- 2:10Speaker 1: you know we're here to talk about everything. So if
- 2:13Speaker 1: you haven't seen it, made sure you go watch it.
- 2:15Speaker 1: Make sure you hit that light that subscribe that hype
- 2:17Speaker 1: on this video, and then we're gonna get right into this.
- 2:20Speaker 1: Trust falls the name of the episode. Bjsons, you're our
- 2:23Speaker 1: special guest. What did you think of it?
- 2:26Speaker 6: Man?
- 2:26Speaker 5: I loved it. I love the episode. I love will
- 2:29Speaker 5: of the series in general so far. I do have
- 2:32Speaker 5: the one gripe like we can get into it later,
- 2:35Speaker 5: but overall thoughts, I thought it was dope.
- 2:39Speaker 6: I'm enjoying this look like I hate you, buddy cop.
- 2:43Speaker 5: Aspect of the show, the mysteries, like all the new
- 2:47Speaker 5: questions that this episode raised, Like I feel like I
- 2:50Speaker 5: still don't know where this series is going, and I
- 2:52Speaker 5: love that aspect of it.
- 2:54Speaker 6: But it's like I'm locked in it's musty TV.
- 2:56Speaker 1: M far except the prospector.
- 3:00Speaker 4: Yeah, I agree that the mystery elements rationing up. Like
- 3:04Speaker 4: I've mentioned how I love mysteries and it's fun to
- 3:09Speaker 4: go from where they leave us in episode one of
- 3:12Speaker 4: like the mystery of How and like how he ended
- 3:15Speaker 4: up there in the stands to what is How actually
- 3:19Speaker 4: trying to solve in this timeline in twenty sixteen. And
- 3:22Speaker 4: I really appreciate that this episode goes in there and
- 3:26Speaker 4: including in there being like a portal dimension. So like,
- 3:30Speaker 4: I love like rationing of the fantasy, rationing of the
- 3:33Speaker 4: mystery and aliens actually being interesting in this world in Tatiana.
- 3:39Speaker 2: If we are continuing on this track, I gotta say, finally,
- 3:43Speaker 2: some delicious ff and food. I feel like they are
- 3:46Speaker 2: cooking right now. I Mean, this is Damon lindel Off
- 3:49Speaker 2: we're talking about, but it feels like they are cooking
- 3:51Speaker 2: both with story and with character and what they're doing
- 3:54Speaker 2: with the DC Cinematic universe, Like we're talking about the
- 3:57Speaker 2: TV side of things, but they're still doing it on
- 3:59Speaker 2: such a great and scale that is even hitting or
- 4:02Speaker 2: maybe even surpassing things we've seen in the theater and again,
- 4:06Speaker 2: if what we are seeing so far, if this is
- 4:08Speaker 2: to be maintained throughout the rest of this season, we
- 4:12Speaker 2: we're gonna have something real special on our hands. We
- 4:14Speaker 2: already have something very special. The fact that they have
- 4:17Speaker 2: touched on a number of notes, both like mentally, both nostalgically,
- 4:22Speaker 2: both you know, your your whatever level of comic book
- 4:25Speaker 2: knowledge you have, as well as how we consume TV,
- 4:29Speaker 2: how we consume stories and and and learn from it
- 4:32Speaker 2: like they're doing. They're doing, They're doing Zodd's work right now.
- 4:35Speaker 2: So I just I just got to say that I'm
- 4:37Speaker 2: really enjoying this and you know, they did some iconic
- 4:40Speaker 2: things this episode, so I'm happy to get into it.
- 4:42Speaker 1: Oh yeah, super a lot of comic things. I'll echo
- 4:46Speaker 1: everyone else. I think, oh iconic, well, iconic comic things
- 4:50Speaker 1: as well, so I'll echo everyone else. I thought this
- 4:53Speaker 1: was you know, and I think The Lanterns is shaping
- 4:55Speaker 1: up to be one of the best things the DC Universe,
- 4:58Speaker 1: anything DC from the d down to the DCU has
- 5:02Speaker 1: ever produced, and just one of the best superhero shows
- 5:05Speaker 1: and a really great solid TV show in general, a
- 5:09Speaker 1: great mystery show. Like Portier said, I felt like all
- 5:13Speaker 1: the mysteries got ramped up this episode. I had so
- 5:16Speaker 1: many questions. I've watched the episode a couple times now.
- 5:19Speaker 1: It was all over Reddit afterwards, and like I said,
- 5:23Speaker 1: there's a lot of like Tartanna said, a lot of
- 5:27Speaker 1: iconic stuff, but also a lot of comic stuff off top.
- 5:32Speaker 1: I want to say, because one of the commentators called
- 5:34Speaker 1: it out last week, and I didn't really think they
- 5:37Speaker 1: were going to go there, even though I did point
- 5:39Speaker 1: out like the thing that we did see in the
- 5:41Speaker 1: preview about the black lantern symbol and all that, But
- 5:45Speaker 1: one of the commentors especially said that there was some
- 5:47Speaker 1: Red Lantern connections. And personally, I always thought the Red
- 5:51Speaker 1: Landers were just a little bit goofy to just like
- 5:53Speaker 1: our rage, but there's a little bit more to them
- 5:56Speaker 1: than that. They have some dope storylines, and this episode
- 5:59Speaker 1: in particular seems to hint that the Red Lanterns might
- 6:03Speaker 1: already be in the show with the characters of Antan
- 6:07Speaker 1: and the rest of the dudes who abducted John in
- 6:09Speaker 1: this episode. So, yeah, a lot going on. But you
- 6:14Speaker 1: did have one note, BJ, so let's get right to that. Yeah, yeah,
- 6:18Speaker 1: you did have one big complaint. So let's talk about that.
- 6:22Speaker 5: Yeah, So this has been my complaint for the series
- 6:24Speaker 5: so far. Right, like John Stewart marine man, super strong
- 6:29Speaker 5: of mind, like being trained from like five to no
- 6:32Speaker 5: fear gunshots and just think through things and strategize. It
- 6:36Speaker 5: seems so out of character for him to just be
- 6:39Speaker 5: dilly dalllying with this lady, right, Like, I don't get them.
- 6:47Speaker 2: Well, I wanted to agree and offer a secondary point
- 6:51Speaker 2: of view on that towards towards but I means, is it.
- 6:54Speaker 5: Though, Yeah, because where I am, I'm like, it's there's
- 6:58Speaker 5: I mean, like exploits are exploits and we all have
- 7:00Speaker 5: we all have them, right, I don't think that's necessarily
- 7:03Speaker 5: out of character. But the pillow talking in episode two, Yes,
- 7:07Speaker 5: Like that's the part that I'm really just like, I
- 7:10Speaker 5: cannot wrap my brain around this man like knows anybody
- 7:14Speaker 5: can be an alien, knows all this stuff that's going on.
- 7:17Speaker 5: It's thinking three steps ahead most of the time, but
- 7:20Speaker 5: it's just spilling his guts to this lady. Like unless
- 7:23Speaker 5: there's some sort of outside influence, it just doesn't make
- 7:26Speaker 5: a sense to me.
- 7:27Speaker 2: Yeah, And you know, in many respects, I agree with you,
- 7:30Speaker 2: and I don't. I think John needs to recognize that
- 7:32Speaker 2: doesn't make sense his movements like that, that that's wild.
- 7:35Speaker 2: And I know you mentioned him being the marine and
- 7:37Speaker 2: you've been trained and you should know better than all this.
- 7:39Speaker 2: But there are several factors coming into play, and that's
- 7:42Speaker 2: that humanistic factor of just one, you're being a man
- 7:47Speaker 2: that like you mentioned their exploits, You're being a man.
- 7:50Speaker 2: You're gonna do what you're gonna do. Fuck anything moving
- 7:52Speaker 2: half the time, okay, whatever. Secondly, there are many elements
- 7:57Speaker 2: of John that we're starting to see through, Like this
- 7:59Speaker 2: episode showed a lot about his character or hinted towards
- 8:03Speaker 2: a lot about his character and his past and his upbringing.
- 8:06Speaker 2: That we see a lot of cracks, We see a
- 8:07Speaker 2: lot of I don't want to say weaknesses, but we
- 8:09Speaker 2: see a lot of blind spots, if you will, right,
- 8:12Speaker 2: we're seeing to your point of him wearing you know,
- 8:15Speaker 2: basically wearing his heart on his sleeve, like you said,
- 8:17Speaker 2: like he's just spilling his guts and they're just talking
- 8:20Speaker 2: and he's and you and and for me, part of
- 8:22Speaker 2: my why I laughed at that note, you may because
- 8:24Speaker 2: I agree with you he has no situational awareness, which
- 8:27Speaker 2: is also like I thought, you was a marine bro
- 8:28Speaker 2: like how'd you get jumped twice? But in the same episode,
- 8:31Speaker 2: But that notwithstanding demand, there's a level. It's so funny.
- 8:37Speaker 2: They talk about this with Hal a lot about him
- 8:39Speaker 2: being lonely and stuff. I think Jordan's sorry, I think, uh,
- 8:43Speaker 2: John rather is also a lonely guy. I think there's
- 8:47Speaker 2: a lot about him that he's very and that kind
- 8:50Speaker 2: of feeds into the military military part of it, Like
- 8:53Speaker 2: you know, he's a very lone wolf type of that guy.
- 8:55Speaker 2: Like besides the background you got, like, you don't see
- 8:58Speaker 2: him with anybody else, right, he he he doesn't assumably
- 9:02Speaker 2: he doesn't have He has brothers at least we saw
- 9:04Speaker 2: in the beginning, but where are they now? He doesn't
- 9:06Speaker 2: talk to anybody he's under training with how and that's
- 9:09Speaker 2: all you see. You don't see any other interactions of
- 9:12Speaker 2: him with anybody else. And then you happen upon this
- 9:15Speaker 2: as you say, this random woman that you pillow talking
- 9:18Speaker 2: with and you he seems to have a level of
- 9:21Speaker 2: unearned trust, if you will. But perhaps that's something that
- 9:25Speaker 2: he's he's holding on too, because it's something that he
- 9:27Speaker 2: does not have in life. I think that that's going
- 9:30Speaker 2: to continue to further as the series goes. I do
- 9:33Speaker 2: think that's a misstep on his end and that's going
- 9:35Speaker 2: to buy him in the ass by him to ask.
- 9:38Speaker 2: But it is something that they are hinting and growing
- 9:42Speaker 2: about his character, like, yes, there is some diameterrically opposed
- 9:46Speaker 2: things about who he's supposed to be versus who he
- 9:49Speaker 2: displays himself to be. And I think that's why that's
- 9:52Speaker 2: why your your mind and really jump on that and
- 9:54Speaker 2: said that didn't make sense, But there there is a
- 9:57Speaker 2: flawed aspect that they're purposefully and the Floyd dynamic that
- 10:00Speaker 2: they're purposally trying to make us understand.
- 10:04Speaker 1: Yeah, and that was even one of my questions from
- 10:06Speaker 1: the episode is because John doesn't just pillow talk with Shorty.
- 10:10Speaker 1: John also pillow talks with Antenne the alien. You know,
- 10:14Speaker 1: he gives up a lot of information in him as well.
- 10:17Speaker 1: And one of the big ones is when he says,
- 10:19Speaker 1: have you ever been deceived by someone you love? And
- 10:22Speaker 1: John says yes, So who is that? Because John hasn't
- 10:25Speaker 1: shown to love anyone really so far, Like he definitely
- 10:29Speaker 1: doesn't love how so far. Someone pointed out I don't
- 10:32Speaker 1: know if we even mentioned it last week, but when
- 10:34Speaker 1: he finds how in the future, when he finds him dead,
- 10:37Speaker 1: he's prying or he starts prying when he sees him. Yeah,
- 10:40Speaker 1: but he doesn't have that type of emotion for him now.
- 10:43Speaker 1: So it's someone who portrayed him in his past, which
- 10:47Speaker 1: my first thought is his dad, but he still is
- 10:51Speaker 1: in contact with his dad. So either he ate that,
- 10:53Speaker 1: which I can also see, and it's just something he's
- 10:56Speaker 1: holding on to, which, like you said, leads into his
- 10:58Speaker 1: feeling of loneliness and isolation, which might be why he
- 11:01Speaker 1: reaches out Shorty and why he's so willing to talk
- 11:04Speaker 1: to alien dude, and then at the end to also
- 11:08Speaker 1: you know, tell how everything.
- 11:10Speaker 2: And and one other thing I want to pint out,
- 11:12Speaker 2: like he wants to be in this world bad, Like
- 11:15Speaker 2: when I hear this world, I'm talking about that green
- 11:17Speaker 2: lantern core, the image, the the intergalacticness of it. Like
- 11:22Speaker 2: he this is all he's ever as a keep showing
- 11:26Speaker 2: that this is all he's ever been leading up to,
- 11:28Speaker 2: and he wants to be involved, right, what does you
- 11:31Speaker 2: know he got to get involved in that?
- 11:33Speaker 1: Right?
