- 1:39Speaker 2: you pronounce your name?
- 1:40Speaker 1: Yes?
- 1:41Speaker 6: Yes?
- 1:42Speaker 1: Oh no, we're having problems with his audio.
- 1:45Speaker 4: Jazz Biss says, uh, Dan only shows up with the
- 1:47Speaker 4: good movies.
- 1:49Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, it's not a bad policy.
- 1:57Speaker 4: So how's everybody's week going? Everybody good?
- 2:02Speaker 1: Oh yeah? Yeah? So Versta good.
- 2:05Speaker 3: Snowed here yesterday?
- 2:09Speaker 4: Yeah here last week too.
- 2:11Speaker 1: Oh wow.
- 2:13Speaker 3: I woke up and I was like, what the hell
- 2:14Speaker 3: is this?
- 2:17Speaker 7: But every time every time we got a late snowstorm
- 2:20Speaker 7: like this, I don't feel bad about having not started
- 2:24Speaker 7: the spring yard work yet.
- 2:25Speaker 3: I'm like, yeah, it doesn't matter today.
- 2:28Speaker 2: So yeah, I feel the same way about uh waxing
- 2:32Speaker 2: my motorcycle.
- 2:34Speaker 1: There you go, so nice? Nice.
- 2:39Speaker 4: I walk out, I.
- 2:41Speaker 2: Look at it and and and it looks back at me,
- 2:44Speaker 2: and it's like, what what what's up?
- 2:46Speaker 3: Scott?
- 2:46Speaker 4: I'm like, I opened the grade doom. I'm like, look,
- 2:48Speaker 4: it's snowing out. So we're good, right Yeah? So uh
- 2:56Speaker 4: yeah Friday, I I went to the comic con.
- 2:59Speaker 1: Oh yeah, how'd that go?
- 3:00Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 3:01Speaker 2: Comic CON's great as always. No Star Trek celebrities this
- 3:04Speaker 2: uh this year for the spring comic cons.
- 3:06Speaker 1: So that's so good.
- 3:08Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, so there were no panels. I didn't even
- 3:11Speaker 2: go yesterday. I was busy yesterday. Uh, my my son
- 3:14Speaker 2: and I are going today. He's he's costplaying as some
- 3:20Speaker 2: anime person that I.
- 3:23Speaker 4: Have never heard of. Yeah.
- 3:28Speaker 2: So actually yeah, them and my wife con yesterday and
- 3:31Speaker 2: people are like, oh, look, it's so and so, yeah,
- 3:33Speaker 2: so and so let me get a picture with so
- 3:35Speaker 2: and so.
- 3:35Speaker 4: I'm like, I don't, I don't know who you are.
- 3:38Speaker 7: I know, follow I only asked because my you know,
- 3:46Speaker 7: for Halloween, my son went as a character from an
- 3:50Speaker 7: anime called Jiu Jitsu Kaisen, and I had no idea
- 3:55Speaker 7: what it was.
- 3:56Speaker 3: But in the same situation, we go to the event
- 3:58Speaker 3: and everybody's like jiu Jitsu.
- 4:01Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, well and he's wearing a black wig. Yeah.
- 4:07Speaker 2: So so with my son, he's wearing this black wig,
- 4:10Speaker 2: he's got a he's got a snake around his neck,
- 4:13Speaker 2: and he's got a wavy flame sword. And here's what's
- 4:18Speaker 2: funny about I wanted to bring up something about security
- 4:22Speaker 2: at comic cons. Last year, I went to the same
- 4:26Speaker 2: comic con. It's at the Kalamsu Expo Center. And I
- 4:29Speaker 2: walk up and, uh, you know, I when I go
- 4:33Speaker 2: to places like that, I you know, I know the deal.
- 4:36Speaker 2: So you leave certain things behind. And I walked up
- 4:39Speaker 2: to the con and and they're like, I didn't have
- 4:41Speaker 2: a bag or anything. And the guy looks at my
- 4:44Speaker 2: belt and he goes, what's that. I got my leatherman
- 4:47Speaker 2: on my on my pouch, you know, yeah, it's just
- 4:51Speaker 2: a little multitool, right, it's it's players.
- 4:55Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 4:56Speaker 2: And uh He's like, uh, does I have a knife?
- 4:59Speaker 2: And I said, well, yeah, it's got this. You know
- 5:00Speaker 2: it's this is literally a two and a half inch
- 5:03Speaker 2: ball knife. He goes, I can't can't come into the
- 5:06Speaker 2: con with that, And as he said that, a guy
- 5:11Speaker 2: walked by with a four foot sharpened sword.
- 5:18Speaker 4: What And I'm like, he's like part of cosplay. I
- 5:22Speaker 4: can't do anything about it. I'm like, so you're not
- 5:26Speaker 4: You're worried about this, but you're not worried about the You.
- 5:33Speaker 1: Should have said that's your cosplay outfit as a dad.
- 5:36Speaker 2: Yeah, this is my this is my dad cosplay.
- 5:41Speaker 4: Yeah. Yeah, So I didn't argue make a seed, but okay,
- 5:47Speaker 4: but he didn't check my pockets. That's the thing. If
- 5:50Speaker 4: I had him, I would have been just fine.
- 5:52Speaker 2: Now, I'm not saying whether or not I walked back
- 5:55Speaker 2: towards my car, slipped my leather moon back in my
- 5:57Speaker 2: pocket and then walked back.
- 5:59Speaker 4: I'm not saying that what happened. I mean, I won't
- 6:02Speaker 4: say that out loud.
- 6:04Speaker 1: Daryld does cosplay his blue collar.
- 6:06Speaker 4: Worker right exactly.
- 6:09Speaker 3: Here's the thing, that there's security, and then there's.
- 6:12Speaker 7: The illusion of security, right, and that there is an
- 6:15Speaker 7: illusion of security, and said, what's said is of security
- 6:22Speaker 7: is the illusion of security going through TSA at the airport.
- 6:26Speaker 7: That's that's the real deal. That's the real deal. Having
- 6:30Speaker 7: been pat down, going into like a stadium or something,
- 6:33Speaker 7: that's nonsense. They like touch the the middle of your back,
- 6:37Speaker 7: they touch your you know, this is where I keep
- 6:40Speaker 7: my gun. Make sure you're in your hand down outside
- 6:43Speaker 7: of my.
- 6:44Speaker 1: My arm I got, I got my daryager right there,
- 6:46Speaker 1: ready to go.
- 6:48Speaker 2: I don't understand it, and I've never understood. I've never understood.
- 6:52Speaker 2: I don't want to turn this. Yeah, I've never understood
- 6:56Speaker 2: the new weapons signs like yeah, okay, guess guess who's
- 7:01Speaker 2: the guy you don't have to worry about? Right, Yeah,
- 7:06Speaker 2: But anyways, I digress. I just thought it was interesting.
- 7:12Speaker 1: All right, Well, should we get to the Star Trek News.
- 7:17Speaker 4: Yeah, I suppose you have my thank.
- 7:21Speaker 5: You, We can do that, okay, Star Trek News. All right,
- 7:29Speaker 5: so our first news story goes to us from screen
- 7:32Speaker 5: Rants and uh, you know, last week we talked about
- 7:36Speaker 5: the news strange New Worlds trailer that had come out
- 7:39Speaker 5: you know, because we're written waiting for a season three,
- 7:43Speaker 5: but people have noticed that there's a character that is
- 7:46Speaker 5: missing in the trailer. Uh oh that character, yeah, is
- 7:51Speaker 5: Captain Marie Battell, who is in the slipphanger for there
- 7:59Speaker 5: that was at the end of the show. She was
- 8:02Speaker 5: shown to be having an a bore born.
- 8:08Speaker 1: Baby. I guess inside of her like they're doing it
- 8:10Speaker 1: like alien style.
- 8:11Speaker 2: Now I'm gonna have to rewatch season two of Strangey
- 8:14Speaker 2: Worlds because I don't remember anything from the second half
- 8:16Speaker 2: of that season.
- 8:17Speaker 5: And Nurse Chopple was trying to get it out and
- 8:19Speaker 5: that was a clipphanger, like will they be able to
- 8:21Speaker 5: save Captain Bettel or not? And uh but she's nowhere
- 8:25Speaker 5: else in the trailer, so people are like, oh no,
- 8:28Speaker 5: does she die so.
- 8:32Speaker 7: And it says the outlook for her is not good.
- 8:35Speaker 5: Ye, well she's a side character, so yeah, pretty much. Yeah, yeah,
- 8:42Speaker 5: they could definitely red shirt her. So I don't know
- 8:45Speaker 5: what do you think. Scott Dan think thinks that it's
- 8:48Speaker 5: no good.
- 8:48Speaker 2: But I thought her character was always unnecessary. I think
- 8:55Speaker 2: they wanted to give Bike a backstory and I think
- 8:57Speaker 2: they just I like her as an actress. I think
- 9:00Speaker 2: she's you know, she's pretty, she's a good actress, she's
- 9:04Speaker 2: she you know. But I don't think that that character
- 9:07Speaker 2: brings a whole lot to strange new worlds, right, you know.
- 9:12Speaker 2: I think they just brought an outside character to give
- 9:13Speaker 2: him a backstory.
- 9:15Speaker 4: Yeah. Plus she's way too young for him. Anyways, there
- 9:18Speaker 4: you go.
- 9:18Speaker 5: Well, we'll see what happens. Then our next new story
- 9:24Speaker 5: comes to us from Game Rants. Let me bring this
- 9:27Speaker 5: up here. I don't know if you've seen this. He's
- 9:31Speaker 5: been making the rounds, but Will Wheaton has been out
- 9:34Speaker 5: there and he's been talking a little bit about a
- 9:39Speaker 5: lesser known Star Trek show, Prodigy, and he is trying
- 9:44Speaker 5: to get the word out that Prodigy is not just
- 9:47Speaker 5: for kids. He says Prodigy is for Star Trek fans,
- 9:51Speaker 5: that it's a really well done show. And one of
- 9:54Speaker 5: the main reasons he says that is he feels that
- 9:58Speaker 5: Star Trek Prodigy is the one of the shows that
- 10:01Speaker 5: got Leslie Crusher right.
- 10:05Speaker 4: So I don't know I.
- 10:08Speaker 2: Got that, but I've gotten I've only seen episode one
- 10:11Speaker 2: of season two.
- 10:13Speaker 5: We've seen a few episodes of season two reviewed at
- 10:19Speaker 5: We got like through the first six I.
- 10:20Speaker 1: Think or something like that.
- 10:23Speaker 4: Yeah, how did I like it?
- 10:25Speaker 1: You said it was fine?
- 10:28Speaker 3: Yeah, it.
- 10:32Speaker 2: Apparently I should Yeah, like I said, I forgot I
- 10:41Speaker 2: forgot that. I forgot that. You know, Captain what's her face?
- 10:46Speaker 2: Captain Ripley was impregnated with a gorn baby.
- 10:49Speaker 5: So that's right, that's right, you know yeah yeah, so yeah,
- 10:54Speaker 5: apparently will wet and drop this in a in a
- 10:55Speaker 5: Reddit ama where he talked about you know that it's
- 10:59Speaker 5: not just a good show, you know, it's it's a
- 11:01Speaker 5: good show and people should give it a chance.
