- 0:00Speaker 1: Good afternoon, everybody. Welcome to the program here on a

- 0:06My name is Craig Way. Glad to have you with us,
- 0:08so please to have you alongside. As I always say,
- 0:13if for you, Wednesday means the true hump day and
- 0:17you get over the hump and then you're two day
- 0:19shy of the weekend, good for you, good on end.
- 0:21Speaker 2: Hopefully that works out well on the downhill run.
- 0:25Speaker 1: If, however, Wednesday is to you like Monday is the
- 0:33rest of us, or even Friday, hopefully things go well
- 0:35for you there and we're glad to be with you
- 0:38on Wednesday afternoon. We of course includes the producer of
- 0:40the program, Cameron Deep Parker. The D on the birth
- 0:45certificate stands for Dallas, as in his favorite NFL team
- 0:50that he says he will continue to unwatch because he
- 0:55feels they're unwatchable, even though we got to see him
- 0:59win the game the other night, tuned in and did
- 1:02happen to see them get the game winning touchdown pass
- 1:06right at the end there to Jaylen Tobert from.
- 1:09Speaker 2: Dak Prescott and.
- 1:12Speaker 1: Says that and you said what it only reinforced your
- 1:15desire not to watch them on TV.
- 1:17Speaker 2: The fact that they won on the last play of
- 1:19the game. There's that side of the coin.
- 1:21Speaker 3: There's also the side where they had what two three
- 1:24turnovers in the red zone playing a Steelers team that
- 1:27had Kyle Allen at quarterback. He got CD and Dak
- 1:31arguing on the sideline, injuries everywhere.
- 1:35Speaker 2: Yeah, I feel pretty good about not watching.
- 1:38Speaker 1: Okay, all right, all right, we'll get to some NFL
- 1:43football coming up. But this being Texas ou Week, we
- 1:50have a couple of unique ways that we are approaching
- 1:53and we started it obviously on Monday with long Worts
- 1:56Monday and we heard from long Warts head coach Steve
- 1:58Sarcasian Texas. Tuesday heard from Texas players. Also visited with
- 2:04Kle Gundhy, the one time Oklahoma Sooner's corner quarterback who
- 2:09now hosts a show up there in Oklahoma City.
- 2:12Speaker 2: Today.
- 2:12Speaker 1: Coming up in a few minutes, we'll visit with my
- 2:15counterpart on the Sooner Sports Network from lear Field. My
- 2:19good friend Toby Rowland will join us and we'll get
- 2:22his thoughts on this current Oklahoma Sooner team and what
- 2:26they're expecting and what they're looking for in this matchup
- 2:30between Texas, and so we'll get that. Then we'll have inconceivable.
- 2:39Part of the inconceivable today is that my laptop appears
- 2:42to have died out on me. I don't know, we'll see.
- 2:44I'm still trying to recover things on that. But we
- 2:47do have inconceivable a little bit later on this hour,
- 2:50at the top of the hour, right at the top
- 2:53of the hour, at three o'clock, a completely different look
- 3:00at this Texas OU game from the eyes of a
- 3:03guy who played quarterback at Texas. He played quarterback here
- 3:09the last time that Texas was ranked number one in
- 3:15the nation going into the Red River rivalry.
- 3:18Speaker 2: That was forty years ago. It was nineteen eighty four.
- 3:20Speaker 1: The quarterback of that Texas Logorn team was none other
- 3:24than Todd Dodge.
- 3:26Speaker 2: Yeah, the same guy, the same.
