- 0:00SPEAKER_02: Welcome back, everybody, to season three.
- 0:03SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, I know.
- 0:04SPEAKER_02: I have obnoxiously a while.
- 0:06SPEAKER_02: I know it took a while.
- 0:07SPEAKER_02: We're really sorry, but a lot has happened since the last time that we met.
- 0:10SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, right?
- 0:11SPEAKER_02: It's I think November.
- 0:14SPEAKER_02: It was crazy, right?
- 0:15SPEAKER_02: So I went to Egypt.
- 0:16SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 0:17SPEAKER_02: And then I went to Ohio.
- 0:18SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 0:18SPEAKER_02: Right?
- 0:19SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 0:19SPEAKER_02: And then I came back and it was New Year's.
- 0:21SPEAKER_01: And then we tried doing this like three weeks ago.
- 0:24SPEAKER_01: And it did not work.
- 0:24SPEAKER_02: It did not work because Hanan was, you know.
- 0:27SPEAKER_02: Hanan was having a moment.
- 0:29SPEAKER_02: I was having a moment.
- 0:30SPEAKER_02: You know, I was just like having a moment where I was trying to recalibrate how I feel about life.
- 0:34SPEAKER_02: And so I was in a negative headspace.
- 0:36SPEAKER_02: I needed to get out of it before we could do this.
- 0:38SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 0:38SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 0:39SPEAKER_02: That's it.
- 0:40SPEAKER_02: So uh how was your trip?
- 0:42SPEAKER_02: My trip was amazing.
- 0:43SPEAKER_02: It was wonderful.
- 0:43SPEAKER_02: Kids had a blast.
- 0:44SPEAKER_02: Everybody had a blast.
- 0:45SPEAKER_02: It's really nice to go home and connect.
- 0:46SPEAKER_02: And honestly, I think I was in a negative headspace because I had the post-vacation blues.
- 0:50SPEAKER_01: I think so.
- 0:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 0:51SPEAKER_01: I mean, and same with me.
- 0:54SPEAKER_01: Whenever I go somewhere, when I come back, I need like a whole week to recover.
- 0:57SPEAKER_02: That's like pretty much what I think what I need to do.
- 0:59SPEAKER_01: Especially when you're visiting family.
- 1:00SPEAKER_01: Well, I love you guys, but yeah, it's it's a lot.
- 1:03SPEAKER_02: We're just gonna laser for that, okay?
- 1:06SPEAKER_02: Um, but no, I I agree with you.
- 1:08SPEAKER_02: And it's really hard because I disconnected completely for three weeks.
- 1:11SPEAKER_02: So to come back to you know, life and reality, you're like, Yeah.
- 1:15SPEAKER_02: So have you uh go ahead.
- 1:16SPEAKER_02: What do you want to say?
- 1:17SPEAKER_02: No, I was gonna tell you.
- 1:18SPEAKER_01: So there's a lot that's happened, not just with us, but like in the I know, like Shakira broke up with PK.
- 1:24SPEAKER_01: I know did you see the last video of her mother-in-law?
- 1:28SPEAKER_01: Yes, dude, that was so like muscle.
- 1:30SPEAKER_02: So for me, honestly, I am like hats off to Shakira.
- 1:34SPEAKER_02: He, I mean, first of all, she's gorgeous, yeah, right.
- 1:39SPEAKER_02: And the best comeback was the fact that she like wrote that song, which I absolutely love, um, even though I don't speak any Spanish, but I just I love the concept.
- 1:47SPEAKER_02: Um I just feel like, did you have to cheat on her?
- 1:50SPEAKER_02: Couldn't you?
- 1:50SPEAKER_02: Well, you know what?
- 1:51SPEAKER_01: What I want to say about that is that you know, Shakira got cheated on.
- 1:56SPEAKER_01: I know.
- 1:57SPEAKER_01: And she look look how amazing she looks.
- 1:59SPEAKER_02: I know.
- 1:59SPEAKER_01: Let's not go there.
- 2:00SPEAKER_01: Let's go.
- 2:00SPEAKER_01: No, no, no, no.
- 2:01SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna go there.
- 2:02SPEAKER_01: Like, if she can get cheated on, I mean just eat that piece of cake, man.
- 2:06SPEAKER_01: Like really, just eat it.
- 2:07SPEAKER_01: But it's just like you know, like we try too hard, and at the end of the day, if a person wants to cheat, and it's I'm not just saying it's man.
- 2:13SPEAKER_01: If a person wants to cheat, they're gonna cheat, regardless of whether it's a guy or a or a woman doing the cheating.
- 2:19SPEAKER_01: Some people are just gonna do that, and you just gotta, you know, do you love yourself.
- 2:24SPEAKER_02: I 100% agree with that.
- 2:26SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, right.
- 2:27SPEAKER_02: It's like, I mean, I don't know, it's curious so much that it's Shakira that got cheated on.
- 2:30SPEAKER_02: I think it's just the whole thing uh that goes back to, and I think I know why she was pissed and wrote that song because she felt like she gave up a lot and you know, she sacrificed a lot, and then this mofun went out, and you know, I'm not gonna talk about the other woman.
- 2:44SPEAKER_02: I don't care.
- 2:45SPEAKER_02: I just think it's for Shakira.
- 2:46SPEAKER_02: I think she put that song out because she's just like, I sacrificed.
- 2:50SPEAKER_02: Like for us to have this feeling.
- 2:51SPEAKER_01: You don't want monetize the situation, why not?
- 2:53SPEAKER_01: 100%.
- 2:54SPEAKER_01: I was like, you get it, girl.
- 2:55SPEAKER_01: Exactly, monetize that situation, exactly.
- 2:57SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 2:57SPEAKER_01: Um, because in the beginning I was like, if it was me, I wouldn't care.