- 11:03Speaker 1: And you know, they also did my character, right, so
- 11:06Speaker 1: go enjoy it.
- 11:07Speaker 4: Well okay, yeah, sure.
- 11:09Speaker 1: Yeah, so yeah, that's on the to watch list.
- 11:13Speaker 2: I guess right, I will finish it, just like I
- 11:18Speaker 2: will finish the original series.
- 11:20Speaker 4: Right, I still haven't made any progress in the original series.
- 11:23Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, you're right.
- 11:26Speaker 5: And then our last news story comes to us from
- 11:29Speaker 5: CBR Comic Book Resources and Lower Star Trek Lower Decks
- 11:35Speaker 5: is getting nominated for two prestigious sci fi awards.
- 11:39Speaker 4: Uh.
- 11:40Speaker 5: They are up for a couple of what is the
- 11:43Speaker 5: Sword the Hugo Awards. We have a couple of other
- 11:46Speaker 5: episodes are being nominated. The FISSI Request and the next
- 11:50Speaker 5: are the new next Generation. So the last two episodes
- 11:53Speaker 5: are both being nominated for Hugo Awards. The Hugo words
- 11:58Speaker 5: are pretty big sci fi or contest over year, so
- 12:03Speaker 5: that's cool.
- 12:04Speaker 1: They're being nominated, so that i'd bring that up.
- 12:08Speaker 5: I did also see that the Lower Decks Steel Book
- 12:13Speaker 5: is on sale on Amazon dropped down to like less
- 12:17Speaker 5: than twenty bucks.
- 12:18Speaker 4: Really, so ye series.
- 12:21Speaker 2: Yeah, so I have to write that down on a
- 12:24Speaker 2: personal note because yeah, yeah, I read somewhere yesterday that
- 12:29Speaker 2: somebody this might not have been in the US. It
- 12:32Speaker 2: probably wasn't, but that they were having a hard time
- 12:34Speaker 2: watching certain episodes of certain Star Trek series on Paramount
- 12:40Speaker 2: Plus Regular. They could only watch it if they had
- 12:42Speaker 2: Paramount plus plus. Oh wow, So yeah yeah Paramount plus plus.
- 12:51Speaker 4: So yeah, yeah, digital media.
- 12:53Speaker 2: Man, I I'm you know, if I if I see
- 12:55Speaker 2: something in a bin or at a garage sale, H
- 12:59Speaker 2: pick it.
- 12:59Speaker 1: Up and then I don't.
- 13:02Speaker 5: I don't know where this fits in our show, but
- 13:03Speaker 5: I thought i'd bring this up just because I think
- 13:06Speaker 5: this audience would love this. So do you guys know
- 13:11Speaker 5: who Dwayne McDuffie is.
- 13:15Speaker 4: No, but I do know who the other people on
- 13:17Speaker 4: the screen.
- 13:17Speaker 5: Are okay, Yeah, we got a visual aid for those
- 13:19Speaker 5: of you listening. We got Dwayne McDuffie on the on
- 13:22Speaker 5: the screen, Michael Dorn on the screen, and Holly Berry. Yes,
- 13:29Speaker 5: he created the Milestone Universe, which has icon and static
- 13:36Speaker 5: from Static Shock. He created a lot of African American
- 13:41Speaker 5: superheroes and Old Comic Book Company for that. So yeah,
- 13:45Speaker 5: he's best known as the creator of Static Shock. But
- 13:49Speaker 5: surprisingly enough, a guy who writes comic books is a
- 13:51Speaker 5: giant nerd just like the rest of us.
- 13:54Speaker 1: And way back when there he put this his blog.
- 14:00Speaker 5: Apparently the blog has a bit since been taken down,
- 14:03Speaker 5: but I heard about this somewhere else and I wanted
- 14:07Speaker 5: to share this story. I went and looked apparently the blog.
- 14:11Speaker 5: I used the wayback machine and it was on there.
- 14:13Speaker 5: So Dwayne sells the story. He was at a one
- 14:18Speaker 5: of the premieres for one of the next Gen movies
- 14:21Speaker 5: and he had snuck himself in there. He wasn't supposed
- 14:24Speaker 5: to be there, he was not invited, but he stuck
- 14:27Speaker 5: himself in and at the premiere, halle Berry kept bumping
- 14:32Speaker 5: into him and kept saying, Michael, I love you.
- 14:36Speaker 1: You're so great. As warm. She had confused him from
- 14:39Speaker 1: Michael Dorn.
- 14:41Speaker 5: And Dwayne did not want to like let her down,
- 14:46Speaker 5: but he also didn't want to get caught for being
- 14:49Speaker 5: there because he wasn't supposed to be there, and he's like,
- 14:52Speaker 5: I'm not Michael Dorton, leave me alone, and every time
- 14:56Speaker 5: she'd be like, no, I know it's you, Michael, Stop,
- 14:58Speaker 5: you know, give me, give me a hug out with it,
- 15:02Speaker 5: And he had to.
- 15:02Speaker 2: If Halle Barry confused me with Michael dort I would
- 15:05Speaker 2: have been like, yes, I am Michael Doron.
- 15:13Speaker 5: Yes, I mean absolutely, yeah, yeah, so yes, So poor
- 15:20Speaker 5: Dwayne had to keep telling Haley Berry no the entire night,
- 15:25Speaker 5: I'm not Michael.
- 15:26Speaker 4: Dort So, I mean that is a funny story though,
- 15:30Speaker 4: that is. Yeah.
- 15:32Speaker 2: Yeah, I love the picture you had of Michael dort
- 15:34Speaker 2: He's like twenty six years old. He's wearing the white
- 15:39Speaker 2: shirt with a little bit of chest hair showed He's
- 15:42Speaker 2: he's given me, He's given me those I want you eyes.
- 15:49Speaker 5: I wanted to find an im Yeah, I wanted to
- 15:52Speaker 5: try to find images of both Dwayne McDuffie and Michael
- 15:55Speaker 5: Doran around that same age time.
- 15:57Speaker 4: Right, Okay, so you can kind of see.
- 15:59Speaker 1: But the photo I found it was a little bit older.
- 16:03Speaker 2: I mean, well I think this Michael Dord photo you
- 16:05Speaker 2: found was like when he would wharf was at the Academy.
- 16:08Speaker 1: Right right. Yeah, they're all very good.
- 16:13Speaker 4: Look you know, yeah they similar.
- 16:16Speaker 1: Like oval face, but that's about it.
- 16:20Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, I mean, I they're both black, they
- 16:25Speaker 2: both Maybe it's the one, doesn't you know, Maybe it's
- 16:30Speaker 2: I think it might be the eyes.
- 16:32Speaker 7: Maybe what Dwayne McDuffie was dressed as a klingon at
- 16:36Speaker 7: this party there.
- 16:37Speaker 2: Well, okay, then you can understand his confusion. I still
- 16:46Speaker 2: don't think it's as bad as when, uh, when Mariah
- 16:49Speaker 2: Carey was told that the King of Jordan had died
- 16:52Speaker 2: and she immediately took to the microphones at basketball has
- 16:56Speaker 2: lost a great legend today.
- 16:58Speaker 4: Oh god, true story. Oh goodness. Yeah, man, do we
- 17:07Speaker 4: have any paramount?
- 17:10Speaker 3: We do not.
- 17:10Speaker 1: I did not look, I'm you know, so.
- 17:13Speaker 2: We can just assume it's just a giant cluster f
- 17:16Speaker 2: and always sky Dance may or may not be buying them. Yeah,
- 17:21Speaker 2: did we end up putting our bid in? Do we
- 17:23Speaker 2: get some some coffee?
- 17:24Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 17:24Speaker 1: We're waiting for the loss to clear it through and then.
- 17:27Speaker 2: Okay, well clear, you guys can go to co fight
- 17:31Speaker 2: ko dash f I dot com forward slash uh track cast.
- 17:35Speaker 4: That's an actual thing.
- 17:36Speaker 2: By the way, if you want to support the show
- 17:38Speaker 2: and if you want to help us buy a paramount,
- 17:41Speaker 2: you know we can throw and we can.
- 17:44Speaker 7: Ourrent bit is three dollars, a Caesar salad, bag of Swizzlers,
- 17:48Speaker 7: and two bus classes.
- 17:50Speaker 5: I was gonna add I was gonna add in a
- 17:52Speaker 5: ham sandwich took.
- 17:54Speaker 6: Yeah, there you go.
- 17:56Speaker 2: Hey, maybe maybe Duval can put in a cheese a
- 17:58Speaker 2: chopped cheese sandwich.
- 18:00Speaker 5: Oh that'd be good. Yeah, great, there, all right, So,
- 18:05Speaker 5: uh should we get to our main topic?
- 18:07Speaker 4: Absolutely fun?
- 18:09Speaker 8: Will now comment?
- 18:15Speaker 5: All right, So we're making our way through the Tos films,
- 18:19Speaker 5: and so we've arrived at the Wrath of con second one.
- 18:23Speaker 1: That's why Dan's here. It's a good one.
- 18:29Speaker 5: And yeah, would you guys think you like it?
- 18:35Speaker 7: I want to rename this movie. I want to rename
- 18:41Speaker 7: it Star Trek the Motion Picture.
- 18:44Speaker 4: There you go, because this is what Star Trek should
- 18:49Speaker 4: have been.
- 18:50Speaker 3: This is what Star Trek the Motion Picture should have been.
- 18:53Speaker 7: Excuse me, there is actually a lot of similarities between
- 18:57Speaker 7: this movie and Star Trek the motion picture, except they
- 19:02Speaker 7: just did it right this time. There's a bit of
- 19:05Speaker 7: a time there's a bit of a time jump in
- 19:07Speaker 7: both movies. There is a catching up with the characters. Uh,
- 19:13Speaker 7: you know, who's where, who's doing what? Not, everybody is together,
- 19:18Speaker 7: there's a there's a change in uniforms from what we've
- 19:22Speaker 7: seen in the original series. Yes, the Enterprise is under
- 19:28Speaker 7: the command of of someone else.
- 19:33Speaker 3: Now.
- 19:34Speaker 7: Admiral Kirk spends a significant amount of screen time wishing
- 19:37Speaker 7: he was still Captain of the Enterprise, pondering his his
- 19:43Speaker 7: his his getting older, and the crew of the Enterprise
- 19:50Speaker 7: is not as experienced. So there's all the similarities from
- 19:55Speaker 7: the previous movie, except around all that. We have a
- 20:00Speaker 7: better story. Not a perfect story, but we have a
- 20:03Speaker 7: better story.
- 20:04Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 20:04Speaker 3: So that's my that's my quick take, yep on it.
- 20:09Speaker 5: Well, this is very well received on Rotten Tomatoes. It
- 20:13Speaker 5: had an eighty six percent from critics and an ninety
- 20:16Speaker 5: from viewers, So.
- 20:18Speaker 1: People like this a lot.
- 20:20Speaker 5: Yeah, So do you do you guys want to go
- 20:24Speaker 5: into the story? Talk a little bit about what happens
- 20:27Speaker 5: in this movie.
