- 0:08Presenter: Behind the scenes of this podcast, part 6.
- 0:18Host: Hello and welcome.
- 0:19Host: Désirée is with us today, as usual.
- 0:22AI-Désirée: Hello everyone.
- 0:24Host: For those of you who does not know it, Désirée is the creator of Väruld, and we are both AI voices.
- 0:31Host: Désirée, could you tell us what you are doing with Verold right now?
- 0:36AI-Désirée: Yes.
- 0:37AI-Désirée: A few years ago, I started published Väruld material, writing about different countries, the magic, the gods, and such, and published it in books.
- 0:47AI-Désirée: But I realized that it would be better to publish in smaller items, because, well, first of all, it was physical books with their limitations.
- 0:56AI-Désirée: And well, I had published three countries in one book and three in the next, and why three?
- 1:02AI-Désirée: I don't know.
- 1:04AI-Désirée: So I'm splitting them up to separate books and staying only digital.
- 1:08AI-Désirée: Right now I'm rewriting the last of those countries, Deris.
- 1:13AI-Désirée: I hope I'm done when this episode is published.
- 1:18Host: Wow, that inspired so many questions.
- 1:21Host: Why rewriting?
- 1:23AI-Désirée: They became shorter than I intended in the first version, because the physical book could not be a brick, because then it would have been too expensive.
- 1:31AI-Désirée: And I've also learned more about what is needed.
- 1:35Host: Needed for who?
- 1:37AI-Désirée: Game masters in a tabletop role-playing game situation, for example.
- 1:41AI-Désirée: And also writers.
- 1:43Host: Game master I get, but writers?
- 1:47AI-Désirée: I hope others will write adventures too, to Väruld.
- 1:50AI-Désirée: And maybe there are writers out there who want to write fantasy, but don't want to create a whole world.
- 1:56Host: You mean a writer of novels could use Väruld?
- 2:00AI-Désirée: Sure, why not?
- 2:01AI-Désirée: Some writers write fanfiction using others' worlds and characters.
- 2:05AI-Désirée: Maybe a legal world to use could find its writers too.
- 2:10Host: I've never heard about that concept.
- 2:12Host: Let's hope it works.
- 2:14Host: Tell me more about Deris and your rewrite.
- 2:17AI-Désirée: I'm focusing much more on the society than I did in the first version.
- 2:22AI-Désirée: What kind of laws do they have, and what kind of punishments?
- 2:26AI-Désirée: And how do you behave?
- 2:28AI-Désirée: In Deris, for instance, you don't talk about money and you don't lie.
- 2:34AI-Désirée: So if you as a stranger stay at an inn and ask what the room costs, you are rude.
- 2:40AI-Désirée: And you'll get an answer like, as much as a basket of apples, or something like that.
- 2:45AI-Désirée: If you ask if your dress looks good, you could get an answer like, those boots look comfortable, if the person does not think it looks good.
- 2:55AI-Désirée: You don't lie, but you're not bluntly honest either.
- 2:59AI-Désirée: Each country now is about three times as long as the first version.
- 3:04Host: Did you write things then, in the first version, that are not part of the new version?
- 3:10AI-Désirée: Some.
- 3:11AI-Désirée: In Deris's case, I had an island with a glacier, while it was hot baking desert on the mainland.
- 3:17AI-Désirée: I think I was inspired by the glacier in Nevada in the US, but the one I had written just didn't feel likely, and ChatGPT agreed.
- 3:26AI-Désirée: At the moment, I think it will be rare hailstorms instead, but the whole environment was based on a cave entrance blocked by the glacier.
- 3:35AI-Désirée: I'll see what I do about that.
- 3:37AI-Désirée: It is a fantasy world, but I want it to feel true.
- 3:41AI-Désirée: No flying islands just because it gives you a new challenge and it looks good on the illustration.
- 3:47Host: When you're done with Deris, what will happen then?
- 3:51AI-Désirée: I'll finish a rewrite of the two novels I have, taking place in Väruld.
- 3:56AI-Désirée: When I wrote them, the world was not really ready, so now when I have a functional world, I'll do some rewriting.
- 4:04AI-Désirée: I'll guess the language needs an update too.
- 4:07AI-Désirée: One of them is almost done, but I got cold feet and chose to finish the countries first.
- 4:12AI-Désirée: Then I'm planning on writing an adventure for tabletop RPG for this world.
- 4:18AI-Désirée: And then I have Sahafi.
- 4:20Host: Sahafi?
- 4:22AI-Désirée: A written language.
- 4:24AI-Désirée: A logographic language. I have 350 symbols but need to make some decisions about grammar before I continue. And practical issues about file structure too. I think I read somewhere that a functional language need about a thousand symbols.
- 4:42Host: Wow, I guess you're never bored.
- 4:46Host: No.
- 4:46Host: Thank you for today.
- 4:49Host: If you haven't, click to follow this podcast, and if you can, write a review and recommend it to others.
- 4:56AI-Désirée: Yes, please do.
- 4:58AI-Désirée: Thank you for listening.
- 5:03Presenter: Thank you for listening to Stories from Väruld.
- 5:05Presenter: In the next episode, Lore, the Creation of the Three Planets.
