- 0:00Speaker 1: Hello, everybody, Welcome back to another episode of CP one
- 0:03Speaker 1: oh one Learned by Listening, presented by KCPR ninety one
- 0:06Speaker 1: point three.
- 0:07Speaker 2: You might be wondering who are we and why should
- 0:09Speaker 2: you be listening to us? Well, I'm Lana.
- 0:12Speaker 1: And I'm set Lana, and today's episode is about how
- 0:15Speaker 1: to romanticize your life.
- 0:16Speaker 2: And specifically how to romantize your life from the perspective
- 0:19Speaker 2: of two freshmen in college.
- 0:21Speaker 1: And just a reminder, we are not here to propose
- 0:24Speaker 1: we know more than you or are crazy experts about anything.
- 0:27Speaker 1: We just are still figuring this out ourselves. And yeah,
- 0:31Speaker 1: I think we have a few tips to share with you.
- 0:44Speaker 2: Stop living by society's rules and society's expectations, like don't
- 0:49Speaker 2: be a robot, just be yourself. Literally, the definition to
- 0:53Speaker 2: romanticize is to make something seem better, more appealing than
- 0:57Speaker 2: the way it is. Alter your life, your habits, and
- 1:01Speaker 2: even your routines to make it more like exciting for you.
- 1:05Speaker 1: Yeah, and just to clarify again, the romanticizing is about
- 1:09Speaker 1: your relationship with yourself, the things that we're going to
- 1:12Speaker 1: talk about right in this episode.
- 1:13Speaker 2: It's not really being in love with yourself.
- 1:15Speaker 1: Yeah, And in love with the things you do and
- 1:17Speaker 1: the habits you create for yourself. It's about how you
- 1:22Speaker 1: live your daily life and the gratitude you practice and yeah,
- 1:26Speaker 1: just again, how you make things more special for yourself.
- 1:30Speaker 1: So today we're going to be sharing ten little simple
- 1:34Speaker 1: things you can do to make your life more enjoyable,
- 1:38Speaker 1: feel a little bit more romanticized.
- 1:41Speaker 2: And just being present in the moment.
- 1:43Speaker 1: One of the biggest things to keep in mind when
- 1:46Speaker 1: we're kind of giving you all these tips is that
- 1:50Speaker 1: in any case, I think you can always slow down
- 1:54Speaker 1: and focus on all five of your senses to put
- 1:57Speaker 1: yourself in the moment, because matter where you are, what
- 2:01Speaker 1: you're doing, it's really really easy, like especially in this
- 2:04Speaker 1: day and age with how fast we consume everything and
- 2:07Speaker 1: go through everything to just passively act. But if you're
- 2:10Speaker 1: able to, like, like, for example, if you're listening to
- 2:12Speaker 1: music and you really listen to this song and you're like, damn,
- 2:15Speaker 1: like this song's about me, I don't know, just kind
- 2:17Speaker 1: of like associate yourself with with all of your surroundings,
- 2:21Speaker 1: really allow yourself to savor your environment, and that in
- 2:26Speaker 1: and of itself is a way to like easily romanticize
- 2:29Speaker 1: whatever situation you're in and make it more.
- 2:31Speaker 3: Enjoyable for you.
- 2:32Speaker 1: Yeah, definitely, Yes, give yourself the privilege of being in
- 2:36Speaker 1: the moment. And yeah, without further ado, we're gonna share
- 2:39Speaker 1: ten simple steps that you guys can all do you
- 2:43Speaker 1: to romanticize your life.
- 2:46Speaker 2: All right, So number one, we have make things less
- 2:49Speaker 2: simple and make them more special. Because going back to
- 2:52Speaker 2: the definition of to romanticize, it also says deal with
- 2:55Speaker 2: or describe in an idealized or unrealistic fashion. So hikey
- 3:00Speaker 2: be delusional, hikey be delusional. Yes, So, like back to
- 3:06Speaker 2: the example of the song. Personally, like, sometimes I'll listen
- 3:10Speaker 2: to songs and imagine them as like a scene in
- 3:12Speaker 2: my head or like enjoy the song as if it
- 3:15Speaker 2: was like background music to like a movie I'm in
- 3:18Speaker 2: and I'm like the main character. I have a little story.
