Latest / Early Edition with Ryan Bridge / Ryan Bridge: Are we taking it too far with AI?
Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: The future is here, ladies and gentlemen. AI is taking over.
- 0:04Speaker 1: There's a team of robots kept alive in some giant
- 0:07Speaker 1: warehouse with tons of electricity right now, whirring away, beavering
- 0:11Speaker 1: away on the world's big problems. AI will soon be
- 0:15Speaker 1: marking our students' exams, according to Erica Stanford, the Swedish
- 0:19Speaker 1: Prime Minister overnight, admitting he uses AI for a second
- 0:22Speaker 1: opinion on running the country on a daily basis. AI
- 0:26Speaker 1: architects are in high demand. They've been snapped up like hotcakes. Yesterday,
- 0:30Speaker 1: Meta apparently offered an AI researcher two hundred and fifty
- 0:35Speaker 1: million US dollars over four years. AI engineers are apparently
- 0:39Speaker 1: paid upwards of two and a half million bucks a year.
- 0:42Speaker 1: The big tech companies are investing billions. The efficiencies are real.
- 0:46Speaker 1: AI is changing the world, one data center at a time.
- 0:48Speaker 1: So the question for us what do we do about it.
- 0:51Speaker 1: Some of the teachers are upset because they don't trust
- 0:54Speaker 1: AI to mark exams, but really we shouldn't trust the teachers.
- 0:58Speaker 1: According to the Ministry of Education, and I've got no
- 1:00Speaker 1: reason to disbelieve this AI is at least as good as,
- 1:04Speaker 1: if not better than teachers at getting stuff right awkward.
- 1:08Speaker 1: There's some stuff so nuanced you will probably need humanized
- 1:12Speaker 1: to be across it. But that would be the exception,
- 1:15Speaker 1: surely in marking NCAA exams, not the rule. As for
- 1:19Speaker 1: the Swedish Prime minister, he's copying flak for not being
- 1:21Speaker 1: able to do his job without the help of a robot.
- 1:24Speaker 1: But you still need to use judgment, don't you. You
- 1:27Speaker 1: can't just punch into AI. Should I go to war
- 1:30Speaker 1: tomorrow and then blindly follow The answer? Is AI not
- 1:34Speaker 1: the mental equivalent of a forklift at AOL, a machine
- 1:38Speaker 1: doing the heavy lifting for our brains. We don't have
- 1:42Speaker 1: problems with forklifts, do we. They're helpful, they're useful. The
- 1:45Speaker 1: reality is it doesn't actually matter how we feel about
- 1:49Speaker 1: AI and the moraled one thousand moral dilemmas that throws
- 1:53Speaker 1: up like mobile phones, like the internet, smartphones and then
- 1:58Speaker 1: social media. It's one of these phenomenon that takes over
- 2:03Speaker 1: our lives, whether we like it or not. The best
- 2:06Speaker 1: we can probably do is just get used to it
- 2:09Speaker 1: and get over it. For more from early edition with
- 2:12Speaker 1: Ryan Bridge, listen live to news talks. It be from
