- 2:29and it has to do with an area not around here. It's in weird
- 2:30in West Virginia. But we're all in in we're all West Virginias here.
- 2:35It's just been announced within the hour that Cleveland Cliffs is going to be closing
- 2:39a mill in Weirton and it's going to cost one thousand jobs. There'll be
- 2:45one thousand folks laid off as part of that. Again, it's in weird
- 2:49and it's Cleveland Cliffs. It's a company. They've got a mill in the
- 2:52weird In area and they have announced this morning that around a thousand folks are
- 2:55going to be laid off with those jobs up there, and again we're following
- 2:59the story. Jeff and the news team are on it and we'll have more

- 3:16Good morning, It's so nice to see you today. Thank you for coming
- 3:20in and welcome back to the show. Do you have a good Valentine's name?
- 3:22Oh? Yeah, Valentine's was great. My husband and I went to
- 3:24Phaseios. Oh did you yeah? How about you can't go wrong with phaseas?
- 3:29Oh no, they're wonderful. Well, actually last night I was working.
- 3:32Last night. I had some some work related things I had to do,
- 3:37so my wife and I did not go out to Valentine's dinner. We
- 3:39may go tonight or but this weekend quick plug and I was going to mention
- 3:46this a little bit later on. I'm involved with the with the Quarterback Club
- 3:49of Marshall University and Charleston, and we have our annual Valentines dinner and dance
- 3:53at Embascy Suits and I'm going to be serving as an MC. You're a
- 3:58good friend and mine. Steve Animal from our Sister Station ninet eight seven A
- 4:00Mountain also is going to be there. What could go wrong? So this
- 4:04doesn't actually sound like a date. It sounds like you're working and you might
- 4:08take your wife with you. Yeah, she's going with me. Yeah you
- 4:10might want to make it up to it. But did anybody really ask you
- 4:13about relationship? We come on feeling a little bit bad for your wife.
- 4:17Well, trust me, this is not the only reason you should go back
- 4:20for my wife. I can give you thirty two years why you know why?
- 4:24But anyway, speaking of Valentine's Day, you had some activities on campus
- 4:29yesterday. We try, really every holiday have something going on. Yesterday we
- 4:33had a big Valentine's bash. We have students painting pictures of birds and of
- 4:39Valentine's things. Really just an opportunity to build some community and help students get
- 4:43out and meet each other. It's always fun. Just we gotta have fun.
- 4:47I mean, it's all like you know, it's all about higher education.
- 4:49But you got to have a little bit of fun here. Then you've
- 4:51got even more stuff coming up. I understand. I was perusing your social
- 4:56media and Facebook page. You get even more Valentine stuff coming up here.
- 4:59Done, we're not finished. It turns out there's a student dance even on
- 5:02Friday night, and our student government has planned all of it that They've said,
- 5:05these are things that they want to do together, and so we're just
- 5:09supportive of whatever kinds of events they want to plan on campus. They've been
- 5:13really great, good stuff we've been. We spent some time in the past,
- 5:15doctor Sachs. We're talking about this relationship partnership if you will, between
- 5:20Bridge Valley and the Putnam County Development Authority, and I'm talking about Canawa County
- 5:25FAME. Now, there was a deadline to sign up, but I understanding
- 5:28that's been extended until the fourteenth of April. Explain this FAME program again,
- 5:32of what all that entails eat so, FAME is the Federation for Advanced Manufacturing
- 5:38Education. It's a collaboration of employers who need people to work in manufacturing here
- 5:42in the area. Putnam County Development Authority works sort of as the convener and
- 5:47Bridge Valley as the education partner in the group, and so we all work
- 5:50together to help get the word out to tell people about manufacturing jobs so that
- 5:55they understand what's possible here in the valley. And then pretty often even when
- 5:59people are interested, they need some education to go along with that. So
- 6:02Bridge Valley provides the training two days a week. Then our employer partners pick
- 6:06people up and they work in the field three days a week, and it's
- 6:11a it's a completely integrated partnership. So we teach the things that employers expect.
- 6:15So a fun day one you need OSHA training. We make sure that
- 6:18on day zero you have the OCEHA training so that you're safe when you get
- 6:21on the floor. That deadline again has been extended until the fourteenth of April,
- 6:26and I'm presuming informations available on your website. It is. There's a
- 6:30dedicated FAME page. You can go to the Advanced Manufacturing Tech page. The
- 6:32Putnam County Development Authority has a page. They're all mirrored of each other,
- 6:38so wherever you land, you're finding out what's going on with FAME and how
- 6:41to get enrolled in the program. Talk with doctor Casey Sachs for Bridge Valley

- 6:49long. Get a fourteen inch small heart shaped Pepperoni pizza only fourteen ninety nine.