- 3:00SPEAKER_01: But then I'm like, no, I would if if I was in that position, I would freaking monetize the hell out of it.
- 3:03SPEAKER_02: Me too, 100%.
- 3:04SPEAKER_01: But right?
- 3:05SPEAKER_02: 100%.
- 3:06SPEAKER_01: Um, Prince Harry's book and the uh Netflix.
- 3:09SPEAKER_02: So I watched the Netflix thing.
- 3:11SPEAKER_02: I have not read the book, but I've watched the Netflix thing.
- 3:13SPEAKER_02: I haven't read the book either.
- 3:14SPEAKER_02: The book I'm waiting to borrow from one of my friends.
- 3:16SPEAKER_02: Okay, but uh I'm on the list of people waiting to borrow the book.
- 3:19SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 3:20SPEAKER_02: Um, you know, I can just buy it for you.
- 3:22SPEAKER_02: Yeah, but like what am I gonna do with it after?
- 3:24SPEAKER_02: It's true.
- 3:25SPEAKER_02: Maybe I'll get it from the library, like we used it back in the year.
- 3:27SPEAKER_02: I doubt they'll have it because everyone's gonna be That's true.
- 3:30SPEAKER_02: Anyways, moving on with that.
- 3:31SPEAKER_02: I the documentary was so interesting.
- 3:36SPEAKER_02: Yeah, definitely.
- 3:37SPEAKER_02: I well, I feel like I learned a lot because I don't really know much about like the royal family or the farm corrupt.
- 3:45SPEAKER_01: Isn't that cool?
- 3:46SPEAKER_01: They're evil.
- 3:47SPEAKER_01: That whole British uh uh uh family, royal family, they're just I mean they've ruined a lot of things in the world.
- 3:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah, exactly.
- 3:54SPEAKER_02: They've ruined the majority of them.
- 3:56SPEAKER_02: A huge part of me, like, you know how people are always like, oh my god, Megan Mark all is down uh and like a huge part of me, one felt really bad for her.
- 4:03SPEAKER_02: Yeah, two felt really bad for Harry.
- 4:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 4:06SPEAKER_01: Of course, I mean, like his I mean it's like obviously the whole uh racial thing that's effed up that goes without saying, but like I think his situation because it is his family, it's so like his dad, his brother, and I'm just like he must be in a really tough situation.
- 4:22SPEAKER_02: Honestly, like I kind of uh look, people say what you want about the book.
- 4:25SPEAKER_02: I know that there's like a lot of, and I'm not we'll we'll talk about that separately.
- 4:29SPEAKER_02: A lot of people feel like he's putting his family on blast, but I'm like, doesn't that like go back to the core of sometimes the people closest to you are the most toxic?
- 4:36SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and so I feel like he is the poor guy's like a victim of that.
- 4:40SPEAKER_02: Like the fact that his family is so freaking toxic.
- 4:42SPEAKER_01: And not just that, I mean, like what happened with his mom, I think he didn't want that to happen.
- 4:47SPEAKER_01: I know with his wife, but good for him, and he stood by her.
- 4:50SPEAKER_01: I know, I know that's what she does, that's what a real man does.
- 4:52SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 4:52SPEAKER_01: I mean, listen, I he's not like like I don't like I'm not obsessed with this whole royal family stuff, either way, but um, because I could care less, but like I had to watch it.
- 5:01SPEAKER_01: It's fine, Hanan.
- 5:02SPEAKER_01: You know, this is how Hanan treats me.
- 5:04SPEAKER_01: I know, you know.
- 5:05SPEAKER_01: I'm just like she's unimpressed by me.
- 5:07SPEAKER_01: That is so not true.
- 5:09SPEAKER_01: It's okay, Hanan.
- 5:09SPEAKER_01: I see that.
- 5:10SPEAKER_02: Do you know that yawning doesn't mean you're sleepy, it just means your body needs more oxygen.
- 5:13SPEAKER_02: I don't care.
- 5:14SPEAKER_02: We should ask about that.
- 5:15SPEAKER_02: Hey, friends on TikTok.
- 5:18SPEAKER_02: Doctors on TikTok, if you're a doctor or a nurse or somebody in the medical profession or on YouTube or on Instagram, you follow us.
- 5:23SPEAKER_02: You tell me if that's like a thing.
- 5:24SPEAKER_02: Like if you yawn, is it you're tired or does your body actually need oxygen?
- 5:27SPEAKER_02: Because I've I don't know.
- 5:29SPEAKER_02: So you think it's oxygen?
- 5:30SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 5:31SPEAKER_02: Anyways, but yeah, back to Prince Harry.
- 5:33SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 5:34SPEAKER_02: I feel like documentary, I was like, oh my god.
- 5:37SPEAKER_02: Like, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 5:38SPEAKER_02: You learned a lot.
- 5:38SPEAKER_02: And like the whole media situation there.
- 5:41SPEAKER_01: Like, I mean, you can't really know that it's just like it's like this buying and selling of people's private.
- 5:48SPEAKER_01: I didn't realize that the the way it's set up there.
- 5:50SPEAKER_01: It's like that.
- 5:51SPEAKER_01: It's really that's that's one thing that I I'm glad.
- 5:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 5:55SPEAKER_02: The book I know includes a lot of like weird details in the world.
- 5:57SPEAKER_02: I don't want to be reading the book.
- 5:58SPEAKER_02: I could I don't know.
- 5:58SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I mean, I would just read it out of sheer curiosity, nothing else.
- 6:01SPEAKER_01: I think the the Netflix thing was enough for me.
- 6:04SPEAKER_01: And also I watched The Crown, so like I'm good.
- 6:06SPEAKER_01: I'm sad.
