- 0:01Welcome to authentic living with Roxanne, a place where we have conscious conversations
- 0:08about things that really matter in our lives.
- 0:12And now here's your host, Roxanne Derhodge.
- 0:39Hi, everyone.
- 0:39It's, Roxanne Derhodge again with Authentic Living Roxanne.
- 0:43I'm so happy that you tuned in yet again this week.
- 0:46Today, I have a very special guest that I met, recently in, New York.
- 0:51Mister Rob Tamboya, and Rob has, been in the field of coaching a very, very long time.
- 0:57I'm gonna tell you a little bit about Rob, but I I think best that Rob kind of jump in.
- 1:02Rob is the director of coaching and the VP of global partnerships with champion mindsets.
- 1:08He's the former director of the Les Brown Maximum Achievement, Institute.
- 1:14He his background is he's a gold acceleration strategist.
- 1:18He presently lives in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
- 1:22He's been, his background is you've been to the Wharton School of Business.
- 1:27You, you've been certified as a John Maxwell, certified trainer, and you work a lot with pro
- 1:32sports teams, college teams, individuals and companies that want to increase team
- 1:37engagement, equip leadership skills, and champion strategies.
- 1:43And to avoid those costly mistakes to create peak performance habits, rituals, and
- 1:48strategies.
- 1:49Rob, I hope I've covered everything.
- 1:50I know you've done a lot more than the bio says.
- 1:53Is there anything that I missed that you'd like everybody to to know about you?
- 1:59Yeah.
- 1:59I'll start with a quote.
- 2:00It's so great to be here Roxanne and to join you on this international, amazing webinar and
- 2:08teaching call.
- 2:09Okay.
- 2:10So Will Rogers once said, people were all experts, just the different subjects.
- 2:17Having said that, I'm learning to listen, I'm listening to learn, and life is just so full of
- 2:26opportunities.
- 2:27And one of the key things which champions have is perspective.
- 2:33They have a perspective to know that some things aren't worth investing any space in our
- 2:40brains in.
- 2:41For example, we have a naggy neighbor or there's a, annoying TV program, whatever it is
- 2:48that we don't need to focus on it.
- 2:50That we have so many things to do if we have a finite amount of time.
- 2:55What's interesting is when people say they have no time, but basically they've said yes too
- 3:00many times to too many people, or they've chosen to work 2 jobs instead of one job, for a
- 3:09minimal pay or whatever.
- 3:10So so, basically, we all have the same amount of time, including babies and elderly people.
- 3:16We have 24 hours a day and 116 hours a week plus or minus an hour.
- 3:20We got the daylight savings time going on.
- 3:23So some weeks, it's a 167 hours.
- 3:25And 1 week, it's 169.
- 3:27So the tie time is really interesting.
- 3:30There's a quote on time that goes If time is infinite, how come it seems there's never
- 3:37enough of it?
- 3:41So, yeah, starting with time.
- 3:43It is really, really important.
- 3:45What we choose to do with our time instead of reacting and, having disempowering emotions.
- 3:51So from working, you know, and I know you've worked, you know, a lot with companies, but
- 3:56you've worked a lot with, athletes and Olympians.
- 4:00So tell me the difference between someone like that.
- 4:03And let's say the average person listening really They're doing things.
- 4:07Maybe they're doing things in their physical routine or maybe they're doing things in their
- 4:11business, but they're just not hitting the mark.
- 4:13What's the difference that you see between people like, Olympians compared to say the
- 4:19average person that's really trying to get on track when they have goals.
- 4:25The 2 word answer.
- 4:27Mental toughness.
- 4:29We all have distractions.
- 4:32Everyone.
- 4:34We have challenges.
- 4:35For example, The iPhone keeps updating or let's just say, we can't find our keys or we're
- 4:43having a car problem or somebody is supposed to talk with somebody and they're not picking up
- 4:50their phone or their text message.
- 4:53There there's all these things that happen.
- 4:56And but the fact is, are we celebrating that we're healthy, that our immune system is
- 5:01working, that we're able to breathe without any kind of, mechanical aspiration, you know, the,
- 5:07respiration pro products.
- 5:09You know, there's so many people that have to go for, recall when they have a a problem with
- 5:15their kidneys, the dialysis and everything.
- 5:17Every couple of days, they have to get their blood cleaned.
- 5:20And we have our health and when when, you know, assuming that everybody has good health, here
- 5:26on this, on this, amazing living, authentic living, call that, you know, when it starts
- 5:34with our help to have gratitude, it's so important to have gratitude and also it's very,
- 5:40very, very important to have self respect.
- 5:43A lot of people today will notice that they get themselves into a lot of trouble and it starts
- 5:49that they're lying to themselves.
- 5:51They're not respecting themselves.
- 5:53And as you would say, because you're an expert at living authentic.
- 5:57They're not being authentic.
- 5:59Bernie Miller.
- 6:01He's he's kind of a a friend of a friend.
- 6:03He does some work with a great Mister Les Brown.
- 6:06And Bernie is America's number 1 acting coach.
- 6:09He works with, I can tell you the names.
- 6:11He works with, Cameron Diaz, Samuel Jackson, George Clooney, Leonardo De Caprio, and with on
- 6:18the line.
- 6:19And What he teaches is, well, 1st of all, he promotes acting.
- 6:25He he loves acting, thinks that everybody should learn acting.
