- 0:00Speaker 1: We do have one hour left and we are joined
- 0:02Speaker 1: by co founder, co host of All Things Talon. He
- 0:05Speaker 1: is JD. Johnson. Hello, sir, how are.
- 0:07Speaker 2: You good morning?
- 0:08Speaker 1: I'm good. Appreciate you pinch hitting, especially under duress. It happens,
- 0:14Speaker 1: you're under duress. Never, Yes, you are. Man. You've had
- 0:18Speaker 1: two youngins get married this year, one getting that's duress. Yeah.
- 0:22Speaker 2: Yeah, my bike account will never be the same again.
- 0:26Speaker 1: Please not for a minute.
- 0:27Speaker 2: I'm excited my court Saturday Saturday evening and we're excited
- 0:32Speaker 2: about it, and.
- 0:33Speaker 1: So do weddings involving J D. Johnson. Kids have a
- 0:36Speaker 1: twenty one gun salute. No no, no, no, no, Okay,
- 0:40Speaker 1: you heard the story. We ended the hour on a
- 0:42Speaker 1: teacher being shot by a six year old in the classroom. JD.
- 0:51Speaker 2: You know, it's just the times we live in, unfortunately,
- 0:54Speaker 2: and you got people that are you know, sometimes busy,
- 0:59Speaker 2: maybe in lack of day physical about where their firearms
- 1:02Speaker 2: end up. And we can all be guilty of that.
- 1:05Speaker 2: You know it shouldn't be, but we we, you know,
- 1:08Speaker 2: get preoccupied with things. Yeah, and just on the parent's fault. Yeah,
- 1:14Speaker 2: you know, in my opinion, there's a whole lot of
- 1:17Speaker 2: the kids behavior in general is sometimes the parent's fault.
- 1:21Speaker 1: Unless that six year old's dealing in the black market
- 1:23Speaker 1: fighting firearms, yeah, which I highly doubt. Yeah, hey tell
- 1:29Speaker 1: me this. I wanted I want to tea up this
- 1:32Speaker 1: topic for a couple of segments here because I know
- 1:34Speaker 1: you're you're a historian, you love this stuff, and I
- 1:39Speaker 1: think it's useful for people to just hear different perspectives
- 1:42Speaker 1: on topics that we cover on the show routinely, and
- 1:46Speaker 1: one of them is the reason why we have a
- 1:49Speaker 1: second Amendment. I think a lot of people don't fully
- 1:53Speaker 1: understand the depth of the reason why we have it.
- 1:59Speaker 1: And it wasn't us for.
- 2:00Speaker 3: Hunting, had zero to do with hunting, right, But that's
- 2:04Speaker 3: what a lot of people think.
- 2:06Speaker 1: Well, they had it there. The left tries to paint
- 2:09Speaker 1: it as though they had to hunt. They had to
- 2:11Speaker 1: hunt for their food. That's why they had it.
- 2:13Speaker 2: Now they were farmers, they didn't have to hunt for
- 2:15Speaker 2: their food. Farmers general generally speak and have livestock that
- 2:19Speaker 2: readily available to go harvest meat in the backyard or
- 2:22Speaker 2: in the in the pen. No, it's it's it's plain
- 2:26Speaker 2: and simple. You know, our founding fathers when they wrote
- 2:30Speaker 2: the Constitution, wrote the Bill of Rights. They were they
- 2:32Speaker 2: had been under tyrannical oppression for a long time. They've
- 2:36Speaker 2: been under the King of England. And you know, sometimes
- 2:39Speaker 2: you have a benevolent, benevolent king and sometimes you don't.
- 2:45Speaker 2: So they wrote the Second Amendment and they put it
- 2:49Speaker 2: where it was, you know, and it's everybody jokes about it.
- 2:53Speaker 2: You can say whatever you want to say, as crazy
- 2:55Speaker 2: as it may be, but you need a gun. You
- 2:58Speaker 2: better have a gun to back it up. The Second
- 3:00Speaker 2: Amendment is in place to what was put in place
- 3:03Speaker 2: to allow the overthrow of government, essentially, the overthrow if
- 3:10Speaker 2: you ended up with a bad tyrannical government, to allow militias,
- 3:14Speaker 2: which is the citizens. It's always been the citizens. It's
- 3:18Speaker 2: never been a national Guard or it's always been the citizens.
