- 0:09Speaker 1: Inside the Birds is back. What's up, everybody? This is
- 0:15Speaker 1: an emergency podcast edition of Inside the Birds. I'm Jeff Mosher.
- 0:19Speaker 1: I'm with Adam Kaplan and hey, guess what. June first,
- 0:22Speaker 1: four o'clock came along, and surprise, AJ Brown got traded
- 0:27Speaker 1: to the New England Patriots for a twenty twenty eight
- 0:30Speaker 1: first round pick and then, according to reports, the best
- 0:34Speaker 1: of New England's twenty twenty seven fifth round picks. Apparently
- 0:37Speaker 1: they have two, and if they acquire more, it'll just
- 0:39Speaker 1: be the best of whatever fifth round pick that they have.
- 0:43Speaker 2: But real quick, so they have their own and they
- 0:45Speaker 2: have Chicagos in the Garrett Bradbury trade, understand it. So
- 0:49Speaker 2: the Eagles will get the better of those two. That'll
- 0:52Speaker 2: be reshuffled after the season seeing where those picks finished.
- 0:57Speaker 2: But yeah, look this is where we're gonna get it
- 1:00Speaker 2: to this. We've got more to say than we've probably
- 1:02Speaker 2: talked about for a while on this situation. We've kinda
- 1:04Speaker 2: we've known this is going to happen for months. It's
- 1:06Speaker 2: just you mentioned you had to get here. Post June one.
- 1:10Speaker 2: The Eagles get the cap relief, which is why, which
- 1:13Speaker 2: is what held up the trade. Only reason why the
- 1:15Speaker 2: trade was held up and A. J. Brown got what
- 1:20Speaker 2: he wanted. He wanted out. He goes, as we talked
- 1:22Speaker 2: about months ago, really didn't want to do this, that
- 1:24Speaker 2: was our understanding. But kind of like when they didn't
- 1:28Speaker 2: really want to trade, Carson wentz like you could feel
- 1:32Speaker 2: that way, but when you get more information from the
- 1:34Speaker 2: player and the agents or agent who either or you
- 1:38Speaker 2: see like there's it could be a problem. Yeah, and
- 1:41Speaker 2: Eagles made this trade. You know, they get multiple picks,
- 1:45Speaker 2: Like I believe they asked for one in a three
- 1:46Speaker 2: months ago and then it won up being one and
- 1:48Speaker 2: a five mm Eagles. We're not doing this trade without
- 1:52Speaker 2: a one. That's That's kind of my initial reaction. And
- 1:54Speaker 2: what I've known now what I don't know is what
- 1:58Speaker 2: I wonder is what if there weren't of course this
- 2:02Speaker 2: means the cap implications mean everything to this, but if
- 2:09Speaker 2: there were no whether they asked for so much, if
- 2:11Speaker 2: they didn't get the massive capit which they're gonna spread
- 2:14Speaker 2: over two seasons, I do wonder about that. How much
- 2:17Speaker 2: was that a part of their ask It's kind of
- 2:19Speaker 2: like I've called it a tariff, you know, going with
- 2:22Speaker 2: it like like attacks look Yeah, the Eagles are clearing
- 2:25Speaker 2: out twenty nine million the season, which the Patriots were
- 2:28Speaker 2: responsible for. But Egles take a massive cap pit and
- 2:31Speaker 2: they're going to have it or they're going to spread
- 2:33Speaker 2: it out. It's a little bit more for one season
- 2:35Speaker 2: than the other, but they're gonna split over two seasons,
- 2:37Speaker 2: which is what the Players Association proposed a couple of
- 2:43Speaker 2: decades ago. What we didn't know in recent years is
- 2:45Speaker 2: that you could actually use it for trades. You've got
- 2:47Speaker 2: to use a post June one designation for trades. So
- 2:50Speaker 2: the Eagles were doing that to take one of their designations.
- 2:53Speaker 2: So they move them. Patriots get what they've wanted all along.
- 2:58Speaker 2: A J. Brown. It wasn't just Mike Elliot. Wolf is
- 3:01Speaker 2: one of him. Elliott the Patriots called Eagles I think
- 3:03Speaker 2: three years ago, two or three years ago. For him.
- 3:06Speaker 2: It was well before Brabel got there, by the way,
- 3:08Speaker 2: for Rabel was even on their mind to come back,
- 3:10Speaker 2: and they got their man. So it is interesting though,
- 3:13Speaker 2: as they sent it back to you, yeah, getting it
- 3:17Speaker 2: getting a twenty eight first round of post to twenty
- 3:19Speaker 2: seven I obviously.
- 3:24Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I mean it may not be because now
- 3:27Speaker 1: that the Patriots have a J. Brown. They're going to
- 3:29Speaker 1: be pretty good, and you would think it'll still be
- 3:32Speaker 1: the same thing.
- 3:33Speaker 2: It'll be.
- 3:33Speaker 1: You know, the Broncos did their thing getting Waddle, the
- 3:36Speaker 1: Patriots do their thing getting Brown. Who do you see
- 3:39Speaker 1: as like a real true Super Bowl contender besides those
- 3:43Speaker 1: two two because the AFC is a little bit weak
- 3:46Speaker 1: right now, I mean the three and they had the
- 3:49Speaker 1: other issues. I mean, the Chiefs might be able to
- 3:51Speaker 1: come back a little bit, but I don't the Broncos
- 3:54Speaker 1: on a different level than than the rest of the AFC.
- 3:57Speaker 2: Yeah, the Chiefs, maybe the Bills. Yeah, with getting DJ Moore,
- 4:02Speaker 2: isn't it crazy the fascination that clubs have with receivers.
- 4:06Speaker 2: It's just really remarkable to me. Yeah, how these guys move.
