- 0:11SPEAKER_00: First of all, fuck you and your little podcast mates.
- 0:15SPEAKER_00: Little LST group.
- 0:18SPEAKER_00: Warm-ups are very important.
- 0:20SPEAKER_00: So you can either dig on that one.
- 0:22SPEAKER_00: Um, but in general, podcasts, I think it's getting better.
- 0:26SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 0:26SPEAKER_00: Enjoying it a little bit more.
- 0:27SPEAKER_00: A little bit more flow, a little bit more rhythm.
- 0:30SPEAKER_00: But fuck you guys.
- 0:32SPEAKER_02: I reckon that's about the tenth time that I've heard that, and it gets funnier every single time I listen to it.
- 0:38SPEAKER_01: What what a start to episode five of this podcast than one of our key listeners sending in an abusive voice note for us.
- 0:47SPEAKER_01: I I really appreciate it.
- 0:49SPEAKER_01: I mean, it's both abusive, it's funny.
- 0:52SPEAKER_01: Um you know, he's he's given criticism, you know.
- 0:56SPEAKER_01: We're starting to find more rhythm in our podcast.
- 0:58SPEAKER_01: Obviously, that means it started shit and it's getting better.
- 1:01SPEAKER_01: I always appreciate that type of stuff.
- 1:02SPEAKER_01: You this is our this is your S C coach, the OR S and C coach, the the Dutch S C coach.
- 1:09SPEAKER_01: What's he saying?
- 1:11SPEAKER_05: Yeah, he he knows I'm not a warm-up fan.
- 1:14SPEAKER_05: Uh, and now I had I have two mates who also are not a warm-up fan.
- 1:19SPEAKER_05: So we're like, I'm building a like a group, a society, and Matt is like completely opposite for him.
- 1:25SPEAKER_05: Warm up is key.
- 1:27SPEAKER_05: Without warm-up, there's no life.
- 1:29SPEAKER_05: So hence uh his uh his voice now.
- 1:33SPEAKER_05: But I like I like it.
- 1:34SPEAKER_05: At least um in Dutch we say he has no uh yeah, he has no leaf in front of his mouth.
- 1:41SPEAKER_05: That's like really not an English saying.
- 1:45SPEAKER_01: What the fuck does that mean?
- 1:46SPEAKER_05: Yeah, he says just he says whatever he wants, and we say a leaf in front of your mouth, which covers your mouth, so we don't and now it he says whatever the fuck he wants.
- 1:55SPEAKER_05: I like it.
- 1:56SPEAKER_01: We've actually got a few.
- 1:57SPEAKER_01: I mean, people have sent in a few voice notes onto Instagram Messenger.
- 2:01SPEAKER_01: I'd actually, I'm I'm a full advocate.
- 2:03SPEAKER_01: If you want to send us a voice note and you think it'll be good enough for us to play on an episode like Matty's was, go for it.
- 2:10SPEAKER_01: We want to hear it.
- 2:11SPEAKER_01: Whatever it is, I feel like the three of us can take it.
- 2:14SPEAKER_01: Well, me and you can.
- 2:17SPEAKER_05: Well, Phil, you you start this off.
- 2:20SPEAKER_05: I just want to say one thing before we start because I really have to get it off my chest.
- 2:24SPEAKER_05: I want to give Brendan some credit, like some genuine, genuine credit.
- 2:31SPEAKER_05: Brendan, you get a lot of shit, and I mean a lot of shit during the podcast, during your life.
- 2:38SPEAKER_05: I'm starting to see this isn't as positive as I thought it'd be.
- 2:40SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it is.
- 2:41SPEAKER_04: Mate, you take you take shit better than anyone I know.
- 2:46SPEAKER_05: You take it on the chin, at least it looks like you get like you can take it.
- 2:51SPEAKER_05: So, mate, I want to give I want to give Brennan a shot because it makes it easier for me to just rip at him, and I like it.
- 2:59SPEAKER_01: I don't know, is this the point that I meant to back that up or not?
- 3:03SPEAKER_02: No, no, let's just move on.
- 3:08SPEAKER_01: Well, if anyone's listened to last week's episode, I I I want to just reiterate how good that was.
- 3:14SPEAKER_01: Flo clearly was an LST listener beforehand because he he he understood the assignment.
- 3:21SPEAKER_01: I think he was an excellent addition.
- 3:23SPEAKER_01: We all absolutely loved having him.
- 3:24SPEAKER_01: Hopefully, you loved listening to him.
- 3:26SPEAKER_01: You know, if you want to hear him back, let us know because we're we're happy to get more.
- 3:31SPEAKER_01: I think we've got more people lined up, but he was unbelievable.
- 3:34SPEAKER_01: So, um, Brendan, especially, you you enjoyed flow on.
- 3:38SPEAKER_02: Yeah, full fangirl over here.
- 3:40SPEAKER_02: Absolutely fine with that.
- 3:41SPEAKER_02: No problems for me.
- 3:44SPEAKER_04: Yeah, he was a bit, he wasn't you felt he was a bit starstruck, yeah.
- 3:47SPEAKER_04: Brendan was a little bit quiet.
- 3:49SPEAKER_02: I just I just wanted to listen to the man speak.
- 3:52SPEAKER_02: Gave the gave the guy time.
- 3:53SPEAKER_02: What is slightly frustrating is it's confirmed that he is a really nice guy.
- 3:57SPEAKER_02: That's that's it's frustrating because I wanted to be like do you mean I wanted that little bit of like ah he's a bit of a knob head, but he's not.
- 4:05SPEAKER_05: He did give you some shit, which it yeah, but that's that's that's just part of the parcel, isn't it?
- 4:11SPEAKER_01: Part and parcel of Brendan's most close and personal relationships are built on giving Brendan shit.
- 4:19SPEAKER_01: But anyway, I mean we are I haven't said it in a couple of weeks.
- 4:23SPEAKER_01: We're brought to you by Y1, the good guys and girls of Y1.
- 4:27SPEAKER_01: Hit them up if you've got any hockey needs or Brendan's new on the ADB hype.
- 4:32SPEAKER_01: Go on.
- 4:33SPEAKER_02: Um I was gonna I was gonna bring up the hot biscuits um comments.
- 4:39SPEAKER_02: So I've had quite a few messages basically saying no, you kept saying warm biscuits over the counter.
- 4:44SPEAKER_02: The phrase is it goes like hot biscuits.
- 4:47SPEAKER_02: That's the phrase that you've basically been trying to hit the hot the last few weeks.
- 4:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no, I thought they were selling like hotcakes.
- 4:54SPEAKER_02: Hotcakes, sorry, yeah, hotcakes.
- 4:55SPEAKER_02: Sorry, my bad.
- 4:57SPEAKER_02: Jesus, I got it wrong as well.
- 4:58SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's like selling like hot cakes.
- 5:00SPEAKER_02: That's the phrase.
- 5:01SPEAKER_02: You that's the English equivalent.
- 5:04SPEAKER_05: Oh, okay, okay.
- 5:05SPEAKER_05: I like it.
- 5:06SPEAKER_05: You know what?
- 5:06SPEAKER_05: I'm gonna just I'm just gonna drop in every week.
- 5:10SPEAKER_05: I'm gonna drop in a Dutch saying, and I want listeners to like think what they think it means.
- 5:16SPEAKER_05: So leave over the mountains this week.
