- 0:00Speaker 1: You might have money, he's securing your bomb.
- 0:03Speaker 2: That's known on it.
- 0:07Speaker 3: You can be birth, but to me, that's not up.
- 0:10Speaker 3: You're a paper tugger. Day can be famous friends in pleas.
- 0:18Speaker 2: So I'm Embie Marshall. The song I've got coming out
- 0:22Speaker 2: is called like a Man or flam as you call it,
- 0:25Speaker 2: which sounds like getting punched in the face in the
- 0:26Speaker 2: comic book. That sounds and I think that this song.
- 0:31Speaker 2: People keep asking me, what does the song sound like?
- 0:33Speaker 2: I would say, imagine John Cena being thrown through a
- 0:37Speaker 2: table by Dolly Parton and then Nicol Back comes in.
- 0:40Speaker 2: There's a royal rumble, and then hul Cogan comes in
- 0:43Speaker 2: and just bashes them.
- 0:44Speaker 3: All in their head.
- 0:45Speaker 2: That's kind of what I want to say about this song.
- 0:47Speaker 2: It's kind of it's wrestling. It's there's women in it,
- 0:50Speaker 2: there's guys in it, there's fighting in it. There's so
- 0:51Speaker 2: much going on. It's a yeah and at the end
- 0:55Speaker 2: there's a hell yeah. Because I love Stone Cold Steve
- 0:56Speaker 2: Louston and I think he should be in everything, so
- 0:59Speaker 2: you know that. I just I love it. For me,
- 1:01Speaker 2: it's a combination of lots of different things and all
- 1:04Speaker 2: parts of people's personalities and it has a sense of humor.
- 1:06Speaker 2: It doesn't take yourself too seriously and I want everyone
- 1:09Speaker 2: to dance and go yeh do it too.
- 1:11Speaker 4: No, it's a lot to expect from people for one song,
- 1:13Speaker 4: but I reckon you go.
- 1:16Speaker 2: About this. I hope you like my song. Is that better?
- 1:20Speaker 4: That's more proper? Thanks to join us today. It's a
- 1:25Speaker 4: pleasure to make your aquaintance.
- 1:28Speaker 2: It's a pleasure to make and see Yeah, it's a
- 1:29Speaker 2: pleasure to make your acquaintance and see your next Tuesday. Yeah.
- 1:34Speaker 4: So the track like a Man did come out a
- 1:36Speaker 4: little while back. So how was the reception for it?
- 1:39Speaker 2: It's been amazing so for in the first the pre
- 1:42Speaker 2: teaser that I put out on social media got over
- 1:43Speaker 2: half a million views, and I love that that people
- 1:47Speaker 2: were really connecting with the song, the words, the lyrics
- 1:50Speaker 2: I think has a bit of shock value to it.
- 1:52Speaker 2: But I was like, it's because people are really wanting
- 1:54Speaker 2: music like this. Now I'm finding it's I didn't write
- 1:57Speaker 2: it to be popular. I didn't write it to because
- 1:59Speaker 2: I wanted any to react to it. I wrote it
- 2:01Speaker 2: because I just really freaking needed to say it. And yeah,
- 2:07Speaker 2: the response has been really good. I mean I sang
- 2:09Speaker 2: it live the other night in Hollywood, and I kind
- 2:11Speaker 2: of watched the crowd and I saw a girl go
- 2:15Speaker 2: it was the first time she like hid behind her husband,
- 2:18Speaker 2: like it was really scary to her. And then at
- 2:20Speaker 2: the end she was like at the front, because when
- 2:22Speaker 2: you're confronting you know. Yeah, richid good.
- 2:28Speaker 4: So you mentioned the fact that the teasier release had
- 2:31Speaker 4: half a million views on social media before the song
- 2:33Speaker 4: was So was that a clever marketing campaign or was
- 2:35Speaker 4: it just lucky?
- 2:39Speaker 2: It's a really good question. I don't believe in luck.
- 2:42Speaker 2: And obviously there's a team of people. We're all pushing
- 2:45Speaker 2: it and we know what we're kind of doing, and
- 2:46Speaker 2: I surround myself with very good people. I just think
- 2:49Speaker 2: we've got a really good hook and I think that matters.
- 2:53Speaker 2: And I think when people are putting this song out,
- 2:55Speaker 2: they just go, hope you like my song. But you know,
- 2:57Speaker 2: I've worked really hard to find the people that know
- 3:00Speaker 2: how to make really hooky, strong, light songs. And that's
- 3:05Speaker 2: taken me a long time to get here. And it's
- 3:06Speaker 2: been working with people like what We're seen and Brian Howse,
- 3:09Speaker 2: who masters at songwriting, to get to understand what people
- 3:13Speaker 2: care about and what connects to people. So yeah, it's
- 3:17Speaker 2: not an accident.
