- 0:08Speaker 2: Boutleg cav Podcast Special guests in here my guy formerly
- 0:12Speaker 2: known this problem Jason.
- 0:13Speaker 1: Martin, what's going on?
- 0:15Speaker 2: What made you go by the government? Man? I mean
- 0:18Speaker 2: it was a couple of years.
- 0:20Speaker 1: I'm not.
- 0:21Speaker 2: I just I've been.
- 0:22Speaker 1: Wanting to do it. I've didn't wanting to do it
- 0:23Speaker 1: since like twenty sixteen. Somebody talked me out of it.
- 0:26Speaker 1: But to Change actually had a conversation with him a
- 0:29Speaker 1: while ago. It was just like, Bro, you the same talent,
- 0:32Speaker 1: the name Change is not gonna do anything. Just go
- 0:35Speaker 1: and just for me at this stage of the game,
- 0:38Speaker 1: my age, my situation personally, I just I feel like
- 0:41Speaker 1: it's irresponsible to call myself problem.
- 0:43Speaker 2: We have coffee, come on, Compton coffee, that is yes,
- 0:46Speaker 2: the Compton Coffee, coffee and cush. You brought me a
- 0:49Speaker 2: mug that I can get high out of. Come on, man,
- 0:51Speaker 2: which is nice.
- 0:53Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, man. Shout out to Snoop brother. I love
- 0:56Speaker 1: that song you did with Snoop and with Freddy Oh yeah,
- 0:58Speaker 1: don't be mad at me remakes. It was dope to
- 1:00Speaker 1: hear Freddy in that bag like a lot of people
- 1:02Speaker 1: think he can't get in the up tempo party bag.
- 1:05Speaker 1: Like if you go look, Freddy was on the first
- 1:07Speaker 1: Molly I say he was on.
- 1:08Speaker 2: Some records like that for sure, Like I had a
- 1:09Speaker 2: record that he did with Fuck. I can't think of
- 1:13Speaker 2: his name right now. Who's the guy from the Bay
- 1:16Speaker 2: Clat Carson.
- 1:16Speaker 1: Yeah, he's super bro. Freddie's one of the I don't,
- 1:19Speaker 1: I wouldn't. I can't call him underrated anymore. He's one
- 1:22Speaker 1: of the He's one of the ones, and everybody know
- 1:23Speaker 1: it too.
- 1:24Speaker 2: Love Freddy Man. So for you, are you more focused
- 1:28Speaker 2: on music now or are your entrepreneurial endeavors?
- 1:32Speaker 1: And today? Right now music and right now I'm pushing
- 1:37Speaker 1: this project that's getting ready to come out May twelve. Okay,
- 1:40Speaker 1: I'm gonna be announcent on my birthday. So that's my
- 1:43Speaker 1: focus right now. But that's why I haven't been as
- 1:46Speaker 1: president music, because I've been establishing these situations, making sure
- 1:51Speaker 1: the foundation is there, the team structures there, and honestly,
- 1:54Speaker 1: just for other rappers and shut out here, there's no
- 1:56Speaker 1: point of getting as big as I got and not
- 1:58Speaker 1: having anything to sell, right, not having anything to put
- 2:01Speaker 1: your name on that you own, so I want to
- 2:03Speaker 1: make sure before I dropped this next better music, all
- 2:06Speaker 1: this was establishment.
- 2:07Speaker 2: Are you still rocking Diamond Lane?
- 2:09Speaker 1: Diamond Line is forever, But I definitely started a new
- 2:11Speaker 1: company called fifty Million. But I'm still a partner in
- 2:14Speaker 1: Diamond Line. Shot there playing games. We definitely still get
- 2:17Speaker 1: money together.
- 2:18Speaker 2: What's up with bad Luck Man?
- 2:20Speaker 1: Good Luck? My brother, good luck Man? He found the
- 2:24Speaker 1: lord and I'm happy for him. You know, I've never
- 2:26Speaker 1: seen him so happy.
- 2:27Speaker 2: There was that song he had that had like was
- 2:29Speaker 2: it the biggie sample on the hook? I got a
- 2:31Speaker 2: bit of yeah.
- 2:32Speaker 1: And you know what's funny, he hated that that song
- 2:35Speaker 1: took off because he's such an MC like you know,
- 2:38Speaker 1: he bad Luck is bad Luck was everybody's favorite, your
- 2:42Speaker 1: favorite favorite for sure, So for him it bothered him
- 2:47Speaker 1: that he was known for that record. But that's crazy
- 2:50Speaker 1: in the club though, songs still go crazy. But you know,
- 2:52Speaker 1: it was the time we was having a good time.
- 2:54Speaker 2: You are kind of like one of the forefathers, godfathers
- 2:58Speaker 2: of the ratchet movement in l A. I think the
- 3:00Speaker 2: songs like Dick Too Big and.
- 3:02Speaker 1: Like just called D two B two D two B.
- 3:08Speaker 2: It is D two B y y, Yes, it's not
- 3:09Speaker 2: Dick too big, it's Dick too bad, Dick too bomb.
- 3:13Speaker 2: Isn't it Dick too big? Dick too bombs?
- 3:15Speaker 1: But this is wold But that song is D two
- 3:17Speaker 1: B though, yeah, D two B. But it depends on who.
- 3:21Speaker 2: I don't know why I thought it was like Dick
- 3:23Speaker 2: too big, Dick too.
- 3:24Speaker 1: Maybe that was a wishful thinking on your part. I
- 3:26Speaker 1: don't know.
- 3:28Speaker 2: I play it on the.
- 3:32Speaker 1: Nah that record. That record licenses very well. Shout out
- 3:35Speaker 1: to East Ray and all the other people.
- 3:36Speaker 2: That fucking classic man, you got a lot of those,
- 3:40Speaker 2: Like you got a lot of just like club classics,
- 3:43Speaker 2: especially if you you know, or in Vegas or Phoenix
- 3:46Speaker 2: or l A or Bay, Like you just got just
- 3:49Speaker 2: a barrage outside of you know, uh, you know, you're
- 3:53Speaker 2: you're super smash. I just feel like you got a
- 3:54Speaker 2: lot of dope, dope records, and I feel like you
- 3:56Speaker 2: kind of. I feel like it's like you. And at
- 3:58Speaker 2: that time it was like why and you guys kind
- 4:01Speaker 2: of were doing all the club ship Then HBK up
- 4:05Speaker 2: top Yeah, yeah, HBK gang that. Then the rack city
- 4:08Speaker 2: started to happen.
- 4:09Speaker 1: But like each member like from our selective crew just
- 4:12Speaker 1: started branching out, Like from YG you branched out to
- 4:15Speaker 1: Tie and must and then they all start RJ and HBK.
- 4:19Speaker 1: You had p Low and getting cleary. You know what
- 4:23Speaker 1: I'm saying. It became this real thing. And from my
- 4:25Speaker 1: side of you know, League of Stars and Bad Luck
- 4:27Speaker 1: and just other stuff we were doing.
- 4:29Speaker 2: Yeah, League of Stars was like I just had a
- 4:31Speaker 2: couple of those guys on with g Perica and we're
- 4:33Speaker 2: just talking about like there was that era where like
- 4:36Speaker 2: they were producing so much shit and like some people
- 4:39Speaker 2: thought it was Mustard.
- 4:41Speaker 1: All that that they actually had a real conflict. I
- 4:44Speaker 1: mean that that thing was a real thing because honestly,
- 4:49Speaker 1: everybody all was hanging and everybody was together, So it
- 4:51Speaker 1: wasn't what it was this person sound or this person's sound.
- 4:54Speaker 1: We were kind of all in the studio together. It's
- 4:56Speaker 1: just when Mustard hit, he hits so big that of
- 4:58Speaker 1: course the first person that gets got it. That's what
- 5:01Speaker 1: that's what it's known for. But we were all collaborating
- 5:03Speaker 1: a lot back in them time.
- 5:05Speaker 2: You did you and why do you.
- 5:06Speaker 1: Have a little A little we had a little thing.
- 5:09Speaker 1: We had a small riff that turned into a big nothing,
- 5:13Speaker 1: but we actually which was crazy. I was just in
- 5:15Speaker 1: Joey's the other night. I mean, yeah, I'm out there
- 5:18Speaker 1: doing my thing, and then uh, the gentleman walks up
- 5:21Speaker 1: to me with a ski mask off. So you know,
- 5:24Speaker 1: I'm just like, what's going on? I don't know who
- 5:25Speaker 1: it is? You pull up, like, what's up?
- 5:27Speaker 2: Dog.
