- 0:01last night's show i played hurt i don't
- 0:04know if you could tell but i'm gonna
- 0:06tell you why next
- 0:19I love the chase and the hunt and
- 0:21I set the pace when I'm running.
- 0:22I always take what I want and I
- 0:24always give it one hundred.
- 0:25Don't need a bank, no I'm funded.
- 0:27Play the game like it's nothing.
- 0:28I'm always thankful for something.
- 0:29Don't take for granted, stay humble.
- 0:31Now wake up!
- 0:33It's time to look at the enemy.
- 0:35Look in the mirror if he is no
- 0:37friend to me.
- 0:38It's not working out,
- 0:39maybe it's the chemistry.
- 0:40It's time to break.
- 0:48it's lunch time what is going on everybody
- 0:52welcome to lunch with the Clydesdale it is
- 0:54me solo today uh Corey had to take
- 0:58care of uh some family things today um
- 1:01but hopefully he'll be back tomorrow and
- 1:04uh we'll get back to the fun and
- 1:05frivolity of it all um yeah last night
- 1:09man I played hurt uh
- 1:13And I was having like some stomach issues
- 1:17before the show last night.
- 1:19And the only thing that like felt good
- 1:20was like ice cold fruit.
- 1:25And thankfully,
- 1:25like my wife had cut up some cantaloupe,
- 1:29cut up some strawberries and put some
- 1:31blackberries and little bowls in the
- 1:33fridge so you can just grab them.
- 1:35And I ate a blackberry right before the
- 1:37show went live.
- 1:39And the seed got stuck in my tooth.
- 1:42And it was there for the entire show.
- 1:45The entire show.
- 1:46It was the most annoying thing.
- 1:52Ever.
- 1:53Doing the show, it's stuck there.
- 1:55Every time you talk, you can feel it.
- 1:59Trying to get past it.
- 2:01I love the flavor of a good blackberry.
- 2:04It reminds me of when I was a
- 2:05kid.
- 2:07My aunt had some blackberry bushes.
- 2:10We had some in the back of our
- 2:11yard.
- 2:12You pick them fresh off the bush, tree,
- 2:15whatever.
- 2:18I just love them so much.
- 2:19But those seeds, dang.
- 2:21I don't remember as a kid that being
- 2:24an issue.
- 2:25I wonder if like as you age,
- 2:27the gap just gets to be or the
- 2:29crevice in your tooth just gets to a
- 2:31point where it just neatly,
- 2:34that seed just neatly fits in there and
- 2:37then you cannot dislodge it.
- 2:39You just can't.
- 2:42so i did that all last night and
- 2:44but i did it for you all it's
- 2:47a great show last night i got to
- 2:49fight with carolyn jamie was starting to
- 2:52fight and then we ended the show so
- 3:00um uh blackberry souvenirs yeah
- 3:08Yeah.
- 3:09A Hexie Lover also says,
- 3:10how can there only be a handful of
- 3:11people waiting for the best daily show?
- 3:14My gosh, you are so awesome, Hexie Lover.
- 3:17You say such kind things in the chat.
- 3:20You're the best.
- 3:24We got Ortega here.
- 3:26We got Jenny here.
- 3:27We got Jay Birch.
- 3:29We got Vicky and Joseph and Jason Bourne.
- 3:33Jason Bourne.
- 3:39Amanda went to Louisiana.
- 3:41Why do you go to a Louisiana?
- 3:44Competition?
- 3:46Training?
- 3:47What was happening in Louisiana?
- 3:52Jay Birch says Jamie was starting a fight.
- 3:55Yeah, starting a fight.
- 3:57She wasn't as frisky last night as
- 3:59Carolyn.
- 3:59Yeah.
- 4:03Yeah.
- 4:05Carolyn and I, I think,
- 4:07I don't know if we're ever going to
- 4:09agree on... I think that... Oh, cool.
- 4:17Amanda's daughter is in the Coast Guard.
- 4:18She just got promoted.
- 4:20Well,
- 4:20that's a really good reason to go to
- 4:22Louisiana.
- 4:26It's always awesome seeing your kid do
- 4:29well.
- 4:32Yeah, my kid just, she was up at...
- 4:38Lake Chatelaine, Chatelaine in Idaho,
- 4:42filming a new spot for her company.
- 4:46The pictures were gorgeous.
- 4:49I know Greg Glassman has a home up
- 4:51there.
- 4:52It just was amazing.
- 4:56She got back last night.
- 4:57She was so tired.
- 4:59She just kind of conked out.