- 4:09Speaker 2: It's yes, Miles Garrett got moved. Also right by the way,
- 4:16Speaker 2: the AJ Brown trade, and it's super important. It cannot
- 4:19Speaker 2: be completed officially, so the book teams announced it until
- 4:23Speaker 2: he passes the physical correct that matters. Set man with
- 4:27Speaker 2: his knees. As we've talked about for four years now,
- 4:29Speaker 2: it is remarkable. It doesn't seem like four years that
- 4:32Speaker 2: Brown was in Philly. It seems like three, But it
- 4:33Speaker 2: was four trading door in the twenty two draft, and
- 4:38Speaker 2: we got past this draft and now they've got the
- 4:41Speaker 2: trade and we'll get to the eagle side of it.
- 4:43Speaker 2: But I know, texting with someone with the Patriots in
- 4:45Speaker 2: the last hour or so, they're super excited. They're just
- 4:50Speaker 2: knowing what this player it means to them, and they're
- 4:53Speaker 2: you know, we mentioned Eliot Wolf. Mike Rabel obviously very
- 4:56Speaker 2: close to AJ. For Abel admitted at the combine that
- 4:58Speaker 2: they text a lot, which is kind of interesting. Hey, yeah, yeah,
- 5:04Speaker 2: you know it's and there are other coaches were with
- 5:06Speaker 2: Mike and AJ with the Titans, so it's a pretty
- 5:10Speaker 2: big deal. It's a pretty big deal. But the Patriots
- 5:12Speaker 2: get what they wanted, no question, Yeah.
- 5:14Speaker 1: For sure. And I do want to do because we
- 5:17Speaker 1: get listeners who sometimes ask us they don't understand the
- 5:21Speaker 1: why June first matter.
- 5:23Speaker 2: So you were.
- 5:24Speaker 1: Saying it, and to just put it in language purposes
- 5:27Speaker 1: that people can understand, is that we're talking about money
- 5:31Speaker 1: from that has already been paid out, like signing bonus
- 5:35Speaker 1: money that has been paid out, but from a bookkeeping standpoint,
- 5:39Speaker 1: was spread out over several years. And when you do that,
- 5:41Speaker 1: you trade a player before June First, all that money
- 5:45Speaker 1: that you paid out as old would be accelerated into
- 5:48Speaker 1: that year's salary cap. So the Eagles will be taking
- 5:51Speaker 1: it even bigger way bigger.
- 5:53Speaker 2: Cap three million.
- 5:54Speaker 1: Yeah right now that now, as you mentioned, it's not
- 5:57Speaker 1: necessarily cut in half, but you only pay what's on
- 6:00Speaker 1: the books this year and then all that the rest
- 6:02Speaker 1: of it will get drained in the next year. And
- 6:04Speaker 1: why is that significant? Adam and I would say, is
- 6:07Speaker 1: it now? Because the Egos don't have to have it
- 6:10Speaker 1: all drained into this year's salary cap. It does give
- 6:13Speaker 1: them some maneuverability. They have some contract extensions they probably
- 6:17Speaker 1: like to get hammered out. Not that they couldn't have
- 6:20Speaker 1: done these things, but I think from a roster or
- 6:24Speaker 1: from a cap flexibility like they always like to have.
- 6:27Speaker 1: You might see Jaylen Carter or Moro Jomo. Who else
- 6:30Speaker 1: have we talked about who is up on an extension.
- 6:31Speaker 1: I don't know, we'll see, but they could do some
- 6:34Speaker 1: things now this year because they're taking less of a
- 6:37Speaker 1: cap hit this year on agent unless next year as well,
- 6:41Speaker 1: because next year we know Degene Mitchell, Jylex Hunt. So
- 6:45Speaker 1: it just it enables that to happen because of waiting
- 6:48Speaker 1: till after June.
- 6:49Speaker 2: First, I want to be a great cap flexibility. It's
- 6:52Speaker 2: strictly about cap flexibility. And these damn option bonus portions. Yeah,
- 6:56Speaker 2: the agents. It's kind of funny. Actually some teams, now
- 7:01Speaker 2: the Saints are starting to do it. I was looking
- 7:04Speaker 2: over some contracts lately and I was like, wow, there
- 7:07Speaker 2: are actually more teams, not just the Eagles doing auction bonuses. Yeah,
- 7:11Speaker 2: it's smart. It's a copycat league. Why would more teams
- 7:15Speaker 2: not do it? But they are so Yeah, they'll get
- 7:17Speaker 2: the cap relief. And I remember when the Eagles took
- 7:22Speaker 2: the massive cap hit for wins, and again they really
- 7:26Speaker 2: didn't want to do it, but once they knew there
- 7:28Speaker 2: was a point of no return with Carson, Carson just
- 7:30Speaker 2: what it was just you just could like that one
- 7:34Speaker 2: was way uggler than the A. G. Brown thing, which
- 7:36Speaker 2: will get back to in a second in terms of
- 7:38Speaker 2: want to get out and stuff. But Wentz was so
- 7:42Speaker 2: far gone and it got so ugly behind the scenes.
- 7:44Speaker 2: As I remember gathering information, it was something that it
- 7:48Speaker 2: was unattenable. You had to trade him. And how he
- 7:51Speaker 2: did well, I mean he did well. Now I know
- 7:53Speaker 2: some people are like this should have done better a J.
- 7:56Speaker 2: Browns approved player Jaalen Waddle. This is a year and
- 7:58Speaker 2: a half younger, not accomplished player, but mm hmm. And
- 8:02Speaker 2: the Eagles had to take on look. Eagles had taken
- 8:04Speaker 2: on that that massive cap pit. You know, that's part
- 8:07Speaker 2: of why they're able to get the ask that they got,
- 8:09Speaker 2: I mean getting one to five for a twenty nine
- 8:11Speaker 2: year old player who, as we detailed at the time
- 8:14Speaker 2: of the trade, had pretty significant concerns with his needs
- 8:17Speaker 2: for the future. And I give the Eagles credit and
- 8:20Speaker 2: their their their training staff, whatever plan they had. However,
- 8:24Speaker 2: they treated him, worked well, missed very little time, and
- 8:29Speaker 2: he got through it. And it's credit to him too,
- 8:32Speaker 2: by the way, for playing through through those the issues.