- 3:21Speaker 2: When I was younger, I used to imagine that the
- 3:24Speaker 2: music I was listening to was coming from the sky,
- 3:27Speaker 2: like from the atmosphere, and it kind of give off
- 3:30Speaker 2: that main character like vibes that which you kind of
- 3:33Speaker 2: need to romanticize your life. And I mean, yes, that
- 3:37Speaker 2: is a little bit delusional, but it's your world.
- 3:39Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean like at the end of the day.
- 3:42Speaker 1: Like a lot of these steps are about like like
- 3:45Speaker 1: your your process of thinking, and that is entirely yours, right, And.
- 3:50Speaker 2: It's kind of like treating your inner child and remembering
- 3:55Speaker 2: what it is to have fun just in your own
- 3:57Speaker 2: little head.
- 3:58Speaker 1: Yeah, Like allowing yourself to feel like special in the
- 4:04Speaker 1: way of like romanticizing through like all your daily little
- 4:07Speaker 1: actions is like super important to nurturing your innertrial, right.
- 4:10Speaker 2: Just changing your perspective again like high key, low key delusional,
- 4:14Speaker 2: like in your routines, Like when you're cooking, pretend like
- 4:17Speaker 2: you're on like a star Chef like episode to you got.
- 4:23Speaker 3: To shape that food.
- 4:25Speaker 1: Second tip is to slow down, and like one of
- 4:29Speaker 1: the easiest ways is to give yourself an extra like
- 4:32Speaker 1: fifteen to thirty minutes in the morning. And I know
- 4:36Speaker 1: for college students that really is a lot to ask.
- 4:39Speaker 2: No, especially me, like after staying up super late the
- 4:42Speaker 2: night before, it's really tough. But just from my personal
- 4:46Speaker 2: like perspective, I've been really trying to implement like romanticizing
- 4:50Speaker 2: everything these past two weeks and doing that just literally
- 4:53Speaker 2: like five or ten minutes just meditating there in my bed,
- 4:58Speaker 2: like sitting in silence, not on my phone, maybe reading
- 5:01Speaker 2: a book I'm supposed to catch up on, like resets
- 5:04Speaker 2: my mind for the day. Yeah.
- 5:06Speaker 1: I think slow mornings change people and allow you to
- 5:12Speaker 1: start your day off on the right foot because it's
- 5:15Speaker 1: so I mean, there's like being able to start the
- 5:19Speaker 1: day in like a positive light and like in a
- 5:22Speaker 1: not I don't know, like rushed manner is super duper important.
- 5:27Speaker 1: And like to further romanticize that, like if you have
- 5:30Speaker 1: an extra fifteen to thirty minutes and you're like, I
- 5:33Speaker 1: feel like macha super popular right now. So if you're
- 5:35Speaker 1: like a Macha drinker, you make yourself like a little macha,
- 5:38Speaker 1: go get one or go get a coffee, and then
- 5:42Speaker 1: while you're drinking that you can do a little journaling
- 5:45Speaker 1: just whatever makes you feel like more in tune with
- 5:49Speaker 1: yourself and just a little bit more special.
- 5:52Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 5:52Speaker 2: I actually had two machas today. I really treated myself. Okay,
- 5:58Speaker 2: number three this I'm very big on. Make a playlist.
- 6:03Speaker 1: Yes, so when we say make a playlist, like in
- 6:07Speaker 1: order to romanticize your life, you're not making a passive
- 6:10Speaker 1: little playlist that has some songs that you're just gonna
- 6:12Speaker 1: keep skipping until you find them that you like. Like,
- 6:14Speaker 1: this playlist is solidly set with songs that you love
- 6:19Speaker 1: that make you feel so good that you enjoy to
- 6:22Speaker 1: their core, that make.
- 6:24Speaker 2: You feel like the music is coming out of the
- 6:25Speaker 2: sky exactly.
- 6:27Speaker 1: Yes, okay, Lona, So what are some artists that are
- 6:30Speaker 1: on your romanticized playlist?
- 6:32Speaker 2: Let's see. I have cigarettes after Sex, TV Girl, Billie Eilish,
- 6:38Speaker 2: some Frank Ocean beach House, lots of instrumental music for me,
- 6:43Speaker 2: So what about you?