- 5:06Yeah.
- 5:09Lots of people going to Mayhem this
- 5:10weekend.
- 5:12I don't even remember what I was talking
- 5:14about now.
- 5:18Oh, well.
- 5:21Mayhem is this weekend.
- 5:22We got lots of people in the chat
- 5:23going.
- 5:24I know the Reeds are going.
- 5:25I know Vicky's going.
- 5:27I know Ortega's going to be there.
- 5:31My question to you is,
- 5:35when do you go?
- 5:37The first...
- 5:39the first event is not,
- 5:42I'm guessing because it's a run,
- 5:44it's not even going to be like viewable
- 5:47by the spectators.
- 5:49And, um, so do you go,
- 5:56do you try to be there Friday or
- 5:58do you,
- 5:58is your main concern to be there by
- 6:00Saturday?
- 6:03So, and Vicki got me back on track.
- 6:06Just wonder what the schedule is.
- 6:08Um,
- 6:11Yeah,
- 6:11I know the schedule is not for spectators,
- 6:13Vicki, for Friday,
- 6:15but do you try to get there?
- 6:17Do you try to meet up with people?
- 6:21What is the plan?
- 6:22How do you plan out your trip to
- 6:25Mayhem when it's a two-day event?
- 6:32So, just curious.
- 6:33Yes.
- 6:35We'll talk about that in a minute.
- 6:37I think what Carolyn and I were fighting
- 6:39about and probably will always fight about
- 6:41is that I think that
- 6:45Basically,
- 6:45CrossFit grew too big for its britches.
- 6:48We started renting all these big arenas
- 6:51for regionals, for semifinals,
- 6:53whatever they were at the time.
- 6:56And I really think that we need to
- 6:57go take a step back to take a
- 7:00couple steps forward.
- 7:02And I think that it would be cheaper
- 7:07to get facilities that were outdoors.
- 7:14until, excuse me,
- 7:21one thing is we need to go back
- 7:22to a regional setup with one shot and
- 7:25then get a place that meets the needs
- 7:29of that region,
- 7:31whether it be an outdoor high school
- 7:33stadium, a Division III college stadium,
- 7:39a local abandoned supermarket,
- 7:41I don't know.
- 7:43And then you, as you grow,
- 7:48then you start looking at different
- 7:50venues, different things.
- 7:54Carolyn is always going to look at it
- 7:55from the athlete point of view where she
- 8:00will want it to be fair for everyone
- 8:06across the regions to get to the games.
- 8:11And
- 8:14And I get that,
- 8:15but I just don't think we're big enough
- 8:17yet to take all that on.
- 8:21Like Australia has proven they can fill an
- 8:25arena for a regional semifinal.
- 8:29Torian Pro is packed each and every year.
- 8:33They have proven that they can fill that
- 8:35arena.
- 8:36So for them,
- 8:36they don't need to take that step back.
- 8:38They can keep holding the Torian at that
- 8:41arena because they fill it every time.
- 8:45If it's done well in Europe,
- 8:47they've proven that they can fill the
- 8:49arena.
- 8:52In the US,
- 8:53I think we need a reset.
- 8:55We need to get back to where the
- 8:57drama is back.
- 8:58The impending doom is back.
- 9:00Am I going to make the games?
- 9:02And then see if that starts drawing people
- 9:04back to those regional type events.
- 9:09But we can't afford big arenas for every
- 9:12one of them.
- 9:15And so I think you find something
- 9:19appropriate for whatever region you are
- 9:21in, whatever you think you can fill,
- 9:25and Ortega says NCC can fill a venue.
- 9:33But they don't need to.
- 9:35The beauty of NCC is that it's outdoors,
- 9:38that it's grassroots.
- 9:40And as long as it's a good test
- 9:42to get to the games, which,
- 9:44by the way,
- 9:45Carolyn made it to the games from last
- 9:50year, it was outdoors.
- 9:52Some of those elements you have to take
- 9:54on.
- 9:56And I am betting that renting that park
- 9:59is way cheaper than renting the Del Mar
- 10:02fairgrounds.
- 10:08So it is done.
- 10:12So NorCal got people to the games.
- 10:15Granite Games did it for two years at
- 10:17the Vikings facility.
- 10:19They were both outdoors.
- 10:20Technically, Del Mar is outdoors.
- 10:22It just has a roof over it.
- 10:31Jonathan, I'm saying that
- 10:35I don't know about the number of semis.
- 10:37What I'm saying is there needs to be
- 10:41one shot for the athlete to go from
- 10:44the semifinal level to the games.