- 8:35Speaker 2: Yeah so you but you get back as we move
- 8:38Speaker 2: this forward to all the issues that that Brown had
- 8:42Speaker 2: in terms of, Hey, I'm not happy with my role
- 8:45Speaker 2: in the offense though I'm supposed to be the guy.
- 8:47Speaker 2: Why am I not getting the ball when I'm supposed
- 8:49Speaker 2: to get it? The timing issue between him and Hurts,
- 8:51Speaker 2: the Hurts relationship with Brown. It's then when Dom.
- 8:57Speaker 1: And Brandon Graham and Graham went.
- 9:01Speaker 2: To who who else wanted Hurt this house with just
- 9:04Speaker 2: those Was it Dominant and BG?
- 9:06Speaker 1: Who? I don't think. I don't know if Donald don
- 9:09Speaker 1: BG and Oh Barkley was it? It was a Saquon
- 9:11Speaker 1: I think.
- 9:12Speaker 2: It was two years ago. It was twenty four seasons.
- 9:14Speaker 2: I don't remember.
- 9:14Speaker 1: I know last year that there was also a powoll
- 9:17Speaker 1: between AJ Barkley and Jalen Hurts that weirdly, Jalen and
- 9:23Speaker 1: Saquon both talked about and admitted, but A J. Brown
- 9:25Speaker 1: said never happened, which is, you know, well, he of
- 9:30Speaker 1: of an obvious departure was happening. And when people say,
- 9:34Speaker 1: to your point, Adam, why didn't they get more value?
- 9:36Speaker 1: I feel like people were not really taking into account
- 9:40Speaker 1: that the Eagles. People thought the Eagles had leverage because
- 9:43Speaker 1: the Patriots absolutely needed a player like Brown to get
- 9:47Speaker 1: back to the Super Bowl after releasing Steph Diggs. But
- 9:50Speaker 1: the Eagles had very little ability to bring a J.
- 9:54Speaker 1: Brown back unless he was gonna be very unhappy. And
- 9:57Speaker 1: you saw in the playoff game how that kind of
- 10:01Speaker 1: player is when he's not happy. And now think about
- 10:03Speaker 1: that for yet another year. There was just to me,
- 10:05Speaker 1: it was untenable. Like you mentioned the Carson Wentz thing
- 10:09Speaker 1: the Eagles have been good about getting really like when
- 10:12Speaker 1: the player wants out. Reddick, he wanted more money or out.
- 10:15Speaker 1: The Eagles traded him. They were in the super Bowl
- 10:17Speaker 1: that year. They want it right. Carson Wentz, they traded him.
- 10:20Speaker 1: Two years ago, they're in the super Bowl. Zach Ertz,
- 10:22Speaker 1: they traded Okay, was he wanted to be gone, and
- 10:25Speaker 1: they got rid of him in the way that they
- 10:27Speaker 1: had to u And there was even another player Price
- 10:33Speaker 1: wasn't happy. We knew he wasn't gonna go to OTAs,
- 10:36Speaker 1: we knew we wanted out. They traded him. Okay, So
- 10:39Speaker 1: the Eagles, the Eagles will be will be Okay. I
- 10:41Speaker 1: believe they will because if you look at their roster,
- 10:44Speaker 1: no matter what you want to say about not being
- 10:46Speaker 1: as good without a J. Brown in nearly every game
- 10:50Speaker 1: they play this year, you're gonna look at their roster
- 10:51Speaker 1: and say they have as much, if not more talent
- 10:55Speaker 1: than whoever they're playing. And that's because they do a
- 10:58Speaker 1: good job of roster controls. And then what this is
- 11:00Speaker 1: gonna be like next year will be what they get
- 11:04Speaker 1: a twenty twenty eight first round pick. They've had multiple
- 11:07Speaker 1: first round picks in several drafts over the last five
- 11:09Speaker 1: or six years now, so they know what they're doing
- 11:12Speaker 1: in this case.
- 11:12Speaker 2: Is yeah, when you look at the situation, if Hertz
- 11:18Speaker 2: plays well within the scheme and Sean Manning's who they
- 11:20Speaker 2: thought he was because again he's never called a play before. Sure,
- 11:23Speaker 2: you don't have a J. Brown and that physical strength
- 11:26Speaker 2: at the exposition or is as Syrianna calls it, at
- 11:28Speaker 2: the outside position. Don't have that anymore. Like Wicks's size
- 11:33Speaker 2: is actually taller than a J. Brown. But a J.
- 11:34Speaker 2: Brown's you know, has a build, a build it that
- 11:38Speaker 2: he has. It's he's a rock. Yeah, and he's a
- 11:41Speaker 2: really good football player. Now there's some thought. I asked
- 11:43Speaker 2: a team who had they looked into it. They went up,
- 11:48Speaker 2: I don't. They may have called Howie. I have no idea,
- 11:50Speaker 2: but they because they know he's When you know players
- 11:53Speaker 2: available and you have a need for the future, let's
- 11:55Speaker 2: say it's a march for free agency. Is put in
- 11:58Speaker 2: the cap situation behind him that it would be laid.
- 12:00Speaker 2: You're gonna do homework. They felt grating his tape looking
- 12:03Speaker 2: at it. This one person told me, I always got
- 12:06Speaker 2: two years left. It looks like he could play at
- 12:09Speaker 2: a high level. It wasn't the effort thing. It's just
- 12:13Speaker 2: the explosion thing. You could see some things, they may
- 12:16Speaker 2: not look the same. So here's the thing, and here's
- 12:19Speaker 2: the other part of this situation for a J. Brown, Right,
- 12:24Speaker 2: he's like he knew this when he did the deal.
- 12:26Speaker 2: Right he did. He got his final extension with the Eagles,
- 12:29Speaker 2: and right around the draft of twenty twenty four, that extension,
- 12:35Speaker 2: which is where thirty two million was, was really backloaded
- 12:39Speaker 2: the fully guaranteed money. It's twenty nine million this season.
