- 2:37I've actually been on the show before before he rose to international fame and fortune,
- 2:42talking about Derrek Evans. Good morning, Sarah, Welcome to the show.
- 2:45Hey, good morning Dave. Thanks for having me on the show man,
- 2:46I appreciate it. Thank you for being here now. You were on
- 2:50the show a couple of years ago when you were wandering for running for the
- 2:52legislature, a race that you won but then had to step down from.
- 2:55So I'm gonna go ahead and address the proverbial elephant in the proverbial room,
- 3:00sir, your side of what happened on January sixth, Well, I mean,
- 3:06obviously, first, I want to say that the election was stolen from
- 3:09President Trump and the American people, and I'm the only elected legislator in the
- 3:14entire country. You had the courage to go stand with the American people that
- 3:15day to peacefully and patriotically protest. I was not violent, I was not
- 3:21destructive. Everything is on video, I feel and go to my social media
- 3:24page, then watch the video for themselves. I walked an open set of
- 3:28doors. I thank the police officer for his service. The same police officer
- 3:31gives me a friendly fist bump inviting me into the building. I said,
- 3:35God bless you, sir, thank you for your service. I still less
- 3:38than ten minutes inside the public rotunda area, exercising my natural, God given
- 3:42right to free speech. Think. The police officer again walked out the same
- 3:46set of doors I entered, and the same weaponized deep state that's currently going
- 3:49after President Trump. I was the only elected Republican I could get their hands
- 3:53on. So they came to my house in West Virginia, riched me away
- 3:55from my wife and my four young children, threw me in solitary confinement,
- 3:59held me hostage as a January sixth political prisoner. So, if you say
- 4:03it was peaceful, and I'm willing to give you a benefit your LEA sure
- 4:06part was why did you why did you show up in an army helmet?
- 4:10I mean people will only do that, you know, if it's a peaceful
- 4:13protest. Sir, Well, you don't normally have Antifa BLM people beating people
- 4:16up throughout the summer either, and then the month before in DC, that's
- 4:20not something that's very typical either. So most of the people who showed up
- 4:25there wearing some sort of helmet or whatever else was there in case they were
- 4:30to be attacked by Antifa BLM, which had happened the month before and happened
- 4:32through all throughout the year. So that having been said, why do you
- 4:36want to run for Congress? Well, I think it's pretty simple. This
- 4:41is one of the reddest districts in the entire country. We deserve a Freedom
- 4:46Caucus member who want to stand on the national stage and beat the drummer freedom
- 4:48not only for southern West Virginia, but for every single god fearing American conservative
- 4:54across the country. We don't have that right now. That's what I'm going
- 4:57to bring to the table. And quite frankly, this weaponization of government is
- 5:00getting out of hand. What they did to me is what they want to
- 5:02do to every single conservative Christian across this country. And I'm going to use
- 5:06my experience, the terrible experience I went through, take that to VC and
- 5:12try to prevent this from happening to other people. So what do you think
- 5:15that Carol Miller has not done as a congresswoman. Well, I think we
- 5:18should it be easier to talk about the things she has done. She's voted
- 5:21to send billions and billions of our tax dollars to Ukraine. She's voted to
- 5:26fund the Green New Deal. She helped roll out the red carpet for Bill
- 5:29Gates when he came to West Virginia to bring his globalist agenda here, which
- 5:32we do not need. She voted to force our military members to force them
- 5:38to receive the COVID vaccine if they wanted to continue their career in the military.
- 5:41These are all things that I do not stand for I believe in the
- 5:44Constitution. I believe individual freedom, individual liberty, I believe in limited government.
- 5:47It was up to me, I would like to defund and abolish all
- 5:51these federal unconstitutional three letter agencies and return the power back to the states where
- 5:56it belongs. Why do you say their own constitutional, sir, Well,
- 6:00they are unconstitutional. They are. We have unelected bureaucrats who are creating laws
- 6:04and enforcing laws and running our country behind the scenes right now with no accountability.
- 6:10The federal government was formed by the state, not the other way around,
- 6:14and right now there's too much power at the at the federal level.
- 6:16This power is supposed to be originate the local level and work its way up
- 6:20where there's actual accountability. Talking again with Derrick Gevins, who is a candidate
- 6:26for Congress on five to eighty live in the Dave Allen Show, Let's go
- 6:30back to January sixth. Do you have any regrets at all about that day?
- 6:33Sir? No, I really, really, I don't not for what
- 6:38I did. No, I didn't do anything violent or destructive. I stood
- 6:42up for what I believe in. I stood there peacefully and patriotically exercised by
- 6:46natural God given rights. I think people have to remember that our rights do
- 6:50not come from the government. Our rights come from God, our creator.
- 6:53And the Constitution was written for really one reason. It was written to prevent
- 6:57the government from infringing on our natural, God given rights. And so I
- 7:00was there that day exercising those natural, God given rights of free speech.
