was life like and what made you think,
- 0:57SPEAKER_00: okay,
- 0:58SPEAKER_00: I'm going to build something of my own?
- 1:00SPEAKER_01: Listen, y'all, life was not good.
- 1:04SPEAKER_01: What made me think I needed to build something of my own?
- 1:06SPEAKER_01: I had a toddler.
- 1:08SPEAKER_01: I lived in an RV, a caravan, you know, travel trailer.
- 1:13SPEAKER_01: And I just wanted more,
- 1:14SPEAKER_01: you know,
- 1:15SPEAKER_01: I wanted to take that home on wheels and start moving them,
- 1:19SPEAKER_01: right?
- 1:20SPEAKER_01: And so I lived in this RV.
- 1:22SPEAKER_01: I didn't even have internet on my phone.
- 1:25SPEAKER_01: But I believed in the power of the internet, right?
- 1:28SPEAKER_01: I believed people when they said,
- 1:29SPEAKER_01: oh,
- 1:29SPEAKER_01: yeah,
- 1:30SPEAKER_01: you can make money on the internet,
- 1:33SPEAKER_01: you know,
- 1:33SPEAKER_01: writing and selling your own products.
- 1:36SPEAKER_01: And I didn't really know where to start.
- 1:38SPEAKER_01: But I figured, hey, you know, my goal is to move this RV one day.
- 1:42SPEAKER_01: We were stationary at the time.
- 1:43SPEAKER_01: We weren't moving around.
- 1:45SPEAKER_01: But that was the goal.
- 1:45SPEAKER_01: So I said,
- 1:46SPEAKER_01: okay,
- 1:46I'm going to start a blog about RV travel and I'll share my
- 1:50journey to traveling,
- 1:52SPEAKER_01: right?
- 1:53SPEAKER_01: And everybody and their mother,
- 1:55SPEAKER_01: I would listen to amazingly smart people like Jessica and I would say,
- 1:59SPEAKER_01: they would say,
- 1:59SPEAKER_01: you know,
- 2:00SPEAKER_01: Start your email list, start your email list.
- 2:03SPEAKER_01: And so I just started my email list.
- 2:05SPEAKER_01: You know,
- 2:05SPEAKER_01: the same day I started my blog,
- 2:07SPEAKER_01: I launched the email list because again,
- 2:10SPEAKER_01: life did not look good.
- 2:12SPEAKER_01: I didn't want to live in a campground forever.
- 2:14SPEAKER_01: I didn't want to, you know, my mom didn't get past eighth grade.
- 2:19I've been supporting her financially since I was 16 years old,
- 2:23either part-time or full-time.
- 2:25SPEAKER_01: And I didn't want that for my toddler one day.
- 2:27SPEAKER_01: So I just got going.
- 2:30yeah I love that thank you so much for for sharing it also
- 2:34shows and it's it's so
- 2:36many stories you know about successful people that the origin
- 2:39stories there's
- 2:41always something that makes you say or feel like I want better
- 2:47for myself and so
- 2:48there's no plan b I'm going to make it happen I love that yeah
- 2:53no plan b there was
- 2:54SPEAKER_01: no plan b y'all because
- 2:56Uh I didn't I you know I just told you my mom didn't get past a
- 2:59certain grade right
- 3:00and there was there was no one else coming to save me I mean I
- 3:05I was married at the
- 3:06time he was in the military uh and he thought I was losing my
- 3:11mind he thought oh my
- 3:13gosh Liz you're getting scammed the only way to make money on
- 3:16the internet is to do
- 3:18SPEAKER_01: you know maybe illegal things if you know what I'm saying um
- 3:22SPEAKER_01: You know, there's no way.
- 3:25SPEAKER_01: What makes you so special?
- 3:26SPEAKER_01: Like I said, then husband, we're not married anymore, right?
- 3:30SPEAKER_01: So I didn't even have people that were believing in me, right?
- 3:33SPEAKER_01: I had people telling me, that's crazy.
- 3:35SPEAKER_01: You're being scammed, etc.
- 3:37SPEAKER_01: So there was no plan B. I had to do this thing.
- 3:42SPEAKER_00: Right, right.
