- 0:00I'm Brandon. And I'm Jesse, we're cannabis.
- 0:02School having cannabis infused conversations with everyday
- 0:06people, cannabis companies. Celebrities.
- 0:09And your mom? Welcome.
- 0:11To the sash. So today's sash is just gonna be
- 0:16a little fun. We're gonna pop in on some
- 0:18career today. So good this is a really.
- 0:22Today's one of my kids birthdays and my mom just stopped by to
- 0:27drop off a birthday gift for her and I have been making balm and
- 0:33not that my mom uses but I have never had her smell bud until
- 0:37this morning that was the first time.
- 0:40I know dude, that was so funny. He just did it like, this is
- 0:43what I do all the time. And then you gave it to her and
- 0:44she's. Like how are you?
- 0:45And I'm like, great, I've just been smoking some bud this.
- 0:47How are you? How are you?
- 0:50I'm so glad I had that lemon juice because I could feel it.
- 0:52Heard the end. I'm like, OK, yeah, I'm not
- 0:54rambling anymore. All right, we got to go.
- 0:56I was just like that last strain, dude.
- 0:58It got me a little bit. San Fernando Valley OG from
- 1:02Firestar out in Nevada. That's good.
- 1:05It's it's really good. I still got a tube of it.
- 1:07So yeah, you got to I. Was impressed with that.
- 1:10It's very nice. It's very nice.
- 1:11I got to bring the ice cream cake we should do.
- 1:14I mean, we did ice cream cake a long time ago, but.
- 1:17Return of the cakes. Return of the cakes.
- 1:19Return the cakes. Return Oh cake.
- 1:23Cake would fit out of there. Return of the cake.
- 1:27I don't even know what that guy says.
- 1:29Return. Of the back.
- 1:30Yeah, the return of the he just, I always think of like when I
- 1:33hear it, I think of like a Muppet doing that.
- 1:36Yeah, 'cause like the guy looks like a Muppet.
- 1:38There's so many mumble people and mumble rap.
- 1:41Oh my God, that's the worst. My what are you guys even like?
- 1:43I get rap and I love the beats and stuff and I've listened to
- 1:47rap for a long time, but. Here's a random mumble.
- 1:50Rap. This just came ahead when you're
- 1:52talking about mumble rap. I saw this crazy video of this,
- 1:55like city worker or something. Guy has like a reflective vest
- 1:58and he's shooting at this guy with his pistol at the car.
- 2:02What the? Yeah, and the guy backs up and
- 2:06then he's going around with the gun and then they're all get out
- 2:08of the way. And you see this dude rutted
- 2:10this guy with a black T-shirt. And then the guy with the
- 2:12reflective vest sees it and starts running.
- 2:15And this guy has like one of those like a snow removal.
- 2:19Like a snow plow. Yeah, but it's like the one
- 2:21that's curved underneath like this, and it kind of kicks it
- 2:24up. So it has like kind of a blade
- 2:25in front. OK.
- 2:28Fucking hit this dude and I was like that's all I was thinking
- 2:32like I don't know why that's just randomly popped.
- 2:34That is a random thought. Fucking crazy.
- 2:37Wow. Yeah, that'd be terrifying.
- 2:38Could you imagine getting chased down by like a giant ass
- 2:41snowballow? Hey, but if you're shooting at
- 2:43somebody and you miss them, yeah, sorry, yeah, you lose.
- 2:47If they have a snowplace, like you've got to stop them.
- 2:50How many rounds? Yeah, dude, this is.
- 2:53Like extraordinary, like people doing that shit.
- 2:55Like, have you ever seen this one?
- 2:56I don't know what country it's in, it's either China or Japan
- 2:59or something, but there's this dude who's got like a knife.
- 3:03OK, I've got knives. To a woman's throat.
- 3:06Oh, not like. That and the cop like pulls it
- 3:08away from like this Chinese cut what whatever guy you know he's
- 3:12he's he grabs him and pulls a straight up like the coolest jiu
- 3:16jitsu. He does a flying arm bar.
- 3:18So a flying arm bar is from standing, you're holding the arm
- 3:21and then you jump while they're still standing.
- 3:24But when he did it, he was moving so quickly.
- 3:26The guy flipped with him and they landed and he disarmed him.
- 3:31That's insane. That was cool.
- 3:33Yeah, that's. Holy shit.
- 3:35Ninja skills right there. Fuck yeah, that's crazy.
- 3:39Oh man, Yeah, I don't have that flexibility for that skill set.
- 3:44You know, I thought like my friend Amanda, she she has
- 3:47scoliosis, but it was really bad.
- 3:50She has titanium rods and screws this lung to hold those rods
- 3:55into place so she can't bend over.
- 3:58Very far, I had learned. So when I got my X-rays done for
- 4:02my back, I learned that most humans have some mild form of
- 4:07scoliosis in some form or the other.
- 4:09That most people's spines aren't perfectly straight the way
- 4:12they're supposed to be. Mine has this weird I think it's
- 4:16from my hips but it's almost like it's curved slightly as it
- 4:20goes up. So I've also got this weird
- 4:23scoliosis with my cracked disk and that.
- 4:26But like like I said, I think almost every human has some some
- 4:31form of mild scoliosis and some form in the other.
- 4:34Yeah, well, I mean, it's just the overtime.
- 4:36I mean, you've got gravity, you've got degeneration, cause
- 4:42how? We sit how we walk like how we
- 4:44hold our muscles like do we stretch and fix things when they
- 4:48do get tight or? Yeah, we don't like, we don't do
- 4:50like a lot of people you see back in the day we're they were
- 4:53normally standing more often than not, or they do a lot of
- 4:55squatting, right? Just squatting down on your
- 4:58feet. That's something that you should
- 5:00be doing anyways. Apparently like just like in a
- 5:03squatting position on the ground, just sitting because you
- 5:06can gain balance and and a lot of like helping your pelvic
- 5:12floor to go down, which helps you with everything else
- 5:14apparently like. Interesting.
- 5:16And so it's, it's kind of cool, like, you know, just thinking
- 5:18about the basic things that little kids do keeps you
- 5:22healthy, but they're flexible as hell.
- 5:25Well, it's like when I went to China, every morning we would go
- 5:30out and play basketball. And while Alec and I were
- 5:33playing basketball, there were these huge group of Asian people
- 5:37there that would go out on the tennis courts and basketball
- 5:40courts and they would practice Tai chi or whatever it is.