- 3:19Speaker 4: I could tell us a more about the song, first
- 3:22Speaker 4: musically and then what it's actually about. Like I could
- 3:24Speaker 4: try and pick it apart from what I heard, but I
- 3:26Speaker 4: want to hear what you wrote it about.
- 3:28Speaker 2: I would love to hear what you think it's about
- 3:31Speaker 2: after you ladies first, Okay, well, thank you very much.
- 3:34Speaker 2: You can't call me that, just remember that. So it's
- 3:39Speaker 2: not really about anything. So I'll tell the story. So
- 3:43Speaker 2: I was my partner was away. I was at home
- 3:47Speaker 2: and I was writing an album and all I remember
- 3:49Speaker 2: was cooking and I was really bored, and I was
- 3:51Speaker 2: writing an album at the same time, and then I
- 3:53Speaker 2: was walking around. I'm in the writing process. So when
- 3:55Speaker 2: you're a writer, you write songs. Yeah, you've written songs.
- 3:59Speaker 2: You write songs, of course we will. That's what we
- 4:01Speaker 2: songwriters or peers. When you're in the writing precess and
- 4:04Speaker 2: you have to write something, the process is usually ship
- 4:08Speaker 2: I got to write something. So you know that your
- 4:10Speaker 2: brain's looking for ideas and it's looking for things everywhere.
- 4:13Speaker 2: While you're going through that process. Then all of a sudden,
- 4:16Speaker 2: your mind's cleared for two minutes and boom, and I
- 4:19Speaker 2: just got this like a man, just sort of and
- 4:23Speaker 2: I was like, well, that's amazing. And then I just
- 4:24Speaker 2: wrote it down, but it was like a man, and
- 4:26Speaker 2: I was like, oh, I started there, and then I
- 4:31Speaker 2: just got my guitar and then I played four chords
- 4:33Speaker 2: and I was like, yep, I got it. That's that's
- 4:35Speaker 2: what I want to say. And I took it to
- 4:36Speaker 2: my producer and he was like, I don't know, and
- 4:41Speaker 2: I was like, come on, and he was like yeah,
- 4:42Speaker 2: all right. So yeah, it was a team thing, and
- 4:45Speaker 2: it was like a you know, I was really certain
- 4:47Speaker 2: of what I wanted to say, yeah, and so really
- 4:50Speaker 2: the rest sort of filled in itself, like the grid
- 4:52Speaker 2: kind of filled in. After I knew what I wanted
- 4:53Speaker 2: to say. The rest of the song sort of fell
- 4:55Speaker 2: into place. I didn't try to write it, if that
- 4:57Speaker 2: makes sense.
- 4:58Speaker 4: Like it did so strong, powerful song and it would
- 5:01Speaker 4: caught controversy into some circles. But I like the fact
- 5:04Speaker 4: that that you've owned it, and like everything I've read
- 5:06Speaker 4: about you and everything I've seen about you, you haven't watched
- 5:08Speaker 4: shied away from the fact that you can do and
- 5:11Speaker 4: say whatever the fuck you, like at the end of
- 5:13Speaker 4: the day, you know, like it in this day and age,
- 5:15Speaker 4: it's beautiful to see someone so willing to stand behind
- 5:19Speaker 4: their art. I guess, thanks so much.
- 5:21Speaker 2: And even to the point where thank you that means
- 5:23Speaker 2: a lot, Even to the point where we have you know,
- 5:27Speaker 2: women who who first of you will go oh and
- 5:30Speaker 2: then come up to you later and go, I love you.
- 5:32Speaker 2: You know what I mean. So it's it's nice because
- 5:34Speaker 2: it's I really care about women, I really want I
- 5:37Speaker 2: really really love women. I love men, and I love
- 5:39Speaker 2: women and whatever you want to be called, I love you.
- 5:41Speaker 2: But like for me to have a woman come up
- 5:43Speaker 2: to me and give me a hug and say thanks,
- 5:45Speaker 2: that was awesome. That means a lot. Yeah, especially when
- 5:48Speaker 2: there's not a lot of female fronted rock bands writing
- 5:53Speaker 2: songs for women. You know, it's some Yeah, I liking
- 5:56Speaker 2: it too, that kind of rolling their eyes first through.
- 5:59Speaker 2: How did a gig the other night and a guy
- 6:00Speaker 2: walked up to me afterwards and he goes, he's from
- 6:02Speaker 2: Texas and he said, I don't know, I don't know
- 6:05Speaker 2: about that like a man song. I go, why he
- 6:09Speaker 2: was one of my mask bowls to do.
