- 0:17Speaker 2: Fox Sports Radio.
- 0:21Speaker 1: Taylor listening to Dan Buyer's update. Please put this on
- 0:24Speaker 1: the poll at stick got seven to ninety on X.
- 0:27Speaker 1: Does anyone in the history of sports love to feel
- 0:31Speaker 1: disrespected more so than Baker Mayfield's a good question.
- 0:35Speaker 3: I mean, I think he's got a fair case this time.
- 0:38Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 0:38Speaker 3: I mean we were talking about him up to Week
- 0:40Speaker 3: six as an MVP last year and then the team
- 0:43Speaker 3: that considers him a franchise quarterback only offers him a
- 0:46Speaker 3: two year deal.
- 0:47Speaker 4: Yeah, I feel like that's disrespectful.
- 0:49Speaker 1: Taylor made a face, He smiled at first, and then
- 0:51Speaker 1: he winced.
- 0:52Speaker 4: What happened there, Taylor?
- 0:54Speaker 5: I think people want Baker Mayfield to be a lot
- 0:56Speaker 5: better than he is because he's about a middle of
- 0:59Speaker 5: the road quarterback when it comes to QBR and QB ratings,
- 1:03Speaker 5: and he's towards the bottom of half of the league
- 1:05Speaker 5: when it comes to like DVA. People see the chip
- 1:08Speaker 5: on his shoulder, the former number one overall picks the
- 1:11Speaker 5: dance moves, he's got swag. I'm kind of on Tampa
- 1:14Speaker 5: Bay side here where he's thirty one years old. I'm
- 1:17Speaker 5: not racing to give him an extension. He was in
- 1:20Speaker 5: the MVP conversation the first six weeks of the season,
- 1:23Speaker 5: he finishes the season two and seven, plays their way
- 1:26Speaker 5: out of the playoffs. And then if you're saying his
- 1:29Speaker 5: excuse for his play at the end was injuries, okay,
- 1:33Speaker 5: I really don't want to pay that guy.
- 1:34Speaker 6: Then.
- 1:34Speaker 3: But two things. One dance move. I think he's only
- 1:38Speaker 3: got one move, the go to to go to for him.
- 1:42Speaker 3: But also it's just it's a league that doesn't have
- 1:45Speaker 3: a whole lot of good quarterbacks, and so he's one
- 1:48Speaker 3: of the He said himself, he puts himself in a
- 1:50Speaker 3: particular category. I don't know. I don't think he puts
- 1:52Speaker 3: himself in the elite category. I think maybe it's fair
- 1:54Speaker 3: if it's he's second or third tier category, and maybe
- 1:58Speaker 3: this plays into our think about it Thursday later today.
- 2:01Speaker 3: But if you put enough people around a second or
- 2:04Speaker 3: third tier quarterback, you should be good enough for a
- 2:07Speaker 3: good amount of time. So this is where I kind
- 2:09Speaker 3: of go, like, deal, agree with Baker even though I've
- 2:11Speaker 3: never been I'm kind of with Taylor in his career.
- 2:14Speaker 3: I agree that people want him to be better than
- 2:16Speaker 3: he is, but I thought he's shown enough with Tampa
- 2:18Speaker 3: to deserve something better.
- 2:19Speaker 4: The Bucks aren't so sure.
- 2:20Speaker 3: They don't agree, or maybe they're keeping that chip on
- 2:22Speaker 3: his shoulder.
- 2:23Speaker 1: Well, he loves to have the chip on his shoulder,
- 2:25Speaker 1: so if he give him the contract, he by extension
- 2:28Speaker 1: would not have any sort of chip on his shoulder.
- 2:30Speaker 1: That's the great theory, right if you want to say, hey,
- 2:32Speaker 1: just for a theory.
- 2:33Speaker 3: I'm gonna throw away money if I'm right, but I'm
- 2:36Speaker 3: gonna pay this guy a bunch of money and see
- 2:38Speaker 3: if he turned into the worst quarterback in the league
- 2:40Speaker 3: once you get rid of the chip.
- 2:42Speaker 4: Dan Bayer seems to have something here.
- 2:44Speaker 6: Yes, Dad, I don't know if any of you guys
- 2:46Speaker 6: feel the same way I do, so I'm throwing this
- 2:48Speaker 6: out to you. I kind of like it that the
- 2:50Speaker 6: Bucks were like nah, like just to be able to
- 2:53Speaker 6: say no. I feel like we always give in to
- 2:55Speaker 6: the quarterbacks and they're the only position in the NFL
- 2:58Speaker 6: that seems to have this average. As you get older,
- 3:01Speaker 6: you get paid more, and for the Bucks to be like,
- 3:04Speaker 6: all right, maybe we'll franchise tag, yeah, or do some
- 3:06Speaker 6: other things with you, but we're just not gonna pay
- 3:08Speaker 6: you back or pay you that. That's something that I
- 3:10Speaker 6: actually like that an NFL team is actually doing.
- 3:14Speaker 1: Here's the crazy thing about Baker. I think he likes
- 3:16Speaker 1: that the Bucks aren't sure. I'm serious, I'm serious. He
- 3:20Speaker 1: wants that chip on his shoulder. He wants to prove
- 3:22Speaker 1: something to somebody. And now he has something to prove
- 3:25Speaker 1: to everybody, right, because any team can get him next year.
- 3:28Speaker 4: Go ahead, Taylor.
- 3:29Speaker 5: Well, there's two scenarios how this plays out. Because Dan
- 3:31Speaker 5: mentioned the franchise tag. Baker Mayfield either has a great
- 3:35Speaker 5: season this year for Tampa and Tampa could just give
- 3:38Speaker 5: him the franchise tag ensure he's their quarterback next year.
- 3:42Speaker 5: He'll be thirty two next year. Or the other option,
- 3:45Speaker 5: Baker Mayfield struggles this year, he has some kind of
- 3:48Speaker 5: injuries that doesn't allow him to have the season he
- 3:52Speaker 5: expects from himself. And then if you're Tampa, you could
- 3:55Speaker 5: just walk away and reset by picking one of these
- 3:58Speaker 5: quarterbacks in this upcoming draft and kind of resetting, resetting
- 4:02Speaker 5: the clock that you have to be a competitive team
- 4:05Speaker 5: with a quarterback on a rookie deal.
- 4:07Speaker 1: Right for Todd Bowles, there is no clock you can
- 4:09Speaker 1: have a bad year get Todd Bowles out of He's
- 4:12Speaker 1: never leaving.
- 4:13Speaker 5: So sick of.
- 4:13Speaker 4: Todd Bull That's what I'm trying to tell you.
- 4:15Speaker 1: I mean, the expression on his face never changes, and
- 4:17Speaker 1: he's never leaving Tampa Bay because that guy they can
- 4:20Speaker 1: have any type of season, and that guy will be
- 4:22Speaker 1: back on the sidelines as the Bucks head coach next year.
- 4:25Speaker 5: Is he There were so many coaches that got fired
- 4:28Speaker 5: last year, it felt like Tampa Bay just missed the
- 4:31Speaker 5: window to fire Todd Bowles. And by the time they
- 4:33Speaker 5: realize it, they're like, shoot, I guess, I guess we
- 4:36Speaker 5: got Todd Bowles for this upcoming season.
- 4:37Speaker 3: I'm not mad about it. And it plays into what
- 4:39Speaker 3: I was about to say here, because I just realized
- 4:41Speaker 3: after I'd given my Baker take that my biases were
- 4:45Speaker 3: affected in my opinion there. Yeah, because I think you know,
- 4:48Speaker 3: anybody who's listening to this show might know that I
- 4:51Speaker 3: just don't like Tampa I have an issue with that.
- 4:53Speaker 3: And it's not just Tampa, it's also the Bucks. Like,
- 4:55Speaker 3: they've won two championships in my lifetime and the Dolphins
- 4:58Speaker 3: have won zero, absolutely nothing since I've been alive, And
- 5:01Speaker 3: so that part kind of works me.