- 5:43And like, it's interesting because I don't see a lot of
- 5:45older people in the Western civilization going out and
- 5:49stretching and moving, but they're also not able to move
- 5:52the same as I see these 8090 year old Asians who are all like
- 5:56hops moving around. I'm like, holy shit, like you
- 5:59got a lot going on for you. Dude, it the way I look at Tai
- 6:03chi, like, you know, a lot of people want to look at it like a
- 6:05martial art. And yeah, maybe you could use it
- 6:07as a martial art if somebody was very participating in it, you
- 6:10know, like they're like, hey, look, I'm going to hurt you, but
- 6:13I'm going to do it in an exact movement and I will tell you
- 6:17where it's coming from, OK. And like.
- 6:19Yeah, she just seems like it's a meditative yoga of sorts.
- 6:22That's why I was gonna say it's like, it's like kinetic yoga
- 6:26where it's not, you know, stabilizing and stuff.
- 6:29It's, it's very difficult. It's not easy.
- 6:32I I learned in high school, even.
- 6:34Yoga where I do it and I'm all thinking, oh, this shit's easy.
- 6:37I'm like, Oh no, actually some of these positions, holding it
- 6:40for 30 seconds is a pain. And then switching from that one
- 6:44into another one, holding that one for 30 seconds and
- 6:46switching. And you're just like, they're
- 6:48not always as easy as as we like to think.
- 6:51Like, oh, it's yoga that's easy shit.
- 6:53And it's like, oh. Oh, no, man.
- 6:54I mean, it's like what you're learning with the movement.
- 6:58You're going through each one when you're going like this,
- 7:01Like you're stretching the back of your arm and you're pushing.
- 7:05You're feeling it in your traps and then you're going this way.
- 7:09I mean, I remember like learning a lot of these men in high
- 7:12school, 'cause I, I, well, I was such a.
- 7:15Part of high school was. All of high school I was doing
- 7:18martial arts and Wing Chun and. Is that part?
- 7:20Is Tai chi part of that? Oh no, no, it was like really
- 7:23cool. Like there was a teacher in my
- 7:25school 'cause I did Wing Chun and I did a couple other martial
- 7:28arts and we had a substitute for our our psychology class and he
- 7:34brought in Jackie Chan movies from China for us to watch.
- 7:39And I was like, oh, I've seen this one.
- 7:40And he's like, no, you haven't. I'm like, yeah, I said, this is
- 7:43Drunken Master 2. And he's like, oh, do you know
- 7:46martial arts? So we started talking and he's
- 7:48like, I learned Tai chi in Beijing under a professor.
- 7:52And so he's like, that's cool. And he's like, well, how good
- 7:54are you? And I'm like, well, I'm OK.
- 7:56And he throws a punch at me. And then we get into this little
- 7:59skirmish right in front of all the other students.
- 8:01And everybody just went and roll.
- 8:03And I was like, it was cool because he had learned
- 8:05underneath the style. He did wushu as well, which just
- 8:08means like, kind of like martial arts.
- 8:09But wushu is like the cool, like, like the Hong Kong movies
- 8:13he's back in the day, like the fighting, like Jet Li, that's
- 8:17all wushu. And so he learned that and he
- 8:20learned Tai chi and he started teaching me Tai chi.
- 8:22Like after school, we'd get together in the gym and he was
- 8:25teaching me Tai chi and I was showing him what I knew of Wing
- 8:28Chun. And he was like, oh, this is so
- 8:30cool. Like it was, it was it was so
- 8:32much fun. I would love to do like a Wing
- 8:34Chun like, and this is the problem with martial arts for me
- 8:39is that martial arts is like a lot like religion.
- 8:42We're right, you're wrong. There's a dogma.
- 8:44And you can't just be there to share ideas.
- 8:46It's I'm better than you instead of going, what can I learn from
- 8:49you? And I've always had that
- 8:51mentality because I did Wing Chun and then I did Muay Thai,
- 8:55but before then I did Kempo and Taekwondo.
- 8:58And I mean, ever since I was really young.
- 9:01And then when the MMA thing started to come out, it was
- 9:04really young. They, it was more of seen as
- 9:07just like cock fighting. And I remember I saw one in
- 9:11Boise. Boise.
- 9:12Fuck. I don't know.
- 9:14You guys can correct me. Here he goes.
- 9:16It's not that it's not tomato. It's tomato.
- 9:21Tomato. Yeah, that's.
- 9:23But dude, martial arts over the years, it's just like, it
- 9:26doesn't even have that air about it.
- 9:28It's just like, oh, do you do martial arts?
- 9:30It's just like, oh, UFC, I'm just like, well, there's and
- 9:33they're like, oh, nothing as good as that one.
- 9:35I don't know. I've seen some guys who do this
- 9:37system I've always wanted to learn called Kyochin Karate.
- 9:41And it's like a hard body style where you can find videos of
- 9:46dudes breaking river rock with the edge of their hand one after
- 9:50another. Like they just put it over there
- 9:52and they go, you know, when the guys break bricks, I'm like, and
- 9:54it's impressive. This is river rock.
- 9:57This is ancient stone. And bricks have holes in their
- 10:01porous and it's a whole different thing to break that
- 10:03then, yeah. And they're just like bam, bam,
- 10:07bam. And then one guy the the guy who
- 10:09created it, he chops the top of the bottle off of a beer bottle
- 10:13with his hand like a clean break.
- 10:15Holy shit. He hit they'll they'll like do
- 10:18these kicks where they'll have these thick blocks of ice.
- 10:21They stack on top. There's like 9 of them and the
- 10:23guy hits it from the top and it's still like the way that
- 10:27they can control. I mean, that's where when you
- 10:29see shit like that, that's like energy, like it's beyond the
- 10:33physical. And I was always.
- 10:36Into mastery like and and this this is just my perspective.
- 10:41I'm not in that area. I feel like you get into the
- 10:44MMA, the UFC, it like you said, it's cock fighting.
- 10:48MMM. Dangerous dudes 100% yeah,
- 10:51they're fucking dangerous. But I look at the other ones as
- 10:55more of like art. It's a different float, the
- 10:58moves it looks different it almost.
- 11:00I can imagine it would feel different even practicing that
- 11:04too. Yeah.
