- 1:02Speaker 3: Leggy, We've made it.
- 1:04Speaker 2: We finally made it. And I don't need to ask
- 1:07Speaker 2: you about your top one hundred because I have it
- 1:08Speaker 2: on my laptop already. The tab is going to be
- 1:10Speaker 2: permanently open until the end of this draft. But some
- 1:14Speaker 2: news this morning from Adam Schefter, and I've heard everything
- 1:17Speaker 2: with the Broncos seem to be the one team like.
- 1:19Speaker 4: We might move up, we might move down, we might
- 1:22Speaker 4: stay here. Who knows.
- 1:23Speaker 2: But Schefter said they've been receiving calls from teams about
- 1:28Speaker 2: their spot at number twenty. My assumption is because teams
- 1:31Speaker 2: want to jump ahead of the Steelers in case Shador
- 1:33Speaker 2: Sanders is still on the table.
- 1:34Speaker 3: Is that the right read, I would think?
- 1:37Speaker 5: So, I think you talk about people thinking the Broncos
- 1:41Speaker 5: might do anything.
- 1:43Speaker 3: I've talked to.
- 1:44Speaker 5: An awful lot of folks who have no you know,
- 1:47Speaker 5: they're guessing what the Steelers might do. Now, you know,
- 1:50Speaker 5: there are plenty of people in the league who think, ah,
- 1:53Speaker 5: they'll go another direction from a quarterback. But if you
- 1:57Speaker 5: need a quarterback and you're at the top of the
- 1:59Speaker 5: second round, that is the sweet spot for everybody who
- 2:04Speaker 5: isn't named cam Ward. So you know, I think the
- 2:08Speaker 5: Broncos will be very popular if only one quarterback's off
- 2:13Speaker 5: the board and we're down to pick and we're past
- 2:16Speaker 5: the Saints, yeah, you know, you get past the Raiders,
- 2:19Speaker 5: you get past the Saints, and if Ward's the only
- 2:22Speaker 5: quarterback off the board, I think the Broncos could almost
- 2:27Speaker 5: name a price at that point and be in position
- 2:31Speaker 5: because they're like the last hope if you're going to
- 2:34Speaker 5: get in front of the Steelers.
- 2:35Speaker 3: So obviously anybody can make the deal at there.
- 2:39Speaker 5: But in this draft, if I could get another two
- 2:43Speaker 5: and I'm the Broncos and I can make a deal
- 2:45Speaker 5: that gets me another second rounder, and I'm looking at
- 2:50Speaker 5: my board and I only have one or two guys
- 2:52Speaker 5: left with first round grades as my pick is approaching,
- 2:56Speaker 5: I'd make a deal in a heartbeat.
- 2:58Speaker 4: Jeff, we talked about this though. If the Raiders stay, well,
- 3:01Speaker 4: they're gonna stay at six. Let's say they get Ashton
- 3:04Speaker 4: Gent and then they're looking at the Broncos at twenty.
- 3:09Speaker 4: I said to Brett, I said, if I'm the Raiders,
- 3:11Speaker 4: I call Tampa at nineteen and say, what's it gonna take?
- 3:15Speaker 4: Because the price of doing business inside the division to
- 3:19Speaker 4: get to that twenty spot is what.
- 3:23Speaker 5: Well most I mean just sometimes people are just uncomfortable
- 3:26Speaker 5: doing business in their own division just because it's there's
- 3:31Speaker 5: history there and all of that. I will say, Uh,
- 3:36Speaker 5: the Raiders New GM was with the Broncos for some time,
- 3:40Speaker 5: so you know, spy tech is uh, you know, that's
- 3:44Speaker 5: probably another story for another d another day. But there
- 3:48Speaker 5: are so many ex Broncos scouts and personnel guys who
- 3:51Speaker 5: are gms now. But anyway, but you know, he is
- 3:56Speaker 5: a former Bronco personnel guy, so I think that his
- 4:01Speaker 5: ability to make a deal would be easier than somebody else.
- 4:05Speaker 5: But yeah, a lot of people don't like doing business
- 4:08Speaker 5: in the division because you have to live with it,
- 4:10Speaker 5: you know, every every week of every season.
- 4:13Speaker 4: As the Giants.
- 4:18Speaker 5: That kind of soured everybody on the old do the
- 4:21Speaker 5: business in the division thing for for a little bit.
- 4:24Speaker 6: We all got your top one hundred, Jeff. Always fun
- 4:26Speaker 6: to watch how it works out. What kind of feedback
- 4:29Speaker 6: have you gotten when you when you issue your top hundred?
