  Speaker 1: should consider it.
• 0:55
Speaker 2: Well, there you go.
• 0:56
Speaker 1: We try to give the best content when we put
• 0:59
  Speaker 1: this together.
• 1:00
Speaker 3: Absolutely all right, guys, let's talk about our podcast yesterday,
• 1:05
Speaker 3: Ryan Pagano, how we I was saying, well, there's so
• 1:09
Speaker 3: many teams competing for this third wild card.
• 1:11
Speaker 2: It's not usually like this, and we all made points.
• 1:14
Speaker 2: But Lou you wanted to, I don't know, push back somewhere,
• 1:17
Speaker 2: but you had some disagreements or what we said yesterday,
• 1:20
Speaker 2: go for it. Let let's stir it up a bit.
• 1:23
Speaker 1: Well. I listened to your entire podcasts and it was great.
• 1:28
Speaker 1: The conversation was great. There was a couple of things,
• 1:30
Speaker 1: I definitely, I mean it was more like wishful thinking
• 1:35
Speaker 1: I think on your part. And let's go right. Let's
• 1:37
Speaker 1: go right to the heart case. The New York Mets
• 1:41
Speaker 1: after training eight players are nowhere near in any kind
• 1:45
Speaker 1: of exciting times as they end this season. If they
• 1:48
Speaker 1: get to within five games of five hundred, they should,
• 1:52
Speaker 1: they should get the Canyon of Heroes because they're going
• 1:55
Speaker 1: nowhere and it's all about next year. And I know
• 1:58
Speaker 1: you guys are trying to pump off the lane. Six
• 2:00
Speaker 1: weeks the last week six weeks.
• 2:03
Speaker 2: Yeah, turned around where they went from lifeless to literally
• 2:06
Speaker 2: scoring almost eight ten runs a game is very fascinating
• 2:10
Speaker 2: to watch. I know, it may not lay to anything,
• 2:11
Speaker 2: but still it is kind of exciting. Even as Ryan
• 2:14
Speaker 2: was saying for twenty twenty seven build up, you know.
• 2:17
Speaker 1: Yes, and I definitely agree with that. To the twenty
• 2:20
Speaker 1: twenty seven build up. Obviously, the Mets do have some
• 2:24
Speaker 1: young guys that are going to be mainstays for years
• 2:26
Speaker 1: to come in in Ewing who's been terrific, and Bench
• 2:32
Speaker 1: who's been terrific, and this hope with the pitchers obviously McClain,
• 2:37
Speaker 1: Christian Scott coming off, Tommy John still has to there's
• 2:42
Speaker 1: still a little rough edges of there, but he's going
• 2:44
Speaker 1: to be in rotation next year. He's got terrific stuff. Thornton,
• 2:49
Speaker 1: I mean that came out of nowhere, and unfortunately they
• 2:53
Speaker 1: got to straighten out joanah Tong and he's he's had
• 2:56
Speaker 1: a bad year. And again, guys, this could be his owner.
• 3:00
Speaker 1: Tom could be hurt in this year because they brought
• 3:04
Speaker 1: him up when so many guys were hurt down the
• 3:06
Speaker 1: stretch last year and they were trying to get into
• 3:08
Speaker 1: the playoffs, and that might have screwed him up. He
• 3:11
Speaker 1: probably wasn't ready to come up. And again I have
• 3:14
Speaker 1: no idea if that affected them or not, but they
• 3:17
Speaker 1: got to straighten them out. He's only twenty one years old,
• 3:20
Speaker 1: and you know he might be on the roster next year.
• 3:25
Speaker 1: They got to get they got to get a horse.
• 3:29
Speaker 1: You know, they thought that Parolta could have been that,
• 3:32
Speaker 1: but again he he just had a bad year. And
• 3:35
Speaker 1: but again, who could have gotten rid of they got
• 3:38
Speaker 1: rid of David Peterson's pitched very well for the Cubs. Parolta,
• 3:42
Speaker 1: who hasn't pitched well in his first who starts with
• 3:45
Speaker 1: Tampa Bay, but he's had a you know, he's had
• 3:47
Speaker 1: a very good track record. And they traded their best pitcher,
• 3:51
Speaker 1: Clay Holmes, who did not have a good first start,
• 3:55
Speaker 1: but I think he's going to help the Cubs. And
• 3:57
Speaker 1: they traded their foremost effective relief pitchers and their closer
• 4:02
Speaker 1: who's been okay, he hasn't been terrible, he hasn't been great.
• 4:05
Speaker 1: Is is on the disabled list. They're playing without Soto,
• 4:10
Speaker 1: you know, their best player. So I mean, I'm not
• 4:13
Speaker 1: saying that it's all doom and gloom, but this season,
• 4:17
Speaker 1: let's just watch these young guys. Hopefully they continue to
• 4:21
Speaker 1: play and learn so next year they're already.
• 4:25
Speaker 2: I hope they don't get injured at all, and from
• 4:27
Speaker 2: this time to now, I think there's another thing there.
• 4:29
Speaker 1: So that that is true. You do not want to
• 4:31
Speaker 1: see them get injured. And you know with a calf injury.
• 4:35
Speaker 1: You know Soto's had that calf injury since Game twelve.
• 4:39
Speaker 1: Remember Game twelve is what started the twelve game losing streak,
• 4:42
Speaker 1: and he didn't play in any of them. And those
• 4:44
Speaker 1: calf injuries and we've seen it in other sports sometimes
• 4:46
Speaker 1: lead to ten to achilles ten in issues Again, would
• 4:51
Speaker 1: I like to see him back September first? Last night
• 4:54
Speaker 1: in the Mets telecast, they said he might be back
• 4:56
Speaker 1: around September first, first week of September. I don't know
• 4:59
Speaker 1: if it's if it's worth it bringing them back.
• 5:03
  Speaker 4: I mean, I don't like it's just the ewing effect
• 5:06
Speaker 4: in full force. Lou You're just.
• 5:08
Speaker 5: Seeing right now in front of your own eyes that somehow,
• 5:12
Speaker 5: magically the Mets are surprisingly looking better without their seven
• 5:17
Speaker 5: hundred and sixty five million dollar franchise. Peace, I mean,
• 5:22
Speaker 5: just try to make it make sense. But then again,
• 5:25
Speaker 5: I also can't help but wonder, Okay, if he does
• 5:28
Speaker 5: come back and the Mets get closer to five hundred.
• 5:32
Speaker 4: Then what which are they still going to have that
• 5:33
Speaker 4: same amount of success.
• 5:34
Speaker 5: I really don't know how they're going to be in September,
• 5:37
Speaker 5: assuming that he comes back, and assuming that maybe somebody
• 5:42
Speaker 5: like Jonah tong as you mentioned just a couple of
• 5:44
Speaker 5: minutes ago, Lou could perhaps be a September call up.
• 5:47
Speaker 5: And I do agree with you one hundred percent about
• 5:50
Speaker 5: Jonah Tongue that they rushed him up, and clearly you're
• 5:54
Speaker 5: seeing those negative side effects here this season with how
• 6:00
Speaker 5: horrible he's been in Triple A. There's no other way
• 6:02
Speaker 5: I can really put that. And even as limited appearances
• 6:05
Speaker 5: in the Bigs have left a ton to be desired,
• 6:09
Speaker 5: almost to the point where you can't help but wonder
• 6:10
Speaker 5: if last offseason should he have been traded instead of
• 6:14
Speaker 5: Brandon Sprot. And I mean it's Sprot. He's not doing
• 6:17
Speaker 5: that much better in Milwaukee. But you got to entertain
• 6:21
Speaker 5: those questions one way or another year.
• 6:24
Speaker 1: Yeah, no, you're right. And the thing is, everybody asked
• 6:26
Speaker 1: for Tongue first this offseason, Oh.