- 11:05But the problem with it today I see in in traditional martial
- 11:07arts and why they're so looked down upon is that they have
- 11:10neutered these systems to the point of lawyers just thirsting
- 11:15to fuck somebody up if they get hurt at one of these things.
- 11:18That's part of it. Like when I learned it was
- 11:20during a time where, yeah, you would see another martial artist
- 11:23as a competitor, but you would want to see if they were worth
- 11:25their salt. Could you really use it?
- 11:29And it was open, and I trained on concrete floors, no pads, no
- 11:33cups. And you learned.
- 11:36Were people sue happy and your day growing up?
- 11:38No. See, I don't remember hearing
- 11:41about a lot of sewing, but I remember growing up and my
- 11:44parents are like, Oh no, we can't get a trampoline because
- 11:48people are sue happy. We don't want like it's a high
- 11:50risk liability for that and so we never had a trampoline till I
- 11:54was like 16. It was typically like in your
- 11:57middle income to higher income individuals that were worried
- 12:01about SU happy people. But where I grew up in a very
- 12:04poor community, it wasn't like that.
- 12:07Nobody cared. Like the only thing that you
- 12:09knew that it was going to happen was I have to take care of this.
- 12:12Nobody else can take care of this but me, right?
- 12:15And it and it was just because of the circumstance.
- 12:17I never knew that that's all I grew up in until until we went
- 12:21down to Mexico and that and I was like, holy shit, there's
- 12:24like real poverty in this world. Not just what I've seen on TV.
- 12:29Yeah. And that's like not even like
- 12:30India poverty, you know what I mean?
- 12:32Like there's a guy in my in my neighborhood and he has half of,
- 12:37he's got 1/4 of his employees that are based out of India.
- 12:40Yeah. And he goes there once a quarter
- 12:42to make sure that things are going well for them.
- 12:44He's a really stand up guy, Andrew Civilly, he's the CEO of
- 12:48e-learning Brothers. Such a cool guy.
- 12:51And he's like, you've never seen poverty as disgusting as it
- 12:56could be down there and how people still treat one another
- 13:00from ancient systems of casts. And it's really, you know, it,
- 13:05it truly is like that. I've never seen, I've seen, I've
- 13:08seen poverty in many different levels.
- 13:11But Tijuana when I went like 14 wasn't bad.
- 13:14Tijuana was like, oh, this is like poor, but it was still
- 13:18civilized to an extent. Like, and then it wasn't until I
- 13:22went, I was 16, I did my Eagle project down in Mexico and we
- 13:28went out to these orphanages that were outside of Mexico City
- 13:31in these really small towns. And they're horrendously
- 13:36disgusting. Like it's not kept up.
- 13:38It's not very clean. The kids bathe in their drinking
- 13:43water, they play in their drinking water like it's
- 13:46everything is. So we went down and we brought
- 13:48school supplies and clothes and painted and cleaned their school
- 13:53and helped clean their kitchen and stuff so that the place that
- 13:56they were in was better than it was.
- 13:59But to see that and like how they were living and heading to,
- 14:03there were just like homes made out of plywood or cardboard or a
- 14:07piece of sheet metal and stuff. And like, it wasn't anything I
- 14:11ever would have considered a home.
- 14:13And I was like, holy shit, like this is a whole different
- 14:16reality than anything I ever imagined.
- 14:19And that was like one of the best experiences of my life was
- 14:22going down to these orphanages. We went to two different ones
- 14:25and just realizing how much I had taken for granted and, and
- 14:30still do, like every day going like this little kid still
- 14:34sticks with me every day like I go down.
- 14:37We were walking him through this line.
- 14:39We'd help him pick out like school supplies and clothes and,
- 14:42and they got only so much. And then they'd, you know, we'd
- 14:45get another kid and walk them through because there was a ton
- 14:47of kids. And this one kid comes with me
- 14:49and I walk him through. And then after I walk him
- 14:52through, he wants to go show me. He's like dominoes, dominoes.
- 14:55And I walk with him and, and he walks me over and he's got this
- 14:58little hole in the dirt in the ground over on their property
- 15:02somewhere. And he's hit another little
- 15:04stack of clothes that he got like, look, Oh my God, I got 2
- 15:07sets. And I'm like, this kid is just
- 15:09so ecstatic because he's got 2 pencils or, or like 4 pencils
- 15:13and two notebooks and, and like just two sets of it.
- 15:16And I was like, this is nothing like truly, this was nothing.
- 15:21And this kid is just over the moon with like what's in front
- 15:27of him, what he's been presented with.
- 15:29And he was just so happy and they, and I'd never seen that.
- 15:32And I was like, how selfish am I with all of my day-to-day shit
- 15:36where it's but it's the world that we've known where it's
- 15:38like, oh, I need this or I need this and and I'll be happy once
- 15:42I have this. And these kids were so
- 15:44incredibly happy and they had nothing, absolutely nothing.
- 15:48Yeah, it's kind of funny too, because mental illness in that
- 15:52in that type of society is extremely low and and a lot of
- 15:55it, man. I mean, I, I get what you're
- 15:56saying right there. You know, I want to, I hear you.
- 15:59I hear you man, how that feels like, where inside you're like,
- 16:03well, how am I deserving of this life?
- 16:05Yeah, what the hell did I do? Then, and that's the thing, it's
- 16:09to always remember that that you, it's not that you should be
- 16:14appreciative, is that just know that you are.
- 16:17And when there's times of any type of thing that you can do
- 16:22for someone else anytime, no matter what small things, you
- 16:26know, spreading that goodness perpetuates it in a way that's
- 16:30so much more powerful than any negative approach in society,
- 16:35right? Like the one thing that I know
- 16:37that I true, I, I, I try to have every single day is thinking
- 16:40about not just being grateful for him, but knowing that I
- 16:43should serve others just because.
- 16:46Just because it feels good, right?
- 16:47It did. There was nothing that kid would
- 16:49ever do for me or could ever do. Nor should it be that.
- 16:53But it was this thing of like I get to help this person who
- 16:58didn't ask for it. He had no no way of going, hey,
- 17:02I need these are going. This would make a difference in
- 17:04my life. He had no idea, 'cause like I
- 17:07said, there's no mental illness like the mental illness down
- 17:09there is way left because it's they are happy with what they
- 17:13have. I was just Alec.
