- 0:02Speaker 1: This is an Unspoiled Network podcast. This is spoil Me,
- 0:09Speaker 1: covering one Piece episodes eight seventy five, eight seventy six
- 0:16Speaker 1: and also the cover story solo Journey of Jinbei Night
- 0:22Speaker 1: of the Sea. In these episodes, Big Mom finally eats
- 0:29Speaker 1: some cake. I'm very happy for her. Welcome to spoil Me,
- 0:54Speaker 1: Welcome to the show. Everyone. I am Natasha. Thank you
- 0:58Speaker 1: very much to Florian for commissioning this episode. And Florian
- 1:03Speaker 1: is here in the chat along with Seraphim when they
- 1:05Speaker 1: were very patient when I was not going live the
- 1:08Speaker 1: way that I should have been. So this is what
- 1:14Speaker 1: I have been waiting for this entire time, as you
- 1:17Speaker 1: all know, and it never occurred to me and it
- 1:22Speaker 1: should have that we saw everyone who took a taste
- 1:26Speaker 1: of this cake fall over, So of course Big Mom
- 1:32Speaker 1: is going to fall over. But I just didn't think
- 1:37Speaker 1: of it, guys, I really didn't. So there has been
- 1:39Speaker 1: this paranoia amongst her people that she is going to
- 1:45Speaker 1: be poisoned because it came from their enemies, and at
- 1:50Speaker 1: first it very much looks like that's exactly what they did,
- 1:55Speaker 1: because like, I'm not mad at them making this assumption
- 2:00Speaker 1: a food that's so good that it makes you literally
- 2:02Speaker 1: fall down sounds a bit far fetched, let's be honest.
- 2:07Speaker 1: So I'll I'll tell you guys what though, because there
- 2:13Speaker 1: is a whole thing that I kind of expected that
- 2:17Speaker 1: we don't get here. I'm gonna kind of zero in
- 2:22Speaker 1: on this, and then I will back up and talk
- 2:24Speaker 1: about everything else that goes on with Jim Bay, both
- 2:28Speaker 1: in these episodes and also in the cover story, which
- 2:33Speaker 1: I'm going to go ahead and post the link for
- 2:36Speaker 1: the cover story in the show notes in case anybody
- 2:39Speaker 1: has missed it and is interested. Thank you to Florian
- 2:43Speaker 1: for messaging me with it. It's a really weird, like
- 2:49Speaker 1: I keep forgetting the way that this works. But it's
- 2:54Speaker 1: not as if it's a story that is told in
- 2:57Speaker 1: a normal way. It's like a like single panel installments
- 3:03Speaker 1: over time in such a manner that each is like
- 3:10Speaker 1: I imagine that each of these would have been its
- 3:13Speaker 1: own episode if we were handling things a little differently.
- 3:16Speaker 1: If not, then maybe every two or three would be
- 3:20Speaker 1: its own episode. But the way that the show tends
- 3:23Speaker 1: to stretch things out, I feel like it's not unfair
- 3:25Speaker 1: to say each would be its own episode. But it
- 3:30Speaker 1: is funny because there's like a whole investigation thing that occurs,
- 3:36Speaker 1: and I would not have been mad at jinbay Svu
- 3:43Speaker 1: if we got it. If we decided that that was
- 3:46Speaker 1: going to be his role is that he is the
- 3:50Speaker 1: detective of the c's. I actually feel like that suits
- 3:54Speaker 1: him quite well as a character. My complaint about him
- 3:58Speaker 1: is that he tends to be kind of boring and
- 4:02Speaker 1: while a good dude with skills that's like practically very helpful,
- 4:08Speaker 1: I don't find him that compelling a character. But if
- 4:12Speaker 1: you throw him into a murder mystery perhaps this wasn't
- 4:16Speaker 1: a murder mystery the cover story, just to be clear,
- 4:18Speaker 1: but like, just for example, I could see growing to
- 4:22Speaker 1: like him a lot better if he's given a bit
- 4:26Speaker 1: more to do. That's like cerebral in this way, where
- 4:30Speaker 1: seriousness would work quite well, and potentially like his own
- 4:36Speaker 1: type of humor could come out also. So I think
- 4:40Speaker 1: maybe a fanfic is in order, And if anybody listening
- 4:45Speaker 1: wants to write that, let me know you've written it,
- 4:47Speaker 1: and I will read the hell out of it. Uh.
- 4:51Speaker 1: Florien says they are not that important, but gives us
- 4:54Speaker 1: some background info. And since these were two EPs only,
- 4:57Speaker 1: I thought to throw it in. Oh yeah, and I
- 5:00Speaker 1: I have been really bad about responding to messages lately, guys.
- 5:04Speaker 1: I'm so sorry. I have just had like a bunch
- 5:06Speaker 1: of weird things going on at home, and so I
- 5:10Speaker 1: have just been a little less attentive to stuff than
- 5:12Speaker 1: I normally am. And Florian when I tell you that
- 5:17Speaker 1: you messaged me about only covering two episodes this time,
- 5:24Speaker 1: literally while I was in the final five minutes of
- 5:28Speaker 1: the second episode. I am not kidding. You messaged me
- 5:32Speaker 1: just in time because I was like minutes away from
- 5:35Speaker 1: proceeding onto the third episode. So yeah, that worked out
- 5:41Speaker 1: really well, Sarahim says JIMBEI PI and yes, I like
- 5:46Speaker 1: it underwater style. Yeah, what is SVUS stand for it
- 5:51Speaker 1: Special Victims Unit? So he would be like OVU Ocean
- 5:57Speaker 1: Victims Unit. I like it. I feel like it works.
- 6:01Speaker 1: I think that's fair. So we'll get to that in
- 6:06Speaker 1: a moment because it sort of also like seems to
- 6:10Speaker 1: tie together the appearance of our giant baby character leader
- 6:16Speaker 1: who I know his name is like Watanabe something like that,
- 6:23Speaker 1: but I never remember. Sorry, guys, So let us begin
- 6:30Speaker 1: with episode eight seventy five, A captivating flavor Songy's Cake
- 6:36Speaker 1: of Happiness. You guys remember me talking about how I
- 6:44Speaker 1: was worried whether Big Mom would be triggered into another
- 6:50Speaker 1: like cannibalistic incident, right. I genuinely wondered if being in
- 7:00Speaker 1: the midst of that craving when she was a kid,
- 7:04Speaker 1: and then being presented with this food that was exactly
- 7:07Speaker 1: what she wanted and there it was so good and
- 7:08Speaker 1: there was so much of it, I wondered if she
- 7:12Speaker 1: was going to wind up doing something like that this
- 7:15Speaker 1: time where she starts to like eat people from the
- 7:19Speaker 1: ships around her. And honestly, there are some moments within
- 7:29Speaker 1: the episode animation that I feel are kind of misleading
- 7:34Speaker 1: or at least like don't fully make sense to me,
- 7:37Speaker 1: because the expressions on the faces of everybody on the
- 7:42Speaker 1: Big Sonny are such that it looks like they are
- 7:46Speaker 1: reacting to her eating people like it. They are so
- 7:51Speaker 1: horrified and terrified at the same time while she's eating
- 7:57Speaker 1: this cake, And it just didn't make sense to me why,
- 8:02Speaker 1: because the whole thing is that she's eating the cake
- 8:05Speaker 1: and so has stopped chasing you, which is what you want.
- 8:10Speaker 1: So when their faces changed, I really thought, this is it.
