- 0:16[UNKNOWN]: It is June on Grimalkin Lane, which means it is Pride Month.
- 0:19[UNKNOWN]: Always my favorite time on this show.
- 0:21[UNKNOWN]: We are here to celebrate with some extra fun to content this month.
- 0:25[UNKNOWN]: But we get to open the month with an incredible read of X-Men number 103.
- 0:31[UNKNOWN]: We are finishing up the Black Tom Juggernaut story, and we're making it an entire Black Tom themed month on the show as we wrap up with the trial of Black Tom Cassidy.
- 0:40[UNKNOWN]: Immediately after this script read, please stay tuned for an incredible interview.
- 0:44[UNKNOWN]: Jettie Isabella and Margo Pioi will both be with me so stay tuned for that wonderful interview immediately following this.
- 0:51[UNKNOWN]: I'm Chad Anderson, I am your narrator today.
- 0:54[UNKNOWN]: Hi there, I'm Harold Scaram.
- 0:55[UNKNOWN]: I am going to be playing the parts of Storm and Emanuel Downham.
- 0:59[UNKNOWN]: I might do, and I will be at Colossus.
- 1:02[UNKNOWN]: I'm Kevin Canary, and I will be Nightcrawler and Kelsen.
- 1:05[UNKNOWN]: I'm Sean Beverage, and I'll be playing Banshee, and everybody's favorite author of Oliver Twist to Ken.
- 1:11[UNKNOWN]: Justin Wilder, I will be Professor Xavier, Phil Halorin, and I am Andre Mason.
- 1:16[UNKNOWN]: I will be Eric Dredd, Donald O'Brody, and a thug, and also Wolverine.
- 1:21[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, so Sean Rouhani, everybody, couldn't make it for the main script, but stay tuned.
- 1:24[UNKNOWN]: He's going to join us for a different classic X-Men backup story later, but thanks Andre for pitching in today.
- 1:29[UNKNOWN]: You're welcome.
- 1:31[UNKNOWN]: I am Ken Chris, and I am playing Jaggernaut.
- 1:33[UNKNOWN]: Hi, I'm Manning Chopin Motha.
- 1:35[UNKNOWN]: I will be playing Black Tom, Essady, and...
- 1:38[UNKNOWN]: Myodamic attack hurt.
- 1:40[UNKNOWN]: Oh, it's Seth Martell with no cyclops this entire episode.
- 1:44[UNKNOWN]: So I will be a bridge, bridge, no cyclops orders.
- 1:49[UNKNOWN]: We miss Alicia and Xmen number 103.
- 1:52[UNKNOWN]: On the cover, we see an aerial battle on the turret of a castle.
- 1:56[UNKNOWN]: Juggernaut has ripped off the piece of wall, Black Tom is firing an energy blast from his shellily, and the blast narrowly misses a flying storm.
- 2:05[UNKNOWN]: Banshee is rising, night crawler clings for dear life, the caption reads death siege, and on the matching cover on classic X-Men number 11, it's almost the same from a different perspective, but this one shows Colossus climbing up the front wall.
- 2:19[UNKNOWN]: The art on that one is by Art Adams, the original Dave Cockrum.
- 2:23[UNKNOWN]: This issue is from February 1977, with Chris Claremont and Dave Cockrum on the main creative team with Sam Granger on Inks, Janice Cohen on Colors, John Costanza on Letters, Archie Goodwin is the editor.
- 2:35[UNKNOWN]: We are adding in the bonus pages from the main story in classic X-Men number 11 that art being by John Bolton as well.
- 2:43[UNKNOWN]: Cyclops, Storm, Banshee, Knight Crawler, Wolverine, Colossus.
- 2:48[UNKNOWN]: Children of the Adam, students of Charles Xavier, mutants feared and hated by the world they have sworn to protect.
- 2:54[UNKNOWN]: These are the strangest heroes of all.
- 2:56[UNKNOWN]: Stanley presents the uncanny ex-men in the fall of the tower.
- 3:01[UNKNOWN]: Cassidy Keep, County Mayo, Ireland.
- 3:03[UNKNOWN]: Leprechaun's all dressed in brown and green, each stand in just 8 to 12 inches tall, carry the unconscious form of night crawler down a stone hallway.
- 3:12[UNKNOWN]: The one in the lead carries a torch.
- 3:14[UNKNOWN]: Well, did you hear Donu?
- 3:15[UNKNOWN]: The castle's gonna quiet?
- 3:17[UNKNOWN]: Oh no.
- 3:20[UNKNOWN]: Who's Patrick?
- 3:21[UNKNOWN]: Oh, no, that's Sean!
- 3:23[UNKNOWN]: So it's gone real quiet because he ain't here!
- 3:25[UNKNOWN]: Uh, do we not have a Patrick?
- 3:27[UNKNOWN]: No, it was Sean.
- 3:27[UNKNOWN]: Oh, we were Sean Rahani times.
- 3:29[UNKNOWN]: Sorry, uh, who wants to give us a leprechaun?
- 3:32[UNKNOWN]: Aye!
- 3:32[UNKNOWN]: No!
- 3:35[UNKNOWN]: Okay, time for Jeremy McSignfeld to make his appearance spin.
- 3:38[UNKNOWN]: Boy, the battle is over with Black Tom Cossity and Juggernaut the victors.
- 3:42[UNKNOWN]: That is for Bunchy and his fellow X-Men.
- 3:44[UNKNOWN]: Throw a list where he's dead.
- 3:45[UNKNOWN]: Not at all, Paradeg.
- 3:46[UNKNOWN]: He managed to save this one.
- 3:47[UNKNOWN]: All night crawler.
- 3:48[UNKNOWN]: Now, how's up, the laddings?
- 3:50[UNKNOWN]: And let us get this voyeroceptive while we still got the chance.
- 3:53[UNKNOWN]: The X-Men beaten it's hard to believe after all this was supposed to be a vacation, a chance for them to wind down from the grind of the last few months.
- 4:01[UNKNOWN]: Only it hasn't quite worked out that way, Sean Cassidy, Banshee, weelder of the Sonic Scream, had inherited an ancestral castle.
- 4:09[UNKNOWN]: It seemed like the perfect place to stay.
- 4:11[UNKNOWN]: Too late, the X-Men learned they'd walked into a trap.
- 4:13[UNKNOWN]: Their foes, Banshee's villainous cousin, Black Tom, Cassidy, and Kay Marco, the Juggernaut, one of the team's oldest foes.
- 4:20[UNKNOWN]: Suddenly, without warning, Storm crumbles into a psychotic panic.
- 4:24[UNKNOWN]: Because unknown to her teammates, she is a claustrophobic.
- 4:27[UNKNOWN]: terrified since childhood of enclosed spaces.
- 4:30[UNKNOWN]: The chamber buried deep beneath the castle has heightened those nightmare fears to an irresistible degree.
- 4:35[UNKNOWN]: Deprived of Storm's elemental powers, the others do their best, but Juggernaut is precisely what his name implies, the man who cannot be stopped.
- 4:44[UNKNOWN]: The X-Men tried their best, if it wasn't enough, Triumphant Juggernaut holds up the unconscious forms of Storm and Banshee into the air.
- 4:51[UNKNOWN]: The only one left two matters is their leader.
- 4:54[UNKNOWN]: My assertive stepbrother Charles Xavier, he shares a constant telepathic rapport with his students.
- 5:00[UNKNOWN]: If their hurt, he feels it, hurt him bad, and he'll come to us, and to his death as meek and defenseless as a land of the slaughter.
- 5:08[UNKNOWN]: Meanwhile, nearby, night crawlers in the hands of some leprechauns, two of them are named Kelsen and Donald, another is Patrick.
- 5:15[UNKNOWN]: don't know the fellas waking up.
- 5:16[UNKNOWN]: What do we do?
- 5:18[UNKNOWN]: I'm just silling it and we keep them quiet.
- 5:21[UNKNOWN]: Maybe start yelling we're lost.
- 5:26[UNKNOWN]: Ah, but that's easier said than done, Donald O'Brady.
- 5:29[UNKNOWN]: Ooh, what the hell is free?!
- 5:32[UNKNOWN]: Oh, hold on, Wolverine!
- 5:34[UNKNOWN]: I... Wolverine!
- 5:35[UNKNOWN]: There are you... Oh, where am I?
- 5:38[UNKNOWN]: And what is people?
- 5:40[UNKNOWN]: You're a little...
- 5:41[UNKNOWN]: Enjoy yourself, pointed like mine.
- 5:43[UNKNOWN]: I am dreaming because that would mean that you're... You're... No.
- 5:47[UNKNOWN]: That's some...
- 5:47[UNKNOWN]: Possible, it's not general leprechaops, fantastic, I'm talking to you, oh wait until I tell my friends, oh my god, my friends, the battle, what's happened to them?
- 5:59[UNKNOWN]: They've been captured my caller, by Black's mom and Joggernaut.
- 6:02[UNKNOWN]: Oh, it's Emino Donald, my friend, the cynical of Cassidy Keep, and so Black Tom King, the man who kept the family safe, my mom.
- 6:09[UNKNOWN]: You see, your friends are in the deadly danger, shit, but so annoying.
- 6:13[UNKNOWN]: It began about a month ago when Black
- 6:18[UNKNOWN]: Thank you.
- 6:18[UNKNOWN]: Thank you so much for being here.
- 6:30[UNKNOWN]: He brought Jugonautin with him.
- 6:31[UNKNOWN]: You can guess what happened next.
- 6:33[UNKNOWN]: That first night, they took most of the family's prisoner and held their allies hostage against it and I get it to hate her.
- 6:37[UNKNOWN]: And not just for himself alone, Neon, he took orders from its all man and red armor and a horned helmet.
- 6:42[UNKNOWN]: I tried to get an horn and now through the lawyer for her tea, but he must understood they could have told him was after this fast of bungee's inheritance.
- 6:49[UNKNOWN]: Never realizing that what time went to, must find she's lives, all your lives.
- 6:53[UNKNOWN]: First, he took me lucky charms, and now he's after your lives.
- 6:58[UNKNOWN]: Images show us the two supervillains scattering and then imprisoning civilians and then meeting with the evil Eric the Red who sits in the shadows.
- 7:06[UNKNOWN]: A man with a Viking sounding name, I think I know who you mean, Eric the Red again.
- 7:11[UNKNOWN]: But who is he?
- 7:12[UNKNOWN]: Why does he wish the X-Men did?
- 7:14[UNKNOWN]: But fussings first, we need a plan to rescue my friends.
- 7:18[UNKNOWN]: I'm all my night crawler.
- 7:19[UNKNOWN]: We've been wondering, when we found you, the party that lay in shadow disappeared, how'd you do that?
- 7:24[UNKNOWN]: You must be mistaken, I come to anything like that.
- 7:27[UNKNOWN]: Don't tell me, Boyle!
- 7:28[UNKNOWN]: I saw it!
- 7:29[UNKNOWN]: What a fact!
- 7:30[UNKNOWN]: Your face is always in shadow!
- 7:31[UNKNOWN]: That I knew!
- 7:32[UNKNOWN]: But, this other thing, still, it shouldn't be hard to check!
- 7:35[UNKNOWN]: I would just stick my hand into this shadow!
- 7:38[UNKNOWN]: And, wow!
- 7:39[UNKNOWN]: This is incredible!
- 7:40[UNKNOWN]: My hand!
- 7:41[UNKNOWN]: It, it was invisible!
- 7:42[UNKNOWN]: I've got to try it with my whole body!
- 7:44[UNKNOWN]: Amen!
- 7:45[UNKNOWN]: Can you see me?
- 7:46[UNKNOWN]: Our hero walks into the shadow.
- 7:47[UNKNOWN]: God except for glowing eyes.
- 7:50[UNKNOWN]: Amen reaches his hand forward.
- 7:51[UNKNOWN]: Only your eyes.
- 7:52[UNKNOWN]: I can feel you, though.
- 7:54[UNKNOWN]: So I guess they're still there.
- 7:55[UNKNOWN]: Lord, this is sneaky.
- 7:57[UNKNOWN]: But then, a blonde boy runs in.
- 7:59[UNKNOWN]: He's planning to torture them.
- 8:04[UNKNOWN]: What?
- 8:04[UNKNOWN]: Metcrawler steps out of the shadows, scaring the leprechaun boy half-to-death.
- 8:08[UNKNOWN]: Lord and Lady preserve me.
- 8:10[UNKNOWN]: To-laboratory!
- 8:10[UNKNOWN]: That is it!
- 8:11[UNKNOWN]: Quickly, man, show me today!
- 8:13[UNKNOWN]: Follow me, Knightfather.
- 8:14[UNKNOWN]: I'll have you there on the old time at all.
- 8:15[UNKNOWN]: I'll only pray for not too late.
- 8:17[UNKNOWN]: To my Irish listeners, I'm deeply sorry for the very offensive content we are putting out for all of you today.
- 8:24[UNKNOWN]: You're not Emino Dottle for the good Matt does you.
- 8:26[UNKNOWN]: They soon find Black Tom wearing a metal glove and Juggernaut placing the X-Men in machines to restrain them.
- 8:32[UNKNOWN]: His hands are shackled to the wall, and Banshee has on a metal gag, Wolverine's feet in hands are restrained, as are his waist and shoulders, and storm strapped into a weird metal dentist device while Colossus hangs in the air suspended in magnetic energy.
- 8:47[UNKNOWN]: I want you to know, they just had this whole tortured dungeon ready to go.
- 8:50[UNKNOWN]: This is a kid some kinky shit.
- 8:52[UNKNOWN]: Well, I can about a later.
- 8:53[UNKNOWN]: Tom straps on a metal glove with which to activate the torture devices.
- 8:57[UNKNOWN]: Oh, my saints.
- 8:59[UNKNOWN]: Amen.
- 8:59[UNKNOWN]: My friends.
- 9:00[UNKNOWN]: I love I feel the same way because my friends, the lepocone families are being held in the dungeons behind the lab.
- 9:05[UNKNOWN]: Pam, yourself, juggernaut, what doesn't matter that night crawler escape, alone you can do this no harm, and the other excements powers are neutralized.
- 9:13[UNKNOWN]: They're helpless.
- 9:14[UNKNOWN]: Once I've activated my newronic, hand-gler gloves, we can begin our work here in earnest.
- 9:20[UNKNOWN]: We don't need your fancy gloves, homes.
- 9:21[UNKNOWN]: If you want my separate, there's people's hurt.
- 9:23[UNKNOWN]: Jurgernaut has the power to do that and more.
- 9:25[UNKNOWN]: No, okay, this is one instance where brute force isn't the answer.
- 9:29[UNKNOWN]: You see my friend, there's a limit to the amount of physical force a body can stand.
- 9:34[UNKNOWN]: Your way would probably kill these X-Men long before they've served their purpose.
- 9:38[UNKNOWN]: But my way ravages the mind, yet leaves the body on damaged, exquisite, never-ending agony.
- 9:46[UNKNOWN]: It's safe here, we'll do anything to spare his pupils that kind of pain, he'll even let us.
- 9:52[UNKNOWN]: And as Tom's glove emits red energy, he reaches for Storm's neck and ocean westward at a New York Hospital, Professor X cries out in pain.
- 10:01[UNKNOWN]: Storm, she's an agony, resisting the pain, but I, I cannot, my control over my mental powers.
- 10:09[UNKNOWN]: A shadow of its normal self can't mute the rough poor with my X-Men, Moira.
- 10:15[UNKNOWN]: Get Cyclops quickly, but even though Moira McTaggart stands just before him in a pink house dress, he sees her as a strange woman with feathered hair and an insectoid space suit.
- 10:26[UNKNOWN]: LaLondra's hand extends its the woman from his nightmares.
- 10:30[UNKNOWN]: Moira, no, dear heaven, get out of my mind to fend him.
- 10:34[UNKNOWN]: Why do you keep tormenting me?
- 10:36[UNKNOWN]: Leave me alone.
- 10:38[UNKNOWN]: And division fades.
- 10:39[UNKNOWN]: Charlie, it's Moira, have yourself mad.
- 10:42[UNKNOWN]: But do you see, are you screaming?
- 10:46[UNKNOWN]: A shape, a figure, alien.
- 10:48[UNKNOWN]: Armored so far away, yet coming ever closer.
- 10:52[UNKNOWN]: No matter how hard I try, I can never see its face.
- 10:56[UNKNOWN]: Oh Moira, I'm so afraid.
- 11:01[UNKNOWN]: Meanwhile, back at the castle, so it's the professor de vant, God gives me an idea.
- 11:07[UNKNOWN]: If it doesn't work, then I'm in send my buddy to a Xavier school for gifted young stas.
- 11:12[UNKNOWN]: Bam!
- 11:13[UNKNOWN]: Nitroler changes with his image inducer into Professor X, wearing a green jacket with an orange blanket in a wheelchair, and he appears before Xavier's stepbrother, Juggernaut.
- 11:24[UNKNOWN]: What's that hellish steak?
- 11:25[UNKNOWN]: And I was like fire and brimstone.
- 11:27[UNKNOWN]: Tom, he's here, Xavier's here.
- 11:29[UNKNOWN]: I understand you wish to see me jack enough.
- 11:32[UNKNOWN]: There was no need to threaten my students.
- 11:35[UNKNOWN]: All you had to do was ask.
- 11:37[UNKNOWN]: You've got it wrong.
- 11:38[UNKNOWN]: My dearly hated sub-rother.
- 11:40[UNKNOWN]: Because all Tom and I want from you is your life.
- 11:44[UNKNOWN]: I'm enduring night-crawler as groutil marks as Charles Xavier and some of you have to.
- 11:51[UNKNOWN]: But Professor X in air quotes moves out of the way and then stands up and then flips over Juggernaut like a circus acrobat in a wild image.
- 12:00[UNKNOWN]: I see.
- 12:01[UNKNOWN]: I hope you'll excuse me if I don't let you take it.
- 12:05[UNKNOWN]: Ah, Kane, you must be getting slow in your older age.
- 12:08[UNKNOWN]: Is that why you needed someone to help you ambush the X man this time?
- 12:13[UNKNOWN]: You're laughing at me.
- 12:15[UNKNOWN]: Of course, dear brother.
- 12:17[UNKNOWN]: There's so much of you to laugh at.
- 12:19[UNKNOWN]: And something's wrong here, but you said Saviour was a triple.
- 12:24[UNKNOWN]: So we're going to get a few words in this script like they did in the 70s that we wouldn't put in a comic book now.
- 12:29[UNKNOWN]: But we'll keep it off that took.
- 12:31[UNKNOWN]: And Xavier volts over some machines and then kicks black Tom in this stomach, but Tom is ready with his shellily and Xavier remains agile dodging the blast.
- 12:41[UNKNOWN]: And that's enough out of you!
- 12:42[UNKNOWN]: Consider this partial payment for what you did to Naked Crawler!
- 12:46[UNKNOWN]: Since you have such an affection for the goblin, Xavier, I'll be glad to last you the same way I did him.
- 12:53[UNKNOWN]: Wouldn't it be sticking to the wall?
- 12:55[UNKNOWN]: Which...
- 12:56[UNKNOWN]: means it isn't my stepbrother at all.
- 12:58[UNKNOWN]: Regardless of what he looks like, it's got to be the cursed futile blue-skinned freak.
- 13:03[UNKNOWN]: Juggernaut rushes forward, punching the wall.
- 13:05[UNKNOWN]: Scacao!
- 13:06[UNKNOWN]: The punch hits home with unimaginable force.
- 13:09[UNKNOWN]: It's shock waves hammering through the ancient granite that forms Cassidy Crag, shattering the rock, powdering it, slamming ever outward until... By all the gods, I can see the sky.
- 13:21[UNKNOWN]: A moment, that's all it takes as the traumatic claustrophobia that had held Storm Prisoner for more effectively than any of Black Tom's shackles falls away, wins come rushing into the building, the witch, what she doing, and all hell breaks loose.
- 13:41[UNKNOWN]: not all midget banshee's going nowhere.
- 13:43[UNKNOWN]: Again, another one of those words, the winds sweep up the heros, Wolverine shackles blowing off, but Juggernaut plucks banshee out of the winds and storm flies free turning circles in the air.
- 13:55[UNKNOWN]: Three, gods of the earth and air be praised.
- 13:58[UNKNOWN]: I am free!
- 14:00[UNKNOWN]: Anything you say, like, how about putting Petty on me down, huh?
- 14:03[UNKNOWN]: Hey, not like, oh, and almost on cue.
- 14:06[UNKNOWN]: Colossus and that crawler hit the ground below with a clunk of my head back.