- 6:45Speaker 1: I feel like for me, I'm kind of like getting
- 6:48Speaker 1: into this like Summer twenty sixteen, core like throwbacks like
- 6:53Speaker 1: Gez DJ, Snake, Pillow Talks, Zain all the old Justin Bieber.
- 7:00Speaker 3: I love this.
- 7:00Speaker 2: And did we talk about like setting a cover photo.
- 7:03Speaker 1: There's like a feature where you can change the cover
- 7:06Speaker 1: photo and like add a little description and stuff.
- 7:10Speaker 2: I definitely do this, like once a month, I'll just
- 7:12Speaker 2: cleanse it all and I'll add new photos and whatever,
- 7:15Speaker 2: like aesthetic or vibe I'm feeling right now, like what
- 7:18Speaker 2: my Pinch's board looks like.
- 7:20Speaker 1: Also, I feel like a little bit underrated, a little
- 7:23Speaker 1: bit Niche might not be for everybody, but for me
- 7:26Speaker 1: sometimes just like walking around. I'll put some classical music
- 7:30Speaker 1: on and then I feel like I'm in like a ballet,
- 7:33Speaker 1: like I'm in Swan Lake.
- 7:35Speaker 2: Yeah, and that kind of hints at the delusional aspect.
- 7:38Speaker 1: It gotta be a little bit delusional. The best people
- 7:41Speaker 1: are always a little bit delusional.
- 7:42Speaker 3: You just gotta give in.
- 7:44Speaker 1: Gotta give in to that little little child in you
- 7:47Speaker 1: who who think she's in Swan Lake?
- 7:51Speaker 2: Ye?
- 7:52Speaker 3: All right.
- 7:53Speaker 2: Next on our list we have is do a skincare routine.
- 7:57Speaker 1: Okay, So, like, I know this is like a little
- 8:00Speaker 1: bit of a cliche one. Obviously, personal hygiene is important,
- 8:03Speaker 1: but like finding a routine that you can stick to
- 8:09Speaker 1: and that like is special to you is like super therapeutic.
- 8:14Speaker 1: That is just time you have dedicated to like yourself.
- 8:18Speaker 1: Even beyond just like skincare, there's like hair care, body care.
- 8:23Speaker 2: Yeah, practice self care and self love yeah period. Yeah.
- 8:28Speaker 3: Step five explore nature more.
- 8:33Speaker 2: Yeah. I think a lot of people take nature for granted,
- 8:36Speaker 2: Like especially me coming from a big city like Chicago
- 8:39Speaker 2: and then moving to California, Like, I really notice the
- 8:43Speaker 2: difference between being stuck in like such an industrial city
- 8:46Speaker 2: versus being around nature.
- 8:48Speaker 1: Yeah, I feel like exploring nature more and just exploring
- 8:53Speaker 1: what's outside of your home more in a romanticized light
- 8:57Speaker 1: is super beneficial. There's a notion that like, in order
- 9:00Speaker 1: to like I don't know, feel more connected to nature
- 9:03Speaker 1: or more connected to what's outside, you need to like
- 9:06Speaker 1: go on some big trip or go somewhere far from
- 9:09Speaker 1: where you're from. But that's not necessarily true. I feel
- 9:13Speaker 1: like people overlook like what's around them all the time.
- 9:15Speaker 1: Literally just by taking a walk through the neighborhood or
- 9:19Speaker 1: going on a run, if that's what you like to do.
- 9:22Speaker 1: Just exploring what's around you while you have your little
- 9:24Speaker 1: playlists going. By the way, music is super important. I
- 9:26Speaker 1: feel like we always come back to it, like having
- 9:28Speaker 1: that playlist going.
- 9:29Speaker 3: But yeah, it's really.
- 9:30Speaker 2: Like the backbone of like our emotions.