- 3:23Speaker 2: What it was during the Revolutionary War, to allow them
- 3:26Speaker 2: to form and create a new government that represented the people.
- 3:30Speaker 2: If you read the you know, some of the other
- 3:33Speaker 2: papers and articles that went into the forming of our
- 3:37Speaker 2: Bill of Rights and our Constitution, they were all marching
- 3:41Speaker 2: in the same direction, is that we have to be
- 3:43Speaker 2: able to have a citizen army to defend our freedom,
- 3:49Speaker 2: to defend our way of life, to defend our republic,
- 3:54Speaker 2: to prevent a tyrannical government from happening.
- 4:00Speaker 1: Back with Jad Johnson of the Talent Training Group our
- 4:02Speaker 1: personal defense segment, we'll get into more specific personal defense
- 4:05Speaker 1: related things, but the hub of all, the foundation for
- 4:09Speaker 1: all personal defense discussions is the Second Amendment. Our founders,
- 4:13Speaker 1: you know, not only did they learn from from the
- 4:15Speaker 1: rule of England, but they learned from the rule of
- 4:18Speaker 1: the other countries in Europe. They were looking at history
- 4:21Speaker 1: and what was happening, and they set us apart. For
- 4:23Speaker 1: that reason. You mentioned the militia. The actual militia today
- 4:28Speaker 1: are people just like I mean, yeah, your former law enforcement.
- 4:32Speaker 1: But they're people like you and me.
- 4:34Speaker 2: Right, Yeah, that that We're no different than the you know,
- 4:38Speaker 2: the the talk about the Continentals, Continental Army, this old Uh.
- 4:42Speaker 2: They were farmers that lived in the community. The guys
- 4:45Speaker 2: that fought in at Lexington and Concord didn't run up
- 4:50Speaker 2: to U Massachusetts from Georgia.
- 4:54Speaker 1: They were just local guys. Yeah.
- 4:56Speaker 2: They were they were barkeepers, they were beer makers, they
- 4:58Speaker 2: were farmers, they were you.
- 5:00Speaker 1: Know, and they were under threat.
- 5:02Speaker 2: Yeah, they were cobblers, they were tinkers, they you know,
- 5:04Speaker 2: they were just guys, businessmen, community leaders, whatever else it said,
- 5:09Speaker 2: got together and said, we're done with this. We're done
- 5:13Speaker 2: with the king housing soldiers in our homes, taking our
- 5:17Speaker 2: property from us, telling us what we can and can't
- 5:20Speaker 2: do with our lives. And they stood up and faulted,
- 5:25Speaker 2: you know, and died a lot of them.
- 5:28Speaker 1: Even to today. I went and looked up the gun
- 5:30Speaker 1: laws in Venezuela. They changed dramatically in twenty thirteen. Look
- 5:36Speaker 1: what's happened, right socialism. They've disarmed the people. Nigeria. They
- 5:41Speaker 1: disarmed the people. The people that they want to have
- 5:44Speaker 1: guns have guns. The average person can't have a gun.
- 5:49Speaker 2: That's that has happened throughout the world. If you look
- 5:52Speaker 2: back at some of the some of the greatest genocides
- 5:57Speaker 2: in countries, Pole Pot one of the worst, Stalin, you know,
- 6:03Speaker 2: you look at all the Hitler. First thing Hitler did
- 6:06Speaker 2: disarmed the Jews, you know, went into the completely disarmed
- 6:10Speaker 2: the citizens of Germany except for the ones that he
- 6:13Speaker 2: didn't want disarmed that would follow him. Happens has happened
- 6:17Speaker 2: throughout history over and over again. There's some other countries
- 6:20Speaker 2: out there right now that are super ripe for this
- 6:22Speaker 2: Australia being one of them.
- 6:24Speaker 1: Yes, it is super ripe.
- 6:26Speaker 2: It's just a matter of when's the strong man going
- 6:29Speaker 2: to show up? You know where they where they and
- 6:32Speaker 2: they voluntarily allowed themselves to be disarmed. England is on
- 6:37Speaker 2: the precipice of becoming a third world socialist country. I
- 6:42Speaker 2: have a really good friend that lives in Herefordshire, England,
- 6:45Speaker 2: that I was visiting with. Spent about three hours with
- 6:47Speaker 2: him a week ago. He and his wife are over
- 6:50Speaker 2: visiting and he's a former s a s fought in
- 6:53Speaker 2: the Falkland Islands or he's he's a he's a real.