- 14:11[UNKNOWN]: I tell you both, that broad's gone flaky.
- 14:13[UNKNOWN]: I mean, look at her.
- 14:14[UNKNOWN]: She's very happy Wolverine.
- 14:16[UNKNOWN]: But do not ever call her a broad again, shorty.
- 14:21[UNKNOWN]: Meanwhile, back in what's left of Black Tom's lab, the walls have indeed come tumbling down.
- 14:27[UNKNOWN]: The leprechaun stand amidst the rubble and they find an unconscious night crawler while Black Tom and Juggernaut, yeah, let each other.
- 14:34[UNKNOWN]: Oh, it's a couple's bad at bickering argument.
- 14:36[UNKNOWN]: That's sudden wind!
- 14:37[UNKNOWN]: It smashed everything!
- 14:38[UNKNOWN]: I think we got a way out!
- 14:40[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, you're bloody temper.
- 14:41[UNKNOWN]: If you haven't cut, listen to the wall like that.
- 14:44[UNKNOWN]: I know Tom, I'm sorry, but we still have Banshee.
- 14:47[UNKNOWN]: Let's go.
- 14:47[UNKNOWN]: You're not just a peeper, there's a lot of yeast.
- 14:50[UNKNOWN]: What is it, Cousin?
- 14:51[UNKNOWN]: Ademine?
- 14:51[UNKNOWN]: Oh, it's a free.
- 14:53[UNKNOWN]: That was Wolverine as Donald, just there.
- 14:56[UNKNOWN]: Listen, I'm going through so much right.
- 15:00[UNKNOWN]: I'm Canadian.
- 15:02[UNKNOWN]: I'm scared.
- 15:02[UNKNOWN]: I'm doing so well.
- 15:03[UNKNOWN]: I'm doing so much.
- 15:05[UNKNOWN]: I'm dizzy.
- 15:06[UNKNOWN]: I'm so dizzy.
- 15:09[UNKNOWN]: Oh, it's a friend.
- 15:11[UNKNOWN]: Ooh, what a were in her bound.
- 15:13[UNKNOWN]: She's providing, he's still alive.
- 15:15[UNKNOWN]: And on that hopeful note, Wolverine's hands are free, but he can't get his big metal boots off.
- 15:20[UNKNOWN]: Come on, Big fella.
- 15:21[UNKNOWN]: Get these boots off of me.
- 15:23[UNKNOWN]: He does no use Wolverine.
- 15:24[UNKNOWN]: They are made of metal, even I cannot break.
- 15:27[UNKNOWN]: May I help, gentlemen?
- 15:28[UNKNOWN]: You stored in locality.
- 15:30[UNKNOWN]: If Colossus can't break him, what do you think you can do?
- 15:33[UNKNOWN]: Storm releases the boot with a simple click.
- 15:36[UNKNOWN]: In my time, Wolverine finds the best luck pick in all kinds, but we'll talk about later after we've rescued our friends.
- 15:44[UNKNOWN]: And yep, this is the first time we've seen Storm help Wolverine undress.
- 15:48[UNKNOWN]: Black Tom leads juggernaut the unconscious banshee over his shoulder up a flight of stairs to the roof.
- 15:54[UNKNOWN]: The three X-Men are on the ground below.
- 15:56[UNKNOWN]: Alright, Kane, we've arrived through that door and we'll be out onto the castle's battlements.
- 16:02[UNKNOWN]: Why do we bring Vanshi up here, Tom?
- 16:04[UNKNOWN]: You're planning to throw him off?
- 16:05[UNKNOWN]: If it comes to that, but first, we're gonna try talking.
- 16:09[UNKNOWN]: Here, me, X-Men.
- 16:10[UNKNOWN]: We have Vanshi up here with us.
- 16:12[UNKNOWN]: If you want him back alive, you'll have to come up and get him.
- 16:15[UNKNOWN]: You have five minutes, my friends.
- 16:17[UNKNOWN]: So we start sending them down to you.
- 16:19[UNKNOWN]: A piece at a time.
- 16:21[UNKNOWN]: Vanshi wakes up, his mouth still gagged.
- 16:23[UNKNOWN]: That's juggernaut holds him over the wall,
- 16:27[UNKNOWN]: it's a trap.
- 16:28[UNKNOWN]: No kid lady, but as long as they got Iris prisoner, they're holding all the aces.
- 16:32[UNKNOWN]: What's the belt night crawler?
- 16:33[UNKNOWN]: We cannot just stand still and watch.
- 16:35[UNKNOWN]: Very well.
- 16:37[UNKNOWN]: If Black's harm wishes us to fight for Banshee's freedom, then fight we shall.
- 16:41[UNKNOWN]: As only the X men can.
- 16:44[UNKNOWN]: You dumb broad, come back here.
- 16:46[UNKNOWN]: You go charging up there alone.
- 16:47[UNKNOWN]: You're just going to get yourself killed for crying out loud, lady.
- 16:50[UNKNOWN]: I was supposed to
- 16:52[UNKNOWN]: Wolverine, I told you never to call storm a broad again and I meant it.
- 16:56[UNKNOWN]: Happy landings to Vottish.
- 16:59[UNKNOWN]: Lower register on me.
- 16:59[UNKNOWN]: Try it one more time.
- 17:00[UNKNOWN]: What?
- 17:01[UNKNOWN]: No, still didn't work.
- 17:03[UNKNOWN]: Hey, you got to give me one of those.
- 17:05[UNKNOWN]: You just got throwing out a plate.
- 17:07[UNKNOWN]: What do you want me to do?
- 17:08[UNKNOWN]: All right.
- 17:11[UNKNOWN]: Hey, yeah, I'll do it for you.
- 17:13[UNKNOWN]: All right.
- 17:13[UNKNOWN]: All right.
- 17:15[UNKNOWN]: Storm flies toward the turrets.
- 17:17[UNKNOWN]: Colossus grabs Wolverine and pitches him and then Colossus himself creates hand and footholds and climbs up the wall itself.
- 17:24[UNKNOWN]: It's a bitch though.
- 17:26[UNKNOWN]: There's no one left you throw me.
- 17:28[UNKNOWN]: I'm afraid I'll have to climb this wall at the heartbeat.
- 17:30[UNKNOWN]: Hardware is right.
- 17:32[UNKNOWN]: You steal skin to jump.
- 17:33[UNKNOWN]: His climb in the wall like that makes you a sitting duck a blind man couldn't miss.
- 17:38[UNKNOWN]: Yet deal with her armoured comrade Kane, storm is all mine.
- 17:42[UNKNOWN]: I could blast you with me on mutant power, which, who fights herself when half machines to do it for me.
- 17:49[UNKNOWN]: And as Storm reaches the upper levels, she has shocked when huge metal guns begin firing at her.
- 17:54[UNKNOWN]: And Jordan up begins throwing rocks at Colossus, causing the wall to start breaking apart.
- 17:58[UNKNOWN]: Come back and black to have had to plan all of this out.
- 18:01[UNKNOWN]: Could you imagine installing all of these like massive machine guns in this old castle?
- 18:06[UNKNOWN]: It's just crazy.
- 18:07[UNKNOWN]: He definitely did this over like a three day weekend or something.
- 18:11[UNKNOWN]: God's energy glass, there's built in the castle turrets opening fire at me.
- 18:15[UNKNOWN]: But where did they come from?
- 18:17[UNKNOWN]: Banshee mentioned nothing of such weaponry.
- 18:19[UNKNOWN]: And there are appearance and powers unlike any I have ever seen.
- 18:22[UNKNOWN]: But Black Tom wishes a test of strength.
- 18:24[UNKNOWN]: The mistress of wind shall not be found once eaten.
- 18:27[UNKNOWN]: And as the battle begins, the sky is clear with hardly a cloud to mask the stars.
- 18:32[UNKNOWN]: That quickly changes.
- 18:33[UNKNOWN]: A storm's efforts warp weather patterns for miles around.
- 18:37[UNKNOWN]: Do your worst, Bimbo, I'll laugh it off.
- 18:40[UNKNOWN]: Colossus is history and before tonight's done, it'll be your turn.
- 18:43[UNKNOWN]: I keep been on call names this episode.
- 18:46[UNKNOWN]: I feel about it from the real history.
- 18:49[UNKNOWN]: Goddess, the plasma beams come closer with every shot.
- 18:52[UNKNOWN]: If it hadn't been for my hours of training in the danger, when these beams were burning me to a crisp.
- 18:57[UNKNOWN]: What does it take to kill you mutant, far more than even you are capable of murderers?
- 19:03[UNKNOWN]: Peters and more trouble than he will admit.
- 19:05[UNKNOWN]: But I dare not stop to aid him until these blasters are silenced.
- 19:08[UNKNOWN]: A few minutes ago, this had been a calm clear night with hardly a cloud to mess the stars, but that's changed the fury of storms attack twists weather patterns for miles around, creating in an instant the worst Atlantic gale in living memory.
- 19:20[UNKNOWN]: What was this you stupid?
- 19:22[UNKNOWN]: You threw me so flame and hard I landed on the wrong side of a flame and castle.
- 19:26[UNKNOWN]: How do you expect me to get on the flight for a ride-out-out-out?
- 19:30[UNKNOWN]: I think I can help you there, Mr. Logan.
- 19:32[UNKNOWN]: Huh?
- 19:32[UNKNOWN]: The little blazes are you, Bob.
- 19:33[UNKNOWN]: And how do you know my name?
- 19:35[UNKNOWN]: Well, even called Patrick, right?
- 19:36[UNKNOWN]: Are we little people know a lot of things?
- 19:38[UNKNOWN]: No way, Bob.
- 19:39[UNKNOWN]: The Wolverine don't believe in leper times.
- 19:40[UNKNOWN]: I mean, it's such a saddest.
- 19:42[UNKNOWN]: Maybe leper constable, believe in talking.
- 19:43[UNKNOWN]: What are the Wolverines?
- 19:43[UNKNOWN]: Oh, you don't!
- 19:44[UNKNOWN]: No, you're coming with me, or no?
- 19:45[UNKNOWN]: And despite himself the irritable Canadian follows the small man, dressed in green as he runs through the rain, meanwhile Juggernaut is throwing rocks at storm while Tom is firing more energy blasters, banshees off to the side in restraints and night crawler, sneaks up right behind him in the shadows, breaking the ropes that bind banshees wrists with a snap, which leaves banshe free to unleash his own deadly weapon as he removes the muzzle over his mouth.
- 20:10[UNKNOWN]: Mister by she's fast, but the battle computers are beginning to compensate those soon have our hidden across far I'm that'll be the end of it.
- 20:19[UNKNOWN]: You'd cry a different time if I were ladies close and I'm not I understand watches you murder my friend I think you'll have a conference for showing me the way up.
- 20:27[UNKNOWN]: Oh, we've been spotted Tom the blue goblin's free banshee Stop him cane before
- 20:33[UNKNOWN]: They're like cousin, I'm loose here some at gag as well, and you'll not take me prisoner again.
- 20:37[UNKNOWN]: Bunchy, get your gun out!
- 20:39[UNKNOWN]: That's a worry, Nightcrawler.
- 20:40[UNKNOWN]: Don't get out, can't charge us if he's got no floor under him.
- 20:46[UNKNOWN]: If you think a powerful sonic scream, Banshee destroys the berry ground under juggernaut's feet, sending the behemoth plunging through to the ground to the floor below.
- 20:55[UNKNOWN]: Whump, hurts your sonic scream, Banshee.
- 20:58[UNKNOWN]: But you're a fool if you think a mere fog can stop me.
- 21:01[UNKNOWN]: All you've done is put off your desk and for the time it takes me to climb those stairs.
- 21:05[UNKNOWN]: Then you will not climb these stairs.
- 21:07[UNKNOWN]: Children up.
- 21:08[UNKNOWN]: You call the Colossus.
- 21:10[UNKNOWN]: Science, Dougie.
- 21:11[UNKNOWN]: It was a rematch anyway.
- 21:12[UNKNOWN]: What makes you think you blend in differently than our first battle?
- 21:16[UNKNOWN]: You just signed your death war in sex men.
- 21:18[UNKNOWN]: Wayne, come and fire you black Tom.
- 21:20[UNKNOWN]: Then she source at his evil cousin, as Tom grabs an axe off the wall.
- 21:24[UNKNOWN]: He swings at his banshee evades and his axe hits the ground with a crack.
- 21:29[UNKNOWN]: Banshee in turn grabs a sword off the wall.
- 21:31[UNKNOWN]: That's a spirit shun Cassidy.
- 21:34[UNKNOWN]: Play the hero and rush lightly into my track.
- 21:37[UNKNOWN]: I don't know, you don't cause it.
- 21:38[UNKNOWN]: I may be old, but I'm not stupid.
- 21:39[UNKNOWN]: And now I've a weapon of me own.
- 21:41[UNKNOWN]: Excellent.
- 21:42[UNKNOWN]: Zarmutten powers cancel each other out.
- 21:44[UNKNOWN]: It's only fitting that we have our final duel as warriors should.
- 21:48[UNKNOWN]: Man to man, blade to blade.
- 21:50[UNKNOWN]: Bad duel that can have, but one end in
- 21:53[UNKNOWN]: A slice from Tom's axe hits Manchee's shoulder in the background, Colossus punches Juggernaut into a wall, shram the distraction, allows Tom to break Manchee's very blade in half with a king, Tom pins Manchee against the wall and raises the axe ready to behead him seemingly.
- 22:11[UNKNOWN]: Juggernaut, any X-Men!
- 22:12[UNKNOWN]: Gotcha, you're concerned for your companions' touch and cousin, so typical of you, but so costly.
- 22:19[UNKNOWN]: Farewell, Banshee.
- 22:20[UNKNOWN]: I only won chance.
- 22:22[UNKNOWN]: Banshee Pivot's catching Tom in the abdomen with both feet and pitching him over the side of the castle into the seas below.
- 22:28[UNKNOWN]: Ah, you madman, what are you doing?
- 22:31[UNKNOWN]: You'll send us both over the edge.
- 22:32[UNKNOWN]: Now Tom, only wish I didn't have to end like this.
- 22:35[UNKNOWN]: In a panic, Juggernaut knocks the X-Men aside and jumps after his husband.
- 22:39[UNKNOWN]: I mean, friend.
- 22:41[UNKNOWN]: Out of my way, you costume clowns.
- 22:43[UNKNOWN]: Look out.
- 22:44[UNKNOWN]: He's.
- 22:48[UNKNOWN]: Hold on Tom, I'm coming.
- 22:50[UNKNOWN]: He was the only friend I ever had, X-Men, and so helped me if you killed him, I'll make you pay.
- 22:55[UNKNOWN]: In an instant, Juggernaut is gone, swallowed up by a force 12 surf, almost as if he had never been his life risked, perhaps lost in a desperate attempt to save his friend.
- 23:07[UNKNOWN]: Not a bad epitaph that.
- 23:09[UNKNOWN]: Wind and wave, sea and storm, hear my words, and be gone!
- 23:14[UNKNOWN]: Presto!
- 23:15[UNKNOWN]: They search all that day, but no trick.
- 23:18[UNKNOWN]: Can we just put Presto after every time storming at the end of the album?
- 23:27[UNKNOWN]: They search all that day, but no trace of their foes' bodies has ever found.
- 23:30[UNKNOWN]: For the moment, it seems the battle is over, and all is once more well in the world.
- 23:35[UNKNOWN]: For the moment, but as the sun shines over Cassidy Keep, Eric Thorett is watching from afar.
- 23:40[UNKNOWN]: Watching three screens, one shows the X-Men at the castle, one shows the angry face of the evil Emperor De Ken, and the third shows a long, absent supervillain.
- 23:51[UNKNOWN]: De Ken speaks.
- 23:52[UNKNOWN]: I will book no more failures.
- 23:54[UNKNOWN]: Is that how the student princess Daramani is due to reach earth in a matter of weeks?
- 23:59[UNKNOWN]: Whatever happens after that, she must not contact the X man.
- 24:04[UNKNOWN]: And Eric the Red responds.
- 24:05[UNKNOWN]: She will not my leaves.
- 24:08[UNKNOWN]: And you have my word on it.
- 24:09[UNKNOWN]: I know I have an ally worthy of my name.
- 24:11[UNKNOWN]: The X man's oldest deadliest foe.
- 24:14[UNKNOWN]: Xavier has students will be dead before they even realize their
- 24:17[UNKNOWN]: under attack.
- 24:18[UNKNOWN]: And next issue, the gentleman's name is Magneto, enough said.
- 24:23[UNKNOWN]: Magneto is back next time.
- 24:26[UNKNOWN]: This was a ridiculously silly script read, obviously.
- 24:29[UNKNOWN]: Now for those of you that are going to join for the trial of Black Tom Cassidy at the end of the month, I have a long write up about the movie, the Disney film, Darby O'Gill, and the Little People.
- 24:39[UNKNOWN]: Has anyone in the room ever seen that film?
- 24:42[UNKNOWN]: No.
- 24:42[UNKNOWN]: It's wrong.
- 24:44[UNKNOWN]: No, but my friend Chad highly recommend it.
- 24:46[UNKNOWN]: Oh, I don't.
- 24:47[UNKNOWN]: It is from the 1950s and it is an Irish story about an old drunk man who tries to catch a leprechaun and he ends up trapped in their land and there's all these hijinks and antics as he like gets away.
- 25:00[UNKNOWN]: There's a literal banshee figure trying to woo a girl and there's a literal like evil cousin trying to like take over the estate.
- 25:07[UNKNOWN]: Clearly, I haven't read a Chris Claremont thing, but clearly this take is based off of that down to the leprechauns in the family estate.
- 25:15[UNKNOWN]: Truly nuts, go watch some clips on YouTube.
- 25:17[UNKNOWN]: It's like an acid trip.
- 25:18[UNKNOWN]: So let's start with the leprechauns.
- 25:20[UNKNOWN]: This is one of the stupidest, most ridiculous plotlines in X-Men history.
- 25:23[UNKNOWN]: I think leprechauns.
- 25:25[UNKNOWN]: Hi, I think the representation of leprechauns in Chris Claremont's next plan is so offensive.
- 25:31[UNKNOWN]: I love it.
- 25:32[UNKNOWN]: It is amazing.
- 25:34[UNKNOWN]: I also think is really interesting to me that like Black Tom has taken over this castle.
- 25:38[UNKNOWN]: It's been running the wrist.
- 25:39[UNKNOWN]: The leprechauns are doing everything they can to fuck with them.
- 25:43[UNKNOWN]: They're like, we don't like this sassy bossy bitch bottom that is broken into and stolen our castle.
- 25:49[UNKNOWN]: He needs to get gone.
- 25:51[UNKNOWN]: And I respect that.
- 25:52[UNKNOWN]: Little guys who get stuff done.
- 25:53[UNKNOWN]: The leprechauns are all transmen.
- 25:54[UNKNOWN]: Are we taking a little further questions?
- 25:57[UNKNOWN]: Well, that makes me like the more I think it's very much giving Cinderella's mice in the castle where they like kind of run around and they help like they're probably going to make a dress for Wolverine at some point we know that's happening.
- 26:10[UNKNOWN]: Maybe they're the ones that had to clean up swarms like weather mess in her room when she like yes, I'm in the showers inside they like clean up all the houses they're like the elves in the shoemaker like little guys.
- 26:22[UNKNOWN]: Let's hear from Kenny and then Robin, what are your thoughts on this pair and their untimely end here?
- 26:27[UNKNOWN]: And also their evil torture dungeon that they built into the house.
- 26:30[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, and that just happened to be there that I'm sure they've never used before.
- 26:35[UNKNOWN]: They're so bad for each other, they're good.
- 26:38[UNKNOWN]: They truly deserve one another, and I just love them so much.
- 26:44[UNKNOWN]: See, I think it's interesting you see that, Kenny, because as we were going through this script, I'm just listening to it.
- 26:49[UNKNOWN]: And I'm like, Bucca not clearly feels so much affection for his boyfriend.
- 26:53[UNKNOWN]: He's like, anytime something happens to Black Tom, he's like, no, Tom, and anytime something happened, Jocca not, Black Tom just goes, however, like, come on, come a little bit of affection for your boyfriend.
- 27:06[UNKNOWN]: He moved on.
- 27:07[UNKNOWN]: He moved on.
- 27:07[UNKNOWN]: He moved on.
- 27:08[UNKNOWN]: Jocca not is sort of like, like a puppy that you've adopted,
- 27:14[UNKNOWN]: Yes, you still like a kick like you can tell that like his old owners would like pick him and it was horrible to him, but he's so so desperate for love and affection that they would It's just you can tell there's like a really sad history there and it's that you can't help but like have your heart break for him.