- 5:18SPEAKER_01: You know, the people that like the end credits, so after the after the part where the music stops at the end of our podcast, maybe that can be the time where you'll translate a Dutch saying and people can guess what that means.
- 5:31SPEAKER_05: Exactly.
- 5:32SPEAKER_01: So on to some just news, onto some actual hockey stuff before we get started.
- 5:37SPEAKER_01: Um, some of the pro league is happening uh over in Australia.
- 5:41SPEAKER_01: I think the men are playing Spain and Argentina, I think that's happened now, and the women, Australian women, have been playing the USA and Argentina.
- 5:53SPEAKER_01: Um, the big news I think to come out of that was the Australian men got beat twice by Spain, um, which again goes along with our theme of what the hell's going on with Australia.
- 6:05SPEAKER_01: Um, Brenn, you've got any thoughts on this?
- 6:09SPEAKER_02: Uh not not really.
- 6:11SPEAKER_02: I think that that's very much the question.
- 6:13SPEAKER_02: Um, Spain are top of the pro league now, aren't they?
- 6:15SPEAKER_02: It's quite exciting.
- 6:16SPEAKER_02: Um, and also the USA women seem to have got a lot better over the past six to twelve months, which is also, I think, quite good in the build-up to LA.
- 6:26SPEAKER_02: I think that's quite a cool thing.
- 6:27SPEAKER_02: Um, so hopefully that trend keeps going, but also, yeah, the whole Australia scenario is one that's quite intriguing.
- 6:35SPEAKER_05: Well, maybe maybe they're just not that good.
- 6:38SPEAKER_05: Maybe we're just basing Australia being good in hockey hockey, as um Australia as a nation was always good at hockey, so they'll probably be good again.
- 6:49SPEAKER_05: I just maybe they're just they're not that good anymore.
- 6:53SPEAKER_05: Just throwing it out there.
- 6:55SPEAKER_01: It's quite strange though, because they've had the same team and it seems like they haven't made many changes, it's just suddenly teams are beating them, and I think that's maybe part of their problem, is that they have a lot of bravado and a lot of stuff where they get in your face and they try and beat you before the whistle's gone, and maybe people are starting to show up to that.
- 7:12SPEAKER_01: Um, or maybe you know, Spain are just pretty good now.
- 7:15SPEAKER_01: People keep saying that.
- 7:16SPEAKER_05: Which is also which is also a very valid point.
- 7:19SPEAKER_05: I think Spain is just also getting better and better because they were pretty close, they had a pretty shitty pool phase, I think, in the World Cup, which it didn't really fall their way.
- 7:28SPEAKER_05: I don't think they've been like you guys beat them pretty heavily, but I think except for the game against Malaysia, or was it Malaysia which they had shootouts?
- 7:37SPEAKER_05: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 7:39SPEAKER_05: Like they almost beat Australia, they had a they had a stroke, I think, at four or at three three all or at four-three.
- 7:45SPEAKER_05: They were like pretty close to already beating um Australia in the quarters.
- 7:50SPEAKER_05: I think maybe it's also that's people are underestimating Spain because they don't have a lot of like well-known names, but I think their team, like you don't beat Australia twice in Australia, um, if you if you're not a really good team.
- 8:04SPEAKER_05: So I think Spain is also just they're building up to something and then just they're just getting really good.
- 8:09SPEAKER_05: I think that's also just a part of it.
- 8:11SPEAKER_01: It's a fair assessment, I think.
- 8:13SPEAKER_01: I think in other news, there's been two.
- 8:16SPEAKER_01: If anyone was uh eagle, or whatever you'd say, a keen listener last week.
- 8:22SPEAKER_01: We mentioned that Craig Fulton is the new head coach of India men's hockey team.
- 8:28SPEAKER_01: He was the assistant coach of the Belgian team and the previous coach of Ireland, and he did uh was equally success successful with both them teams, so I think it's a pretty good appointment.
- 8:40SPEAKER_01: Uh, what do you guys think of that?
- 8:42SPEAKER_05: Yeah, my my problem just with with these things, I don't think like this is gonna change anything for India, to be honest.
- 8:50SPEAKER_05: Then with India, it's just a lack of consistency, they just don't.
- 8:54SPEAKER_05: It's up and down, it's up and down.
- 8:56SPEAKER_05: Uh a shitty tournament.
- 8:57SPEAKER_05: Okay, let's fire our coach.
- 8:58SPEAKER_05: Uh something is not in the right way, let's fire a coach.
- 9:02SPEAKER_05: Uh the selection is shit, ah, let's fire a coach.
- 9:04SPEAKER_05: There's always their solution, they just fire their coach and they look for a new one.
- 9:08SPEAKER_05: And I don't think I think Graham Reid did a really good job there.
- 9:11SPEAKER_05: He was he he built them back up and they were back in contention.
- 9:14SPEAKER_05: They had a shitty tournament.
- 9:16SPEAKER_05: Like, let's not uh talk around it, but like I don't think uh I I don't know him.
- 9:22SPEAKER_05: I know I just I know his face, I know that he was with Belgium as like a third coach.
- 9:27SPEAKER_05: Because let's let's be honest, it's it's Hoover was the head coach and uh Shane McLeod was next to him, and vice versa.
- 9:34SPEAKER_05: So I don't think he's gonna make the big change which is gonna make India uh world uh like Olympic champion.
- 9:39SPEAKER_05: They just need some consistency.
- 9:42SPEAKER_01: I do I do agree with you.
- 9:43SPEAKER_01: I think Graham Reed should never have gone.
- 9:45SPEAKER_01: He he did stuff with the India team that a lot of coaches have tried and failed, and just because they have crazy pressure on them for one tournament and they bomb out doesn't give a reason to get rid of him.
- 9:56SPEAKER_01: But Craig Fulton is heavily well a well, well respected coach.
- 10:00SPEAKER_01: I mean, he took Ireland to bronze medal at the Europeans in 2015.
- 10:04SPEAKER_01: Um, anyone who's come across him, anyone I've spoken to about him has said he's a he's a really really good coach and a good guy.
- 10:11SPEAKER_01: So it'll be interesting to see how he does that.
- 10:13SPEAKER_01: Brendan, are you are you anything for for that one?
- 10:16SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I I think like I think you've got to give Graham Reid the opportunity to learn from bombing out of the World Cup.
- 10:23SPEAKER_02: Like I think to just get rid kind of shows like a real same as as what you've saying, just a lack of consistency.
- 10:29SPEAKER_02: Like, surely give the person who's got you a bronze medal at an Olympics, like give him the opportunity to actually like sort and actually resolve a matter that obviously was against the trend as well, and I think kind of fight give them an opportunity to find out what didn't go right and what and things like that and kind of go from there.
- 10:47SPEAKER_02: But I think to get rid of him is quite rash, but at the same time, Cray Fortune, as you say, is like so well respected.
- 10:54SPEAKER_02: I I'm not surprised that he's gone in for that job and got the job, so I think it's yeah, it's interesting.
- 10:58SPEAKER_05: Yeah, the only thing I don't know is is is did Brendan or uh did Brendan did um did Graham get uh fired or did he like uh resign?
- 11:07SPEAKER_05: Because then I don't really know, to be honest.
- 11:10SPEAKER_01: I'm all about starting rumors here.
- 11:11SPEAKER_01: Now I heard he got told to resign, otherwise, he was fired.
