- 0:26Speaker 1: going to go to Paris here in one second. Hey, Siri,
- 0:29Speaker 1: how do you say we go to Paris to welcome
- 0:32Speaker 1: aboard Ross Jackson from LouisianaSports.net and the Locked on Saints
- 0:37Speaker 1: podcast in French?
- 0:43Speaker 2: Bonjour, Ross!
- 1:03Speaker 1: So this is Ross Jackson, who those of us who
- 1:06Speaker 1: know him well know that he normally eats dinner for
- 1:09Speaker 1: the early bird specials. He's there with the old people
- 1:11Speaker 1: at like 4.30 in the afternoon and had a 2.30
- 1:15Speaker 1: dinner today in Paris.
- 1:18Speaker 2: Is that a record for you? That's a 9.30 dinner here.
- 1:22Speaker 2: Thank you very much. Oh! It's 9.30. It was a
- 1:28Speaker 2: record in that I had the latest dinner I've ever had.
- 1:31Speaker 1: Oh, we're talking body clock here. I think your body
- 1:34Speaker 1: clock thought it was 2.30 in the afternoon and said,
- 1:37Speaker 1: I am famished. It is dinner time.
- 1:39Speaker 2: I was so hungry.
- 1:42Speaker 1: I was so hungry. Okay, so I want to start
- 1:47Speaker 1: with the off-field stuff because I keep getting asked this
- 1:51Speaker 1: question over and over and over again about the riots
- 1:53Speaker 1: and the civil unrest and everything. And if it's safe,
- 1:57Speaker 1: you're there. What can you tell us?
- 2:00Speaker 2: Yeah, I watched a Parisian couple walk down the street
- 2:03Speaker 2: today sharing a baguette, and it was the most stereotypical
- 2:07Speaker 2: thing that I have seen. But it was not at
- 2:11Speaker 2: all dangerous. Now look, some of that has to do
- 2:15Speaker 2: with the area that I'm in. I'm in what's called
- 2:18Speaker 2: the 9th Eridonism, which is effectively like a neighborhood or
- 2:22Speaker 2: a district. A lot of what's going on in terms
- 2:25Speaker 2: of the protests and things like that are happening in
- 2:28Speaker 2: the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Eridonism, which is about– it's
- 2:33Speaker 2: on the other side of the river.
- 2:34Speaker 1: Where the poor people are. You're with all the rich people.
- 2:37Speaker 2: I'm over by, you know, kind of like there's like
- 2:40Speaker 2: a military base that's like two blocks away from right.
- 2:44Speaker 2: Ain't nothing going down over here.
- 2:45Speaker 1: Smart.
- 2:45Speaker 2: And so and the same thing is going to be
- 2:48Speaker 2: the case with the frost where they're going to be
- 2:50Speaker 2: playing the game as well as where they're practicing, which
- 2:52Speaker 2: will head out to Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, tomorrow through Friday.
- 2:55Speaker 2: And so as of right now, I have seen nothing
- 2:58Speaker 2: but thousands of people enjoying themselves and living their life.
- 3:02Speaker 2: I'm sure that there are other things that are going on.
- 3:04Speaker 2: It's just that for the most part, everything that's going
- 3:07Speaker 2: on NFL event-wise seems to be, to this point, completely
- 3:11Speaker 2: removed from everything that's going on otherwise.
- 3:13Speaker 1: Okay, well, that's fantastic news. So you also just noted
- 3:18Speaker 1: with a seven-hour time difference that there is obviously a
- 3:24Speaker 1: body clock travel transition that all this happens. Are you
- 3:29Speaker 1: anywhere near, have you had any availability with the team
- 3:32Speaker 1: as of yet?
- 3:34Speaker 2: Yeah, we spoke with a couple of players, Juwan Johnson
- 3:36Speaker 2: as well as Justin Reed, on Monday, the first day
- 3:39Speaker 2: that they got in.
- 3:39Speaker 1: How's that going, the transition so far to being in Europe?
- 3:47Speaker 2: Yeah, and actually I should say, probably more pertinent, I
- 3:50Speaker 2: spoke to Cam Jordan today at one of the flag
- 3:52Speaker 2: football events that was going on this morning here in Paris.