- 11:33Speaker 2: And our favorite our favorite director loves to say, yeah,
- 11:36Speaker 2: like he anything that's going to get him deeper into
- 11:40Speaker 2: that world he is going to chase essentially, So I
- 11:43Speaker 2: also see like kind of that, whether it's naive or not,
- 11:46Speaker 2: just that wanting to just dive right into it and
- 11:49Speaker 2: just be a part of it. And I mean, you
- 11:51Speaker 2: saw how he looked at the soup. He saw how
- 11:53Speaker 2: he looked at the lantern that was that was in
- 11:56Speaker 2: the mind of iconic nature, Like that was like all
- 11:59Speaker 2: my life, I wanted this.
- 12:02Speaker 5: He looked like he found his dad's letters in the
- 12:04Speaker 5: closet and.
- 12:07Speaker 2: I and I get it.
- 12:08Speaker 1: I get it.
- 12:09Speaker 2: And also and just my last point on that, like
- 12:11Speaker 2: that even speaks to what I was saying in the beginning,
- 12:13Speaker 2: just about how in high regard like this writing is
- 12:17Speaker 2: right now because even if someone like even if you
- 12:19Speaker 2: knew nothing about Green Lance, you knew nothing about the Yona,
- 12:22Speaker 2: that you felt the weight in that moment, You felt
- 12:25Speaker 2: the weight of what was going on. And just imagine,
- 12:28Speaker 2: you know, you as an outsider, you know, breaking the
- 12:30Speaker 2: fourth wall. Think about what the character is in that
- 12:33Speaker 2: moment seeing all that, Like that's insane.
- 12:36Speaker 4: Yeah, for me, I think it's really interesting, like to
- 12:39Speaker 4: set up for everything with him showing that he has
- 12:42Speaker 4: this weakness being a woman, Uh, Like he's willing to
- 12:46Speaker 4: just say whatever to her, But like you mentioned, he's
- 12:49Speaker 4: also willing to tell how exactly what the aliens you
- 12:54Speaker 4: tried to recruit him told him to, like that they
- 12:57Speaker 4: were why they were recruiting him specifically, and not how
- 12:59Speaker 4: how they just trusted how how they thought that he
- 13:01Speaker 4: just trusted hell as well. And I think it shows that,
- 13:06Speaker 4: especially when we see the preview for next episode, we're
- 13:09Speaker 4: going to get into how his relationship with his mother
- 13:12Speaker 4: and his parents allows for him to have this like
- 13:16Speaker 4: wound where he's willing to self abandon.
- 13:20Speaker 3: He's willing to like have feelings about.
- 13:24Speaker 4: Something and then kind of like ignore those feelings in
- 13:28Speaker 4: order to like do whatever he feels like doing in
- 13:31Speaker 4: the moment, like an impulse control, Like you can't quite
- 13:35Speaker 4: force himself to be disciplined about it, as I think
- 13:37Speaker 4: we're talking about him like being a marine and like
- 13:40Speaker 4: like have being trained to do whatever. I think the
- 13:43Speaker 4: idea of discipline, especially this is something that I've been
- 13:47Speaker 4: in different spaces. We've been talking about discipline and the
- 13:52Speaker 4: idea of discipline versus punishment, and how people kind of
- 13:55Speaker 4: like get those conflated, especially early on in childhood and
- 13:58Speaker 4: how your parents reinforced discipline versus punishment, And the idea
- 14:03Speaker 4: of discipline is that you like kind of hold yourself
- 14:06Speaker 4: to a standard and you know how you want to move,
- 14:09Speaker 4: and you're you control that self control. Yeah, versus punishment
- 14:14Speaker 4: is like it's countered as like discipline, like, oh, you
- 14:18Speaker 4: did something wrong, so now you have to be disciplined,
- 14:20Speaker 4: But that's not truly discipline.
- 14:21Speaker 6: That's punishment.
- 14:23Speaker 4: And so when it comes to morality and holding strong
- 14:26Speaker 4: to an ideal and holding strong to like what he
- 14:28Speaker 4: wants to do, I could see that if he has
- 14:31Speaker 4: not really involved himself in doing that work, then he's
- 14:35Speaker 4: willing to self abandon and then possibly punish himself for
- 14:40Speaker 4: it later or like kind of like have an inner
- 14:42Speaker 4: critic about like what he's going to do later.
- 14:44Speaker 3: And we haven't really.
- 14:45Speaker 4: Seen him be strong about any particular ideal yet, besides
- 14:50Speaker 4: the fact of like being part of the landing coord
- 14:52Speaker 4: we haven't really seen him like.
- 14:54Speaker 3: Stick to anything.
- 14:55Speaker 4: So I wonder if like was like not surprising because
- 14:58Speaker 4: it's like his character hasn't really been flushed out for
- 15:01Speaker 4: us to know what does he stand for outside of
- 15:04Speaker 4: like this one goal that he's gone for his whole life.
- 15:07Speaker 5: I think the one thing that it's shown that he
- 15:09Speaker 5: stands for is respect, right like you kind of see
- 15:13Speaker 5: it in his relationship with his dad. But then even
- 15:15Speaker 5: in the way he revers how like, how's I hated
- 15:19Speaker 5: you tell the guardians a thing that you just came
- 15:21Speaker 5: to hold me and he's like, no, I'll report to you,
- 15:24Speaker 5: right Like, so he's followed, he'll follow a chain of
- 15:26Speaker 5: command and he'll be forthcoming, you know, to the nth degree.
- 15:32Speaker 5: But I don't know, interestingly, just because you brought it up.
- 15:35Speaker 5: I mean, I think maybe John's got mommy issues and
- 15:38Speaker 5: that makes this stuff with this lady make more sense,
- 15:41Speaker 5: like because that seems to be what he stands on.
- 15:43Speaker 5: He he will give respect, you know, straight up. But
- 15:47Speaker 5: it seems like he craves love m.
- 15:51Speaker 3: And that's a great observation that might be exactly.
- 15:55Speaker 2: On the money too. Yeah, And when you said, when
- 15:59Speaker 2: you mentioned talking about the love and what he craves
- 16:01Speaker 2: and what he needs, I really want to mention that
- 16:04Speaker 2: bird that is in like ninety percent of the episode
- 16:08Speaker 2: and at the very end when how it was just
- 16:10Speaker 2: like do you pull that out of your subconscious?
- 16:12Speaker 3: What does that represent?
- 16:13Speaker 2: Right, Like he was kind of being funny with him,
- 16:15Speaker 2: but also being straight with him, like what is that?
- 16:17Speaker 2: And John just immediately was like, none of your business? Right,
- 16:21Speaker 2: obviously it means something.
- 16:22Speaker 1: Right.
- 16:22Speaker 2: Words are a metaphor for a lot of obvious things.
- 16:24Speaker 2: You know, you could say the most specific, which was
- 16:27Speaker 2: flight when he was just trying to learn how to fly,
- 16:28Speaker 2: and that's when it manifed, That's when it constructed.
- 16:30Speaker 3: You can talk about.
- 16:31Speaker 2: Freedom, you can talk about a lot of the typical
- 16:34Speaker 2: tropes of what birds may may represent, but it also
- 16:38Speaker 2: could represent some lost love, right something you know, whether
- 16:42Speaker 2: it's a mommy issue, whether it's an actual woman of
- 16:44Speaker 2: his past, whether it could be anybody you know of
- 16:46Speaker 2: a specific person, man, woman, or whatever. Like, I think
- 16:50Speaker 2: that that's going to be something that we also definitely
- 16:53Speaker 2: need to like think through a little bit more about
- 16:55Speaker 2: what that bird really meant throughout this episode and the
- 16:57Speaker 2: fact that he went through so much including it wasn't
- 17:01Speaker 2: torture per se, but a mental bending, a mental.
- 17:05Speaker 3: Standpature, like he torture.
- 17:07Speaker 4: He saw whatever that was was like a violent act
- 17:10Speaker 4: against and like and then yah Ann had said that
- 17:13Speaker 4: it was like a holocaust. So he's witnessed and if
- 17:15Speaker 4: you saw like indoor, whenever they did like torture tactics,
- 17:20Speaker 4: they had them listen to the sounds of like a holocaust.
- 17:23Speaker 3: It's like that's torture, You're okay.
- 17:25Speaker 2: So having that form of torture and the fact that
- 17:28Speaker 2: the man he was dealing with was just like, by
- 17:30Speaker 2: the way, you're gonna feel the effects for a little
- 17:32Speaker 2: while longer. So to have just that at the very
- 17:36Speaker 2: top of the mental stress on him, and the entire time,
- 17:39Speaker 2: the bird is still there, Like what what level what
- 17:43Speaker 2: death of subconscious you know, scarring are we talking about?
- 17:49Speaker 1: Well, that's what, like BJ said, and like you're adding
- 17:52Speaker 1: to I really think that bird also represents innocence and
- 17:57Speaker 1: like his childhood. Like people have already made the joke
- 18:00Speaker 1: White and it's you know right there John snow White. Yeah,
- 18:05Speaker 1: because he sings in the animals, he got the little
- 18:09Speaker 1: bird on his shoulder. But also in the preview, we
- 18:12Speaker 1: do see that we see the green light over baby John. Yes,
- 18:18Speaker 1: and so people are saying, and it's also hilarious, but
- 18:22Speaker 1: is it that the light where the guardians coming for
- 18:25Speaker 1: him as a baby when Avanser crashed And they're like
- 18:29Speaker 1: you know I can't take a God damn baby, go
- 18:31Speaker 1: get half or is it the I don't think that
- 18:34Speaker 1: that's hilarious, But I don't think that about this. I
- 18:36Speaker 1: think the light actually came for John Senior asked did
- 18:40Speaker 1: he fear, and he said yes, So then he went
- 18:44Speaker 1: away and that's been his whole thing. So, but it's
- 18:48Speaker 1: also John Junior. In that preview we also see him
- 18:52Speaker 1: say I already know why you're coming to recruit me.
- 18:55Speaker 1: So that means John Senior definitely knows more about the Guardian,
- 19:00Speaker 1: more about how, more about everything. But it's also seems
- 19:03Speaker 1: to be a bit of public knowledge, or more things
- 19:06Speaker 1: become public knowledge once how it comes out, because Sheriff
- 19:10Speaker 1: in this episode can google Sinestra yeah, which is wild.
- 19:14Speaker 2: I'm like, damn, she looking at with you Pitia just
- 19:15Speaker 2: like me.
- 19:16Speaker 1: Yeah, So a lot of things are becoming more public knowledge.
- 19:20Speaker 1: So how Senior having knowledge of the Guardians and people
- 19:23Speaker 1: in general, I mean, not how Senior, John Senior having
- 19:27Speaker 1: knowledge of the Guardians and people general. Having knowledge of
- 19:29Speaker 1: the Guardians doesn't seem that far fetched.
- 19:32Speaker 3: Well, I would hope it's not far fested.
- 19:33Speaker 2: And I think that's one of the points of how
- 19:35Speaker 2: they're constructing to use a pun there, but how they're
- 19:38Speaker 2: constructing this the world, the new DCU world, the new
- 19:42Speaker 2: Green Lantern world, and how it all fits in, Like
- 19:46Speaker 2: they're they're trying to make it like, like we mentioned
- 19:48Speaker 2: how this is like a more down the Earth even
- 19:50Speaker 2: though it's extraterrestrial, it's also still down on Earth at
- 19:52Speaker 2: the same time, and there's like clear connections within characters.
- 19:56Speaker 2: I mean, even within this episode, we talked to the
- 19:59Speaker 2: sheriff that she was from Gotham fucking City.
- 20:02Speaker 4: She said that you don't believe.
- 20:05Speaker 2: It's the story that she concucts. But the point is,
- 20:10Speaker 2: but if I want you, you can say what you want
- 20:11Speaker 2: to say in a minute question. But the point is
- 20:13Speaker 2: just the fact that they're integrating all this stuff, you know,
- 20:16Speaker 2: Coast City, all this other stuff, Like they're really making
- 20:18Speaker 2: it clear like this is a fully integrated world that
- 20:22Speaker 2: have the characters like live and Bleed, and I think
- 20:26Speaker 2: that's really important with how they're going or James gunn
- 20:29Speaker 2: Era version of where the DC Universe is headed, what
- 20:32Speaker 2: he was going to say about that portion. You don't
- 20:34Speaker 2: believe it.
- 20:35Speaker 4: I feel like it's a mystery and no one is
- 20:38Speaker 4: going to be straightforward in a mystery and the way
- 20:40Speaker 4: that she threw it away because like, like at this
- 20:43Speaker 4: thing about what's happening at the time of that scene,
- 20:45Speaker 4: like they're walking through the hospital, which How is actually
- 20:48Speaker 4: asking questions about, and she's just kind of putting him
- 20:51Speaker 4: off of things.
- 20:51Speaker 3: He's like, well, why is there just.
- 20:54Speaker 4: Fresh, brand new thinking and equipment in here. She's like,
- 20:56Speaker 4: oh yeah, you know, like we just don't do so,
- 20:58Speaker 4: like the whole cover station is her being a little
- 21:01Speaker 4: fictitious the whole time, and clearly in her discussion with
- 21:06Speaker 4: How where she says to him, and this is later
- 21:10Speaker 4: that she's a sheriff around these parts and she knows
- 21:14Speaker 4: what's going on more than like he may understand of
- 21:18Speaker 4: her understanding what's going on, and so she needs to
- 21:21Speaker 4: maintain this level of power or the concept of her
- 21:26Speaker 4: having a amount of power that is better than Macon's,
- 21:30Speaker 4: and how Macon already kind of has people sways at
- 21:33Speaker 4: his side of looking at him.