- 6:55Find your nearest location Hustins Pizza dot com. Doctor Sachs, you and
- 6:59I have talked in the paths about the need that employers have for drivers with
- 7:03a CDL a commercial driver's license, talk about the programs you have available for
- 7:08that. So we hear from all kinds of employers that they need people who
- 7:12have a CDL who can. Yes, long haul is absolutely one of the
- 7:15jobs that exist in CDL land. But the city of Charleston needs people who
- 7:19have CDLs. The school district needs folks who have desperate need for bus drivers.
- 7:24In West Virginia met for bus drivers. And that's a job where you
- 7:27go to work in the morning and your home at night with your kids.
- 7:30So for some people that's just a you may get snow days possibly, And
- 7:35so we have a program at Bridge Valley where we bring people in and we
- 7:40have there's several different CDL certifications you can get, so there's sort of the
- 7:45basic penal hook certification. We have some really advanced CDL simulators, so we
- 7:49can teach you to double clutch on a virtual machine before we put you in
- 7:54an actual truck so that you don't blow out the clutch on a truck.
- 7:58But then we have a couple of trucks that we put people in, and
- 8:01probably in the next two months, in a partnership with ARC, we have
- 8:05ordered new trucks that'll come in so we'll have sort of the state of the
- 8:07art equipment. We're just waiting to get those from the dealership. So,
- 8:11you know, the same way it might take you a while to get a
- 8:13car. It's taken a while to get an eighteen wheeler. It takes a
- 8:16while to get everything the last couple of years. You're right about that.
- 8:18I understand you get something going on in Clay County. We do. This
- 8:22is an amazing partnership. The Superintendent of Clay County and I have started talking
- 8:26about how we can provide college courses to as many students in Clay County as
- 8:33possible. And so the idea is, how do we scale this and make
- 8:35sure that every kid has the opportunity to take college courses, and we're looking
- 8:39specifically at career and technical education courses like welding and LPN and what is it
- 8:45that needs to happen so that students can do this. So we've been working
- 8:48with our business program sort of as a pilot, so a few students at
- 8:52Clay County have been taking business courses through Bridge Valley and we're just this week
- 8:58I was up with the Clay County School Board talking about different ways that we
- 9:01can think about expanding the program. So we're really excited to be able to
- 9:03launch a more expanded version so that even more kids have the opportunity to take
- 9:07college courses while they're still in high school. Well, I'll tell you something
- 9:11about Clay County. I when I in my former life, when I worked
- 9:13in state government, Clay County was one of the areas that I that I
- 9:16covered for the Secretary of State's Office. I spent a lot of time at
- 9:18Clay County High School. We did voter registration drives and things of that nature.
- 9:22It's a community. Maybe it's because of the it's a smaller area and
- 9:26they only have the one height, you know, the one high school in
- 9:28the county. But it's a. It's a community in Clay County that really
- 9:31does a lot around their school system. I mean, they've got students This
- 9:35past weekend at the at the Symphony here in Charlestown, saw the middle schoolers.
- 9:41That was the middle schoolers. Were you there? I was? I
- 9:45was also there here you're thinking, oh, wait a minute, Dave Allen
- 9:48was at the symphony. I was waiting. I was waiting on to play
- 9:50freebird. Uh And they did not do freebird. They did so they did
- 9:54one. But the Clay County middle schoolers were there, and Marshall was there.
- 9:58And my point is is that there's a a lot of exciting things going
- 10:01on in Clay County right now. There really are there? Are they having?
- 10:03Actually? It made me so proud of them to see that they had
- 10:05those middle schoolers and their parents who bust down to go to the symphony.
- 10:09It was a great event. What else you got going on at Bridge Valley?
- 10:11Oh my gosh, there's so many things. I think one of the
- 10:15things that maybe is not exactly Bridge Valley related is that I'm running for Kannaugh
- 10:18County school Board. Okay, we got to separate these two. Now,
- 10:22we have to have you you want to bring me back. I'll bring you
- 10:24back on that. Yes, yeah, I don't want to get you in
- 10:26any trouble there, but yeah, you are a candidate for Knaw County Board
- 10:31of Education. Totally separate at Bridge Valley. So well we'll separate that and
- 10:35have you on a meet the candidates where we don't talk about Bridge value.
- 10:37We're saying is that I get I still am the president of Bridge Valley.
- 10:41That's my day job, that's my priority. Yeah, that's a good point.