- 7:03I regret that the most powerful corrupt government in the history of the world decided
- 7:11to label me and come after me. I regret that the fake news media
- 7:15slung my name to the mud and spread lies about me. But that's that's
- 7:19one of the things that's going to make me dangerous to the establishment, to
- 7:24the deep state as a member of Congress, and that's why the American people
- 7:27are gonna love me. I don't there's nothing this federal government can do to
- 7:30me that they haven't already done. There's nothing the fake news media can say
- 7:32about me that they haven't already said. I don't have to tiptoe around any
- 7:35of those things. I'm not running to make friends. I'm not running to
- 7:39play patty cake politics. I'm running to kick in the front door and expose
- 7:42the corruption in DC. Why did you plead guilty sir, well, there
- 7:47comes a time when you realize that there's no winning in DC. We see
- 7:53these corrupt judges, we see a corrupt court system. We have a tainted
- 7:56Jerry pool. They recuse them to move it the trials out of DC to
- 8:00where if people can get a fair trial, they're excused to give you exculpatory
- 8:03evidence, which they're supposed to be doing under the Brady Rule. And so
- 8:07I've got four kids, you're faith in twenty four years in prison essentially more.
- 8:11And it becomes comes to a situation of you. You look around,
- 8:15you say, there's no way to win. How do we lose the least
- 8:18amount? That way we can circle back around and live to fight another day.
- 8:22And that's what I chose to do. How's the campaign been? Campaign
- 8:26is going great right now. We you know, we're excited. We got
- 8:31we out fundraised Congress froman Carol Miller last quarter. We believe we're probably gonna
- 8:35out fundraised her again this quarter. We're probably getting close to ten thousand donors
- 8:39at this point. We're endorsed by General Flynn, Mike Lindell, Veterans for
- 8:43Trump, Oil and Gas Workers Association. We think things are looking good.
- 8:48Right now, the people in West Virginia are not happy with the current moderate
- 8:54if you will, representation that we're getting in d C. Once again,
- 8:58this is one of the redistricts in the country. People are hungry and wanting
- 9:01someone who's going to stand up and fight back against the deep state who's infringing
- 9:05on our rights here in West Virginia, and they know without a doubt that
- 9:09I'm going to do that. Where can people learn more about your campaign,
- 9:11Dereck. Yeah, they can go to our website Evans four WV dot com.
- 9:16That's Evans e V A n S four WV dot com. You can
- 9:20head over there learn more about our campaign. You can follow me on any
- 9:24of the social media sides, Facebook, Twitter, you know, ax,
- 9:26whatever it's called now, all those good places. So yeah, as as
- 9:30I do with every candidate, Darik, I'm going to give you what I
- 9:33call the final thirty, uninterrupted by me. Why should people vote for Derek
- 9:37Avans? Well, First, thank thanks for having me on man, I
- 9:39appreciate it. Thanks for asking the tough questions. Saw away from questions Iven,
- 9:43I can reach out to me and ask questions as well. But like
- 9:46I said, man, this is one of the reddest districts in the entire
- 9:48country. We have a very moderate representative. Carol Miller has a sixty five
- 9:52percent liberty score right now, meaning she votes with the Democrats thirty five percent
- 9:56of the time. One of the things I forgot to mention she also voted
- 10:00to help fund abortion through Obamacare, taxpayer funded abortion. I'm running a kick
- 10:05in the front door expose the corruption in DC and bring a conservative voice to
- 10:09this district to DC. So love, love being on the show, appreciate
- 10:15it and looking forward to representing the people in DC. All Right, Derek,
- 10:18I wish you the best of luck in the campaign. We'll talk again
- 10:20soon. Man, Thanks a lot, Hey, thank you, appreciate it.
- 10:22Night nine to seventeen. Derek Evans again candidate for Congress on the Republican

- 10:41salary match. They can also supply a skilled graduates and apprenticeships for your company.
- 10:43Visit Bridge Valley do edu slash apprenticeships. Today, we've got Mayor Amy
- 10:48good One coming up here in a matter of moment's spread Persinger, and we're
- 10:50talking them a little bit about the closing the budget tapes and records. Before
- 10:54we get to the mayor. Before get a break, though, allow me
- 10:58to say, Yeah, I got a bunch of text to get about Derek
- 11:00Evans being on the show, and we'll get to those here in a matter
- 11:03of moments. Allow me to say this, I can't possibly read all the
- 11:07text that I've gotten since I announced last week that mister Evans would be on
- 11:11the show today. It started last week with texts and emails, direct messages
- 11:13on social media. Some are upset that I would give Derek Evans time on
- 11:18the show, and I've made no secrets on my thoughts on Donald Trump.
