Speaker 2: be back this afternoon on Hotline with Dave Weinkly at
• 0:41
Speaker 2: three or six. But we still have the business of
• 0:43
Speaker 2: the day to take care of. Joining me in a
• 0:44
Speaker 2: studio here well right now, Brian Hugheses with me. We're

Speaker 2: you doing this morning, Brian.
• 0:49
Speaker 3: It's a great day to be alive.
• 0:51
  Speaker 4: It is.
• 0:51
Speaker 2: There's a lot of stuff to talk about, that's for sure.
• 0:53
Speaker 2: Joining me later in the hour is going to be
• 0:55
Speaker 2: Brad mcqueney. Several stories we're going to run down with
• 0:58
Speaker 2: Brad around he's our State House report and there is
• 1:00
Speaker 2: three or four different things I'm going to get into
• 1:02
Speaker 2: with Brad, but big news as far as in the
• 1:05
Speaker 2: city of Charleston, and that big news came down tomorrow.
• 1:08
Speaker 2: Let me tell you first about some of the folks
• 1:10
Speaker 2: that are sponsoring the program. Phone calls to the show.
• 1:12

Speaker 2: Visit Best Master Taylor dot com or Tony's Facebook page
• 1:34
Speaker 2: for more information. Brian Hughes, like I said, is here
• 1:37
Speaker 2: we want to talk a little bit about the regatta
• 1:39
Speaker 2: that's coming up and big times, big times man.
• 1:42
Speaker 5: You know this is we're excited. You know we got
• 1:46
Speaker 5: quote unquote lucky. We were actually supposed to be the
• 1:48
Speaker 5: regatta one year earlier. Oh yeah, right, but you know
• 1:51
Speaker 5: the COVID stuff had right right, I mean in a
• 1:53
Speaker 5: flood actually delayed our announcement and that is why and
• 1:58
Speaker 5: then next thing, you know, the COVID stuff happened, and
• 2:01
Speaker 5: so we had to move on. So you know, it
• 2:03
Speaker 5: was weird how things worked out because that put us
• 2:05
Speaker 5: now for the five year anniversary on the two hundred
• 2:08
Speaker 5: and fiftieth birthday of America, and ID is going to
• 2:10
Speaker 5: be a big show. I mean, this is by the way,
• 2:13
Speaker 5: this is moved from working draft to actual to actual.
• 2:16
Speaker 6: I see it as draft across it. This is real.
• 2:17
Speaker 3: Now I did get an emailed to me. I just
• 2:19
Speaker 3: looked at the wrong account.
• 2:20
Speaker 5: So this is but this is really we're really excited
• 2:24
Speaker 5: about this. You know, we've been talking to a lot
• 2:26
Speaker 5: of our sponsors and this was this was for when
• 2:30
Speaker 5: I met with with within COVID now five years ago.
• 2:35
Speaker 5: This was the mark that I said, we're gonna make
• 2:38
Speaker 5: it five year mark, but I just need some help
• 2:41
Speaker 5: and they I wasn't. Those folks over there trusted trusted us,
• 2:45
Speaker 5: They trusted me, and that was that was really exciting.
• 2:48
Speaker 5: Once we got that, we knew we're going to take off.
• 2:50
Speaker 2: I've been a business owner in the past, and is
• 2:53
Speaker 2: the festivals and things like that kind of live along
• 2:56
Speaker 2: that same path. Like five years is really that benchmark
• 2:58
Speaker 2: for businesses too, like if you can stay open for
• 2:59
  Speaker 2: five years, you're you're paying your bills, you're you're making
• 3:02
Speaker 2: a profit. Things like that, it usually means you can
• 3:04
Speaker 2: stick around for a while.
• 3:05
  Speaker 7: Right.
• 3:05
Speaker 5: The mayor had said, we need to get three in
• 3:09
Speaker 5: and after we get three we'll know what we got
• 3:12
Speaker 5: to fix big time if we need to fix anything.
• 3:14
Speaker 5: And we fix every things every year, but we knew
• 3:17
Speaker 5: if we have to five that would take it to
• 3:18
Speaker 5: the next level. And and we just happened to be
• 3:21
Speaker 5: lucky enough that is on America's two hundred fifty birthday.
• 3:23
  Speaker 3: There's gonna be a lot.
• 3:24
Speaker 5: Of celebrations, but you know we are going to have
• 3:27
Speaker 5: more celebrations around the city.
• 3:29
Speaker 3: The fireworks show, it's great. This fireworks show.
• 3:33
Speaker 5: I have to absolutely thank the anonymous donors who stepped
• 3:38
Speaker 5: up and they put it through the Canal Valley Foundation.
• 3:40
Speaker 5: They helped us out to anonymize everything just because they said,
• 3:44
Speaker 5: we want to have a very nice firework show.
• 3:46
  Speaker 6: Wow.
• 3:47
Speaker 3: And he is going to be huge.
• 3:48
Speaker 5: Three firing locations, one at Magic Island, one directly across
• 3:52
Speaker 5: from had Adam of Corcorle Avenue, and then the other
• 3:54
Speaker 5: one out of Arge in the middle of the Canal
• 3:57
Speaker 5: River right in front of the state Capitol.
• 3:58
Speaker 6: It's gonna be huge.
• 3:59
Speaker 5: Listen, anybody who has who has just an inkling of
• 4:03
Speaker 5: photographic you know, work or what the adumption right right,
• 4:09
Speaker 5: sign up, get ready. This is going to be something
• 4:11
Speaker 5: you'll never be able to capture again in your lifetime
• 4:15
Speaker 5: most likely. But it's gonna be West Virginia's largest firework
• 4:17
  Speaker 5: show ever produced.
• 4:19
Speaker 2: You know, I was just a couple of weeks ago
• 4:20
Speaker 2: I got the big press release. You know, the city
• 4:22
Speaker 2: of Pittsburgh does their their summer concert series and they
• 4:25
Speaker 2: have several different locations where they launch shows about and
• 4:28
Speaker 2: the good artists that were coming in there. I was like, man,
• 4:30
Speaker 2: that's the you know, if you were wanting to go
• 4:31
Speaker 2: see some some shows, that's a pretty good summer concert
• 4:34
Speaker 2: series at Wittsburg has going on.
• 4:35
Speaker 5: I had somebody who said, this looks like almost it
• 4:37
Speaker 5: could be a regott On.
• 4:38
Speaker 2: Well now, and what made me bring that up is, frankly, frankly, Pittsburgh,
• 4:44
Speaker 2: I REGTDA lineup is looking pretty darn strong. Night number one, well,
• 4:48
Speaker 2: let's just we'll just open up with Night number one
• 4:50
Speaker 2: could be the closing night on just about any other
• 4:52
Speaker 2: night just absolutely incredible.
• 4:53
  Speaker 3: Absolutely could be.
• 4:54
Speaker 5: And the what we've had to do every year is
• 4:56
Speaker 5: we get artists that are just traveling through I got
• 4:59
Speaker 5: to get from Let's say they're gonna get from Cincy
• 5:01
Speaker 5: down to Jacksonville, Ford.
• 5:03
Speaker 3: Well, that's not a direct round. I think you'll probably south.
• 5:05
Speaker 5: But if they come through Charleston and make a little
• 5:07
Speaker 5: money on the way, have a concert, and still make
• 5:09
Speaker 5: it to Jacksonville, Ford, So we get them in transit.
