- 0:36Speaker 3: Which, oh at the risky move.
- 0:38Speaker 4: The old Dubai chocolate for me always makes me.
- 0:41Speaker 3: Want to put Donna's nickname.
- 0:44Speaker 2: Don't you get me darling, Jesus Christ. I'm like your
- 0:51Speaker 2: favorite car brand, Pavley. You know what they say with
- 0:53Speaker 2: the Donna when you're blown away, there's no more to pay.
- 1:00Speaker 4: Hmm. How are you?
- 1:03Speaker 3: Oh good? I can see you still haven't fixed that hair.
- 1:06Speaker 3: It is troubling.
- 1:07Speaker 5: You claim that it was because you went for a swim,
- 1:10Speaker 5: but it looks like you've styled it.
- 1:12Speaker 3: There's like a quiff at the front.
- 1:14Speaker 4: It's really not do you know what it is?
- 1:16Speaker 2: It really is just it's kind of pools it's pool
- 1:21Speaker 2: water hair. I've got this new place. I've moved into
- 1:23Speaker 2: a new joint and it's quite fancy. I have to say,
- 1:26Speaker 2: go on, but go on. Well, a bit of a pool,
- 1:29Speaker 2: a bit of a tennis court.
- 1:30Speaker 5: Shut up, mate, right right, all right, right, So.
- 1:36Speaker 2: I'm kind of like living that life now. You know
- 1:39Speaker 2: people people who have tennis courts, they don't do their hair.
- 1:43Speaker 5: Yeah, interesting, So is it a retirement village? Is that
- 1:48Speaker 5: the vibe mean Trevor have moved into a condo? Jesus,
- 1:54Speaker 5: one of those he's testing one of those beds, the
- 1:56Speaker 5: electric oncet.
- 1:57Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:58Speaker 2: The house mate, he's always he's always pinching my bloody,
- 2:02Speaker 2: my bull cream. It's every time I had a lawn
- 2:04Speaker 2: bowls and I'm trying to like make sure my my
- 2:06Speaker 2: testes don't get sort of rubbing shaved, shafed bloody.
- 2:11Speaker 4: I'm like, where the hell's my where the hell's my
- 2:14Speaker 4: bull cream? And I find out Trevor's used it to
- 2:18Speaker 4: bat one off.
- 2:19Speaker 3: He's come over.
- 2:24Speaker 2: Apparently the new Dyson got released and he just couldn't
- 2:26Speaker 2: add himself.
- 2:31Speaker 4: Construction on this thing.
- 2:33Speaker 2: Bloody sucked the chrome off a Toba.
- 2:39Speaker 4: God.
- 2:41Speaker 2: Anyway, every time I think he's snacking on Lolli's I'm like,
- 2:43Speaker 2: what are they He's just he's just like he's just
- 2:46Speaker 2: feasting on a.
- 2:47Speaker 4: Bloody bottle of blue shoe viagras. He just pops some
- 2:50Speaker 4: light mold teesers. Anyway, fucking don't run in the house
- 2:57Speaker 4: with that, Trev. You bloody have my eye. This is
- 3:01Speaker 4: off to a great start.
- 3:04Speaker 3: This is good.
- 3:06Speaker 4: This is good.
- 3:07Speaker 2: I'd rate this episode if I were you and I
- 3:11Speaker 2: was listening to my own podcast, right, I'm talking to
- 3:14Speaker 2: the listeners, paplay not to you.
- 3:15Speaker 4: I'm talking to the.
- 3:16Speaker 2: Listener, I would probably go ahead and just around and
- 3:21Speaker 2: just just give this thing five stars, because holy this
- 3:26Speaker 2: is a ship show of just stellar automotive information.
- 3:32Speaker 3: Speaking of which, let's let's start talking about some car stuff.
- 3:35Speaker 4: I'd rather not.
- 3:36Speaker 2: Let's just before we talk about we are going to
- 3:41Speaker 2: talk about the Ford Ranger super Duty before we do.
- 3:45Speaker 2: Is there anything on the horizon it's exciting you, because yes,
- 3:49Speaker 2: tell me tell me one car.
- 3:51Speaker 3: Two things.
- 3:52Speaker 5: Okay, so one that I actually got to see the
- 3:55Speaker 5: other day, the BMW I X three.
- 3:58Speaker 3: Oh, so this sits on.
- 4:00Speaker 5: It's basically what BMW is calling the New Class, which
- 4:05Speaker 5: is an inspiration from the sixties when BMW did the
- 4:08Speaker 5: new Class and it kind of really supercharged the brand
- 4:11Speaker 5: in terms of sales and where it went.
- 4:13Speaker 3: And what they're hoping is this.
- 4:15Speaker 2: I just paused you there because we've seen this design
- 4:17Speaker 2: language of BMW's new Class already yep, and now this
- 4:21Speaker 2: has seeped into the IX three.
- 4:23Speaker 5: Well, this is the new IX three, So if you
- 4:26Speaker 5: picture the new X three, this looks nothing like it.
- 4:28Speaker 5: So the new class and this modular platform they've created
- 4:33Speaker 5: will spawn something like forty new models, both plug in
- 4:37Speaker 5: hybrid and fully electric, and they're launching with the IX three.