- 10:43That's a good point because the last time I had you on, somebody
- 10:46texted the show and ask about that. That's a good point that you brought
- 10:50up. So you're just letting people know that you are keeping that job,
- 10:52but you're also going to be a candidate. Next time we have you on,
- 10:56maybe, well we'll talk about your candidacy. Great, right, doctor
- 11:01Casey Sacks Abridge Valley. Give us the website for more information about anything going

- 14:18and now Mark Carter, who's a Republican candidate four House in District fifty
- 14:22seven. Mark, good morning, Welcome to the show. Good morning,
- 14:24Dave. Thank you very much for having me on today. Thank you for
- 14:26being here. Give us the bio in Mark Carter. Mark Carter, He's
- 14:31that guy. He's a he's a husband, he's a father, and he's
- 14:37a lawyer. I've been in the Canaw Valley since nineteen eighty four. I
- 14:41moved here from the state of Michigan. I fell in love with Charleston.
- 14:46That's literally true. I was working for the Attorney General's office and I decided
- 14:52to transfer from the Loyola University of New Orleans to West Virginia University in Morgantown,
- 14:58settle here and make a career here, Dave. I learned that summer
- 15:03that my grandfather had been born in Shrewsbury, and I had no idea,
- 15:07really. I then learned that summer that my family, the Carter family,
- 15:11has been in the valley since at least the late seventeen hundreds, and I
- 15:16was really coming home. I wasn't moving. That's interesting, and I've sayed
- 15:20here ever since. Was it about West Virginia that made you? I mean,
- 15:24you came here for employment? You said you worked for the Toney General's
- 15:26Office at that time. But what is it made you wanted to stay here
- 15:28other than your family lineage. It was the people, there is no doubt
- 15:33about it. That was first and foremost. The people were kind, the
- 15:37people were welcoming, The people were sharp as attack. I felt immediately comfortable
- 15:43and I was welcomed, and I'll always be grateful for that. Beyond that,
- 15:50this is one of the most beautiful states in our country and frankly in
- 15:54the world. And I was not accustomed to mountains and well part of Michigan
- 15:58were from. I grew up off the shore of Lake Michigan in southwestern Michigan,
- 16:03it was a it was a friendly town with one stop light. Now
- 16:07we have urban blight. Now we have three stoplights in that town. And
- 16:11I love my hometown, love my home state, right, but this is
- 16:14the real home state. This is your home. Yes, And that's very
- 16:17interesting that you didn't have any idea that that you had ties to this year.
- 16:22Some would say that was divine intervention. It was a goosebump moment,
- 16:25and for sure, and I'm not I'm not certain of it, but I
- 16:29wouldn't be surprised if the gold Glorid had something to do with that. Talking
- 16:33again with Mark Carter, who's Republican candidate for House in District fifty seven.
- 16:36So, with your background in state government previous and being an attorney and doing
- 16:41these other things you've done life, what made what in the world made you
- 16:44decide you want to run for hous of de Elegance. Well, I've been
- 16:45involved in politics in the state since nineteen ninety six. I really actually came
- 16:51here in nineteen eighty four and worked on a good of a toil campaign that
- 16:53year. But I have always been interested in politics. I've always been interested
- 17:00primarily in being a public servant. I've served ten years in the United States
- 17:06government. I was appointed first by President Bush to three terms with a body
- 17:11called the Federal Service Impassies Panel in DC, and then I was appointed by
- 17:15President Trump to be the chairman of that panel and served in his administration.
- 17:21We had national jurisdiction. It was a wonderful job, and I had an
- 17:26opportunity to return to Washington this year. I thought about it, and I
- 17:32decided that I could make a bigger impact on the people I care about the
- 17:36most, and that's the people here at home. I want to run this
- 17:40race because I want to see West Virginia's standard of living improved. My son
- 17:45graduated from the University of Michigan last year. He was able to get a
- 17:49job at NASA. That was a culmination of one of my goals in getting
- 17:56into politics was I wanted my son to be able to work in this state
- 18:00without financial penalty. And it's been done. We have made progress, but
- 18:06we need to make a lot more progress. I want to see that my
- 18:08neighbors coming out of the holler in a new car and not walking to a
- 18:14bus stop. We have, in my view, we deserve our people deserve
- 18:19to be paid better. We have the jobs here. Now that's great,
- 18:25but now we have to bring the standard of living up. I've been involved
- 18:27in doing that for clients across the country. I want to be involved in
- 18:32doing that for my neighbors. Now, let's talk about these specific needs of
- 18:36your district, this District fifty seven. What area are we talking about it?
- 18:40What are some of these specific needs and things you want to work on?
- 18:42If alengthed market, well, again, it coordinates well with economic development.