- 11:15SPEAKER_05: Now I heard I heard he got fired in the locker room already after the last game against New Zealand.
- 11:22SPEAKER_01: Wow.
- 11:22SPEAKER_01: Well, I think India are probably the only nation that actually way more like football than like any other part of our sport.
- 11:32SPEAKER_01: It's like so cutthroat, there's so much pressure on them, they're they want instant results, they don't care how it's done.
- 11:38SPEAKER_01: Like it is very, very football-esque and compared to the whole of the rest of the hockey world, where you know, like someone can have terrible results for a for a hockey nation for years and still never get sacked.
- 11:50SPEAKER_01: So I don't know, is that good for the sport?
- 11:52SPEAKER_01: I'm probably probably not to be honest with you.
- 11:55SPEAKER_02: Do you think it relates to how much money is on the job?
- 11:58SPEAKER_02: The amount of money that's in that pot for India.
- 12:00SPEAKER_02: Like, let's face it, there's a hell of a lot.
- 12:02SPEAKER_02: Bear in mind the players were like, if they I think if they won, they got 100 grand each.
- 12:08SPEAKER_02: Was the win?
- 12:10SPEAKER_02: And I think there's a lot of money in that, yeah.
- 12:12SPEAKER_05: And I think they know that you that they have to pay uh like Europeans or Australians a shitload of money to come and live there.
- 12:20SPEAKER_05: Because let's be honest, no one wants to live in India.
- 12:25SPEAKER_01: Um other other other head coach news is Danny Kerry is the new coach of the Canada women's team.
- 12:32SPEAKER_01: What are they called, Brendan?
- 12:33SPEAKER_01: Do you know what they're called?
- 12:34SPEAKER_01: They're uh their tagline, they've got some some uh crazy Americanized tagline of what they're called.
- 12:41SPEAKER_01: But the cougars.
- 12:43SPEAKER_01: The cougars, I don't think it's the cougars, but it's a good shot, you um I think I don't know much about the Canada women, I don't know what their aspirations are, but you know, good luck to Danny over there.
- 12:56SPEAKER_05: I'm talking about that because honestly, I don't really give a shit about Danny Garrett.
- 13:00SPEAKER_05: Do you the is is the I don't like it.
- 13:02SPEAKER_05: The like the Red Lions, uh the the the Red Panthers, like Belgium do it.
- 13:08SPEAKER_05: I fucking hate it to be honest.
- 13:10SPEAKER_02: Just to let you know they are the Canadian wolf pack.
- 13:14SPEAKER_02: You sure?
- 13:15SPEAKER_02: I swear that's what not what they are.
- 13:17SPEAKER_02: No, they are, and the men of the red caribou like the caribou.
- 13:24SPEAKER_05: Just say you're the national, just say you're the national team, same as Kuka Burros.
- 13:28SPEAKER_05: Um why this is a great shit or hip.
- 13:32SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I think it's shit.
- 13:35SPEAKER_01: So let's save it for later.
- 13:36SPEAKER_01: Let's not guess cube.
- 13:40SPEAKER_01: What are the what are the other ones?
- 13:42SPEAKER_01: There's some good ones.
- 13:42SPEAKER_01: The but what are the what's the Belgian team?
- 13:45SPEAKER_01: The red lions.
- 13:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah, people love lions.
- 13:48SPEAKER_01: I thought we were English were all about lions, but it's apparently sort of Belgians.
- 13:52SPEAKER_01: We remember three lions, wouldn't we?
- 13:54SPEAKER_05: Yeah, but we were also the the the Oranje Leo at a certain point, like not us, but like the Dutch national team football was also.
- 14:01SPEAKER_05: No, fuck you, Brandon.
- 14:03SPEAKER_05: That's true.
- 14:04SPEAKER_05: But like they also referred to it.
- 14:06SPEAKER_05: Like, I was talking to Slo, to the Slover, and he said, Yeah, yeah, I have training Monday with the Red Lions again.
- 14:11SPEAKER_05: No, no.
- 14:13SPEAKER_05: With the national team.
- 14:14SPEAKER_05: I know you're Belgium.
- 14:16SPEAKER_05: I don't want to fucking hear red lions.
- 14:17SPEAKER_05: It's fucking shit.
- 14:18SPEAKER_05: Well, what you've got, you've got black sticks.
- 14:20SPEAKER_02: Ah, black sticks are the Spanish of the red sticks.
- 14:23SPEAKER_02: I like that.
- 14:24SPEAKER_02: That's good originality.
- 14:25SPEAKER_02: We've got the Honamas.
- 14:26SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you know, but you know why it's Honamas?
- 14:30SPEAKER_05: No, Hockey National Mannschaft.
- 14:33SPEAKER_02: Oh, that makes sense.
- 14:35SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 14:35SPEAKER_02: Phil, don't start smiling at the word shaft.
- 14:38SPEAKER_02: Crub.
- 14:40SPEAKER_02: No comment.
- 14:43unknown: Yeah.
- 14:44SPEAKER_01: What would what would what would you most like to be called as the Dutch team?
- 14:48SPEAKER_01: What's the animal that you'd most like to be compared to?
- 14:53SPEAKER_05: That's a great question, Phil.
- 14:56SPEAKER_05: Orange horses.
- 15:00SPEAKER_02: It's gotta be like the Dutch dynamos or something, hasn't it?
- 15:02SPEAKER_01: The dynamos.
- 15:04SPEAKER_01: What do you think, listeners?
- 15:06SPEAKER_01: What do you think the best name for the Dutch national team is?
- 15:09SPEAKER_04: Let us know.
- 15:11SPEAKER_05: Send us an email.
- 15:15SPEAKER_01: That's quite a good one.com.
- 15:20SPEAKER_01: I don't, I don't, I really I think the black sticks have been going for quite a while.
- 15:24SPEAKER_01: I I'm not with the Spanish red sticks.
- 15:26SPEAKER_01: It feels like they sat around a room and they were like, Oh, we should really have a new name.
- 15:31SPEAKER_01: And then there was a board, and they were like, Well, what colour do we play in?
- 15:35SPEAKER_01: Red, right, okay.
- 15:37SPEAKER_01: What do we use?
- 15:38SPEAKER_01: Sticks, boys.
- 15:41SPEAKER_01: We've got it.
- 15:43SPEAKER_01: They're first in ours, Phil.
- 15:45SPEAKER_01: Phil, we call we call ourselves the pride.
- 15:49SPEAKER_01: Oh no, we don't call ourselves the pride.
- 15:52SPEAKER_02: Oh, whatever the pride is related to us, uh Phil, it makes me literally feel sick inside when people use that phrase.
- 15:58SPEAKER_01: Come and join the pride.
- 16:01SPEAKER_01: The pride is the fan base, not the actual team.
- 16:03SPEAKER_02: Well, then we're technically the lions, then, aren't we?
- 16:06SPEAKER_04: Which fan base?
- 16:08SPEAKER_02: Yeah, exactly.
- 16:11SPEAKER_01: TJ you're depressing, yet honest.
- 16:14SPEAKER_01: Thank you.
- 16:14SPEAKER_01: That's actually an excellent segue into my topic of of the week before we go on to some overrated, underrated, which we had a lot of feedback for.
- 16:24SPEAKER_01: Um, my topic was first of all, we talk a lot about how hockey can change for the better.