- 4:40Speaker 5: It'll be closely followed by the I three, which is
- 4:42Speaker 5: the electric version of the three series.
- 4:45Speaker 3: And I've got to see this in.
- 4:46Speaker 5: Person and the outside like it's very striking. And to
- 4:51Speaker 5: get the range that they've got out of this, they've
- 4:53Speaker 5: kind of lowered the roofline so it has SUV proportions,
- 4:56Speaker 5: but it isn't sort of really tall like most other
- 4:59Speaker 5: su and it means that they've been able to get
- 5:02Speaker 5: in the model that we saw the fifty basically eight
- 5:05Speaker 5: hundred kilometers of driving range out of a fully electric car,
- 5:08Speaker 5: which is really impressive. Over one hundred kils what hours
- 5:11Speaker 5: of battery capacity. But the thing that blew me away
- 5:13Speaker 5: the most was the interior. This is on another planet.
- 5:16Speaker 5: So they've got the new version of BMW's I Drive
- 5:20Speaker 5: OS X, which is basically OS ten.
- 5:24Speaker 3: Which is cool. But the thing that really blows your
- 5:27Speaker 3: way is.
- 5:28Speaker 5: Over forty inches forty inches of screen on the dashboard.
- 5:34Speaker 4: Oh sorry it is I thought that was a structures.
- 5:38Speaker 3: Yeah, from one side to the other. It is huge.
- 5:43Speaker 5: So it basically allows you to fully customize what you
- 5:45Speaker 5: see ahead of you, and it acts in place of
- 5:48Speaker 5: a head up display, so you can actually have whatever
- 5:50Speaker 5: you want up there.
- 5:51Speaker 3: Basically, it is just it is out of this world.
- 5:54Speaker 5: So I think they have done an incredible job with
- 5:56Speaker 5: the interior and the tech. This to me is what
- 5:59Speaker 5: new cars are about. Like Mercedes Benz the other week
- 6:02Speaker 5: launched the new S class Oh yeah, and I was like,
- 6:05Speaker 5: what the hell is this? It looks exactly like the
- 6:07Speaker 5: old one. They debuted heated seat belts. It's like, wow, yeah,
- 6:12Speaker 5: whooped de doo. Like it is just such a low
- 6:15Speaker 5: effort car. And the fact that they had to have
- 6:18Speaker 5: so many like influencer types there like Roger Federer and
- 6:22Speaker 5: all these other people just shows you.
- 6:24Speaker 2: And they were all doing like a happy Birthday Mercedes
- 6:27Speaker 2: or something.
- 6:27Speaker 4: Did you see that?
- 6:28Speaker 5: It was just it really just felt very like just
- 6:32Speaker 5: legacy car company and like them genuinely feels like they've
- 6:35Speaker 5: given up. So to see BMW come out with this
- 6:38Speaker 5: brand new type of vehicle and just so much Yeah,
- 6:43Speaker 5: it is just so cool.
- 6:44Speaker 3: I'm actually excited by this.
- 6:46Speaker 5: I haven't been excited by something new from the Germans
- 6:48Speaker 5: for quite some time. So yeah, really impressed with this.
- 6:51Speaker 5: I just hope they don't go nuts with the pricing.
- 6:53Speaker 5: The previous generation of the IX three came in at
- 6:56Speaker 5: under LCT threshold, so under ninety thousand dollars. I really
- 7:00Speaker 5: hope they can squeeze in the entry level under that
- 7:02Speaker 5: ninety k mark, because if they can, I reckon they're
- 7:05Speaker 5: going to sell sell quite a few of these.
- 7:07Speaker 2: Yeah, that screen you're talking about, is that part of
- 7:10Speaker 2: the windscreen I don't understand.
- 7:11Speaker 4: Instead of a hare, it.
- 7:12Speaker 5: Basically sits Yeah, it sits on this black panel that
- 7:15Speaker 5: stretches across the entire windscreen and it's projected onto there.
- 7:19Speaker 5: So it basically projects this image onto this black section.
- 7:24Speaker 3: And it's so hard to explain it it's basically real time.
- 7:27Speaker 5: If you open up the infotainment system and move things around,
- 7:30Speaker 5: it follows your finger as you're putting it up there
- 7:33Speaker 5: like it is super high end. They've also ditched the
- 7:36Speaker 5: eye drive controller that's now completely gone as well, so
- 7:38Speaker 5: it is strictly a touch screen for the infotainment system.
- 7:41Speaker 5: So yeah, it's just full on. You've got to see
- 7:44Speaker 5: this thing in person. It is really impressive.
- 7:47Speaker 2: Wow, I cannot wait. You know what impressed me the
- 7:50Speaker 2: other day? What I was driving a good On two
- 7:54Speaker 2: thousand and four nine.
- 7:57Speaker 5: Six oh go on, like a base carera Yeah, base
- 8:02Speaker 5: corren Or Auto.
- 8:03Speaker 4: It was auto.
- 8:04Speaker 2: It was trip Tiptronic, and it was like that was
- 8:09Speaker 2: I think that's the only way I'm going to get
- 8:10Speaker 2: my missus over the line with with me getting one
- 8:14Speaker 2: of these cars, because she she's going to have to
- 8:17Speaker 2: drive it eventually.