- 18:47So District fifty seven is the south part of the city of Charleston west
- 18:52of one nineteen, the Fort Hills section primarily. Then we have most of
- 18:56the city of South Charleston and most of this city of Dunbar. What are
- 19:00the goals. The goals are economic development in both Dunbar and South Charleston,
- 19:06and then a safe and productive place to live in West Charleston, the western
- 19:11part of Charleston on the south side of the river. I think that the
- 19:15mayors in both Dunbar and South Charleston have made excellent starts. I mean,
- 19:21Mayor Mullins in South Charleston is a dynamo and he's really made a tremendous amount
- 19:25of progress. I want to help him. I want to help him continue
- 19:27that progress and bring in more jobs the mayor and Dunbar has had a bigger
- 19:33challenge. His primary goal has been eradicating abandoned houses that have been havens for
- 19:40criminal activity. And when he got the first half of those buildings down,
- 19:47the crime rate dropped by forty percent. It's just a tremendous accomplishment. There
- 19:52needs to be more done to help him in that way, and then ultimately
- 19:57we can return these communities to the type of economic excellence that they have experienced
- 20:03in the past and need to and deserve to experience again. What could be
- 20:07done Mark under the Dome if you're elected to help some of these mayors.
- 20:12You mentioned what's gone on and done Bar, but what can the legislature do
- 20:18to further aid that effort? First and foremost, we have to ensure that
- 20:22our developmental officers, economic development officers Mitch Carmichael, Michael Graney and their staff
- 20:29are adequately funded and staffed in order to accomplish their job. They've really done
- 20:34remarkable things. They can do much more with more attention. Then we have
- 20:38to listen to the people in the communities with regard to what they need in
- 20:44order to bring in capital that's going to employ their people. Dave, I
- 20:48firmly believe that if our people are not hopeless, if they know that there
- 20:55are real job opportunities, good career opportunities in the places they live, We're
- 21:00going to see substance abuse drop. We're going to see domestic abuse drop,
- 21:04and domestic abuse takes up half of our court's time. These are horrible social
- 21:11ills, and studies demonstrate that they all get better when we address the issue
- 21:18of economic development. Talking with Mark Carter again, Republican candidate for House of
- 21:22Delegates District fifty seven, the day Valance show in five eightey lives brought to
- 21:26you apart, but General Hardware and Lumber of Windfield. Come check out the
- 21:29new contractor showroom, lumber yard and more. They deliver service and quality right
- 21:33to your door. Don't buy it till you get a quote from General Hardware
- 21:36and Lumber of Windfield. How's the campaign been so far? Mark? You
- 21:38know, I've been around campaigns a lot over the last twenty years, but
- 21:44I'd never been a candidate. I had no idea. I mean, you
- 21:47have to put together a website, you have to put together a Facebook page,
- 21:51you have to get invitations out. It is. It's been a real
- 21:56learning experience, but it's gone well. I've gotten a tremendous amount of support
- 22:00from various trade associations and activist groups like AFP. I know Jason Huffman was
- 22:06just on They have endorsed my campaign. I'm very grateful for that, and
- 22:10there are others, and there will be more announcements coming. I think it's
- 22:14going to be a very dynamic campaign. I know it's something that listen.
- 22:18I turned down a position in DC to do this because I care about it
- 22:22and I care about the people I live with. I'm going to go after
- 22:26this. Have you been keeping an eye on things so far? We're just
- 22:30a little with the session. We're just a few days on the other side
- 22:34of halfway. Have you keeping an eye monitoring things has been going on there?
- 22:38Absolutely, Just like everybody else who reads the paper listens to the news,
- 22:44I've been a little disappointed with some of the focuses of the media because
- 22:47they're focused on some bills that I am not particularly interested and I'm more interested
- 22:52in some of the bills that are moving that really go towards economic development,
- 22:57and we are making with some of those bills. There is. There's a
- 23:04really wonderful speaker right now, Roger Anshaw, who's been leading in the House
- 23:11of Delegates. But we have a lot of different interests. You know,
- 23:14there's one hundred elected officials. I think that in the next House of Delegates
- 23:18we're going to see some of the priorities change because I think there's some dynamic,
- 23:25good people that are going to be joining the legislature. Not to say
- 23:29the other ones aren't, They're going to be running for other office. But
- 23:32I think the priorities are going to change, and I intend to be a
- 23:37real mover in that regard. How do we get you talked about your son
- 23:42that what's the graduate of the University of Michigan was able to get that really
- 23:47good job, and ask, how do we get our young people mark that
- 23:51either graduate high school, graduate college, no matter what where they are.
- 23:53How do we get them to want to stay and raise families in West Virginia.