- 11:24In January sixth, it was probably the darkest day on my time on Earth,
- 11:30and that takes in fifty three and a half years, many ways worse
- 11:33than nine to eleven, because the enemy came from within this time, not
- 11:37from abroad. That having been said, you have to understand Derek Evans is
- 11:43a legitimate candidate for Congress a district one. I may not like it,
- 11:46you may not like it, but it is what it is. And if
- 11:50you've learned nothing about Dave Allen in the nearly four years I've done this show,
- 11:54it's this. I'm a firm believer in free speech, whether I agree
- 11:58with it or not. I never once turned down a request from someone wanting
- 12:03to be on this show, political candidate or otherwise. Derk Evans people reached
- 12:07out to me last week about him coming on the show, and I said
- 12:11yes. And if you have a problem with free speech, whether you and
- 12:15I agree with what the guests on the show are saying, then it's probably
- 12:18is not the show for you. I feel that everyone deserves a voice.
- 12:22I catch just as much flak for having Mike Pushkin and Greg Thomas on the
- 12:28show as I've gotten with Derek Evans. There are people in this world who
- 12:33don't want to hear any other thoughts or beliefs other than their own, and
- 12:37that's quite unfortunate. And this show, as long as I host it will
- 12:45continue to be a show. We're all voices, all voices will be heard,
- 12:52so there Tex says, does derk Evans understand he's still a convicted criminal.
- 12:58Think he does. Tex says, kicking in the front door is probably
- 13:01not a phrase the guy like Derek Evan should be using, says a Texture.
- 13:05Tex says, why what a piece of work. I'd love to see
- 13:09his actual proof the election was stolen. He needs therapy and a real job,
- 13:13not a seat in government, says a Texas says he's a sucker and
- 13:18loser. Trump speaks of anti American, supports dictatorship and takeover of democracy.
- 13:22Got news for Maga, It's not going to happen. Tex says If every
- 13:26conservative Christian storm the Capitol while wearing a motorcycle helme like Derek, then yeah
- 13:31they should be punished like he was, says a Texture. But Ave Island

- 17:37not here for tourism, but I'm just gonna go ahead and say it.
- 17:38Wvtourism dot com. This is a beautiful travel guide. I've seen that.
- 17:42It's gorgeous. You can get it for free and it talks about all of
- 17:45the wonderful places that you can go in West Virginia if you like to eat,
- 17:49shop hike. That was my their free commercial once a tourism person always
- 17:56the tourism Yeah, I mean they're just killing it. I mean, you
- 17:59know, Elsea Ruby, the secretary and her entire team, they're just killing
- 18:03it stuff that I see produced and it's just absolutely wonderful because that's why we're
- 18:08actually all, you know, in what we do. We we love where
- 18:12we are and you can tell that the people who work at tourism love what
- 18:17they do because this guide is one of the best. It's really good.
- 18:21I ahead on last week the CEO of the of the Bicycle I Know that
- 18:27are coming to Tim Brady was able to set that up. Man. That
- 18:30is an absolutely fantastic, huge event for Charles to give it up, it's
- 18:34absolutely huge. We are so thrilled to have it, to have secured this
- 18:40cycling event and the best bikers in the country, the best bikers. It's
- 18:45the biggest week in bike racing. What's really neat about this is the folks
- 18:52who win the elite men's and women's time trials. This year automatically qualify for
- 18:59the Olympic Game in Paris. That's big. So the folks that you see
- 19:03cycling in Charleston, West Virginia, you're going to be able to see compete
- 19:07in the Olympics, which is just amazing. Lots of moving parts to get
- 19:11this. Obviously, our CVB did an amazing job, and I will give
- 19:15credit where credit is due. Also our local cycling community. They're also the
- 19:19reason why we got this, you know, to the likes of Teddy Armbreckton,
- 19:22Todd Goldman and so many who literally put this together for us and met
- 19:29the team when they came in, Jack Hoblitzel Bradley Schmaltzer, and they wooed
- 19:36him and they said, we get biking, we get road racing. Let
- 19:38us help you that. And the guy who runs the road race, the
- 19:44guy who literally sets up and says, okay, we can take this route
- 19:45or we should do this route said to us, said to me as late
- 19:51as last week, you got great roads. I said, don't say that
- 19:52too loud. It's pothole season right now. We're dealing. We're filling a
- 19:56lot of potholes right now. But he said, we would have never come
- 20:00here, had you not put in the infrastructure in your roads. Now we
- 20:03got a lot of work to do for sure, But for the event,
- 20:06we're fired up. It's kind of it is going to be wonderful. We
- 20:10called it last week, Dave. We came up with the Chris, one
- 20:14of the guys who helps run this event for USA Cycling. He said,
- 20:17Amy, it's like a rolling regatta, and he's not wrong. It's like
- 20:22a rolling regidles. And when you see these bikers go Upbridge Road and down
- 20:26Louden as fast as they can several times, several times, I mean talk
- 20:32about puke on your shoes, I said last week. And when I had
- 20:36the Gillimanana, I said, I want to drive that sometimes. If you've
- 20:37ever walked out Bridge Road, and I have, it's hard to walk up
- 20:41my friends slowly to Dave Alan on five and and I brought you a part
- 20:45by General Hardware and Lumber of Windfield. From kitchens to paints, decks,
- 20:48straight framing, would roofing, metal, everything else you need, you'll fight
- 20:52a General Hardware and Lumber of Windfield. I've got Fred Persinger coming up a
- 20:55little bit later on the show. Mayor the Girls and Boys stay basketball tournament
- 20:59tip off now with four classes. Quite a tip off tomorrow, the girls,
- 21:02the boys next Tuesday. A lot of folks heading into Charleston this week.