- 8:18Speaker 4: She picks me up from the pub.
- 8:19Speaker 2: Every now and then, so she's going to have to
- 8:21Speaker 2: drive this thing, and she doesn't want to drive a manual.
- 8:23Speaker 5: But the problem is a pre PDK nine to eleven
- 8:28Speaker 5: they were a bit ship as an auto, so you
- 8:31Speaker 5: kind of have to get either a manual or go
- 8:36Speaker 5: to a what was it. Did you say nin nine six?
- 8:41Speaker 5: So when did the PDK debut?
- 8:44Speaker 2: Yeah, that was about two thousand.
- 8:47Speaker 4: I think it was later.
- 8:49Speaker 2: So this is a because this is about a two
- 8:51Speaker 2: thousand and four okay, so.
- 8:53Speaker 3: That wasn't nine nine seven maybe nine nine seven. Was
- 8:56Speaker 3: PDC going to google this?
- 8:57Speaker 2: Yeah, because my my, my old Porsche had a PDK
- 9:01Speaker 2: and okay, and that was actually quite deep larded.
- 9:06Speaker 5: Okay, So two thousand and eight in the nine ninety seven.
- 9:09Speaker 5: So can you stretch the budget to a nine nine seven?
- 9:12Speaker 3: Yes?
- 9:13Speaker 4: I think so.
- 9:13Speaker 3: Yeah, Okay, if you.
- 9:16Speaker 5: Can, then I think the auto is fine in that.
- 9:18Speaker 5: Then what on earth is what are you? Was a
- 9:22Speaker 5: protein bars? Getting my protein in coming from you? Mister
- 9:27Speaker 5: three caramel?
- 9:29Speaker 4: I think thank you? Fucking went for a.
- 9:31Speaker 5: Fourth no comment, but yes, I reckon nine seven he's
- 9:38Speaker 5: going to be the way to go.
- 9:39Speaker 2: I'm aboud to do an ad because we need a sponsor,
- 9:42Speaker 2: and this is the sort of ads that we could
- 9:43Speaker 2: do for you.
- 9:44Speaker 4: If you've got a company or a bus.
- 9:45Speaker 5: By the way, if we need a sponsor, we probably
- 9:47Speaker 5: need to tell them to email us at the right
- 9:50Speaker 5: place because in the ad it's for the wrong email address.
- 9:54Speaker 2: Oh fuck has it really, I'll tell our Bozz, the
- 9:57Speaker 2: guy who does our bits and pieces out and stuff, Bozz,
- 10:01Speaker 2: fucking can you get that right? That's costing us thousands
- 10:05Speaker 2: every single episode, thousands of yen.
- 10:08Speaker 4: Thousands and thousands of yen.
- 10:09Speaker 3: That's what it admits.
- 10:10Speaker 2: Jam and Maw have really tried to contact us many times,
- 10:14Speaker 2: have hacked into my iPhone, but they can't send us
- 10:17Speaker 2: a fucking email because of you anyway.
- 10:21Speaker 4: So can I just tell you one thing.
- 10:24Speaker 2: It was so refreshing to jump in his car and
- 10:27Speaker 2: just to smell a fucking car from the early two
- 10:30Speaker 2: thousands that has clearly probably done some sort of like
- 10:34Speaker 2: executive cocaine and all sorts of stuff in it, but
- 10:38Speaker 2: the plastic, that shitty kind of early two thousands pluses
- 10:41Speaker 2: that the Porsches had.
- 10:43Speaker 4: He could hear it creaking, and it was brilliant. I
- 10:47Speaker 4: loved it. Not a fast car by any stretch.
- 10:50Speaker 2: Fuck it was slow, but it was so refreshing to
- 10:54Speaker 2: be driving along in a car that was so well
- 10:57Speaker 2: engineered and no warning systems whatsoever on that thing.
- 11:03Speaker 4: Zero, Just fucking delight those.
- 11:07Speaker 2: I would love to have a chat to the people
- 11:09Speaker 2: at an CAP and the people who represent an cap
- 11:13Speaker 2: and the people who make up the fucking criteria for
- 11:17Speaker 2: selling you what they call a safe car, because the
- 11:20Speaker 2: amount of safety systems that I would argue till the
- 11:24Speaker 2: day I die, these are not these are doing anything
- 11:28Speaker 2: but fucking keeping you safe. I just think like, when
- 11:30Speaker 2: you're getting that many confusing warnings and you don't know
- 11:33Speaker 2: what the fuck is going on, it is absolutely pointless
- 11:39Speaker 2: and it does more harm than good. I wonder if
- 11:42Speaker 2: let's quickly ask chat GPT one question, right.
- 11:45Speaker 4: Hey there, Gordy bitched it.
- 11:47Speaker 2: Can you tell me if the safety systems on these
- 11:51Speaker 2: cars have made any difference to the road tolls in
- 11:55Speaker 2: the last ten years.
- 11:57Speaker 6: I get you on a straightforward answer, and I'm happy
- 12:00Speaker 6: to help. The safety systems on modern cars, things like
- 12:03Speaker 6: autonomous emergency breaking, lane departure warnings, and stability control have
- 12:07Speaker 6: definitely contributed to reducing road fatalities over time.