- 17:14I was talking to Alec. He went to Seattle just for work
- 17:17recently and he was riding next to this lady.
- 17:20And I think he said he would, She was from Zimbabwe.
- 17:23Oh, cool. And he was asking her how long
- 17:25she'd been out here and what had been like.
- 17:26And, and then he asked her if she was happy out there.
- 17:30Like what, what she noticed here.
- 17:31And she's like, you know, what I noticed coming to the US is how
- 17:34incredibly unhappy you guys are with so much.
- 17:38You guys have so much space, so much stuff in all your space.
- 17:41You guys have so many things just surrounding you all the
- 17:44time. And you guys are miserable.
- 17:46Yep. And Alec was like, were you more
- 17:49happy in Zimbabwe? And she's like, yeah, there was
- 17:51nothing around, but nothing mattered.
- 17:53Like none of those things mattered.
- 17:54It didn't equate to happiness. Tomorrow was a good day, you
- 17:59know what I mean? Like it's the concept of that.
- 18:02It's like, you know when you it's not surviving because it's
- 18:05not what you think survival is right now people go survival is
- 18:09I make my own food, right? I have to make my like, you hear
- 18:13that? I have to make my own food.
- 18:14Now what? Yeah.
- 18:16Right, Wait a minute. I mean, you can do really basic
- 18:19stuff with just patience and time and you can make extremely
- 18:23healthy meals, right, But it's exactly what you stated there.
- 18:25It's you know, that story is perfect of being able to say
- 18:30that we're unhappy because we've been taught that tomorrow is too
- 18:35far away and you you'll never get there.
- 18:38Or that tomorrow is what you're living for.
- 18:40Yeah, and working for. But you'll never get to there.
- 18:42Yeah, you'll never get there because it's just like, well, it
- 18:45doesn't matter what do tomorrow because I have to do it again
- 18:47the next day. And you wake up again today, and
- 18:50it's still today. You never wake up again and it's
- 18:52tomorrow. So now you insert your story,
- 18:55right? You went to serve to serve.
- 18:58At first it was just like, OK, this is going to be an
- 19:00experience, but you're never prepared for the feeling that
- 19:03you will. It will last you forever.
- 19:06It will be unshaken. You will remember every detail
- 19:09of it till the last time your brain can or until you stop
- 19:13breathing, right? And in that memory, you think
- 19:16about that, what that impact does to that person because for
- 19:20them, they realize that giving is so much more.
- 19:23And what cool thing is, is it that kid didn't once say no, no,
- 19:28no, I don't deserve this. And I think that what why we do
- 19:32that in our first world problems is because subconsciously we
- 19:36feel guilty because we know we haven't done enough of this.
- 19:40We're never when I how. Often are we giving help that we
- 19:43fill just because for help dude. Like I, I got a friend, he's got
- 19:48this new company he's trying to build and he's kind of, he's
- 19:53kind of fucked himself with his name.
- 19:55And so he's just got this really great product that can help him.
- 19:59And he's like, I don't know how I can get this going.
- 20:02And he's freaking out and I'm like, well, I'll help you.
- 20:04I'm like, I'll just make phone calls for it.
- 20:06I said I can't do a ton of them as I'll give you like 20 a week.
- 20:09But if it sells as easily as you say it, well, I mean, I, I have
- 20:13No Fear of calling people. I'm down with that.
- 20:15I'll interrupt them. And he's like, OK, and I'm like
- 20:19your app ready to go. And he's like, Yep, it's soon to
- 20:21be ready. I'm like OK.
- 20:23Let me know. And he's just like, I, I can't
- 20:25pay you right now. And I'm like, I don't care.
- 20:28You know, what if somebody believed in your dream so much
- 20:33that they say, I don't care what it's going to take.
- 20:35I don't care if there's money made right now.
- 20:38But I I do this because I want you to feel the kindness that
- 20:43you should share with others because then now you have more
- 20:47to live for. Because that feeling of
- 20:51happiness is the best way to describe it with words.
- 20:55But that feeling is like it, it really is, dude.
- 20:58It feels like you got like a nuclear power plant.
- 21:00Inside you gonna say? I think that's probably one of
- 21:03the first times I experienced true joy.
- 21:06But you could do that every day. 100% And but like before, when I
- 21:10was serving, it was always like, oh, this is a service project.
- 21:13This is for this, this is this. We're going out as young men in
- 21:16the ward to go help this person. We're doing this because of a
- 21:19reward is gonna come. It was great.
- 21:21Like it, it still feels good to help someone.
- 21:23But yeah, that was a whole different first thing of like, I
- 21:28never saw it the same. And that moment, like you said,
- 21:31it sticks with you. It ingrains in your mind and
- 21:34sense it. I'm like, I would love to go
- 21:36back to places like that to do things like that.
- 21:39Not because I have to, but because I, I can, because I want
- 21:43to help another person, another human who doesn't know or need
- 21:48or or ask or like they live in this world of such bliss and
- 21:52ignorance that they are happy and where they're at the the
- 21:55state that they're in is all they need.
- 21:58Not thinking they need anything more because they're not,
- 22:01they're not Western civilization.
- 22:03They don't have this. Totally.
- 22:05Life that they've grown up in. If I, if I can propose something
- 22:08else though as well, please. Pebble in a pawn, my friend.
- 22:12Follow the ripples. What can we do here?
- 22:15And then how's that impact? Maybe a listener somewhere else
- 22:19where we have all these pebbles being dropped and we're being
- 22:23able to hit more square footage and then being able to do the
- 22:27exact same thing because you understand that selflessness can
- 22:30be exactly where you are. That helps to perpetuate other
- 22:34people to do this. Travel the world to do it, and
- 22:37that's what I realized is but. You can do that and travel the
- 22:40world too, because that example, like I feel the same way, you
- 22:44know, I do. I'm like, dude, I've been so
- 22:46blessed in my life to feel that to what I experience as as the
- 22:52hand of God in my life because other people are serving me for
- 22:56no reason whatsoever. They're not doing it to get
- 22:58other good things. And you can tell that, right?
- 23:01If somebody shows up to your house with the plate of cookies
- 23:03just because you moved into the neighborhood and that's the last
- 23:05time you saw him two years ago, they were doing that out of
- 23:08guilt because I am doing this for a reward because this is
- 23:12what I've been told to do instead of what I feel that God
- 23:17taught us is that you do these things not to be close to me,
- 23:21but to be like me because I share the same love with you.