- 6:27But we're really what he promotes is that we need to take off our mask of what other people
- 6:32expect of us, and we need to be authentic.
- 6:35We need to know our core values.
- 6:36We need to know what we really believe in, and we need to have confidence on our ability to do
- 6:45things even if some people misunderstand us.
- 6:48That is a huge huge tremor that I just spoke to spoke out, excuse me, is full misunderstood.
- 6:56A lot of issues today for example, in big cities where you have rioting going on and and
- 7:02so much, sadness and anger in my research, what it really starts with is people healing.
- 7:11We all have emotions, which was great human beings, Like, what else would you wanna be on
- 7:16planet Earth?
- 7:17Human beings have the ability.
- 7:19We have our fingers and our thumbs.
- 7:21We're the only, mammals that can text We can do so many things and and cook.
- 7:27You don't see animals cooking.
- 7:28You you know, we're we're able to make.
- 7:30We're we're able to do so many things and we have our minds and our hearts.
- 7:34And the emotions, not to preach or give any kind of religious perspective, but our emotions
- 7:41one would say is our blessing and our curse.
- 7:45So the fact that we have emotions is beautiful.
- 7:48It's an asset And if we didn't, we'd all be moving like the the, how you're supposed to be
- 7:55living in places like, North Korea.
- 7:57You know, where where you have to, you know, go rock the boat and fit in and and don't don't be
- 8:02a, you know, don't don't don't stand out So the fact that we have emotions is, again, in my
- 8:08opinion, it's it's a blessing.
- 8:10It it's a it's a, it's a gift that we have.
- 8:13And the the question is, who has taught us how to use our emotions?
- 8:18Was it our families?
- 8:20Was it our guidance counselors?
- 8:22Was it our teachers?
- 8:23Was it our college professors?
- 8:26Was it somebody else?
- 8:27And most people, again, they have issues.
- 8:31The the core spark of which creates a lot of problems is feeling misunderstood.
- 8:40And that and that detracts a lot of people from going after their goals.
- 8:44Is that what you're saying?
- 8:45That people get distracted because they're misunderstood.
- 8:48And if they perceive themselves as miss under being misunderstood, that detract them from
- 8:54their goals.
- 8:54Is that is that Well, absolutely.
- 8:56Absolutely.
- 8:56What what's going on is people actually hear a lot about, different issues.
- 9:01And there's, I I watch a little bit of, the news just to be current and not be a kid man,
- 9:06but you hear about, you know, border security and hear about, airport security and and
- 9:12building walls to stop drug trafficking and and and so on and so forth.
- 9:16So but people are actually building walls, not using any contractors of pulling permits, but
- 9:23they're building walls, invisible walls around themselves.
- 9:26Because they're feeling misunderstood.
- 9:27So it's really a victim mentality.
- 9:31And I think that most human beings, if you're just pulling two people off the street, they
- 9:35have a different opinion that most people would be cool that, for example, you and I, Roxanne,
- 9:42like, different kind of art.
- 9:43I might be more into stay music, or you might be more into, sculpture or vice versa, and
- 9:49that's cool.
- 9:50But when it comes to certain beliefs.
- 9:53And, what what happens is when people are feeling totally misunderstood, it creates, a
- 10:00lot of tension.
- 10:00For example, let's just say you and I have completely opposite things about some permits.
- 10:06I feel one way and you feel the other way.
- 10:08I mean, completely on either side that we if we could understand each other, and I understood
- 10:16where you're coming from and you understood me, it'd be a lot more amicable.
- 10:20What happens is that regardless if the other person is understood that in in, like, the
- 10:30egotistical way, if we're feeling misunderstood ourselves, in other words, somebody else isn't
- 10:36reading what what we're what we're feeling not what are worth thinking, but what we're feeling
- 10:41that if I feel that you totally understand me, it hurts more.
- 10:45So what has to happen is that Les Brown says somebody else's opinion of us is not of our
- 10:53business.
- 10:55And Yeah.
- 10:57It's important to have a good reputation, especially if you wanna work in corporate
- 11:01America.
- 11:03Not so much in a American political positions.
- 11:06But, anyway, in the corporate America, you have to have a really good reputation.
- 11:09Otherwise, you can do your job like that.
- 11:12And what it's really, really, really important to know yourself and to value yourself.
- 11:19And it's okay to make mistakes But as they say in, I think it was Confucius in China, they
- 11:26say, fall down seven times, get up eight times.
- 11:30So the the so what you're saying then is we all we we all want to be accepted at the end of the
- 11:36day.
- 11:36Right?
- 11:37But in order to achieve goals, sometimes you have to stand alone, to be able to achieve
- 11:43those in and toughen up.
- 11:44You know, I I it being normalized in a way because what you're looking for well, say to
- 11:49what you're trying to achieve this year, Robert, myself, people may not understand why
- 11:54I'm doing what I'm doing, and they might judge me.
- 11:56Right?
- 11:57Like, why, you know, why is she doing this radio show, or why is she speaking, or this,
- 12:01that, or the other, but I understand why I'm doing it because I'm a living within my value
- 12:06about wanting to make a difference in the world, wanting people to get more connected to
- 12:10themselves, recognizing that a lot of people are mentally unwell because of things that
- 12:15they're doing to themselves.
- 12:16And if they could learn different ways, really, we would have a whole lot happier and healthier
- 12:22worlds.