- 4:31Speaker 6: Do you hear from GM's another personnel in the league.
- 4:34Speaker 6: Do they disagree with you? Do they offer any feedback?
- 4:38Speaker 3: Everybody disagrees with everybody in the draft.
- 4:41Speaker 5: That's the beauty of it, you know, it's it's what
- 4:44Speaker 5: kind of flavor of ice cream do you like?
- 4:46Speaker 4: You know?
- 4:46Speaker 5: Basically, Uh, I always I've always said, the funniest feedback
- 4:51Speaker 5: I get.
- 4:51Speaker 3: Is who the hell are you? And uh, you know.
- 4:56Speaker 5: The quarterbacks a low Yeah, how can you rank the
- 4:59Speaker 5: quarterbacks because people refuse to accept that the the boards
- 5:04Speaker 5: in the league look a lot different than how the
- 5:06Speaker 5: quarterbacks go on draft day.
- 5:08Speaker 3: And it's always been a fact.
- 5:10Speaker 5: And the late Floyd Reese was the GM of the
- 5:14Speaker 5: Titans for a long time, and we we would talk
- 5:17Speaker 5: about the draft a great deal, and he actually let
- 5:21Speaker 5: me see them construct their board a few times, and
- 5:25Speaker 5: that's when I learned some important lessons in nineteen ninety
- 5:28Speaker 5: whatever about how boards are really constructed and how it
- 5:33Speaker 5: really looks.
- 5:34Speaker 2: Leggie, you're I can say this now it's not top secret.
- 5:37Speaker 2: Your number one player is Travis Hunter, who Yeah, well
- 5:41Speaker 2: that's that's obvious. I mean, he's amazing.
- 5:44Speaker 3: We all know it was.
- 5:45Speaker 2: Yeah, how far back would you have to go? Like
- 5:49Speaker 2: if you did maybe an all decade top one hundred list,
- 5:52Speaker 2: how far back would you have to go? Or what
- 5:54Speaker 2: player would you have to go to to put somebody
- 5:56Speaker 2: ahead of him?
- 6:00Speaker 3: You know? At one?
- 6:01Speaker 5: I don't you know, like a guy like Burrow or
- 6:04Speaker 5: somebody quarterback, a franchise quarterback in the one spot, it
- 6:09Speaker 5: is a pretty that's the highest grade of highest grades
- 6:12Speaker 5: probably anywhere. But as a corner, he's the most gifted
- 6:17Speaker 5: player I've seen since Champ came out of Georgia.
- 6:20Speaker 4: You know, I.
- 6:22Speaker 5: Covered four Champs games this last year at Georgia, and
- 6:27Speaker 5: I hadn't seen anything like Champ in college his last
- 6:31Speaker 5: year of college, until I saw Travis.
- 6:34Speaker 6: How the hell are they gonna squeeze two hundred and
- 6:38Speaker 6: fifty thousand draft nick NFL people who want to enjoy
- 6:42Speaker 6: tonight into a city of one hundred and five thousand.
- 6:46Speaker 6: There will be more than double the amount of people
- 6:48Speaker 6: visiting Green Bay tonight. Where's everybody sleeping?
- 6:52Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't know.
- 6:53Speaker 5: Is that two fifty for the weekend or two fifty
- 6:56Speaker 5: for Tonight's way?
- 6:57Speaker 6: They need a place to sleep?
- 7:00Speaker 5: Oh no, And you know, having driven from Appleton because
- 7:03Speaker 5: that's the only hotel I could find, or even Milwaukee
- 7:06Speaker 5: a few times, I do find it intriguing, but there
- 7:11Speaker 5: there is no place like it in the NFL. And
- 7:14Speaker 5: and they've done so much work to make the stadium
- 7:18Speaker 5: and everything just be You know, that's as good an
- 7:22Speaker 5: NFL franchise as there is anywhere, and it's in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
- 7:27Speaker 5: But it doesn't happen if they don't share the money
- 7:31Speaker 5: in the NFL. So I think it is one of
- 7:33Speaker 5: the one of the cool byproducts of shared revenue, even
- 7:36Speaker 5: though owners don't always like it.
- 7:38Speaker 4: I think I read what a.
- 7:40Speaker 3: Scene that will be.
- 7:42Speaker 4: I think I read that's one hundred billion dollars boost
- 7:47Speaker 4: to the economy in Green Bay, which is absolutely amazing.