- 12:41Speaker 2: That's a big number that the Eagles were moving, big
- 12:44Speaker 2: number in cash. There's only four million next year that's
- 12:47Speaker 2: fully guaranteed. Let me tell you something. If he was
- 12:49Speaker 2: still here and he had a bad year, good luck
- 12:52Speaker 2: trying to trade him. They might have had it cut him.
- 12:54Speaker 2: I'm I'm just explaining what would happen if he fell off,
- 12:58Speaker 2: if he had a bad season. If you're a Brown
- 13:00Speaker 2: knowing this, knowing that you're not getting the ball like
- 13:03Speaker 2: you should, and your numbers are declining and maybe your
- 13:07Speaker 2: tape's not quite as good, how are you getting a
- 13:09Speaker 2: new deal? How you even guaranteeing money next year? I
- 13:12Speaker 2: know that the Texans did Nico Collins. They did him well.
- 13:16Speaker 2: They they restructured his contract and gave him guaranteed money
- 13:19Speaker 2: next year. Well, he outplayed his contract and he's younger.
- 13:22Speaker 2: He's missed a lot of time though by the way,
- 13:24Speaker 2: he's missed a decent amount of time. But you can't
- 13:28Speaker 2: just it's about justifying it. Did the guy out? Did
- 13:31Speaker 2: he do? We feel like like they did with Barkley, Well,
- 13:33Speaker 2: like the Eagles did with Barkley. They didn't have to
- 13:36Speaker 2: do anything, but he was so great and so dominant.
- 13:40Speaker 2: They're like, you know what, we'll get a little bit
- 13:41Speaker 2: help with the cap, but we're gonna give Hi more guaranteed.
- 13:44Speaker 2: We're gonna give more cash and guaranteed money. Right Brown
- 13:48Speaker 2: of twenty nine. If he has a bad year, good
- 13:51Speaker 2: luck trying to get anything from anybody. It's about justification
- 13:54Speaker 2: and cash. And I wonder, I wonder what New Willingan's
- 13:58Speaker 2: going to do when over time here because he's signed
- 14:01Speaker 2: through folks, he is signed through aj Brown twenty nine.
- 14:04Speaker 1: Yeah, and.
- 14:07Speaker 2: The real money guarant the real money goes away after
- 14:09Speaker 2: the season in terms of guaranteed money. That's interesting.
- 14:12Speaker 1: Yeah, and now it becomes put up our shut up
- 14:15Speaker 1: time again for AJ I mean, he had an unbelievable
- 14:18Speaker 1: two year first two years with the Eagles, right, But
- 14:20Speaker 1: he made it clear after the Eagles won the Super
- 14:22Speaker 1: Bowl that it wasn't satisfying enough for him. It's not
- 14:26Speaker 1: enough for him to win a Super Bowl and be
- 14:28Speaker 1: a starter. He needs to be a player who he
- 14:31Speaker 1: feels in his intrinsically was more responsible for winning the
- 14:37Speaker 1: Super Bowl. Right, Like, when you think of the Eagles
- 14:38Speaker 1: winning Super Bowl, you think, man, they just put on
- 14:40Speaker 1: a sack clinic against Patrick Mahomes and Cooper de Gen
- 14:44Speaker 1: and the interception and DeVante Smith catching the dag. You
- 14:47Speaker 1: don't sit there even though A J. Brown did have
- 14:49Speaker 1: a touchdown in the game, right, you don't consider that
- 14:52Speaker 1: the AJ Brown coming out game like some other games
- 14:55Speaker 1: where he had in that first season, first two seasons
- 14:57Speaker 1: where he was just catching touchdowns left and right. So
- 15:01Speaker 1: now he's going to go to New England and he's
- 15:04Speaker 1: going to see what life is like on a different
- 15:07Speaker 1: kind of team and a different and it's a good organization.
- 15:09Speaker 1: They have a history of putting together good teams. I'm
- 15:11Speaker 1: sure they'll be fine, but we'll see what life is
- 15:14Speaker 1: like outside that cocoon and if Drake May can get
- 15:17Speaker 1: him the ball as often as he wants, and if
- 15:20Speaker 1: they win, and if A J. Brown is satisfied with
- 15:23Speaker 1: his role in the offense with winning, because as we've seen,
- 15:26Speaker 1: winning wasn't enough. It's got to be about his role
- 15:30Speaker 1: in the winning. And that's the only thing that for A. J.
- 15:32Speaker 1: Brown I think might come back to haunt him because
- 15:37Speaker 1: getting fourteen hundred yards and multiple double digit touchdowns in
- 15:41Speaker 1: his league ain't easy all the time. And now he's
- 15:43Speaker 1: going to be asked, and now he's going to want that,
- 15:45Speaker 1: and now Drake May is going to feel that responsibility
- 15:48Speaker 1: to have to get him that, you know, So that's
- 15:51Speaker 1: somebody else's problem now, as Jim.
- 15:54Speaker 2: Off that, Now, Drake May had a terrible Super Bowl
- 15:57Speaker 2: and I know they don't think it had anything to
- 15:58Speaker 2: do with his shoulder. He just was his timing was off. Yeah,
- 16:01Speaker 2: maybe he didn't practice enough during the week, whatever the
- 16:03Speaker 2: case may be. He just didn't play well. But now
- 16:06Speaker 2: you get and Romeo Dobbs is added, right, he'll be
- 16:09Speaker 2: their Z receiver. Brown will be their ex Uh, Kayshawn
- 16:13Speaker 2: Booty could luturey. Kash Booty's not getting his extension, that's
- 16:16Speaker 2: not happening. He's on the fire of his deal. They
- 16:19Speaker 2: if Kyle Williams, Matt Collins still doing it, it's hard
- 16:21Speaker 2: to believe. And Pop Douglas, you know, they're not very
- 16:25Speaker 2: good at tight end Hunter Henry's up there, he's near
- 16:27Speaker 2: the enemy's crew. A good player though. Yeah, but you
- 16:30Speaker 2: look at Brown and Dobbs that they're going to dominate
- 16:33Speaker 2: their offense. It's going to go through AJ like that's
- 16:36Speaker 2: because you look at it. With the Eagles, you've got
- 16:38Speaker 2: Davante Goddard. Now, would Wicks have been an Eagle if
- 16:43Speaker 2: the Eagles knew back in March that AJ was staying.