- 12:23If someone doesn't get it and you get detracted off your goal, let's say you're working with
- 12:28some.
- 12:29How do you help them toughen up?
- 12:321st, they need to keep their eye in a prize.
- 12:36They need to know let's just say, for example, very practical example.
- 12:41Somebody wants to be able to run a marathon.
- 12:43And as part of their training, they wanna be able to do 50 push ups at one setting, 50 push
- 12:49ups, which for most people, they cannot do.
- 12:52You have to be in shape in order to do that.
- 12:55To do 50 proper push ups.
- 12:57So if they're at a point where they can do, let's just say, 15, and then they're feeling
- 13:02fatigue or aches or pains or weakness that you have to be able to show them remind them why
- 13:12they wanna do it.
- 13:13For example, Roxanne, you said that you're gonna do the triathlon or the Ironman or the
- 13:18New York marathon or whatever.
- 13:19And you promised yourself that you wanted to that you will be in great shape and that you're
- 13:25gonna have fun refine the odds and achieving your biggest physical goals, you know,
- 13:32accomplishing all that.
- 13:33So I get the fact that whatever.
- 13:35You had the flu or or whatever's going on.
- 13:38You've had a lot of snow.
- 13:39The snow shoveling.
- 13:40Well, what whatever it is.
- 13:42So let's just say, for example, you're doing 15 or somebody else is doing 15, push ups that you
- 13:49can break it down into a intermarry intermediary goal, for example, 20 or 25.
- 13:55So sometimes we have to reset for example, when driving your car and here in America, we
- 14:03haven't become accustomed to, we have a lot of international sign, but we don't understand the
- 14:08metric system.
- 14:09So what are you gonna use miles here?
- 14:11So your car is able to go a hundred miles an hour So the the challenge is that you're in a
- 14:17construction zone and there's traffic.
- 14:20So now you're only able to go thirty miles an hour.
- 14:23But guess what?
- 14:24It's temporary.
- 14:25The cars in front of you are temporary.
- 14:27The construction zone is temporary.
- 14:29That little point of your life is temporary.
- 14:32And, yeah, you kinda have the brakes on you're restricted, but there's a time and a place.
- 14:39So, really, it's not perspective.
- 14:41It's if somebody's feeling stuck, they really need to, work on looking themselves in the
- 14:47mirror and sharing affirmations.
- 14:50For example, I love a challenge I can do this every day and every way I'm becoming healthier
- 14:57and more full of vitality.
- 14:59I love to learn.
- 15:01I love to expand.
- 15:03I love to help people.
- 15:05I love to make a difference.
- 15:07And you know, regardless, for for men out there, you can look at yourself with a very
- 15:14slight smile with confidence, those Superman eyes, and just say, I got this.
- 15:19And for a lady, you can look in front of the mirror and just do the same thing with your
- 15:28Either wonder woman or, whatever superhero you you love the most and just say, well, those
- 15:34eyes say, I got this.
- 15:35And it's really, really important to have fun with yourself.
- 15:38You and I have been on the stage with Les Brown.
- 15:41And one of the things about Les is he reframes things He has fun.
- 15:46Even when he's in tremendous pain, I've actually seen him on stage honoring his
- 15:50commitments where he's had sciatic and terrible back pain.
- 15:53Is feeling really awkward, but he's standing up and laughing and giving his all.
- 15:59And for example, as we all know, let us never had a father around him, not even a, adopted
- 16:07father.
- 16:08His adopted mother, Missus Mimi Brown, raised him, and his mother apparently got pregnant,
- 16:15which wasn't planned by a young man in the military, and she went to Miami, which was not
- 16:21where she lived, to, you know, to go out, you know, through her pregnancy and have to deliver
- 16:26the baby.
- 16:27And, she wasn't familiar with adoption services.
- 16:30So she basically did really a criminal act.
- 16:34She left the babies, twin babies, Leslie and Wesley alone on the floor of abandoned
- 16:39building.
- 16:40So so that's it is what it is.
- 16:43So less as soon as he gets into the room, he stands and hold his posture, and he's looking
- 16:52around a room.
- 16:53Full gratitude.
- 16:54You can just look at this man if you've never seen him before, and you can feel his love and
- 16:58gratitude.
- 16:59And he's looking and he's you could see the emotion in his eyes, and he'll start his speech
- 17:03by saying, I am so blessed, and you'll see a beautiful smile.
- 17:08He says, I am so blessed.
- 17:10I'm so blessed to have 2 mothers.
- 17:12One mother gave me life.
- 17:15The other mother gave me love.
- 17:18Mhmm.
- 17:19So he's not complaining and carrying on and finding an excuse to be, you know, always in
- 17:29the bars and drinking and being intoxicated or using drugs or just feeling sorry for himself.
- 17:37No matter what you guys do for a living, You would love to be a neighbor of Les Brown.
- 17:42He's fun.
- 17:43He's optimistic.
- 17:44It's one of the things that, really, I grew up in.
- 17:47It really doesn't matter.
- 17:48I'm from West County, New York, which is just north of New York City.
- 17:51And, you know, went to school in the 19 eighties.
- 17:54And, It wasn't really where I was raised or what neighborhood I was raised, but I think it
- 17:59was the time period that most people, including my teachers, They had so much optimism about
- 18:06the future about the space program.