- 5:03Speaker 5: Stu, I would consider you almost the the godfather of
- 5:07Speaker 5: sports radio, the godfather of early podcasting. I wanted to
- 5:12Speaker 5: run by a podcast for you.
- 5:14Speaker 3: Okay, bless you son.
- 5:15Speaker 5: It's Baker Mayfield's podcasts. Yes, and it's called Bake's Take.
- 5:21Speaker 4: I like it.
- 5:21Speaker 3: Yeah, and you do a segment with ste Goatt's weekly
- 5:24Speaker 3: or maybe every other week. Yes, yes, Bacon Take or.
- 5:28Speaker 4: Yes something like that.
- 5:29Speaker 1: No, Bacon Take is perfect. Let's get this done. Reach
- 5:33Speaker 1: out to Baker Mayfield's people. If he is interested doing
- 5:37Speaker 1: a podcast, Let's put a chip on his shoulder.
- 5:39Speaker 5: I don't really have the best relationship with Baker Mayfield because,
- 5:43Speaker 5: as I've explained before, from our time in Tahoe, I
- 5:47Speaker 5: was already apprehensive about going up and guest booking people.
- 5:51Speaker 5: When I went up to Baker Mayfield, he didn't even
- 5:53Speaker 5: give me an excuse. He just said, I really don't
- 5:54Speaker 5: want to go on sh I know.
- 5:56Speaker 4: He did it.
- 5:57Speaker 1: He's very direct, like that he's fantastic. I love the guy.
- 6:00Speaker 1: If you watch the show Quarterback on Netflix, you will
- 6:02Speaker 1: fall in love with him too.
- 6:03Speaker 4: He's a great Really we go on his show?
- 6:05Speaker 3: Is the question? That's a different question.
- 6:07Speaker 1: Well, I think the way you pitch the show to
- 6:08Speaker 1: him is by telling him, Hey, we think you'd be
- 6:10Speaker 1: a lousy podcast host. Nice.
- 6:12Speaker 3: Yes, he had to create another chip.
- 6:15Speaker 6: Guys, if we're talking selfish reasons, I hope he goes
- 6:18Speaker 6: to free agency just so in March I can say
- 6:21Speaker 6: Baker Mayfield offers from other teams, So it just it
- 6:24Speaker 6: works so well with the name. That's my selfish reasoning
- 6:29Speaker 6: that I want him to not stay in Tampa.
- 6:31Speaker 3: Okay, I don't know if you guys pay attention to
- 6:32Speaker 3: these types of things during the during a you know,
- 6:35Speaker 3: training camp or what have you. But I'm paying attention
- 6:38Speaker 3: to Baker because he's on the bottom right screen here,
- 6:40Speaker 3: and he's he's participating in a trend that I'm a
- 6:43Speaker 3: fan of shorter shorts for gentlemen. But his legs look amazing,
- 6:47Speaker 3: Like I think this guy's gonna have a monster season,
- 6:49Speaker 3: just because he looks like he's got a couple of
- 6:51Speaker 3: tree trunks underneath him and you got the chip on
- 6:54Speaker 3: his shoulder.
- 6:55Speaker 1: That's a great combination. He's uber confident. I am telling you.
- 6:58Speaker 1: We were in Tahoe. He went up there for the
- 7:00Speaker 1: karaoke tournament. Uh, and you know he stunk up the joint.
- 7:04Speaker 1: But if you ask Baker Mayfield, he feels like he
- 7:07Speaker 1: delivered the greatest karaoke performance in the history of karaoke.
- 7:10Speaker 5: Yeah, is he? He's saying I heard it through the
- 7:14Speaker 5: grapevine by Marvin Gay. Yeah, but Stu's doing this unfair
- 7:18Speaker 5: thing to Baker Mayfield.
- 7:20Speaker 4: It wasn't just me, I mean Wingo as well.
- 7:22Speaker 5: I mean, first off, me and ste Gootts basically snuck
- 7:26Speaker 5: into the karaoke party. We were not on the list.
- 7:29Speaker 5: I saw Stu Gotts there, he saw me there, and
- 7:32Speaker 5: we both looked at each other like how'd you get in?
- 7:33Speaker 5: And we were like, we just kept walking. And when
- 7:35Speaker 5: when the guards asked us for our identification, yes, we
- 7:38Speaker 5: just didn't break stride and we just kept going.
- 7:40Speaker 1: We had a couple of important badges on our on
- 7:43Speaker 1: our around our next it made us look official.
- 7:45Speaker 4: We had no business being there.
- 7:46Speaker 5: But is he They're doing karaoke? People are going up
- 7:50Speaker 5: Baker Mayfield goes, I don't think anything of it. I
- 7:54Speaker 5: later see Stu Gotts later in the evening and he
- 7:56Speaker 5: comes up to me and goes, how bad was Baker Mayfield?
- 7:59Speaker 5: Carry like it's the only thing that he was thinking about,
- 8:02Speaker 5: Like Baker Mayfield singing, I heard it through the grapevine
- 8:05Speaker 5: ruined his knight.
- 8:07Speaker 1: No, what I was thinking was it's amazing that everyone
- 8:09Speaker 1: experienced it the same way except the guy doing the singing.
- 8:13Speaker 3: So was that the only bad performance that you were
- 8:16Speaker 3: there for? Or is that just that one just stuck
- 8:17Speaker 3: with you? Because I can't imagine a bunch of people
- 8:19Speaker 3: go up there and are absolutely talented singers.
- 8:22Speaker 4: Who else was bad?
- 8:23Speaker 5: I don't remember Kathy Engelbert being good.
- 8:29Speaker 1: The Chucks were fantastic. Yes, you know, Jake Owen did it,
- 8:34Speaker 1: but he's a professional singer. Alfonso Robero did it, but
- 8:37Speaker 1: he's a professional performer.
- 8:39Speaker 3: He got a second, yes, Jake Owen, Yeah, a country singer. Yes,
- 8:43Speaker 3: went up and did karaoke. Yes, that's that's beneath him.
- 8:47Speaker 3: That's unfair.
- 8:47Speaker 5: So they're allowed to do the karaoke, they're not allowed
- 8:50Speaker 5: to win the karaoke night, So they just staling Dryer
- 8:53Speaker 5: did money, Money brought the house down, great song for her.
- 8:56Speaker 3: Yep.
- 8:57Speaker 1: I would say, you know, based on expectations that Anika
- 9:00Speaker 1: Sormstamp did the best because I had a very low
- 9:04Speaker 1: bar set for the greatest woman's offer of all time.
- 9:07Speaker 4: She absolutely crushed it on stage.
- 9:09Speaker 5: No, to Stue's point, Anika Sorensen has this more like
- 9:13Speaker 5: reserve personality. She got up there and did dance and
- 9:16Speaker 5: queen yeahoush standing.
- 9:19Speaker 3: Ovation personality has nothing to do with your voice that
- 9:22Speaker 3: if you know you've got a good voice.
- 9:24Speaker 5: Stage present, she owned that she owned that stage.
- 9:28Speaker 4: She really so did Baker at least he thought he did.
- 9:31Speaker 4: Did he do the Dougie.
- 9:32Speaker 1: What I'm trying to tell you about Anika is this
- 9:34Speaker 1: is he I have been there for six or seven
- 9:36Speaker 1: years now to wake time, how she's never said a word,
- 9:38Speaker 1: She hasn't undered a single word to any single person.
- 9:42Speaker 4: At that tournament.
- 9:43Speaker 1: And for her to get up there and command the
- 9:44Speaker 1: stage the way she did and then break out and
- 9:47Speaker 1: deliver the song that she delivered, it was beautiful.
- 9:51Speaker 4: He really was.
- 9:51Speaker 1: And I had a very high expectation for Baker Mayfield.
- 9:55Speaker 1: I figured uper confident this guy's gonna crush it. He
- 9:57Speaker 1: probably practiced.
