- 0:07Speaker 1: From carrying each other to a natty to carrying each other.
- 0:11Speaker 3: On the air, there's brock Control.
- 0:16Speaker 1: Live from the Raising Kine Studio.
- 0:19Speaker 4: It's off the Bench, all right, welcome back in our
- 0:59Speaker 4: number three of ot B.
- 1:01Speaker 5: Here live from the Raisin Canes studio.
- 1:03Speaker 6: It is Tuesday at nine am, so you know what
- 1:06Speaker 6: that means. We're gonna catch up with our guy Nick
- 1:09Speaker 6: Underhill New Orleans Dot Football as the Saints get ready
- 1:12Speaker 6: for ot a's Nicholas, how are we.
- 1:14Speaker 5: Doing, sir?
- 1:15Speaker 3: Doing great?
- 1:15Speaker 6: How you guys doing doing fantastic? Hopefully you had a
- 1:18Speaker 6: great Memorial Day. I don't know if you had some
- 1:20Speaker 6: time off, if you had a chance to maybe relax
- 1:22Speaker 6: a little bit with I know Ota is coming up,
- 1:24Speaker 6: but hopefully you got a chance to catch up on
- 1:27Speaker 6: some sleep or some family activities.
- 1:30Speaker 7: Yeah, it was solid, solid day, like a good six
- 1:33Speaker 7: and a half out of.
- 1:34Speaker 8: Time okay, strong, quite strong.
- 1:38Speaker 9: About mediocre? Okay, Okay, we'll take that. What's your what's
- 1:40Speaker 9: your ideal hot dog? Like if you have to dress
- 1:42Speaker 9: a hot dog, what's your ideal hot dog?
- 1:45Speaker 3: Uh, a hamburger.
- 1:49Speaker 8: Not a bad answer.
- 1:52Speaker 5: That's fair, that's fair, that's completely fair.
- 1:56Speaker 8: All right.
- 1:57Speaker 6: So before the Saints, like you know, go to Oda
- 2:00Speaker 6: and kind of look at what they have, I'm going
- 2:02Speaker 6: to ask you kind of a two part question, all right.
- 2:05Speaker 6: Then we could be positive in one and we could
- 2:07Speaker 6: be negative in the other. So give me the move
- 2:11Speaker 6: that the Saints made that make you believe they'll be
- 2:13Speaker 6: contenders in the NFC South, and then give me the
- 2:16Speaker 6: move they didn't make to make you believe they won't
- 2:20Speaker 6: be contenders in the NFC South.
- 2:23Speaker 7: I think the like the contenders in the NFC South.
- 2:26Speaker 7: Can I do it two for one because I.
- 2:27Speaker 3: Feel like they kind of go together. Yeah.
- 2:29Speaker 7: I feel like the David Edwards slash Slash eight chan
- 2:32Speaker 7: ad is massive for them. I mean, they got a
- 2:35Speaker 7: block better, They got to be able to run inside zone.
- 2:37Speaker 7: They couldn't run inside zone last year.
- 2:39Speaker 2: You know.
- 2:39Speaker 7: I think a lot of that had to do with blocking.
- 2:41Speaker 7: And then they get it back that's fit for it.
- 2:43Speaker 7: So I think that all helps. It opens up everything,
- 2:46Speaker 7: and you know the play action game, I think they've
- 2:48Speaker 7: become stronger there. So I think being able to run
- 2:51Speaker 7: the ball is going to be a huge help for them.
- 2:54Speaker 8: I mean it, you know.
- 2:55Speaker 7: I think as good as Shuck was last year, man
- 2:57Speaker 7: he was on pace like for his seventeen game average
- 2:59Speaker 7: was like forty six hundred yards or something, which guys
- 3:02Speaker 7: don't throw for that many yards anymore. But I think
- 3:05Speaker 7: giving him a running game like he even helps with
- 3:07Speaker 7: that so much more.
- 3:08Speaker 3: The move they didn't make that concerns me.
- 3:13Speaker 7: It's just like global defensively, like they had a There's
- 3:16Speaker 7: a lot of ways you look at this, and you
- 3:18Speaker 7: can get into the numbers and there's a lot of
- 3:20Speaker 7: things that suggest this was a top ten defense last year.
- 3:23Speaker 7: And I think Brendon Staley did a terrific job down
- 3:26Speaker 7: the stretch just getting the most out of these guys
- 3:28Speaker 7: and everything. But when you look at the depth chart,
- 3:30Speaker 7: it doesn't it doesn't give you a lot of hope.
- 3:34Speaker 7: There's a lot of spots where it feels like that
- 3:36Speaker 7: they could be vulnerable. I don't feel great about whether
- 3:39Speaker 7: they're at a corner. It could be okay, but it
- 3:41Speaker 7: might not be.
- 3:42Speaker 3: The no pass.
- 3:43Speaker 7: Rusher opposite Chase Young really concerns me.
- 3:46Speaker 3: Quite a bit.
- 3:48Speaker 7: It's just there's no stars on that side of the ball.
- 3:50Speaker 7: Other than Chase Young, who you know, if they win
- 3:53Speaker 7: ten games, I think is very easily and not that
- 3:55Speaker 7: Pro Bowl discussion if the team has the height. But
- 3:58Speaker 7: I just don't think they did enough on that side
- 3:59Speaker 7: of the and I could see it coming apart for them.
- 4:02Speaker 7: They were good on like a per run basis last year,
- 4:04Speaker 7: but it was on twenty yards per game.
- 4:07Speaker 3: I just don't.
- 4:08Speaker 7: I don't.
- 4:08Speaker 3: I don't feel great about where they're aut on that side.
- 4:11Speaker 9: Hmm, okay, Nick, that was kind of he kind of
- 4:15Speaker 9: answered a little bit of what my next question was.
