- 0:00So what it what are pants
- 0:00I looked it up.
- 0:01doing in ~ ice cream sundae?
- 0:03Well,
- 0:04Hello and welcome back to Inside Quotes,
- 0:06the Book Club. we are here starting chapter two of Harry Potter
- 0:11and the Sorcerer's Stone, or the Philosopher's Stone,
- 0:14if you're British. we if a little backstory on us,
- 0:18we are doing this as a experiment on our show.
- 0:21But we are doing books that turn into movies that we love and are part
- 0:27of our childhood. And what better book to start off with than Harry Potter?
- 0:31~
- 0:32That's
- 0:32right.
- 0:32We aren't gonna do all the Harry Potters,
- 0:34by the way. feel like we didn't really make that clear in the last episode,
- 0:38but we aren't planning to do all the Harry Potters consecutively.
- 0:42We might do them eventually, ~ like as as the HBO show goes out.
- 0:46But we're focusing on
- 0:46That's that's what I'm thinking.
- 0:48we're focusing other movies,
- 0:51books turn movies, after this.
- 0:56So we're just starting out because this lines up perfectly.
- 0:58So just letting y'all know that before we
- 1:01commit to the whole series.
- 1:03So should we get started on ~ chapter two?
- 1:06Yeah, let's let's dive in.
- 1:08Alright, so immediately my first impression of this ~ chapter
- 1:13art is that that is not my Dudley.
- 1:17Dudley looks so weird. He looks
- 1:18Yeah.
- 1:21like a Cappy Barra with wings.
- 1:25And I don't
- 1:26I see it.
- 1:27know. Yeah. I he's supposed to be a pig,
- 1:30I guess. That's how he's described.
- 1:32Dudley catches some strays in this chapter.
- 1:35Let me tell you what. ~
- 1:38Yeah. Rowling's like, Why would he want a a racing bike?
- 1:40He's he's d he's very
- 1:43he's very made fun of for his image.
- 1:45And it's not like he doesn't deserve it because he's kind of an evil kid.
- 1:50But also at the end of the day,
- 1:52he's ten years old. He's eleven years old.
- 1:54Calm
- 1:55Mm.
- 1:56down. Don't go easy on him. Maybe he'll be nicer.
- 1:59but once again,
- 2:03I have this theory of I want
- 2:06the narrator to be narrating each chapter as the Great British Baking Show.
- 2:11this is the chapter where Dudley has his birthday and this is all this
- 2:15is really Dudley's chapter.
- 2:17Mm-hmm.
- 2:18And this is also the one where Harry talks of snakes.
- 2:20But ~ let's not talk about that.
- 2:24Alright,
- 2:24chapter two, The Vanishing Glass.
- 2:26Ten years later, Harry is living unhappily with the Dursleys.
- 2:30He sleeps in a cupboard under the stairs,
- 2:32is treated poorly by Aunt Petunia and Uncle Vernon,
- 2:35and is constantly bullied by his cousin Dudley.
- 2:37On Dudley's birthday, the family visits the zoo.
- 2:41Harry discovers that he seems to have a strange ability to communicate with a snake.
- 2:46When Dudley pushes Harry aside to see it,
- 2:48the glass separating the snake from the visitors mysteriously disappears,
- 2:52allowing the snake to escape. The Dursleys blame Harry and punish him.
- 2:58Calarity ensues.
- 3:00Can't help it.
- 3:01Can't help it. so yeah, this is our first glimpse of young well,
- 3:06I guess older Harry. ~ he is ten years old at this point.
- 3:10We've fast forwarded ten years from chapter one,
- 3:13which is not always the case in most books.
- 3:16Yeah.
- 3:17So and we it opens up with the scene of
- 3:22the Dursley's house empty 'cause nobody's gotten up yet.
- 3:26And it's I kinda want this to be a piece of the the show.
- 3:29I I for some reason I like seeing how peaceful and warm and calm
- 3:35the house is without these insane people to be on screen.
- 3:39Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.
- 3:40So
- 3:41I thought that'd be cool 'cause it's like it says like the sun rose on
- 3:46the same tidy front gardens and lit up the brass number four on
- 3:50the Dursley's front door. It crept into their living room.
- 3:53Like that's a great establishing shot.
- 3:55And then all of a sudden like like home alone style,
- 3:58everybody's the hustle and bustle of their work day.
- 4:00Yeah. We slept in.
- 4:02Yeah. And then all of a sudden everybody's older.