- 21:34Speaker 3: It's like being the power of the town.
- 21:37Speaker 4: So I think what we're seeing is that she's very
- 21:41Speaker 4: aware of who she is portraying herself to be and
- 21:47Speaker 4: hers telling How like oh yeah, I from Gotham City.
- 21:50Speaker 4: She says it like in a throwaway like kind of way.
- 21:52Speaker 4: She doesn't even say it like she actually means it.
- 21:54Speaker 4: She just is like, yeah, I'm Gotam City, sure, And
- 21:58Speaker 4: so I mean she could be from Brockham City. I
- 22:02Speaker 4: don't think she is, though, And I think that the
- 22:05Speaker 4: way that we see the mystery being set up, she's
- 22:10Speaker 4: kind of set out to be one of the characters
- 22:12Speaker 4: that we don't suspect of being behind some of the
- 22:15Speaker 4: questions because we see her in the last episode, we
- 22:18Speaker 4: see the preview of her. Who's the last person that's
- 22:20Speaker 4: still standing in that town that John meets up with,
- 22:22Speaker 4: it's her, So clearly, whatever happens for the town to
- 22:26Speaker 4: be in disrepair the way that it is by the
- 22:30Speaker 4: time twenty twenty six hits, she's still around. We don't
- 22:33Speaker 4: know about anyone else, and she's talking about her son
- 22:36Speaker 4: being off in college, like normal human things. So I
- 22:40Speaker 4: think the mystery about like who's the benefactor, are they
- 22:46Speaker 4: the manhunter?
- 22:47Speaker 3: Who who is the Manhunter?
- 22:49Speaker 4: All these things like that, we're set up to not
- 22:51Speaker 4: think of her as the suspect when she's like as
- 22:55Speaker 4: a possible suspect, when she definitely is one of the
- 22:57Speaker 4: possible suspects. And I think her not quite giving a
- 23:00Speaker 4: cover story that sounds real to how is a good
- 23:04Speaker 4: indicator that she is suspicious.
- 23:07Speaker 1: Well, a lot of people have definitely jumped on that
- 23:09Speaker 1: she mentions Gotham and that her name is Kine because
- 23:12Speaker 1: of course the Canes are a famous family of Gotham,
- 23:16Speaker 1: and she also called. When she's on the phone, she says,
- 23:19Speaker 1: give a kiss to Barb for me, which a lot
- 23:21Speaker 1: of people have said might be Barb. There we go.
- 23:25Speaker 1: But I think, like Porsche said, all that is just
- 23:28Speaker 1: a bunch of nonsense and a bunch of the writers
- 23:30Speaker 1: poking fun at people who love all that type of stuff.
- 23:33Speaker 1: And then you know, you'll harp on that instead of
- 23:35Speaker 1: paying attention to the fact that she's lying to this man,
- 23:38Speaker 1: because she's definitely clearly lying to this man knows way
- 23:41Speaker 1: more than she was letting on. And the whole hospital stuff,
- 23:45Speaker 1: like Porsch was saying, just it's ridiculous because we see
- 23:49Speaker 1: one other nurse at most, and no one in there
- 23:53Speaker 1: in a town full of old people like fully, yeah,
- 23:57Speaker 1: populate this hospital. If you've ever been in hospital, I
- 24:01Speaker 1: spent a lot of time at hospitals in the last
- 24:02Speaker 1: few years, and it's in a full of you know,
- 24:05Speaker 1: people advancing age and they're always full. There's never a
- 24:10Speaker 1: hospital MP bustling is words I used for hospitals at
- 24:14Speaker 1: all times, and I.
- 24:15Speaker 3: Don't want to add to that.
- 24:16Speaker 2: And also, DJ, I wanted your opinion on like the
- 24:18Speaker 2: stuff that was just said, because you sound like you
- 24:20Speaker 2: look like you got some stuff to say about this.
- 24:22Speaker 2: When we talk about situation, I mentioned situational awareness and
- 24:24Speaker 2: you know the lack thereof or clearly how has it.
- 24:27Speaker 2: He just keeps it to himself, you know, until he
- 24:28Speaker 2: gets all the facts, which I love about him. And
- 24:32Speaker 2: towards what you're saying Portia about the sheriff knowing much
- 24:35Speaker 2: more in there, and there's this whole town is the
- 24:37Speaker 2: fucking facade. There's something up with the town. There's something
- 24:40Speaker 2: up with the people. There's something up with how it's
- 24:42Speaker 2: even structured. Sheriff mentioned it in the beginning, just about
- 24:47Speaker 2: you know, the sea of power being you know, unofficially
- 24:49Speaker 2: being maken right like and and and that just seems
- 24:52Speaker 2: to be the case no matter how you slice it.
- 24:55Speaker 3: The hospital, it having.
- 24:57Speaker 2: No page let alone who Yes, there's much a bunch
- 24:59Speaker 2: of old people, let alone old people.
- 25:00Speaker 3: Forget it.
- 25:01Speaker 2: It's a hospital and we are humans. People go to
- 25:05Speaker 2: the hospital for less. I mean even in the town
- 25:07Speaker 2: of eight hundred, at least twenty people got to be
- 25:10Speaker 2: in that home like at any given point, like so
- 25:13Speaker 2: to have and not just the hospital hospital of that size,
- 25:16Speaker 2: even though it's not this huge New York City hospital,
- 25:19Speaker 2: it's enough to like take on maybe one hundred pages
- 25:21Speaker 2: and it's nobody in there.
- 25:22Speaker 4: But how suspicious I want to know too, Like, just
- 25:26Speaker 4: for a financial point of view, it takes a lot
- 25:30Speaker 4: to source a hospital. Like yes, there there's so many
- 25:35Speaker 4: different funds that are happening for people to make it
- 25:38Speaker 4: possible for rural communities to have access to hospitals because
- 25:41Speaker 4: it's very hard to fund hospitals to hit multiple rural towns.
- 25:46Speaker 4: So for them to be a rural town and have
- 25:49Speaker 4: a hospital is a major thing. There's be people from
- 25:52Speaker 4: out of town coming to their town because it's hard
- 25:54Speaker 4: to have a hospital that remote.
- 25:57Speaker 2: And today they look like they had some real nice
- 26:01Speaker 2: equipment still wrapped up in the bubble wrap. And we
- 26:04Speaker 2: all know where the funding has probably come from to
- 26:07Speaker 2: get that. But why and why It's almost like how
- 26:10Speaker 2: they show North Career where they have these constructed houses
- 26:13Speaker 2: and constructive businesses, but nobody's really in that hole or
- 26:15Speaker 2: there's like Carbo. I don't know if you've ever seen
- 26:17Speaker 2: these documentaries about No Career where they dress it up
- 26:20Speaker 2: to look like something going on, you know, they got
- 26:23Speaker 2: something shaken, but there's really literally nobody there. There's cardboard
- 26:25Speaker 2: people in the windows, right, So it's giving that a
- 26:28Speaker 2: little bit. Ben, you had made a note about this too,
- 26:31Speaker 2: But you know something I peeped just how and I
- 26:33Speaker 2: get it. It's a small town. Everybody's in the town meeting, right, everybody, man,
- 26:39Speaker 2: woman and child, every single person. Like there's nobody in
- 26:43Speaker 2: the ice cream shot. There's no like everybody. So again
- 26:47Speaker 2: maybe I don't understand being from Brooklyn, I don't understand that,
- 26:50Speaker 2: but I just thought something was off about that, and
- 26:52Speaker 2: it just this, there's continuously things that are not adding up,
- 26:55Speaker 2: and then of course the sheriff being real, you know,
- 26:58Speaker 2: moving real sus like I'm just people are saying things
- 27:02Speaker 2: that are not what the case is. And then of
- 27:04Speaker 2: course you know the reveal of all this alien technology.
- 27:07Speaker 2: Well that said Bjay, we said a lot I did
- 27:09Speaker 2: want your opinion on some of the stuff that was said.
- 27:11Speaker 5: Yeah, no, the whole town is given like Wayward Pines,
- 27:16Speaker 5: Like I can't trust anyone.
- 27:18Speaker 6: Nothing makes sense. I mean I work in health insurance.
- 27:21Speaker 5: There's never a hospital that does not at least have
- 27:25Speaker 5: a full emergency department. I get nothing else. Like you
- 27:29Speaker 5: at the hospital and everybody's chilling.
- 27:32Speaker 3: It makes going down if.
- 27:36Speaker 1: There was no beeping, no you know, doctor this to this,
- 27:39Speaker 1: you know none of that, no calls, nothing right and.
- 27:42Speaker 6: You noted this.
- 27:43Speaker 5: But like the sheriff is just chilling with a book,
- 27:46Speaker 5: sitting in that house bedside, like there's nothing else for
- 27:48Speaker 5: her to attend to.
- 27:50Speaker 1: Nothing the sheriff of the town.
- 27:54Speaker 5: Like so yeah, nah, I don't trust anybody, even the
- 27:59Speaker 5: idea that the shap knows all of this about aliens,
- 28:02Speaker 5: Like why does the sheriff know all this about aliens?
- 28:05Speaker 5: Like to have these detectors into like oh because and
- 28:09Speaker 5: that's the fun flip. It's like it's like, oh, the
- 28:12Speaker 5: you know, the Feds versus the small podunk police department.
- 28:15Speaker 5: And you know, typically the police department is like eight
- 28:18Speaker 5: steps behind. She's always ahead.
- 28:21Speaker 3: She is the grandma is the baby, Like yes.
- 28:25Speaker 5: Right, Like, I don't understand how how she's so far ahead,
- 28:29Speaker 5: especially if her relationship with her father in law it
- 28:33Speaker 5: is so adversarial, Like he wouldn't share this with her,
- 28:35Speaker 5: So where is she getting it?
- 28:41Speaker 4: Because he kind of defers to her, like when she
- 28:44Speaker 4: comes onto the property and like house starts talking. He's like,
- 28:47Speaker 4: this is how you move in, and she's like, I
- 28:48Speaker 4: didn't say anything.
- 28:50Speaker 3: Okay, note that what I said was zero.
- 28:53Speaker 4: And he even kind of like in that conversation, he's
- 28:56Speaker 4: just kind of like, oh, what do you want to
- 28:59Speaker 4: do to her?
- 28:59Speaker 3: And she's just kind of like, you know, it is
- 29:02Speaker 3: what it is.
- 29:03Speaker 4: And I think it's interesting because again, I do not
- 29:07Speaker 4: think that if you were someone from a small town,
- 29:10Speaker 4: as someone who is from a small town, you move
- 29:13Speaker 4: your way to becoming sheriff of that town and you
- 29:16Speaker 4: align yourself with the lawyer son of the man who
- 29:21Speaker 4: like unofficially actually rents the town, I don't think you're
- 29:25Speaker 4: gonna like make that connection or like alliance and then
- 29:32Speaker 4: also be saying that you're like, oh, I'm actively trying
- 29:36Speaker 4: to subvert his power to like an outsider like she's
- 29:41Speaker 4: That's what's most fishy to me about her because like
- 29:43Speaker 4: every time she talks about she's like, let me talk
- 29:45Speaker 4: to him. And it's kind of like I think it's
- 29:48Speaker 4: you gotta think about how manipulation. How you know someone
- 29:52Speaker 4: else is gonna move before they move, and so you
- 29:54Speaker 4: kind of like feed in them to be like do
- 29:56Speaker 4: exactly what you think they should do.
- 29:59Speaker 3: So I think it's how did first episode to.
- 30:03Speaker 1: John? Whenever?
- 30:05Speaker 4: John is like whenever, how I ask him, like what
- 30:07Speaker 4: would you do? And he's like, oh, I would go
- 30:09Speaker 4: tell her and he's like, Okay, go do it. Like
- 30:12Speaker 4: I think he's like it's not even like he's he's
- 30:15Speaker 4: basically saying to him, do what moves you because he
- 30:18Speaker 4: knows that it's going to He's been waiting for the
- 30:21Speaker 4: guy to slip up, the alien to slip up, so
- 30:23Speaker 4: you can do something. But it's only going to take
- 30:26Speaker 4: some outside reaction for the alien to slip up. So
- 30:29Speaker 4: he's like, this is gonna work in my favor. I
- 30:31Speaker 4: get John out of my like out of my hair
- 30:34Speaker 4: for a minute. He gets to run him down, he
- 30:35Speaker 4: feels responsible for that, and I get to sit back
- 30:38Speaker 4: and like catch him in the end, Like so it
- 30:40Speaker 4: all works out for me. If like this goes goes
- 30:42Speaker 4: Overry and then so too the sheriff, and she was
- 30:44Speaker 4: on the field. When John is like did I mess up?