- 4:17Speaker 8: Going to be like leading into going into the season.
- 4:20Speaker 9: The OTA's are about to start and coming off the
- 4:24Speaker 9: off season, like every team or most teams in the
- 4:27Speaker 9: entire all thirty two, they have something to be hopeful.
- 4:30Speaker 9: They everybody pretty much improved, whether those free agency or
- 4:34Speaker 9: you can at least be hopeful that you improved in
- 4:36Speaker 9: the draft. You don't really know how that's going to
- 4:38Speaker 9: pan out, but every team feels like there have been improvements,
- 4:41Speaker 9: and certainly the Saints are in that same category with
- 4:44Speaker 9: the way the season ended on kind of a hot
- 4:46Speaker 9: streak but against weaker opponents, and then what they've done
- 4:51Speaker 9: in the off seas. How hopeful should the Saints fan
- 4:54Speaker 9: base be? I think Vegas has there like over under
- 4:57Speaker 9: wind total like seven and a half? They do you
- 4:59Speaker 9: think that it's about right? Like what do you think
- 5:01Speaker 9: the ceiling is or could be for this tame?
- 5:05Speaker 7: Seven and a half feels like a good number, Like
- 5:08Speaker 7: I'm always and I think when you're looking at it
- 5:11Speaker 7: too closely, you tend to always look at things through
- 5:13Speaker 7: the prism of like how things are going to work
- 5:15Speaker 7: out instead of like what if these twelve things go wrong?
- 5:18Speaker 7: And Vegas is always right on the twelve things that
- 5:20Speaker 7: end up going wrong. Like I feel like if I
- 5:23Speaker 7: was in the line, I'd probably be a game higher.
- 5:26Speaker 7: And you know, a couple of things go right, and
- 5:27Speaker 7: I think they could easily be a ten win team.
- 5:29Speaker 7: I see an offense that looks like it should be
- 5:31Speaker 7: really good. I mean they added a ton of speed
- 5:35Speaker 7: to it. You know, Noah fan doesn't get talked about
- 5:37Speaker 7: a lot. I think that's a nice speed element. Delp
- 5:39Speaker 7: is a good speed element at tight end. Jordan Tyson,
- 5:42Speaker 7: I think obviously takes them to another level. They get
- 5:44Speaker 7: it a home run hitter running back a chance had
- 5:48Speaker 7: like twelve thirty yard runs in the same span that
- 5:51Speaker 7: the Saints have had one. I mean, like, so I
- 5:53Speaker 7: think just things like that or since since twenty twenty two. Yeah,
- 5:58Speaker 7: and there one was estimate it was orodric estime last
- 6:02Speaker 7: year was the one thirty yard run.
- 6:04Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 6:04Speaker 7: So I think offensively they should be really good and
- 6:07Speaker 7: that you know, I think their line should be really
- 6:08Speaker 7: good with the addition to Edwards. It's just it's that
- 6:12Speaker 7: defense side that that kind of worries me a little bit.
- 6:14Speaker 7: But I think people should be optimistic overall. Like let's
- 6:17Speaker 7: say they end up around seven. I think it would
- 6:21Speaker 7: probably be an optimistic seven, though. I think there's a
- 6:23Speaker 7: lot of stuff going the right direction so long as
- 6:26Speaker 7: Tyler Shuck isn't smoking mirrors. But I think we're so
- 6:28Speaker 7: far beyond that. I think he's a He's a viable
- 6:31Speaker 7: NFL starter. It's just a matter of where he ranks
- 6:33Speaker 7: in that top twenty. But I think he's already proven
- 6:37Speaker 7: that he can play. I think I think I believe
- 6:39Speaker 7: in him. A reason for optimism is just kind of
- 6:41Speaker 7: how he carried himself this offseason. Two was just here
- 6:44Speaker 7: the whole time lived here, was at the facility every
- 6:47Speaker 7: single day except for like five days after his child
- 6:51Speaker 7: was born.
- 6:52Speaker 3: I was told, you.
- 6:53Speaker 7: Know, I think like a real leader, like really building
- 6:55Speaker 7: the culture. And another thing I'm optimistic about too, is
- 6:58Speaker 7: just kind of the way this team handled the lows
- 7:00Speaker 7: last year. Like we were around teams man the Kubiak year.
- 7:04Speaker 7: They win those first two games and hopes are extremely high,
- 7:08Speaker 7: and then they lose to and you just felt that
- 7:10Speaker 7: whole entire team shatter, like there was something toxic in
- 7:13Speaker 7: the water, like you you know, there's just they were
- 7:16Speaker 7: just waiting to shatter. This was the team I had
- 7:18Speaker 7: every reason to shatter through the first eight nine weeks
- 7:20Speaker 7: the last season and didn't. So I just think, you know,
- 7:24Speaker 7: being a younger team building it that way, kind of
- 7:27Speaker 7: having this new fresh start, I think is a reason
- 7:29Speaker 7: for optimism too. Like nobody's jaded here right now, Like
- 7:32Speaker 7: they all feel like they're heading the right direction, and
- 7:34Speaker 7: you know, I think that can carry you. You know,
- 7:37Speaker 7: if if that Kubiak season, I think it happened earlier
- 7:40Speaker 7: in DA's tenure, like they might have bounced back from that,
- 7:42Speaker 7: but it was just crazy how quickly like everybody turned
- 7:46Speaker 7: right then. So I just kind of think just being
- 7:49Speaker 7: being at a new start is extremely beneficial for them too.
- 7:52Speaker 7: So I don't know, it's tough for me to see
- 7:54Speaker 7: a scenario where we're sitting here in January, like, oh man,
- 7:58Speaker 7: Like I just I can't believe everything went like that.