- 20:28Speaker 4: Yeah, let's do a synopsis we can do.
- 20:30Speaker 1: Yeah, do you want to go through that. So what happens, Dan,
- 20:35Speaker 1: Let's let's have.
- 20:38Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, yeah, you do it. You have the nice
- 20:40Speaker 4: concise perfectly.
- 20:41Speaker 1: In a while, people want to hear you grab your grab.
- 20:44Speaker 3: Your not spot. All right.
- 20:46Speaker 7: So fifteen years ago, there was an episode of TOS
- 20:51Speaker 7: called Space Seed where the Enterprise encountered genetically modified superhumans
- 20:57Speaker 7: from the late twentieth century. That episode, that episode ends
- 21:01Speaker 7: with them being deposited on SETI Alpha five, a planet
- 21:05Speaker 7: for them to have as their.
- 21:07Speaker 3: Own and tame and tame that planet.
- 21:10Speaker 8: Uh.
- 21:11Speaker 7: Fast forward fifteen years later, Spock is captained the Enterprise.
- 21:14Speaker 7: He has a crew of of cadets.
- 21:17Speaker 3: Uh.
- 21:17Speaker 7: Well, it's a little it's a little muddy whether he
- 21:21Speaker 7: has a crew of cadets or not.
- 21:22Speaker 3: We're gonna tell Yeah. Well, well there's some inconsistencies there,
- 21:28Speaker 3: so we'll get to that. Kirk is now an admiral.
- 21:33Speaker 7: Uh, he's inspecting uh the Enterprise when there's a distress call,
- 21:38Speaker 7: and like every Star Trek movie, they're the only ship
- 21:40Speaker 7: of range.
- 21:40Speaker 2: So as the quadrant, he said, well, the word quadri
- 21:47Speaker 2: is quadrant.
- 21:49Speaker 7: The word quadrant was used fast and loose in the
- 21:51Speaker 7: in the TOS era.
- 21:53Speaker 3: In the TOS movies and and the early TG Yeah.
- 21:57Speaker 4: But yeah.
- 21:58Speaker 7: Anyway, so the the USS Reliant where Chekhov serves is
- 22:06Speaker 7: looking for a lifeless planet so some scientists can test
- 22:09Speaker 7: the Genesis device. The Genesis device is the device that
- 22:12Speaker 7: will create life from lifelessness. So a barren planet will
- 22:16Speaker 7: be will be transformed through the Genesis device into an
- 22:20Speaker 7: M class M class planet. So they're looking for a
- 22:23Speaker 7: planet devoid of life.
- 22:24Speaker 1: It also look the place on the Hedgehog.
- 22:26Speaker 3: Yes, yep, yep, it's the it's leading the sixteen bit revolution.
- 22:32Speaker 1: Right right, Sega does what intend don't?
- 22:39Speaker 3: Oh?
- 22:39Speaker 1: No, Dan, Dan froze? No, oh no, okay.
- 22:45Speaker 4: Alright, do you want to do? You want to continue
- 22:46Speaker 4: off where he left off?
- 22:48Speaker 3: Sure?
- 22:49Speaker 1: Oh no, he's back. He's back, hear me, Yes, I'm back.
- 22:53Speaker 3: I'm back baby.
- 22:55Speaker 1: The Genesis device.
- 22:57Speaker 3: Okay, So Genesis device.
- 22:59Speaker 7: Yeah, so they they they're checking out this planet to
- 23:02Speaker 7: make sure it's lifeless. They discovered life on the planet,
- 23:07Speaker 7: and that life is con and his crew. The planet
- 23:15Speaker 7: that they were left on became next to inhospitable not
- 23:20Speaker 7: long after they were left there. Uh, Kirk never went
- 23:22Speaker 7: back to check on them, So they've been living a
- 23:25Speaker 7: miserable existence for a decade. They're pretty pissed off. They
- 23:31Speaker 7: captured Checkof and his captain, they take over the Reliance,
- 23:35Speaker 7: and now they are on a mission to seek vengeance
- 23:38Speaker 7: against Admiral Kirk.
- 23:40Speaker 1: Right because he asks.
- 23:43Speaker 7: Me yes and and Larity ensues that's right. Want to
- 23:49Speaker 7: recap the whole movie?
- 23:54Speaker 4: I was gonna say, I could take over here if
- 23:55Speaker 4: you want to it. Okay?
- 23:58Speaker 2: Uh so, so I was a little confused about this part.
- 24:02Speaker 2: Did about the timeline, so maybe you guys can help
- 24:06Speaker 2: me out. Kahn went to the Regular Space Station first
- 24:11Speaker 2: and then went after Captain Kirk? Or did he go
- 24:15Speaker 2: after Captain Kirk, disabled Captain Kirk, then go to Regular
- 24:18Speaker 2: Space Station and then go hide around the planet Regular one?
- 24:24Speaker 2: I was confused about that. When did he kill all
- 24:26Speaker 2: the people from the Regular Space Station before he saw
- 24:30Speaker 2: Kirker after he saw Kirk?
- 24:33Speaker 5: So he saw Kirk at first and thought he had
- 24:39Speaker 5: like disabled the ship or killed him something like.
- 24:42Speaker 1: That, and.
- 24:45Speaker 5: Right, okay, no, no, no, So so they had check
- 24:48Speaker 5: Off and the other captain and he was going to
- 24:51Speaker 5: kill Kirk because Cohn was like, you know, nineteen sixties
- 24:55Speaker 5: villain and like not waiting for him to actually die.
- 24:58Speaker 5: He's like, right, I've left you my horrible plan, and
- 25:01Speaker 5: now you're dead. And then he took off right confident
- 25:06Speaker 5: that that the other captain and check Off would kill Kirk.
- 25:10Speaker 5: But through the power of friendship, the captain of the
- 25:13Speaker 5: other captain turned the phaser on himself because he couldn't
- 25:17Speaker 5: kill Kirk.
- 25:19Speaker 1: And then uh so.
- 25:20Speaker 2: Con got beamed aboard the Reliant. Correct, Okay, he used
- 25:27Speaker 2: he used to. He used the earworms to tell them, Hey,
- 25:30Speaker 2: tell them to beat us aboard the Reliant. We're all
- 25:33Speaker 2: going to be beating aboard the Reliant, right, okay? Uh
- 25:36Speaker 2: And then he takes over the Reliant. What does he
- 25:39Speaker 2: do after that? Does he go to the regular space
- 25:41Speaker 2: station or does he go confront Kirk first?
- 25:44Speaker 1: He confronts Kirk first.
- 25:45Speaker 2: He confronts Kirk first, disables a ship, and then goes
- 25:49Speaker 2: to the regular space station.
- 25:50Speaker 1: Yes, but he leaves check Off and the other captain there.
- 25:54Speaker 4: At the regular space station. And he does it on
- 25:57Speaker 4: purpose because he wants to kill Kirk. Okay.
- 25:59Speaker 2: So then so after that they go into the the
- 26:03Speaker 2: regular Moon in the underneath the regular Moon. That's where
- 26:08Speaker 2: they've done Phase two of the Genesis device.
- 26:10Speaker 3: UH.
- 26:10Speaker 2: There's a cute exchange where Uh kirk is talking to
- 26:14Speaker 2: Spock over the intercom and.
- 26:17Speaker 4: Their their they're coded. It's a coded message.
- 26:19Speaker 2: So he says it's gonna take you know, two days
- 26:22Speaker 2: to do this and six days do this, when in reality,
- 26:25Speaker 2: when Spock is saying days, he really means hours, but
- 26:28Speaker 2: Con thinks he means day, so Con thinks he's got
- 26:30Speaker 2: enough time to you know, take a trip around whatever.
- 26:34Speaker 2: It turns out the Enterprise is ready. They go into
- 26:36Speaker 2: the the Mutawa Nebula UH. They have a submarine space battle.
- 26:42Speaker 2: Kirk Uh is laughing at con superior intellect ends up
- 26:48Speaker 2: defeating Khan Khan in a lastics effort to UH destroy
- 26:52Speaker 2: kirk Uh starts to detonate the Genesis device.
- 26:56Speaker 4: UH.
- 26:56Speaker 2: The Enterprise cannot escape in time because it's got a
- 27:00Speaker 2: damaged warp corps, and that's when Spock famously goes down
- 27:04Speaker 2: to engineering UH, knocks out McCoy, does a mind meld
- 27:09Speaker 2: with him, and then goes into the warp courp chamber
- 27:12Speaker 2: UH that's UH, and saves the saves the day.
- 27:16Speaker 4: He ends up. He ends up fixing the ship just
- 27:21Speaker 4: in the nick of time, but he is.
- 27:22Speaker 2: Highly radio irradiated, and we have the Kirk Spock death scene.
- 27:28Speaker 4: Pull up what a des say again? Pull that up?
- 27:30Speaker 2: Yes, Desires does well. He did say they made you
- 27:34Speaker 2: highly suggestive. So I guess if your mind is powerful enough,
- 27:37Speaker 2: you could fight this suggestion. I don't know if anybody
- 27:39Speaker 2: ever said that check off with a highly had a.
- 27:44Speaker 4: Strong mind. But yeah, I mean, I guess you're right.
- 27:47Speaker 4: Friendship one, you know, after all these years, you know, I.
- 27:50Speaker 1: Mean, yeah, it was the power of friendship.
- 27:53Speaker 4: That the power of friendship.
- 27:55Speaker 2: So at the so, yeah, there's a touching scene at
- 27:58Speaker 2: the you know, the end of the movie Fame Missley.
- 28:00Speaker 2: Spoiler alert if you haven't seen Star Trek two The
- 28:02Speaker 2: Wrath con. Uh, there's a scene at the end where Spock,
- 28:06Speaker 2: you know, Kirk comes to the rescue.
- 28:08Speaker 4: He tries to get Spock. Uh.
- 28:10Speaker 2: McCoy and and Scotty and an unnamed crewman uh stopped
- 28:15Speaker 2: Birk from going into the chamber. And uh, there's a
- 28:20Speaker 2: touching scene where you know, Spock and Kirk are separated
- 28:23Speaker 2: by glass and they have an exchange the needs of
- 28:26Speaker 2: the many and live along and prosper and and he
- 28:30Speaker 2: dies and they have I don't care how old you are.
- 28:32Speaker 2: I don't care how how tough you are. If you
- 28:35Speaker 2: don't shed a tear at that funeral scene, you ain't
- 28:39Speaker 2: got a heart.
- 28:40Speaker 4: Because I've seen that movie.
- 28:41Speaker 2: Literally, I'd say this is this was probably in the
- 28:44Speaker 2: neighborhood of the three dozen time that I've seen that movie,
- 28:49Speaker 2: and I had a I had a tear running down
- 28:52Speaker 2: my cheek when Scotty was playing bagpipes.
- 28:55Speaker 4: Yeah, and that's the end.
- 28:57Speaker 5: I was cheering and I was going kill him a
- 29:00Speaker 5: Kirk killing again, Well, you know, kill yeah.
- 29:06Speaker 2: I Now that we've done the synopsis I have, I
- 29:09Speaker 2: want to go circle back to the beginning of the
- 29:10Speaker 2: movie because I've.