- 3:56Speaker 2: And he talked a little bit about the adjustment for
- 3:58Speaker 2: the body clock. And a lot of it was that
- 4:00Speaker 2: a lot of players, and Cam included, maybe slept about
- 4:04Speaker 2: an hour or so on the flight and then kind
- 4:06Speaker 2: of powered through until the evening and then slept kind of,
- 4:11Speaker 2: you know, on the evening clock here in Paris. And
- 4:15Speaker 2: so the thing about Paris, I think as most people
- 4:18Speaker 2: have probably heard, it is very true that this is
- 4:20Speaker 2: an up late, sleep late kind of city. And so
- 4:25Speaker 2: everything kind of like closes late, opens late, all those
- 4:28Speaker 2: things like your coffee shops open at like 8.30 a.m.
- 4:29Speaker 1: Here.
- 4:31Speaker 2: But obviously the players are going to be on an
- 4:32Speaker 2: earlier clock than that. So many of them tried to,
- 4:35Speaker 2: as I understand it, try to reset the clock last
- 4:38Speaker 2: night as well as tonight. Many of them are at
- 4:40Speaker 2: the PSG game tonight, meaning that they're not napping here
- 4:43Speaker 2: during the day, which is kind of the worst possible
- 4:46Speaker 2: thing that you can do. Stay awake until it's time
- 4:48Speaker 2: to go to bed, and then you're adjusted by Wednesday.
- 4:50Speaker 2: So that's what many of them are looking forward to doing.
- 4:53Speaker 2: A lot of them probably won't fully adjust until Thursday
- 4:55Speaker 2: or Friday, but in any case, they should be well
- 4:57Speaker 2: adjusted by the game on Sunday.
- 4:59Speaker 1: PSG, that's... That's proper football footy.
- 5:02Speaker 2: That's proper footy.
- 5:04Speaker 1: Okay.
- 5:04Speaker 2: Proper footy versus what I fear is another team.
- 5:09Speaker 1: So that makes sense. So it's not a, uh, an
- 5:12Speaker 1: intra squad scrimmage. This is actual competitive in the standings
- 5:16Speaker 1: or is it a friendly?
- 5:18Speaker 2: No, no, it's in the standings. It's apparently a very
- 5:21Speaker 2: big game that teams are playing. And that, that is
- 5:24Speaker 2: the match and they're doing it and they're playing it
- 5:27Speaker 2: on a pitch. Those are the things that I.
- 5:28Speaker 1: Know, uh, at, Stade de France?
- 5:32Speaker 2: Stade de France.
- 5:33Speaker 1: So they're playing the match today where the Saints and
- 5:37Speaker 1: Steelers will be playing on Sunday?
- 5:39Speaker 2: I do believe so, yeah. I believe that those things
- 5:41Speaker 2: are happening on the same place, and they'll do some,
- 5:43Speaker 2: you know, not turf turnover, but some field care and
- 5:48Speaker 2: things like that. Amazing, actually, what they're able to do
- 5:50Speaker 2: because of how often they have to turn over a
- 5:52Speaker 2: lot of these fields, just kind of on a standard
- 5:55Speaker 2: basis in terms of how the game is played here.
- 5:58Speaker 2: It's pretty incredible, the field maintenance and the way that
- 6:01Speaker 2: they're able to get all that done in time for
- 6:03Speaker 2: the next match, or in this case, the next game.
- 6:05Speaker 1: What? Ross Jackson's with us, LouisianaSports.net, and Locked on Saints.
- 6:09Speaker 1: He's there in Guilpaoli, hanging out with Pepe Le Pew,
- 6:13Speaker 1: eating a baguette and smoking a cigarette. I thought the
- 6:17Speaker 1: cigarette was pretty good there at the end.
- 6:19Speaker 2: That was good.
- 6:20Speaker 1: That was solid. I saw this video of Cam Jordan
- 6:22Speaker 1: hugging Mickey Mouse. There's a Disney in Paris? I didn't
- 6:25Speaker 1: even know that.
- 6:26Speaker 2: Yes, there is a Disneyland in Paris. There are several
- 6:30Speaker 2: different Disneyland's all around the world, including Tokyo and a
- 6:33Speaker 2: couple of other spots. But Disneyland Paris is one of
- 6:36Speaker 2: the bigger parks that rivals Disneyland in Anaheim. And these
- 6:42Speaker 2: are things that I know because I used to work
- 6:44Speaker 2: for the mouse. And so this is like one of
- 6:47Speaker 2: the main kind of larger Disneyland sites in the world
- 6:51Speaker 2: outside of Disneyland Tokyo and, of course, Disney World.