- 27:30[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, Robin, what does a neuronic tangler glove do?
- 27:34[UNKNOWN]: I think it is the up-rated just in glove the black Tommy is his
- 27:39[UNKNOWN]: Obviously.
- 27:40[UNKNOWN]: Yes, they have a whole, again, all of these, like, electronic components in the castle are really jarring.
- 27:45[UNKNOWN]: Now, not a ton of character development for a lot of people Wolverine gets the silly, like, bugs, buddy, Daffy duck kind of thing.
- 27:52[UNKNOWN]: He's getting tossed around and thrown and, like, saying the wrong thing all of the time.
- 27:56[UNKNOWN]: He gets fucking his boots.
- 27:58[UNKNOWN]: He gets pitched across the, the tarmac once, like,
- 28:01[UNKNOWN]: This is a funny moment for Wolverine as the comic relief, balanced by Colossus, kind of standing up for Storm a little bit and kind of being the star player, and that crawler discovering his secret ability to blend into the shadows, like live and real time.
- 28:15[UNKNOWN]: I think the leprechauns were like, hey, did you notice this thing?
- 28:18[UNKNOWN]: Like, he's something
- 28:20[UNKNOWN]: I don't quite remember Wolverine disliking storm this much in this like he's was not kind of her at all But it was kind of wild seeing the juxtaposition of him in that space and then just kind of being the outside or on the team Not really being a team player at all, but it was it's wild his language back then
- 28:41[UNKNOWN]: Mr. Dovin.
- 28:42[UNKNOWN]: Oh yeah, Colossus continues his fine tradition of just being there and throwing things and then staying at first one.
- 28:48[UNKNOWN]: That's been his trend lately.
- 28:50[UNKNOWN]: Ed Kevin.
- 28:50[UNKNOWN]: So I wonder if the leprechauns represent Chris Claremont in this story, even though all his personalities, because they are kind of telling things like, hey, Logan, that's your name.
- 29:01[UNKNOWN]: Hey, Nikkroll, are you going this shadows?
- 29:04[UNKNOWN]: It's like, you're all the plot points.
- 29:05[UNKNOWN]: I wanted to get across, but I don't have time.
- 29:07[UNKNOWN]: So I'm just gonna make the leprechauns, tell you.
- 29:09[UNKNOWN]: the leprechaun's run the X-Men fandom page and they're just adding to the wiki's they definitely that feeling but and then we have Banshee here there are there is a queer read of the Black Tom Banshee relationship which is an interesting read but the white cousin the black cousin the good one the bad one right uh and then we get a literal like sword and axe fight complete with like muzzle and like rope bonds there's there's
- 29:36[UNKNOWN]: If you've ever heard either of these characters featured on Storybrill, you've heard some of that our goldsmith thoughts on the greatest of this relationship.
- 29:42[UNKNOWN]: And it is an interesting one to look at.
- 29:44[UNKNOWN]: But Sean gets his castle back at the end.
- 29:46[UNKNOWN]: Robin and I banter him back in force the whole time because she's just amazing at that.
- 29:52[UNKNOWN]: I love being bantery and it's fun being this old grizzled Irishman.
- 29:57[UNKNOWN]: It's just, it's I get to live my best life.
- 29:59[UNKNOWN]: Okay, now she's on the work part was keeping the banshee voice and the Patrick voice separate like like I can be Irish right that's one voice right storm has some really excellent development in this two issue are we got to see her back story last time we get reference her to her being a lock pick and Cairo this time she gets called brought a few times she gets called bimbo once but there's a really beautiful moment that almost passes you by if you're not taking a moment.
- 30:27[UNKNOWN]: pause.
- 30:27[UNKNOWN]: Storm, the sky gets opened up, and she flies free, and we have a black woman.
- 30:32[UNKNOWN]: In 1977, saying the phrase phrase, free, gods of the earth and air be praised, I am free.
- 30:39[UNKNOWN]: And God has that a beautiful moment for this character.
- 30:42[UNKNOWN]: For one thing with saying that line, I was thinking to myself, free at last, free at last, thank God on ID, I am free at last.
- 30:49[UNKNOWN]: And I don't need to make light of it because it's very much from a serious speech and beautiful speech.
- 30:54[UNKNOWN]: But it was funny to hear, I guess, because it almost feels stereotypical if I can say, but also it is beautiful for the time this is coming out.
- 31:03[UNKNOWN]: And so I do understand the power behind those words and seeing
- 31:07[UNKNOWN]: with this imagery of a black woman who is able to fly food eating after white men captured her in a castle.
- 31:13[UNKNOWN]: Maybe she's actually pleased to be free of all the Irish food that was being served at Castle Tasteman.
- 31:21[UNKNOWN]: She's happy to like probably, well, no, she because she gets called abroad like multiple times after, but let's say you have to not be called abroad anymore.
- 31:29[UNKNOWN]: But I think she'd be called a broad because, you know, women are beautiful.
- 31:33[UNKNOWN]: That's why they call it broad daylight.
- 31:34[UNKNOWN]: Um, but a demo that's fucking insane.
- 31:38[UNKNOWN]: There's a, there's a Bible verse that says Satan is a broad.
- 31:42[UNKNOWN]: And there was always a joke in the Mormon religion where people are like, did you hear the devil's a woman?
- 31:46[UNKNOWN]: Look, it says right here, Satan is a broad ridiculous.
- 31:52[UNKNOWN]: And then we have this slowly rising subplot of Charles Xavier and his visions of insect bird ladies.
- 31:59[UNKNOWN]: And we finally see to cut on the page, Eric the red has been heating up as like the background that threat and clear months run and things are finally going to hit fruition in the next couple of issues.
- 32:09[UNKNOWN]: Oh, I mean, the Xavier ammo is thrilled to be able to be Xavier, especially when there's an opportunity to sneak in one of those overwhelmed cries from the animated
- 32:20[UNKNOWN]: Paul Payne gets too high.
- 32:21[UNKNOWN]: You get a, because that's just, it's just fun.
- 32:24[UNKNOWN]: You know, hurt the people's eardrums.
- 32:26[UNKNOWN]: I think it also is, it's interesting.
- 32:29[UNKNOWN]: The layers of details that you get from Black Tom and how he's attacking through the students, the depth of this psychic rapport that Xavier has.
- 32:39[UNKNOWN]: Even, I think it was last issue that he's almost
- 32:42[UNKNOWN]: Breaking that rapport with cyclops the way that he's ordering him around and talking down on him.
- 32:46[UNKNOWN]: It's like he's so connected.
- 32:48[UNKNOWN]: He feels so much but he's got so much pressure with everything like he's weakened.
- 32:52[UNKNOWN]: That this is destroying him.
- 32:54[UNKNOWN]: Something that it seems like was barely affecting storm in the moment.
- 32:57[UNKNOWN]: So I don't usually get the chance to be a whole lot of villains because I'm too goofy and kind of upbeat so it's it's hard to do that my main one is I do this sort of a manic version of the ridler more than anything else, but there's always that new wants to a villain, but Dick hen is one of those guys who's just like no I'm here to burn the entire universe and.
- 33:18[UNKNOWN]: Fuck you, if you live there.
- 33:20[UNKNOWN]: So I was trying to think of like, what's the most big bombastic way I could portray that?
- 33:24[UNKNOWN]: I thought, you know what?
- 33:25[UNKNOWN]: Brian Blessed.
- 33:26[UNKNOWN]: So the DeKen voice is based on Brian Blessed.
- 33:29[UNKNOWN]: How do I do, by the way?
- 33:30[UNKNOWN]: It was excellent.
- 33:31[UNKNOWN]: And Andre, I was hoping for you in full Eric the Red Cause play, but what was the likelihood of voicing this guy?
- 33:37[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, no midriffed out for me tonight.
- 33:42[UNKNOWN]: Well, I didn't know what he sounded like outside of like whatever his appearance was in the original animated series.
- 33:49[UNKNOWN]: So like trying to get into what he would sound like on paper in the comics was a little different because I was thinking about like how he can be a little kind of whiny in his voice because he's like a lackey for it again.
- 34:03[UNKNOWN]: So I wanted to kind of approach it that way.
- 34:05[UNKNOWN]: Okay, last thing I wanna call out before we wrap up our conversation here is my favorite moment in this script, which is Nightcrawler using his image inducer to pose as Charles Xavier, just to piss off juggernaut and him doing flips around the room with as like bald Xavier isn't delightful.
- 34:21[UNKNOWN]: We can have it really a job, my friend.
- 34:23[UNKNOWN]: And also to piss off Justin with a terrible, terrible visor axe, the life of the whole thing.
- 34:30[UNKNOWN]: It's me, Charles Xavier, see?
- 34:31[UNKNOWN]: Ha!
- 34:33[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, yeah, she was more skeletal, or I think anything.
- 34:38[UNKNOWN]: All right, everybody.
- 34:39[UNKNOWN]: We're now going to introduce classic X-Men number 10.
- 34:42[UNKNOWN]: This is actually a second recording that I'm going to put in with the other, but we have Sean Rodney here now to play Wolverine, hooray, and Haram Scaram is back to play all of the other parts.
- 34:51[UNKNOWN]: And we're just going to lay in here.
- 34:53[UNKNOWN]: It's not everything that's joining in.
- 34:56[UNKNOWN]: So we're going to jump right in.
- 34:57[UNKNOWN]: All right.
- 34:58[UNKNOWN]: I'm Aaron Stero.
- 34:59[UNKNOWN]: And I guess I'll explain every other part than will the reading.
- 35:02[UNKNOWN]: Including Saber to, I don't know how that's going to sound.
- 35:05[UNKNOWN]: So I'm good for all of us.
- 35:07[UNKNOWN]: I'm hoping your Irish accent comes back.
- 35:09[UNKNOWN]: That's all I'm saying.
- 35:12[UNKNOWN]: I'm Sean Rouhani and I will be playing Wolverine.
- 35:15[UNKNOWN]: This story is called Tag Sucker, lead us in Sean.
- 35:19[UNKNOWN]: I'm Wolverine, loner by nature, hunter by trade.
- 35:22[UNKNOWN]: But I've joined the X-Men now and since New York is their home turf, I've come to make it my own.
- 35:27[UNKNOWN]: Don't much like cities too big, too crowded, too flaming noisy, I prefer wild country.
- 35:33[UNKNOWN]: been at it the better part of a week wandering Manhattan and the outer burrows.
- 35:38[UNKNOWN]: Sizing up the city and its people.
- 35:40[UNKNOWN]: This is Times Square called the flashy trash heart of the big apple.
- 35:44[UNKNOWN]: Some apple.
- 35:45[UNKNOWN]: Some heart.
- 35:47[UNKNOWN]: This story is from June 1987 by Chris Claremont, art by John Bolton, colors by Glinnis Oliver, letters by Tom Orzikowski, and our editors are
- 36:02[UNKNOWN]: Wolverine and a brown cowboy hat, brown pants and mahogany furline jacket walks through the neon streets of New York City.
- 36:08[UNKNOWN]: He passes several adult video stores, strip clubs, passing strangers along the way.
- 36:13[UNKNOWN]: One theater advertises Marida, the She-Wolf, a character that Chris Claremma and John Bolton created an epic illustrated number 10 in 1981.
- 36:22[UNKNOWN]: She has five appearances across Marvel history.
- 36:25[UNKNOWN]: He also passes the Phoenix Theatre, a pioneering space off of Broadway that was established in the real world in 1953, in a building that had been constructed in 1926.
- 36:35[UNKNOWN]: It shut down in 1982.
- 36:37[UNKNOWN]: So right around the time this story came out.
- 36:40[UNKNOWN]: I'm minding my own business, not expect in trouble, first mistake.
- 36:44[UNKNOWN]: Wolverine tries to light a cigarette and someone swipes it right out of his mouth.
- 37:02[UNKNOWN]: A voice rings in Logan's ear, but it's gone before he can spin around.
- 37:07[UNKNOWN]: Behind me, nothing.
- 37:08[UNKNOWN]: I heard the laugh the guy was close enough to touch.
- 37:11[UNKNOWN]: I was alert.
- 37:11[UNKNOWN]: Why didn't my senses warn me?
- 37:13[UNKNOWN]: What the blazes is going on?
- 37:15[UNKNOWN]: Too open here.
- 37:16[UNKNOWN]: Too many people without a scent to lock in on.
- 37:19[UNKNOWN]: My guy could be any of them.
- 37:20[UNKNOWN]: Maybe even be part of a team.
- 37:22[UNKNOWN]: Creep wants to play?
- 37:23[UNKNOWN]: I'll oblige him with a game he'll never forget.
- 37:27[UNKNOWN]: And suddenly Wolverine runs into traffic, climbs on top of the cab, then jumps to a high ladder, climbing up to the fire escape.
- 37:34[UNKNOWN]: These moves are second nature.
- 37:35[UNKNOWN]: Not so long ago, I used to be a secret agent.
- 37:38[UNKNOWN]: Did most of my work in Siberia, and the Western Pacific, I was the best.
- 37:43[UNKNOWN]: Haven't lost my touch.
- 37:44[UNKNOWN]: I'm not trying to lose any pursuit.
- 37:46[UNKNOWN]: I want him after me, but on my terms.
- 37:49[UNKNOWN]: The idea is to take this scrap somewhere we can finish it in private, but my trail stays clear.
- 37:56[UNKNOWN]: And soon, at the West Side Saloon.
- 37:59[UNKNOWN]: Chelsea, old rough-edged neighborhood.
- 38:02[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, it's expensive as hell now.
- 38:04[UNKNOWN]: Sorry.
- 38:05[UNKNOWN]: gentrification.
- 38:08[UNKNOWN]: Oh, bit.
- 38:09[UNKNOWN]: Old rough-edged neighborhood.
- 38:11[UNKNOWN]: Turnin' young and fancy as the gentry movein'.
- 38:14[UNKNOWN]: Buildings are being re-adol over.
- 38:16[UNKNOWN]: Stores that have been here generations are changing hands.
- 38:19[UNKNOWN]: Selling out turnin' trendy.
- 38:21[UNKNOWN]: Boozers as old and downscale.
- 38:24[UNKNOWN]: And comfortably, friendly, as this won't last much longer, to be bad, and crowded, nobody's a threat find a corner, sit with back to the walls, face in the room with a view of all of the exits, clear field of action, and a way out if I need it.
- 38:39[UNKNOWN]: Old habits, trust no one, take no chances.
- 38:42[UNKNOWN]: That's how you survive.
- 38:43[UNKNOWN]: The bartender, a man of color, dressed all in white, approaches with a glass and a pitcher.
- 38:48[UNKNOWN]: You welcome the trouble fellow.
- 38:49[UNKNOWN]: Nope, just being careful is all.
- 38:51[UNKNOWN]: Thanks to be careful.
- 38:52[UNKNOWN]: He's more to be considered.
- 38:54[UNKNOWN]: It can't be a friend, take it outside.
- 38:55[UNKNOWN]: I make the man nervous.
- 38:57[UNKNOWN]: I make everyone nervous.
- 38:58[UNKNOWN]: I like normal folks.
- 39:00[UNKNOWN]: Words for my kind is word for my kind is mutant.
- 39:03[UNKNOWN]: Almost sapiens superior.
- 39:06[UNKNOWN]: Next step I'm told in humanities evolution.
- 39:09[UNKNOWN]: Big flame and deal.
- 39:10[UNKNOWN]: In my case, that means my physical senses are unimaginably keen.
- 39:15[UNKNOWN]: I live by him.
- 39:15[UNKNOWN]: Others die because of what they tell me.
- 39:18[UNKNOWN]: What I see, what I hear, what I smell, what I touch and taste and feel.
- 39:23[UNKNOWN]: My senses and my instincts, they define my reality.
- 39:27[UNKNOWN]: We're gonna pause while shun get the laws in.
- 39:32[UNKNOWN]: As Wolverine exits the bar, his senses hone in on everything happening, a match lighting with the sound puff, a pull cue on chalk sketchy sketch, the eight ball getting hit with the with the cue ball,
- 39:58[UNKNOWN]: I never stop looking at everyone, everything, not even the chute ball.
- 40:02[UNKNOWN]: I have a lost man.
- 40:08[UNKNOWN]: I haven't lost my challenger.
- 40:09[UNKNOWN]: He's outside, waiting and watching, just like me.
- 40:13[UNKNOWN]: He'll make his move in his own good time.
- 40:15[UNKNOWN]: I finish my whiskey in a while.
- 40:17[UNKNOWN]: I'll have another aspect of my power.
- 40:20[UNKNOWN]: Is my healing factor.
- 40:22[UNKNOWN]: My body repairs itself, counters any poison.
- 40:28[UNKNOWN]: In the window I saw a smile the reflection of a pair of evil incisors catches Wolverines Eye in the window he bursts up from the table knocking his beer over he runs outside the door slamming behind him with a crash
- 40:43[UNKNOWN]: Gone, again, but where, how so fast?
- 40:47[UNKNOWN]: Eight possible for a body to cut for his sense so completely, unless he don't exist.
- 40:52[UNKNOWN]: My head, play in games, or somebody with mental powers, or some gizmo playing games with me.
- 40:58[UNKNOWN]: Bedrock at the base of my soul turns suddenly to ice, and that begins to crack.
- 41:03[UNKNOWN]: Wolverine gets a view of who he's actually seen in the window, a boxy blonde and a pink fur coat lined with white.
- 41:11[UNKNOWN]: She's got a short skirt and carries a purse, and to be fair, looks a little bit like Saber Tooth.
- 41:17[UNKNOWN]: It's giving a little Brienne of Tarth from the Game of Thrones vibes of this character.
- 41:21[UNKNOWN]: Her name is Francy.
- 41:23[UNKNOWN]: I thought you had some class cowboy, but you're better off home on the ring.
- 41:27[UNKNOWN]: Romance in the Buffalo.
- 41:28[UNKNOWN]: She's part right, this ain't home.
- 41:30[UNKNOWN]: Probably won't ever be too many flaming rules.
- 41:33[UNKNOWN]: Chulkin my soul like these buildings eat up the sky.
- 41:36[UNKNOWN]: I want to run to how.
- 41:38[UNKNOWN]: I want you so, oh, sorry.
- 41:41[UNKNOWN]: There you jump on my line.
- 41:44[UNKNOWN]: Just give me your halto hunt again.
- 41:46[UNKNOWN]: Okay, to how to hunt.
- 41:48[UNKNOWN]: I warned you, Bella.
- 41:50[UNKNOWN]: You said, take it outside.
- 41:51[UNKNOWN]: Just be in neighborly.
- 41:53[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, right.
- 41:53[UNKNOWN]: I've on a clean place.
- 41:55[UNKNOWN]: No trouble.
- 41:56[UNKNOWN]: No grieve.
- 41:57[UNKNOWN]: Go somewhere else.
- 41:58[UNKNOWN]: What?
- 41:58[UNKNOWN]: And then a scream.
- 42:00[UNKNOWN]: You got to do a lower run today.
- 42:03[UNKNOWN]: like a like a has to be a toe and I could pick up nothing it truly I can't keep them sound so do it do it but just maintain one note like you're singing oh like just you one sound
- 42:26[UNKNOWN]: girl.
- 42:27[UNKNOWN]: She screams like an opera singer.
- 42:31[UNKNOWN]: We run into this problem with Sean whenever he does Ben.
- 42:34[UNKNOWN]: She's voice.
- 42:36[UNKNOWN]: Anyway, there's a scream.
- 42:37[UNKNOWN]: Go ahead, Wolverine.
- 42:39[UNKNOWN]: The girl, I know what will find.
- 42:41[UNKNOWN]: I've heard that kind of scream before.
- 42:43[UNKNOWN]: Oh, it's me.
- 42:48[UNKNOWN]: Login in the bartender around the corner, and fine, francy dead, gutted.
- 42:54[UNKNOWN]: Oh, my, more francy!
- 42:56[UNKNOWN]: After whisperin on the wind, telling me I'm next, again, the animals urged to flee, instinct, not thought, make tracks, find shelter, go to ground this time.
- 43:07[UNKNOWN]: I don't resist beneath the grating's a ladder.
- 43:10[UNKNOWN]: Emergency exit from the subway.
- 43:12[UNKNOWN]: None of the growing crowd notices me slip away.
- 43:15[UNKNOWN]: There's a maintenance walkway running along the tunnel.
- 43:17[UNKNOWN]: I can use that to reach the next station easier to take the train.
- 43:21[UNKNOWN]: How's your voice doing, Sean?