- 7:50Speaker 4: So people are going to be spending their cashing back
- 7:52Speaker 4: to the Broncos real quick. I have a hard time
- 7:56Speaker 4: deciphering exactly when all this talk about they can go back,
- 8:00Speaker 4: they can move up, blah blah blah. I have a
- 8:02Speaker 4: hard time deciphering exactly what it is they want with
- 8:06Speaker 4: that first pick, or if they have their eyes set
- 8:09Speaker 4: on a guy. Because if you want to trade up, boy,
- 8:12Speaker 4: you can get a dang good white out. If you
- 8:14Speaker 4: want to trade back, you're still gonna get a good
- 8:16Speaker 4: running back. If you want to hang tough at twenty,
- 8:19Speaker 4: one of those killer tackles is going to drop to you.
- 8:21Speaker 4: That could be a franchise tackle. So it just seems
- 8:25Speaker 4: I don't know that it's been more unpredictable for me
- 8:27Speaker 4: in a long time.
- 8:29Speaker 3: Well, it's because this is an odd year in the draft.
- 8:33Speaker 3: I'm here to tell you.
- 8:34Speaker 5: I'm I'm not sure I've ever seen a first round
- 8:38Speaker 5: like this. This is a very thin first round, and
- 8:44Speaker 5: the Broncos at twenty are right on the edge of that.
- 8:48Speaker 5: I mean, there's a very real chance if the board
- 8:52Speaker 5: falls a certain way that pick eighteen is up on
- 8:57Speaker 5: the board and the Broncos aren't even clock yet and
- 9:01Speaker 5: they don't have any players with first round grades left
- 9:04Speaker 5: on their board.
- 9:05Speaker 3: That is a scenario that could happen for them.
- 9:10Speaker 5: I believe they have between eighteen and twenty first round
- 9:13Speaker 5: grades somewhere in there, but there is a scenario where
- 9:18Speaker 5: their pick rolls around and yeah, you can take a
- 9:21Speaker 5: player and get a good high second round grade and
- 9:26Speaker 5: a guy who starts a long time and nobody cares
- 9:28Speaker 5: where he was graded, obviously, but it's just the dynamic
- 9:32Speaker 5: of this first round. This draft is really really good
- 9:37Speaker 5: rounds two through five, but the first round is really
- 9:41Speaker 5: thin this year and that's probably nil and we're at
- 9:45Speaker 5: the end of the extra COVID seasons, so this is
- 9:49Speaker 5: kind of a funky year in the first round.
- 9:52Speaker 3: And that's why the twentieth.
- 9:53Speaker 5: Pick feels sort of like you know, on a seesaw,
- 9:57Speaker 5: what are they gonna do? Because you know they might
- 10:01Speaker 5: have to move up to go get they're a first
- 10:04Speaker 5: round graded player. I personally think they would move up
- 10:07Speaker 5: for one of the tight ends if it was close
- 10:10Speaker 5: enough to make the move. Or if you know, in
- 10:14Speaker 5: the one in a billion scenario that genty somehow gets
- 10:20Speaker 5: past ten. You know, then I'm suddenly interested if I'm
- 10:25Speaker 5: the Broncos.
- 10:25Speaker 6: So based on your work, you're telling us that the
- 10:28Speaker 6: number twenty overall pick is essentially a second round draft choice.
- 10:32Speaker 6: If that's the case, then move back get some more
- 10:34Speaker 6: draft choice.
- 10:36Speaker 5: It may not, Beck, I'm just saying that, you know,
- 10:38Speaker 5: not every team has the same twenty players ranked as
- 10:42Speaker 5: first round graded players, or the same fifteen. I'm just
- 10:46Speaker 5: saying there is a scenario where if if the board
- 10:50Speaker 5: falls how they had players graded, they may have a
- 10:54Speaker 5: very short list.
- 10:56Speaker 3: And then in that case, you do try to move
- 10:59Speaker 3: back or.
- 10:59Speaker 5: You take the absolute highest graded player you have on
- 11:03Speaker 5: your board at that moment, because it's probably pretty close
- 11:07Speaker 5: to the twentieth pick.
- 11:08Speaker 2: Where did you in your top one hundred? What's your
- 11:10Speaker 2: cutof for first round grades?
- 11:12Speaker 3: Eighteen? Cam Ward was my last first round grade.
- 11:15Speaker 2: So the top second round grade is McMillan out of Arizona.
- 11:19Speaker 5: Got you, Yeah, And those grades are roughly the same,
- 11:24Speaker 5: you know, nineteen through twenty six, twenty nine.