- 6:06SPEAKER_01: The Crown is really good.
- 6:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 6:08SPEAKER_01: You know, he watches it.
- 6:09SPEAKER_01: I didn't know.
- 6:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I was watching a late show, uh, I can't remember with who, and they asked him about I think I don't know if it was Stephen Colbert or someone else.
- 6:16SPEAKER_01: And he's like, Yeah, I watch it, you know, which is pretty interesting.
- 6:20SPEAKER_01: Anyway, yeah, um, Kylie Jenner.
- 6:23SPEAKER_01: Oh right, she named her kid air.
- 6:26SPEAKER_02: Air.
- 6:27SPEAKER_01: And on Arab social media, oh my god, people wet nuts because well, she spelled it A I R E.
- 6:34SPEAKER_02: So people are like, is it air or airy?
- 6:36SPEAKER_02: Which in Arabic, both it's bad.
- 6:38SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, it's bad.
- 6:39SPEAKER_02: It's a it's a very bad the difference is air is penis, and airy is my penis.
- 6:44SPEAKER_01: That is so wrong.
- 6:45SPEAKER_01: What?
- 6:45SPEAKER_01: Like I'm not gonna say it.
- 6:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah, why can't you?
- 6:49SPEAKER_01: She says every other bad word, but no, when it comes to Arabic curse words, cut me out.
- 6:55SPEAKER_02: But actually, we don't use that word.
- 6:56SPEAKER_02: That's a very like Lebanese.
- 6:58SPEAKER_01: It's a Lebanese Palestinian Palestinians use it.
- 7:00SPEAKER_01: Oh, you guys do?
- 7:00SPEAKER_01: No, yeah, yeah.
- 7:01SPEAKER_01: We don't use it.
- 7:02SPEAKER_01: No, no, Palestinians use it, but like there's another word, it's like even more vulgar.
- 7:06SPEAKER_01: We're not gonna get into that.
- 7:07SPEAKER_01: But like, yeah, yeah, that part.
- 7:09SPEAKER_01: But the Lebanese on social media had.
- 7:11SPEAKER_02: Went nuts.
- 7:12SPEAKER_02: I'm telling you, I think I left for like three days afterwards.
- 7:14SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 7:15SPEAKER_02: Um because especially when somebody responded with is it air or airy?
- 7:19SPEAKER_02: And then somebody responded back to that comment on Kylie Jenner's post, basically being like, both are equally bad.
- 7:24SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, both are equally bad, definitely.
- 7:26SPEAKER_01: I mean, like, she she doesn't know that though.
- 7:28SPEAKER_01: Like, she's not Lebanese.
- 7:29SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 7:29SPEAKER_01: No, she's not.
- 7:30SPEAKER_01: We just we just had a feeling.
- 7:31SPEAKER_01: I mean, they were they originally named VR.
- 7:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah, they originally named him Wolf.
- 7:34SPEAKER_01: Wolf, yeah.
- 7:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and they should have stuck with that.
- 7:36SPEAKER_01: I agree.
- 7:36SPEAKER_01: Honestly, way better.
- 7:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's just my take.
- 7:38SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 7:39SPEAKER_01: Um, so the real discussion today is we caught up.
- 7:43SPEAKER_01: I think we're all caught up for the most part.
- 7:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah, there's some things where we don't want to touch because that's not what this podcast is about.
- 7:49SPEAKER_01: Um, but the responses, the people on social media, the issue with Arabs.
- 7:56SPEAKER_01: You know what I have to say to that?
- 7:57SPEAKER_02: Is this this tuz.
- 8:02SPEAKER_02: Before I get into the responses, you can too have a tuz shirt.
- 8:06SPEAKER_02: Okay, but explain what we're talking about exactly.
- 8:08SPEAKER_02: So people are so negative and people attack each other, and we're all like somebody telling me North Africans aren't Arabs, Arabs aren't North Africans.
- 8:17SPEAKER_02: You forgot this.
- 8:18SPEAKER_02: I can't believe you're calling it the Persian Gulf.
- 8:20SPEAKER_01: Okay, okay, we're gonna get into all this.
- 8:22SPEAKER_01: But basically, you know, being an Arab on social media, yeah.
- 8:25SPEAKER_01: I mean, being on social media in general, you know, obviously we're gonna expect some comments, but some of the comments that people are really some of them are really sweet, some of them are really funny, and then some of them are just rude.
- 8:37SPEAKER_02: Yeah, like there are some that I'm the I'm like, I will not stand for this.
- 8:40SPEAKER_01: Delete.
- 8:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you can't impress them.
- 8:42SPEAKER_02: No.
- 8:42SPEAKER_01: I mean, you can't please them.
- 8:43SPEAKER_01: Sorry, not impress them.
- 8:44SPEAKER_01: You can't you can't please everybody, and whenever, even it's something that's so like and and our like I said, our podcast and our videos are innocuous.
- 8:51SPEAKER_01: We stay away from politics, we stay away from issues or topics that we know are gonna offend people.
- 8:58SPEAKER_01: This isn't what this podcast is about.
- 9:01SPEAKER_01: This podcast is about, you know, having a good time, having a good conversation.
- 9:04SPEAKER_02: I know, and we've like, I honestly I've learned my lesson after Hummel's Gate.
- 9:07SPEAKER_01: So No, whatever.
- 9:08SPEAKER_01: Hummelsgate was an AV.
- 9:10SPEAKER_01: You need to be, you need we need to stand firm.
- 9:12SPEAKER_01: I agree.
- 9:13SPEAKER_01: Like that's a whole other topic about, you know, uh non-Arabic speakers getting offended because we say this is not how you pronounce it.
- 9:19SPEAKER_01: No, learn how to pronounce it.
- 9:21SPEAKER_01: It's not that difficult.