- 9:59Speaker 3: Yeah, nowful have him as a guy who puts on
- 10:01Speaker 3: a show and then you don't really realize that he's
- 10:03Speaker 3: doing a song. It's not very difficult to sing. So
- 10:05Speaker 3: when you hear Marvin Gay, I'm like, wait a second,
- 10:08Speaker 3: he tried to pull that off?
- 10:09Speaker 5: Yes, man, where else can you hear the missing total
- 10:12Speaker 5: clips of the Heart?
- 10:13Speaker 3: I mean hopefully nowhere?
- 10:14Speaker 6: Did Engelbert do wnba to ymca? Was she trying to
- 10:19Speaker 6: do that when she did karaoke?
- 10:21Speaker 4: No, she did, She would have gotten Joyce is very important.
- 10:25Speaker 5: Yeah, she was capitalizing off the US men's national team,
- 10:29Speaker 5: the soccer team, and she did Country Roads because that
- 10:33Speaker 5: was like the song of the week. Yes, it wasn't
- 10:35Speaker 5: a good performance from what I remember.

- 11:07Speaker 1: Our thanks to Mike Felger for joining us last segment
- 11:11Speaker 1: at Dan Vurka to join us at around four twenty
- 11:13Speaker 1: five last week, Taylor and I had a sports radio
- 11:17Speaker 1: moment before we get to think about it Thursday. You know,
- 11:21Speaker 1: we made a song out of it. It's called come on,
- 11:23Speaker 1: no you come on. Let's play that clip because we
- 11:25Speaker 1: just had another one with Mike Felger. So play the
- 11:28Speaker 1: clip of me and Taylor first, sim.
- 11:30Speaker 3: Come on, you come on.
- 11:34Speaker 1: That's just Taylor. But that's the highlight of it. And
- 11:37Speaker 1: now we just had one with Felger calls. It's called
- 11:40Speaker 1: who Cares I Care? But in general I was just saying,
- 11:44Speaker 1: who cares? I mean, it's training kid, that's all I care.
- 11:50Speaker 3: Come on, you come on, I care. Put it to
- 11:55Speaker 3: a song on board at Ricardo No man seems to
- 11:58Speaker 3: be his specialty.
- 11:59Speaker 4: Yes, who Cares I Care? Oh God?
- 12:01Speaker 3: Sports radio?
- 12:02Speaker 4: All right, let's get to a think about it Thursday.
- 12:05Speaker 1: Here this is Taylor counter programming a local afternoon show
- 12:09Speaker 1: here in Miami, Hawkman Crowder and slearro give me the imaging.
- 12:16Speaker 3: You know that segment? Talk about it Tuesday on Hawkman
- 12:19Speaker 3: Crowder in Solero.
- 12:20Speaker 2: This is like that, but bigger, bigger and better, better,
- 12:25Speaker 2: And forty eight hours later, this is think about it Thursday.
- 12:32Speaker 5: So what training camps underway?
- 12:34Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 12:35Speaker 5: Got me thinking about this question, this hypothetical, this would
- 12:38Speaker 5: you rather? Would you rather have the best quarterback in
- 12:43Speaker 5: the NFL or have the best roster in the NFL?
- 12:47Speaker 4: Wow?
- 12:48Speaker 3: I immediately have follow up questions.
- 12:50Speaker 5: I'm here to answer your follow up question.
- 12:52Speaker 3: When you say the best roster, how high does that
- 12:56Speaker 3: put the ceiling at your quarterback? Because obviously, if you
- 12:59Speaker 3: have the bests, a lot of people would say, well,
- 13:01Speaker 3: a good quarterback would go a long way to be
- 13:03Speaker 3: the best roster. So do you have to have like
- 13:05Speaker 3: an average quarterback and then the rest of your roster
- 13:07Speaker 3: is great?
- 13:08Speaker 5: For this example, let's let's use NFL teams.
- 13:12Speaker 4: Currently, Very good question, good follow up. TWI didn't criticize you.
- 13:15Speaker 4: I think you.
- 13:17Speaker 5: I don't think it's an argument. Right now, the best
- 13:19Speaker 5: roster in the NFL seems like it's the Los Angeles Rams,
- 13:22Speaker 5: and a lot of that is due to the fact
- 13:24Speaker 5: that you have an MVP at quarterback in Matthew Stafford.
- 13:27Speaker 5: So I think that's a disqualifier. So let's just say
- 13:31Speaker 5: your quarterback play is Philadelphia Eagles Seattle Seahawks level of
- 13:36Speaker 5: a Jalen Hurts or a Sam Darnold, where your quarterback
- 13:41Speaker 5: nobody is really considering your quarterback a top ten quarterback.
- 13:44Speaker 5: But also they're not detrimental to.
- 13:46Speaker 1: Your team, So they're not top ten quarterbacks, but they
- 13:48Speaker 1: certainly both those teams you just mentioned have top ten rosters, right, yes.
- 13:52Speaker 5: Yes, so they're more game managers your quarterbacks.
- 13:56Speaker 1: Before is he asked five more follow ups eight seven
- 13:59Speaker 1: seven ninety nine on Fox. That is eight seven seven
- 14:01Speaker 1: ninety nine on Fox, because I do believe this is
- 14:04Speaker 1: a thing about it Thursday where the audience can think.
- 14:06Speaker 4: Along with us.
- 14:07Speaker 3: Yeah, No, that's a banger. It wasn't really a follow
- 14:09Speaker 3: up question. It was more like an example. So if
- 14:11Speaker 3: these Los Angeles Rams lost Stafford, let's just say to
- 14:15Speaker 3: a season ending injury and then acquired to a Baker
- 14:20Speaker 3: Baker Mayfield, would that be an example of the best
- 14:25Speaker 3: roster in the league with a quarterback at the level
- 14:27Speaker 3: that you're.
- 14:27Speaker 4: Talking, Well, do you think Baker would win a super
- 14:29Speaker 4: Bowl with that roster?
- 14:30Speaker 3: I think this is part of the question. Okay, yes,
- 14:32Speaker 3: so all right. I think in my experience and this one,
- 14:36Speaker 3: I went back and forth and back and forth, right
- 14:39Speaker 3: because I'm not only considering the NFL that I've watched,
- 14:43Speaker 3: but I'm considering, you know, playing on a bunch of
- 14:44Speaker 3: flag football teams in black the flag football tournaments. And
- 14:47Speaker 3: I think the answer is quarterback. Like I think the
- 14:50Speaker 3: answer to me, Now, what the best quarterback in the
- 14:53Speaker 3: league means, to me means has got to be a
- 14:55Speaker 3: bit of a dual threat as well, Like he can't
- 14:57Speaker 3: be no Tom Brady type and still be the best
- 15:00Speaker 3: quarterback in the league in my opinion. But I think
- 15:03Speaker 3: the best quarterback in the league can make so many
- 15:06Speaker 3: parts of your offense better, and it can make your
- 15:10Speaker 3: defense better because they won't see the field as often
- 15:12Speaker 3: if your quarterback is absolutely dominating the game. And that's
- 15:15Speaker 3: the thing about having the best quarterback in the league.
- 15:18Speaker 3: You could have the best roster in the league. Maybe
- 15:22Speaker 3: you could say your edge rushers can do this, but
- 15:24Speaker 3: the quarterback has more control over the game than anybody
- 15:27Speaker 3: on the field. Correct, And so if you've got the
- 15:29Speaker 3: best one, it's just elevates so many other parts of
- 15:32Speaker 3: your team where and because it's such an important position,
- 15:35Speaker 3: the most important position maybe in sports. I think I
- 15:37Speaker 3: got to go with the best quarterback.
- 15:39Speaker 1: Having the best quarterback covers up a lot. Joe Burrow
- 15:42Speaker 1: took a bad Bengals team to the Super Bowl. They
- 15:44Speaker 1: didn't win it, but he still got to the super Bowl.
- 15:46Speaker 1: It's a shorter way of saying that, yes, efficient.