- 5:28Speaker 1: That's probably the first time we actually talked talked in years.
- 5:31Speaker 1: A lot of the stuff that was going on with
- 5:33Speaker 1: us was through a lot of other people. We hadn't
- 5:35Speaker 1: had our conversation. So for us, I just like, how
- 5:38Speaker 1: you doing, and we started together. We had a good,
- 5:40Speaker 1: really good conversation. It felt like it I could see
- 5:43Speaker 1: in his face, at least in mind. It felt like
- 5:45Speaker 1: some actual closure was there with everybody thinking we're in
- 5:49Speaker 1: these big old things like me and him did an
- 5:50Speaker 1: interview with tax Stone at Dre Studio in the height
- 5:55Speaker 1: of our quote unquote beef. So it was never that.
- 5:57Speaker 1: It was just more so like we both wanted to
- 5:59Speaker 1: be the man and we needed some edge and and
- 6:02Speaker 1: and it kind of just spawned some ship.
- 6:04Speaker 2: What what was was that kind of like the origins
- 6:07Speaker 2: of that situation where you guys were both kind of
- 6:09Speaker 2: like the it guys in La make a similar tempo records.
- 6:12Speaker 2: You guys go through the ratchet.
- 6:13Speaker 1: I don't know. I think it really had. It had
- 6:16Speaker 1: more to do with our circles having incidents and then
- 6:19Speaker 1: us being ahead of our face, not.
- 6:20Speaker 2: Here the face of our circles.
- 6:23Speaker 1: Uh. It became me versus him, and in actuality again,
- 6:28Speaker 1: we didn't even talk during it. It was just well ship,
- 6:31Speaker 1: well fuck it, this is what we're on, you know
- 6:33Speaker 1: what I mean. And then we use that to fuel
- 6:36Speaker 1: to become to the biggest guys from here.
- 6:39Speaker 2: Yeah, for sure, It's like it was like a not
- 6:41Speaker 2: so friendly competition, right.
- 6:44Speaker 1: But I will say and I'll always say this anytime
- 6:47Speaker 1: anybody asked me, anytime there was business to handle, we
- 6:50Speaker 1: had shows, anything, it was like the business together, Na
- 6:53Speaker 1: bro Compton, gonna get the money.
- 6:55Speaker 2: We're gonna go from Compton.
- 6:56Speaker 1: Totally. And we both started at the same time, are
- 7:00Speaker 1: together and we and we and I'm glad we talked.
- 7:02Speaker 2: You had a I don't know if you guys both
- 7:04Speaker 2: started at the same time because you had you had
- 7:06Speaker 2: a I feel like when I was an intern, I
- 7:11Speaker 2: went to a mixer meeting with you in Phoenix when
- 7:14Speaker 2: I was like eighteen or nineteen. Oh no, I Toe
- 7:17Speaker 2: Up record, oh Na, yeah, yeah, that was like oh nine.
- 7:19Speaker 1: Yeah, but see they were tearing it up around nine
- 7:22Speaker 1: in twenty ten.
- 7:23Speaker 2: Now that's yeah because I because then I remember fast
- 7:26Speaker 2: forward because I think Budah started to really crack like
- 7:28Speaker 2: twenty ten. So yeah, you're right, yeah right in Tie.
- 7:30Speaker 1: I've known Tie when I've known Tie before I was
- 7:33Speaker 1: rapping crazy. He actually put us together.
- 7:36Speaker 2: So that's wild man. Yo. I think back to that
- 7:39Speaker 2: era and I remember like when you caught like what
- 7:42Speaker 2: and it was like just everywhere and every label was
- 7:46Speaker 2: barking down your throat. You never because you had came
- 7:50Speaker 2: from a major label situation when you were on when
- 7:52Speaker 2: you did.
- 7:52Speaker 1: On Toe Up right, Yeah, I did it like a
- 7:54Speaker 1: two single deal with Republic.
- 7:56Speaker 2: Did you ever regret not signing a major record deal
- 8:02Speaker 2: at that moment because you kind of passed on I'm
- 8:04Speaker 2: sure every situation possible at that time.
- 8:07Speaker 1: Well, just to be perfectly honest with you, that wasn't
- 8:09Speaker 1: my decision to make at the time. I wasn't handling
- 8:11Speaker 1: the business for Diamond Lane. But I'm not gonna go
- 8:15Speaker 1: against the leadership of the person that got me to
- 8:20Speaker 1: what people to even give me a deal. So it
- 8:23Speaker 1: was a due decision to do it a certain way.
- 8:25Speaker 1: And it was times where I won't sit here and
- 8:28Speaker 1: lie to you. It was times like damn, we should
- 8:30Speaker 1: have did that D D D. But sitting here present
- 8:32Speaker 1: today and looking at the situation and looking at everybody,
- 8:35Speaker 1: where everybody is and where they're at and ownership and
- 8:38Speaker 1: where they're at with the records and what they can
- 8:39Speaker 1: do and with the we made the best decision possible because,
- 8:43Speaker 1: like I said, our license very well and it's not
- 8:46Speaker 1: a lot of signatures, you get what I'm saying. Sure,
- 8:49Speaker 1: maintaining ownership of those records was very important.
- 8:52Speaker 2: Yeah, who was somebody was there? Because I think back
- 8:57Speaker 2: to the time, like what was going crazy? And this
- 8:58Speaker 2: was kind of like peak, Like I feel like there
- 9:01Speaker 2: was some rapper crews like MMG was signing fools, Like
- 9:05Speaker 2: did you have any of those like situations that like
- 9:08Speaker 2: where somebody tried to bring you into the click like, uh,
- 9:11Speaker 2: you know why she ended up with C T. E.
- 9:13Speaker 1: Tr Uh. Definitely we were we were going real strong together.
- 9:18Speaker 2: Just grand hustle.
- 9:19Speaker 1: Yeah, grand hustle for sure. They probably came the hardest
- 9:23Speaker 1: as far as a crew. But everybody, every everybody's trying
- 9:26Speaker 1: to every everybody reached out. But how you you can't
- 9:32Speaker 1: sign me like that? Ain't If anything, you can come
- 9:35Speaker 1: be with my crew. And that's the way I was
- 9:36Speaker 1: looking at it back then, because we were a self
- 9:39Speaker 1: contained unit. The reason why diamondand was even invented was
- 9:43Speaker 1: because I didn't like the way the system was ran, right,
- 9:46Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. And again, money is always cool,
- 9:49Speaker 1: but we were blessed to come in with a little
- 9:51Speaker 1: financial success so we can pay for certain things and
- 9:54Speaker 1: do certain things a little different.
- 9:55Speaker 2: You guys are running it up.
- 9:56Speaker 1: Yeah, we had a good time, you guys.
- 9:59Speaker 2: Gigs all the Yeah, some random ass Vegas show I
- 10:02Speaker 2: remember going to like that was way off the strip.
- 10:06Speaker 2: I forget where men.
- 10:07Speaker 1: Oh yeah, he was gonna grab him bags, for sure,
- 10:09Speaker 1: he's gonna grab him back.
- 10:10Speaker 2: Yo. For people who don't know I met, I met
- 10:13Speaker 2: Pun through you. Yeah. So back in the day, Pun
- 10:16Speaker 2: was your manager. What's it like to see Pun become
- 10:19Speaker 2: a podcaster?
- 10:20Speaker 1: I love it.
- 10:21Speaker 2: He's always been a ridiculously hilarious, ridiculous guy.
- 10:25Speaker 1: I think God put him right where he's supposed to be.
- 10:28Speaker 1: He's always been that person, for sure, He's always He's
- 10:32Speaker 1: the reason those parties that he were throwing. He was
- 10:35Speaker 1: throwing was the reason for all of those class records
- 10:37Speaker 1: I did. They were all thrown with some pun party
- 10:40Speaker 1: from the potion parties we used to throw to him,
- 10:43Speaker 1: just like here we got turned my fuck up. His
- 10:46Speaker 1: energy has always been that, so it's perfect. It's great
- 10:50Speaker 1: to see. I love seeing what he's doing. I love
- 10:51Speaker 1: seeing what ad he's doing. Trail is the biggest surprise though,
- 10:54Speaker 1: right Like I didn't see that one coming, and he's
- 10:57Speaker 1: probably one of the best at what he's done. Yeah,
- 10:59Speaker 1: I loved you because he doesn't operate in fear right
- 11:03Speaker 1: when he talks to you and has a question for you,
- 11:05Speaker 1: and he doesn't mind looking like, Okay, I was wrong
- 11:08Speaker 1: on that.