- 16:31SPEAKER_01: Now, I and me and my wife are huge fans of any sports documentary, even if we don't like the sport.
- 16:38SPEAKER_01: So, first of all, we've watched Full Swing, gotta love it.
- 16:42SPEAKER_01: All or nothings, if anyone hasn't seen them on Amazon Prime, where they cover football, they cover the NFL, they cover ice hockey, um, they cover rugby, and then there's like Drive to Survive, the F1 one, and then there's Breakpoints Come Out from the Tennis One, and they're amazing like documentaries about sport, and they create like drama, coolness, like an amazing amount of stuff.
- 17:06SPEAKER_01: What would happen if an all-or-nothing hockey came out?
- 17:10SPEAKER_01: Would it be good?
- 17:11SPEAKER_01: Would it increase our like level of fan base?
- 17:14SPEAKER_01: Would it get more people interested in hockey?
- 17:16SPEAKER_01: The only reason I ask is because I watched Drive to Survive like five years ago, not caring and not and actively quite not liking F1.
- 17:26SPEAKER_01: Now I really like F1 just because of Drive to Survive.
- 17:29SPEAKER_02: Yeah, well, I I guess like the beauty of the beauty of the show is that you get to know the people, and I think that's one of the like the toughest things about our sport is the fact that you don't really ever get to know the person.
- 17:41SPEAKER_02: I think that's the I think that's the toughest thing about hockey is the lack of coverage.
- 17:45SPEAKER_02: So I think it would make a massive difference.
- 17:47SPEAKER_02: Do I think we'd still be running hockey if something came in and people saw what happens behind the scenes?
- 17:53SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 17:55SPEAKER_02: But it would what it would do is it would it would offer a lot of one discussion, but as I say, like just people getting to know, like people watching getting to know the players a bit more, we would be, especially from a GB point of view, I think it would be really exciting.
- 18:08SPEAKER_02: I think it'd be so funny.
- 18:09SPEAKER_02: Some of the stuff that goes on.
- 18:11SPEAKER_02: Uh you could have a whole episode, two episodes just related to Kalnan, to be honest.
- 18:16SPEAKER_02: I think that would be absolutely hilarious.
- 18:19SPEAKER_02: Um yeah, I think it would I think it would only uh offer something positive for the sport for sure.
- 18:29SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I uh I I agree.
- 18:31SPEAKER_05: I think the the the thing which which makes it like difficult for me is that it's um hockey is such uh it's such a weird sport uh to like start with with like club international, like one the one nation has doesn't have an international competition, the one nation does have an international comp like national competition.
- 18:55SPEAKER_05: Yeah, they have this this pro league, like it's it's really hard, like we don't even we don't even know what's going on half the time, and then then you're trying to like like bring it over to like other people.
- 19:10SPEAKER_05: That I think the the the the the thing which means I think hockey is like one of the most fun sports to watch because it's so quick before you know the game is over.
- 19:21SPEAKER_05: Um but that's only for people who know the game of hockey.
- 19:26SPEAKER_05: But because rules change every every week, because um there's just not a lot of money in it.
- 19:32SPEAKER_05: I think that's why it's because I think I'm biased, but I I'd rather watch a game of hockey than 90 minutes of football.
- 19:40SPEAKER_01: But I think because yeah, I think I think you you you you are I think hitting the nail on the head is that we don't have a good structure and it it would probably take a lot longer than the standard couple of minutes of an intro of how hockey works to actually explain to people what what what the hell we do because, for example, like again, I watched an all-or-nothing on the Toronto Maple Leaves, which is an ice hockey team.
- 20:04SPEAKER_01: Now, I have never ever watched a game of ice hockey before.
- 20:07SPEAKER_01: I I don't understand the rules apart from the fact that they're on ice playing hockey, and I absolutely loved it, like it was so good.
- 20:16SPEAKER_01: But again, it was fairly easy to understand their season, they were trying to make the playoffs, they had a clear win-loss ratio, and there was a point they had to do.
- 20:26SPEAKER_01: Now, I guess it might be possible, but what you're saying is hockey needs to be simplified, but also it's a really sick sport to watch.
- 20:33SPEAKER_01: But again, I also think that lack of cameras, lack of high-quality cameras, like to get the best viewership, maybe isn't there either.
- 20:43SPEAKER_05: No, and there and there's a I think that there is a like a stigma on hockey itself, as as like it's uh it's a it's a still viewed as a sport for like uh posh people, and like uh in in America, I know only women play uh field hockey, uh, and in the rest of the world, it's like it's a it's looked as or it's maybe it still is like a pretty posh sport for like the don't know how to say the correct things, but like the upper class.
- 21:10SPEAKER_05: Yeah, um, and I think and for me the problem also is a little bit that like this week there was an interview with the coach of uh KZ, uh Klein-Switzerland.
- 21:21SPEAKER_05: Uh and because of Pro League, they missed their two uh Aussie players, uh, and next week they missed their German players.
- 21:31SPEAKER_05: And he said, and I think I 100% agree with him.
- 21:35SPEAKER_05: Um, he said, You're playing in like the Premier League of hockey, you're playing in the biggest competition, the the most viewed competition.
- 21:42SPEAKER_05: I think the highest on the club level, like the the highest level there is, and uh you're missing the top players of your team because somewhere else in the world, on the other side of the world, there's there's games being played.
- 21:58SPEAKER_05: Like if you want to group.
- 22:00SPEAKER_02: grow as an as an as a as a sport and if you want to get this kind of like a documentary or if you want to like get more viewership and stuff then it can then then those things like really fuck it up and I think that's that's there's no there's no like clear there's no structure in hockey like the opposite is like football in which everything is has been the same for the last 150 years and there is no change but hockey is like on the complete other side of the spectrum in which everything changes and there's no consistency and it just doesn't like I think yeah that's like that's like the that's the crux of the problem is the fact that there are structures in place but each nation thinks they've got the best structure so then there's no consistent structure for a world calendar so then unfortunately because people are trying to fit in games like pro league for example like let's take our league for example if we miss a league game in the next three weeks as part of our final group phase our playoffs get postponed by six weeks because of pro league in New Zealand so like that alone is like so complicated because of what goes on like the knock on effect is huge and to try and explain that over a let's say for example over a documentation especially if you did like a drive to survive let's say for example where you're looking at different teams and different bits of it everyone's episode is going to be so different that you can't there's not enough time to explain the different scenarios and the different structures because everybody does no nobody sings off the same hymn sheet everything is so different.
- 23:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah you go Phil the the that also I think consistency will create fan bases as well like if you have the right level of consistency if you have the right structure in place that means people know for example I think we've talked about it before rugby six nations everyone knows every springtime the rugby six nations is coming for six weeks eight weeks whatever it is everyone knows that you know every 18 months there's a cricket ashes everyone knows every four years like we we have to have more consistency I think in hockey and then I think the fan base is come yeah like a like a rider cup with golf or with like a lever cup or whatever it's like in tennis or like yeah yeah well well I think I think and that's also a thing which which I've which you've you've learned a bit from like from like sports as golf which is like easier because it's an individual sport but also push they push forward their like their faces if you know what I mean so like a Rory McElroy Justin Thomas whatever like the the golfers same like I don't and that's my point which I wanted to make like I don't get the the one competition in the world of with hockey which is like broadcasted well which has like live games every week which has a good summary after every game and which creates a lot of like a which creates a fan base they just they don't even consider it with the international uh agenda of like you know what I mean yeah if it the the best players in the world all the best players in the world have played in Holland almost like almost all of the best players in the world like just name any of the top 10 players ever in in the world and they've played in the hoofklas probably so why don't you just push it forward a little bit more there is already broadcasting why don't you like elevate that part and then you can grow the game further and golf does it as well you create heroes with like McElroy Tiger Woods did it and guys and then it creates it it's a knock-on effect i don't I don't I don't necessarily think they have to just promote for example the Dutch league like I agree is that it is the best league but what also be interesting is if they promoted any of the leagues but there's no promotion of any form of domestic competition no it's literally only international and unfortunately if you're not in the pro league you really get a limited access to any form of exposure which which again makes no sense.