- 9:33Speaker 1: Yeah, literally, just like making the area or the city
- 9:37Speaker 1: around you feel like, just connecting yourself more with it
- 9:41Speaker 1: by exploring it is another way to romanticize your life. Yeah,
- 9:45Speaker 1: And I feel like if you're the type of person
- 9:47Speaker 1: who gets bored with like like typical things that you do,
- 9:51Speaker 1: or like if you have like a routine that you're
- 9:53Speaker 1: kind of bored of, you could try like new routes,
- 9:56Speaker 1: Like if you're driving to work or to school, or walking,
- 9:58Speaker 1: like you try a new roo. Maybe it's a little further,
- 10:01Speaker 1: but that just means you need to get up a
- 10:02Speaker 1: little earlier.
- 10:03Speaker 3: But yeah, try something new.
- 10:04Speaker 1: If you go to a certain grocery store day in
- 10:07Speaker 1: and day out, like you could try a new grocery store.
- 10:10Speaker 1: Or if you walk your dog, like to a certain park,
- 10:13Speaker 1: walk them to another park. All these different things that
- 10:16Speaker 1: like will allow you to like explore.
- 10:19Speaker 2: Number six, we have invest in your space. So for me,
- 10:24Speaker 2: how I do this is I like to keep my
- 10:26Speaker 2: space very clean and organized, and once in a while,
- 10:32Speaker 2: like I'll just completely rearrange it.
- 10:34Speaker 1: Yeah, I feel like investing in your space is something
- 10:37Speaker 1: that you don't need a lot of money to do,
- 10:40Speaker 1: Like if you're looking for decorations that you resonate with.
- 10:44Speaker 1: First of all, I don't really believe in like fast
- 10:47Speaker 1: fashion purchases steer away from like the trending while art
- 10:52Speaker 1: on TikTok as tempting as those things are because they're
- 10:55Speaker 1: cheap and easy to come by. Like go go to
- 11:00Speaker 1: your local thrift store and look at the massive art
- 11:04Speaker 1: and wall the core sections that they always have. Like
- 11:07Speaker 1: I've never been to a thrift store that doesn't have
- 11:08Speaker 1: a crazy weird art section that you can look at,
- 11:11Speaker 1: but find like pieces or things that you are gonna
- 11:16Speaker 1: like like and enjoy looking at day in and day out.
- 11:19Speaker 2: Another thing is if you ever are like sick of
- 11:22Speaker 2: your space, like it's okay to change your environment.
- 11:25Speaker 1: You can keep the same things and just organize them
- 11:28Speaker 1: in a new way so that when you go into
- 11:31Speaker 1: the same space that feels like a new space.
- 11:34Speaker 2: That kind of seeps into our next step, which is
- 11:38Speaker 2: unlocking the right side of your brain, which is the
- 11:41Speaker 2: side that controls creativity and your artistic side.
- 11:45Speaker 1: So what we mean by unlocking this side of your
- 11:49Speaker 1: brain is pursuing the things that you do or like
- 11:53Speaker 1: certain activities that aren't necessarily like work in school focus,
- 11:56Speaker 1: Like if you have new hobbies that you want to try,
- 12:00Speaker 1: like exercise, different kinds of exercise, yoga, pilates, cycling, walking, hiking.
- 12:08Speaker 2: Yeah, and you don't have to be an expert at it,
- 12:10Speaker 2: Like you could have no idea what you're doing, but
- 12:12Speaker 2: just doing it, it's gonna make you feel like proud
- 12:15Speaker 2: of yourself that you're even trying.
- 12:17Speaker 1: Yeah, and you, like you just said, you don't have
- 12:21Speaker 1: to be good at the things you do, but if
- 12:22Speaker 1: you like doing them, then there's no reason you shouldn't
- 12:25Speaker 1: be doing them.
- 12:26Speaker 2: Yeah, that's huge. Like I'm not that great at painting,
- 12:28Speaker 2: but I still like to paint and hang up my
- 12:31Speaker 2: art on my wall. And like another thing is just
- 12:33Speaker 2: like practicing like your hobbies. Like for me personally, that
- 12:37Speaker 2: i'd be playing guitar, like I'll work so hard in
- 12:40Speaker 2: a song and then being able to play it like
- 12:43Speaker 2: to the people around me and like my friends and
- 12:45Speaker 2: family like brings us closer together. And it also makes
- 12:48Speaker 2: me feel good that I put so much work into
- 12:50Speaker 2: this and I'm able to like wrighten other people's day.