- 11:09Speaker 2: No, he's really he's got a lot of hagility and.
- 11:12Speaker 1: He's a real one though, so he's ready to back
- 11:14Speaker 1: up anything you bring his way. So that to me,
- 11:16Speaker 1: I called like that was. That was the only interview
- 11:18Speaker 1: I did for No Jumper was with him. I told
- 11:20Speaker 1: him I don't even want to go up there just
- 11:22Speaker 1: because I just saw something. But with Trail, I'm like,
- 11:26Speaker 1: bro I gotta come up there and.
- 11:27Speaker 2: This fuck with you because I feel like a lot
- 11:28Speaker 2: of guys went up there just to talk to t
- 11:30Speaker 2: railer Ad.
- 11:31Speaker 1: Yeah, trail Man, and this is no slight to that
- 11:34Speaker 1: whole system. I just saw something. I didn't understand it, right.
- 11:39Speaker 1: I didn't understand what was going on up there too much.
- 11:41Speaker 1: And I don't really even really do anything. I call
- 11:44Speaker 1: the people I want to do anything. I get you. Yeah,
- 11:46Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. I'm not really into just
- 11:49Speaker 1: talking to everybody.
- 11:51Speaker 2: How do you feel about where like LA hip hop
- 11:54Speaker 2: is in twenty twenty three.
- 11:56Speaker 1: It's like it's in a funny place when you ask me,
- 12:02Speaker 1: it's in a place where people are afraid to try
- 12:04Speaker 1: something new. And when I say try something new, that
- 12:08Speaker 1: doesn't mean like go fucking do dance music. I'm saying
- 12:12Speaker 1: like taking what we do and what we're known for,
- 12:15Speaker 1: the funk, the instrumentation, the tempo, and just trying new sounds.
- 12:20Speaker 1: Like I'm not saying become a jazz musician. I'm not
- 12:24Speaker 1: saying become an DM star. But there's a there's a
- 12:28Speaker 1: there's a people we're a fright to take risks right,
- 12:31Speaker 1: And it's also really really tough. And this is being
- 12:33Speaker 1: in the Devil's advocate. It's tough to make music as
- 12:37Speaker 1: a California artist because you're down. If you do, you
- 12:40Speaker 1: down if you don't, if you don't make music, that's
- 12:42Speaker 1: could be hard to get buzzing here. And you don't
- 12:44Speaker 1: sound like here, they don't fuck with you here. But
- 12:46Speaker 1: if you sound like here, you get no burn nowhere
- 12:48Speaker 1: else less.
- 12:50Speaker 2: I just had a conversation with Ojiz about that right
- 12:52Speaker 2: before you got here. You know, we're talking about that.
- 12:54Speaker 2: I'm like, you've done a really good job of like
- 12:57Speaker 2: somehow not being regional, like he's so shows in Toronto,
- 13:01Speaker 2: He's got a forty day tour coming, and I'm like,
- 13:02Speaker 2: you one of the few guys who has done a
- 13:05Speaker 2: really good job of And I think a lot of
- 13:07Speaker 2: it has to do with like networking outside of LA
- 13:09Speaker 2: like Kaylen did a good job of that. Like I
- 13:11Speaker 2: think when Kaylen was coming up people to Atlanta for
- 13:13Speaker 2: like a year, you know what I mean.
- 13:14Speaker 1: But oh Jesus, just oh Jesus, a cool, just guy
- 13:17Speaker 1: if you just see him. And I think, honestly, bro,
- 13:19Speaker 1: being Latin doesn't hurt you know what I'm saying That
- 13:22Speaker 1: doesn't hurt with that, you know, I'm more so speaking
- 13:25Speaker 1: about like the black artists. It's tough. We don't get
- 13:28Speaker 1: as much leeway as everybody else. Your pigeonhole in a sense,
- 13:34Speaker 1: Like even our first five minutes of conversation is talking
- 13:37Speaker 1: about the ratchet turn up. So for me to even
- 13:40Speaker 1: be making this left I'm hitting it's tough for people
- 13:43Speaker 1: to fuck with. Like wait a minute, but it's like
- 13:45Speaker 1: my thing is, I don't drive the same car that
- 13:47Speaker 1: I was in twelve years ago, so I'm damn sure
- 13:49Speaker 1: not gonna make the same music for sure. But I
- 13:52Speaker 1: think that's the moniker that we need to take on
- 13:54Speaker 1: as a culture. I think there's some things that are
- 13:57Speaker 1: working that I like, but something gotta change.
- 14:00Speaker 2: This is the way I look at it, right, And
- 14:02Speaker 2: I just talked to my boy, you know, Sallas, Yeah
- 14:05Speaker 2: Head's manager. Yeah yeah. So me and Salas were talking
- 14:08Speaker 2: about this yesterday and I was like, think about I mean,
- 14:12Speaker 2: I'll say the three the three biggest artists to come
- 14:14Speaker 2: out of LA in the last twenty years. Now, I'll
- 14:17Speaker 2: say fifteen or ten to fifteen, because I'm not gonna
- 14:19Speaker 2: include Game in that. So let's say the last decade,
- 14:22Speaker 2: It's Tyler the Creator, It's Kendrick Lamar, and it's Roddy Rich.
- 14:26Speaker 2: All three of them have something similar in common as
- 14:28Speaker 2: they all three do a really good job of not
- 14:33Speaker 2: doing what's expected from a Cali artists. Not to say that,
- 14:36Speaker 2: like you won't hear Roddy on some some shit that,
- 14:39Speaker 2: you know what I mean, But I feel like that
- 14:40Speaker 2: they're very good at just like pushing the boundaries of
- 14:43Speaker 2: like creating without like that. I guess that that you know,
- 14:48Speaker 2: I gotta do this for what I think is gonna come.
- 14:50Speaker 2: Like I mean, Kendrick is obviously probably top five all
- 14:53Speaker 2: time if you ask me.
- 14:54Speaker 1: I think, I think, but I think I think those
- 14:56Speaker 1: are great names and what's your what you're really missing
- 15:00Speaker 1: with those big budgets. And that's not to take anything
- 15:04Speaker 1: away from it, but it's tough for you to tell
- 15:06Speaker 1: and new up and coming artists that they have to
- 15:08Speaker 1: compete with that budget that those three people get.
- 15:11Speaker 2: But I think Odd Future came into the game doing
- 15:14Speaker 2: some wild shit.
- 15:15Speaker 1: No, if you can find on record me saying Kendrick Lamar,
- 15:19Speaker 1: uh tired out, I mean, excuse me, tired of the creator?
- 15:22Speaker 1: Dooja Cat Billie Eilish like those from La. Yes, she's
- 15:26Speaker 1: from La. Billy Olish is from La. Like we have
- 15:30Speaker 1: some of the biggest things in music, Anderson Pot like
- 15:32Speaker 1: we're not a lot of things. But the beauty of
- 15:37Speaker 1: it is that when you got that kind of budget,
- 15:40Speaker 1: you know that a million to five hundred dollars, a
- 15:42Speaker 1: million dollars is about to go into what you're about
- 15:43Speaker 1: to do. You're a little more free with your music.
- 15:46Speaker 1: You're a lot more free with your music. And it's
- 15:48Speaker 1: not to take away from it. They earn that, but
- 15:51Speaker 1: it's not fair to tell somebody who has to pay
- 15:54Speaker 1: for his own videos, his own clothes, have his own
- 15:57Speaker 1: runner book, his own studio time, pay their own bills,
- 15:59Speaker 1: pay their own bi at the same time, and you're
- 16:01Speaker 1: comparing them to those monsters.
- 16:04Speaker 2: I just think that like if you're if you are
- 16:06Speaker 2: coming up and you can say okay, ship, maybe if
- 16:08Speaker 2: I start to because a lot of these guys do
- 16:10Speaker 2: have followings.
- 16:11Speaker 1: Now don't have great followers, because that's just why they're
- 16:13Speaker 1: able to make the money they are. But just imagine
- 16:16Speaker 1: they're following with a five hundred thousand dollars. But something
- 16:19Speaker 1: could be onsane out.
- 16:20Speaker 2: Here for some yes, I yeah.
- 16:24Speaker 1: I mean that's anything though.
- 16:26Speaker 2: But also we're talking about like generationally talented people when
- 16:29Speaker 2: we talk about Kendrick lamar Bro, he's the goal, That's
- 16:31Speaker 2: what I mean.
- 16:32Speaker 1: So it's like, what do we like Listen, that's like
- 16:34Speaker 1: an extreme I don't even I kind of leave those
- 16:38Speaker 1: I leave those two out of a lot of conversations.