- 9:22SPEAKER_01: I say so.
- 9:23SPEAKER_01: You don't even do expi elodosion.
- 9:25SPEAKER_01: You don't have to say the hard H, like ha, well, they say hummus.
- 9:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 9:29SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 9:29SPEAKER_01: Like they butcher that.
- 9:31SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 9:31SPEAKER_02: Anyways, anyway, whatever.
- 9:33SPEAKER_01: So the first, we're gonna go through some of these comments.
- 9:35SPEAKER_01: That we're gonna before we get to the comments.
- 9:37SPEAKER_02: If you two want your shirts, and the best thing is the back of these shirts and the side of the say they what they say looks easy, which means it's just like whatever.
- 9:46SPEAKER_02: Exactly.
- 9:47SPEAKER_02: Um, they are made by um a friend, it's a woman, small woman-owned business, she's Palestinian American, and she is badass.
- 9:56SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 9:56SPEAKER_02: So um we'll put we'll we'll put the link in the confirmation.
- 9:59SPEAKER_02: Yeah, we'll put the link in.
- 10:00SPEAKER_02: And it's awesome because every single shirt is custom, like they, you know, she custom makes that specific order, and um uh 10% of it goes to a charity of her choice.
- 10:10SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 10:10SPEAKER_02: So which I really love by the way.
- 10:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, it's a pretty cool, and and they're very comfortable too.
- 10:14SPEAKER_02: Yeah, they're very soft and warm and everything.
- 10:16SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 10:16SPEAKER_01: So do you want to get into some of the comments that we've received?
- 10:18SPEAKER_02: Yes, let's do it.
- 10:19SPEAKER_01: Okay, so this is about Hamas.
- 10:21SPEAKER_02: Oh my god.
- 10:22SPEAKER_01: Uh, this person said, Can you imagine if English speaking country if English-speaking countries born and bred natives would correct you, the refugees, migrants, and even tourists this way?
- 10:34SPEAKER_01: They do.
- 10:35SPEAKER_02: I hate to break it to you.
- 10:36SPEAKER_02: They do.
- 10:37SPEAKER_02: Or it's even worse when they say, I'm sorry, like I don't understand anything that you're saying.
- 10:42SPEAKER_02: What?
- 10:43SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so comments like this, I'm like, what are you talking about?
- 10:45SPEAKER_02: What world do you live in?
- 10:46SPEAKER_02: Yes, they correct migrants all the time.
- 10:48SPEAKER_02: Yeah, they're always correct.
- 10:49SPEAKER_02: Systematically, they try to scare immigrants from even having an opinion on stuff.
- 10:54SPEAKER_02: I'm sorry.
- 10:55SPEAKER_02: So it's not just about correcting my language, you try to correct my existence.
- 10:59SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 10:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I can't I can't say it better.
- 11:02SPEAKER_01: Hanan is fired up.
- 11:03SPEAKER_02: Yeah, because I hate stuff like yes, you correct me all the time.
- 11:06SPEAKER_02: Excuse me, sir, I don't understand.
- 11:07SPEAKER_02: You know what it's like, for example, if like you know, my my dad is calling to ask a I'm sorry, sir, to a customer service, sir.
- 11:14SPEAKER_02: I'm really not understanding what you're trying to tell me.
- 11:17SPEAKER_01: My dad has really good English.
- 11:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 11:19SPEAKER_01: I'm like, exactly.
- 11:22SPEAKER_01: So here's the other thing.
- 11:23SPEAKER_01: Remember when we did that video?
- 11:25SPEAKER_01: It was like a sh like um a short we did, we used it on TikTok, and it was I I called it Arab trivia.
- 11:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 11:30SPEAKER_01: Because you know, Hanan loves my trivia for her.
- 11:33SPEAKER_02: Um she always asked me these questions that she only knows the answers to because she does her research and she's always like, you don't do your research.
- 11:39SPEAKER_01: Anyway, the point is I asked her, how many Arab countries are there?
- 11:43SPEAKER_02: And I seriously sat there, like I'm thinking, literally, like visualizing the map of the world in my head, trying to count through, and then we post the answers.
- 11:51SPEAKER_02: And people came at you, like sleeves rolled up, guns blazing.
- 11:57SPEAKER_01: So the first the first thing is uh you said she Hana said Persian Gulf instead of the Arabian Gulf, and that seemed to piss off more than I'm sorry.
- 12:07SPEAKER_02: I've you're gonna stand by that.
- 12:09unknown: Yes.
- 12:10SPEAKER_01: Oh my god, you're gonna piss off more people.
- 12:12SPEAKER_01: I don't care.
- 12:12SPEAKER_02: You know what?
- 12:13SPEAKER_02: I'm sorry.
- 12:14SPEAKER_02: I read a lot of different history books and a lot of different maps of the world, and some of them call it the Persian Gulf, some of them call it the Arabian Gulf.
- 12:22SPEAKER_02: Guess what?
- 12:23SPEAKER_02: It's all based on who is writing the damn book.
- 12:26SPEAKER_02: That's true.
- 12:26SPEAKER_01: Who is writing that piece of history Arabs?
- 12:28SPEAKER_01: It's the Arabian Gulf.
- 12:30SPEAKER_01: Okay, for that's fine.
- 12:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah, my Iranians.
- 12:33SPEAKER_01: It's the Persian Gulf.
- 12:34SPEAKER_01: Persians, it's Persian Gulf, you know?
- 12:35SPEAKER_01: But like it was such a educated my friend.
- 12:38SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 12:38SPEAKER_01: You know what your books say?
- 12:40SPEAKER_01: Uh Persian.
- 12:40SPEAKER_01: Persian golf.
- 12:41SPEAKER_01: Persian golf.