- 8:20Speaker 1: She has started to like go after some of the
- 8:22Speaker 1: people around her and is eating the pawns. And I
- 8:27Speaker 1: know that there are actual pawns in her kingdom, and
- 8:31Speaker 1: that is not what I mean, but you get what
- 8:34Speaker 1: I'm saying. I like, I wish that I could. I
- 8:37Speaker 1: know I can screen share with y'all here, but I
- 8:41Speaker 1: want this to be something that is like useful for
- 8:43Speaker 1: the people who are just listening and can't come to
- 8:45Speaker 1: the lives. So I'm not going to try and do
- 8:47Speaker 1: a screen share right now. But if you rewatch this episode,
- 8:51Speaker 1: I think you will see what I'm talking about in
- 8:54Speaker 1: terms of their being like a moment where it looks
- 8:57Speaker 1: like everybody goes from appy hension about what she's going
- 9:02Speaker 1: to do, how she'll react to the cake, to expressions
- 9:06Speaker 1: of such horrified terror that I assumed she was doing
- 9:12Speaker 1: something that was like absolutely shocking, and instead I think
- 9:17Speaker 1: they're just reacting to her voracious appetite as she eats
- 9:22Speaker 1: the cake. I think that's all it is, but it's
- 9:26Speaker 1: it's like, still, if that is it, their reaction feels
- 9:30Speaker 1: wildly outsized to me and also a little hypocritical, honestly,
- 9:35Speaker 1: like coming from Loufy, coming from Chopper, We've seen you guys,
- 9:41Speaker 1: you ate an entire cafe. I just don't feel like
- 9:45Speaker 1: either of y'all get to be all like, oh, look
- 9:46Speaker 1: at her eat, Like, let's be very fucking for real
- 9:49Speaker 1: right now, you know. Saraphim says she got her devil
- 9:56Speaker 1: fruit by eating someone. If you eat two devil fruits,
- 9:58Speaker 1: you die unless you're black. Somehow would she die if
- 10:02Speaker 1: she ate someone with a fruit? Seraphim here asking the
- 10:05Speaker 1: real questions, Seraphim, that is a very compelling question. I
- 10:13Speaker 1: wonder like it feels like it would have to be.
- 10:16Speaker 1: If eating the person she can absorb all their powers
- 10:20Speaker 1: from the fruit. It's essentially eating the fruit, that person
- 10:24Speaker 1: becomes like a human fruit, not slur like, you do
- 10:28Speaker 1: know what I'm saying. So yeah, I think it would
- 10:30Speaker 1: have to She'd have to be very careful to only
- 10:33Speaker 1: eat the least less important people, which I think is
- 10:37Speaker 1: probably what would happen, simply because the people with fruits
- 10:39Speaker 1: are going to be able to defend themselves a little
- 10:41Speaker 1: bit better. Anyway, I say that with the full understanding
- 10:44Speaker 1: that she managed to eat a devil fruit eater before
- 10:47Speaker 1: who was not able to defend themselves. That lady's ability
- 10:52Speaker 1: doesn't feel like it was really combat focused enough to
- 10:56Speaker 1: be of help. But most of the people here who
- 10:59Speaker 1: have fruits, seems like that would those seem to be
- 11:04Speaker 1: pretty helpful in this respect. I don't know. I don't know.
- 11:10Speaker 1: Florian says. It is a cut back and forth. While
- 11:14Speaker 1: she had her greatest joy, the straw hats were in
- 11:16Speaker 1: horror of being eliminated any moment now, and Saraphim says, yeah,
- 11:21Speaker 1: the straw hats can't see her from there, oh, Florian says,
- 11:26Speaker 1: as a reminder, they are far apart. They are on
- 11:30Speaker 1: a different island. Straw hats shock chocolad Island, Chocolate, Chocolate island, right,
- 11:38Speaker 1: Cacau Island and mom on fluffy Island Chocolate? Is that
- 11:43Speaker 1: how you say chocolate in German? Is that how you
- 11:45Speaker 1: spell it? I'm assuming not, but I'm also it sounds
- 11:51Speaker 1: like so close as I say it. I'm just like,
- 11:53Speaker 1: that's actually it doesn't feel out of the question. Florian says, no,
- 11:58Speaker 1: just super typos. Sorry, shokolad ah, so pretty close. I
- 12:06Speaker 1: feel like that's I don't know, man, I really I
- 12:08Speaker 1: really enjoyed like the pronunciation of certain things in German,
- 12:12Speaker 1: like more than English. Schokolad. I don't know. I like
- 12:16Speaker 1: it so as all of this is happening, by the way,
- 12:21Speaker 1: because we're on Fluffy Island, as we have just been reminded,
- 12:25Speaker 1: which is Chaffon's island. She doesn't want to leave. She
- 12:29Speaker 1: wants to watch this whole thing go down, which I
- 12:33Speaker 1: do get like in terms of the the fact that
- 12:40Speaker 1: you put the work you did into this, that she
- 12:42Speaker 1: has been such a threat to you personally, it's really
- 12:46Speaker 1: hard for me to like walk away after putting that
- 12:51Speaker 1: kind of energy in and not know how it ends,
- 12:54Speaker 1: even if my life is at stake. I like more
- 13:00Speaker 1: so because my life is at stake due to the
- 13:04Speaker 1: fact that I don't want to put all this work
- 13:07Speaker 1: in and then run when maybe I don't have to run.
- 13:12Speaker 1: What if I can stay. What if it works and
- 13:16Speaker 1: I don't have to worry and be on the run anymore,
- 13:20Speaker 1: or I don't have to I can now like celebrate
- 13:24Speaker 1: with my friends, you know. At the same time, if
- 13:28Speaker 1: it works, it doesn't change the fact that Big Mom
- 13:33Speaker 1: hates you. So I guess that's really the difference here,
- 13:39Speaker 1: is the fact that like we have got a situation
- 13:44Speaker 1: that it being resolved doesn't change a major part of
- 13:50Speaker 1: the problem for Chiffon. Suffice to say, her husband finally
- 13:56Speaker 1: draws a line and he just says it ain't worth it,
- 14:00Speaker 1: and he literally picks her up and carts her off
- 14:04Speaker 1: because he has turned his bottom half into that tank
- 14:07Speaker 1: so he is able to you know, carry her away.
- 14:15Speaker 1: But yeah, so we're The whole thing is they are
- 14:17Speaker 1: watching Big Mom approach. Is a lot of her children
- 14:24Speaker 1: are trying to decide whether they should even let her
- 14:27Speaker 1: eat it or not. Peisperro and oh my god, what
- 14:34Speaker 1: is the name of the cheeseman mom door? Right? Is
- 14:39Speaker 1: that you are confusing Chiffon with her twin Lola. I
- 14:45Speaker 1: think no, Big Mom like slapped Chiffon and told her
- 14:49Speaker 1: to fuck off. She hates Cheffon. She doesn't like Lola either,
- 14:57Speaker 1: but like she reacts the same way to Chaffon that
- 15:03Speaker 1: she would to Lola and is basically like, if I
- 15:06Speaker 1: get a chance, I'm gonna fucking kill you. Sorry gys,
- 15:10Speaker 1: but yeah, the the main thing between Montdor and Parispero
- 15:19Speaker 1: is the two of them being like, but it's so
- 15:22Speaker 1: likely that this cake is poisoned, and should we let
- 15:27Speaker 1: her eat it? Because there's like the potential maybe even
- 15:32Speaker 1: if it is poisoned, it doesn't kill her. And if
- 15:37Speaker 1: she can't taste the poison and it doesn't kill her,
- 15:44Speaker 1: we will still come out smelling like roses because she'll
- 15:47Speaker 1: get what she wants and we won't have to worry
- 15:54Speaker 1: about her dying. I'm sorry, I'm so distracted. Sarahin is
- 15:58Speaker 1: saying she hates Lola Cheffon. She just resents for looking
- 16:01Speaker 1: like Lola. Florian says, I think she hates both. To
- 16:04Speaker 1: be honest, she like she said that she would kill
- 16:08Speaker 1: the Cheffon I could swear earlier in this arc, not
- 16:13Speaker 1: super early either, like midway, I thought that they had
- 16:17Speaker 1: a confrontation and she tries to like that. Basically, Mom
- 16:22Speaker 1: has the same reaction to her that Oven has, which
- 16:24Speaker 1: is to basically be like, you're married to a fucking
- 16:27Speaker 1: traitor and thus you are one also. But it doesn't matter.