- 12:54Speaker 1: Yeah, and I feel like being able to like practice
- 12:59Speaker 1: hobbies like like guitar and like art and find hobbies
- 13:04Speaker 1: in the gym or different kind of exercise that you enjoy,
- 13:07Speaker 1: like really is one of the things that builds on
- 13:11Speaker 1: your relationship with yourself and allows you to feel more
- 13:13Speaker 1: confident because like, you have these things that feel personal
- 13:17Speaker 1: to you, your identity because they are that aren't things
- 13:21Speaker 1: that you just like are passively doing.
- 13:23Speaker 3: They're things that you like, know, you like and enjoy.
- 13:26Speaker 2: Yeah, definitely, Like I don't get fomo anymore. Like when
- 13:29Speaker 2: all my friends are going out and I just want
- 13:30Speaker 2: to stay in because I know I could stay in
- 13:32Speaker 2: and I could work on this skill that, like, I'm
- 13:35Speaker 2: really passionate about.
- 13:37Speaker 1: The next step, step number eight is to think and
- 13:40Speaker 1: look at yourself in the third person.
- 13:43Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 13:43Speaker 2: I think this is a good tactic to refresh your
- 13:46Speaker 2: perspective and to kind of see yourself like as if
- 13:51Speaker 2: you are the main character in a movie.
- 13:54Speaker 3: Yeah, definitely.
- 13:55Speaker 1: And I think with this like kind of detached view,
- 13:59Speaker 1: it's easier to not see yourself in such a negative
- 14:02Speaker 1: light because at the end of the day, there's always
- 14:06Speaker 1: going to be like the saying you are your worst critic,
- 14:08Speaker 1: and it's true, like no one is judging you as
- 14:12Speaker 1: much as you are.
- 14:12Speaker 3: You're judging yourself.
- 14:14Speaker 1: You know, no one is criticizing your your hobbies and
- 14:16Speaker 1: actions as much as you probably are yourself. The way
- 14:19Speaker 1: you look, the things you say, like all those things
- 14:21Speaker 1: like you're at the end of the day, your worst critic.
- 14:23Speaker 1: And taking your like a step back and looking at
- 14:26Speaker 1: yourself through the third person gives you a mindful view
- 14:31Speaker 1: that allows you to like appreciate who you are and
- 14:35Speaker 1: what you have around you way more than you you
- 14:37Speaker 1: probably normally do it because you're just you know, like
- 14:40Speaker 1: living in it.
- 14:40Speaker 2: Yeah, you kind of become more aware of yourself, like
- 14:44Speaker 2: as a human being and just as a person in
- 14:48Speaker 2: the world, and it kind of makes you more self
- 14:50Speaker 2: aware and more willing to take care of your body
- 14:54Speaker 2: and your soul. And this kind of goes back into
- 14:56Speaker 2: like the five senses, like really being aware of those
- 14:59Speaker 2: things around you and seeing how like they're affecting you.
- 15:03Speaker 1: Looking at yourself objectively gives you, like the ability to
- 15:08Speaker 1: foster more self love and foster a better self image
- 15:12Speaker 1: through just being able to like appreciate all of your
- 15:17Speaker 1: unique qualities and appreciate the situation you're in.
- 15:21Speaker 2: It definitely allows you to like take a step back
- 15:23Speaker 2: and slow down, as you say, and moving on to
- 15:27Speaker 2: number nine, act how your child's self would act. So
- 15:31Speaker 2: don't be afraid of what other people are gonna think
- 15:35Speaker 2: of you. Like little kids, they just do what they
- 15:38Speaker 2: want because it it's genuinely interesting and fun for them. Like,
- 15:42Speaker 2: don't be your own strict parent, like allow yourself to
- 15:45Speaker 2: have fun and allow that inner child to guide you.
- 15:51Speaker 1: Yeah, I think this kind of ties in with like
- 15:55Speaker 1: so many of the topics that we've touched on acting
- 15:58Speaker 1: how your child self would act like in this state
- 16:01Speaker 1: where you're obviously not a child kind of just reminds
- 16:04Speaker 1: you that at the end of the day, like doing
- 16:09Speaker 1: things that you enjoy and that you love without any
- 16:12Speaker 1: pressure or any fear of judgment is super important to
- 16:16Speaker 1: developing like a sense of self that you feel proud
- 16:19Speaker 1: of and that you're happy to be.