• 6:29
Speaker 5: No question, and everybody at the time too. If we're
• 6:32
Speaker 5: gonna play a little bit the Devil's advocate here, everybody
• 6:35
Speaker 5: preferred for Jonah tong to stay instead of Brandon sprot At,
• 6:39
Speaker 5: a potential Freddie Peralta trade. So there's no denying that
• 6:41
Speaker 5: everybody wanted Sproke excuse me tongue to stay put, and
• 6:46
Speaker 5: I would have to, you know, but it's really a
• 6:50
Speaker 5: matter now of him needing more seasoning in the minor leagues.
• 6:56
Speaker 5: Before we even entertained the thought of him becoming a
• 6:58
Speaker 5: key piece to a future rotation.
• 7:00
Speaker 1: Well, they're put there. They're rushing these guys up. He's
• 7:03
Speaker 1: twenty he's still twenty one years old, so so we'll
• 7:07
Speaker 1: we'll see what happens. But if they trade him this offseason,
• 7:09
Speaker 1: that'll be interesting. I don't think they will, but they
• 7:13
Speaker 1: have to get a horse and uh to anchor this,
• 7:17
Speaker 1: and McClain is a potential horse. But again, he's finishing
• 7:21
Speaker 1: his roop. Technically, this is still his rookie year. He
• 7:25
Speaker 1: was eligible for the Rookie of the Year, and it's
• 7:27
Speaker 1: going to be interesting to see who gets Rookie the
• 7:29
Speaker 1: Year International League is Ben's going to get it. You know,
• 7:33
Speaker 1: he's been terrific and uh, you know, watching a j
• 7:37
Speaker 1: Ewing play center field and making these circus catches one
• 7:41
Speaker 1: night after another. I mean, the kid and I saw
• 7:44
Speaker 1: the kid in spring training when I went down there,
• 7:47
Speaker 1: and you know, you see guys and they all look
• 7:50
Speaker 1: the same, whether they're the veterans or the or the
• 7:54
Speaker 1: the youngsters. He stood out and I was there with
• 7:57
Speaker 1: my brother. I said, I went, how far from the
• 8:00
  Speaker 1: major leagues?
• 8:01
Speaker 2: Louis you mentioned Ewing's excellent outfielding. I saw Ben's fielding right,
• 8:06
Speaker 2: and I've seen him in center a little bit. That
• 8:08
Speaker 2: kid's got a good future in the outfield as well.
• 8:10
Speaker 4: And look even a damn good arm at that.
• 8:13
Speaker 5: I mean, we've seen him nail a couple runners at
• 8:15
Speaker 5: home here and there.
• 8:16
Speaker 4: And his fielding, it.
• 8:18
Speaker 5: Just hasn't been talked about because everybody's talking about how
• 8:21
Speaker 5: good is bad as Alex, But then his fielding, I'm
• 8:25
Speaker 5: very glad you brought that up here because his fielding
• 8:28
Speaker 5: very very underrated in my opinion.
• 8:30
Speaker 1: Well, it's gotten better since the beginning of the year.
• 8:32
Speaker 1: Remember against Detroit he dropped that fly ball, and he
• 8:37
Speaker 1: did and he misjudged a couple of the fly balls.
• 8:42
Speaker 1: The way I like about the kid is he has
• 8:44
Speaker 1: gotten better as his rookie year has gone on. And
• 8:46
Speaker 1: remember in May he was really struggling and I thought
• 8:50
Speaker 1: they might have to send him down, and it looks
• 8:53
Speaker 1: like he's a keeper and Ryan he does. You're right,
• 8:57
Speaker 1: he has a howitzer for a right arm. So it's
• 9:02
  Speaker 1: interesting today.
• 9:04
Speaker 2: And also, you know the Lindor resurgence heading a couple
• 9:07
Speaker 2: of homers here after the trade headline. We've been talking
• 9:10
Speaker 2: about this yesterday. Yeah, Alta intervened with that Sodo Lindor relationship, and.
• 9:14
Speaker 5: If I could just interrupt real quick, I'm glad you
• 9:16
Speaker 5: brought up Lindor. If I could just bring this up
• 9:19
Speaker 5: as well, that Lindor. Now, since our last conversation, Alex,
• 9:24
Speaker 5: he's gone on the record talking about Steve, Steve Cohen
• 9:29
Speaker 5: and David Stearn's approach moving forward for twenty twenty seven
• 9:33
Speaker 5: and really answering a lot of questions about whether or
• 9:35
Speaker 5: not he wants to actually remain a met and all that. So,
• 9:40
Speaker 5: and this was in a conversation, by the way, with
• 9:42
Speaker 5: Mike Puma the New York Post, and he basically just
• 9:46
Speaker 5: went out to say that they have the right guys,
• 9:48
Speaker 5: that Stearns is the right guy.
• 9:51
Speaker 4: Cohen is one of the.
• 9:51
Speaker 5: Best owners in sports history because he's always going to
• 9:54
Speaker 5: put He's always gonna go with the energy that needs
• 9:57
Speaker 5: to be put into the team. When you're in such
• 9:59
  Speaker 5: a big market, there isn't a thing is rebuilding a
• 10:02
Speaker 5: little bit of transition, that's it. You can't afford to
• 10:05
Speaker 5: rebuild in big markets. So I think we have not
• 10:08
Speaker 5: taken a step backwards. So Lindor here clearly defending Cohen,
• 10:14
Speaker 5: clearly defending Stearns for just.
• 10:18
Speaker 4: This very horrible season, all the way to around it.
• 10:21
Speaker 5: But I'm very curious both of your thoughts really about
• 10:26
Speaker 5: this whole Lindor quote, And do you think he's right or.
• 10:29
Speaker 4: And he being the wrong?
• 10:31
Speaker 2: Is he calling Colin the grades owner in history because
• 10:33
Speaker 2: he gave him all that money? I wonder if that that.
• 10:35
Speaker 1: Well, again, he gave him all that money, right, but
• 10:38
Speaker 1: now that his contract is tradeable, his contract isn't untradeable.
• 10:43
Speaker 1: Thirty four million year. I know that's ridiculous. It sounds
• 10:45
Speaker 1: like it's nothing. But when he signed it five years ago,
• 10:49
Speaker 1: that was a big, big contract. Now, I mean, let's.
• 10:54
Speaker 4: Say potatoes in comparison to yeah contract he gave up soccer.
• 10:58
Speaker 1: Yeah, well so, but so it is the player sosh,
• 11:01
Speaker 1: No quite one of the top Yeah, he's one of
• 11:03
Speaker 1: the top three hitters in baseball and h you know
• 11:08
Speaker 1: the one thing about and Alex knows this. There was
• 11:12
Speaker 1: no bigger Lindor critic critic than me. But you got
• 11:18
Speaker 1: to cut the guy slack like. And Alex and I
• 11:21
Speaker 1: have talked about it. He broke his wrist just before
• 11:25
Speaker 1: spring training. He had the hammock bar and he came
• 11:30
Speaker 1: back within in five weeks. Then twenty games into the
• 11:34
Speaker 1: season he has a calf muscle. He misses fifty seven games.
• 11:39
Speaker 1: Can't play without these guys, and that affects you. I
• 11:42
Speaker 1: don't care. He can't be one hundred percent. He just
• 11:45
Speaker 1: can't be. But my other question is are they going
• 11:48
Speaker 1: to find a better shortstop than Lindor next year?
• 11:53
Speaker 5: I don't think so, because realistically, who else would be
• 11:56
Speaker 5: able to fill in right now? If Lindor just suddenly
• 11:59
Speaker 5: got traded today, who realistically could fill that hole at shortstop?
• 12:04
Speaker 5: I mean, yes, I mean he's played shortstop before his
• 12:07
Speaker 5: transition to second base when he joined the Blue Jays
• 12:09
Speaker 5: in twenty one. But do you really trust him at
• 12:12
Speaker 5: this point as a major league quality shortstop?
• 12:14
Speaker 4: I really don't know about that.
• 12:16
Speaker 5: Not to mention it, I don't trust, you know, And
• 12:20
Speaker 5: Mitch Voyd especially, He's looking great in the minors, don't
• 12:22
  Speaker 5: get me wrong.