- 6:56Speaker 1: He's a real dude. He sees it coming.
- 6:58Speaker 2: Oh yeah, and they're they're actively getting ready to move
- 7:03Speaker 2: to Florida. They're they're they're in the process.
- 7:07Speaker 1: Of because they're watching their nation transform.
- 7:09Speaker 2: He knows exactly what he sees, exactly what's happened. He's
- 7:12Speaker 2: in and they recognize that they've got to get out now.
- 7:15Speaker 2: There's still hope anytime there's still patriots, there's always hope
- 7:20Speaker 2: that you will see something change. But they're essentially disarmed.
- 7:24Speaker 1: Well, they're arresting people for stating anything that they don't like.
- 7:27Speaker 2: Yeah, when you when you start putting people in jail
- 7:29Speaker 2: for disagreeing with the current politics. You know, when you
- 7:33Speaker 2: start when you start putting people in jail for for
- 7:37Speaker 2: saying things or or having an opinion, let's just say,
- 7:39Speaker 2: having an opinion that they allow to be known. It's coming,
- 7:46Speaker 2: you know, it's something worse is next.
- 7:49Speaker 1: And that's why the Second Amendment is so unique in
- 7:52Speaker 1: our nation and so important.
- 7:54Speaker 2: Absolutely, they those guys that that wrote that stuff down,
- 7:58Speaker 2: the all the the guys you got up there on
- 8:00Speaker 2: your Yeah, they recognized that every one of them, every
- 8:04Speaker 2: one of them, recognized that they were so little, so
- 8:08Speaker 2: little dissent among them. You know when when that document
- 8:13Speaker 2: was formed.
- 8:14Speaker 1: The right to keep and bear keeping as in the
- 8:18Speaker 1: assumption was you got them.
- 8:21Speaker 2: They believed that it was a god given right. It
- 8:26Speaker 2: wasn't a government given right, it wasn't an entitlement. It
- 8:30Speaker 2: was something that God God gave them that said you
- 8:33Speaker 2: you need to have the ability, We have the ability
- 8:36Speaker 2: the necessity to defend ourselves. And that's from from an
- 8:40Speaker 2: individual perspective or from a national perspective.
- 8:44Speaker 1: And that's what gave birth to these segments. The personal
- 8:47Speaker 1: defense segments will move on next on the Morning Show
- 8:50Speaker 1: with Preston Scott, twenty one Past the Hour Back with J. D.
- 8:55Speaker 1: Johnson of the Talent Training Group, co host Talent Outdoors
- 8:58Speaker 1: with Charlie Strickland and co founder of the Talent the
- 9:04Speaker 1: Growing Talent business profile. Open carry is now a thing.
- 9:13Speaker 1: I know that there will be efforts in the Republican
- 9:16Speaker 1: run legislature, sadly to water it down and make it
- 9:19Speaker 1: more difficult in the coming session. But that being said,
- 9:22Speaker 1: Florida is now in open carry state. Have you noticed anything? Nope,
- 9:27Speaker 1: me either.
- 9:28Speaker 2: Kind of figured it'd be that way. You know, I
- 9:31Speaker 2: go to Georgia. I spend a lot of time in
- 9:32Speaker 2: Georgia and now Alabama, having a child that goes to
- 9:35Speaker 2: school and goes to college there, and they've been open
- 9:39Speaker 2: carry for a long time. It's not just not just
- 9:42Speaker 2: a recent development.
- 9:43Speaker 3: You know.
- 9:44Speaker 1: Occasionally I will see somebody.
- 9:46Speaker 2: We were up in Troy a couple of weeks ago
- 9:48Speaker 2: visiting our daughter for parents weekend and went to a
- 9:51Speaker 2: restaurant up there and saw a guy carrying a you know,
- 9:55Speaker 2: openly carrying and they're eating supper with his family. Nobody
- 9:59Speaker 2: freaked out or whatever. I was like, hmmm, all right,
- 10:02Speaker 2: you know, I was carrying too. Uh, nobody knew it, so,
- 10:07Speaker 2: you know, it's kind of one of those things where, Okay,
- 10:09Speaker 2: bad guy comes in here, who's gonna get shot first?