- 11:27Speaker 3: Yeah, nineteen through forty really is really close.
- 11:31Speaker 2: If you had to handicap this. Let's say they stay
- 11:33Speaker 2: at twenty. I give you offensive skill position talent, wide receiver,
- 11:39Speaker 2: running back, tight end, or the field. Which do you take?
- 11:44Speaker 5: And I'm just going strictly by what I think the
- 11:46Speaker 5: strength of the board will be at that point. Like,
- 11:49Speaker 5: I think both tight ends will probably be gone, So
- 11:52Speaker 5: strength of the board will be wide receiver, defensive tackle
- 11:58Speaker 5: or defensive front seven uh or field. You know that
- 12:03Speaker 5: that's gonna be the strength of your board at that point, gotcha.
- 12:07Speaker 4: I just it's it's very interesting. I mean, like you said, Jeff,
- 12:11Speaker 4: because the first round is so thin, do you anticipate
- 12:16Speaker 4: more movement than than typically we'd see in the first
- 12:18Speaker 4: round of an NFL draft?
- 12:20Speaker 5: You know, I always want to say that, Mege, but
- 12:23Speaker 5: it's it's always easier for us to talk about it
- 12:27Speaker 5: this morning than it is for them to really move tonight.
- 12:30Speaker 4: Yeah, but like you said, but like you say, you know,
- 12:33Speaker 4: this guy may be a second round grade for most teams,
- 12:36Speaker 4: but one team and that one GM and coach goes, Oh,
- 12:39Speaker 4: I love that guy.
- 12:40Speaker 3: You know they got they've.
- 12:42Speaker 4: Got him way ahead of everybody else. I mean, let's
- 12:45Speaker 4: take the prime example, Patrick Mahomes at number ten. Kansas
- 12:49Speaker 4: City's like, we love l u V love this guy,
- 12:53Speaker 4: and they say we're gonna go get him, when other
- 12:54Speaker 4: team's like, eh, we don't grade him that high out
- 12:56Speaker 4: of Texas Tech, nobut that well.
- 12:59Speaker 5: I mean, that could happen, right always, it only takes
- 13:04Speaker 5: one you know, you only need one person in love
- 13:07Speaker 5: to make that happen. You know, again, this is a
- 13:10Speaker 5: weird board because it's a thin first round and there's
- 13:13Speaker 5: no real consensus QB two for people in the league,
- 13:19Speaker 5: and that you put those two things together, that's why
- 13:22Speaker 5: it feels so quirky and uncertain. I mean last year
- 13:27Speaker 5: was like, you know, people couldn't wait to take all
- 13:30Speaker 5: the quarterbacks on the board. This year, it's like everybody's
- 13:34Speaker 5: trying to avoid it on purpose.
- 13:35Speaker 3: You know. It's just a funky, a funky thing.
- 13:39Speaker 5: But I firmly believe, you know, I have a hard
- 13:44Speaker 5: time believe, and it's a one quarterback first round.
- 13:47Speaker 3: I just I've seen too many years when it isn't.
- 13:51Speaker 2: Well, that's the last thing when I ask I'll let
- 13:53Speaker 2: you go and always appreciate your time. Is one thing
- 13:56Speaker 2: I know about Vegas is they don't like losing money.
- 13:58Speaker 2: And I saw a shift the course of a week.
- 14:00Speaker 2: Does it anybody, well, Vegas especially, I think Steve Bohmer does. Yeah,
- 14:05Speaker 2: Steve Bohmer doesn't care. You told us that earlier. The
- 14:09Speaker 2: odds so they have this.
- 14:10Speaker 3: Thing where the Phoenix Suns don't care either. But that's.
- 14:15Speaker 2: Uh, There's there's a thing that they do, which is
- 14:18Speaker 2: they take a specific player, they give them an over
- 14:20Speaker 2: and over under of overall draft selection. Right a week ago,
- 14:24Speaker 2: Shadoor Sanders over under was eleven and a half. Now
- 14:28Speaker 2: it's twenty one and a half.
- 14:29Speaker 4: What happened.
- 14:32Speaker 5: Well, they they're digging for information, just like everybody else is,
- 14:36Speaker 5: you know, and uh, they've obviously heard some things or
- 14:41Speaker 5: they're they're actuarial people have heard some things that adjust
- 14:45Speaker 5: the number some of it and we you know, we
- 14:48Speaker 5: all don't talk about this enough. Sometimes they don't care
- 14:52Speaker 5: about information. They're just looking to split the money down
- 14:54Speaker 5: the middle. So if if the betters have responded that way,
- 15:00Speaker 5: they're gonna move the number. Whether they believe it or not.