- 16:41Speaker 1: Kendrick could talk. You just push them over there.
- 16:43Speaker 2: That's like that because they're like, they're like generational creatives.
- 16:49Speaker 1: There what happens when amazing skill, amazing talent, hard work,
- 16:53Speaker 1: and somebody that believes financially and spiritually all happened at
- 16:58Speaker 1: one time. But that not really that's not typical in
- 17:03Speaker 1: any genre of music. And that's the thing that's the
- 17:06Speaker 1: gift in the KURSI will be in from LA. I
- 17:08Speaker 1: think a lot of people. I think a lot of
- 17:10Speaker 1: people have the potential to do that, but they have
- 17:13Speaker 1: to understand why they're not so they can keep going.
- 17:15Speaker 1: A lot of people get caught up in this shit
- 17:17Speaker 1: of trying to compete.
- 17:18Speaker 2: And it's just like you're not well, let me ask
- 17:19Speaker 2: you this, right, because there was an era in music
- 17:22Speaker 2: when the LA sound was literally hip hop sound, and
- 17:28Speaker 2: that was when Lega Stars were producing for guys like, uh,
- 17:32Speaker 2: did Lega Stars do? Did they do rip?
- 17:36Speaker 1: No?
- 17:36Speaker 2: Must okay, okay, they did something.
- 17:39Speaker 1: I'm trying to think of one of the did Tiger
- 17:40Speaker 1: faded Faded?
- 17:42Speaker 2: That's what it was. But like I think about that
- 17:45Speaker 2: era right where like there's I'm Different from Two Chains,
- 17:48Speaker 2: there's rip, there's act right from Yogati which Peelo produced.
- 17:52Speaker 2: There's like all these like records that are obviously West
- 17:56Speaker 2: Coast inspired records. Why do you think that run did
- 17:59Speaker 2: not translate? Because think about it, like Atlanta sound is
- 18:03Speaker 2: just the country sound now, right, do you think there's
- 18:07Speaker 2: ever been like a besides that little pocket of time
- 18:10Speaker 2: which was maybe two or three years, there was a
- 18:12Speaker 2: time when hip hop sounded like la.
- 18:16Speaker 1: Of course, uh, late early nineties all the way to
- 18:20Speaker 1: the mid Like you gotta think like there's no there's
- 18:23Speaker 1: no brat Functified if deep Cover doesn't come out.
- 18:26Speaker 2: You're right about that, like Functified with I always used
- 18:29Speaker 2: to be like this just sounds like the female doggy Stock.
- 18:31Speaker 1: Yeah, there's no Like there's there's on record of Bigie
- 18:35Speaker 1: Small saying I'm emulating Snoop Dolls album, Like like at
- 18:39Speaker 1: that time, the break beat, the sub put together with
- 18:42Speaker 1: the sample that was our sound, and then every five
- 18:45Speaker 1: years this shit just kind of shift. I think what
- 18:49Speaker 1: happened in both of those times from when we had
- 18:51Speaker 1: our run with that sound and the OG's had their
- 18:54Speaker 1: run huge radio support, like huge radio support. People don't understand.
- 18:59Speaker 1: That's the second biggest marketing in the United States. So
- 19:01Speaker 1: when people come here and they don't hear what we
- 19:04Speaker 1: sound like, it's tough. It's just really really tough. We
- 19:09Speaker 1: had We had a lot of radio support. I will
- 19:11Speaker 1: say myself. I'll speak for myself.
- 19:13Speaker 2: Yeah, your ship was in power rotation everywhere.
- 19:16Speaker 1: Where, like anywhere, and even to this day, like there's
- 19:18Speaker 1: three to four records that are gonna come on every day,
- 19:20Speaker 1: So that helps a lot, you know what I'm saying.
- 19:24Speaker 1: But when you have to like get a sound hot
- 19:26Speaker 1: without the backing of your radio, and I understand how
- 19:29Speaker 1: radio works, I get it. It's a business, et cetera,
- 19:32Speaker 1: et cetera. But that's why that won't happen. But the
- 19:35Speaker 1: reason why two Change then was riding around out here
- 19:38Speaker 1: and they heard them songs like, oh shit, I want
- 19:39Speaker 1: to get on that. Oh man, Lil Wayne oh drake,
- 19:42Speaker 1: oh man, it's going crazy. I want to get on that.
- 19:44Speaker 1: I'm outside party and that's what's turning on. If you don't,
- 19:47Speaker 1: if you don't click on the rate, you click on
- 19:48Speaker 1: the radio, and you don't hear what the city sounds like.
- 19:50Speaker 1: It's just kind of tough.
- 19:52Speaker 2: So you think radio because again that's a different era, right,
- 19:55Speaker 2: So we're talking thirteen years ago, twelve years ago. When
- 19:59Speaker 2: it was twenty twelve, it was like what twelve, twenty twelve,
- 20:03Speaker 2: So yeah, so it's eleven years ago, but twenty ten
- 20:05Speaker 2: was like twenty ten I think was tooted and boot
- 20:08Speaker 2: it twenty eleven, twenty eleven is hit. But I think that,
- 20:11Speaker 2: like fast forward to today, right, and now radio is
- 20:14Speaker 2: not as important it's and I'm on the radio all
- 20:17Speaker 2: over the country.
- 20:18Speaker 1: I don't I don't think that. I keep hearing that
- 20:20Speaker 1: until I get in somebody's car from out of town
- 20:23Speaker 1: and that's the radio's on. And the thing is this
- 20:25Speaker 1: is not this is a tourist city. Everybody here is
- 20:28Speaker 1: still listening to the radio. They're not coming in here
- 20:30Speaker 1: and turning on streaming services. When they first get to
- 20:32Speaker 1: LA they might turn it on, not like what they
- 20:34Speaker 1: hear and go to their playlist. But these are all
- 20:37Speaker 1: people from out of town. This is a gumbo spot.
- 20:39Speaker 2: So do you still think that, particularly for Cali, it's
- 20:43Speaker 2: imperative that radio heavily supports local I mean, I mean,
- 20:47Speaker 2: then listen, I think that, like you said, we don't
- 20:50Speaker 2: need to dive into the business of radio. No, not
- 20:52Speaker 2: at all.
- 20:53Speaker 1: But I don't think even I'm not even saying local
- 20:55Speaker 1: like I don't. I don't. The thing is, you can't
- 20:58Speaker 1: be local with when you're market is the number two
- 21:01Speaker 1: media market in the world. Somebody can literally go plant
- 21:04Speaker 1: them just in California.
- 21:05Speaker 2: Yeah, they could so.
- 21:07Speaker 1: Imagine the power that radio has here in New York
- 21:11Speaker 1: because there's so many people now I'm not talking about
- 21:14Speaker 1: like Missouri, are somewhere in one of these middle market spots.
- 21:17Speaker 1: It doesn't weigh as heavy, but out here we can
- 21:20Speaker 1: control it because we're not number one, but we're number two.
- 21:23Speaker 2: Right, Yeah, I think that there so like being on
- 21:26Speaker 2: the other side of it, there's been a lot of
- 21:28Speaker 2: records that like, at least are real. We jumped out
- 21:31Speaker 2: on and it's tough.
- 21:33Speaker 1: Me and Doc had a two hour conversation that puff
- 21:35Speaker 1: House about this whole thing.
- 21:36Speaker 2: Yeah, and he broke it all the way down, and
- 21:39Speaker 2: we've like jumped out on records where like me and
- 21:41Speaker 2: like like shout out to amen, Amen, don't add a record,
- 21:43Speaker 2: like all right, litten, Hey let's try this re let listen. Hey,
- 21:46Speaker 2: this record's making some noise. Let's throw it out there
- 21:48Speaker 2: like like an asm a Bobster, you know, which is
- 21:51Speaker 2: obviously a huge record that is big in the club.
- 21:53Speaker 2: It just didn't translate to radio research. So you play
- 21:59Speaker 2: that record and for a lot of people who don't know,
- 22:01Speaker 2: like when you play a song on the radio, you'll
- 22:04Speaker 2: get The way that radio is rated is stupid. There's
- 22:08Speaker 2: these people carrying these fucking pagers that track your real
- 22:11Speaker 2: time listening and then that is how they come up
- 22:14Speaker 2: with your ratings. So if you get into an uber
- 22:17Speaker 2: and you have that pager on you and your Uber
- 22:19Speaker 2: drivers playing fucking k rock, you're a k rock listener, literally,
- 22:23Speaker 2: because it's on whether or not you're into it, it's
- 22:26Speaker 2: still playing. If you walk into a store and they're
- 22:29Speaker 2: playing any rate Power No. Six Real ninety two three,
- 22:33Speaker 2: you might be a fucking old white dude, but you're
- 22:35Speaker 2: a fucking real ninety two three listener. Subconsciously, whether you
- 22:38Speaker 2: like it or not, it's on, you're in there whatever, right,
- 22:40Speaker 2: So they can see when a song comes on. They
- 22:46Speaker 2: call it an m score. So if a song gets
- 22:49Speaker 2: played and the person who is holding that meter changes
- 22:53Speaker 2: the station, let's say they change it after ten seconds,
- 22:56Speaker 2: twenty seconds, whatever, it negatively will impact.