- 18:09We're gonna have space shuttles.
- 18:11We're gonna have cell phones.
- 18:12We're have all these cool things.
- 18:14We're gonna have robots cleaning our houses.
- 18:16I'm still waiting to to find out about that.
- 18:19But Yeah.
- 18:20And but but but regardless, I don't totally understand what Kennedy did with the space
- 18:24program.
- 18:24A lot of it's totally over my head.
- 18:26I'm not a rocket scientist, and I'm not sure if we even could have done it.
- 18:29Is so expensive, but it brought a lot of optimism.
- 18:33And today, thanks to Everything.
- 18:38Make news.
- 18:39Thanks to I have an account on Facebook and Twitter and Instagram, but because of social
- 18:43media, because of cable TV, these news channels, which, of course, they do some good.
- 18:48I wanna, appreciate the people who work for all these companies, and they're doing good things
- 18:53and are helping people connect.
- 18:55And thanks to that technology that we're able to connect now on this on this call, and we're
- 19:04able to touch other hearts.
- 19:05So we're able to learn and and collaborate.
- 19:07But the challenge is that people have basically lost their optimism, and it's important to do
- 19:17incantations and to actually go for walks.
- 19:21Even if you're not an athlete, go for a walk, get some vitamin d.
- 19:24You're gonna fit a little bit cold.
- 19:26Bundle up go for a walk, interact with nature.
- 19:29It might just be a pigeon or a squirrel in places like Central Park in New York City, but
- 19:33there'll be some form of nature.
- 19:35And just being around people all the time and, iPhones and computers.
- 19:41It gets old after a while.
- 19:42It really does.
- 19:43So you need to mix with nature.
- 19:45Every once in a while, go to a national park.
- 19:47They have beautiful national parks in Canada, the United States, and many other countries.
- 19:52Probably some of the best reasons we have a lot of tourists in these countries is we have
- 19:56beautiful, beautiful national parks.
- 19:58So get out and do things and, the the the fact is though that what happens is when people are
- 20:04feeling stuck, there's a tendency to self sabotage.
- 20:09So there's certain triggers that go off or, like, sparks, and it's important to know what
- 20:16they are.
- 20:17For example, many people when they get stressed out, where they go?
- 20:21The refrigerator, It's a comfort zone.
- 20:24And, actually, it's hardwired.
- 20:26Here's why I was reading an article on Sports Illustrated, and It was very, very interesting.
- 20:33It was talking about how we train and reward children, how we get children to think certain
- 20:36things.
- 20:37Basically, as Americans, we've been raising children to be adverse to the idea of moving or
- 20:42running and to enjoy the idea of sitting, which is what we do when we end up in nursing homes
- 20:48and senior care centers, or sitting down, eating, and we're rewarding kids where, in
- 20:54other words, a kid can now say the alphabet perfectly in Canadian English, and we give the
- 20:58kid a cupcake.
- 20:59We give the kid candy.
- 21:00We give the kid a piece of cake.
- 21:03And what we really should be doing is giving a lot of excitement which is, non edible.
- 21:08We're just, like, patting them on the back and, like, give me a high five guest girl and, like,
- 21:13I'm so proud of you You can do the alphabet better than I can, and you speak so clearly.
- 21:18And what you wanna do is actually go for a walk with a kid or go out and play with a dog with a
- 21:22kid, some kind of physical exercise and you actually wanna do biking and things like
- 21:28running in a safe place, not in bad weather.
- 21:31But you wanna encourage the kids that moving and even running is a healthy thing.
- 21:38It it it's it's it's an asset just like You have a beautiful car box in, but in case of
- 21:44emergency, you can step on the accelerator.
- 21:46It brings in more oxygen, and that car can fly like a rocket just in case.
- 21:51That it's good to have.
- 21:52So I'm not saying that we should all be runners, but the gift of being able to run is
- 21:58such a great gift what's going on is sports illustrated explained that kids and also,
- 22:04sadly, a lot a lot of, parents and coaches end up believing that running is punishment.
- 22:09For example, we're playing, any sport and somebody makes a mistake.
- 22:14So now because of the mistake, we have the kids doing windscreen, going from one side of the
- 22:18field to the other.
- 22:19And what are we linking to our brain that running is pain?
- 22:23And when we open a refrigerator, Yes.
- 22:26That's heaven.
- 22:28And then a lot of times people sabotage, and they, they may be on a really healthy, living
- 22:34system, by the way Roxanne, Roxanne and her friends have access to very healthy, ways to
- 22:42eat and to detoxify your body and to, really replenish.
- 22:47So if you want more information on that, you wanna contact Roxanne directly.
- 22:51And she can get you on living authentic and essential life in the body that you deserve.
- 22:56But back to back to, the refrigerator is people open up the refrigerators.
- 23:02Basically, they break all their rules.
- 23:04In other words, the, burglar alarm has been turned off notifications are off.
- 23:09They're there, and they eat.
- 23:11So it goes back because it's hardwired for most of us.
- 23:14That when we were kids, when we when we, wanted to feel recognized or rewarded or wanted to
- 23:20feel comfort, what do we do?
- 23:21We comfort food.