- 10:47There's no tension at Mayhem this weekend
- 10:50because if you don't make it,
- 10:52you have three more shots.
- 10:55You can sign up for two more semifinals.
- 10:58You can do the in-affiliate semifinal.
- 11:01You have so many shots.
- 11:03There's no more tension left.
- 11:08Vicky says, I agree.
- 11:09There's not enough tension in the current
- 11:11structure.
- 11:15Wayne says, I agree with you, Scott,
- 11:17but it will always be a hard sell
- 11:18to the elite athletes as they now have
- 11:21an exception of what semis games level
- 11:23venue should be.
- 11:24Expectation, I think,
- 11:26of what semis games level.
- 11:28But the problem is we can't...
- 11:30We're not going to succeed.
- 11:31We're not going to survive in the current
- 11:34structure.
- 11:36So...
- 11:41Jenny says there's still tension.
- 11:43It's going to be exciting,
- 11:44but it's not as exciting and it's not
- 11:47as much tension.
- 11:49The beauty of playoff sports is that if
- 11:53you don't win, you go home.
- 11:56It is a one and done in most
- 11:59sports,
- 11:59unless it's baseball or basketball with a
- 12:02series.
- 12:03If you're in tennis and you're playing
- 12:04Wimbledon and you lose along the way,
- 12:07you go home.
- 12:10the stress and the tension of that is
- 12:12much higher than, well,
- 12:14if I don't win today,
- 12:16I can come back in round four and
- 12:18do another one.
- 12:23I'm not saying mayhem isn't going to be
- 12:24great.
- 12:25It's got a great field with great athletes
- 12:28and to see who makes it on is,
- 12:31is going to be fun.
- 12:33But if you're trying to get the most
- 12:35people to watch and,
- 12:37And the most people at an event,
- 12:39you need to have that piece that you
- 12:43need to succeed here or you go home.
- 12:59I'm reluctant, Jay Birch,
- 13:00to call it regionals because I don't think
- 13:02the old regional structure works anymore.
- 13:04It's not affordable.
- 13:06We have to find a modification between
- 13:09that and what we have today.
- 13:14Yeah, Hexy lover.
- 13:16Olympics, one and done.
- 13:18You go to the Olympic trials and you
- 13:20mess up,
- 13:21there's no Olympic trials part two.
- 13:25And you won't get another shot for four
- 13:27years.
- 13:34Ma'am is great and athletes will try hard,
- 13:36but it does nothing for spectator and
- 13:38growth to make the venues worth it.
- 13:49And I just,
- 13:49I think you have to find something that's
- 13:51affordable and sustainable until you can
- 13:54show the growth again.
- 13:57If this was two thousand eighteen, yeah,
- 13:59the convention centers worked.
- 14:03And even then,
- 14:04some of the regionals were not making
- 14:06money.
- 14:10But in the central regional,
- 14:12when it was one and done,
- 14:15that place was packed.
- 14:18Nashville was packed to the roof.
- 14:22Every single every single day but Friday.
- 14:25Cause people were still working,
- 14:26but the weekends were packed and the drama
- 14:30on Sundays at regionals was through the
- 14:33roof.
- 14:37And for us nerds,
- 14:38like on Sunday at mayhem and seeing who's
- 14:41still in the hunt to get their ticket,
- 14:44we're going to be dialed in,
- 14:46but we lose the fringe.
- 14:49We lose the fringe.
- 14:56John George,
- 14:56love your idea of scaling down venues like
- 14:58high schools.
- 14:59Could even use small colleges.
- 15:01Exactly.
- 15:02Like Division III schools,
- 15:03Division II schools, high schools.
- 15:08Colleges might even be better because
- 15:10sometimes the football field is away from
- 15:14like the classrooms.
- 15:16And so it could be its own event
- 15:17with like a really nice parking lot where
- 15:21you could set up a really nice vendor
- 15:22village.
- 15:24And then you have the track and you
- 15:25have the field.
- 15:27You just have to find those ones that
- 15:29have turf installed so you're not damaging
- 15:31the field.
- 15:34But it'd be like having North Park at
- 15:39a regional level, right?
- 15:42When they did the football stadium,
- 15:46high school football stadium in Fort
- 15:48Worth,
- 15:50there was like sixteen thousand people
- 15:52there.
- 15:52That's more than any games.
- 15:54That's more than any regional.
- 15:57It was packed.
- 16:03A two thousand fourteen regional at
- 16:05University of Cincinnati was great.