- 4:05That'd be a cool that'd be a cool intro for the for the show.
- 4:05Yeah. Mm. yeah.
- 4:09Mm-hmm.
- 4:10I don't know.
- 4:10Hm. First of all, the first stray that Dudley is getting taking
- 4:16is where he gets called a giant pink beach ball.
- 4:22In his baby photos? Yeah.
- 4:23Wearing different colored bonnets.
- 4:25Yes.
- 4:25~ yikes. He's no longer a baby,
- 4:29but the photograph showed a large blonde boy riding his first bicycle.
- 4:33So he takes after I guess both of
- 4:39his parents are blonde. The Dursleys are blonde.
- 4:42Yeah, I guess so. Mm-hmm.
- 4:43I also wanna make note from the chapter art I made a note saying that
- 4:47he doesn't look like Cappy Bear.
- 4:48He looks like Ice Age Baby.
- 4:51Ha ha ha.
- 4:54Hmm.
- 4:54Take that for what you will.
- 4:56Not a beach ball. Ice age baby.
- 4:58He's Ice Age Baby. Which I realize that kid doesn't have a name.
- 5:03Harry has a dream. He wakes up in his this is our first glimpse of the cupboard.
- 5:09This is his life with the Dursleys.
- 5:12But he's not it's not what you expect.
- 5:14Like he I mean, these people suck.
- 5:16But you'd expect them to treat him well.
- 5:22After ten years, like just raise them as your own,
- 5:25almost. But no, they put him under the stairs.
- 5:28How sad is this? ~
- 5:32And he's getting he wakes up to Ampetunio knocking on his door and yelling
- 5:38at him to get up and cook some food.
- 5:44Sound of the frying pan being put on the stove.
- 5:46And then he wakes up and he he says,
- 5:49I had a dream about a motorcycle.
- 5:53Which is kind of cool because that's all we know of his experience is that
- 5:57he rode a motorcycle to get to this house.
- 5:59~ and I think in the show, in the trailer,
- 6:03you can see ~ there's a clipping of a f motorcycle that looks like it's flying
- 6:10on his wall.
- 6:11that he decorated himself. That's such a tiny detail that makes me super excited
- 6:15for the show.
- 6:16that's cool.
- 6:19so there even like this stupid little line is already being put into the show.
- 6:25So I feel very good about it so far.
- 6:27This also makes me feel like Harry is going to get a motorcycle
- 6:32it during his midlife crisis after this whole series is over.
- 6:37Yeah.
- 6:40~
- 6:41He's probably gonna have a midlife crisis earlier than the rest of us.
- 6:45He he lived a lot of life in his teenage years,
- 6:47He he sure has. His midlife crisis is Order the Phoenix.
- 6:47you know.
- 6:56and then we've got ~ Dudley's birthday here and we want everything
- 7:02to be perfect on Duddy's special day.
- 7:05~ and it he's instructed to make bacon.
- 7:10And I just have a feeling that Dudley is a connoisseur of bacon.
- 7:15So much so, like since this is the American version,
- 7:17I'm thinking American bacon. I have a feeling that he makes
- 7:21his parents ship American bacon
- 7:24to their house because he prefers that.
- 7:27Who likes English bacon better?
- 7:29It's better than Canadian bacon.
- 7:32I d I don't know what the difference is.
- 7:34It's like fattier and like scrunch scrunchlier.
- 7:39It's not really like strips of bacon.
- 7:39Okay. Okay.
- 7:42Just like random cuts of meat.
- 7:44I love this narration also where he's like he found
- 7:50a pair of socks under his bed.
- 7:53Harry's he pulled a spider off of his sock,
- 7:56but Harry was used to spiders because the cupboard under the stairs was full
- 8:00of ~ And that was where he slept.
- 8:02That's just another narration.
- 8:05then we've got
- 8:08Dudley getting all of his new presents.
- 8:10And he didn't get as many as last year.
- 8:13So he's throwing a fit. And the
- 8:15Mm-hmm.
- 8:16number of presents is thirty-six.
- 8:20But last year he had thirty seven.
- 8:22Thirty six, that's less than last year.
- 8:27Not as well as a good a delivery as the movie.
- 8:30I think that that Dudley was he was having a crisis.
- 8:30Yeah. I prefer that. I prefer that version.
- 8:33well I I liked that Uncle Vernon just like you know,
- 8:37tussles his hair, it's like little tyke once his money's worth,
- 8:40just like his father, you know.
- 8:41Mm-hmm.
