Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: Welcome back to Born to the Game. We're doing a
- 0:04Speaker 1: quick recap of our conversation with myself and Mason Dean,
- 0:07Speaker 1: a conversation that was honest, grounded, and full of perspective.
- 0:12Speaker 1: There were so many beautiful moments in both of our episodes,
- 0:15Speaker 1: and we wanted to take a few minutes to reflect
- 0:17Speaker 1: on what really stayed with us. Hey, Ti, what's up? Hey? Yeah, Yeah,
- 0:27Speaker 1: I enjoyed both of our episodes so much, so many
- 0:33Speaker 1: different just takeaways from it, in my opinion, What do
- 0:37Speaker 1: you think?
- 0:39Speaker 2: I firstly, like, this whole process has been such a ride,
- 0:49Speaker 2: and it's been so like it's just been so interesting.
- 0:53Speaker 2: Number one, but it's been such a joy. Like I
- 0:58Speaker 2: knew we were gonna have a great time with people.
- 1:00Speaker 2: I knew that, but like the amount of joy that
- 1:03Speaker 2: we have experienced this, you know, in this this process
- 1:08Speaker 2: has been just incredible. And when I think about, of
- 1:13Speaker 2: course your episode and then also Mason's, I just think
- 1:17Speaker 2: about the joy walking away, you know what I mean
- 1:20Speaker 2: from both of them, because it's just been refreshing to
- 1:24Speaker 2: listen and to hear about just everything that everybody is
- 1:30Speaker 2: is working on and doing. So I was just I
- 1:32Speaker 2: think the word joy just pops up, and I'm just
- 1:35Speaker 2: so excited about everyone enjoying, you know, the episodes.
- 1:42Speaker 1: Yeah, I agree with you, tea joy, excitement and just ready.
- 1:50Speaker 1: I'm ready for this to launch, and I'm excited for
- 1:55Speaker 1: viewers and fans to connect with all of that, connect
- 1:59Speaker 1: with kids. The very first episode that we launched is
- 2:04Speaker 1: Gonna be of Mine, of Myself, and that took a
- 2:08Speaker 1: lot of energy and it took a lot of vulnerability
- 2:14Speaker 1: on my end to sit down and be on the
- 2:17Speaker 1: hot seat. I guess normally, I'm sitting next to you
- 2:21Speaker 1: and we're asking questions to our guests, and this was
- 2:24Speaker 1: the first time that I was asked those questions.
- 2:29Speaker 2: And it's a little uncomfortable.
- 2:30Speaker 1: I'm not gonna lie. And I think being in a
- 2:33Speaker 1: position where you have to talk about yourself when you're
- 2:37Speaker 1: so used to other people talking about in my case
- 2:40Speaker 1: my father, I just wasn't used to it.
- 2:43Speaker 2: Right, We've been.
- 2:44Speaker 1: Talking about a couple of those moments that were painful
- 2:47Speaker 1: for me to at first talk about.
- 2:51Speaker 2: It was scary.
- 2:51Speaker 1: I'm not gonna lie.
- 2:52Speaker 2: I was nervous.
- 2:54Speaker 1: I tried my best to prepare for that moment, but
- 2:59Speaker 1: you are never fully prepared But all that to say,
- 3:03Speaker 1: I am happy that I did it. I'm happy that
- 3:06Speaker 1: I am allowing viewers into my world a little bit.
- 3:10Speaker 1: And I know as the season progresses, well, you guys
- 3:14Speaker 1: will talk to me a little bit more about just
- 3:16Speaker 1: my journey and some other moments that were and are
- 3:21Speaker 1: pivotal in my journey of becoming who I am. But yeah, I.
- 3:27Speaker 2: Think, yeah, I think the word vulnerability comes to mind
- 3:31Speaker 2: as well, and I feel like across the board, being
- 3:34Speaker 2: vulnerable is never easy, and so that's what I really appreciate,
- 3:38Speaker 2: just from your point of view, and then also our guests,
- 3:43Speaker 2: the vulnerability that people brought to know, the to our
- 3:48Speaker 2: questions and to the space. I feel like that's what
- 3:52Speaker 2: is going to make this show just a nail bier,
- 3:56Speaker 2: you know, for people to want to come back and
- 3:57Speaker 2: listen to more and more stories. Is the vulnerable that
- 4:01Speaker 2: was not forced. You know, we completely gave them the
- 4:04Speaker 2: floor and what they wanted to talk about. So I
- 4:06Speaker 2: just I really appreciate the vulnerability, especially that you gave
- 4:10Speaker 2: because this whole you know, this whole machine was based
- 4:15Speaker 2: off of something that you went through and that was
- 4:17Speaker 2: a very real, painful place, very real for yourself. And
- 4:21Speaker 2: your family. So for that to come out and then
- 4:24Speaker 2: to be a place where other people can share their
- 4:27Speaker 2: stories is it's absolutely incredible and I cannot wait for
- 4:32Speaker 2: people to hear just what we got to experience. You know,
- 4:37Speaker 2: I really am excited for people to really get to know.
