- 0:01SPEAKER_00: Kate Dreston here.
- 0:03SPEAKER_00: Don't you just love to see a baby resting on their mom's chest and then they fall asleep?
- 0:08SPEAKER_00: Oh, it looks so peaceful.
- 0:11SPEAKER_00: The Bible says we can have peace like that.
- 0:13SPEAKER_00: How do we get some of that peace?
- 0:16SPEAKER_00: In this five-minute episode,
- 0:17SPEAKER_00: I'm going to give you the four things that Psalms 131 tells us about finding
- 0:21SPEAKER_00: that rest in God, so stay tuned.
- 0:25SPEAKER_00: Hi, guys.
- 0:26SPEAKER_00: I have all these babies in my family, and I love to see the sweet pictures of them sleeping.
- 0:32SPEAKER_00: There is nothing more peaceful than a child resting as they don't have a care in the world.
- 0:39SPEAKER_00: They put all their trust in the one that's holding them.
- 0:42SPEAKER_00: And if you're like me, you want that kind of peace.
- 0:45SPEAKER_00: Well, good news.
- 0:47SPEAKER_00: Psalms 131 is a short chapter.
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: It only has three verses.
- 0:51SPEAKER_00: But boy, does it pack a lot in those words.
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: It tells us how we can get that feeling of resting in God.
- 0:58SPEAKER_00: So let's take a look at number one.
- 1:00SPEAKER_00: Approach God with a humble heart.
- 1:03SPEAKER_00: The first part of verse 1 in that chapter says,
- 1:05SPEAKER_00: "Lord, my heart is not haughty, nor my eyes lofty."
- 1:10SPEAKER_00: It's telling us that when our hearts are humble, we realize how tiny we are and how big God is.
- 1:18SPEAKER_00: Sometimes pride can push us into thinking that we're just fine being dependent
- 1:23SPEAKER_00: upon ourselves, but that's usually where we get into trouble.
- 1:27SPEAKER_00: We don't have a lot of control over things,
- 1:29SPEAKER_00: but we know the One who does, and that makes all the difference.
- 1:34SPEAKER_00: The next thing we need to do in order to rest in God is number two.
- 1:38SPEAKER_00: Stop trying to fix everything.
- 1:42SPEAKER_00: The second half of verse one says,
- 1:44SPEAKER_00: "Neither do I concern myself with great matters, nor with things too profound for me."
- 1:50SPEAKER_00: We need to stay in our lane and remember that every day there will be problems
- 1:54SPEAKER_00: that are too big for us to solve or understand.
- 1:58SPEAKER_00: We shouldn't waste our efforts on burdens that aren't ours to bear.
- 2:02SPEAKER_00: We can't solve much, but we can give them to the One who can.
- 2:06SPEAKER_00: So we need to trust God's timing,
- 2:08SPEAKER_00: accept our limitations, and stop the constant fight for control.
- 2:13SPEAKER_00: So that heavy weight you're carrying from that relationship,
- 2:16SPEAKER_00: or maybe it's from a family conflict or financial problem, give it to the Lord.
- 2:22SPEAKER_00: By doing that, we take a step forward in finding that peace.
- 2:27SPEAKER_00: The next thing it says to do to find rest in God is number three.
- 2:31SPEAKER_00: Be like a child.
- 2:33SPEAKER_00: The first part of verse two says,
- 2:35SPEAKER_00: "Surely I have calmed and quieted my soul like a weaned child with his mother."
- 2:40SPEAKER_00: If we're to be like a child, we need to be calm and secure in Christ.
- 2:45SPEAKER_00: When a child is resting near their mom,
- 2:47SPEAKER_00: they aren't desperately seeking solutions to every problem.
- 2:51SPEAKER_00: They're trusting their mom for all their needs.
- 2:54SPEAKER_00: Their minds aren't spinning and they're relaxed because they know their mom is going
- 2:59SPEAKER_00: to take care of everything for them.
- 3:01SPEAKER_00: And we need to be like that with the Lord.
- 3:04SPEAKER_00: And lastly, this chapter wraps it up with number four.
- 3:08SPEAKER_00: Keep hope in your heart.
- 3:11SPEAKER_00: Verse three says, "O Israel, hope in the Lord from this time forth and forever."
- 3:17SPEAKER_00: This psalm closes with a commitment to hope in God forever.
- 3:23SPEAKER_00: Hope is necessary for us to get through life.
- 3:26SPEAKER_00: You won't make it very far without it.
- 3:28SPEAKER_00: And isn't it wonderful that God offers all the hope we could ever want?
- 3:33SPEAKER_00: So as we wrap it up today, let go of the worry over the things that are beyond your control.
- 3:40SPEAKER_00: Place them in God's hands because I'm going to be doing the same.
- 3:44SPEAKER_00: Make it a great day.
- 3:46SPEAKER_00: And thanks for listening.