- 23:25And the only way that we can get this is this travels across
- 23:28dimensions and time. I don't feel like you know, like
- 23:31how you know, and, and I'll say something here.
- 23:34It probably could get me in trouble, but who gives a shit it
- 23:37in this little trouble? Fuck off.
- 23:40But you know what I mean? It's I don't believe in this
- 23:43veil between me and what is to come.
- 23:47This is a an experience and and my life is better and your life
- 23:51is better. When we exchange love with
- 23:54others unconditionally, we hold very ill will towards people to
- 23:59a minimum. And if we do, we know what that
- 24:02anger is. It's our guilt of being angry
- 24:05with them, judging them and just going fuck it, got to let it go.
- 24:09It's cool and is that is a joyous time.
- 24:13That's that feeling that you're talking about.
- 24:15I want to feel that every day. And it is hard in our world
- 24:18because for other places it's a roaring fire of community for
- 24:22us. We're like in a dark cave with
- 24:25fucking two rocks and just trying to get these sparks going
- 24:29off. Well, we all feel alone.
- 24:31We all feel like stranded in our own islands of stress and
- 24:35despair and anxiety going fuck, I can't confide in my partner,
- 24:41my friend, whatever with this because I am so encompassed,
- 24:45overwhelmed with this that I know they can't handle this as
- 24:48well. This is going to be too much.
- 24:50And we all just sit in our own little private hell.
- 24:54Yeah, and that's how I'm like it's, it's been interesting
- 24:58because the further I've gotten from religion, the the concept
- 25:02of hell and heaven, I'm like those are all internal inside
- 25:04us. I think we put ourselves to our
- 25:07own Gethsemane through our own like eternal bliss moments of.
- 25:11The thing that most of the time we forget is that was said is
- 25:15that the Kingdom of God is in with us.
- 25:18So the only thing that we have and and what does that mean?
- 25:22Unfiltered, unregulated love. That's it.
- 25:26Just love. You know, when you have love,
- 25:29you don't have rules. You have an understanding.
- 25:32When you have love, you don't have opposition, you have you
- 25:37have understand. I just I don't know that many of
- 25:40us grew up with real love. No, I we can change that. 100% I
- 25:46was talking with my mom yesterday because she's like,
- 25:48oh, you should come to this business lunch with me.
- 25:50And I'm like, sure, I've got time.
- 25:51Yeah, I'll go business lunch with you.
- 25:53And so I went and it was fucking freezing.
- 25:56So we went and sat in her car and just chatted, but we were
- 26:00talking about a lot of that. And she was like, oh, you know,
- 26:03I, I think I became a shell of myself as soon as I got married
- 26:06and this started happening and, and I never found out who I was.
- 26:10And I'm sorry for like all these moments where I saw this and I
- 26:14wasn't there. And I was like, you know, what
- 26:15I've realized is I know through life way more of who you guys
- 26:19were and where you came from and what you were dealing with and
- 26:23navigating and, and as a person and as a parent, I have a lot
- 26:27more empathy and understanding for where you were in that time.
- 26:31I don't hold that against you at all for being young and getting
- 26:36married and having kids right away going, hey, well, I have no
- 26:39idea who I am. I still have no idea anything
- 26:41about me. Now I'm married and trying to
- 26:43figure out someone else's emotions that I don't truly know
- 26:46where I know how to understand. I know I brought someone else in
- 26:49this world and oh shit, now I'm trying to navigate all that in
- 26:52here and like there's no time that anyone has taken to go.
- 26:55Hey, all right, let me figure out me.
- 26:57Let me figure out my traumas. Let me figure out how to
- 26:59navigate this so I can do this in an effective way moving
- 27:02forward. It's just like, oh shit, this is
- 27:05life and here we go. So buckle up.
- 27:07Better Cup? Isn't that funny though?
- 27:09Because before, like long time ago, like when you had a child,
- 27:14the community had a child, right?
- 27:16And so now we're in these isolated bubbles of anxiety and
- 27:20fear and stress because it's all on us, feeling alone 100%, you
- 27:24know, to judge. I mean, you know, the sins of
- 27:26the past are only remembered by those who remember them.
- 27:29And when we as people can let go of our own transgressions
- 27:33because that holds us back a lot, right?
- 27:35If we can let go of that, then we don't judge others as much.
- 27:39I noticed that the more I forgave myself, the more I just,
- 27:43you know, like there's a, there's people in your life that
- 27:46will do shitty things. They'll do shitty things to you
- 27:48and others around you. But the shittiest thing that I
- 27:52can do is treat them the same and just going, hey, you're
- 27:56hurt. That's OK.
- 27:58And it's even harder to think like, well, like I just, I don't
- 28:02know why I bring this up, but it's just like, you know, where
- 28:04people will say like, well, if there's a God that wires all
- 28:06their suffering, why is all this going on?
- 28:09And it's a hard answer. And the only thing I can think
- 28:12about right now is what I've been pondering through, and
- 28:14that's the book of Job. And how fucked up is this story
- 28:18where God and Satan make a bet about Job, but Job stays
- 28:23faithful to God despite what is happening because you can't have
- 28:29rented faith. And by that is what a lot of
- 28:31people have because that's what they've been taught and and
- 28:35rented faith is, is that I only do these good things because I
- 28:38am promised something and my life will be fruitful because I
- 28:41do these good things. But when is not?
- 28:44Yes, but in those moments, and I think that's where we miss out
- 28:49is like that story is like, oh, only goodwill happen to me If
- 28:54this that's that's the Idiocracy.
- 28:58There is like, oh, only goodwill happen if I'm good.
- 29:01No, no, life is hard. Life is changed.
- 29:04There was a hair. I got a quote on the top of my
- 29:08tea and it said the only constant in life is change.
- 29:12And that's the quote by her Cletus, I believe.
- 29:15And I was like, you know, that's true.
- 29:17And yet we're so afraid of change.
- 29:18We fight change constantly, and yet change is the only constant
- 29:23that we know. Dude, that's that's why memento
- 29:27Mori is so important. For tomorrow we die.
- 29:30Yeah, who cares? It's like it doesn't matter.
- 29:33Who the fuck cares? We're going to be dead tomorrow.
- 29:36Let's go. Let's go.