- 8:01Speaker 7: It feels it feels like those reasons for optimism and
- 8:04Speaker 7: it feels like it's having the right reaction.
- 8:06Speaker 9: Is the you talked about Tyler Shuck and you don't
- 8:09Speaker 9: think it's smoking mirror? So do you really do you
- 8:11Speaker 9: think based on you know, watching the film, You've watched
- 8:13Speaker 9: the film, probably more than more than most. A lot
- 8:18Speaker 9: of success down the stretch again, a little bit weaker
- 8:21Speaker 9: of a schedule to in the season. Do you think
- 8:25Speaker 9: that based on the film, like that is something that
- 8:28Speaker 9: can that can be there, that type of performance, that
- 8:31Speaker 9: level of play for seventeen games for a full time starter,
- 8:36Speaker 9: Because I mean, we think so, But I think the
- 8:38Speaker 9: Saints were also a positioned to like kind of get
- 8:40Speaker 9: overly hyped like that the first sign of anything good.
- 8:43Speaker 8: A little bit of overreaction. Do you think it's an overaction?
- 8:46Speaker 9: Do you, like legit, think that Tyler Shuck could be
- 8:48Speaker 9: that dude for a long time?
- 8:50Speaker 7: Well, look if he if he isn't like I think
- 8:53Speaker 7: they need to, you know, I think they have a
- 8:55Speaker 7: massive problem. I mean, you put all this stuff around
- 8:57Speaker 7: him and it doesn't work. I mean you're kind of
- 9:00Speaker 7: you're probably looking at it, like if he's not good,
- 9:02Speaker 7: let's say they're way below that seven games. Let's say
- 9:04Speaker 7: they win four games, five games, Like, I think you're
- 9:07Speaker 7: in the quarterback market again, Like.
- 9:09Speaker 3: I think that's where you would end up. I do
- 9:11Speaker 3: believe in.
- 9:11Speaker 7: Him, though, man, Like it's just a matter of is
- 9:14Speaker 7: he top twenty, is he top fifteen? Is he top ten?
- 9:19Speaker 7: Like you know, where does he where does he fall
- 9:21Speaker 7: in that? And that, you know, the hierarchy of quarterbacks.
- 9:24Speaker 7: But there's a lot of stuff that I think, you know,
- 9:26Speaker 7: you can put numbers on it that I think paint
- 9:28Speaker 7: a very positive picture, like just isolating Chris Olave's targets
- 9:33Speaker 7: shuck through to him with like a foot less of
- 9:36Speaker 7: throwing window per average on throws, which means he's not
- 9:40Speaker 7: a okay see it throw at quarterback like he's thrown
- 9:43Speaker 7: with the anticipation. We saw that the whole time, the
- 9:45Speaker 7: third and the third and eight and longer. Last year,
- 9:48Speaker 7: he had the best quarterback rating in the NFL during
- 9:50Speaker 7: his fan as a starter, like yeah, weaker opponents, but
- 9:53Speaker 7: like he's rising to the moment in these tough downs,
- 9:55Speaker 7: in these tough situations, which I think allows you to
- 9:58Speaker 7: look at him as if he could be elevator of
- 10:01Speaker 7: a team. But yeah, weaker schedule, small sample half a season.
- 10:06Speaker 7: People are gonna spend an offseason looking at him. You know,
- 10:09Speaker 7: people aren't going to be sleeping on the Saints at all,
- 10:12Speaker 7: like people, you know, I think there's a lot of
- 10:14Speaker 7: stuff that you that you have to continue to prove.
- 10:15Speaker 7: We've seen a ton of guys have small windows. The
- 10:18Speaker 7: one thing I like about him though, is that you know,
- 10:20Speaker 7: it's nine games and it's not the Josh jobs for
- 10:22Speaker 7: you know, like a lot of guys don't last the
- 10:25Speaker 7: eight nine games, and there's positivity at the end of it.
- 10:29Speaker 7: But I like the way he carries himself too, looking
- 10:31Speaker 7: the other thing too, like the sophomore swamping, all that stuff.
- 10:34Speaker 7: I think the fact that he's twenty seven, twenty eight
- 10:36Speaker 7: years old kind of helps put him on the other
- 10:37Speaker 7: side of that.
- 10:38Speaker 3: It's not Hey, I'm twenty two.
- 10:40Speaker 7: And I have millions of dollars in a little bit
- 10:42Speaker 7: of fame and I'm going to go crazy like he's
- 10:44Speaker 7: twenty seven, he has a kid, like he's he's you know, living,
- 10:47Speaker 7: but I don't want to say where he's living. But
- 10:49Speaker 7: you know, he's not living in the city, like he's
- 10:51Speaker 7: living where he doesn't have a lot of neighbors. So like,
- 10:53Speaker 7: I just think the way he carries himself is is
- 10:56Speaker 7: is a plus. You know, he's he just feels settled
- 11:00Speaker 7: in a way that I think maybe you know, a
- 11:02Speaker 7: twenty two.
- 11:03Speaker 3: Year old wouldn't.
- 11:03Speaker 7: So I'm not as worried about like the slumping stuff
- 11:06Speaker 7: with him either.
- 11:07Speaker 9: I'll answer my own question and add on to yours,
- 11:10Speaker 9: is that I've also invested in some Tyler Shuke rookie cards.
- 11:13Speaker 6: So that's how I think. All right, that's how I
- 11:15Speaker 6: fin There you go. You're heavily, heavily invested. I believe, no,
- 11:22Speaker 6: I know you should. It is wild, like all jokes aside,
- 11:26Speaker 6: and obviously Nick Underhill's our guest who joined us every Tuesday,
- 11:28Speaker 6: and Nick, you cover the Saints, but you're also objective
- 11:32Speaker 6: in what you see. It has been wild to hear
- 11:35Speaker 6: some of the second year quarterback conversation between Tyler Shuck
- 11:39Speaker 6: and Cam Woard and Jackson Dart and Shador Sanders and
- 11:43Speaker 6: still people don't realize what Tyler Shuck did a year ago.