- 16:34Speaker 1: I think when it comes down to it, it is
- 16:36Speaker 1: just smart for Chiffon to get gone, what like, regardless
- 16:40Speaker 1: of the reason that she reacts the way that she
- 16:44Speaker 1: does to Chiffon. Even if this cake works, Cheffon is
- 16:49Speaker 1: still going to be in trouble. But anyway, so yeah,
- 16:54Speaker 1: if the cake is poisoned but she can't taste it,
- 16:58Speaker 1: we will still wind up with her being pleased with
- 17:01Speaker 1: the cake and not dying. If the cake is actually
- 17:07Speaker 1: poisoned and she can't taste it, this is going to
- 17:11Speaker 1: result in her going on more of a rampage, possibly
- 17:14Speaker 1: destroying that entire island and maybe multiple islands. If the
- 17:21Speaker 1: cake is not poisoned but not good, what if it
- 17:25Speaker 1: doesn't taste as good as she wants it to same result?
- 17:30Speaker 1: And I like that they go through all of these
- 17:33Speaker 1: like what could wait? What if we you know, I
- 17:36Speaker 1: think that this kind of thinking indicates the competence of Perosperro,
- 17:41Speaker 1: which I don't like and I don't want because I
- 17:44Speaker 1: don't like him, but you know, I can't help but
- 17:47Speaker 1: respect it. And so then we see her approach the
- 17:50Speaker 1: cake and she's like, as she's eating it, she begins
- 17:54Speaker 1: to gain weight as she's eating it, so that she
- 17:56Speaker 1: starts to look like herself again, very very quickly, and
- 18:01Speaker 1: she is just like one handful after another. I had thought,
- 18:06Speaker 1: you know when later on when she like collapses, it
- 18:10Speaker 1: takes a little while. Everybody else when they taste it
- 18:14Speaker 1: and they fall down, it's an immediate response, but for her,
- 18:21Speaker 1: it's a little while, and she has many many bites
- 18:25Speaker 1: before she finally falls down, which is I think story wise,
- 18:30Speaker 1: just to generate the tension. But I also buy it
- 18:33Speaker 1: in the fact that she is so huge that it
- 18:36Speaker 1: might take a minute for her to fully register. And
- 18:39Speaker 1: I want to point out as well that there are
- 18:44Speaker 1: only a few moments where we have the camera fully
- 18:46Speaker 1: pulled out and can see the size of it in
- 18:52Speaker 1: comparison to Mom. The cake almost covers the entire island,
- 18:59Speaker 1: like very very close to the whole thing, and Mom
- 19:03Speaker 1: is like perched on the side of the cake, like
- 19:07Speaker 1: she's about to climb a jungle gym or something. The
- 19:11Speaker 1: cake is probably six times as tall as she is.
- 19:16Speaker 1: I also must mention that there are skulls in the icing,
- 19:20Speaker 1: which I don't know if that was part of the
- 19:21Speaker 1: original design, but were I observing this from afar, I
- 19:25Speaker 1: would definitely be concerned that the fact it's decorated with
- 19:28Speaker 1: a bunch of skulls, it's just an indicator that it
- 19:30Speaker 1: is poisoned. I just think that's like suspicious and not
- 19:35Speaker 1: really the design choice I would have gone with all
- 19:38Speaker 1: things considered. But yeah, so as everybody is like waiting
- 19:44Speaker 1: to see how she reacts to it. We have a
- 19:48Speaker 1: memory of Chiffon's where she is yelling at Sanji about
- 19:53Speaker 1: the method he's choosing for the part of this that
- 19:57Speaker 1: he's responsible for making. He is choosing a method that
- 20:02Speaker 1: is going to take two hours, and she is really
- 20:05Speaker 1: frustrated because they do not have time for this, and
- 20:09Speaker 1: he doesn't even really hear her and just says, sorry,
- 20:13Speaker 1: I'm just thinking about Big Mom and how happy she's
- 20:16Speaker 1: going to be once she gets her cake. To what
- 20:20Speaker 1: Cheffon says, who cares if she's happy, she's trying to
- 20:24Speaker 1: kill you? And I'm like, but that's the whole that's
- 20:26Speaker 1: the whole thing, Like what do you mean, who cares?
- 20:29Speaker 1: Why bother doing this, Cheffon? If she's not happy with it,
- 20:33Speaker 1: it's just the point. It's literally the whole thing. If
- 20:37Speaker 1: she's not happy with it, then she's going to keep
- 20:39Speaker 1: terrorizing everybody. So anyway, we cut back and Mom has
- 20:48Speaker 1: dropped the handful of cake, begins to seem to tremble.
- 20:52Speaker 1: We get the zero in on her eyes that are
- 20:55Speaker 1: wide and almost looks scared, and then she falls back
- 21:00Speaker 1: word off the cake and lands with this slam on
- 21:06Speaker 1: the ground where everything is very blue in this moment
- 21:10Speaker 1: because it's nighttime, so we've got this sort of like
- 21:13Speaker 1: I'm gonna call it a filter, even though I understand
- 21:15Speaker 1: that's not what it is, but this is meant to
- 21:17Speaker 1: indicate it's evening. And for a second I thought that
- 21:19Speaker 1: she like fell off the cake into the water, but
- 21:23Speaker 1: it's still the ground, and nobody knows what to think
- 21:28Speaker 1: about why she fell. And then we see her eyes
- 21:33Speaker 1: filled with tears and this like really amazing montage of
- 21:39Speaker 1: her in like what looks like the like walking through
- 21:45Speaker 1: the gates of heaven toward the cake essentially, and she says,
- 21:51Speaker 1: this tastes so lovely, I could die. It's so sweet
- 21:56Speaker 1: and fluffy. Finally, and honestly, I get it, girl, I
- 22:05Speaker 1: really do. I really do when you finally take like,
- 22:11Speaker 1: there's something so deeply frustrating about craving something and not
- 22:15Speaker 1: getting like a shitty like the other day I really
- 22:18Speaker 1: wanted cheesecake. But cheesecake takes a while to make. It's
- 22:22Speaker 1: not even hard to make, but it takes hours because
- 22:25Speaker 1: you have to cook it very slowly, especially if you're
- 22:27Speaker 1: not using a water bath, and then you have to
- 22:29Speaker 1: let it cool in the fridge. So if you want
- 22:31Speaker 1: cheesecake and you make it, you're not getting any until
- 22:34Speaker 1: like the next day probably unless you start making it
- 22:37Speaker 1: eight am. So I went and bought some cheese a slice,
- 22:42Speaker 1: one single solitary slice of cheesecake from Walmart. And I
- 22:48Speaker 1: gotta tell you, guys, it was just so bad. I
- 22:51Speaker 1: knew it wasn't gonna be good. It's Walmart, you know,
- 22:53Speaker 1: it's like, it's not going to be great, but I
- 22:55Speaker 1: thought it would at least scratch the itch. Oh, it
- 22:59Speaker 1: just made it worse. It just made it like I
- 23:05Speaker 1: felt gross after eating it because it just it was
- 23:10Speaker 1: very like dense and heavy in a way, but wasn't satisfying.