- 16:06It really was.
- 16:09That was my first volunteer experience.
- 16:12And it was in the basketball arena.
- 16:15And then they had a warm up area
- 16:17in the indoor track facility.
- 16:30Didn't use the turf fields for events,
- 16:32but definitely could have.
- 16:33They could have.
- 16:34At University of Cincinnati,
- 16:35you walk out of the basketball arena,
- 16:39and there is the practice football field
- 16:41right there and a baseball stadium.
- 16:49Also a great way to connect with a
- 16:51younger audience,
- 16:52CrossFit needs that badly.
- 16:57It was free to get in at Fort
- 16:58Worth.
- 16:58Well, that was my next topic, Jay Birch.
- 17:02So a lot of tickets have been released
- 17:06over the last few days.
- 17:08And I just wanted to take a look
- 17:09at a few of these.
- 17:12So Del Mar released their tickets.
- 17:17For a three-day pass to Del Mar,
- 17:19it's a hundred and twenty-five dollars.
- 17:22So say you're the Reeds and you're a
- 17:23family of four,
- 17:25that's five hundred dollars for the
- 17:26weekend to get into Del Mar.
- 17:31And when you're there.
- 17:34Again, this is up,
- 17:36this is up in like two weeks,
- 17:38three weeks.
- 17:42If someone doesn't make it to the games,
- 17:43they can try again at NorCal Classic or
- 17:46they can do an affiliate.
- 17:48Do I want to pay five hundred dollars
- 17:49for my family to go where it's not
- 17:53a definitive qualifier for the games like
- 17:57that?
- 17:57It's this or nothing.
- 17:59If it was one of those,
- 18:00I'd pay that.
- 18:02Pay that in a heartbeat.
- 18:04But one hundred twenty five for the
- 18:05weekend.
- 18:06Single days are twenty five to forty five
- 18:09dollars.
- 18:10And then the kids prices.
- 18:14So then we go to.
- 18:22Which one is this one?
- 18:25CrossFit Games Masters.
- 18:28Single day tickets are one hundred twenty
- 18:30five dollars.
- 18:31Single day.
- 18:35Full event, three day pass,
- 18:36three hundred dollars.
- 18:38This is for the age groups.
- 18:42And I know that event organizers are
- 18:44looking at this like.
- 18:48Looking at this like what it's the way
- 18:51we make money.
- 18:52But the problem is your volume of
- 18:55attendance is low because you're
- 18:57outpricing the demand for your event.
- 19:03You need to lower that price and try
- 19:05to get more volume.
- 19:09Then you get more volume.
- 19:11Then if you can say we had X
- 19:15thousand people there last year,
- 19:17then more vendors want to be there.
- 19:19Then you have a bigger vendor village.
- 19:22It's just a ball that can gain some
- 19:25momentum.
- 19:27But when you're pricing things for the
- 19:30Masters age group games at three hundred
- 19:34dollars for the weekend and one hundred
- 19:36twenty five for the day, too much,
- 19:39too much.
- 19:43There are only two old regionals that
- 19:45don't currently have an event,
- 19:47Northeast and Northwest.
- 19:49The event structure isn't that far off and
- 19:51privately funded.
- 19:52I agree, Wayne.
- 19:53I think that that needs to be the
- 19:54way we go.
- 19:56But I've talked to some of these event
- 19:57organizers.
- 19:58They're not making money right now.
- 20:00So how long do they stay until they
- 20:05can't sustain it anymore?
- 20:08And maybe we just reduce the expectations
- 20:11of what that event can be.
- 20:17And then finally,
- 20:18we look at the last one,
- 20:20the CrossFit Games,
- 20:21which we looked at last night.
- 20:25And... This happened to me last night,
- 20:33too.
- 20:41We're not selling seats to the Games.
- 20:43It's the
- 20:46There are seats available everywhere.
- 20:48And if you wanna finish line seat,
- 20:50you're paying eight hundred dollars.
- 20:54One person, one ticket,
- 20:57eight hundred dollars.
- 20:59You go over here to the side,
- 21:00still eight hundred.
- 21:02Until you get to, whoa,
- 21:04one oh one is six hundred and forty
- 21:07dollars.
- 21:09And then if you come all the way
- 21:10around to clear across the arena,
- 21:13it's three sixty for one person for the
- 21:16weekend.
- 21:19If you go up to the upper deck,
- 21:21it's three sixty on the sides and at
- 21:24the finish line,
- 21:24it's four eighty on the corner straight
- 21:27on.
- 21:29It's four eighty.