- 30:47Speaker 4: She's like, I suspect you did. She was already ahead
- 30:50Speaker 4: and it was already again. It worked in her favor
- 30:53Speaker 4: to just be like, well, I'm the wise sheriff who's
- 30:57Speaker 4: from this small the small town kind of vibe to
- 31:00Speaker 4: John and folks he kind of like. So, I think
- 31:03Speaker 4: there's a lot of manipulation here. I think it's more
- 31:05Speaker 4: than just Macon's wife. I think there's multiple people playing
- 31:11Speaker 4: cards that are all manipulations of like what they know
- 31:14Speaker 4: about how what they know about John, what they know
- 31:16Speaker 4: about the lanterns.
- 31:19Speaker 1: Yeah, on that note, I do want to say a
- 31:21Speaker 1: couple of things about the town. And then because you
- 31:24Speaker 1: mentioned Macon's wife and then I got some questions. But like,
- 31:27Speaker 1: the other thing that makes the town so suspicious is
- 31:30Speaker 1: the fact that no one reacts at all to how
- 31:34Speaker 1: like they know everyone in the world. When he goes
- 31:36Speaker 1: to the taco stand, they are all taking pictures. They
- 31:39Speaker 1: are hypeseaters, man, they are everything. Since how has stepped
- 31:42Speaker 1: into this town, there is not a notice. It's just
- 31:45Speaker 1: been like, oh yeah, whatever, dude sit down next to me.
- 31:47Speaker 2: They seem more annoyed that he'd be there, Like they
- 31:50Speaker 2: carry the same William Macon kind of plotline with them.
- 31:53Speaker 2: They're like, Oh, why the fuck are you still here?
- 31:55Speaker 3: Bro?
- 31:55Speaker 1: Yeah, And like Portia said, it seems that everyone had
- 31:58Speaker 1: was and like Williams said, first episode, I knew you
- 32:01Speaker 1: were coming. I did all the research. I've laid out everything.
- 32:04Speaker 1: So he's already taught to sheriff, he's already talked to
- 32:07Speaker 1: his wife, he's already taught to son in law. Everyone. Also,
- 32:11Speaker 1: it's like, who this seems like for this is an
- 32:16Speaker 1: old eighties movie, but this seems like the evil cocoon
- 32:19Speaker 1: going on in this town where something alien has come
- 32:22Speaker 1: to this town. And granted me, you've seen cocoons, you
- 32:26Speaker 1: know that. I'm like, it's granted all these people, you know,
- 32:29Speaker 1: immunity from death or long lived life whatever, where they
- 32:33Speaker 1: don't need to go to the hospital, you don't have
- 32:35Speaker 1: to do any of that, just go along with whatever
- 32:37Speaker 1: else we have going on. So is that the question
- 32:40Speaker 1: is that the manhunter here? And that who's the man
- 32:44Speaker 1: hunter is a big question. But there was something the
- 32:46Speaker 1: sheriff said, and then I'll get Toamaican's wife, she said,
- 32:50Speaker 1: Waalon the alien who got through. She wasn't like he
- 32:55Speaker 1: got through because the detectors didn't work.
- 32:58Speaker 3: No, the detector detected.
- 33:01Speaker 1: This, That's what she says.
- 33:03Speaker 3: She's like, it didn't work on him or something like that.
- 33:07Speaker 1: Yeah, she's like, I didn't suspect him to be an alien.
- 33:10Speaker 1: But that's some more bullshit to me. That's when it's
- 33:12Speaker 1: like it, no, you knew he was an alien all that.
- 33:16Speaker 1: That feels like some nonsense. Now onto Macon's wife and
- 33:21Speaker 1: to manipulation. And this is something I peeped and I
- 33:25Speaker 1: was on red and and saw when they first have
- 33:28Speaker 1: their encounter, she pulls out a pack of cigarettes since
- 33:31Speaker 1: yellow right now in the diner in the second episode,
- 33:36Speaker 1: when she's sitting down and when John is sitting across
- 33:38Speaker 1: from her. I'll just be watching in the background as
- 33:41Speaker 1: we're watching this, and I really peep it, and it's wild.
- 33:43Speaker 1: When she's sitting there, you see the mustard next to her.
- 33:47Speaker 1: When you cut back to John, you see the ketchups
- 33:49Speaker 1: in front of him. But when you cut back to
- 33:51Speaker 1: the shot of both of them in the shot, mustard
- 33:54Speaker 1: is a parent, Yellow is a parent, So yellow is
- 33:57Speaker 1: always associated with this woman. For people who don't know
- 34:01Speaker 1: the lore, the yellow color is traditionally the color that
- 34:04Speaker 1: the greenland and rings don't work on, and eventually it's
- 34:08Speaker 1: what Sinestro and his core of lanterns Jews was. Sinestra
- 34:12Speaker 1: pretty much for his histories use a yellow ring, but
- 34:14Speaker 1: eventually he forms a whole core of lanterns Corps and
- 34:18Speaker 1: they all use a yellow ring. So the fact that
- 34:21Speaker 1: we consistently see yellow with this woman, you know, is
- 34:25Speaker 1: something going on again with her. Now as to who
- 34:29Speaker 1: is the Manhunter, that's also the big question of the episode,
- 34:33Speaker 1: and seems to be the series. The aliens who kidnap John.
- 34:37Speaker 1: They say the Manhunters came through our town are septor
- 34:42Speaker 1: or they came through space, basically started wrecking shit, dispensing
- 34:46Speaker 1: their form of justice. Then just like that they disappeared
- 34:50Speaker 1: with we don't know why, and one was left behind.
- 34:54Speaker 1: He started as genocide. They can hide as anyone. They
- 34:59Speaker 1: started the genocide, and then a lantern came through and
- 35:02Speaker 1: picked up the Manhunter and said they would deal with it, right.
- 35:06Speaker 1: Who is that lantern? It's guessed that in this episode
- 35:10Speaker 1: that is aving soon.
- 35:12Speaker 3: That's what I thought.
- 35:13Speaker 1: I think, all right, two foot things and BJA and everyone.
- 35:17Speaker 1: You all know the history. Bj definitely knows this history.
- 35:20Speaker 1: The Manhunters are were in the comics at last, were
- 35:23Speaker 1: created by the Guardians as a precursor to the Lanterns.
- 35:27Speaker 1: They went out, they dispensed justice, like you said. But
- 35:30Speaker 1: then they wild out, and the Guardians were like, okay,
- 35:33Speaker 1: we can't deal with that anymore. Like we said, they
- 35:35Speaker 1: disappeared just as suddenly as they came, and then they
- 35:39Speaker 1: created the Lanterns. And but then of course some Manhunters
- 35:42Speaker 1: survived and rebelled against the Guardians. To this day, they're
- 35:45Speaker 1: a threat to you know, the Guardians and to the
- 35:48Speaker 1: Lanterns universe. Why right, So the guesses that happened served,
- 35:53Speaker 1: But of course, you know Red Herring's being thrown off.
- 35:56Speaker 1: I'm thinking it's Sinstro. I think ten years ago Sinestro
- 35:59Speaker 1: came through, got this man Hunter, found out about the
- 36:03Speaker 1: origins of the Manhunters and was like, yo, what fuck Guardians,
- 36:07Speaker 1: and win A rebelled against the Guardians, which led to
- 36:09Speaker 1: him being in prison, and how being disillusioned with the
- 36:12Speaker 1: Guardians and with Sinestro and his whole thing.
- 36:15Speaker 2: That would make the most sense that would make the
- 36:17Speaker 2: most narrative sense, especially for the fact that at the
- 36:20Speaker 2: very end of them, so we actually see Sinestro and
- 36:22Speaker 2: have a conversation directly about manhunters.
- 36:25Speaker 1: But how does the manhunter get to Earth in that
- 36:28Speaker 1: situation and enter this town.
- 36:31Speaker 4: Ken manhunters have been here the whole time.
- 36:34Speaker 5: Maybe, especially if they're shape shifting, like maybe they just
- 36:38Speaker 5: take to catch all of.
- 36:39Speaker 4: Them, especially if like again, if Earth is the backwater
- 36:44Speaker 4: end of the forest creatures of nobody giving a crap
- 36:48Speaker 4: about what the fuck is going on there, kind of
- 36:50Speaker 4: like place for galaxy, and why a manhunter This would
- 36:54Speaker 4: be a great place for a manhunter to hide, because
- 36:56Speaker 4: who's coming over here?
- 36:58Speaker 3: That's a fact.
- 36:59Speaker 1: But then why does how noted something's going to happen
- 37:03Speaker 1: in this town other the fact? And then if Avancer
- 37:06Speaker 1: crashed here, that's the thing, like why is avan Swer
- 37:10Speaker 1: crashing here? That has to tie in.
- 37:12Speaker 3: But maybe he.
- 37:13Speaker 4: Crashed there because he like he was he was trying
- 37:17Speaker 4: to find manhunters. He came out of the way figured
- 37:21Speaker 4: out like, oh, they might be manhunter presents here, and
- 37:23Speaker 4: then he died and he was like, well, I need
- 37:26Speaker 4: someone has to take on the mantle to continue what
- 37:28Speaker 4: I was about to start, what I was trying to
- 37:29Speaker 4: start here finding where this.
- 37:31Speaker 3: Man hunter is having got this man Hunter?
- 37:32Speaker 2: Basically to that and also to your question Ben of
- 37:35Speaker 2: how how new? Like how I always keep talking about
- 37:38Speaker 2: gut feeling and they they This was like a big
- 37:40Speaker 2: theme in this's episode about instinct too. Is it more
- 37:43Speaker 2: than just gut feelings an instinct? Is there something and
- 37:46Speaker 2: this is part of the lantern history that I don't
- 37:48Speaker 2: know if this was even touched upon in any book,
- 37:51Speaker 2: in any comic, but like, is there something that also
- 37:54Speaker 2: gets passed down to you once you get the ring?
- 37:55Speaker 2: Besides just like you know, getting access to the powers
- 37:59Speaker 2: and being doing common drugs, like do you.
- 38:01Speaker 3: Get maybe you just have to be taught?
- 38:03Speaker 2: But is someone like are you is there any type
- 38:06Speaker 2: of knowledge or instinctual you know, mental stamping that gets
- 38:10Speaker 2: carried down to you as well as the next lantern?
- 38:12Speaker 2: Like do you do you get anything from the previous lantern?
- 38:17Speaker 5: Well generally speaking, right, you get your ring, Yeah, after
- 38:20Speaker 5: a previous lantern dies, once you know, you get in,
- 38:25Speaker 5: you go to oh and you sort of get your
- 38:27Speaker 5: kind of knowledge down like you get trained, like just
- 38:30Speaker 5: get trained, so you get training on like the basic
- 38:33Speaker 5: history of stuff.
- 38:34Speaker 6: But so much of how Jordan's character boils down to instinct.
- 38:39Speaker 2: So really it's just pure instinct. And then just answer
- 38:41Speaker 2: your question a no, out of how do he knew?
- 38:43Speaker 2: He keeps saying it's in my guts and my gut,
- 38:44Speaker 2: and I was just like, is it just that or
- 38:46Speaker 2: is it because there's something else that he has been learned.
- 38:50Speaker 4: I like this train of thought though, because kind of
- 38:52Speaker 4: like the genetics a little bit, but like more like
- 38:55Speaker 4: it's encoded in the Ring, Like is there could the
- 38:57Speaker 4: Ring be holding a code? Like is the Ring whites
- 39:00Speaker 4: clean when the predecessor dies? Or is there some can
- 39:04Speaker 4: they leave something a message or something tied to.
- 39:07Speaker 2: The Ring messages the hollow, the holograms, the hollow, you
- 39:12Speaker 2: know hollow how as we saw the last episode, so
- 39:15Speaker 2: we know that for a fact.
- 39:17Speaker 4: And also like if like how ran up on dying
- 39:20Speaker 4: Alvin sir, then like maybe Alvin said something to him,
- 39:24Speaker 4: like like to his face.
- 39:26Speaker 5: I don't know, yeah, And other adaptations like the Ring
- 39:30Speaker 5: can basically teach a lantern how to be a lantern,
- 39:33Speaker 5: so like it's like the Ring keeps the knowledge of
- 39:35Speaker 5: the wearer.
- 39:36Speaker 2: And That's what I was trying to like understand, and
- 39:39Speaker 2: the lud to like, is there something you know? Is
- 39:41Speaker 2: there is there any lore that that would go on
- 39:44Speaker 2: that track? So even though he says it's instinct, is
- 39:46Speaker 2: it because it's something imprinted in him because of the
- 39:49Speaker 2: ring and because of his association with the lanterns and
- 39:51Speaker 2: all this other stuff.
- 39:52Speaker 4: Speaking of How and like subconscious things in his sleep.
- 39:57Speaker 4: The reason why the Cheff knows to like look up
- 39:59Speaker 4: to Sinettro is because he keeps saying it's Sinestro in
- 40:02Speaker 4: his sleep while in the hospital. So it's possible too
- 40:06Speaker 4: that like he is holding on this stuff and its
- 40:08Speaker 4: subconscious and he is like it's just not coming out.
- 40:13Speaker 4: It is the instinct and sexual thought that he's talking about.
- 40:16Speaker 4: But also to talk about he talked about John and
- 40:20Speaker 4: his proclivity for spilling his guts to women. But what
- 40:23Speaker 4: was How doing with the sheriff if not the same thing,
- 40:26Speaker 4: because he's over here asking this lady's like, is it
- 40:28Speaker 4: a happy marriage?