• 5:13
Speaker 5: But this year with Brett Michaels on Saturday and why
• 5:17
Speaker 5: Noona and Melissa Etheridge on tour on Thursday, we get
• 5:22
Speaker 5: them actually on their tours like legitimate. So I think
• 5:25
Speaker 5: either yesterday or today they're gonna be put they're gonna
• 5:28
Speaker 5: be filling that hole on their schedule. Uh for the
• 5:31
Speaker 5: holiday weekend, We're we're absolutely thrilled about that.
• 5:34
Speaker 3: But uh yeah, Thursday.
• 5:36
Speaker 5: I mean we're about in a thousand if not more
• 5:40
Speaker 5: when we started everything.
• 5:41
  Speaker 6: It's pretty crazy.
• 5:42
Speaker 2: Of course, Melissa Ethreach, who you were just alluding to,
• 5:45
Speaker 2: I mean, she's she's she's fresh in the headlines right now.
• 5:48
Speaker 2: She has a movie that's going to be coming out
• 5:49
Speaker 2: with christ and Stewart's going to be playing her I
• 5:50
Speaker 2: believe in a biopic about about Melissa Ethridge and h
• 5:54
Speaker 2: and then of course Manoona Judd is also going to
• 5:56
Speaker 2: be there that night. Before we talk a little bit
• 5:57
Speaker 2: more about that, I threw it through together or some music,
• 5:59
Speaker 2: So I think anybody here is gonna have any problem
• 6:01
Speaker 2: with Melissa Ethree Dana Judge. But just to wet your
• 6:04
Speaker 2: whistle just a little bit, I'll put together a little
• 6:06
Speaker 2: bit of music. So here is a little bit of
• 6:08
Speaker 2: a compilation between Melissa Ethree, jen Wana Judge night one
• 6:11
Speaker 2: of the regarded which will be Thursday night.
• 6:35
  Speaker 3: She is invited.
• 6:36
Speaker 6: Yeah, she can come, Yeah, she can come on over.
• 6:41
Speaker 3: Singing along with me. Here we got way.
• 6:43
Speaker 2: Everybody knows this song, right, it's so funny this morning,
• 6:48
Speaker 2: And of course our stations here locally have been adding
• 6:51
Speaker 2: some of this music. But I was, as I was
• 6:53
Speaker 2: putting together these reels this morning, I could hear our
• 6:55
Speaker 2: country stations Who's firstar Counry ninety six one in the
• 6:57
Speaker 2: background playing and they were actually playing this this morning.
• 7:01
  Speaker 6: Go imagine that.
• 7:02
Speaker 5: So it was when one person in the building who
• 7:04
Speaker 5: made sure a couple of extra songs were added to
• 7:06
  Speaker 5: the lineup for.
• 7:08
Speaker 6: Oh that's good. All right, Yeah, that's good.
• 7:10
Speaker 3: Just nobody knew but three people.
• 7:12
Speaker 2: So of course Melissa Ethreege if you must know who
• 7:15
Speaker 2: she is. But the huge songs come through my window.
• 7:17
Speaker 2: I'm the only one I want to come over, bringing
• 7:19
Speaker 2: some water, tons of hot number one songs that were
• 7:22
Speaker 2: ripped off in the in the mid nineties. Just an
• 7:25
Speaker 2: iconic artist. She's performed in Charleston a couple of times,
• 7:27
Speaker 2: I think before the Clay Center. She's been here before.
• 7:30
Speaker 2: So just a superstar that's going to be one part
• 7:33
Speaker 2: of the opening night, you know.
• 7:34
Speaker 5: And and I'm gonna tell you something, seriously, we can't
• 7:37
Speaker 5: thank our sponsors enough because they have they've allowed this
• 7:40
Speaker 5: to be a free event, and it costs a fortune
• 7:44
Speaker 5: to book these artists. And we've actually been planning for
• 7:49
Speaker 5: two years now, two years for this event because two
• 7:54
Speaker 5: hundred and fiftieth I mean, I remember the conference call
• 7:56
Speaker 5: I was. I was on a Sturmo boat in Augusta, Kentucky,
• 7:59
Speaker 5: and I'm on a conference call, uh with Andy Richardson,
• 8:03
Speaker 5: our president, Madame Mayer, and Matt Sutton and Jane Bostick,
• 8:08
Speaker 5: and we were all talking about you know, we were
• 8:10
Speaker 5: talking about security, the whole everything. But we were planning
• 8:14
Speaker 5: on a there's gonna be elevated pricing. It is gonna
• 8:16
Speaker 5: be July fourth on a Saturday in America, sooner fifties,
• 8:19
Speaker 5: So you've got to plan all these different things. But
• 8:22
Speaker 5: the cool part about Thursday night is they're both gonna
• 8:25
Speaker 5: do seventy five minutes each. Seventy five minutes are gonna
• 8:29
  Speaker 5: do and that's it's typical. But you've got i mean,
• 8:32
Speaker 5: dual headliners. So you'll know every song. Yeah, you'll know
• 8:35
Speaker 5: every song, every single one of both of them. And
• 8:36
Speaker 5: they're gonna sing together.
• 8:38
Speaker 6: On some songs no way. Yeah, I didn't know that
• 8:40
Speaker 6: was even a thing.
• 8:40
Speaker 3: Yeah, So they're gonna do renditions this of some of them.
• 8:44
Speaker 5: I mean, you know, the the the people who are
• 8:47
Speaker 5: religiously go to concerts and follow websites about playlists or
• 8:51
Speaker 5: set lists for uh concerts, They're gonna get it. You'll
• 8:54
Speaker 5: be able to get a heads up on maybe some
• 8:56
Speaker 5: of the songs that are going to be singing together.
• 8:57
Speaker 5: But it's also the fourth of July weekend, and so
• 9:01
Speaker 5: that weekend usually artists pull songs out that they've not
• 9:04
Speaker 5: done it a long time. You never know that somebody
• 9:06
Speaker 5: else is, but still they paid tribute to them, and
• 9:08
Speaker 5: it's it's this is gonna be so much fun.
• 9:11
  Speaker 2: It's gonna be great. Well, I know, it's amazing. She's
• 9:13
Speaker 2: been solo since nineteen ninety two. I was looking at
• 9:15
Speaker 2: that a little bit. I mean, the Judds were such
• 9:17
Speaker 2: a massive I mean just platinum hit after platinum hit
• 9:21
Speaker 2: after platinum hit in the eighties and nineties, and I
• 9:23
Speaker 2: was I was looking up.
• 9:24
Speaker 6: I was like, when did she go solo? When was that?
• 9:26
Speaker 2: For I'm getting to be very old, but I could
• 9:29
Speaker 2: not believe it was in nineteen ninety two. I mean,
• 9:31
Speaker 2: she she's basically been a solo artist for twice as
• 9:33
Speaker 2: long as that she was a jid, Yeah exactly.
• 9:36
Speaker 5: And of course her being from Ashland and such that,
• 9:40
Speaker 5: you know, that helped a local connection.
• 9:42
Speaker 6: But you know, I met her.
• 9:43
Speaker 5: I've been her in nineteen ninety in the fall of
• 9:47
Speaker 5: nineteen ninety seven, and she came to the studio in Lovewock, Texas.
• 9:51
Speaker 6: And she was a that hair.