- 12:41SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 12:42SPEAKER_02: Honestly, it's not about where you what it is.
- 12:44SPEAKER_02: All I'm saying is it just about the book that you read.
- 12:46SPEAKER_02: People didn't have to come at you my freaking jugular the way that they did.
- 12:51SPEAKER_01: But you know what's funny is a friend of ours who's who's Persian, yeah, she messaged me right away.
- 12:55SPEAKER_01: Uh Hira, I love her.
- 12:57SPEAKER_01: She was like, Oh my god, you guys said the Persian.
- 13:00SPEAKER_01: You just called her out.
- 13:01SPEAKER_01: She's cool.
- 13:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 13:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah, she's cool.
- 13:03SPEAKER_01: Uh she was like, you guys called it the Persian golf.
- 13:06SPEAKER_01: She's like, girl, just wait.
- 13:07SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, no, it's gonna be fine.
- 13:09SPEAKER_01: And then literally, once the comments started coming in, all the Arabs just went.
- 13:14SPEAKER_01: And then there was a fight.
- 13:15SPEAKER_01: I was so close to turning off the comments.
- 13:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 13:17SPEAKER_01: Because the the there was that's the thing that bugs me.
- 13:19SPEAKER_01: Like, I love engagement, but I just want people to be nice.
- 13:22SPEAKER_01: But you said you said Arabian golf too.
- 13:24SPEAKER_01: You didn't just say per you said Persian or Arabian golf, depending on yeah, and it's not just that.
- 13:28SPEAKER_02: And honestly, guys, I literally said in the comments, I'm like, this was just for fun.
- 13:32SPEAKER_02: Everybody needs to simmer down.
- 13:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but people take it to a whole other extreme, so much for being uh non-political, exactly.
- 13:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but whatever.
- 13:40SPEAKER_01: Um, uh, that that whole thing pissed off a lot of people in more than one way.
- 13:44SPEAKER_01: It wasn't just the Persian Gulf or the Arabian Gulf.
- 13:47SPEAKER_01: A lot of people were mad that we considered North African countries Arab.
- 13:53SPEAKER_02: Okay, and then it's not just that North African countries Arab, and then a lot of people are like, You forgot this country, you forgot this country.
- 13:58SPEAKER_02: Clearly, it's a trivia question.
- 14:00SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and she's like if I was on Jeopardy, I probably would have forgotten some.
- 14:03SPEAKER_02: So it's just weird to me that people are like, oh my god, you forgot this place.
- 14:08SPEAKER_02: You're always forgetting this.
- 14:09SPEAKER_02: I'm like, always.
- 14:10SPEAKER_02: It's the first time I do this freaking trivia question.
- 14:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 14:13SPEAKER_01: And then um, like uh the then you have people saying, Well, why are we not?
- 14:18SPEAKER_01: Aren't blacks Arab?
- 14:19SPEAKER_01: I'm just like, I'm confused.
- 14:21SPEAKER_01: Me too.
- 14:21SPEAKER_01: Like, you know, you have the North Africans mad because they're saying, well, we're we're African, we're not Arab.
- 14:26SPEAKER_01: And I respect that.
- 14:26SPEAKER_01: That's great.
- 14:27SPEAKER_01: Any which way and I made a comment on another video.
- 14:29SPEAKER_01: I was like, listen, uh, with with the Ahmad video about the most beautiful woman, and he said Arab woman, and he said Morocco, and oh my god.
- 14:37SPEAKER_01: My whole thing is like, this is a question, this is this guy's opinion of what he specifically finds is.
- 14:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 14:44SPEAKER_01: But that's not even we'll get to that later.
- 14:46SPEAKER_01: I'm talking about the North African thing and Moroccan, and I and I get that, and I respect that.
- 14:50SPEAKER_01: Listen, if you're African, Amaz, whatever it is, or Arab, and what I respond to this person, I'm like, listen, whatever you identify as, dude, that's great.
- 14:58SPEAKER_01: We're just saying Moroccans are beautiful.
- 15:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 15:01SPEAKER_01: Like whether you're Arab, African, Amaz, whichever if you're Arab, African, butter butter, whatever, it's you're beautiful.
- 15:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you know, so um that's that's one you know what I have to say to that?
- 15:11SPEAKER_01: What?
- 15:12SPEAKER_02: Oh my Allah, people are so strange.
- 15:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 15:14SPEAKER_01: Um, now, the Ahmad situation with the most beautiful Arab woman video.
- 15:20SPEAKER_01: Here is this poor guy.
- 15:21SPEAKER_02: First of all, he is Lena's colleague at work.
- 15:23SPEAKER_02: Yeah, he's such a nice guy.
- 15:24SPEAKER_02: And he is very like lighthearted.
- 15:26SPEAKER_02: He's a regular guest, obviously.
- 15:27SPEAKER_02: And he's a huge supporter of the work that we're doing and of the podcast, and we love him for that.
- 15:31SPEAKER_02: Um, and so Lena sometimes will just like ask him funny questions, and you'll see him all over TikTok and stuff.
- 15:37SPEAKER_02: And yeah, do people really love interacting with this content?
- 15:40SPEAKER_02: Because he's you can feel the good vibes like through your phone.
- 15:43SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 15:44SPEAKER_02: He's cool.
- 15:44SPEAKER_02: He's a cool guy.
- 15:45SPEAKER_02: So Lena decided to ask him, in his opinion, who are the most literally.
- 15:50SPEAKER_02: This was supposed to be fun.
- 15:52SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 15:52SPEAKER_02: You know, who are the most beautiful women, like Arab women that he like in his opinion, who are the most beautiful Arab women.
- 15:58SPEAKER_02: Let me tell you, the Lebanese did not come in at number one, and they could not stand the fact that they were number one.