- 21:04Monk. I'm so excited about it. And I am always reminded when
- 21:07I was in high school and I played basketball and we came to States and
- 21:12then coming down to watch the boys basketball game, driving down and then driving
- 21:17back. My parents would never let me spend the night. It was wonderful.
- 21:21It was wonderful then. It's wonderful now to watch these great competitions happen.
- 21:26And obviously I'd be remiss if I didn't say yay Charleston. Not only
- 21:30do we have basketball, but we just secured football and the one that I've
- 21:36really wanted. And you know, Tim Brady laughed at me the second I
- 21:40got in a office. It was like the first or second week, I
- 21:41said, I want cheer We lost cheer. I want cheerback, because cheerleading
- 21:47is a serious sport that brings in serious dollars for the city of Charleston,
- 21:52and they did Huntington, and Huntington was a great place, certainly, and
- 21:56certainly my hat off to all of the cities who compete in these but I'm
- 22:00so thrilled to have not only volleyball back, but football new and also back
- 22:07since twenty or twenty eighteen cheerleading fired up about it. I want to ask
- 22:12about the football thing before we move on to some other things and what all
- 22:17went into that. I know you can't necessarily get into all the specifics,
- 22:19but Charleston, I mean, Wheelings had it since nineteen ninety four I think
- 22:22it was, and Bluefield was into Ronnington. There was a combo deal put
- 22:26together where it would rotate between WVU and Marshall. They kind of worked together
- 22:30on that, but Charleston got it back. I mean, what exactly did
- 22:36it take to get that? Sure? I think and I'm not trying to
- 22:37be cute or coy with this answer. Dave a lot of hard work from
- 22:41a lot of folks. Commissioner Slang who called me months ago and said,
- 22:45hey, let's do this. Let's put together a team and let's start figuring
- 22:49out what are the things that we need to do. Listen, have you
- 22:52been to Laidley. You know it needs some TLC. But we've got Joe
- 22:56Varney over there and making accommodations and figuring out what are the things in which
- 23:00we need to improve upon. And that's what everybody needs to think about when
- 23:04we're competing for these events. Listen, it's not just because hey, I
- 23:07like this person, or this is about the athletes. It's about the coaches.
- 23:12It's about logistics too. How do we feed them, how do we
- 23:15get them out? Where are they going to stay? It's not just about
- 23:18oh oh shucks, it's in this city, not this city because so and
- 23:22so is this person, or so and so knows this person. It really
- 23:25doesn't have anything to do with it. It's a competition to get these I
- 23:29say all the time. Actually I started with this right tourism. We look
- 23:33like the fun people, don't we We look like the Yay. It's a
- 23:37business. It's a business, That's what this is. It's a business,
- 23:40and it's a good business to be in because the return on investment you get,
- 23:44especially for travel sports tourism, is monumental. And you know, our
- 23:48CVB team here in Charleston knows that they know it quite well. But I
- 23:52will say this, I know Wheeling and I know the island field like the
- 23:56back of my hand, Dave. I have been there probably more times as
- 24:00many folks have been in Charleston, not only watching, but I grew up
- 24:03there. It's it was a great facility and they had what what wheeling special
- 24:07sauce is. Uh, like a lot of our communities, they had unbelievable
- 24:12volunteers, unbelievable parents of the athletes who also help put that together. And
- 24:18so for many and we're gonna have to step up, by the way,
- 24:22We're gonna have to prove that because it's gonna have a special sauce that we
- 24:26need to make sure we have ours. It's kind of like the dog catching
- 24:30the car. Got it now, you got it? And you said it
- 24:33yourself. I mean, ladley Field University Charleston Stadium is need some work,
- 24:37you bet, and you've got a short time to do it. Absolutely,
- 24:41you know, I think and you know I heard Tim Brady say this the
- 24:44confidence he has in Joe Varney Ayako that uh, this is a this is
- 24:48a an aggressive team. This is a team that wants good and listen,
- 24:52there's a lot of pressure to get it right. Okay, Yeah, just
- 24:55like you said, we got it, Now what are we going to do?
- 24:57But it really takes a lot of that volunteer aspect. It takes the
- 25:03parents of the athletes and the cheerleaders and the band members to really come together
- 25:07to say, Okay, y'all wanted this, now let's make it happen.
- 25:11Surely there is a great return on investment that we have, but make no
- 25:17mistake about it, people are going to be watching us with a magnifying glass
- 25:22on all of these things and saying we want it back or will take this,
- 25:26and so it's a you know, all is fair in love and war,
- 25:29for sure, but we've got to put our best foot forward on this.