- 11:47Speaker 6: And I know the Saints didn't have a great year,
- 11:49Speaker 6: and I know we're close to it, but what he
- 11:52Speaker 6: did last year, what he was on pace to do,
- 11:54Speaker 6: And again, I don't want to be disrespectful, but it's
- 11:57Speaker 6: just the facts. He was throwing to uber drivers at
- 11:59Speaker 6: the end of the year. I'm just kind of surprised
- 12:02Speaker 6: shocked that people aren't giving themselves over to what Tyler
- 12:05Speaker 6: Shuck can be in this season.
- 12:09Speaker 7: It might surprise you that a lot of people that
- 12:10Speaker 7: like talk about football don't watch a lot of football.
- 12:14Speaker 3: You just kind of see this stuff man.
- 12:17Speaker 7: Like it's the truth though, Like some of these like
- 12:19Speaker 7: quarterback listening, that's like you didn't, you aren't You aren't
- 12:21Speaker 7: really watching all these people, Like you're just kind of
- 12:23Speaker 7: ranking these guys based on PFF grades and you know
- 12:26Speaker 7: all this stuff, but like if you were actually watching them,
- 12:29Speaker 7: man Like, I just don't know, I don't. It feels
- 12:33Speaker 7: like there's buzz out there, but it doesn't feel like
- 12:34Speaker 7: there's enough at the same time, Like one primetime game
- 12:37Speaker 7: is kind of crazy to me, Like what did Jackson
- 12:39Speaker 7: Dark do to get for Like, I understand that New
- 12:41Speaker 7: York has the plus and there's going to always be
- 12:44Speaker 7: a little bit more hype around New York and what's
- 12:47Speaker 7: going on with the Giants, but like what makes them
- 12:49Speaker 7: four times more appealing than the Saints at this point?
- 12:52Speaker 3: I mean, it just doesn't make sense to me.
- 12:54Speaker 7: So look, that's fine though, Like you can go out there,
- 12:57Speaker 7: you can prove it, and he can shut everyone up.
- 12:59Speaker 7: And you know, because I'm a bit of a mission
- 13:00Speaker 7: a little bit of a chip on the shoulder, and
- 13:03Speaker 7: you know, I think he's the type of guy that
- 13:05Speaker 7: those things are good fuel for him.
- 13:07Speaker 3: You know, he's kind of got a little bit of.
- 13:08Speaker 7: That that edge and the you know a little bit
- 13:10Speaker 7: of that that quiet after world type stuff to him.
- 13:13Speaker 3: So I like that he has that fuel.
- 13:15Speaker 7: But yeah, I agree, man, Like it's kind of it's
- 13:18Speaker 7: kind of crazy, but I mean, look, pull up any
- 13:21Speaker 7: any quarterback power ranking article and like the blurbond check
- 13:24Speaker 7: is kind of like for real, like did you actually
- 13:26Speaker 7: sit down and study these games?
- 13:28Speaker 3: And you know a lot of times I think the
- 13:29Speaker 3: answer is no, Right.
- 13:31Speaker 9: All right, Nick, what do you what's your schedule like
- 13:34Speaker 9: for OTAs what's your day to day going to be,
- 13:36Speaker 9: Like what are you going to be looking for writing about?
- 13:39Speaker 5: Like how do you approach these OTAs?
- 13:43Speaker 7: Yeah, Thursday is the first day we're allowed out there,
- 13:45Speaker 7: so we get one a week for the next three weeks,
- 13:47Speaker 7: and then they have usually there's three mini camp practices,
- 13:51Speaker 7: but I think they're only going to do too like
- 13:52Speaker 7: probably do a team bonding or something on the third day,
- 13:55Speaker 7: which we saw they like to do last year. You know,
- 13:58Speaker 7: you go out there and you tell yourself, I'm not
- 14:01Speaker 7: going to overhype everything I see on the first day
- 14:03Speaker 7: of practice, and then you sit down in your computer
- 14:05Speaker 7: at the person you everything you saw, Yeah, you over
- 14:08Speaker 7: have everything you saw on there. You annoint someone like
- 14:11Speaker 7: Corey Fuller as you know, a possibility of making the team,
- 14:14Speaker 7: and then you know, August fifteenth comes and you realize
- 14:18Speaker 7: how dumb that was.
- 14:20Speaker 3: Harris. There's just so many of them over over time.
- 14:23Speaker 7: But yeah, like you know, I think what I'm looking
- 14:26Speaker 7: for is just kind of yeah, I just want to
- 14:29Speaker 7: see how the timing is with the offense. I want
- 14:31Speaker 7: to see where where they're kind of settling in right away,
- 14:33Speaker 7: you know, put eyes on Jordan Tyson actually catching passes
- 14:36Speaker 7: from you know, a real quarterback as opposed to kind
- 14:39Speaker 7: of what they had out there at rookie camp.
- 14:42Speaker 3: We haven't seen eight chan yet.
- 14:44Speaker 7: David Edwards, like, I'm eager to see like Chase Young
- 14:46Speaker 7: and just what another off season and work did for him.
- 14:49Speaker 7: Like that's someone like as you're looking at the optimism thing,
- 14:53Speaker 7: he was like a completely different person last year, Like
- 14:56Speaker 7: something clipped for him. And you know, I hate doing
- 15:00Speaker 7: in this, but like even watching like the little videos
- 15:02Speaker 7: they put out of like the workouts and stuff, like
- 15:04Speaker 7: he's the guy hyping people up. It kind of seems
- 15:06Speaker 7: like maybe he understands he's got to step into that
- 15:09Speaker 7: that leadership area. And if he does, man like that
- 15:12Speaker 7: guy has everything to be like a dominant player in
- 15:16Speaker 7: the league.