- 22:59Speaker 1: The score of that song, like streaming, Like when they
- 23:01Speaker 1: put on the playlist, your credit score goes up and
- 23:03Speaker 1: down on Yeah, but that's a very dated system. But
- 23:08Speaker 1: again it's but it's the system. It's the system. So
- 23:12Speaker 1: that's why it's important because if that, if you just said,
- 23:16Speaker 1: why it's so important to make sure that something is
- 23:21Speaker 1: heard that sounds like here?
- 23:23Speaker 2: Just so, who do you like from the new new
- 23:25Speaker 2: wave of guys.
- 23:26Speaker 1: I mean I'm biased with a few people just because
- 23:28Speaker 1: you know and things like that, but uh, I love
- 23:30Speaker 1: playing Love Airplane. It's amazing camera very smoked it too.
- 23:37Speaker 1: I'm really into like some newer newer guys though, like
- 23:40Speaker 1: musicians and like I'm working with this group called the
- 23:42Speaker 1: Melodics right now. They're special. Man, there's so many I
- 23:48Speaker 1: like Wally say my he's amazing, Like you know what
- 23:51Speaker 1: I'm saying. It's it's it's it's so many of them.
- 23:56Speaker 2: I think Wally could be like but could break out
- 23:58Speaker 2: of LA easily.
- 23:59Speaker 1: It's the music, bro, the music, the actual sonics and
- 24:03Speaker 1: sounds at the beat selection that has to change.
- 24:06Speaker 2: I just think like with Wiley, like he's so good
- 24:08Speaker 2: at the melodic ship that it could work anywhere. Like
- 24:10Speaker 2: I think of like Scandalous as a song to me
- 24:12Speaker 2: that like it's crazy, could go anywhere. He's crazy, Like
- 24:15Speaker 2: I know he's signed now, you know, I think he's
- 24:17Speaker 2: on Capital Capital and I'm like, Yo, how do you
- 24:20Speaker 2: guys not fucking press the button on oh three Flow
- 24:22Speaker 2: or fucking I.
- 24:24Speaker 1: Mean, you gotta understand, man, it's like that shun't work anywhere.
- 24:27Speaker 1: It's it's so many. It's like you said, there's so
- 24:30Speaker 1: many pager systems and so many meters and and it's
- 24:33Speaker 1: just like bro, at some point, man, we got to
- 24:35Speaker 1: go back to the feeling.
- 24:36Speaker 2: I hope Grito. I think I saw some sort of
- 24:40Speaker 2: talking that they like might do like a oh three
- 24:42Speaker 2: Flow too, or he might get on an official remix.
- 24:44Speaker 1: I saw that to him.
- 24:45Speaker 2: It might not be too educated on what's going on
- 24:46Speaker 2: with that, but that would be crazy.
- 24:48Speaker 1: Right, right, I think you know. Another thing is too,
- 24:51Speaker 1: is like the ship goes so fast. Now, it was
- 24:53Speaker 1: like what's new and what's what's veteran and what's like
- 24:57Speaker 1: Like Greto to me is you can get to him new,
- 25:00Speaker 1: but he's not. He's he's now this this main state
- 25:04Speaker 1: that represented a real part of chunk of this thing.
- 25:06Speaker 1: So I think that's where we get lost too.
- 25:08Speaker 2: It's like he's not new here. I mean, I just
- 25:10Speaker 2: think me and my boy were just talking about this,
- 25:13Speaker 2: like they had the first him and RJ had the
- 25:15Speaker 2: first versus You're at the no vote. Yeah, they was
- 25:19Speaker 2: going back and forth with each other online, and I
- 25:21Speaker 2: remember like three days later they were all I remember
- 25:25Speaker 2: me and Head were like we're not going. We don't
- 25:29Speaker 2: want no part of that ship. We're like, wait a minute.
- 25:32Speaker 1: It was go for them and all their cruises could
- 25:34Speaker 1: be heads like, have no problems, no problem, right right,
- 25:39Speaker 1: That's what happens. That's what happens when you just go
- 25:41Speaker 1: with the gut and the feeling. Man Like, those two
- 25:43Speaker 1: guys were amazing the way they handled that, and that's
- 25:46Speaker 1: why they were still main stays in the culture. Because
- 25:48Speaker 1: sometimes you gotta have a little balls, you gotta risk it,
- 25:51Speaker 1: and that goes out to everybody that's that's picking what
- 25:53Speaker 1: we're about to listen to. Sometimes you just gotta have
- 25:55Speaker 1: a little balls.
- 25:56Speaker 2: And risk it. You know, yo, what's good man? We
- 25:59Speaker 2: got to stop the interview to tell you about our

- 28:48Speaker 1: cameraman photographers, clothing designers, the things that kind of make
- 28:53Speaker 1: the business go right. As far as an artist, I
- 28:56Speaker 1: won't ever like sign an artists. I'll partner with one.
- 28:59Speaker 1: I don't want like that term you're signed to me,
- 29:02Speaker 1: I have your masters. That ship is a little weird
- 29:05Speaker 1: for me. But I'm more so like getting a group
- 29:09Speaker 1: of creatives together. So if somebody did have an artist,
- 29:11Speaker 1: you can bring them over to fifty million your project. Yeah,
- 29:14Speaker 1: and we need your project done, really really fat.
- 29:16Speaker 2: You need music, videos, you need artwork, merch, you need
- 29:18Speaker 2: whatever you need.
- 29:20Speaker 1: You need studios, you need, you need a stylist, you
- 29:23Speaker 1: need whatever you want. We can make that whole thing happen.
- 29:26Speaker 2: I respect it. What inspired you to get into the
- 29:29Speaker 2: are you? I mean you're a coffee drinker? What mean? Yeah?
- 29:31Speaker 2: This is a big deal. Yeah man, Compton Coffee House blending.
- 29:35Speaker 2: Is it good?
- 29:36Speaker 1: I'll let you be the judge of that. I think
- 29:38Speaker 1: it's amazing.
- 29:38Speaker 2: I got to figure out how my partners are bigsby.
- 29:40Speaker 2: I'm not gonna lie to you. I have a cure egg.
- 29:45Speaker 2: So I'm not even sure how to make this coffee.
- 29:49Speaker 1: Well, I mean I can, I can show you. You
- 29:50Speaker 1: know what I'm saying. You can take No, that's not
- 29:53Speaker 1: being around.
- 29:53Speaker 2: Is this instant coffee?
- 29:54Speaker 1: No it's not. So. What you do is you get
- 29:56Speaker 1: the filter? You know that little filter you just literally
- 29:58Speaker 1: sit it on the top and take hot water and
- 30:00Speaker 1: port it and it'll just seek down. We have a
- 30:02Speaker 1: press in there, coffee press, so I can use that right, Well, yeah,
- 30:05Speaker 1: it's fire.
- 30:05Speaker 2: I gotta try.
- 30:06Speaker 1: But we have cris coming with I love black coffee. Yeah,
- 30:09Speaker 1: that one you can drink straight. It got the chocolate
- 30:10Speaker 1: notes in it. It's it's, it's, it's definitely. I sat
- 30:14Speaker 1: there and actually put that together myself, like I got
- 30:16Speaker 1: to pick the billion of Guatemala and I went through
- 30:18Speaker 1: this whole damnage college course a coffee before we started,
- 30:23Speaker 1: and yeah, man, I'm I'm excited about the start of it.
- 30:26Speaker 1: We're about to enter a lot of different stores coming.
- 30:28Speaker 2: So you ever watch a Kirby Enthusiasm.
- 30:31Speaker 1: I didn't. I've seen the clips song.
- 30:33Speaker 2: Okay, never mind, there's an episode about coffee that's like
- 30:35Speaker 2: that he like goes to like a wherever they have.
- 30:38Speaker 2: I think he goes to Columbia and he like he
- 30:41Speaker 2: like illegally, he illegally imports a bunch of coffee beans.