- 23:23So I'm not asking anybody to stop eating today, but I am asking you to think about what you do
- 23:30when you're at the period of owing into a, normalization pattern as Roxanne calls it or
- 23:37average mindset, as I call it, that you do not want to just give in and have, like, 1 or 2
- 23:44mistakes and they'd say, I'm having a bad day and they eat a lot of junk food, drink a lot of
- 23:49beer, make a lot of excuses, and what happens we totally lost that whole day.
- 23:54And even worse, it could set up a whole new habit system where the rest of your week could
- 23:59be really tough to get back to even what you wanted to do because you weren't able to, to
- 24:06get out and move.
- 24:07So so Tony Robbins says, the word emotion the the keyword in the word emotion is the word
- 24:13motion.
- 24:14So a lot of the pharmaceuticals and drugs that they make people feel good.
- 24:20They have different chemicals in them, but it's temporary.
- 24:23And then they may not cause liver or, organ damage, brain cell damage.
- 24:28But the the real treat is to get out.
- 24:30So when you're feeling down, go for a walk.
- 24:35Believe in yourself, reflect on your accomplishments, do some affirmations.
- 24:41You can look up great affirmations, and, I think that perhaps Roxanne and I may be giving
- 24:46you guys a bonus.
- 24:47We're working on some projects where we can have some great affirmations between us and Les
- 24:52Brown.
- 24:53I can assemble that myself, and we can give that to you as a free gift.
- 24:56If you like 30 emotions or 31 emotions, one for every day of the month.
- 25:00How's that sound?
- 25:01Sounds amazing.
- 25:02But you know what?
- 25:03I what I hear clearly, and I see it often when I'm working with people or companies is that
- 25:08you're right.
- 25:09It's people are well intentioned with their goals, right?
- 25:12But they're not vetted or hooked to really what they value and believe So they are, you know,
- 25:18arbitrarily saying I wanna grow my business.
- 25:20So I wanna get in shape, but they're not talking about the why they're doing Like, why
- 25:25am I why am I wanting to make a difference in the world?
- 25:28Well, I'm hoping that if I make a difference in the world, there'll be less, issues around the
- 25:32anxiety and depression.
- 25:34And if we have more less anxiety than depression, we'll have less things that, like,
- 25:37happened out, out your way in, Fort Lauderdale, Parkland, you know, so we're gonna just have a
- 25:43nicer society just overall.
- 25:46I'm sure why do you do what you do, Rob?
- 25:48Like, when you do all your, you know, mind champion mindsets, initiatives with Les Brown
- 25:55and, all the others that you work with, why do you do them?
- 25:59Why do you do what you do and what difference are you trying to make in the world?
- 26:04Okay.
- 26:04That's a great question, and I'm gonna start with a quote, which actually was just a few
- 26:09sentences I heard on a phone call, and I jotted it down.
- 26:11It's become a quote because I recorded my friend talking to me.
- 26:14I I wrote it down, of course, I was talking to Oscar Arias who him and I created the coaching
- 26:20program for the Les Brown Institute, and we were talking a little bit about careers.
- 26:25And he said, We can find a job.
- 26:30We can choose a career, or we can live our calling.
- 26:36And I realized years ago, it was actually 2004 that I was not being authentic.
- 26:44I had a achiever mindset, and I had some mixed messages, which actually is more common than
- 26:50you think from a lot of men for younger men, there's a lot of that.
- 26:55And what happened is I thought that when I became a millionaire, That's what would make me
- 27:00happy.
- 27:01Again, I grew up in New York.
- 27:02I'm not making excuses, but I had that achievement mindset where I realized that It's
- 27:09kinda like thinking it moves ahead playing chess.
- 27:12I realized that even if everything worked out exactly as I intended, that working and just
- 27:20making money and not following my heart wouldn't make me happy.
- 27:27As a matter of fact, a lot of us have opportunities to make money and be with people
- 27:32or or in places that we wouldn't choose to to be in because of the stress and the the the the
- 27:39just the the morals of it.
- 27:41So what I realized is I was made to make a difference.
- 27:50I think we're cut from the same cloth, as, Les Brown would say Roxanne.
- 27:55So back in 2004, I started to notice how certain athletic teams consistently would have
- 28:07not only great coaching, but great product that that their, student athletes would I mean, have
- 28:15have a great year.
- 28:15So in other words, an off year, they were winning 60 or 70% of their games on a off year.
- 28:21On a good year, they're winning, maybe 80, 90% of their games, reaching the state
- 28:26championship.
- 28:27Looking at, like, for example, places around the New York area with high school sports and
- 28:32and also college sports with certain college teams or, as you would say, in Canada,
- 28:37university teams, that have consistent results.
- 28:41And really based on my research, I found that it starts with high standards.
- 28:46It's kinda like the United States Marine Corps.
- 28:49Say what you want about the Marine Corps.
- 28:51But in certain metrics, they have very, very high standards and not everybody can fit and
- 28:54become a marine.
- 28:56Or get a promotion in the marine corps.
- 28:58The the the very, very tough.
- 29:00It's it's it's like the, some of the school systems in Europe is very, very difficult.
- 29:05So what I found is I found my heart.
- 29:09And the reason I do what I do is it's helped me a lot with my life.
- 29:14That, having a coach, becoming a better listener, learning effective ways for me to
- 29:22organize my life, to prioritize, to handle adversities.
- 29:30It's been such a blessing.
- 29:32So I've been involved with goal setting and personal development.
- 29:37It started year 2000, ironically.