- 15:16Speaker 3: And I think we're starting to see it come together.
- 15:18Speaker 7: If there's another step there, I mean, that would be
- 15:20Speaker 7: a really exciting thing for them.
- 15:21Speaker 3: But look, the tight.
- 15:23Speaker 7: Ends are kind of the other thing that I really
- 15:26Speaker 7: want to see, Like the speed at that position, Like
- 15:27Speaker 7: what's it?
- 15:28Speaker 3: What's it?
- 15:28Speaker 7: Look Like I covered the Patriots, but when they did
- 15:32Speaker 7: the uh the Gronk and Hernandez thing, and and you know,
- 15:35Speaker 7: kind of seeing how that transformed them. Like you saw
- 15:37Speaker 7: like right away in those practices like the speed and
- 15:40Speaker 7: the difference and you know all that stuff. Uh, you
- 15:43Speaker 7: saw a lot of what was transforming the Patriots. Maybe
- 15:45Speaker 7: not all of it at that position, but yeah, I mean,
- 15:48Speaker 7: like some of some of the stuff popped right away,
- 15:50Speaker 7: and uh, I'm just excited to see what it looks
- 15:52Speaker 7: like for for the Saints. There's just like a lot
- 15:54Speaker 7: of talent there, man, Like, so I think that that's
- 15:56Speaker 7: where my eyes are going to go right away.
- 15:58Speaker 3: Uh, you know, it's passing camp, so that is kind
- 16:01Speaker 3: of the place to look.
- 16:02Speaker 7: But like Kool Aiden and Qussy Riley too, I think
- 16:05Speaker 7: are two huge keys going back to the first thing
- 16:07Speaker 7: we were talking about, like reasons for hoping and pessimism.
- 16:10Speaker 7: If there's gonna be hope on that defense, Like both
- 16:13Speaker 7: those guys got gotta keep going. I really like the
- 16:15Speaker 7: way kol Aid finished the season last year. But I
- 16:18Speaker 7: think that's the position where if you were you know, hey,
- 16:20Speaker 7: look they fall under the Vegas line, Like where are
- 16:22Speaker 7: you drafting them in the first round next year? I
- 16:24Speaker 7: think I think cornerback would be right at the top
- 16:26Speaker 7: of that list. Is one of those things that as
- 16:29Speaker 7: of today, if you had to project it, you'd probably
- 16:31Speaker 7: be looking.
- 16:31Speaker 6: For it all right, Last one, Nick, and we always
- 16:34Speaker 6: appreciate the time. Outside of Jordan Tyson, give me the
- 16:38Speaker 6: rookie player that could take over for a veteran player
- 16:42Speaker 6: before the season kicks off, not into the season, but
- 16:45Speaker 6: the rookie player outside of Jordan Tyson that could be
- 16:48Speaker 6: a starter from game number one on this team.
- 16:51Speaker 3: I mean, it's not gonna happen.
- 16:54Speaker 7: Like maybe at some point later in the season, like
- 16:57Speaker 7: Jeremiah right, maybe like Jason Miller.
- 17:00Speaker 3: Christian Miller would.
- 17:01Speaker 7: Probably be my pick for a guy over God Child,
- 17:03Speaker 7: like I could see him taking that job from him.
- 17:05Speaker 6: Do you think he'll play nose or do you think
- 17:06Speaker 6: he'll play in and like Brian BRAZI might need to worry.
- 17:11Speaker 7: I think he'd probably be on the nose. That would
- 17:14Speaker 7: probably be my guess. Look, Xavian Harris too, like if
- 17:17Speaker 7: he gets if he gets held, like, that's that's an
- 17:20Speaker 7: interesting battle. I think just you know that that first
- 17:23Speaker 7: down role, like overall, a lot of guys there and
- 17:26Speaker 7: you bring in two behind him. Xavian Harris man like
- 17:28Speaker 7: I seen him, he had the walking boot on. I
- 17:31Speaker 7: mean that is a giant in a room of giants,
- 17:33Speaker 7: like you watch in the room and like you just
- 17:35Speaker 7: kind of he's different. So that that's the one I'm
- 17:39Speaker 7: looking at too. I think, like right right, just needs
- 17:45Speaker 7: a lot of work, but like there's a lot of
- 17:46Speaker 7: potential there when I watch him, Like I feel a
- 17:49Speaker 7: little bit differently about him as some of the Scotting reports.
- 17:51Speaker 7: I think I think that there's a little bit of
- 17:53Speaker 7: a runway there, but there's definitely a possibility if he
- 17:57Speaker 7: starts to take off, Like that's the spot where I
- 17:58Speaker 7: think they would want to guy to to emerge too,
- 18:00Speaker 7: maybe so it'd be interesting, but like he'd have to
- 18:03Speaker 7: beat down Raidens to who I'm kind of high on
- 18:06Speaker 7: in that that you know, six six o line role.
- 18:09Speaker 7: But yeah, I think those would be Christian Miller would
- 18:12Speaker 7: be my pick.
- 18:12Speaker 8: For that one.
- 18:13Speaker 5: I like that one.
- 18:14Speaker 6: I think he's a player, certainly has a very high ceiling.
- 18:17Speaker 6: All right, Nick Underhill, new Or's stuff football joins us
- 18:19Speaker 6: every single Tuesday, Nicholas, We appreciate the time, sir.
- 18:22Speaker 3: Yeah, take these guys.
