- Lucas: Hey Luna, ready for another episode of Learn French with Fexingo? Luna: Absolutely! I've been practicing my possessives, but I'm ready for something new. Lucas: Great! Today we're talking about the weather. Specifically, rainy weather. You know, like when you look out the window and... it's raining. Luna: Oh, I know that feeling. It's been raining a lot lately. So, how do I say 'it's raining' in French? Lucas: It's 'Il pleut.' Let's say it together: Il pleut. Luna: Il pleut. That's pretty straightforward. Lucas: Exactly. And you know, if you're finding these episodes helpful, we really appreciate when listeners support the show. It keeps us ad-free and focused on teaching. You can find us at buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. Luna: Yeah, it really helps us keep making these lessons. Now, back to the rain. So, 'Il pleut' — I can use that when I see rain? Lucas: Yes, but what if it's also windy? You can say 'Il y a du vent.' That means 'It's windy.' Luna: Il y a du vent. So when it's rainy and windy, I can say 'Il pleut et il y a du vent'? Lucas: Exactly. And when the weather is bad overall, we say 'Il fait mauvais.' That's 'It's bad weather.' Luna: Il fait mauvais. So if it's raining and windy, it's 'il fait mauvais'. Lucas: Right. And what do you need when it rains? A 'parapluie' — an umbrella. So you can tell someone 'Prends un parapluie' — 'Take an umbrella.' Luna: Prends un parapluie. That's useful. So if I'm going out in the rain, I should 'prendre un parapluie'. Lucas: Exactly. Now let's practice all four phrases in a mini conversation. I'll ask 'Quel temps fait-il?' which means 'What's the weather like?' You answer using our phrases. Luna: Okay, ask me! Lucas: Quel temps fait-il? Luna: Il pleut et il y a du vent. Il fait mauvais. Prends un parapluie! Lucas: Bravo! You just gave a full weather report. Let's say each one one more time: Il pleut. Luna: Il pleut. Lucas: Il y a du vent. Luna: Il y a du vent. Lucas: Il fait mauvais. Luna: Il fait mauvais. Lucas: Prends un parapluie. Luna: Prends un parapluie. Lucas: And Quel temps fait-il? Luna: Quel temps fait-il? Great, now I can talk about rainy weather. Lucas: You sure can. Practice these phrases, and next time it rains, you'll be ready. Thanks for joining us on Fexingo. Luna: See you next time!