• 12:23
Speaker 4: Is he big league ready though not yet, not yet.
• 12:27
Speaker 4: His time will come eventually, though, but they.
• 12:28
Speaker 1: Don't way they just I know, they just promoted him
• 12:32
Speaker 1: to Binghamton. And I know these guys look at you,
• 12:35
Speaker 1: knowing last year he was in he was in a
• 12:37
Speaker 1: ball and now he's doing a great job with the Mets.
• 12:41
Speaker 1: So these guys do progress faster than twenty five years
• 12:45
Speaker 1: ago through the minor league system. But yeah, the Mets,
• 12:52
Speaker 1: I don't know. Voy is the future second baseman and
• 12:55
Speaker 1: as early as next year they might have to eat
• 12:57
  Speaker 1: the Simeon contract.
• 13:00
Speaker 5: Yeah, you know, especially if he approaches that twenty twenty
• 13:03
Speaker 5: two Robinson Cano territory just next year of being unhittable
• 13:06
Speaker 5: and basically unplayable, then we very much could be talking
• 13:10
Speaker 5: about a potential buyout here.
• 13:12
Speaker 4: But it seems like as of now, from what from the.
• 13:15
Speaker 5: Types of quotes that Steve Cohen has given the press
• 13:18
Speaker 5: and the fans about his future approach, it really doesn't
• 13:22
Speaker 5: seem like he wants to buy out any of these contracts.
• 13:24
Speaker 4: Yeah, a complete opposite approach of.
• 13:26
Speaker 5: Twenty two and twenty three where he was more than
• 13:28
Speaker 5: willing to eat salary if it meant getting some better pieces.
• 13:31
Speaker 4: Right down the line. But well, that's the exact opposite
• 13:35
  Speaker 4: now it is.
• 13:37
Speaker 1: And I'm sure even though he wasn't officially a Met
• 13:39
Speaker 1: employee at that time, and everything that happened at the
• 13:43
Speaker 1: end of twenty three, trading Verlander, trading Shurzer, and remember
• 13:48
Speaker 1: the Met's wronging like five games out the trade deadline,
• 13:51
Speaker 1: that was all I'm sure David Stearns was in his
• 13:55
Speaker 1: ear getting rid of Show Walter. That was all David Sterns,
• 14:00
Speaker 1: even though he wasn't officially a Met employee. Everybody knew
• 14:03
Speaker 1: that last year when he was still under contract with
• 14:06
Speaker 1: Milwaukee but was just a consultant or just collecting paychecks,
• 14:11
Speaker 1: that that he was going to be the Mets Baseball
• 14:14
Speaker 1: president of operations. So again, I don't know. I mean,
• 14:21
Speaker 1: you know, Simeon plays hard, he's a pro, but and.
• 14:25
Speaker 4: He knows what it takes to to win a World Series.
• 14:27
Speaker 5: I mean, being one of the key pieces on the
• 14:29
Speaker 5: twenty twenty three World champion Rangers will most certainly help
• 14:32
Speaker 5: with that. But I mean, then again, years ago, they
• 14:37
Speaker 5: were saying the same thing too about Roberto Alomar, you know,
• 14:40
Speaker 5: World Series champion, future Hall of Famer, But what did
• 14:43
  Speaker 5: he do.
• 14:43
Speaker 4: With the Mets? Right, I feel like a similar conversations
• 14:46
  Speaker 4: we're having.
• 14:47
Speaker 1: It's a huge difference there, my dear friend. The year
• 14:50
Speaker 1: before the Mets got him, he bet at three thirty six,
• 14:55
Speaker 1: he bet, not like Simeon with he about two twenty
• 14:59
Speaker 1: last year. I mean, he was still playing at a
• 15:01
Speaker 1: high level, and you know, some guys just flame out quickly, and.
• 15:05
Speaker 2: Alamar had a good year and I want to if
• 15:07
  Speaker 2: I'm not mistaken, so I.
• 15:08
Speaker 5: Guess a great year and then he just completely fell
• 15:12
Speaker 5: off the face of the planet. Now for semi and
• 15:14
Speaker 5: of course it's been a little slower in that regard.
• 15:17
Speaker 5: But it's gonna be highlight highlighted either way when you're
• 15:21
Speaker 5: under that big media spotlight that New York is. I mean,
• 15:24
Speaker 5: that's just naturally gonna come either way for some guys
• 15:28
Speaker 5: quick some well, but you.
• 15:30
Speaker 2: Don't see Mishek coming back. But I have a bigger
• 15:32
Speaker 2: question for you, Louis Well.
• 15:34
Speaker 1: Hold on with your question on Bashett. The only thing
• 15:38
Speaker 1: that might change this with Bishett, who's played very well
• 15:42
Speaker 1: after the first seven weeks of the season, is because
• 15:46
Speaker 1: is this potential lockout, he might opt in because depending
• 15:53
Speaker 1: on what the new rules are going to be, the
• 15:56
Speaker 1: new agreement is going to be, it might be it
• 15:59
Speaker 1: might be a disadvantage if he opts out. Remember, he's
• 16:03
Speaker 1: he's guaranteed watch forty two forty three million next year
• 16:09
Speaker 1: if he opts out, and he may not get that.
• 16:13
Speaker 1: So that's the one thing, that's the one thing we
• 16:15
Speaker 1: gotta we got to look at. And I think a
• 16:18
Speaker 1: lot of guys are going to be signed before December first.
• 16:20
Speaker 2: And what about your guy, Louis Robert Junior. What's his
• 16:24
Speaker 2: deal going to be.
• 16:24
Speaker 1: For the well, he's got I think it. I think
• 16:27
  Speaker 1: it's h he has a weird opt out. I'm not
• 16:30
Speaker 1: sure if it's a I think if the Mets have
• 16:32
Speaker 1: the opt out, or it's think.
• 16:34
Speaker 4: It's a club option. To answer your question here, Louis
• 16:37
Speaker 4: twenty million dollars I believe.
• 16:39
Speaker 1: Yeah, So whatever they have to pay him, it's probably
• 16:43
Speaker 1: like five million. If it's a club option, that probably
• 16:46
Speaker 1: just cut bait with him.
• 16:47
Speaker 4: Yeah, two million buyout if the Mets decline the club option.
• 16:51
Speaker 1: Okay, all right, so yeah, the Mets will probably give
• 16:55
Speaker 1: him the two million and say thanks, but no thanks.
• 16:58
Speaker 4: The guy's hurt go elsewhere.
• 16:59
Speaker 1: Basically, yeah, yeah, I mean, uh, you know he could.
• 17:03
Speaker 1: He can't play every day. They gotta give him a
• 17:05
Speaker 1: break every two days because it was back. He's not
• 17:09
Speaker 1: the guy, and he wasn't the guy when they or
• 17:11
Speaker 1: when they made the trade. He just wasn't. I mean,
• 17:14
Speaker 1: everybody saw it. I don't know what Sterens was seeing,
• 17:17
Speaker 1: just like I don't understand what Stearns was looking at
• 17:20
Speaker 1: when he traded Nemo. And we said that a million times.
• 17:23
Speaker 1: It's sickening. We've been repeating it over and over again.
• 17:26
Speaker 1: If you want to trade Nimo, that's fine, but you
• 17:29
Speaker 1: trade him for the wrong guy you didn't trade. I mean,
• 17:35
Speaker 1: you know, it's just makes no sense.
• 17:39
  Speaker 2: It doesn't.
• 17:40
Speaker 1: Well, well, we all and I'm not saying that Neimo
• 17:45
Speaker 1: or Alonzo would make the difference the match. That so
• 17:47
Speaker 1: many problems with injuries, you know, but you know, but
• 17:54
Speaker 1: if you're gonna trade Nemo, he kind of get you
• 17:57
Speaker 1: gotta get better. You gotta get better than Simmy and
• 18:00
Speaker 1: who has you know, who has too has two years
• 18:03
Speaker 1: to go on? Is his deal after this one? It
• 18:06
  Speaker 1: makes no sense.