- 6:10Speaker 4: If you're in a one fucking like a Man enough
- 6:14Speaker 4: you would have lost your shit.
- 6:17Speaker 2: I don't know, You're just gonna have to work harder.
- 6:21Speaker 4: It's actually good to you in the respect that, like
- 6:23Speaker 4: a lot of people take music on face value, and
- 6:25Speaker 4: if you just read the name of that song, fuck
- 6:27Speaker 4: like a Man, you'd think that, like a lot of
- 6:30Speaker 4: people wouldn't get into it just by that. But if
- 6:32Speaker 4: you do listen to it and you get through to
- 6:34Speaker 4: the end, you realize there's a lot more to it
- 6:36Speaker 4: than just a sexual gesture.
- 6:39Speaker 2: Yeah, and I think it's more just yeah, it's about
- 6:43Speaker 2: stop it. Because there's a line in the song that
- 6:45Speaker 2: I don't like that my producer actually wrote and I
- 6:48Speaker 2: don't like it. I don't like it. At the start,
- 6:49Speaker 2: I love it, everyone loves it. Now I hated it
- 6:52Speaker 2: and it was wait, won't bake your brownies? And I
- 6:54Speaker 2: said to him, I hate that line. He's like, and
- 6:57Speaker 2: I'm like, I hate it. No, it's good. It's good.
- 7:00Speaker 2: And then when I sing it, I'm like, oh, but
- 7:03Speaker 2: it makes sense. Like what I was trying to say
- 7:05Speaker 2: was I'm not going to fry it in a pan.
- 7:07Speaker 2: I'm not going to fry it in a pan. I'm
- 7:09Speaker 2: not doing your lawndry. I'm gonna not let the boys
- 7:11Speaker 2: have all the farm. Let's go, I'm gonna I can
- 7:13Speaker 2: do this. Blah blah blah, let's go. Let's go girls.
- 7:16Speaker 2: It's kind of like Chania Twain's man, I feel like
- 7:19Speaker 2: a woman for today. And I didn't like that line
- 7:23Speaker 2: and I love it now though, because it makes sense
- 7:25Speaker 2: to me. But that's why you're going to collaborate with smart,
- 7:27Speaker 2: good people that get you. Because he was kind of like, oh,
- 7:30Speaker 2: you don't like that, and I'm like, oh, so it's
- 7:33Speaker 2: a battle of wheels the songwriting process, which I love
- 7:36Speaker 2: to do.
- 7:37Speaker 4: You know what, I thought that line was abouder got
- 7:39Speaker 4: ampletely wrong. I want you talking about a Dutch Oven.
- 7:48Speaker 2: No, I'm not saying I didn't write a song about
- 7:49Speaker 2: a dirty Sanchez and put it out. Thank you, Thank
- 7:53Speaker 2: you magazine have awesome media skills. No, it's actually just
- 7:59Speaker 2: literally about It's literal, it's about baking brownie. So it's
- 8:02Speaker 2: just a woman saying I'm not baking your brownies. I'm
- 8:04Speaker 2: not doing your laundry, I'm not frying shit up in
- 8:06Speaker 2: a pan. Stopped telling me to act like a woman.
- 8:09Speaker 2: So that's the gimmick. But that's who I am, because
- 8:13Speaker 2: you know, we're still very much in a you can't
- 8:15Speaker 2: even say this anymore, can you? I can? Yeah, male
- 8:18Speaker 2: dominated society, you know, and it is the it is.
- 8:22Speaker 2: There are a lot of gender roles going on. So
- 8:25Speaker 2: this song is not about women, it's not about men.
- 8:27Speaker 2: It's about quality. It's about us all just having a
- 8:30Speaker 2: good time, no matter who what the gender is. You know,
- 8:32Speaker 2: we should all be able to raise a fist in
- 8:33Speaker 2: the air, raise a beer in the air, and go.
- 8:37Speaker 4: Damn straight, damn straight. Now, you released a single first,
- 8:40Speaker 4: and then the video came out a few weeks later,
- 8:43Speaker 4: so it's not because did you have to run the
- 8:45Speaker 4: video by the censorship board before you put.
- 8:47Speaker 2: It out yet? So the teasers have come out in
- 8:50Speaker 2: the video, we're still waiting for the video to come out.
- 8:52Speaker 2: So there is a premiere. There was sitting there, so
- 8:55Speaker 2: we've got it's just waiting. We're just waiting. It's like
- 8:59Speaker 2: a little peep show, like everything sort of comes out
- 9:01Speaker 2: over a period of time, like some artists, and I
- 9:04Speaker 2: love them for it. A concrete top content content creators.