- 8:42He ~ just likes to call him little tyke all the time.
- 8:45Feel like you said that. yeah.
- 8:45Little tyke. He said that in the first one.
- 8:48Yeah.
- 8:51There there's also he as Harry is talking about well,
- 8:56in the section that it's talking about his dream with the motorbike,
- 8:59he also r he it talks about how he asked Petunia about,
- 9:03you know, his scar and where it came from.
- 9:06And I he says that it's the only thing about his his appearance
- 9:09he actually liked was his his scar,
- 9:11which I didn't really remember it saying that.
- 9:14But she basically just said, Well,
- 9:15it happened in the accident and ~ that killed your parents and don't
- 9:18ask any more questions. And that's
- 9:20Yeah.
- 9:21that is the the number one rule for a quiet life at the Dursleys.
- 9:24Don't ask questions. You know.
- 9:28Be normal, don't attract attention,
- 9:30don't ask questions. You know.
- 9:32Stay under the stairs.
- 9:34But he can't help it. He has to make fun of these people.
- 9:37He's more mouthy in the books than in ~ the movie that we've seen so far.
- 9:43He's like he will be like you you
- 9:44He is, yeah. I know. I keep thinking of
- 9:47he talks back like crazy.
- 9:49Yeah.
- 9:50He's like, Y you make Dudley do that.
- 9:52I don't need he's like
- 9:53Yeah, I
- 9:54I think that might be in chapter three,
- 9:55but
- 9:56Right.
- 9:56I feel like there's some more stuff in chapter three,
- 9:58but yeah.
- 10:00But he's
- 10:00calling I mean, in his head he's calling Dudley like a pig in a wig.
- 10:04e easy to dodge a
- 10:14It Harry is very fast in comparison to him,
- 10:18so he doesn't he feels like he can make fun of him and get away with it,
- 10:24but it's
- 10:24Yeah.
- 10:25also like he's not that fast. He's just it's easy to dodge a beach ball.
- 10:31Yeah, there's there's a bit of narration there that it says like Dudley thought
- 10:36for a moment. It looked like hard work then I wrote that down.
- 10:37Yeah. Yeah.
- 10:40~
- 10:41~
- 10:43these Dirseys are just so funny.
- 10:44Like I want that to be instead of mean,
- 10:47I I yeah, I I I agree.
- 10:48I want them to be funny mean.
- 10:49I feel like there's a lot of comedy that can be found if they really like highlight
- 10:53the jerseys. I on the other hand,
- 10:55but it is that kind of like dark comedy because they're like so abusive.
- 10:59So
- 10:59Mm-hmm.
- 11:00I don't know, even like shots of the trailer like cutting his hair
- 11:03and stuff like that,
- 11:04Yeah.
- 11:04~ I mean it just looks like such a traumatic event,
- 11:07but like, you know.
- 11:08But you know who you know
- 11:09what author did that so well? Roll Dahl.
- 11:11Mm-hmm. Yeah, that's true.
- 11:13In every
- 11:15book he there's some sort of traumatic abuse going on in all of his
- 11:18Mm-hmm. Yeah.
- 11:19books, and yet it's so funny still.
- 11:22Not that, but like he finds the humor in things and
- 11:25Yeah. I
- 11:26it's quirky and I really hope that that's what this show is gonna be.
- 11:29'Cause I'm getting that from this book.
- 11:32Mm-hmm. I and I I I get that the
- 11:38the Dursleys just go so far out of their way to make
- 11:41his life like the
- 11:43They don't need to go that hard.
- 11:45like miserable. I I now I can't remember if it's in chapter two or chapter three,
- 11:49but just like how ~ you know,
- 11:53they're gonna go to different schools.
- 11:55Dudley's gonna go to Smeltings,
- 11:56he's gonna go to the the public school or whatnot.
- 11:59And the fact that like
- 12:02I feel like they're a well off family,
- 12:03but the fact that they go to the effort of like just taking Dudley's
- 12:07old clothes and dyeing them grey so
- 12:09Dynam gray.
- 12:10that he has some clothes to wear,
- 12:12like they're going
- 12:13Yeah.
- 12:14out of their way at that point to do that.
- 12:16Like they're not in a bad hard up situation where they're like,
- 12:19well, we need to we do need to do this to make ends meet,
- 12:23I feel like.
- 12:24I think that's in chapter three.
- 12:25You're getting a little head of yourself,
- 12:26Okay. I'm I'm getting ahead of myself.
- 12:27brother.
- 12:30I have a theory that I want to put towards you.