- 21:30So there you go.
- 21:33It is ridiculous the amount of money.
- 21:37after the low ticket sales the last two
- 21:40or three years why are we still out
- 21:42pricing the demand for the product the key
- 21:46is to get more people in the door
- 21:49so that you can show what's available and
- 21:54what what it can be and get more
- 21:57people in
- 21:58to the arena and then you can advertise
- 22:01to more sponsors more vendors more things
- 22:04like that but they are over pricing this
- 22:07so nobody's going to show up no vendors
- 22:09want to be there because there's not
- 22:11enough attendance for them to make their
- 22:14investment to go to california for this uh
- 22:21hiller says i heard taylor swift is
- 22:22showing up so these prices make sense yeah
- 22:26That's about the only way those prices
- 22:29make sense.
- 22:35On delay, like always,
- 22:36that tension you described is kind of what
- 22:38WFP was doing with ProCard,
- 22:40but they just changed things this year as
- 22:44well, so last year didn't really matter.
- 22:47I don't think that's true, Howie,
- 22:49but I get what you're saying.
- 22:52But even the WFP tension,
- 22:54they didn't know how to market the
- 22:55tension.
- 22:57There was no bigger tension than Sunday at
- 23:00a regional,
- 23:01and there's five spots on the line,
- 23:04and seven guys have a shot for it,
- 23:07or seven ladies,
- 23:09and it comes down to these three events.
- 23:11Who's getting their ticket to the games,
- 23:14and who has to wait another year?
- 23:18We talked about it last night.
- 23:20The storyline that Brent Fikowski missed
- 23:23out on the games by a spot three
- 23:26years in a row,
- 23:28created tension, created a storyline,
- 23:30created drama.
- 23:33But right now you have eight chances to
- 23:35make the games.
- 23:37So if you don't make it this weekend,
- 23:39you sign up for three more.
- 23:42You know,
- 23:43a lot of people are calling it the
- 23:44Luke Parker tour.
- 23:46You just go to as many semifinals as
- 23:47you can until you can get in.
- 23:51And what's dramatic about that?
- 23:53Where's the tension?
- 23:57We've lost all of that over the last
- 23:58five years.
- 24:01All of it.
- 24:03We've given away the best marketing tool
- 24:07we had at the semifinal regional level by
- 24:11allowing athletes to pick and choose when
- 24:15and how much they compete at the semifinal
- 24:18level.
- 24:21We've thrown it away.
- 24:24The reason there was more tension in
- 24:25NorCal Classic last year is because it was
- 24:28the last shot.
- 24:30If you didn't make it there,
- 24:32you weren't making it.
- 24:35And that's what made the end of NorCal
- 24:37Classic the most drama-filled,
- 24:42tension-filled semifinal we had last year.
- 24:52On the women's side,
- 24:53it was down to Hattie Cano and Carolyn
- 24:58Prevost on who got in.
- 25:00One event, take it all,
- 25:02go to the games.
- 25:03If you don't make it, you're going home.
- 25:12And on the men's side,
- 25:13we saw what happened with Nate Ackerman.
- 25:15He was right there.
- 25:18Now,
- 25:19other things contributed to that tension,
- 25:23but that tension only happens with the
- 25:26other things because it's a get in or
- 25:29go home moment.
- 25:38I thought Taylor did that.
- 25:40But Taylor's issue would not have mattered
- 25:45if Nate had another chance.
- 25:48The reason it became a big deal is
- 25:51because that was Nate's last shot.
- 25:59And as I've said a hundred times,
- 26:03you have to show up in the playoffs
- 26:06in every sport, whether you're sick,
- 26:08whether you're injured, or you go home.
- 26:14So all of this talk of, well,
- 26:17if I'm not feeling good on the weekend
- 26:19of regionals, that's my whole season,
- 26:21blah, blah, blah.
- 26:22That's sports.
- 26:26That's sports.
- 26:35It's what sports,
- 26:37it's why sports are great.
- 26:41Sports are great because the ending isn't
- 26:45written.
- 26:47And when the ending means elation in your
- 26:53ticket to the CrossFit Games or despair
- 26:57because you didn't make it,
- 27:00that's the drama that we need.
- 27:03That's the drama that makes sports great.
- 27:06And we as CrossFit tossed it in the
- 27:08garbage five years ago.
- 27:17and said we don't need it because the
- 27:19athletes want to have some choice.
- 27:21Let's give them this.
- 27:23Let's give them that.
- 27:24And I love the athletes.
- 27:27But...