- 16:07SPEAKER_02: But the worst part was the other Arab Americans or Arabs in the comments hating on the Lebanese for feeling that way.
- 16:14SPEAKER_02: And I'm like, okay, that's not cool either.
- 16:16SPEAKER_02: Like, yeah, and I will look, I will agree.
- 16:18SPEAKER_02: Like, I think Lebanese women are beautiful, I think Syrian women are beautiful, I think Palestinian women are beautiful, Egyptian women.
- 16:24SPEAKER_02: I think all women are beautiful.
- 16:25SPEAKER_02: Everybody has something different to bring, but we were asking his opinion.
- 16:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I just want to share one of these like obnoxious comments.
- 16:32SPEAKER_01: This person, I'm not gonna put his name out there, but he says, Who is that about Ahmed?
- 16:38SPEAKER_01: And who is he who is asking him?
- 16:40SPEAKER_01: I was asking him.
- 16:40SPEAKER_01: Is that a problem?
- 16:42SPEAKER_01: Uh dude, just shut up and go look in the mirror before you indulge us with your opinions.
- 16:46SPEAKER_01: And I and I responded to this person because the minute anyone attacked him, I deleted that comment because I'm not about that.
- 16:52SPEAKER_01: Like he's nice enough to be to actually uh uh record this video with us, and he was nice enough to put to agree to put it on our page.
- 17:00SPEAKER_01: And if anyone's gonna come after him, that's that's a that's a red line for me.
- 17:04SPEAKER_01: So I I responded to this guy and I'm like, he didn't insult anyone.
- 17:07SPEAKER_01: I don't know why you're insulting him.
- 17:08SPEAKER_01: Uh it's just an opinion and it's for fun.
- 17:10SPEAKER_01: And that's what, like, don't don't attack people.
- 17:13SPEAKER_01: And I'm not trying to hear, like, I'm not trying to rugby people on social media.
- 17:16SPEAKER_01: I'm not trying to like tell you how to behave, but like, don't be rude.
- 17:19SPEAKER_01: If you're gonna come at a friend of mine, your ass is gonna get deleted or blocked.
- 17:24SPEAKER_02: I agree.
- 17:24SPEAKER_02: Like, look, Lisa and I do this we do this for a good time, and the whole point is to find other people who want to be in on the good time.
- 17:31SPEAKER_02: The last thing I need is somebody who is not who's like going against the grain of that.
- 17:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and then and then going back to the Lebanese getting like really hurt about not being picked number one.
- 17:43SPEAKER_01: I thought it was kind of cute.
- 17:44SPEAKER_01: It was funny, um, it was really funny, and but some of the comments were kind of messed up too against the Lebanese, so like I get it.
- 17:51SPEAKER_01: But like, I thought that was so upsetting though.
- 17:53SPEAKER_01: But you guys won in other categories that we did.
- 17:55SPEAKER_01: You had food, you got food, dialect, dialect, and then that's the thing.
- 17:59SPEAKER_01: Like, someone was saying about the dialect.
- 18:01SPEAKER_01: Um hold on, where is it?
- 18:04SPEAKER_01: Uh they're like, let me guess you're Lebanese.
- 18:10SPEAKER_01: So I responded like neither one of us is Lebanese, you know.
- 18:12SPEAKER_01: But yeah, we like I like the Lebanese dialect.
- 18:14SPEAKER_01: I mean, everybody's great, guys.
- 18:16SPEAKER_01: You guys all have all Arab countries or North African countries or whichever way you want it, everybody's beautiful.
- 18:23SPEAKER_02: Like, honestly, that is a huge part of like both of our identities, is like being Arab American.
- 18:27SPEAKER_02: And I love the fact that like, you know, she brings things from her, yeah, you know, from her, from her like language, dialect, culture.
- 18:34SPEAKER_02: I do the same thing, and it's like a mishmash of all these awesome things, and it's like a whole other, you know, it's celebrating like what makes us yeah, and we're not we're not trying to lecture anybody here, yeah.
- 18:43SPEAKER_01: We're just talking about our experiences with this social media.
- 18:46SPEAKER_02: But I hate the hate.
- 18:48SPEAKER_02: Like I think it's so unnecessary.
- 18:50SPEAKER_02: And honestly, like this is we're like a we have not made it big time.
- 18:54SPEAKER_02: Oh my god.
- 18:55SPEAKER_02: What's gonna happen when we actually, you know, we're we keep pushing through.
- 18:59SPEAKER_02: When we get more than like 10 subscribers or something.
- 19:02SPEAKER_01: No, we have more than 10 subscribers.
- 19:03SPEAKER_01: I know, I'm joking.
- 19:03SPEAKER_01: That's joking.
- 19:04SPEAKER_01: But you know, like yeah.
- 19:09SPEAKER_02: That's amazing.
- 19:10SPEAKER_02: Lena basically was like, oh no, we're just gonna go with 10 because we don't want anybody's evil eye.
- 19:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah, trust me, we've been getting some evil eye.
- 19:16SPEAKER_02: Let me not even get into that.
- 19:18SPEAKER_02: But that my whole thing is like this is really just supposed to be like for fun content.
- 19:23SPEAKER_02: And like we're the whole reason we started this is because we enjoy talking to each other, and we just thought like you guys would love to.
- 19:29SPEAKER_01: Talk to us about like look but as Arabs and Arab Americans or just Arabs in general, like we have enough crap going on in our lives.
- 19:36SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and I think that like I don't want, like, I'm I I can be very political.
- 19:41SPEAKER_01: Like, my job is political.
- 19:42SPEAKER_01: I'm Palestinian, so my job isn't by default, I'm in tune with all that stuff.