- 43:23[UNKNOWN]: I'm good.
- 43:23[UNKNOWN]: I'm good.
- 43:26[UNKNOWN]: Wolverine climbs down a ladder into the tunnels where he leaps onto the side of the moving subway car, losing his hat.
- 43:32[UNKNOWN]: Plack at a clock at a clock at a clock at a. I don't stop moving from subway to street and back again.
- 43:37[UNKNOWN]: Always looking over my shoulder.
- 43:38[UNKNOWN]: Always seeing nothing.
- 43:40[UNKNOWN]: Grift by feelings too strong to be denied.
- 43:42[UNKNOWN]: I'm playing this wrong.
- 43:44[UNKNOWN]: I know, let in my hunter call the shots, dancing to his tune, but I can't help myself.
- 43:49[UNKNOWN]: My combat skills, knowing how to fight and when and where.
- 43:53[UNKNOWN]: They're all things I've learned, as opposed to what I know, deep in my bones.
- 43:58[UNKNOWN]: They bind me to the world that built this city, and made me less than my birthright, that laughed away the woman was killed.
- 44:04[UNKNOWN]: This whole game of tag strikes a chord in my memory when I wish I could forget, and sends a thrill of pure terror through my heart at battery park with my back to the sea.
- 44:19[UNKNOWN]: I show my claws at a mantium, the strongest metal known, bionically implanted into my forearms.
- 44:26[UNKNOWN]: My skeletons laced with the same stuff making it virtually unbreakable and me some high-tech sci-fi piece of work.
- 44:34[UNKNOWN]: Snick Snack Wolverine stands as ground waiting in full costume Wolverine weapon XX man hunter become the hunted killer about to be killed I was trained by the best to be the best my knowledge and skills honed by a lifetime's experience but I ignore all that I cast the rationality away and let the animal loose I trust my senses they play me false
- 44:59[UNKNOWN]: A hand grabs Wolverine around the neck and yanks him backward over a fence and into the river splash.
- 45:04[UNKNOWN]: Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
- 45:14[UNKNOWN]: An hour or so later, the Staten Island ferry cruises placidly toward its birth at St. George.
- 45:20[UNKNOWN]: To late, the pieces had fallen into place, savor to old Hades never die.
- 45:26[UNKNOWN]: Ours won't tonight, though he did his best.
- 45:28[UNKNOWN]: He tore out my throat, should've suffocated, led to death, drowned.
- 45:33[UNKNOWN]: But the body heals faster when it has to.
- 45:35[UNKNOWN]: I'm a mess, but I'll survive.
- 45:37[UNKNOWN]: Like always, we fought this way on his terms.
- 45:40[UNKNOWN]: I got lucky.
- 45:41[UNKNOWN]: He underestimated my healing factor.
- 45:44[UNKNOWN]: He won't make that mistake again.
- 45:45[UNKNOWN]: The bruiser, the Wolverine and me.
- 45:48[UNKNOWN]: That's no match for him.
- 45:49[UNKNOWN]: Only the man has a prayer to survive.
- 45:52[UNKNOWN]: I have to change to accept what I am and grow from it.
- 45:55[UNKNOWN]: I'm not sure I want to.
- 45:57[UNKNOWN]: I'm not sure I can.
- 45:58[UNKNOWN]: And as the story ends, we realized we'd never even really even saw Saber Tooth on panel.
- 46:04[UNKNOWN]: The back cover shows us Wolverine and civilian clothes, claws out, looking from a rooftop out toward New York City.
- 46:11[UNKNOWN]: That scripted gave me chills a little bit.
- 46:14[UNKNOWN]: That was so beautifully done, uh, Sean, and a pair of, so playfully thought, but I loved that very much.
- 46:20[UNKNOWN]: This is interesting.
- 46:20[UNKNOWN]: This is a mid-80s and Chris Claremont has just started doing solo Wolverine stories.
- 46:26[UNKNOWN]: Wolverine has gotten his limited series, which is very much if you've ever read or seen the show show gun like Wolverine and Japan Wolverine and Madre poor.
- 46:35[UNKNOWN]: There's a lot of this kind of lone warrior lone wolf.
- 46:39[UNKNOWN]: They're figuring out the tone for this character and then we get this very noir story, which almost feels like a Batman story to me in an interesting way.
- 46:47[UNKNOWN]: well you read my mind i definitely very much film noir felt like a badman story it's weird having you know a man of so few words have to do so much like exposition and narration and stuff but um yeah it's definitely a different tone than just classic expend comics and uh you know it's uh i i could definitely get into reading more of them it's a lot of fun
- 47:07[UNKNOWN]: Everybody listen to this one more time, just rewind a little bit, but this time picture Lego Batman first and then It's a very particular time.
- 47:19[UNKNOWN]: Look at it that way.
- 47:20[UNKNOWN]: Honestly, I think it's an interesting introspection into how Wolverine thinks how he's always kind of gone No matter where he is, he's always ready for the next fight wherever it's going to come from.
- 47:31[UNKNOWN]: And of course, it's with the guy that he will have forever be with.
- 47:34[UNKNOWN]: And I'm wondering if Sabertink's beef with Wolverine is like worse than the reverse Splash's beef with flash or Thanos's beef with that one single guy.
- 47:43[UNKNOWN]: They just want to answer on every year and first thing.
- 47:45[UNKNOWN]: But like I like this.
- 47:47[UNKNOWN]: This is interesting.
- 47:48[UNKNOWN]: I mean, it's very much the alpha dog trying to win top position, but I have to read these two as like ex-boyfriends and Saber-tooth just cannot get over him.
- 47:59[UNKNOWN]: I'm doing the trial of Saber-tooth everybody in September on Grimalk in Lade.
- 48:04[UNKNOWN]: We're going to have a whole Saber-tooth themed month.
- 48:06[UNKNOWN]: I have some excellent plans in place.
- 48:08[UNKNOWN]: That's the content I'm preparing as we're recording this in May.
- 48:11[UNKNOWN]: I'm really excited about it.
- 48:13[UNKNOWN]: It's going to be a lot of fun, but I have a lot to say about this
- 48:17[UNKNOWN]: All right, so Chad, let me ask you this.
- 48:19[UNKNOWN]: You do not ascribe to the whole saber to Wolverine brothers, but just not brothers kind of thing don't want to find.
- 48:26[UNKNOWN]: That they tried to push so we'll come up with it.
- 48:29[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, it's really interesting to me.
- 48:30[UNKNOWN]: You know, we just did the trial of the raw-hide kid on my show.
- 48:34[UNKNOWN]: It was like the gay cowboy.
- 48:35[UNKNOWN]: And there's this idea of this guy that's the sharp shooter, but he's dressed in the brightest colors and the tightest pants, and he's got a gun in each hand, and he's like really showing off.
- 48:44[UNKNOWN]: That's kind of how I read Saber II.
- 48:46[UNKNOWN]: Like he's awful.
- 48:47[UNKNOWN]: He's a serial killer.
- 48:48[UNKNOWN]: He's a terrible fucking person, but he's always dressed up a really fancy and firm tight pants, and he's always sitting next to Wolverine and I left you a birthday present.
- 48:57[UNKNOWN]: There's literally a scene in X-Men a couple of times where Wolverine and Saber-Tooth are like standing at urinals next to each other and Saber-Tooth's like, look it over and it's like, mine's bigger mum.
- 49:07[UNKNOWN]: Like, those are literal pieces of continuity.
- 49:11[UNKNOWN]: So I have a lot to say about Saber-Tooth.
- 49:13[UNKNOWN]: But RIP francy, that as a character, I would love to see Borough.
- 49:17[UNKNOWN]: So then back her fashion was so like, commentator though, you wouldn't have been a tiny doctor of being heard, quote with the white lining on the inside, honestly, give me your thoughts.
- 49:28[UNKNOWN]: Sean, are you a similar to the fan?
- 49:29[UNKNOWN]: I mean, it's hard to be a fan of such a despicable character, but like, you know, he's very effective in what he's designed to do what he was written to be, you know, just just in how much he riles up Wolverine and how, like, you know, I feel like nobody really gets the better of Wolverine.
- 49:48[UNKNOWN]: It's hard to get the better of someone who's basically immortal, but it seems like he always kind of gets the
- 49:55[UNKNOWN]: Like, you know, in sports, there's a statistic of how long per game, somebody's in the lead for regardless of whether they win or not.
- 50:03[UNKNOWN]: I feel like that statistic, saver tooth is winning way more than Wolverine, but Wolverine usually just wins the game at the end, you know?
- 50:10[UNKNOWN]: So yeah, he's tough.
- 50:13[UNKNOWN]: He's just a badass horrible super villain.
- 50:16[UNKNOWN]: And he looks unapologetically awesome.
- 50:19[UNKNOWN]: It's the, it's the two dogs theory of like witch dog wins the one you feed, right?
- 50:24[UNKNOWN]: So there's like the nice one on the mean one, and Wolverine is thinking in his brain like I have to, you know, fend off the berserker.
- 50:30[UNKNOWN]: It's the man side of me that's going to went out in this conflict, which is a man versus nature, but within the two of them consistently.
- 50:37[UNKNOWN]: Saber tooth does not have a lot of redeemable qualities, but there is the age of apocalypse where in the world where Xavier died, Saber tooth becomes the Wolverine of the X-Men.
- 50:46[UNKNOWN]: He's the hero version in that world.
- 50:48[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, it's a it's fun watching Wolverine like he's got such a dichotomy of wanting to be left alone and free, but also just being so good at being violent, you know, like, um, so playing with that is always fun, whether he's the loner or like, you know, whether he's the victim or the monster, it's always kind of going back and forth.
- 51:05[UNKNOWN]: And I think a little like me, Sean, as we're doing these, we're learning about the character as we go.
- 51:10[UNKNOWN]: Wolverine's never really been my favorite, but as we talk about him and like add more content, it becomes more interesting for me.
- 51:16[UNKNOWN]: I've become a Wolverine fan, which is surprising.
- 51:18[UNKNOWN]: Because he was that character in the 90s along with like Venom and Spider-Man, that was just everywhere and I was just like, oh my god, like it's too complicated.
- 51:26[UNKNOWN]: Ha ha ha.
- 51:27[UNKNOWN]: We definitely need more in the are more brainstorming lines because I like when they get him into that realm, like they usually do it when he's, um, God, what's the one person he takes it on when he's in the white suit, but it's not right.
- 51:54[UNKNOWN]: I could legit do six months of Wolverine content in a row on my show, following my show's format, where we only review like the early stuff, and not run out of content.
- 52:03[UNKNOWN]: Trials wise, sub-characters wise, Wolverine is an enormous character to tackle, and it's been interesting slowly weaving in his origin stories as we're going through.
- 52:13[UNKNOWN]: Love hanging with you both today, this was a delight, and we're going to finish up today with classic X-Men number 11, the backup story.
- 52:19[UNKNOWN]: This is a little
- 52:24[UNKNOWN]: We open on a small dark apartment, spring, a single lamp lights over a man at his desk, papers are everywhere, all over the desk pinned to the bulletin board, even watered up in the trash can.
- 52:35[UNKNOWN]: The phone rings again.
- 52:37[UNKNOWN]: Bring, words, stuck in trade.
- 52:40[UNKNOWN]: What made my world go round?
- 52:42[UNKNOWN]: Where'd they go?
- 52:43[UNKNOWN]: Why'd they turn so nasty?
- 52:45[UNKNOWN]: Get's have stale, a week's work, a rema paper, typewriter ribbon, ink cartridges, note pads, cans of coke, the old chocolate wrapper.
- 52:54[UNKNOWN]: Uh-oh, I'm the odd chocolate wrapper.
- 52:56[UNKNOWN]: Ah, chocolate wrapper, too many cigarettes, all garbage.
- 53:01[UNKNOWN]: Bring a cigarette burns in the ash tray underneath a no smoking sign on the bulletin board.
- 53:06[UNKNOWN]: I stare at the white page and all I see is the white page.
- 53:10[UNKNOWN]: No pictures, no dreams, no joy.
- 53:13[UNKNOWN]: Bring the answering machine clicks into place.
- 53:16[UNKNOWN]: So here, wait for the tone, leave a message, jarring back.
- 53:19[UNKNOWN]: Reep, read, leave the message.
- 53:21[UNKNOWN]: Promises, promises, jump, this is read.
- 53:24[UNKNOWN]: I'm tired of talking to you, bloody machine fill.
- 53:26[UNKNOWN]: I know what you're going through.
- 53:28[UNKNOWN]: I'm your editor, but you gotta meet me halfway.
- 53:30[UNKNOWN]: I can't cover for you forever.
- 53:32[UNKNOWN]: Have some sympathy for my position, Chamo.
- 53:34[UNKNOWN]: More heart-up against a deadline.
- 53:36[UNKNOWN]: Click, film move suddenly, sweeping the entire typewriter off the desk and spilling his mug of coffee onto the floor.
- 53:42[UNKNOWN]: You think I don't know that?
- 53:44[UNKNOWN]: You think I don't bloody care?
- 53:45[UNKNOWN]: The world of it is, Chamo.
- 53:47[UNKNOWN]: I don't.
- 53:47[UNKNOWN]: We get our first view of Phil.
- 53:49[UNKNOWN]: White, mid-30s, I kept black beard, purple shirt, jeans, gold watch.
- 53:54[UNKNOWN]: He slumps over his desk and defeat.
- 53:56[UNKNOWN]: So, and he sits up, leans against a wall, and gets himself out of the chair as he walks into the dark and empty house, puts on a green coat and brown scarf.
- 54:03[UNKNOWN]: and walks out into the cold night in London.
- 54:06[UNKNOWN]: I made a raw mess, perhaps for a sit long enough to go away, doesn't, so I do.
- 54:11[UNKNOWN]: Once upon a time, I was cock of the walk.
- 54:13[UNKNOWN]: The words came like breathing.
- 54:15[UNKNOWN]: Second nature of lost the words.
- 54:17[UNKNOWN]: A rattle of quick breathing.
- 54:18[UNKNOWN]: That was a joke.
- 54:19[UNKNOWN]: Why don't I laugh?
- 54:20[UNKNOWN]: Once upon a time, it didn't matter where I lived.
- 54:23[UNKNOWN]: How bleak and sterile box, because that was only somewhere to park the board.
- 54:27[UNKNOWN]: Well, the older imagination went wandering.
- 54:32[UNKNOWN]: crafted the most daring deeds, wooed the most fabulous lady.
- 54:35[UNKNOWN]: It wasn't reality.
- 54:37[UNKNOWN]: It was adventure with a gradual and exhortable, inevitable suddenness.
- 54:42[UNKNOWN]: It stopped being fun.
- 54:43[UNKNOWN]: It was a gradual and inexorable, inevitable suddenness.
- 54:47[UNKNOWN]: It stopped being fun.
- 54:48[UNKNOWN]: He walks right by the office of his newspaper, the evening paper, where the lead headline is, woman killer escapes, police mount nationwide manhunt.
- 54:57[UNKNOWN]: Phil begins to rant out loud now.
- 55:01[UNKNOWN]: I've spent that your grindstone, redge, honed in my craft, build in my rep.
- 55:05[UNKNOWN]: I brought my back for the company.
- 55:07[UNKNOWN]: Why can't you be satisfied with that?
- 55:09[UNKNOWN]: And it's never the second rate work that gets grief.
- 55:12[UNKNOWN]: Invariably, the top-notch stories, the stuff I put my heart into.
- 55:16[UNKNOWN]: I'm proud of stuff.
- 55:17[UNKNOWN]: I care the most about.
- 55:18[UNKNOWN]: Listen to yourself, man.
- 55:19[UNKNOWN]: What a whiner.
- 55:21[UNKNOWN]: Bleat, bleat, sob, sob, your grown man!
- 55:23[UNKNOWN]: Positively, a professional, how often have you been told?
- 55:27[UNKNOWN]: Nobody forces you to work here, Phil.
- 55:29[UNKNOWN]: Phil walks through neighborhoods and ends up at the real world building, the GPO Tower.
- 55:34[UNKNOWN]: Remember, it's the mid-1980s in this classic X-Men story, setting a story in the late 1970s, ignoring the no entry, please keep outside, Phil walks right in.
- 55:44[UNKNOWN]: So why don't I leave?
- 55:45[UNKNOWN]: Now guts, I'll always be more scared of what I'm giving up than what I might gain.
- 55:50[UNKNOWN]: Two bloody comfortable, hmm, GPO Tower.
- 55:53[UNKNOWN]: Tallest building in London.
- 55:55[UNKNOWN]: When I was young, Renegal's flagship character, Dan Dare, pilot of the future.
- 56:00[UNKNOWN]: And one of his most exciting battles around this high-tech needle
- 56:04[UNKNOWN]: Stories like that got me started writing everything I saw red or even did had such a sense of wonder how it was open to the public originally But terrorist bomb threats forces closure so much for the threat normally a be a good boy obey the rules keep my distance tonight I don't care.
- 56:23[UNKNOWN]: I'll try the door isn't locked
- 56:25[UNKNOWN]: So, in I go, originally the circular top floors were an observation deck and revolving restaurant.
- 56:31[UNKNOWN]: My folks promised me a birthday dinner there, ancient history, but the tower was closed before I got it.
- 56:37[UNKNOWN]: Fair view, not worth the anticipation.
- 56:40[UNKNOWN]: Wonder where the guards are, never been arrested, new experience, big deal.
- 56:45[UNKNOWN]: I should care, but I don't, can't be bothered about that.
- 56:48[UNKNOWN]: And a lot of things, like I'm dope, not altogether here.
- 56:52[UNKNOWN]: Totally overwhelmingly tired, only sleep doesn't even help.
- 56:56[UNKNOWN]: Where's this lead, I wonder?
- 56:58[UNKNOWN]: Ha!
- 56:58[UNKNOWN]: And by the way, Dan Derr was a real British science fiction comic hero that ran from 1950 to 1967.
- 57:06[UNKNOWN]: There had been comics, radio shows, and cartoon adaptations.
- 57:10[UNKNOWN]: Phil walks into another off-limits area marked as maintenance and ends up on a high-expans roof top overlooking the dark city.
- 57:17[UNKNOWN]: London's built pretty much low to the ground, only on the natural rises like high gate in Mosswell Hill.
- 57:23[UNKNOWN]: You get any sort of spectacular panorama there and here, long way down, should be careful, I have vertigo.
- 57:30[UNKNOWN]: I wrote too much fantasy, can't go near a drop without wanting to leap off, try my hand at flying, want so much and nothing more so than oblivion.
- 57:39[UNKNOWN]: You should not stand so near the edge, you might fall.
- 57:42[UNKNOWN]: Who?
- 57:42[UNKNOWN]: What in Heaven's name?
- 57:44[UNKNOWN]: I am Storm.
- 57:46[UNKNOWN]: In her full leather costume, NTR, I keep flaired hair blowing in the wind, Storm lowers herself in the air to the roof.
- 57:53[UNKNOWN]: I am hallucinating.
- 57:54[UNKNOWN]: My mom snatched your real, and you can fly of all the bloody luck.
- 57:58[UNKNOWN]: Why are you angry?
- 58:00[UNKNOWN]: My business looked.
- 58:01[UNKNOWN]: You wouldn't understand.
- 58:02[UNKNOWN]: What should you even care, you know me?
- 58:04[UNKNOWN]: Your face is familiar.
- 58:05[UNKNOWN]: Yours, unforgettable.
- 58:07[UNKNOWN]: Have we met?
- 58:08[UNKNOWN]: Not even in my wildest dreams, more the pity I'm filled, Alan.
- 58:12[UNKNOWN]: The writer, I only recently discovered your word.
- 58:15[UNKNOWN]: I enjoy it very much.
- 58:16[UNKNOWN]: I'm happy to meet you.
- 58:17[UNKNOWN]: Let's stay strangers, be modern, be sensible.
- 58:20[UNKNOWN]: Go our separate ignorant ways and leave it at that, okay?
- 58:23[UNKNOWN]: But give me, I was alone, I saw you alone.
- 58:26[UNKNOWN]: I sensed a pain in name, a great sadness.
- 58:29[UNKNOWN]: I thought only to be of help.
- 58:31[UNKNOWN]: Oh, flat it.
- 58:31[UNKNOWN]: There's no need.
- 58:32[UNKNOWN]: Storm lands and faces fill.
- 58:34[UNKNOWN]: She's at least three inches taller than him.
- 58:36[UNKNOWN]: He turns away.
- 58:37[UNKNOWN]: We are both human, my friend.