- 12:33this little part where he's saying that he has all of Dudley's old clothes,
- 12:40but they don't really fit because he's always been so much smaller than him.
- 12:43That says something to Dudley being a bigger kid,
- 12:47but also he's always been small and skinny for his age.
- 12:50~ he looked even smaller and skinnier than he really was because of the clothes.
- 12:55But
- 12:56It makes me think of like the goldfish theory,
- 12:58like if you put him in a small cupboard,
- 13:03if you will, he's gonna be a small person.
- 13:06And if you put him give him a small leash psychologically
- 13:13and you don't give him a lot of leeway,
- 13:15he can't really grow. So they're very abusive to him.
- 13:19And it's I I found that interesting that he got his growth spurt after
- 13:23he goes to Hogwarts and not this summer.
- 13:27It's like after he has this entire castle to explore,
- 13:31~ he can grow in physicality and mentally.
- 13:38I like that. I think that I think that tracks.
- 13:41Yeah. Well I hope that's what she was going for.
- 13:43Mm-hmm.
- 13:44we've got some weird glimpse of magic in Harry that we don't really know about with
- 13:49his haircut. Keeps growing back and he can't really explain why.
- 13:53Like the next day almost.
- 13:55It brought an idea to attention to me that like are there wizard barbers?
- 14:00'Cause it's not like specifically a wizard thing that their hair grows.
- 14:05It's just like a weird thing that is like seeping out of him magic.
- 14:10I
- 14:10I don't
- 14:11know, what what is that all about?
- 14:14with his hair constantly growing back?
- 14:15Yeah.
- 14:16I guess in other books it talks about kinda how when you know,
- 14:20wizards are young, you know, things like that do just kinda manifest.
- 14:24You know, there's signs of of magical abilities,
- 14:27like earlier on, you know, even before they
- 14:29Yeah, okay.
- 14:30get to that age. But so I feel like there's just such an emotional
- 14:37tie to it, you know. Like I feel like some of those moments where he gets
- 14:40in trouble in later books is because he has some kind of like strong emotional
- 14:44outburst, you know.
- 14:45Yeah.
- 14:45You know, and he can't control the magic.
- 14:47And you know, he was really I I do think that it was a very traumatic thing.
- 14:53Like he did not I mean, Petitia's like really cut like shaving his hair,
- 14:57except for his his bangs, you know,
- 14:58to cover his scar. You know, and he
- 14:59Cover that nasty scar.
- 15:01was just dreading I mean, he was getting bullied at school,
- 15:04you know, ~ and just made fun of for his oversized clothes and nobody liked
- 15:09him 'cause of Dudley told him not to like him.
- 15:12So I I just you know.
- 15:13Yeah, they were too s people couldn't stand up
- 15:15for him because they were so scared of Dudley.
- 15:17And and it says he spent like a sleepless night,
- 15:19you know, ~ after that, like dreading going to school the next day.
- 15:24So I just feel like it has to do with that that fear and that I don't know,
- 15:29just that intense emotion of just like wanting to fit in,
- 15:32but yeah. I don't know.
- 15:33That is so sad.
- 15:35That's my theory there. Yeah.
- 15:37I feel like
- 15:38every everybody can relate to getting bullied in school.
- 15:42Unless you were the bully. Then if you were
- 15:47Apologize.
- 15:47Then you then you get it too. You know,
- 15:48you did it.
- 15:49Yeah. So you get
- 15:51Like
- 15:51it.
- 15:51one one of my like earliest potter memories of reading this book
- 15:57is just really remembering the scene where well,
- 16:01just they're describing it in the book of him like running away from Dudley
- 16:04and his gang and he finds himself somehow he jumps and he finds himself
- 16:08on top of like the kitchen roofs at school.
- 16:11And like
- 16:11Yeah.
- 16:12I remember that was something I remembered from the book when I was a kid
- 16:16and like I
- 16:16He force
- 16:17jumped.
- 16:17I wanted yeah, I wanted to see that in the movie and and we never got to see that.
- 16:21So ~ yeah, like these kind of instances of weird magical abilities
- 16:28starting to show up in this chapter is something I do hope we get in the HBO show.
- 16:32And just from the clips of getting his hair cut,
- 16:35you know, in the trailer, we're we'll at least get that that portion of it,
- 16:39so
- 16:39Yeah. we're making all these predictions and we're gonna seem really cool.
- 16:44But we just I just h have a feeling everything is gonna be shown.