- 6:54Speaker 1: Were you Pluto?
- 6:57Speaker 2: No, I didn't. I was not a costume character. I
- 7:01Speaker 2: was a stage manager on the Guardians of the Galaxy
- 7:04Speaker 2: dance-off that took place in Disneyland, and I helped to
- 7:08Speaker 2: install their Frozen show that moved from Disney World to Disneyland.
- 7:11Speaker 1: You never once just snuck into the costume closet and
- 7:15Speaker 1: just pulled out Goofy's head and was like, I'm going
- 7:18Speaker 1: to go be Goofy today?
- 7:22Speaker 2: I put on the Mickey outfit once. I did do that.
- 7:25Speaker 2: I was not supposed to. I got a lot of
- 7:26Speaker 2: trouble with that, actually.
- 7:31Speaker 1: Is that why you pursued a career in sports media
- 7:34Speaker 1: instead of stage management for Disney?
- 7:35Speaker 2: Yeah, I was blackballed from theater after putting on the
- 7:38Speaker 2: Mickey costume.
- 7:40Speaker 1: Okay, so they're going to hit the practice field tomorrow.
- 7:43Speaker 1: Anything we should know about football stuff before the Saints
- 7:48Speaker 1: get back on the practice field?
- 7:49Speaker 2: Yeah, two big things we're watching right now. Jordan Tyson
- 7:53Speaker 2: made the trip out here to Paris. If the Saints
- 7:57Speaker 2: want to stick to the Week 9 timeline that has,
- 8:01Speaker 2: or if they are indeed sticking to, I should say,
- 8:03Speaker 2: the Week 9 timeline that has been reported and hypothesized
- 8:07Speaker 2: out there, this would be the week to open up
- 8:09Speaker 2: his practice window. Little strange to do it in the
- 8:11Speaker 2: midst of an international week, but also makes a lot
- 8:14Speaker 2: of sense just in terms of being able to keep
- 8:16Speaker 2: everything kind of removed and the distractions away and all
- 8:19Speaker 2: these other things. And so they could open up his
- 8:21Speaker 2: practice week here, have this week, the bye week to
- 8:23Speaker 2: continue to work with him, and then the week leading
- 8:26Speaker 2: up to week nine at home up against the Cleveland Browns.
- 8:29Speaker 2: And so this could be a big week that tells
- 8:31Speaker 2: us a little bit about the plans for Jordan Tyson
- 8:34Speaker 2: one way or another. So we'll definitely be watching out
- 8:36Speaker 2: for him. And then the other player to keep an
- 8:38Speaker 2: eye out on is going to be Kate Nellis. Kate
- 8:40Speaker 2: Nellis made the trip out here as well. He's missed
- 8:41Speaker 2: the last games with a calf injury. Getting him back
- 8:44Speaker 2: would be massive for New Orleans because there is a
- 8:47Speaker 2: big-time disparity between Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers when he's
- 8:51Speaker 2: kept clean and Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers when he's
- 8:54Speaker 2: under pressure. His completion percentage drops to the 50s from 67.7.
- 8:59Speaker 2: His passer rating drops quite a bit as well. And
- 9:02Speaker 2: so this would be getting Caden Ellis back could be
- 9:05Speaker 2: massive for New Orleans. If Jordan Tyson does return to practice,
- 9:08Speaker 2: keep in mind that that is about opening up his
- 9:10Speaker 2: 21-day practice window, and they'll likely use all of that.
- 9:13Speaker 2: It's not about trying to get him out on the
- 9:14Speaker 2: field this weekend. But for Caden Ellis, if he's back
- 9:17Speaker 2: at practice this week, they could look to get him
- 9:18Speaker 2: back as soon as this game up against Pittsburgh.
- 9:21Speaker 1: Ross Jackson, at RossJacksonNola. You can read him at LouisianaSports.net.
- 9:26Speaker 1: Listen or watch Locked on Saints. All of it free.
- 9:29Speaker 1: We appreciate it. Enjoy your baguettes, your crepes, your what
- 9:32Speaker 1: else do they eat? Coco Vin. What else do they
- 9:34Speaker 1: eat there in Paris?
- 9:38Speaker 2: Lots of wine. It's everywhere.
- 9:43Speaker 1: I'll be there in the morning.
- 9:45Speaker 2: I love it. We'll see you here. Au revoir.
- 9:47Speaker 1: Au revoir. Yours, Jackson.