- 30:44Speaker 2: It's you gotta watch the show. I'm gonna check it
- 30:46Speaker 2: Outan Snoop sampled Kirby Enthusiasm, the theme song on his
- 30:49Speaker 2: last album, Yes, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, yeah, I remember the
- 30:52Speaker 2: greatest ship ever. I was, like, you know, I've met
- 30:55Speaker 2: Snoop a bunch. That is my one interview in my
- 30:58Speaker 2: whole life that I to do. He changed my life
- 31:01Speaker 2: like I got Doggy stat when I was five, change
- 31:03Speaker 2: my whole life. It's like, I can't. I've been fucking
- 31:06Speaker 2: hounding Kevin for like five years. Like, bro, I'll go
- 31:08Speaker 2: to Snoop, go to the compound, whatever you need for me,
- 31:13Speaker 2: I fucking do. I just want to interview Snoop movie.
- 31:16Speaker 1: He's a walking movie. He is a film like and
- 31:19Speaker 1: one of the the biggest heart, one of the biggest
- 31:21Speaker 1: hearts in the game. And he's I'm not I'm not
- 31:23Speaker 1: here without Snoop Dogg. Actually he's he He's helped me
- 31:28Speaker 1: a lot with a bunch of stuff I've gone.
- 31:29Speaker 2: And Snoop is the most I mean, I think he's
- 31:34Speaker 2: somehow as a rapper, he's still underrated somehow when we
- 31:39Speaker 2: talk about like the Greatest of All Time list, I
- 31:41Speaker 2: don't hear his name mentioned enough.
- 31:43Speaker 1: Well, I mean that just all depends on who you're asking,
- 31:45Speaker 1: because I mean, everybody's gonna have their reason for why
- 31:48Speaker 1: somebody's their greatest, and some people will think it's lyricism.
- 31:51Speaker 1: Some people will think his presence lyricism.
- 31:53Speaker 2: Go listen to Dogg.
- 31:56Speaker 1: He's he checks off every category and sometimes, Man, you
- 32:00Speaker 1: just don't like a winner. A lot of people just
- 32:02Speaker 1: don't like people that wins.
- 32:03Speaker 2: I mean, he is the most famous rapper, and he's
- 32:06Speaker 2: one of the most famous people. I was gonna say,
- 32:08Speaker 2: I was about to say that.
- 32:09Speaker 1: He's top five most famous faces on planet Earth. That's
- 32:11Speaker 1: an actual stat I agree. So he's the most famous
- 32:14Speaker 1: rapper ever. Yeah, but he's he's more famous than Eminem Drake.
- 32:18Speaker 2: I don't give a fuck. My grandma knows the Snoop is.
- 32:20Speaker 2: Everybody knows Snoop he is. He's He's like the Shack
- 32:23Speaker 2: of hip hop. Like if you could never have watched
- 32:26Speaker 2: basketball in your fucking life, you know who should kill
- 32:28Speaker 2: an Either you might not. There's people who don't know,
- 32:31Speaker 2: Like they might know Michael Jordan's name, right, but Michael
- 32:35Speaker 2: Jordan ain't in a bunch of commercials right now. Shack
- 32:38Speaker 2: is on TV every day. He's selling general car insurance.
- 32:41Speaker 1: Yeah, he's a Snoopsy movie.
- 32:43Speaker 2: Man, I love Snoop.
- 32:44Speaker 1: You gotta set that up though, Man.
- 32:46Speaker 2: That's my fucking man. That's the one interview. I was
- 32:49Speaker 2: so mad. I went to WrestleMania and they were selling
- 32:51Speaker 2: like the limited edition Snoop Dogg wrestling belts and and
- 32:54Speaker 2: they fucking sold out before I could buy one. Seven
- 32:56Speaker 2: hundred fifty dollars.
- 32:57Speaker 1: To plug you, man, I fucking love Snoop man Doggie Styles,
- 33:00Speaker 1: like I gotta plug y'all.
- 33:01Speaker 2: Man, what do you think it's snoop second best album?
- 33:04Speaker 2: It's his second best album?
- 33:06Speaker 1: What is his second best album? What do I think
- 33:09Speaker 1: it's his second best album?
- 33:11Speaker 2: Because Doggie Styles number one? I'm talking up to you.
- 33:12Speaker 2: What is your second favorite Snoop album?
- 33:15Speaker 1: It's either uh, top Dog, No Limit or Rhythmic Gangster m.
- 33:23Speaker 1: It's one of.
- 33:23Speaker 2: Those two minus top Dog. And then it's the Last Meal.
- 33:29Speaker 1: I like the last last meal.
- 33:31Speaker 2: Last meal was crazy.
- 33:32Speaker 1: His last two no limited offers was insign.
- 33:35Speaker 2: I didn't like the first no limited album.
- 33:36Speaker 1: No. The first one was it was it was it
- 33:38Speaker 1: was getting his feet wet.
- 33:39Speaker 2: It was to me, it was like they were trying
- 33:40Speaker 2: to do the no limit thing too much with Snoop
- 33:42Speaker 2: and it was just like this that top Dog was
- 33:45Speaker 2: the one though, because that's bitch. Please was on there
- 33:47Speaker 2: and it was what man, it was Man, the Mother Hitters.
- 33:50Speaker 1: It was crazy. That record is crazy. That rhythmic Gangsters
- 33:53Speaker 1: though no body saw that beautiful like it was.
- 33:57Speaker 2: Like, yeah, him and Paral caught a fucking way. Even
- 34:01Speaker 2: the Bush album we did with the Neptunes, that was
- 34:04Speaker 2: was actually a little Snoops got man. Shout out to
- 34:07Speaker 2: Snoop bron So, who's so listen, you got a new
- 34:11Speaker 2: album coming. You're announcing it on the eighth. Yeah, well
- 34:15Speaker 2: we'll wait until then to drop this. So what's the
- 34:18Speaker 2: name of the album? Okay, so what's the name of
- 34:21Speaker 2: the album?
- 34:22Speaker 1: I owe myself?
- 34:23Speaker 2: I like that you owe yourself? Okay, what is the why?
- 34:28Speaker 2: I mean, yeah, I think you owe yourself too. You're
- 34:31Speaker 2: fucking legend. Man. You're over here putting coffee on.
- 34:33Speaker 1: We need some rap music, man, Yeah, I feel like
- 34:36Speaker 1: I owe myself this moment, musically, sonically, spiritually, business wise.
- 34:40Speaker 1: I have been a part of helping a lot of people,
- 34:43Speaker 1: for sure. You know, I've assisted a lot of people
- 34:46Speaker 1: in helping them make their dreams come true. And actually
- 34:49Speaker 1: I've done a lot of things that I probably wasn't spearheading.
- 34:54Speaker 1: I was just kind of like following the lead or
- 34:56Speaker 1: assisting somebody else. Uh, this one is like, I'm gonna
- 34:59Speaker 1: do it exactly how I want to do it, from
- 35:02Speaker 1: the people I choose to produce, from who I choose
- 35:04Speaker 1: to mix, to who I choose to shoot videos. I
- 35:07Speaker 1: owe myself this one moment to be as high level
- 35:10Speaker 1: music as I can, so I really dove in deep
- 35:13Speaker 1: on it.
- 35:14Speaker 2: Sonically. What is like the vibe of this.
- 35:18Speaker 1: I'll just tell you what I was listening to on
- 35:20Speaker 1: the Walker studio, Uh, DiAngelo, Brown Sugar, Okay, Thriller, Get Richard,
- 35:29Speaker 1: I Trying Ship and a Cumini. Those were like, those
- 35:34Speaker 1: are the four projects that were on repeat during this
- 35:36Speaker 1: whole process. And then I would like throw in like Graduation,
- 35:40Speaker 1: Kanye out of Nowhere, just random. But yeah, it's in that,
- 35:44Speaker 1: It's in that pocket of things.
- 35:46Speaker 2: Any Chachi moments on this album?
- 35:48Speaker 1: What does that mean?
- 35:49Speaker 2: I feel like I feel like when I think in
- 35:51Speaker 2: D two B, I think I think that's like is
- 35:52Speaker 2: that you're like I feel like that's kind of like
- 35:54Speaker 2: your fucking at your persona?
- 35:57Speaker 1: I mean, you mean where I'm talking sexually towards women,
- 36:00Speaker 1: Is that what you're talking about?
- 36:01Speaker 2: Or just you know some ship that I can do
- 36:03Speaker 2: some Molly too.
