- 0:00Speaker: What's up everyone? Trevor Matthews from Refrigeration Mentor, so we're glad that you're here again, hanging out with us, learning and growing together, this is what it's all about. Learning and growing together in the community. There's been. Lots of good conversations going on. Some good technical conversations.
- 0:01Level up, and this is really what I wanna dive into, is how do you expand your network to grow here at Refrigeration Mentor, we're all about sharing, helping, leveling up. And I know there's lots of people that I've seen in the past that didn't like to share their knowledge and they, they kept it close to themselves 'cause they earned the knowledge, they put the work in and Totally.
- 0:02And then you showed me these different ways and we talked about it in the groups, and then all of a sudden it's like, holy smokes. There's a whole different way to do this. And the way I was doing it wasn't that it was totally wrong, it was just not as efficient or as effective. I had someone reach out to me.
- 0:03So we talked about how to. Properly braise and how to properly, , use and purge with nitrogen so you don't get any carbon in there. Also talked about how to use a vac pump and how to properly do an evacuation. Big hoses, norad, no gauges using a micron. Gauge to test. And he shot me an email and he was like, Trevor, I was just with a, a more senior technician than in the field.
- 0:04Just remember that the right way always takes longer, but you did it right and you don't have to go back a second or a third time. And this is what we talk about in the community doing things right. Noah Walker, he is in the community. Super cool dude. He, I think the first program he took was years ago, and he's been a couple years in and now he always is looking how to do it right, more efficient, more effective, because that's the way he wants to do it.
- 0:05But you don't hear about the the callbacks and those people probably don't hear about the callbacks either. 'cause sometimes it doesn't happen for months or even years. Like if you are brazing in a small system and you don't purge, you'll, you're probably gonna start that system up and not run into any issues at that moment.
- 0:06It could be the end user themselves not paying the that first contractor or properly to fix the problems. That's one. And usually that one's a quite a high contender. The other ones is a lot of different people working in these stores and the people that are working on the stores don't know how to properly work on refrigeration system.
- 0:07So if you can get up and figure out how to make it, them think it's their idea to change. Then that might be one of the ways to do it. Besides that, there's no other way to be able to change something. They need to do it themselves. So if the they don't purge and they did it for 10 years, not purging, they're a highly likelihood to get them to change is gonna be very slim.
- 0:08That's really what it is. We focus on helping each other. How do we help each other learn a little bit quicker, learn a little bit faster, and be better tomorrow than we are today? This is what we're always strive, I'm always striving for how do I be better tomorrow than today because.
- 0:09Even if you're doing it for three or four or five years. Because I've seen lots of technicians doing it for 20 years. They just never did it right. Nobody ever showed them. That's the way they did it. They get systems running, not efficiently, not effectively. They're running the problems. I've seen it time and time again on construction jobs, people that I work with, people that kind of, I got frustrated after me getting my journeyman top rate, getting paid the same as them, and then all of a sudden I'm like.
- 0:10But you want to follow those people who can really guide you in ways that. Can help fast track your knowledge and fast tracking your knowledge could be one of many things. Talking to customers, being more confident, getting into sales, how to solve a problem quicker. Electrical, troubleshooting, whatever it is, whatever that is for you.
- 0:11You will start noticing, you may have different friends even. 'cause that's what happens when you start to change. And that's okay because maybe the, the people that you're hanging around with. They probably might not have been good for you, the people that were cutting corners or don't really talk really bad about people in your company or talk really bad about the industry.
- 0:12It's so, so, it's crazy. It's crazy how, how fast in only five years, like lots of people like that. It's never gonna happen, , and I've been there before, but in five years, so much has happens and it continues to happen. It's amazing. I love seeing what's happening inside the, the refrigeration mentor organization, but I love seeing what's happening in the refrigeration mentor community.
- 0:13And how do you tackle tackle it? Because their strategy is on, on making more money. But a lot of people that I talk to that's been in it, it's not about the money. It's about the, the enjoyment of their job, the people that they work with, where they work, how they can get and figure out how they can get more time with the things that they like to do, their different hobbies or their family or working.
- 0:14Help the people around you. That, that's the thing. It's like if you, the, if the more people you help, the more you will be helped. The more value you bring together is the more value that will come to you. And that's just, there's so many gurus said it that I've listened to that's been, some of them been dead for centuries and some of them are still alive.