- 27:37Colin Murakawa played the weekend of golf
- 27:40at the Masters with a bad back.
- 27:42Yeah.
- 27:43Or you choose to withdraw and you don't
- 27:45have a shot.
- 27:48Because the masters isn't going to move
- 27:50the date because of how your back feels.
- 28:01I want the drama back.
- 28:05I want it back.
- 28:10And it's so easy to do.
- 28:13You get one regional or semifinal,
- 28:16whatever you want to call it,
- 28:18to have your shot at the games.
- 28:21If you want to do the last chance
- 28:24qualifier for one or two spots most after
- 28:29it's all said and done, fine.
- 28:36But I'm not even a big fan of
- 28:37that.
- 28:39I want the one shot back again.
- 28:47But speaking of drama,
- 28:48do you know who doesn't give you drama?
- 28:51Who actually gives you a restful night's
- 28:53sleep?
- 28:53That's Thirdsy.
- 28:55And salted caramel chocolate is back for a
- 28:58very, very limited time.
- 29:00Use code Jazzy at checkout.
- 29:02Get fifteen percent off your order or go
- 29:05to Thirdsy.com backslash Jazzy.
- 29:08Fifteen percent off your order.
- 29:15Yes, let's call it the no mulligan season.
- 29:17It's perfect, Wayne.
- 29:19You get no mulligans.
- 29:22You have to show up and you have
- 29:23to perform on the date that your playoff
- 29:26game is.
- 29:28Because let's call it what it is.
- 29:30The CrossFit game season is a playoff.
- 29:35You eliminate players as you get to the
- 29:37games.
- 29:43Joseph Ramirez, speaking of drama,
- 29:44congrats on three thousand subscribers.
- 29:46Thank you so much.
- 29:48Means a lot.
- 29:49You guys are the best.
- 29:51Couldn't have done it without you guys at
- 29:53all.
- 29:59David Johnson,
- 30:00we got plenty of drama with the online
- 30:01qualifier being in the middle of the
- 30:03in-person semifinals.
- 30:05And I know you're speaking of the Masters
- 30:06this year.
- 30:12I don't want to get into Masters talk
- 30:14because I'm disgruntled at how the Masters
- 30:19athletes have treated the opportunities
- 30:23they were given this year.
- 30:28And maybe we'll talk about that tomorrow
- 30:30when Corey's on the show.
- 30:32But I'm very disgruntled at you were given
- 30:35the thing you wanted and then nobody took
- 30:38advantage of it.
- 30:43I shouldn't say nobody.
- 30:44There are people that are taking advantage
- 30:48of it.
- 30:50But there it is.
- 30:56Shane,
- 30:57I'm talking about the in-person semifinals
- 30:59that were asked for.
- 31:00They...
- 31:03They were given those who didn't exist
- 31:06before this year and so few people signed
- 31:10up for those to the point where it's
- 31:14almost a joke at what the placings are
- 31:17for people who are at these events.
- 31:29It's hard to take advantage when timing is
- 31:30off and there's only one spot in your
- 31:32age group.
- 31:33I know there are details that make it
- 31:35tough for some age groups.
- 31:38Um, other age groups,
- 31:40there are more than one spot and they
- 31:43didn't take advantage either.
- 31:45Um, so it is what it is.
- 31:51I'm sad because I want this for the
- 31:53masters community.
- 31:56And it sucks that it wasn't more
- 32:00well-received.
- 32:08If you were number thirty and one and
- 32:10two sign up and you've never beat them,
- 32:12then what?
- 32:13You go for the experience,
- 32:15but you're not making it probably.
- 32:18But if you're thirty,
- 32:19you're probably not making it online
- 32:21either.
- 32:23Maybe.
- 32:25but it's an iffy proposition there.
- 32:27I don't know.
- 32:33We'll talk,
- 32:33we'll talk about it later in the week
- 32:35for sure.
- 32:36This is like the last week where we
- 32:38don't have a ton to talk about.
- 32:40We have mayhem this weekend,
- 32:42but once mayhem kicks off, it's bang,
- 32:44bang, bang, bang,
- 32:46different events that we'll get to talk
- 32:48about in more detail.
- 32:50Um,
- 32:52So this week,
- 32:53if there's a topic you want to talk
- 32:55about, shoot me a DM,
- 32:57shoot me a comment on this YouTube
- 32:59channel, and we'll rack it up,
- 33:03knock it down.
- 33:17I'll make sure to be on tomorrow.
- 33:18I got lots of thoughts regarding the
- 33:20Masters.