- 29:40It's kind of where 2000 is a very interesting year.
- 29:44We had these elections in, United States, particularly in Florida, where there was
- 29:49problems with the election machines in Miami.
- 29:51And also here in Broward County or Fort Lauderdale.
- 29:55And, it was a very close election.
- 29:56There's a couple thousand votes, could have made a difference between president Gore and
- 30:01president George W Bush.
- 30:03And there was a lot of, since then, there's been a lot of division and polarization for
- 30:09people.
- 30:10And I'm not actually a part of that crowd.
- 30:11I'm very independent, and I'm a maverick, and I'm not here to judge any political thinking.
- 30:16I think most people wanna do good.
- 30:19Inside.
- 30:20But, again, what I'm looking for is optimism and show me a a a a way of thinking.
- 30:26That's very optimistic, and I'm gonna join your party.
- 30:29But back to, why I do what I do is I love it.
- 30:34It's my calling.
- 30:36I'm a partner in a business.
- 30:37We put on events.
- 30:38And it's fun, and I enjoy it.
- 30:41And sometimes I'm on stage, and it's fun and I laugh.
- 30:45And, I I make people smile and I share valuable information just like I'm doing now.
- 30:51However, coaching is my, my gift It's something that not everybody can do.
- 30:58You have to have empathy.
- 31:00You have to be able to learn advanced listening skills.
- 31:04You have to help others organize and prioritize with 0 judgment.
- 31:10For example, you could have completely different belief systems than your coach, and
- 31:14we're here to support you just like if we were a doctor or, lifeguard or firefighter in order
- 31:22to help everybody and, which I'd like to share a great quote, which is me rounded.
- 31:29It's her mother Theresa.
- 31:30She's become a saint.
- 31:32So, she's also known as Saint Theresa.
- 31:34She worked a lot with Princess Diana doing some great things to help poor people in India.
- 31:39Prince, excuse me.
- 31:41Mother Theresa said, if you spend your life judging people, when we have time to love them?
- 31:52Good.
- 31:52Good.
- 31:52Good quote.
- 31:53And, you know, I can I obviously, I was privileged to speak with, Les Brown and and
- 31:59your your organization champion mindset in December?
- 32:02And I, you know, I tell you what I thought?
- 32:04You know, I I know I came in the the night before.
- 32:07And out of anything, I remember you, I remember, Eric and just sitting around such
- 32:16nice people.
- 32:17Honestly, you know, because you're not sure.
- 32:18You're going into New York City and you're speaking with Brown, and you're not really sure
- 32:22how it's gonna go.
- 32:23And really even down to, you know, all the crew, like, what fantastic people If anything,
- 32:30that's what, I left New York thinking, you know, you know, what a great organization to be
- 32:35involved with, and you should be very proud that, you're involved with it.
- 32:38And even less like, you know, meeting him for the first time.
- 32:41And the gift that that man has around captivating your attention.
- 32:49When I would speak to him, when I spoke to him, you know, through the 2 days, It was like
- 32:54nobody else existed in that room, except me.
- 32:59And what what a special gift that he has been given that he continues to give to the world.
- 33:04Truly amazing.
- 33:06And I shared on another podcast that my son, I had said to him, Hey, you know, I'd like you.
- 33:13I was telling him a little bit about my son, and he picked up the phone and called him.
- 33:19Here we are in the lobby of the hotel.
- 33:22And I said, well, I'd like I was thinking about just having him, you know, film something.
- 33:26I thought, what an opportunity?
- 33:27Right?
- 33:28It'll be a lifetime memory for RJ.
- 33:30What does Les do?
- 33:31He says, call him.
- 33:32I said, are you kidding?
- 33:34He goes, no.
- 33:34No.
- 33:34No.
- 33:34Call him.
- 33:35And he spent the time with, with him on the phone.
- 33:38At first, I think because, you know, his voice, right, Archie thought it was a recording, and
- 33:43then he realized, oh my goodness.
- 33:45This is Les Brown.
- 33:45Now the he's not the typical sixteen year old because he's been listening to Les for years.
- 33:50And so he was sharing with Les and and, you know, he was he was stand that he took the
- 33:56time.
- 33:57And I will that'll that in of itself, other than being on stage with Les Brown, that was
- 34:01the memory that I will take with myself for the rest of my life.
- 34:04The fact that he took the time and was reflective of his entire team, you all, are so
- 34:11kind and gentle, which, really made, made my first time on a big stage, worth that's coming
- 34:16to New York.
- 34:17So, you you embody kindness and gentleness and authenticity.
- 34:23And that's why it was an organization that I really, love being connected with and, and, you
- 34:28know, hope to continue being connected with you.
- 34:30Now you have shared so much today, and I know you have, a project that you're working on, and
- 34:38I would like you to if there's anything else you wanna share before we kind of let you go
- 34:43back to your busy time, I know you took an hour out to spend with me and my audience, Tell us,
- 34:50where people can reach you and any projects that you're working on that, things that you
- 34:54like people to know and how they can get a hold of you all.
- 34:57Sure.
- 35:00I have a one page.
- 35:03It's a, a one page website.
- 35:05It's easy to reach.
- 35:06It's about AB0ut.me.
- 35:12It's not.com.
- 35:13It's dotme.
- 35:14So about dot m like Michael, e for Edward Slash champion Coach.
- 35:23My Twitter and Instagram is championcoach.
