Transcript
- 0:09SPEAKER_00: Welcome to the Daily Writer, where we share a lesson each day to help you cultivate the habits for creative success.
- 0:16SPEAKER_00: In the Pixar movie Finding Nemo, we meet Marlon, a clown fish who's looking for his son Nemo.
- 0:23SPEAKER_00: On his way to find him, he meets Dory, a black and blue tang fish who has short-term memory loss.
- 0:30SPEAKER_00: In spite of her limited mental capacity, she gives Marlon a great piece of advice that eventually helps him locate his son.
- 0:37SPEAKER_00: She says, just keep swimming.
- 0:40SPEAKER_00: This is great advice not only for finding lost kids, but also for finding lost words.
- 0:45SPEAKER_00: When you feel blocked, when you feel like the words just won't come, remember the words of the novelist Jody Picult.
- 0:52SPEAKER_00: She said this.
- 0:53SPEAKER_00: I don't believe in writer's block.
- 0:56SPEAKER_00: Think about it.
- 0:57SPEAKER_00: When you were blocked in college and had to write a paper, didn't it always manage to fix itself the night before the paper was due?
- 1:03SPEAKER_00: Writer's block is having too much time on your hands.
- 1:06SPEAKER_00: If you have a limited amount of time to write, you just sit down and do it.
- 1:10SPEAKER_00: You might not write well every day, but you can always edit a bad page.
- 1:15SPEAKER_00: You can't edit a blank page.
- 1:17SPEAKER_00: The very best thing you can do for your writing career is just keep writing.
- 1:22SPEAKER_00: No matter how bad it is, you can always improve it later.
- 1:25SPEAKER_00: Just get the words down and keep on moving.
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: Those blocks that are keeping you from writing are just like Pixar characters.
- 1:32SPEAKER_00: They may seem real, but they don't actually exist.
- 1:36SPEAKER_00: Hey, thanks so much for checking out today's episode.
- 1:39SPEAKER_00: As always, I truly appreciate you listening.
- 1:42SPEAKER_00: As you probably realize, I pour my heart and my soul into this podcast, and I really, truly enjoy creating it and writing it and recording it and all that stuff.
- 1:51SPEAKER_00: And so it means the world whenever people listen to it.
- 1:53SPEAKER_00: So on today's episode, we've talked about writer's block and how do you stay creative.
- 1:58SPEAKER_00: And one of the very best ways to do that is being part of a great community.
- 2:02SPEAKER_00: So as you've already heard me talk about on past episodes, we have the Daily Rider Membership Community available.
- 2:08SPEAKER_00: This is an amazing group of people that are doing some really, really cool things right now.
- 2:13SPEAKER_00: And the way that this came about was that for years I searched for the kind of group that I would want to be a part of, but I could never find it.
- 2:20SPEAKER_00: So I had to create my own, and I just absolutely love being a part of this daily writer community group.
- 2:26SPEAKER_00: Some of the features include weekly writing sprints, monthly community calls, calls with guest experts, courses to help you be more productive and successful, and so much more.
- 2:36SPEAKER_00: For more info, you can visit dailyriderlife.comslash community.
- 2:41SPEAKER_00: Thanks so much, and I'll see you tomorrow.