- 4:41Speaker 2: It's like it's like we're it's like we're connecting, you
- 4:44Speaker 2: know what I mean, It's like people were connecting people
- 4:46Speaker 2: and who knows, you know, people people will see who
- 4:49Speaker 2: knows what, people will be touched by and helped. So
- 4:54Speaker 2: that's what I'm so excited about. And then also so
- 4:57Speaker 2: proud of you. I mean that I know, I know,
- 5:02Speaker 2: especially yeah, you know, and you know, especially us, nobody
- 5:06Speaker 2: wants to tell anybody the bad parts or the sad
- 5:09Speaker 2: parts of our lives. You know, nobody wants to do that. Nobody,
- 5:13Speaker 2: nobody offers to do that. Well that, but then at
- 5:15Speaker 2: the other end of it, those are the things that
- 5:19Speaker 2: help other people, you know what I mean. We're overcome
- 5:21Speaker 2: because of our testimony. So it's like, you know, it's hard,
- 5:25Speaker 2: but you know, nothing great ever came out of being
- 5:29Speaker 2: something easy or you know, nothing ever good ever comes
- 5:32Speaker 2: out of that. So kudos to you and this is
- 5:35Speaker 2: gonna be fun. It's gonna be It's gonna be so
- 5:37Speaker 2: much fun.
- 5:38Speaker 1: Yeah, no, totally agree. I think for a long time
- 5:42Speaker 1: those moments felt so heavy, but I've just come to
- 5:45Speaker 1: realize that they were shaping me and guiding me towards
- 5:49Speaker 1: purpose in ways I didn't fully understand at the time.
- 5:52Speaker 1: And I just think that experience taught me that sometimes
- 5:56Speaker 1: the very things we try to hide or move past
- 5:59Speaker 1: or the same thing that we can give that of
- 6:02Speaker 1: our lives. Meaning so thank you and Evan for taking
- 6:06Speaker 1: the time to talk.
- 6:07Speaker 2: To little old me and oh stop it, stop it.
- 6:12Speaker 2: But then but then after you know, I mean after
- 6:15Speaker 2: you we opened up or we yeah, we open up
- 6:19Speaker 2: with with Mason, Yes, and joy he is Mason, like
- 6:26Speaker 2: you know all of our guests. I just I'm just
- 6:28Speaker 2: gonna say that just as a just as a thing.
- 6:31Speaker 2: But it's like I was, I was just so honored,
- 6:35Speaker 2: you know, to be in Mason's presence. He's such a
- 6:39Speaker 2: well rounded, grounded, beautiful soul. I mean, he's young and
- 6:47Speaker 2: creative and this gloating father of his new daughter, and
- 6:53Speaker 2: so I just think that I think he just kind
- 6:57Speaker 2: of he helped me know that there are still great
- 7:01Speaker 2: men in the world. Yeah, I mean, I'm being funny,
- 7:04Speaker 2: but like because I know many, many, many great men.
- 7:07Speaker 2: But he's just a great guy, you know what I mean.
- 7:10Speaker 2: And I'm excited for the people who don't know him
- 7:13Speaker 2: to learn of him. But yeah, I mean, sitting and
- 7:16Speaker 2: talking with him was it was it was an honor.
- 7:19Speaker 2: That's That's the word I'm going to give him.
- 7:21Speaker 1: I think what stood out to me the most about
- 7:24Speaker 1: Mason is how grounded he is. He's incredibly humble and intentional,
- 7:31Speaker 1: and not just as an individual, but really as a father. Right,
- 7:36Speaker 1: so he's building a life that not only makes his
- 7:39Speaker 1: family proud, but one that his daughter can also look
- 7:41Speaker 1: up to. And I just think that kind of purpose
- 7:45Speaker 1: and who he is says so much about just who
- 7:48Speaker 1: he's becoming. And I think he Mason embodies the idea
- 7:53Speaker 1: that legacy is not only inherited, but it can be
- 7:57Speaker 1: lived through your actions and values and the examples that
- 8:02Speaker 1: he sets every single day. He is honestly one of
- 8:06Speaker 1: the most genuine human beings we've encountered on the show,
- 8:11Speaker 1: and I'm super excited for viewers to just get to
- 8:16Speaker 1: know him and connect with him and even learn from him.