- 23:15Speaker 1: And I still wanted real cheesecake. I still want to
- 23:20Speaker 1: like what I make. So suffice to say, I really
- 23:25Speaker 1: could understand her being like, this isn't what I want
- 23:28Speaker 1: and then pitching a complete fit over it. But when
- 23:33Speaker 1: you do get exactly what you want when you have
- 23:36Speaker 1: been craving it, like especially if it's something like fast food,
- 23:42Speaker 1: where sometimes you've gotten this exact item and it's been
- 23:44Speaker 1: kind of like left under a heat lamp and hasn't
- 23:47Speaker 1: been very good, but you take the risk and you
- 23:50Speaker 1: go get the thing you're craving, and it's like fresh
- 23:52Speaker 1: and the perfect version of the thing. Nothing beats it
- 23:57Speaker 1: the best. And then she begins to sing, I'll be honest,
- 24:05Speaker 1: I had forgotten how much of a thing this is.
- 24:08Speaker 1: In this arc. It's like a very it's a very
- 24:12Speaker 1: musical arc. There's something about it, just like I think
- 24:21Speaker 1: had I been told ahead of time that this arc
- 24:23Speaker 1: was going to be kind of musicalish, I would have
- 24:26Speaker 1: been worried about it. Not necessarily dreading it, but I
- 24:31Speaker 1: think I would have been like, oh boy, here we go.
- 24:34Speaker 1: And there is something about the fact that the music
- 24:40Speaker 1: is barely there. The lyrics are sung technically, but there's
- 24:45Speaker 1: not really a melody to it that makes sense, that
- 24:50Speaker 1: keeps me guessing in such a way that I don't
- 24:52Speaker 1: get irritated by it the way that I might with
- 24:56Speaker 1: just like a more ordinary style of musical with more
- 25:00Speaker 1: ordinary songs. It's like almost like slam poetry, but sung,
- 25:08Speaker 1: and it's I don't know, man, It's it's also very unsettling,
- 25:14Speaker 1: which works very well with like the tone of the arc,
- 25:18Speaker 1: because I think a lot of people associate musical theater
- 25:21Speaker 1: with being like cozy or warm or fun, and so
- 25:27Speaker 1: it's taking something that's cozy and warm and fun but
- 25:30Speaker 1: turning it into like a nightmarish version of itself. So
- 25:36Speaker 1: I like, every time it pops up, I'm like, oh yeah,
- 25:38Speaker 1: and I start to be kind of like, oh boy,
- 25:40Speaker 1: here we go, and then the song continues and I'm like,
- 25:43Speaker 1: oh wow, this is really creepy. Actually this works quite well.
- 25:49Speaker 1: Florence says, Okay, here's my big take on Big Mom.
- 25:54Speaker 1: She's a five year old who throws tantrums when she
- 25:57Speaker 1: doesn't get her own way, but she is also cut
- 26:00Speaker 1: and has a childlike sadism. I truly like her. The
- 26:04Speaker 1: singing of it all. She is a kid. It also
- 26:07Speaker 1: gives an Alice in Wonderland disturbing. Saraphim says, agreed, she's
- 26:12Speaker 1: a giant kid who had always been too strong and
- 26:15Speaker 1: unstable for anyone to force her to grow up. That's
- 26:20Speaker 1: a really interesting concept, the idea that like, if you
- 26:23Speaker 1: are always the biggest and strongest, there's nobody who is
- 26:29Speaker 1: an authority for you to really be like kept in
- 26:34Speaker 1: line by, and so maybe you don't grow up because
- 26:39Speaker 1: nobody can like enforce any rules on you or anything
- 26:45Speaker 1: It's also like a weird because there are plenty of
- 26:51Speaker 1: people out there who are motivated not by physical violence
- 26:57Speaker 1: but by simply wanting to make the people around them happy.
- 27:01Speaker 1: And so even if there is an authority figure who
- 27:04Speaker 1: they could technically overpower, that would never occur to them.
- 27:08Speaker 1: And they themselves are somebody who just wants to please
- 27:11Speaker 1: authority figures and be the good child and the teacher's pet.
- 27:17Speaker 1: And obviously that has never been a thing for Big Mom.
- 27:21Speaker 1: It does seem like it would have had to be
- 27:24Speaker 1: somebody who could physically keep her in line, which it's
- 27:30Speaker 1: just understandable. I hate to say it, but that her
- 27:33Speaker 1: parents abandoned her the way they did, what are they
- 27:36Speaker 1: supposed to do? It's so weird too that they're just
- 27:40Speaker 1: like ordinary sized people and they had this daughter who's
- 27:43Speaker 1: a literal giant. And I'm wondering if it's supposed to
- 27:47Speaker 1: be that the mom cheated on the dad with a
- 27:50Speaker 1: giant and he just doesn't know it. I don't want
- 27:52Speaker 1: to get into the physics of how that would have worked,
- 27:55Speaker 1: but suffice to say they were right to be worried
- 28:00Speaker 1: about her, because she literally winds up eating a bunch
- 28:03Speaker 1: of people and never even notices that she did it,
- 28:05Speaker 1: So it probably would have been a matter of time
- 28:09Speaker 1: until she ate her own parents. I wonder if they're
- 28:12Speaker 1: out there still and if they know what she is now,
- 28:16Speaker 1: if they're like, you know what I'm saying, really curious
- 28:19Speaker 1: about that. And Florian says also how her kids have
- 28:25Speaker 1: to handle her like she is a kid who made
- 28:27Speaker 1: her perfect world. Yeah, that's the thing that I find
- 28:32Speaker 1: like kind of the most saddening in a way, is
- 28:35Speaker 1: that she had all these children and they all have
- 28:39Speaker 1: to be so afraid of her but also manage her.
- 28:46Speaker 1: And it's just like a really unfair position that I
- 28:50Speaker 1: think a lot of people have been in in their lives,
- 28:54Speaker 1: you know, where they had a parent who was just
- 28:56Speaker 1: kind of unreliable and they eventually wound having to parent
- 29:01Speaker 1: their parent, which always makes you a little resentful, even
- 29:05Speaker 1: if you have like a good relationship with them otherwise,
- 29:10Speaker 1: and it's draining, and I like, yeah, it's sad, it's sad.
- 29:20Speaker 1: I've got real mixed feelings, Like I don't want to
- 29:25Speaker 1: say that I like her because the sadism thing is
- 29:29Speaker 1: just repellent. That's the major part that I keep bumping
- 29:33Speaker 1: up against. I can understand the weird craving thing. I
- 29:37Speaker 1: can understand her wanting to have friends to share things
- 29:41Speaker 1: with and wanting to make people the same size as her,
- 29:44Speaker 1: and of course, like her food obsession is just speaks
- 29:49Speaker 1: my exact language. But it's the fact that when she
- 29:52Speaker 1: was little, she was like hurting people and they were
- 29:55Speaker 1: yelling for her to let go and to stop, and
- 29:57Speaker 1: she was not hearing them at all, And that really
- 30:01Speaker 1: is the main thing that just stops me going she's
- 30:04Speaker 1: kind of fun. It's she It's like she lives the
- 30:09Speaker 1: fact that she had this weird version in her head
- 30:14Speaker 1: of what happened to these people that she ate, where
- 30:18Speaker 1: it's a delusion that she fell into while she was
- 30:22Speaker 1: eating them, as if her psyche were protecting itself from
- 30:27Speaker 1: the reality of what she had done. That has me
- 30:31Speaker 1: feeling like she is deluded when it comes to dealing
- 30:34Speaker 1: with people, and that when they're yelling at her, telling
- 30:35Speaker 1: her to put them down, she isn't even seeing that,
- 30:38Speaker 1: she isn't hearing that she's in a different version of
- 30:42Speaker 1: the world. And I think if I think of it
- 30:48Speaker 1: that way, I like her better, just because that means
- 30:53Speaker 1: she isn't enjoying hurting them that if she's in a
- 30:58Speaker 1: different version of the world and her deluded mind, they
- 31:02Speaker 1: aren't in pain or telling her to stop. I would
- 31:07Speaker 1: rather feel like she's like that. So I can't decide
- 31:11Speaker 1: if I'm like giving her too much credit because I
- 31:13Speaker 1: would rather that be true, because we have seen plenty
- 31:19Speaker 1: of other things in which she seemed to have no
- 31:21Speaker 1: problem inflicting pain on people. But again, she has such
- 31:26Speaker 1: delusion surrounding things that she just wants. I don't know
- 31:29Speaker 1: when that would apply and not, you know, sarahm says.