• 9:54
Speaker 3: It is that red down to the roots. Sometimes you
• 9:57
Speaker 3: let it go, but let me get it is that red.
• 10:00
Speaker 2: Always felt like that she might have been or we
• 10:01
Speaker 2: might have been an honorary part of her family. Because
• 10:03
Speaker 2: my my family also has that red hair on my
• 10:05
Speaker 2: mom's side that like like the Judds family looks like
• 10:08
  Speaker 2: my mom.
• 10:10
Speaker 6: I'm gonna wear that.
• 10:11
  Speaker 2: Let's let's continue on. Let's uh, that's a blockbuster, just
• 10:14
Speaker 2: getting it started all night night one. Talk a little
• 10:16
Speaker 2: bit about night two, and I'll get us started with
• 10:18
Speaker 2: the music this time around Montel Jordan.
• 10:22
Speaker 5: Of course this is sound and everybody think by the way,
• 10:27
Speaker 5: the announcement yesterday, everybody was singing alonger they knew their song.
• 10:30
Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, they know this song.
• 10:31
Speaker 2: Now I'll admit that night number two on Friday, that's
• 10:34
Speaker 2: gonna be Montell Jordan bow Wow and Bobby Brown. Bow
• 10:37
Speaker 2: Wow was a little bit out of my demo. He's
• 10:40
Speaker 2: a little bit. He's a little bit younger than what
• 10:42
Speaker 2: I was. This is bow Wow here and this is
• 10:45
Speaker 2: him as a kid. Right, he's older now he's older now, yeah,
• 10:48
Speaker 2: this was little bow Wow.
• 10:50
Speaker 3: Se so you folks you're older.
• 10:53
Speaker 8: He was a kid.
• 10:54
Speaker 5: He was like twelve, twelve or thirteen in this song, right,
• 10:57
Speaker 5: and so he came out as little bow Wow and uh,
• 11:01
Speaker 5: he's changed to bow Wow.
• 11:03
  Speaker 9: Now.
• 11:03
Speaker 3: He looks really good in his photo by the way.
• 11:05
Speaker 2: And then Bobby Brown's been to Charleston before. I saw
• 11:07
Speaker 2: him and concert back in the eighties with LeVert and
• 11:10
Speaker 2: uh it was the Karen Uh, I'll be your super Superwoman.
• 11:14
  Speaker 2: I can't remember Karen White.
• 11:15
Speaker 6: I think her name was.
• 11:16
Speaker 2: I saw him when he came to town. So this
• 11:18
Speaker 2: is straight out of my teenage years. Other than bow Wow,
• 11:21
Speaker 2: who was a little bit before me, but Montel Jordan
• 11:23
Speaker 2: and Bobby Brown, this is straight when I was playing
• 11:25
Speaker 2: basketball and football here in Kanall City growing up in
• 11:27
Speaker 2: the eighties and nineties.
• 11:28
Speaker 6: This is straight out of my child.
• 11:29
Speaker 5: Sometimes you got to play to the those two Montel
• 11:32
Speaker 5: and Bobby. They're playing to a younger crowd and so
• 11:34
Speaker 5: they're trying to make sure that they bring a few.
• 11:37
  Speaker 6: Young kids in.
• 11:38
Speaker 5: But uh, now this was I had a number of
• 11:41
Speaker 5: text messages, text messages from some of my friends are like, oh,
• 11:44
  Speaker 5: it's this throwback. There's a great stuff I had won.
• 11:47
Speaker 5: Adam Rodgers he goes, he goes my boy, Bobby.
• 11:50
Speaker 3: Brown can't wait. I was like, he's your boy?
• 11:54
  Speaker 1: Is he?
• 11:56
Speaker 5: But that that's so exciting and and uh and then
• 11:59
Speaker 5: you know, we go, we go from Friday Night, we go.
• 12:02
Speaker 5: We just had the ladies kick us off. The guys
• 12:05
Speaker 5: are here on Friday night, and then we go to Saturday,
• 12:07
Speaker 5: which Saturday, the slew of events is obsurd.
• 12:11
Speaker 2: Let's talk about that a little before we get to
• 12:12
Speaker 2: the music. There's a lot of stuff going on Friday Saturday.
• 12:15
Speaker 5: We've got the We've got the winder dog race that's
• 12:18
Speaker 5: gonna happen, and that's gonna be down at Magic Island.
• 12:20
Speaker 5: We're really excited about that, and we've got some folks
• 12:23
Speaker 5: are stepping up to help sponsor that event. There is
• 12:27
Speaker 5: the hot dog eating contests and that's gonna be down
• 12:30
Speaker 5: at Hatted Riverfront Park.
• 12:32
  Speaker 6: We moved it.
• 12:32
Speaker 5: We finally figured out that's the best place to have
• 12:34
Speaker 5: it every year. And so gosh, oh my guys, I
• 12:37
Speaker 5: can't with the guy from Nitro who won last year.
• 12:40
Speaker 5: He's back, so we'll have him there. He's held me
• 12:42
Speaker 5: out on stage last year. He could have eaten more.
• 12:44
Speaker 5: He's disappointed in himself. So we'll see how that works
• 12:47
Speaker 5: out because it was a tight one. So we had
• 12:50
Speaker 5: a hot dog eating contest, and of course you know
• 12:53
Speaker 5: the funeral parade, and matter of fact, I have a
• 12:56
Speaker 5: meeting about that tomorrow. We're gonna finalize some of the
• 12:58
Speaker 5: details on that, and we are really excited about that.
• 13:02
Speaker 5: Marty Gracassino has stepped up and they said they said
• 13:05
Speaker 5: last year, he said, we need to be back in
• 13:08
Speaker 5: the swing of things, bigger and better, and so they're
• 13:10
Speaker 5: going to help out and make sure that just Is
• 13:12
  Speaker 5: is top notch.
• 13:13
Speaker 3: And people love that.
• 13:15
  Speaker 5: I mean, it's a time to cut it's it's when
• 13:17
Speaker 5: you know, it's when the festival people go, we can
• 13:19
Speaker 5: come out of the shadows and then either and it's
• 13:22
  Speaker 5: a it's a heck of a break that I you know,
• 13:25
  Speaker 5: it's a very short parade round. I mean, listen, we're
• 13:26
Speaker 5: going two blocks on Capitol Street, give that, and then
• 13:29
Speaker 5: we make the turn and we go back over to
• 13:31
Speaker 5: s like Plaza. But the fun part about that is
• 13:33
Speaker 5: it is jam packed on the sidewalks like it's a
• 13:35
Speaker 5: Christmas parade at least for that block and a half
• 13:38
  Speaker 5: to two blocks.
• 13:39
  Speaker 3: And it's really cool. That's a mayor's favorite event.
• 13:42
Speaker 5: And so she already has been working on her ideas
• 13:47
Speaker 5: for because believe me, believe me she is she puts
• 13:51
Speaker 5: a heck of a lot of effort into it.
• 13:52
  Speaker 6: But everybody does.
• 13:54
Speaker 5: I mean, we had someone was carrying their relatives ashes
• 13:57
Speaker 5: in the parade last year, and of course the the
• 14:01
Speaker 5: Great Canal River Navy they helped step up and make
• 14:04
Speaker 5: sure that that is has a good event with the band,
• 14:06
Speaker 5: the Canon Navy River Band. So it's it's really exciting.