- 33:21I know you do, buddy.
- 33:22I know you do.
- 33:28Larry Young,
- 33:28Masters still sending invites,
- 33:31so not a ton jumping on it.
- 33:35There aren't that many Masters
- 33:37competitions in the country,
- 33:39like in the U.S.,
- 33:41for Masters athletes to go to and test
- 33:44yourself against the best.
- 33:47And you were given two new opportunities
- 33:49this year.
- 33:51It's not ideal.
- 33:53Timing isn't great, but they're there.
- 34:08Mark Phillips,
- 34:09who was our researcher last night,
- 34:11wrote a small script to pull placements
- 34:13for legends for each group,
- 34:15can post whatever list anybody wants.
- 34:24Before I jump off today,
- 34:27don't forget the Hattie episode three
- 34:30documentary is going to go live at one
- 34:33p.m.
- 34:34That is eleven minutes from now.
- 34:39That is.
- 34:43That is happening one o'clock,
- 34:45eleven minutes from now, episode three.
- 34:48It is day two at the CrossFit Games.
- 34:52I'm finishing up episode four,
- 34:53which is the finale.
- 34:55And as soon as I get that up,
- 34:58it will be available for members.
- 35:00And then probably forty eight hours after
- 35:02that, it will be available to everyone.
- 35:08What I'm hoping for this year is to...
- 35:13Oh.
- 35:15Joe Valens,
- 35:16one of the contributors to the
- 35:18documentary.
- 35:20Go check out his awesome photography.
- 35:26What I'm hoping to do this year is
- 35:28I'm hoping Jamie and Carolyn both make the
- 35:31age group games.
- 35:33And I want to do a full documentary
- 35:35of their weekend.
- 35:38Well, it's not even a weekend.
- 35:39It's Monday through Wednesday.
- 35:46So that's my hope.
- 35:48If Jamie's healthy enough to get through
- 35:50the next couple of weeks,
- 35:51we'll see how that goes.
- 35:53Hopefully we'll be able to get that done
- 35:56and get you a behind the scenes look
- 35:58at two people who handle competition very,
- 36:02very differently,
- 36:03but they talk a lot cause they're not
- 36:05in the same age group.
- 36:06So I'm hoping to get those interactions
- 36:08between the two of them and, uh,
- 36:12and kind of capture.
- 36:14their differences.
- 36:16And then I think I'm going to stay
- 36:18for the whole week.
- 36:19I'll see if I can get embedded with
- 36:22another athlete this year,
- 36:24but I got to know who's going.
- 36:26So we'll see.
- 36:42Uh, Shannon says, well,
- 36:43I'm not spending all the money on an
- 36:44opportunity for one spot and then doing
- 36:46online.
- 36:47If I don't make it one to two
- 36:49weeks later, too much stress on the body.
- 36:51I understand all that.
- 36:52I really do.
- 36:54It's,
- 36:54it's just disappointing because I want
- 36:57these types of things for the master's
- 36:58community.
- 36:59I'm not,
- 37:00I'm not being critical of the master's
- 37:02community at all.
- 37:03I understand all of that stuff.
- 37:06I want it to be,
- 37:08I want it to be better.
- 37:12Hexie Lover, off topic,
- 37:13what's the latest on the Bears moving?
- 37:15Blaming Chicago Mayor, thoughts?
- 37:20I have so many thoughts.
- 37:23It's going to be resolved by the end
- 37:24of next month.
- 37:25We'll know whether they're staying in
- 37:27Illinois or moving to Indiana.
- 37:30Again, if you're not from that area,
- 37:33where they're moving in Indiana is
- 37:36actually closer to the existing stadium
- 37:40than the Illinois site that they're
- 37:42proposing.
- 37:45And it's still considered the Chicagoland
- 37:47area.
- 37:49It just has a different state who's
- 37:51willing to give them pretty much anything
- 37:54they want.
- 37:57I think here's the deal.
- 38:03Where the Bears play currently has a lot
- 38:07of politicalness around it.
- 38:09It's in the Parks District.
- 38:12It's run by a committee there that have
- 38:14not been very favorable to the Bears in
- 38:16their history.
- 38:19The governor wants Soldier Field
- 38:21renovations from two thousand...
- 38:25three, four-ish to get paid off.
- 38:28The Bears have paid off their share of
- 38:30the loan,
- 38:31and the Illinois government has pushed the
- 38:36payback down the road,
- 38:38and now they still owe money,
- 38:40and they want to blame the Bears for
- 38:41that.
