- 0:01Speaker 1: Thanks Mike. Yes, we are here with the birthday boy
- 0:03Speaker 1: who promised to talk to us only if I stopped singing.
- 0:07Speaker 1: It's the centennial for the Red Wings here this season.
- 0:09Speaker 1: You've spent the bulk of your NHL career. You debuted
- 0:12Speaker 1: here in Detroit. You were roommates with Steve Weiserman back
- 0:16Speaker 1: in the day. What do you remember about your time
- 0:19Speaker 1: here in Motown and again a team that you're very
- 0:22Speaker 1: familiar with as a player and as a coach now
- 0:25Speaker 1: coming up on one hundred years, just your your memories
- 0:28Speaker 1: of Detroit and your thoughts on this organization that you
- 0:31Speaker 1: played a lot of your NHL career with.
- 0:33Speaker 2: Yeah, well, I mean the organization is unbelievable. You know
- 0:38Speaker 2: when when we first came in or when I first
- 0:40Speaker 2: came in here as a young nineteen year old, you know,
- 0:45Speaker 2: it was it was a real eye opener, you know
- 0:47Speaker 2: where you know, there was more people at the at
- 0:51Speaker 2: the opening game, you know, at Joe Louis Arena than
- 0:54Speaker 2: lived in my town in swift Kern, Siskatchewan.
- 0:56Speaker 3: So you know, you grew up and it's.
- 0:58Speaker 2: Kind of like a real sort of a real, I
- 1:01Speaker 2: guess eye opener. And you know, but I thought the
- 1:06Speaker 2: management team ownership, you know, they had just taken over
- 1:09Speaker 2: the year prior to me and Izermand coming here. They
- 1:13Speaker 2: had a heck of a draft in nineteen eighty three,
- 1:15Speaker 2: getting you know, Joey Kosher, Bob Probert, Peter Klima, you know,
- 1:20Speaker 2: guys that laid the foundation for this hockey team for
- 1:23Speaker 2: years to come. And we're integral parts of their Stanley
- 1:25Speaker 2: cups and so the you know, the management hasn't and
- 1:29Speaker 2: does a great job here. And you know, my time
- 1:33Speaker 2: here was fantastic.
- 1:35Speaker 1: You know.
- 1:35Speaker 2: It was, like I say, it was first couple of
- 1:38Speaker 2: years and first three years in the National Hockey League,
- 1:41Speaker 2: and what more did you want as a as a
- 1:43Speaker 2: nineteen year old kid, you know, your dream had come
- 1:45Speaker 2: true and you just tried to do your best every day.
- 1:48Speaker 1: Between you and Steve Eiserman, who was the cleaner roommate,
- 1:51Speaker 1: who was the one that would clean up after themselves more?
- 1:54Speaker 2: You know what, I got to tell you that I
- 1:56Speaker 2: think it was me, but I'll tell you.
- 1:58Speaker 3: That I'm sure we were both horrendous.
- 2:03Speaker 2: So you know, and I look at my kids and go, like,
- 2:06Speaker 2: you know, clean up your room, you know, and why
- 2:08Speaker 2: can't you be cleaner?
- 2:09Speaker 3: Than that. I'm pretty sure that I was no better
- 2:12Speaker 3: than that.
- 2:13Speaker 1: On the road first of four here tonight, following taking
- 2:16Speaker 1: five of six points on your home stand last week,
- 2:19Speaker 1: what went right for your group and what did you make.
- 2:22Speaker 3: Of those three games for Seattle? Uh, you know, I
- 2:26Speaker 3: I liked. I liked a lot about our game. You know,
- 2:29Speaker 3: there are certain.
- 2:30Speaker 2: Pockets in the game obviously that you you know, you're
- 2:32Speaker 2: not maybe happy with, but that's always gonna happen.
- 2:35Speaker 3: That's going to be in every game, you know. I
- 2:38Speaker 3: thought for the most.
- 2:39Speaker 2: Part, we defended pretty well, and you know, we found
- 2:45Speaker 2: a way to score some goals, which was nice to see.
- 2:48Speaker 2: We needed to and we need to continue doing.
- 2:51Speaker 3: That as we move forward.
- 2:52Speaker 2: And here tonight, you know, against a high octane offensive
- 2:55Speaker 2: hockey team, we've got to defend well.