• 18:08
Speaker 2: It was it was a frustrating off season and might
• 18:10
Speaker 2: head heading into another one. But I want to go
• 18:13
Speaker 2: back to my premise of yesterday, which was, I don't know.
• 18:16
Speaker 2: I feel like I haven't seen this kind of competition
• 18:19
Speaker 2: for a third wild card spot in a while. With
• 18:22
Speaker 2: the Mariners topping on it. Four games under that that's
• 18:26
Speaker 2: like the last in the pack. But if four games
• 18:28
Speaker 2: under is you know where we're at on the AO,
• 18:32
Speaker 2: that means it's a very competitive league. And then also
• 18:34
Speaker 2: on the n O side, only six and a half
• 18:35
Speaker 2: back as of yesterday. I mean it's a tight race,
• 18:39
Speaker 2: and I think people are losing sight of that or
• 18:41
Speaker 2: don't even want acknowledge it a tight race, or am
• 18:43
Speaker 2: I out of nowhere lunch Well, well I'm.
• 18:47
Speaker 1: Not saying you're out to lunch on it. But the
• 18:49
Speaker 1: reason why they they're not clutching his pennant race to
• 18:55
Speaker 1: their to their bullsom is because the Seattle Mayron has
• 19:00
Speaker 1: there are or what fifty six and sixty four? There
• 19:04
Speaker 1: are four games out there, eight games in the five hundred.
• 19:06
Speaker 1: Toronto was eight games under five hundred before they won
• 19:08
Speaker 1: three out of four. Now they're still five games under
• 19:10
Speaker 1: five hundred, but they're only two and a half out.
• 19:12
Speaker 1: You can't fool the public. It's bad baseball. And this
• 19:15
Speaker 1: time there has to be there.
• 19:17
Speaker 2: After trading schoobl and Mies, we can make sense.
• 19:21
Speaker 4: Make it make sense.
• 19:23
Speaker 1: Yeah, no, I mean, and that's what it is, guys.
• 19:26
Speaker 1: If this was a race where you have a lot
• 19:32
Speaker 1: of great teams at the bottom of the playoff positions,
• 19:38
Speaker 1: and you're not gonna have great teams, but I mean
• 19:41
Speaker 1: good teams. The Maron, the Mariners can hit.
• 19:46
  Speaker 5: You know.
• 19:47
Speaker 1: You see the American League Central, you see one crummy
• 19:50
Speaker 1: team after the other. There's there's no other way to
• 19:54
Speaker 1: say it. The Indian, the Indians, the Guardians can hit.
• 19:58
Speaker 1: The White Scots are a nice story, but just think
• 20:04
Speaker 1: they might have home field in the first round if
• 20:09
Speaker 1: depending on what happens to the Western Division winner, if
• 20:13
Speaker 1: the White Sox continue to do with what they're doing,
• 20:15
Speaker 1: and what the White Sox are doing, it's remarkable considering
• 20:18
Speaker 1: where the White Sox have been the last three years.
• 20:21
Speaker 1: You know, they've lost watch three hundred and forty five
• 20:23
Speaker 1: three d and forty eight games combined the last three years.
• 20:26
Speaker 1: Whatever happens to them, no matter. Even though the American
• 20:28
Speaker 1: League is not a good league, This year. This is
• 20:32
Speaker 1: a huge year, positive year for the White Sox, no
• 20:35
Speaker 1: matter what happens. I mean to just think two years
• 20:38
Speaker 1: ago they were they lost one hundred and twenty one games.
• 20:42
Speaker 1: They've lost over one hundred games three years in a row,
• 20:45
Speaker 1: and they got some good young talent the team that
• 20:48
Speaker 1: the team that way. Yeah, yeah, no, absolutely, there's a whole.
• 20:52
Speaker 2: Game for them, that's for sure.
• 20:54
  Speaker 1: You know.
• 20:54
Speaker 2: Numerically though, and I don't know if you're wanting agree
• 20:56
Speaker 2: with me on this point I made yesterday, Numerically, the
• 21:00
Speaker 2: Yankees could be uh one of the best wild card
• 21:03
Speaker 2: teams uh in there in a while. I don't know.
• 21:06
Speaker 2: I feel like eighty something ninety plus record ninety one
• 21:10
Speaker 2: records are pretty good record for a wild card team
• 21:13
Speaker 2: that's probably gonna be out a lot of divisional records too,
• 21:16
  Speaker 2: which just I.
• 21:16
Speaker 1: Mean, I could thinking off the top of my head
• 21:19
Speaker 1: when they had that dumb wild card playoff, I think
• 21:24
Speaker 1: the the Cardinals one year won ninety seven games and
• 21:28
Speaker 1: the Pirates won ninety eight and they had one of
• 21:31
Speaker 1: them was eliminating that one game playoff. I forget what
• 21:34
Speaker 1: year it was, but been yeah, I mean that was ridiculous. One,
• 21:41
Speaker 1: you know, you win ninety eight, ninety or whatever. It's
• 21:43
Speaker 1: not they the Pirates won ninety eight and I think
• 21:46
Speaker 1: the Cardinals won ninety seven. You play one game and
• 21:48
Speaker 1: then go home, you know.
• 21:51
Speaker 2: So there's been some really and that's why they expended
• 21:54
Speaker 2: the three games at least.
• 21:55
Speaker 1: So yes, and three games is fine.
• 21:58
Speaker 2: That'd be a four game set also, though, like I
• 22:01
Speaker 2: don't know if that'll ever happen. I'm waiting for that
• 22:02
  Speaker 2: to happen.
• 22:03
  Speaker 5: So, you know.
• 22:05
Speaker 1: But getting back to the Yankees, the Yankees are going
• 22:09
Speaker 1: to be good because they have three number one type
• 22:12
Speaker 1: starters in their rotation, and they have a deep rotation.
• 22:16
Speaker 1: They have Cole legitimate number one starter. They have Freed
• 22:20
Speaker 1: legitimate number one starter, and they have Splitler a number one,
• 22:23
Speaker 1: legitimate number one starter. Uh. And they they're deep with Warren.
• 22:28
Speaker 1: You know, he's a number five starter.
• 22:30
Speaker 2: He's not great, but he's and by the way, they
• 22:32
Speaker 2: still have Rodin coming back up.
• 22:33
Speaker 1: They might have Sma absolutely, I mean, boy, they I
• 22:37
Speaker 1: mean they have the post.
• 22:39
Speaker 2: Season that would be really good right.
• 22:41
Speaker 4: There, not even as a starter, but as a high
• 22:43
  Speaker 4: leverage bullpen arm.
• 22:44
Speaker 5: How much of a difference would that make for the
• 22:46
Speaker 5: Yankees to be able to have his services there.
• 22:49
Speaker 2: I think that's why they got run into DeVault despite
• 22:52
Speaker 2: his It's edition by some traction exactly because the Vault
• 22:55
Speaker 2: was a mess. But I think they could see some
• 22:57
Speaker 2: others coming in that bullpen in October, so they only
• 23:00
Speaker 2: get them out of there now.
• 23:01
Speaker 1: Now that the Yankees issue is going to be And
• 23:04
Speaker 1: you know that they've seen this in the in the past,
• 23:08
Speaker 1: even when they've had Stanton and Judge in the postseason,
• 23:14
Speaker 1: Judge has had a tough time hitting good playoff pitching. Remember,
• 23:19
Speaker 1: you're not seeing uh, you know, you're not seeing the
• 23:23
Speaker 1: dregs of the league come playoff time. Most of the
• 23:27
Speaker 1: time you're seeing it. You're seeing outstanding pitchers. So they
• 23:32
Speaker 1: need Judge back. I know you you were talking about
• 23:34
Speaker 1: Bellinger yesterday on your podcast. Yeah, you want Bellinger back.
• 23:40
Speaker 1: But let's face it, Bellinger's home and road splits are terrible.