- 12:10Speaker 4: But it's not I'm sorry, I keep dying means no worries.
- 12:14Speaker 6: As I was saying, the drop in road tolls over
- 12:16Speaker 6: the last decade is a combination of safer vehicles and
- 12:19Speaker 6: other factors that are road design, stricter laws, and public awareness.
- 12:23Speaker 6: So yes, those safety features have helped, but they're part
- 12:26Speaker 6: of a bigger picture.
- 12:28Speaker 2: Do you know what I do love about chat JP tay.
- 12:31Speaker 2: I'm going to show this to my wife because when
- 12:33Speaker 2: I talk.
- 12:34Speaker 4: She stopped.
- 12:36Speaker 7: The floor.
- 12:38Speaker 4: Sorry, please don't interrupt my show. Thank you got it?
- 12:41Speaker 4: No interruptions for me.
- 12:43Speaker 3: Say later, good lucky with that. Yep.
- 12:50Speaker 2: Oh Ford RNA, super Judy, she a big super Duty.
- 12:54Speaker 2: Go are you gonna buy one of these?
- 12:56Speaker 4: Yes or no?
- 12:57Speaker 3: Yes? I have bought one, did just waiting for yet delivered. Yep.
- 13:02Speaker 5: So the I didn't get the Taliban Tanna and I
- 13:07Speaker 5: got the dark.
- 13:08Speaker 3: Green whatever it's called, but it is.
- 13:12Speaker 5: I'm getting the style side versions of the one with
- 13:14Speaker 5: the tube.
- 13:17Speaker 4: Good choice, yep.
- 13:19Speaker 5: But yeah, we just drove the Super Duty and you
- 13:22Speaker 5: know what I came away with mixed thoughts. And I'll
- 13:27Speaker 5: start off with probably the first thing, which is what
- 13:29Speaker 5: I said to them back when we first looked at
- 13:31Speaker 5: the car. I said that for this to work, it
- 13:34Speaker 5: needs to be reliable, like it needs to be a
- 13:38Speaker 5: lot more reliable than you know, you go to a
- 13:40Speaker 5: range of forum and yes it's going to have problems
- 13:42Speaker 5: in it.
- 13:42Speaker 3: But if people have problems with.
- 13:44Speaker 5: This and it is meant to be a heavy duty.
- 13:47Speaker 5: You know, it's in the name super duty. It is
- 13:49Speaker 5: not going to have the reputation of something like a
- 13:51Speaker 5: seventy series.
- 13:52Speaker 3: So I say that from the start.
- 13:54Speaker 5: Then I watched a video by four Wheel Drive twenty
- 13:58Speaker 5: four to seven where they were testing super Duty.
- 14:00Speaker 3: And now, these guys probably go.
- 14:03Speaker 5: Beyond what a normal person would do, but in this instance,
- 14:05Speaker 5: I think it was at the start of their test
- 14:06Speaker 5: they didn't really sort of do anything, and basically they had.
- 14:10Speaker 3: The car start shutting down on them.
- 14:12Speaker 5: And Ford's rationale was that the alternator was clogged up
- 14:16Speaker 5: with mud, and as a result to that, once the
- 14:19Speaker 5: alternator clogs up, you end up training in twelve volve
- 14:22Speaker 5: battery and then all of the car systems gradually stopped working.
- 14:25Speaker 5: Now that's a normal thing for any car, right in
- 14:28Speaker 5: terms of what happens when an alternator stops. But you
- 14:31Speaker 5: shouldn't have an alternator stop on a range of super duty.
- 14:34Speaker 5: It should be designed in a way that that doesn't
- 14:36Speaker 5: become a problem. Second, the failure mode of this was
- 14:40Speaker 5: just catastrophically bad. While the host of the channel, I'm
- 14:45Speaker 5: I'm not sure what his name was.
- 14:46Speaker 3: But while he was driving it.
- 14:48Speaker 5: It had all these warnings on the screen that he
- 14:50Speaker 5: obviously just ignored for some reason, but he kept driving
- 14:53Speaker 5: and when he went to pull over, he lost power
- 14:56Speaker 5: assisted steering, power assisted brakes, and then the car truck
- 14:59Speaker 5: to put itself into. This is like just insanely bad
- 15:03Speaker 5: failure mode for this type of vehicle.
- 15:05Speaker 3: So and then just before we filmed our.
- 15:09Speaker 5: Thing, one of those raffle companies that was giving one
- 15:12Speaker 5: away switched their car on and the thing had like
- 15:16Speaker 5: a diesel runaway, which happens if you overfill a vehicle
- 15:21Speaker 5: with oil. And they threw someone at this dealership under
- 15:25Speaker 5: the bus because the car was delivered to them on
- 15:27Speaker 5: a tilt tray, and then when they switched it on,
- 15:28Speaker 5: it it had this diesel runaway event.
- 15:31Speaker 3: Even in that regard your.
- 15:33Speaker 5: Car, they should have systems in place that if the
- 15:36Speaker 5: car is overfilled with oil, don't start the thing, you know,
- 15:40Speaker 5: don't let it get to the stage where it'll have.