- 15:03Speaker 5: You know, it's not. You know, I tell people all
- 15:05Speaker 5: the time, they're not They're not saying who they think
- 15:08Speaker 5: is gonna win every week. They're saying what's the number
- 15:11Speaker 5: that splits the money, and and that's always what they're
- 15:14Speaker 5: going for.
- 15:14Speaker 4: And how many how many teams are playing coy on Shudur?
- 15:17Speaker 4: Maybe you have five teams that really like him and
- 15:19Speaker 4: somebody may jump to eleven, right, I mean, on that subject,
- 15:22Speaker 4: a lot of coin is going on.
- 15:25Speaker 5: You can't listen to the you know, I tell people
- 15:28Speaker 5: all the time, you got to be careful with the
- 15:30Speaker 5: one anonymous scout quote, because I can find a scout
- 15:34Speaker 5: to say they don't like puppies and rainbows.
- 15:37Speaker 3: I mean it.
- 15:38Speaker 5: You can find a scout who doesn't like a player,
- 15:42Speaker 5: no matter who the player is. I mean, I have
- 15:45Speaker 5: I can go back in my binder. I can pull
- 15:47Speaker 5: down my nineteen ninety nine binder and read you criticisms
- 15:51Speaker 5: of Peyton Manning. And you know, you can find a
- 15:56Speaker 5: personnel person to criticize any player. So I I a
- 16:01Speaker 5: don't run a lot of those because I don't believe
- 16:04Speaker 5: in that.
- 16:05Speaker 3: I think that's a disservice to the kid journalistically.
- 16:10Speaker 5: Journalistically, that's a disservice to in my opinion, to the kid.
- 16:15Speaker 4: But about that, I think it's crap.
- 16:18Speaker 6: I think I think it's care About that, I think
- 16:20Speaker 6: I think you're delving. You're sitting when you when you
- 16:26Speaker 6: change the credibility of the character of a player and
- 16:31Speaker 6: you do it three days before the draft, what do
- 16:34Speaker 6: we do?
- 16:35Speaker 5: And you know, my feeling is you're kind of outing
- 16:39Speaker 5: yourself as a draft coverage of the draft person that
- 16:44Speaker 5: you're saying. I don't talk to enough people to know
- 16:48Speaker 5: that I can find one or two to criticize any
- 16:51Speaker 5: player that's been on any board in the history of
- 16:55Speaker 5: the draft.
- 16:55Speaker 3: I mean, this is my fortieth and I've heard.
- 17:00Speaker 5: Criticisms of every single player who has a gold jacket
- 17:05Speaker 5: right now of you know, over that course of that time.
- 17:08Speaker 3: So anyway, and I know you didn't need all that,
- 17:11Speaker 3: but that's just.
- 17:11Speaker 2: No I appreciate it. It's it's very real housewivy like that
- 17:15Speaker 2: sort of like gossip y tabloid feel to do that
- 17:18Speaker 2: right before the draft.
- 17:19Speaker 5: And look, if if you're going to pay people in
- 17:23Speaker 5: the business for clicks, you're going to get that kind
- 17:25Speaker 5: of stuff.
- 17:26Speaker 3: And that's that's and some.
- 17:28Speaker 5: Some outlets pay for pay for clicks, mind does not.
- 17:33Speaker 5: But you know some people base their their payment on
- 17:38Speaker 5: how much action the story got. So anyway, but so
- 17:42Speaker 5: as a you know, I guess I would tell folks,
- 17:44Speaker 5: if you consume draft content, just know that I could
- 17:49Speaker 5: find a scout or a personnel guide to criticize any
- 17:54Speaker 5: any player of any draft and in the history of.
- 17:57Speaker 6: When you need criticism of a fellow medium, and especially
- 18:00Speaker 6: on the show, can you call me and let me
- 18:02Speaker 6: provide those anonymous quotes?
- 18:03Speaker 3: Please? You want to be the AnonymOS guy. You would
- 18:05Speaker 3: be an effective.
- 18:06Speaker 5: You would be a popular source in the lease, in
- 18:09Speaker 5: the media draft build up.
- 18:10Speaker 3: Ease, let me yea.
- 18:13Speaker 5: I would look forward to my scouting report.
- 18:18Speaker 4: Yes, did he say fortieth season?
- 18:21Speaker 2: Fortieth?
- 18:21Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 18:22Speaker 3: Good lord almighty.