• 14:11
Speaker 5: But you've got the uh you've got also, by the way,
• 14:14
Speaker 5: the fire truck parade. Lots of cool, very cool. Always
• 14:16
Speaker 5: cool to have the loudest parade too. Oh, it's so fun.
• 14:20
Speaker 5: And then they start to hear the sirens, they're starting
• 14:22
Speaker 5: to put their fingers in their ears, and then as
• 14:24
Speaker 5: we get to the end of the event, at that
• 14:26
Speaker 5: point they've just pulled them out.
• 14:27
Speaker 6: So there's smiling. Yeah, yeah, they just want to hear it.
• 14:29
Speaker 3: But it's just it's a great day to be downtown.
• 14:32
Speaker 5: And we've got the kid Zone over it's going to
• 14:35
Speaker 5: be over at Slack Plaza and that is all dedicated
• 14:38
Speaker 5: to kids. I mean, you know, there's of course going
• 14:41
Speaker 5: to be some things you can buy for food, whatever else.
• 14:43
Speaker 5: And we've got the entrepreneurs market there.
• 14:45
  Speaker 6: Young kids.
• 14:46
Speaker 5: I mean these kids who are anywhere from seven, eight
• 14:48
Speaker 5: to ten twelve years old who are putting their products
• 14:51
Speaker 5: out there that they've put together and it's amazing. We
• 14:54
Speaker 5: were blown away the first two years ago when we
• 14:56
Speaker 5: did it, and so that's that has been successful.
• 14:59
Speaker 2: But Saturday is so Saturday is just huge. Yeah, yeah,
• 15:03
Speaker 2: it's a it's a big but so many events going on.
• 15:05
Speaker 2: I mean, just look at the calendar. You can get
• 15:06
Speaker 2: to it. It's a Charlestons Stern what Charleston Regard dot
• 15:11
Speaker 2: Charleston Regatta dot com. Go to Charleston Regatta dot com.
• 15:13
Speaker 2: Just look at the calendar of events. I mean we're
• 15:15
Speaker 2: talking about the music primarily, but the major events that
• 15:18
Speaker 2: are going on, from wrestling, I mean wrestling, yeah, there's
• 15:21
Speaker 2: that too, from from uh from US the Slack Slam,
• 15:24
Speaker 2: all the way to uh UH to the to the
• 15:27
Speaker 2: to the different parades and things that are going on.
• 15:29
Speaker 6: It's just I mean, the city really does come alive.
• 15:32
Speaker 5: They don't stop. Yeah, and and and when I say
• 15:34
Speaker 5: don't stop, they let's just go ahead and say it.
• 15:37
Speaker 5: These the city employees, over seven hundred and fifty employees
• 15:40
Speaker 5: within the City of Charleston, they step up. You know,
• 15:45
Speaker 5: when we first started, I was you know, I felt
• 15:47
Speaker 5: bad about the whole July fourth thing. I mean, you're
• 15:50
Speaker 5: changing lives and families, plans everything else. But there are
• 15:53
Speaker 5: a lot of those guys who said, now we want this,
• 15:55
Speaker 5: we want to come back after you're one, we still
• 15:58
Speaker 5: want to do it. And you know, we're going into
• 15:59
Speaker 5: the fifth year now, and there guys people have now
• 16:02
Speaker 5: after the first probably about three years, year four and.
• 16:06
Speaker 3: Now going new year five, have changed their family vacations.
• 16:09
  Speaker 10: Right.
• 16:10
Speaker 5: Even the people that would go to down to West
• 16:12
  Speaker 5: Virginia's beach down there, Myrtle Beach, they've I've had a
• 16:15
Speaker 5: number of people say we still go, we just don't
• 16:18
Speaker 5: go on regatta weekend now.
• 16:19
Speaker 2: Talking about the regard of the big announcement yesterday with
• 16:22
Speaker 2: Brian Hughes a couple more nights that we're going to
• 16:23
Speaker 2: get to the end of Saturday, and we were talking
• 16:25
Speaker 2: about the events taking place on Saturday, which there's tons
• 16:27
Speaker 2: of them. Again, go to the website and check it out.
• 16:29
Speaker 2: There's so much going on. But I was a little bit,
• 16:32
Speaker 2: uh my wife didn't know who lead Afford was. She's
• 16:34
Speaker 2: a little younger than me. I listen, I'm in the
• 16:37
Speaker 2: same boat, and I had to. I tried to sing
• 16:39
Speaker 2: the Ozzie lead a song tour. I got all the
• 16:41
Speaker 2: lyrics wrong, so I sang this one too, or I
• 16:43
Speaker 2: got this one right, and so she still didn't recognize it.
• 16:49
Speaker 3: Yes, I know that I needed that song.
• 16:56
Speaker 2: And of course also on Saturday night, no introduction of
• 16:59
Speaker 2: me at here A fabulously nice man. I've talked to
• 17:02
Speaker 2: Brett Michael's a few times. Fabulously nice guy. Of course,
• 17:11
Speaker 2: Brett Michael's formerly singer of Poison. My understanding is he
• 17:15
Speaker 2: he did uh Morgantown I think last year and in
• 17:18
Speaker 2: the Ruby concert. And my understanding is he does. He
• 17:21
Speaker 2: has a solo career. He does some of his solo stuff,
• 17:23
Speaker 2: but he does he does all the hits too. Yeah,
• 17:25
  Speaker 2: and so you're I mean, that's a night that I
• 17:27
Speaker 2: could go and sing every song. Yet again, let's be honest.
• 17:29
  Speaker 2: I thought Poison when I was a kid. I heard
• 17:32
Speaker 2: the voices. I was like, those are men. And then
• 17:34
Speaker 2: you looked at the promo photos in their album. You
• 17:36
Speaker 2: are we sure that what's going on here.
• 17:39
Speaker 6: I'm a little older than you. I knew what was
• 17:40
Speaker 6: going the hair metal times or something else. Man, that
• 17:45
  Speaker 6: was something else.
• 17:45
Speaker 3: Oh, I gotta tell you.
• 17:47
Speaker 5: And by the way, Tony the Taylor said to me
• 17:50
Speaker 5: in a text, message, he goes, dude, Brett Michael's nicest man.
• 17:54
Speaker 3: Seriously you'll ever meet.
• 17:55
Speaker 2: Just just just a gentleman man. I talked to him
• 17:58
Speaker 2: for about ten minutes off line. He was reviewing more
• 18:00
Speaker 2: on the hotline before. Just seriously a nice guy. I
• 18:03
Speaker 2: was floored by how nice he was.
• 18:04
Speaker 5: Well, and you couple that with the fact that Tony
• 18:08
Speaker 5: said straight up he's better as a solo artist than
• 18:11
Speaker 5: he was with Poison as a band.
• 18:12
Speaker 3: So and he's going to play all every single one.
• 18:14
Speaker 3: You might have been the only actual musician.
• 18:17
  Speaker 6: I'm not sure.
• 18:19
  Speaker 2: There's a little there was a there was a lot
• 18:20
Speaker 2: about m Major back now, I mean that's not fully true,
• 18:23
Speaker 2: but Brett Michaels is a talented musician. So I'm looking
• 18:26
Speaker 2: forward to that. And then Sunday, of course, tons of
• 18:28
Speaker 2: events that's going to be taking place on Sunday as
• 18:30
Speaker 2: well as we kind of wrap up the week, all
• 18:32
Speaker 2: kinds of things going on, and there's music. There's music
• 18:35
Speaker 2: Sunday night as well. But just again, we're putting kind
• 18:38
Speaker 2: of a bow on this thing, and it's just going
• 18:39
Speaker 2: to be the end to a great week.