- 36:05Speaker 1: I don't know. I mean you got to, I don't,
- 36:06Speaker 1: I mean organized confusion. You can do whatever you like
- 36:09Speaker 1: to do, whenever you want to do it. I've seen
- 36:10Speaker 1: people do Mady of the Jazz. So it's it's all
- 36:13Speaker 1: on how you tend to do, how you do your thing.
- 36:15Speaker 1: I think I touched on a lot of different subjects here,
- 36:19Speaker 1: and I think it'll be some moments that you can
- 36:22Speaker 1: play in your club and you can okay they break
- 36:24Speaker 1: into the Spotify grae grabbing knife. Uh, I'll actually send
- 36:33Speaker 1: you the link and you can check it out.
- 36:35Speaker 2: So let's go back to the Welcome to Mollywood Days.
- 36:40Speaker 2: What is your craziest Uh, give me your because I've
- 36:44Speaker 2: had some pretty wild nights tripping hard. I've never done
- 36:47Speaker 2: Molly in my life, never done and MDMA now they're
- 36:49Speaker 2: using m d m A as uh like literal like
- 36:54Speaker 2: people who have PTSD they do MDMA therapy. Give me
- 36:58Speaker 2: your craziest Molly story, peak problemy World days.
- 37:04Speaker 1: I would never tell you that story here on live
- 37:09Speaker 1: on this show, but I will say one like that
- 37:12Speaker 1: that I can't say that doesn't involve anybody else.
- 37:15Speaker 2: Whatever.
- 37:15Speaker 1: The first time I ever tried it. It was a
- 37:19Speaker 1: long ass car writer. It was Halloween and I was
- 37:22Speaker 1: in the car for two hours and that was the
- 37:24Speaker 1: most enjoyable car ride ever. And it was the next
- 37:28Speaker 1: It was when I figured out I was gonna sample
- 37:31Speaker 1: the master P record.
- 37:33Speaker 2: So you're on Molly. When you figured that out?
- 37:35Speaker 1: When we were me and Luck riding the old ship,
- 37:37Speaker 1: we used to listen to and like, oh this is crazy.
- 37:39Speaker 1: We got to flip this tomorrow. So then the next
- 37:42Speaker 1: morning I went to the studio about ten o'clock, took
- 37:45Speaker 1: a little bit and went sat there chop at the beat,
- 37:49Speaker 1: created the created the song right then the next morning crazy.
- 37:53Speaker 2: Yeah, you're like, dude, when I think of when I
- 37:56Speaker 2: think of Molly, I think a problem.
- 37:57Speaker 1: Well I don't like that. I want you to think
- 37:59Speaker 1: I do. That's why my name is Jason Martinell, because
- 38:02Speaker 1: I don't want you to think we think of a drug.
- 38:04Speaker 1: You think of me.
- 38:05Speaker 2: So that's not about my classic mixtapes. You know.
- 38:09Speaker 1: Like I said, I had a good time, but I
- 38:11Speaker 1: do not want you to repeat. I do not want
- 38:13Speaker 1: you guys to think.
- 38:14Speaker 2: Of I'm glad you weren't doing Molly when Fetnah was out,
- 38:17Speaker 2: I'm glad.
- 38:18Speaker 1: Oh wow, yeah, shit.
- 38:21Speaker 2: At the right time.
- 38:22Speaker 1: Noah, I just I just like I said, man, I
- 38:25Speaker 1: had a good time. I had a good time. Something
- 38:27Speaker 1: crossed me that nobody was really doing at the time,
- 38:29Speaker 1: and I just was talking about my day to day
- 38:31Speaker 1: and when I was on and how I was partying.
- 38:33Speaker 1: I thought I needed a daring, shocking name to get
- 38:35Speaker 1: people to.
- 38:35Speaker 2: Click, because I'm thinking if you came up with the
- 38:38Speaker 2: like what idea, that probably was like a twenty eleven
- 38:42Speaker 2: car ride. No I did that.
- 38:45Speaker 1: No, I did that was on Mady with two.
- 38:47Speaker 2: Okay, so twenty twelve when it came out.
- 38:50Speaker 1: No, like right before I did part one, Okay, So
- 38:52Speaker 1: I had the song, I recorded the song. We put
- 38:55Speaker 1: it on part two.
- 38:57Speaker 2: I'm just trying because did you ever go to the
- 39:00Speaker 2: Bay and like, did they ever like say, hey, dude,
- 39:02Speaker 2: it's not Molly, it's.
- 39:03Speaker 1: This No, but you already know I was already in
- 39:06Speaker 1: the Bay anyway. Heavy mister fab used to have me
- 39:09Speaker 1: coming up there, staying at his house in two thousand
- 39:11Speaker 1: and seven, him is stretched like I've always been in
- 39:14Speaker 1: the Bay. Kick Schneek told me I'm Honorary Oakland. He
- 39:17Speaker 1: said he said, you oakly, I know you've got him,
- 39:19Speaker 1: you ugly niggas. So they didn't have to tell me.
- 39:22Speaker 1: They knew, they knew I wasn't there to bite the culture.
- 39:24Speaker 1: I've always I just talked to you forty today, like
- 39:27Speaker 1: we I'm from California. I don't rep just one.
- 39:30Speaker 2: I like that. Are you gonna pop up at any
- 39:34Speaker 2: one of these games?
- 39:37Speaker 1: I mean, you know the Battle of Cali right, thinking
- 39:39Speaker 1: of going to the game. I guess it'll be tonight
- 39:42Speaker 1: air wise, you know what I'm saying. Yeah, I'm thinking
- 39:44Speaker 1: of I'm thinking of popping in there. I definitely want
- 39:48Speaker 1: to go.
- 39:48Speaker 2: Did you see mister Fabe forty last night? They had
- 39:51Speaker 2: the whole fucking mister fab suit was ridiculous. Yeah, you
- 39:55Speaker 2: know where do you get a suit like that?
- 39:57Speaker 1: Man? They all cut they customed them to if they
- 39:59Speaker 1: only customed and their thing from row. Fodi gonna be
- 40:01Speaker 1: at everything everything, bro, Yeah, he's definitely gonna be there too.
- 40:05Speaker 2: Talk to me because I do feel like, you know,
- 40:08Speaker 2: with the name change, I feel like it's it's obviously
- 40:11Speaker 2: shows an intentional pivot creatively and just kind of like
- 40:16Speaker 2: you said, you know, your problem is a legend Jason Martin,
- 40:20Speaker 2: I feel like you're kind of not You're not starting
- 40:22Speaker 2: for scratch because people who follow you know about it.
- 40:24Speaker 2: You know, people will follow you close to your fans,
- 40:26Speaker 2: they know what's up. Do you feel like this new project,
- 40:30Speaker 2: like you said, you're gonna be kind of a new
- 40:32Speaker 2: artist to like a whole new generation of people that way.
- 40:35Speaker 1: I think that for me that was the point. The
- 40:37Speaker 1: point was to say, this apartment building is doing very
- 40:42Speaker 1: well for me. I still own it, but what's wrong
- 40:45Speaker 1: with having too? You get what I'm saying, Jason Martin
- 40:49Speaker 1: is my name. This is about my family. It's about
- 40:51Speaker 1: my legacy. This is about my children, saying I'm a
- 40:54Speaker 1: Martin my dad like, yeah, this is my son. This
- 40:57Speaker 1: is about bigger than like music, but musically. This explains
- 41:01Speaker 1: the pivot. And I like the fact that I'm a
- 41:03Speaker 1: brand artist. It gives me like realistic goals for what
- 41:06Speaker 1: I'm doing, especially now, like it's been like a fucking
- 41:09Speaker 1: pain in the ass with all the DSP situations and
- 41:12Speaker 1: changing your name and having to tire this name, and
- 41:14Speaker 1: it's like, this is not just a regular name change.
- 41:17Speaker 1: This is a real business thing that had to happen.
- 41:19Speaker 1: And I wasn't really aware of. So I think this
- 41:22Speaker 1: is a good direction forward. Yes, sonically I'm different. Physically,
- 41:26Speaker 1: I'm different. Mentally, I'm different. If you just hear the
- 41:28Speaker 1: way I talk, it's just not the same. My message
- 41:30Speaker 1: is not the same.
- 41:31Speaker 2: So if I want to go listen to like what
- 41:33Speaker 2: on Spotify is it under Jason Martin?
- 41:36Speaker 1: Now it's still under problem.
- 41:37Speaker 2: Okay, so you're but you're starting a whole new profile.
- 41:39Speaker 1: There's a whole new profile right now started.
- 41:42Speaker 2: It's literally starting from scratch.