• 23:46
Speaker 1: Is batting a three twenty five at home nine to
• 23:49
Speaker 1: eighty one ops, eight home runs on the road two
• 23:53
Speaker 1: h five batting average, three home runs five ninety five ops.
• 23:58
  Speaker 1: It's a huge difference. And I'm I'm a big Bellinger fan.
• 24:01
Speaker 1: I like Cody Belger's game. I was hoping the Mets
• 24:04
Speaker 1: might sign him, but he's definitely a Yankee. Stadium is
• 24:09
Speaker 1: definitely tailored for Cody Bellinger's left handed hitting style.
• 24:14
Speaker 2: Even though they into the right field, the right field
• 24:18
Speaker 2: line like just the doubles online. He just he's got
• 24:20
Speaker 2: a sweet wing for that ballpark. I'll tell you, yeah,
• 24:22
  Speaker 2: he does.
• 24:23
Speaker 1: The guy that they need back and to be effective
• 24:25
Speaker 1: is the best player in the American League.
• 24:27
Speaker 2: Yeah, Aaron Judge, no question, absolutely quick.
• 24:31
Speaker 5: That's how the Yankees get to the World Series. If
• 24:33
Speaker 5: there is a path for them to make it to
• 24:35
Speaker 5: the World Series this year, it all start.
• 24:37
  Speaker 1: I mean, there's a wide highway pass. It's a five laneer.
• 24:43
Speaker 1: It's a five lane highway for them to get get
• 24:46
Speaker 1: to the World Series this year. The best team in
• 24:48
Speaker 1: the American League is the Tampa.
• 24:50
Speaker 2: Bay Rays, who are up supporting against the A's and
• 24:54
Speaker 2: I'll tell you they're on an eight game win streak.
• 24:56
Speaker 2: But they faced the A's at the right time. I think,
• 24:58
Speaker 2: just like the Dodgers facing the roads are at the
• 25:01
Speaker 2: right time to get them back on track a little bit.
• 25:03
Speaker 1: But you make a very good point. You make a
• 25:06
Speaker 1: very good point, Alex. When the Red Sox were steaming
• 25:09
Speaker 1: hot up until Saturday that where they were thirty one
• 25:13
Speaker 1: and five. Now they've lost four in a row. They
• 25:16
Speaker 1: played Tampa and Campa got swept. When you're playing well,
• 25:23
Speaker 1: it doesn't matter who you're playing, like the Red Sox
• 25:26
Speaker 1: were playing then. Now the Red Sox have had They've
• 25:29
Speaker 1: lost four games in a row to two teams under
• 25:33
Speaker 1: well four or five excuse me, the teams under five hundred,
• 25:36
Speaker 1: the Pathetic Athletics, and they've lost to Toronto, one of
• 25:39
Speaker 1: the most disappointing teams in the American League. Yes, they've
• 25:43
Speaker 1: had their pitching injuries. I understand that the Toronto has,
• 25:47
Speaker 1: but for them to be struggling from day one is surprising.
• 25:53
Speaker 1: Detroit too, I mean Detroit since last September first, when
• 25:57
Speaker 1: they started choking away that huge lead against Cleveland Jim
• 26:03
Speaker 1: Today they're very disappointing. The other team, that's very disappointing.
• 26:09
Speaker 1: You talk about all these young players, and we talked
• 26:12
Speaker 1: about in the past, Baltimore Baltimore Gunnar Henderson, Botting two fifteen,
• 26:18
Speaker 1: Jackson Holliday, another guy who's drafted number one. They got
• 26:22
Speaker 1: rid of Rushman who was drafted number one. Overall, they're young,
• 26:26
Speaker 1: people haven't come through for them, and their best player
• 26:31
  Speaker 1: is Pete Alonzo.
• 26:33
Speaker 2: Yes he has. He's been quite a he's been quite
• 26:36
Speaker 2: a quite an impression. All Right, we gotta get to
• 26:38
Speaker 2: this before we go, and I don't even really care
• 26:40
Speaker 2: about football right now, but we got to get into
• 26:42
Speaker 2: the bigger news today of the big sale that happened
• 26:45
Speaker 2: with the Lakers, another sale one in as many years.
• 26:49
Speaker 2: It feels like, so what are your take what's your
• 26:51
Speaker 2: takeaway on that, Louis.
• 26:53
Speaker 1: My takeaway on that is when I joined the NBA
• 26:57
Speaker 1: in the New Jersey Nets in nineteen eighty one, teams
• 27:00
Speaker 1: worth five six seven million dollars, the Nets worth six
• 27:06
Speaker 1: seven million dollars back in nineteen eighty one. And if
• 27:09
Speaker 1: you were telling me that a non NFL team was
• 27:13
Speaker 1: being sold for twelve point five billion dollars, to me,
• 27:18
Speaker 1: it's mind boggling, really.
• 27:20
Speaker 2: And the answer there and ten billion dollars worth now apparently.
• 27:24
Speaker 1: Yeah, Well, I mean what you see when from Forbes
• 27:28
Speaker 1: saying that these franchise values add a couple of billion
• 27:32
Speaker 1: to whoever they are, whatever you know, whatever they are.
• 27:37
Speaker 5: It's especially if it's the Lakers that we're talking about here,
• 27:41
Speaker 5: because I mean, look, look, this wouldn't happen for say,
• 27:44
Speaker 5: the Milwaukee Bucks or whatever.
• 27:46
Speaker 1: But a lot of it might Milwaukee Bucks. But they're
• 27:50
Speaker 1: gonna even if you want to buy a Milwaukee Bucks, they're.
• 27:53
Speaker 4: Gonna go at least a couple of billion.
• 27:54
Speaker 1: I'm sure the Milwaukee Bucks you probably can uh get
• 28:00
Speaker 1: probably six billion to buy using you guys, I'm telling you,
• 28:07
  Speaker 1: it's it's crazy. It's crazy times.
• 28:11
Speaker 2: And sure with the Dodger owner under scrutiny or something
• 28:15
Speaker 2: with insurance, I don't know exactly what's with Mark Walter. Yeah,
• 28:17
  Speaker 2: I don't know what's going on there, but I heard
• 28:19
Speaker 2: there's something going on.
• 28:20
Speaker 1: Then he bought part of Lakers last year, I believe
• 28:23
Speaker 1: from the Bus family.
• 28:24
Speaker 5: Yeah, so he initially he purchased the Lakers from Genie
• 28:29
Speaker 5: Buss and the rest of the Bus family. And I
• 28:32
Speaker 5: don't recall off the top of my head how much
• 28:34
Speaker 5: he how much it was exactly, but I know it
• 28:36
Speaker 5: was a similar amount to the twelve point five billion
• 28:41
Speaker 5: that he would be receiving in this sale if this
• 28:45
Speaker 5: goes through it, of course, I mean that's still up
• 28:47
Speaker 5: to the NBA's Board of Governors to approve it.
• 28:50
Speaker 4: In the first place. So for all we know, this
• 28:52
Speaker 4: might not even happen. It's up to the rest of
• 28:54
  Speaker 4: the owners.
• 28:54
Speaker 1: But it doesn't see what happens here, you know, it'll
• 28:58
Speaker 1: happen unless there's something, uh, you know, a little fishy
• 29:03
Speaker 1: they want to happen, because if they see that the
• 29:05
Speaker 1: Lakers are twelve point five billion, that jacks up the
• 29:08
Speaker 1: price of every other franchise that might possibly be sold
• 29:12
Speaker 1: in the next couple of years. Yeah, I mean it
• 29:15
Speaker 1: not as something unscrupulous.
• 29:17
Speaker 5: And it is telling though that he gave control of
• 29:19
Speaker 5: the Rangers to his son after that. Yeah, you never
• 29:22
Speaker 5: know where things could be heading.
• 29:23
Speaker 4: And especially with the whole news months ago about the
• 29:26
Speaker 4: Knicks and the Rangers that they might become publicly traded companies.