- 15:42Speaker 3: This runaway event where you know, it can just be dangerous.
- 15:45Speaker 5: Like it's just a simple stuff like that. So if
- 15:49Speaker 5: you put that to one side, we did a lot
- 15:51Speaker 5: of testing with the car. We hooked it up to
- 15:53Speaker 5: our trailer, dine and instead of testing at three killing uons,
- 15:56Speaker 5: which is what normally what we test all the dual
- 15:58Speaker 5: caveats and SUVs, I thought, let's just double that to
- 16:01Speaker 5: six because this is the super duty. And basically it
- 16:06Speaker 5: sort of did reasonably well. But what started showing itself
- 16:10Speaker 5: was that this thing has quite a lack of punch.
- 16:13Speaker 5: They've basically tuned the emission system to meet European emissions
- 16:18Speaker 5: requirements and as a result of that, it is basically
- 16:21Speaker 5: starved of power. It has quite a lot of emissions
- 16:24Speaker 5: control equipment on an including ad Blue, and you can
- 16:27Speaker 5: really feel that this thing weighs, you know, more than
- 16:30Speaker 5: a wild track. And that's before you put the tray
- 16:32Speaker 5: on it. You put a train accessories on, you're looking
- 16:34Speaker 5: at five or six hundred kilos more than a WildTrack,
- 16:37Speaker 5: with less power than a V six WildTrack. It really
- 16:40Speaker 5: starts showing itself as being underpowered for what it is.
- 16:43Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, you could have probably would have known
- 16:46Speaker 2: that from the moment and jumped in though, right.
- 16:48Speaker 3: No, not really. I knew the power figure.
- 16:50Speaker 5: I just didn't expect it to be as sluggish as
- 16:52Speaker 5: it is, even with no load in it.
- 16:55Speaker 3: It feels really sluggish the second you loaded up.
- 16:58Speaker 5: We loaded it up to eight thousand kilos gcm, which
- 17:01Speaker 5: is the vehicle's maximum carrying capacity, and at that stage
- 17:06Speaker 5: I didn't feel comfortable with that much load, and in
- 17:10Speaker 5: terms of its acceleration like it felt like, yes, yes,
- 17:15Speaker 5: it can move from A to B, but the second
- 17:18Speaker 5: we got to our hill climb, it felt like it
- 17:21Speaker 5: was really struggling. So I think that they've gone a
- 17:24Speaker 5: bit too hard with the emission stuff and also probably
- 17:27Speaker 5: detuned it so you get longevity out of it. And
- 17:30Speaker 5: as a result of that, it just feels like it
- 17:32Speaker 5: lacks punch, which is a shame because the rest of
- 17:35Speaker 5: the car is absolutely bulletproof and we stuck it up
- 17:38Speaker 5: on the hoist and had to look under it.
- 17:40Speaker 3: This isn't just a tartt up ranger.
- 17:42Speaker 5: They have really gone to town on this huge load,
- 17:44Speaker 5: control arms, a massive diff out of a full transit.
- 17:48Speaker 5: You've got parabolic leaf springs, bigger dampers, quite incredible underbody
- 17:54Speaker 5: protection all the way through.
- 17:56Speaker 3: Protected fuel tank.
- 17:57Speaker 5: Fuel tank is bigger and it needs to be because
- 17:59Speaker 5: this us pretty much as much.
- 18:01Speaker 3: Fuel, if not more than a raptor.
- 18:03Speaker 5: So it is a big, sturdy, vehicle, So certainly from
- 18:07Speaker 5: that point of view, it's excellent. I just think they've
- 18:09Speaker 5: potentially missed a trick there with the engine.
- 18:11Speaker 2: I wonder who's going to buy this. I mean, I
- 18:13Speaker 2: feel like this is very much a farmer's car. It's
- 18:15Speaker 2: positively like a trading car or some sort of a
- 18:18Speaker 2: like a trade fleet sort of car, if you know
- 18:21Speaker 2: what I mean. But yeah, I'm due to jump in
- 18:24Speaker 2: this next week, I think, and I'm looking forward to it.
- 18:27Speaker 2: I had a bit of a quick go the other
- 18:29Speaker 2: week and nice. It's it's almost like I did feel
- 18:34Speaker 2: how sluggish it was, and I didn't toe anything obviously,
- 18:36Speaker 2: but yeah, I feel like they got ninety five percent
- 18:40Speaker 2: of this car right, But there was just like some
- 18:42Speaker 2: really fucking obvious, obvious bits and pieces that stood out
- 18:46Speaker 2: and you're like, ah, guys, what what are you doing? Wow?
- 18:49Speaker 3: And it's expensive. It is a big old chunk of change.
- 18:52Speaker 5: So I think that when you put it in the
- 18:53Speaker 5: context of how much work you have to do to
- 18:55Speaker 5: a seventy series to get it to the level where
- 18:57Speaker 5: it can carry this load and even carry this.
- 19:00Speaker 3: Load, but to get it to a level where it's
- 19:02Speaker 3: it's useful.