• 18:40
Speaker 3: It is everything. W Thomas has stepped up to help
• 18:43
Speaker 3: us through the drum show.
• 18:44
Speaker 5: Drune shows are very expensive and so so we we
• 18:50
Speaker 5: and the closer they are to a holiday, they get
• 18:52
Speaker 5: more expensive. So the good part is Thomas just stepped
• 18:56
Speaker 5: up and said, we'll help take care of this. So
• 18:58
Speaker 5: that's going to be happening. That's going to be that.
• 19:00
Speaker 5: But it's you need to pay attention what happens in
• 19:02
Speaker 5: the morning. We have a car show that is going
• 19:05
Speaker 5: to be on the boulevard. And I listen, five thousand
• 19:07
Speaker 5: comments i've ever heard have been, where's a rod running?
• 19:10
  Speaker 6: Dow up everything?
• 19:12
Speaker 5: Everything happened where the organization there said, our members are
• 19:16
Speaker 5: just not we're slowly dying off, and so we want
• 19:18
Speaker 5: to watch that run right into the sunset.
• 19:20
Speaker 3: And so we have constantly tried to find a way
• 19:22
Speaker 3: to get the cars down to the boulevard.
• 19:25
Speaker 5: So it is a herculean effort that happens as soon
• 19:28
Speaker 5: as Brett Michael steps off stage. I'm not kidding you.
• 19:32
Speaker 5: You're gonna see the stage starting to break down immediately.
• 19:34
Speaker 5: Wow it and it happens overnight and so the the
• 19:38
Speaker 5: you know, the union workers here are awesome, we love them.
• 19:42
Speaker 5: And next thing you know, they break that down and
• 19:44
Speaker 5: by the last sweeper that goes through at about seven
• 19:47
Speaker 5: o'clock in the morning. Then those cars start to roll
• 19:49
Speaker 5: in and so we set that part so where the
• 19:51
Speaker 5: stage was is where a car show happens. And then
• 19:54
Speaker 5: we go into the one o'clock time period, so that
• 19:56
Speaker 5: wraps up around noon ish. I mean, the cars is
• 19:59
Speaker 5: going to be for a while, but then we go
• 20:01
Speaker 5: to one o'clock and it's signed for the let me
• 20:03
Speaker 5: back up noon. You've got the United Way duck drop
• 20:06
Speaker 5: off the bridge and then at what o'clock is the
• 20:10
Speaker 5: Charleston Sermo Boat Races. And so I'm president of the
• 20:13
Speaker 5: American stern Wall Association and we are absolutely thrilled to
• 20:17
Speaker 5: do it. Some of us do it for sports, fun, fun,
• 20:21
Speaker 5: you know, we wait not you know that's really and
• 20:24
Speaker 5: then there are others who who just want to ruin
• 20:26
Speaker 5: your day. And right right, yeah, that's your friend who said,
• 20:29
Speaker 5: I'm not going to run it hard. Our friend Jim Krantz,
• 20:32
Speaker 5: I will only run at eight hundred rpm. You know,
• 20:35
Speaker 5: he's doing eleven hundred rpm down the river and I
• 20:37
Speaker 5: can't catch up. So but but it is the Stirmo
• 20:41
Speaker 5: boat races are are They are fun for us? You know,
• 20:43
Speaker 5: we get we get to do what we don't get
• 20:46
Speaker 5: to do every day, and as we collectively tear the
• 20:48
Speaker 5: river apart. So that is that's actually why we had
• 20:52
Speaker 5: the boats we suggest come off the floating dock because
• 20:55
Speaker 5: we are going to we can destroy a plastic boat
• 20:57
  Speaker 5: with a collective washing out. Yeah, it's just it's a
• 21:03
Speaker 5: nature of the beast. But people love to watch all
• 21:06
Speaker 5: these boats going down the river. And we've got the
• 21:08
Speaker 5: rufous b two, Lou Window Marine Sails, Saint Albans, Love Lou, Mike, Linda,
• 21:15
Speaker 5: the Gary, the whole whole team, uh, Tom two, everybody
• 21:19
Speaker 5: else in the shop. Those the rufous Bee two turns
• 21:22
Speaker 5: one hundred years old this year and he's got fancy
• 21:25
Speaker 5: stuff made up for it, so that's going to be exciting.
• 21:28
Speaker 5: And then the miss Sterling Miss Sterling. That between those
• 21:31
Speaker 5: two boats you're going to see the river rocking. So
• 21:34
Speaker 5: the miss Sterling has had an overhaul after the Regotdas
• 21:38
Speaker 5: season in September last year, it went to dock up
• 21:41
Speaker 5: in up in north north northern Ohio. It's up the
• 21:45
Speaker 5: near Sistersville and so it went to get work done there. Decks,
• 21:49
Speaker 5: read on everything else. So both of these boats are
• 21:52
Speaker 5: shined up for their one hundred year anniversary, on America's
• 21:55
Speaker 5: two hundred fiftieth and the fifth year anniversary of the regatta.
• 21:58
Speaker 6: That's incredible, man, this is gonna be just a story.
• 22:00
Speaker 3: I don't know how the stars lined up like that.
• 22:01
Speaker 6: Oh, by the way, we have some bands, Yeah, yeah,
• 22:03
  Speaker 6: I guess I bet.
• 22:03
Speaker 2: Now I gotta tell just a brief, a brief story
• 22:06
Speaker 2: here with these two bands, specifically Vertical Horizon and Tonic.
• 22:10
Speaker 2: There's certain things in my life. The names Breton Brent
• 22:12
Speaker 2: come to mind that I can never get straight. Like
• 22:14
Speaker 2: if you come to me and your name is Brent,
• 22:16
Speaker 2: I'm gonna call you Brett the rest of the rest
• 22:17
Speaker 2: of my life. It's just the way I am. I
• 22:19
Speaker 2: get the I just I just confuse those things. These
• 22:22
Speaker 2: two bands are bands that I've been that with my
• 22:24
Speaker 2: whole life. Specifically, these two songs, so Vertical Horizon and
• 22:27
Speaker 2: Tonic are going to be here on Sunday. Maybe you're saying,
• 22:30
Speaker 2: I know those bands, but where from?
• 22:32
  Speaker 6: Trust me?
• 22:32
  Speaker 11: You know?
• 22:38
  Speaker 3: Yep, gees everything.
• 22:42
Speaker 2: Now, I get it.
• 22:44
Speaker 6: Vertical Horizon, not Tonic. Tonic is coming up the exactly
• 22:55
  Speaker 6: everybody knows.
• 22:55
  Speaker 12: I don't.
• 22:56
  Speaker 6: I don't just.
• 22:58
  Speaker 2: Don't know.
• 23:00
Speaker 6: Oh yeah. And then of course.
• 23:04
Speaker 1: Fugit on the Sea.
• 23:10
Speaker 6: Everybody knows these songs, right yeah. Boat Party, ah yeah,
• 23:16
Speaker 6: boat Party of Fris House. There we go, it'll be
• 23:18
Speaker 6: down there. That's good stuff.
