  Here's the story. You might know her as Red Panda.

  If you've been to an NBA game, you may have seen her at 1/2

  time or Season 8 of America's Got Talent.

  Crystal New was born in China into a family of acrobats.

  When she was 7, her dad started teaching her a traditional bowl

  balancing act. By 12, she was performing full
• 0:54
  time. By 14, she was touring the the
• 0:56
  world with the Shanghai Acrobatic Troop.

  At 19, she came to America. Now picture the ACT if you

  haven't seen it. She's balancing on a towering
• 1:06
  unicycle about 7 feet tall in high heels.

  She flips bowls off her foot and they land on top of her head.

  One flip at a time. The stat gets taller.

  When she came to America, she made a 7 minute highlight reel,

  ordered 1000 VHS copies and mailed them to agents and venues

  all over the country. 1000 tapes and then nothing for a year.

  Then the day before Thanksgiving 1993, the phone rings.

  The Clippers halftime act fell through and someone remembered

  her tape from almost a year earlier.

  She was on a plane to LA. Within hours she remembers 4

  standing ovations. By the next season, she was

  booked at more than 40 NBA games.

  Want to know her success rate? By her own estimate, 75 to 80%

  of her shows are perfect, which means roughly one night and four

  a bowl hits the floor in front of the whole arena, and she gets

  back up on her unicycle anyway. In 2013, at age 42, already a

  legend in NBA arenas, she walks on to America's Got Talent and

  auditions like a beginner. She advances, and then she steps

  away to take care of her father, who has cancer.

  She comes back as a wild card and goes out in the semifinals.

  Her dad died in May 2014. After a year away, she went back

  to practice a bowl that fell caught under her wheel, and she

  went down hard and broke her arm. 10 more months gone.

  She came back in 2015 and she is booked at 60 to 80 halftime

  shows each year with a contract fee of $6765 for each 5 minute

  performance. You do the math.

  Then July 2025, Crystal fell at AWNBA game and fractured her

  wrist, requiring surgery. But by November she was back at

  it at an NBA halftime show in Chicago.

  She's not flawless. In spite of her track record of

  broken bowls and body parts. Her demand has only increased.