- 19:47SPEAKER_01: But at the end of the day, I sometimes want to detach myself from that, and I have the luxury, I know like it's a privilege, but like I wanna listen to something or talk about something that's not always so 100% like depressing or gloomy, you know.
- 20:02SPEAKER_01: And this is the kind of space we want to create, yeah, here, yeah, you know.
- 20:05SPEAKER_01: Um, another thing, we get some like haram police comments, okay?
- 20:10SPEAKER_01: Like, FYI, there is no Arab nor Islam in this video.
- 20:14SPEAKER_01: Like for Lena and I.
- 20:15SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 20:16SPEAKER_02: Like we're not Arab and we're not Muslim.
- 20:17SPEAKER_02: Yeah, like you just decided from this like 20-second TikTok that me and Lena are not Arab.
- 20:23SPEAKER_02: Lena and I are not Muslim.
- 20:24SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 20:25SPEAKER_02: Tell us you made the decision that neither of us are Muslim.
- 20:29SPEAKER_01: Like, how does that even work?
- 20:30SPEAKER_01: He invalidated our Arabness and our and our Muslimness.
- 20:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah, exactly.
- 20:35SPEAKER_01: Like, exactly.
- 20:36SPEAKER_01: And someone actually hearted his comment.
- 20:38SPEAKER_01: Like, I think that's after.
- 20:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 20:40SPEAKER_01: Like, someone can be stupid, but not you know, whatever.
- 20:43SPEAKER_02: Someone's like, Okay, yeah, I agree.
- 20:44SPEAKER_01: You did such a good job.
- 20:45SPEAKER_01: Okay, so the the other thing we got some comments on was the the video about um our Arab woman submissive.
- 20:53SPEAKER_00: Oh okay.
- 20:54SPEAKER_01: And this person says, I don't think this is a dumb question.
- 20:58SPEAKER_01: Uh, like someone was asking, like, you know, she's she's responding.
- 21:01SPEAKER_02: She's responding to our Arab women submissive, and she said, I don't think it's a dumb question.
- 21:05SPEAKER_01: Lots of Arab women are submissive or expected to be.
- 21:08SPEAKER_01: Why are we pretending that it's not true?
- 21:10SPEAKER_01: Do you want to risk because I responded.
- 21:12SPEAKER_02: I mean, honestly, that my whole thing is like I don't know who expects like I don't know what every Arab woman being raised in America and outside of America and wherever in the world, what the expectations that are put in front of her of her family.
- 21:26SPEAKER_02: Are some women raised to be submissive?
- 21:29SPEAKER_02: Yes, but that has nothing to do with your Arab-ness, okay?
- 21:32SPEAKER_02: It has nothing to do with just being Arab.
- 21:34SPEAKER_02: That's across all cultures, by the way.
- 21:35SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it really depends on where you are in the world.
- 21:38SPEAKER_01: I think the issue is we're not all a monolith.
- 21:40SPEAKER_01: We have different uh backgrounds, different uh uh stories, you know, experiences.
- 21:45SPEAKER_01: Women in general, not just Arabic.
- 21:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 21:47SPEAKER_01: So you can't lump people into certain categories or into a and put them into this like box that hey, we all fall under the same thing.
- 21:54SPEAKER_02: Yeah, but if you ask asking each other that question, knowing her background, knowing my background.
- 22:00SPEAKER_02: Background, I don't agree that Arab women are submissive.
- 22:02SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 22:02SPEAKER_02: I have a lot of Arab friends, and none of them are submissive.
- 22:05SPEAKER_02: They're all very high powered individuals who are excellent at their jobs, who are, you know, have amazing families and they're excellent mothers.
- 22:13SPEAKER_02: So, like, going based on my experience, which is how I answered this question, no, I don't agree.
- 22:20SPEAKER_02: And so, you like watching some of this content sometime, like I said, it's supposed to be fun.
- 22:24SPEAKER_02: Like, I don't expect for people to agree with me or with Lena or with the both of us, but I certainly do not agree or respect somebody invalidating our our ethnicity and our religion, right?
- 22:39SPEAKER_02: I do not respect somebody going in the comments section and you know, belittling and degrading an entire population of people like they did with the Lebanese in that in that one.
- 22:49SPEAKER_02: That was so unnecessary.
- 22:50SPEAKER_02: That was so rude.
- 22:52SPEAKER_02: And then I do not and will not stand for somebody coming in and cursing out and belittling a friend of ours that's doing something for fun with us, right?
- 23:03SPEAKER_02: Like, all of that like sucks.
- 23:04SPEAKER_02: So, you know, it's whatever.
- 23:06SPEAKER_02: It comes with the territory, I get that.
- 23:08SPEAKER_01: Absolutely, yeah.
- 23:09SPEAKER_01: But we're just talking about because we we we saw like nine out of 10 times I'm laughing.
- 23:13SPEAKER_01: I'm like, these people are just like, it's it's it's funny.
- 23:16SPEAKER_02: It really gets under my skin.
- 23:17SPEAKER_02: But it gets on my nerves.
- 23:19SPEAKER_01: Penan takes it a little bit, you take it differently than I do.
- 23:21SPEAKER_01: For me, I'm like, hey, it's more engagement.
- 23:22SPEAKER_01: Great, keep commenting.
- 23:23SPEAKER_01: That's how I do it.
- 23:24SPEAKER_01: You don't take it just as more.
- 23:25SPEAKER_01: Um I would rather not have this engagement, but I would have a positive skin.
- 23:28SPEAKER_01: No, no, but I will say this I draw the line at personal attacks.
- 23:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 23:32SPEAKER_01: That for me is I will I will delete that.
- 23:34SPEAKER_01: Oh, and the other thing, speaking of delete and block.
- 23:37SPEAKER_01: You know, there's two things, two types of comments I will delete is you attacking Hanan, myself, or Ahmad.