- 15:50Speaker 5: Yes, Also, Stu, Joe Burrow hasn't gotten back to the
- 15:52Speaker 5: super Bowl. You have a team like the Buffalo Bills
- 15:55Speaker 5: with Josh Allen who has yet to reach a super Bowl,
- 15:58Speaker 5: and people would probably consider Josh Allen, if not the
- 16:02Speaker 5: best quarterback in the NFL, one of the best quarterbacks
- 16:04Speaker 5: in the NFL. I think what you saw last year
- 16:07Speaker 5: Dan Byer Seattle Seahawks. They were one of, if not
- 16:11Speaker 5: the best rosters in football and they kind of walked
- 16:13Speaker 5: their way to a super Bowl when people had questions
- 16:16Speaker 5: about Sam Darnold. But it didn't really matter that Sam
- 16:19Speaker 5: Darnold was never in the conversation for the best quarterback.
- 16:22Speaker 3: Josh Allen is the better example than Joe Burrow because
- 16:25Speaker 3: Joe Burrer's got some injury issues and you can't really
- 16:27Speaker 3: say he's played every game and Keck. But Josh Allen,
- 16:29Speaker 3: if you look at the rest of his roster, especially
- 16:32Speaker 3: on the offensive side, a lot of people would say,
- 16:34Speaker 3: you know, yes, not the best.
- 16:35Speaker 4: Dan. I'll get to you in a second.
- 16:36Speaker 1: It's such a tricky question because the Ravens the year
- 16:39Speaker 1: they won the Super Bowl with Trent Dilfer, absolutely had
- 16:42Speaker 1: the best roster.
- 16:43Speaker 4: One of the worst quarterbacks, but they had the best roster.
- 16:47Speaker 3: You maintain that right like the very next year, still
- 16:49Speaker 3: have the best roster. Probably Trent Dilfer is gonna lose
- 16:52Speaker 3: to some game.
- 16:52Speaker 4: Yeah, well, of course, yes, and no, he answered to
- 16:56Speaker 4: your question. They couldn't sustain it.
- 16:58Speaker 6: Yes, Dan, The level of quarterback is interesting because when
- 17:01Speaker 6: Sam Darnold stopped turning over the football, it made the
- 17:04Speaker 6: Seahawks even more dangerous. But I think it's a no brainer,
- 17:06Speaker 6: better roster, and I think we've seen that with the Seahawks.
- 17:09Speaker 6: I think we saw that with the Eagles a couple
- 17:11Speaker 6: of years ago. Sure, Jalen Hurts is higher, but for
- 17:15Speaker 6: years we've been saying that the Egles have had the
- 17:17Speaker 6: best talent in the National Football League. They made two
- 17:19Speaker 6: out of three Super Bowls. I am a roster guy
- 17:22Speaker 6: over quarterback guy.
- 17:23Speaker 3: Well that's putting, Yeah, that's making Jalen hurts him to
- 17:26Speaker 3: not a great quarterback, which I actually agree with. But
- 17:29Speaker 3: you know, you put prime Lamar Jackson. He was doing
- 17:32Speaker 3: some carrying of that ross.
- 17:34Speaker 1: So here's my problem with the roster. Yeah, but here's
- 17:36Speaker 1: my problem. Lamar Jackson has had good rosters, He's had
- 17:39Speaker 1: good teams.
- 17:40Speaker 4: They go out of their way to add pieces to
- 17:42Speaker 4: help Lamar Jackson and he never gets it done.
- 17:45Speaker 1: So I don't think it's a slam dune that Lamar
- 17:46Speaker 1: Jackson just wins Super Bowls if he's playing for Philadelphia,
- 17:50Speaker 1: Baltimore's good at this.
- 17:51Speaker 3: Well, some would argue even though he won MVPs, he
- 17:53Speaker 3: was never the best quarterback in the league. So it
- 17:55Speaker 3: kind of throws off this whole discussion, like, is it
- 17:58Speaker 3: Patrick Mahomes peak? Patrick Mahomes? Could he have carried an average,
- 18:02Speaker 3: you know, roster to a Super Bowl? I think so,
- 18:04Speaker 3: and I think you know, he elevated a handful of people.
- 18:07Speaker 1: So Mahomes is a good example because when he was
- 18:09Speaker 1: the best quarterback in the league.
- 18:11Speaker 4: He took the Chiefs to the Super Bowl, won them
- 18:13Speaker 4: Super Bowls, but.
- 18:14Speaker 1: Also at some mediocre years where the roster was really good,
- 18:16Speaker 1: the defense in particular was really good, and he tacked.
- 18:19Speaker 4: On a couple of more Super Bowls. I see Dan
- 18:22Speaker 4: nodding with Philips better than Dan nodding his head and agreement.
- 18:25Speaker 6: No, you're absolutely right, your guy, spags Is defense was
- 18:27Speaker 6: a reason why the Chiefs ended up winning, you know,
- 18:31Speaker 6: against San Francisco, saying super Bowl fifty eight.
- 18:33Speaker 3: Here's another reason. And I don't know if this got
- 18:35Speaker 3: into your thinking, Taylor again, sort of maintaining sustainability of that,
- 18:40Speaker 3: if I have the best quarterback in the league, I'm
- 18:43Speaker 3: going to assume he's going to be the best quarterback
- 18:45Speaker 3: in the league for eight nine years. Maybe you can't
- 18:49Speaker 3: afford to have the best roster in the league for
- 18:51Speaker 3: very long. Like these Rams are all in right now,
- 18:54Speaker 3: and then they're going to probably have to take a
- 18:55Speaker 3: dip unless you know they have the best quarterback in
- 18:57Speaker 3: the league, which last year they also did.
- 18:59Speaker 5: Yeah, do us feel like the Rams have been all
- 19:02Speaker 5: in for the past like eight nine years and their
- 19:05Speaker 5: draft picks.
- 19:05Speaker 3: And how many times is it actually cashed out? Like
- 19:08Speaker 3: how many times did they actually have the year that
- 19:10Speaker 3: they were hoping?
- 19:10Speaker 6: Yeah, how about this question in using the Rams. So
- 19:13Speaker 6: if the Rams lose Miles Garrett for the season because
- 19:15Speaker 6: of injury this year, is their season over? No, I
- 19:20Speaker 6: don't think it is. If they lose Matthew Stafford, as
- 19:22Speaker 6: you guys were talking about, is their season over, that.
- 19:24Speaker 3: Is a high risk. You're right, and we've looked at
- 19:26Speaker 3: We've seen it happen with the Patriots. They had the
- 19:29Speaker 3: best quarterback in the league, lost them for a year,
- 19:31Speaker 3: came back one even more.
- 19:32Speaker 1: But I've also seen teams like the Giants back in
- 19:34Speaker 1: the eighties lose Phil Simms, who was having an MVP season,
- 19:38Speaker 1: replaced by Jeff Hosteler, and that team still won the Super.
- 19:41Speaker 3: Breaching halt on that we never was sim even closed
- 19:44Speaker 3: for the best quarterback.
- 19:45Speaker 4: I would rather not going to think for a week
- 19:47Speaker 4: after today. I mean, I gotta tell you, I'm really
- 19:49Speaker 4: thinking right.
- 19:49Speaker 6: Now, eight injuries away from having an awful season than one.
- 19:54Speaker 3: But you're not. You're you're an average quarterback away, like
- 19:57Speaker 3: he could have three or four bad days in a season,
- 20:00Speaker 3: and you're cooked, like you're not the team that you
- 20:02Speaker 3: thought you were.
- 20:03Speaker 5: What if you're a Dolphins fan though, where it's like
- 20:05Speaker 5: you have Dan Marino and you'd never won a super
- 20:09Speaker 5: Bowl with Dan Marino. But looking back on the Dolphins,
- 20:12Speaker 5: it's kind of nice to say you have Marino.
- 20:14Speaker 4: It was great.