- 3:28Speaker 1: Todd Dodge who went on to become one of the
- 3:30most iconic high school football coaches in the history of
- 3:34Texas high school football, winning seven state championships for at
- 3:38South Lake Carrol then three in a row at Westlake
- 3:40before he stepped away from the game retired health was
- 3:43some of it, and then got back into it this
- 3:46year as the coach at Lovejoy High that's in Lucas,
- 3:50out just east to Plano, up in the Dallas Fort
- 3:52Worth area, and he's trying to turn that program into
- 3:56a state championship caliber team. They started owing too, but
- 3:59they won three in a row, including getting a win
- 4:01over a state ranked Melissa team last Friday. I'll ask
- 4:05him about that, but I wanted to get the Todd's
- 4:07thoughts on that game forty years ago in nineteen eighty four,
- 4:12when Texas went into at number one, Oklahoma was number two,
- 4:16and in a pouring constant rain, the game ended in
- 4:20a fifteen to fifteen tie. It's one of the five
- 4:24ties all time between Texas and ou. The last one
- 4:28was in the last year that they allowed tie games,
- 4:31nineteen ninety five. That's when Texas went out to a
- 4:34twenty one to nothing lead and ended up settling for
- 4:36a twenty four to twenty four tie with the Sooners
- 4:40that year, nineteen ninety five. The next year was the
- 4:42first year that overtime was implemented, and in that first
- 4:48year they played overtime, Oklahoma won that game thirty to
- 4:51twenty seven. It was so new. Overtime was so new
- 4:54that when the Loghorns won the toss. We all know
- 4:58now that if you are going in overtime and you
- 5:00win the toss, what do you do cam if you
- 5:02win the toss going in overtime, what's your option?
- 5:05Speaker 2: What do you do for NFL? For college? For college?
- 5:09Speaker 1: What do you do if you're a college team and
- 5:12you're getting ready to go in overtime and you win
- 5:14the coin toss? Usually deferred right? You play defense? Yeah,
- 5:18because that way you know exactly what.
- 5:21Speaker 2: You have to do.
- 5:23Speaker 1: So if you know, if you hold them to no points,
- 5:27all you need is a field goal to win. If
- 5:29you hold them to a field goal, you know you
- 5:30win with a touchdown. And as they score a touchdown,
- 5:32it you know you absolutely have to have a touchdown,
- 5:34so you would go for it on fourth down. In
- 5:37a situation they're starting at the twenty five yard line,
- 5:39you always elect to play defense, unless you're Deon Sanders.
- 5:43Twice last year he elected to go on offense. Actually
- 5:47three times twice at worked and one time it didn't.
- 5:50But you elect to play defense. Well, it was so
- 5:54new in nineteen ninety six. Folks have not yet figured
- 5:57out the strategy. So one of the toss they like
- 6:01to take the ball they ended up settling for a
- 6:03Phil Dawson field goal. Oklahoma comes back James Allen, who
- 6:09had been the running back two years prior, who got
- 6:12stopped at the goal line by Stony Clark. And that's
- 6:15thirty years ago now, and to preserve Texas seventeen to
- 6:18ten win, James Allen scored the winning touchdown. Oklahoma won
- 6:20in overtime thirty to twenty seven. All Right, so we're talking,
- 6:24you know, ninety four, thirty years ago, ninety six, twenty
- 6:27eight years ago.
- 6:27Speaker 2: But this was forty years ago, nineteen eighty four when.
- 6:31Speaker 1: Texas went into the game number one in the nation,
- 6:35and Todd Dodge was the quarterback of that team. So
- 6:38we'll get his thoughts on that. We'll keep you updated
- 6:41on the baseball playoffs because those are still going on.
- 6:46Game three of the Detroit Cleveland series is just now
- 6:53getting underway. Game three of the Yankees and Royals is
- 6:57later today. Also later is the Game four between the
- 7:02Mets and the Phillies. Mets with a chance to wrap
- 7:04it up in Philadelphia, and game or excuse me, in
- 7:07New York and Game four tonight Dodgers and Padres, with
- 7:11the Padres standing one game away from advancing to the
- 7:15nationalgu Championship Series after their six y five win over
- 7:17LA last night, So with that in mind, we'll keep
- 7:20you updated on those things as well.
- 7:22Speaker 2: But up next we'll
- 7:23Speaker 1: Visit with Toby Rowland, play by play voice of the
- 7:26Oklahoma sooners when we continue on sports Radio AM thirteen
- 7:29under the zone of the iHeartRadio app.