- 40:29Speaker 2: Like that's not nosy.
- 40:37Speaker 1: Joe doing all the things your man won't do, like
- 40:40Speaker 1: oh man, ready.
- 40:42Speaker 2: Well, well you know, not to discount how How is
- 40:44Speaker 2: clearly extremely smart too, write like he's a detective. You know,
- 40:47Speaker 2: everyone a lot of people online like in this this
- 40:50Speaker 2: series to true Detective he how is like how asks
- 40:53Speaker 2: these questions he does that he plays a drunken master role,
- 40:56Speaker 2: but really he knows generally speaking, he knows what's happening.
- 40:59Speaker 2: He knows what's up. Yes, to me, it is a
- 41:01Speaker 2: partly him just being nosy because some things are really
- 41:04Speaker 2: like throwaway information, like you don't have a happy marriage.
- 41:06Speaker 2: But also some of it is it's real detective work
- 41:09Speaker 2: where he's trying to get to the bottom of things.
- 41:11Speaker 2: You know a lot of times, like when you see
- 41:12Speaker 2: how he even processes it when he goes back to
- 41:15Speaker 2: the football field and he's sitting there and he's re
- 41:19Speaker 2: retracing the steps and and and literally reworking it. And
- 41:22Speaker 2: the fact that he dragged four fucking bodies just to
- 41:26Speaker 2: test his hypothesis of the of the metal detectors, Like
- 41:30Speaker 2: he's a method actor when it comes you know, how
- 41:33Speaker 2: how as a detective, he's a method detective, right, He's
- 41:36Speaker 2: he's going to be in the in the moment, in
- 41:38Speaker 2: the scene, he's going to play the role, but to
- 41:39Speaker 2: get the information he needs.
- 41:41Speaker 5: Mm hmm, yeah, I think how how superpower is not willpowers,
- 41:46Speaker 5: it's white privilege. And I think that it's just examples
- 41:50Speaker 5: of it, right, Like he's just you know what, this
- 41:54Speaker 5: lady's here in the room with me, let me shoot
- 41:56Speaker 5: my shot. Hey, you stayed at my bedside while were
- 41:58Speaker 5: you here? Is your happy? Like he's just he's just
- 42:02Speaker 5: it's a heat check, that's all it is.
- 42:04Speaker 1: Mm My man answered to honey when she.
- 42:07Speaker 2: Said, honey, he's outwardly fucking with her now, like like
- 42:13Speaker 2: that's unlike he he he plays that role so well,
- 42:16Speaker 2: like he knows what he's doing. Like it's like it's
- 42:19Speaker 2: partially serious, partially him being a clown, but also at
- 42:22Speaker 2: the end of the day, it justifies his means, right,
- 42:25Speaker 2: Like like that the results justify his means because he ends
- 42:28Speaker 2: up getting what he needs to get. BJ, you just
- 42:30Speaker 2: had something really important that I want to make sure
- 42:32Speaker 2: that we touched upon when you talked about white privilege,
- 42:36Speaker 2: and I made it a reason to talk about race
- 42:40Speaker 2: in the last episode when we and I was like,
- 42:42Speaker 2: how are they going to be using this and how
- 42:44Speaker 2: they listen?
- 42:47Speaker 1: Who?
- 42:48Speaker 2: What did y'all think about the The POC conversation between
- 42:52Speaker 2: Zoe Macon and John.
- 42:56Speaker 5: It almost redeemed the fact that John is Pillow talking
- 42:59Speaker 5: in this bar, like because she's just spitting the real
- 43:06Speaker 5: and there's so many layers to it, like she's talking
- 43:10Speaker 5: about how you know she because basically John's like, okay,
- 43:13Speaker 5: well you're always stepping out on your husband, like what's
- 43:15Speaker 5: going on? And she's like, well, you know, he's boring,
- 43:17Speaker 5: but I picked him because he's safe, right, Like rich
- 43:20Speaker 5: white men can do whatever they want in society, and
- 43:23Speaker 5: so like that safety was attractive to her. But then
- 43:27Speaker 5: she also makes a point to say that she felt
- 43:31Speaker 5: honored because he could have chosen anyone, but he chose her,
- 43:34Speaker 5: And I think that's just kind of that sucks. It's
- 43:36Speaker 5: emblematic of just, you know how white privilege or maybe
- 43:41Speaker 5: or white white supremacy, which feels charged. So I'll say,
- 43:45Speaker 5: like whiteness as default, right, what makes you feel like
- 43:50Speaker 5: maybe you are not worth being chosen to be honored
- 43:54Speaker 5: that he could have chosen but chose you.
- 43:57Speaker 2: You know, it felt like respectability politics too, like what
- 43:59Speaker 2: you mean you felt honored?
- 44:01Speaker 1: But I also gotta I think there's another side to that.
- 44:06Speaker 1: I don't think that she felt honored. I think it's
- 44:08Speaker 1: more like I took the white man from his blonde dream, like,
- 44:14Speaker 1: you know, that's the thing. What he wants, you know,
- 44:16Speaker 1: what he should have is the blonde woman. And I
- 44:19Speaker 1: know none of that. I'm here, you know. So And
- 44:22Speaker 1: also she says, because he's like, well, a lot of
- 44:24Speaker 1: men do want you, And she's like, yeah, of course,
- 44:27Speaker 1: but are they him? Are they rich white man who
- 44:29Speaker 1: can protect me? Which also leads to that theory that
- 44:34Speaker 1: manhunter or something, you know, villainous, because one in this
- 44:39Speaker 1: town of you know, Nebraska whiteness, this woman is ignored.
- 44:44Speaker 1: Nobody bothers her, no nothing. She just seems to just
- 44:47Speaker 1: be there. You know, people don't even pay her no mind,
- 44:50Speaker 1: just like you know, even the worst version of how
- 44:52Speaker 1: they do. How and then like she says, I needed protection,
- 44:55Speaker 1: I needed safety. I needed these things this man could provided. Hmm.
- 45:00Speaker 1: This man when here comes to town, tells him all
- 45:03Speaker 1: about aliens, tells him how aliens would come at any time.
- 45:06Speaker 1: I'll give you all the technology you need to protect everything.
- 45:12Speaker 1: I don't know, she's you know, a mysterious benefactor. It's
- 45:17Speaker 1: maybe her.
- 45:17Speaker 2: Answer is manhter.
- 45:19Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, we've also pointed out that you know that's
- 45:23Speaker 1: not her grandchild, you know, like she is a brown
- 45:25Speaker 1: woman and that is not her grandchild. Also the fact
- 45:29Speaker 1: that that boy can't play ball and somehow managed to
- 45:31Speaker 1: be all state.
- 45:32Speaker 4: Is you know, there's are not making sense?
- 45:36Speaker 1: Yeah? Is he lying about you know? Is is the
- 45:40Speaker 1: sheriff lying about all State? You know?
- 45:42Speaker 5: No, the John the magical Negro transformed the trajectory of
- 45:46Speaker 5: his life and made him all state.
- 45:49Speaker 1: Just by right. Not the legend of Negro.
- 45:54Speaker 2: Oh my god, that's very fun that the legend of
- 45:59Speaker 2: back events.
- 46:01Speaker 1: Oh no, I mean clapped him cheats in the parking
- 46:05Speaker 1: lot and change reality. Boy, he made that.
- 46:10Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 46:12Speaker 2: Wait wait, but before we moved off, I wanted to
- 46:22Speaker 2: also just say like, uh, yes, everything you said be there,
- 46:25Speaker 2: just about how she you know, positioned her relationship with
- 46:29Speaker 2: with making William make him right, and how and and
- 46:33Speaker 2: and why she whether she chose him he chose her,
- 46:36Speaker 2: and that dynamic there, and the fact that he just
- 46:39Speaker 2: let shit happen apparently because John asked, you know, outwardly asked, like,
- 46:42Speaker 2: do y'all have some type of arrangement? And she just like,
- 46:45Speaker 2: I just do whatever the fuck I want, right, And
- 46:46Speaker 2: it just seems like making is like whatever, not to
- 46:49Speaker 2: say that like that, that's that is actually way more
- 46:52Speaker 2: common than people realized. But also it's just like, well, damn,
- 46:54Speaker 2: he's just he's really as a as a husband, you
- 46:56Speaker 2: really just gonna let that ship slide. Like that tend
- 46:59Speaker 2: to happened in relations that have been together for a
- 47:02Speaker 2: very long time, because you know, you grow and you evolve.
- 47:05Speaker 2: I get it, but also it's a little suspicious, and
- 47:09Speaker 2: so so I just wanted to mention that, and just
- 47:11Speaker 2: on the other side of that racial conversation, John mentioning that,
- 47:16Speaker 2: oh he again. One thing that was so funny about
- 47:19Speaker 2: this episode was everything was funny, Everything was comedy. Him
- 47:23Speaker 2: saying that the white man went made him go fetch
- 47:25Speaker 2: his stuff, and you know, I was waiting for Aaron
- 47:28Speaker 2: Pierre to start tap dancing in the corner because it
- 47:30Speaker 2: was just it was just perfect how he just delivered
- 47:33Speaker 2: the line, which also just speaks to Aaron Pierre's comedic timing, but.
- 47:39Speaker 3: That it was very fourth.
- 47:42Speaker 2: It was very breaking the wall kind of conversation that
- 47:44Speaker 2: they had because it was like, damn me, I'm not
- 47:46Speaker 2: talking about the show anymore, y'all talking.
- 47:47Speaker 3: About real life too.
- 47:48Speaker 2: So I really appreciated that they went there and hopefully
- 47:52Speaker 2: will continue to push that line.
- 47:55Speaker 1: Oh yeah, and on that note, because there was a
- 47:59Speaker 1: couple of common from last week that I want to address,
- 48:02Speaker 1: because one of them said something to the effect of
- 48:06Speaker 1: how they don't they think that this show needs to
- 48:09Speaker 1: stay away from race talk. I think was their word
- 48:12Speaker 1: not going to happen? And how that derailed Watchmen of
- 48:15Speaker 1: all things, And yeah, really quickly, like I've I mean, one,
- 48:22Speaker 1: that's what Watchmen was all about, like you said. And two,
- 48:25Speaker 1: as I've said many times on this show, there is
- 48:27Speaker 1: no such thing as any art that is devoid of
- 48:30Speaker 1: any politics or any racial connotations, et cetera. If it
- 48:35Speaker 1: doesn't discuss it directly. That's the privilege of not having
- 48:39Speaker 1: to discuss it directly. And nine times out of nine,
- 48:45Speaker 1: pretty much, there is some mention of politics in every
- 48:49Speaker 1: single form of art you've ever seen. It's just that
- 48:51Speaker 1: normally you agree with it, and so it doesn't it's
- 48:54Speaker 1: something you don't notice. But when people start making comments
- 48:58Speaker 1: like white men are privilege and rich white men are
- 49:01Speaker 1: the most privileged of them all, and you know, et cetera,
- 49:05Speaker 1: et cetera, and it's this show basically it's distressing race
- 49:08Speaker 1: in every episode it suddenly becomes a problem for people.
- 49:12Speaker 1: And that's just pretty much all I have to say
- 49:14Speaker 1: about that. And it's just like ignorance of that. And
- 49:17Speaker 1: to say the Green Lantern, like we distressed last week,
- 49:19Speaker 1: hasn't always distrussed these topics. It's just ignorance of the
- 49:23Speaker 1: source material, which people love to, you know, run and
- 49:26Speaker 1: talk about all the time. So I really don't have
- 49:28Speaker 1: time for it. And I was really glad that this
- 49:31Speaker 1: episode continued to lean into it and continue to distress it,
- 49:34Speaker 1: because it's just reality, Like the commentive sets on them,
- 49:37Speaker 1: we don't live in the nineteen sixties anymore, and I'm like, no,
- 49:40Speaker 1: we live in twenty twenty six and it's you know,
- 49:42Speaker 1: ridiculously racist out here. And I saw a study talking
- 49:45Speaker 1: about how black people we actually eat so much racism
- 49:49Speaker 1: that we don't even realize how much, you know, racism
- 49:52Speaker 1: is going on in the world. So fuck all that, man,
- 49:55Speaker 1: And I really just it's just really ridiculous to me
- 49:58Speaker 1: at this point. Yeah, it's like I was trying to
- 50:00Speaker 1: make a separate video about this, but I'm just kind
- 50:02Speaker 1: of tired of making that same video, you know, where
- 50:04Speaker 1: it's like I made these videos over and over again,
- 50:06Speaker 1: where I say, hey, it's always been in all your
- 50:10Speaker 1: fucking comics and it will always be there.
- 50:14Speaker 5: You know, we could just throw out the casual reminder
- 50:16Speaker 5: that Green Lantern was like a D list character at
- 50:19Speaker 5: best until Daniel Neil decided to write a bunch of
- 50:23Speaker 5: politics into the Green Lantern stories featuring Green Arrow, right,
- 50:27Speaker 5: and if I guess if you have an issue with
- 50:28Speaker 5: all of that, you could just take it up with
- 50:30Speaker 5: the three rich white men who wrote this.