- 58:39[UNKNOWN]: Both a lot more than sufficient reasons are they not to hold out of hand.
- 58:43[UNKNOWN]: But not always to take the hand that's off of.
- 58:45[UNKNOWN]: I've soared hard by the Reaper most of my life, mama.
- 58:48[UNKNOWN]: Seeing deaf my friends and loved ones and strangers, but impartial efficiency based on myself at times what have been terribly easy to use and no doubt will do so again.
- 58:58[UNKNOWN]: It is better to fight to live, to create, to grow.
- 59:02[UNKNOWN]: The end will come quickly enough in the natural course of things.
- 59:05[UNKNOWN]: Why are you to demand?
- 59:06[UNKNOWN]: What about those who can't create any more?
- 59:08[UNKNOWN]: Who nothing grows?
- 59:09[UNKNOWN]: Who?
- 59:10[UNKNOWN]: Who are you?
- 59:11[UNKNOWN]: To say, my natural time has to come when I'm old.
- 59:14[UNKNOWN]: Why not tonight?
- 59:15[UNKNOWN]: Why not now?
- 59:16[UNKNOWN]: You would be next?
- 59:17[UNKNOWN]: Out of pass.
- 59:18[UNKNOWN]: You need to jump to them.
- 59:19[UNKNOWN]: Oh, it's cross my mind.
- 59:21[UNKNOWN]: Perhaps I can provide a reason.
- 59:23[UNKNOWN]: Ah, I teach you me to fly.
- 59:24[UNKNOWN]: What that were possible, but I am mutants.
- 59:26[UNKNOWN]: That power, I was born with.
- 59:28[UNKNOWN]: However, I can show you what it is like.
- 59:30[UNKNOWN]: Oh, yeah, ha!
- 59:32[UNKNOWN]: Storm uses a wind to blow Phil off the edge, and then she flies up to grab his hand in the air.
- 59:38[UNKNOWN]: Relax, Phil, I shall not drop him.
- 59:40[UNKNOWN]: He was safe with me.
- 59:41[UNKNOWN]: Co here in thought is impossible, much less speech.
- 59:44[UNKNOWN]: At first, all I do is make noise is jibbering idiot, that's me.
- 59:49[UNKNOWN]: This can't be happening, but it is.
- 59:52[UNKNOWN]: Despite himself, Phil has a shitting grin on his face, as the two of them fly over the city like it's Peter Pan, and they've just been sprinkled with pixie dust.
- 1:00:00[UNKNOWN]: in the darkness, the city lights sparkle like juice, stretching far as the eye can see.
- 1:00:05[UNKNOWN]: As high as we saw, the street sounds can't be heard.
- 1:00:08[UNKNOWN]: So I make my own, a wild wavering, wailing, woping chair.
- 1:00:12[UNKNOWN]: Whoa, wait, don't laugh.
- 1:00:17[UNKNOWN]: So do I, really laugh, an ages since I felt the urge.
- 1:00:20[UNKNOWN]: I like when when Simming gets all demurred,
- 1:00:27[UNKNOWN]: Up among the clouds, storm lounges on her side and fill lays his arms behind his head like he's laying in the grass.
- 1:00:35[UNKNOWN]: It's winter, you know, we should be freezing.
- 1:00:37[UNKNOWN]: The elements of nature are nines, it can end.
- 1:00:39[UNKNOWN]: Hence, the winds that mold us a lot are warm, despite the seas.
- 1:00:43[UNKNOWN]: Ah, malady, my friends can see me now.
- 1:00:45[UNKNOWN]: and mine as well.
- 1:00:46[UNKNOWN]: But for all my powers for it, I cannot convey the wonder and glory of them, the quiet, serenity of this moment to them, show them firsthand the house, but leverage them.
- 1:00:56[UNKNOWN]: That is your gift.
- 1:00:57[UNKNOWN]: That's the whole point.
- 1:00:58[UNKNOWN]: It isn't my gift, not me more.
- 1:01:00[UNKNOWN]: The words won't come.
- 1:01:01[UNKNOWN]: The
- 1:01:01[UNKNOWN]: flat and sterile, no joy and less meaning.
- 1:01:04[UNKNOWN]: The passion that the special fire that made my stories memorable and worthwhile.
- 1:01:09[UNKNOWN]: That's gone.
- 1:01:10[UNKNOWN]: The works become an exercise and technique, structure without substance.
- 1:01:14[UNKNOWN]: All that's left in me and my work is pain.
- 1:01:18[UNKNOWN]: Storm that gets worse every time I put pen to paper.
- 1:01:22[UNKNOWN]: And I can't do it any longer.
- 1:01:23[UNKNOWN]: I won't deceive myself by trying.
- 1:01:26[UNKNOWN]: Then I'm something else.
- 1:01:28[UNKNOWN]: Storms that's him down on the roof, and he turns away from her again.
- 1:01:31[UNKNOWN]: I'm a writer, there is nothing out, turning things around if I snap my fingers and took away your powers.
- 1:01:37[UNKNOWN]: How would you feel?
- 1:01:37[UNKNOWN]: What are we?
- 1:01:38[UNKNOWN]: Without a reason for being, Storm, why don't you answer?
- 1:01:42[UNKNOWN]: Phil turns around and finds a man in a security guard uniform with a nightstick in his hand, standing over Storm's unconscious body.
- 1:01:50[UNKNOWN]: Blok wears a gods uniform, but even in the moonlight, I can see how poorly fits.
- 1:01:54[UNKNOWN]: And see as well madness in his eyes.
- 1:01:58[UNKNOWN]: I have broke me on.
- 1:01:59[UNKNOWN]: You want to jump make him a guest.
- 1:02:01[UNKNOWN]: I give it to somebody.
- 1:02:02[UNKNOWN]: Accents.
- 1:02:05[UNKNOWN]: love it.
- 1:02:05[UNKNOWN]: The man grabs Storm's cape and pulls her body inside.
- 1:02:08[UNKNOWN]: Accent stick cockney, slick with glee, regulent pain, joyously dished out as received.
- 1:02:14[UNKNOWN]: My business is with the fly away girly boy.
- 1:02:18[UNKNOWN]: You, you're the killer, the one the police are after.
- 1:02:21[UNKNOWN]: Righty right you all, my bright young buck and go ahead in the class, crack the skull, steal a suit and all the blue bottles pass me by.
- 1:02:29[UNKNOWN]: Cause
- 1:02:29[UNKNOWN]: Oh, he looks like one of their own.
- 1:02:30[UNKNOWN]: Crack yours too, you cross my road.
- 1:02:33[UNKNOWN]: Giggle, fading down the stair, wet crimson, staining roof and headdress.
- 1:02:37[UNKNOWN]: Is she dead, my fault?
- 1:02:39[UNKNOWN]: She stopped here because of me with so intent on my problems.
- 1:02:42[UNKNOWN]: My needs, she left herself vulnerable to the maniac.
- 1:02:45[UNKNOWN]: I didn't ask you to get involved.
- 1:02:47[UNKNOWN]: I read the papers.
- 1:02:48[UNKNOWN]: I can imagine what he'll do, more blood and awful death, stop them then.
- 1:02:53[UNKNOWN]: He'll kill me, isn't that what I want?
- 1:02:55[UNKNOWN]: But if I save Storm, she'll stop me.
- 1:02:57[UNKNOWN]: Bill walks in.
- 1:02:58[UNKNOWN]: The man has taken off his jacket, and we can presume he is planning a sexual assault here.
- 1:03:03[UNKNOWN]: Stupid git takes me to be a smart, let her go, like me, she's alive.
- 1:03:08[UNKNOWN]: Unfortunately, Anna used to fight and the killer's an expert of never really been hit out.
- 1:03:13[UNKNOWN]: A blow than a fist to the job, but Storm is waking up, her head is bleeding.
- 1:03:18[UNKNOWN]: so easy in the mind.
- 1:03:20[UNKNOWN]: On the pages of the imagination, fist, fist, like rocks, kick, flailing, falling, failing.
- 1:03:26[UNKNOWN]: No, the vision will not set me sick to the stomach.
- 1:03:29[UNKNOWN]: God's shatter, no strength to focus, concentrations so hard, stay awake, must.
- 1:03:35[UNKNOWN]: And there's a lightning blast, and a gust of wind.
- 1:03:38[UNKNOWN]: Snap a ozone, air that's burning, flash a lightning that storms out stretch, fingertips to the killer, horse-shrieaked horn from his throat, gust of typhoon wind, thought a bone on stone, hope it hurts, hope he's a broken rag doll.
- 1:03:52[UNKNOWN]: I try to stop sobbing, takes a while, too much hope, far more fear.
- 1:03:56[UNKNOWN]: You saved me.
- 1:03:58[UNKNOWN]: You provided opportunity for me to gather weights.
- 1:04:01[UNKNOWN]: Rest, don't try to talk, you may be concuss, I'll tie up our prisoner, then ring for police and ambulance.
- 1:04:06[UNKNOWN]: And afterwards, we struggling to stay awake, storm grabs his arm.
- 1:04:10[UNKNOWN]: A baby has more strength than her hand when she grabs me, a whisper more force at her voice.
- 1:04:15[UNKNOWN]: It's my life storm to do with as I please.
- 1:04:18[UNKNOWN]: Then my dear friends, with all my heart, I beg you, do not throw it away.
- 1:04:23[UNKNOWN]: Question is, questions always been, will I be doing that by dying or staying alive?
- 1:04:30[UNKNOWN]: While you live, you hope, and with hope, there are always possibilities.
- 1:04:34[UNKNOWN]: Maybe.
- 1:04:35[UNKNOWN]: Maybe not.
- 1:04:35[UNKNOWN]: The choice is mine.
- 1:04:37[UNKNOWN]: The end.
- 1:04:38[UNKNOWN]: I am fascinated by this little backup story.
- 1:04:42[UNKNOWN]: Earlier we said the leprechauns were click-crisq-claremont, but clearly Phil Hala Red is Chris Claremont, who has his the source.
- 1:04:50[UNKNOWN]: Goddamn, right in his head.
- 1:04:51[UNKNOWN]: As he reads every word and every like the synonym of every word, just to what was it like for you crafting this character?
- 1:04:58[UNKNOWN]: Who is
- 1:05:02[UNKNOWN]: You know, I I tried to understand where he's coming from, you know, he's experienced such highs for so long and he feels as though it's it's gone from him and he's a shell of the man that he once was so like what's what's where like I don't know it just he is a sad sack that is unable to transition to the next phase of his life and I feel like it's taking it.
- 1:05:25[UNKNOWN]: not to be little, you know, how that feels or how that impacts him, I feel like there's a lot of struggle with in him and what his intent is.
- 1:05:33[UNKNOWN]: He doesn't know what he wants from life now that the thing that he had is gone or at least he feels it's gone.
- 1:05:38[UNKNOWN]: And we have storm here in like a literal role of a goddess.
- 1:05:42[UNKNOWN]: She's like swooping in almost like she's answering a prayer in this story.
- 1:05:46[UNKNOWN]: This is a crazy storm story and watching them fly around
- 1:05:50[UNKNOWN]: I honestly feel like there's a very interesting, because you kind of see Storm connect with the sky in a sense of learning that both of them seem to have for like a brighter hopeful life that Storm was able to find because she felt that on we at some points, but him it looks like he's like really deep in and she's trying she seems a whisperer, tindred spirit at this point, just trying to figure out another reason to go by the next day.
- 1:06:15[UNKNOWN]: And honestly, I'd be killed in that sometimes.
- 1:06:17[UNKNOWN]: This is an interesting story and well-seated, really fun and very similar to that night crawler that we talked about last time with all the jugglers balls.
- 1:06:25[UNKNOWN]: Phil Haloran only has one other Marvel appearance ever or at least a mention in a comic book.
- 1:06:31[UNKNOWN]: Fast forward to just a couple of years ago in Anthony Olivera's Avengers Academy for those of you that may have read and were loved that book.
- 1:06:40[UNKNOWN]: In issue number six, we go to a place called Saunders Bookstore where Escapade, our trans icon, the lovely lovely character, is inside.
- 1:06:49[UNKNOWN]: Do you believe this?
- 1:06:50[UNKNOWN]: Do I believe what?
- 1:06:52[UNKNOWN]: Phil Hallerand finally published a new book.
- 1:06:55[UNKNOWN]: They say he met stormwants.
- 1:06:56[UNKNOWN]: You've met Storm Sheila.
- 1:06:58[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, but like met her met her.
- 1:07:00[UNKNOWN]: And then Escapade wants his autograph.
- 1:07:03[UNKNOWN]: So they are heading down the stairs and end up sucked into another dimension basically.
- 1:07:09[UNKNOWN]: I feel like there was a story a few years after this in DC was Superman, similar kind of thing where he goes up onto a ledge of somebody who's going to kill himself.
- 1:07:23[UNKNOWN]: All stars Superman, so he comes and saves this girl who lives about to kill herself because her therapist didn't show up to her appointment.
- 1:07:29[UNKNOWN]: And it's one of the most brilliant scenes that everybody has asked him to be in Man tomorrow.
- 1:07:38[UNKNOWN]: Oh, absolutely.
- 1:07:39[UNKNOWN]: Okay, so we flashed to the end of the Avengers Academy story and Escapade is back in line.
- 1:07:44[UNKNOWN]: Phil Halleran says, hi there.
- 1:07:46[UNKNOWN]: Love the hair.
- 1:07:46[UNKNOWN]: She says, oh, thanks.
- 1:07:48[UNKNOWN]: I just wanted to say thank you, Mr. Halleran.
- 1:07:50[UNKNOWN]: When I was a kid before I even, I read stories like yours and they saved me.
- 1:07:55[UNKNOWN]: We get a view of Phil who is now completely white.
- 1:07:57[UNKNOWN]: She says, when everything else, they just made me feel less alone.
- 1:08:01[UNKNOWN]: He says, I'm glad.
- 1:08:02[UNKNOWN]: I'm glad I was there.
- 1:08:03[UNKNOWN]: Thank you.
- 1:08:04[UNKNOWN]: She says, you signed this for me when I was a kid, but could you sign it again for Sheila this time?
- 1:08:09[UNKNOWN]: And so like she's using her new name, not the referencing the dead name where he signed her book originally.
- 1:08:15[UNKNOWN]: So I love, I love Anthony Olivera for bringing in this deep dig.
- 1:08:19[UNKNOWN]: By the way, the, what he says in her book, dear Sheila, while you live, you hope.
- 1:08:24[UNKNOWN]: That's the quote, he writes at the beginning, which is what Storm said to him, but that nobody ages in the Marble University except for random civilians.
- 1:08:32[UNKNOWN]: He's like gray hair and time has passed, but Kitty Pride is still like seven years older.
- 1:08:38[UNKNOWN]: You can do it.
- 1:08:39[UNKNOWN]: Miss Avengers Academy, it's so good.
- 1:08:42[UNKNOWN]: Anthony, we love you.
- 1:08:43[UNKNOWN]: My, my book, Game Warman Dad came out in May if you have not ordered it yet, I'd be thrilled if you would like to.
- 1:08:49[UNKNOWN]: Give it a read and if you liked it, please leave a review on good reads, it really helps.
- 1:08:55[UNKNOWN]: I'm going to be at T-Calf this first week of June.
- 1:08:58[UNKNOWN]: I will also be at the ALA conference in Chicago in just a couple of weeks and doing a few more cons later.
- 1:09:03[UNKNOWN]: This summer, so if you're in the area, please come and say hello.
- 1:09:06[UNKNOWN]: Thank you to all of my wonderful friends.
- 1:09:08[UNKNOWN]: Hi there, again, I am here in SCARM.
- 1:09:10[UNKNOWN]: I would like to first formally apologize to the Irish for however I bled your accent today that is on my that's my bad.
- 1:09:17[UNKNOWN]: You can probably find me at my Instagram here in SCARM cosplay me and my friend Legend of Anton's podcast.
- 1:09:24[UNKNOWN]: The vulgar about our first episode is literally just going to be talking about spider in and Superman, so by the time that drops, and it's my time to drop, that should have also dropped it right now.
- 1:09:34[UNKNOWN]: And you're going to hear us talk a lot of very shit about those two heroes, but otherwise, yeah, watch for Haram as well later this month as we have an expose on storm and find them on their new threads account abroad not a bimbo.
- 1:09:50[UNKNOWN]: That's true.
- 1:09:50[UNKNOWN]: Hi, everyone.

- 1:12:12[UNKNOWN]: So I love to do these podcasts and these really funny voices, including leprotons.
- 1:12:17[UNKNOWN]: And if Bert from Mary Poppins was a villain today, so that's kind of where I went with that.

- 1:13:37[UNKNOWN]: We'll see you back here in a few seconds.
- 1:13:38[UNKNOWN]: On a great month in length.
- 1:13:39[UNKNOWN]: Hey everybody, thanks for sticking around for the second half of the Grand Vulcan Lane podcast and let me say once again a happy Pride month to those who are celebrating out there in the world of 2026 is a
- 1:13:49[UNKNOWN]: crazy time.
- 1:13:50[UNKNOWN]: I'm thrilled to be meeting for the very first time the lovely and incredible Margot people I hear.
- 1:13:55[UNKNOWN]: Margot for many years has worked as an artist.
- 1:13:57[UNKNOWN]: For many companies has a quite a comics history under their original name.
- 1:14:03[UNKNOWN]: I will let Margot share that part of their story.
- 1:14:07[UNKNOWN]: publicly coming out just relatively recently and I'm so thrilled to have you on the show for the first time.
- 1:14:12[UNKNOWN]: Margo, welcome to Grimmolk and Lane.
- 1:14:14[UNKNOWN]: I'd love it if you'd share with everybody a little about yourself.
- 1:14:16[UNKNOWN]: Please include your pronouns and a little of your origin in comment books, if you would.
- 1:14:21[UNKNOWN]: Okay.
- 1:14:22[UNKNOWN]: Well, my name is Margo Piquoy and my pronouns are she-her.
- 1:14:25[UNKNOWN]: And Margo, by the way, everyone is with a G-E-A-U-X, so you know she's fancy.
- 1:14:31[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, that's as my girlfriend says, you know, oh, you have to be bushy as fuck.
- 1:14:37[UNKNOWN]: I came out just recently, but yeah, I've been doing comics professionally for 36 years.
- 1:14:42[UNKNOWN]: Although this year, I do have a special anniversary that I'll be celebrating right around the time this comes out, which is the 45th anniversary publication of my very first fencing that I did back in 1981.
- 1:14:53[UNKNOWN]: who what was it it was called Captain Dynamo okay okay let's let's jump right in if we can let's go back to 1981 tell me a little about you then that tells me a lot already if you're the type of person producing a fanz okay well I mean there is a good story with with this actually so um this is like I said summer 1981 I lived in a small town in Michigan Holland Michigan uh so our the big city for us was Grand Rapids my been there it was cold
- 1:15:22[UNKNOWN]: It can be it can be I my my parents were supportive of me and my you know interest in comics I'd already been into comics for a little while like you know I already done such things is you know like at age 11 had gone down to our local newspaper without telling my parents to try to get them to publish my comics.
- 1:15:40[UNKNOWN]: and things like that.
- 1:15:41[UNKNOWN]: But yeah, so summer 1981, Mike Gustavitch, who you may remember as an anchor and artist creator of the Justice Machine, was teaching a summer class at the the the college, the art college in Grand Rapids.
- 1:15:54[UNKNOWN]: And so my mom would take me in at the beginning of each week, and I'd stay with my grandma who lived in Grand Rapids.
- 1:16:00[UNKNOWN]: and go to this class.
- 1:16:01[UNKNOWN]: The final assignment for the class was to draw a three-page story featuring your own character.
- 1:16:07[UNKNOWN]: And so I did, and of course, being 12, I had such great characters as Captain Dynamo with the name Dynamo stolen from the Thunder Agents.
- 1:16:15[UNKNOWN]: And
- 1:16:16[UNKNOWN]: There was another kid in the class, Tom Negovic, who I'm still friends with 45 years later.
- 1:16:22[UNKNOWN]: And like I said, I was 12, he was 10.
- 1:16:24[UNKNOWN]: And he said, I'm gonna have a comic book convention in my garage.
- 1:16:28[UNKNOWN]: And if you finish that fanzine, you know, if you are not fanzine, if you finish that story and print it up, I will buy 25 copies to sell in my comic book convention in my garage.
- 1:16:40[UNKNOWN]: So I did, that problem to me to finish my very first,
- 1:16:43[UNKNOWN]: You know, comic book story was like 12 pages long.
- 1:16:46[UNKNOWN]: My dad's not me to his office building on a weekend.