- 16:47Speaker 2: Probably not, Probably not because you wouldn't be guaranteeing twelve
- 16:50Speaker 2: million over two years. Why would you do that? Would
- 16:53Speaker 2: Hollywood Brown be here for five million full of guaranteed? Right?
- 16:56Speaker 2: Would would makayle Lemon be here? No? Okay, so we
- 16:59Speaker 2: know this. The Eagles knew months ago that this was
- 17:00Speaker 2: going to happen. They just had to get there, and
- 17:02Speaker 2: they got there. But you know, it's I think the
- 17:06Speaker 2: value I don't people want to know. The early reaction
- 17:08Speaker 2: I got from folks around the League's Eagles got good
- 17:10Speaker 2: value for Brown because it's not a secret why the
- 17:14Speaker 2: Titans trade in them away. Okay, because it was concerned
- 17:18Speaker 2: long term viability, it was needs. We put this out
- 17:20Speaker 2: four years ago. The way coming from the Titan stuff
- 17:24Speaker 2: that I got and talk around the league was that
- 17:26Speaker 2: you and I got the clubs knew that he had
- 17:29Speaker 2: there was an issue with his knees going back to college. Hm,
- 17:32Speaker 2: and you have to manage it. And I give the
- 17:35Speaker 2: Titans trading staff and Eagles trading staff credit for doing it.
- 17:38Speaker 2: But he's no longer an Eagle, he's the Patriots, with
- 17:40Speaker 2: the Patriots now contingent on the passing the physical It's
- 17:44Speaker 2: funny we really mentioned this when there's a trade, but
- 17:47Speaker 2: because of what happened with the Raiders and the Ravens,
- 17:49Speaker 2: he's sure as hell better mention it. Mm hm.
- 17:51Speaker 1: Oh yeah, that's a great point. That's a great point
- 17:54Speaker 1: that these are not comparable situation. I have heard people like,
- 17:57Speaker 1: so I'm saying it could happen if he failed it
- 17:59Speaker 1: obviously ruin it, But people were trying to compare the
- 18:03Speaker 1: situations and I'm like, listen, the Ravens, right.
- 18:08Speaker 2: A.
- 18:09Speaker 1: Trey Henderson was still out there like there were some
- 18:11Speaker 1: other off he didn't so that you know, obviously he
- 18:14Speaker 1: didn't pass the physical, but the Patriots have known about.
- 18:17Speaker 1: It's not like the Patriots are just gonna find out
- 18:19Speaker 1: tomorrow or today or whenever he takes the physical that
- 18:22Speaker 1: aj Brown's history of his knee issues was an issue.
- 18:25Speaker 1: You know, like they know that if he passes the physical,
- 18:28Speaker 1: he's fine, and there's no reason to believe he won't
- 18:30Speaker 1: pass physical. But we'll say, you're right, stranger things have happened. Yeah, yeah,
- 18:35Speaker 1: there's no alternative for the Patriots that's equivalent though the
- 18:38Speaker 1: way there was where the Ravens could say, well, just
- 18:41Speaker 1: we can go sign Trey Hendrickson and not even have
- 18:44Speaker 1: to give up draft picks. So you know, I don't
- 18:47Speaker 1: I don't see the Patriots getting remorse as the conspiracy
- 18:50Speaker 1: theories are going to go and and making this not happen.
- 18:54Speaker 1: It's gonna happen as long as he's Oh yeah.
- 18:57Speaker 2: I mentioned this, I think apart to our Patreon folks
- 19:00Speaker 2: last week, but this is really funny. So the late
- 19:04Speaker 2: Bill Walton, he did there was a Celtics Lakers trilogy
- 19:11Speaker 2: thirty for thirty on ESPN. You know, the Robvalry in
- 19:14Speaker 2: the eighties and Walton talked about when he was acquired
- 19:21Speaker 2: or maybe they signed him the Celtic I know he
- 19:23Speaker 2: was added there. I don't remember via Trader signing. But anyway,
- 19:25Speaker 2: when the Celtics added Bill Walton, like the the the
- 19:31Speaker 2: medical staff or team doctors said there's no way we
- 19:33Speaker 2: could pass Walton. He goes, Walton, could you play? He goes, yes,
- 19:37Speaker 2: he goes, he passed the physical Like that's crazy. Well,
- 19:41Speaker 2: there's like no way. One of the one of the clues,
- 19:45Speaker 2: by the way, which we've known for months, watch what
- 19:49Speaker 2: the Patriots do in the draft, and that'll give you
- 19:51Speaker 2: a good idea. Roman Adobs had nothing to do with it.
- 19:55Speaker 2: He's he's not a He's not a number one receiver
- 19:57Speaker 2: for folks like to talk like that. He's not. He's too.
- 20:00Speaker 2: In fact, they really didn't.
- 20:01Speaker 1: Have a very good two last year.
- 20:02Speaker 2: I mean no, they didn't know. They didn't. That's why
- 20:04Speaker 2: Matt Collins was getting a run like he was. They
- 20:07Speaker 2: know that they couldn't go for they needed two new
- 20:09Speaker 2: receivers at least absolutely. They like Kyle Williams was the
- 20:12Speaker 2: third round last year, but he wasn't ready to start
- 20:14Speaker 2: was out of Washington State, right, so you move along.
- 20:18Speaker 2: I remember Jalen Pulk did work out a second round
- 20:21Speaker 2: or what about? That was just they got nothing for him.
- 20:24Speaker 2: That was rough turned into the Saints. He missed the season.