- 3:43SPEAKER_00: And so you are very famous for your incredible energy.
- 3:47You're warm,
- 3:47you're direct,
- 3:48there's zero apology,
- 3:49you just take the space.
- 3:51Were you always this way or is that something that you had to
- 3:54work on and somehow become?
- 3:57SPEAKER_01: Work, work, work, work, work, work.
- 3:59SPEAKER_01: It's a theme of my life.
- 4:01SPEAKER_01: When you think the work is done, there is more work to be done, right?
- 4:05SPEAKER_01: So y'all, believe it or not,
- 4:08SPEAKER_01: I was mute until the age of seven.
- 4:11SPEAKER_01: I did not speak.
- 4:12I was so terrified of my own shadow as a child that I literally
- 4:18could not use my voice,
- 4:19right?
- 4:19SPEAKER_01: Jessica has jaws on the floor.
- 4:21SPEAKER_01: You would never believe in your life.
- 4:24SPEAKER_01: You would never believe in your life.
- 4:25SPEAKER_01: But I'm visiting my brother right now.
- 4:28SPEAKER_01: If he was here, he would be like, yeah, she did not speak.
- 4:33SPEAKER_01: It's actually insane.
- 4:34SPEAKER_01: So it was always a work in progress to find my voice.
- 4:38SPEAKER_01: And my mom,
- 4:39SPEAKER_01: when I was in the seventh grade,
- 4:40SPEAKER_01: you know,
- 4:41SPEAKER_01: she wasn't very educated,
- 4:42SPEAKER_01: but she was very wise,
- 4:43SPEAKER_01: y'all.
- 4:44And she said,
- 4:44you know,
- 4:45Liz,
- 4:45I was staying home because I was sick from school.
- 4:48She said,
- 4:49you know,
- 4:49Liz,
- 4:51the more you try to be like everyone else,
- 4:53the sicker you get.
- 4:55SPEAKER_01: And I don't know, my little 12-year-old self, something stuck.
- 4:58SPEAKER_01: And I thought, she's right.
- 5:00SPEAKER_01: I don't have that many friends anyway.
- 5:03SPEAKER_01: So I might as well be myself because I'm tired of being sick.
- 5:06SPEAKER_01: I was a really sick child, always staying home from school.
- 5:10SPEAKER_01: And I just started to lean into who Liz was, right?
- 5:14Like it or not,
- 5:15because you apparently don't like it anyway,
- 5:17these little other seventh graders.
- 5:19SPEAKER_01: So I might as well just be myself.
- 5:21SPEAKER_01: And very slowly...
- 5:23SPEAKER_01: Throughout school,
- 5:24SPEAKER_01: I started to prove to myself that,
- 5:26SPEAKER_01: oh,
- 5:27SPEAKER_01: if I'm just myself,
- 5:28SPEAKER_01: I feel better,
- 5:29SPEAKER_01: I make more friends,
- 5:30SPEAKER_01: life is better.
- 5:32SPEAKER_01: And so I just kept going and going and growing and growing.
- 5:36SPEAKER_01: And then when I started the blog,
- 5:38SPEAKER_01: you know,
- 5:39SPEAKER_01: the advice you always get is be yourself,
- 5:40SPEAKER_01: be authentic.
- 5:42And I was looking at the people in my sphere that were
- 5:46successful and I thought,
- 5:47SPEAKER_01: yeah,
- 5:47SPEAKER_01: they do have a lot of personality.
- 5:49SPEAKER_01: You know, it might not be my personality, but it's theirs.
- 5:52And so over the years,
- 5:54like Jessica mentioned,
- 5:55I've built several successful businesses.
- 5:58SPEAKER_01: The more that I've leaned into Liz,
- 6:01the more that I've seen that attracts the right people and it
- 6:05repels the wrong
- 6:06SPEAKER_01: people,
- 6:06SPEAKER_01: right?
- 6:07SPEAKER_01: The wrong people are like,
- 6:08SPEAKER_01: oh no,
- 6:08SPEAKER_01: I'm not taking any advice from a lady who wears a headband or a hat,
- 6:13SPEAKER_01: you know,
- 6:13SPEAKER_01: and doesn't have a professional setup here.