• 23:20
Speaker 2: So again that is Vertical Rising and Tonic of course,
• 23:22
Speaker 2: those huge songs from the nineties. Vertical Rison is an
• 23:25
Speaker 2: East Coast alternative rock band. Tonic is a West Coast
• 23:27
Speaker 2: alternative rock band. But I have always got him confused.
• 23:29
Speaker 5: Here's what's here's what happens with these alt rock bands.
• 23:32
Speaker 5: You get people that are starting to show up that
• 23:35
Speaker 5: you're like, who are these people? There're gonna be people
• 23:37
Speaker 5: from New York, be sure, from down to Alabama. They
• 23:41
Speaker 5: these alt rock people travel to these shows. I mean
• 23:43
  Speaker 5: there's a free one, huh. Next level. So that's that's
• 23:47
Speaker 5: gonna be one of those days where the local crowd
• 23:49
Speaker 5: will still be here and we will enjoy a nice
• 23:52
Speaker 5: evening because we moved that all down to the Headed
• 23:54
Speaker 5: riverfron Park, right and it becomes a more intimate setting
• 23:56
Speaker 5: on Sunday because you're slowly winding things down. But this
• 24:00
Speaker 5: alt rock stuff brings in tourists. I mean they'll they'll
• 24:03
Speaker 5: be here for the day and then they'll just slowly
• 24:06
Speaker 5: leave on Monday or maybe who knows, maybe one or
• 24:08
Speaker 5: two to say. But that's that's what's fun about that.
• 24:11
Speaker 5: And as I told you off here, yes I didn't.
• 24:14
Speaker 5: It was not my day yesterday. I did not know
• 24:16
Speaker 5: who this Woothy artists were for until I stepped up
• 24:20
Speaker 5: and saw it. I'm gonna we saw the script in
• 24:21
Speaker 5: front of me and I was like.
• 24:22
Speaker 6: Okay, there we go.
• 24:23
Speaker 2: That's good stuff, man. So a fantastic regatta. It's coming
• 24:26
Speaker 2: up over the fourth of July weekend to celebrate America's birthday,
• 24:30
Speaker 2: to celebrate West Virginia, to celebrate some of these great
• 24:32
Speaker 2: bands that are coming through. So just head on over
• 24:34
Speaker 2: to the website. If you have any questions about that
• 24:36
Speaker 2: at all. It's uh Charleston Regatta dot com. Charleston Redotta
• 24:39
Speaker 2: dot com is the website. Head on over there if
• 24:41
Speaker 2: you have any questions. Listen to the station. We'll have
• 24:44
Speaker 2: tons of information out as the dates start to get

  Speaker 2: her closer.
• 24:47
Speaker 5: By the way, I just have to say thank you
• 24:49
Speaker 5: because we've just blown through the bottom of the hour
• 24:51
Speaker 5: and I've never sat in on the show.
• 24:58
Speaker 6: Yeah. Well, but we're gonna talk to right, not go
• 25:00
Speaker 6: any coming up. You can quiz him. I love Brad.
• 25:03

• 25:06

Speaker 2: taking place in the state of West Virginia. Brad is
• 30:12
Speaker 2: always busy and enjoy having on the air whenever I
• 30:15
Speaker 2: fill in for this show. So Brad, good morning. How
• 30:16
Speaker 2: are you doing this morning?
• 30:18
Speaker 9: Oh, hello, good morning. And you know early voting begins
• 30:22
Speaker 9: tex calendar tomorrow. Oh so a lot going on with
• 30:27
Speaker 9: you know, what typically would be a mid term primary election.
• 30:32
Speaker 9: Wes Virginia continues to be a very Trump different state.
• 30:35
Speaker 9: He is not at the top of the ballot this year,
• 30:37
Speaker 9: but that has not stopped a lot of spending, a
• 30:40
Speaker 9: lot of activity, particularly in state Senate and State House
• 30:47
Speaker 9: of Delegates races. You know, hopefully, hopefully Democrats are not
• 30:53
Speaker 9: listening if you are set your thoughts aside. The political
• 30:58
Speaker 9: competition at this moment moment is within the Republican Party
• 31:02
Speaker 9: itself in West Virginia, and that has taken a shape
• 31:06
  Speaker 9: that I don't think I've ever seen. I mean, just
• 31:09
Speaker 9: really incredible third party spending in this you know primary,
• 31:15
Speaker 9: it is an off year. You know, you're not seeing
• 31:18
Speaker 9: the president or the governor at the top of the ticket.
• 31:21
Speaker 9: So just incredible spending, but also real divide I mean
• 31:26
Speaker 9: factions in the Republican Party with the governor having a
• 31:32
Speaker 9: seemingly favored slate of candidates, Governor Patrick Morrissey making no
• 31:35
Speaker 9: bones about it, I mean hitting the road and endorsing
• 31:38
Speaker 9: Republicans against other Republicans, political action committees associated with Governor
• 31:44
Speaker 9: Morrissey doing heavy spending both for and against candidates. And
• 31:49
Speaker 9: then you know, on the other side, loosely is a
• 31:54
Speaker 9: different alignment of candidates. Senator Capito, who will be on
• 31:57
Speaker 9: the ballot running for election, has you know, sort of
• 32:03
Speaker 9: a little more quietly but but done endorsements herself of
• 32:07
Speaker 9: a lot of the Senate, State Senate, and House of
• 32:11
Speaker 9: Delegates candidates. Really on the opposite side of the Morrissey line,
• 32:16
Speaker 9: you know, standing with those candidates that she favors being
• 32:21
Speaker 9: on video on Facebook or Twitter or wherever, uh with
• 32:26
Speaker 9: with video conversations that can be shared. And so you know,
• 32:32
Speaker 9: that kind of split within the Republican Party itself with
• 32:37
Speaker 9: sort of Kem Morrissey on one side and Team Capito
• 32:40
Speaker 9: on the other. I think, you know, pretty intriguing. And
• 32:44
Speaker 9: some of those canal races are are right there in
• 32:47
  Speaker 9: the mix.
• 32:48
Speaker 2: Yeah, and talk about that just a little bit. I
• 32:50
Speaker 2: was looking into this and following your reporting on it,
• 32:53
Speaker 2: and there is some things and I just want to
• 32:55
Speaker 2: present this non judgmental, but just some facts that have
• 32:59
Speaker 2: been on earth. I believe that the governors has a
• 33:03
Speaker 2: pack that he's associated with, the Sugar Maple pack. That
• 33:08
Speaker 2: thing has raised over half a million dollars so far.
• 33:11
Speaker 2: And it's interesting because less than eight percent of the
• 33:13
Speaker 2: contributions that that thing has that that thing is raised,
• 33:16
Speaker 2: so nearly half a million dollars has come within the
• 33:18
Speaker 2: state of West Virginia, so it's most of it that
• 33:20
Speaker 2: that it's coming outside of that state, and with relatively
• 33:24
Speaker 2: large donations as well. I think the average donation is
• 33:26
Speaker 2: about twenty five thousand dollars, so These are definitely people
• 33:29
Speaker 2: that are alongside of the governor's political ambitions and his views,
• 33:35
Speaker 2: but not necessarily those within the state that that are
• 33:39
Speaker 2: that are that are funding it. These are primarily coming
• 33:41
Speaker 2: from outside the state.