- 29:37Today is the only time we have and tell that person you love
- 29:41them. Give them a hug.
- 29:42Like whatever it is, today is the day.
- 29:45Yeah, it's exactly that. And then, you know, it's, it's
- 29:48awesome because I'm feeling that energy now, right, You know?
- 29:51Thanks. Jack Rare.
- 29:52Yeah, this is this is bad ass. But I'm also feeling like, you
- 29:55know, in this room with us, it's like, you know, we hold on to
- 29:59these tensions in our life that make us feel like we're alone
- 30:02and more alone and more alone. But sometimes the best way to be
- 30:05able to help others just to share.
- 30:08And that's the cool part. And in not in a way where it
- 30:11feels like, you know, you're confessing, you know, the, the,
- 30:16the act of confession has been turned into something where you
- 30:19did bad and now you need to atone for it.
- 30:22But that's not what confession is, not even close.
- 30:25It is just an acknowledgement that you want to change.
- 30:29That's it. Well, and I think with sorry, I
- 30:31read this book called Educated by Tara Westover the last couple
- 30:36days and it was just interesting to hear like through the book
- 30:41just kind of how she has approached being honest or open,
- 30:44even with family or friends or having real conversations.
- 30:48It just about what's really going on.
- 30:50And it kind of made me think about it in that comment as well
- 30:53of like, we don't really allow that relationship to grow if we
- 30:57don't really share the emotion, the hardship, the struggle, the
- 31:01whatever. If we're only surface level
- 31:03deep, if it's, oh, you know, how's the weather, how's this,
- 31:06you know, good life. It's there's nothing below the
- 31:09surface of like this is what's actually going on.
- 31:11These are my struggles. And then it allows them to feel
- 31:14your pain and connect and go, all right, you shared something
- 31:16vulnerable with me. Let me let me open up and share
- 31:20something more about me and that allows that relationship to
- 31:24build and connect and grow and deepen and like that's what
- 31:27we're all wanting, but also afraid of at the same time of
- 31:30like, well, if I. I don't want you to see me.
- 31:32Yeah. But I think it's because so much
- 31:35of our lives, we've been told that whatever version we thought
- 31:38we were or wanted to be or were in that moment, our parent, our
- 31:42friend, our sibling or whatever partner, whoever was like, oh,
- 31:46don't do that or you can't act that way or oh, that's in
- 31:49whatever it was. It was annoying, it was dumb.
- 31:51It was, you know, us that we felt we were was not lovable
- 31:56basically in that moment. And I think it sucks because
- 32:00it's all of us really want to feel just truly lovable as who
- 32:04we are as a person, not whatever actions we're doing at that
- 32:08moment, but truly just the deep down person of just being seen.
- 32:12It's like, Hey, you know, and I think not many of us truly get
- 32:16that or have got that a lot through our lives.
- 32:19And it's just wondering, you know, what that must feel like.
- 32:22But it's it has that fear attached with it.
- 32:25Like, oh, well, there's this friend or this person and I
- 32:27really, really want to share this.
- 32:29But like, I've been shown all of this conditional or whatever
- 32:33love that was like, well, I love this version of you.
- 32:36I don't love this version. I I love this version of you.
- 32:39I don't love this version. And it's like, OK, so, so this
- 32:43version of me is lovable, but this version isn't lovable.
- 32:47So I can't be this version of me.
- 32:49I have to be this version to be lovable.
- 32:52And that becomes this really shitty fear that, you know,
- 32:55follows us through our whole life of like, man, I, I can't be
- 32:59me because my friends, my family, whoever showed me that
- 33:04that person isn't lovable. So I had to become whatever
- 33:09version was acceptable or lovable or like, oh, I can
- 33:12tolerate you now like. But you should you know that The
- 33:16thing is, it's so hard. I I get that.
- 33:19And I know you grew up in such a different world than I did.
- 33:22And yet we grew up only cities away and.
- 33:26Kind of the same city at the same time.
- 33:28Yeah, exactly. Like and it it just see what I
- 33:31experienced was it, I knew all of that when I was younger.
- 33:35Like this is all performative. This is all performative.
- 33:38This isn't real connection and yet it was all manufactured.
- 33:42I I didn't have good experiences in this in the LDS church when I
- 33:46was younger. Not at all.
- 33:48I got I, I was bullied a lot because of my my race, which is
- 33:52just weird because I'm white. Yeah, you look white as shit.
- 33:55Yeah, you know, but because I had a Hispanic last name and I
- 33:59was a lot darker at the time because I'm older, I don't get
- 34:01out in the sun as much, you know, It's, you know, I got
- 34:04picked on a lot. And it was not because they,
- 34:08this was a place of God. This was a place of judgement
- 34:12for those of just had already sat on that seat and condemned
- 34:16me and my family. And that was the thing that I
- 34:21knew right away. I didn't know this bliss that
- 34:24all these other and I, I mean I hate to say it like that, but it
- 34:27was just all the white kids knew how it was.
- 34:30I was 1/2 breed and I stuck out like a sore thumb.
- 34:32Well, it was Utah. That's all there was was a
- 34:35handful of people who weren't white.
- 34:37Exactly. And it was different, but at the
- 34:39same time, I didn't hate them because I was always taught to
- 34:42just be cool with them anyways. Like don't worry about them.
- 34:45And if they push that line, that's where all the martial
- 34:47arts came in. Like that's why I got into it.
- 34:50I got beat up by a Tongan kid when I was like in first grade.
- 34:53Oh my God. And my dad's like, you know, all
- 34:56of his immigrant must. I mean, that guy was, he was
- 35:00bad. He had, he worked three jobs
- 35:02just to keep us afloat when we were kids.
- 35:04Like he would literally like sleep 3 or 4 hours a night
- 35:06maybe. And then he would go to one part
- 35:09time job to another part time job, to a full time job.
- 35:11And then he went to school too, to learn English while he was
- 35:15doing that. That's got to be such a weight
- 35:18on his shoulders to think I've got to do this and I've got to
- 35:21do this and I've got to do this. Like just to provide and try and
- 35:25learn to fit in with where he's at so we can understand better.
- 35:29And people didn't like you because of who you were.
- 35:32Yeah. Oh, you're that is the most
- 35:34like. I have never understood that.
- 35:36Well, I understand it totally because it's different and when
- 35:40and it's because a lot of the the, the mentality of judgement.