- 6:17SPEAKER_01: So that repels the wrong people.
- 6:19SPEAKER_01: So yeah, it's been a journey, my friends.
- 6:21SPEAKER_01: It's been a journey.
- 6:22SPEAKER_00: Yeah,
- 6:23SPEAKER_00: I love what you're sharing and I can really,
- 6:25SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 6:26SPEAKER_00: resonate and it's so much of the conditionings that we receive as well.
- 6:30SPEAKER_00: I don't know if it's specifically as women,
- 6:32SPEAKER_00: there's this good girl syndrome that we hear everywhere.
- 6:35SPEAKER_00: I know that I've definitely had to deal with that.
- 6:38but I feel like the more like there are things that we are shy
- 6:42about or that we can
- 6:44even carry shame around that we don't want so much to people to
- 6:48know us for right
- 6:50but the more we accept that about ourselves and the more we
- 6:54show it the more we
- 6:55actually become magnetic which I think I work as a copywriter
- 6:59and web designer and
- 7:01SPEAKER_00: I see like every time that I work with a client they
- 7:05SPEAKER_00: And there's also this, but let's not mention it.
- 7:08And that's actually the thing that we have to tap into for them
- 7:12to be positioned as
- 7:13SPEAKER_00: themselves,
- 7:14SPEAKER_00: as differently as something that actually matters listening to.
- 7:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 7:19SPEAKER_01: Amen.
- 7:19SPEAKER_01: Listen, y'all, I do not like the word quirky.
- 7:24SPEAKER_01: People call me quirky all the time.
- 7:26SPEAKER_01: It's not anything that I resonate with,
- 7:29SPEAKER_01: but lately I've been like,
- 7:31SPEAKER_01: you know what,
- 7:31SPEAKER_01: maybe I am quirky and maybe it's those quirks that,
- 7:36SPEAKER_01: you know,
- 7:36SPEAKER_01: land me all of these amazing life experiences,
- 7:40SPEAKER_01: right?
- 7:41SPEAKER_01: That attract, like Jessica is saying,
- 7:44Those correct people for me right the people that also identify
- 7:49as quirky you know
- 7:50you know what heck let's get together you know we can be quirky
- 7:53and fun ourselves
- 7:54and that's something you know i also consider myself a
- 7:57copywriter and i'm launching
- 8:00a product that i've launched this will be the 13th time and for
- 8:05the last couple of
- 8:06SPEAKER_01: years you know it's been successful the launches have been great um
- 8:10SPEAKER_01: But they haven't been what I wanted And I realized,
- 8:13SPEAKER_01: oh,
- 8:14I haven't been my creative quirky self It's just been sort of
- 8:17rinse and repeat the
- 8:18SPEAKER_01: last few times And so how can I lean into that?
- 8:23SPEAKER_01: And y'all, I have been up
- 8:25At the time of this recording,
- 8:27I've been up working for eight hours already.
- 8:29SPEAKER_01: It's not even 1 p.m.
- 8:32SPEAKER_01: I am so energized by my work.
- 8:35SPEAKER_01: I'm leaning into that creativity and that,
- 8:38SPEAKER_01: I don't know,
- 8:38SPEAKER_01: sort of loudness,
- 8:40SPEAKER_01: that unapologetic voice that I have.
- 8:43SPEAKER_01: And I'm having so much fun creating a Christmas in July sale.
- 8:48SPEAKER_01: where I'm,
- 8:49SPEAKER_01: you know,
- 8:49SPEAKER_01: doing a Christmas miracle meter where the more people on the waitlist,
- 8:52SPEAKER_01: the more bonuses you unlock and you'll get them for free.
- 8:55And I put it in my Facebook group yesterday and another
- 8:58copyrighted friend said,
- 8:59SPEAKER_01: oh,
- 8:59SPEAKER_01: Liz,
- 9:00SPEAKER_01: you shouldn't give away all this for free.
- 9:01SPEAKER_01: These would be good bonuses for the package you're selling.
- 9:05SPEAKER_01: And I thought, but that's not me.
