- 0:00Happy Saturday morning everybody one down to to go.
- 0:09The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series finished their
- 0:13championship race off in Phoenix, AZ last night.
- 0:19Corey Heim set records for the history of the NASCAR Truck
- 0:26Series. He led the most laps for a
- 0:31singular year. That means they started at
- 0:35Daytona and they ended at Phoenix, and Corey Heim set a
- 0:40record. He led more laps for the total
- 0:43year for all the race tracks than anybody in history.
- 0:49Twelve wins. Thirteen wins, whatever it was,
- 0:53complete domination at Phoenix on Friday night.
- 1:01And Matt Crafton made a little bit of news after the truck
- 1:04race, and we're going to talk about that too.
- 1:06But let's talk about this truck race and then on Sunday morning
- 1:11we'll talk about the Xfinity race, OK?
- 1:18If you see the highlight towards the end of the truck race,
- 1:22there's seven wide, 7 trucks wide.
- 1:28It's like, is there any racetrack that's seven lane
- 1:32wide? No, but in Phoenix you're,
- 1:36you're allowed to use. We're not supposed to race.
- 1:40But NASCAR goes, ah, go ahead. You know what?
- 1:43When they built that racetrack, that was the back straightaway.
- 1:48And then when they really fixed Phoenix up, they made that the
- 1:53front straightaway. Nobody stays on the racetrack
- 1:57anymore. They go down on the apron.
- 1:59And so that allowed everybody to be 7 wide.
- 2:03And that, my friends, was what Corey Heim had to do.
- 2:07He pitted for four tires when other people didn't pit, and
- 2:12some people pitted for right sides only.
- 2:16He came from 5th or 6th row, I mean, just with a couple laps
- 2:20ago and he went seven wide on the inside.
- 2:25This young man. How old is Corey Heim?
- 2:28Is he 1920 years old? He's young.
- 2:32He's young. And like Denny Hamlin said,
- 2:36Denny Hamlin said that Corey Heim is coming and he is more
- 2:41mature than any great race car driver at that age and he's ever
- 2:45seen. That's a good shout out by Denny
- 2:48Hamlin. So congratulations to Corey
- 2:52Heim, well deserved, well done and he is going to be a NASCAR
- 2:58Cup champion one day. I can tell just by the way I
- 3:03watch him drive. OK, now let's talk about the cry
- 3:09babies. The race is over and there
- 3:14there's a group of people that want to prove that the NASCAR
- 3:23championship format across the board across all three, you
- 3:28know, series. They want to prove that it's
- 3:30bad. So when when Corey Haim made
- 3:34that seven wide move and eventually took the lead from Ty
- 3:40Majeski, who only had right sides on Ty was a is a great
- 3:47race car driver, but he only had right side towers.
- 3:50Corey had four tires on, so he had an advantage and Corey led
- 3:55the whole race. Anyway, they was going to try to
- 3:57steal it from Corey Heim. So there's a group of people
- 4:04after the truck race that went Corey Heim lagged back.
- 4:08He got a running start and that's illegal.
- 4:12People, people. I mean, there's somebody on my
- 4:22timeline that mean wrote, wrote a novel and posted and pasted
- 4:26and, you know, took a picture and then put his.
- 4:30He took a picture right here and then over here he wrote what he
- 4:33thought that down here there was another picture and he wrote
- 4:36what he thought. I mean like that.
- 4:37I love the passion, but people, you'd got to admit when you're
- 4:43beat, you know, when I'm, I'm going to, I'm going to put the
- 4:48knife in my back so you all feel better.
- 4:53There was a time that I was just devastated when I realized that
- 4:58God gave Jeff Gordon more talent than me.
- 5:02And I was like, oh, it was a crushing blow.
- 5:06So my message for all of you, if I can recognize and give people
- 5:11credit when I know they're better than me.
- 5:13I know it hurts like hell, but you just got to let it go.