- 31:36Speaker 1: The thing is, she did have the potential to be
- 31:38Speaker 1: that type of good person. She wanted to be one,
- 31:41Speaker 1: but no one was ever able to teach her how
- 31:43Speaker 1: to be one. Well that's the thing though, Like people tried,
- 31:47Speaker 1: but it was, like I said, it was like she
- 31:49Speaker 1: wasn't even hearing when folks were, you know, like her
- 31:55Speaker 1: mother figure I can't remember this lady's name, tries to
- 31:58Speaker 1: like stop her her physically yanking people so that their
- 32:03Speaker 1: arms are starting to come off, and tries to tell
- 32:06Speaker 1: her you were hurting them, don't do that, you know.
- 32:10Speaker 1: But like I said, it's like she's so disconnected from
- 32:12Speaker 1: reality somehow that it doesn't even really sink in Florian says,
- 32:19Speaker 1: she's a great villain. Is mostly what I mean, and
- 32:22Speaker 1: that is absolutely true, Sarahim says, Mother Caramel, that's it,
- 32:27Speaker 1: just tried to keep her under control long enough to
- 32:29Speaker 1: sell her off. Then the next guy to find her
- 32:32Speaker 1: actively encourage her worst impulses for his own vendor benefit.
- 32:40Speaker 1: That's definitely a type of but I don't know what
- 32:42Speaker 1: it was supposed to. But yeah, I get what you're saying,
- 32:44Speaker 1: Sarah m. And yeah, that's fair that Caramel was just
- 32:48Speaker 1: trying to control her and not necessarily teach her, So
- 32:51Speaker 1: that's fair. The yanking his arms thing wasn't malicious. She
- 32:55Speaker 1: thought he had too many joints and was trying to
- 32:58Speaker 1: help fix him. This is where this is the problem though,
- 33:01Speaker 1: that I have, and I said this at during that episode,
- 33:04Speaker 1: she claims she's trying to help and he is screaming
- 33:07Speaker 1: in pain and telling her to stop. So both of
- 33:11Speaker 1: those things can't be true. That she thinks she's helping
- 33:16Speaker 1: and actually hears him yelling that he is hurt and
- 33:19Speaker 1: that he's telling her to stop. So either she's completely
- 33:26Speaker 1: blocking out his screams and him saying stop because she's
- 33:31Speaker 1: in her own little world, or his screams and telling
- 33:36Speaker 1: her to stop are funny to her and she doesn't care.
- 33:41Speaker 1: And I would much prefer the former to the latter.
- 33:45Speaker 1: I don't want her to be somebody who is fine
- 33:48Speaker 1: with people screaming in pain. But based on her behavior
- 33:53Speaker 1: later and the way that she is very quick to
- 33:56Speaker 1: inflict violence, some people could this be a product of
- 34:00Speaker 1: her impulse as being encouraged later, certainly, and maybe she
- 34:05Speaker 1: wasn't like this to begin with, But I don't know.
- 34:09Speaker 1: Man's she's kind of she's kind of a weird one.
- 34:13Speaker 1: I enjoy that about her as well, to be clear,
- 34:17Speaker 1: Like she has one of the least clear cut motivators
- 34:25Speaker 1: of any of the villains. Most of them, I felt
- 34:28Speaker 1: like I kind of get their game, even if I
- 34:31Speaker 1: don't like them that much. I can see what they want,
- 34:34Speaker 1: what they're trying to get, and why they're doing it
- 34:37Speaker 1: this way. Mom is just a really strange one where
- 34:42Speaker 1: she's like wants power, but she's already got a ton
- 34:46Speaker 1: of power, so it's just sort of like part of
- 34:51Speaker 1: the greediness of her overall nature, and the way that
- 34:55Speaker 1: she's trying to get the power initially is through this
- 34:58Speaker 1: like marriage, which doesn't overtly seem violent until you find
- 35:03Speaker 1: out that there's going to be an attack after and
- 35:09Speaker 1: the fact that like what sets her off is the
- 35:13Speaker 1: cake being destroyed and everything and seeing her mother's picture.
- 35:18Speaker 1: It's just a lot of odd elements all brought together
- 35:23Speaker 1: to push her in a way that's like kind of
- 35:27Speaker 1: unique compared to a lot of other villains in this show.
- 35:34Speaker 1: Her fugue state as she is in the craving stage
- 35:40Speaker 1: is I can't think of another character that gets like this,
- 35:44Speaker 1: that is almost completely out of control of themselves. We
- 35:51Speaker 1: have seen villains who give up control and decide to
- 35:56Speaker 1: just lean into their evilness or their sadism or whatever
- 36:00Speaker 1: her but it's a choice with them, whereas with her,
- 36:03Speaker 1: it feels like it's totally involuntary and she has no
- 36:05Speaker 1: control over it. So yeah, I just I don't know's
- 36:13Speaker 1: she's a weird, weird character. There's something about the fact
- 36:20Speaker 1: that there are so many conflicting motivators as well that
- 36:23Speaker 1: makes her feel more like a real person as much
- 36:27Speaker 1: as she is like completely exaggerated in every way obviously,
- 36:31Speaker 1: but you know what I'm saying, Like there's a big
- 36:34Speaker 1: a part of her that has this whole time just
- 36:37Speaker 1: wanted to have friends and be loved. There's another part
- 36:41Speaker 1: of her that is outright dangerous to the people around her.
- 36:45Speaker 1: And then you know the fucking Dela fruit that she got,
- 36:47Speaker 1: where she could literally pull people's life for us completely
- 36:50Speaker 1: out of them is a horrible thing for somebody with
- 36:55Speaker 1: her temperament to have access to. Sarah, I'm saying, yeah,
- 37:00Speaker 1: it seems like she doesn't enjoy inflicting pain and a
- 37:02Speaker 1: sadistically sense for its own sake, but doesn't have the
- 37:06Speaker 1: empathy needed to understand others are in pain or suffering.
- 37:09Speaker 1: This whole recording is just the big mom discussion. I'm
- 37:13Speaker 1: loving it. Florian says she deserves it, and she has
- 37:17Speaker 1: some control in this state. She knows what Parosparro promised her.
- 37:24Speaker 1: That's true. That adds another wrinkle. It's like, yeah, you're right,
- 37:31Speaker 1: because she she's got like just enough self control that
- 37:35Speaker 1: like when he's like the cake isn't over here, it's
- 37:36Speaker 1: over there, she knows to turn. It's not like she's
- 37:40Speaker 1: completely outside of herself. Yeah, well, what a weird one.
- 37:48Speaker 1: So this is when she really starts to go off
- 37:52Speaker 1: eating and she's got her heart eyes, and everybody around
- 37:56Speaker 1: is cheering because Parosparro is putting the news out on
- 38:01Speaker 1: his transponder snail that the craving rampage is over, and
- 38:10Speaker 1: a bunch of people on this island where Pudding still
- 38:14Speaker 1: is are talking about how she's a hero because she
- 38:18Speaker 1: is the one who made the cake that you know,
- 38:21Speaker 1: satisfied mom. And then we go to her in an
- 38:24Speaker 1: alley and she is just sitting there. I you know,
- 38:31Speaker 1: I still was like trying to decide exactly what had
- 38:35Speaker 1: happened between her and Sanji, and like we don't even
- 38:38Speaker 1: get an answer here. We get a repeat of the
- 38:41Speaker 1: moment where she like takes a cigarette out of his
- 38:44Speaker 1: mouth and leans up, and we see her go on
- 38:46Speaker 1: her tiptoes, but we don't see what happened, and she
- 38:54Speaker 1: says he is someone I won't forget no matter what.