• 33:44
Speaker 9: Yeah, several hedge fund managers right at the top of
• 33:48
Speaker 9: the giving chain for Sugar Maple Pack. One is Jeff
• 33:53
Speaker 9: Yass who is leader of a hedge fund in his
• 33:59
Speaker 9: residency and Sylvania. He's a mega downer to Republican and
• 34:03
Speaker 9: libertarian causes, mostly on school choice issues highly motivated by
• 34:10
Speaker 9: increased flexibility like school bouchers and stuff. Another hedge fund
• 34:15
Speaker 9: manager Thomas W. Winstin Wwinston of New York City, who
• 34:19
Speaker 9: is chairman of the board of trustees of the Fairmount Institute,
• 34:25
Speaker 9: conservative think tank. Another hundred thousand dollars from him. Sean
• 34:30
Speaker 9: Feiler of Stanford, Connecticut fifty thousand dollars from him one
• 34:35
Speaker 9: hundred thousand dollars to Sugar Maple Pack from an entity
• 34:42
Speaker 9: called Yes Dot Every Dot Kid. That is an organization
• 34:48
Speaker 9: intending setting out to transform K through twelve education in
• 34:52
Speaker 9: America through a family first approach. So really a common
• 34:55
Speaker 9: theme of ultra rich folks and their common interest in
• 35:03
Speaker 9: you know, school choice stuff, whether it's charter schools or
• 35:07
Speaker 9: the kind of education vultures that in West Virginia are
• 35:10
Speaker 9: presented through the Hope Scholarship. What I think is interesting is,
• 35:14
Speaker 9: you know, if you're getting those flyers sent to your home, uh,
• 35:19
Speaker 9: they don't really mention much about school choice or the
• 35:21
Speaker 9: Hope Scholarship for preserving it or anything else. The theme
• 35:24
Speaker 9: that I see in the in the flyers across my
• 35:28
Speaker 9: I are, you know, these issues of transgender lifestyles and
• 35:35
Speaker 9: illegal immigrants and the crackdown on on illegal immigrants. It's
• 35:42
Speaker 9: I mean, it's it's very red meat flyers that are
• 35:45
Speaker 9: being distributed, Whereas it really looks like these high profile
• 35:49
Speaker 9: donors are are interested in this issue of school choice.
• 35:52
Speaker 2: Yeah, it is an interesting thing to think about. Where
• 35:55
Speaker 2: the top donors if you talk about Gas and Clintonstein,
• 35:59
Speaker 2: the cock that the Koch Foundation, who also is a
• 36:02
Speaker 2: huge donor to this pack, and another hedge fund manager
• 36:07
  Speaker 2: out of Connecticut.
• 36:08
Speaker 6: Pretty much all of these.
• 36:10
Speaker 2: These main funders are all usually into school choice and
• 36:14
Speaker 2: religious issues, but the flyers are all like immigration and
• 36:18
Speaker 2: different things along those lines. I guess it's I guess
• 36:20
Speaker 2: it depends on what gets the attention of the voters.
• 36:23
Speaker 9: I mean, it is a primary election, it's it's off year.
• 36:27
Speaker 9: So which you're thinking, I think, is that the most motivated,
• 36:32
Speaker 9: you know, most conservative people will be the ones to
• 36:35
Speaker 9: come out to vote. The calculation seems to be that
• 36:40
Speaker 9: the you know, the issues that you see on the
• 36:42
Speaker 9: flyers are the ones that are going to motivate these
• 36:44
Speaker 9: folks to come out and do the voting, you know,
• 36:47
Speaker 9: on the school choice issue. Honestly, the legislative session this year,
• 36:51
Speaker 9: there was discussion of the Hope Scholarship, but nothing happened
• 36:57
Speaker 9: except that it expanded this year, as it was already
• 37:00
Speaker 9: intended to do so the first time, to all non
• 37:04
Speaker 9: public school families. So it did an enormous expansion for people.
• 37:11
Speaker 9: And then there were some discussions, particularly in the House
• 37:15
Speaker 9: Finance Committee, of narrowing it down, narrowing down the guidelines
• 37:21
Speaker 9: in some way, but that didn't happen. It never even
• 37:23
Speaker 9: went to a committee vote. The only thing that came
• 37:26
Speaker 9: out of that discussion at all was making payments to
• 37:30
Speaker 9: families quarterly instead of twice a year. I mean, so
• 37:36
Speaker 9: that's that's nothing to get your heart racing over. But
• 37:40
Speaker 9: whatever has happened, you know, the governor and the political
• 37:44
Speaker 9: action committees associated with his area of wesperchinir Republican politics
• 37:53
Speaker 9: have been highly motivated, very active, and it seems like,
• 37:57
Speaker 9: you know, some of the folks that they are going
• 38:00
Speaker 9: after have been on you know, just the other side,
• 38:04
Speaker 9: not even really doing anything, but the other side of
• 38:06
Speaker 9: the school choice debate.
• 38:08
Speaker 2: Yeah, like Finance Finance Chair Vernon Chris and vice chair
• 38:13
Speaker 2: Clay Rally just suggested maybe some limits that didn't even
• 38:17
Speaker 2: get past. But there they're targets going about this. Yeah,
• 38:19
Speaker 2: David just were talking about it, right, and they are
• 38:21
Speaker 2: targets of this. Following Brad mc laney's reporting, we were
• 38:24
Speaker 2: talking about the Sugar Maple, but also Americans for Prosperity,
• 38:27
Speaker 2: School Freedom Fund, Make Liberty Win Mountaineer Conservative Action about
• 38:33
Speaker 2: one point six million dollars in Westervirginia legislative late races
• 38:37
Speaker 2: all the way down to I mean the state level,
• 38:39
Speaker 2: I mean in Conall County.
• 38:40
Speaker 6: There has been a.
• 38:44
Speaker 2: Fund nearly forty thousand dollars that's been putting into into
• 38:46
Speaker 2: a candidate. From this fund, one of the governors preferred
• 38:49
Speaker 2: in a county race forty thousand dollars in a county
• 38:51
Speaker 2: race for one of the governor's preferred choices. Well, whatever
• 38:55
Speaker 2: that means, just presenting the information for you. But it
• 38:57
Speaker 2: is interesting because that's not something I think. Mitch Carmichael
• 38:59
Speaker 2: had a quote about this, and he's been around the
• 39:03
Speaker 2: government Leviathan a lot. He said, very unique as far
• 39:06
Speaker 2: as he's as far as he's concerned, never say anything
• 39:08
  Speaker 2: like this before.
• 39:10
Speaker 9: Yeah, I mean, so I've written a bit about this.
• 39:14
Speaker 9: I focused on you know this, this the spending by
• 39:18
Speaker 9: this pack that's really directly associated with the governor. A
• 39:21
Speaker 9: friend of the program, Stephen Allen Adams of the Augen Newspapers,
• 39:24
Speaker 9: had a broader piece and then a follow up commentary
• 39:28
Speaker 9: within the past few days. So if if you're listening
• 39:31
Speaker 9: out there and you navigate to Stephen's Twitter feed or
• 39:35
Speaker 9: any of the Augen newspapers like the Parkersburg Use, the Sentinel,
• 39:39
Speaker 9: or the Wheeling Intelligencer, those articles are are there. The
• 39:44
Speaker 9: main piece was a broad look at just all of
• 39:48
Speaker 9: the enormous spending by a set of political action committees.