- 16:49I I
- 16:50hope so. I mean, that that is the promise of the HBO show is that they said that
- 16:55they were gonna do faithful adaptations.
- 16:57So I again it's an adaptation,
- 17:00you can't put everything in there.
- 17:01But, you know, I'm gonna lose some confidence if they go in and they start like
- 17:07changing stuff or cutting out like important stuff.
- 17:10Like, you know. Yeah.
- 17:11Yeah, if they don't show Pierce Polcus,
- 17:13I'll be upset, you know.
- 17:13Yeah.
- 17:16Cause that is an even that's such a like a They're trying to figure out what
- 17:21to do with Harry in this next part.
- 17:23And they don't want to like leave him at home,
- 17:26even though he wants that, because they're like,
- 17:28We don't want you to ruin our house.
- 17:30Mm-hmm.
- 17:30And then they don't want to leave him in the car,
- 17:32which is already barbaric, because the car's new.
- 17:37And then the
- 17:40The reason he he usually stays with Mrs.
- 17:42Fig, whose house smells of cabbage and cats,
- 17:46I think. And he's like sh
- 17:47Yeah. Do you know the name of the cats?
- 17:50I don't. What are the names is that a trivia question?
- 17:52I got a trivia question.
- 17:52Okay.
- 17:55I'll let you complete your thoughts.
- 17:57Okay, I was just
- 17:58saying, it's just like you're kicking a horse when he's down.
- 18:00Like not only can he go, he can he not go to the zoo for his cousin's birthday.
- 18:06~ but like he gets to take a friend with him instead of Harry.
- 18:12Yeah.
- 18:13Piers Polkas takes Harry's spot.
- 18:15Yeah.
- 18:16That's so that's the worst thing to hear as a ten year old kid.
- 18:21Like I'm not getting I'm not fitting in with my own
- 18:26Yeah.
- 18:26family.
- 18:27Mm.
- 18:29And it's not his family, but it is,
- 18:31you know, so whatever. ~
- 18:35Yeah, they ~
- 18:38I I liked how they when they go to the zoo and they're getting ice cream
- 18:42for like Pierce and Dudley and then like the the st the ice cream person just like
- 18:47automatically then like turns to Harry's like,
- 18:49what will you be having? And they're just like,
- 18:51we weren't gonna get something,
- 18:53you know. So they get the cheapest thing on the menu,
- 18:55Get him like a freezy pop. Ice pop,
- 18:55the lemon ice pop. Yeah. But he said it wasn't bad.
- 18:57yeah. And he even says, It was pretty good.
- 18:59Yeah.
- 19:00Yeah, it
- 19:01was pretty good. But turns out Dudley hated his first option.
- 19:05A
- 19:05Mm-hmm.
- 19:06knickerbocker glory? What is
- 19:08Yeah. Did you look that up?
- 19:10a kn what is a knickerbocker glory?
- 19:12I looked up what knickerbockers were and those were pants.
- 19:15So what it what are pants
- 19:16I I looked it up.
- 19:17doing in ~ ice cream sundae?
- 19:20Well,
- 19:21do you know the color of the pants?
- 19:22Are they like the stripes? Like the white and red stripes?
- 19:25Do you know that? Okay.
- 19:26N I don't know. Am I missing that?
- 19:28I thought it was just like a banana split.
- 19:28I don't know, but
- 19:31I'm just picturing his outfit from like Chamber of Secrets,
- 19:34the movie.
- 19:34Yeah.
- 19:35Or the first movie. I don't know.
- 19:37Okay, here
- 19:37Let me
- 19:38this is a Knickerbocker glory here.
- 19:40Okay.
- 19:41It's an ice cream sundae and it's like layered with like some real fruit.
- 19:47And it looks like like a strawberry syrup.
- 19:49So it has
- 19:49Okay.
- 19:50kind of like a red, white and blue kind of look to it.
- 19:53Yeah. But but
- 19:53Like their flag, Union Jack. Okay.
- 19:55It looks American to me.
- 19:58it's like a big, tall, you know,
- 20:00in a tall ice you know, Sunday glass,
- 20:02Yeah.
- 20:02so
- 20:02So he complained that there wasn't enough ice cream on top of that.
- 20:06Yeah, he d he didn't get enough.
- 20:06my goodness. Okay.
- 20:07So Harry got to finish it.
- 20:10So Harry cut two desserts. That's pretty
- 20:12Yeah.
- 20:13nice.
- 20:13So I mean it's a pretty good day for him until
- 20:15Pretty good.