- 50:32Speaker 1: Series that part. So yeah, I was, you know, quite
- 50:39Speaker 1: happy about that, and then on some other stuff and
- 50:43Speaker 1: this will get into minusing. Like you said, the comedy
- 50:47Speaker 1: in this episode was amazing because one of them that
- 50:52Speaker 1: I just love is right after Hall gets shot, when
- 50:56Speaker 1: he's just trying to walk onto the farm, like you know,
- 50:58Speaker 1: a white man will do an arrogant white man at
- 51:02Speaker 1: that it cuts to the aliens with John and he's
- 51:05Speaker 1: like sorry for the violence, And that was.
- 51:09Speaker 2: Like it was they from Jump Street. This episode was
- 51:14Speaker 2: sheer comedy. They the interaction with hal and John about
- 51:19Speaker 2: learning to fly that I was crying because it's like,
- 51:25Speaker 2: how is the worst teacher, whether you know, because he's
- 51:28Speaker 2: trying to teach something more deep, or he's just being
- 51:30Speaker 2: an asshole, just the way he went about it, like Okay,
- 51:34Speaker 2: here's the ring fly and there's no explanation, there's no direction,
- 51:39Speaker 2: there's no nothing, just like how he's been quote training
- 51:42Speaker 2: John this entire time, right, very much circular referencing, like
- 51:48Speaker 2: when someone asked for a definition of the word and
- 51:50Speaker 2: he used the word to define it, like he says,
- 51:52Speaker 2: you know, he said fly, you know, like flight, Like
- 51:55Speaker 2: doing a version of the word is not going to
- 51:57Speaker 2: help you understand it any better, right, and again just
- 52:01Speaker 2: giving no real at least visible support and just making
- 52:07Speaker 2: sure like, oh you just got to figure this shit out.
- 52:08Speaker 2: It's instinctual.
- 52:10Speaker 1: Right.
- 52:11Speaker 2: Again, there's lots of death to that scene, but also
- 52:14Speaker 2: just on the pure comedy level, one of the best
- 52:16Speaker 2: things I've seen in a while.
- 52:19Speaker 3: I mean on comedic, but also on the note of like.
- 52:25Speaker 4: John being the black man going to go get the
- 52:28Speaker 4: white man's things from another state, just the way because
- 52:33Speaker 4: episode starts with like how feeling emboldened to just run
- 52:36Speaker 4: up into his hotel room, throw some water on him
- 52:39Speaker 4: and be like get the fuck up, And John is like,
- 52:42Speaker 4: I mean, okay, I got he Like what else are
- 52:45Speaker 4: you gonna do and then it's like he just accepts it,
- 52:48Speaker 4: and then he takes his butt like outside they have
- 52:50Speaker 4: a competition about the flight and all that kind of stuff.
- 52:52Speaker 3: And then when he.
- 52:55Speaker 4: Gets to house house, because this is like, well we're
- 52:58Speaker 4: hitting two prongster, because that was the thing I thought
- 53:00Speaker 4: that was interesting, a carryover from last week's conversation, was.
- 53:05Speaker 3: Like how are they getting paid?
- 53:07Speaker 4: And so whenever, like because the thing that he what
- 53:11Speaker 4: how actually does is he's waking up John in time
- 53:15Speaker 4: to make the flight that he already booked for John
- 53:17Speaker 4: to take just in case the whole flight thing don't
- 53:19Speaker 4: work out.
- 53:19Speaker 3: And also he knows probably gonna work out because his
- 53:21Speaker 3: battery's on five.
- 53:22Speaker 4: Percent on the rink anyway, so like that was all
- 53:26Speaker 4: gonna toss up anyway. So he hands the man a
- 53:31Speaker 4: ticket to get for him to get to run to
- 53:35Speaker 4: Coast City, and then when he gets to his house,
- 53:39Speaker 4: it's a mansion, and he's like, so, how much do
- 53:42Speaker 4: we get paid? And he's like, oh, not very much,
- 53:44Speaker 4: like not enough, And so we get the explanation that
- 53:47Speaker 4: like he saved a rich white boy, and the rich
- 53:51Speaker 4: white boy's dad was like, okay, I'll give you a house,
- 53:53Speaker 4: and so that's the house and he's been living in
- 53:55Speaker 4: like his bedroom, that's the only furnished place in the
- 53:57Speaker 4: entire mansion. And even then it's like barely got anything.
- 54:02Speaker 4: He's looked diff for eight years. Talk about how's white privilege,
- 54:05Speaker 4: like that is a lot. And so for me, the
- 54:09Speaker 4: like he's doesn't say who Earl is, but he asked
- 54:13Speaker 4: John to feed Earl. We find out Earl is like
- 54:16Speaker 4: a conrivorous alien plant, and like, so like the privilege
- 54:20Speaker 4: of like him having an alien plant, just like hanging
- 54:23Speaker 4: out and his greenhouse is crazy. And then first thing
- 54:26Speaker 4: that happens, because I'm like, there's no way a black
- 54:29Speaker 4: man is going to a rich white man's house breaking
- 54:32Speaker 4: in with a key and coming back out of it easily.
- 54:35Speaker 4: And the first thing that happens tobody he gets kidnapped
- 54:37Speaker 4: coming out of this white man's house. So I'm just
- 54:40Speaker 4: like this whole tie in of like race and like
- 54:43Speaker 4: all the factors of like money and all those things
- 54:46Speaker 4: like and privilege are all wrapped up in it. And
- 54:48Speaker 4: it's comedic, but it's also like like Henry Garrity that
- 54:51Speaker 4: he had to dump in he was trying to get
- 54:53Speaker 4: to his own house and he had the freak. His
- 54:55Speaker 4: neighbor called the cops on him, like he has the
- 54:58Speaker 4: permission speaking to the man on his phone directly, And
- 55:01Speaker 4: even though it's not like the comps or something, it's
- 55:03Speaker 4: still someone who jumps him.
- 55:06Speaker 3: Just because he was.
- 55:09Speaker 6: Yes.
- 55:10Speaker 2: Yes.
- 55:11Speaker 1: Another thing that I want to know is talk about privilege?
- 55:14Speaker 1: Is how? Because and it's two things. Is we see
- 55:18Speaker 1: a lot of pictures, right, and that speaks to How's
- 55:21Speaker 1: loneliness and it's isolation because the pictures are all with
- 55:24Speaker 1: people he doesn't know really, you know, they're all other
- 55:26Speaker 1: presidents presidents. And two things about that. One we see
- 55:31Speaker 1: a picture of him with both Bush and Obama, So
- 55:33Speaker 1: how you know it can be above politics because he's
- 55:36Speaker 1: right and so he doesn't give a ship. You know,
- 55:39Speaker 1: I can be with whoever I want, you know, ha
- 55:41Speaker 1: ha ha. And then the other thing is you see
- 55:43Speaker 1: a picture of him with the Harry Potter cast, so
- 55:47Speaker 1: that man was especially like, yo, this alien doesn't know
- 55:52Speaker 1: who Harry Potter is.
- 55:54Speaker 3: He's a Harry Potter stand and.
- 55:57Speaker 1: He was like hogwarts. He was high, he was insulted.
- 56:02Speaker 1: He's like, you don't know what's school here in you know,
- 56:05Speaker 1: like this man was tight. So yeah, but but Hall
- 56:11Speaker 1: is definitely isolated, you know, he's a loner all that,
- 56:15Speaker 1: and we see it in his house with the pictures
- 56:17Speaker 1: all that, so I thought that was excellent work.
- 56:19Speaker 3: We see it in the house itself.
- 56:20Speaker 2: The house is this huge, huge, it's expansive, it's gorgeous,
- 56:26Speaker 2: you can do a lot with it. But it's like,
- 56:29Speaker 2: but it's on that too, but it's empty, there is
- 56:32Speaker 2: nothing inside. He's had it for eight years or lived
- 56:36Speaker 2: he says he's lived there for eight years. Just speaks
- 56:39Speaker 2: of something that's been there for a long time but
- 56:41Speaker 2: has no substance to it. And it's expressive of him
- 56:45Speaker 2: as well.
- 56:46Speaker 1: So very good point. And then also while we're in
- 56:49Speaker 1: the house, we've been mentioned the lantern earlier, but yeah,
- 56:54Speaker 1: that shit looked fire. I gotta say, like it was,
- 56:56Speaker 1: you know, just weathered. Yeah, the props incredible and I
- 57:02Speaker 1: didn't notice reference. But the voice opening for the lock
- 57:07Speaker 1: is Mogo doesn't socialize, and Mogo doesn't socialize as a
- 57:12Speaker 1: story by Alan Moore, the Great Alan Moore. Yeah, it's
- 57:16Speaker 1: actually a story about Mogo. I went and read it
- 57:19Speaker 1: real quick. It's a quick five page story. Mogo is
- 57:22Speaker 1: a planet sized green Lanner. It is a planet that
- 57:26Speaker 1: is a green Lander, and Mogo doesn't socialized. Tells the
- 57:30Speaker 1: story of how this alien hunter fighter killer comes looking
- 57:34Speaker 1: for Mogo, not knowing it's a planet, spends months on
- 57:38Speaker 1: the planet before realizing that Mogo is the planet, and
- 57:42Speaker 1: then flies off of the space fearing. And the reason
- 57:45Speaker 1: why Mogo doesn't socialize is because he's a planet, or
- 57:48Speaker 1: it's a planet. They're a planet and it's gravity wells
- 57:52Speaker 1: would destroy anything that comes near, so Mogo doesn't socialize.
- 57:57Speaker 2: That acid was pure back in the day, My God
- 58:00Speaker 2: like the planet is the basic Jesus. The best part
- 58:05Speaker 2: of this and I stepped on fairy guards to the
- 58:07Speaker 2: galaxy to by the way Ego and all that other stuff,
- 58:09Speaker 2: but go ahead.
- 58:10Speaker 1: The best part of the story for me was when
- 58:14Speaker 1: it's actually lanterns are talking among themselves in the one
- 58:17Speaker 1: older lantern's tone and new lantern about the story, and
- 58:20Speaker 1: they're like, well, and then one day I'll tell you
- 58:21Speaker 1: about the real big lanterns. So Mogo ain't even the biggest,
- 58:27Speaker 1: you know in this universe. Mogo doesn't. I mean, I
- 58:31Speaker 1: think you know, yeah, I think hal knows the story
- 58:34Speaker 1: of Mogo. So that's why you use that first code,
- 58:36Speaker 1: so you know.
- 58:37Speaker 2: I mean, it's just floating this space right now.
- 58:39Speaker 1: Yes, that's amazing, and Mogo talks all that. I love Mogo, like,
- 58:43Speaker 1: Mogo is one of my There are so many dope,
- 58:46Speaker 1: weird ass green lanterns, but Mogo has always been one
- 58:49Speaker 1: of my favorite ones.
- 58:51Speaker 6: I think my favorite is the squirrel.
- 58:55Speaker 1: Yeah is amazing.
- 58:57Speaker 2: It's like with the Apostrophe Chick.
- 59:01Speaker 1: It's Apostrophe P. Yeah, amazing. I've always loved that, dude, Like,
- 59:08Speaker 1: I mean, how can you not like? All right, before
- 59:11Speaker 1: we wrap up the one other thing and this difp
- 59:13Speaker 1: back to the whole big mystery thing. Is someone one
- 59:17Speaker 1: another commentary. I'm not know their names, but on the
- 59:20Speaker 1: live they made this point and I wasn't sure that
- 59:23Speaker 1: they were gonna go like I said about the black
- 59:25Speaker 1: lanterns and all that, but it seems that the red
- 59:28Speaker 1: lanterns are coming in or we're seeing the early version
- 59:32Speaker 1: of them with those aliens who kidnap John because the
- 59:36Speaker 1: story they tell about how they were genocide and everything
- 59:40Speaker 1: is very similar to the origin story of Atrocious the
- 59:45Speaker 1: Lead Red lantern. So there's a possibility of debt right there,
- 59:53Speaker 1: you know, so I don't know. And there's another line
- 59:56Speaker 1: in that conversation that was very important to me that
- 59:58Speaker 1: I wanted to point out is when says, you know one,
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: he talks about how he has been portrayed by someone
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: he loves, which I think I was thinking it was
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: the dad, but I think it might be the mom now,
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: which would lead to his mother issues and all that,
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: and why we haven't seen him talk to the mom
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: in the current timeline or in the you know presence.
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: But the other part of it is he says, you
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: don't recruit someone you know by Ashley you do, you
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: gotta do it subtly. So he's been recruited before. I mean,
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: we know he's been recruited for the Marines all that,
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: But I feel like that was more about talking about
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: the Lantern Corps and all that and how he got
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: recruited to be at least a trainee.
- 1:00:38Speaker 2: M You mentioned the word subtlety. That just reminded me
- 1:00:42Speaker 2: of like maybe more individual points that I wanted to
- 1:00:46Speaker 2: make sure I mentioned the you know, the subtlety and
- 1:00:50Speaker 2: use as I mentioned, like they're to me, they're putting
- 1:00:54Speaker 2: the stories of these DC characters on a much more
- 1:00:59Speaker 2: grander scale than I I've remembered it being up until then.