- 10:11Speaker 2: It probably ain't gonna be me because I'm sitting over
- 10:13Speaker 2: there in the corner, you know, eating my eating my spaghetti,
- 10:17Speaker 2: and uh, I.
- 10:19Speaker 1: Just I'm hoping that the time that goes by between
- 10:24Speaker 1: when the judge said now it's it's open carry and
- 10:27Speaker 1: the legislature meets, they'll have time to say it's no
- 10:31Speaker 1: big deal, yeah, because it isn't. It's really not.
- 10:35Speaker 2: And hopefully you know, I'm I've heard every argument you
- 10:39Speaker 2: can possibly make for for open carry. I'm not against
- 10:42Speaker 2: it by any I'm against it personally, right, but there's
- 10:46Speaker 2: a big difference for me for my life. You know,
- 10:48Speaker 2: I'm not for it if I was if I was
- 10:51Speaker 2: carrying openly in a uh, you know.
- 10:53Speaker 1: A level three security holster. Okay.
- 10:57Speaker 2: The biggest issue I have with it is, you know,
- 11:00Speaker 2: law enforcement carries openly. That hasn't that hasn't just started.
- 11:04Speaker 2: That's been going on for pretty much forever. But the
- 11:08Speaker 2: law enforcement ulcers in uniform on the street that are
- 11:11Speaker 2: carrying openly are doing so in a level two or
- 11:15Speaker 2: level three security holster, which means it takes two or
- 11:17Speaker 2: three sequences of operation to even get their gun out.
- 11:22Speaker 2: Now they're good at getting it.
- 11:23Speaker 1: Out because they practice it a lot, yep.
- 11:25Speaker 2: But it's there to keep gun snatches, gun grabs, to
- 11:30Speaker 2: keep the bad guy from disarming number coming up behind them.
- 11:33Speaker 2: A lot of people that are open carrying don't think
- 11:36Speaker 2: about that. They don't even have a snap over there,
- 11:38Speaker 2: you know, on their holster. Which each snaps are, you know,
- 11:40Speaker 2: a strap or a snap over your holsters, not a It's.
- 11:45Speaker 1: Very very little security, right you know.
- 11:47Speaker 2: It's easy to defeat. So that's the biggest thing I
- 11:51Speaker 2: caution people about carrying openly. You better be paying attention
- 11:54Speaker 2: and not let don't let anybody get within arms each
- 11:57Speaker 2: of you there because at that point and there's potentially
- 12:01Speaker 2: a discussion over ownership of the firearm.
- 12:05Speaker 1: Speaking of arms, reach, knives are becoming a growing problem.
- 12:10Speaker 2: Yeah, uh, they're there. It's it's always been a problem.
- 12:14Speaker 1: But in part England has done their best to get
- 12:17Speaker 1: guns out of people's hands. So the weapon of choice
- 12:19Speaker 1: is a knife, yep, and people are being stabbedshed over
- 12:22Speaker 1: the place.
- 12:23Speaker 2: Big cities as well, new York City's a you know,
- 12:25Speaker 2: the subway.
- 12:25Speaker 1: But knife attacks, Yeah, you mentioned New York City. Knife
- 12:28Speaker 1: attacks are growing in number. What are What are a
- 12:33Speaker 1: couple of things to think about if you're confronted with
- 12:36Speaker 1: somebody who draws a knife.
- 12:38Speaker 2: Uh, the biggest thing to think about is seven yards
- 12:41Speaker 2: twenty one feet distance distance, even if you're carrying. If
- 12:48Speaker 2: you if somebody is within roughly twenty one feet from you,
- 12:52Speaker 2: if they're twenty one feet or less away from you,
- 12:55Speaker 2: and they already have a knife in your hand and
- 12:58Speaker 2: your gun is in your holster, you better be You
- 13:03Speaker 2: better consider them a deadly threat.
- 13:05Speaker 3: And you better be better than average a drawn you
- 13:07Speaker 3: better be better than average. And you need to be moving.
- 13:09Speaker 3: You need to be getting off the tracks on a
- 13:12Speaker 3: direct charge. If they just decide all of a sudden
- 13:14Speaker 3: they want to close that gap, close that distance, very
- 13:19Speaker 3: little chance that you're going to outdraw them and get
- 13:21Speaker 3: a shot off before they're cutting you. And getting cut
- 13:24Speaker 3: with a knife is a horrible thing in the right place,
- 13:29Speaker 3: it is a very quick and deadly situation. Yep, you know,
- 13:34Speaker 3: depending on the size of the knife and whether or
- 13:36Speaker 3: not the person wielding it knows how to use it.