- 5:18Corey Heim, I don't care if he lagged back a half a truck or
- 5:21one truck or whatever the hell. He's the best.
- 5:25And when you can admit that, you'll be free and you'll be
- 5:29happier with yourself. Now to end this, they the front
- 5:34stretch interviewed Matt Crafton after the race.
- 5:38Now, I want to be clear, Matt Crafton, what he said, they
- 5:43said, they kept asking, they kept asking and he kept
- 5:47answering. And it's like, Matt, you know,
- 5:50you're a champion, you're great. You had a wonderful truck
- 5:54career. And then you know that, I mean,
- 5:56Matt Crafton is a champion, is a winner, he's great.
- 6:00But he like anybody's getting older and it's time to race less
- 6:04and do what he wants to do. So they said, OK, Matt, next
- 6:11year when you race part time in the Truck Series, what are you
- 6:17looking at doing? And Matt simply said, I want to
- 6:21race where I matter, where I can use my 2 feet and make a
- 6:25difference. Matt Crafton clearly said the
- 6:30mile and a halfs are no good for the trucks right now because
- 6:34NASCAR messed all the rules up and you just hold it wide open
- 6:40and there's not enough horsepower.
- 6:43Well, I I would say that he told the truth, but but he had a
- 6:48horrible night. And I liked what Matt Crafton
- 6:50said. He said, hey, look, we're just
- 6:52going to forget about it. You know, we're not going to let
- 6:56these this last year or two. And Matt said our program got
- 7:00worse the last two years. And and I can tell you this, and
- 7:06it happened to me. There was a time I was bitter
- 7:09about NASCAR. I was bitter just because did
- 7:13not go good for me. But once I moved back to Saint
- 7:17Louis, started running my dirt car and I started, you know,
- 7:21forgiving myself for me not running real good, I started
- 7:27loving NASCAR again. So in the heat of the battle,
- 7:33you're going to say some things you don't want to say.
- 7:35And Matt Crafton last night, he told, he told that guy, he goes,
- 7:39man, listen, our truck team has gone the wrong direction the
- 7:44last two or three years. We are no good.
- 7:48And when when you're when you're team goes the wrong direction,
- 7:51that means it's going to show up on the mile and a half too.
- 7:56I can tell you from experience, Matt is right.
- 8:00But if you have a really good race car, you're going to love
- 8:04the mile and a half. He's right.
- 8:07You know, you got to have a good race car to compete on the mile
- 8:11and a half. And if you don't, you're going
- 8:14to hate life. You're going to hate it.
- 8:17So Matt's going to look back later on, five years from now,
- 8:22and he's going to fit right in there with, you know, Mike
- 8:27Skinner and all the greats in the Truck Series.
- 8:31And he's going to go, I love NASCAR, I forgive myself for not
- 8:36running good at the end of my career.
- 8:38But it wasn't him. It wasn't Matt.
- 8:41It was his team. So I'm going to leave you all of
- 8:46this when things aren't going good in our lives.
- 8:50Everything's every, you're bitter, everything's bad.
- 8:53But you cut, you come up for you come up for fresh air later on
- 8:57you go, man, how thankful I am for winning all those
- 9:01championships. So Matt Crafton, just bitter,
- 9:06but he'll let a little time go. He'll go run his dirt car and
- 9:08he'll rot. He'll realize that it was NASCAR
- 9:12that made him a champion. It was NASCAR that made him who
- 9:16he is today. And I went through this.
- 9:19I went through this. I hated NASCAR, I hated
- 9:23everybody. And then five years went by and
- 9:26I said, OK, I'm ready to forgive myself.
- 9:29OK, Marcus Smith, I'll come back and I'll do Trackside lives.
- 9:34It'll be all right, Matt. It'll be all right.
- 9:37And it sucks when you can't run good when you're used to running
- 9:40good. All right, everybody, Today's
- 9:46the Xfinity race. We'll talk about that tomorrow.
- 9:50Have a great Saturday, everybody.