- 25:49SPEAKER_02: Like for example like when Chile played in the Women's World Cup one of their players was proposed to like that kind of thing's like such a cool thing but again because Chile are quite a small nation it didn't necessarily get publicized as probably as big as it should have done and it's like that for me is like such like a it's a real it's a real issue in sport in the fact that I don't necessarily know if the FIH understands the leagues like the domestic scenarios in each country like I don't think they understand that at all.
- 26:20SPEAKER_02: Which I think again goes back to yeah the point of consistency like I just think there's a real lack of I don't necessarily know what the direction FIH want to go in and I'd be interested to know if I don't necessarily know.
- 26:31SPEAKER_01: There's two more takes here that I've got so first of all you started with hockey is a rich rich sport and I think it's it's a middle class sport and I think people would struggle to argue with that which means there should be people to pump some money in and I think hockey needs some money.
- 26:50SPEAKER_01: I think you you almost it's the chicken and the egg but I think first of all you might need some money to start something whatever it is and then the viewership the fanship might come because of the quality of the product my second take I've also realized that having watched all these documentaries there's actually so much more than the actual sport going on.
- 27:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah so for example again drive to survive you look at the hype around an event they're driving around a track for an hour and a half you know it's over three days the pinnacle is this Sunday where they drive around for an hour and a half look at the hype around it look at the fan parks look at the stuff that's going on around the sport if you go and watch a hockey match it's just a hockey match I yeah I'll so I so I'm gonna challenge the first one and the second one first one I'd say is um I I wonder how many people who could invest see a positive gain out of it like whether it's for the sport or whether it's financially like I wonder how much people look at that and think not sure.
- 27:53SPEAKER_02: And the second part is I have to admit for the World Cup in India the the actual fan park was unbelievable but it's World Cup so you'd expect it to be that level your point is completely valid.
- 28:05SPEAKER_02: Like I think unless it's a major tournament there's no real setup to look after the fans and I think that's I think that's the most important thing.
- 28:13SPEAKER_02: So let's say for example a game on the weekend why would people come watch a game on a weekend in November when there's no covered seating so you're gonna get piss wet through it's cold you might get a hot like a hot drink you might get a pint but you're just exposed to the elements like for me I think like and I've had this conversation with others and Dave Condon's a big person for this he's like we need to start looking after fans better to then drive that fan base but until we do that we're probably not gonna not much is going to change which I think is actually a really interesting take and I completely agree with him.
- 28:45SPEAKER_02: Yeah and just yeah it I'm I'm just I'm just also thinking a little bit with like if I like let's say for example OR OR's got an awesome club like the clubhouse is genuinely so nice if they got a covered stand so where your all your concrete steps are on the one side if that was just covered like just literally with a tin roof like for example I generally think that would make such a difference on one noise because you track the noise and suddenly it becomes a lot louder and two the minute you're protecting people from rain from snow whatever it may be suddenly it just creates that little bit more of an atmosphere because people then you're gonna get more and more people because they know they're not gonna get piss wet through especially in like if you're looking at UK you're looking at Holland like countries that it rains a lot I think right I like I I I know what you're saying but I think like Rotterdam has like a covered uh uh roof and there's also not a lot when it's raining there's also not a lot lot of people there like I just think like is is hockey that maybe it's like like like we're biased we we we we play the game we like to watch the game it's uh we're we're we're we're fans of the game like is is hockey like follow is it like easy to follow is it fun to look at for someone who has no clue about hockey if you bring someone to a hockey game is it fun I think it is like I've I've had people who've never watched the game fucking think oh fuck it goes way quicker than the football does but I but again the the thing is you no one gets the game even how can how can a sport grow if the players it there's themselves don't even know how the rules really work.
- 30:27SPEAKER_01: Well hey let's let's we're we're asking the question I think this has been a pretty good discussion I I believe in my opinion it needs a a a bit of a reset a fresh pair of eyes looking on it and and trying to go again we're gonna we're gonna move on to a break and get on to more fun stuff if you've got anything to add to this we'd love to hear about it because this is something actually I think the three of us are pretty passionate about about growing the game about making the sport a better place to be so we'll be back in a sec.
- 30:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah or if you have a lot of money just chug it at the hooky spot and make it better we are making a return of the overrated underrated segment Brendan put it out there on Instagram he we got a lot of reaction so thank you for that and then we're gonna go through some some funny ones to start with and then some some serious ones so um well I mean I'll put it out there to both of you to start with do you have anyone that you wanted to shout out for overrated underrated you know we're going post World Cup we've got some big tournaments obviously happened anyone anyone springing to mind Matt Dawson is like there's a question is he overrated I think he's a good player but I think he didn't have a good world cup on on this podcast I would say he's overrated we rate him on this podcast yeah I I think so too I'm starting to think maybe he's not in the same conversation as like the Sloveg and Art Evan Doren guys like that.
- 32:04SPEAKER_05: Don't get me wrong I think he's a fucking unreal uh like he's a really good center back but maybe he's not on the level of like those guys I don't think he can change the game in the way those guys can agree like it doesn't have to be if you're overrated maybe we just rated him like really high I think that's fair.
- 32:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah yeah I think to start some funny ones um Josh wrote in on Instagram and he thinks I'm overrated and I'm getting up I'm getting shown up by a 40 year old every weekend.
- 32:39SPEAKER_01: Now I didn't completely understand what this meant um other than maybe because I play with Barry Middleton every weekend and maybe he shows me up but thank you Josh I'll try and take that on and do what I can with it I think I think Josh got Phil a little bit on the closet if we're if we're completely on look I'm I'm trying to read between the lines I don't know any other 40 year olds playing about so yeah I wouldn't say that's I wouldn't say that's reading between the lines Phil I guess that's just understanding what he said beat Brendan okay onto onto us definitely no we're not going to completely on the closet yeah he's definitely on the closet and I definitely want to like get into this like Brendan how would you rate Phil because then we can decide if he's like overrated like what is Phil Phil's role at Holcomb is is a is a peculiar one we've got him yeah he's specific that he's Holcomb yeah just in general play a role at Holcomb that's like yeah it's it's you played differently at Holcomb to where to every other team so your role is different you're beating about the bush yeah you're fucking sitting on that fence boy like is Phil like a top midfielder in the world is Phil like just a really nice international player is Phil just lucky he made he makes selections like what is Phil no i I genuinely don't think Phil's overrated yeah but how okay but how do you rate him I'd say he's a I'd say he is one of the best in the world yeah then I think he's overrated well played and we'll move it on E Bickers thinks Creed is underrated and should have been at the World Cup and hey you is Brendan overrated or underrated I think he is underrated I think you are overrated Phil I want to stress that and I think Brendan is underrated but that's just you know you know why that is because you are rated really high Phil Brendan is just rated really low so automatically he becomes underrated like we cannot rate Brendan any low no let's get it no I think Brendan like I think the the times I've played Brendan he was always good so I think Brendan is a really nice center back I think one of the and you're not gonna like what I said what I'm saying right now Brendan but I think I think Beerscott also relegated partially because they missed someone like you even the slovers said it and like not in those exact words but you could feel because he would never say but like in those in that area that's yeah that's I see what you mean.