- 13:39Speaker 1: A retractable blade. Someone's holding up something that appears to
- 13:43Speaker 1: be a knife, but the blade is not evident. It
- 13:45Speaker 1: could be a retractable blade. Is that grounds to pull
- 13:49Speaker 1: your firearmount not necessarily to discharge.
- 13:52Speaker 2: Depends on the situation and the you know, if they're
- 13:55Speaker 2: just holding something in their hand, that's one thing. If
- 13:57Speaker 2: they're holding something in their hand and saying I'm fixing
- 13:59Speaker 2: to hurt you and to kill you, give me your wallet,
- 14:01Speaker 2: then yeah, it doesn't really matter. At that point, they've
- 14:04Speaker 2: they've announced their intentions. Okay, so that's a that's a
- 14:08Speaker 2: situation by situation thing. If they're holding their cell phone
- 14:10Speaker 2: and you know, it's their cell phone in their hand,
- 14:13Speaker 2: different story, but absolutely it's there's some knives that can
- 14:16Speaker 2: be deployed in a really quick hurry, and it doesn't
- 14:18Speaker 2: have to be a retractable or an automatic pocket knife.
- 14:22Speaker 2: It can be a flip style or just an easy open.
- 14:25Speaker 2: You know, there's guys that practice with knives. They practice
- 14:30Speaker 2: with knives. Yeah, like we might go to the range.
- 14:32Speaker 2: They practice with their knives, yeah, you know, and usually
- 14:36Speaker 2: have it on them all the time, so they're the
- 14:38Speaker 2: you know, fidgeting around with it so they know how
- 14:40Speaker 2: it operates and they can get that blade out and
- 14:42Speaker 2: get it operational. Want to hurry.
- 14:43Speaker 1: But if there was one thing that you need people
- 14:46Speaker 1: to know about someone that might be an attacker with
- 14:48Speaker 1: a knife, it's distance as your friend.
- 14:50Speaker 2: Yep, clear, make you know, create distance, change direction. It's
- 14:58Speaker 2: you know, kind of like the old run from an
- 15:00Speaker 2: alligator running is exactly liss serpent serpentee, Yeah, exactly, it's
- 15:05Speaker 2: it takes time to change direction if somebody is running
- 15:08Speaker 2: at full speed.
- 15:11Speaker 1: Any listener of this program that's been around knows, I
- 15:14Speaker 1: can't wait to talk about Christmas shopping. I'm into it
- 15:19Speaker 1: come July. But now you get to November and you
- 15:23Speaker 1: know you've got people JD thinking about a j D.
- 15:25Speaker 1: Johnson with me from the Talent Training Group. And of
- 15:28Speaker 1: course there are people that want to let's start with
- 15:32Speaker 1: the youngsters. They want to get their their child that
- 15:35Speaker 1: first BB gun. Some things to know, you know.
- 15:41Speaker 2: The biggest the biggest mistake I think I see with
- 15:45Speaker 2: parents getting their kids their first gun or you know,
- 15:49Speaker 2: BB guns are one thing. If it's a BB gun,
- 15:52Speaker 2: there are pillet rifles, air powered pellet rifles. Now that
- 15:54Speaker 2: you can deer hunt with. So it doesn't need to
- 15:56Speaker 2: be that, okay, And you need to start them out
- 16:00Speaker 2: with the training them that that is a real firearm.
- 16:05Speaker 2: You t treat it just you treat a Daisy red
- 16:07Speaker 2: Rider because it'll put your eye out.
- 16:10Speaker 1: It will put your out, you know.
- 16:13Speaker 2: You start them out with a Daisy red Rider, just
- 16:15Speaker 2: like it's a real gun, you know, and even a
- 16:19Speaker 2: toy gun that doesn't fire a projectile.
- 16:21Speaker 1: You need to start.
- 16:22Speaker 2: Teaching them trigger discipline, muzzle discipline, all of those things,
- 16:26Speaker 2: and not to point it at somebody no matter what,
- 16:30Speaker 2: no matter what. Yeah, you know, that's that's the biggest thing.