- 19:02Speaker 5: As a as a vehicle that is going to be
- 19:05Speaker 5: taken out to the bush and used by some of
- 19:07Speaker 5: these industries like fire industries and load carrying. I think
- 19:11Speaker 5: that's where you really start seeing the advantage of the
- 19:14Speaker 5: super Duty.
- 19:15Speaker 3: But you know, it is a narrow use case.
- 19:18Speaker 5: I think that their sales are probably like, we're already
- 19:21Speaker 5: starting to see discounts on super Duty, so it just
- 19:23Speaker 5: tells you that private. Yeah, look, they may have sold
- 19:28Speaker 5: a few to start with, but I think most of
- 19:29Speaker 5: the sales are going to be in the sort of
- 19:31Speaker 5: passenger version with the.
- 19:33Speaker 3: Normal tray in it.
- 19:34Speaker 5: So I think that's what we're going to see this
- 19:36Speaker 5: sort of uptick, because you're going to get people buy
- 19:37Speaker 5: it for the sake of buying it it being a
- 19:40Speaker 5: useful tool.
- 19:40Speaker 2: I felt the interior was a little lacking in parts,
- 19:44Speaker 2: like you're really getting basic cloth seats, well launched with.
- 19:50Speaker 3: What they launched with was the base model.
- 19:52Speaker 5: So what is coming is the XLT and that picks
- 19:54Speaker 5: up your sort of headed in cooled seats and a
- 19:56Speaker 5: few other sort of bits and pieces. They launched with
- 19:59Speaker 5: the base model to start with. But excel T will
- 20:02Speaker 5: bring some of those creature comforts that some some industries
- 20:05Speaker 5: may want.
- 20:05Speaker 4: Mmm, so would you get them one? The green one?
- 20:09Speaker 3: Yeah? I know what the color is it?
- 20:11Speaker 4: And when do you get it?
- 20:12Speaker 3: April ish.
- 20:14Speaker 2: You can put some little bits and pieces on it,
- 20:15Speaker 2: some fluffy seat covers or something.
- 20:17Speaker 3: Like that, just a little exhaust. Yeah, nutholder, nutholder salted nuts.
- 20:23Speaker 4: Oh okay, I was going to say a nutholder for
- 20:25Speaker 4: a year.
- 20:26Speaker 3: That wouldn't be much.
- 20:27Speaker 2: Get a little tea speech, they'd be salted speaking about
- 20:31Speaker 2: big utes.
- 20:33Speaker 4: Yeah, Cherry, Yeah.
- 20:35Speaker 3: Cherries popped their ute.
- 20:36Speaker 5: Cherry, Hey, not even hello. So Cherry has unveiled the
- 20:46Speaker 5: basically their unnamed yute. And this thing looks bloody sensational.
- 20:52Speaker 5: I'm going to show you a picture Gordy.
- 20:54Speaker 4: Looking at a silver one. Jesus, it looks there.
- 20:58Speaker 3: You haven't.
- 21:00Speaker 4: Oh look at that.
- 21:02Speaker 2: Oh god, it's got the same headlights in it as
- 21:05Speaker 2: that that other thing.
- 21:06Speaker 3: It's kind of like a Bronco.
- 21:08Speaker 4: No, it's like a Bronco.
- 21:11Speaker 2: Stop the headlights. Okay, the headlights the car. It gives
- 21:16Speaker 2: another one of the front squeezy squeeze. It's not bad.
- 21:22Speaker 4: It actually looks all right.
- 21:24Speaker 5: So yeah, they're they're going pretty hard with this and
- 21:27Speaker 5: they're kind of late to the party, but I think
- 21:29Speaker 5: deliberately so because they're looking at what everyone else has
- 21:32Speaker 5: done and they want to try and fill the gaps
- 21:33Speaker 5: where those others haven't worked out how to do what
- 21:36Speaker 5: they're doing. So I'm talking about a half ton YEP
- 21:40Speaker 5: that's one of them, three and a half done break
- 21:42Speaker 5: towing capacity, diesel and petrol plug in hybrid from my understanding,
- 21:46Speaker 5: which is pretty crazy talking about a thousand kilos of payload.
- 21:51Speaker 5: The interior looks absolutely next level. So they've got auxiliary
- 21:55Speaker 5: switches similar to Ranger. You've got headed and cooled seats, front, center, rear,
- 21:59Speaker 5: deer flock. It is like a rocket ship here in
- 22:03Speaker 5: terms of the equipment you have inside the cabin.
- 22:06Speaker 3: And it's big as well. So they didn't talk dimensions.
- 22:08Speaker 5: Today, but you know, this appears to me like a
- 22:12Speaker 5: vehicle that sits bigger than a Ranger like it is.
- 22:14Speaker 3: It is a whopper of a thing. So this is
- 22:17Speaker 3: huge for.
- 22:17Speaker 5: Cherry because you know, this this is a brand that
- 22:20Speaker 5: has poached a lot of people from other car companies
- 22:23Speaker 5: and they're really trying to build this stable of vehicles
- 22:27Speaker 5: and having driven some of the recent stuff like the
- 22:29Speaker 5: T nine.
- 22:31Speaker 3: I mean the value that you're.