- 35:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah that's a real backhanded compliment Brendan's so so so uncomfortable I mean we both do this when you start talking unfortunately no one got back to us about you so Brendan is you overrated or underrated I think similar to me under because I'm just gonna keep it sweet I'm just gonna keep it sweet I'm not gonna mess around here saw your assist on the from the weekend you can good ball that yeah thank you hey don't worry about it I watched the highlights Bill doesn't but I watch the highlights don't worry about it he was on the right hand side as normal as normal he he slapped a ball into the top of the D.
- 36:17SPEAKER_02: Bill was more interested in the Blumenthal highlights not sure why why have you got to do me like that right we'll get on some proper ones um Sam Peoples messaged in saying he thinks Flint Ogilvy is one of the most underrated players in the whole world thinks he's a top player no I thought that was strong like he he's a good player anytime I play him I'm like that guy's a good player but I don't think he's one of the most underrated players in the world he goes about his business but I think that's because he goes about his business yeah I I was about to say that like he goes about he just gets on with his job um I like him I think he's I think he's a really good player I wouldn't necessarily say he's one of the most underrated in the world though but I would say that he does go under the radar a bit because it's not necessarily flashy what he does but he does keep the game moving pretty well I'd say he's a good player.
- 37:06SPEAKER_01: Right well let's let me let's maybe go through them.
- 37:09SPEAKER_05: If you agree let's just go with a with a yes yeah but I I I I I I do I do kind of agree with that one because I think he's really good he's one of the better midfielders of Australia in my opinion and he never really gets the credit for it.
- 37:20SPEAKER_01: So I do think he's like a really good example of someone who's underrated like sometimes we say someone is underrated while he's constantly getting like uh credit like then you're not even then you're not underrated anymore I think Ogolf we've never talked about him we've never even mentioned him I don't people don't think people mention him a lot and I think he's a I would love to have a player like that in my team yeah that's a nice take you that's a nice take Marcus Powell uh wrote in saying tangy cousins oh sorry for the pronunciation there you underrated and uh Mazilli is overrated tangy cousins uh overrated for me yeah cousins cousins cozines there you go for you do know it you do know uh I don't think cozains is uh underrated I think he's a he's a solid uh striker for me he's and I'll chug you I'll chug you uh a nice little Dutch saying he's neither uh meat nor fish he's just for me he's not like a real striker like a guy who kills a guy who provides or like he's not a real striker but he's also not a real midfielder I wouldn't put him in the midfield I wouldn't like so I think he's properly he's like a guy who's like he's not overrated but I think he's just properly he is what he is he's like a nice nice international player he will never win you tournaments or really win you games he'll never lose you games he's just there I I kind of disagree he frustrates the shit out of me watching him play it's like I think he's like one of them guys who probably can do absolutely everything he can like aerial drag flick he can hit a perfect ball you watch him play it's like he can either do it or he can just stand there and get moody and not do jack shit.
- 39:21SPEAKER_01: Like I I've watched him a couple of times in the World Cup final he had a couple where like he played some really nice passes he had some really nice carries and then he randomly had moments where he just switched off and went to sleep and that was frustrating and I'd say he's probably sits where he sits yeah so we're actually I'm like kinda saying the same in a completely different way yeah yeah um Harry Tancer says Nick Park is underrated but he also said that the Mazzili is overrated.
- 39:55SPEAKER_01: Oh sorry yeah Mazzilli's overrated is that true or not I think it's harsh to start judging someone when they're kind of like he's he's maybe getting to that point he's getting to his his his last years in the game it seems like and yeah it's harsh to say he's overrated now because in his heyday he was really really really good now maybe because he's not having the same impact it's pretty harsh to say he's overrated so I'm not a big fan of that agreed but I do I do think that I that my opinion I think he is closer to being overrated than underrated because he he people still keep the hype of what he used to be able to do yeah it looks really nice it looks really cool but sometimes you're like but what's the actual what what what do we actually gain out of it yeah same with like uh what's uh the with keen from uh from Argentina like I know everybody looks at it and he he he like gets the ball on the stick and starts running down the line and you're like yeah it looks cool but in the end you're in the corner of the field and there's nothing really happening like you know what I mean like for instance cherry brinkman uh I think with him it never really looks that cool but it's just fucking effective and he wins every game like and he wins games you know what I mean it's like the equivalent it's like I did not agree with you more and actually it pisses me off when people on the sideline are like whoa look at him he can dribble with the ball in the air yeah we can all do that but we don't like for a reason Brandon cannot but like I cannot do that no I don't but I'm also in the same I'm just I'm agreeing with you guys I just can't dribble in the air no but I think like for for me it's it's like that's why Jogh Kron got like got up a level because he stopped doing all the stupid shit and he just started to play like really direct hooky and now he's one of the better midfielders in the world that's what he changed and now he's like like like same I think that's the step and and um with Keenan I just like that's a guy who I think is a bit overrated.
- 42:09SPEAKER_05: He's a good player he he should be an Argentina national team I think he's I would I I would like to have him on my squad but he's not like that special because he never really go goes to something yeah he doesn't impact the game as much I think it's a it's such a valid point as well like you can look great you can beat two players but then if you're back in the same place you started it doesn't make jack shit a difference.
- 42:31SPEAKER_01: No but people on the sideline think that's cool so maybe we'll go um the top of the D thinks Stadler is underrated and deserves his own goalie stick now I've got a I've got to check this in Ross Bone we know you Ross you you're a keeper you're obviously always gonna be on this keepers union shit alex stadler is a good goalkeeper.
- 42:53SPEAKER_01: I don't think anyone here is disagreeing with that he's not underrated though I don't think nah that's just poking the bear he's just trying to get an reaction we're not giving yeah and he'll get one fuck you Ross okay okay he's got one getting your own stick is like the equivalent of a signature shoe in the NBA Alexander Stottle is not LeBron James Michael Jordan Kyrie like it's not on that level let's mate like if Zach Wallace got his own shoe or like his own stick because he's Michael Jordan he he he has got his own stick see because he's Michael Jordan my point that is such a good point though you you're so you're actually bang on there like how many people in the world have got their own stick can you name can you name many no exactly it's because you've got to be really fucking good to do it.
- 43:49SPEAKER_05: Robert van der Ost had one Duneno had one see my point there Takatakama like one of the best known as the first real good drag flickers or like really really good drag clickers.
- 44:01SPEAKER_05: That's that's that's exactly what I mean.
- 44:04SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 44:04SPEAKER_05: So top of the D, I don't know your name.
- 44:08SPEAKER_05: Go make your own goalie podcast if you're that fan of goalies and want to give Alexander Stadler his own his own little stick.
- 44:14SPEAKER_02: We like we like to clarify you we like Ross.