- 39:01Speaker 1: And I was sort of wondering if she like took
- 39:05Speaker 1: the memory of herself away from him or something like
- 39:11Speaker 1: is that because the just it's just the fact that
- 39:14Speaker 1: she mentions memory like she does, you know. So we
- 39:22Speaker 1: then go also to Jimbay, who is talking with Aladdin
- 39:28Speaker 1: in the water, and he's just like, why didn't you guys,
- 39:30Speaker 1: get the hell out of here when you had the chance.
- 39:33Speaker 1: And they're like, well, we needed to help you, guys,
- 39:38Speaker 1: and you know, we kind of owe the straw hats
- 39:40Speaker 1: and we wanted to make sure you got out of
- 39:42Speaker 1: here safely. So get back up on that ship and
- 39:47Speaker 1: we'll make a path for you. And we've got the
- 39:53Speaker 1: I love. I think it's a smoothie who says something like,
- 39:58Speaker 1: what is this giant hairy baby? And the delivery of
- 40:02Speaker 1: that line is really really funny to me. I don't
- 40:04Speaker 1: know why, but like the way she said it is perfect.
- 40:09Speaker 1: And all of these little ships that are surrounding the
- 40:13Speaker 1: Sunny are getting scuppered. That's the word, right where somebody
- 40:18Speaker 1: goes underneath and just pops a hole into it. They're
- 40:22Speaker 1: shooting at the baby, who is just totally unharmed by
- 40:29Speaker 1: this at all. And then they begin to go on
- 40:34Speaker 1: board some of the ships and actually fight people on
- 40:37Speaker 1: the decks. So here is when we've got this like
- 40:42Speaker 1: weird genie thing that keeps turning up, you know, a
- 40:48Speaker 1: big moment of him being like, I'll show you, and
- 40:52Speaker 1: Aladdin uses an ability. I don't remember what this is called,
- 40:57Speaker 1: but it's like a stream of light that sends the
- 41:01Speaker 1: genie flying and completely pushes him off course. And he
- 41:06Speaker 1: had been going to sink them, but instead it's like
- 41:09Speaker 1: the blade he was going to use just goes back
- 41:12Speaker 1: to the owner, the dude who has the genie come
- 41:16Speaker 1: out of his belly. Really weird thing. We don't see
- 41:20Speaker 1: the genie come back, We just see the blade come back.
- 41:22Speaker 1: I trust that he can always get the genie back,
- 41:24Speaker 1: that that connection doesn't get severed, but evidently cannot control
- 41:30Speaker 1: it in the way that I had thought he might.
- 41:36Speaker 1: So this is when we see the pathway open up
- 41:40Speaker 1: between the ships and they put on a bunch of
- 41:45Speaker 1: speed and just begin to fly past everybody, and the fishmen,
- 41:50Speaker 1: who were like handling everybody says, we are going to
- 41:55Speaker 1: make sure these guys don't lay a finger on you,
- 41:57Speaker 1: so don't worry. And even as can't, balls are coming
- 42:00Speaker 1: flying at them. We've got fishmen jumping out of the
- 42:03Speaker 1: water kicking the cannonballs away from the ship, which is
- 42:08Speaker 1: banana pants. And this is when JIMBEI realizes, Oh, and
- 42:14Speaker 1: they they disabled the uh security snails what are they called.
- 42:20Speaker 1: He realizes this because we had seen that earlier, but
- 42:22Speaker 1: he didn't know about it, but he suddenly like realizes
- 42:25Speaker 1: and understands that had they not intervened, this shit would
- 42:30Speaker 1: have been over a long time ago. You know, they
- 42:32Speaker 1: would have all been dead already by now. So then
- 42:38Speaker 1: we get the weird, the weird what's the word I want?
- 42:47Speaker 1: It's like a what is it called? When everybody begins
- 42:52Speaker 1: to come together in the UH power Rangers and makes
- 42:56Speaker 1: like a big giant power Ranger. That's kind of what's
- 43:01Speaker 1: going on with German Double six. It's a cop they're
- 43:11Speaker 1: coming together to make a large fighter. Meanwhile, Branch is
- 43:19Speaker 1: over here with a bunch of bullets that are very
- 43:23Speaker 1: specific to taking them down, and she's like completely certain
- 43:30Speaker 1: that these are going to do the job and is
- 43:33Speaker 1: giving them to all of the men who have this
- 43:36Speaker 1: like giant gun they're about to shoot now. I'll be honest, y'all,
- 43:42Speaker 1: I don't really get why she has them. Why does
- 43:46Speaker 1: she have these bullets? Where did she get them? This
- 43:50Speaker 1: isn't part of her power. It's just a weird thing
- 43:54Speaker 1: for her to suddenly turn up with like the exact
- 43:57Speaker 1: weapon that will pierce through their un breakable armor. And
- 44:04Speaker 1: it just I think that part of it is too
- 44:08Speaker 1: that Brulai has not been able to like make great
- 44:15Speaker 1: use of her power for almost this whole arc. She
- 44:18Speaker 1: uses her power initially to like trap people and it
- 44:22Speaker 1: lasts for ten minutes before she herself gets like overpowered
- 44:25Speaker 1: and then carried around like a tope bag because that
- 44:29Speaker 1: person needs her to make the power that's now very
- 44:31Speaker 1: convenient for them work the way that it needs to work.
- 44:36Speaker 1: So this being like what she is able to step
- 44:41Speaker 1: forward and offer, that's like really helpful. I was hoping
- 44:45Speaker 1: that she would get to do something else with her
- 44:48Speaker 1: mirror power, but it's sort of like we have had
- 44:51Speaker 1: to completely abandon that, and I get like most of
- 44:54Speaker 1: the mirrors have been destroyed. You know, I understand that,
- 44:57Speaker 1: but I still thought maybe we'd pull something out somehow.
- 45:03Speaker 1: Seraphim says, they are the bullets putting tested on raise
- 45:08Speaker 1: you that they had prepped for the assassination. Bulay likely
- 45:12Speaker 1: just used her part to run to an armory to
- 45:15Speaker 1: get more. Florian says, this is Branch saying, time to
- 45:21Speaker 1: wrap this arc up. Yeah, yeah, like her just running
- 45:27Speaker 1: to an armory, I mean sure, like that will be
- 45:32Speaker 1: literally how she gets them, But you get what I
- 45:35Speaker 1: mean right about like symbolically as a character. Her being
- 45:41Speaker 1: the one to pull these out is weird. It just
- 45:44Speaker 1: feels weird. I was like, there are a lot of
- 45:47Speaker 1: other characters that have been involved with this whole conflict
- 45:52Speaker 1: that would be the ones I would expect to have
- 45:55Speaker 1: this knowledge and supply. It just kind of it just
- 45:59Speaker 1: caught me off guard. It was sort of weird. It's like,
- 46:01Speaker 1: we didn't have anything else that we could give her
- 46:03Speaker 1: to redeem the fact that she's been utterly useless and humiliated,
- 46:08Speaker 1: so we had to do something, you know. So this
- 46:13Speaker 1: is when fucking Oven decides that he is going to
- 46:18Speaker 1: avenge Kateakori because his assumption, along with everyone else apparently
- 46:25Speaker 1: who was like on this island, is there is no
- 46:28Speaker 1: possible way Lufy won this fight fair and square. He
- 46:31Speaker 1: had to have cheated. There is simply no other option,
- 46:35Speaker 1: which I dearly want Katekori to just set them straight,
- 46:39Speaker 1: but it doesn't matter. He wants to go after them.