- 16:21Speaker 2: Definitely like, don't be afraid to like join in on
- 16:24Speaker 2: activities like you've never done before. Don't be so strict
- 16:28Speaker 2: and stern like rule abiding in your life that you
- 16:31Speaker 2: forget that there's magic and romanticization like everywhere.
- 16:35Speaker 1: I think one of the biggest things with this is
- 16:37Speaker 1: like surrounding yourself with people who allow you to act
- 16:40Speaker 1: this way, because I feel like since I've been to college,
- 16:43Speaker 1: I've definitely met people who I've been like, Okay, I
- 16:46Speaker 1: don't really want to be super close to you because
- 16:49Speaker 1: I don't think you're gonna think my child's self and
- 16:52Speaker 1: the things I find are funny are funny and all
- 16:54Speaker 1: of those kinds of things. But I have met other
- 16:57Speaker 1: people who I feel completely like safe around and who
- 17:02Speaker 1: I know that I can just like let this version
- 17:07Speaker 1: of myself exist around and and that'll be okay with it,
- 17:12Speaker 1: you know.
- 17:13Speaker 2: Yeah, Okay, So moving on to number ten.
- 17:16Speaker 1: A bit of a bit of a philosophical way to
- 17:18Speaker 1: romanticize your life, okay, Lana. Number ten, imagine your eighty
- 17:26Speaker 1: year old self teleported into your nineteen year old body
- 17:29Speaker 1: for one day.
- 17:31Speaker 3: What would you do? Wow?
- 17:33Speaker 2: I could do so many things, Like I could just
- 17:37Speaker 2: really live life like to the fullest.
- 17:39Speaker 1: Yeah, Like, like what would your thought process be?
- 17:41Speaker 2: Like?
- 17:42Speaker 3: What would you think?
- 17:44Speaker 2: Well, first of all, I would just think myself that
- 17:47Speaker 2: I have the ability to like walk and run, and
- 17:52Speaker 2: like I have my health, like my full perfect health.
- 17:57Speaker 2: I don't know what I like, go skydiving or something.
- 18:01Speaker 1: I think I would definitely take immediate like initiative and
- 18:05Speaker 1: all of the things I want to do, take advantage
- 18:07Speaker 1: of all of the opportunities I have around me, specifically
- 18:10Speaker 1: like in regards to my career and passions I have.
- 18:15Speaker 1: And another thing I would do is like not take
- 18:19Speaker 1: for granted like the health the current state of health
- 18:23Speaker 1: I'm in because I know, like as you aged, those
- 18:25Speaker 1: things go away and whether you like it or not,
- 18:29Speaker 1: you're not going to be able to like run as well.
- 18:31Speaker 3: I mean, there are like certain exceptions.
- 18:32Speaker 1: There's like really old people who run marathons, Like obviously
- 18:35Speaker 1: those are like superhumans. But like I know, in general,
- 18:38Speaker 1: like as you age, you're you're not able to exercise
- 18:41Speaker 1: as much as you want, and you're not able to
- 18:44Speaker 1: do basic things that you're able to do when you're
- 18:46Speaker 1: like nineteen. So yeah, I would definitely just take advantage
- 18:50Speaker 1: of all my bodies capable of and all of the
- 18:52Speaker 1: people around me, for sure.
- 18:54Speaker 2: Yeah, definitely. I think I would just celebrate like the
- 18:57Speaker 2: little wins in life, you know, and just how kind
- 19:00Speaker 2: of be more vigilant of all like the small things
- 19:03Speaker 2: that kind of like make up for the big things
- 19:07Speaker 2: and just live life in like its fullest capacity and
- 19:11Speaker 2: to stop taking like all of these things for granted
- 19:13Speaker 2: that like we're at such a good school and we
- 19:16Speaker 2: have our health and we have family and kind of
- 19:20Speaker 2: again live life to its very fullest.
- 19:23Speaker 1: I think our main point is to not live life
- 19:29Speaker 1: so passively and not let things that feel really.
- 19:32Speaker 3: Mundane be mundane.