- 9:07Speaker 2: They create so much content, always putting it out whereas
- 9:10Speaker 2: I'm more just one thing, just ride it until you know,
- 9:16Speaker 2: because there's a lot of work goes into doing these
- 9:19Speaker 2: tracks and putting them out. Yeah, so it's not out yet,
- 9:23Speaker 2: it'll be out in April, all right.
- 9:25Speaker 4: Can you tell us what it's about? What a video
- 9:27Speaker 4: for it's going to be about.
- 9:28Speaker 2: I've got two different people that directed it, so I've
- 9:30Speaker 2: got two different videos. One of them was the incredibly
- 9:34Speaker 2: talented Steve Wels. She's also in a band called Density Ruins.
- 9:36Speaker 2: He did the first the first part of it. He's
- 9:39Speaker 2: an incredible director. So Steve Welsh at the first part
- 9:42Speaker 2: Out of Deity, and Ian Ridder, who's you know, local
- 9:45Speaker 2: royalty in the scene for capturing amazing rock and roll
- 9:48Speaker 2: everything's in essence of this industry, did the second part.
- 9:51Speaker 2: So I put them together and we're about to put
- 9:54Speaker 2: it out. So one part's really really feminine and sexy
- 9:57Speaker 2: and the other parts really masculine and ballsy. And we've
- 10:00Speaker 2: two parts coming out.
- 10:00Speaker 4: So we were really fun, very cool and like a
- 10:03Speaker 4: man follows last year's single, rock Star. So are they
- 10:06Speaker 4: standalone songs or are they part of a bigger picture.
- 10:09Speaker 2: That's a really good question. So Rockstar I put out
- 10:11Speaker 2: because I was I hadn't put it out yet, and
- 10:14Speaker 2: Paulie and I did an album together and I only
- 10:16Speaker 2: put two supporter saying from the Screaming Jets. He and
- 10:18Speaker 2: I worked together on the first, my first ever EP.
- 10:22Speaker 2: We did eight nine songs together. Two of those saw
- 10:25Speaker 2: the Light of Day that was drowned and the Fire
- 10:27Speaker 2: that was in twenty twenty, so great time to release music.
- 10:30Speaker 2: And then after Pauli passed away, I was sitting on
- 10:33Speaker 2: a lot of songs and I thought to myself, I'm
- 10:35Speaker 2: going to put rock Star out and dedicate it to him.
- 10:36Speaker 2: So that's why that came out. That was actually written
- 10:40Speaker 2: three or four years before that, but I put it
- 10:42Speaker 2: out and promoted it last year while I was working
- 10:44Speaker 2: on the other stuff. So it's not a new song,
- 10:46Speaker 2: but it is a tribute to my my really dear
- 10:49Speaker 2: friends paul and he's the rock star fumy.
- 10:51Speaker 4: But what's what's going on with the albums? Are you
- 10:53Speaker 4: gonna release the album? You're right, we PAULI did to
- 10:55Speaker 4: say so.
- 10:55Speaker 2: So we just did a showcase in Los Angeles at
- 10:57Speaker 2: SO Studios for a lot of industry peace. We've got
- 11:00Speaker 2: a lot of interest in who's going to take over
- 11:02Speaker 2: that side of things for us, So very exciting times.
- 11:06Speaker 2: And we've got a really great album. It's been produced
- 11:09Speaker 2: by Brian House, mixed by Mike Fraser who did a
- 11:12Speaker 2: CDC stuff, so it's it's next level. We're so so
- 11:14Speaker 2: excited about it and that will be out when it's out,
- 11:18Speaker 2: So you know, we're just we're just doing the wedding
- 11:20Speaker 2: process right now. And yep, we've got a great management team.
- 11:24Speaker 2: They're over in Sweden, they're booking us to at the
- 11:27Speaker 2: end of the year over in Europe, so there's lots
- 11:29Speaker 2: to come.
- 11:30Speaker 4: Nice and rock star and like a man, are they
- 11:32Speaker 4: good indication of what the album's going to sound like
- 11:35Speaker 4: or are they just just a couple of small layers.
- 11:37Speaker 2: I'm a rock girl. My album is very rock centric,
- 11:41Speaker 2: so it's going to be very it's going to be
- 11:43Speaker 2: super What you hear is what you get. But at
- 11:45Speaker 2: the end of the day, I've got ADHD So I'm
- 11:48Speaker 2: going to have rap, I'm going to have country, I'm
- 11:50Speaker 2: going to have metal, I'm going to have rock. But
- 11:53Speaker 2: the heart of it is always me being this rock pig,
- 11:56Speaker 2: So around that is going to be a variety of
- 11:59Speaker 2: of yeah, different sounds, but at the heart of it
- 12:02Speaker 2: is a very guitar centric heavy rocks out.
