- 0:01What is faith? Faith has generally been
- 0:05associated with belief in a religion and it's specific
- 0:09tenants, or articles of faith. We are educated within our
- 0:14religion of choice about the basic beliefs, that underlie,
- 0:18that religion, and we are asked to accept them on faith.
- 0:24In some cases, these articles of Faith are due to negotiated
- 0:28agreements among Church Elders, at some point in the distant
- 0:32past. And in some cases, these beliefs
- 0:36are fully contradicted by knowledge that has subsequently
- 0:39come to light as Humanity grows and advances in its
- 0:43understanding. It is, for this reason,
- 0:47primarily that science has rejected the common idea of
- 0:51faith faith. However, is not the affirmation
- 0:55of beliefs, tenants or dogmas associated.
- 0:59With a specific religious background in its deepest and
- 1:04truest sense, Faith represents a form of non mental, knowing that
- 1:09nevertheless is felt as true and self-evident.
- 1:14For those who are immersed in the mental Consciousness, the
- 1:18idea that there can be a form of knowledge that is not directly
- 1:22available to the mind or that relies on an instrument of
- 1:26knowing other than the mind is inconceivable.
- 1:30Yet, if we examine closely, we can see that the range of mental
- 1:35understanding is limited within a specific upper and lower
- 1:38field. Below the mental level of
- 1:42understanding knowing takes the form of a subconscious or even
- 1:46unconscious habit, which we call Instinct.
- 1:51Instinct does not rely on the mind and is evident throughout
- 1:55the Animal Kingdom in some cases.
- 1:58This instinct is very precise and detailed and it's working
- 2:03just as there is a form of knowing below the mental field.
- 2:07There are also forms of knowing above the I filled the evolution
- 2:12of Consciousness is not completed and man, therefore is
- 2:17what funeral been do? Calls a transitional being Faith
- 2:23them from this standpoint is not a dogmatic belief in a system of
- 2:27ideas. But rather the confirmation of a
- 2:31knowledge obtained through a different instrument of knowing
- 2:34than the mind the rightness and truth of the faith is something
- 2:39more akin to intuition and to mental logic, Faith, gives the
- 2:45individual the courage to continue even when faced with
- 2:49the contradictory view of the mind, or the vital being SRI
- 2:54aurobindo writes, quote Faith does not depend upon experience.
- 3:01It is something that is there before experienced when one
- 3:05starts the yoga, it is not usually on the strength of
- 3:08experience, but on the strength of faith, it is.
- 3:13So not only in yoga and the spiritual life, but in ordinary
- 3:16life, also, all men of action, discoverers inventors, creators
- 3:23of Acknowledge proceed by faith and until the proof is made, or
- 3:28the thing done, they go on. In spite of disappointment,
- 3:33failure, disproof, denial, because of something in them
- 3:38that tells them that this is the truth.
- 3:41The thing that must be followed, and done ramakrishna even went
- 3:46so far as to say when asked, whether Blind Faith was not
- 3:51wrong. The Blind Faith was the only
- 3:54kind to have for Faith as either blind.
- 3:57Or it is not Faith, but something else reasoned.
- 4:01Inference, proved conviction where a certain knowledge.
- 4:07Faith is the souls witness to something, not yet, manifested
- 4:11achieved or realized, but which yet the nowhere within us even
- 4:16in the absence of all indications feels to be true or
- 4:21sir pleat supremely worth following or achieving. this
- 4:27thing within us can last even when there is no fixed belief,
- 4:31in the mind, even when the vital struggles in Revolt and refuses,
- 4:36Who is there that practices the yoga and has not his periods
- 4:41long periods of disappointment and failure and disbelief and
- 4:47darkness. But there is something that
- 4:50sustains him and even goes on in spite of himself.
- 4:54Because it feels that what it followed after was yet true and
- 4:59it more than feels, it knows. The fundamental Faith In Yoga.
- 5:05Is this inherent in the soul that the Divine exists?
- 5:10And the Divine is the one thing to be followed after.
- 5:14Nothing else in life is worth having in comparison with that.
- 5:19So long as a man has that Faith, he is marked for the spiritual
- 5:24life and I will say that even if his nature is full of obstacles
- 5:30and crammed, with denials and difficulties, and even if he has
- 5:34many years of struggle, he is marked out for success in the
- 5:39spiritual life. And quote, reference SRI