- 20:19The reptile room.
- 20:21He even got this really cool sweater though.
- 20:25Orange brown with orange puffballs.
- 20:28That's pretty awesome. I would wear that.
- 20:31~
- 20:31Mm-hmm.
- 20:34Harry wouldn't. It magically shrunk so he didn't have to wear it.
- 20:36Car
- 20:37magically. ~ wait,
- 20:40I thought I was gonna say something else.
- 20:42We talked about
- 20:45yeah, they they take to like adventure parks and hamburger restaurants
- 20:52or the movies. And I noted that like there's another British ism.
- 20:56Mm.
- 20:58I don't feel like anybody calls them hamburger restaurants.
- 21:01Fast food? Burger joints.
- 21:02Yeah, the actually the the
- 21:05the American version said burger restaurants and the full cast version
- 21:09Yeah.
- 21:10said burger bars. Yeah.
- 21:12Burger bars? That's even worse.
- 21:14Like a burger
- 21:15bar. So I d I don't know. Guess that's what they call over there.
- 21:17Okay. Alright.
- 21:19Hadn't got restaurants. It's a burger joint at least.
- 21:23And that honestly burger joint doesn't sound great either,
- 21:26but
- 21:26That's all I needed to say. I I like to note these ~ British isms that bleed
- 21:33through the story.
- 21:34Mm-hmm.
- 21:35It's just like a cultural shock that she just didn't translate to America.
- 21:39But yeah, we've got this Brazilian mm Python?
- 21:46BOA constrictor?
- 21:48Bow a constrictor.
- 21:49This is something I want to see well done.
- 21:53I want him to speak more than in the movie when he just said thank and
- 22:00st and he just like nodded. I want this to be a actual conversation,
- 22:04and I either want him to have a Brazilian accent or the like most cogney
- 22:10accent ever, because he was bred in captivity.
- 22:13I want that
- 22:15Yeah.
- 22:15to be I want that to be a real conversation.
- 22:19~ and then I kinda go back to it at the end where he says,
- 22:22Brazil, here I come, thanks amigo.
- 22:24He should have a Brazilian accent then.
- 22:27Or, you know, if he's like a cabby like Fikes amigo
- 22:30Yeah. Mm hmm.
- 22:32Yeah. Now, when you say conversation though,
- 22:36between him, like the way I I'm reading it in the book is that he's like almost like
- 22:43they're understanding each other,
- 22:44He's not saying anything, you're right.
- 22:45but they're not
- 22:46talking, but like they can kind of hear each other's other's thoughts.
- 22:50I don't know. Yeah.
- 22:52That's all I'm saying. I want him to
- 22:53hear his thoughts as an accent,
- 22:56Mm.
- 22:56basically.
- 22:58Yeah. I would agree, I would like that full line though from the book,
- 23:03like Brazil, here I come. Thanks,
- 23:05amigo.
- 23:06I want
- 23:07him to be happy and like slither off.
- 23:09It was a scary scene. then the zoo director is apologizing after the glass vanishes.
- 23:15One thing I made note of, like the movie added this,
- 23:18they didn't have they had Dudley fall
- 23:24in the tank and the glass
- 23:26and get trapped in?
- 23:27reappeared and he's trapped in the empty tank.
- 23:29Yeah.
- 23:30I like that. That's a good addition.
- 23:33I don't need to see it again. But Yeah,
- 23:38I I was like, the he just released He didn't trap Dudley in there.
- 23:42Mm-hmm. That's true. Yeah.
- 23:42That was a big surprise. ~
- 23:46and then Aunt Petunia gets a cup of strong sweet tea.
- 23:49So you mean southern sweet tea or iced tea?
- 23:55The south of England.
- 23:56Yeah.
- 23:57and then obviously Harry has ruined this entire day by talking to this snake
- 24:03and Piers really outs him out.
- 24:04and Uncle Vernon is livid.
- 24:09He can't even speak. He says, Go Cupboard Stay
- 24:15No meals And then he gets a nice ~ sip a large glass of brandy,
- 24:22so
- 24:22Mm-hmm.
- 24:25Things are not good between him and the Jerseys right now.
- 24:28Mm-hmm.
- 24:30But they should have just let him come in the first place.
- 24:32And he wouldn't be so emotional.
- 24:36If only he had stayed home with Mrs.
- 24:37Fig and her cats.
- 24:39And cabbage. But she broke her leg.
- 24:43Like why can't she just watch him with a broken leg?