- 16:33Speaker 2: Not just here's your Daisy red Rider, go go shoot
- 16:36Speaker 2: to sign and you know.
- 16:38Speaker 1: Have fun.
- 16:39Speaker 2: And it just doesn't work that way, and things are
- 16:41Speaker 2: not the same. You and I talk about that all
- 16:43Speaker 2: the time. Is when we were kids. You know, I
- 16:45Speaker 2: grew up being able to go out in the back
- 16:46Speaker 2: door and having access to thousands of acres of woods.
- 16:49Speaker 1: And you had a rifle or a shotgun in the
- 16:51Speaker 1: back of your truck. Yeah, you know when you went
- 16:52Speaker 1: to school.
- 16:53Speaker 2: Absolutely every day I went to school there, if it
- 16:55Speaker 2: was hunting season, there was a rifle or a shotgun
- 16:57Speaker 2: or both in the you know, in the back seat
- 16:59Speaker 2: of my truck or underneath the whatever, you know in
- 17:02Speaker 2: the truck somewhere. But times are different and you can't
- 17:07Speaker 2: do that anymore, right. But so if you're gonna get
- 17:10Speaker 2: your kid a gun, you start them out with firearms
- 17:13Speaker 2: discipline and don't make it a mystery if you have
- 17:16Speaker 2: them in the house. So teach them, let them learn,
- 17:19Speaker 2: let them shoot. It's enjoyable. It's an enjoyable sport.
- 17:23Speaker 1: But that first shooting experience, We've talked about it, but
- 17:25Speaker 1: I want to remind everybody that first shooting experience is
- 17:28Speaker 1: crucial to get it right.
- 17:30Speaker 2: Yeah, don't hand your kid a single shot twelve gage
- 17:32Speaker 2: shotgun and go here try this, you know, because that's
- 17:37Speaker 2: a bad experience for a kid. You know, something that's
- 17:41Speaker 2: going to have a tremendous amount of recoil and noise
- 17:43Speaker 2: and you know, protect their hearing. I'm the prime example
- 17:48Speaker 2: of not protecting my hearing when I was a kid.
- 17:50Speaker 2: I've been wearing here in aids since i was thirty five,
- 17:52Speaker 2: so I'm going on twenty something years of where needing
- 17:55Speaker 2: hearing aids. So iye protection air protection. Don't hand them
- 18:00Speaker 2: a giant caliber to shoot for the first time. Start
- 18:02Speaker 2: them out with a twenty two or a pellet rifle
- 18:04Speaker 2: or something that doesn't have a lot of noise, doesn't
- 18:06Speaker 2: have a lot of recoil. Ease them in, you know,
- 18:09Speaker 2: don't just go here here, here's Grandpa's thirty out six right,
- 18:12Speaker 2: shoot that target there and it recoils to the point where.
- 18:15Speaker 1: It because they may never pick up a firearm again.
- 18:17Speaker 2: Absolutely, I see people that get absolutely ruined at a
- 18:21Speaker 2: young age, and that they still, even if they still
- 18:26Speaker 2: like to shoot, they don't shoot well because of the
- 18:30Speaker 2: flint reaction that they have. They still have that subconscious
- 18:35Speaker 2: thought back there in the back of their mind that
- 18:36Speaker 2: this thing hurts and is loud, and I don't like it,
- 18:39Speaker 2: even though I want to hunt with it or I
- 18:41Speaker 2: want to shoot it or whatever.
- 18:42Speaker 1: So and if they've got if they make the decision
- 18:45Speaker 1: to go with a BB gun or an appropriate pellet gun,
- 18:49Speaker 1: they can train with that and teach their child that
- 18:52Speaker 1: at talon range.
- 18:53Speaker 2: Absolutely shoot the paper targets we've got. We've got paper
- 18:55Speaker 2: targets that are just fine for doing that. You have
- 18:57Speaker 2: to be careful with BB's because they're made out a
- 19:00Speaker 2: deal and you don't shoot anything hard with it. It'll
- 19:03Speaker 2: bounce back and it'll hurt you. You know, come back
- 19:05Speaker 2: at you three hundred feet per second and it'll hurt you.
- 19:08Speaker 2: Put your eye out, no joke, you know. So be
- 19:12Speaker 2: sure of your target and your backstop. That's some of
- 19:14Speaker 2: the cardinal rules of firearm safety that we've we've covered,
- 19:17Speaker 2: you know, we've covered right right here in this segment.