- 8:19Speaker 1: There are some moments I'm sitting there and I'm looking
- 8:21Speaker 1: at him and I'm like, wow, Mason, I'm learning a
- 8:24Speaker 1: lot about myself through you. How he's just just how
- 8:29Speaker 1: and you've said it on the on the episode, tee,
- 8:32Speaker 1: how level headed he is. No matter what.
- 8:34Speaker 2: There's times where.
- 8:36Speaker 1: I'm looking back at my own life and my own
- 8:39Speaker 1: experiences and I wish I had some of his level headedness.
- 8:43Speaker 2: If that's well, we can make up words around here, right.
- 8:48Speaker 2: Nobody's gonna you know, nobody's gonna take our mic, you know.
- 8:53Speaker 2: And for those of you who don't know who Mason is,
- 8:55Speaker 2: Mason is the grandson of the Woopi Goldberg and so
- 9:02Speaker 2: insert screams right there. I mean, you guys will learn
- 9:05Speaker 2: that I was fanning out just because Whoopi Goldberg has
- 9:08Speaker 2: been a huge influence on, you know, me personally as
- 9:12Speaker 2: far as like just someone to look up to in
- 9:14Speaker 2: the industry. But she's just an American you know, national treasure.
- 9:19Speaker 2: I mean, she's basically sister act and we all those
- 9:22Speaker 2: of us who've grown up and though that franchise is
- 9:26Speaker 2: just you know, permeated generations, and so having her grandson
- 9:31Speaker 2: on here was just an honor, so and it's really
- 9:36Speaker 2: exciting just to learn about her in another light that
- 9:39Speaker 2: we're not used to, you know, seeing her on the
- 9:41Speaker 2: view or any other place. So but you can see
- 9:45Speaker 2: how her life has influenced his and I think that's
- 9:48Speaker 2: just so cool. It was so cool to talk to
- 9:51Speaker 2: him and learn how his granny, how his granny, he
- 9:56Speaker 2: loves his granny, how his granny you know, just kind
- 9:58Speaker 2: of helped him through and is helping him through life.
- 10:02Speaker 1: I remember he talked about how important family time is,
- 10:09Speaker 1: not only his parents, but with his grandmother, and he
- 10:11Speaker 1: talks about how that's the one thing that she encourages
- 10:15Speaker 1: her family to do, spend time with each other. Sit
- 10:18Speaker 1: back and you're like, wow, if Whoopy, if the Whoopie
- 10:21Speaker 1: Goldbird is encouraging her children and her grandchildren to spend
- 10:25Speaker 1: time with each other when she is arguably one of
- 10:29Speaker 1: the most busy.
- 10:30Speaker 2: Hardest working women in show business.
- 10:32Speaker 1: Literally right, that means we have no excuse to not
- 10:36Speaker 1: be able to connect with each other and our loved ones.
- 10:38Speaker 1: So that stood out to me as well, just her
- 10:41Speaker 1: dedication to her family and her children and her grandchildren
- 10:45Speaker 1: and her great grand great great grandchildren. Yeah, despite all
- 10:51Speaker 1: of the things that she has to do on her
- 10:53Speaker 1: plates so right.
- 10:55Speaker 2: And he enjoys her and I think that was so
- 10:58Speaker 2: it was so cool to see and to learn about
- 11:01Speaker 2: their relationship and then and then how he's you know,
- 11:05Speaker 2: his relationship with his daughter and how he's becoming a
- 11:08Speaker 2: dad and it's just a beautiful marriage of just a
- 11:13Speaker 2: family and you know and lintle health and legacy and
- 11:18Speaker 2: hard work and determination. I think we just covered all those,
- 11:23Speaker 2: you know, those points in this episode. And so, yeah,
- 11:27Speaker 2: I don't have a favorite episode of season two. I
- 11:31Speaker 2: refuse to pick it, but I will say that talking
- 11:33Speaker 2: with Mason was just incredible.
- 11:36Speaker 1: Yes, yes, we are looking forward to viewers getting to
- 11:40Speaker 1: know him and I think getting a different perspective on
- 11:45Speaker 1: quote NEPO babies. Of course, that was something that stood
- 11:50Speaker 1: out to me when just coming up with this idea
- 11:56Speaker 1: of born to the game is breaking that stereotype that
- 12:00Speaker 1: children who are born into certain families aren't kind and
- 12:04Speaker 1: they don't work hard and just natty braddy.