• 29:30
  Speaker 2: Now, yeah, that's that's a real There's.
• 29:32
Speaker 4: Still a whole big if here at those two franchise.
• 29:37
  Speaker 2: And I don't know, does I mean Bob Viker's not
• 29:39
Speaker 2: win Doesney anymore correct? Because I mean, no, no.
• 29:43
  Speaker 1: He's not, but he's he's uh you know, now he's
• 29:47
Speaker 1: involved with the Lakers and the other guy I never
• 29:50
Speaker 1: heard of. But now again, the other thing is why
• 29:53
Speaker 1: these guys buy Let's face it, until these guys might
• 29:57
Speaker 1: be tremendously successful in the life billionaires, but we never
• 30:02
Speaker 1: hear of him until they become owners of sports teams.
• 30:06
Speaker 1: We could you could take that back even to uh
• 30:08
Speaker 1: when when Steinburn bought the Yankees for ten million, and.
• 30:11
Speaker 2: I was a ship owner, ship maker, ship care guy.
• 30:14
Speaker 1: You know, if he had stay in that business, he
• 30:16
Speaker 1: would be he would still be a multi millionaire. That's
• 30:18
Speaker 1: surely successful, but nobody would have known.
• 30:21
  Speaker 5: Who he is.
• 30:23
Speaker 2: And you know, he really does not like the Yankees
• 30:25
Speaker 2: in Cleveland. That's the interesting part. Like he loved his
• 30:28
Speaker 2: his Indians back in the day, and then he bought
• 30:30
  Speaker 2: the Yankees.
• 30:30
Speaker 5: Well, he had a minority share, I believe in the
• 30:32
Speaker 5: Indians score. He bought into his Yankees interests. Sven and
• 30:36
  Speaker 5: he's a He's a huge basket god.
• 30:39
Speaker 1: Rest is soul. He was a huge basketball fan before
• 30:41
Speaker 1: the ABA. There was a league in the early sixties
• 30:44
Speaker 1: called the American Basketball League and he had a uh
• 30:49
Speaker 1: he had a piece of that Cleveland team in the
• 30:53
Speaker 1: American Basketball leagu The league lasted for just a couple
• 30:56
Speaker 1: of years, and I believe he became a minority owner
• 30:59
Speaker 1: of the Carlo Bulls during the time I was with
• 31:02
Speaker 1: the Nets and then he had to sell that when
• 31:04
Speaker 1: he bore the piece of the nets, you know, around
• 31:07
Speaker 1: two thousand or ninety nine, and it was effort, you know,
• 31:10
Speaker 1: for two three years before Yankee Nets sold sold the teams.
• 31:17
Speaker 2: And that's where I got to know Lewis Katz and
• 31:18
Speaker 2: the whole family because you know, the Yankee Nets partnership
• 31:22
Speaker 2: happened exactly the right time that I happened to meet
• 31:24
Speaker 2: him over those few years, and that's how the Devils
• 31:27
Speaker 2: ended up in the suite when they won the Cup
• 31:29
Speaker 2: in three. I mean a lot and people don't really
• 31:32
Speaker 2: remember this, I don't think, but you know, the Devil's
• 31:35
Speaker 2: and Nets were very close in that era because of
• 31:37
Speaker 2: Yankee Nets, weren't they? Or am I mistaken?
• 31:40
Speaker 1: Yeah? No, we had to work together. We you know,
• 31:42
Speaker 1: mister Lambarello was our boss for both teams, so we
• 31:45
Speaker 1: knew we did. There was a lot of crossover.
• 31:48
Speaker 2: So yeah, Wine and Lewis Katz oversaw both those teams.
• 31:52
Speaker 2: It was just an interesting era, that's for sure. And
• 31:55
Speaker 2: you know it's great to see Chico rest still around
• 31:58
Speaker 2: from that whole time doing game with Lucklin.
• 32:01
Speaker 1: Well, during those three years that we were together, the
• 32:04
Speaker 1: next one to the finals twice. The Devils went to
• 32:07
Speaker 1: the finals twice and they won one cup. Yeah, so
• 32:10
Speaker 1: that was exciting. That was an exciting people.
• 32:13
  Speaker 2: Now, I can't believe I'm saying this, but about a
• 32:16
Speaker 2: month and a few two weeks a month, we're nearly
• 32:19
Speaker 2: almost a month away from the opening night in the hockey.
• 32:22
  Speaker 1: Now.
• 32:22
Speaker 2: I know the Knicks are about twelve hundred bucks or
• 32:25
Speaker 2: so more maybe two thousand for opening night my birthday
• 32:29
Speaker 2: October twentieth, the batteries night. But the fact I'm saying
• 32:33
Speaker 2: hockey is just over a month is insane. We're normally
• 32:36
Speaker 2: so them opening mid October, so this is gonna be
• 32:38
Speaker 2: a very interesting change seeing them start in September. It
• 32:41
Speaker 2: does change the season a little bit, doesn't it.
• 32:43
Speaker 1: It does. It does. So when you look at the
• 32:46
Speaker 1: calendar and you see that the Islands are gonna be
• 32:48
Speaker 1: open up in Toronto on September thirtieth, and the Ranges
• 32:54
Speaker 1: the two nights before, yeah, it's weird. I have to
• 32:58
Speaker 1: admit to see September regular season game is weird.
• 33:02
Speaker 2: So, but that means we're gonna have it. We're gonna
• 33:04
Speaker 2: have spring, We're gonna have regular We're gonna have training
• 33:07
Speaker 2: games or you know, preseason in the middle of September.
• 33:09
Speaker 2: That's normally October thing for hockey, you know, like that late.
• 33:13
Speaker 4: September is when the preseason games would start.
• 33:16
Speaker 5: That's how it was just last year, late September you
• 33:18
Speaker 5: had your preseason sleaate and then you'd open up the
• 33:21
Speaker 5: season maybe like a week or two into October. That's
• 33:24
Speaker 5: at least how things were in the past couple of
• 33:26
Speaker 5: years minus the COVID year. But now, I mean, it
• 33:29
Speaker 5: just adds a whole new interesting layer that they're gonna
• 33:33
Speaker 5: be competing with the end of the baseball regular season.
• 33:38
Speaker 5: And that's where a lot of my curiosity factor arises.
• 33:43
Speaker 5: The fact that they're gonna be competing now at the
• 33:45
Speaker 5: end of the baseball regular season and all those great
• 33:48
Speaker 5: storylines that we could probably be getting from the Pennant race,
• 33:52
Speaker 5: now hockey's got to compete against that. I really don't
• 33:55
Speaker 5: know how to quite feel about that. And this isn't
• 33:58
Speaker 5: even This isn't even just because that the.
• 34:00
Speaker 2: Gold Cards series and then the opening and then the
• 34:02
Speaker 2: hockey starts riding the same time, or because I know
• 34:06
Speaker 2: the season ends at twenty seventh, or is a twenty eighth,
• 34:08
Speaker 2: right or something for baseball, something like that.
• 34:10
Speaker 5: Yeah, so so I believe that they'd be competing with
• 34:12
Speaker 5: the Wildcard Series either way.
• 34:13
Speaker 4: Yeah, that's a ton of games over there too, that's
• 34:17
Speaker 4: I'm thinking. So that's competition, and.
• 34:19
Speaker 2: Then you'll have Giants full swing by then week two
• 34:21
Speaker 2: or three. So it's gonna be a fun fall ahead,
• 34:24
Speaker 2: I think. Now, I know you want to spring uh
• 34:27
Speaker 2: spring training. Listen to me. I know you want to
• 34:29
Speaker 2: talk about training camp. I guess because the Giants are
• 34:31
Speaker 2: in West Virginia, I could care that's what they're up to,
• 34:33
Speaker 2: because it's like it's far away, you know.
• 34:36
  Speaker 5: But but.