- 25:33Since the last time you were on Mayor, we have a new police
- 25:36chief we do in Charlestonia and deputy. Yeah, the interim title has been
- 25:40removed. Mister Dempsey is now the chief. As you said, there's also
- 25:44a new deputy chief deputy as well. Your comments on those, Yeah,
- 25:48Scott Dempsey and Jason Webb are two dynamos. They're absolutely fantastic officers. In
- 25:55this interview process and it was time consuming by design. The applic cation was
- 26:00extensive by design because I wanted to make sure that moving forward, this is
- 26:07the way you are selected. You want to be chief of police by the
- 26:10way, you should be able to compete with every single police officer, not
- 26:12only in your department, but in the state and across the country. I
- 26:15interviewed people within the department, within the state, and across the country for
- 26:19this position. Integrity, hard work, and here's the here's the thing.
- 26:26I go back to every single officer that I interviewed. Sand's the one who
- 26:30was out of the state of West Virginia. I said, if you are
- 26:36not the chief of police, who is almost every single part there was one
- 26:41guys said, oh, that's a really great question. Let me think about
- 26:42that. And I never did every single one of them. We're talking,
- 26:45I mean close to nine, said Scott Dempsey. Like that, no pause,
- 26:52Scott, Why because he's no Joe. He has integrity, he has
- 26:57honor, he's hard working. He's not going to tell you everything you want
- 27:00to hear. But I will say that that's one person, right, That
- 27:03is one person in an apartment, like a mayor is one person in the
- 27:07city. It takes a good team around them. And I know we're going
- 27:11to run out of time, but I have to say this. On Friday
- 27:12night, I made a call too, because you know, we always hear
- 27:18and it does make news when an officer, you know, somebody gets in
- 27:21trouble, right or somebody makes a mistake. Oh boy, it's on the
- 27:25front page. It's we're talking about it on the radio. On Friday night,
- 27:29I called an officer and I want to get into details because I don't
- 27:32want to talk about the family because this is a private situation. Officer Adam.
- 27:37Okay, Officer Adam will come. I called him because you know what
- 27:41he did this past week. He got a call from parents who are parents
- 27:45have a child with autism and was having a bad day and needed help.
- 27:51They called the Charleston Police Department to help them. An officer Adam went to
- 27:55their house and he sat with them and he talked through them and they were
- 27:59worried about health issues with him. So he worked through sitting with our MS
- 28:03team with this young man who is not having a good day. That's the
- 28:08kind of stuff you get in the Charleston Police Department. We just don't talk
- 28:11about it a lot. But you know that's something that Chief Dempsey does and
- 28:17Jason Webb does, and that's what we're going to continue to do. Sure
- 28:21we have bad days, but man, o day, we have more good
- 28:22days than we do bad days. Quick text asked the mayor to look into
- 28:29cleaning up the housing situation along Crescent Road on the west side between Garrison Avenue
- 28:33and Market Drive. This area can be easily observed for my seventy seven Southoun
- 28:37Lane looks really deplorable to outsiders traveling through the city. Got it? Thank
- 28:41you? All right? Noted, Let's take a quick phone call and then
- 28:45and I want to talk about the Woolworth anniversary before we let the mayor go.
- 28:48Yes, our friend Jim is here. Go ahead, Jim, Good
- 28:52morning, Mayor. How are you? Good morning, my friend Jim.
- 28:56How are you most important? Well, I'm going okay. I am now
- 29:00in Richie County. I had to have a toe ancicated on my left foot
- 29:07because of the insect. Now I'm doing well. I have to have a
- 29:11twenty four hour care, which you know. I'm not glord of us.
- 29:15I know you're not. Your spirit won't let you. I saw that.
- 29:18I saw Amanda opposed to that. Nandrew and I were actually from our team
- 29:22in the Mayor's office. We were just talking about you on Wednesday. But
- 29:26I am so glad to hear your voice, and I'm so glad that you
- 29:30still stay so connected to all of us. You're a shining like Jim.
- 29:33I wanted to ask you what kind of TILC is on the books to do
- 29:37in three years of auditorium, because then he is a US cheerful icon and
- 29:45it don't need to have the wrecking ball, no. I you know what.
- 29:48I appreciate your comments more than anything, Jim. I will say this
- 29:52safety is number one. And what is happening right now is a total assessment
- 29:56to see what needs to be done their short term fixes, long term fixes,
- 30:02and what's going to be the cost of making those things happen. So
- 30:04we're in the process of that right now, Jim. She has served us
- 30:08well, to be sure, but we've got to make sure that we're using
- 30:12taxpayers dollars, by the way, to not only make any renovations or to
- 30:18reimagine what she can look like in the future. I know this, Jim.
- 30:22We're now using it and that's the reason why we found all of these
- 30:25things, and we weren't using it really in the past, but starting to
- 30:27use it and starting to see what she can provide to us in a great
- 30:32return on investment. We got to do a lot of work, Jim,
- 30:36make no mistake. I can remember the day, so under civil defense was
- 30:40in the basement of the auditorium. You should write a book, Jim.