- 41:43Speaker 1: Yeah, and the and the funny thing is it's crazy
- 41:46Speaker 1: to me, like with us, we just and you know,
- 41:49Speaker 1: we just got announced it's one of the top one
- 41:51Speaker 1: hundred West Coast songs of all time out on the
- 41:53Speaker 1: Stone For that to happen, and then the next day
- 41:56Speaker 1: I leak I actually post my new single frequent. See
- 42:00Speaker 1: we have a whole new frequency for me. It's just crazy.
- 42:03Speaker 1: And you would think it was playing.
- 42:04Speaker 2: Like that and it just wasn't. What do you think
- 42:06Speaker 2: about the list? I'm on it, so I love it,
- 42:09Speaker 2: and you know what, a lot of people are on
- 42:11Speaker 2: it that I'm glad that like, because like I you know,
- 42:14Speaker 2: when Rolling Stone and these big publications do these fucking lists.
- 42:17Speaker 2: They're usually just.
- 42:19Speaker 1: Goofy and there. I think, I think, you know, I
- 42:21Speaker 1: think what we got to understand is this. And I
- 42:24Speaker 1: was talking to Terrris about about this earlier. There's a
- 42:27Speaker 1: lot of lists that I don't see my name on.
- 42:30Speaker 1: There's a lot of situations that I'm not really brought
- 42:32Speaker 1: up in when it comes to who did this in
- 42:34Speaker 1: the last decade and who did what? And I don't complain,
- 42:39Speaker 1: you know, I clap and like and keep going. So
- 42:42Speaker 1: don't start bitching out that you're not on this one.
- 42:44Speaker 1: Whoever that is. It's not. That's not how this works.
- 42:48Speaker 1: These lists are not they're they're they're not setting stone.
- 42:51Speaker 1: These are opinions.
- 42:51Speaker 2: I even drove into the list. I know I've seen.
- 42:53Speaker 1: I've been seeing all type of crazy shit. I've been like, wala, I.
- 42:56Speaker 2: Saw you were on there. I saw Plog made it.
- 42:58Speaker 1: Yeah, I think they think of course with any list,
- 43:02Speaker 1: I saw records of that. I'm like, I didn't even
- 43:03Speaker 1: know that song. So it made me have to go
- 43:05Speaker 1: like diving and listen. I know that there's records that
- 43:08Speaker 1: I think should be on there.
- 43:11Speaker 2: What was your biggest snub you think.
- 43:13Speaker 1: I don't say person, I say song, I think I
- 43:17Speaker 1: think I think that Snoop should have had a lot
- 43:23Speaker 1: more songs. I think for Shopak should have had a
- 43:26Speaker 1: lot more song I think forty should have had a lot,
- 43:28Speaker 1: a lot of more, like more records. Honestly, and again
- 43:32Speaker 1: not just because I'm on.
- 43:33Speaker 2: It, but function birth three, Function wasn't on there.
- 43:37Speaker 1: Function not on there? Forty he got I want to
- 43:41Speaker 1: be saved?
- 43:41Speaker 2: Is uh tell me, Nah, that's not on there.
- 43:45Speaker 1: That's what weird. We were talking about that earlier.
- 43:48Speaker 2: Not on the list. Nah.
- 43:49Speaker 1: I mean it's a lot of records. One number one
- 43:52Speaker 1: is none.
- 43:52Speaker 2: But think that makes sense?
- 43:55Speaker 1: I don't know, man, Like I said, those things are subjective.
- 43:57Speaker 2: I think if you were to make like a realistic list,
- 44:01Speaker 2: they like you would be including so many from the
- 44:04Speaker 2: same artists you right, So I think that they probably
- 44:07Speaker 2: were like hey.
- 44:07Speaker 1: And again like I don't, I don't. I mean, would
- 44:11Speaker 1: I be upset if I wasn't on it?
- 44:13Speaker 2: I mean, we'll never know, Like Gangs to Make the
- 44:16Speaker 2: World Go Around and Gangster Killer, Dope Dealer bow Down
- 44:19Speaker 2: and all that trip should be on it.
- 44:20Speaker 1: We all got personal favorites. I think that did Matt
- 44:23Speaker 1: ten have a solo song on there. He didn't have
- 44:24Speaker 1: a solo I want. I want to say he had
- 44:27Speaker 1: no he had a couple, had one Westie Connection. I
- 44:30Speaker 1: saw some with him west Side Connection, and I saw
- 44:32Speaker 1: one with him and nothing but the caveat here with
- 44:34Speaker 1: Dog Crown.
- 44:35Speaker 2: So I love Backyard Boogie too. But yeah, there's so many.
- 44:37Speaker 1: Like you said, it's all subjective. I think what should
- 44:40Speaker 1: happen is you clapp who's on there, and then you
- 44:42Speaker 1: make your own list.
- 44:43Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying, I don't need to shoot
- 44:45Speaker 2: on the list exactly.
- 44:46Speaker 1: Didn't make it because they don't want me to get
- 44:48Speaker 1: to talk about a lot of these lists.
- 44:49Speaker 2: You can't. If you can never make a list like
- 44:52Speaker 2: that and make everyone happy, that's it's an opinion based
- 44:56Speaker 2: list's objective.
- 44:57Speaker 1: This is what I do want to say. We shipped
- 45:01Speaker 1: on the Grammys, we shipped on Rolling Stone, we ship
- 45:04Speaker 1: on all these publications, but we get mad when they
- 45:07Speaker 1: don't do what we want him to do. It's like,
- 45:09Speaker 1: that's like that makes no sense to me.
- 45:11Speaker 2: If you don't care about it.
- 45:12Speaker 1: I don't need a grammar. I hear all these things.
- 45:14Speaker 1: I don't need this, but then get mad when they
- 45:16Speaker 1: don't include you. I'm I don't understand. That doesn't make
- 45:19Speaker 1: any sense, Like I don't understand where all the air
- 45:21Speaker 1: come from. Because if I don't need something, I don't
- 45:23Speaker 1: give a fuck what is doing right, So I think
- 45:25Speaker 1: we should just stop. We need to stop all this
- 45:28Speaker 1: goddamn complaining out here. I think it's I think it's
- 45:30Speaker 1: beautiful that somebody took time to write about the West
- 45:33Speaker 1: Coast for one for sure, and really just focus on that.
- 45:36Speaker 1: And like, there's gonna be more lists. I'm pretty sure
- 45:39Speaker 1: this list is gonna spawn tons of lists, and all
- 45:41Speaker 1: our streams are gonna go.
- 45:42Speaker 2: There's no way in hell enough DJ Quick songs made
- 45:44Speaker 2: the list either. I don't even know.
- 45:46Speaker 1: It's a night's pretty high good, it's pretty hard. He
- 45:49Speaker 1: got up there, He's pretty odd.
- 45:52Speaker 2: It's two shorts players on there.
- 45:54Speaker 1: Nah, he has getting it blow the whistle is like
- 45:56Speaker 1: a he like Shop ten is getting it on there, though.
- 45:58Speaker 1: I don't know if getting on Jesus, But I like
- 46:01Speaker 1: how they put battle ram on there. Right, It's like
- 46:03Speaker 1: we were here to see the effect of some of
- 46:06Speaker 1: these things.
- 46:07Speaker 2: No, I mean I just saw some of the ship
- 46:08Speaker 2: and I was like, oh ship, They actually put some
- 46:10Speaker 2: ship on there. They're like sixteen.
- 46:12Speaker 1: Good they had they had ninety five infinity? What is it?
- 46:16Speaker 2: Five? Right? Yeah, that's it as it should be top ten.
- 46:20Speaker 1: But guess what the that record wasn't commercially successful record.
- 46:23Speaker 2: It's five. Yeah, I think that's frett, that's top ten.
- 46:26Speaker 1: I'm just saying, I think I think you know, like again,
- 46:31Speaker 1: thank you guys.
- 46:32Speaker 2: Thank Okay, where's Gin and Juice two or three? It's
- 46:34Speaker 2: gotta be top three?
- 46:36Speaker 1: Mm hmm.

- 47:22Speaker 2: is the thing if you really like I mean, yes,
- 47:25Speaker 2: the the New York based publication would have the fuck

- 47:32Speaker 2: can't be higher than Tutor and boot it, but it is.
- 47:34Speaker 1: I'm sure.
- 47:36Speaker 2: You wouldn't put fun Donald Trump higher than Tutor and
- 47:38Speaker 2: Boot it would you Toutor and Boot. It was like
- 47:40Speaker 2: a fucking moment. I did a lot kickoff ties solo
- 47:43Speaker 2: ship for real, like he had an all star and