- 29:12Speaker 4: Got a knit that I did not look up on IMDb.
- 29:14Speaker 4: This is just something I looked at.
- 29:15Speaker 2: Okay, okay, and it starts with a problem with Kirk
- 29:21Speaker 2: not going back to check on him.
- 29:22Speaker 4: But okay, So City Alpha is a system. City Alpha
- 29:27Speaker 4: is the Sun.
- 29:28Speaker 2: City Alpha five is the one two three four fifth
- 29:32Speaker 2: planet of that system. So the way we number planets
- 29:35Speaker 2: is the closest is number one furthest away, you know,
- 29:38Speaker 2: one two three for five furthest away. Right, So Kirk
- 29:43Speaker 2: in the original series drops him off at City alf
- 29:45Speaker 2: of five, right, okay, So Cyliti Alpha so number one,
- 29:50Speaker 2: he didn't go back and check on him. Starfleet didn't
- 29:52Speaker 2: send a single ship in fifteen twenty years to go
- 29:57Speaker 2: check on them. That's irresponsible of Kirk.
- 30:00Speaker 3: So here here, here's the thing.
- 30:03Speaker 7: Starfleet while things, it's still the government, right okay.
- 30:10Speaker 3: And if you were going to assume, well, it's the governments,
- 30:14Speaker 3: they know what they're doing. They got their ship together.
- 30:17Speaker 3: Come on, I don't care what some trade is the government.
- 30:21Speaker 2: That's that's but that's yes, that's solely on Starfleet, that's
- 30:24Speaker 2: on Courcy.
- 30:25Speaker 5: Anyway, I was gonna, I was gonna say, uh, Starfleet
- 30:28Speaker 5: has a long proud tradition of really bad dads, just like.
- 30:32Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, and they've got a long proud tradition of like,
- 30:35Speaker 2: you know, doing something major with a planet and a
- 30:38Speaker 2: people and never going back to see them again.
- 30:41Speaker 4: So they deposit them on City Alpha five.
- 30:44Speaker 3: Right.
- 30:45Speaker 2: M Con says that City Alpha six exploded, okay, and
- 30:54Speaker 2: a altered City Alpha five whatever. Okay, So City Alfa six,
- 30:58Speaker 2: I'm I've got I've actually got like a little thing
- 31:02Speaker 2: with the planets one two three this okay, So City
- 31:05Speaker 2: Alfa six explodes, right, Okay, So now one, two, three, four, five,
- 31:11Speaker 2: see Alpha five is still.
- 31:12Speaker 4: The fifth planet from the Sun.
- 31:14Speaker 2: So if City Alfae six explodes, what is now the
- 31:18Speaker 2: sixth planet from the Sun, City Alpha seven. So ray, uh,
- 31:25Speaker 2: the Reliant wants to go specifically to City Alpha six. Correct,
- 31:30Speaker 2: They wouldn't accidentally go to City Alpha five. They wouldn't
- 31:33Speaker 2: go to the fifth planet from the Sun. They'd go
- 31:36Speaker 2: to the sixth planet from the Sun, which is actually
- 31:38Speaker 2: twenty years ago, the seventh planet from the Sun. They
- 31:41Speaker 2: never should have seen con in the first place.
- 31:44Speaker 1: M hmm, there you go, stupid.
- 31:52Speaker 5: I'm not wrong, No, no, no, no, that right, But you're
- 31:55Speaker 5: gonna ruin the movie if you ever think it.
- 31:58Speaker 2: Fine, fine, you want to hear my other you want
- 32:01Speaker 2: to hear my other net it has to do with
- 32:03Speaker 2: the movie, and and I can tie in Next Generation
- 32:07Speaker 2: with this too.
- 32:08Speaker 4: So at the beginning of the movie, and it sort
- 32:10Speaker 4: of establishes Kirks like.
- 32:11Speaker 2: You know, I don't know, fear of incompetent or fear
- 32:16Speaker 2: of inexperienced pilots, but uh, Spock is like, uh, savag,
- 32:21Speaker 2: have you ever pilot a ship out of space?
- 32:22Speaker 4: Doc?
- 32:23Speaker 2: And She's like, Nope, never done. That before, and he's like,
- 32:27Speaker 2: take you know, take the con he So she goes
- 32:31Speaker 2: and sits in the captain's chair and says, ahead of
- 32:36Speaker 2: one quarter in pulse power until you clear the space.
- 32:38Speaker 4: Doc.
- 32:39Speaker 2: I'm like, she didn't pilot the ship out of nowhere.
- 32:42Speaker 2: She didn't pilot crap. And it got me to thinking
- 32:46Speaker 2: about the very first episode of the Next Generation, when
- 32:49Speaker 2: Riker meets Picard for the first time.
- 32:51Speaker 4: The cars like come back to Riker will perform a
- 32:54Speaker 4: manual docking.
- 32:55Speaker 2: And so he goes onto the battle bridge and sits
- 32:58Speaker 2: in the captain's chair.
- 33:00Speaker 4: He doesn't do any piloting. He just tells the helm.
- 33:05Speaker 7: I think the term pilot is different in the Navy
- 33:09Speaker 7: than it is from the Air Force. That's why if
- 33:11Speaker 7: you call, if you call, all right, remember the scene
- 33:14Speaker 7: in Top Gun where he's in the bar and she
- 33:17Speaker 7: says you're a pilot, and he says, I'm a naval aviator.
- 33:20Speaker 7: Because people who fly aircraft in the Navy are called aviators.
- 33:25Speaker 3: People who have controlled movements of ships in the sea
- 33:30Speaker 3: are pilots.
- 33:32Speaker 7: Okay, so he's not necessarily steering the ship, but he's
- 33:36Speaker 7: controlling its movements.
- 33:38Speaker 4: So he is So what Okay, let me ask you this.
- 33:40Speaker 2: Were you impressed by savage skill and giving orders to
- 33:44Speaker 2: the actual person steering the ship? I wasn't helm take
- 33:49Speaker 2: us out?
- 33:50Speaker 4: Oh wow, you piloted this ship for the first time.
- 33:53Speaker 1: I I lost and threw popcorn like Minecraft.
- 34:00Speaker 2: Now with Riker, he was giving like actual coordinates and
- 34:03Speaker 2: degrees and stuff. He's like, you know, yeah, maybe the
- 34:05Speaker 2: three degrees and this and that and the other thing.
- 34:07Speaker 1: But like that.
- 34:09Speaker 2: What would have impressed me is if you had gotten
- 34:12Speaker 2: if you had taken the I don't know, taken the
- 34:14Speaker 2: con mm hmm. But also they say so and so
- 34:20Speaker 2: you've got the con and they sit in the captain's chair.
- 34:22Speaker 2: But if you take the con, you sit in the
- 34:25Speaker 2: pilot's seat.
- 34:27Speaker 4: I don't know. Navy and Air.
- 34:28Speaker 3: Force they messed things up.
- 34:30Speaker 7: So along the same along the same lines, I said,
- 34:34Speaker 7: there's some question as to what that ship is crewed by.
- 34:38Speaker 3: What is what is savax? What is savax rank?
- 34:42Speaker 4: In this movie, she looks like a lieutenant.
- 34:45Speaker 7: Okay, they call a lieutenant, but they also refer to
- 34:49Speaker 7: them being cadets. So are they cadets or are they commissioned?
- 34:55Speaker 1: Is she like a lieutenant junior grade?
- 34:57Speaker 3: I think, but then that's not a cadet, right, think.
- 35:01Speaker 2: That she is in the command program and so she's
- 35:06Speaker 2: being trained in the command program and the cadets are
- 35:10Speaker 2: being trained to do regular jobs. So I think they
- 35:13Speaker 2: taken no, it doesn't make her a cadet. So I
- 35:17Speaker 2: think it's like, you know, they yeah, you no, you're
- 35:23Speaker 2: absolutely right. I think they just took lower ranking command
- 35:28Speaker 2: people in the command section and put them in sort
- 35:32Speaker 2: of in charge of cadets, and then had a senior
- 35:36Speaker 2: officer oversea the whole thing.
- 35:38Speaker 5: I I got the vibe, except that in later law
- 35:47Speaker 5: we're told definitively that the Kobeyashi maru is done at
- 35:51Speaker 5: the academy, right, and that it's academy cadets that goes.
- 35:56Speaker 3: Whole academy cadets go through that test.
- 35:58Speaker 2: Not all academy cadets, because Spot said he didn't go
- 36:01Speaker 2: through it. But maybe that's because they established in in
- 36:04Speaker 2: Star Trek uh nine Star Trek that he's the one
- 36:07Speaker 2: that came up with the Kobyashi maru.
- 36:08Speaker 4: So who knows.
- 36:10Speaker 2: And another thing I was thinking about, if they had
- 36:12Speaker 2: a Kobyashi maru in say lower Decks time frame or
- 36:16Speaker 2: Picard time frame. What would that look like, because it
- 36:21Speaker 2: would when became.
- 36:24Speaker 4: Born cubes and c are jeb Hitar.
- 36:29Speaker 7: Actually you know what, you know what it would be?
- 36:31Speaker 7: It would it would be the scene in the intro
- 36:34Speaker 7: to Lower Decks.
- 36:36Speaker 5: Oh, the giants crystalline entity Doomsday like era.
- 36:42Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I I I imagine that if if they
- 36:45Speaker 2: had a Kobyashi Maru, say in tng era, like when
- 36:48Speaker 2: Wesley went to the Academy.
- 36:49Speaker 4: I would imagine it would be Romulan war birds yeah, oh.
- 36:53Speaker 5: Probably yeah yeah, or or the naussigns.
- 36:59Speaker 2: Or the NASA because at that time frame it probably
- 37:02Speaker 2: wouldn't be woke enough to fight Klingon's.
- 37:05Speaker 1: That's right, you've been played, dom Jot.
- 37:07Speaker 4: Yeah, you have been played dom Jot.
- 37:10Speaker 5: Yes, that's how they start everyone out there and their communications.
- 37:15Speaker 4: Right, dom Jot human.
- 37:19Speaker 3: I want to I want to get that on it.
- 37:23Speaker 1: Oh no, there he goes.
- 37:27Speaker 3: Got him.
- 37:28Speaker 4: He got stabbed through the back, right through the heart.
- 37:30Speaker 3: Oh no, I'm back.
- 37:33Speaker 1: Okay, okay, Yes, we are you, we are you okay.
- 37:38Speaker 7: Yeah, So I'm gonna get a feature this human play. Yeah,
- 37:41Speaker 7: people recognize it. Human played Jot.
- 37:45Speaker 4: I like it. I like it.
- 37:47Speaker 5: Everyone would know what that means do it's perfect. So
- 37:52Speaker 5: I I do have some trivia from IMDb that I
- 37:55Speaker 5: thought it was fun.
- 37:56Speaker 1: One of them was.
- 37:57Speaker 5: The fact that they started working on the script and
- 38:01Speaker 5: they decided to use con They never went to Robart
- 38:05Speaker 5: Ricardo Maltabon to see if he was even interested in
- 38:08Speaker 5: it until way later in the process the script and
- 38:13Speaker 5: then they're like, hey, hey, do you do you want
- 38:14Speaker 5: to come back?