- 30:45Jim should write a book, right, I mean, he should just write
- 30:47a book. You should, Jim. All right, Jim, I got
- 30:49to get the mayor out of here. I appreciate your phone call though.
- 30:52All right, Mayor. It is the seventy fifth anniversary of the World Word
- 30:55fire today, so that's one of the reasons why we had to move your
- 30:56schedule around a little bit. You're headed downtown. Comment on that, yeah,
- 31:00thank you so much. If everybody can just lift up thoughts to our
- 31:04family members. March fourth, nineteen forty nine, we do this every year.
- 31:07The wool Worth fire, which of course is on the corner of Courier
- 31:11and Capitol Streets, seven members of the Charleston Fire Department lost their lives.
- 31:17Fifteen injured too critically. When they went into that fire. The first floor
- 31:21collapsed and they perished. It is a somber day, but it is always
- 31:26a reminder to us that whether it be for personal life or personal property,
- 31:33our first responders, police, fire ems workers, they run, they run,
- 31:38they do it. We're very well trained. Obviously, technology has provided
- 31:41us so many fortunately better resources and equipment, but the passion is still there.
- 31:48The passion is the same for our EMS workers. They go in to
- 31:52the fire, they go into harm's way to help us. That is a
- 31:56true servant's heart, Dave, if there is ever a servant's heart. That's
- 32:00what I think of you before me, and that's what our fire department in
- 32:06EMS and why we are taking a moment. And apologies for shutting down Capitol
- 32:10Street, but well worth it for us to remember not only the families who
- 32:15lost loved ones, but our families who kiss their husbands and wives when they
- 32:19leave the door every single morning, and to give our deep thanks. All
- 32:22right, Maa, I know you get to get out here, and you
- 32:24did mention that there's quite a bit of traffic closures at least for a couple
- 32:28of hours while this is all going on. Than you. Yeah, and
- 32:30then we should be back open. We're shut down now and we'll be back
- 32:34open just as we turn the corner here about ten thirty. All right,
- 32:37May I appreciate it, Thank you, Thanks for squeeze means thanks a lot.

- 35:52and I'm sorry the mayor had to go, But there was a text about
- 35:54asking if the mayor was going to bring back doo wop. That's probably not
- 36:00going to happen from what I understand, And that really was the decision of
- 36:02the mayor. The organizers were the ones that decided to let that go.
- 36:06But I will ask her that the next time that she is on the air.
- 36:08The problem is there's really nowhere to have it. That's from what I
- 36:12understand. All right, let me bring in Fred person in the Voice of
- 36:15High School Sports in West Virginia, Sir Frederick, good morning. Your friend
- 36:19and frequent broadcast partner, SPEEDE. Bevans and I were talking this morning.
- 36:22He asked me to refer to you as the mayor of high school sports in
- 36:25West Virginia. Is that a fitting title? You know? I'll answer to
- 36:28about anything. Okay. I was introduced yesterday at the SSAC as the legend,
- 36:34and I told him that only means you're old. Well that's all that
- 36:37maybe I lived everybody else That's exactly right. So Fred, the girls get
- 36:39underway tomorrow, and he reminder you can catch the audio from all the gameswv
- 36:44Metro news dot com. Most of the daytime action on the radio can be
- 36:46found on Charleston's ESPN Radio one of six point seven FM fourteen ninety AM.
- 36:51Most of the evening session games here on the WCCHS network. Overall, Fred,
- 36:54what are we looking for? We have sixteen of the thirty two teams
- 36:59that made it last year, they made it back, and of the four
- 37:00state champions, three of them made it back. The only one didn't make
- 37:06it back was North Marion. North Marion got beat in the regionals. So
- 37:10you know, I think it shapes up to be really, really good.
- 37:14I think semifinals could be some of the best semi finals we have seen in
- 37:20a long time. And you have some you have some veteran teams. When
- 37:22you look in quad A, for example, first time ever, the George
- 37:28Washington Patriots, the Lady Patriots, they are the number one seed, that's
- 37:31the first time ever. And then when you look on down the eight seed,
- 37:36which is the team that George Washington will play as Musselman first time ever
- 37:39in the state tournament. The Apple Women. No, it's the Appleman.
- 37:44That's the Apple you know. I have a lot of people say, Fred,
- 37:47you don't say the Lady Patriots. You're right, I don't. I
- 37:52don't say the boy Patriots either. That's a good way to put it.
- 37:55You know. If you don't know Lewis County makes it one year, though
- 37:59there there's different they're the men it made. They're the men it mads.
- 38:01That's right. They Then if you have a different to your name, then
- 38:07it's it's yeah, you call it that, But no, if it's if
- 38:10it's just the George Washington Patriots, it's the George Washington Patriots. If you
- 38:15can't figure out Irene is playing in a girl's game, remember what year it
- 38:21is. Fred, I'm old school, and I'll leave it and I'll leave
- 38:23it at that. What are some of the teams, Fred, that you
- 38:25think could surprise some people this year? We know about the top seeds,
- 38:29but who are some teams that you think I could put out an upset?