- 38:46When the Bears initially wanted to go to
- 38:48Upper Arlington, which is in Illinois...
- 38:51They offered to pay off that loan for
- 38:53the state and the city,
- 38:55and the government officials tried to play
- 38:59hardball,
- 39:00and now the Bears are not going to
- 39:01go back and do that.
- 39:03I don't know what's going to happen.
- 39:04I don't really care.
- 39:06For me, if they moved to Indiana,
- 39:07it's actually a closer drive for me to
- 39:08go than if they went to Upper Arlington.
- 39:12Not Upper Arlington.
- 39:15Arlington Heights.
- 39:16Sorry.
- 39:19So that's that.
- 39:21Right now, football, I'm just drafted out.
- 39:24The draft is next week.
- 39:26Everybody's talking about it.
- 39:28NAI, you're crazy.
- 39:30No way do the Bears want Geno Smith.
- 39:38Um, Wayne short mark.
- 39:39I would be interesting to see where the
- 39:41legends competitors are coming from
- 39:42geographic location.
- 39:44Are they mostly local or traveling?
- 39:47Uh, Wayne, mostly us,
- 39:48but almost every single group has one to
- 39:50four from overseas.
- 40:12So anyway, there it is.
- 40:14I tried to read Larry's thing.
- 40:15I don't have the context.
- 40:17I must have missed the comment earlier or
- 40:20something.
- 40:26Shana says,
- 40:27I think most are staying as close as
- 40:29possible to where they live.
- 40:31So, like, there's so many factors, right?
- 40:34Like,
- 40:34Jamie is closer to Magic City than she
- 40:38is to Del Mar, right?
- 40:42Magic City would be a drive,
- 40:44but then the online semis are the very
- 40:46next week,
- 40:47and with her hip and her shoulder,
- 40:50the drive is too costly on her body.
- 40:54So she's picking Del Mar because the
- 40:57flight would be easier on her body,
- 40:59and she'd have an extra week to recover
- 41:01for the online if needed.
- 41:05So I think it's just...
- 41:08And if you do like what Mark did
- 41:10and you pull up all the people and
- 41:13their placements in quarterfinals,
- 41:15you can get a really good shot or
- 41:18vantage point of your shot at qualifying
- 41:22at these semifinals.
- 41:27Because I think at Del Mar,
- 41:29Jamie is in the top three of quarterfinals
- 41:32of those who signed up in her age
- 41:34group at Del Mar.
- 41:38Carolyn won quarterfinals,
- 41:40so it didn't really matter where she went.
- 41:46And I know other people had other reasons.
- 41:49I talked to one guy last night whose
- 41:51daughter is graduating the weekend of
- 41:54Magic City,
- 41:55so that took that completely out of
- 41:57context.
- 42:05uh jamie is second behind adrian winges
- 42:08from placements that is very true shanna
- 42:15you can do that for legends but no
- 42:16published leaderboard for magic i don't
- 42:18know why they don't just publish it i
- 42:21don't know makes no sense maybe they don't
- 42:25want people to game the system
- 42:32Joseph Ramirez,
- 42:33I'm graduating the week of online semis.
- 42:37What degree, Joseph?
- 42:47My college graduations,
- 42:48I wish I wouldn't have gone.
- 42:51I did it for my mother because she
- 42:54wanted to see me walk, but it really,
- 42:58it wasn't that big of a deal to
- 43:00me.
- 43:01But I get it.
- 43:02If your daughter's graduating,
- 43:04that may mean more.
- 43:08A bachelor's in cybersecurity.
- 43:10Look at you, man.
- 43:14Job of the future.
- 43:17All right, I'm going to head out,
- 43:19get back to work.
- 43:20You guys, Hattie, episode three,
- 43:22will release now in two minutes.
- 43:25Two.
- 43:26Two minutes.
- 43:27You can check that out.
- 43:28Don't forget to like and subscribe.
- 43:32You guys have killed it.
- 43:33We are at three thousand subscribers.
- 43:36When I started this thing six years ago,
- 43:39never in my wildest dreams did I think
- 43:40I'd have three thousand subscribers and
- 43:42people who actually wanted to hang out
- 43:43with me every day at lunch.
- 43:45But you guys are the best.
- 43:46Love hanging out.
- 43:48Love doing this with you guys.
- 43:50And can't wait for tomorrow where
- 43:52hopefully we'll be back.
- 43:56With that,
- 43:57we'll see everybody tomorrow on Lunch with
- 44:00the Clydesdale.
- 44:01Bye, guys.