- 24:45I don't understand that.
- 24:48Yeah. Mrs Mrs. Fig is also someone that is like that's a name that gets it's like
- 24:54Yep. She shows up.
- 24:55planted here,
- 24:56but she shows up, she's referenced again,
- 24:58and then she ends up having like a bigger role than you would expect later on.
- 25:02Yeah. Yep.
- 25:02~
- 25:04But I did write down the names of her cats for my trivia trivia.
- 25:07Okay, what are they?
- 25:08Tibbles, Snowy, Mr. Paws,
- 25:12and Tufty.
- 25:13Ooh.
- 25:16Which if you had a cat, what would you pick those names?
- 25:18I think I'm going with Tufty.
- 25:21I like Tufty, but maybe 'cause it's last in the list.
- 25:22Tibbles. Tibbles. You say Tibbles?
- 25:23Mr. Paws kinda kinda makes me funny.
- 25:28Did I say it makes me funny?
- 25:30It makes you it makes you funny sometimes.
- 25:32It makes Mr. Paws makes me funny.
- 25:36Pause.
- 25:38Yeah, Tufty's a good one.
- 25:41What did you say Tibbles?
- 25:43Tibbles, yeah. Snowy. Yeah.
- 25:45They're all good. Snowy stinks.
- 25:46It they're
- 25:49Don't g don't ever get a white cat and call him Snowball.
- 25:52S Snowball Steward Little.
- 25:52That's so embarrassing. Ugh.
- 25:55Stuart Little.
- 25:58Alright. and then we are finally at the end here in the last page
- 26:05of the chapter. And he comes across this group of strange people that
- 26:12are like he almost thinks like they know him,
- 26:15but he's like ~ he just wants to somebody else to be on his side for once.
- 26:21It's not even like Mrs. Fig is on his side,
- 26:24like he hates her too.
- 26:26Yeah.
- 26:28~ but the st
- 26:29He says he says
- 26:30like I should feel bad about her breaking her leg,
- 26:32but on the other hand, it's like a whole other year 'til I have to like hang
- 26:36out with her again, so I don't mind.
- 26:37That's true. Yeah.
- 26:39Plus he gets to go to the zoo for once.
- 26:41It's like pretty
- 26:41Yeah.
- 26:42nice. He didn't have to go school.
- 26:43~
- 26:45And I feel too I I feel so bad for him.
- 26:47I mean for multiple reasons, but like yeah,
- 26:50he just like once he just
- 26:50One, he's an orphan. Two
- 26:53like he's looking forward to going to the zoo.
- 26:55Even if he knows he's gonna go there,
- 26:57there he's gonna be ignored or like worse,
- 26:59like just like treated horribly the whole time
- 27:02Yeah.
- 27:02and blamed for everything. But like he still like is managing to try
- 27:06and find like it's actually a pretty good day,
- 27:09you know or you know? Yeah.
- 27:09Yeah. I mean he's just used to it at this point.
- 27:12He's
- 27:12just he just goes with emotions,
- 27:14he's just surviving. But it really is a wonder that he hasn't tried to run away yet.
- 27:18Even at ten years old, I feel like I tried to run away.
- 27:23And I didn't get I had a great life.
- 27:26So then we've got these strangers on the street that seem
- 27:32to know him, and I thought they were of note,
- 27:35and I would like to make some theories on who they are.
- 27:38Number one, I'm pretty sure this one is confirmed.
- 27:41The tiny man in a violet top hat,
- 27:43which we kinda talked about last week,
- 27:45Diddleless Diggle. Diddle Diggle?
- 27:47Okay. Okay. Okay.
- 27:49I'm pretty sure that's confirmed as him.
- 27:51Because
- 27:52I think he shows up in the leaky cauldron also and says that he saw him.
- 27:55~ I'm not exactly sure.
- 27:56Yeah. I remember he does. Mm-hmm.
- 27:59Maybe
- 27:59it's Doris Crockfoot.
- 28:01Okay.
- 28:02I'm not sure who the green ~ a wild old woman dressed in all green
- 28:09The only person that wears green is McGonagall that I know of,
- 28:11and I don't think she's called wild and old.
- 28:15So it might be another leaky cauldron person or just a random person.
- 28:19But then this one's really interesting.
- 28:21A bald man in a very long purple coat had actually shaken his hand
- 28:27in the street the other day and then walked away without a word.
- 28:30the weirdest thing about all these people is that they seem to vanish
- 28:35the second Harry saw them. Okay,
- 28:37this bald guy.