- 9:07SPEAKER_01: You know,
- 9:08SPEAKER_01: me is to be radically generous and very silly and,
- 9:13SPEAKER_01: you know,
- 9:13SPEAKER_01: come up with these silly names and
- 9:15Silly prizes for no good reason other than I'm glad you're here
- 9:18and I'm having a
- 9:21lot of fun with it and obviously I don't know what's going to
- 9:23happen but I know
- 9:25it's going to create a lot of buzz because like Jessica said
- 9:30leaning into that real
- 9:32SPEAKER_01: voice is the thing that's going to attract people.
- 9:35SPEAKER_00: Yeah,
- 9:35SPEAKER_00: and I mean,
- 9:36SPEAKER_00: definitely,
- 9:36SPEAKER_00: I'm in your membership and I can see,
- 9:38SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 9:38SPEAKER_00: how this playfulness,
- 9:40this joy around everything you create is really what's
- 9:44attractive and definitely
- 9:46SPEAKER_00: inspiring.
- 9:48And it's actually helping me change a little bit the way that I
- 9:51send emails,
- 9:52SPEAKER_00: even though I'm a copywriter,
- 9:54SPEAKER_00: because I tend to be always,
- 9:55SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 9:56SPEAKER_00: very poetic and very,
- 9:58SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 9:58SPEAKER_00: I'm more on the soulful side,
- 10:00SPEAKER_00: like quiet side.
- 10:02SPEAKER_00: Then I receive your prompts and I'm like,
- 10:04I cannot I can be soulful and fun like it doesn't have to be
- 10:08just yes and yes and
- 10:12both you know both at the same time I I love that so much thank
- 10:17you for sharing
- 10:18that so we talk about visibility we talk about confidence I
- 10:24have to ask you were on
- 10:26SPEAKER_00: survivor which I didn't know
- 10:29like until a few months ago after I joined your membership I
- 10:34found out and so for
- 10:35my audience who may not know that is one of the most watched
- 10:37most intense reality
- 10:39shows in the world what on earth does that experience teach you
- 10:43about visibility
- 10:44about being seen about putting yourself out there completely
- 10:48this is such a great
- 10:50SPEAKER_01: question that no one's ever asked me I'm so glad you asked
- 10:56It has taught me that people will interpret you the way they
- 11:01want,
- 11:02right?
- 11:02SPEAKER_01: Of course, being on a TV show, you're not in charge of your narrative.
- 11:06SPEAKER_01: Over here at lizwolcox.com, I show you what I want to show you, right?
- 11:10SPEAKER_01: I mean, that's just the nature of the beast, right?
- 11:12SPEAKER_01: But when you're on TV, it's a different beast, right?
- 11:15SPEAKER_01: They show people the way they want to show them.
- 11:20SPEAKER_01: And I did not get a very, I'd say, generous edit.
- 11:24SPEAKER_01: I think I was meant to be a very quirky,
- 11:27SPEAKER_01: strange character with,
- 11:31SPEAKER_01: I would say,
- 11:32SPEAKER_01: a lot of controversy around this character.
- 11:36SPEAKER_01: And y'all,
- 11:38SPEAKER_01: the wide variety of,
- 11:42SPEAKER_01: oh,
- 11:43SPEAKER_01: Liz,
- 11:43I hated this or I loved this about you is so wild because
- 11:48they're only showing you
- 11:49SPEAKER_01: one
- 11:50SPEAKER_01: side of me.
- 11:50SPEAKER_01: I think it was a very one-dimensional but crazy character,
- 11:55SPEAKER_01: but the way it was interpreted was just insane.
- 11:59SPEAKER_01: There were some people,
- 12:00SPEAKER_01: oh,
- 12:00SPEAKER_01: I can't stand her saying,
- 12:03SPEAKER_01: can I say that some people even to this day,
- 12:06SPEAKER_01: years later,
- 12:06SPEAKER_01: I hope you burn in hell.
- 12:09SPEAKER_01: I get death threats.
- 12:11SPEAKER_01: And there are other people who watch, yeah, it's insane.
- 12:13SPEAKER_01: There are other people that watch the same show.
- 12:18SPEAKER_01: Liz, you inspired me.