- 38:16Speaker 2: I think it was hard betted. That was like, uh,
- 38:18Speaker 2: has anybody talked to about about this? Because I think
- 38:20Speaker 2: it's a fantasy island.
- 38:22Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, they they had to do things around to
- 38:25Speaker 1: get in to get him in there.
- 38:27Speaker 7: I'm attle disappointed that they didn't find a role for
- 38:30Speaker 7: the little uh migic.
- 38:31Speaker 3: Guy who was land.
- 38:38Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 38:38Speaker 2: I read I was watching the DVD commentary last night
- 38:41Speaker 2: or the special features. They said something like they played
- 38:43Speaker 2: a joke on Ricardo montyband where they had like, uh,
- 38:47Speaker 2: I think it was maybe one of those director's chairs
- 38:50Speaker 2: or whatever, and they had like a little figurine of
- 38:53Speaker 2: that character like glued to the chair.
- 38:58Speaker 1: Oh oh, that's funny. Uh. The other thing I read.
- 39:02Speaker 7: Is that that the screak the script was leaked ah
- 39:08Speaker 7: before they went to production, and it was that that
- 39:12Speaker 7: Spock was going to die, and so, yeah, so they
- 39:17Speaker 7: changed the script.
- 39:17Speaker 3: It's actually a genius if this is true.
- 39:20Speaker 7: They edit that training scene at the beginning mm hmm,
- 39:25Speaker 7: and Spock dies.
- 39:28Speaker 3: We'll go into the movies. You know.
- 39:30Speaker 7: I heard Spock dies. And then in the first five
- 39:32Speaker 7: minutes they watched Spock die and they go, oh, all right, well, okay,
- 39:37Speaker 7: that's where that came from.
- 39:38Speaker 4: That would be very smart.
- 39:41Speaker 3: An hour and a half later, you know, he dies
- 39:43Speaker 3: for real, see.
- 39:44Speaker 5: And I thought, oh, wow, that's really good foreshadowing, because
- 39:47Speaker 5: the first thing Kirk tells him is like, aren't you
- 39:49Speaker 5: supposed to be dead?
- 39:52Speaker 3: Well, that's the joke. You know, you're supposed to be
- 39:55Speaker 3: It's out in the news that you're dying. We aren't
- 39:57Speaker 3: you supposed to be dead?
- 39:58Speaker 1: Yeah? Yeah, So it was.
- 40:00Speaker 3: A clever way to deal with the script leak. Yeah.
- 40:05Speaker 5: And then the other bit of trivia that I thought
- 40:07Speaker 5: was kind of fun was apparently Ricardo Montabon was so
- 40:11Speaker 5: so stuck from Fantasy Island on playing mister Rurke that
- 40:15Speaker 5: he needed to go to Paramount and watch the Spaceat
- 40:19Speaker 5: episode multiple times to remember how to get back into
- 40:22Speaker 5: the conmode.
- 40:24Speaker 2: Yeah, he said on the commentary, he said he had
- 40:28Speaker 2: him sent him a tape, which back in nineteen eighty one,
- 40:32Speaker 2: you know, not it's not like you send me a screener.
- 40:36Speaker 4: You can't. It's not that easy.
- 40:38Speaker 1: So yeah, they had, and that probably would have been
- 40:39Speaker 1: beta back then, right.
- 40:42Speaker 4: Right, that he had to watch about five times.
- 40:46Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 40:47Speaker 7: So another fun fact about him, there was a rumor
- 40:51Speaker 7: for years that he wore a prosthetic chest. Yes for
- 40:55Speaker 7: those scenes that open shirt and no, that dude's just jacked.
- 41:00Speaker 2: Yeah, yep, yep, good on him too.
- 41:04Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 41:06Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 41:07Speaker 5: You know a lot of people say this is their
- 41:08Speaker 5: favorite of the t O S films.
- 41:13Speaker 1: I don't know about mine, but.
- 41:16Speaker 2: You know I my three favorite, or this one the
- 41:22Speaker 2: Voyage Home and Undiscovered Country. Yeah, that says they chose
- 41:27Speaker 2: mantaband to bring bring in the ladies oil that chest.
- 41:32Speaker 6: Yeah yeah, I.
- 41:37Speaker 2: I yeah, I guess I'm gonna have to I'm gonna
- 41:40Speaker 2: have to shave my chest.
- 41:41Speaker 4: And uh, I mean you know I can't. I'm I'm
- 41:46Speaker 4: already jacked.
- 41:47Speaker 2: I'm already jacked, you know, of course, since you guys
- 41:50Speaker 2: can only see me from about the Yeah, navel up,
- 41:54Speaker 2: I'm just gonna tell you all of you that I'm
- 41:56Speaker 2: just jacked and ripped. Yes, but yeah, next time, I'll
- 41:59Speaker 2: I'll come in with like a you know, a shaven
- 42:02Speaker 2: chest right here, and just some kind of T shirt
- 42:06Speaker 2: that I can pull down I would like maybe get. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 42:15Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 42:16Speaker 4: We're gonna lose a lot of lists.
- 42:18Speaker 1: That's right, that's right, Welcome to Jim caston.
- 42:22Speaker 4: Right, Scott came in and just take the show.
- 42:26Speaker 1: Oh no, boy, what else? Uh with the Uh.
- 42:34Speaker 4: Yeah, I've got a couple of a couple. Yeah.
- 42:38Speaker 2: Most of the actors playing CON's h henchmen were Chippendale
- 42:44Speaker 2: dancers at the time.
- 42:45Speaker 4: Oh, which that tracks.
- 42:47Speaker 2: They're all beautiful and they're all kind of they're all,
- 42:49Speaker 2: you know whatever, and uh, you know the the nineteen
- 42:57Speaker 2: eighty two the scene where doctor Marcus is showing off
- 43:04Speaker 2: the Genesis Device, which she's on TV. You know, she
- 43:06Speaker 2: they're watching a program about about the Genesis Device. That
- 43:12Speaker 2: that sequence where it shows the Genesis Device doing its
- 43:17Speaker 2: thing and recreating a planet that was cg that was
- 43:22Speaker 2: entirely CGI, and it was the first time that CGI
- 43:26Speaker 2: had been used in a major motion.
- 43:29Speaker 1: I do remember reading that.
- 43:30Speaker 2: Yeah, so that was. That was a huge thing that that.
- 43:34Speaker 2: I mean, it's it's a blinking you miss it sequence,
- 43:37Speaker 2: but that little sequence of the demonstration of the Genesis
- 43:41Speaker 2: device was computer generated and it was a big deal.
- 43:45Speaker 4: You got to think this.
- 43:45Speaker 2: Yeah, this movie was made principal photography was done in
- 43:50Speaker 2: January of nineteen eighty two. Yeah, and so they made
- 43:55Speaker 2: it very quickly. And this is back in the early eighties,
- 43:59Speaker 2: you know. So yeah, I thought it was very impressive
- 44:03Speaker 2: for you know what it was. I thought the animation
- 44:05Speaker 2: on that was really really good. You know, it wasn't
- 44:08Speaker 2: it wasn't PIXELI it wasn't like you know, Gridliny, it was.
- 44:12Speaker 4: It was fantastic.
- 44:14Speaker 2: And another thing about you know, the budget. There's a
- 44:20Speaker 2: there's a famous quote from I think it was Harve
- 44:22Speaker 2: Bennett or one of the producers talking to Harve Bennett.
- 44:24Speaker 4: Har Benett was one of the producers.
- 44:27Speaker 2: Yeah, where he's talking to the showrunners or the people
- 44:32Speaker 2: at NBC or Paramount or whatever and talking about the
- 44:36Speaker 2: movie and this is what we're gonna do, and this
- 44:37Speaker 2: is what we're gonna do.
- 44:38Speaker 4: And they stop him and they say.
- 44:41Speaker 2: Can you make the film for under forty five fen
- 44:44Speaker 2: dollars million dollars and they're like, yes, we think we can.
- 44:49Speaker 2: And so they actually came in under budget. It was
- 44:53Speaker 2: less than the budget of the motion picture, so they
- 44:55Speaker 2: didn't have as much to work with. It was much
- 44:57Speaker 2: more action packed. Yeah, so they did a good Nick
- 45:00Speaker 2: Meyer was the director, he would go on, Nick Meyer.
- 45:08Speaker 1: Did, he was the writer, let me look me see, Oh, yeah,
- 45:18Speaker 1: you're right.
- 45:18Speaker 5: Directed by okay, Oh it was springplay by Jack so yeah.
- 45:26Speaker 2: I had never really heard of him. But it was
- 45:29Speaker 2: produced by Yeah, directed by Nick Meyer, produced by Harve Bennett.
- 45:34Speaker 2: Now nick Meyer, I don't remember what other track movies
- 45:38Speaker 2: he directed, but he directed, uh, the the Undiscovered Country,
- 45:42Speaker 2: which is if you you know, if you put a
- 45:47Speaker 2: gun to my head. I think Undiscovered Country is my favorite.
- 45:50Speaker 1: Yeah, honestly.
- 45:52Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 45:54Speaker 2: Also, they brought in James Horner for the score, and
- 45:59Speaker 2: back then James Owner wasn't quite as known.
- 46:03Speaker 4: Yeah right, uh, and.
- 46:06Speaker 2: I thought that, you know, they brought in that that
- 46:09Speaker 2: that that soundtrack became kind of known as the original
- 46:13Speaker 2: series movie soundtrack. Yeah, we're gonna dock doc your pay
- 46:23Speaker 2: figure out how many minutes he was.
- 46:24Speaker 1: Gone, and then yeah, ye divide it.
- 46:27Speaker 4: So, yeah, we were just we were just talking about
- 46:30Speaker 4: the budget and oh, you know.
- 46:31Speaker 1: One thing we didn't bring up. We were introduced to
- 46:33Speaker 1: uh Kirk's son, David.
- 46:36Speaker 4: We were we were introduced to kirk son Kirk.
- 46:41Speaker 2: William Shatner wasn't quite sure about the genesis of that relationship.
- 46:46Speaker 4: Yeah no, pun intended with Carol, don't shake your head
- 46:52Speaker 4: at me.
- 46:53Speaker 2: Uh so, he wasn't quite sure if they were if
- 46:56Speaker 2: they had been married or not or whatever. But we're
- 47:00Speaker 2: introduced to Kirk soon and in a deleted scene, we're
- 47:04Speaker 2: introduced to Scotty's nephew. Oh okay, so the the the
- 47:12Speaker 2: the cadet who died was was established in a deleted
- 47:17Speaker 2: scene and in the novelization as Scotty's nephew. That's why
- 47:21Speaker 2: he's so distraught about his death. And that's why that's
- 47:24Speaker 2: why Bone said I'm sorry Scotty because it was his
- 47:28Speaker 2: it was his nephew. He's he stayed at his post
- 47:32Speaker 2: when the treaties ran so so yeah, so.
- 47:39Speaker 7: Again this goes back to like the inconsistencies in the
- 47:44Speaker 7: in the show, he was not a cadet. He was
- 47:47Speaker 7: introduced as a midshipman, which is an enlisted rank in the.
