Latest / Early Edition with Ryan Bridge / Ryan Bridge: No queues means trust in fuel plan
Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: There's a lot of hand ringing this week about the
- 0:02Speaker 1: fuel situation, and to be fear, some of the hand
- 0:04Speaker 1: ringing is actually justified. If you're running an airline, it's bad.
- 0:08Speaker 1: If you're paying big Bucks to fill a truck with diesel,
- 0:11Speaker 1: four bucks a leter also bad. But we are far
- 0:16Speaker 1: from a fuel crisis at this point. In fact, we're
- 0:20Speaker 1: not really going to have a fuel crisis. We're not
- 0:23Speaker 1: going to have a shortage. We're going to have a
- 0:25Speaker 1: price problem more than anything, which is not the thing
- 0:29Speaker 1: as saying that one day we won't be out of
- 0:31Speaker 1: fuel or having to ration it before we get there.
- 0:33Speaker 1: That is a possibility, but we've had economists and pundits
- 0:37Speaker 1: come out. Pundits come out this week and hit the
- 0:39Speaker 1: panic button just a little bit. Oil will start to
- 0:43Speaker 1: flow from elsewhere. As I mentioned earlier, look at Europe,
- 0:46Speaker 1: they're already replacing half of what they lost. This is
- 0:49Speaker 1: jet fuel stockpiles from Nigeria and America and other places.
- 0:53Speaker 1: But these things do take time, and as we've spoken
- 0:56Speaker 1: about on the show many times, that ultimately means cost who.
- 1:00Speaker 1: Things became clear I think this week one Carnee and
- 1:03Speaker 1: Canada and Albanese in Australia are both on board with
- 1:07Speaker 1: oil drill, baby drill, more domestic production. They're looking at
- 1:11Speaker 1: proposals for more in Queensland. Karney is promising to build
- 1:15Speaker 1: roads to oil wells. In Canada, climate's taken a bit
- 1:19Speaker 1: of a back seat. Its needs must second thing. People
- 1:23Speaker 1: I think have confidence in the government's fuel response. It's
- 1:28Speaker 1: basically a high trust model that they are operating. Although
- 1:31Speaker 1: I spoke to Shane Jones yesterday he said they might
- 1:33Speaker 1: look at releasing more of that commercially sensitive information. But
- 1:36Speaker 1: it's a high trust model. They say, trust us, we
- 1:39Speaker 1: know what we're doing, and I think people do. And
- 1:42Speaker 1: if you want evidence of that, it's what you don't see,
- 1:46Speaker 1: not what you do see. There is no panic buying,
- 1:49Speaker 1: there are no jerry cans, there's no cues outside mobile
- 1:52Speaker 1: and the same can't be said for other countries. For