- 46:42Speaker 1: It doesn't It's like this is just a pretense, you know,
- 46:45Speaker 1: it's fine, and it sort of gets a lot of
- 46:50Speaker 1: other people psyched up too, surprisingly, Like I just didn't
- 46:54Speaker 1: think so many folks were going to care this much
- 46:58Speaker 1: but uh yeah, So we have German double six and
- 47:03Speaker 1: they're doing their thing separately. They're being badasses, and then
- 47:09Speaker 1: we see the unleash of the bullets and the way
- 47:13Speaker 1: that this starts to really affect them. And I'm trying
- 47:20Speaker 1: to jump to this part because oh my god, this
- 47:23Speaker 1: it's so funny. Everybody is engaged in this battle, and
- 47:26Speaker 1: then you'll cut to Big Mom who's just like prancing
- 47:30Speaker 1: around in her fantasy world with her cake and her
- 47:33Speaker 1: rose petals flutterating across the screen in a moment of
- 47:38Speaker 1: pure happiness. And the way that she absolutely has no
- 47:44Speaker 1: time to give a shit about what's going on with
- 47:47Speaker 1: everybody else now a lot of people are about to
- 47:49Speaker 1: die because she's too distracted by cake is extremely perfect
- 47:56Speaker 1: and I love it. So I'm going to jump to
- 48:01Speaker 1: the next I'm realizing, like, how I am running out
- 48:04Speaker 1: of time, so sorry, guys, I have to jump into
- 48:06Speaker 1: the next one. Although I have talked about a lot
- 48:08Speaker 1: of it already. So I Mom winds up collapsed after
- 48:23Speaker 1: eating all this cake, talking about what a great meal,
- 48:29Speaker 1: and it's just in a food coma. I guess that
- 48:33Speaker 1: is what you would call it. And I do love
- 48:39Speaker 1: Parospero being next to her and being like, mom, are
- 48:43Speaker 1: you all right? Because it really does not look like
- 48:45Speaker 1: she's okay. And there's this moment where it looks as
- 48:53Speaker 1: if the sunny has been what's the word I want?
- 48:59Speaker 1: It looks like it's been nuked, basically like it's just
- 49:02Speaker 1: a huge attack. Whole thing's on fire. The straw hat
- 49:06Speaker 1: flag is like laying in the water, charred, and everyone
- 49:13Speaker 1: is assuming we finally got them. We did it. Now.
- 49:18Speaker 1: Of course I know that they're fine, but I am
- 49:21Speaker 1: not sure how this could have been done. We have
- 49:27Speaker 1: the slow like every single person out there being informed
- 49:31Speaker 1: that the straw hats finally got taken care of, and cheering,
- 49:36Speaker 1: and you know there is is it Almandine? Is that
- 49:44Speaker 1: the name of the one with the big hat. She
- 49:47Speaker 1: seems to be the main one that is not convinced
- 49:51Speaker 1: of this. I want to throw some shade on Montor
- 49:56Speaker 1: here as well, because you have been You have been mistaken,
- 50:03Speaker 1: very very mistaken, thinking that an enemy was fully taken
- 50:06Speaker 1: care of once already this battle. You are way too quick, sir,
- 50:13Speaker 1: to state with total confidence that the straw hats have
- 50:16Speaker 1: been taken care of for me once shame on you.
- 50:21Speaker 1: It's twice. Now you need to slow your role a
- 50:24Speaker 1: little bit with your little announcements guys, like, oh my god,
- 50:31Speaker 1: I'm so sorry. Florian says a line of Mom's song
- 50:36Speaker 1: that I like. It tastes so good. It brings back
- 50:39Speaker 1: dead puppies or something that I forgot about that line.
- 50:44Speaker 1: What is that line? Why it is so creepy? Oh
- 50:54Speaker 1: my god, Florian says at this point, I would only
- 50:58Speaker 1: believe it if their heads are in front of me,
- 51:00Speaker 1: and like wholeheartedly, yes, absolutely, And then we get to
- 51:06Speaker 1: see exactly what happened, and it's that are uh weird
- 51:15Speaker 1: baby Waasumi yanked the ship underwater and they're all like
- 51:22Speaker 1: on the deck, but they're under his hand. So there's
- 51:28Speaker 1: like an air bubble that is keeping them from at
- 51:33Speaker 1: first just flying off the ship into the water. But
- 51:37Speaker 1: secondly there's well actually i'm looking now, no, there is
- 51:42Speaker 1: water under there. Yeah, yeah, I thought that they were
- 51:45Speaker 1: in a full air bubble. But he puts them in
- 51:48Speaker 1: his mouth for that assid like to protect them and says,
- 51:52Speaker 1: hang in there, guys. So that is the moment where
- 51:55Speaker 1: the water goes away because he holds them in his mouth.
- 51:57Speaker 1: But I guess swallows the water and there's still oxygen
- 52:02Speaker 1: left in his mouth, which is so smart because like,
- 52:07Speaker 1: not only does he pull the ship down, but he
- 52:10Speaker 1: has another one that's wrecked that he shoves up in
- 52:14Speaker 1: its place. And they're far enough away that nobody can
- 52:16Speaker 1: really see the details of the ship, so it just
- 52:20Speaker 1: serves as a real quick like switch them. And I
- 52:25Speaker 1: just I loved this that this was a very weird reveal.
- 52:29Speaker 1: And I have to assume that Wadatsumi can swim a
- 52:31Speaker 1: lot further and faster than the ship would probably be
- 52:36Speaker 1: able to travel on its own. Then we have this
- 52:43Speaker 1: is this is it when Smoothie sees the shadow and
- 52:46Speaker 1: says they're underwater. It was the giant hairy baby, That's
- 52:50Speaker 1: what it was. Oh God, Smoothie, I'm so mad that
- 52:55Speaker 1: you don't see or that you do see. I wish
- 52:59Speaker 1: that you were as observant or as confident. And this
- 53:05Speaker 1: is when Oven is just like, all right, trust I
- 53:09Speaker 1: am about to get these assholes. And as he is
- 53:13Speaker 1: like gearing up, a bunch of the ships are like
- 53:16Speaker 1: turning to sort of aim at them, and I was like,
- 53:23Speaker 1: you guys have been scuppered. Though I thought all of
- 53:25Speaker 1: you were like done so because it's a particular looking
- 53:28Speaker 1: type of ship, you know what I'm saying. So Oven,
- 53:33Speaker 1: he shoves his hands underwater. I thought this was like
- 53:39Speaker 1: really unfair. I didn't think that he was going to
- 53:41Speaker 1: be able to make this kind of attack like under
- 53:46Speaker 1: that just seems it just seems unfair, that's all I'm
- 53:49Speaker 1: gonna says. It's and he zaps this kid who has
- 53:57Speaker 1: to swim to the surface spit out the sunny, and
- 54:02Speaker 1: now they are exposed again, and everybody knows, haha, they're
- 54:07Speaker 1: still alive. And now we begin to fire upon them,
- 54:10Speaker 1: and so to me stands and uses himself as a
- 54:15Speaker 1: human shield and says, just go on without me. I
- 54:20Speaker 1: know I did a bad thing on Fishman Island, but
- 54:23Speaker 1: I'm real sorry. And I was just like very touched
- 54:30Speaker 1: by this because there's no need for us to worry
- 54:34Speaker 1: about this now. But he's still just I kind of
- 54:38Speaker 1: owe you guys, because I was fucked up before, you know.
- 54:43Speaker 1: And then we get the water shot and it's a
- 54:48Speaker 1: Laddin versus Oven, and fucking Oven, your treachery knows no bounds.