- 35:27My LinkedIn is linkedin.com/in slash champion coach, direct link for Facebook.
- 35:35I'm not on Facebook that often, because of all the ads and everything, but, If you'd like to
- 35:41add me there, I can add you back.
- 35:42It's, facebook.com/champion life.
- 35:47That one is different.
- 35:48It's not champion coaches.
- 35:49Facebook.com/championlife.
- 35:52And, I do have some pages.
- 35:56Let me see.
- 35:57Facebook dotcom slash champion life team.
- 36:00That's for, my business.
- 36:03We also have champion mindset events on Facebook.
- 36:06We can search for that.
- 36:07To get facebook dot com slash champion mindset events.
- 36:10So that those are ways you can reach me.
- 36:13My phone is United States number.
- 36:16It's 9319 Winbig, which is 931-994 6244.
- 36:26And, I do post on Instagram probably a few times a week I need to tweet some more.
- 36:34But again, as I said in the very beginning, I see a lot of, negativity and, like, same old
- 36:40pattern.
- 36:40It's like, I don't wanna get back on that same roller coaster of, you know, stress and doubt
- 36:46and and frustration and feeling other people's emotions We're all human.
- 36:50What's great again is that we can feel each other's emotions.
- 36:53So I choose not to be a big head, not to be an elitist, I choose to do things that are really,
- 36:58really rewarding, meaningful, and fun, and all natural, by the way.
- 37:04One of the big projects I'm working on actually knew 2 of the adults that were ordered on
- 37:09February 14th in the next town for me, which is Parkland.
- 37:12I live in Coconut Creek, Florida.
- 37:14And, I knew the athletic director, Chris Hixson, knew him fairly well.
- 37:19And, great guy, and he had a great reputation.
- 37:21He actually had a great vision, right, soon found out about through the head football
- 37:26coach.
- 37:27I'm working with his name's Coach Marshall.
- 37:29Excuse me.
- 37:30Coach Willis May.
- 37:31Coach Willis May.
- 37:32And He also lost another coach, which was his offensive line coach, coach Aaron Feis, and he
- 37:40died a heroic death in, saving the lives of a couple girls that were escaping the school, and
- 37:46he was wounded and died in the hospital.
- 37:49And, the other teacher, I did not know It's Mister Beagle and the 14 children.
- 37:55I did not know.
- 37:57But, It's very sad, but what's going on is the community needs hope.
- 38:05The community needs love.
- 38:07The world needs love.
- 38:09And so there's various ways that you can help out.
- 38:14There's all kinds of fundraisers that have already happened.
- 38:17There are more that are happening.
- 38:19I'm working with him there.
- 38:20I'm working with a friend of mine, Bobby Morgan.
- 38:23He's one of America's top Pro sports agents.
- 38:26And, I'm working with, a lot of great people in the community, including the mayor and the,
- 38:32principal of the school.
- 38:33And, again, the football coach American Football Coach, which is, a really fun sport
- 38:39for, the kids to play.
- 38:40And what we're doing is we're going to create a project it's got a budget of $23,000,000 and
- 38:46stability.
- 38:47Roxanne Hall.
- 38:48Hixson is named after the athletic director who had this dream of creating facilities to, have
- 38:55the the the school.
- 38:57It's, they have a grass field and they have lights and they have a metal preachers.
- 39:01That's all they have.
- 39:02They don't have any bathrooms there.
- 39:05School is very far away.
- 39:06It's a long walk city.
- 39:07They rent porta potties.
- 39:09They have, temporary, outhouses in these athletic conferences.
- 39:14They, they need bathrooms.
- 39:16They need locker room for the visiting team.
- 39:18The home team uses the PE, which is physical education locker room.
- 39:22It's far from this school to the field.
- 39:24It's also a danger in case we have lightning and bad weather.
- 39:28So we wouldn't have a visitor locker room for all sports, soccer, football, etcetera, across
- 39:33and a home locker room.
- 39:34We wanna have a concession stand.
- 39:37We wanna have, perhaps, 17 flags and flag poles to honor each of the angels that that we have
- 39:43lost, wanna have it very well themed.
- 39:46I just found out last night that the firm that redesigned the Dolphin's Miami Dolphin Stadium,
- 39:52now known Sun Life Stadium, the firm has gotten involved to build build blueprints, build a a
- 39:59nice, athletic facility and memorial for this school.
- 40:04It's a county school district.
- 40:06Well, Florida has County school districts.
- 40:08So the school district doesn't have the funding for this, but you could get a hold of me.
- 40:13We already have pledged $500,000.
- 40:17I I don't have liberty now to explain the 2 donors, but we have 2 donors at each have
- 40:21pledged quarter of a $1,000,000.
- 40:23And, I'm contacting other companies that I know, they have friends there.
- 40:30Big companies like Under Armour, and I'm sure they're gonna get onboard.
- 40:34And, so there's a lot of ways.
- 40:36I'm not asking for money, but if you know somebody would like to be involved or perhaps
- 40:41somehow you'd like to volunteer even virtual virtual volunteers we have nowadays.
- 40:46To help with some of the admin and connecting and promoting.
- 40:49So, that's something very important.
- 40:52These teachers and the kids has 32100 kids in school.
- 40:56They they went through, like, a a battlefield type of situation.
- 41:00Very stressful.