- 28:39Think of think of the bald people in this wizarding world.
- 28:43There's not a lot. Bald people that wear purple.
- 28:46We've got Kingsley Shacklebolt
- 28:51and Quirinius Quarrel.
- 28:54Yeah.
- 28:55My theory is that this is Quirl.
- 28:57And he shakes his hand because this is before he gets the turban.
- 29:02This is before he
- 29:03Yeah. Hmm.
- 29:04gets the ~ you know what? On the
- 29:07Mm-hmm.
- 29:08Back of his you know what?
- 29:11Ha ha ha.
- 29:13~ and he wears purple, so I feel like and he doesn't say a word either 'cause he's
- 29:16socially awkward.
- 29:18Hm.
- 29:19Could be.
- 29:21I just have a strong feeling it's him.
- 29:22He doesn't seem to recognize him in the in the leaky cauldron,
- 29:26but it was just kind of a quick encounter.
- 29:29True. But maybe he doesn't. That's true.
- 29:34Good point. Well, that's all I'm saying.
- 29:36If there's any other bald people in the series,
- 29:40let us know down in the Discord,
- 29:41everybody. 'Cause that is a interesting
- 29:43We'll have to reach out to some wizard barbers and see if they know.
- 29:46that's an interesting thought.
- 29:47Like there aren't that many bald people bald representation in the wizarding world.
- 29:53Maybe they are. They just have,
- 29:54you know, they're wearing a piece.
- 29:55Cats.
- 29:56They've got an
- 29:57enchantment, you know.
- 29:59They go to they they
- 30:01went to the Turkey School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
- 30:03~
- 30:04And then I guess you can take the last line,
- 30:06read that off to him.
- 30:08Well, the last line of the chapter says Everybody knew that Dudley's gang hated that
- 30:13odd Harry Potter in his baggy old clothes and broken glasses,
- 30:16and nobody liked to disagree with Dudley's gang.
- 30:20That's so sad. It's like it's even sadder that he's in the same class
- 30:26as Dudley and he can't catch a break even away from his house.
- 30:30Like constantly bullied and I just wrote I wish for him to have some friends
- 30:36at his new school. Maybe he'll have a better time at a different school.
- 30:43Stonewall high or whatever it's called.
- 30:46Or Hogwarts,
- 30:49who knows? Maybe he'll go there.
- 30:51knows? Maybe.
- 30:52We shall see.
- 30:55So our only next thing is anything off the spinning of the wheel.
- 31:00Ready for the trolley?
- 31:02Mm-hmm.
- 31:09Bready bots again. I wanna try some good candies here.
- 31:14We gotta respect the wheel. I don't
- 31:16Respect the wheel.
- 31:17I'd like to try some of this other candy someday,
- 31:19but we gotta respect the wheel.
- 31:21We have seventeen chapters to do so.
- 31:23Just know that you can't do vomit and
- 31:28I can't do rotten egg like last week.
- 31:33please give me a good one.
- 31:38no. I've got a white and brown speckled one.
- 31:44The speckled ones are never good.
- 31:45I gotta
- 31:46They're never good. It's either
- 31:47marshmallow or sausage.
- 31:50It looks pink. I think it's good.
- 31:54Candy floss?
- 31:55Candy floss or cherry, maybe?
- 31:58Okay, ready? Three, two, one.
- 32:04Thank goodness. Well.
- 32:06Yeah, mine's good.
- 32:09Mine's good. I got marshmallow.
- 32:10Big improvement from rotten egg.
- 32:11Okay. man. How did we get the the worst ones on that first episode?
- 32:12my goodness. Alright. We
- 32:17both did. I don't know.
- 32:21I don't know.
- 32:26I will say, yeah, when I was a kid,
- 32:28I thought the birdie bots were just like so cool.
- 32:31But as I got older, I was like,
- 32:33they're kinda half bad. Like,
- 32:36They are that's kind of the point.
- 32:37~ that's
- 32:38the point. That's like I'd rather just get something guaranteed good,
- 32:42but they're still fun, kind of,
- 32:43Yeah. They are. That's it brings the fun.
- 32:44I guess.
- 32:49That's why we respect the wheel.
- 32:50We don't we don't keep redoing it 'cause we'll never get a good one.
- 32:53Okay.
- 32:53Yeah.
- 32:55Okay.
- 32:56What can we look forward to next week?
- 32:58Well, next week we'll be covering chapter three,
- 33:00The Letters from No One. And in the meantime,