- 1:01:02Speaker 2: Until now it's giving it much more respect. It's making
- 1:01:05Speaker 2: it have much more power and much more influence, and
- 1:01:07Speaker 2: it just making me feel one that when we were
- 1:01:12Speaker 2: looking at how this new DC universe, since live action
- 1:01:16Speaker 2: universe is being constructed, and to my great you know, happiness,
- 1:01:20Speaker 2: it feels like it's not centered on Batman or Superman.
- 1:01:23Speaker 2: In fact, if they play their cards right, Lantern could
- 1:01:27Speaker 2: potentially be the centerpiece, particularly because of how much energy
- 1:01:32Speaker 2: they put into like the mythos of it and what
- 1:01:35Speaker 2: we're seeing. I mentioned that I felt like a good weight,
- 1:01:37Speaker 2: but a heavyweight when we saw the suits and when
- 1:01:39Speaker 2: we saw the lantern and you know, the little pocket
- 1:01:41Speaker 2: dimension and all this other stuff, like it felt like
- 1:01:44Speaker 2: it mattered. And it's feeling that way even in like
- 1:01:49Speaker 2: how the characters approach it, Like in the last episode,
- 1:01:52Speaker 2: how it is when when Jordan, she's I keep saying Jordan,
- 1:01:55Speaker 2: but when John was like, why you don't wear the suit,
- 1:01:57Speaker 2: and how it's like there's like the time and the place,
- 1:01:59Speaker 2: and then that the end of this episode, he actually
- 1:02:01Speaker 2: dons the suit when he's going to go see scenestra,
- 1:02:04Speaker 2: like when you talk about the importance of things, So
- 1:02:06Speaker 2: also not spamming us with nostalgia, not spamming us with iconography, Right,
- 1:02:11Speaker 2: that is one of the things that gives more weight
- 1:02:14Speaker 2: to when a character is in the full regalia and
- 1:02:17Speaker 2: and is you know, whether it's going to battle or
- 1:02:19Speaker 2: it's going to have a conversation, Like it really matters.
- 1:02:22Speaker 2: And I think that again, if they just continue on
- 1:02:25Speaker 2: this path, we're going to see something special occur. Well,
- 1:02:28Speaker 2: we put more respect on the DC name because I
- 1:02:30Speaker 2: gotta say, like, I mean, I know, BJ you're the
- 1:02:32Speaker 2: big DC guy here, but like when we're talking about
- 1:02:35Speaker 2: from a cinematic perspective, that respect has been dwindling exponentially,
- 1:02:39Speaker 2: right with the exception of the millions of Batman's that
- 1:02:43Speaker 2: you know come down the pipeline, Like it's not the
- 1:02:46Speaker 2: same level of when you saw with the MCU. Now
- 1:02:48Speaker 2: that full chrumb is. You know that this now new
- 1:02:51Speaker 2: full compoint is actually changing the dynamic a lot. So
- 1:02:55Speaker 2: I wanted to just mention that like that that it
- 1:02:58Speaker 2: really matters how they playround with again were calling them props,
- 1:03:02Speaker 2: but like these are like huge pieces of this history
- 1:03:06Speaker 2: that is going to like way whether or not people
- 1:03:09Speaker 2: really care about the show and these characters and where
- 1:03:11Speaker 2: the story is going. The mention there's a lot of
- 1:03:14Speaker 2: mention of bison, and I'm me and Ben are are
- 1:03:16Speaker 2: Howard grass Hu Okay, I get triggered when I see
- 1:03:21Speaker 2: the word bis it right, and I so in a
- 1:03:23Speaker 2: couple of times, you know, with Earl eating beef and bison,
- 1:03:26Speaker 2: I was just like, okay, is that in the It's
- 1:03:28Speaker 2: just that of connection to Nebraska because apparently the Nebraska
- 1:03:31Speaker 2: team there there their mascot is a bison. This is minor,
- 1:03:36Speaker 2: but I was triggered by it. The plural of bison
- 1:03:38Speaker 2: is bison. There's no S on the end. So in
- 1:03:41Speaker 2: the field when how was out there, uh, there was
- 1:03:44Speaker 2: a sign that said Bison's win or Bison's charge or
- 1:03:47Speaker 2: whatever like that, I'm like, there's no fucking s. But anyway,
- 1:03:49Speaker 2: that's not either heard nor there. I just wanted to
- 1:03:50Speaker 2: make that point.
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: Maybe a black person made the song.
- 1:03:52Speaker 6: Did you see that last week?
- 1:03:54Speaker 5: Because no, no, Howard Howard put out a post last
- 1:03:58Speaker 5: week like welcoming the ice and back, and they got
- 1:04:02Speaker 5: on the social media guy because it was like it's
- 1:04:04Speaker 5: not bisons.
- 1:04:08Speaker 2: Wow, jeezus, that's like, that's one of the worst, one
- 1:04:11Speaker 2: of the many of the worst things you can do
- 1:04:13Speaker 2: to a Howard dy a Howard alarm.
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: Don't person on everything.
- 1:04:18Speaker 6: I know that one. Listen, I'm gonna go to Klogers,
- 1:04:21Speaker 6: but I'm not gonna say bisons.
- 1:04:24Speaker 1: If this show wasn't called Lanterns, I would be calling
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: it that. Trust me.
- 1:04:28Speaker 2: Akin to what like what we try to do on
- 1:04:31Speaker 2: our shows is also like point out the little details
- 1:04:33Speaker 2: that will have greater impact. When how and Homegirl was
- 1:04:37Speaker 2: in front of making ranch and I noticed a sign
- 1:04:39Speaker 2: in front of the ranch, and that might have been
- 1:04:41Speaker 2: the first time, but it said study the past.
- 1:04:45Speaker 4: That's the name of the ranch. The name of the
- 1:04:46Speaker 4: hot the ranch is studied the past.
- 1:04:48Speaker 1: Yep.
- 1:04:49Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:04:49Speaker 2: Now we've both figuratively and literally, we've we've seen and
- 1:04:55Speaker 2: heard many of the catches talk about the past. The
- 1:04:57Speaker 2: way the whole show right now is is constructed is
- 1:05:01Speaker 2: bouncing back and forth between the past. We're still in
- 1:05:03Speaker 2: the past apparently right now as we continue on, and
- 1:05:06Speaker 2: the fact that you really need to study the detail,
- 1:05:08Speaker 2: study the people, study the moves that they make, study
- 1:05:10Speaker 2: study just everything Macan keeps talking about the people, the
- 1:05:15Speaker 2: people who live there back in the day, you know,
- 1:05:17Speaker 2: the original tribes, Sue and all the people, and how
- 1:05:20Speaker 2: he's trying to stop that from happening again. Why not
- 1:05:23Speaker 2: to say that you can't be a history buff But
- 1:05:25Speaker 2: like why is he so interested in like why does
- 1:05:27Speaker 2: he keep using that as his reference about not being colonized?
- 1:05:31Speaker 2: Is he have some connection to that? You know, yes
- 1:05:33Speaker 2: he's a white man, but is there some type of
- 1:05:35Speaker 2: other connection there that we don't know?
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: Because, like I say, whoever is this man hunter or
- 1:05:38Speaker 1: whether it's the sheriff or whether it's his wife has
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: been feeding them this information that you could get Colin's
- 1:05:45Speaker 1: at any point. There are aliens out there who will
- 1:05:47Speaker 1: run through you. Here I got the guns for you.
- 1:05:50Speaker 4: Though, I think the more important notes there from Study
- 1:05:54Speaker 4: the Past being the name of the ranch being that
- 1:05:59Speaker 4: it gives me kind.
- 1:06:01Speaker 3: Of like a ros phos kind of situation of.
- 1:06:03Speaker 4: Like the crash landing of Alvincer likely happened on.
- 1:06:10Speaker 3: The location of that ranch.
- 1:06:11Speaker 4: Study the Past means like whatever, they're Hodden on that
- 1:06:16Speaker 4: land because they're not just like being protective of like
- 1:06:21Speaker 4: the each other, or they're not being a militia for
- 1:06:24Speaker 4: the town. They're protecting people coming into that property. So
- 1:06:29Speaker 4: there are things that happened in the past literally on
- 1:06:33Speaker 4: that land that they do not want people to get into.
- 1:06:36Speaker 6: Know.
- 1:06:36Speaker 4: So how getting shot by the sniper despite being told
- 1:06:40Speaker 4: not to do that, to come out to property, that
- 1:06:42Speaker 4: was a lesson not just in power and stakeholding and
- 1:06:46Speaker 4: you know, power lying where you believe it to lie,
- 1:06:49Speaker 4: It was a lesson in they do not want anyone
- 1:06:54Speaker 4: who has any information about anything related to aliens that
- 1:07:00Speaker 4: to be on that land and make any suspicious clues
- 1:07:05Speaker 4: and theories about what happened in that place before. And
- 1:07:09Speaker 4: I wonder if that is the sight of Alvin Sar's
- 1:07:12Speaker 4: crash landing, what was hal doing in that airspace at
- 1:07:16Speaker 4: that time? Where did he actually meet Alvincer? Like, so
- 1:07:20Speaker 4: there's just like a lot of mystery, Like there's something
- 1:07:22Speaker 4: but it's something specifically about that ranch, something specifically about
- 1:07:26Speaker 4: nineteen eighty six and whenever how got the ring Alvincer Manhunters.
- 1:07:31Speaker 4: There's just like a lot of questions around that space
- 1:07:34Speaker 4: that I think.
- 1:07:37Speaker 3: The name of the ranch is a clue to that.
- 1:07:38Speaker 4: It's not just because we get we keep getting told
- 1:07:41Speaker 4: the history of the land as known by earthlings, but
- 1:07:47Speaker 4: that is for a reason. That is because that's what
- 1:07:50Speaker 4: Macan wants you to keep hearing from him. He's not
- 1:07:53Speaker 4: telling you about the thing he doesn't want you to
- 1:07:55Speaker 4: hear from from him. So I think that's a really
- 1:07:58Speaker 4: good kind of like misdirection kind of thing. And like,
- 1:08:02Speaker 4: while we're on things, you want to point out I
- 1:08:03Speaker 4: did want to point out that the same It's kind
- 1:08:08Speaker 4: of like the flip of John letting the bird go
- 1:08:14Speaker 4: going at the same time as how puts on the
- 1:08:17Speaker 4: suit that he says he doesn't want to wear. Like
- 1:08:19Speaker 4: their willingness to like do things that are against what
- 1:08:24Speaker 4: they actually want to do against self abandonment is really
- 1:08:27Speaker 4: interesting and they both have it in interesting ways, and
- 1:08:29Speaker 4: that might be vital to like the idea of like
- 1:08:32Speaker 4: willpower and being a green lantern.
- 1:08:34Speaker 3: Like want to dig into that at some point.
- 1:08:36Speaker 4: And also the fact that he meets up with Sinestro,
- 1:08:39Speaker 4: and when he says to Sinestro, what do you know
- 1:08:42Speaker 4: about manhunters? Sinestro's like, okay, Like we can talk about manhunters,
- 1:08:46Speaker 4: but it's not even your greatest threat right now. And
- 1:08:48Speaker 4: the first thing that comes out of his mouth after
- 1:08:49Speaker 4: he says you're great, Like what your greatest threat is?
- 1:08:53Speaker 3: John? Tell me about John?
- 1:08:55Speaker 4: And so it's it's like a clear parallel of like, yes,
- 1:08:59Speaker 4: How was the one who was Scenestra's downfall, so like
- 1:09:03Speaker 4: protege to protege, like that can be your biggest direct
- 1:09:05Speaker 4: kind of situation. I don't know, again, don't know if
- 1:09:08Speaker 4: this is a misdirection from us from the writers for
- 1:09:10Speaker 4: us to like consider that this is the lane that
- 1:09:14Speaker 4: How might go on, or that Sinestra might point him to,
- 1:09:16Speaker 4: or that's just kind of like where we're leaving a
- 1:09:19Speaker 4: greater conversation where we talk about a greater threat and
- 1:09:23Speaker 4: John might be the key to like getting into that.
- 1:09:26Speaker 4: So that's interesting to me. I also think it's like
- 1:09:30Speaker 4: just like the idea that the Manhunters being part of,
- 1:09:35Speaker 4: like then when you were bringing that at like the
- 1:09:37Speaker 4: theories around Mandhunters and how it is that Sinestro went
- 1:09:42Speaker 4: on his whole trajectory the go gets the Guardians. I
- 1:09:47Speaker 4: just I don't know, it's interesting that what has been
- 1:09:51Speaker 4: revealed prior to us being privy to what's going on
- 1:09:55Speaker 4: in this universe, like with off screen versus what we're
- 1:09:57Speaker 4: going to get on screen, like why would Sinestro and
- 1:10:00Speaker 4: John have already I mean, and how already had had
- 1:10:02Speaker 4: some part of this conversation before.
- 1:10:05Speaker 3: It's interesting to me.