- 1:16:49[UNKNOWN]: I'm like a Saturday morning and we ran off my comic book on the company copier and and I then, you know, went after Grand Rapids to Tom's house where we had a comic book convention in his garage people actually came to this.
- 1:17:03[UNKNOWN]: And this is actually the first time Tom sort of made our happen.
- 1:17:09[UNKNOWN]: And that is something he still does to this day.
- 1:17:11[UNKNOWN]: He still makes artistic projects happen for other people.
- 1:17:15[UNKNOWN]: His latest project being the restoration of the Malcolm Bell Film Collegula, which he has been touring the world with Malcolm Bell playing film festivals with the restoration of he made happen.
- 1:17:27[UNKNOWN]: creative, lovely people who pursue their passions.
- 1:17:30[UNKNOWN]: Like, it's just my, this is my community.
- 1:17:32[UNKNOWN]: It makes me so happy every time my hear stories like that.
- 1:17:35[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
- 1:17:35[UNKNOWN]: And, you know, like I said, Tom and I are still friends.
- 1:17:38[UNKNOWN]: We, you know, we don't see each other that often.
- 1:17:40[UNKNOWN]: We ran into each other at a, at a darkness concert recently, if you know, the band's darkness.
- 1:17:44[UNKNOWN]: But yeah, he's, he's still around and we're still friends.
- 1:17:47[UNKNOWN]: And, and so yeah, so I did my first fantasy in 1981.
- 1:17:50[UNKNOWN]: That's why you're living.
- 1:17:51[UNKNOWN]: Do you want to talk about your entrance into the world of professional comics?
- 1:17:54[UNKNOWN]: Well, that started because I was a pesky fanzine publisher, you know, I was, I was very determined, you know, I did things like summer 1983 when parents would let their 14-year-old kid go to the big, you know, drive three hours with his 16-year-old friends to the big city of Chicago to go to a comic book convention.
- 1:18:15[UNKNOWN]: And I went and I brought my own table and I went in and I asked, can I set up my own little table and sell my fanzines?
- 1:18:21[UNKNOWN]: And, you know, back in those days,
- 1:18:24[UNKNOWN]: And so I started meeting more professionals that by actually like I was literally on the same row with how we're chaken John burn Trevor mind You know Jose Luis Garcia Lopez at age 14 and that's also how I met Bill William who sat next to me who I later worked with on fables You know 30 years later.
- 1:18:42[UNKNOWN]: Yeah I love fables by the way.
- 1:18:44[UNKNOWN]: I don't talk about fables on my show often, but I really enjoy it
- 1:18:47[UNKNOWN]: But yeah, so I started going to the conventions and at that show also at age 14 started standing in the professional portfolio lines and I started meeting editors and meeting other potential creators who later when I finally was ready to break in in the late 80s early 90s were the same people that I had met all that time ago.
- 1:19:05[UNKNOWN]: And yeah, Jenny is here.
- 1:19:07[UNKNOWN]: Yes, I am the inestimable Jenny is a fella has just arrived everyone.
- 1:19:12[UNKNOWN]: I'm going to keep going and that all welcomes Eddie properly.
- 1:19:15[UNKNOWN]: I like I said, I started making the rounds the conventions I could get to.
- 1:19:20[UNKNOWN]: My fanzings have been getting around.
- 1:19:21[UNKNOWN]: So Gary Reed, when he was starting caliber, had reached out to me when I was like 16 years old.
- 1:19:26[UNKNOWN]: But I was too busy going to punk concerts and chasing girls to actually sit down and get a comic book done.
- 1:19:32[UNKNOWN]: But he did end up in 1989 by my first two professional stories that I sold a couple little one pages for caliber presents and that was, you know, that was that start.
- 1:19:41[UNKNOWN]: And then the next summer, one of the people I've been doing fanzines with, Tim Eldred, helped me get into my first professional inking job at Malibu and then by spring break of my senior year of college just a few months later.
- 1:19:54[UNKNOWN]: You know, again, some of these same people I've met going to these conventions and standing in lines since I was 14 years old, where some of the people who helped me break, you know, break into Marvel and DC, I'm my very first attempt in in the spring of 1991, you know, I, I walked in there, you know, Michael Davis, if you know who he is, had helped and helped and helped again, appointments at DC and I got to an editor's office, you know, just that they like between the time I left reception got to the senators office and emergency phone call would come in.
- 1:20:22[UNKNOWN]: she came out of her office, you know, very, very upset.
- 1:20:24[UNKNOWN]: She's like, oh, no, I've got a family emergency.
- 1:20:26[UNKNOWN]: I've got to leave.
- 1:20:27[UNKNOWN]: I'm sorry.
- 1:20:28[UNKNOWN]: And so I'm left standing there in the hallways of DC Comics.
- 1:20:31[UNKNOWN]: My very first time ever in New York City, looking confused, Brian Augustine walked out of his office next door and took pity on me, looked at my portfolio and gave me the flash animal to do.
- 1:20:42[UNKNOWN]: So that was my big break.
- 1:20:43[UNKNOWN]: And you know, it just, I just happened to be literally standing in the right place at the right time.
- 1:20:47[UNKNOWN]: What would you say you're best known for or
- 1:20:52[UNKNOWN]: With my Marvel, probably mutant acts, the X-Men spin-off series, which I did work to some extent, even was just the cover on every single issue of that series.
- 1:21:02[UNKNOWN]: And then I did that for three years.
- 1:21:04[UNKNOWN]: This is the story where havoc a character just created to be cut over and over again, goes to another universe.
- 1:21:12[UNKNOWN]: And tries to deliver his best life as cyclops there.
- 1:21:17[UNKNOWN]: Hey, let me also welcome the incredible Jenny is a valet to the show.
- 1:21:20[UNKNOWN]: Jenny how lovely to see you at the beginning of this year.
- 1:21:23[UNKNOWN]: We started doing some live script reads on my show of your old champions issues.
- 1:21:27[UNKNOWN]: So we have got like custom people coming in and doing Russian accents and you know, southern, you know, ghostwriters saying things like sweet jump on catfish.
- 1:21:37[UNKNOWN]: No, no, no, they got to go straight or wrong.
- 1:21:39[UNKNOWN]: He's a cowboy.
- 1:21:40[UNKNOWN]: He's not a southern redneck.
- 1:21:43[UNKNOWN]: He's a motorized cowboy As we talk all about the queer subtext that exists in that title.
- 1:21:50[UNKNOWN]: What a wonderful journey.
- 1:21:51[UNKNOWN]: Now Jenny has also I would love to know what that queer subtext is because at the time I didn't know I used to Was gay my suspected Hercules go straight as certainly wasn't I?
- 1:22:02[UNKNOWN]: There's a there's dialogue if you listen to our script reads.
- 1:22:05[UNKNOWN]: It's funny to hear it read out loud There's dialogues where like a little missible shoot and ice-man will grab it and be like I've got the rod.
- 1:22:11[UNKNOWN]: I got it before it can shoot her please and and and and land in his hot little hands and you're like Oh, goodness Was that what was that one of mine or what a bill of antlers?
- 1:22:20[UNKNOWN]: I think that one's one of yours Wow
- 1:22:25[UNKNOWN]: It's really fun.
- 1:22:26[UNKNOWN]: I'll confirm that.
- 1:22:27[UNKNOWN]: I'll confirm that when I read that I'm planning on reading the champions actually very soon in Mike and in Mike.
- 1:22:34[UNKNOWN]: As I was saying before you got here, I'm reading through a lot of the old X-Men series and I've now moved on to the 70s.
- 1:22:39[UNKNOWN]: So I, you know, I will be doing the tangent things like champions.
- 1:22:43[UNKNOWN]: So I've got a, I've got life reliance just for you.
- 1:22:46[UNKNOWN]: My biggest regret about the champion is that, you know, that I never got to do the story that revealed that Ivan is actually black with those father.
- 1:22:54[UNKNOWN]: It was a whole Russian tragedy thing where where his wife and and he thought his son had both been killed.
- 1:23:00[UNKNOWN]: he didn't feel worthy of getting his daughter's love.
- 1:23:03[UNKNOWN]: So she didn't know it wasn't until the story I had actually started, but then that changed that I was going to reveal that Ivan was her father.
- 1:23:10[UNKNOWN]: A later writer's will reveal that Ivan Petrovich has been secretly in love with Wanda.
- 1:23:16[UNKNOWN]: So he has a full supervillain turn in the early 2000s.
- 1:23:20[UNKNOWN]: With Wanda?
- 1:23:21[UNKNOWN]: I'm sorry.
- 1:23:21[UNKNOWN]: I said Wanda with the Tasha.
- 1:23:22[UNKNOWN]: I mean, look, they're both, you know, I mean, as somebody who prefers women, you know, they're both pretty high.
- 1:23:30[UNKNOWN]: I think I didn't agree with Black Widow because she could break my body.
- 1:23:34[UNKNOWN]: What a good break my reality.
- 1:23:36[UNKNOWN]: So we're gonna release this in Pride Month.
- 1:23:39[UNKNOWN]: My show is assembled a really lovely group of queer fans and friends and allies.
- 1:23:44[UNKNOWN]: I have lots of conversations with lots of incredible and talented trans women and men on the show from all different walks of life from fans to cosplayers to writers and artists.
- 1:23:54[UNKNOWN]: Now, the two of you coming out as trans, these are names that I grew up reading in my books or have typed endless profiles in the Marvel appendixes and handbooks referencing your materials.
- 1:24:06[UNKNOWN]: Knowing both of you is lovely, but seeing the representation as trans women, you were there in plain sight all the time, but we don't know how to tell us, you know what I mean?
- 1:24:16[UNKNOWN]: It's such a beautiful thing to know that these stories exist in our world,
- 1:24:20[UNKNOWN]: I remember growing up, I identified as gay.
- 1:24:23[UNKNOWN]: I didn't come out to the age of 32, which was 15 years ago, 16 years ago.
- 1:24:27[UNKNOWN]: I used to watch a ton of Nick at night as a kid.
- 1:24:30[UNKNOWN]: And I remember feeling very isolated as a kid, like unseen.
- 1:24:34[UNKNOWN]: But as a queer man looking back and realizing not only was their queer subtext and all of my comics and these old shows, but a lot of the actors and producers were queer.
- 1:24:43[UNKNOWN]: Go goodness, watch it be witched at any point, and it's just a gay story.
- 1:24:48[UNKNOWN]: So representation matters, for sure.
- 1:24:50[UNKNOWN]: So one of the places I want to start with you both, and let me have a Jenny and then Margo go on this one.
- 1:24:54[UNKNOWN]: If you recall growing up, who are the characters or the stories that you saw yourselves in?
- 1:24:59[UNKNOWN]: Who are the people that you emulated toward?
- 1:25:02[UNKNOWN]: And it might be fashion, it might be story-liner content, but what comes to mind for you?
- 1:25:08[UNKNOWN]: Superman, because, you know, his dying message to the X-ray, you heat fish it into the moon, do good, and every man can be a Superman, that resonated with me.
- 1:25:19[UNKNOWN]: Captain America, for much the same reason, really White Hat,
- 1:25:23[UNKNOWN]: good guys with good morals, you know, they existed to help people.
- 1:25:27[UNKNOWN]: They wouldn't back down a batman before he went dark.
- 1:25:31[UNKNOWN]: I mean, I used to I had a box a shoe box when I was a kid of soil samples from around the neighborhood, so that if there was a crime committed, I could find out where it was committed.
- 1:25:42[UNKNOWN]: I also had weather maps in there for some reason.
- 1:25:46[UNKNOWN]: Oh, you were you were in psychopedia Brown.
- 1:25:49[UNKNOWN]: The thing is, is that I don't know what happened with the box.
- 1:25:52[UNKNOWN]: I could just picture my mother at some point, find you didn't go ahead.
- 1:25:55[UNKNOWN]: Well, she wouldn't use profanity, but what the hell is this?
- 1:25:58[UNKNOWN]: But yeah, so those are the three care.
- 1:26:00[UNKNOWN]: Who's Spider-Man to a certain extent?
- 1:26:02[UNKNOWN]: Except I, I, I, I was older when I was reading Spider-Man.
- 1:26:06[UNKNOWN]: I always kind of figured, you know, I could, I could do life better than Spider-Man.
- 1:26:10[UNKNOWN]: You know, a lot of his problems were, were self-inflicted.
- 1:26:13[UNKNOWN]: Then I saw myself and I'm not sure.
- 1:26:15[UNKNOWN]: I mean, I can certainly remember who were the characters that made a big impact on me, and which were, I mean, I loved the Batman TV show, but my favorite on the TV show was background.
- 1:26:28[UNKNOWN]: She was, I sent her a Christmas card every year.
- 1:26:30[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, I'm here.
- 1:26:31[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
- 1:26:33[UNKNOWN]: I imagine we both got to know her through conventions and things like that.
- 1:26:36[UNKNOWN]: Per and Mary, yeah.
- 1:26:37[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, and like, you know, I even got to like, I sat next to her at San Diego one year.
- 1:26:42[UNKNOWN]: The, my then came the Wonder Woman TV show.
- 1:26:44[UNKNOWN]: That was my favorite.
- 1:26:46[UNKNOWN]: I know the first superhero comic book I ever bought with my own money was an issue of Wonder Woman, you know?
- 1:26:52[UNKNOWN]: It was a very suggestive cover.
- 1:26:56[UNKNOWN]: I'm sorry, what was that during the era when Robert Canninger was editing and writing the book?
- 1:27:01[UNKNOWN]: No, no, no.
- 1:27:02[UNKNOWN]: This is a problem.
- 1:27:04[UNKNOWN]: I mean, this is when the TV show was on, so this would have been about 1970.
- 1:27:06[UNKNOWN]: Okay.
- 1:27:09[UNKNOWN]: 37 probably, you know, it was a Jose Luis Garcia Lopez cover, but yeah, you know, but then certainly, you know, you mentioned Superman, he still, he still remains one of my absolute favorites.
- 1:27:18[UNKNOWN]: I, that was what really got me reading comics and I still love the old golden age Superman stuff myself, but characters I saw myself and I don't know, I, that's a, I just, I just can think of the ones that made a big impact on the early on that led me down the road to comics.
- 1:27:31[UNKNOWN]: Do you want to talk about your relationship with little orphan Annie and all I drew it, yeah, yeah, just anything you want to share I this this is comes as a great disappointment to the any fans who come up to me, but I never had a real interest in a little orphan Annie.
- 1:27:45[UNKNOWN]: I I you know, it's like.
- 1:27:46[UNKNOWN]: I went after the job to try to sell my own strip.
- 1:27:52[UNKNOWN]: You know, I'd heard Leonard Starwist retiring and I figured, okay, I'm going to try out for Annie.
- 1:27:56[UNKNOWN]: There's no way they're ever going to give me Annie, but at least I can be syndicate people to try to sell my own strip some on an age X as an newspaper strip.
- 1:28:02[UNKNOWN]: Low would be hope they gave me a little orphan Annie.
- 1:28:04[UNKNOWN]: So, you know, which I did, I drew the strip.
- 1:28:07[UNKNOWN]: I redesigned the strip and I drew it for about a year.
- 1:28:09[UNKNOWN]: But yeah, it's not like I was a little girl into the musical.
- 1:28:13[UNKNOWN]: Although, you know, I wasn't musicals,
- 1:28:16[UNKNOWN]: I love little orphaning.
- 1:28:19[UNKNOWN]: I have a queer sister who is a little autistic and she would watch like the same movie every summer growing up a hundred times It was always a different movie, but once I wrote the sound of music and one summer was Annie, so I like I've seen that That film 10 million times in a row
- 1:28:33[UNKNOWN]: Let's talk a little bit about the coming-out process.
- 1:28:37[UNKNOWN]: Whatever you guys would like to share here is great.
- 1:28:39[UNKNOWN]: I identified as a straight, cisgender ban for a long time before coming out as gay at the age of 32.
- 1:28:45[UNKNOWN]: I have two children.
- 1:28:46[UNKNOWN]: My oldest child came out as gay born biologically male.
- 1:28:49[UNKNOWN]: It became out as gay at 12 and came out as gendered on conforming at 16.
- 1:28:53[UNKNOWN]: It's a process and I work as a therapist with people who are navigating this process.
- 1:28:58[UNKNOWN]: Do you want to talk a little bit about your journey with identity?
- 1:29:01[UNKNOWN]: And again, whatever you'd like to share here is great.
- 1:29:04[UNKNOWN]: Let's go Jenny and then Margo again.
- 1:29:05[UNKNOWN]: Not being the sharpest tool.
- 1:29:07[UNKNOWN]: It took me an awful long time to realize I was trans.
- 1:29:10[UNKNOWN]: It was a process.
- 1:29:11[UNKNOWN]: You know, I always had an affinity for the outsider characters in comics.
- 1:29:15[UNKNOWN]: It took the role of my wanting to work on black characters because my first black friends were comic book fans.
- 1:29:21[UNKNOWN]: And I just thought it was unfair that there weren't more characters for them.
- 1:29:24[UNKNOWN]: I tried to be inclusive.
- 1:29:26[UNKNOWN]: I mean, my definition of inclusivity and comics is that all of our readers should be able to see themselves respectively treated in our comics started hanging out at, you know, went to the flaming river con to show support.
- 1:29:41[UNKNOWN]: I had gay friends in the comics industry, but once it is Cleveland convention, it's the most brilliant name for a gay convention.
- 1:29:48[UNKNOWN]: I've ever heard because of course, Cleveland had the Kaihoga River, which would catch on fire every few years.
- 1:29:53[UNKNOWN]: And so to have a con based in Cleveland, a queer convention based in Cleveland called the flaming river con.
- 1:29:59[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, there was no way I was not going to go there.
- 1:30:02[UNKNOWN]: There's a queer conference in New York every summer I go to called flame con.
- 1:30:05[UNKNOWN]: It's wonderful.
- 1:30:07[UNKNOWN]: So, you know, I got to meet people and everything, and I felt I'd always had, I mean, I'd cross trust for a while, but I did just for relaxation purposes, I didn't think there was anything to it.
- 1:30:17[UNKNOWN]: And then, you know, like I crossed stress when I was an editor at Marvel, just because I was the youngest editor at Marvel, and I had a ridiculous workload, and I had always be careful because people were trying to take advantage of me because they knew I'd grown up on their comics.
- 1:30:32[UNKNOWN]: left Marvel.
- 1:30:33[UNKNOWN]: It was like 20 years before I took it up again.
- 1:30:36[UNKNOWN]: Then I was having some stressful times at home and so I took it up again and then put it aside for 20 years.
- 1:30:41[UNKNOWN]: But then at some point you know stress returned I was you know I was meeting new gay friends and everything started hanging out with them.
- 1:30:49[UNKNOWN]: And then there was a convention that I suddenly realized, you know, the reason you feel so comfortable around queer people is that you're one of them.
- 1:30:58[UNKNOWN]: And it took me a while to narrowed it onto to what kind of queer person I was.
- 1:31:02[UNKNOWN]: Certainly having been married for, you know, being married for over 40 years, being 72 years old.
- 1:31:08[UNKNOWN]: that was not something that easily came to me once I realized, okay, you know, you're pretty, it's pretty clear that your trans took the step to to start gender affirming therapy.
- 1:31:20[UNKNOWN]: I mean, it didn't start out as gender affirming therapy.
- 1:31:22[UNKNOWN]: It was like, let's find out what it is.
- 1:31:24[UNKNOWN]: The first question I was asked was, do you want bottom surgery?
- 1:31:27[UNKNOWN]: I said, yes, so fast that that my penis screamed in agony.
- 1:31:33[UNKNOWN]: Which is weird because that's like at the bottom of my list right now, but no, I mean, and then as I went through therapy, I started HRT in 2023 and as the process has continued, you know, I'm more and more absolutely convinced that yes, Jenny is who I am and when people say, well, you know,
- 1:31:55[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, and I like to throw in some terminology for my listeners who are navigating this process on their own for the first time.
- 1:32:00[UNKNOWN]: So I like to when I'm working with clients divide this up and you guys are my clients, you're my friends, but I like to divide this up into three categories.
- 1:32:07[UNKNOWN]: There's the idea of gender expression, which is the way that I portray myself to the world.
- 1:32:14[UNKNOWN]: So if I'm identifying as a man, but wearing women's clothing, that's often called cross dressing.
- 1:32:19[UNKNOWN]: And it's often seen as like an aberration.
- 1:32:21[UNKNOWN]: It's the way of presenting our birth gender with this style that we're presenting to the world.