- 47:54Speaker 9: Yeah, I think I think that's that's what makes I
- 48:01Speaker 9: think that's what makes it more powerful, is that here
- 48:04Speaker 9: was a kid.
- 48:05Speaker 7: Just to put him in, to put it in contemporary example,
- 48:13Speaker 7: this is a kid who enlisted in the Navy right
- 48:17Speaker 7: out of high school. Okay, so he's not twenty four
- 48:21Speaker 7: years old because he's a he's an academy graduate. This
- 48:24Speaker 7: is a seventeen or eighteen year old. Oh no, good
- 48:32Speaker 7: And when the cadets, the officer did that come through
- 48:37Speaker 7: or did I did? I?
- 48:38Speaker 1: No, no, keep going, keep going.
- 48:40Speaker 3: No. I was saying, this is.
- 48:41Speaker 7: A seventeen or eighteen year old kid who enlisted out
- 48:43Speaker 7: of high school, and and he's working in the engine
- 48:46Speaker 7: room and when shuld hit the fan, and the and
- 48:48Speaker 7: the officer, trainees, the cadets are freaking out, this kid
- 48:52Speaker 7: stayed at his post because that's what his duty said
- 48:55Speaker 7: he's supposed to do. I think if you once realized
- 48:58Speaker 7: that the scene is more powerful.
- 49:00Speaker 4: Yeah, you're absolutely right, one hundred percent right.
- 49:03Speaker 2: I'm gonna in my head, can and I'm gonna say
- 49:06Speaker 2: that the Enterprise was a training ship and that it
- 49:10Speaker 2: had a mix of cadets and enlisted, so you probably
- 49:15Speaker 2: had cadets. Hey, come on board the ship. You'll see
- 49:18Speaker 2: how starships operate. Hey, junior, junior officers and junior enlisted
- 49:25Speaker 2: you come on board the ship too. You know, it's
- 49:27Speaker 2: it's just a big training ship. We're not gonna go
- 49:29Speaker 2: out and save the universe.
- 49:30Speaker 4: We're gonna, you know, once go runs around Mars and
- 49:33Speaker 4: come back.
- 49:34Speaker 7: But yeah, so every military installation has commissioned and non
- 49:40Speaker 7: commissioned personnel. So right, you go to West Point, which
- 49:45Speaker 7: is the US military United States Army Military Academy.
- 49:50Speaker 3: There are enlisted people walking all.
- 49:52Speaker 7: Over the place because you know, the MPs on the
- 49:56Speaker 7: base are enlisted, and you know the people who run
- 49:59Speaker 7: the day to day operations of that base are a
- 50:02Speaker 7: mixture of enlisted and commissioned officers. So you know, every
- 50:07Speaker 7: star Fleet chip has enlisted people on it. For some reason,
- 50:10Speaker 7: we never see them very rare stances. But you know somebody,
- 50:20Speaker 7: you know, somebody does the work.
- 50:22Speaker 4: It's it's all Chief O'Brien. Yes, he's famously not.
- 50:27Speaker 2: The Gemindar called him a non com so non commissioned officer.
- 50:31Speaker 4: Even though in my head canon he's a cheap.
- 50:35Speaker 3: Whenever they say crewman, I kind of assume that talking
- 50:38Speaker 3: about it and.
- 50:38Speaker 2: Listed yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, I agree, Yeah, I got
- 50:45Speaker 2: a note here.
- 50:46Speaker 4: Uniforms.
- 50:47Speaker 2: Uh, they had a huge transition uh in this movie,
- 50:51Speaker 2: and they went to the famous red Tunic uniforms. These
- 50:56Speaker 2: uniforms are my favorite. I think they look they give it.
- 51:00Speaker 2: They give Star Trek for better or for worse. They
- 51:04Speaker 2: give Star Trek a more military feel. So this film
- 51:10Speaker 2: establishes Starfleet as maybe not a military organization, although that's
- 51:14Speaker 2: what Carol Marcus calls it, but maybe rooted in in
- 51:19Speaker 2: in military tradition, so which which makes sense.
- 51:24Speaker 4: You know.
- 51:24Speaker 2: Even even NASA, which is a non military entity, has
- 51:29Speaker 2: some military traditions surrounding it.
- 51:33Speaker 4: But these Tunics, I love these. I love these uniforms.
- 51:35Speaker 2: I love the ranks, I love the just the jack
- 51:39Speaker 2: I love the jacket how it can come off, the clips,
- 51:41Speaker 2: the class.
- 51:43Speaker 4: They also.
- 51:45Speaker 5: They also walk around in those like great pajamas. Would
- 51:47Speaker 5: you can totally see as the inspiration for the next
- 51:50Speaker 5: gen you know, sure?
- 51:51Speaker 2: Ye yeah, And I was looking at the engineering uniforms too.
- 51:55Speaker 2: You know, in the military, Uh, if you're if you're
- 51:58Speaker 2: a mechanic, uh, you're not wearing a regular duty uniform.
- 52:02Speaker 2: You're wearing these coveralls. Yeah, you know, you're wearing mission
- 52:06Speaker 2: specific gear. So I like the white I like the
- 52:10Speaker 2: white uniforms that have the little hole in the middle
- 52:12Speaker 2: for the little breathing tube and all that.
- 52:14Speaker 4: It all makes sense. I thought that was great, great design.
- 52:18Speaker 7: So what I what I love about the TS movies
- 52:21Speaker 7: is just looking at the background of the sets, looking
- 52:26Speaker 7: at walking through the hallways.
- 52:29Speaker 3: M hm, that's the that's the TG set, Oh very much.
- 52:32Speaker 4: So.
- 52:32Speaker 2: Yeah, even though TG wouldn't come out for another five years.
- 52:36Speaker 4: Yeah, but that was Star Trek Phase two stuff.
- 52:40Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, Star Trek Pase two and they just read
- 52:45Speaker 2: because they had built some of those sets and they
- 52:47Speaker 2: had designed some of those sets. But yeah, the corridors
- 52:50Speaker 2: are yeah, they're a carbon copy of Next Generation.
- 52:53Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 52:54Speaker 4: Yeah, and Next Generation took a lot from Star Trek
- 52:57Speaker 4: Phase two.
- 52:57Speaker 2: So if you don't know, Star Trek Phase two was
- 53:00Speaker 2: the failed uh relaunch of Star Trek. They were gonna
- 53:04Speaker 2: make another series called Star Trek.
- 53:07Speaker 7: Before so much as it was folded into and became
- 53:11Speaker 7: Star Trek the.
- 53:12Speaker 2: Motion picture, right, they decided we're not gonna do a
- 53:16Speaker 2: TV series because this laser sword movie did so well.
- 53:20Speaker 4: Star Wars, We're gonna make a.
- 53:23Speaker 3: Four did really right?
- 53:25Speaker 2: Laser Sword episode four? So yeah, what what else? There's
- 53:31Speaker 2: a there's a there's a ton, there's a crap ton.
- 53:35Speaker 1: Of Oh yeah, we're just scratching.
- 53:38Speaker 4: Uh. You know, we could spend another hour and a
- 53:41Speaker 4: half talking.
- 53:42Speaker 1: About So.
- 53:46Speaker 7: Savic was originally supposed to be half Vulcan, half romulent.
- 53:51Speaker 7: Correct in my head, cannon in my headcnon, she is,
- 53:56Speaker 7: and that.
- 53:57Speaker 3: Will for me.
- 53:58Speaker 7: That accounts for the fact that she's crying at Spock's funeral,
- 54:02Speaker 7: which is a very unvulcan like thing to do.
- 54:06Speaker 2: She also expressed frustration in the simulator. She says, damn, yeah,
- 54:11Speaker 2: that's not very vulcan.
- 54:12Speaker 1: Like that crazy outrage, how dare she?
- 54:15Speaker 4: Yeah? Oh, here's a neat tidbit too.
- 54:19Speaker 2: Just after Admiral Kirk steps aboard, Scottie says, I I
- 54:25Speaker 2: had a weep out, sir, but doctor McCoy pulled me through.
- 54:29Speaker 2: This is a reference to James Dowan had a heart
- 54:32Speaker 2: attack just before filming place.
- 54:35Speaker 1: Oh my god, I didn't know when.
- 54:39Speaker 2: When Kirk says about of what, h McCoy says, surely right, Yeah,
- 54:51Speaker 2: I agree, m Yeah, this overall film great. Uh, you
- 54:59Speaker 2: know the ending. Let's talk about the ending a little bit. Yea, Yeah,
- 55:03Speaker 2: Spock dies and and they were they were gonna go
- 55:08Speaker 2: film this, and they were, you know, having a character
- 55:13Speaker 2: die even in Star Trek back then, that could be.
- 55:16Speaker 4: It's it seems kind of permanent.
- 55:17Speaker 2: So I think I can't remember if it was Leonard
- 55:20Speaker 2: Niemoy or Harve Bennett or Nick Meyer that said, what
- 55:23Speaker 2: if Spock just before he goes into the chamber does
- 55:28Speaker 2: a little maybe I don't know, maybe a little mind
- 55:30Speaker 2: meld with McCoy, just just just just leaving a little
- 55:34Speaker 2: bit of a thread. And they're like, yeah, that's probably
- 55:37Speaker 2: not a bad idea.
- 55:38Speaker 4: So that's that.
- 55:38Speaker 2: That last that Remember the Vulcan thing, you know, the
- 55:42Speaker 2: mind meld he does with McCoy was a last minute
- 55:44Speaker 2: an edition and uh, Leonardiemoy said that he didn't he
- 55:48Speaker 2: didn't realize that there was a shot of the coffin
- 55:52Speaker 2: on the planet surface until he saw the premiere.
- 55:55Speaker 1: Oh wow, yeah, so they had for him.
- 56:00Speaker 7: Uh, I'm not a big fan of the I'm gonna
- 56:03Speaker 7: put my contra in McCoy's head and leave it there storyline.
- 56:10Speaker 7: I know now, I think there was a last minute
- 56:13Speaker 7: thing that they decided to do. I don't think it
- 56:18Speaker 7: makes any sense. I think it makes Vulcans immortal.
- 56:26Speaker 3: In a way.
- 56:28Speaker 2: Well, the only way that you could have made Spock
- 56:30Speaker 2: immortal or done that is because of the Genesis device.
- 56:32Speaker 2: Two unlikely things had to happen. I know, I'm gonna
- 56:35Speaker 2: die and my my molecules are gonna get redone.
- 56:39Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 56:40Speaker 7: Yeah, well I think it's uneary. I thought it was
- 56:42Speaker 7: completely unnecessary. They could have told the same they could
- 56:46Speaker 7: have not tell the same story. Well, Search for Spock
- 56:49Speaker 7: is not really a great film, so you know, they
- 56:52Speaker 7: had the same outcome that we get at the end
- 56:54Speaker 7: of Search for Spock by you know, his his pod
- 56:58Speaker 7: lands on the newly flo Genesis planet and something in
- 57:01Speaker 7: the Genesis effect revives his body.
- 57:09Speaker 3: You know the.
- 57:10Speaker 7: Problems you get the same thing, You get the same
- 57:13Speaker 7: thing Boilers.