- 20:26Speaker 3: By the way, if you're thinking about hitting any away
- 20:29Speaker 3: games this season.

- 21:45Speaker 1: great prices and an experience made for Philly fans twenty
- 21:48Speaker 1: one and up. So to put a poll on this, Adam,
- 21:51Speaker 1: because I do want to get to the RAMS thing
- 21:52Speaker 1: in a second, all right, the like you look back
- 21:56Speaker 1: and you know it's not where historians or journalists right
- 22:00Speaker 1: round came here. And in four years he had five
- 22:03Speaker 1: thousand and thirty four receive trade two touchdowns. And not
- 22:08Speaker 1: only was that a great trade, but also it was
- 22:12Speaker 1: a guy who really could have I thought after the
- 22:15Speaker 1: first two or three years he was going to finish
- 22:18Speaker 1: his career as the best wide receiver to ever play
- 22:21Speaker 1: for the And I hold that high regard everybody. A
- 22:23Speaker 1: lot of people talk about Tyo, I don't get right,
- 22:27Speaker 1: Harold and my quick right those are those are the legends.
- 22:30Speaker 1: And I thought aj Brown had a chance to get
- 22:33Speaker 1: up onto that Mount Rushmore, maybe ahead of them, because
- 22:36Speaker 1: everything just seems so perfect those first two years. And
- 22:39Speaker 1: to me, that's just the unfortunate part, is that there's
- 22:41Speaker 1: something within him that couldn't live with what he had
- 22:46Speaker 1: here in Philadelphia, which is pretty darn good, gonna be
- 22:49Speaker 1: hard to replicate, And it had to end like this
- 22:51Speaker 1: because he really had a chance in a city that
- 22:54Speaker 1: has not been blessed with like the forty nine ers.
- 22:58Speaker 1: Right there, go look at the forty nine er history
- 23:00Speaker 1: of wide receivers. There's a great many of them right
- 23:02Speaker 1: this city. You got quick Carmichael and then literally fifteen
- 23:06Speaker 1: Games of c O was like your third third on
- 23:08Speaker 1: that list. Unless you're honestly you know.
- 23:12Speaker 2: You've you've told us that you were. That was your
- 23:13Speaker 2: first year you were a backup beat writer covering the Eagles.
- 23:16Speaker 1: In two thousand and five, I was like the ga
- 23:18Speaker 1: on the Eagles.
- 23:19Speaker 2: And then okay, okay, year I would have to tell
- 23:22Speaker 2: you too. Numbers are numbers, But just my own eyes,
- 23:30Speaker 2: as great as Brown wasn't in uh in twenty twenty two,
- 23:34Speaker 2: mm hmm, t was even better for the brief time
- 23:37Speaker 2: he was here. It was that just that's forget the
- 23:40Speaker 2: next season, forget the next season, right until obviously he
- 23:42Speaker 2: broke his hankle. But well, he's playing the two bowls. Ridiculous.
- 23:46Speaker 1: Yeah, although I was he was having a better season
- 23:49Speaker 1: in twenty twenty five statistically before he got kicked off
- 23:52Speaker 1: the team. He was unbelievable. Then you mean, yeah, I'm
- 23:57Speaker 1: five Yeah, five six games of his career were he
- 24:02Speaker 1: was actually doing statistically better than two thousand and four.
- 24:05Speaker 2: It was Iverson like it was Barkley, like what Barkley
- 24:09Speaker 2: did in twenty four, Like you couldn't wait till the
- 24:11Speaker 2: passes throne to him. Yep, you just were waiting for
- 24:14Speaker 2: the run after the catch. Yeah, West Coast offense. It's
- 24:16Speaker 2: just ridiculous. What he can do with a football, Key's
- 24:20Speaker 2: pretty interesting. But so to move this along here, the
- 24:23Speaker 2: value is pretty good. You know, we'll see what how
- 24:24Speaker 2: he does with that with those those two picks. We're
- 24:30Speaker 2: going to talk more on our next show about the
- 24:32Speaker 2: what it looks like post draft and past target try
- 24:35Speaker 2: and what we think it's going to look like, and
- 24:37Speaker 2: we'll get we'll get more pinons for folks around the
- 24:39Speaker 2: league about how it fits and what it's looked like
- 24:42Speaker 2: and what it's going to look like. And also because
- 24:45Speaker 2: you don't have Brown opposite Smith, because you know Smith
- 24:48Speaker 2: is was going to draw more double teams. Right, we
- 24:53Speaker 2: need we got we We're going to look into what
- 24:56Speaker 2: the challenge is from a schematic standpoint and play calling
- 24:59Speaker 2: standpoint for this rookie OC about what he's what he's
- 25:04Speaker 2: up against here. That deals down a J. Brown to
- 25:05Speaker 2: work with. That's a big deal.
- 25:06Speaker 1: It's a big deal, absolutely, all right. The Rams, the
- 25:10Speaker 1: Rams won up the Eagles. I'm going and training for
- 25:14Speaker 1: a Hall of Famer amount Rushimore pass rusher, maybe the
- 25:17Speaker 1: best non court No, I think it's fair to say
- 25:19Speaker 1: he's the best non quarterback player in the NFL. You
- 25:24Speaker 1: may be the best player in the NFL.
- 25:26Speaker 2: Best practice I've seen it just happened to be in Philly.
- 25:30Speaker 2: Of all the teams I've visited for training camp, the
- 25:32Speaker 2: two best practices, it was Brady here and I don't know,
- 25:35Speaker 2: twenty fifteen or something, where he won twenty seven. For
- 25:38Speaker 2: twenty seven, every pass was anticipation, meaning the the pass
- 25:43Speaker 2: target's got to go get the football right the guy
- 25:45Speaker 2: was in the middle or short. He was in the
- 25:47Speaker 2: beginning of twenty five percent was router fifty percent and
- 25:49Speaker 2: the ball was out. Okay. It was just ridiculous. And
- 25:53Speaker 2: the practice here two years ago, jointed practice with Cleveland.