- 1:32:27[UNKNOWN]: Both of those are different from what we'd call gender identity, which is how my insights match my outsides my kid as a gender non-conforming person doesn't ascribe with either gender, even though society expects them to do so in certain ways, right?
- 1:32:39[UNKNOWN]: And as we are in transition transition means a lot of things because we're different people at different times as we grow and create safety for ourselves.
- 1:32:47[UNKNOWN]: So, Jenny, I see you as the absolute is the fucking super hero.
- 1:32:50[UNKNOWN]: I celebrate your journey.
- 1:32:52[UNKNOWN]: So, so far, thank you for your money.
- 1:32:54[UNKNOWN]: Thank you very much, as I said, it was a process, but but it always felt right, there came a time, you know, a few months after I started HRT that I could finally look into mirror and see Jenny and you know, it's just continued from there.
- 1:33:09[UNKNOWN]: I, because of my age, people think I know something.
- 1:33:12[UNKNOWN]: In fact, I've been referred to as an iconic trans granny.
- 1:33:16[UNKNOWN]: And I think you wouldn't know really, I'm just a trans baby, but I'm fortunate in that my being open about my journey, my writing about the journey has helped people.
- 1:33:26[UNKNOWN]: And again, you know, I'm somebody who was raised on Superman and Captain America and Batman before he went toxic that that's right to my will host that that to me is is a good use of my life and and talents.
- 1:33:38[UNKNOWN]: looking back, you know, I can now see that this has been there, you know, that I was there this whole time, I just didn't know it.
- 1:33:45[UNKNOWN]: I didn't recognize it.
- 1:33:46[UNKNOWN]: And like there was something that happened when I was 10 years old that, you know, like I asked my mom if I could take belly classes.
- 1:33:55[UNKNOWN]: Now it wasn't so much that I wanted to take belly classes.
- 1:33:59[UNKNOWN]: as I wanted, it was the earliest thing I could think of, could wear tights, which was also the earliest thing, another one of the earliest things I could think of.
- 1:34:07[UNKNOWN]: So it was my little 10 year old way of trying to somehow get there without knowing what I was doing, because when we're talking 1979 in small town, Michigan, the idea of anyone being trans,
- 1:34:18[UNKNOWN]: You know, at that point, you know, was just like not something I certainly had ever heard of and probably most people around me had not heard of.
- 1:34:22[UNKNOWN]: So so it's just sort of something that was there.
- 1:34:23[UNKNOWN]: Now I, it was also my first example of chickening out because my mom actually did find a way for me to do this in a small conservative town in Michigan.
- 1:34:26[UNKNOWN]: But I was, would, would, would, would, would, would, would, would, would, would, would, would, would, would, would, would, would, would, would, would, would, would, would, would, would, would, would, would, would, would, would, would, would, would, would, would, would, would, would, would, would, would, would, would, would, would, would, would, would, would, would, would, would, would, would, would, would, would, would, would, would, would, would, would, would, would, would, would,
- 1:34:36[UNKNOWN]: But I was like, no, no, no, no, no.
- 1:34:37[UNKNOWN]: So it was my first example of putting it away.
- 1:34:40[UNKNOWN]: Which is what I did over and over again through my life whenever anything would come up, there would sort of be getting me out to that point.
- 1:34:47[UNKNOWN]: And I mean, there were times I could do stuff.
- 1:34:49[UNKNOWN]: Like, I was a teenager in the mid 80s.
- 1:34:52[UNKNOWN]: I was, and so therefore I could be a boy and wearing makeup because everyone was in love with Simon Lebanham and Adam Ant.
- 1:34:58[UNKNOWN]: Get David Belly eat your heart out, right?
- 1:35:01[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, you know, and so I literally was the first little punk rock new wave kid in Holland, Michigan, you know, showed up on on homecoming week freshman year 1983.
- 1:35:11[UNKNOWN]: Just sort of overnight made you know borrowed moms make up or made my own blue lipstick out of Vaseline and food coloring and went, you know, went to school on class, you know, homecoming week clash day where you're supposed to work close to class, but I decided it was the clash day.
- 1:35:25[UNKNOWN]: you know, suddenly girls were talking to me, you know, and so I like the music.
- 1:35:29[UNKNOWN]: I like the look and girls started talking to me, so I, so that'd be just sort of kept going.
- 1:35:33[UNKNOWN]: And I, and I got to go to school with long strings of pearls, and I got to go to the girls department and buy paisley shirts and a little white granny boots because that was the fashion, you know, but I, but I, but I, I still didn't quite make that leap.
- 1:35:46[UNKNOWN]: And like I said, you know, but over time, there, there, there would be something that I didn't quite figure out.
- 1:35:51[UNKNOWN]: But then,
- 1:35:51[UNKNOWN]: early last year, I had some dreams where I have some very, very vivid dreams where I really felt like I was a woman.
- 1:35:59[UNKNOWN]: I mentioned this to one of my partner's jewels, and she was, you know, and no, no, jewels is a therapist, but she's not my therapist.
- 1:36:07[UNKNOWN]: She's my girlfriend, but, you know, she's sort of, you know, she was like, well, have you ever felt that way other times?
- 1:36:11[UNKNOWN]: And I was like, well, there was this time, that time, and this other time, and yet this other time, oh yeah,
- 1:36:18[UNKNOWN]: I could press a button and become a woman and she was like, I think you should talk to your therapist about that because you know, I never occurred to me that not every every guy just sort of wish they could press a button and be and be a woman.
- 1:36:31[UNKNOWN]: And so I did I did talk to my I did talk my therapist and we spent some time examining it and being trans was not the first thing we came to but that's.
- 1:36:39[UNKNOWN]: Little by little, I figured that out.
- 1:36:40[UNKNOWN]: I figured out who I was.
- 1:36:41[UNKNOWN]: I figured out the depth that it's like, no, that I had been sort of masking that side of myself and hiding that side of myself for myself for years.
- 1:36:50[UNKNOWN]: It also tied it with me also figuring out that I was autistic to some degree.
- 1:36:54[UNKNOWN]: Um, and that I had much, much like many other things in my life.
- 1:36:58[UNKNOWN]: I had so normalized many of these feelings and things.
- 1:37:01[UNKNOWN]: It weren't typically, you know, weren't typical.
- 1:37:03[UNKNOWN]: That I just sort of, it just, I never made that little connection.
- 1:37:08[UNKNOWN]: It was like, oh, I'm trans.
- 1:37:09[UNKNOWN]: And, you know, it's like until finally I until finally I did.
- 1:37:13[UNKNOWN]: And then I was just like, okay, this all makes a lot of sense.
- 1:37:16[UNKNOWN]: And I just sort of totally gone for it.
- 1:37:18[UNKNOWN]: Coming up for me with like coming up for oxygen and like how can you not breathe again when you finally give yourself room to breathe.
- 1:37:25[UNKNOWN]: I do this as a therapist.
- 1:37:26[UNKNOWN]: I work with people who are coming out and it's my favorite thing seeing people become who they were always supposed to be, you know.
- 1:37:32[UNKNOWN]: But even frequent guests of my show as I've made the show over the last four years, there's been people who've been at various stages of their transition along their own journey and have like grown more comfortable in their skin.
- 1:37:41[UNKNOWN]: It's such a beautiful thing to see and I'm just I'm thrilled you're both here.
- 1:37:45[UNKNOWN]: How do the two of you know each other?
- 1:37:47[UNKNOWN]: We probably met at a convention decades ago, you know, I feel like yeah, I feel like I know you know Margot went you know before she adopted the name Margot for I'm thinking 20 or more years.
- 1:38:00[UNKNOWN]: Oh, more like more like 30 years
- 1:38:03[UNKNOWN]: I mean, you, you, I think I met you early on very early on in my career and I'm now it, this is my 36 year doing this so I may have known you for 35 years.
- 1:38:12[UNKNOWN]: I mean, you know, we, you know, we hit it off.
- 1:38:14[UNKNOWN]: I remember, you know, we've had conversations about, you know, old comics that that, you know, I mean really old even older than us.
- 1:38:22[UNKNOWN]: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, I love the album.
- 1:38:24[UNKNOWN]: So yeah, as this, you know, we hit it off.
- 1:38:26[UNKNOWN]: Always glad to see you at conventions.
- 1:38:28[UNKNOWN]: You know, I'm hoping, you know, I'm hoping that, you know, well, when I go to GFest, you know, we're going to get together.
- 1:38:34[UNKNOWN]: We've started talking about that and I want to work with you.
- 1:38:37[UNKNOWN]: And we've talked about that a little bit, but I can't really talk about that at this point.
- 1:38:42[UNKNOWN]: Right, right, I mean, but we've been talking, you know, hopefully this works because yeah, we've been talking about working together for over 30 years.
- 1:38:47[UNKNOWN]: Oh, yeah, yeah, and, you know, and it's just, you know, I, because, you know, I took long stretches off from being really active in comics.
- 1:38:55[UNKNOWN]: I had a comic book store, you know, there were other things that, you know, would take a big chunk to my time.
- 1:39:01[UNKNOWN]: Uh, but now, you know, I'm, you know, I, I don't, you know, my kids are grown, so I'm not a stay at home dad.
- 1:39:06[UNKNOWN]: You know, I don't have the comic book store anymore.
- 1:39:11[UNKNOWN]: It's actually going to get out there, but but I literally created, you know, a new universe of comics characters that the premise for the universe is something I have never seen in comics before and I think if I can get it out there people will be really interested in us.
- 1:39:27[UNKNOWN]: I'm so excited to see more.
- 1:39:28[UNKNOWN]: I know you've been making some announcements and I know we're kind of waiting at real time as fans of yours to see what's going to happen.
- 1:39:33[UNKNOWN]: But, uh, excellent.
- 1:39:35[UNKNOWN]: Um, okay.
- 1:39:35[UNKNOWN]: I'm going to ask you both just some simple questions and I'm going to go back and forth.
- 1:39:39[UNKNOWN]: Whatever tangents we went up went up on are okay.
- 1:39:41[UNKNOWN]: So we don't class you first in the Jenny.
- 1:39:43[UNKNOWN]: If you have any comments on Margo's answer, please.
- 1:39:45[UNKNOWN]: Okay.
- 1:39:45[UNKNOWN]: as Jenny the next one.
- 1:39:47[UNKNOWN]: Margo Betty or Veronica.
- 1:39:49[UNKNOWN]: Why?
- 1:39:49[UNKNOWN]: I think she seems like a much nicer person hang out with on a regular basis and she's she's cute or um so you know I at least to me you know so you know what I mean I I do a lot of archie work so I'm happy to I'm happy to draw either of them but but if I if I had a picture
- 1:40:07[UNKNOWN]: between the two I picked Betty, but if I really had my option of the R.C.
- 1:40:10[UNKNOWN]: universe I picked Josie.
- 1:40:12[UNKNOWN]: Okay.
- 1:40:13[UNKNOWN]: Cheryl Blossom.
- 1:40:14[UNKNOWN]: Who does it love the bad girl?
- 1:40:15[UNKNOWN]: I was like the rocker girls, you know, the punk, you know, I, Josie strikes me more like, you know, the, you know, the, you know, almost like punk before they were punk.
- 1:40:27[UNKNOWN]: Oh, Josie, Josie resonates with me because I look at Frank Doyle, who wrote all the pretty pussycast, each use of Josie and most of the ones I have to
- 1:40:36[UNKNOWN]: Uh, he's like the Neil Simon of comic, you know, his sense of dialogue, you know, I was constantly amazed at how he can get, you know, a store, a fun story with a good punchline and five pages.
- 1:40:47[UNKNOWN]: So, uh, but yeah, for me, it's Sheryl Blossom, you know, he'll hurt me.
- 1:40:52[UNKNOWN]: She'll hurt me.
- 1:40:52[UNKNOWN]: There's no doubt about this, but, you know, the heart wants what the heart wants.
- 1:40:56[UNKNOWN]: Uh, Jenny, Juggernaut, receiver tooth, Juggernaut.
- 1:40:59[UNKNOWN]: Why?
- 1:40:59[UNKNOWN]: Because I like the movie version of Jeff, you know, I, juggernaut as a character I've seen in recent years.
- 1:41:05[UNKNOWN]: I thought, well, you know, he could be a decent human being.
- 1:41:09[UNKNOWN]: And they've shown him as a decent human being.
- 1:41:11[UNKNOWN]: Saber two, you know, Saber two, just struck me, struck me as another one of these crazy, maradine, slashing killer characters.
- 1:41:19[UNKNOWN]: I don't find that as interesting as I do juggernaut who clearly was in the shadow of his brother or his step brother, you know, got involved with the mystic stuff.
- 1:41:29[UNKNOWN]: uh, has shown an opportunity, you know, he's shown that he can be a better person.
- 1:41:34[UNKNOWN]: I'm a big fan of redemption stories, uh, you know, Stanley used to tell us, you know, there's good and evil in everybody.
- 1:41:40[UNKNOWN]: And, of course, he was talking about characters, but that also applies to many people I know in the comics industry.
- 1:41:47[UNKNOWN]: Um, Margo, Debbie Harry, or Stephen X.
- 1:41:50[UNKNOWN]: Well, first I'm going to comment on, um, please, thank you for getting to wait for comments.
- 1:41:54[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, which would be, you know, I'm going to say saber choose, but only because one of the few that oddly enough, there are several comic professionals that all came from my same small town of Holland, Michigan, but none of us knew each other back then.
- 1:42:09[UNKNOWN]: René Gierlings, who you used to be an editor at Top Cow, and still is an editor here and there in the business, is marriage to the actor who played saber choose.
- 1:42:17[UNKNOWN]: Oh, that is, that is my only reason for saying say for two.
- 1:42:19[UNKNOWN]: Is that Tyler Maine?
- 1:42:21[UNKNOWN]: Uh, yes.
- 1:42:21[UNKNOWN]: I just met Tyler in a convention last year.
- 1:42:23[UNKNOWN]: What a lovely guy.
- 1:42:24[UNKNOWN]: Okay.
- 1:42:25[UNKNOWN]: If you met, if you met his wife, that is Renee.
- 1:42:28[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, Renee, Renee and I are from the same small town, but we just didn't know each other at same time.
- 1:42:33[UNKNOWN]: Okay.
- 1:42:34[UNKNOWN]: Anyway, you asked about Debbie Harry which Debbie Harry or Stephen X. I definitely Debbie Harry.
- 1:42:39[UNKNOWN]: Definitely Debbie Harry.
- 1:42:40[UNKNOWN]: I love blondies since I was in fourth grade.
- 1:42:42[UNKNOWN]: Debbie Harry still makes me go to all the time.
- 1:42:46[UNKNOWN]: You know, if I see the pictures or even just see her in live, which I did finally get to see her a couple years ago.
- 1:42:52[UNKNOWN]: And she's, you know, she's like 80 years old.
- 1:42:55[UNKNOWN]: And she's still up there on stage.
- 1:42:56[UNKNOWN]: And still put it on a good show.
- 1:42:58[UNKNOWN]: and there's comics tied into it too because one of the things in her backdrop was a covered by Dan Parrot from an Archie comic that she was using as the backdrop director during Blondie's performance so it all ties together girls and comics.
- 1:43:12[UNKNOWN]: If I had to pick just between those two would be Debbie Harry, but if you widened Gaga, I love, I love me some Gaga, Jenny Jean Colin or Carmen and Fentino, Jean Colin, I love both their work of both, but Jean was, you know, and, and I was, you know, I knew Carmine, we got along, but Jean was just he was a giant talent and a wonderful human being.
- 1:43:34[UNKNOWN]: This was love too.
- 1:43:36[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, yeah, I wish I'd gotten more of a chance to work with Jean, but every time I worked with him, it was a great experience.
- 1:43:42[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, no, I will answer the same question the same way Jean definitely Jean, you know, I didn't, I didn't get to work with Jean, but I, I tried to work with Jean.
- 1:43:52[UNKNOWN]: Back in the 90s, I worked with a small, short-lived, independent company, they'd asked me to hire some people to do some, uh, some pin-ups.
- 1:44:00[UNKNOWN]: And I think, and I think they were thinking I'd go to some of the hot, young names in the business.
- 1:44:04[UNKNOWN]: And instead, I went to Jean and Gilcane, and got Steve Dickco's phone number, and
- 1:44:10[UNKNOWN]: You know, it was going to like ask them all if I could do stuff and unfortunately the company went in and out of business so fast that never happened.
- 1:44:17[UNKNOWN]: But I remember I was up at Jeans table one time talking to Jean and Adrian and telling them how I wish I could have been seen because I just I loved Jeans stuff.
- 1:44:27[UNKNOWN]: And Gene's just got his head down, you know, work out on stuff, but you can tell he's listening.
- 1:44:31[UNKNOWN]: And Adrian, you know, listening to the story, just like, looks at me and like reaches into the support folio and pulls out this un-inch page by Gene Cole and it hands it to me.
- 1:44:38[UNKNOWN]: And she's like, here, in Gene, it just gave it to me.
- 1:44:41[UNKNOWN]: Wow, that's so great.
- 1:44:44[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, it turns out it's a page from night force number one.
- 1:44:47[UNKNOWN]: So I don't know why it was not inked on the boards, but apparently it wasn't.
- 1:44:51[UNKNOWN]: And yeah, you know, but yeah, I know I did get to in Gene
- 1:44:57[UNKNOWN]: Last year, every year they have the Joe Senate inking challenge where a number of anchors all try to ink the same piece and then they auctioned it off to benefit the ink well awards and last year was a piece pencil by Jean so I did finally get to take take a stab it in King Jean Margot Jean Gray or Madeline prior, Jean Gray, great, great, great.
- 1:45:17[UNKNOWN]: I mean, they expanded her character too much in her powers, I mean, because it's always this faction in the comics industry that thinks more powerful is actually character development.
- 1:45:28[UNKNOWN]: And I don't subscribe to that, but yeah, you know, I like Jean, you know, from the moment I saw her in X-Men, I was creeped out when Professor Xavier was having naughty thoughts about her.
- 1:45:37[UNKNOWN]: Thank God, they got rid of that quickly, at least I think they did, who knows what what they might have brought up in recent years.
- 1:45:43[UNKNOWN]: Well, yeah, I would say Jean Cray, Gray, Madeleine prior, struck me as, hey, you know, Jean's gone, we need somebody for Scott.
- 1:45:50[UNKNOWN]: And I just never warmed a Madeleine prior.
- 1:45:52[UNKNOWN]: I guess I started reading X-Men just on the lead up to the Dark Phoenix saga, so, you know, she certainly made an impression on me, you know, speaking of the bad girls.
- 1:46:02[UNKNOWN]: Oh, Jenny, secret wars or the contest of champions.
- 1:46:07[UNKNOWN]: Oh, secret wars was a piece of shit.
- 1:46:10[UNKNOWN]: It was one of the worst written comics ever.
- 1:46:13[UNKNOWN]: The artists were hamstrung by the script and editorial overreach.
- 1:46:18[UNKNOWN]: Contest of championios, just three issues.
- 1:46:21[UNKNOWN]: It was supposed to be like an Olympic special that they didn't repurpose.
- 1:46:25[UNKNOWN]: And I thought, Contest of champions.
- 1:46:27[UNKNOWN]: was a lot better.
- 1:46:28[UNKNOWN]: The characters in secret wars were not in character.
- 1:46:32[UNKNOWN]: Most of the time, in championship, you know, conscious champions had all these new characters and the existing characters were in character and I just think it was, you know, it was a more fun book than secret wars.
- 1:46:43[UNKNOWN]: I'll have to say conscious of champions because I never rent secret wars.
- 1:46:47[UNKNOWN]: I did recontest the champions, so I can't remember much of anything about it, but I, I seem to vaguely
- 1:46:53[UNKNOWN]: Okay, I got three more.
- 1:46:55[UNKNOWN]: Margo, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles or the Transformers.
- 1:46:58[UNKNOWN]: Teenage Mutant Turtles.
- 1:47:00[UNKNOWN]: I have said that I did an ever-a-true cartoon for Comics Buyers Guide where I used the phrase Teenage Mutant Ninja.
- 1:47:07[UNKNOWN]: I was, you know, clearly one word away from becoming a multimillionaire.
- 1:47:12[UNKNOWN]: But even with that, you know, heartbreak.
- 1:47:15[UNKNOWN]: I would say the turtles.
- 1:47:17[UNKNOWN]: I just, you know, just a raw interest of Eastman and Laird, you know, that they just, you know, this is something they want to do.
- 1:47:23[UNKNOWN]: They were having fun with it.
- 1:47:24[UNKNOWN]: Clearly, at the start, they didn't expect to become the empire of the cave.