- 57:14Speaker 1: That's next week, right, Yeah?
- 57:18Speaker 4: What show us on the dollar Spots?
- 57:21Speaker 3: Sorry?
- 57:24Speaker 1: Yeah, like film?
- 57:26Speaker 4: Yeah, I know Dan.
- 57:28Speaker 2: Why does Dan hate Spot so much? He doesn't want
- 57:30Speaker 2: him to come back? That's right, He's rooting for Con
- 57:34Speaker 2: the entire time.
- 57:35Speaker 4: Although that's another thing I want to say.
- 57:37Speaker 2: Uh, you know, along with Thanos, I sort of understand
- 57:44Speaker 2: CON's point.
- 57:45Speaker 4: Yeah, like, asshole, you left us here to.
- 57:49Speaker 2: Okay, Yeah, I get the con was a bad dude
- 57:53Speaker 2: and he tried to, you know, uh uh steal his
- 57:57Speaker 2: kirkship and murder him.
- 57:59Speaker 4: I get.
- 58:00Speaker 3: Okay.
- 58:01Speaker 2: Uh so I'm marooned out a planet and now it's
- 58:04Speaker 2: a desert planet and the only thing that's left alive
- 58:06Speaker 2: are brain sucking.
- 58:08Speaker 4: Earwigs and they all that killed.
- 58:12Speaker 2: Twenty of my my people, including my wife.
- 58:15Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm pissed off to it. Kirk, you didn't come back.
- 58:21Speaker 7: So he referred to those things as the only surviving
- 58:25Speaker 7: indigenous life form on this planet.
- 58:28Speaker 3: Do you know what that means?
- 58:29Speaker 4: They were there all the time.
- 58:31Speaker 3: No, it means they're eating those things.
- 58:33Speaker 5: Yeah, they're delicious.
- 58:37Speaker 4: They are delicious, especially with yamac sauce.
- 58:41Speaker 3: Hear me. You know, superior genetics are not.
- 58:46Speaker 7: You can't have a chest like that unless unless you're
- 58:50Speaker 7: you know, you're ingesting protein.
- 58:54Speaker 4: Maybe they had a lot of protein powder and creatine.
- 58:57Speaker 7: Yeah, either that or likes. There's a lot of beans
- 59:01Speaker 7: on off there, you which means inside of the body
- 59:07Speaker 7: smells terrible.
- 59:09Speaker 4: Oh god, oh no, NonStop. I want to think of
- 59:13Speaker 4: that arts enhanced flatulence.
- 59:19Speaker 3: Oh genetically enhanced flatches. Well, that's a good place to
- 59:23Speaker 3: leave it.
- 59:24Speaker 4: Yep, yep. Oh no, I think we're ready for h
- 59:29Speaker 4: listener feedback.
- 59:30Speaker 1: Yeah, let's get the listener feedback.
- 59:33Speaker 5: Yeah, listener feedback.
- 59:40Speaker 4: All right.
- 59:41Speaker 1: I uh, I got a voicemail.
- 59:46Speaker 4: All right, go ahead, play your voicemail.
- 59:47Speaker 1: All right, let's play the voicemails.
- 59:49Speaker 6: Here we go, guys, wrap the Con four probably the
- 59:58Speaker 6: second best movie of the year, kind of tie it
- 1:00:01Speaker 6: with Undiscovered Country, but having just watched in the darkness,
- 1:00:08Speaker 6: realizing that spots that con from rat to con think
- 1:00:13Speaker 6: in two dimensions, thinking that they actually had access to
- 1:00:16Speaker 6: the technology that Calvin universe con had. What destruction he
- 1:00:24Speaker 6: could have brought to the Prime Time universe for thought? Peace?
- 1:00:34Speaker 4: Okay, Okay, I like it?
- 1:00:38Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, I have an email from Kevin Okay, okay.
- 1:00:46Speaker 2: Kevin says high to all the star Trek Trek cast gang.
- 1:00:51Speaker 2: I just thought i'd write in about the new episode
- 1:00:53Speaker 2: of Black Mirror. If you haven't seen the new USS
- 1:00:56Speaker 2: Callister episode, It's totally worth it. Such deep nuance and
- 1:01:01Speaker 2: something to talk about with the level of human conditions.
- 1:01:04Speaker 2: This episode further iterates that Kurtzman has no clue what
- 1:01:08Speaker 2: he is doing to star Trek at Fall. There isn't
- 1:01:11Speaker 2: a single bit of intelligence written into section thirty one,
- 1:01:14Speaker 2: and this Black Mare episode is so rich with character.
- 1:01:17Speaker 2: Until we get rid of Kurtzman, Trek can never return.
- 1:01:20Speaker 2: Alex doesn't have a passion or care about sci fi.
- 1:01:23Speaker 2: It's not sci fi that he's even making. It's B
- 1:01:26Speaker 2: level crap and he's getting paid big money to do it.
- 1:01:29Speaker 4: Signed, Kevin, tell us how you really feel, Kevin? Right right? Yeah,
- 1:01:34Speaker 4: I can't say I disagree. I haven't seen Black Marry yet. Yeah.
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: You say I didn't realize that Black Marry was out already?
- 1:01:40Speaker 3: Yeah, I didn't night then?
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: Yeah, so now I know what I'm watching tonight.
- 1:01:46Speaker 5: Yeah, probably watch both those episodes back to back, because I.
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: Don't remember the first one.
- 1:01:52Speaker 4: You Uh, I think you had nail on the hat.
- 1:01:54Speaker 2: I think you're expressing the same thing that a lot
- 1:01:56Speaker 2: of Trek fans are expressing that not loving Kurtzman that much.
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: Yeah, a lot of crustrated people about that.
- 1:02:05Speaker 2: So we want who do we want? We want freaks?
- 1:02:10Speaker 2: And who was the other guy that was that we
- 1:02:12Speaker 2: really liked Metallics? Yeah, Terry Mettallas.
- 1:02:15Speaker 4: And Jonathan Frakes.
- 1:02:18Speaker 2: Yeah, Metallics brings the the new, the fresh blood ish
- 1:02:24Speaker 2: kind of stuff, the kind of truck fan stuff, and
- 1:02:28Speaker 2: Freaks brings that old school old trek, you know, knowledge
- 1:02:35Speaker 2: and and feel. So h and the trombone and the
- 1:02:40Speaker 2: and the trombone. That's right, absolutely, that's what truck fans want.
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: Yeah, sure, so I did post it.
- 1:02:48Speaker 5: Yeah we got Jazz was waiting, but real quick, I
- 1:02:51Speaker 5: did post in some of the groups.
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: I wanted to share this.
- 1:02:54Speaker 5: The con is after you, con wants revenge because and
- 1:02:57Speaker 5: then use predictive text.
- 1:02:59Speaker 1: So he had some pretty funny ones.
- 1:03:01Speaker 5: We had con wants revenge for the fact that he's
- 1:03:03Speaker 5: the one that got killed in a fight in a
- 1:03:06Speaker 5: car crash. Another one is con wants revenge because the
- 1:03:10Speaker 5: enterprise n x O one to the phone with the
- 1:03:13Speaker 5: happy face and orange juice in the movies with the
- 1:03:17Speaker 5: happy already you know you'll like it?
- 1:03:19Speaker 4: What wow?
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: Yeah, so there you go.
- 1:03:26Speaker 5: I just thought that was fun. We had a bunch
- 1:03:29Speaker 5: of other weird ones. But let me bringing Chaz biz.
- 1:03:33Speaker 5: He's here there, he is.
- 1:03:36Speaker 1: Hello, what's going on?
- 1:03:37Speaker 4: Mans Bizz?
- 1:03:41Speaker 8: Well you picked a good episode, so.
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: Yeah movie, yes, Dan picked a good one.
- 1:03:46Speaker 8: To do you show up on Yes, yes, yeah he
- 1:03:49Speaker 8: woke up.
- 1:03:52Speaker 4: Dan's gonna pick the next movie we watched too, That's right.
- 1:03:55Speaker 8: I would say dance the Carol Marcus of this episode.
- 1:03:58Speaker 8: When he she's cutting out talking the Kark their time,
- 1:04:03Speaker 8: Dans tries to say something.
- 1:04:08Speaker 2: Genis, what are you talking about?
- 1:04:12Speaker 3: Are you there?
- 1:04:13Speaker 4: What's going on? Oh?
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: Boy? Would you? Would you think of the movie?
- 1:04:20Speaker 6: Jess?
- 1:04:21Speaker 8: That's a plus?
- 1:04:22Speaker 4: So yeah?
- 1:04:24Speaker 1: I mean, is this your favorite of the TS films?
- 1:04:29Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 1:04:29Speaker 8: Yeah, it's top tier. What's it's all the evens? Yeah,
- 1:04:34Speaker 8: the even numbers are are the best?
- 1:04:37Speaker 4: Yeah, up to a point.
- 1:04:38Speaker 8: All This Undiscovered Country is probably my favorite because I
- 1:04:41Speaker 8: watched it the most as a child. I would say
- 1:04:45Speaker 8: this one and then boy Chum top three.
- 1:04:51Speaker 1: And pretty good.
- 1:04:53Speaker 8: This is a Star Trek movie that only had two
- 1:04:56Speaker 8: aliens in it.
- 1:05:01Speaker 1: Who the sparking.
- 1:05:04Speaker 3: Savage?
- 1:05:05Speaker 1: Yeah that's true.
- 1:05:09Speaker 8: Aliens except the hair wig.
- 1:05:15Speaker 3: I missed what he said.
- 1:05:16Speaker 1: This is a Star Trek movie that only had what
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: two aliens?
- 1:05:19Speaker 3: Aires? Two aliens?
- 1:05:22Speaker 4: There? Everybody was human, even Conn and his crew.
- 1:05:25Speaker 3: Well the ear wig that's an alien life form.
- 1:05:28Speaker 2: Okay, yeah to humanoid aliens, but his his dial the Aliens.
- 1:05:34Speaker 4: Dialogue was really bad in that movie.
- 1:05:35Speaker 8: Yes, especially when the the one captain shoots himself.
- 1:05:45Speaker 4: You know, yeah, I was my.
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: Yeah, good good, good good. You got emailed the bart
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: how many?
- 1:05:55Speaker 2: I wonder how many listeners we just had drop off
- 1:05:57Speaker 2: because of that?
- 1:05:58Speaker 4: A few? Yeah, I'm sure.
- 1:06:01Speaker 8: You just seem like melting away. That's pretty creepy, yeah that,
- 1:06:08Speaker 8: you know.
- 1:06:08Speaker 2: They they also talked about those those special effects like
- 1:06:11Speaker 2: it it was that was bad well with the the props.
- 1:06:17Speaker 2: That was the prop thing with the like you could
- 1:06:21Speaker 2: even see the string as they were going into their
- 1:06:24Speaker 2: ears as they were sliding. Once they put the helmets
- 1:06:26Speaker 2: back on, you can see that the string that was
- 1:06:28Speaker 2: pulling the little things along their cheet. So, I mean,
- 1:06:32Speaker 2: but they had to cut this. They had to have
- 1:06:34Speaker 2: a low budget. They had to have a lower budget then,
- 1:06:38Speaker 2: you know, if they're going to make any money. And
- 1:06:39Speaker 2: if they hadn't have cut the budget like this, if
- 1:06:41Speaker 2: they've blown the budget, we wouldn't have seen Star Trek three.