- 12:20I have completely changed my life based on the things that you
- 12:24said and did out
- 12:25there on the island and so you can only be yourself even on the
- 12:29show even it being
- 12:30edited I was only myself like yeah I said that sure it was
- 12:35edited but yeah that did
- 12:36come out of my mouth you know and you just you have to do the
- 12:41work you have to be
- 12:43SPEAKER_01: yourself you have to put yourself out there how you're interpreted
- 12:49SPEAKER_01: is not your job you can try your best to manipulate a situation but every
- 12:56individual is unique and they're going to interpret it
- 13:00differently like Jessica
- 13:01SPEAKER_01: said oh when I get your emails Liz it's so full of joy
- 13:05Joy is never a word that I sit down and think about when I'm
- 13:10writing my emails.
- 13:11SPEAKER_01: What I'm thinking about is brevity.
- 13:13SPEAKER_01: How can I keep this short and sweet and to the point?
- 13:16SPEAKER_01: Playful, she said that.
- 13:17SPEAKER_01: Yes, I am definitely trying to be playful.
- 13:19SPEAKER_01: That's my word of the year, play.
- 13:21SPEAKER_01: So that comes across.
- 13:23SPEAKER_01: But joy is never something that's top of mind for me.
- 13:25SPEAKER_01: That's something that Jessica is interpreting, right?
- 13:29SPEAKER_01: So when it comes to visibility, you know, you can have your own agenda.
- 13:35SPEAKER_01: But there are people,
- 13:36SPEAKER_01: especially if you want to think of this in the negative,
- 13:38there are some people who are going to interpret you the way
- 13:41that they want to,
- 13:42SPEAKER_01: and there's nothing you can do about it.
- 13:44SPEAKER_01: So just keep on keeping on, my friend.
- 13:47So that's really the question here,
- 13:48because I thank you so much for sharing that,
- 13:50by the way.
- 13:51SPEAKER_00: But I hear I haven't experienced that level of visibility.
- 13:56My husband's a little bit more famous being a comic book
- 13:59designer,
- 14:00a comic book artist.
- 14:01SPEAKER_00: But
- 14:03SPEAKER_00: Okay, his strategy is ignore.
- 14:07SPEAKER_00: So he doesn't go and look at what people say about his books or whatever.
- 14:14SPEAKER_00: What is yours?
- 14:15SPEAKER_00: What would you tell a highly sensitive woman?
- 14:18Because I can see the people in my audience are sharing this
- 14:21with me of saying
- 14:22SPEAKER_00: like,
- 14:22SPEAKER_00: oh,
- 14:22SPEAKER_00: I'm almost scared of being successful because this criticism will come.
- 14:27SPEAKER_00: There will be trolls on the internet.
- 14:29There will be people saying the horrible things they've been
- 14:31saying to you.
- 14:33SPEAKER_00: Is it about regulating the nervous system?
- 14:36Or is it just about ignoring and not having a look at all at
- 14:39what people say?
- 14:40SPEAKER_01: Listen,
- 14:41SPEAKER_01: so number one,
- 14:42I hope you get so successful that you get the hate that I have
- 14:46because that means
- 14:48SPEAKER_01: you are we're seen by millions and millions of people.
- 14:51SPEAKER_01: Jessica was not joking.
- 14:52SPEAKER_01: Survivor is like the number one TV show in like all the world.
- 14:57SPEAKER_01: It's airs in 125 countries.
- 14:59SPEAKER_01: Like, don't worry.
- 15:02SPEAKER_01: And this is no offense, like you will likely never be that successful.
- 15:06SPEAKER_00: You know, I got lucky.
- 15:08SPEAKER_00: I got on a TV show, right?
- 15:11SPEAKER_01: And so the level of hate,
- 15:13SPEAKER_01: quote unquote,
- 15:14SPEAKER_01: that I get,
- 15:16you will never be able to match that unless you're trying to be
- 15:20the next Oprah.
- 15:21SPEAKER_01: I also want to say that I have a very highly sensitive body.
- 15:25SPEAKER_01: I mean, doctors have told me that.
- 15:27SPEAKER_01: I have an autoimmune disorder.