- 23:59What do we do have to be competitive economically and offer them good careers
- 24:03here? We have to have employers who are anxious, eager to hire them,
- 24:08and we do that primarily through education and Dave we got We've got a
- 24:11lot of room to grow. With regard to education, the first thing he
- 24:15said was once they graduate, how do we keep them here? Well,
- 24:18first off, we've got to get them to graduate. I googled the graduation
- 24:22rates of our major universities in the state and in the district or near the
- 24:26district. It's tough numbers, man, I mean less than fifty percent at
- 24:33Marshall University of Charleston in West Virginia State. We got to do better.
- 24:37And WU, which is our flagship university, is in the sixties. So
- 24:42we got room to grow and we and I know that there's a commitment to
- 24:48do that. Tremendous new leadership at Marshall that I think is going to be
- 24:52fantastic in that regard. But this needs to be addressed. There are three
- 24:56things we need in this state. But by virtue of most, we need
- 25:00a fair and effective labor policy. We've grown tremendously there. We need a
- 25:06taxation system that is fair and not punitive. We've grown a great deal there
- 25:11as well. Education is next to it, and that is the third leg
- 25:15on the stool. That's where we need to go. Do you have a
- 25:18website or social media up and running yet that you want to share with us.
- 25:22I just had the website go live yesterday. Really it's www. Carter
- 25:27Mark Carter for WV dot Com. And Facebook page will be up soon and
- 25:34I'm on Twitter and I'm going to be I'm going to be speaking at the
- 25:41Center right meeting on Monday. I'm going to have some appearances coming up in
- 25:45the near future. We'll be putting that on the website and hopefully on social
- 25:49media very very soon. Give me always close. I would like to close
- 25:53anyway our segment with our candidates. What's something I call the final thirty mark,
- 25:57and that's basically I give you thirty seconds and I say, why should
- 26:02people vote for Mark Carter for House of Delegates. I have I'm a lawyer
- 26:06and I've been very successful as a lawyer. I've been raided in the top

- 26:15law educates you and how to make law, how to write law, and
- 26:19I've written several bills for friends in the legislature. I have a deep commitment
- 26:25to this area. I have a deep commitment to this state. I've been
- 26:29successful for clients throughout the United States. I want to bring those skills into
- 26:33play in my home in my home state for the benefit of my friends and

- 30:03couple of texts I want to knock out here before we get to Deborah Rosnik,
- 30:07Deck says gleaming articles about the Cleveland Cliffs mill. It sounds like free
- 30:11market capitalism made the company put up the shutters. They said their playing field
- 30:15is at level with other countries. They said tariffs were needed to level the
- 30:18playing field. They want government to level the playing fields with tariffs. Isn't
- 30:22government leveling the playing field somewhat socialism? Says a Texter. Uh, and
- 30:27this is in reference to what we led this show with. This story just
- 30:30broke within the last hour. A thousand jobs and weirden are going on the
- 30:34shelf. As Cleveland Cliffs, the mill up there is going to be closing
- 30:38their doors effective in April. I think we're going to have more on that
- 30:41throughout the day WV Metro News dot Com and of course Jaff and the team
- 30:45will have more and have already and Chris has been talking about it too.
- 30:48We'll have more in that story as the as the details become available. Texas
- 30:53Dave, these social issues are getting on my nerves. Had a conservative Unhoppy
- 30:57last week say we need to take away women writes to vote and get back
- 31:00to the way it used to be. I heard that that was called a
- 31:04steam reliefs with Hoppy last week. I think that might have been a little
- 31:08tongue in cheek because sometimes you listen to the show and you hear things and
- 31:12they're so outrageous you think, now, that's probably not on the up and
- 31:15up, Texas Dave. Most of these jobs is coming here are jobs Republicans
- 31:19were against from day one, and that's green job. Biden's bills have been

- 32:15Started to quote today at brightwaymays dot com. Deborah Usnick is a candidate for
- 32:19price secuting attorney in Kanaw County. She joined us now Deborah, good morning,
- 32:22welcome back to the show. Good morning. How are you? I
- 32:23need you to move that microphone in a little closer. Our guy Mark Carter
- 32:29was I don't mean this to be mean, but he was a little different
- 32:31in size than you what you are, so I'm sure Mark wouldn't be offended
- 32:35by that. It's a fact. So you have you moved the microphone a
- 32:37little closer, so you haven't been on a couple months house of campaign been
- 32:42what you been up to been very good. I've been out in the public,
- 32:45meeting lots of people in the community. I have actually this week received
- 32:51some great news. This week I was endorsed by the West Virginia Sheriff's Association.