• 34:39
Speaker 1: Just a couple of things. I mean that Giants are
• 34:41
Speaker 1: back in East Rutherford now they were they remember they
• 34:44
Speaker 1: went to West Virginia because of uh, the World Cup
• 34:49
Speaker 1: was messing up the Middle Lands, you know, and the
• 34:51
Speaker 1: Giants was supposed to have the facilities completed.
• 34:54
Speaker 2: But I still that they should have kept the grass
• 34:56
Speaker 2: in for the Giants that term, Oh.
• 35:00
Speaker 1: Think would have been great.
• 35:00
Speaker 5: The allegations, by the way, until they get rid of
• 35:03
Speaker 5: that turf for once. Yeah, there never be the allegations
• 35:06
Speaker 5: of having the worst.
• 35:07
Speaker 1: The Jets and Giants want that the players want want
• 35:11
Speaker 1: that grass field desperately.
• 35:14
Speaker 4: But I mean their ligaments are getting torn up left,
• 35:18
  Speaker 4: right and center.
• 35:18
Speaker 1: Well again, now look at in the first ten days
• 35:23
Speaker 1: of training camp, how many guys have gotten hurt and
• 35:25
Speaker 1: then they and they're playing mostly on grass their training
• 35:28
Speaker 1: camp and and they've been hurt. But again there's still
• 35:31
Speaker 1: a big difference turf U to UH to regular natural surface.
• 35:37
Speaker 1: So I would love to see that. But a couple
• 35:39
Speaker 1: of things in hockey real quick, and then UH, Alex
• 35:42
Speaker 1: you can wrap it up. Quin News can be a
• 35:46
Speaker 1: free free agent at the end of this year. There's
• 35:50
Speaker 1: been no I haven't heard anything from Minnesota from Bill Garren.
• 35:55
Speaker 1: What they doing? Are they going to sign them? Is
• 35:57
Speaker 1: uh he's going to force a tray? Is he waiting
• 36:01
Speaker 1: to uh be a free agent at the end of
• 36:03
Speaker 1: the year because is he going to be a devil?
• 36:05
Speaker 1: Does he want does he want to play with other brothers?
• 36:07
Speaker 1: Is he gonna shine a Is he going to sign
• 36:10
Speaker 1: a short term deal to match up with with Jack
• 36:13
Speaker 1: Hughes' contract, which has three more years to go, so
• 36:16
Speaker 1: they can go as a pair in three years. I
• 36:19
Speaker 1: don't think that's gonna happen because of the young excu's
• 36:24
Speaker 1: brother signing an eight year deal. So that's something to
• 36:28
Speaker 1: keep an eye on even before the season begins. Uh,
• 36:33
Speaker 1: when yous are they going to trade him? Are they?
• 36:36
  Speaker 5: You know?
• 36:36
Speaker 1: I mean he could be a twenty an eighteen to
• 36:39
Speaker 1: twenty million dollar guy and that never happens in the
• 36:43
Speaker 1: in the NHL. Dylan Larkin, what's gonna happen to him?
• 36:47
Speaker 1: He hasn't been traded yet? He wants to be traded?
• 36:50
Speaker 1: Is that not going to happen? Helluck says, I'm okay
• 36:54
Speaker 1: in Winnipeg. But but so Wayne keep saying, but is
• 37:00
Speaker 1: he going to be traded? He's going to be traded
• 37:01
Speaker 1: at the deadline. Just a couple of interesting things. All
• 37:05
Speaker 1: three ironically, all three of them are Americans, And uh,
• 37:10
Speaker 1: well we know one thing that I'll.
• 37:11
Speaker 2: Be keeping an eye on is uh and look, if
• 37:15
Speaker 2: I'm not mistaken, we had a busy NHL free agency
• 37:18
Speaker 2: let alone, we never usually do, but that was kind
• 37:20
Speaker 2: of busy, and everyone's keep an eye and then of
• 37:22
Speaker 2: course the draft happened and all that. But I'm kind
• 37:24
Speaker 2: of here's how Patrick Kanes and it ends his career
• 37:27
Speaker 2: with the Blackhawks, Like I wanted to go on a
• 37:29
Speaker 2: high note, you know, so that'll be kind of fun
• 37:30
Speaker 2: to watch on I think he will.
• 37:31
  Speaker 1: I mean, I think he's doing a good spot to
• 37:33
Speaker 1: end his career. So I mean that's all. That's the
• 37:36
Speaker 1: only thing I want to bring about hockey on this
• 37:39
  Speaker 1: on this.
• 37:40
Speaker 2: Glistering hot day. I know we are all we're all kind.
• 37:43
Speaker 5: Of uite the irony there, but I mean not that
• 37:47
Speaker 5: the Blackhawks are really going to be at a point
• 37:51
Speaker 5: in their franchise's history where they'd be able to compete
• 37:53
Speaker 5: for a cup. Now, don't get me wrong, it'd be
• 37:54
Speaker 5: pretty cool to see Kane hoist up Lord Stanley for.
• 37:58
  Speaker 4: One more time.
• 37:58
Speaker 5: But well, jeeze, if he could make the playoffs at
• 38:02
Speaker 5: least with the black Hawks, if this is his final
• 38:04
Speaker 5: go around, how poetic with that?
• 38:06
Speaker 2: Well one, I know one last thing because we talk
• 38:09
Speaker 2: about it with the Mets and the apathy there, but
• 38:12
Speaker 2: you look at both weeks in a row. I asked
• 38:14
Speaker 2: this to Ryan yesterday. I'll ask you old Timer's day
• 38:18
Speaker 2: ish stuff at Cityfield with the fortieth Old Timer's Day
• 38:21
Speaker 2: at Yankee Stadium. But the fans aren't turning up, is
• 38:24
  Speaker 2: Michael okay?
• 38:24
  Speaker 5: Right?
• 38:26
Speaker 2: Is there just this not caring of nostalgia or is
• 38:29
Speaker 2: there something deeper in your mind?
• 38:30
Speaker 1: Louis, you are talking to a baseball nostalgia guy. Even
• 38:38
Speaker 1: when I was younger, when I was in my teens,
• 38:42
  Speaker 1: i'd studied baseball. I mean, I know I knew who
• 38:45
Speaker 1: these guys were, whether they were Yankees or great players
• 38:51
Speaker 1: or players. They don't even have to be Hall of
• 38:53
Speaker 1: Famous from other teams. I need the history of the game.
• 38:56
Speaker 1: I enjoyed that. I'm not sure how if the young
• 38:59
Speaker 1: fan and enjoys the history of the game. I really
• 39:05
Speaker 1: don't believe that. Let's look at the met situation real quick.
• 39:09
Speaker 1: The fortieth anniversary, they told you, guys, that's a long
• 39:12
Speaker 1: time ago. If you were forty, you have to if
• 39:15
Speaker 1: you were under forty seven years old, forty eight years old,
• 39:19
Speaker 1: you don't know these guys. You have no connection to
• 39:21
Speaker 1: the eighty six months. They know Keith Hernandez and Ron
• 39:25
Speaker 1: Darling from watching them on TV. But how many guys
• 39:27
Speaker 1: can tell you what position that Keith Hernandez played? Was
• 39:31
Speaker 1: her right handed hit or left handed? Hither they probably
• 39:34
Speaker 1: don't know that. And I think that has something to
• 39:38
Speaker 1: do with it in the Yankees case. And I know
• 39:41
Speaker 1: I've said this a lot of times. The Yankees have
• 39:43
Speaker 1: been tremendously successful. They haven't had a losing season since
• 39:46
Speaker 1: nineteen ninety two. Fans become jaded. They become jaded. The
• 39:51
Speaker 1: Yankees are going to make the playoffs again? What is
• 39:53
Speaker 1: this twenty three out of twenty five years?
• 39:56
Speaker 2: Yeah, or some ridiculous, but the fact that they have
• 40:00
Speaker 2: not had a losing record in thirty plus years is yeah.