- 19:21Speaker 2: You can't, you know, the finger off the trigger, muzzle discipline,
- 19:27Speaker 2: be sure your target and your backstop. You know, all
- 19:29Speaker 2: of those things are important.
- 19:30Speaker 1: And we're back JD. Johnson of the Talent Trading Group
- 19:33Speaker 1: with me. All right, holiday shopping do's and don'ts tips,
- 19:36Speaker 1: We now transition from the youth to an adult. If
- 19:39Speaker 1: you're thinking about a firearm for a spouse, a son,
- 19:42Speaker 1: a daughter, et cetera, get.
- 19:46Speaker 2: Them a gift card. Don't don't go guys, don't go
- 19:51Speaker 2: by your wife a thirty eight special five shot snubnose
- 19:55Speaker 2: and go here, honey, I got you a gun. Let
- 19:58Speaker 2: them go to the range. Something, go be. Let them
- 20:02Speaker 2: be part of the process. While while it is an
- 20:05Speaker 2: admirable thing and I get it most of the time,
- 20:10Speaker 2: women absolutely most anybody that are not gun people, if
- 20:13Speaker 2: you're not a gun guy, a snubnosed revolver is the
- 20:17Speaker 2: hardest gun to shoot. It's the worst thing it is. Yeah,
- 20:20Speaker 2: it's the most unpleasant to shoot. Yes, it's the you know. Yes,
- 20:25Speaker 2: it is simplistic to operate. It doesn't take a lot
- 20:28Speaker 2: of effort to pull the trigger where you do have
- 20:30Speaker 2: some manipulation with a semi auto. But what you give,
- 20:34Speaker 2: what you get out of that is you you're giving
- 20:36Speaker 2: up a lot of more pleasant experience if you get
- 20:40Speaker 2: the proper training right, you know. And I see it
- 20:43Speaker 2: all the time. Guys come in with their wife and
- 20:46Speaker 2: my wife can't ract the slide on this gun, and
- 20:50Speaker 2: usually within about twenty seconds and a little bit of technique,
- 20:55Speaker 2: I go see she can do it. It's just to
- 20:57Speaker 2: matter doing it the right way.
- 20:58Speaker 1: And there and there are semi automatics. The gun manufacturers
- 21:02Speaker 1: are sensitive to that criticism and are responding to it.
- 21:05Speaker 2: There are there are there are some automatics that they
- 21:08Speaker 2: have made easier to operate. Several of the manufacturers Smith
- 21:12Speaker 2: and Wesson, Ruger, there's several of them that have made
- 21:14Speaker 2: it easier to operate. But even the ones that aren't
- 21:16Speaker 2: that way. Uh, it's technique. It is technique. It is
- 21:21Speaker 2: not strength. Every now and then it is strength. I see,
- 21:23Speaker 2: I see, you know, debilitating arthritis. Sure, it's one of
- 21:27Speaker 2: the worst ones. And you have somebody that just has
- 21:29Speaker 2: absolutely debilitating rheumatoid arthritis and their joints don't function properly
- 21:34Speaker 2: and their hand strength is gone.
- 21:36Speaker 1: Yeah, yep yeah.
- 21:39Speaker 2: Person protection yeah yeah, uh yeah, renta renta rent a thug.
- 21:45Speaker 2: You know, you walk around with you uh.
- 21:47Speaker 1: Called Charlie's group and have them assigned somebody to you. Uh,
- 21:51Speaker 1: but no, it's just I see that mistake a lot.
- 21:53Speaker 2: They go and buy the gun that they think their
- 21:55Speaker 2: wife wants or needs or whatever, and they go to
- 21:57Speaker 2: the range and she absolutely hates it.
- 21:59Speaker 1: Would it be batter before you even do the gift
- 22:02Speaker 1: card for a firearm, to get them a gift card
- 22:05Speaker 1: to go get some training.
- 22:06Speaker 2: First, Preston, I probably turned down two or three gun
- 22:11Speaker 2: sales a week, people trying to buy the right gun
- 22:15Speaker 2: standing at the gun counter that have never shot any
- 22:18Speaker 2: of them. So yes, absolutely, a day at the range
- 22:21Speaker 2: with a gun rental or with the fifty dollars rent
- 22:24Speaker 2: the class to the class in any of those things.