- 44:18SPEAKER_04: Ross we like you but but start your goalie podcast no complaint about us we don't we don't care if goal we don't care about goalies they shouldn't they they use this did their stick half a they don't even use it.
- 44:30SPEAKER_05: This is yeah this is the next one I think this must be a burner account uh the frisky sausage had had two had two had two takes he thinks Mustafa Cassim is overrated and they're pushing his profile with the FIH and he also thinks max caldas is overrated as a coach okay i'm going to I'm going to chip in here on both ones one I think casim um I've already made my point about the Cassim brothers I think they are incredibly fun to look at um because they play in the in the country they play in they get a lot of freedom they can run into six four hands uh and the seventh time they're still allowed to make their own dribble and if you go if I start running down the right hand side 10 times in a row of course I'm gonna go past one like there is this comedian who says if I go stand with a boner on a stage and everybody chugs a donut at me of course one is gonna stick but that's not that's not like it's not efficient there's better ways to do it it's not efficient there's better ways to do it so I think if if the casino brothers start start making their actions of course they're gonna go past of course of course they're gonna make nice actions so I don't think he's overrated for that reason I just think he is he also he is what he is he just he gets a lot of freedom he can make his own action and I don't think max cardos is an overrated coach everybody's always bitches about the Dutch national team about that they didn't perform in Holland and whatever Max Carlos has won three european goals has been in the in the in the world cup final and lost on shootouts we were up 2-1 with the shoe outs shootouts and sevi missed his shootout and that's why we didn't become world champions we just fucked up two Olympics okay we really underperformed there but we've also won a shitload and he and everybody's saying he's a shit ghost or whatever I don't agree same now with Spain he's been there what a year and a half and you already see Spain while they've been struggling for the last 10 years you see them coming up again he's doing something right frisky sausage there you go you've had your response um oh uh Zoe said Anatoman is underrated nothing flashy but doing a solid job every time yeah agreed agreed Ruben thinks aubrey is underrated aubrey oh the oh yeah um I don't I don't I don't know I don't really think he's a really good player so I don't know if I under if I would underrate him he's a good centre back right I think in the world in the world of hockey I think he is underrated because like I think he's a really really good player he's he's a crazy solid player he can play over multiple positions he's really hard to get the ball off he he pretty much can do everything and I think it's only a matter of time before he starts getting rated properly in the world of hockey yeah maybe that's my and maybe that's I think that's an excellent point Phil we should not look at what we think about like what the general opinion is and I think the general opinion is there's not a lot there's not a lot of general opinions about Aubrey but I think he's a really good centre he's he's well respected I think within the people within the international hockey itself that's a good point yeah I think that's fair I this is a I'm not sure I'm gonna pronounce it wrong Ross Jones thinks Aisha McFerrin is underrated the the the women's goalkeeper um no I I don't think so I think previously maybe but I don't think she is now I mean by all accounts she's struggling to get into the Campong side I think as a ex-world goalkeeper of the year I think that's quite interesting that you're kind of struggling to break that mold in the in the Dutch league and I think again I think it shows how good the Dutch league is but also like I don't necessarily think you can I don't think people necessarily think of her as is she a world goalie of the year Brendan I think I thought she was she might not have been or just a silver medal at World Cup let's go with that's that's a whole different I've I have a silver silver medal in the world cup but I'm nowhere close to being the best rookie player in the world Brendan that's two that's two whole different things yeah I got that one wrong apologies I love chucking it out there Brendan I really love how you chuck it out there without knowing I think because she won that she won silver at the World Cup I assume that she got it that year but she didn't I mean she she kept a lot of clean sheets that year.
- 49:02SPEAKER_01: Let's be honest Maddie probably won it that year didn't she did oh someone's gone to sleep on the couch today let's finish off with some shit or hits because um we've got to uh we've got to we've we've got to roll keep rolling on it felt it felt like quite a serious hockey podcast this week which has felt quite strange um sucks the first shit or hit now I'm gonna bring up what I did this week I got a fair amount of shit for it but I want to see where you two stand um I've had this NFL hand muff kind of warmer thing and if anyone doesn't know what that is it like clips around your waist and then when your hands are cold you you put it in and it's like keeps your hands warm now it was like three degrees of training I found it in my uh in my like basket next to my stairs and I was like yeah I'm just gonna do it right and it went down with some people like incredibly well and some people really badly so shit or hit yeah I'm I think you know the snoods as well are both of them are hits for me the hand warms and snoods I think you've got to do what you can to stay warm especially when we're training in that temperature I'm I'm all for it.
- 50:15SPEAKER_05: Yeah I completely agree I I have I once asked the manager like every time when it when it's cold if he can bring hot like hot tea for me at halftime just so I can put like like a little bitch who's sitting on the couch reading a book like I could hold my my cup of tea so I could my hands could get warm.
- 50:34SPEAKER_05: Yeah I was sitting like that Brandon like a bitch like the bitch I am so yeah um I think it's a hit it looks a bit cooler and I think there's here's my here's like a like a like a thing for me which like I think everything in America looks is is cooler than it is right here.
- 50:53SPEAKER_05: So I've I've if I look at the NBA and I see the guys like cheering or like the shit they yell or like the M1 and stuff like that if they do it I think oh that's fucking cool.
- 51:05SPEAKER_05: When I go look at the basketball game in Holland they do the exact same shit but I just I'm like no it doesn't work like that so like the heck you you guys are not cool enough to do this.
- 51:18SPEAKER_01: I don't know but I think the same if you if Phil if you came to Ray Road with this thing like I love it but the other way I think Phil you're not cool enough to wear this and I think that was my point is that is that is that it's not whether it's cool it's whether like I I can maybe pull or a normal hockey player can pull it off because if you saw it like it was quite funny by the end of the session people are you know they're putting their hands in my hand muff to keep warm so I think that's a hit and you can clip that Jack but I should have taken a photo and then we could have like used it but anyway let's keep going um running away after scoring a goal I'm not sure which one of you wrote this yeah I wrote this I think we've already done this but go on shit all hit I know you do it you always run away right yeah but are you meant to celebrate a goal or you just meant to like what stand there?
- 52:15SPEAKER_02: I think if there's a big crowd I'm all for it because you can G up the crowd you can get involved with the crowd I'm I'm all for it so like commies when you did it and you ran down the sideline giving it full beans to the crowd I'm all for that when there's six people and their dogs in the crowd it looks budget as hell so I think it's really situational.
- 52:35SPEAKER_05: I could not agree more yeah I just for me there's like a there's like a that's I think Brendan hit the nail on the head but I think also there there is like a there is like a fine line like Yip Jansson runs away after he scores the 14 nil against uh Chile like I don't I don't think that's like even if it's World Cup I don't think that's Alexander Hendricks sometimes uh in in the Hofclass he scores the the last minute winner and he he he doesn't even celebrate like I know he scores 700 goals a month but like still like there's a there's something in between there.
- 53:13SPEAKER_01: I think it's way I think it's way shitter for you to score and run back to the halfway line I get really really frustrated by that.
