- 1:02Speaker 1: it off again. It is here and we want to
- 1:05Speaker 1: welcome in our friend John Weaver, athletic director at m
- 1:10Speaker 1: r A. John Weaver, Good morning, How you doing morning, bo?
- 1:16Speaker 2: I really liked that coach Ojeron take on there, Joe
- 1:20Speaker 2: Man like back in the land of the Tigers. Yeah, scorer,
- 1:28Speaker 2: there it is, go Tiger.
- 1:30Speaker 1: Can you believe football season is here?
- 1:33Speaker 2: Yes? And no it gets here quick fast, in a hurry.
- 1:36Speaker 2: But I mean as well as you know this football
- 1:39Speaker 2: is King cotton in the South, and I don't think
- 1:42Speaker 2: football ever gets out of anybody's blood. No, you go
- 1:45Speaker 2: baseball and then you're like basketball, but you're always I
- 1:48Speaker 2: always see graphics and things like that of count bowns
- 1:52Speaker 2: to football season. Sure, So it's like even if it's
- 1:55Speaker 2: like you play your last game, like it's two hundred
- 1:57Speaker 2: and ninety seven days, still football season. It's always in
- 2:01Speaker 2: your face.
- 2:03Speaker 1: Okay, So y'all start off with uh with Ravenwood High
- 2:06Speaker 1: School in Brentwood outside of Nashville, Is that right?
- 2:10Speaker 2: Yeah, well, yes, sir, we'll travel up there on the
- 2:12Speaker 2: twenty first. Actually the team will go up on the twentieth.
- 2:15Speaker 1: Okay.
- 2:15Speaker 2: Ravenwood played Oakland High School, who we played on ESPN
- 2:19Speaker 2: a couple of years back. Right, Oakland was the defending
- 2:24Speaker 2: is the defending state champs. Raveno was the runner up.
- 2:27Speaker 2: The cool story with Ravenwood. You know last year Hayden Davis, coach.
- 2:32Speaker 2: Davis's son was the O C. Well he's still the
- 2:34Speaker 2: OC now because Davis is now gone to the defensive
- 2:38Speaker 2: side of the ball, So it'll be a I guess
- 2:40Speaker 2: the cat and mouse, oh versus d Yeah.
- 2:45Speaker 1: That's cool. Weaver, Okay, so yep, all right, So Jacob
- 2:50Speaker 1: Land is now the offensive coordinator for Mr. Herbert Davis
- 2:53Speaker 1: is the head coach and now goes to defensive side
- 2:55Speaker 1: of the football, and he'll go against his son, who's
- 3:00Speaker 1: the OC at Ravenwood. Is that right?
- 3:03Speaker 2: That's correct? That's a that's a cool storyline, that is
- 3:06Speaker 2: you know Hayden. Hayden was a standout quarterback here for us. Sure,
- 3:09Speaker 2: And uh I asked Herbert again, I was like, man,
- 3:12Speaker 2: how how much are you all going to talk leading
- 3:15Speaker 2: up to that week? He's like, probably not very much.
- 3:20Speaker 2: And uh, I just think, you know, getting to play
- 3:23Speaker 2: these out of town games, it it boosts the kids
- 3:28Speaker 2: confident and we're gonna play the Metro slate, which is
- 3:31Speaker 2: a gauntlet anyway, but going to play Ravenwood, you you
- 3:35Speaker 2: play call your real high school out of Tennessee, you
- 3:39Speaker 2: play Catholic High School out of Baton Rouge. I mean
- 3:43Speaker 2: those are our out of town games. And then you
- 3:45Speaker 2: got Jeff Davis County. I mean the old Bassfield come
- 3:48Speaker 2: on now. So I love the motto and you know
- 3:52Speaker 2: we we I guess stole it like good coaches do.