- 20:14Speaker 3: It was great for what it was. We would have
- 20:16Speaker 3: loved to have one, like one super Bowl championship, one
- 20:21Speaker 3: trophy instead of just every year because after the thing
- 20:24Speaker 3: with Marinos specifically was he went his first year and
- 20:27Speaker 3: it was just like, Okay, let's do better, let's win one,
- 20:30Speaker 3: and it was just worse from then all.
- 20:32Speaker 1: Well, I think people feel like the Dolphins during that
- 20:34Speaker 1: time had the best quarterback, Niners had the best roster.
- 20:37Speaker 1: I'm not certain the Niners didn't have the best quarterback
- 20:39Speaker 1: and the best roster.
- 20:40Speaker 3: Yeah, but I think that was actually debatable, which even
- 20:43Speaker 3: though Joe Montana will tell you Marino was better, it
- 20:45Speaker 3: was actually debatable then whether Montana or Marino were the
- 20:49Speaker 3: best quarterback that the forty nine ers just had everything you.
- 20:51Speaker 5: Want to talk about Sports Radio Staples, How did we
- 20:54Speaker 5: get back to Marino or Montana right? Look at that
- 20:57Speaker 5: we always do well, who was the best quarter That
- 21:00Speaker 5: is a great sign for a great segment if you
- 21:03Speaker 5: somehow can find your way back to Marino or Montana.
- 21:06Speaker 4: Yeah take that.
- 21:07Speaker 6: Hok Now about those Ken Stabler Raiders teams, guys, I'm
- 21:11Speaker 6: just kidding a total joke, that's all.
- 21:12Speaker 7: It was.
- 21:13Speaker 3: Just I wanted to go back further.
- 21:14Speaker 4: That's all.
- 21:16Speaker 3: I was gonna say. I have no idea what you're referencing.
- 21:18Speaker 3: Was he maybe the best quarterback or was that the
- 21:20Speaker 3: best roster?
- 21:20Speaker 7: No?
- 21:20Speaker 4: Clear? I mean l White lost to some bad quarterbacks.
- 21:25Speaker 4: Who what better rosters?
- 21:27Speaker 1: Oh?
- 21:27Speaker 4: Man, I gotta stop thinking.
- 21:30Speaker 3: My head is burnie.
- 21:31Speaker 4: This was a doozy of a question.
- 21:36Speaker 3: Come on, you come on.
- 21:37Speaker 2: Be sure to catch live editions of Stu Godson Company Live.
- 21:41Speaker 2: WHEKDA said three pm Eastern twelve pm Pacific.
- 21:48Speaker 4: Ad Nan Burker to join us.
- 21:50Speaker 1: At about fifteen minutes we went to break there and
- 21:53Speaker 1: is he muttered to me, I think I have a
- 21:55Speaker 1: new game for us.
- 21:56Speaker 3: Yeah, So it was It's kind of maybe as I
- 21:59Speaker 3: was thinking of this one topic and it just sort
- 22:01Speaker 3: of the way I was thinking about it sort of
- 22:03Speaker 3: made me think maybe we can do a game like
- 22:06Speaker 3: this going into the future. And it's remember when and
- 22:10Speaker 3: I don't mean like getting on nostalgic and being like, hey,
- 22:13Speaker 3: remember when the Dolphins had Den Marino and he was
- 22:16Speaker 3: the best quarterback in the league. But something that maybe
- 22:19Speaker 3: just happened or happened relatively recently, that was just kind
- 22:22Speaker 3: of glossed over after a while, right, like, here's here's
- 22:25Speaker 3: the perfect one.
- 22:26Speaker 4: Okay.
- 22:27Speaker 3: Remember when somebody was recording Steve Kerr in his car
- 22:31Speaker 3: and they were asking him about Lebron and he said, oh,
- 22:34Speaker 3: we got him. Like what was that about?
- 22:38Speaker 4: Really?
- 22:39Speaker 3: Like, obviously Steve Kerr in particular just a pretty funny guy.
- 22:42Speaker 3: That was when I saw it, I was like, oh,
- 22:45Speaker 3: that's definitely sarcasm, Like that's just that I don't know
- 22:47Speaker 3: anything response from Steve Kerr, but it kind of moved
- 22:51Speaker 3: the needle a little bit regarding the conversation around Lebron.
- 22:54Speaker 3: Maybe not move the needle in terms of betting odds,
- 22:56Speaker 3: but the conversation, right, is he serious? And they start
- 22:59Speaker 3: painting the picture of you know, what Lebron would look
- 23:02Speaker 3: like there, and it just kind of made me laugh
- 23:04Speaker 3: because I was reading a story from Anthony Slater at
- 23:06Speaker 3: ESPN and it was basically talking about Lebron saying he
- 23:11Speaker 3: didn't feel comfortable at least, you know. According to sources,
- 23:14Speaker 3: the idea from the warrior side is he didn't really
- 23:17Speaker 3: feel comfortable going joining a team that he had so
- 23:21Speaker 3: many wars with in the finals because of how it
- 23:24Speaker 3: would be viewed publicly aka the stud gotts KD situation
- 23:28Speaker 3: where people would be but it would be different this
- 23:31Speaker 3: time because obviously he would go there to help them.
- 23:33Speaker 3: They obviously haven't won a championship in a few years,
- 23:35Speaker 3: and so it would be entirely different. But it got
- 23:37Speaker 3: me to thinking that, like, yeah, it's nonsense if Lebron
- 23:41Speaker 3: is saying, on one hand, I'm not talk about legacy,
- 23:44Speaker 3: it's just about winning, not about family, and on the
- 23:46Speaker 3: other hand, supposedly from this end, saying yeah, I didn't
- 23:49Speaker 3: want to play for that team in particular because of
- 23:51Speaker 3: the way the public would have viewed it, Right, it
- 23:54Speaker 3: seems kind of nonsense, like you can't have it both
- 23:56Speaker 3: ways Necessarily.
- 23:57Speaker 1: It seems like every team felt like they had a
- 24:00Speaker 1: chance of getting Lebron James, or thought they were getting
- 24:02Speaker 1: Lebron James of the teams available. I think what happened
- 24:05Speaker 1: is clear he wasn't expecting Boston to trade Jalen Brown
- 24:09Speaker 1: to Philadelphia and that roster to become that attractive where
- 24:13Speaker 1: he's like, hey, forget about all that other stuff, I
- 24:15Speaker 1: have a chance to win a title there.
- 24:17Speaker 3: But even after he made a decision, it wasn't like
- 24:19Speaker 3: he didn't even mention the Warriors. I think he mentioned Cleveland,
- 24:22Speaker 3: he mentioned Miami. And so it's just one of those
- 24:25Speaker 3: situations where you're just like, Okay, if he had gone
- 24:28Speaker 3: to the Warriors, would people have thought of it that way?
- 24:31Speaker 3: And also, you know, when it comes to Steve Kerr,
- 24:34Speaker 3: did he really know absolutely nothing? And it was just
- 24:37Speaker 3: a situation where I'm just gonna say this because why not.
- 24:41Speaker 1: I think Steve Kerr thought he had Lebron James. You
- 24:44Speaker 1: think so, based on the friendship of him and Steph Curry.
- 24:46Speaker 1: Lebron and Steph Curry. Yes, And I think the Heat
- 24:49Speaker 1: thought they had Lebron James, and I think the Cavs
- 24:51Speaker 1: thought they were getting.
- 24:52Speaker 4: Lebron James the only one who didn't want him with
- 24:54Speaker 4: the Knicks.
- 24:55Speaker 3: About that, could you imagine, like I know that the
- 24:57Speaker 3: Heat had the gaff with the YouTube thing, but could
- 25:00Speaker 3: you imagine if like Eric Spolster was just like, oh
- 25:03Speaker 3: we got him. It would be like, it's so out
- 25:05Speaker 3: of character, it would be weird, and it would and
- 25:07Speaker 3: it would have been wrong, and so you just would
- 25:09Speaker 3: have been like, I spoke, can you go back and
- 25:11Speaker 3: just talk about what the hell you were thinking when
- 25:14Speaker 3: you said that?