- 54:58Speaker 1: Never thought you'd sink so low, None of you disloyal
- 55:02Speaker 1: worms deserve to live after this. And I really hate
- 55:09Speaker 1: this man. I know I've said it already, but Oven
- 55:12Speaker 1: fucking sucks. And I just this guy. I every time
- 55:20Speaker 1: he's on screen, something bad's about to happen in a
- 55:22Speaker 1: way that like isn't fun. It just so Aladdin comes
- 55:27Speaker 1: at him yelling four thousand brickfists and lands a punch
- 55:34Speaker 1: on his arm that doesn't seem to do anything. It
- 55:38Speaker 1: just like there's a sort of ripple effect coming off
- 55:43Speaker 1: the arm, like it's a shockwave or something, but there
- 55:47Speaker 1: is no apparent effect. And then it cuts to his
- 55:50Speaker 1: wife being like, show him what you got, honey, and
- 55:53Speaker 1: I was like, I don't know, man, it doesn't really
- 55:55Speaker 1: seem like he's showing him much of anything because I
- 55:57Speaker 1: feel like of An was unmarked by this at all,
- 56:03Speaker 1: you know, And let's see, oh right, And then when
- 56:08Speaker 1: we cut back to the Sunny, it's got water in it,
- 56:13Speaker 1: and this means that it is also the sails like
- 56:17Speaker 1: fucked up in one spot because it was on fire.
- 56:19Speaker 1: So the ship weighs more because it's got a bunch
- 56:23Speaker 1: of water in it, and the sail is compromised, so
- 56:27Speaker 1: it's not going to go fast enough. So the combo
- 56:32Speaker 1: means that we are traveling quite slowly and we are
- 56:35Speaker 1: being very clumpy, clunky, clumpy. This is when Jimba says,
- 56:43Speaker 1: I'm sorry, Loofy, but I cannot bring myself to leave them.
- 56:49Speaker 1: And I was so delighted because I just don't care
- 56:53Speaker 1: about him and he's been great in this arc and
- 56:56Speaker 1: very helpful. That's fine, but I just you know, it's fine,
- 57:05Speaker 1: which of course results in Loofy being like, well, then
- 57:11Speaker 1: we're staying and helping too. Obviously, we're friends. We're gonna
- 57:16Speaker 1: do that, and jim Bay is like, no, man, please
- 57:21Speaker 1: let me do this. I will bring up the rear.
- 57:25Speaker 1: I'm making you a vow, but you gotta let me
- 57:29Speaker 1: handle it, and I'm going to go on by myself
- 57:32Speaker 1: while you guys make an escape. And you know, we
- 57:37Speaker 1: have this like drawn out moment between him and Lufy,
- 57:40Speaker 1: and finally Lufy says, just remember I'm your captain now,
- 57:46Speaker 1: so don't let me down. And uh, essentially, you better
- 57:53Speaker 1: fucking show up or I'll find you and I'll kick
- 57:55Speaker 1: your ass, and of course jim Bay means it, we
- 57:58Speaker 1: know this, no question. Meanwhile, Big Mom is determined to
- 58:07Speaker 1: go after the sonny and she's riding on the back
- 58:11Speaker 1: of a frog. It's like a I think she calls
- 58:14Speaker 1: it a candy frog. It is almost acting like a
- 58:19Speaker 1: water ski for her. Not totally sure how this works.
- 58:23Speaker 1: Also not really sure why she wasn't using this to
- 58:26Speaker 1: begin with, but you know whatever, maybe she just wasn't
- 58:31Speaker 1: really with it enough to realize that this was an option.
- 58:36Speaker 1: And the guys, I'm sorry, I'm just looking at the
- 58:41Speaker 1: time and realizing, like, I haven't even touched on Jim
- 58:45Speaker 1: Bay's cover story yet. I mean I touched on it earlier,
- 58:50Speaker 1: I guess. But Aladdin gets like knocked out of the sky.
- 58:56Speaker 1: There's a point where he just gets thrown basically, and
- 59:01Speaker 1: Jim Bay scoops him up, and he's like, hey, man,
- 59:04Speaker 1: I thought you were gonna go, but here you still are,
- 59:07Speaker 1: because I guess you just don't think that we can
- 59:09Speaker 1: take care of ourselves, which Jimbae is like, man, don't
- 59:12Speaker 1: think of it that way. But I just feel like
- 59:14Speaker 1: I owe you and I want to be here for
- 59:18Speaker 1: you during this whole thing, and I think that's completely fair.
- 59:25Speaker 1: So the fishmen also are able to shift the tide
- 59:32Speaker 1: so that the ship is able to move away a
- 59:35Speaker 1: lot faster than they would normally be able to. Let's see.
- 59:43Speaker 1: Oh right, I forgot that. We see the fucking guys.
- 59:49Speaker 1: Remind me, what is the name of the fucking is
- 59:54Speaker 1: it Morgan? What's the name of the bird that's the
- 59:59Speaker 1: the journalist, the owner of that newspaper. But he's looking
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: down and taking note of absolutely everything that is happening
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: and is delighted, which it's just a real way your
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: you know, really, So let's see. He says something about
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: the worst generation and that one of them is going
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: to be the next pirate king, and he lists off
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: a bunch of the dudes that we have met already
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: and then ends, of course with loofy. So okay, just
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: really quick, I'm gonna talk about Jimbei's cover story because
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: it is so weird and funny. I'm trying to find
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: the spot that's like a Lost Chivalrous Journey volume two,
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: a Lost Sea King, and it's just like this catfish
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: that's crying. And when I say catfish, it's a much
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: cuter catfish than real catfish. Who gets brought to a
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: sea dog officer in parentheses sea animal sheriff. I really
- 1:01:18Speaker 1: am mad that we're getting these sorts of like, oh,
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: by the way, sea animals have their own whole society
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: as a like a little cover story. I want to
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: know about this? Are you kidding me? I want to
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: know all about this? What do you mean? So suffice
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: to say, eventually there's this weird bit of news that
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: you may gets about a town that got attacked by
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: a bunch of sea creatures, giant ones, And when he
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: goes to investigate, there's like a whole building that got
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: like dropped in the middle of town, and all of
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: the townsfolk or like, we don't know what happened, but
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: we leave offerings over here by the sea, and they vanished,
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: and then suddenly this building was here, and we find
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: out that it was I don't know if it was
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: specifically while it assuming it was, though, right, because he
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: says at the end, like I want to go with you.
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: So he evidently takes all the offerings and then it's like, well,
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: I owe you guys for all this stuff you gave me,
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: so I'll give you this house and just yanks the
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: house off of the dude who's living in it, who's
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: like a sea lion something, and he drops it into town,
- 1:02:41Speaker 1: which is very disruptive as one can imagine. And also
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: the sea animals who own the house when they wake
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: up and the house is missing and they see that
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: it's just like on this island now, they assumed the
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: humans took it some how, which I'm not really sure
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: how they think the humans would have pulled it off,
- 1:03:03Speaker 1: but like who knows, doesn't matter, And so JIMBEI has
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: to come in and figure out what happened and then
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: set everything to rights and lecture what assuming about like
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: taking stuff and just doing crazy shit without asking, and
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: has to smooth things over between the sea animals and
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: the humans, and YadA YadA, and uh yeah, it's a fun,
- 1:03:31Speaker 1: weird little story and is the most I've liked Jimbay actually,
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: so I would be very interested in more of that
- 1:03:40Speaker 1: from him. I would just be more interested in declicive
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: life stuff from one piece, to be honest. So okay,
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: I have to wrap this up, but thank you guys
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: again so much for hanging out. Appreciate you all very
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: very much and looking forward to the next one We're
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: getting towards the end of this. Until next time to
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: the Loue motherfuckers. That was an Unspoiled Network podcast.