- 3:55Speaker 2: We steal stuff from Southern mist like anyone anywhere, anytime
- 3:59Speaker 2: really doesn't sure. So we lost to Ravenwood on a
- 4:02Speaker 2: close one last year I remember, and beat Collierville, which
- 4:06Speaker 2: is the largest high school in Tennessee. And then the
- 4:09Speaker 2: cool one was we beat Catholic High School down at
- 4:11Speaker 2: Catholic the concrete jungle is what they call that stadium,
- 4:14Speaker 2: the Memorial Stadium, and UH beat them for the first time.
- 4:18Speaker 2: Uh they hadn't lost a game there in three years,
- 4:21Speaker 2: and uh we upset them. I have a two point conversion.
- 4:24Speaker 2: So it's just I think you played good teams or
- 4:27Speaker 2: out of state to get you better for the conference
- 4:29Speaker 2: slate and then the championship front.
- 4:31Speaker 1: Okay, Madison RIDGELD Academy football on ESPN one oh five
- 4:36Speaker 1: downs the Zone this year and they start off with
- 4:39Speaker 1: Ravenwood and then they go to Jeff Davis. I mean
- 4:41Speaker 1: then I think they go to Jeff Davis.
- 4:42Speaker 2: Is that right? Yeah, we go to Jeff Davis. First
- 4:45Speaker 2: first two games are on the road. So as a
- 4:47Speaker 2: new athletic director, uh, having the first game in September
- 4:52Speaker 2: really helps the psyche you a little bit where we
- 4:53Speaker 2: don't have to gear up for first week of school
- 4:55Speaker 2: and then hey, you got a home football seat Frain.
- 4:57Speaker 2: It's what we've done the last three years, right, So
- 4:59Speaker 2: getting two games on the road and then coming back
- 5:01Speaker 2: home from Hartfield Academy on September fourth.
- 5:06Speaker 1: Okay, all right, well, so you mentioned the staff. Herbert
- 5:14Speaker 1: goes to the defensive side of the football. He's been
- 5:17Speaker 1: the play caller OC since he got there, right, I
- 5:20Speaker 1: don't even know how many years that is, twelve or
- 5:21Speaker 1: thirteen or something like.
- 5:22Speaker 2: That, and you're thirteen. Okay, he's starting year thirteen, and man,
- 5:29Speaker 2: it's been seeing him on the I went to watch
- 5:31Speaker 2: our scrimmage against Park Lane on Friday, and seeing him
- 5:35Speaker 2: on the defensive side of the ball was a little different,
- 5:39Speaker 2: but I think it fits his personality. He is a
- 5:43Speaker 2: go getter, He is a motivator. He is going to
- 5:47Speaker 2: get every bill. Parcells used to say, squeeze the rag, right,
- 5:52Speaker 2: He's gonna squeeze the rag out of every ounce of
- 5:56Speaker 2: every player that is on that team. And you know,
- 6:00Speaker 2: that's kind of where we are and seeing him do that,
- 6:03Speaker 2: everybody always asks like, hey, MRI gonna be good this year?
- 6:07Speaker 2: I said, as long as Herbert Davers, our head football coach,
- 6:08Speaker 2: are gonna be good?
- 6:10Speaker 1: Well, yeah, I don't know what its overall record is,
- 6:12Speaker 1: but it's got to be insane.
- 6:14Speaker 2: So yeah, it's I have that somewhere. I wish I
- 6:18Speaker 2: could pull that up for you, but well, you.
- 6:19Speaker 1: Can text me later, all right. John Weaver, athletic director
- 6:24Speaker 1: at Madison Ridgeland Academy, Herbert Davis, head football coach. They're
- 6:28Speaker 1: going to be on the road the first two games,
- 6:30Speaker 1: but you can listen to it on ESPN one oh
- 6:32Speaker 1: five nine, the Zone and streaming. And then they come
- 6:35Speaker 1: back for a home game September fourth against Heartfield Academy.
- 6:41Speaker 1: And Heartfield's built a hell of a problem too.
- 6:45Speaker 2: They have they haven't. It doesn't get any easier after that.