- 15:30SPEAKER_01: I'm constantly in fight or flight.
- 15:32You know,
- 15:33if somebody drops something on the other side of the room,
- 15:36it would take me
- 15:3720 minutes for my heart rate to come down you know my body is
- 15:41constantly stressed
- 15:42but I have found what regulates my system and this is not for
- 15:46everybody it's not
- 15:48SPEAKER_01: for Mr.
- 15:49Jessica he ignores stuff I don't ignore it because when I
- 15:53ignore it I absorb it
- 15:55and I need to be like rubber there glue bounce off me stick to
- 16:00you okay y'all
- 16:01remember that from the playground days and so I don't ignore it
- 16:06I acknowledge it
- 16:09and sometimes I will even I don't defend myself but I clarify
- 16:15right so in the case
- 16:16of Survivor people oh you're an idiot you're this that oh well
- 16:20actually what
- 16:20SPEAKER_01: happened was da da da da da
- 16:23SPEAKER_01: It's not defending.
- 16:25SPEAKER_01: Don't defend yourself.
- 16:26SPEAKER_01: That's when you get into a fight.
- 16:28SPEAKER_01: But you can clarify.
- 16:30SPEAKER_01: You can say your piece and move on.
- 16:33SPEAKER_01: Again, if I ignore it, I absorb it because I'm going to see it.
- 16:37SPEAKER_01: Even if I'm not searching for it, people will DM you.
- 16:40SPEAKER_01: People will email you.
- 16:43SPEAKER_01: Even I who have somebody who monitors my inbox, I go in there.
- 16:48you know I see things that I don't want to see and it's cringe
- 16:51and it's like oh
- 16:52gosh I should just pack up and leave they're right but again I
- 16:57if I ignore it I've
- 16:58tried that approach and it always I can't ignore it I literally
- 17:02can't ignore it I'm
- 17:03up at night I'm breaking out in hives I feel sick to my stomach
- 17:07for hours after
- 17:08SPEAKER_01: reading it but if I clarify
- 17:13Hey you know thanks for your feedback but what actually where
- 17:16where my head
- 17:17actually was at when I wrote this email was for example I had a
- 17:23guy so I just did a
- 17:24launch in March it's my birthday sale I do it every year and
- 17:28this year as a
- 17:29copywriter I'm seeing a lot of copy looks the same because a
- 17:32lot of people are
- 17:33using AI so I wanted my people to know hey I'm not using AI so
- 17:37I did a silly call
- 17:38SPEAKER_01: out section at the top of every email and it said
- 17:41SPEAKER_01: This email was brought to you by a real human.
- 17:43No AI was used in the making of this email reading experience
- 17:47or something like that.
- 17:48SPEAKER_01: And I had a man email me back, who let you send this email?
- 17:55SPEAKER_01: That call out box is so dumb.
- 17:58SPEAKER_01: It looks like AI wrote it.
- 18:02SPEAKER_01: Y'all, I send a video because I've gotten really good at confrontation.
- 18:09SPEAKER_01: Not that I'm confrontational.
- 18:11but he emailed me okay so I sent a video and I find this just
- 18:16disarms people right
- 18:18because most people would never do that most people do the
- 18:21ignore approach shout
- 18:22SPEAKER_01: out Mr.
- 18:23Jessica right and so I sent him I said you know hey Alan or
- 18:27whatever hey Alex hey
- 18:29Bart whatever I love that you emailed me this what's so funny
- 18:35is I'm actually the
- 18:36SPEAKER_01: boss so nobody is allowed to tell me what to do
- 18:41SPEAKER_01: I said, isn't that because I teach business, right?
- 18:43SPEAKER_01: I said, and isn't that the great thing about owning your own business?
- 18:47SPEAKER_01: You can say and do whatever you want.
- 18:51SPEAKER_01: That's why I started running my own business.
- 18:54SPEAKER_01: Alan, I would love to know why you run your own business.
- 18:58SPEAKER_01: You know, hit reply.
- 19:01SPEAKER_01: And he did.
- 19:02SPEAKER_01: He said, oh my gosh, Liz, I loved your video.
- 19:05SPEAKER_01: I love that you stood firm.