- 12:10Speaker 2: Humans and not connected to the world. And that's one thing.
- 12:14Speaker 1: That viewers can gather from our conversations is that these
- 12:20Speaker 1: kids are the exact opposite, right, They are extremely humble
- 12:25Speaker 1: and have so much integrity about who they are, who
- 12:28Speaker 1: they are becoming, and their craft and super uplifting. This
- 12:32Speaker 1: isn't one of those podcasts that engages in mess and
- 12:38Speaker 1: trying to find this viral moment to share tea. It's
- 12:42Speaker 1: about uplifting each other and uplifting the viewers and learning
- 12:46Speaker 1: from each other and connecting. So that's one thing that
- 12:49Speaker 1: I can say that you and I pride ourselves on
- 12:52Speaker 1: when we engage in these type of conversations. It's just
- 12:54Speaker 1: making sure that the viewer feels uplifted and connected because
- 13:00Speaker 1: the stories are humanizing, the stories are real, the stories
- 13:04Speaker 1: are authentic, and these kids are becoming a better version
- 13:10Speaker 1: of themselves day in and day out. They are great
- 13:13Speaker 1: human beings and they add so much value to our society.
- 13:17Speaker 1: And I can't say this enough. I'm just excited about
- 13:22Speaker 1: viewers being able to connect with these kids and hopefully
- 13:26Speaker 1: shine light to this idea that again, nepotism is real,
- 13:31Speaker 1: which I'm not saying it's not, but I think the
- 13:33Speaker 1: negative connotation to it. I'm hoping to shine light on
- 13:37Speaker 1: that and break that stereo.
- 13:40Speaker 2: Yeah, and also just to kind of have a different
- 13:43Speaker 2: take on you know, a different take on things. We
- 13:46Speaker 2: have so much out in the world to look at,
- 13:49Speaker 2: you know, on social media and other podcasts and other
- 13:53Speaker 2: places where people express themselves. And I think what I
- 13:57Speaker 2: appreciate the most about what we're doing is just you know,
- 14:02Speaker 2: shedding the self care, self help, you know, portion about
- 14:10Speaker 2: how we do things, I think is the best way
- 14:12Speaker 2: to say it, and how it's more so we are
- 14:17Speaker 2: hopefully here, of course to tell stories, but to help someone,
- 14:22Speaker 2: and it's never to hurt or harm and never to
- 14:25Speaker 2: do anything to cause you know, any family drama, which
- 14:29Speaker 2: we don't need anymore. Up there's plenty of that on
- 14:31Speaker 2: the market, and there's plenty of that being shown, and
- 14:35Speaker 2: that has its own lane in place, and that's what
- 14:37Speaker 2: it is. But you know, just are our way of
- 14:40Speaker 2: doing things is just a little bit different. And I
- 14:42Speaker 2: feel like, just upcoming, when people see different industries being
- 14:48Speaker 2: being represented by the kids, it's so weird calling them
- 14:53Speaker 2: kids because they're like grown. Do you feel we're always kids?
- 14:56Speaker 1: Yeah, So it's every time I say I like, my
- 15:02Speaker 1: brain can't fully process it. So I'm like kids children,
- 15:05Speaker 1: adult kids.
- 15:05Speaker 2: Like you guys know what we're talking about. We're gonna
- 15:07Speaker 2: have to like figure out a new word. Yeah, another word,
- 15:11Speaker 2: because every time I say kids, I'm thinking people are
- 15:13Speaker 2: gonna think that they're like six. We are adults.
- 15:17Speaker 1: Humans are adults, are in the active stages of becoming
- 15:24Speaker 1: who they are.
- 15:25Speaker 2: Mental.
- 15:26Speaker 1: Absolutely, if you haven't taken the time to watch the episodes,
- 15:31Speaker 1: we encourage you to watch it. Yes, you can listen
- 15:35Speaker 1: on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, you can listen and view it
- 15:39Speaker 1: on YouTube. There are so many platforms for you guys
- 15:43Speaker 1: to listen in. But again, we are incredibly thankful for
- 15:46Speaker 1: our community and for the viewers who support us, and
- 15:50Speaker 1: we look forward to you guys just navigating the space
- 15:54Speaker 1: with us and continuing to follow and support us as
- 15:59Speaker 1: we go to on this journey.
- 16:01Speaker 2: Yes, it's gonna be a ride, so come along. It's
- 16:04Speaker 2: gonna be a ride than you. Bye everybody, thank you
- 16:07Speaker 2: for listening. Bye Tea, Bye girl.