• 39:53
Speaker 9: And then today Amelia Nicely, another friend of the program
• 39:56
Speaker 9: from West Virginia Watch, has a perspective piece on all
• 40:00
Speaker 9: of the spending with quotes and takes from a lot
• 40:04
Speaker 9: of West Virginia political figures, all saying, like Mitch Carmichael
• 40:09
Speaker 9: that this is, you know, really unprecedented spending and unprecedented
• 40:13
Speaker 9: divisiveness within West Virginia's dominant political party.
• 40:18
Speaker 2: Interesting stuff. So followed along wv Metronews dot com. Other
• 40:21
Speaker 2: friends of the program like Amelia Nicely and Stephen al Adams,
• 40:25
Speaker 2: like Brad, talked about following the story along. Information's the best,
• 40:30
Speaker 2: the best armor and weapon for you. Brad, Do you
• 40:32
Speaker 2: have a minute to stick around with me? Let me
• 40:34
Speaker 2: take a break. I want to just get an update
• 40:36

Speaker 17: and independently endorsed by law enforcement. He stands with those

Speaker 2: Favity love has brought to you, in part by your
• 43:53
Speaker 2: hometown baseball team, the Charleston dirty Birds. Gomar Ballpark is
• 43:56
Speaker 2: the place to be. The Charleston Dirty Birds are back
• 43:59
Speaker 2: April twenty eight through May third. On May first, be
• 44:02
Speaker 2: one of the first fans through the gates for a
• 44:04
Speaker 2: Jason Williams bobblehead giveaway and meet and greet presented by Kart.
• 44:09
Speaker 2: Then on May second, see mountaineer favorite Owen Schmidt for
• 44:12
Speaker 2: a meet and greet presented by the Center for Oregon
• 44:14
Speaker 2: Recovery and Education. Stick around for the postgame fireworks sponsored
• 44:18
Speaker 2: by West Virginia State Treasurer's Office. Get your take us
• 44:20
Speaker 2: now at dirty Birds Baseball dot com. So j Willis
• 44:24
Speaker 2: Jason Williams will be there on May first. We just
• 44:25
Speaker 2: had him on hotline for an interview a couple of
• 44:27
Speaker 2: weeks ago. Is good checking into with chocolate White Chocolate.
• 44:31
Speaker 2: Has been a long time since since I've since we've
• 44:35
Speaker 2: done Meetia anyway with Jason Williams. So it's nice to
• 44:37
Speaker 2: have him back on the airwaves around here. It was
• 44:38
Speaker 2: nice talking to him earlier. So that's going to be
• 44:40
Speaker 2: May first. Over at Gomork Ballpark. Brad Malcohaney is still
• 44:44
Speaker 2: with me. Going to wrap up talking a little bit
• 44:46
Speaker 2: about some of the state news with updating the situation
• 44:49
Speaker 2: around the Greenbrier. Of course, US Senator gem Justice's family
• 44:52
Speaker 2: owned Greenbrier Resort is locked in federal court with White
• 44:55
Speaker 2: Software Springs Holdings, a newly formed a TRT Holdings affiliate
• 44:58
Speaker 2: and Omni Hotels cousin, which purchased the nearly three hundred
• 45:02
Speaker 2: million in first lean debt from Carter Bank and Trust
• 45:05
Speaker 2: and immediately moved the moved it to receivership to appoint
• 45:09
Speaker 2: a third party caretaker of the property. There's been a
• 45:11
Speaker 2: lot of behind the scenes movement beyond this. Most recently
• 45:16
Speaker 2: the hearing that was scheduled from a eleventh has been
• 45:19
Speaker 2: moved to June eighth. And I think that's where, at
• 45:23
Speaker 2: least at first plush where we stand right now.
• 45:25
  Speaker 6: Brad.
• 45:27
Speaker 9: Yeah, And so you know, my big takeaway and I'm
• 45:31
Speaker 9: just kind of reading the tea leaves about this, but
• 45:34
Speaker 9: Omni the owner, the Texas billionaire owners of the Omni
• 45:38
Speaker 9: resort chain, had filed for on an emergency basis a
• 45:44
Speaker 9: receiver to be named as a third party caretaker for
• 45:48
Speaker 9: the Greenbrier hotel because they said that that is their collateral.
• 45:55
Speaker 9: They own the debt on the hotel, and they are
• 45:58
Speaker 9: of the position the the justices have so many financial
• 46:05
Speaker 9: strains that they cannot be trusted a to to not
• 46:09
Speaker 9: divert money away from the hotel, b to do the
• 46:14
Speaker 9: kind of deferred maintenance and management that is required to
• 46:19
Speaker 9: keep up the property. And so they said, you know,
• 46:22
Speaker 9: we need a third party caretaker to be named, you know,
• 46:26
Speaker 9: pretty much immediately by the judge. So it was hot,
• 46:31
Speaker 9: you know, they moved very swiftly, struck like lightning. And
• 46:37
Speaker 9: the justices have you know, made their own filings, have
• 46:41
Speaker 9: fought the matter. And you know, if you were to
• 46:46
Speaker 9: run a gym justice playbook, which which I have been
• 46:49
Speaker 9: subject to maybe four or five times over the years,
• 46:52
Speaker 9: one of the plays will be slow it down. And
• 46:55
Speaker 9: that is the phase that we appear to be in
• 46:58
Speaker 9: now because both sides, the lawyers for the Omni owners
• 47:03
Speaker 9: and the lawyers for the justices, filed together to ask
• 47:08
Speaker 9: the judge to not go ahead with the hearing that
• 47:11
Speaker 9: he had set for whatever the date was, May eleventh,
• 47:18
Speaker 9: and instead to hold off that The judge agreed to
• 47:23
Speaker 9: that and delayed by about a month. As a side note,
• 47:28
Speaker 9: it's a little bit of a relief to me. The
• 47:30
Speaker 9: hearing was going to happen day after Mother's Day and
• 47:33
Speaker 9: day before election day, and I got things going on.
• 47:37
Speaker 9: I do think it will be a hot news item,
• 47:41
Speaker 9: but I got other things at that point. So it
• 47:43
Speaker 9: helps with my personal schedule for it to be in
• 47:47
  Speaker 9: June instead.
• 47:47
  Speaker 6: But my other.
• 47:49
Speaker 9: Takeaway is, all right, this is the cooling saucer, and
• 47:53
Speaker 9: who knows what will happen next. I mean, I can't
• 47:55
Speaker 9: tell you and the listeners how many times something it
• 47:58
Speaker 9: seemed like an emergency when Jim Justice has said, you know,
• 48:04
Speaker 9: it'll all be all right, and and you think, Bory,
• 48:07
Speaker 9: how's he going to pull a rabbit out of this hat? Well,
• 48:10
Speaker 9: you know, here we are pipity hop. There's a there's
• 48:13
Speaker 9: a month cooling off period, and it appeared dire.
• 48:16
Speaker 2: But we'll just see that's uh And there's more to
• 48:19
Speaker 2: get into with this, but I have to cut your loose, Brad.
• 48:21
Speaker 2: You've alread given me enough of your time in this story.
• 48:23
Speaker 2: You can follow along at wv metro news dot com.
• 48:25
Speaker 2: Brad's done a great job with it, all the informations
• 48:27
Speaker 2: right there in a bit of a cooling phase right now.
• 48:29
Speaker 2: As Brad has mentioned. Also, Brad doing a great job
• 48:31
Speaker 2: in breaking down the spending for political actions here from