• 40:05
Speaker 2: I think I think all three of us and maybe
• 40:08
Speaker 2: you had that experience to Ryan is all three of
• 40:10
Speaker 2: us had parents that just raised us on like, you know,
• 40:14
Speaker 2: my dad loved baseball and he was always around baseball
• 40:16
Speaker 2: and baseball history. I look at kids today and their parents,
• 40:20
Speaker 2: and the parents are trying to control the kid. It's like,
• 40:22
  Speaker 2: I don't know. I can't tell the newer generations you're
• 40:25
Speaker 2: teaching kids baseball history because there's so many other things
• 40:27
Speaker 2: going on, like maybe that they we didn't have growing up.
• 40:30
Speaker 2: I don't know what the difference is, but there's something.
• 40:33
Speaker 2: Maybe social media is a big difference too, because kids
• 40:35
Speaker 2: are on the right pad now at three years old
• 40:36
Speaker 2: instead of learning, you know, baseball stuff.
• 40:38
Speaker 5: I don't know, because they're also not being shown the
• 40:40
Speaker 5: highlights from the eighties and the seventies anymore on social
• 40:43
Speaker 5: media now it's all about you know, what's trending now
• 40:46
Speaker 5: and all this. But you know, say, I say, you
• 40:49
Speaker 5: look at I don't know, a Gary Maddox highlight for example, right,
• 40:53
Speaker 5: and this was just the first person that came to
• 40:55
Speaker 5: my head and vertic Remember I think it was Harry
• 40:58
Speaker 5: Kallis saying that two thirds of the earth is covered
• 41:02
Speaker 5: by water or the other third covered by Gary monnockx
• 41:04
Speaker 5: and he made some.
• 41:04
Speaker 1: Dance actually, but like actually was Ralph Kiner who said that.
• 41:08
Speaker 5: Ralph Kiner, Okay, thank you said but yeah, but again,
• 41:13
Speaker 5: but yeah, you're not really see those kinds of highlights
• 41:15
Speaker 5: anymore from the seventies and eighties because and I guess
• 41:17
Speaker 5: there's that sort of sentiment, Okay, well what is so
• 41:20
Speaker 5: so dumb for me lately?
• 41:22
Speaker 2: Well, right, and you're seeing the kids say, want to
• 41:25
Speaker 2: hit the homers and not like do actual baseball because
• 41:28
Speaker 2: they've been growing up on watching all these guys in homers.
• 41:31
Speaker 2: I mean Lindor's highlight reel. All it was was his
• 41:34
Speaker 2: amazing home runs in Cleveland. But when he didn't do
• 41:36
Speaker 2: that his first few months in New York. It was
• 41:38
Speaker 2: all disappointing. By the way, I told you, Louis, he
• 41:40
Speaker 2: wasn't going to make match his highlight reel the first
• 41:43
Speaker 2: months in, and I kind of was right out of that,
• 41:44
Speaker 2: like I just it was amazing to me. And of
• 41:46
Speaker 2: course with Lindoor, they never even saw a pitch and
• 41:49
Speaker 2: they sign him to an extension. That was kind of
• 41:51
  Speaker 2: interesting to me.
• 41:52
Speaker 1: But well, that was like that was like getting a
• 41:56
Speaker 1: free agent, even though it was a trade, and the
• 41:57
Speaker 1: Mets the trade good players to get them. The thing is, Ryan,
• 42:04
Speaker 1: like you said a couple of seconds ago, instant gratification.
• 42:08
Speaker 1: That's what these people want. They don't, you know, they
• 42:11
Speaker 1: forget about guys who played five years ago. Again, I'm
• 42:15
Speaker 1: not again. I'm now I'm older. But even when I
• 42:18
Speaker 1: was in my teens, I knew baseball of the thirties.
• 42:22
Speaker 1: I knew Rogers hornsby stand usual. Of course, you know
• 42:27
Speaker 1: the Babe Garrick, Charlie Gerringer, May's, Monty Irvin, Larry Dobie.
• 42:34
Speaker 1: I know I knew those guys. I knew the history
• 42:36
Speaker 1: of baseball. I never, of course, I saw May's play.
• 42:39
Speaker 1: I saw May's play the last eleven years of his career.
• 42:45
Speaker 1: But I knew those guys, and I don't know if
• 42:49
Speaker 1: these if these fans.
• 42:52
Speaker 2: I'm hoping to get to Chicago for one hundred and
• 42:54
Speaker 2: fifty year anniversary of the Cubs at the end of
• 42:56
Speaker 2: the month, and you know, talk about all these legendary players.
• 43:00
Speaker 2: A lot of those guys are going to be celebrated
• 43:01
Speaker 2: that day did not even win a ring. I mean,
• 43:04
Speaker 2: you think about Ernie Banks, Rhino, you think about Mark
• 43:09
Speaker 2: great Well. I think Mark might have won with the diamondbackspace, yeah,
• 43:12
Speaker 2: but all in the Cubs he did not. But you
• 43:14
Speaker 2: think about these guys, Mickey Morendini at one point with
• 43:18
Speaker 2: the Cops, I mean, Paul Bacco, I think was was
• 43:21
Speaker 2: the catcher at one point. I mean, all these guys
• 43:24
Speaker 2: that were part of Cubs history that never won a ring.
• 43:26
Speaker 2: It's amazing to me. And it's kind of sad that
• 43:31
Speaker 2: you know whether they did not. But the point is
• 43:33
Speaker 2: is all these guys that have made history did not
• 43:34
Speaker 2: win a ring. It's quite a history there actually with
• 43:38
  Speaker 2: the Cubs.
• 43:39
Speaker 1: The other thing is maybe we've gotten to a point,
• 43:42
Speaker 1: and this is just in the Yankees case, maybe they
• 43:45
Speaker 1: shouldn't have Old Timer's Day every year. Maybe it should
• 43:48
Speaker 1: be every second year, Maybe it should be every third year.
• 43:52
Speaker 1: Maybe it's gone to the point everything changes, everything changes.
• 43:56
Speaker 1: Do you ever think you would you would see forty
• 43:58
  Speaker 1: six interleague games?
• 43:59
Speaker 2: Or well, you do it because obviously the next so
• 44:02
Speaker 2: ninety six was a one off, But then you don't
• 44:04
Speaker 2: do it in ninety seven. You do in ninety eight, ninety,
• 44:05
Speaker 2: ninety two thousand, because those three years, that three p
• 44:09
Speaker 2: needs to be remembered. I mean, that's the only way
• 44:11
Speaker 2: you're going to keep thanks for your life. So you're
• 44:13
Speaker 2: onto the thirty the anniversary of all those teams and
• 44:15
Speaker 2: to Old Timer's Day, and then maybe do it again
• 44:18
Speaker 2: in twenty twenty thirty nine or whatever.
• 44:21
Speaker 1: Maybe you just don't do it every year. And yeah,
• 44:25
Speaker 1: so there was again. You guys were there, you know,
• 44:27
Speaker 1: well Michael Kay said there was twenty two twenty three
• 44:29
Speaker 1: thousand fans there during the old timer ceremony. Eventually, yes,
• 44:33
Speaker 1: I guess they announced forty five thousand. I mean this
• 44:37
Speaker 1: obviously you're going to see a good time.
• 44:38
Speaker 2: Mean, I noticed people were coming in after the ceremony,
• 44:41
Speaker 2: I say, and I'm thinking to myself, do they not care?
• 44:44
Speaker 2: Do they not know that there was a bad time Van.
• 44:46
Speaker 1: Your answer, Alex, if they're coming in in the second
• 44:49
Speaker 1: first inning, the second inning, there's your answer that the
• 44:53
  Speaker 1: old Timer's Day doesn't have the allure. And I wasn't
• 44:56
Speaker 1: even a Yankee fan when I was growing up, but
• 44:59
Speaker 1: I watched Dult Timer's Day. I watched it and fans
• 45:03
Speaker 1: were always in the.
• 45:06
Speaker 2: Fans were always in their seats. Anyway, we got to
• 45:09
Speaker 2: go back to our radio gig, but Lou always a
• 45:11
Speaker 2: pleasure and we'll do this again soon at one log