- 18:26Speaker 5: Always loved always.
- 18:28Speaker 6: I like I looked forward to to OTAs just to
- 18:31Speaker 6: see that, like what the team was going to look
- 18:33Speaker 6: like for the first time and get the rookies out there,
- 18:36Speaker 6: the new free agent signings. Not by the time you
- 18:38Speaker 6: get to training camp you're like, oh my god, m fun.
- 18:40Speaker 6: But ots were fun, laid back.
- 18:42Speaker 8: It's way more laid back.
- 18:45Speaker 9: You remember your first OTAs it's like, Wow, I was
- 18:49Speaker 9: just saying Nick Saban and Les Miles training camps and prices,
- 18:53Speaker 9: this is way, this is way easier. This is actually
- 18:56Speaker 9: pretty chill. Besides, like Charles Woodson picking me off like
- 18:59Speaker 9: three times a day.
- 19:00Speaker 8: Yeah, it was funny.
- 19:01Speaker 6: You get you get a little bit I don't want
- 19:03Speaker 6: to say starstruck, but kind of.
- 19:05Speaker 10: I'm in the hut on like lt right next to me.
- 19:08Speaker 10: I got a block for him. He's a Hall of Famer,
- 19:11Speaker 10: no doubt. There's Antonio Gates. So but it's fun. I
- 19:15Speaker 10: enjoyed OT's.
- 19:16Speaker 5: It was laid back. It was just like, hey, here's
- 19:19Speaker 5: what we are, here's what we're going to be.
- 19:21Speaker 6: Let's start the slow process of building to it. It
- 19:24Speaker 6: wasn't like the dog cussing and everything had to be
- 19:28Speaker 6: full speed from the very get go like it was
- 19:30Speaker 6: in college.
- 19:30Speaker 8: Yeah, that was fun though.
- 19:31Speaker 9: Yeah, you're in the hud looking over and it was
- 19:33Speaker 9: like Charles Woodson then like I'm calling to play and
- 19:35Speaker 9: it's like Donald Driver was like there and I'm like, eh.
- 19:40Speaker 8: Donald Driver watching this guy for a while.
- 19:42Speaker 6: Yeah, Greg Jennings on this seems yeah, Greg Jennys, Yeah,
- 19:46Speaker 6: he put the.
- 19:46Speaker 5: Team on his back.
- 19:47Speaker 6: If you know, you know, all right, we will take
- 19:49Speaker 6: a break more OTB. Actually hold up, let's do this
- 19:53Speaker 6: because we missed yesterday. Let's get a little weekend winners
- 19:58Speaker 6: when we come back here.
- 20:01Speaker 1: Off the Bench, Off the Bench with Jacob Hester and
- 20:10Speaker 1: Matt Flynn. Tuesday Show presented by Community Seal.

- 21:21Speaker 3: That's how win it has done.
- 21:23Speaker 2: That's right.
- 21:24Speaker 8: We can't have anyone to freak out out there. Okay,
- 21:26Speaker 8: he's got a k bark apologer, got too far.
- 21:30Speaker 3: I'm by winning.
- 21:32Speaker 8: I went here and I win there. Now, what are
- 21:34Speaker 8: you doing what it takes to win a championship?
- 21:38Speaker 2: Wow?
- 21:39Speaker 8: Winning? Well, then I guess there's only one thing left
- 21:42Speaker 8: to do.
- 21:44Speaker 11: What's that.
- 21:47Speaker 3: Win the whole thing?
- 21:52Speaker 2: All right?
- 21:52Speaker 5: My first weekend winner is the New York Nicks. That's right.
- 21:59Speaker 5: And how did you become a Knicks fan?
- 22:00Speaker 6: Well, remember, we didn't have the Pelicans here in Louisiana
- 22:04Speaker 6: when I was growing up, and so and even the
- 22:06Speaker 6: Mavericks were kind of a new franchise at the time,
- 22:09Speaker 6: and so they were the closest, but that didn't matter.
- 22:11Speaker 6: So there was a lot of people my age that
- 22:14Speaker 6: were going to be Bulls fans because of WGM, because
- 22:17Speaker 6: of MJ. There was some Laker fans as well, but
- 22:20Speaker 6: I decided to go with John Starks and Patrick Ewing
- 22:23Speaker 6: and Charles Oakley and Anthony Mason and NAT.
- 22:26Speaker 5: Crew that fit more of my style.
- 22:28Speaker 6: And so I've been following the Knicks ever since the
- 22:31Speaker 6: early nineties, and it's been a lot of bad.
- 22:34Speaker 5: It's been some good, but it's been mostly bad.
- 22:36Speaker 6: Last time they made the NBA Finals was nineteen ninety nine,
- 22:40Speaker 6: so I was fourteen years old the last time they
- 22:43Speaker 6: made the NBA Finals. How old were you, Landra in
- 22:46Speaker 6: nineteen ninety nine?
- 22:47Speaker 10: One?
- 22:48Speaker 5: Taylor, how were you in nineteen ninety nine?
- 22:50Speaker 11: Three?
- 22:51Speaker 5: You were fourteen, Matt, We're the same age. I know
- 22:52Speaker 5: the answer to that one.
- 22:54Speaker 6: Things that did not exist the last time the Knicks
- 22:56Speaker 6: were in the NBA finals iPhone, book, Instagram, YouTube, Twitter, Tesla, SpaceX, Bitcoin, Gmail, Amazon, Prime,
- 23:07Speaker 6: Google Maps, Netflix, Android Chat, GPT, WhatsApp, TikTok, Snapchat, xbox, Pinterest, LinkedIn, iPad, Uber, Airbnb, Reddit, Spotify,
- 23:18Speaker 6: and zoom. Just to name a couple New York knickerbockers
- 23:22Speaker 6: going to the NBA Final.