- 38:32All right, let's take it by class all right, and in class quad
- 38:36A, I think a team that they'll have to be watching for as a
- 38:38team that's got a losing record, that's Huntington. Huntington went to Parkersburg.
- 38:43Parkersburg was twenty and four on the season, and Huntington upset them. So
- 38:46if you can do it once, why can't you do it again and again?
- 38:52I think Huntington has a good shot. I think Greenbrier East has a
- 38:54shot in Greenbrier East has to play Morgantown in the first first game in fact
- 39:00tomorrow. And there's Codage Greenbery East coach. What is his name? Jim
- 39:05escapes me right now. He's gonna be on my show tonight by the way,
- 39:07Okay, yeah, you do have a previous show coming up. I
- 39:09have a previous show from seven to nine. Yeah, And the governor is
- 39:14going to be one of the guests. We have a lot of players on
- 39:15there, so we're looking for that. So in in Class Triple A,
- 39:19when you look at Triple A, certainly the favorite is undefeated East Fairmont.
- 39:23I think without question Pat Jones's Nitro Wildcats, I think they've got a legitimate
- 39:29shot at getting there. Wayne Pioneers, they're very, very good. They're
- 39:32the number two seed. I think they can get two championships Saturday. When
- 39:37you look at Class Double A, you've got the defending champions, the Wyoming
- 39:40East Warriors, and I really think somebody's going to have to play awfully well
- 39:45to beat Wyoming East. They are just loaded with talent. They have ran
- 39:50rough shot over every opponent they've played this year in their class. Williamstown's got
- 39:54a shot at it, but I really think Wyoming East is the team to
- 39:58beat there. And then in Class Single A, I think the team that's
- 40:01almost a guaranteed win can't do that, can you. Cameron Cameron is Camra
- 40:07is not a Cameron is a two time defending channel. They have Ashlyn van
- 40:12Tassel, who is just an unbelievable player. I saw her play a couple
- 40:16of weeks ago at the Partmer Shooting man, she's amazing, great player,
- 40:20great player, and so I think they are certainly the team to beat there
- 40:23as well. And you mentioned her, But who are some of the other
- 40:27individual players that you're looking forward to seeing this year? I think for George
- 40:30Washington, Findley Lowen Finley Loewen is a great outside shooter. Fenily is going
- 40:34to be on the show tonight, by the way. Also, George Washington
- 40:37has a great player in Zanayah Zealous is her name, six one, six
- 40:44' two, just a tremendous, tremendous inside player. When you start looking
- 40:49at some of the other teams as far as individual players go, Gilmore County's
- 40:53got a six foot four You saw them. You saw Gilmore County at Parmer
- 40:57shootout too. And the young lady that is to the for inside, she
- 41:00plays extremely well. Tucker County's back Macy Helmi is one of the better players
- 41:05I think of the state. So we've got some good, good, good
- 41:07talent coming up this week and again all the action gets underway tomorrow, and
- 41:12of course the boys regionals are going on this week. It is the most
- 41:15wonderful time of the year. Fred a busy time, but it is it
- 41:17is good. It is good. Yes, and again that preview show with
- 41:21Fred will air tonight at seven o'clock. Fred is always pleasure, will be
- 41:24listening, and we'll see you this week at the Cattle Seemen Convention Center and
- 41:28we get you on next Monday to you get to do the same thing with
- 41:30the boys for the Boys teams. Come. How come your co host Larry
- 41:32doesn't say a whole lot. Well, Shockley's just hanging out here right now.
- 41:36He's going to come on next to uh any time in the presence of
- 41:42a legends such as yourself, sir, Yeah, but best thing for me
- 41:45to do. Yeah, but what about Fred? Yeah, yes, that's
- 41:50right, I missed that too. He thought he was talking about you.
- 41:55Yeah, he's talking about me. But yeah, Shockley is gonna be come
- 42:00up in the next segment. But Fred always a pleasure man, my pleasure.
- 42:02My friend's always good to help you out with your ratings. Yes,
- 42:07did they go through the roof with mister p We had a good friend of
- 42:09mine last week in the building, Mike Stone, who a logan one of

- 42:16always calls you mister Persinger. You've told him repeatedly to call you Fred,
- 42:21and what does he call you? Well, I'm so much older than Mike.
- 42:25It happens, all right, all right, Fred will be listening to
- 42:29night. We'll be listening all week long. Man, thanks a lot.

- 46:35to be closing in Kanas City on the heels of tearing down the Hooters building.
- 46:38Last week we learned that Budget Tapes and Records was closing its doors forever
- 46:43after fifty some odd years in business. Shockley from her sister Station ninety eight
- 46:47seven a Mountain wild, wonderful classic rock, not only a big fan of
- 46:50the place, but he also worked there and he joins us now shock good
- 46:53morning, Welcome to the show. Hey on our owner privilege to be on
- 46:57the what is it? Is it the day Valan or is it? Yeah?