- 53:20SPEAKER_02: Yeah and we and and in in women's hockey they have something that's even more funny they just it doesn't matter who scores they're all like huddle up inside each other it's also the jump jump first as well in the air and then like like a big group hook and it doesn't matter you but I really really hope if you score a goal which let's be honest is going to be like an injector deflector in the next few weeks is there any chance on the hockey nl site or icons hockey we can see you jumping up and down i i i I want to weigh in on something I want to weigh in on something the the next goal I score one one second Brendan the next goal I score I'll I'll I'll cheer like a like like jumping with my hands in here like old school I'll do it we'll never have because I never score but still Brendan you go you know you know when you ropes you were saying about just running back to the halfway line that's shit there's something really satisfying though about somebody who scored the goal going to pick the ball up and running back and putting it on the P on the center spot there's something really really like budget football like satisfying about that level of like just shit already of just it's so good.
- 54:26SPEAKER_02: Like that I've I'm pretty sure I've seen Halimer do it for OR where he's just gone I think it's like EHL where he's gone before scored and he's just and you see him sprinting back and the ball's placed down and I'm like that is budgetly cool and at the same time really shit.
- 54:40SPEAKER_01: And then wait 30 seconds because there's 40 seconds we had it we had a really funny one last weekend at Holcomb where they were having some of the lads were having this joke with Tom Russell one of our players pre-team like what what should he do as a celebration of his scores and I don't know if you've heard of like the stanky leg.
- 55:00SPEAKER_01: I'm not sure if you've heard of it it's not it's it's it's if anyone hasn't looked look it up it's like a bit of an NFL thing.
- 55:07SPEAKER_01: Anyway he he scores to go six nil up against Reading um he's in the opposite corner to where any crowd is I go over to high five him he stops and starts doing the stanky leg.
- 55:18SPEAKER_01: Now at that point I instantly decided I'm turning round and I'm not not even going to go over to him what what's the what's the deal with that like like scoring a six nil up and doing an actual like actual celebration.
- 55:31SPEAKER_02: This goes back to Yip though doesn't it it goes back to that like you can't do it you've just got to you that's when you've just got to like high five a few people and just jog back.
- 55:39SPEAKER_02: That's not like uh you can't go big celebration on that.
- 55:42SPEAKER_01: Do you just look a knob also Brennan let's let's be honest right uh we're talking about celebrations and we haven't brought up yours which is Brenda we've done it before in previous pods I'm sure Brennan scored one international goal and he went absolutely mental and everyone else did to be fair because everyone was buzzing for him when you go 60 70 games without scoring a goal everyone's like amazing that's incredible and then he ruined it because he got subbed straight afterwards and he went and picked up Danny Kerry our coach and hugged him really really hard everyone else was like no that's where we draw the line yeah one yeah not great two it was like picking up a child it's one of the weirdest things I've ever done and I never want to do that again can we move on Brendan yeah I I thanks Phil for for putting if I contribute I want credit this was mine.
- 56:39SPEAKER_05: The gym gloves you know them yeah shit the old fingerless gloves yeah yeah oh they fucking grind my gears oh they're so fucking disgusting like the Slova wears like a lot of the Belgians wear them like because they've got loads of like infomercials they've got to do yeah I don't care it's it if you see how much I'm struggling with them they're they look fucking shit they look fucking it's it's like uh what I love this one it's from Pokemon yeah is sleeveless tops and gym gloves is like a real budget look yeah that's that that's a red flag there I think why do they use them the slovo uses them I think why the fuck are you using them?
- 57:28SPEAKER_05: Why why do they just protect the calluses yeah I don't know I like don't get me wrong I love the slova i he's fucking awesome but don't wear the gloves come on you're way too good of a player to to your reputation has been harmed is this how you is this how you're telling him by the way are you if you told him to his face or is this just how you're telling him no I never tell people in the face they just have to listen to my podcast your podcast yeah you guys are my guests right who's get go I'm taking over sooner or later that's fair who's who's who's put vlogs as shit or yeah me me also because it was also I know I know shit or hit is like turning into a little bit of therapy for me where I when I just think some something is shit I put it as the excuse for shit or hit but like Plone my girlfriend she watches vlogs people who take a camera and just show their day show their outfit like I know I'm I'm I'm I'm a bit of an idiot as well because I watch like people play golf a lot which is also pretty maybe weird on YouTube but like she watches this a girl who just talks to a camera the whole day and just dresses up and says what she's wearing I don't get it maybe it's a guy thing but I think I don't get it I think it's shit yeah yeah yeah that's pretty shit although Brendan's YouTube must be full of crazy crazy stuff let's let's not bring up that please go into your YouTube and tell us your top three searches yeah that's a dark hole I think you don't want to enter Phil that's what she said okay next one I um yeah it's not really a shit or hit but I I'm I was just curious it was just a small little little little little question is what music should is like gets you the most hyped before a game like entering the field so when you leave leave the tunnel and I know in in in England it's probably there there aren't any tunnels uh in or any clubhouses for that sake but like um like like leaving tunnel down to the pitch what music gets you hyped the most i'm gonna be I'm gonna be nice to the Dutch here and or probably the Germans as well like when any songs you're playing pre-game it's normally they got a dirty beat and it is like I don't know it's like Fisher or something like that.
- 59:53SPEAKER_01: It really gets me going I absolutely love it.
- 59:55SPEAKER_01: Like I don't really like any of the whole like we have sweet Caroline or something like that.
- 1:00:00SPEAKER_02: It's it's not it's not not a bit of a mess no no no as in like Phil's talking at a stadium whereas I feel you you're talking changing room music no no you you both don't get me I mean like the announcer says and here they come and then you walk onto the pitch you guys don't have like lineups yeah no no not for club not for club now so fucking amateuristic bunch of shit faces okay so we have like a lineup Phil you've you've been at our club when you still answer I just answered you yeah I you I knew what you were talking about okay Brent so Brendan doesn't like my thing is you know what I would like is like ACDC like some like rock like in America they do it like with basketball but like before a game they start like like highway to hell or something that's what gets me going that's fair I just I just I just like uh the like the Fisher type vibe I'd like I'd be happy I'd be happy with anything oh I'm really I don't have an opinion I'm happy with Ellen no I'm saying we don't have it so I can't give you an answer the only time we ever get it is indoors and to be fair that was class what did you have yeah I genuinely anything I'm genuinely not that no as long as it's not like a sweet Carolinas in literally if it was rock or if it was some dirty drum and bass I'd be well happy.
- 1:01:21SPEAKER_05: Yeah so if if it's Britney Spears hit me baby one more time you're still like oh that's nice.
- 1:01:26SPEAKER_01: I'll know all the lyrics but I don't necessarily think that helps you love the lyrics right I don't even know how to end this podcast I mean this is this has been episode five of Let's Stick Together it's been it's been pretty good we've done a lot of hockey chat uh Brennan's definitely ready to go but yeah thank you anyone again who's listened and uh let us know any underrated overrated what you think of the all or nothing chat and uh you'll 100% finish off with his Dutch saying so my lovely listeners seductive hour I'm gonna have to think a little bit I like I might leave the call because my dinner's just arrived no I'm gonna like I think we had hole in the hand and we had can I can I leave I my dinner has arrived that's in you have to shit the right should I take I have five minutes left a good saying we have so many I like the fact that just if anyone's still listening and Thea decides not to cut this out Brendan's actually left you's just sat here trying to come up with a Dutch saying I think if it's this hard maybe we don't do it.
- 1:03:03SPEAKER_01: I think that's what she said.
- 1:03:05SPEAKER_05: We've did we've did uh uh we've did neither fish nor meat we've did you know what I'm fucking done with this