- 23:24Speaker 9: Baby Let's Go also things that didn't exist every single
- 23:28Speaker 9: one of Vellashue student athletes.
- 23:31Speaker 11: Yeah, wells had a.
- 23:34Speaker 5: Couple of players, probably one, maybe two.
- 23:37Speaker 9: Yeah, a couple of players. I's also see the Shacks
- 23:40Speaker 9: coming back to play. I saw that post. Yeah, I
- 23:43Speaker 9: did saw that post.
- 23:44Speaker 6: Absolutely, come on shock, come on down, well excepted with
- 23:46Speaker 6: open arms, I mean Friday in red shirt.
- 23:49Speaker 8: So all right, we can winner.
- 23:54Speaker 9: Let's go to racing Indy five hundred this past weeken
- 23:57Speaker 9: I don't even really know how to pronounce his last name,
- 24:00Speaker 9: but Felix Rosenfest I nail that.
- 24:04Speaker 11: Sure.
- 24:04Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 24:04Speaker 9: He won it in the closest Indy five hundred in
- 24:09Speaker 9: the history of the race, winning the race by point
- 24:12Speaker 9: zero two three three seconds. That's pretty pretty tight margin
- 24:16Speaker 9: right there when you're going like two hundred miles an hour.
- 24:19Speaker 9: And there was also seventy lead changes. He took the
- 24:22Speaker 9: lead right on the final lap, wins in dramatic form
- 24:27Speaker 9: seventy lead changes, which is an all time record at
- 24:29Speaker 9: the Indy five hundred, which is incredible and just kind
- 24:32Speaker 9: of a week in winter like four the Indy five
- 24:34Speaker 9: hundred in general, a lot of beautiful tributes to Kyle
- 24:38Speaker 9: Busch on the heels A lot of emotion in the
- 24:42Speaker 9: racing community and the racing family, and a lot of
- 24:46Speaker 9: really nice things were said done, and a lot of
- 24:48Speaker 9: tributes made to him as well in the NASCAR world
- 24:51Speaker 9: of course, but also in the Indy five hundred.
- 24:53Speaker 8: Just in the race and family.
- 24:54Speaker 9: But shout out and in a purse that I think
- 24:57Speaker 9: it's the biggest one in history of the purse for
- 24:59Speaker 9: all the drivers over thirty million. Oh my gosh, dialas
- 25:04Speaker 9: I think the winner got for just over four million.
- 25:06Speaker 8: That's insane the win. So you know, shout out.
- 25:10Speaker 9: It's pretty amazing that erase that is that far and
- 25:14Speaker 9: that long, it has the history that it does, that
- 25:18Speaker 9: the closest one ever.
- 25:20Speaker 8: Yeah, finished this past weekend, so very cool.
- 25:23Speaker 2: Shout out, uh weekend winner for me, I'm gonna go
- 25:27Speaker 2: Mississippi State softball just because it's their first time heading
- 25:31Speaker 2: to the Women's College World Series and it's just a
- 25:36Speaker 2: lot of first form Mississippi State here and Oklahoma, so
- 25:39Speaker 2: first time Oklahoma has missed the Women's College World Series
- 25:42Speaker 2: since twenty fifteen, so a decade. And they were also
- 25:48Speaker 2: shut out for the first time since twenty nineteen, snapped
- 25:53Speaker 2: a streak of three hundred and ninety nine straight games,
- 25:56Speaker 2: scoring at least once, and that was done by junior
- 26:00Speaker 2: Delaney Everett and it was actually her first career start
- 26:03Speaker 2: that she shut out the Oklahoma Sooners.
- 26:06Speaker 6: Uh.
- 26:06Speaker 2: Mississippi State head coach Samantha Ricketts played under Patty Gasso
- 26:10Speaker 2: from two thousand and six to two thousand and nine,
- 26:12Speaker 2: so she's the first former player to beat to beat
- 26:17Speaker 2: Patty Gasso, especially one to beat her in the tournament championship.
- 26:21Speaker 2: So just an incredible feat by Mississippi State. Happy for
- 26:26Speaker 2: them that they get to go to their first Women's
- 26:28Speaker 2: College World Series. Like regardless, obviously like wish Elas was
- 26:32Speaker 2: in the same position, but that's just a cool, incredible
- 26:36Speaker 2: thing for Mississippi State and to beat the top dog
- 26:40Speaker 2: in the sport that has held that spot for a decade,
- 26:44Speaker 2: over a decade, good for them. We can winners for
- 26:47Speaker 2: me in Mississippi State's softball.
- 26:49Speaker 12: It's wild to think that's their first time, right because
- 26:52Speaker 12: like they they've had their moments, that's yeah, well that's why.
- 26:55Speaker 5: I mean, there's been multiple years the entire leagues made
- 26:58Speaker 5: the postseason.
- 26:59Speaker 12: Yeah, right, we can win it for me, just because
- 27:02Speaker 12: I found this kind of funny it actually happened. Thursday evening,
- 27:05Speaker 12: Northern Iowa announced their Hall of Fame class Kurt Warner,
- 27:09Speaker 12: and Kurt Warner gets.
- 27:11Speaker 11: In in the class of twenty twenty six. That's the
- 27:14Speaker 11: only one I knew ten years.
- 27:16Speaker 12: It took him ten years longer to get into the
- 27:20Speaker 12: Northern Iowa Hall of Fame than it did the NFL
- 27:24Speaker 12: Hall of Fame.
- 27:24Speaker 11: He's been in the NFL Hall of Fame for ten years.
- 27:26Speaker 12: So look, Northern Iowa, they got a pretty stringent process
- 27:31Speaker 12: for their Hall of Fame, apparently eight members in that class.