- 32:57I think as you previously know, I have been endorsed by the previously
- 33:00by the Charleston Firefighters Local three seventeen. Also, my boss, Chuck Miller,
- 33:05the current Kennall County Prosecutor, has endorsed me. The campaign's going great.
- 33:08I'm getting out there. I'm meeting lots of people and hearing what the
- 33:13community really wants from their next prosecutor. It can be and we've talked about
- 33:16this with others that are running not only for your race, but also any
- 33:21judicial race, magistrates or whatever. The rules are a little bit different when
- 33:25you're running for those and you can't all I mean, you've got to be
- 33:28careful what you say and so on and so forth. So hearing the campaign
- 33:31trail for a judicial candidate can be a little bit different. Sure, sure
- 33:36it is different. You know, I get a lot of questions about cases
- 33:39that we're actively working too, and it's kind of hard to tell people,
- 33:43you know, I can't really talk about that because it's currently active investigation.
- 33:46Yeah, right, right, So that's been one hurdle that people don't necessarily
- 33:52understand. But I'm able to easily explain that and get through those instances.
- 33:57Give us your bio for people that may have missed your one of your other
- 34:00appearances on the show, give us the bio on Devra Rustling. So.
- 34:02I am a lifelong resident of Keannall County. I am a Conservative Republican.
- 34:08For the majority of my legal career, I have been a prosecutor. I've
- 34:14been involved in the legal community here in Kannah County for about a decade.
- 34:19I have dedicated my entire career to prosecuting the most violent criminals in Kannak County.
- 34:25I have prosecuted murderers, child molesters, gang members. I have been
- 34:30successful in doing so. I have obtained some pretty significant sentences against some pretty
- 34:38awful people in West Virginia or in Kanah County. A couple of years ago,
- 34:43I got one of the largest sentences against a child sex abuser in the
- 34:47state. That's at seven hundred and seventy five years he was sentenced to.
- 34:52I've secured multiple life sentences against violent murderers. So I've been very active in
- 35:00the legal community and specifically in the law enforcement community. So with all that
- 35:06you've done as the assistant prosecutor and all these other things, why do you
- 35:09want to make this step up to the big chair so to speak? So
- 35:14to speak? So there are a couple of different reasons. First of all,
- 35:16I live here and I'm not going to leave Kennell County. And if
- 35:20I'm in that seat, I know how the cases are being handled, and
- 35:24I know that I feel safer knowing that I'm the one that's going to be
- 35:30supervising that the people in the office are very, very willing to step up
- 35:37and kind of do whatever it takes to pitch in to move forward with all
- 35:43of these cases. And I think I've kind of gotten off track and the
- 35:45initial question there, Dave, But I do think that the experience that I
- 35:52have will allow me to be the better candidate here, and I believe that
- 35:59my position now has allowed me an insight into what the elected prosecutor's position is
- 36:06really about, because it's not all about just trying these cases. It's about
- 36:09oversight of an office that has over forty employees. It's about being able to
- 36:15teach people, and about being able to have people that want to learn from
- 36:20you, that respect you, and that are willing to step up with the
- 36:23same goal that I have. And I think if you staff an office with
- 36:28people with that shared goal, then you're able to create a machine basically that
- 36:36will allow us to reduce the crime rate we have here in Kenack County.
- 36:40Debora roussan candidate for Prosecuting Attorney Knaw County, but Dave Allen Chewing. Five

- 37:05start your Journey towards Better Health Today, Deryroe. What are some of the
- 37:08biggest challenges that you see in the court system daily. We have a very
- 37:14hard time getting victims to show up, particularly victims of violent crimes. We
- 37:22understand there's a lot that goes into play. I can't imagine being on the
- 37:27victim side of these things, being the person that has encountered whatever sort of
- 37:31behavior that they have been subjected to, and so a lot of times that
- 37:36hinders them from wanting to move forward with the case. And particularly if we're
- 37:40talking about certain types of domestic cases, then you're dealing with someone who has
- 37:46a relationship with the offender and who may be hesitant to move forward. So
- 37:52that's one of the biggest challenges we have is to be able to have the
- 37:55victim's present in court every time we need them, and that does it does
- 38:00pose a problem because oftentimes we can't move forward with a case absent testimony of
- 38:05a victim. Yeah, if you don't have the victim buy in if you
- 38:08will, and their testimony, then there's pretty much no case. In a
- 38:13lot of cases, that's the case of how many times can I say case
- 38:15in one sentence? But do you understand what I'm trying to say? There?