- 22:32Speaker 5: Getting out of that car, three electric motors, explosive acceleration
- 22:37Speaker 5: on thousand k's plus of driving range is really impressive
- 22:41Speaker 5: there in terms of what you can do with it.
- 22:43Speaker 5: So yeah, I'm excited to see what this is like.
- 22:46Speaker 5: Launching in Australia late this year. It's just crazy to
- 22:49Speaker 5: me that they can take what is a rolling like
- 22:52Speaker 5: clay slash wood model that they showed us to a
- 22:55Speaker 5: production car within a matter of you know, twelve months.
- 23:00Speaker 3: It's pretty pretty awesome.
- 23:01Speaker 5: So yeah, I'll be keen to see what it's actually
- 23:04Speaker 5: like and how it drives, because it's easier to come
- 23:06Speaker 5: up with a concept, but executing it and making it
- 23:08Speaker 5: work that's the hard part.
- 23:09Speaker 4: Yeah, do we know about off road equipment on the set?
- 23:13Speaker 3: Look, it's the car they had on display.
- 23:15Speaker 5: It was kind of like a bit of a demo car,
- 23:17Speaker 5: so it had beef Goodrich Ko three tires, external reservoir suspension.
- 23:22Speaker 5: You know, it was pretty sort of meety. I suspect
- 23:25Speaker 5: this is like a hardcore off road version, perhaps just
- 23:27Speaker 5: a concept. I think the standard one will have a
- 23:30Speaker 5: more sedate setup, but the car that we did see
- 23:32Speaker 5: had switches for front, rear and center diflocks, which is
- 23:35Speaker 5: a pretty impressive sort of repertoire of off road equipment
- 23:39Speaker 5: to be able to get around in.
- 23:40Speaker 4: Yeah, what are they pricing this at.
- 23:42Speaker 5: We don't know yet, but I think logically they'd have
- 23:45Speaker 5: to be starting at about the fifty thousand dollar mark.
- 23:48Speaker 5: If you want to compete with a Shark, which is
- 23:49Speaker 5: high fifties, you'd want to be within that fifty to
- 23:52Speaker 5: sixty price bracket. So I think that's going to be
- 23:55Speaker 5: where they need to be, And it's just going to
- 23:57Speaker 5: be interesting if you're a mid to be issue with
- 23:59Speaker 5: the Try or a Nissen with the new Navara, which
- 24:02Speaker 5: bizarrely they've priced much higher than Triton even though it's
- 24:05Speaker 5: the same car. I just think that you're going to
- 24:08Speaker 5: be struggling if you're one of those brands. These guys
- 24:10Speaker 5: are really just going to be taking a lot of
- 24:12Speaker 5: sales from legacy car brands.
- 24:14Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 24:14Speaker 2: God, even the Bloody We didn't really talk about it
- 24:17Speaker 2: last year, but even though fucking High Lucks debacle, I
- 24:21Speaker 2: actually think this looks way nicer than the Highluks.
- 24:24Speaker 3: Oh yeah, that's not hard.
- 24:25Speaker 5: Yeah, looks better with a giant bullbar on it.
- 24:29Speaker 2: But yeah, actually I saw a really good looking twenty
- 24:32Speaker 2: twenty six high Lucks. It had crashed into a tree
- 24:36Speaker 2: and it was it was burning. There's no one in there.
- 24:39Speaker 2: I just lit the thing on via myself. A big
- 24:45Speaker 2: shout out to Toyota. If you're listening, thanks for Stars
- 24:49Speaker 2: five Stars podcast, five Starts podcasts.
- 24:52Speaker 4: Yeah, run out of cars, I don't have anything? Yeah
- 24:58Speaker 4: what else?
- 24:58Speaker 3: What we did say? This was going to be quick
- 25:00Speaker 3: and dirty.
- 25:01Speaker 4: Yeah, just like you, Just like me with my stupid hair.
- 25:04Speaker 4: I'm gonna get my hairself a haircut.
- 25:06Speaker 2: I'm going to book myself as soon as we're done
- 25:07Speaker 2: with this, I'm going to book myself in a fucking haircut.
- 25:09Speaker 3: Yeah, do it? Do it?
- 25:11Speaker 4: Actually, I've got some you know what I'm excited about.
- 25:14Speaker 2: I'm about to jump in my first.
- 25:15Speaker 4: Jacu Oh who Jacob?
- 25:20Speaker 3: Get it? Which one?
- 25:24Speaker 4: I don't know?
- 25:25Speaker 2: The one that's probably like this, not the smallest SUVs
- 25:29Speaker 2: like the five J five J five BB.
- 25:32Speaker 4: They look good, don't they? They really do look nice?
- 25:35Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 25:36Speaker 5: Jake, who is under that sort of Cherry umbrella and
- 25:41Speaker 5: it's kind of their sort of more premium brand. Cherry
- 25:44Speaker 5: is the sort of entry level JKU and a motor
- 25:46Speaker 5: and then the sort of more premium things. So yeah, look,
- 25:49Speaker 5: I think that I've seen a few of these on
- 25:50Speaker 5: the road down They actually look really decent and they
- 25:52Speaker 5: offer a really good range of colors as well, so
- 25:54Speaker 5: you kind of you really have a fair bit there
- 25:57Speaker 5: to choose from.