- 27:34Speaker 11: But I mean, it's just wow.
- 27:35Speaker 12: Like, obviously Warner won a Super Bowl, played for two
- 27:38Speaker 12: others in that twelve year career, and the fact that
- 27:41Speaker 12: it's a lot easier to get into the NFL Hall
- 27:43Speaker 12: of Fame than it is the UNI Hall of Fame.
- 27:46Speaker 12: Kind of funny there. But shout out Kurt Warner finally
- 27:49Speaker 12: in his Alma Maters Hall of Fame.
- 27:51Speaker 5: Than shut out Kurt Kirk.
- 27:53Speaker 6: Hey, he's in a day Hall of Fame. I mean
- 27:56Speaker 6: multiple now, I mean, you and I we've talked about it.
- 28:00Speaker 6: L h s A a Hall of Fame, Like I see, guys,
- 28:03Speaker 6: I'm like, wait a minute, what they weren't player of
- 28:05Speaker 6: the year, not bitter about it at all, and win
- 28:09Speaker 6: multiple state championships.
- 28:11Speaker 8: Team sport buds. Yeah, you didn't do anything.
- 28:14Speaker 6: I have won Player of the Year in five A
- 28:16Speaker 6: over Ali Brusard. You know how I know that because
- 28:19Speaker 6: it's the first thing that that Ali said to me
- 28:21Speaker 6: when I met him at.
- 28:22Speaker 11: L and I met Ally's in it, isn't he?
- 28:25Speaker 5: He probably didn't.
- 28:27Speaker 6: I first time I meet my guy, and I love Ali.
- 28:32Speaker 6: He's like, man, they robbed me a player of the year.
- 28:34Speaker 6: My senior like, nice to meet year.
- 28:37Speaker 3: Man.
- 28:38Speaker 5: What's up?
- 28:39Speaker 8: You're right? You're probably right, though, No, he wasn't right.
- 28:44Speaker 6: We did it against Texas and Louisian teams and South
- 28:47Speaker 6: Carolina teams in Mississippi.
- 28:50Speaker 5: I think you played multipoint that year. Maybe I don't know.
- 28:55Speaker 8: I don't have energy for that long.
- 28:56Speaker 5: View, No, Tyler Lee, because scared.
- 29:01Speaker 8: No, we just played a different brand of football than
- 29:04Speaker 8: y'all did. Now we're a little too scared to change.
- 29:06Speaker 6: Had a different brand than anybody did, to be fair
- 29:08Speaker 6: the other forty United States. True, we did play it
- 29:12Speaker 6: at Longview that year, didn't we Maybe I don't know.
- 29:15Speaker 9: I don't remember it didn't really matter a long view
- 29:21Speaker 9: when as goes us, who when the district your senior year.
- 29:24Speaker 8: We won it?
- 29:25Speaker 11: You did?
- 29:26Speaker 3: Yeah, bro a boy?
- 29:30Speaker 8: You think just like getting third team honorable mention the district.
- 29:33Speaker 5: It's just like for.
- 29:34Speaker 8: Nothing, that's true.
- 29:35Speaker 13: Just gave it to him, just to give it to him.
- 29:38Speaker 5: Fourteen district.
- 29:39Speaker 11: Yeah, quarterback the district champs. So I mean it's basically Johnny.
- 29:44Speaker 13: Moxon literally an honorable mention.
- 29:49Speaker 8: Someone say, you'd rather that than first team because there's
- 29:52Speaker 8: more honor in it.
- 29:53Speaker 11: Yeah, and hey, you still made the old district team and.
- 29:59Speaker 9: One district so a couple more patches than the other
- 30:03Speaker 9: guys on the letter jackets like that, that first team
- 30:07Speaker 9: all district quarterback, he's never gotten over it.
- 30:09Speaker 6: Do we feel about letterman jackets like for high school
- 30:13Speaker 6: letterman jackets, like they're retired after you leave high school?
- 30:16Speaker 5: Yeah, I've never about it, right, I know that you
- 30:19Speaker 5: wear it for the last time.
- 30:21Speaker 13: I don't even think I've wore it in high school.
- 30:23Speaker 5: Right, But it feels like so I don't know if
- 30:26Speaker 5: you'll have noticed this, Like L s U.
- 30:28Speaker 6: Letterman like they're starting to wear them like their letterman
- 30:31Speaker 6: jack I don't remember anybody wearing their letterman jackets like
- 30:34Speaker 6: an L letterman.
- 30:35Speaker 5: They're they're sharp.
- 30:36Speaker 6: I like them a lot, but it's become a thing
- 30:38Speaker 6: like where they wear the current athletes wearing. But I've
- 30:42Speaker 6: also seen former athletes wear them two events now almost
- 30:45Speaker 6: like if it's a dresser event to put them.
- 30:47Speaker 8: On your jacket, like or something I wore. I've worn
- 30:51Speaker 8: my L.
- 30:52Speaker 9: S U letter jacket one time, and that was like
- 30:55Speaker 9: two years ago to an eighties themed dress up party
- 30:59Speaker 9: and I was trying to I was I wasn't teen wolf,
- 31:02Speaker 9: but I was another guy that wore his letter jacket
- 31:04Speaker 9: and had a mullet situation.
- 31:05Speaker 8: That was the only time I.
- 31:06Speaker 5: Was a time there's a dress up the mullet to
- 31:10Speaker 5: the mullet.
- 31:10Speaker 8: So well, it's kind of all I got.
- 31:12Speaker 11: Like I don't have a lot of like.
- 31:15Speaker 9: A lot of different wigs or costumes. I do have
- 31:19Speaker 9: that mullet, and this kind of sits in my closet.
- 31:21Speaker 9: So I did I wore the letter jacket because I