- 38:17I do? I do? And you know there are times when we
- 38:21are presented with cases that there's evidence outside of a victim statement, But largely
- 38:28even if we have that evidence, we can't just move forward without a victim
- 38:32statement. And of course, drugs we all know that, I mean,
- 38:37depending on what statistic you look at, as so to West Virginia, what
- 38:43drugs are part of the issue eighty percent of the time ninety five I mean,
- 38:46or somewhere in that general vicinity in some way, one way or the
- 38:51other. Huge portion of these cases we have stem from some sort of drug,
- 38:57even even if it is to deal with domestic situation. Sometimes absolutely,
- 39:01when we talk about the drug epidemic, that is exactly what it is,
- 39:06an epidemic. It's a problem. And I think we may have talked about
- 39:09this the last time I was on here. As a prosecutor, it's very,
- 39:13very difficult to determine what individuals that are charged with crimes actually have a
- 39:21drug problem and what defendants are using a drug problem as an excuse to get
- 39:25out of jail. Are we dealing with someone who really wants rehabilitation and who
- 39:30really needs that treatment to be able to become a successful and progressive member of
- 39:37our society, or are they just saying I want drug treatment so they can
- 39:42get out of jail. And that's one of the biggest challenges that we face
- 39:45is knowing who those people are so that we're putting the right people in the
- 39:51drug rehab facilities because they're full, they're filling up, and we get consistently
- 39:55get the response, well, the beds are full, we don't have any
- 39:59room. We want to make sure we're stacking those beds with people who really
- 40:04want help. And so that's a challenge, but we've been we've been pretty
- 40:07good at being able to determine who those people are. What makes you the
- 40:12better candidate for prosecuting attorney. At the end of the day, you know,
- 40:16it's about experience, it's about tenacity, it's about fitness for office.
- 40:25In fact, on Monday, the legislator introduced House Bill fifty six y ten
- 40:31that will require anyone running for prosecutor or sheriff to disclose their arrest record.
- 40:38I don't know if the bill will pass. I hope it does regardless,
- 40:43I can disclose mine now. I've never been arrested, I've never been held
- 40:47in contempt of court. I've never had a criminal investigation against me, and
- 40:53I would challenge my primary opponent to come onto this show and answer those questions.
- 40:58Okay, would you be willing to have a debate, a discussion with
- 41:05your with your primary opponent under the right circumstances. Yes, okay, All
- 41:08right, Well, there you go, it's out there. See what you
- 41:12can make it happen. Give me the final thirty, Final thirty? Why
- 41:15should peop vote for Debora Usnik Canada for Prosecuting Attorney in Kanawa County? Again,
- 41:19At the end of the day, I have dedicated my entire professional career,
- 41:22the better part of a decade, to fighting criminals in this county.
- 41:28I have worked side by side with law enforcement officers that I have earned their
- 41:30respect, and I believe that's why I was endorsed by the Sheriff's Association.
- 41:36These law enforcement officers are out here every day fighting crime. They see what
- 41:40I'm doing in the courtroom, and I think after reviewing all of the applications,
- 41:45it was determined that I was the most experienced and most qualified candidate for
- 41:47that endorsement, and I think that speaks volumes. Do you have a website

- 45:23beyond Huntington truly making a difference right here at home. See a video highlighting
- 45:29the Special Olympics at Facebook dot com slash five adwcchs Tex says it wouldn't be
- 45:34surprising if conservative wanted to take women's right to vote. They already think husbands
- 45:38should be allowed legally to sexually assault their wives. Texas Dave, Are there
- 45:44any Democrats left in West Virginia, Well, there's a few. I had
- 45:47the state Democratic Party chair and House of Delegates member Mike Pushkin on the show
- 45:52yesterday, and we have we have some, not as many as mister Pushkin
- 45:57and other Democrats would like, but there is a major shift that has happened.
- 46:01There's no doubt about it. You don't need that's Captain Obvious talking there.
- 46:06It's been a major shift in the affiliation of voters in West Virginia over
- 46:12the last few years. And we could take four or five days on this
- 46:15show and discuss why that is and why people are leaving the Democratic Party.