- 25:14Speaker 1: Yeah, Taylor, I don't know about you, but he made
- 25:17Speaker 1: a point about Kerr and Lebron.
- 25:18Speaker 4: I'm not certain what the game is.
- 25:20Speaker 3: So you I mean remember when, Yeah, I remember when?
- 25:23Speaker 3: Can I get the harp sound again? Please?
- 25:27Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 25:30Speaker 3: Because yeah, I was going back to the Steve Kerr
- 25:32Speaker 3: point would normally be when that happened, Yes, and it
- 25:34Speaker 3: just starts a conversation.
- 25:35Speaker 1: Normally people would go back to like the eighties or
- 25:37Speaker 1: their childhood, or you went back like two weeks. Well
- 25:40Speaker 1: that's and I've said that on the front end. I said,
- 25:41Speaker 1: it's not about a nostalgic thing listening. It was about
- 25:44Speaker 1: something that literally just happened recently that got glossed over.
- 25:48Speaker 5: So I don't want to sidetrack us too much, but
- 25:50Speaker 5: there's a moment that I've had stuck in my head
- 25:51Speaker 5: that I just want to use as my remember.
- 25:53Speaker 4: When Okay, oh, we're playing it.
- 25:55Speaker 5: Yeah, and I'm gonna go a little I'm gonna go
- 25:57Speaker 5: a couple of years back.
- 25:58Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 25:58Speaker 5: Well, remember when Mac Jones threw that lateral back and
- 26:01Speaker 5: Chandler Jones stiff armed him through the turf in that
- 26:03Speaker 5: Patriots Raider game. It was like they were doing like
- 26:10Speaker 5: the the laterals and trying to score before it got
- 26:13Speaker 5: to overtime. They had overtime sealed already and Jacoby Myers
- 26:18Speaker 5: like threw one back and then Mac Jones was on
- 26:22Speaker 5: the receiving end and it was just a one on
- 26:23Speaker 5: one between him and Chandler Jones.
- 26:25Speaker 1: Oh, yes, it's all coming together now. I do remember, well,
- 26:28Speaker 1: Dan Byer has perked up here.
- 26:30Speaker 5: Yes, yes, I have.
- 26:33Speaker 3: Waiting for the moment.
- 26:34Speaker 6: It's funny because growing up, I don't remember Stanford Cal happening.
- 26:38Speaker 6: I remember seeing the highlights of it, and I also
- 26:41Speaker 6: remember on Football Folly's videos of Jim Marshall running the
- 26:45Speaker 6: wrong way. I think that the Patriots Raiders game in
- 26:48Speaker 6: that play is our professional Cal Stanford because of the
- 26:53Speaker 6: pure chaos of that game and what was happening it was.
- 26:57Speaker 3: It was not to mean the.
- 26:58Speaker 6: Patriots had the football trying to figure out a way
- 27:01Speaker 6: for them to win the game. It's I think it's
- 27:04Speaker 6: one of the craziest plays we've ever seen in NFL history,
- 27:07Speaker 6: and that doesn't get enough recognition for how you know,
- 27:11Speaker 6: bat bleep crazy.
- 27:12Speaker 4: It actually was because the band didn't run out of
- 27:14Speaker 4: the fields, right.
- 27:17Speaker 1: Remember when thing it's catching on, Damn Buyer's excited. Oh,
- 27:22Speaker 1: you're proud of yourself that it was just a thought
- 27:25Speaker 1: one that I mean, you didn't clearly listen to the
- 27:27Speaker 1: rules they did.
- 27:27Speaker 4: Yes, well that's fair. I never do. That's also fair.
- 27:31Speaker 4: Now I'm trying to think of it. Remember when I
- 27:33Speaker 4: feel left out of this guy?
- 27:35Speaker 5: I have one?
- 27:35Speaker 4: Okay, go a second one. Wow.
- 27:37Speaker 5: I remember when Jazz Chisholm said he was going to
- 27:40Speaker 5: go fifty to fifty before the year. He's got sixteen
- 27:43Speaker 5: home runs. Bomb bomb Great, he just got picked off
- 27:49Speaker 5: first base.
- 27:53Speaker 4: Yankees had a rough loss last time.
- 27:55Speaker 5: No, dude, it's getting worse right here. Jason Dominga's just
- 27:58Speaker 5: had a leadoff triple. It's zero zero, lead off triple
- 28:02Speaker 5: to start the sixth inning, and his slide to third
- 28:06Speaker 5: he makes it there by a good two seconds, but
- 28:09Speaker 5: he came in with such velocity he slid right off
- 28:12Speaker 5: the bag and they just tagged him out.
- 28:14Speaker 3: Thursday shows are dangerous because it's a lot Mondays and
- 28:17Speaker 3: Thursday Afternoon Baseball.
- 28:19Speaker 1: Yeah, yesterday, yesterday too, it was also dangerous where Ricardo
- 28:25Speaker 1: announced the Marlins had saved their season.
- 28:27Speaker 4: Here's the great thing about live radio as well.
- 28:30Speaker 6: Remember ten minutes ago when the Royals were leading the
- 28:33Speaker 6: Twins in the bottom of the ninth three to nothing,
- 28:34Speaker 6: and the pitch swung on and hit high.
- 28:36Speaker 3: In the air, deep right starter field for Cody Clemens,
- 28:39Speaker 3: towards the pig.
- 28:39Speaker 7: Wall, and it's gone for a game winning plan slam
- 28:43Speaker 7: and Cody Clemens has fulfilled the prophecy and the Twins
- 28:49Speaker 7: walk off the Royals for the second time and three
- 28:53Speaker 7: draynatic day.
- 28:54Speaker 6: Now there's another reason why I played that on the
- 28:56Speaker 6: Treasure Island Baseball Network. It's also six months from now
- 28:59Speaker 6: we'll say, remember when we played that Twins Royals highlight,
- 29:02Speaker 6: like that'll be such.
- 29:03Speaker 3: A memorable moment because we hardly.
- 29:06Speaker 4: Ever do in sports talk radio.
- 29:08Speaker 3: What a vehicle this game is?
- 29:09Speaker 1: There good provides that we can go off on somebody
- 29:11Speaker 1: like Jesz Chisholm. We can play sound, we can make jokes.
- 29:14Speaker 3: I love this game.
- 29:16Speaker 1: Remember when I I told Mike, I asked Mike Felger,
- 29:19Speaker 1: who cares? And he said I care?
- 29:23Speaker 4: In general. I was just saying, who cares? I mean,
- 29:25Speaker 4: it's training cap I care.
- 29:29Speaker 1: And so do you remember when I actually did care
- 29:31Speaker 1: about that stuff, Israel oh Man, because you've known me
- 29:34Speaker 1: for a long time. I used to care if the
- 29:36Speaker 1: Jets new wide receiver didn't look good first day in
- 29:40Speaker 1: training gip I did.
- 29:41Speaker 4: Felger was right to call me out.
- 29:42Speaker 3: Definitely, especially a guy who's currently in Boston where they're
- 29:46Speaker 3: you know, mad about sports twenty shares. I believe that's good. Yeah,
- 29:49Speaker 3: and you're telling them why should we care that our
- 29:52Speaker 3: big free agent acquisition wide bride receiver acquisition has been
- 29:56Speaker 3: terrible so far. Yeah, they care, they care a lot.
- 30:01Speaker 3: But you haven't had that level of interest, like training
- 30:04Speaker 3: camp level of interest in the football team in a
- 30:06Speaker 3: long time. Requires your team to have been decent recently
- 30:11Speaker 3: or you want are having the potential of being decent
- 30:13Speaker 3: this year. Because I haven't cared about a Dolphins training
- 30:16Speaker 3: camp probably since Tyreek Hill's second season. Yeah and so yeah,
- 30:20Speaker 3: and before that, it was maybe a whole decade of
- 30:23Speaker 3: not caring about training camp.