- 1:06:44Speaker 8: I love that the station, you know that Carol Marcus
- 1:06:48Speaker 8: is on that. All the coloring look like my old
- 1:06:50Speaker 8: fish or Price cassette player, the tanpe colors, you know,
- 1:06:56Speaker 8: all the plasticky stuff like tann and tope is just
- 1:06:59Speaker 8: ugly eighties colors like that.
- 1:07:01Speaker 1: I mean that was the silent time though, Yeah right.
- 1:07:04Speaker 2: And apparently they still play bridge in the twenty third century.
- 1:07:09Speaker 8: Yes, and have spectacles, so and spcles could have got
- 1:07:13Speaker 8: lay six, but he's like, no, I'm gonna go old
- 1:07:15Speaker 8: fashioned way and score these old glasses.
- 1:07:17Speaker 2: Yep, yeah, yeah. Recnex five is the only other thing.
- 1:07:24Speaker 2: But he's agent allergic to Recnex, rec rex whatever that drug.
- 1:07:28Speaker 2: I guess that's a drug. I'm assuming that's a drug
- 1:07:30Speaker 2: that fixes your eyesight.
- 1:07:33Speaker 8: And what do you think of the handles on the
- 1:07:36Speaker 8: space suits?
- 1:07:39Speaker 4: Well, they were necessary otherwise con couldn't, you know.
- 1:07:47Speaker 2: I've heard people say they had a problem with that,
- 1:07:49Speaker 2: with the handles on the space suits, and to that
- 1:07:54Speaker 2: on on on some I can't I've seen him on
- 1:07:59Speaker 2: police vests and also on military.
- 1:08:01Speaker 4: Bulletproof vests or bullet resistant they have handles.
- 1:08:06Speaker 2: They have a strap that are specifically designed to grab
- 1:08:09Speaker 2: onto so you can pull your buddy who's all shot up,
- 1:08:13Speaker 2: out of arm's way. They're they're they're reinforced straps usually
- 1:08:17Speaker 2: on the back that you can grab onto, and and
- 1:08:20Speaker 2: and pull a buddy out of a situation.
- 1:08:23Speaker 4: So maybe that's that kind of thing.
- 1:08:25Speaker 2: Is a handle maybe specifically designed for a gloved hand
- 1:08:28Speaker 2: to you know, pick up and move around.
- 1:08:31Speaker 8: Hands.
- 1:08:32Speaker 7: I think it's a space so I think it's probably
- 1:08:35Speaker 7: uh designed to clip a teether too, like a caribbeane
- 1:08:40Speaker 7: or clip. Yeah, environment, you clip that tether so you
- 1:08:46Speaker 7: don't float off into space.
- 1:08:52Speaker 8: I watched the Fathom Events probably about five years ago
- 1:08:55Speaker 8: in the theater and they yeah, Kirk and Kirk was
- 1:08:59Speaker 8: k William Shatner, of course, but William Shatner was talking
- 1:09:05Speaker 8: about Ricardo of Mantaban. He couldn't really walk at the time.
- 1:09:10Speaker 8: He had a hard time. He had a limp because
- 1:09:13Speaker 8: he was injured in the movie years ago, and he
- 1:09:17Speaker 8: could barely move. But he worked out a lot, like
- 1:09:20Speaker 8: his arms and everything. That's why his chest was so big.
- 1:09:23Speaker 8: If you noticed in the movie he's sitting most of.
- 1:09:26Speaker 1: The time, a lot of the time.
- 1:09:27Speaker 4: Yeah, And he.
- 1:09:28Speaker 8: Doesn't walk much.
- 1:09:31Speaker 4: And that's why when he does he walks slow. Yeah,
- 1:09:34Speaker 4: he walks.
- 1:09:34Speaker 8: Slow as he walked with a limp back then. He crawls, yeah,
- 1:09:40Speaker 8: and he crawls and he practices a Shakespeare no.
- 1:09:45Speaker 2: No, you know what, I'm gonna correct you on that one.
- 1:09:47Speaker 2: And the reason I'm going to correct you is because
- 1:09:49Speaker 2: I thought the same thing up until yesterday. It's not shit.
- 1:09:52Speaker 2: I thought for the years, I thought that was Shakespeare. Okay,
- 1:09:56Speaker 2: but he's talking about revenge. This is a speech about
- 1:09:59Speaker 2: rev revenge, other major things about revenge, and they talk
- 1:10:04Speaker 2: they touch on it in Star Trek First contact. That's
- 1:10:07Speaker 2: from Moby Dick. And I thought it was Shakespeare up
- 1:10:12Speaker 2: until twelve hours ago.
- 1:10:14Speaker 8: Okay, So.
- 1:10:18Speaker 4: Yeah, and then I googled it. And then I googled it,
- 1:10:20Speaker 4: I'm like, what is this quote about?
- 1:10:23Speaker 3: Here?
- 1:10:23Speaker 2: I spent my last breath at the and I'm looking
- 1:10:25Speaker 2: it up, like, oh, that's from.
- 1:10:27Speaker 8: So they I'm talking about the stupid It's.
- 1:10:31Speaker 2: A quote from Ahab talking about the way talking to
- 1:10:34Speaker 2: the whale that from Hell's Fire. I whatever at the
- 1:10:38Speaker 2: I spit my last breath at the You know a
- 1:10:41Speaker 2: have spent you know, his entire life looking for the
- 1:10:44Speaker 2: whale that crippled him and in the end, as Picard says,
- 1:10:46Speaker 2: it ended up destroying them.
- 1:10:48Speaker 8: Oh wow, I bet they had some banger chipping Dill's
- 1:10:52Speaker 8: shows there on that planet.
- 1:10:55Speaker 1: That's a weird thing to bring up.
- 1:11:00Speaker 8: A think that he just I was like, this is
- 1:11:02Speaker 8: my revenge I'm gonna say to Kirk when I ever
- 1:11:05Speaker 8: see him. And then the other guys are all dressed
- 1:11:08Speaker 8: as Chippendale dancers and just working out and doing squat.
- 1:11:12Speaker 1: I like the idea of con being like, all right, Kirk,
- 1:11:14Speaker 1: I'm gonna kill you. Boys dance.
- 1:11:20Speaker 8: Up to Carol Marcus.
- 1:11:23Speaker 4: And then our wives are like, you know, they look
- 1:11:25Speaker 4: up from their phones that.
- 1:11:34Speaker 3: I have a fun sat.
- 1:11:42Speaker 4: Now Carol Marcus.
- 1:11:44Speaker 2: No, you're Carol Marcus showing No, it looks like a crow.
- 1:11:55Speaker 1: Yeah, hey there you are all right?
- 1:11:59Speaker 3: Are you good?
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: Yeah, there's be again.
- 1:12:03Speaker 7: Ricardo Montalban does not share the screen with William Shatner
- 1:12:07Speaker 7: throughout this whole movie Walking to a Wall. Yes, all
- 1:12:13Speaker 7: the communication goes over, you know, either the communicator or
- 1:12:16Speaker 7: the or the screen on the bridge of the Enterprise.
- 1:12:20Speaker 7: In fact, Riccardo Montalban only shares a scene with one
- 1:12:26Speaker 7: Enterprise crew member, and that's Chekov. Yeah, and that's the
- 1:12:30Speaker 7: time he's shared a scene with him, because Chekhov was
- 1:12:32Speaker 7: not in Space Seed.
- 1:12:34Speaker 2: That's right, yes, yeah, Now they've my head cannon for
- 1:12:40Speaker 2: that is. You know, there's a lot of crew members
- 1:12:45Speaker 2: in Space Seed that we probably didn't see, so it's
- 1:12:48Speaker 2: never specifically said in the original series that, oh, this
- 1:12:50Speaker 2: person just transferred on board. Maybe he was a lower
- 1:12:54Speaker 2: decker that I'm guessing he was a lower decker and
- 1:12:57Speaker 2: then he got promoted to count officer. M hmm, so
- 1:13:03Speaker 2: he could he could have seen him in the hallway,
- 1:13:05Speaker 2: you know. I heard somebody mention his name. That's where
- 1:13:08Speaker 2: my head canon's at, because it's there's nothing to refute
- 1:13:11Speaker 2: that maybe cuck Off.
- 1:13:13Speaker 4: I think check Off was on the Enterprise all all along.
- 1:13:16Speaker 7: They touched on this in Into Darkness, That's that's why
- 1:13:19Speaker 7: they put him down in engineering.
- 1:13:21Speaker 2: Okay, Oh yeah, yeah, Okay, that makes it. Oh yeah, Kevin.
- 1:13:28Speaker 2: Kevin says, that makes a cool connection to first contact
- 1:13:31Speaker 2: that I don't know before. Cool quote from Moby Dick. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:13:35Speaker 2: makes it. Yeah.
- 1:13:36Speaker 8: It's funny because this first time I watched this with
- 1:13:39Speaker 8: my dad and he kept on call him it Star
- 1:13:41Speaker 8: Wars so and he's like, so, did the director did
- 1:13:47Speaker 8: he make Star Wars?
- 1:13:49Speaker 1: Uh?
- 1:13:50Speaker 8: No, the star Trek Dad, Oh so who made Star Wars?
- 1:13:56Speaker 4: This other little known guy name George is a one
- 1:14:01Speaker 4: and done director.
- 1:14:03Speaker 3: This is Jean Roberry.
- 1:14:04Speaker 8: Who's Gene Roddenberry?
- 1:14:05Speaker 4: Is he Dad? Is he alive?
- 1:14:07Speaker 1: Like you guys said, Now, okay, you're going you gotta
- 1:14:11Speaker 1: go Dan.
- 1:14:12Speaker 3: Yeah, my phone's okay. All right. Well yeah, come and
- 1:14:18Speaker 3: live long and prosper all right later.
- 1:14:21Speaker 4: Yeah, we should probably wrap this up because I gotta
- 1:14:23Speaker 4: I gotta take my son to Comic Con.
- 1:14:25Speaker 1: Yeah, we should wrap it up a little bit.
- 1:14:27Speaker 4: So I will post some pictures and some things. Uh.
- 1:14:31Speaker 2: Like I said, there's not a lot of Star Trek
- 1:14:32Speaker 2: stuff going on at the Comic Con. Uh, Starfleet International
- 1:14:36Speaker 2: does have a booth there, so I'll take a few
- 1:14:38Speaker 2: pictures of that. And there's an interview that I did
- 1:14:42Speaker 2: with one of the captains from that vern. I posted
- 1:14:47Speaker 2: that on our Facebook group. It's an interview I did
- 1:14:49Speaker 2: with him about six months ago. So head on over

- 1:16:01Speaker 4: All right?
- 1:16:02Speaker 1: Ned bye.
- 1:16:04Speaker 10: This is Captain Benjamin Cisco of Deep Space nine and
- 1:16:07Speaker 10: Space God to the Bajorans.
- 1:16:09Speaker 3: I have a mission for you.