- 46:19I think there is something This is more than what the textra asks. I
- 46:22think there's something to be said for all politics. They used to say all
- 46:25politics are local. Now they say all politics are national. And I think
- 46:30that a lot of people aren't extremely happy with what they see on the national
- 46:37level of a Democrat, whether it be President Biden, whether it be AOC
- 46:42or whomever. And they think that if they're voting for Knall, let's say
- 46:45kena county music, let me use a county away from here. If they're
- 46:47voting for the county commissioner or surveyor of work county that they're necessarily tied into
- 46:53the national party. So that but to answer your question, there are Democrats,
- 46:58but they are they're dropping in numbers. If you're looking for something to
- 47:00do tonight, go join my long Haired Freaky People and our sister Station ninety

- 48:04our sister station nine eight seven A Mountain. I'm going to attempt to see
- 48:07if the old guy here still has the ability to do music radio. Because

- 48:21com or download the Odyssey app if you'd like to check it out. Let's
- 48:24see what the old guy can do. So last night a big turnout for
- 48:28the public hearing about the postal distribution center out at South Rage. Jered Lewis
- 48:31with the story post at wv metronews dot com. Around two hundred people showed
- 48:36up and around thirty or so spoke I think last night. Now, since
- 48:38November, this distribution center has been under review by the Postal Service and there's
- 48:44been talk of moving the operations from here to the Pittsburgh area. The Postal
- 48:50Service findings of the review said that the South Ridge Center needs about twenty to
- 48:55thirty million dollars in investments to stay running and to make it profitable. And
- 49:02some of those folks spoke. There's actually not ad written in the exect mail
- 49:06from one of the postal folks yesterday saying there's been a lot of misinformation and
- 49:09so on and so forth out there. Members of the union and others,
- 49:14including a representative for Senator Mansion. Of course, Senator Mansion was on the
- 49:17show yesterday. A representative, Brian Allowiz from Senator Mansion's office spoke, and
- 49:24you know, basically they said they don't believe what the Postal Service officials are
- 49:29saying. It was a long meeting, as I said, about two hundred
- 49:32people showed up. About thirty or so spoke. Jared Lewis has got the
- 49:35story posted at wv metronews dot com. The Dave Allen showing five Any Live
- 49:39is brought to you a part by Morgan and Morgan with more than twenty billion
- 49:44dollars recovered. They believe that when you're injured, you deserve more. Morgan
- 49:46and Morgan is America's largest injury law firm in Texas. Dave all the candidates
- 49:54for Kanawa County Prosecutor need to address Mayor Goodwin's accusation that are Charleston Lelice department
- 50:00officers have quote high solve rates, but the prosecutors keep making plea deals and
- 50:05otherwise not prosecuting unless it's a sure fire win. Then these scumbags end up
- 50:09back in the alley behind my house doing drugs and pushing a buggy full of
- 50:15stolen goods, it says a Texter. It's kind of been already. The
- 50:21morning of Breaking News, we talked about the situation with cliffs and weird and
- 50:23well, this story broke within the last couple of hours. Updates on the
- 50:28story. The companies for Governor Justice are asking for a preliminary injunction to block
- 50:34the auctioning off of the Greenbrier Sporting Club. Now, of course, this
- 50:39was the lead story when I went on the air of this morning wv Metronews
- 50:43dot com. This is kind of an update on some things we already knew,
- 50:45but apparently there these attorneys now are asking for this preliminary injunction, and
- 50:50we'll be reporting about it throughout the day. There are new things being added
- 50:53to the story almost every thirty minutes, So Dave Wilson is in for Hoppy
- 50:58on talk Line this week ten of six. He'll have more on that as
- 51:02it becomes available. Under the Dome today, the bill that would allow teachers
- 51:08to carry guns or stun guns is headed to the Full House now. This
- 51:14would be for teachers, administrators, support personnel, and others. It's HB
- 51:17forty two ninety nine. And also the Women's Bill of Rights, which Mike
- 51:25Pushkin unsuccessfully yesterday tried to change to the Women's Bill of Wrongs. That he
- 51:30mentioned that on the show. I thought he meant it as a joke.
- 51:32He actually tried to get it changed to that yesterday didn't work. The bill
- 51:37itself did pass. It codifies the definitions of man and woman, among other
- 51:43things, and it will continue to be argued. Brad of course, is
- 51:46standing by at the Capitol throughout the day with the latest of the website and
- 51:51also on social media and on air as well. Text says throughout US history,
- 51:55conservative Democrats have switched to a publican after minorities gain more equality. Why
- 52:01is that? Get into that on a future show, and it's several I'm
- 52:07keep making notes of things I want to talk about on the show. So
- 52:10one of those is what is it that the media talks about? Because we've
- 52:14been called out by a few people medium, myself others for talking about the
- 52:20hot button issues not the other stuff. So I'm gonna maybe address that on
- 52:22a show in the near future. Coming up on tomorrow show, Hannah Gardner
- 52:25from the kenaw charlest New Main Association with this week's adopt Me Please Put to
- 52:29the week Canon Anty Commissioner Ben Selango is on the show tomorrow, The folks
- 52:34from Something Good Soul Food Ryan are going to be stopping by tomorrow, and
- 52:37meteorologist Brian Hughes on the weekend Snow Coming up, Dave Wilson in for Happy

- 52:45and love somebody fighting at six, and then Charleston one O four point five