- 2:57Speaker 1: I'm gonna say, you guys really flipped the Seattle crack
- 3:00Speaker 1: and can't score goals narrative last week. Offensively, What do
- 3:04Speaker 1: you feel led to the success that you had now
- 3:07Speaker 1: nine goals in your last two games.
- 3:10Speaker 2: Well, I think that you know, it's funny because some
- 3:15Speaker 2: nights they go in and some nights they don't, and
- 3:18Speaker 2: a lot of nights you have the same opportunities, and
- 3:21Speaker 2: you know, so it's not necessarily that you can't. It's
- 3:26Speaker 2: just some nights that they just don't go in or
- 3:28Speaker 2: you don't. And I think that, you know, overall, I
- 3:30Speaker 2: think we did a little better job of capitalizing on
- 3:33Speaker 2: our opportunities obviously, and you know, we did a better
- 3:37Speaker 2: job of having net presence.
- 3:39Speaker 3: You know, if you look at Adam Marson's goal, Marchman's
- 3:41Speaker 3: in front of the net. We have to continue to
- 3:43Speaker 3: get in.
- 3:43Speaker 2: Front of the goaltender and give ourselves a chance to
- 3:46Speaker 2: have succession by just shooting box. We talked about that,
- 3:49Speaker 2: We talked about shot volume, and we talked about shots
- 3:52Speaker 2: getting through to the net rather than getting blocked or
- 3:55Speaker 2: us taking too long to get them away and somebody
- 3:57Speaker 2: getting a stick on it.
- 3:58Speaker 3: So, you know, we have to continue do with that narrative.
- 4:01Speaker 1: Moving to tonight, joe with Decord comes off of IR
- 4:04Speaker 1: and Matt Murray not on the trip. Goldening has been
- 4:08Speaker 1: a huge reason for this team's success this season. Could
- 4:11Speaker 1: you share any updates on h Matt Murray and and
- 4:14Speaker 1: then for Joey to Cord if he does come back
- 4:17Speaker 1: in tonight or on this trip, what are you expecting
- 4:20Speaker 1: defensively to help protect him and ease him back in
- 4:22Speaker 1: the game action.
- 4:23Speaker 2: Well, we just have to play, you know, I have
- 4:25Speaker 2: to play solid in front of him, just like we
- 4:27Speaker 2: do any other night. You know, he's gonna help us.
- 4:31Speaker 2: I think he's going to help us with our breakouts
- 4:33Speaker 2: and stuff with the puck movement, you know, but we've
- 4:36Speaker 2: got to just like any other night, we talk about
- 4:39Speaker 2: creating a good environment for our goaltender and try and
- 4:41Speaker 2: keep you know, cry and keep their scoring chances, uh,
- 4:45Speaker 2: you know, at a minimal and certainly high danger ones
- 4:48Speaker 2: at a minimal, you know. And it's gonna be tough tonight,
- 4:51Speaker 2: Like I you know, I've been in this division and
- 4:54Speaker 2: this conference for a long time, and you know it's
- 4:58Speaker 2: it's a hockey team that can create opportunities. And so
- 5:01Speaker 2: we're going to be challenged tonight to you know, to
- 5:04Speaker 2: protect our goaltender, protect our NetFront. And we're going to
- 5:08Speaker 2: have to do that if we want to win the
- 5:09Speaker 2: hockey game tonight.
- 5:10Speaker 1: The Red Wings had three players with seven or more
- 5:13Speaker 1: shots their last time out against the Rangers. They're a
- 5:15Speaker 1: team that gets a very high volume of shots. What
- 5:19Speaker 1: type of problems do you think this team can present
- 5:22Speaker 1: to your group tonight.
- 5:24Speaker 2: Well, look at you know, they're doing what we talk
- 5:29Speaker 2: about doing, and that's putting pucks on that de and
- 5:32Speaker 2: what that does is, you know, it might not be
- 5:34Speaker 2: the first shot that comes in that's really a scoring chance,
- 5:38Speaker 2: but you know they're looking at seconds and thirds. So
- 5:41Speaker 2: we have to do a good job in front of
- 5:42Speaker 2: our goaltender and certainly we've got to make sure that
- 5:46Speaker 2: we don't give them an opportunity for second chances and
- 5:49Speaker 2: third chances and saying that how do you do that, Well,
- 5:55Speaker 2: you better be prepared to battle. And it's going to
- 5:57Speaker 2: be a lot of one on one battles at our
- 5:58Speaker 2: paint and we've got to get their cold temper and
- 6:00Speaker 2: get their paint as well.