- 22:27Speaker 2: The class gets you the training, and it gets you
- 22:29Speaker 2: access to all our rental guns at the end of
- 22:31Speaker 2: the day. So that's a well spent two hundred dollars.
- 22:35Speaker 1: And you don't have to take the concealed carry permit
- 22:37Speaker 1: if someone doesn't want to. But what you're learning is invaluable, correct,
- 22:41Speaker 1: and you get exposed to the different firearms.
- 22:43Speaker 2: Absolutely, and you know we we we've been doing this
- 22:47Speaker 2: a long time. You can come up there and rent
- 22:49Speaker 2: every gun we have out there, which there's lots of them,
- 22:52Speaker 2: for fifty bucks. Try all of them as long as
- 22:55Speaker 2: you're willing to buy them and keep feeding them, We'll
- 22:57Speaker 2: keep handing them to you. Let's try them out till
- 22:59Speaker 2: you find the one you lock. That's let that person
- 23:02Speaker 2: that you're getting that you want to buy the gun
- 23:04Speaker 2: for pick it out.
- 23:06Speaker 1: So give them a three stage gift the fifty bucks
- 23:09Speaker 1: after the training, and then the gift card for the firearm.
- 23:11Speaker 1: Now you don't have to do the fifty bucks.
- 23:13Speaker 2: If you do the training, we give you that same
- 23:16Speaker 2: we're giving you the AMMO and letting you try the gun. Okay,
- 23:19Speaker 2: there you go for two hundred bucks. There you're training.
- 23:22Speaker 2: So yeah, that's We've tried to make this an affordable
- 23:25Speaker 2: proposition for most people.
- 23:27Speaker 1: Last question, is there something that is new on the
- 23:30Speaker 1: market or maybe that people don't really think about that
- 23:34Speaker 1: might be either a useful, practical or just playing cool
- 23:38Speaker 1: gift for somebody that enjoys firearms.
- 23:42Speaker 2: There's not a lot new on the market. Honestly. The
- 23:45Speaker 2: biggest new thing that's been around for you know, it
- 23:48Speaker 2: has been a becoming very mainstream, especially.
- 23:52Speaker 1: Is the red dot sites.
- 23:53Speaker 2: That's that's an option that makes shooting easy, shooting a
- 23:57Speaker 2: handgun easy.
- 23:57Speaker 1: And that's different than the laser.
- 24:00Speaker 2: Yeah, that is not a laser. A laser projects a
- 24:02Speaker 2: beam out in the distance somewhere. The red dot is
- 24:05Speaker 2: a holographic site that where you're not having to focus
- 24:08Speaker 2: or worry about three different focal points. You're not you
- 24:12Speaker 2: don't have a rear sight. You don't.
- 24:13Speaker 1: You can take the sites off the gun.
- 24:14Speaker 2: You've got one dot on there on, one holographic dot,
- 24:18Speaker 2: and to using those properly. Your focal attention is on
- 24:23Speaker 2: the target binocular vision, both eyes open. The dot superimposes
- 24:27Speaker 2: on the target and let you know where you're aiming.
- 24:29Speaker 2: And that's a simpler process than the old iron sights.
- 24:32Speaker 1: And are they are are good dependable red dots in
- 24:37Speaker 1: kind of all price ranges.
- 24:39Speaker 2: No, you expect to spend two hundred and fifty three
- 24:44Speaker 2: hundred dollars or more. There's a lot of cheap ones
- 24:47Speaker 2: on the market that just you're honestly, the one hundred
- 24:50Speaker 2: dollars ones, you're wasting your money.
- 24:51Speaker 1: You're gonna literally get rates than you pay for. It's
- 24:54Speaker 1: not going to last.
- 24:55Speaker 2: Those things are mounted on the slide of a handgun,
- 24:58Speaker 2: and that handgun slide is moved and every time it's
- 25:00Speaker 2: violently coming to the rear and going forward, you know,
- 25:03Speaker 2: moving every time you pull the trigger. So if they're
- 25:05Speaker 2: not well made, they're not.
- 25:06Speaker 1: Going to last. Good stuff. Thanks for coming in you, sir,
- 25:09Speaker 1: my pleasure. JD. Johnson with us from the Talent Training Group.
- 25:12Speaker 1: Remember that training he's talking about. It's as simple as
- 25:15Speaker 1: going to talentrange dot com.