- 6:47Speaker 2: We then host car you real high school back here
- 6:51Speaker 2: on September eleventh, and this is when the rubber meets
- 6:55Speaker 2: the road. I guess you'd say. Then we go to
- 6:57Speaker 2: Jackson Prep. So those three you go to Heartfield, are
- 7:00Speaker 2: you real?
- 7:00Speaker 1: Joy?
- 7:02Speaker 2: Well, three in a row.
- 7:03Speaker 1: That's a gauntlet, okay.
- 7:05Speaker 2: And then I mean it's just one of those things.
- 7:08Speaker 2: But I mean, who doesn't get up for high school football? Look,
- 7:10Speaker 2: college football in the nil deal stuff is major semi pro.
- 7:17Speaker 2: I guess you wouldn't say that but Man High School
- 7:20Speaker 2: football is at its core Friday night lights. It doesn't
- 7:24Speaker 2: get any both no people's nostalgic things.
- 7:28Speaker 1: Tell me about the new building that you are I've
- 7:31Speaker 1: got a minute and a half. Tell me about the
- 7:32Speaker 1: new building that you are building right in between the
- 7:35Speaker 1: football field and the baseball stadium.
- 7:39Speaker 2: Well, it's going to be amazing. December seventh is looking
- 7:43Speaker 2: like completion date. The whole bottom floor will be a
- 7:46Speaker 2: new concession stand, new restrooms, a brand new athletic performance
- 7:52Speaker 2: center for weight room, strength conditioning with George Adams our
- 7:55Speaker 2: his strength coach, and then we've added a softball and
- 8:00Speaker 2: baseball locker room on the bottom. On the top side
- 8:03Speaker 2: there is a i guess a pavilion or a deck
- 8:06Speaker 2: that you can watch football and baseball on with one
- 8:09Speaker 2: hundred seat new boardroom. And then you go down there'll
- 8:12Speaker 2: be academic classes that make a horseshoe. When you stand
- 8:15Speaker 2: at center field of our baseball field, it is looking
- 8:19Speaker 2: like a minor league park. It is beautiful. So if
- 8:23Speaker 2: you're right down Old Ken Road, if you're going north
- 8:26Speaker 2: or south, look right or left and take a gander
- 8:29Speaker 2: at the new building that is going up. There's a
- 8:31Speaker 2: lot of brick. You know, we're in Madison, there's a
- 8:33Speaker 2: lot of brick, but uh, that's it's just really cool
- 8:37Speaker 2: to see both. And it's commig Grate edition Trifflic Department.
- 8:42Speaker 1: That's going to be a great a heck of an
- 8:45Speaker 1: asset for y'all. That's cool. Multipurpose building right in between
- 8:50Speaker 1: the football's stadium in the baseball and that deck where
- 8:54Speaker 1: people can watch football during football season in baseball, and
- 8:57Speaker 1: of course track and field and all sorts of all
- 9:00Speaker 1: sorts of difference.
- 9:00Speaker 2: You have soccer, all those things.
- 9:01Speaker 1: Yeah, that are good. And I think you told me
- 9:03Speaker 1: y'all just put down new turf, right.
- 9:06Speaker 2: Yeah, we have a new turf field that went in.
- 9:09Speaker 2: We used ours up and we try to get ten
- 9:12Speaker 2: ten years is kind of what you get out of
- 9:14Speaker 2: a turfield. Eleven Mayvy. We got close to twelve thirteen years,
- 9:17Speaker 2: so it was the first time we put in a
- 9:19Speaker 2: new field in that amount of time. But it's a
- 9:21Speaker 2: beautiful playing surface for football and soccer. So we're really
- 9:26Speaker 2: excited about the start of our athletics season in the
- 9:29Speaker 2: four times mis All Sports Trophy champions and looking go
- 9:34Speaker 2: for number five.
- 9:36Speaker 1: John Weaver, afflet director at mra we'll have him on
- 9:39Speaker 1: again in a month or so.
- 9:41Speaker 2: Thanks John, Thanks Bo.
- 9:44Speaker 1: Enjoy Madison Ridgeland Academy Football on ESPN one oh five nine,
- 9:49Speaker 1: The Zone