- 25:56Speaker 2: All Garrett did was toy of them. They couldn't block him.
- 25:58Speaker 2: They laughed the entire time, and he got everybody, whether
- 26:02Speaker 2: he was lineup against Lane Johnson at right tackle or Milatta,
- 26:07Speaker 2: however they line them up. It was just ridiculous and
- 26:09Speaker 2: we're all like, for those of who are there watching it,
- 26:12Speaker 2: we're like, this happened like it was in It was
- 26:14Speaker 2: this one. I feel like because they faced him in
- 26:16Speaker 2: Berea in twenty two was at that one as well,
- 26:19Speaker 2: but that was something else, and you're just in all
- 26:21Speaker 2: of it. Although I will tell you watching Aaron Donald
- 26:24Speaker 2: of practice in LA, it was just his he doesn't
- 26:28Speaker 2: stop like he You've not seen anyone with hands like that.
- 26:32Speaker 2: That was pretty cool to see. But to from an
- 26:36Speaker 2: offensive standpoint was dominant. But from a defensive standpoint, Miles
- 26:40Speaker 2: Garrett's practice here two years ago was something I'll never forget.
- 26:44Speaker 2: It was ridiculous and I've not not that they're game
- 26:47Speaker 2: planning to block them, but any kind of drill, whether
- 26:50Speaker 2: there was eleven and eleven one on one, whatever the
- 26:54Speaker 2: hell it was, it was pretty special. And look, I
- 26:56Speaker 2: the Rams have a very unique way of they've taken
- 27:01Speaker 2: it farther than how he has, because how he would
- 27:03Speaker 2: like to still build for the draft and not through trades.
- 27:05Speaker 2: He does it sometimes too. If it's something didn't work out,
- 27:09Speaker 2: he's going to cover up the mistake by trade, and
- 27:11Speaker 2: usually works out. He makes the right decision. Didn't work initially,
- 27:14Speaker 2: but hey, I've got the I got the ability to
- 27:17Speaker 2: do what I want to do. I do this like
- 27:18Speaker 2: we're less need to his personnel control, like he sees
- 27:24Speaker 2: he sees an a bit. He goes, hey, let's go
- 27:26Speaker 2: for another ring. We got Stafford who's got to years
- 27:28Speaker 2: left in him, he's got to your extension, he's got
- 27:30Speaker 2: to yours left. Let's go forward again. And he's willing
- 27:33Speaker 2: to give up first round picks to do that. And
- 27:36Speaker 2: quite frankly, it's like we said with the Granard trade,
- 27:39Speaker 2: you have to include that in your draft, in your
- 27:41Speaker 2: draft class. Well, for what they're giving up next year,
- 27:45Speaker 2: Garrett's part of that draft class. I mean, it's a
- 27:47Speaker 2: and I'll be honest with you, they didn't give up
- 27:50Speaker 2: as much as I thought they would. I thought I
- 27:51Speaker 2: have to give a minimum of two first round picks.
- 27:53Speaker 1: I agree. I think people who are Eagles fans are
- 27:56Speaker 1: pissed that the Rams got him that that easily. And
- 27:59Speaker 1: don't forget the Rams also got Trent McDuffie earlier in there.
- 28:02Speaker 1: I mean, the Rams have really upgraded their defense, which
- 28:06Speaker 1: was so yeah, their achilles heel. Honestly, what kept them
- 28:10Speaker 1: from winning a Super Bowl was not their defense, it
- 28:12Speaker 1: was their special teams. They in both games against Seattle,
- 28:15Speaker 1: they had really I think she'd had a putt return
- 28:19Speaker 1: for a touchdown for one, another long one that's set
- 28:22Speaker 1: up a touchdown in another. They missed the field. I mean,
- 28:25Speaker 1: they were just a mess on special teams. They'll fix that.
- 28:29Speaker 1: I'm sure that's an off season emphasis. But they had
- 28:31Speaker 1: no problem scoring against the Seahawks. Do you know what
- 28:34Speaker 1: they averaged against the Seahawks last year per game they
- 28:37Speaker 1: played them three times average twenty eight point three points
- 28:39Speaker 1: per game against the Seahawks defense. All right, the Rams
- 28:42Speaker 1: legit don't move the ball on anybody. And now he
- 28:44Speaker 1: just added to one one Pro Bowler and one Hall
- 28:47Speaker 1: of Famer to their defense. They are legit good. It's
- 28:51Speaker 1: going to be a great matchup. I would say now
- 28:53Speaker 1: they're the favorites, not just in the NFC, but in
- 28:55Speaker 1: the NFL. I think that they are the best team
- 28:57Speaker 1: in the NFL.
- 28:58Speaker 2: Well they actually mean you know, they actually were. Oh yeah,
- 29:02Speaker 2: they were coming into the trade and I looked at MGM.
- 29:04Speaker 2: They're now they they're up there. It was they were
- 29:07Speaker 2: plus seven to fifty a oother plus six hundred, yeah
- 29:10Speaker 2: to win the Super Bowl. And I'm just telling what
- 29:13Speaker 2: the Eagles though, as we finish this off, if Hurts
- 29:18Speaker 2: throws on time and the players buy in. Early word
- 29:22Speaker 2: is that everything's good. But you know, may we're actual
- 29:24Speaker 2: sorry June first, if it looks good, Eagles can make
- 29:28Speaker 2: another run. So we know that. Yes, you the Rams,
- 29:31Speaker 2: Ad Miles Garrett, no question that that's a big deal. Plus,
- 29:35Speaker 2: they need length up front. You know, they're they're there.
- 29:38Speaker 2: There was a small front. That's why teams could run
- 29:39Speaker 2: on them.
- 29:40Speaker 1: That's a big that's a great point. The Eagles aren't
- 29:42Speaker 1: just gonna be able to attack or any team just
- 29:44Speaker 1: attack them on the edges and run for free like
- 29:46Speaker 1: they used to do.