- 30:24Speaker 1: I think it's the goal at Chris Simms impact on
- 30:26Speaker 1: me where I've spoken to them so much over the
- 30:29Speaker 1: last seven or eight years, and if I brought up
- 30:32Speaker 1: that AJ Brown didn't look good first or second day
- 30:35Speaker 1: of training camp, the connection with Drake May wasn't working,
- 30:38Speaker 1: they would both tell me.
- 30:39Speaker 4: To shut up.
- 30:40Speaker 3: Yeah, but I think they've just been in it so
- 30:42Speaker 3: long where they are probably not as passionate about stuff
- 30:44Speaker 3: because it wasn't just that it not to really dig
- 30:47Speaker 3: deep on your comment here.
- 30:48Speaker 1: But if they would tell me to shut up because
- 30:50Speaker 1: it doesn't matter the first two or three days of
- 30:52Speaker 1: training camp.
- 30:53Speaker 3: It doesn't matter unless you're a team coming off of
- 30:56Speaker 3: a Super Bowl loss. And AJ Brown, this particular person
- 30:59Speaker 3: was had a bad previous season and is now playing
- 31:03Speaker 3: with a much better quarterback, presumably, so you would think
- 31:06Speaker 3: if it wasn't Jalen Hurts's fault and if AJ Brown
- 31:10Speaker 3: was his normal self, he should look good with Drake
- 31:12Speaker 3: May right off the bat. So if your big acquisition
- 31:16Speaker 3: is giving sign that it's not going to be a
- 31:18Speaker 3: big acquisition, yeah, I kind of want to know right now.
- 31:22Speaker 1: Dan Bayer, do you still care about that stuff like
- 31:24Speaker 1: the first couple of days of training camp. If I
- 31:26Speaker 1: told you the Seahawks, if someone came out with a report, hey,
- 31:29Speaker 1: Darnold not looking as good as he was a year ago.
- 31:32Speaker 4: Would you care?
- 31:33Speaker 7: No?
- 31:34Speaker 6: I don't care.
- 31:34Speaker 3: I'm the anti Felgriners.
- 31:39Speaker 1: Twenty shares in Boston, though, Dad, I know, I know
- 31:44Speaker 1: what a playground that city is. I mean, just for
- 31:46Speaker 1: sports radio.
- 31:47Speaker 3: I got a lot going on right now.
- 31:48Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 31:49Speaker 1: Well, they have the Red Sox and they also Yes,
- 31:51Speaker 1: but fury is better than celebration. I think for sports
- 31:54Speaker 1: radio being upset about something, the Celtics is probably drawing bigger.
- 31:59Speaker 4: Numbers for them than the Red Socks, making this this
- 32:01Speaker 4: monumental comeback, much to Taylor's chagrin.
- 32:03Speaker 3: I was about to act Taylor what he thought about
- 32:06Speaker 3: training camp and his level of interest, but I just
- 32:07Speaker 3: realized his team just depends on wherever Mac Hollins plays.
- 32:10Speaker 4: Remember when the Red Sox were bad.
- 32:13Speaker 5: Two weeks ago. Yeah, but Stu, you're forgetting right now.
- 32:20Speaker 5: For Boston sports radio, it's the perfect time, right before
- 32:23Speaker 5: the deadline where you could just call in and be like,
- 32:26Speaker 5: I think we should acquire Bobby Witt.
- 32:29Speaker 4: Is that what they're doing? Yeah?
- 32:32Speaker 5: Go get Auto Lopez from the mallins I like when
- 32:35Speaker 5: I parked my car.
- 32:36Speaker 3: Yeah, I like to say that I don't really care
- 32:39Speaker 3: that much about the NFL sometimes. But then I saw
- 32:41Speaker 3: on the screen and I think it was first things.
- 32:44Speaker 3: First I saw on the screen where they said the
- 32:47Speaker 3: NFL season six weeks from today, and I got really
- 32:50Speaker 3: happy about it. I was like, Wow, that sounds like
- 32:52Speaker 3: it's right around the corner.
- 32:53Speaker 4: I believe it's forty one days to be exact.
- 32:56Speaker 3: I think they're starting on a Thursday, right, yea, so
- 32:58Speaker 3: it's six weeks from today like Wednesday.
- 33:00Speaker 6: Sure start on a Wednesday, real, Yeah, because of the
- 33:03Speaker 6: Seahawks and Patriots will play Wednesday night, and then the
- 33:05Speaker 6: Australia game is Thursday night between the Rams and.
- 33:07Speaker 3: As well the Australia games in the future anyway, so
- 33:10Speaker 3: it probably Thursday.
- 33:12Speaker 5: Wasn't a month until college football?
- 33:15Speaker 4: When does Carolina play? First game?
- 33:18Speaker 5: Is the first game?
- 33:18Speaker 4: Yeah? So when they lose? What's the date?
- 33:20Speaker 5: August twenty nine?
- 33:23Speaker 1: Ad Nan Vik is going to join us cover it
- 33:25Speaker 1: up here in the next I've been I'm looking forward
- 33:28Speaker 1: to that. So does this game have staying power? Remember
- 33:31Speaker 1: when I think so Taylor. I need a final verdict,
- 33:34Speaker 1: but I think I think it's a pretty good one.
- 33:36Speaker 4: I like it.
- 33:36Speaker 3: I might have introduced it poorly. Maybe I didn't. Maybe
- 33:40Speaker 3: I introduced it and didn't get to my point on
- 33:41Speaker 3: Lebron and Steve Kirk properly. But I think the game
- 33:44Speaker 3: itself has legs. Izzy, I want to know who you
- 33:46Speaker 3: agree with. Last night I went out for a dinner,
- 33:49Speaker 3: for a steak dinner, and it was great. I told
- 33:53Speaker 3: my wife to take a piece of the Porterhouse, okay,
- 33:55Speaker 3: and I said, this is the greatest piece of steak
- 33:57Speaker 3: you're ever.
- 33:58Speaker 4: Going to have.
- 33:58Speaker 1: And she put it in catch up and my dad said,
- 34:01Speaker 1: what is this amateur hour? It's the worst decision your
- 34:03Speaker 1: wife has ever made, and she married you. Be sure

- 34:23Speaker 1: Our thanks to ad Nan Verk for joining us, Mike
- 34:26Speaker 1: Felger as well. We'll get to the one hundred greatest
- 34:29Speaker 1: dot Com one hundred greatest baseball players.
- 34:31Speaker 4: Of all time.
- 34:32Speaker 1: According to a guy named Jake but Is, he hasn't
- 34:34Speaker 1: stopped laughing since we had had that man on, and
- 34:37Speaker 1: quite frankly, I don't blame him.
- 34:39Speaker 3: I mean, if we're talking top one hundred, I think
- 34:42Speaker 3: this would make your top one hundred lists of misspeaks
- 34:46Speaker 3: because you just created a word out of thin air
- 34:48Speaker 3: and it sounded perfectly normal.
- 34:50Speaker 4: Yes, let's play it.
- 34:51Speaker 1: Is the criticism fair of Aaron Boone. This team is
- 34:54Speaker 1: not good at the fundamentals. I mean, obviously you were
- 34:59Speaker 1: talking fundament meals. Was there another word in your head
- 35:01Speaker 1: that you were combining that with?
- 35:03Speaker 7: No?
- 35:03Speaker 4: If you play it.
- 35:04Speaker 1: Again, I was trying to say fundamentals, but ad Nan
- 35:07Speaker 1: said a little something towards the end, and it threw
- 35:10Speaker 1: me off. He made a sound, he did something we
- 35:12Speaker 1: weren't exactly a line. Let's play it again, you'll hear
- 35:14Speaker 1: it is the criticism fair of Aaron Boone. This team
- 35:17Speaker 1: is not good at the fundamentals. He did say, ever,
- 35:21Speaker 1: which I've threw your brain off, and then you just
- 35:23Speaker 1: added a couple of syllables to the end of fundamentals.
- 35:26Speaker 1: This coming from the guy who watched footfault by calling
- 35:30Speaker 1: it foot fun fundamentals sounds like fundamentals combined with intangibles.