- 35:44I mean, but it's just like a difference of hey.
- 35:46Well, we understand. Where that came from here in
- 35:48Utah and to me, I've never comprehended like that aspect of
- 35:53it because I'm like, I don't feel like they're any different
- 35:56than me than you, than the person next door.
- 35:59Like I don't give a shit what color like.
- 36:02Good, that's Grandma. Yeah, 100%.
- 36:04I mean, Grandpa, he was, he was funny when he would say things
- 36:09and, and the Negroes over here and I was just like, Oh my gosh.
- 36:13Yeah, Grandma's. I and grandma never trusted
- 36:16anybody who was dark skinned. We I went to Cafe Rio.
- 36:21I went to Cafe Rio with Grandma Holt and my parents and she gets
- 36:27in line with and she's ordering her food.
- 36:30And she was like, oh, I'll have the black beans.
- 36:33And I'm like, Grandma, you can't say that.
- 36:34We call them colored beans. Now.
- 36:36She's like, oh, I'll have the colored beans.
- 36:38It's like, because I would always fuck with Grandma and I'd
- 36:43be talking about something. She's like, what did you say?
- 36:45I'm like, I can't tell you. And she's like, what?
- 36:47I'm like, I'll tell you when you're older.
- 36:48But you know, it's funny though, you know, we could look at that
- 36:51time and going fucking racist motherfuckers.
- 36:54But then all you have to say is just like, you know what?
- 36:57They were doing whatever was being perpetually taught at that
- 37:00time. It's just passed down and and
- 37:02while it's shitty, it's no, but it's been passed down.
- 37:06But it's, it's a, it's a good thing though, because if we've
- 37:09gone through that, then we know what not to do.
- 37:13As long as we can learn from our mistakes. 100% and and The thing
- 37:17is, is that what creates more divide is entertainment, right?
- 37:22Give them the circus and bread and the circus and bread in our
- 37:25time is social media. 100% right?
- 37:28We perpetuate hate A. 100%. We perpetuate hate.
- 37:32We celebrate hate. You know what we do to celebrate
- 37:35our hate? We we, we burn.
- 37:36We burn buildings down. We find a vision instead of just
- 37:41going. All the comments too, yeah.
- 37:43Like there's so much just. Anger, right?
- 37:45And and that is that is manufactured, right.
- 37:50I, I don't judge other people what I've loved and I'll shut
- 37:53up. One of the greatest things that
- 37:55I got to experience at, at this what I call shape matching,
- 37:58everybody let go of their identity when they were there.
- 38:01There wasn't. I can't talk to this race or
- 38:04that race. I can just be my shape.
- 38:07Coolest thing happened. This guy, he's an Octagon.
- 38:11He looks like he's probably from the Philippines or something.
- 38:13I don't know, Maybe Korea. I couldn't tell.
- 38:15It was a lot of people and it's a bar and he was.
- 38:18OK, I couldn't. I'm not great at telling where
- 38:20people are from. Yeah, no, I'm like, hey, where
- 38:23are you from? I don't want to guess.
- 38:24Just fucking tell me. Well, and this other girl, she
- 38:26looked like she either grown up here on the East Coast.
- 38:29Yeah, this white, white woman over here.
- 38:32This is the most unlikely match that society would say this
- 38:35would work. But they met there based on the
- 38:37shape. And when I told him to do, and I
- 38:39said, here's your profile and this tells about a couple things
- 38:42about you. And on the back, here's some
- 38:44things that other people can ask about you.
- 38:46And I want you to trade profiles.
- 38:48And they would trade them. And then this woman read on
- 38:51there that he's a really good listener and she tested it and
- 38:55she got so excited. She was telling us on the
- 38:57microphone at the end of the night.
- 38:59So I was so excited because it was so accurate.
- 39:02He was listening to me. And then I knew when he would be
- 39:06excited about things and what to ask.
- 39:09It was like I fast forwarded like a month of a first date.
- 39:12Of shitty dating experiences to a.
- 39:14Really good connection and the coolest thing, brother, they
- 39:17were just like they were staring at each other.
- 39:20You know that look when people are in love and they are just
- 39:24staring at each other like. A tractor.
- 39:26I think it's because they actually, in that moment, felt
- 39:29seen. Yes, that's a common saying.
- 39:32And that's what that is. I've heard that you see me if.
- 39:35You feel seen. It's that little kid going holy
- 39:37shit, I wasn't told I couldn't do this.
- 39:39I wasn't told, hey, you have to change to be this version.
- 39:42Hey, only this side is lovable. It was like, holy shit, no, I'm
- 39:46OK. Just like me.
- 39:48Yeah, I can be me. Well, dude, it's like when we're
- 39:51little kids like a called sand a sandcastle theory where what you
- 39:55can do is you put two kids in in and give them buckets and just
- 39:58say make a sandcastle, nothing's going to be wrong.
- 40:02Yeah, because we're just here. When they just create as kids.
- 40:05That and you can shape it and move it anywhere you want.
- 40:07It doesn't have to be set in stone.
- 40:10And as they start doing this, they don't judge each other.
- 40:12It's the kid with the blue pail and the kid with the red pail.
- 40:15But we're the same. Yeah.
- 40:17And when you took what? I took their names away and I
- 40:20gave them the shapes. They were just engaging on that.
- 40:24But that couple. And then I saw another couple
- 40:27and I told the woman, I said, you're going to want to talk to
- 40:29this kind of guy. And I said, you're going to want
- 40:31to talk to this type of woman. I said, I don't want you to see
- 40:34this or this. I just want you to see the
- 40:37shape. And when you feel the
- 40:39connection, then you'll know if all this works for you, too.
- 40:42And if that does, I just speed up three months of connection
- 40:48where I allowed you to take away who you are, what gets in your
- 40:51way in your head of why I can't connect with other people, why I
- 40:54can't make friends with other people, Right.
- 40:57You're good with it. I'm good with it.
- 40:59A lot of other people out there are not good with it.
- 41:02Really not good with. It see, I always feel like I'm a
- 41:05very quiet introverted person. And then Emily or my kids are
- 41:10like, Dad, you talk to everybody, you're always talk.
- 41:12And I'm like, I, I don't feel like I.
- 41:14Remember when you first came networking?