- 23:43SPEAKER_01: And the other one is when you come in here and say Palestine is not a country.
- 23:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's gonna get deleted because it is a country, whether you like it or not.
- 23:52SPEAKER_01: And like I said, I don't want to.
- 23:53SPEAKER_01: She's a Palestinian, in case you were wondering.
- 23:55SPEAKER_01: She's a whole human.
- 23:57SPEAKER_01: But she's a whole human.
- 23:58SPEAKER_02: You are by you saying that this country doesn't exist, you're in literally invalidating.
- 24:03SPEAKER_02: Right existed.
- 24:03SPEAKER_01: So I will delete them because I'm not gonna engage with people like that, you know.
- 24:06SPEAKER_01: And you shouldn't have to.
- 24:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I'm not gonna engage.
- 24:08SPEAKER_01: I'm not gonna let people that actually like our content and follow us have to see this kind of nonsense.
- 24:13SPEAKER_02: And on top of that, to be completely honest with you, for me, that is like negativity, and this space is positive, and the space is apolitical.
- 24:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but the people doing that, you know, these, you know, uh people coming in saying Palestine is not a country, or oh yeah, why there's only 21 areas, like, you know, they always come into the comments and I'm like, this isn't your space.
- 24:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah, like if you want to come in and you want to learn, great.
- 24:33SPEAKER_01: I have no problem.
- 24:34SPEAKER_01: You don't have to be Arab, you don't have to be anything.
- 24:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you want to learn, a halusahla.
- 24:39SPEAKER_01: You're welcome to do that, but don't be obnoxious or offensive.
- 24:41SPEAKER_01: And like there's some things that I don't go, there's certain pages I don't go to because it doesn't relate to me.
- 24:46SPEAKER_01: Or you know what?
- 24:47SPEAKER_01: I don't agree with it.
- 24:48SPEAKER_01: These people coming in, and by these people, you know who I'm talking about.
- 24:52SPEAKER_01: These people coming in.
- 24:53SPEAKER_00: Trolls.
- 24:54SPEAKER_01: No, no, no.
- 24:54SPEAKER_01: There's a specific kind of troll who comes in to say, Oh, Palestine is not a country.
- 24:58SPEAKER_01: Yes, it is, okay.
- 24:59SPEAKER_01: But like these people like either say something nice or just don't come in on it.
- 25:03SPEAKER_01: But sometimes it's not true.
- 25:04SPEAKER_02: Like, but sometimes it's not just those people, sometimes it's you know, misguided people.
- 25:08SPEAKER_02: No, no, misguided, misinformed.
- 25:10SPEAKER_01: I know, but like this is why do you always have to be part of the conversation when you're not?
- 25:15SPEAKER_01: Because that's just you know that's what's that's what irritates me about these kind of uh people that come in and say that stuff.
- 25:21SPEAKER_02: Yeah, but but it's like, and I fully understand that it's again, again, for me, like when you come in and say Palestine is not a country, you are invalidating an entire population of people, which is wrong to do too.
- 25:32SPEAKER_02: Again, I repeat, this is an apolitical space.
- 25:34SPEAKER_02: Like, I am not here for if if I if this was a political discussion, maybe I would give it a little bit more time and energy.
- 25:42SPEAKER_02: No, not even the goal for this, no, not not that comment, but politics in general, okay.
- 25:48SPEAKER_02: But the point of us doing this is to have a good time.
- 25:51SPEAKER_02: Politics is never a good time.
- 25:52SPEAKER_01: I don't know if anybody's, you know, they're I mean, listen, sometimes we are forced, sometimes there's certain things happening in our lives, yes, and we have to talk about something.
- 25:59SPEAKER_01: Absolutely, but like this, for example, I wanted to talk, and I know it's a little political, but whatever.
- 26:03SPEAKER_01: Don't come in my on my account, on my TikTok account, or shorts, YouTube, wherever it is, and say Palestine doesn't exist.
- 26:10SPEAKER_01: And you know what?
- 26:10SPEAKER_02: If you say that, you know what we're gonna say to you?
- 26:12SPEAKER_02: We're gonna say what, Lena?
- 26:13SPEAKER_02: Yeah, we're gonna say it all.
- 26:14SPEAKER_02: Let's easy.
- 26:15SPEAKER_02: Exactly.
- 26:16SPEAKER_02: So yeah, I'm not gonna stand for it.
- 26:18SPEAKER_02: I am someone who works really hard to stay in a positive mindset.
- 26:22SPEAKER_02: We could do a whole other episode on being anxiety ridden and trying to stay positive.
- 26:27SPEAKER_02: So the last thing I need is somebody coming in and telling me like how I need to live my life.
- 26:31SPEAKER_02: So if this comes off as uh me lecturing, lecturing, sorry.
- 26:36SPEAKER_01: So be it.
- 26:37SPEAKER_01: Actually, sorry, not sorry.
- 26:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 26:39SPEAKER_01: Um, but I I did want to say just to end it off on a funny note, uh, the comment.
- 26:43SPEAKER_01: We got a comment saying, Oh my god, you guys are so funny.
- 26:46SPEAKER_01: You should be a podcast.
- 26:47SPEAKER_02: That was the cutest.
- 26:48SPEAKER_02: I so love that because you could see the person in the comment being so excited for us.
- 26:53SPEAKER_02: I know, right?
- 26:53SPEAKER_02: And like really interacting.
- 26:55SPEAKER_02: And the person was like, Oh my god, I love this.
- 26:57SPEAKER_02: You guys are so funny.
- 26:58SPEAKER_02: Be a podcast.
- 26:59SPEAKER_02: Lena was like, We are a podcast.
- 27:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I know, I know.