- 35:36Speaker 5: Yeah, fundamentals that were intangible, right, fundamental fundamental.
- 35:41Speaker 1: I appreciate you trying to come up with the right
- 35:43Speaker 1: excuse for me, but there is no excuse for that.
- 35:45Speaker 3: I mean, I feel like we can build up this.
- 35:47Speaker 3: I feel like, you know, if Tim Duncan was the
- 35:49Speaker 3: big fundamental, then we can go with you know, Victor
- 35:52Speaker 3: wimbin Yama's the big fundamental because he's got both fundamentals
- 35:56Speaker 3: and intangibles.
- 35:57Speaker 4: I don't know what happened to me. I mean, room
- 36:00Speaker 4: me off.
- 36:00Speaker 3: You heard it right, I did?
- 36:01Speaker 1: I did, Yes, But it wasn't enough where I should
- 36:04Speaker 1: take fundamentals and make it fundamentalbal.
- 36:07Speaker 3: Well, because normally, if somebody interrupts you, you cut off
- 36:09Speaker 3: a syllable or yes, you don't add syllables to the
- 36:12Speaker 3: word so you can just extend the time.
- 36:14Speaker 4: I felt like I owed everyone an extra syllable.
- 36:17Speaker 1: Give it to mikey Ed is out today his kids
- 36:21Speaker 1: playing for a first state championship in baseball.
- 36:25Speaker 4: Mikey cares more about it than his kid does, so
- 36:28Speaker 4: he is he is off today.
- 36:30Speaker 1: Taylor will take care of the one hundred greatest dot
- 36:33Speaker 1: com The one hundred greatest baseball players.
- 36:35Speaker 4: According to a guy named Jake.
- 36:37Speaker 5: Where we leave off Taylor, we left off at number
- 36:39Speaker 5: sixty seven?
- 36:41Speaker 1: Tom Glavin, all right, sixty seven, Tommy g all right,
- 36:44Speaker 1: So who's number sixty six?
- 36:46Speaker 5: Melot?
- 36:51Speaker 3: That's how you got to say that.
- 36:52Speaker 4: Yeah, well, that's the only way to say it. How
- 36:56Speaker 4: else would you say melot? I don't know.
- 36:59Speaker 3: By the way the tone, everything was perfect about that.
- 37:01Speaker 3: I also have no idea what kind of a baseball
- 37:03Speaker 3: player he was. I just know his name.
- 37:04Speaker 1: Well, he's the sixty sixth greatest baseball player of all
- 37:07Speaker 1: time according to Jake.
- 37:08Speaker 5: Obviously, yeah, pesky, almost almost three thousand hits. Just a
- 37:12Speaker 5: nice fundamentable player, look.
- 37:15Speaker 3: Good at the fundamentables. But I wouldn't think of a
- 37:17Speaker 3: guy in the top one hundred. And one of the
- 37:19Speaker 3: adjectives that I want is pesky. Like that guy feels
- 37:22Speaker 3: like he's in the top two fifty maybe, but not
- 37:24Speaker 3: top hundred.
- 37:25Speaker 4: You know who's horrible? The fundamentals, your Yankees.
- 37:30Speaker 3: Any team in New York.
- 37:31Speaker 2: Man.
- 37:31Speaker 3: The Mets are terrible, by the way.
- 37:33Speaker 1: I forgot to ask Id Dan if Indiana is a
- 37:35Speaker 1: football or basketball school.
- 37:36Speaker 4: My bad. Next week, who's number sixty.
- 37:39Speaker 5: Five slamming Sammy Sosa?
- 37:42Speaker 4: Wow? So Melott is just one spot behind Sammy Sosa.
- 37:47Speaker 3: My Dominican brother.
- 37:48Speaker 1: I need to look up Mellot's numbers, I mean do
- 37:51Speaker 1: I I thought you were gonna say melnts.
- 37:57Speaker 5: First nationally player to surpass five hundred career home runs.
- 38:01Speaker 4: Okay, really, okay, I did not know Melout was a
- 38:04Speaker 4: power hit. Well that's not pesky though, No, it's not. Yes,
- 38:08Speaker 4: what I was.
- 38:08Speaker 5: Doing, Yeah, what I was doing there? I just saw
- 38:11Speaker 5: a black and white pitcher, and when I see a
- 38:13Speaker 5: black and white picture basketball player, Yes, I kind of
- 38:16Speaker 5: just assume anybody that played in the black and white
- 38:17Speaker 5: era of.
- 38:18Speaker 3: Right based why dominate the NBA.
- 38:21Speaker 1: And then but you realized, Babe, Ruth Louke Garrick, I
- 38:26Speaker 1: mean Joe DiMaggio all in the black and white era,
- 38:29Speaker 1: you know, Yeah, yeah, Melot had hundred and fifty one
- 38:36Speaker 1: RBIs in one sea.
- 38:38Speaker 5: But if I if if you said, hey, babe, Ruth pesky.
- 38:42Speaker 5: Everybody would push back when to be fair to me,
- 38:45Speaker 5: when I said Melott was pesky, nobody really had any pushback.
- 38:49Speaker 3: I told you I had no idea who he was
- 38:51Speaker 3: as a player.
- 38:52Speaker 4: I should have known him better he saw me.
- 38:54Speaker 3: I mean, oh, he's a giant his whole career. Huh,
- 38:56Speaker 3: he was a giant old.
- 38:57Speaker 5: That's big for him to one one team legacy guy.
- 39:00Speaker 4: Yeah, did I get the RB I wrong?
- 39:02Speaker 1: I think it was one four hundred and something. I said, yes, yes,
- 39:06Speaker 1: but I think it was one thirty six or thirty
- 39:08Speaker 1: or high.
- 39:08Speaker 4: But I can't see. I have my glasses.
- 39:10Speaker 3: One fifty one is right. That just didn't happen to
- 39:12Speaker 3: lead the league that year.
- 39:15Speaker 4: The Black and White Area a bunch of pesky players.
- 39:18Speaker 2: Uh.
- 39:19Speaker 4: Anyway, who's sixty four here?
- 39:21Speaker 5: Wade bogs Bogsy? Yes, I mean no. Now, if the
- 39:28Speaker 5: list was how many beers can you drink on an airplane? Yeah,
- 39:32Speaker 5: Wade Boggs is in sixty four. He's number one.
- 39:34Speaker 4: No, Yeah, maybe David Wells.
- 39:35Speaker 3: But wow, it'd be great.
- 39:37Speaker 4: Cody.
- 39:38Speaker 5: I think Foggs would drink more beers on a plane, Craig.
- 39:42Speaker 3: Cody would be in the top five, though David Wells
- 39:44Speaker 3: would be the very next name on my list.
- 39:46Speaker 4: Do you think Boggs is deserving of that?
- 39:48Speaker 7: I mean.
- 39:50Speaker 3: I thought he was a great.
- 39:51Speaker 5: He's kind of like Tony Gwynn, you know, compiler.
- 39:54Speaker 4: Well, I mean just an average guy, just.
- 39:58Speaker 1: An average guy, not just average guy. Yes, he's a
- 40:02Speaker 1: Yankee though for me, so that that that Booy's a
- 40:04Speaker 1: world champion. Yes, did you call Tony Gwinn a compiler?
- 40:08Speaker 5: I didn't say a compiler of singles. I said the
- 40:12Speaker 5: word compiler, but I didn't. I didn't say it about Tony.
- 40:14Speaker 4: Gwinn when was more pesky than Melotts.
- 40:17Speaker 7: He was.
- 40:19Speaker 5: Nobody can give you one single, no RBIs and no
- 40:21Speaker 5: runs scored like Tony Gwinn.
- 40:23Speaker 3: Fundamentals.
- 40:26Speaker 4: All right, Uh, where do we leave off sixty four?
- 40:30Speaker 5: Yep?
- 40:31Speaker 1: All right, we'll get back to We're never going to
- 40:33Speaker 1: get through this list. We'll talk to you guys tomorrow