- 19:07SPEAKER_01: This is exactly the kind of person I'm looking to learn from.
- 19:11SPEAKER_00: And he bought the thing What?
- 19:15He bought it Y'all I can turn people I can turn people around I
- 19:19also had somebody
- 19:20email me They wanted a refund for something They said oh this
- 19:24is way too elementary
- 19:26SPEAKER_01: So again I sent him a video
- 19:29SPEAKER_01: Bart, you're so right.
- 19:31SPEAKER_01: I took a look at your website.
- 19:32SPEAKER_01: You're far beyond this.
- 19:33SPEAKER_01: This is elementary.
- 19:34SPEAKER_01: You need a 2.0 strategy.
- 19:36SPEAKER_01: I actually do one-on-one audits.
- 19:39SPEAKER_01: It's $500.
- 19:41I'll give you the $30 refund or I can give you a $30 coupon for
- 19:45this $500 thing.
- 19:49SPEAKER_01: You're so right.
- 19:50SPEAKER_01: You don't need this.
- 19:51SPEAKER_01: I'm going to put this on the sales page only for this kind of person.
- 19:57SPEAKER_01: Thanks for pointing that out.
- 19:58yeah again he bought of course okay of course you're being
- 20:02helpful and you're
- 20:05acknowledging you're right you know and and this is what I can
- 20:08do for you it's
- 20:09wonderful business amen you know what I just look at everything
- 20:13as an opportunity
- 20:14um you know maybe it's that joy that playfulness and of course
- 20:18now y'all if they're
- 20:20SPEAKER_01: threatening my life calling me stupid you know calling me names
- 20:26then yeah I might write out an email and never hit send right
- 20:30we've all heard that
- 20:31advice just so again I'm not ignoring it and I'm not absorbing
- 20:35it but I might not
- 20:36you know those kinds of people I'm not going to engage with
- 20:40right because they they
- 20:41are just looking for a fight some people are just very clearly
- 20:46misunderstanding me
- 20:48and you know it's an easy fix hey actually you're right that is
- 20:51elementary this is
- 20:51SPEAKER_01: what you need instead let me apply that coupon for you
- 20:57SPEAKER_01: So those are different experiences, but never absorb it.
- 21:02SPEAKER_01: Talk to your friends about it.
- 21:04SPEAKER_01: Write a fake email and hit delete so you'll feel better.
- 21:08SPEAKER_01: Don't ever reply immediately.
- 21:11SPEAKER_01: Come back to it later if you really want to say something.
- 21:15SPEAKER_01: Sit on it for a couple days or whatever.
- 21:18SPEAKER_01: But you don't have to ignore it.
- 21:21SPEAKER_00: Thank you.
- 21:22SPEAKER_00: I love that.
- 21:23SPEAKER_00: Everything you say visually to me,
- 21:25SPEAKER_00: I see like shields,
- 21:27SPEAKER_00: just shields,
- 21:28SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 21:28SPEAKER_00: like I let in what's important,
- 21:31SPEAKER_00: but also,
- 21:32this is my boundary and I'm not going to accept this poison's
- 21:36gift that you try to
- 21:37SPEAKER_00: give me.
- 21:38SPEAKER_00: It is no reason to do that without an explanation.
- 21:41SPEAKER_00: Thank you so much.
- 21:42SPEAKER_00: This has been so good.
- 21:44SPEAKER_00: Before we go, where can people find you?
- 21:46SPEAKER_00: What's the best next step for someone who's listening and thinking?
- 21:50SPEAKER_00: Okay,
- 21:50I need more of this and I need maybe to sort out my emails
- 21:54because I know it's a
- 21:54SPEAKER_00: big deal also for my community.
- 21:57SPEAKER_00: You know, they sometimes feel that they don't want to bother their list.
- 22:01SPEAKER_00: They don't want to email too much.
- 22:03SPEAKER_00: They don't want to sell.
- 22:04SPEAKER_00: Oh my God, selling the emails.
- 22:05SPEAKER_00: And you teach wonderfully about all this.
- 22:07SPEAKER_00: So how does someone get started with you?
- 22:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I'm so glad you asked.