- 47:00I call it the show. It's the Day Allen Show on five eighty
- 47:02line. Well, it is your gig. Well, I appreciate shock He
- 47:08was hanging out with the animal on the morning show up there, and then
- 47:10he came down here and he sat here for the whole show. And you
- 47:14managed to set through the Derek Evans interview well without saying a word. As
- 47:17I said, I used to listen to our bell all the time. And
- 47:21you know, aliens, they live among us. It's the same thing.
- 47:22It's just a different you know. So Shockley is someone who didn't grow up
- 47:27in Charleston. I was still well aware long before I ever went there for
- 47:30the budget tapes and records, probably some time in the mid eighties for me,
- 47:32the first time I made a trip there because I heard all the radio
- 47:37commercials and I saw the ads on television whatever. It was truly a legendary
- 47:39business here in Charleston. Yeah, it was. It was the cool place
- 47:44to be, the cool place to hang out at. And that is saying
- 47:47a whole lot when in the mid to late nineteen eighties, you had the
- 47:52Charleston Town Center mall that was there was rocking, had three record stores.
- 47:58Still a lot of folks were saying you need to get up to budget.
- 48:01The legendary place. It had been there since nineteen seventy two. Dave Pope,
- 48:06who is the man who started the place, he had worked at another
- 48:09place called Pepperland. And about a couple months ago I ran into Dave and
- 48:14he told me a little story about how he was working at Pepperland, and
- 48:19that was kind of a lifestyle boutique. If you wanted your clothes and your
- 48:22jewelry, you would go to Pepperland. Over top of it was a record
- 48:24store called Sites and Sounds, and that was in the Arcade building in Charleston.
- 48:30And he said that he was working at Pepperland and he went out of
- 48:32town and spizzily he came back and he thought that he might not have a
- 48:37job when he came back. So they thought, I'll start my own place
- 48:38in kanea city, and it just worked out really well. And there was
- 48:42also multiple locations all over Charleston. They were located in the basement of the
- 48:46Daniel Boone Hotel and also on Courier Street, and to say that budget was
- 48:52quirky, yes, would be an understatement. It definitely was quirky, and
- 48:55it was one of those things where, especially in nineteen seventy two and through
- 49:00the eighties, there were a lot of things that you were sold there that
- 49:05it's kind of surprising now looking back on it, that they were being sold
- 49:10out in the open. However, you know, fortunately, I guess you
- 49:15could say, when the music business became so stealable, so easy to be
- 49:23stolen music, and so the sales took a hit, they had these other
- 49:28things that could draw you in, the clothing and the whole lifestyle thing,
- 49:31and so that really helped the lifestyle out. That's a good way to put
- 49:34it. Yeah, well, I have no doubt that that kept them afloat
- 49:37for a good couple of decades. Otherwise a place of business that large would
- 49:40have gone under it. But Dave allen Chow and five eighty nine presumed a
- 49:44part about Pinnacle Consultants, whether you're replacing a roough remindley in the kitchen or
- 49:47replace in a bathroom, keep it safe, keep it legal. The Pinnacle
- 49:51Consultants taken the spectro psychic samples, performed lib and outs to provide results with
- 49:54it about a week testing all renovations from Molda as bestos Atlanta as the law
- 49:58in West Virginia. Visit Pinnacle dot net for Pinnacle Consultants because what you don't
- 50:02know can't hurt you. And you worked there a couple of times there at
- 50:05to budget. Yeah, I worked there in the late eighties early nineties and
- 50:08it was just wonderful. I mean it was you know, for a rock
- 50:10and roller, it was like going to church man and you loved being there.
- 50:15You love being a part of it, the whole vibe. I just
- 50:17remember always getting my coffee headed there the break room, make our sandwiches come
- 50:22out, and we were so passionate about what we did. And also we
- 50:27had a Ticketmaster outlet, so that was another cool thing. When Ticketmaster first
- 50:30came in, they came to us to buy tickets. So Saturday morning the
- 50:35on sales, we had people that covered the whole region. Not only was
- 50:38it to Charleston area, you could come to us to buy tickets to Chicago,
- 50:43Pittsburgh, Lexington, Kentucky. And I still have people to this day
- 50:47that I run into that I met at the camp out for different concert tickets
- 50:52Guns N' Roses tickets for Lexington, Kentucky. I met people at the camp
- 50:57out for those tickets outside budget because everyone knew that they could go there and
- 51:00buy their tickets. It was just a wonderful place and it's, you know,
- 51:04a huge hold in my heart now. So so you got to you
- 51:07were hanging out there last couple days. You actually did a video that we
- 51:09posted on our sister station ninety seven Mountains social media. This is kind of
- 51:15personal to you. It hurts badly that that place is not there. And
- 51:21there have been several people that have mentioned the candlelight vigil that is supposedly going
- 51:24to take place tonight, and they're like, man, are you coming,
- 51:28We're gonna play and all of that, and it hurts to my core that
- 51:31in a lot of ways, I would rather just be able to be ignorant
- 51:36and convince myself that it's still there and it always will be. But Dave