- 25:59Speaker 2: Hey, I'm to bring this up really quickly. There's going
- 26:01Speaker 2: to be like a mid year release of the Ranger
- 26:05Speaker 2: Wild Track. They're phasing out the four cylinder we're getting.
- 26:08Speaker 4: They're saying a.
- 26:08Speaker 2: Slight face left, so I think we'll probably just get it.
- 26:12Speaker 4: We'll get a different grill. I reckon.
- 26:14Speaker 5: It's very minor. The changes they've made are almost insignificant.
- 26:18Speaker 5: But the biggest one is that the end of the
- 26:20Speaker 5: full cylinder. That is huge, because you know, the full
- 26:23Speaker 5: cylinder was kind of people's go to.
- 26:25Speaker 3: They're now forced into the V six.
- 26:26Speaker 5: A lot of this comes as a result of the
- 26:29Speaker 5: ENVEZ the tax. It's forcing manufacturers to start culling their
- 26:34Speaker 5: ranges and it is disappointing because it really reduces options
- 26:39Speaker 5: for customers and it means that you are forced into
- 26:41Speaker 5: a V six now if it's not what you.
- 26:43Speaker 3: Wanted and ironically, that is just going to emit more.
- 26:47Speaker 4: I had a V six, I had the wild Track.
- 26:50Speaker 4: What do you call it? The fucking hybrid? Oh, it's such.
- 26:54Speaker 2: A Again, this goes back to like they nailed it
- 26:57Speaker 2: ninety five percent of the way. But why they Why
- 27:00Speaker 2: you're paying extra for this hybrid that does forty five
- 27:03Speaker 2: k's and that's generous, It's silly. I mean, the only
- 27:07Speaker 2: thing is the only good thing I was thinking of
- 27:09Speaker 2: the positives is maybe the outboard power that you've got.
- 27:15Speaker 5: I mean, that stuff is fantastic because you can then
- 27:17Speaker 5: run the engine as a generator. Yeah, the problem is
- 27:20Speaker 5: the generator is going to kick on pretty early if
- 27:22Speaker 5: you really sucking the juice out of it, because the
- 27:24Speaker 5: battery is so small. So it is just a bizarre
- 27:27Speaker 5: choice to design it the way they did, and I
- 27:29Speaker 5: think that they probably made a mistake. They didn't know
- 27:31Speaker 5: what the rest of the Chinese competitors were going to
- 27:34Speaker 5: be doing, and I think they've been caught napping with this.
- 27:36Speaker 5: It is expensive, it's under resourced in terms of battery.
- 27:41Speaker 5: It's just a weird choice.
- 27:42Speaker 2: And doesn't really serve too much of a purpose. Like
- 27:45Speaker 2: to put it in perspective, I took this up to
- 27:47Speaker 2: Port Macquarie started like, I'm driving out of Sydney within
- 27:50Speaker 2: twenty five minutes half an hour that battery and I
- 27:54Speaker 2: wasn't going on full evmode at all.
- 27:55Speaker 4: I was just going in full hybrid mode. That fucking
- 27:57Speaker 4: battery had drained the time.
- 28:00Speaker 2: I was just I'm not going to stop and pull
- 28:03Speaker 2: over and charge that pissy little battery. So most of
- 28:06Speaker 2: the time I was just getting around in whatever was
- 28:09Speaker 2: left of that engine. I mean it was great. I
- 28:11Speaker 2: drove it on the SAD. I had fucking lots of
- 28:13Speaker 2: fun in that car. I love I love the Rangers.
- 28:15Speaker 2: But again, just a weird, weird choice. I'll tell you
- 28:19Speaker 2: what's bloody good. You know the little flexi brackets that
- 28:22Speaker 2: that one has and it comes in the oh yes, premium.
- 28:25Speaker 2: Those flexi brackets are great.
- 28:27Speaker 5: They were designed and engineered here in Australia, which is great,
- 28:30Speaker 5: so an Australian engineer basically designed them. They have the
- 28:35Speaker 5: patent for it, and I think that system is sensational
- 28:38Speaker 5: for people who don't know what it is. It's basically
- 28:39Speaker 5: a sports bar that using one hand you can pull
- 28:43Speaker 5: to the back of the vehicle and it will act
- 28:46Speaker 5: as effectively a ladder rack. So it means you don't
- 28:48Speaker 5: need to have this ungainly hoop at the back of
- 28:50Speaker 5: your yout. You just pull the sports bar back for
- 28:53Speaker 5: whenever you need it. It is just a genius system
- 28:56Speaker 5: and it's so cool to see that we are still
- 28:58Speaker 5: innovating with these things here in Australia. It's not all
- 29:01Speaker 5: just you know, importing stuff from China.
- 29:03Speaker 2: Yeah, and I reckon it's worth whatever it is twenty
- 29:07Speaker 2: a half grand extra.
- 29:08Speaker 4: You pay you.
- 29:09Speaker 2: But hey, we're going to wrap contact at the driver
- 29:12Speaker 2: show dot com dot you. He questions, Sorry, what was that?

- 30:31Speaker 6: but my story is strong. I come from the streets.