- 12:05Speaker 4: Ye and you just mentioned actually the year off to
- 12:08Speaker 4: Europe this year, So what's going on there? Are you
- 12:10Speaker 4: just still on the tour or are you playing festivals?
- 12:12Speaker 2: I can't tell you yet.
- 12:13Speaker 4: I don't want to know anyway. Ah, it's only being polite.
- 12:21Speaker 2: Way to buy a magazine.
- 12:22Speaker 4: They not care whatever, But I had you felt you
- 12:26Speaker 4: thought I can't.
- 12:28Speaker 2: Well, at the end of the day, I can't say
- 12:31Speaker 2: anything because we haven't found anything yet, but we know
- 12:33Speaker 2: it's coming. Okay.
- 12:35Speaker 4: We've got about Australia or any Australian shows coming up
- 12:38Speaker 4: whe people can't catch up.
- 12:39Speaker 2: No, no, that's nothing. You're just going to have to
- 12:41Speaker 2: wait for the music video to come out. And keep
- 12:43Speaker 2: an eye on my socials and just the quality quality
- 12:49Speaker 2: line stay changed because there's lots happening after LA.
- 12:52Speaker 4: And what are you socials? Mate? Where can people go
- 12:54Speaker 4: to catch up with you?
- 12:55Speaker 2: Well, my name is Envy Marshall. There's only one except
- 12:58Speaker 2: this other guy that I follow on Twitter. Sorry, I
- 13:00Speaker 2: follow him on TikTok because he's only one other Inmvie Marshal.
- 13:02Speaker 2: In the world, and he's the only person I follow
- 13:04Speaker 2: you just and he takes I'm really annoying, but I
- 13:05Speaker 2: like all of the stories, so you can find me
- 13:08Speaker 2: really easily. If you look up any marshall, you might
- 13:11Speaker 2: have money.
- 13:12Speaker 3: You think you ain't your both. Maybe that's not a need.
- 13:17Speaker 3: You can mean both, but to me, that's not tough.
- 13:20Speaker 3: You're a paper tagger an.
- 13:24Speaker 2: You can be famous friends in our places.
- 13:27Speaker 3: It doesn't turn me on.
- 13:30Speaker 5: You don't dragon Mazarati will with come Marazi the billy.
- 13:34Speaker 3: It's all bit run.
- 13:37Speaker 5: You say you won't trust me, and then you gotta
- 13:42Speaker 5: impress me.
- 13:45Speaker 3: Hag it dirty, hag it brownies the rug like a
- 13:50Speaker 3: drag a travel won't do you an, We'll make it brownies.
- 13:55Speaker 5: So my edges are related rough, I got big care
- 14:00Speaker 5: act girls, lettle.
- 14:01Speaker 3: Plants, attitude, I drink be readily case.
- 14:05Speaker 1: Stop telling me to act like a woman when you
- 14:09Speaker 1: know that I like a man. Hell, I am hot headed,
- 14:20Speaker 1: I run ono lead and I'm I forget to call
- 14:23Speaker 1: you back. If you try to control me, manipulator moan me,
- 14:28Speaker 1: I'll drump.
- 14:29Speaker 5: You at the drop of a hat.
- 14:31Speaker 3: Oh, I drink him with my girlfriends. I don't need
- 14:34Speaker 3: your blessing.
- 14:35Speaker 1: I'll never be yonder your mom.
- 14:38Speaker 3: We always close the barn. Had to kill a cause
- 14:41Speaker 3: of shots. Now I'll tell you when I had enough.
- 14:45Speaker 3: In this page my first rodeo. You can truck to
- 14:50Speaker 3: bone man shop.
- 14:53Speaker 1: Hage dirty, hag it brown?
- 14:56Speaker 3: Yeah, I talk like I tried a truck. Won't do
- 15:00Speaker 3: your lawry? Will may pick brownies?
- 15:03Speaker 5: How my ages are a little guff? I got big
- 15:07Speaker 5: hairback girls, lellow plants, hattitude, your frank sit a bit.
- 15:13Speaker 1: I stopped telling me to back like a woman. When
- 15:17Speaker 1: you know that.
- 15:18Speaker 3: I like a man, heady.
- 15:21Speaker 5: I'll watch your mother, not your horn, not your sleve.
- 15:27Speaker 3: Alien yards on the last decision, I have the man.