- 41:16With me, me too. You were like and then it got
- 41:18kind of businessy, but then the other ones I kept bringing you
- 41:22and I'm like, this is what I do and you're just like, you mean
- 41:25just be me? Yeah, I much rather be me.
- 41:28I hate going cuz it's like going out selling.
- 41:31I can sell just fine if I can be me, yeah.
- 41:36If I have to go and be someone else, I can't.
- 41:38I can't do that. I can do accents so it depends
- 41:41on what it, but that's usually. Still trying to do that, so it's
- 41:44just. Me fucking around because I'm
- 41:46like, oh, I'm having fun with this, I'm just enjoying this and
- 41:49to me I'm just playing. See, and that's what it should
- 41:51be. I mean, again, you're a kid, you
- 41:54know, and other people want to be kids too.
- 41:56And when you allow them to be like, hey, I'm going to remove
- 41:59the stigma of class, class or money or whatever that means it
- 42:04doesn't, it doesn't really mean anything, right?
- 42:06If I have copious amounts of money and I'm in a Society of
- 42:11need, who am I to continue to keep that?
- 42:14I get, I get where other rich people are talking like that's
- 42:17mine. I made it and I get it.
- 42:19But what greater impact? I mean, what wealth can you
- 42:22obtain by just asking others to help others too and show that
- 42:27you can do it? It begins to not be, hey, we're
- 42:30over here serving people. We just want to know how awesome
- 42:34we are. We got money from all you
- 42:36fuckers to give it to these people, but we're only giving
- 42:39this much, but we're keeping the rest.
- 42:41Anyways, let's get into it. And like I've told you, I'm
- 42:43like, as soon as we can, we start going out, we start doing
- 42:46servitude. We're not recording this shit,
- 42:48you know, because we're, we really want to be able to do
- 42:50that. And, and the only reason is not
- 42:52because I'm a Jesus freak. It's because man, the best
- 42:56feeling ever is serving others when they don't expect it.
- 43:00And the amount of gratitude what you do, you are making a bigger
- 43:06impact in this world than any hateful thing, any any
- 43:09disparaging thing you could think of.
- 43:11When you do this, you are helping to create a better
- 43:15world. You want peace?
- 43:17Start doing things like this. You want less racism?
- 43:20Start doing things like this. You want to start being upset
- 43:23about who thinks they're what and who comes.
- 43:26It doesn't matter. This is a meat skin.
- 43:30This is a sleeve. It's a meat suit.
- 43:32Yeah, I don't care because it will go away someday.
- 43:35It's falling apart every day. But I care about this connection
- 43:40that I have with other people. And that was just like, man, it
- 43:44was so cool because what we're talking about right now, like it
- 43:47really just strips away this identity that we think we have
- 43:51to have. What I call the ego.
- 43:53Yeah, right. The ego, Ego.
- 43:55That's where I didn't understand ego death with like psilocybin
- 43:59and all that other stuff until I let understood what it was.
- 44:03And the ego is the personality that we go out and share with
- 44:06the world. We try to be the tough.
- 44:09Guy thing we hold on to of. Like, well, who doesn't want to
- 44:12be the hero? Like, I was at this event and
- 44:15there was these guys and they're like, Oh, yeah, I'm.
- 44:17I'm just like you. No, I'm on the microphone.
- 44:20You haven't, you haven't even tried to go out there.
- 44:23You've been standing in the corner.
- 44:24You are not that. And that's OK.
- 44:27But not everybody is a hero. Everybody's a part of what what
- 44:31McClain would love me saying. We're a part of this DND party.
- 44:35Everybody there has an ability and a skill that contributes to
- 44:40the greater good. That's what I love about that
- 44:42nerdy world. That's so cool.
- 44:44It's like, oh, you're a wizard or I'm a barbarian.
- 44:46It's the community, yeah. Or a family that trucks
- 44:50together, you know? And it's like finding those
- 44:52commonalities and similarities versus like, oh, the
- 44:55differences. Yeah.
- 44:56It's like, Oh no, we're all, everyone's fucking weird.
- 45:00Yeah. But in their own way.
- 45:01But then shift it now instead of differences, their superpowers.
- 45:05What is your super? If I look at you as I know your
- 45:08abilities like Brandon is astute to time and order and making
- 45:14sure things get done when they need to be done.
- 45:17Like you are the heart of an engine.
- 45:20You make things go, you really do.
- 45:23And I know that your superpower, now you could tell me all of
- 45:26your iniquities, all of the shit that you've done, all the things
- 45:29that you think badly about yourself.
- 45:31But I know that you're the heart of the engine.
- 45:33Your superpower is to know things and how they work.
- 45:37And you do that so well. But the things that we pile on
- 45:41top is that, well, I need to do this and I need to know you
- 45:44don't. You focus on what you do and
- 45:48that will take you further than anything else.
- 45:51Just like you said, like I get to be me.
- 45:53Do that though, completely and everything and just saying,
- 45:56yeah, I'm going to do. I am victim of that recently
- 45:59just kind of looking and like, why am I not performing the way
- 46:02I need to perform? Like I sound like I'd be a
- 46:04pretty great sales person, right?
- 46:06And I'm fucking up. Why?
- 46:07Because I'm trying to be somebody else.
- 46:10And I, you know, and it's at a real like hard push time, but
- 46:14I've been doing it more. I've just been like, hey, I'm
- 46:17here to joke around. I'm going to have a good time
- 46:19with you and I don't care. I don't care.
- 46:23I'm I'm not worried about I'm more worried that I don't make a
- 46:26connection. It would hurt me more to know
- 46:29that I made you, not made you feel salesy, but worse would be
- 46:33to make you feel like connecting with other humans is just maybe
- 46:37not for you. Yeah, that's my responsibility
- 46:40when I interact with somebody. And so I'm doing that in behalf
- 46:43of the next person that they meet.
- 46:44Not the human race, just the next person they meet so they
- 46:47can see the good in other people as well.
- 46:49That's like the be kind. Just pass it on.
- 46:52Yeah, exactly. You know, and and doing it
- 46:54without the the promise of getting things.
- 46:57Yeah, so love you man. Love you to you bro.
- 47:00We love you guys. Love you guys.
- 47:02Yeah, Turn in next week. I think we'll have a guest next
- 47:05week. Okay, yeah, if not, I also
- 47:09should talk to President so. Yes, yeah.
- 47:12Yes, we'll see. See you next week.