- 41:02A lot of kids are considering becoming homeschooled because just the post traumatic
- 41:06stress of going for any school is becoming very difficult because they don't know if there's
- 41:11gonna be a fire or something worse happening.
- 41:14So, we wanna love all these kids.
- 41:16We want to, empower them.
- 41:19And I'd like just to share a few more of my quotes with you Roxanne as we wrap up.
- 41:25Sure.
- 41:25Sure.
- 41:26So
- 41:26I I just want it before I just wanted to, Jack, before you go into your quote, I'm a a post
- 41:30traumatic stress experts.
- 41:32So if there's anything I can do to volunteer my time, Rob, please let me know.
- 41:36In whatever way I can help out, I would be very, very happy to get back So let me know.
- 41:41So go ahead with your coach.
- 41:42Absolutely.
- 41:43Well, one of the things we're planning is a champion mindset Pro Day where we have a
- 41:47particular pro athletes come to the school, and we have as many as many families as necessary
- 41:53to get all the teachers and the students through because I know the auditorium doesn't
- 41:59hold 3400 seats for the staff and the the students So, and then after school, we'll have,
- 42:07various, skilled drones for the athletes with, the the school athletes as well as the pro
- 42:14athletes where they can learn more interactive, and it'd be really fun.
- 42:17Even if the sports out of season, for example, other sports, like, soccer and basketball.
- 42:23Their season is over, and, they still would be able to connect with our teammates and have
- 42:29this So, you could be involved in that.
- 42:31We could actually have you either fly in or play terrible at your hotel and travel expenses
- 42:37and we can also have you virtually where we can do a zoom call or something better.
- 42:43Some of my quotes, Really, we have to really, really be careful of eating what average people
- 42:49eat and thinking what average people think and reacting the way average people react.
- 42:54I'm not saying anything bad about my family or a lot of people I went to school with, a lot of
- 42:59my neighbors, but, really, mindset is a choice.
- 43:04So I say this.
- 43:05It's become a quote and say this a lot.
- 43:07In my opinion, I feel the average mindset is highly overrated.
- 43:13Which leads to a question, why be Ab anyway, where we have alternative lifestyle choices as
- 43:19far as our our mindset, we can we can have a a higher standard and not the fault of that
- 43:25average mindset.
- 43:27And one of my other quotes, just to share with you, you have not seen less fraud, you wanna
- 43:33see him.
- 43:33My company, we're having more events coming up this year with us.
- 43:38My next event, big event will be in Deerfield Beach, Florida, which is Little Port
- 43:42Lauderdale.
- 43:43On April 26th at the Doubletree, Hotel, Hilton Doubletree, and it'll be all day.
- 43:51Omar Paradu, our 1 to month Alamo, Eric Staller, and many others.
- 43:56It's gonna be a champion mindset who has a negotiation day.
- 44:00It's a very, very in-depth and, a very exclusive event.
- 44:06But the the quote that, Les Brown will end his speech.
- 44:10Les Brown, he won't be at that that event, by the way.
- 44:12He's he'll be in a different city that day, April 26.
- 44:16Les Brown, when he concludes his speech, let's says, quote, you have something special.
- 44:24You have greatness within.
- 44:26That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.
- 44:28He says that in a very deep, deep voice, which doesn't make me any less of a man.
- 44:34Higher notes better than him.
- 44:35I'm not sure.
- 44:36And, anyway, ah, he's so powerful to to hear him speak.
- 44:39You wrote to yourself, everybody, to see It's it's it's a he's, I believe he's seventy two
- 44:44years old now, seventy three, and, it's time to, to go out of your way.
- 44:50And go to New York or Canada or somewhere and see less.
- 44:54So out of that quote, where Les says you have something special, you have great within, and
- 44:59then he says that's my story.
- 45:00And I'm sticking to it.
- 45:01I created a quote within a quote.
- 45:03It's called a remix.
- 45:04Unless loves it, his eyes, like, popped out, good smile, and gave me a hug I created a re a
- 45:10requote.
- 45:11It goes like this.
- 45:12Instead of you have greatness, we all have courage and greatness within us.
- 45:17And opportunity all around us.
- 45:22I love it.
- 45:22I love it.
- 45:23And, do say hi to Les, for me.
- 45:27And maybe maybe he would consider coming on the show.
- 45:30I would absolutely would I would be truly honored if he would consider it.
- 45:34I know he's a busy man at some point in his in his schedule.
- 45:37And, Robert, it's been a pleasure.
- 45:39I know you were one of the first people I met in New York and I'm so happy that we stayed
- 45:43connected.
- 45:44And, definitely, I'll probably see again soon.
- 45:48So thanks again for for being on on my show living with Roxanne.
- 45:53So for my listeners, what an opportunity, what things said that we walked away with again
- 45:58today, and the importance of taking care of your biggest, your asset, which is your mind,
- 46:05it's something that, daily, you have to invest in and I would say as basic as we wouldn't
- 46:11think about not brushing your teeth and putting on a or a shoes before we leave the house or a
- 46:17clothes, It's the same thing.
- 46:19So being authenticated connected to who you are, you're one of a kind.
- 46:23You are made from one mold, and then that mold no longer exists because you're special.
- 46:29So if you're wanting any more information on, authenticity, please go ahead and go to my
- 46:34website at roxanderhodge.com and I speak at events, corporations, and I do coaching and