- 1:10:07Speaker 4: And then my final thing was that in the after
- 1:10:09Speaker 4: show they mentioned that where Hell is like in middle
- 1:10:14Speaker 4: age is that he's seeing that there's more road behind
- 1:10:19Speaker 4: him than ahead of him when it comes to life
- 1:10:21Speaker 4: and like the career and journey and everything like that,
- 1:10:25Speaker 4: So when it comes to love, life and everything else,
- 1:10:29Speaker 4: like his home is like a symbol for home not
- 1:10:32Speaker 4: really being a home, and his life really isn't a life.
- 1:10:37Speaker 4: And so when we see him in Sinestro, that's why
- 1:10:39Speaker 4: I've questions about like what was the tenor of their relationship,
- 1:10:43Speaker 4: because why are we just now having these deeper conversations.
- 1:10:50Speaker 2: House is not a home, that's a fact, right.
- 1:10:52Speaker 6: Chair is still a chair though, But.
- 1:10:57Speaker 5: So with that, I picked up the same thing you
- 1:11:01Speaker 5: did with you know ut saying you know, John's your
- 1:11:05Speaker 5: greatest threat. And of course, like Sneestroe becomes like a
- 1:11:09Speaker 5: yellow lantern core leader, right, and if we're going on
- 1:11:13Speaker 5: the emotional spectrum, like yellow represents fear, and so I'm like,
- 1:11:17Speaker 5: in that moment, maybe snee stro's just messing with How
- 1:11:20Speaker 5: trying to plant that fear like this dude is here
- 1:11:22Speaker 5: to replace you, you know, Tucker Carlson and all that.
- 1:11:26Speaker 5: But then you know it's also just like, okay, well,
- 1:11:29Speaker 5: what how is John perceived right now? Like because their
- 1:11:36Speaker 5: relationship is contentious in the first episode. Obviously, by the
- 1:11:41Speaker 5: end of How's life, there's great reverence there because he's
- 1:11:43Speaker 5: crying when he sees his dead body or what he
- 1:11:46Speaker 5: believes is his dead body. But then even along the
- 1:11:50Speaker 5: lines of yellow, right, like you brought up Ben just
- 1:11:53Speaker 5: the maybe the Red Lancers are here, but when I
- 1:11:56Speaker 5: saw them like you know, hit him with the gun
- 1:11:58Speaker 5: to show them their memories, that was yellow.
- 1:12:01Speaker 6: I'm like, Okay, is there a parallax at work here? Like,
- 1:12:04Speaker 6: what's what's going on? For real? So I'm just curious
- 1:12:08Speaker 6: to see where they go with it, m all right.
- 1:12:11Speaker 1: Well, a couple of last things as well, because you
- 1:12:14Speaker 1: were talking about loss and love and life. Another character
- 1:12:17Speaker 1: that I haven't looked to see if they were cast
- 1:12:20Speaker 1: or even in this series, but that plays a big
- 1:12:22Speaker 1: part with how is Carol Ferris? And Carol is like
- 1:12:26Speaker 1: the Mary Jane to how you know Peter Parker and
- 1:12:35Speaker 1: the fact that she's not been seen. You know, we
- 1:12:37Speaker 1: don't see any type of love life for how But
- 1:12:40Speaker 1: like Portia said, he's already had a lot of life,
- 1:12:43Speaker 1: you know, so maybe she was already there. He's already
- 1:12:45Speaker 1: lost her. Now back to the bigger picture. One thing
- 1:12:50Speaker 1: that James Dunn said a while back that didn't really
- 1:12:52Speaker 1: made sense to me then was how important lanyards was
- 1:12:56Speaker 1: to the bigger picture of the DCU. And one of
- 1:13:00Speaker 1: the biggest or most well known events ever come out
- 1:13:04Speaker 1: of Green Lantern was Blackest Night, where the Black Lanterns
- 1:13:08Speaker 1: rise up and a bunch of zombie five versions of
- 1:13:11Speaker 1: a lot of DC characters become Black Lanterns. And we've
- 1:13:14Speaker 1: already seen hints that the Black Lanterns are involved. We've
- 1:13:17Speaker 1: seen hints that the Red Lanterns are involved in this,
- 1:13:20Speaker 1: you know, the Sinestro Coors. So we're definitely and I
- 1:13:23Speaker 1: knew that, and I said that before that when I
- 1:13:25Speaker 1: saw the show was named Lanterns, that that we were
- 1:13:28Speaker 1: going to get into all the different various colors of
- 1:13:32Speaker 1: the lantern cores and all that, that it wasn't just
- 1:13:34Speaker 1: going to be about green lanterns. You know, that was
- 1:13:37Speaker 1: my guess from early so that seems to be the case,
- 1:13:40Speaker 1: and I feel like that might be the big mega event.
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: I don't know if they would build to that like
- 1:13:45Speaker 1: Black at Night, I don't know. I'm one of those
- 1:13:47Speaker 1: people who find Black and Life to be a big
- 1:13:48Speaker 1: corny Zombies are always a big corner to me. It started
- 1:13:51Speaker 1: off really dope, but I can't lie, so, you know
- 1:13:53Speaker 1: it did. It just kind of fell apart at the
- 1:13:54Speaker 1: end with white lads. You know, it's just okay, whenever
- 1:14:00Speaker 1: you introduced a white lantern as the greatest lantern, it's just.
- 1:14:04Speaker 2: Yeah, sounds like the premacy there.
- 1:14:08Speaker 1: Yeah, and it was a white dude who was the
- 1:14:11Speaker 1: white lantern?
- 1:14:12Speaker 5: You know.
- 1:14:12Speaker 1: It was just like Blackest Night started off so dope
- 1:14:16Speaker 1: and then it just got to that and.
- 1:14:17Speaker 2: Was something like robes andods.
- 1:14:20Speaker 1: Yeah. I just did not feel good, you know, just
- 1:14:26Speaker 1: I guess I'm in here.
- 1:14:27Speaker 2: Yeah, So, so, so what's going on? Yeah, just about
- 1:14:31Speaker 2: like what to look for going forward? I saw in
- 1:14:33Speaker 2: the preview, I think the next episode. I mean, they've
- 1:14:36Speaker 2: been moving so far ahead in the previews and we're
- 1:14:38Speaker 2: not exactly there, but it looks like he might get
- 1:14:41Speaker 2: to the Guardians in the next episode, at least John
- 1:14:43Speaker 2: will and had that conversation. You know, they asked you,
- 1:14:45Speaker 2: you know say most people at this point asked why me?
- 1:14:47Speaker 2: You know, why did I get chosen? John says he
- 1:14:50Speaker 2: knows why, and you know, giving something that backstory, are
- 1:14:53Speaker 2: we going to see like the literal scenes of what
- 1:14:56Speaker 2: happened when he was a child and when the lanterns
- 1:14:59Speaker 2: or ring came to him, Like what we're gonna see?
- 1:15:04Speaker 1: I think so? I think we're also we also saw
- 1:15:06Speaker 1: his father shoot at the television spring when he sees
- 1:15:10Speaker 1: how in his original costume fully done up in the past,
- 1:15:13Speaker 1: I think we're gonna get a lot more flashback and
- 1:15:16Speaker 1: see a lot of like you know, early Hall and
- 1:15:19Speaker 1: early John. So perhaps we do get some answer to
- 1:15:23Speaker 1: you know what crash there, Why did Avansar have the
- 1:15:26Speaker 1: Man Hunter? Did Sinestro have the Man Hunter? You know,
- 1:15:30Speaker 1: all these type of things. We're definitely gonna see some
- 1:15:32Speaker 1: more of that conversation or at least the aftermath of
- 1:15:35Speaker 1: the conversation with Sinatro, So we'll definitely get more of
- 1:15:37Speaker 1: that information as well.
- 1:15:38Speaker 2: So, yeah, bj unfortuate, what do you guys want to
- 1:15:41Speaker 2: see or think we're going to see?
- 1:15:43Speaker 6: I don't know. I mean, I'm I'm excited.
- 1:15:45Speaker 5: Really, I'm intrigued by Ben's theory that John Senior, you know,
- 1:15:49Speaker 5: perhaps was passed up for the role of Lantern and
- 1:15:52Speaker 5: then how got it? So that's why he's so invested
- 1:15:55Speaker 5: in Okay, like what's going on and like when my
- 1:15:57Speaker 5: son has a chance, he's gonna be ready. I love
- 1:16:00Speaker 5: that as an idea. But I also just to your
- 1:16:04Speaker 5: point about the h the Man, well just lanterns really
- 1:16:07Speaker 5: having a chance to expand the universe. I think it
- 1:16:10Speaker 5: was really smart to make this a TV series because
- 1:16:14Speaker 5: all the criticism of the DC us like why are
- 1:16:16Speaker 5: we looking so hard at Superman and like, you know,
- 1:16:20Speaker 5: super why would we leave with Superman then Supergirl? But
- 1:16:23Speaker 5: like in the comics, the Manhunter or the Guardians are
- 1:16:26Speaker 5: like basically the architects of the DC universe as the
- 1:16:28Speaker 5: oldest beings, and so so much of what we know
- 1:16:32Speaker 5: about DC's spawns from all this deep Lord that we're
- 1:16:36Speaker 5: gonna end up well hopefully end up looking at through
- 1:16:38Speaker 5: this Lantern show. So making this a TV series as
- 1:16:41Speaker 5: opposed to a two hour movie like Chalk full of
- 1:16:44Speaker 5: space effects and stuff like, it's dope. I really want
- 1:16:48Speaker 5: to get to what makes John tick emotionally, because like,
- 1:16:54Speaker 5: having willpower is cool, but it's you know, it's like
- 1:16:58Speaker 5: courage isn't the absence of fear, but it's like you
- 1:17:00Speaker 5: move on despite it, so it's not Okay. What is
- 1:17:03Speaker 5: it that really drives John emotionally as opposed to like
- 1:17:06Speaker 5: just following order to just being stoic?
- 1:17:08Speaker 6: What makes him really worthy? I'm excited to dig into that.
- 1:17:12Speaker 4: On that note, I do think that, like it's interesting
- 1:17:16Speaker 4: that the one thing that he tells how that isn't
- 1:17:22Speaker 4: specifically something that we heard. I don't remember hearing a
- 1:17:27Speaker 4: non or his group mentioning.
- 1:17:28Speaker 3: That's to him.
- 1:17:30Speaker 4: That it's like actually kind of exceptional that he's able
- 1:17:34Speaker 4: to have that construct without the ring and.
- 1:17:41Speaker 3: The fact that like how it's just kind of like yeah,
- 1:17:43Speaker 3: I mean, sure whatever.
- 1:17:45Speaker 4: I think that the previews showing like Jasmine Seph has
- 1:17:50Speaker 4: shown as like the young version of his mom makes
- 1:17:53Speaker 4: me interested in seeing like what because I think again,
- 1:17:56Speaker 4: the order of it, all of the writing we see
- 1:17:58Speaker 4: this bird represents into it end this episode and a
- 1:18:01Speaker 4: preview of seeing his young mother and the next episode,
- 1:18:05Speaker 4: and I feel like we're going to see some of
- 1:18:06Speaker 4: those parallels and what that means. We also get a
- 1:18:09Speaker 4: glimpse of his mother seeing him with the apple on
- 1:18:15Speaker 4: his head and his father pointing a gun like she's witnessing. Yeah.
- 1:18:18Speaker 4: So I'm it's interesting because I think Ben has mentioned like, oh,
- 1:18:23Speaker 4: like is it his mom who's the betrayer or the
- 1:18:25Speaker 4: one who's deceived him or whatever in his past or whatever?
- 1:18:28Speaker 3: And I'm like, is it not his parents? Is it not?
- 1:18:30Speaker 3: Like it could like and we've been it could be
- 1:18:32Speaker 3: inches so many times. It could be. It could be
- 1:18:35Speaker 3: so many people who deceived him in the past.
- 1:18:38Speaker 4: So as like BJ's talking about, like what makes him tick,
- 1:18:42Speaker 4: there's just so many layers in that. And I feel
- 1:18:44Speaker 4: like next episode, it seems like we're probably gonna get
- 1:18:47Speaker 4: a pretty John centric episode, and I hope we do
- 1:18:49Speaker 4: because I think we before we can move on in
- 1:18:51Speaker 4: the series, it would really help us to know, like
- 1:18:53Speaker 4: what are we working with here?
- 1:18:56Speaker 1: Mm hm. One last note I want to say is
- 1:18:59Speaker 1: Air and Pa is doing a fantastic job on this show.
- 1:19:03Speaker 1: Like Kyle, we all knows and established talent. I know Aaron.
- 1:19:07Speaker 1: I saw him in that Uh what's that Ruby Ridget?
- 1:19:13Speaker 1: I love that film, and he was braiding it, but
- 1:19:17Speaker 1: to capture the stoicness of John, you know, and then
- 1:19:20Speaker 1: still be able to deliver emotion at the same time.
- 1:19:24Speaker 1: It's really well done. So I really want to give
- 1:19:26Speaker 1: him his props. Everyone on this show so far has been,
- 1:19:29Speaker 1: you know, really great, but I really just want to
- 1:19:32Speaker 1: take a second and give Aaron, you know, some shout
- 1:19:34Speaker 1: outs right there. I think that's about it once again, BJ,
- 1:19:38Speaker 1: thank you for joining us. Make sure everyone go follow him,