- 29:47Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, it just it just but I'm telling you
- 29:50Speaker 2: this def Eagles defense if Wollan's a player, he's got
- 29:54Speaker 2: to be an upgrade over Jey Jackson. I mean, come on,
- 29:56Speaker 2: he has to be right. Yeah, uh Bond, We'll see
- 29:59Speaker 2: about Amble Young. They're super young and talented. Up front,
- 30:03Speaker 2: the defense is gonna be telling you got the one
- 30:04Speaker 2: of the best coordinators in NFL history and calling the defense.
- 30:08Speaker 2: I want to put it all on the offense. But
- 30:09Speaker 2: the big deal for them to make a Super Bowl run,
- 30:12Speaker 2: the offense has to be not special, but really good,
- 30:15Speaker 2: well above average.
- 30:16Speaker 1: Yeah, you're gonna have to keep pace. I mean, if
- 30:18Speaker 1: the Rams are gonna be able to put up twenty
- 30:20Speaker 1: four to thirty, you're gonna have to keep paced.
- 30:21Speaker 2: Sure's got to got to get to Stafford. The Rams
- 30:24Speaker 2: offensive line isn't great, but he, as Peyton Mannon did,
- 30:27Speaker 2: he could alleviate a great pass rush by getting the
- 30:29Speaker 2: ball quickly. That's how Pyt Mannon did it with a
- 30:31Speaker 2: very average offensive line. Trust me on that that is true.
- 30:34Speaker 1: I can't man, I can't wait till we preview. That
- 30:36Speaker 1: was that Week four game, right, all that.
- 30:38Speaker 2: Is gonna be sorry? Yeah, Rams here again. Yeah, the
- 30:41Speaker 2: Eagles and Rams they you know, and by the way,
- 30:44Speaker 2: not that the Rams needed to add a great player,
- 30:47Speaker 2: a Hall of Famer. They have seven more. They have
- 30:51Speaker 2: more primetime games than anyone, don't They have seven?
- 30:54Speaker 1: Yes, And that's the weird thing is that this game
- 30:56Speaker 1: against the Eagles is gonna be a one o'clock. I know,
- 30:58Speaker 1: I know.
- 30:59Speaker 2: There's nothing they can do. You can't it can't be changed.
- 31:01Speaker 2: It's week four, it starts a week five. Yeah, but
- 31:04Speaker 2: oh my god, that that'll be. The Rams are not
- 31:07Speaker 2: a juice team there nationally because the networks love them
- 31:09Speaker 2: because of Stafford and everything, obviously in McVeigh and all
- 31:14Speaker 2: the winning, but they don't.
- 31:17Speaker 1: I think casuals will watch them now well I mean, yeah, well.
- 31:21Speaker 2: There, but hold on. Though their rings are still very good,
- 31:25Speaker 2: this would not happen. They would not be on national
- 31:28Speaker 2: TV primetime seven times. The networks didn't want their The
- 31:31Speaker 2: networks are basically dictating if they want these They want
- 31:34Speaker 2: the want the Rams, of course, but nationally, the fan
- 31:37Speaker 2: base is small. They don't have a great national following,
- 31:41Speaker 2: just socially, social media wise and if you and all
- 31:45Speaker 2: that stuff. But it's pretty cool that that is a
- 31:48Speaker 2: evens having like a little they have a little bit
- 31:50Speaker 2: of a They don't have. There's not a lot of
- 31:52Speaker 2: heat between the two, although ironically Verse would would call
- 31:55Speaker 2: some of it, but now.
- 31:57Speaker 1: He's gone, yeah, no, you're right, there's not. The Eagles
- 32:00Speaker 1: have had their number, so it's very interesting.
- 32:03Speaker 2: They've never beaten them. Well, they choked last year like
- 32:05Speaker 2: you cannot believe.
- 32:06Speaker 1: But yeah, yeah again, special teams get a field goal
- 32:09Speaker 1: blocks That was not a hard field goal to make
- 32:11Speaker 1: that would have won the game. So all right, good
- 32:14Speaker 1: stuff in a future soon because we got the OTAs
- 32:18Speaker 1: are going to be open on Tuesday, so we'll bring
- 32:20Speaker 1: Andrew back in observations, and then shortly after that, Adam
- 32:23Speaker 1: and I are going to do a podcast looking at
- 32:25Speaker 1: the Eagles offense and their wide receiver picture and sort
- 32:28Speaker 1: of debunking some myths that we think are out there
- 32:31Speaker 1: and really explaining what this pass offense should look like
- 32:34Speaker 1: without Aj Brown. We'll get into that later this week.
- 32:37Speaker 1: That's going to do it for this emergency itb edition.
- 32:40Speaker 1: AJ Brown traded. He is finally a member of the
- 32:43Speaker 1: New England Patriots. And I didn't mention this at the
- 32:45Speaker 1: top of the show, but I do feel bad a
- 32:47Speaker 1: little bit for the five percent of people who kept
- 32:50Speaker 1: leaving comments at the end of our videos that we
- 32:52Speaker 1: were crazy that aj Brown trade was a media created
- 32:56Speaker 1: or fabrication or something only Diana Rassini had like this happened.
- 33:02Speaker 1: I feel bad because the they were wearing some hardcore
- 33:05Speaker 1: tinfoil hats there. But now for everybody.
- 33:09Speaker 2: Our patron members been here this since last November, I
- 33:12Speaker 2: said that I think is a realistic chance he gets straight,
- 33:13Speaker 2: just because of what I know and what what what
- 33:17Speaker 2: and how much he wanted out. He just it's it's
- 33:20Speaker 2: kind of complicated, to be honest with you, It's just
- 33:22Speaker 2: kind of it's kind of complicated.
- 33:23Speaker 1: But anyway, when you put the bebody wants they didn't
- 33:26Speaker 1: want to do it, you get into a sitch and
- 33:28Speaker 1: where we have to.
- 33:29Speaker 2: So yep, exactly alright, all right, that'll do it.