- 1:47:28[UNKNOWN]: But yeah, I would go with turtles.
- 1:47:30[UNKNOWN]: My kids liked them when they were growing up.
- 1:47:32[UNKNOWN]: They're good characters, they're fun.
- 1:47:33[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, I know as a teenager, I was reading it, you know, like from I think the the second issue on, you know, so I mean, you know, and then I got I later got to work on it, too, when Eric Larson was publishing turtles through image, I did it for a little while in the 90s.
- 1:47:47[UNKNOWN]: I mean, though I've done some transformers comics as well.
- 1:47:50[UNKNOWN]: uh... margot uh... dazzler or jubilee dazzler i mean that was like the second issue of xman i ever bought you know that making a pressure on me you know that cover she looked she looked so good in that shiny silver suit i have to say i mean dazzler i love because it was such an exciting example no pun intended of comics being late getting on to a uh... pop culture bandwagon and that again the costume was sensational
- 1:48:15[UNKNOWN]: Jubilee, I like, but you know why she was, she had vampire still, I mean, again, they keep taking characters away from their, you know, it's from their basic concepts.
- 1:48:26[UNKNOWN]: She was a, she was a vampire and then a single mom but now she's back to being good old Jubilee again.
- 1:48:32[UNKNOWN]: She didn't get rid of her.
- 1:48:33[UNKNOWN]: She tells a kid, right?
- 1:48:34[UNKNOWN]: Because her kid moved to, you know, the Captain Britain land, other world, where it's okay.
- 1:48:39[UNKNOWN]: Very land, her kid got transformed into a dragon and is living very happily in other worlds.
- 1:48:46[UNKNOWN]: Well, if Marvel or DC ever asked me to write for them again, I mean, I need an editor who could explain all this stuff to me.
- 1:48:54[UNKNOWN]: I'm your continuity guy.
- 1:48:55[UNKNOWN]: I'm here for you.
- 1:48:56[UNKNOWN]: It makes my head hurt.
- 1:48:58[UNKNOWN]: Okay, my last one before we move on.
- 1:49:00[UNKNOWN]: The more locks or the hellfire club, the hellfire club.
- 1:49:03[UNKNOWN]: But that's at least partially because of Diana Rig.
- 1:49:07[UNKNOWN]: Well, yes.
- 1:49:08[UNKNOWN]: I was about to say the same thing.
- 1:49:10[UNKNOWN]: I guess I could ask Selena Emma Frost then.
- 1:49:14[UNKNOWN]: Emma Frost.
- 1:49:15[UNKNOWN]: I mean, again, I like the bad girls.
- 1:49:17[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, especially the bad girls that you think you can change, you know, I can I can make them better.
- 1:49:23[UNKNOWN]: Probably one of the ways that I knew I was a woman because I think I can change people.
- 1:49:29[UNKNOWN]: I started reading the X-Men with the original series reprints, because probably right around the time I was getting into comics, they brought back amazing adventures and were reprinting a half an issue of X-Men each issue.
- 1:49:42[UNKNOWN]: And so that was, you know, like,
- 1:49:44[UNKNOWN]: I picked up one of those and I was like, oh, hey, this is interesting.
- 1:49:46[UNKNOWN]: So I picked up a few horses that.
- 1:49:48[UNKNOWN]: And so I remember then picking up, I think it was Xman 132 because I started in the town that I lived in, you could be the issues were showing up all out of order.
- 1:49:57[UNKNOWN]: And so I got 132 before I got 130.
- 1:49:59[UNKNOWN]: I remember picking up 132 and being very confused as to who all these other characters that were supposedly Xman work.
- 1:50:05[UNKNOWN]: Because I'm going, where's Angel and Beast and you know, who's this blue guy, but yeah, I guess I got in right at a good time because that's the beginning of the whole dark Phoenix thing and it was, you know, the the grand epic and and so I I.
- 1:50:20[UNKNOWN]: You know, I certainly was enjoying that period of X-Men.
- 1:50:23[UNKNOWN]: And I read it through the Dave Kong period, through the Paul Smith period, and probably somewhere around in the middle of the journey to junior stuff that came after that is when I was sort of cutting back on a lot of superhero comics and starting to buy a lot more independence and things like that and black and white stuff.
- 1:50:40[UNKNOWN]: You know, and then I got, you know, obviously got back involved in the X-Men a few years later, when I was actually working in comics and some of the first works I did at Marvel,
- 1:50:48[UNKNOWN]: We all three of us have a deep love for the classics.
- 1:50:51[UNKNOWN]: I love this little rage stuff that was always where I felt my sweet spot as not only as a fan like I'm a deep continuity nerd, but even as a as the handbook guy I wanted to always go back and like source the stuff from the beginning.
- 1:51:03[UNKNOWN]: My final question today is going to be a little bit more sobering and you can craft your answer however you like.
- 1:51:08[UNKNOWN]: My show's made a lot of room for just talking about the reality of daily existence in 2026, we're creating a lot of joy but we're also being very real about how heavy the world feels and what a crazy time to be in transition at the same time, you know.
- 1:51:21[UNKNOWN]: I found my kid getting a little emotional the other day and I got to check with them.
- 1:51:26[UNKNOWN]: Make sure they're okay.
- 1:51:27[UNKNOWN]: It would be telling the story but I
- 1:51:29[UNKNOWN]: I was like, are you okay?
- 1:51:29[UNKNOWN]: And they're like, you know, when I was identifying is gay, the world was already hard.
- 1:51:33[UNKNOWN]: But now being gendered on conforming, it feels 10 times harder.
- 1:51:36[UNKNOWN]: And I'm like, wait, wait, wait, wait.
- 1:51:37[UNKNOWN]: You've always been exactly who you are.
- 1:51:39[UNKNOWN]: Now you're just learning how to create safety for yourself, right?
- 1:51:41[UNKNOWN]: But, but it's, it's so heavy to watch the oppression happening around us.
- 1:51:46[UNKNOWN]: How are you guys getting by in 2026?
- 1:51:48[UNKNOWN]: And do you have advice for people who, uh, who may just need a little extra word of
- 1:51:56[UNKNOWN]: I was gonna, I was gonna say let's go Jenny first because she's been out longer than me.
- 1:52:01[UNKNOWN]: I mean, every day I see some new horrible thing happening and I just can't understand the evil and viciousness of people.
- 1:52:11[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, I will never understand the bully.
- 1:52:12[UNKNOWN]: That's something I say on my show often.
- 1:52:14[UNKNOWN]: When I came out, it went kind of crazy.
- 1:52:18[UNKNOWN]: I sort of thought, okay, I'm gonna change my info on Facebook and Instagram, and then I'm gonna do a little post.
- 1:52:24[UNKNOWN]: I had some pictures that I got and taken for this, and I just sort of figured I'm gonna do that, and the email, I don't list people to email directly to tell, okay, here's what's going on.
- 1:52:33[UNKNOWN]: And then I decided I'd sit down on my drawing board and get back to work, and I did not expect it to blow up like it did, you know, with like 20th, I usually do a post and get like 20 to 100
- 1:52:45[UNKNOWN]: 20,000 likes, over 2,000 comments, like 120,000 views, it wasn't looking for that.
- 1:52:54[UNKNOWN]: I wasn't looking to have all that have.
- 1:52:56[UNKNOWN]: But I mean, it made me feel really, I mean, as negative as everything can be, it made me feel really good that out of those 2,000 comments really 10 bad ones.
- 1:53:05[UNKNOWN]: So no matter what my fears were, and no matter how bad I thought this might go, it didn't go as badly as I fear.
- 1:53:11[UNKNOWN]: So maybe the lesson to be learned from that is if you are thinking about coming out, maybe it won't go as badly as you think it is, because I know I certainly was expecting all sorts of doom and gloom and certainly there were some bad reactions out there from different people.
- 1:53:24[UNKNOWN]: But not many, and overall everyone's been very welcoming and encouraging, and I did my first convention out as Margot,
- 1:53:31[UNKNOWN]: a couple weeks ago, and so many people just wanted to come meet me just to sort of say congratulations and wishing me good luck.
- 1:53:39[UNKNOWN]: So I mean, yes, we could talk about all the doom and gloom.
- 1:53:41[UNKNOWN]: But let's also talk about, yeah, there's people out there who are rooting for you and want you to be happy that, and so yeah, maybe it won't be as bad as you think it is.
- 1:53:51[UNKNOWN]: Despite all the people out there, despite the fact that every week we seem to be adding a state to the
- 1:53:57[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, you're safety is important, everyone who's listening, but like just love yourself in creation of safety for yourself and others is just the biggest deal in these these world these days.
- 1:54:07[UNKNOWN]: So find those spaces, but it's worth the risk speaking as a person who's pretty happy living authentically rather than closeted.
- 1:54:13[UNKNOWN]: It makes a pretty big difference.
- 1:54:15[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, yeah, I'm I'm much I feel very very happy.
- 1:54:18[UNKNOWN]: People keep saying they haven't seen me seen this kind of smile on my face before.
- 1:54:22[UNKNOWN]: So, you know, it's it's
- 1:54:23[UNKNOWN]: It's, you know, I sometimes wonder was I just like looking so that miserable before, but I don't think so, but there's a different light to your eyes when you come out.
- 1:54:33[UNKNOWN]: Like as you're learning how to love yourself, not not that the panic in the trauma is not still there.
- 1:54:37[UNKNOWN]: We do, you know, we just aren't differently, but like there's a glow that shows up, I think.
- 1:54:42[UNKNOWN]: Jenny thoughts here.
- 1:54:43[UNKNOWN]: Well, they tell people my life is equal parts joy and terror, which quite frankly isn't that different from my 50 years in comics.
- 1:54:51[UNKNOWN]: I hate waking up every morning to find some new attack on the LGBTQ community, and especially trans people.
- 1:54:59[UNKNOWN]: The House of Representatives here in Ohio has passed a law, which if it gets by that, you know, if it gets passed by the Senate and signed by the governor,
- 1:55:06[UNKNOWN]: will make it illegal for me to wear, you know, the clothing I identify with to wear any kind of enhancements like, for example, breast forms, you know, and, and it's, it could be a felony, you know, depending on on the circumstance, it could be a felony.
- 1:55:21[UNKNOWN]: It started out as an anti drag law, which, you know, the more I looked at it, if I'm doing a panel at a convention as Jenny and I do all my conventions as Jenny now, that could be considered a drag show, you know,
- 1:55:35[UNKNOWN]: You know, so yeah, so that, you know, having to live with that every day.
- 1:55:39[UNKNOWN]: And of course, I get tremendous support from the comics community.
- 1:55:43[UNKNOWN]: I've been moved to tears by some of a firefighter who texts us up like I've spent 20 years going in the burning buildings and what you did as to brave as thing I've ever seen.
- 1:55:53[UNKNOWN]: You know, knowing that I've helped people that have inspired people, but they're always going to be losses.
- 1:55:58[UNKNOWN]: The first loss big loss I suffered and at this point I wasn't out to many people.
- 1:56:03[UNKNOWN]: I used to hang around with, you know, a gay couple, a lesbian couple and a trans woman.
- 1:56:09[UNKNOWN]: I think the lesbian couple was named Jackie and Diane, whichever use those names in a story.
- 1:56:14[UNKNOWN]: No one would, you know, they would go that, that couldn't be.
- 1:56:17[UNKNOWN]: Well, I was, I was probably going out with them like twice a month, the four of us.
- 1:56:22[UNKNOWN]: And when I came out as trans, they don't make they literally don't make the last people in the world, you know, I would have thought would have done that and I'm thinking what was their thinking.
- 1:56:31[UNKNOWN]: I never really knew what their thinking was unless they figured we already have a trans woman in the group so we don't need another one.
- 1:56:37[UNKNOWN]: Or maybe they just thought that their group was more complete with an old, you know, with as far as they knew an old white guy in the group, but yeah, that was that was a real surprise because I would not have seen that coming certainly, you know, family members who are not on board with it.
- 1:56:51[UNKNOWN]: I did see that company coming.
- 1:56:53[UNKNOWN]: I don't know where where that will end up.
- 1:56:55[UNKNOWN]: My philosophy of life these days is I do not expect a happy ending.
- 1:57:01[UNKNOWN]: I do not expect.
- 1:57:01[UNKNOWN]: I will reach my goals.
- 1:57:03[UNKNOWN]: I will not expect to be to have a happy ending.
- 1:57:06[UNKNOWN]: Again, I was raised by Superman and Captain America.
- 1:57:10[UNKNOWN]: It's not in me to surrender So I'm gonna keep writing stuff that I hope is meaningful.
- 1:57:15[UNKNOWN]: I'm gonna keep helping people when I can I'm gonna keep moving forward on on my transition I don't know if I don't even like the word transition that much because I feel like I've always been Jenny I just didn't know it
- 1:57:27[UNKNOWN]: And again, you know, if I had a boil down my philosophy for people, it's, you know, be good, you know, be kind, be brave, be yourself and literally every, you know, the old suitman thing every, you know, do good and every, every man can be a Superman, you know, it may be a kind of comic bookie mantra for life, but no, this is what happens when you've been in comic books since you were four years old.
- 1:57:51[UNKNOWN]: Again, I work as a therapist to do a lot of writing.
- 1:57:54[UNKNOWN]: One of the things I've really been landing on lately for myself is I only exist in this moment.
- 1:57:58[UNKNOWN]: The person I was at every moment before this was a version of me, but this is the only me that exists now.
- 1:58:04[UNKNOWN]: And the me that exists now has a relationship with my past self and a relationship with my future self.
- 1:58:09[UNKNOWN]: And I see a bright future.
- 1:58:10[UNKNOWN]: I'm trying to see a bright future.
- 1:58:12[UNKNOWN]: I think my children deserve for me to see a bright future, which means I gotta create it, but also be aware of the realities around me.
- 1:58:19[UNKNOWN]: I think, you know, people want us to cave in and I refuse to dim my light in any way.
- 1:58:25[UNKNOWN]: Uh, what a joy to connect with the both of you today.
- 1:58:27[UNKNOWN]: I'm so, you don't need this review and I'm so very proud of you for your authenticity and the way you're using your voices out there in the world.
- 1:58:34[UNKNOWN]: It's an active bravery to come out, but it's also an active bravery to show people that journey.
- 1:58:40[UNKNOWN]: Uh, so thank you for being, uh, allowing us to witness that piece of it.
- 1:58:44[UNKNOWN]: I want to what a joy to connect with you with you both today.
- 1:58:49[UNKNOWN]: that's where I hang it up.
- 1:58:52[UNKNOWN]: So as we're wrapping this up, we're going to put this up out at the beginning of June for Pride Month.
- 1:58:57[UNKNOWN]: Where can people find you if you'd like them to see your journey?
- 1:59:00[UNKNOWN]: And follow the show most easily at Graemoth and Under Score Lane on Instagram.
- 1:59:04[UNKNOWN]: I keep most of my own social media private because I've got kiddos.
- 1:59:07[UNKNOWN]: The two of you are connected with me on Facebook, obviously.
- 1:59:10[UNKNOWN]: My next original book is coming out in May.
- 1:59:14[UNKNOWN]: So it will be out at the time of this publication.
- 1:59:16[UNKNOWN]: It's beautiful.
- 1:59:16[UNKNOWN]: The reviews coming in are excellent.
- 1:59:19[UNKNOWN]: It is a graphic memoir version of my print memoir, which came back in 2017.
- 1:59:24[UNKNOWN]: It's called Game Mormon Dad.
- 1:59:26[UNKNOWN]: The art by Remy Burke is stunning.
- 1:59:29[UNKNOWN]: The book turned out so much more beautifully than I hoped.
- 1:59:32[UNKNOWN]: And I hoped, hi, I think it's just beautiful.
- 1:59:34[UNKNOWN]: So I really hope you've been picking it up.
- 1:59:37[UNKNOWN]: A lot of the things we're talking about here today.
- 1:59:38[UNKNOWN]: You'll see reflected as I share my own story in that format.
- 1:59:41[UNKNOWN]: Okay, they can find me on Facebook, which is the best place to find out.
- 1:59:45[UNKNOWN]: I mean, if you're not my Facebook friend, it's open to the public.
- 1:59:49[UNKNOWN]: So you can find out, you know, what I'm up to if I'm appearing anywhere.
- 1:59:54[UNKNOWN]: I'll be honest right now.
- 1:59:55[UNKNOWN]: I have not been invited to a convention this year.
- 1:59:57[UNKNOWN]: There's a couple of long standing ones that I do every year, and I'm pretty sure I'm still doing those, but I won't be in a convention until July when I go to GFest in Chicago, and that's not as a guest.
- 2:00:08[UNKNOWN]: During the summer, I do garage sales, the vest accumulation of stuff comics and pop culture garage sales, which.
- 2:00:15[UNKNOWN]: You know, that's like every other week starting sometime in May and they've been very successful for me.
- 2:00:21[UNKNOWN]: In fact, if I put away all the money I made last year and not used it for things like bills, you know, I could have I could have my new boobs are ready.
- 2:00:28[UNKNOWN]: So there's successful and and I will be at pride in the plea on June 6 in downtown Cleveland.
- 2:00:35[UNKNOWN]: Last year a few comic fans actually did spot me.
- 2:00:38[UNKNOWN]: and came over and talked and everything.
- 2:00:40[UNKNOWN]: And I, you know, I would love to see comics fans come up to me at this year's Pride in the Clea, which is a beautiful, beautiful event held in downtown Cleveland.
- 2:00:50[UNKNOWN]: And I will be there for that.
- 2:00:51[UNKNOWN]: And Mergot, well, um, you can find me, uh,
- 2:00:55[UNKNOWN]: online in a variety of places.
- 2:00:57[UNKNOWN]: I have my own website, ppoid.com, PEPOY.com.
- 2:01:02[UNKNOWN]: You can find me on Facebook.
- 2:01:03[UNKNOWN]: I've got a personal page and a fan page.
- 2:01:05[UNKNOWN]: If I know you, you can send me a friend request.
- 2:01:09[UNKNOWN]: If I don't know you, please follow my fan page.
- 2:01:11[UNKNOWN]: My fan page is the one with a little black and white
- 2:01:18[UNKNOWN]: I'm on Instagram, again, at Peepoi Comics, and I'm on Blue Sky at Peepoi, because I got there fast enough that nobody also grabbed up Peepoi as a user name on one of those already.
- 2:01:31[UNKNOWN]: In June, I'll be at one of my favorite conventions, Heroes Con and Charlotte North Carolina.
- 2:01:35[UNKNOWN]: Great show, if you love to connect with the creators of comics.
- 2:01:40[UNKNOWN]: It's very, it's very comic-scrater-focused.
- 2:01:42[UNKNOWN]: In July, I will be at my usual spot at San Diego
- 2:01:48[UNKNOWN]: Uh, at the back of Hall B at Table M13.
- 2:01:51[UNKNOWN]: Hopefully we will see by that show or at least my shows in the fall, uh, which will be Baltimore, New York.
- 2:01:57[UNKNOWN]: I am hoping to finally have my collection of all my old black and white Simone and Ajax comics out.
- 2:02:02[UNKNOWN]: Uh, that I have, it is way behind and I admit that, but it's run into a number of technical difficulties, which are finally, hopefully about to be wrapped up.
- 2:02:11[UNKNOWN]: And if you're curious to find out more about my Simone and Ajax stuff, which is my own creator own book that I've been doing on and off for 35 years, you can find that I'm not about that at ppl.com and click on Simone and Ajax or just go to their own page at Simone and Ajax.com.
- 2:02:26[UNKNOWN]: And you know, it's a very, if you look for anything deep and meaningful, it's for a fun comic about a 20-something girl in her best pal, there's a three-foot tall, three-foot tall cartoony dinosaur, check it out.
- 2:02:35[UNKNOWN]: It's giving a little Calvin Hobbs, a little big bird and snuffle up against.
- 2:02:38[UNKNOWN]: I'm here for it.
- 2:02:41[UNKNOWN]: It's full of a lot of bad jokes and cheesy puns.
- 2:02:43[UNKNOWN]: I love it very much.
- 2:02:44[UNKNOWN]: How wonderful to see you.
- 2:02:45[UNKNOWN]: Well, thank you for spending your time with me this afternoon.
- 2:02:48[UNKNOWN]: I can't wait to connect with you.
- 2:02:49[UNKNOWN]: Well, again, I'm a big fan of both of yours.
- 2:02:51[UNKNOWN]: And I can't wait to share this with our listeners.
- 2:02:54[UNKNOWN]: Thanks, everybody, for listening.
