- 0:11Hello friends, it's Sean here. It's Thursday.
- 0:14It's the 29th of May, and Gee, it's good to have your company.
- 0:18So glad that you've tapped on play.
- 0:20Friends, I hope that your week has been a good one so far.
- 0:23Here we are almost at the end of it, but we are at the end of
- 0:28this book of Hebrews. Yes, it's been brief, but these
- 0:32three weeks have been brilliant. And if you thought that the book
- 0:36of Hebrews was great, this last chapter is a banger because this
- 0:40is the author's concluding words.
- 0:43These are the things that they want to leave fresh in the mind
- 0:47of their audience. So it is this beautiful
- 0:50exhortation, this distilling of the important bits to share, the
- 0:54practical bits to share with his friends.
- 0:57And also toward the end is this beautiful blessing, which I've
- 1:01got to say is one of my absolute favourites.
- 1:03So I look forward to getting to read that with you friends.
- 1:06So let's do it. Let us wrap up this wonderful
- 1:09book as we read together the final chapter, Hebrews chapter
- 1:1313. Keep on loving each other as
- 1:26brothers and sisters. Don't forget to show hospitality
- 1:30to strangers, for some who have done this have entertained
- 1:34angels without realising it. Remember those in prison as if
- 1:39you were there yourself. Remember also those being
- 1:42mistreated as if you felt their pain in your own bodies.
- 1:48Give honour to marriage and remain faithful to one another
- 1:52in marriage. God will surely judge people who
- 1:55are immoral and those who commit adultery.
- 2:00Don't love money, be satisfied with what you have, for God has
- 2:04said I will never fail you, I will never abandoned you.
- 2:10So we can say with confidence the Lord is my helper, so I will
- 2:15have No Fear. What can mere people do to me?
- 2:21Remember your leaders who taught you the word of God.
- 2:24Think of all the good that has come from their lives and follow
- 2:28the example of their faith. Jesus Christ is the same
- 2:32yesterday, today and forever, so do not be attracted by strange
- 2:38new ideas. Your strength comes from God's
- 2:42grace, not from rules about food which don't help those who
- 2:46follow them. We have an altar from which the
- 2:50priests in the Tabernacle have no right to eat.
- 2:54Under the old system, the high priest brought the blood of
- 2:57animals into the holy place as a sacrifice for sin, and the
- 3:01bodies of the animals were burned outside the camp.
- 3:05So also Jesus suffered and died outside the city gates to make
- 3:10his people holy by means of his own blood.
- 3:14So let us go out to him outside the camp and bear the disgrace
- 3:19he bore, For this world is not our permanent home.
- 3:24We are looking forward to a home yet to come.
- 3:29Therefore, let us offer through Jesus a continual sacrifice of
- 3:33praise to God, proclaiming our allegiance to His name.
- 3:38And don't forget to do good and to share with those in need.
- 3:42These are the sacrifices that please God.
- 3:45Obey your spiritual leaders and do what they say.
- 3:49Their work is to watch over your souls and they are accountable
- 3:54to God. Give them reason to do this with
- 3:56joy and not with sorrow. That would certainly not be for
- 4:01your benefit. Pray for us, for our conscience
- 4:06is clear and we want to live honourably in everything we do.
- 4:10And especially pray that I will be able to come back to you
- 4:14soon. Now may the God of peace, who
- 4:19brought up from the dead our Lord Jesus, the Great Shepherd
- 4:24of the sheep, and ratified an eternal covenant with his blood,
- 4:28may he equip you with all you need for doing His will.
- 4:33May he produce in you through the power of Jesus Christ every
- 4:38good thing that is pleasing to Him.
- 4:41All glory to him forever and ever.
- 4:46Amen. I urge you, dear brothers and
- 4:50sisters, to pay attention to what I've written in this brief
- 4:53exhortation. I want you to know that our
- 4:56brother Timothy has been released from gaol.
- 4:59If he comes here soon, I will bring him with me to see you.
- 5:03Greet all your leaders and all the believers there.
- 5:07The believers from Italy send you their greetings.
- 5:10May God's grace be with you all, my Lord.
- 5:24As the author writes in this letter, we are so grateful for
- 5:29those people who have invested into our spiritual lives.
- 5:34Lord, for those people who have selflessly given with the long
- 5:38conversations, with the encouraging texts, with the
- 5:42phone calls just when we needed it, with, with all the different
- 5:46ways that they have spoken, love and kindness and faith and
- 5:49guidance into our lives. Lord, we are grateful.
- 5:53Thank you for the gift that they are to us.
- 5:57And Lord, as you have now given us this gift of faith in our
- 6:02hearts, Lord, I pray that you would use us.
- 6:06You would enable us to be the one who shares and encourages
- 6:11and equips and grows our brothers and sisters in faith.
- 6:17Thank you for allowing us to be a part of the work of your
- 6:20Kingdom, this incredibly important work of your
- 6:23unshakable truth and Kingdom. We just commit ourselves to you
- 6:30and your way. We love you and we pray all of
- 6:33this in your precious name, Jesus, Amen.
